Apr 22 2024Peterson was released by the Diamondbacks on Monday, per MLB's transaction log. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was designated for assignment Friday, and he'll hit the open market after failing to draw interest elsewhere. He went 1-for-22 with one RBI and two runs over 14 appearances prior to being released.
Apr 19 2024The Diamondbacks designated Peterson for assignment Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was unable to make the most of his opportunities after shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL on April 7. Peterson hasn't recorded a hit since April 5, and he has reached base just four times over 26 plate appearances this season. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno.
Apr 6 2024Peterson started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With primary shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) dealing with right knee discomfort -- and expected to undergo an MRI on Saturday -- the lefty-hitting Peterson filled in at shortstop against Atlanta right-hander Spencer Strider. Peterson was eventually pinch hit for by Blaze Alexander in the eighth inning against lefty Aaron Bummer. It's unclear how long Perdomo will be unavailable, and shortstop should be covered by a combination of Peterson (against righties) and Alexander (lefties). Atlanta is throwing left-hander Max Fried on Saturday.
Apr 4 2024Peterson could be needed to fill-in at shortstop if Geraldo Perdomo's knee injury prevents him from playing Friday. Peterson went 0-for-2 after entering Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Yankees as a pinch hitter and second baseman. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Perdomo was injured while rounding first base and removed from the game in the 10th inning. He'll get some time to heal with a day off Thursday before a weekend series in Atlanta. If the injury lingers, the lefty-hitting Peterson and righty Blaze Alexander are poised to start, likely depending on the handedness of the opposing starter. Right-hander Spencer Strider is scheduled to throw for Atlanta on Friday.
Apr 3 2024Peterson entered Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Yankees as a pinch hitter and walked. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was the second overall appearance for Peterson and his first time at the plate this season. He pinch hit for rookie Blaze Alexander, who started at DH, in the eighth inning and finished the game at second base. Peterson's versatility will keep him around, and he could provide value in the steals category, but he'd need regular opportunities to do that.
Mar 14 2024Peterson has started at shortstop in spring games Tuesday and Wednesday while Geraldo Perdomo (lower body) was rested. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Perdomo tweaked his lower half while sliding in Monday's game and has not played since, with the Diamondbacks giving him time off until the weekend. Peterson is among several players in camp capable of playing shortstop, including Elvis Andrus, Kevin Newman and Emmanuel Rivera.
Mar 4 2024Peterson (wrist) is starting at third base and batting second for the Diamondbacks on Monday in his return to Cactus League play. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was held out of games for nearly a week because of inflammation in his right wrist, but he's feeling better now and has returned to action. The 33-year-old is set up for a utility role in Arizona this season.
Mar 1 2024Peterson experienced inflammation in his right wrist Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had imaging done on his wrist that revealed no structural damage. He will be shut down for a few days, but manager Torey Lovullo said he's not worried about Peterson missing Opening Day.
Oct 27 2023Peterson was added to the Diamondbacks' World Series roster Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was part of Arizona's NL Wild Card roster, then removed for the NLCS and is now back on the roster for the Fall Classic. Slade Cecconi -- who replaced Peterson on the NLCS roster -- has been removed. Evan Longoria is just 5-for-37 with 17 strikeouts this postseason, so it's possible Peterson sees some action at third base, at least against right-handers.
Oct 16 2023Peterson is not on the Diamondbacks' NLCS roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was a late addition to Arizona's NL Wild Card roster as a replacement for Jake McCarthy (oblique) and he wound up receiving just one plate appearance combined between that series and the NLDS. The Diamondbacks are going with pitcher Slade Cecconi on their NLCS roster over Peterson.
Oct 3 2023Peterson was added to Arizona's roster on Tuesday for its NL Wild Card Series matchup against the Brewers, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was initially left off the Diamondbacks' roster, but he will be a last-minute replacement for Jake McCarthy (oblique), who injured himself during batting practice Tuesday. Peterson will give the D-backs depth at multiple positions as they look to get past Milwaukee.
Sep 30 2023Peterson will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Astros, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's off days tend to come against southpaws, but he sits Saturday against righty Justin Verlander. Evan Longoria will get the start at the hot corner.
Sep 29 2023Peterson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has just four steals this season, two of which have come over his last three games. He's had spotty playing time in September, going 8-for-39 (.205) with four walks over 16 contests this month. The third baseman is slashing .213/.304/.310 with six home runs, 37 RBI, 35 runs scored, 10 doubles and four triples over 133 games between Arizona and Oakland this season.
Sep 28 2023Peterson is not in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Emmanuel Rivera will start at third base and bat eighth for the visiting Diamondbacks. Peterson handled the hot corner in the first two games of Arizona's three-game series at Chicago and went 0-for-7 with a walk and a stolen base.
Sep 27 2023Peterson started at third base and went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 15-4 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson registered his career-high 14th steal during Arizona's six-run fifth inning. The lefty hitter is in a rotation at third base with Evan Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera, normally getting starts against right-handers but not as part of a strict platoon.
Sep 25 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had started in three of the Diamondbacks' last four matchups versus right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Monday even with righty Clarke Schmidt taking the hill for the Yankees. Emmanuel Rivera will get the nod at third base in place of Peterson.
Sep 11 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since being acquired from Oakland on July 31, Peterson has mostly served as a strong-side platoon option at third base, but he'll likely have to settle for more of a utility role moving forward. With both second baseman Ketel Marte (knee) and shortstop Jordan Lawlar (hand) back in the lineup Monday after one-game absences, Peterson will retreat to the bench after he manned the keystone Sunday. Geraldo Perdomo has seemingly supplanted Peterson as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at third base.
Sep 5 2023Peterson is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Emmanuel Rivera will cover third base and Evan Longoria will take a turn as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter with Colorado throwing left-hander Kyle Freeland. Peterson has batted .167 with a .407 OPS in 55 plate appearances against lefties this year.
Sep 1 2023Peterson is not in the lineup Friday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Evan Longoria will get the start at third base and hit fifth as left-hander Cole Irvin graces the bump for Baltimore. Peterson has batted just .167 with a .407 OPS in 55 plate appearances versus lefties this year.
Aug 29 2023Peterson is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Evan Longoria will start at third base and bat sixth with left-hander Clayton Kershaw taking the bump for Los Angeles. Peterson has slashed just .188/.291/.271 in 22 games with Arizona and owns a career .544 OPS against southpaws.
Aug 27 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson regularly sits out against southpaws, but he'll head to the bench Sunday even though right-hander Graham Ashcraft is on the hill for Cincinnati. Evan Longoria will pick up a start at third base in place of Peterson, who is slashing .178/.288/.267 in 20 games with Arizona since being acquired from Oakland on July 31.
Aug 24 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Evan Longoria will start at third base and bat sixth as the Diamondbacks take on left-hander Brandon Williamson. Peterson has posted a weak .416 OPS in 54 plate appearances against southpaws this year between Oakland and Arizona.
Aug 23 2023Peterson started at third base and went 0-for-1 with a walk in Tuesday's 6-3 win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-batting Peterson usually starts against right-handers, as was the case Tuesday, but his track record against southpaws makes him vulnerable to being pinch hit for against left-handed relievers. That happened again, as Buddy Kennedy replaced him when Brock Burke entered the contest. Peterson is slashing .170/.245/.170 over 52 plate appearances against lefties this season.
Aug 19 2023Peterson will sit Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will take a seat after he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the Diamondbacks' 6-4 Game 1 win. Geraldo Perdomo will slide over to third base while Nick Ahmed enters the lineup at shortstop and bats eighth in the nightcap versus the Padres.
Aug 17 2023Peterson is not in Thursday's lineup against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Rich Hill on the mound for San Diego, Peterson will open the game on the bench. Buddy Kennedy starts at the hot corner, batting fifth.
Aug 16 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will stay on the bench for a second straight game while the Rockies bring another southpaw (Austin Gomber) to the hill for the series finale. Buddy Kennedy will replace Peterson at third base.
Aug 15 2023Peterson is not in the lineup Tuesday at Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Buddy Kennedy will start at third base and bat sixth versus the Rockies and left-hander Ty Blach. Peterson, a left-handed hitter, has batted just .174 with a .409 OPS in 52 plate appearances this year against southpaws.
Aug 12 2023Peterson isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup Saturday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Rich Hill will take the mound for San Diego, forcing the lefty-hitting Peterson to the bench for the start of Saturday's game. Buddy Kennedy will start at third base and bat sixth while Peterson sits.
Aug 7 2023Peterson walked as a pinch hitter and stole a base in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's theft was one of eight on the day for Arizona, which apparently tried to run its way out of a slump that reached six consecutive losses Sunday. It was the second straight game with a steal for Peterson, who is 3-for-13 with two steals (caught once) since joining the Diamondbacks. With second baseman Ketel Marte (quadriceps) leaving the game, Peterson could slot in at the keystone if the injury lingers.
Aug 6 2023Peterson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 12-1 loss to Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had one of two hits for the Diamondbacks, who lost their fifth straight. The steal was his 12th, one shy of his career-best mark set in 2018 with the Yankees and Orioles. This was the lefty hitter's third start in five games since being acquired at the trade deadline. All of Peterson's starts have come against right-handers, but it should be noted that Emmanuel Rivera also started against a right-hander since Peterson arrived in the desert.
Aug 3 2023Peterson started at third base and went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson made his second consecutive start at the hot corner, both coming against right-handers, and is 2-for-6 since joining the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline. He and the right-handed hitting Emmanuel Rivera are splitting third base. Whether third base becomes a traditional lefty-righty platoon has not been determined, and the job share will become crowded when Evan Longoria (back) returns from the injured list.
Jul 31 2023The Athletics traded Peterson to the Diamondbacks on Monday in exchange for Chad Patrick. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through 324 plate appearances this season, Peterson holds a .637 OPS -- his lowest mark since 2019 (.599). However, the 33-year-old utilityman is slashing .313/.410/.438 since the All-Star break and will now provide Arizona with a hot bat off the bench that is capable of fielding nearly every defensive position. Peterson likely won't see consistent starts with his new team, but his versatility should be enough to get him into the lineup every once in a while.
Jul 30 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll hit the bench for the third time in four games with southpaw Ty Blach on the hill for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Peterson still appears to have a hold on a strong-side platoon role at third base for the time being. After going 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in Saturday's 11-3 win, Peterson is slashing .313/.410/.438 with a home run and two stolen bases in 13 games since the All-Star break.
Jul 22 2023Peterson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's playing time has been a bit sparse since the All-Star break, but he's gone 6-for-17 (.353) with four walks over eight contests in that span. He also picked up his 11th stolen base of the season in Saturday's win. The 33-year-old is at a .218/.310/.327 slash line with six home runs, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored, seven doubles and two triples through 307 plate appearances this season. Playing to mediocre numbers in Oakland won't get him on the fantasy radar, especially when he isn't even holding down a strong-side platoon role.
Jul 20 2023Peterson went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, two walks and an additional run in a win over the Red Sox on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's homer in the fourth inning with Shea Langeliers aboard plated the final two runs of the game for the Athletics. The veteran's start was his first since Sunday, and the productive day extended a brief surge that's now seen Peterson go 5-for-13 with a double, three RBI, four walks, a stolen base and four total runs in his last six games.
Jul 18 2023Peterson is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will sit for a third straight game Tuesday as the A's face off with southpaw Joe Jacques. Aledmys Diaz will draw the start at third base and bat sixth against Boston.
Jul 17 2023Peterson will sit Monday against the Red Sox, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will remain on the bench for a second consecutive game after he went 2-for-8 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base over Oakland's three-game series with the Twins. Jordan Diaz will draw the start at the hot corner and bat second in the series opener with Boston.
Jul 16 2023Peterson isn't in the Athletics' lineup Sunday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has recorded hits in both of Oakland's games since the All-Star break and will get a day to rest Sunday. Aledmys Diaz will fill in at third base and bat seventh in Peterson's place.
Jul 10 2023Peterson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run in a loss to the Red Sox on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson closed out the first half on a high note with his first multi-hit effort since June 14. The veteran infielder has been mired in a prolonged 18-game slump since that point that had seen him produce just a .113/.176/.194 slash line across 69 plate appearances, and given the Athletics' non-contending status, it's certainly possible he increasingly cedes playing time to younger options during the second half of the campaign.
Jul 8 2023Peterson will hit the bench against lefty James Paxton and the Red Sox on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started against a lefty in Friday's series opener, but Brennan Bernardino was merely an opener in that contest. Peterson owns a career 52 wRC+ against southpaws, so it's no surprise to see him sit against Paxton. Aledmys Diaz will take over at the hot corner.
Jul 5 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will give way to Aledmys Diaz at third base while southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez takes the bump for Detroit. Peterson -- who also sat Tuesday against lefty Tarik Skubal -- is slashing just .171/.222/.171 in 46 plate appearances versus southpaws in 2023.
Jun 15 2023Peterson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson put together the only multi-hit effort of the night for the A's and pulled within one stolen base of his third consecutive season with double-digit swipes. The veteran's recent hot streak at the plate continued as well, as he now has four multi-hit efforts in the last eight games, a stretch during which he's reached safely 16 times across 28 plate appearances.
Jun 11 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Brewers are bringing the right-handed Freddy Peralta to the hill Sunday, the lefty-hitting Peterson will get a rare day off with the platoon advantage in his favor. Peterson had started each of Oakland's last seven games while going 10-for-24 with two home runs and three stolen bases, so his spot in the lineup still appears to be secure.
Jun 10 2023Peterson went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in a win over the Brewers on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson cooled off at the plate somewhat after going 7-for-10 with two home runs and seven RBI over the last two games of the series against the Pirates. However, his seventh stolen base of the season leaves him just three shy of what would be a third straight double-digit tally in that category. Peterson's aforementioned two-game offensive outburst did give his batting average a much-needed boost over the Mendoza Line, but his current .655 OPS is still his lowest since 2019.
Jun 8 2023Peterson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-5 victory over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is now 7-for-9 with seven RBI over his last two games -- he'd gone 9-for-57 (.158) with two RBI in his previous 20 contests. Despite his recent offensive explosion, Peterson is still slashing a mediocre .225/.320/.343 with five homers, 20 RBI, 19 runs scored and six stolen bases through 194 plate appearances. The veteran infielder should continue to see regular at-bats on a rebuilding Oakland team.
Jun 6 2023Peterson went 5-for-5 with a pair of two-run home runs, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was exceptional Tuesday, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate with three singles and two long balls to mark the first multi-homer performance of his 10-year career. The outburst snapped a cold streak for Peterson, who entered the contest 4-for-35 (.114) across his last 12 games. Though he serves as the Athletics' everyday third baseman, his fantasy upside is capped by the Athletics' lack of offensive firepower and his late position in the order.
Jun 5 2023Peterson went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a steal in Sunday's loss against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's now 6-for-7 on stolen base attempts this season. The veteran infielder hasn't offered much at the plate, however, going 4-for-32 (.125) in his last 11 games. Though he's still serving as Oakland's primary third baseman, Peterson is slashing just .197/.294/.280 with three homers, 15 runs scored and 13 RBI through 180 plate appearances this season.
Jun 2 2023Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has now been on the bench two of the last three games and the one time he was in there was against a lefty, which is a little odd. The Athletics are going with Tony Kemp at second base and Jonah Bride at third Friday.
May 30 2023Peterson isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will take off Tuesday after recording his first RBI in 11 games during Monday's contest. While Peterson sits, Jonah Bride will start at third base and bat seventh.
May 28 2023Peterson went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-1 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson went hitless for the fifth time in his last six games, a span in which he's gone 1-for-19, but he was able to make an impact in his one trip on base. The steal was his fifth of the season. He's hitting just .146 (6-for-41) over his last 14 contests, but the Athletics are lacking for more effective options. Peterson has a .194/.291/.285 slash line with three home runs, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored through 165 plate appearances as Oakland's primary third baseman this year.
May 27 2023Peterson is not in the starting lineup Saturday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will get a breather as Oakland faces southpaw Framber Valdez on the mound. Aledmys Diaz will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth versus the Astros.
May 21 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has a .693 OPS through 16 games in May and will take a seat Sunday with lefty Framber Valdez pitching for Houston. Nick Allen will start at shortstop with Aledmys Diaz covering the hot corner.
May 16 2023Peterson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's 409-foot shot to right center in the eighth inning accounted for the Athletics' final run of the night. The veteran is still carrying a lackluster .212/.308/.327 slash line across 130 plate appearances for the season, but he's now reached safely in seven of the last eight games, a stretch during which he's hitting .333 with two home runs, four walks, four RBI and three runs over 25 plate appearances.
May 14 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has a .229/.308/.314 slash line and 28.2 percent strikeout rate through 11 games in May and will head to the bench Sunday with southpaw Andrew Heaney pitching for Texas. Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) will start at the hot corner in his return from the injured list.
May 10 2023Peterson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 11-3 loss against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson cut the A's deficit to 4-2 in the second inning with a solo shot off Jhony Brito, going back-to-back with Carlos Perez. It's the second home run of the season for Peterson and his first since April 3. The 33-year-old utilityman has a modest four-game hitting streak, going 5-for-11 in that span. Still, it's hard to see a path toward fantasy relevance for Peterson while playing a part-time role on a struggling Oakland team. On the season, he's slashing just .214/.305/.311 with 11 RBI, 10 runs scored and four stolen bases through 118 plate appearances.
May 8 2023Peterson is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will remain on the bench Monday as the Athletics face left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound. Kevin Smith will draw the start at third base and bat eighth in the series opener.
May 7 2023Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will see his streak of eight consecutive starts come to an end while the Royals bring a southpaw (Ryan Yarbrough) to the hill for the series finale. Kevin Smith will replace Peterson at third base and will bat eighth.
May 4 2023Peterson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in the Athletics' extra-inning loss to the Mariners on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson swiped second base for the second straight night to push his season total to four. The veteran infielder now has a four-game hitting streak as well, his longest stretch of success at the plate in a season where he's still sporting just a .205/.302/.289 slash line across 96 plate appearances.
May 2 2023Peterson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson hit a seventh-inning single and stole second, but he was stranded on base. The infielder has hit safely in three straight games, going 4-for-11 with two walks and two runs scored in that span. He's up to a .203/.304/.291 slash line with three steals, one home run, eight RBI and nine runs scored through 92 plate appearances this season. Peterson has seen a little more than a strong-side platoon role, but he's only a lock for the lineup against right-handed pitchers.
Apr 6 2023Peterson went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in an extra-inning loss to the Guardians on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson got on board via a fielder's choice bunt in the first inning and stole second for his first swipe of the season. The veteran recorded back-to-back double-digit steal tallies in Milwaukee the last two years, so there's some modest upside there fantasy-wise. However, Peterson has gotten his A's tenure off to a sluggish start otherwise, with a three-run home run against Cleveland on Monday his only hit across 16 plate appearances thus far.
Apr 3 2023Peterson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in an extra-inning loss to the Guardians on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's 401-foot shot to right center in the second inning extended Oakland's lead to 6-2 at the time and served as his first time leaving the yard in an A's uniform. Monday was only Peterson's second start over the first four games of the season, but he should continue to see plenty of opportunity against right-handed pitching.
Apr 2 2023Peterson is not in the lineup again for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson sits for the second consecutive game with Aledmys Diaz hitting second and playing third while Nick Allen gets the start at shortstop and hits ninth. It appears the A's will have Peterson sit against southpaws in the early portion of the season, which limits an early meager fantasy outlook for the 2023 campaign.
Apr 1 2023Peterson will sit Saturday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started at third base in the season opener and hit seventh. He went hitless in three at-bats. He'll sit Saturday against southpaw Patrick Sandoval, with Aledmys Diaz sliding to third base and Nick Allen taking Diaz's spot at shortstop.
Mar 26 2023Peterson played at third base in both Friday's and Sunday's Cactus League games against the White Sox and Giants, respectively, after being hit by a pitch Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson went a combined 2-for-5 in that pair of exhibitions, and although he didn't play a full nine innings in either, it's clear he's unaffected from having been plunked. The veteran appears set to open the season as the everyday third baseman.
Mar 17 2023Peterson is hitting .240 (6-for-25) with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, seven walks, a stolen base and four runs across 12 Cactus League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran offseason signing has produced noteworthy results in his bid to lock down the starting third base job on the Opening Day roster. Peterson owns a career .231 average and .664 OPS across 741 big-league games, so his real-world and fantasy ceilings are irrefutably capped; nevertheless, he's proven a serviceable contributor over the years in large part due to his speed, which has helped him leg out 90 doubles, 14 triples and 60 steals since 2015. The lefty-swinging Peterson should open the season seeing the majority of work against right-handed pitching, but it's worth noting he also boasts a .268 average and .340 on-base percentage in 94 plate appearances versus southpaws over the last three seasons.
Dec 13 2022Peterson's two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Athletics was formally announced Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has put up a .706 OPS with 14 home runs and 22 stolen bases over the last two seasons in a utility role with the Brewers. He should play pretty regularly against righties and offers some deep-league consideration mostly because of his speed.
Dec 6 2022Peterson signed a two-year contract with the Athletics on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson recorded a 76 wRC+ through the end of his age-29 season, but he's posted a 98 wRC+ since turning 30 prior to the 2020 campaign. That doesn't make him much more than a part-time player, though the Athletics have enough holes on their roster that Peterson could feature regularly. Between his merely mediocre bat, tough home park and weak surrounding lineup, however, even an everyday role would leave Peterson without much fantasy appeal outside of deep leagues.
Oct 3 2022Peterson isn't in the starting lineup Monday against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will take a seat Monday, as the lefty-throwing Tommy Henry will begin the game on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner instead and bat leadoff for Milwaukee.
Sep 28 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in five games. Though his absence Wednesday comes with southpaw Jose Quintana on the bump, the lefty-hitting Peterson has also sat against two right-handed pitchers during that five-game stretch. Luis Urias looks to have wrested a regular role in the infield away from Peterson.
Sep 25 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is on the bench Sunday for a third consecutive game amid a 1-for-17 slump. Mike Brosseau will receive the start at the hot corner with lefty Nick Lodolo on the mound for Cincinnati.
Sep 24 2022Peterson isn't starting Saturday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game after going 0-for-11 with a run, a walk and three strikeouts over his last four matchups. Luis Urias will start at the hot corner and bat seventh.
Sep 23 2022Peterson isn't in the lineup Friday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has gone 0-for-11 with a run, a walk and three strikeouts over the last four games and will get a breather Friday. Luis Urias is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh.
Sep 20 2022Peterson isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will step out of the lineup after going 2-for-12 with two RBI over his last five games. Luis Urias will take his spot at third base and bat fourth.
Sep 18 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has a .130/.333/.130 slash line with seven walks, five runs and nine strikeouts over his past nine games and will head to the bench Sunday. Luis Urias will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth.
Sep 13 2022Peterson isn't in the lineup Tuesday against St. Louis, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-throwing Jordan Montgomery will start the game on the mound for the Cardinals, so Peterson will hand third base off to Mike Brosseau, who will lead off the Brewers' order.
Sep 9 2022Peterson is not in Friday's lineup against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will take a seat Friday as the Reds begin the game with lefty-throwing Nick Lodolo on the mound. Mike Brosseau will fill in at third base and bat fifth in the order.
Sep 8 2022Peterson went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one steal in Thursday's win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has hit well in his last seven games, recording a .333 average over 18 at-bats. The third baseman is turning in career highs in batting average (.260), slugging percentage (.430), and OPS (.758) during 2022. Interestingly, the 32-year-old is outstanding on the road with an. 899 OPS in 156 plate appearances compared to a .569 OPS in 117 plate appearances at home.
Sep 7 2022Peterson will sit Wednesday versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will get a day off after he went 1-for-6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the first two games of the series. Luis Urias will take over at third base and bat seventh in the series finale.
Sep 4 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With starts at third base in six of the previous seven contests, Peterson appears to have at least temporarily supplanted Luis Urias as the preferred option at the position. However, after striking out three times in Saturday's 8-6 win, Peterson will cede the hot corner to Urias in the series finale.
Aug 31 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he's on the bench for the series finale against Pirates right-hander Zach Thompson, Peterson started against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three contests and went 3-for-8 with a run scored. At least for the time being, Peterson may have overtaken Luis Urias as the Brewers' preferred third baseman with the latter slashing .153/.287/.292 in August. Urias will get a chance to try and right the ship Wednesday while Peterson rests.
Aug 30 2022Peterson is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started at third base each of the last two days, and he will do the same Tuesday night. He has not officially supplanted Luis Urias as the Brewers' starting third baseman, but it looks like he will have a chance to do so.
Aug 26 2022Peterson (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had been on the shelf for over a month with a sprained left elbow, but he's ready to return after going 2-for-9 in a trio of rehab games. He'll fill a utility role down the stretch for the Brewers.
Aug 21 2022Peterson (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is expected to play three consecutive days for the High-A affiliate before returning to Milwaukee on Friday and potentially getting activated from the injured list ahead of the Brewers' series opener with the Cubs if team doctors are satisfied with the condition of his sprained left elbow. Once reinstated from the IL, Peterson is expected to settle back in as the Brewers' top utility man.
Aug 9 2022Peterson (elbow) fielded groundballs Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is making good progress in his recovery, and he said Tuesday that he is now "basically doing everything besides hitting." It remains to be seen when Peterson will be ready to take cuts again, but he will likely be out at least another couple weeks.
Jul 23 2022Peterson (elbow) will likely be sidelined until at least the end of August, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Peterson has been dealing with his elbow injury for approximately three weeks, and he'll require more than the minimum of 10 days on the IL. He received a PRP injection Saturday and will be shut down for a few days before beginning his rehab, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. Counsell said that a return at the end of August is "optimistic," so it's possible that the 32-year-old will be unavailable until sometime in September. Mike Brosseau will likely see an uptick in playing time at third base behind Luis Urias over the next few weeks.
Jul 14 2022Peterson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday in the Brewers' 4-1 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The long ball was his eighth of the season, putting him within striking distance of becoming the 15th player in baseball with both double-digit home runs and stolen bases. With only two of his 10 stolen bases coming since June 5, Peterson hasn't been running much of late, but he's made up for it to some degree by slashing .273/.333/.443 over that stretch. The 32-year-old has been an underrated fantasy asset while holding down a full-time role for most of the season, as his ability to play all over the infield and outfield typically makes Peterson manager Craig Counsell's go-to option to fill in whenever the Brewers are down a regular player due to injury.
Jul 10 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will retreat to the bench with southpaw Jose Quintana on the mound, opening up a spot in the outfield for Jonathan Davis, who sat out the past two contests. Peterson had started each of the past four games in right field, going 3-for-12 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base.
Jul 3 2022Peterson went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Saturday's 7-4 loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will take a seven-game hitting streak into Sunday's series finale in Pittsburgh and has produced four extra-base knocks (one home run, three doubles) over that stretch. He'll start in right field and bat eighth Sunday, and Peterson should have a clear path to a regular spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching while both Hunter Renfroe (calf) and Tyrone Taylor (concussion) are on the injured list.
Jun 29 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Jalen Beeks on the bump for Tampa Bay, the lefty-hitting Peterson will head to the bench after starting in six of the past seven games. Peterson looks as though he'll still play fairly regularly against right-handed pitching, though he's expected to see most of his opportunities in right field moving forward now that the Brewers are back to full strength in the infield after Kolten Wong returned from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Jun 28 2022Peterson will start in right field and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kolten Wong's (calf) return from the injured list Tuesday puts the Brewers back to full strength in the infield, but Peterson's ability to handle either corner-outfield spot could allow him to hold down a strong-side platoon role while Hunter Renfroe (hamstring) remains on the IL. The lefty-hitting Peterson will stick in the lineup with right-hander Shane Baz on the mound for Tampa Bay, while the righty-hitting Jonathan Davis -- who started in each of the past four games -- finds himself on the bench with Wong back in action.
Jun 27 2022Peterson went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a steal in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson scored on a Christian Yelich groundout in the second inning. He also swiped a bag in the game. It was his ninth steal of the season. The third baseman is on a three-game hit streak, raising his batting average to .231 in the process. Peterson is slashing .262/.324/.431 in June.
Jun 25 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started the past four games and went 2-for-13 with an RBI, a run and six strikeouts, and he'll take a seat Saturday with left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on the mound for Toronto. Mike Brosseau will man the hot corner and bat sixth for Milwaukee.
Jun 19 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Peterson will take a seat against Reds southpaw Mike Minor, allowing the righty-hitting Mark Mathias to enter the lineup. Mathias will cover second base while Luis Urias shifts over to cover Peterson's usual post at third base.
Jun 14 2022Peterson will start at third base and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson briefly lost hold of a regular starting role June 8 when Willy Adames made his return from the 10-day injured list, but Kolten Wong (calf) was deactivated three days later to reopen playing time in the infield. The 32-year-old Peterson will pick up his fifth start at third base in six games Tuesday and should play often against right-handed pitching until Wong is back from the IL.
Jun 7 2022Peterson is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder started the past five games but will take a seat Tuesday with lefty Ranger Suarez pitching for Philadelphia. Peterson is unlikely to see consistent starting chances going forward since Willy Adames (ankle/quadriceps) is poised to be activated Wednesday, which will push Luis Urias from shortstop back to third base.
Jun 3 2022Peterson went 2-for-3 with one triple, three RBI, one run scored and one steal in Thursday's victory over San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson walked in his first at-bat and proceed to swipe second, registering his seventh steal of the season. He reached base again in his second plate appearance with a single, but his game-tying, three RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth was the biggest swing of the night for either team. Peterson eventually scored the game-winning run on an Andrew McCutchen single. Over his last six games, Peterson has eight hits in 16 plate appearances, including two doubles, two triples and eight RBI.
May 29 2022Peterson went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson padded the Brewers' lead in the fifth inning with his first homer since May 15. He hadn't posted a multi-hit effort since May 10, going just 6-for-36 across 15 games prior to Sunday's strong game. The utility man is up to a .212/.304/.374 slash line with four homers, 12 RBI, 19 runs scored, four doubles and six stolen bases across 113 plate appearances. Peterson should continue to see regular playing time at third base for a little longer, but Willy Adames' (ankle) return is getting closer, as he'll move his rehab assignment from Single-A Carolina to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
May 18 2022Peterson went 0-for-1 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While he didn't get the start, Peterson still played a huge role in the Brewers' come-from-behind win. He pinch hit for Mike Brosseau in the ninth inning, drew a walk off Kenley Jansen and then scored the tying run, before crossing the plate with the game-winning run in the 11th on Keston Hiura's walkoff homer. Peterson should be able to keep a consistent role at third base while Luis Urias is covering shortstop for Willy Adames (ankle), and while the veteran utility player is only batting .224 through 87 plate appearances on the year, it comes with three homers, six steals, nine RBI and 16 runs.
May 17 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will head to the bench after seven of the last eight games while seeing action at three different positions. Andrew McCutchen (illness) is expected to return from the COVID-19 injured list later this week and close off a potential avenue to playing time in the outfield or at designated hitter, but Peterson could continue to pick up starts in the infield if Willy Adames (ankle) is forced to the 10-day IL.
May 16 2022Peterson will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against Atlanta, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's defensive versatility has allowed him to hold down a quasi-everyday role of late, as he'll stay in the lineup for the seventh time in eight games Monday while playing his third different position. He's helped his case for seeing steady at-bats by going 7-for-24 with two home runs and three walks over his last seven starts. The Brewers are without Willy Adames (ankle) due to an injury that could force him to the injured list, so Peterson looks like he may have a clear path to a regular role at third base if Luis Urias is forced to cover shortstop in Adames' stead.
May 10 2022Peterson will start at third base and bat seventh in Tuesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will stay in the lineup for the third game in a row, but his uptick in playing time has largely been a byproduct of how the Brewers have sequenced the off days for some of their everyday players. He'll benefit from Hunter Renfroe getting a day off Tuesday, as Willy Adames will serve as the Brewers' designated hitter while Luis Urias opens up third base for Peterson by shifting over to shortstop.
May 3 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through the first three-plus weeks of the season, Peterson had filled the large side of a platoon at third base with Mike Brosseau, but both players are expected to see their opportunities with the Brewers take a significant hit. Brosseau has already been optioned to Triple-A Nashville, while Peterson is expected to transition into a utility role with Luis Urias (quadriceps) making his return from the injured list. Urias will pick up the start at third base in his season debut Tuesday and should handle an everyday role at the position moving forward.
Apr 30 2022Peterson went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 11-1 rout of the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Kyle Hendricks deep in the second inning, kicking off a six-homer barrage by the Brewers. The long ball was Peterson's first of the year, and while he's been seeing plenty of playing time while Luis Urias (quadriceps) has been sidelined, he hasn't done much with the opportunity, slashing .171/.277/.244 in 47 plate appearances.
Apr 25 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's one of several lefty-hitting regulars in the Milwaukee lineup with southpaw Sam Long on the hill for San Francisco. The righty-hitting Mike Brosseau will step in for Peterson at third base Monday, but both players will see their opportunities to play the hot corner take a hit in the likely event that Luis Urias (quadriceps) returns from the injured list later this week.
Apr 22 2022Peterson isn't starting Friday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started in the last four games and went 2-for-11 with a run, two walks and three strikeouts. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.
Apr 16 2022Peterson isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will take a seat with left-hander Steven Matz on the mound for St. Louis. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.
Apr 15 2022Peterson went 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and a stolen base in Thursday's victory over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had not picked up a hit prior to Thursday, but he finally got on the board with an infield single in the fourth inning. While Peterson has not made much contact, he has reached base four times via the walk and is one of just 13 players league-wide who has recorded more than one steal. He figures to remain on the favorable end of a third-base platoon with Mike Brosseau until Luis Urias (quad) is ready to play.
Apr 13 2022Peterson isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has gone 0-for-9 with a walk, a steal and a strikeout to begin the season, and he'll take a seat for the second time in the last three games with lefty John Means on the mound for Baltimore. Mike Brosseau will start at third base and bat eighth.
Apr 11 2022Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Bruce Zimmermann on the bump for Baltimore, the lefty-hitting Peterson will head to the bench for the second time in the Brewers' first four games. Mike Brosseau will fill in for Peterson at third base, and the two will likely work in a platoon at the hot corner until Luis Urias (quadriceps) is ready to return from the injured list.
Apr 9 2022Peterson isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started in Thursday's Opening Day matchup and went 0-for-1 with a walk and a steal. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against left-hander Justin Steele.
Apr 3 2022Peterson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's spring game versus Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is hitting just .217 this spring, but his OBP is nearly 100 points higher, and he owns a respectable .743 OPS over 27 appearances. Peterson will fill a super-utility role when the Brewers are at full strength, but with Luis Urias (quad) set to miss the start of the season, Peterson is on track to open the season on the favorable side of a third-base platoon with Mike Brosseau.
Nov 30 2021Peterson signed a one-year deal with the Brewers on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. Peterson proved to be a useful bench piece for Milwaukee last season, hitting .247/.348/.367 (good for a roughly average 97 wRC+) in 94 games while appearing everywhere except catcher and center field.
Sep 15 2021Peterson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old scored on a Lorenzo Cain double in the second inning, but Milwaukee mustered just one hit and one walk in the final seven frames. Peterson is up to 10-for-11 in stolen base attempts this year. He's slashing .265/.376/.390 with five home runs, 30 RBI, 35 runs scored and 11 doubles. The utility man filled in for Avisail Garcia (back) in right field Wednesday, but that's not likely to be a long-term issue.
Sep 8 2021Peterson remains on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Before sitting out Tuesday's 10-0 win, Peterson slashed .295/.392/.364 with four runs, four RBI and a stolen base over a stretch of 13 consecutive starts. Peterson's ability to play all over the infield and outfield while getting on base at a high clip should help his case for receiving semi-regular work, but he won't have a clear path to an everyday role now that Avisail Garcia, Eduardo Escobar and Kolten Wong are all back in action after recently missing time.
Aug 30 2021Peterson went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in Monday's 3-1 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson scored the second run of the game when Corbin Burnes drove him in in the second inning. In addition, he added a ground-rule double in the eighth frame. It was the third game this season Peterson reached base safely four times. The 31-year-old is slashing .278/.400/.428 with five homers, 28 RBI, 32 runs and eight steals in 220 plate appearances. He is receiving more playing time temporarily while Eduardo Escobar (hamstring) is on the 10-day injured list.
Aug 26 2021Peterson went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson provided some insurance in the seventh with an RBI ground-rule double that extended the Brewers' lead to 2-0. The 31-year-old hasn't gotten a ton of consistent playing time since returning from the COVID-IL earlier this month, but he may have a window of opportunity for some additional starts at the hot corner while Eduardo Escobar (hamstring) is on the 10-day injured list. Peterson is now slashing .268/.393/.427 with five homers, 27 RBI, 29 runs scored, eight steals and 33:41 BB:K over 201 plate appearances.
Aug 13 2021Peterson went 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI, three runs and a walk in Thursday's victory over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started Thursday for just the third time since coming off the COVID-19 injured list Aug. 2, and he made the most of the opportunity, reaching in all six plate appearances and raising his OPS a whopping 70 points to .821. Peterson has posted a stellar .980 OPS in 31 games since June 23, but with the Brewers relatively healthy, expect him to continue filling a part-time role.
Aug 2 2021Peterson was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson spent nearly a week away from the team due to contact tracing, but he'll be available for Monday's series opener against the Pirates. Prior to his absence, the 31-year-old had gone 4-for-21 with a run, an RBI, two stolen bases and three walks across seven games since the All-Star break.
Jul 27 2021Peterson was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday due to contact tracing, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Outfielder Christian Yelich is the only Brewer to have been reported to test positive for the virus, so at this point it sounds like Peterson is out because of health and safety protocols. Per Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Peterson will be forced to quarantine for at least the next seven days, which means he won't return to the active roster until Aug. 3 at the earliest.
Jul 24 2021Peterson isn't in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Brewers are facing left-hander Carlos Rodon on Saturday, so Peterson will be excluded from the lineup for the third time in the last four games. Rowdy Tellez will start at first base and bat seventh.
Jul 20 2021Peterson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had started each of Milwaukee's previous 10 games, going 7-for-32 with a home run, eight walks, five runs, three RBI and two stolen bases. He doesn't have a clear path to an everyday role at any one spot with second baseman Kolten Wong back from the injured list and outfielder Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) on track to return later this week, but Peterson's ability to play all over the diamond and outfield could allow him to maintain a near-everyday role while he wields a hot bat. The lefty-hitting Peterson's absence from the lineup Tuesday appears to be mostly a byproduct of southpaw Mike Minor starting for Kansas City.
Jul 18 2021Peterson will lead off and start at second base in Sunday's series finale in Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be filling in at the keystone for Kolten Wong, who is getting a breather after manning the position in the first two games of the series following his reinstatement from the 10-day injured list. With Wong back in the fold, Peterson likely won't have a clear path to regular playing time at second base, but his positional versatility should afford him multiple avenues into the lineup. Peterson had started at first base over Rowdy Tellez and Keston Hiura on Friday and Saturday, going 3-for-8 with a pair of walks, an RBI and a run between the contests.
Jul 7 2021Peterson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a 4-3 loss to the Mets in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson went yard off Mets ace Jacob deGrom in the fifth inning. Combined with Luis Urias' leadoff homer, Milwaukee was the first team to hit multiple long balls in one game off deGrom. In the eighth, Peterson was the initial runner, and he scored when Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The 30-year-old Peterson is up to four homers, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored through 38 games.
Jul 4 2021Peterson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson is 14-for-30 with a homer, five doubles, eight walks, 11 RBI, 10 runs and two stolen bases in his past 10 games, and he'll take a seat Sunday after making seven consecutive starts. Despite the day off, the 31-year-old should continue seeing regular playing time until Kolten Wong (calf) returns sometime after the All-Star break.
Jul 1 2021Peterson will start at third base and bat sixth Thursday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will stick in the lineup for the fifth game in a row, but his path to an everyday role still appears blocked. Before checking back into the starting nine Thursday, second baseman Kolten Wong (calf) missed the previous four games, and third baseman Luis Urias appears to be receiving a routine maintenance day in the series opener in Pittsburgh. Assuming both Wong and Urias are in the lineup together Friday, Peterson could find himself back on the bench despite going 10-for-18 with four doubles, five RBI and seven runs over his past seven appearances.
Jun 29 2021Peterson went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a steal in Monday's victory over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has filled in admirably for the injured Kolten Wong (calf) over the past two days, reaching base a total of seven times. He will fill a utility role when Wong is back in action, but Peterson has been a capable fill-in when needed, posting a .365 OBP and .745 OPS over 30 appearances this season.
Jun 20 2021Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had started in nine of Milwaukee's previous 10 games, with five of those assignments coming at the keystone. After everyday second baseman Kolten Wong was reinstated from the injured list Friday, Peterson is expected to transition into more of a utility role, which may only afford him a handful of starts per week. With his playing time set to decline, Peterson won't be worth monitoring outside of NL-only leagues.
Jun 13 2021Peterson will start in left field and bat fifth Sunday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in each of the Brewers' previous three contests, Peterson will stick in the lineup for a fourth straight contest, this time replacing a resting Christian Yelich. Peterson has reached base at a .385 clip over the past three games, and he looks like he'll have his clearest plan to the keystone in the short term while Kolten Wong (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list.
Jun 8 2021The Brewers recalled Peterson from Triple-A Nashville prior to Tuesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was designated for assignment May 24 after he finished his rehab assignment for an injured thumb, and was ultimately outrighted to Triple-A on May 26. He'll now return to the Brewers, where he'll look to improve upon a .208/.321/.458 slash line that he posted in 28 major-league plate appearances during April. Peterson will take the roster spot of Keston Hiura, who was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
May 24 2021Peterson (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson spent just over a month on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury and had been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville recently. While the 31-year-old is now healthy, he'll be cast off the 40-man roster as part of a shuffle after Keston Hiura was recalled in a corresponding move.
May 3 2021Peterson (thumb) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson has been on the shelf for just over the minimum 10 days, so he likely won't need much time to ramp up in the minors before being ready to return from the injured list. The 30-year-old will likely serve as Milwaukee's top utility man once he's reinstated.
Apr 23 2021Peterson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had previously dealt with a thumb issue throughout March, though he was able to make the Opening Day roster. he's performed well enough in a part-time role, posting a .779 OPS and homering twice in 28 trips to the plate. Kolten Wong (oblique) returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.
Apr 21 2021Peterson went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson entered in the seventh inning to pinch hit for Corbin Burnes, but stayed in the game at second base. His second plate appearance led to his first home run of the season off Craig Stammen in the ninth inning. Peterson is getting more playing time with Kolten Wong (oblique) on the 10-day injured list, but he usually comes off the bench. He only has three hits and walks each in 24 plate appearances.
Apr 21 2021Peterson went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a walk in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started Wednesday after a pinch hit home run Tuesday. The 30-year-old produced his first multi-hit game of the season and homered in the sixth inning off Keone Kela. Normally, a bench player, Peterson is taking full advantage of his opportunities with injuries to multiple Brewers starters.
Apr 14 2021Peterson isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson will retreat to the bench once again after he went hitless with two walks and three strikeouts in eight at-bats this year. Keston Hiura will start at second base while Daniel Vogelbach will take over at first base.
Apr 12 2021Peterson isn't starting Monday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson had started each of the last two games and went hitless with one walk and three strikeouts in eight plate appearances. Keston Hiura will shift to second base Monday while Daniel Vogelbach starts at first base.
Apr 10 2021Peterson is starting Saturday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson's contract was selected by the Brewers on Saturday after Kolten Wong (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. While Daniel Robertson should see most of the playing time at second base in Wong's absence, Peterson will make his season debut at the keystone Saturday, batting seventh.
Mar 21 2021Peterson aggravated his thumb injury and has been informed he won't make the Opening Day roster, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old dealt with the thumb issue earlier in spring training, and the issue has resurfaced since returning to action March 10. Peterson is in camp as a non-roster invitee and will focus on getting healthy in hopes of an early season promotion after failing to make the Opening Day roster.
Mar 10 2021Peterson (thumb) will start in right field and will bat fifth in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson missed about a week of game action due to a thumb injury before making an appearance off the bench in Monday's 10-9 win over the Angels. After playing second base and recording a base hit in his lone at-bat, Peterson will now get a look in the outfield in his second start of spring training. The non-roster invitee is in the mix for a bench role on the Brewers' Opening Day roster.
Mar 6 2021Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Peterson has been unavailable over the past few days due to a thumb injury, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson appeared in Monday's spring game against the Diamondbacks, but he hasn't been available for the Brewers since then. However, Counsell said the 30-year-old is "kind of back on track," and he was hopeful that Peterson will be able to return to action Tuesday. Peterson went 1-for-2 in his first Cactus League appearance of the season.
Jan 13 2021Peterson signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers as a non-roster invitee Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was non-tendered by Milwaukee in December after slashing .200/.393/.356 with two home runs, five RBI and 15 walks over 61 plate appearances during his first year with the team in 2020. The 30-year-old will get to work with the major-league coaching staff during spring training and could contend for a major-league roster spot at some point in 2021, given his defensive versatility.
Dec 2 2020Peterson was non-tendered by the Brewers on Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson served as a bench player for the Brewers in 2020 and had the best offensive season of his career, posting a .749 OPS and 25 percent walk rate in 61 plate appearances. The 30-year-old has seen major-league action with four different teams over the past four years, and he could add another team to that list in 2021 now that he's a free agent.
Sep 25 2020Peterson remains out of the lineup for Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson wasn't in the lineup for Friday's matinee, and he'll retreat to the bench once again for Game 2 of the twin bill. Ryan Braun will remain in right field with Daniel Vogelbach serving as the designated hitter.
Sep 24 2020Peterson is not in Thursday's lineup against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He had started four games in a row prior to this contest and is hitting .194 with two home runs and one steal in 36 at-bats this month. Tyrone Taylor will start in right field and bat sixth.
Sep 23 2020Peterson will start in right field and will bat sixth Wednesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson served as the Brewers' leadoff man in Tuesday's 3-2 win, but he'll slide down the order in the series finale with Avisail Garcia rejoining the lineup. Set to make his fourth straight start Wednesday, Peterson has seemingly displaced Luis Urias in the lineup, at least against right-handed pitching.
Sep 21 2020Peterson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson cut Cincinnati's lead to 6-3 with his two-run shot off Nate Jones in the ninth. The utility man has hit .211/.392/.395 with two homers and five RBI across 51 plate appearances on the season.
Sep 16 2020Peterson went 0-for-2 with an RBI, two runs and two walks in Tuesday's blowout victory over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson started at second base for the second time in as many days, and while he did not record a hit, he still made a mark in the box score. Peterson has recorded just five hits in 28 at-bats this season -- good for a lowly .179 batting average -- but thanks to a quality .385 OBP and his ability to play both the infield and outfield, he found himself in the starting lineup 10 times in the Brewers' last 20 games.
Sep 2 2020Peterson went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson pinch hit for Avisail Garcia in the eighth inning and blasted a two-run homer to right field to give the Brewers some breathing room. The 30-year-old Peterson has just the one homers, two RBI and two runs scored through 18 plate appearances this season. He's typically used in a bench role.
Aug 22 2020Peterson's contract was selected by the Brewers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Peterson was a non-roster invitee during camp and began the season at alternate camp, but he'll serve as a utility option for the major-league club after Brock Holt was designated for assignment Saturday. The 30-year-old impressed in camp but has had lackluster results in previous major-league action.
Aug 27 2019Peterson remains on the bench Tuesday against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Aug 25 2019Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Aug 23 2019Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Tampa Bay, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Aug 17 2019Peterson is out of the starting lineup Saturday against the Red Sox, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Aug 14 2019Peterson will start in left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Yankees, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Aug 11 2019Peterson went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Astros.
Aug 4 2019Peterson went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored Sunday against Toronto.
Jul 28 2019Peterson will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Jul 12 2018Peterson (knee) is in Thursday's starting lineup against the Phillies, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Peterson was removed from Monday's game after colliding into the outfield wall, but he appears to be good to go as he's slated to bat ninth and man left field. He's batting .192 with 12 extra-base hits and 18 RBI through 53 games in 2018.
Jul 9 2018Peterson suffered a knee injury during Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.Peterson was removed from the game as a precaution after colliding with the outfield wall. He was taken for X-rays, but the results came back negative so he'll be considered day-to-day moving forward.
Jun 23 2018Peterson is out of the lineup against Atlanta on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The outfielder will remain out of the starting nine for a second straight game while Mark Trumbo gets a start in left field. Over 43 games this year, Peterson is hitting .203/.321/.339 with two home runs, 17 RBI and eight stolen bases.
Jun 17 2018Peterson went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI during Sunday's tilt with Miami.Peterson struck in the second inning with a two-run double, followed by a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead. Despite collecting four RBI, Peterson is slashing a disappointing .196/.320/.308 with one homer and 15 RBI through 39 games this season.
Jun 10 2018Peterson will serve as the Orioles' leadoff man and play third base Sunday against the Blue Jays, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports. With the Orioles' primary table setter this season, Trey Mancini, owning just a .307 on-base percentage on the campaign, it appears that manager Buck Showalter is ready to consider other options atop the order. After reaching base three times out of the leadoff spot Saturday, Peterson will receive another opportunity to prove that he's worthy of the assignment. Peterson has posted a double-digit walk rates in each of the past three seasons, but his poor contact skills and lack of pop have limited him to a career .643 OPS.
May 8 2018Peterson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Royals and is expected to lose out on a full-time role at second base following the activation of Jonathan Schoop (oblique) from the 10-day disabled list.Peterson had started in nine of the Orioles' past 10 games, with eight of those assignments coming at second base. Though Schoop's return will close off his path to regular playing time at the keystone, Peterson could soon factor more prominently into the mix in right field with the primary starter at that position, Anthony Santander, hitting just .202/.245/.315 on the season and likely in need of some more development time in the minors. Once May 12 arrives, Santander, a 2016 Rule 5 draft pick, will have accrued 90 days of big-league service time, which would make him eligible to be optioned to the minors. Even if Santander is sent to Triple-A Norfolk or Double-A Bowie at that time, Peterson likely wouldn't make for an overly appealing fantasy option due to the lack of power and poor on-base skills he has exhibited through parts of five seasons in the big leagues.
May 2 2018Peterson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Peterson has started every game since joining the Orioles at the end of April, but he's hitting just .136/.269/.227 over that stretch, so he'll head to the bench to clear his head while Engelb Vielma picks up a start at the keystone.
Apr 27 2018Peterson is in the lineup for the third straight game Friday against the Tigers.Peterson has started every game since being claimed by the Orioles on Tuesday. His temporary starting role won't last too much longer, though, with Jonathan Schoop working his way back from an oblique injury.
Apr 24 2018Peterson was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Tuesday.Peterson was designated for assignment just two days ago by the Yankees, but he already has a new home. The utility man will report to Baltimore on Wednesday, presumably to fill a reserve utility role for the big-league club. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Gabriel Ynoa (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
Apr 16 2018Peterson signed a major-league contract with the Yankees on Monday.Peterson is set to rejoin the Yankees after being designated for assignment by the team last week and subsequently electing to become a free agent. He is expected to be with the Yankees for their two-game series against the Marlins which starts Monday. The 27-year-old, who went 3-for-9 in two games with the Yankees earlier in the year, will occupy a bench role during his time with the big club.
Apr 15 2018Peterson chose to become a free agent after clearing waivers Sunday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.Peterson has elected free agency after appearing in just two games for the Yankees this season. He went 3-for-9 with a walk in two games.
Apr 8 2018Peterson will start in left field and bat seventh Sunday against the Orioles, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. After being promoted to the active roster Saturday following Brandon Drury's (migraines) placement on the 10-day disabled list, Peterson was immediately inserted into the New York lineup, going 1-for-3 with a walk in the 8-3 victory. He'll pick up a second straight start in the outfield but could lose playing time once Tyler Wade (illness) is healthy again.
Apr 7 2018Peterson's contract was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. With Tyler Wade (illness) day-to-day and Brandon Drury (migraines) on the 10-day DL, the Yankees needed some reinforcements in the infield. Peterson is unlikely to play much or provide fantasy-relevant production. This should be a short-term stay on the big-league roster.
Dec 1 2017The Braves declined to tender Peterson a contract for 2018, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Peterson has shown good patience at the plate over the years with a double-digit walk rate, but he does little else, offensively. He's still just 27 years old, but Peterson looks very much like a career utility type/fringe major leaguer.
Sep 28 2017Peterson is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.Peterson has been filling in for the injured Matt Kemp (hamstring) in left field, but he'll get the day off after starting five of the last six games. In his place, Lane Adams will start and hit eighth.
Sep 25 2017Peterson will start in left field and bat eighth Monday against the Mets in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The continued absence of Matt Kemp (hamstring) has opened up an everyday role in left field for more than a week, and it appears Peterson has emerged as the preferred option at the position. While Matt Adams has typically manned a corner outfield spot this season when one of the Braves' regular options is injured or in need of a breather, his poor defense and status as an impending free agent has likely influenced manager Brian Snitker to turn in Peterson's direction. The spike in playing time enhances Peterson's fantasy outlook, but since he's slashing a meager .214/.316/.315 with only two home runs and three stolen bases in 194 plate appearances, there's not much value to be found here.
Aug 5 2017Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. With Sean Rodriguez getting traded to the Pirates, Peterson simply slots into the utility infielder role with the Braves. Ozzie Albies and Johan Camargo should play almost every day up the middle, so Peterson's playing time will be scant. He is hitting .187/.275/.268 with one home run and two steals in 138 big-league plate appearances this season.
Jul 7 2017Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.Peterson's whirlwind season continues as he makes his third big league stint after being sent down to Triple-A on Tuesday. The utility infielder is batting just .183 with 32 strikeouts in 47 games this season and likely serves as a bench bat until Danny Santana (infection) is able to return to action.
Jul 4 2017Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.Peterson was sent back to the minors to make room for Freddie Freeman (wrist), who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old owns an unimpressive .183/.274/.242 triple slash through 47 games (120 at-bats) with the Braves this season, so he'll head back to the minors where he'll continue to serve as organizational depth.
Jun 22 2017Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.Peterson will replace Rio Ruiz on the roster, who was sent back to Triple-A after struggling mightily at the plate in June. The 27-year-old, who slashed just .194/.293/.259 with zero homers and two steals in 42 games with the big club earlier in the season, will fill a utility role for the Braves.
May 22 2017Peterson is out of the lineup Monday against the Pirates.Peterson had started in each of the Braves' previous seven games, but his run of regular at-bats could come to an end now that the team has added Matt Adams via trade and called up Rio Ruiz to serve as the primary options at the corner-infield spots. The 26-year-old is slashing .200/.308/.267 over 104 plate appearances this season, so he likely wouldn't have had a steady hold on a full-time gig even if the Braves chose not to make those roster moves.
May 21 2017Peterson will start at second base and bat seventh Sunday against the Nationals. The versatile Peterson is making his seventh straight start, this time at second base after manning first base in the preceding three contests. Despite his ability to play all over the infield and both corner outfield spots, Peterson's run of regular at-bats could soon be coming to an end with the Braves acquiring Matt Adams to fill the void at first base left by Freddie Freeman's (wrist) move to the disabled list. Peterson is just filling in for a resting Brandon Phillips on Sunday, so it looks like third base -- where the Braves have been deploying Triple-A call-up Rio Ruiz in recent days -- may represent Peterson's most reasonable path to playing time in future contests.
May 18 2017Peterson is hitting sixth and starting at first base Thursday against the Blue Jays.Freddie Freeman was placed on the disabled list Thursday, so the Braves are putting Peterson at first base. Although Peterson is hitting just .208 with a .601 OPS this season, his versatility has been a tremendous asset to Atlanta, as he's spent time all over the infield and outfield.
May 17 2017Peterson will start at third base and bat seventh Wednesday against the Blue Jays, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. It's the second start in a row at the hot corner for Peterson, who will likely be in line for everyday at-bats in the short term after Adonis Garcia (Achilles) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Peterson has shown some on-base skills on the past, but beyond offering the occasional stolen base, there's not much to get excited about from a fantasy perspective.
Apr 28 2017Peterson went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's win over the Mets.Getting the start at second base in place of Brandon Phillips (groin), Peterson chipped in his second straight two-hit game. Phillips is expected back in action Friday, however, likely sending Peterson and his .652 OPS through 18 games back to the bench.
Apr 27 2017Peterson replaced Brandon Phillips (groin) at second base in the second inning of Wednesday's win over the Mets, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.Phillips isn't expected to miss much time, but Peterson should get at least one start at second base Thursday while the veteran is recuperating. Assuming he does get the nod at the keystone over Emilio Bonifacio, Peterson could be a useful DFS punt play Thursday despite his soft .211/.302/.316 slash line through 43 plate appearances this season.
Apr 15 2017Peterson is not in the lineup Saturday against the Padres, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.Peterson has been manning left field for the Braves while Matt Kemp (hamstring) remains on the disabled list, though he'll take a seat in favor of Chase D'Arnaud with southpaw Clayton Richard taking the mound.
Apr 12 2017Peterson will start in left field and bat eighth in the order Wednesday against the Marlins, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. With Matt Kemp (hamstring) hitting the disabled list, it looks like Peterson will be the club's primary option in left field for the time being, at least against right-handed pitching. Even so, Peterson's value remains mostly limited to NL-only and deeper mixed leagues, as he lacks power and hasn't run much since arriving in the big leagues after routinely racking up high steals totals in the minors.
Apr 9 2017Peterson is starting in left field and batting eighth in replacement of Matt Kemp (hamstring) during Sunday's game against the Pirates.Kemp will miss his second straight game with hamstring tightness, so Peterson gets the chance to man left field Sunday against Gerrit Cole and the Pirates. Kemp is expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday, so Peterson's starting services won't be needed for long.
Feb 22 2017Peterson will compete with Chase d'Arnaud for the primary utility spot on the Braves' bench, Zak Kerr of MLB.com reports. For a rebuilding club, the Braves actually have a fairly set starting lineup following the acquisition of Brandon Phillips, so playing time could be tough to come by for the team's bench. Peterson's better offensive resume could make him manager Brian Snitker's preferred option when someone needs a rest, but the team also lacks any depth in the outfield -- starters Matt Kemp, Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis are currently the only outfielders on the 40-man roster -- so if d'Arnaud or Peterson show they can handle center field on a semi-regular basis, they could see enough at-bats to become a viable option in deep NL-only leagues.
Feb 13 2017Peterson will begin the season on the Braves' bench following the acquisition of Brandon Phillips, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He was already going to have to compete with Sean Rodriguez for playing time at second base, but after Rodriguez's shoulder injury led to the trade for Phillips, the depth chart at the keystone got shaken up. Peterson saw brief action last season in the outfield and one game at third base, but should transition into a utility role on a full-time basis in 2017.
Feb 7 2017Peterson is expected to begin the season as the Braves' starting second baseman. He didn't do much with his 350 at-bats last year, and with top prospect Ozzie Albies knocking on the door, Peterson's hold on the starting job at the keystone may only last until Albies clears the Super-2 deadline in May, which makes him a risky fantasy investment even as a late-round pick. Long-term, Peterson may have to transition to a utility role to keep his spot on the 25-man roster.
Sep 28 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.Peterson tallied two hits Tuesday, but he will be held out in favor of Daniel Castro, a right-handed hitter, with the Braves taking on left-hander Adam Morgan on Wednesday.
Sep 18 2016Peterson (ankle) is in the starting lineup Sunday against the Nationals, batting seventh and playing second base.Peterson missed the past two games due to an ankle injury, but it seems that his ankle is good enough to let the 26-year-old play the series finale. As long as his ankle stays healthy, he'll likely get plenty of innings at the keystone for the remainder of the season.
Sep 17 2016Peterson (ankle) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Nationals.Peterson was scratched from Friday's lineup with a sprained ankle, and the ailment will keep him out of action for at least one more day. Gordon Beckham will get the nod at second base Saturday, as was the case Friday night.
Sep 16 2016Peterson has been scratched from Friday's lineup due to a left ankle sprain, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.Gordon Beckham is set to take over at second base and bat sixth in the order in place of the injured Peterson on Friday. It's too early to tell whether Peterson's ankle injury will keep him out for an extended period, but if it does, Beckham would be the logical replacement to see most of the starts at second base for the Braves.
Sep 11 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mets.Coming off an 0-for-4 Saturday outing, Peterson is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale. With Peterson out, Gordon Beckham will get the nod to start at second and hit eighth.
Sep 6 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.Peterson tallied four hits and three RBI over his last three games, but the Braves will stick to their second-base platoon and use Gordon Beckham at second base Tuesday.
Aug 28 2016Peterson is out of Sunday's lineup versus San Francisco.Gordon Beckham will start at second base and hit seventh while Peterson heads to the bench. The club has a day off Monday, so look for Peterson to return to action Tuesday when the Braves host the Padres.
Aug 23 2016Peterson is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.Peterson was scratched from Monday's lineup due to lingering soreness from a collision with the wall in Sunday's game, but it appears he is feeling good enough to get back on the field. Peterson will man second base and hit seventh for the Braves on Tuesday night.
Aug 22 2016Peterson has been scratched from Monday's lineup against Arizona for undisclosed reasons. It's unclear what's wrong with Peterson or if he will be available off the bench in a pinch-hitting role. Consider him day-to-day until we hear more.
Aug 22 2016Peterson is dealing with general soreness after colliding with the outfield wall Sunday against Washington, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.Peterson was a late scratch from Monday's lineup in Arizona despite pleading with interim manager Brian Snitker to stay active. Given that the training staff almost allowed him to play Monday, it seems that he has a legitimate chance to rejoin the lineup Tuesday.
Aug 19 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.Peterson went 0-for-9 over the last four games he played in, so manager Brian Snitker decided to hold him out of Friday's lineup. Gordon Beckham will man the keystone for the Braves on Friday night.
Aug 14 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.Peterson will have a maintenance day as Gordon Beckham starts at second and bats sixth. The club has Monday off, so look for Peterson to return to his spot in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins.
Aug 13 2016Peterson went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, two RBI and two runs in Friday's 8-5 victory over the Nationals. He extended the Braves' lead to 2-0 in the second with a 398-foot solo shot in the second, and later came home on Anthony Recker's 423-foot blast in the sixth. It was Peterson's first round-tripper since back on July 22 versus the Rockies and only his fourth hit in 26 at-bats overall in August.
Aug 10 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.Typically Peterson gets the nod against righties, but after notching just one hit in his last 15 at-bats he will take a seat Wednesday against righty Chase Anderson. Gordon Beckham will get the start at second base and hit seventh.
Aug 5 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He will sit for the second time in three days as Gordon Beckham mans second and Ender Inciarte leads off against lefty Jaime Garcia. The 26-year-old Peterson has posted a respectable .753 OPS in 68 games, but the lack of power or speed hurts his fantasy appeal, and the hot-hitting Inciarte could steals more starts in the leadoff spot moving forward.
Aug 3 2016Peterson is not in the starting lineup for the Braves on Wednesday.Peterson will get the day off as Gordon Beckham leads off and plays second base for the Braves. The 26-year-old has played well in the leadoff spot for Atlanta over his last 10 games, hitting .286 with eight walks in 35 at-bats. Expect Peterson back in the lineup on Thursday as the Braves face Ryan Vogelsong and the Pirates.
Jul 18 2016Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.Peterson will rest after playing all three games against the Rockies following the All-Star break. The 26-year-old is having a career-best season, hitting .277/.360/.400 with four home runs and 15 RBI through 52 games.
Jul 17 2016Peterson went 1-for-3 with two walks in Sunday's win over the Rockies. That gives him seven walks in his last nine games, as Peterson seems to be adapting to the leadoff spot for the Braves nicely. Unfortunately, he's scored only two runs during that stretch (one of those on a solo homer) despite reaching base 14 times as the rest of the offense behind him continues to struggle.
Jul 15 2016Peterson is not in Friday's lineup against the Rockies. With lefty Jorge De La Rosa on the bump for the Rockies, Peterson will sit in favor of righty-hitting Gordon Beckham at the keystone. Peterson should continue to occupy the strong side of a second base platoon going forward in the second half.
Jul 8 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.Gordon Beckham will man second base while Chase d'Arnaud leads off against lefty Chris Sale, snapping a streak of six consecutive starts at the keystone and atop the order for Peterson. The 26-year-old Peterson was red hot throughout June but is off to a bit of a sluggish start to July (6-for-29). He's also 6-for-27 (all singles) against lefties this season, and the White Sox are starting another southpaw in Jose Quintana on Saturday.
Jul 3 2016Peterson now has a 13-game hitting streak after a 2-for-4 performance against Jose Fernandez and the Marlins in Saturday's 9-1 victory that consisted of a double, three-run homer and two runs.Peterson has started July off with an even hotter bat than he finished June with, as he's hit .429 (3-for-7) over the first two games of the new month. All three of his round-trippers on the season have come during the current hitting streak, and Saturday's performance marked his sixth multi-hit effort over that span as well. Discounting a one at-bat hitless outing against the Mets on June 18, Peterson has hit safely in every start since his June 10 return to the big league club from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Jul 1 2016Peterson is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Miami.Peterson, who's made 11 consecutive starts, will get the night off as Chase d'Arnaud makes a start at second base. Peterson currently has an 11-game hit streak going and is slashing .348/.375/.522 during that time.
Jun 26 2016Peterson will start at second base and serve as the Braves' leadoff hitter for the sixth straight game Sunday against the Mets. After getting demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett following a poor start to his season, Peterson returned to the big leagues earlier this month and has been able to reclaim his regular starting role. He's also helped his cause to remain atop the lineup by recording one hit in each of his last six games, but he's had a multi-hit effort in only one of those contests. Still, with Mallex Smith (hand) on the DL, Peterson should give the Braves an element of contact-hitting and speed in the leadoff spot, though don't look for him to produce many helpful counting stats.
Jun 23 2016Peterson is in the lineup against the Mets on Thursday.Peterson will be leading off and manning the keystone against Matt Harvey and the Mets. The 26-year-old is 21-for-82 on the year, with one home run and 10 RBI for the Braves.
Jun 21 2016Peterson homered and knocked in three runs in a 2-for-5 game Tuesday against the Marlins. After 31 games, Peterson is finally on the board with his first home run. His 11:18 BB:K is nice, but with just four extra-base hits all year, his power leaves a lot to be desired. Even after today's solid performance, he's hitting just .256/.348/.333.
Jun 15 2016Peterson is in the lineup and batting sixth for Wednesday's game against the Reds.Peterson will get the start in place of the usual Chase d'Arnaud at second base. The 26-year-old is hitting .267 against right-handed pitching this year and is 5-for-10 with five walks since being recalled from Triple-A on June 10.
Jun 14 2016Peterson was added to the Brave's lineup, playing second base and batting eighth against Cincinnati on Tuesday.Peterson was a late add, filling in for Erick Aybar who was scratched from the lineup for undisclosed reasons. Peterson has been reaching base with proficiency since his recall from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, finding his way onto the base paths in seven of his last 11 plate appearances.
Jun 13 2016Peterson is in the lineup and batting seventh for Monday's game against the Reds.Peterson is coming off a successful series against the Cubs in which he combined to go 3-for-5 with two walks and three runs scored in two starts. The 26-year-old will look to keep it going Monday while Chase d'Arnaud takes the day off.
Jun 12 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.Peterson had made back-to-back starts at second base, but will sit in favor of Chase d'Arnaud for the afternoon contest. The 26-year-old Peterson did manage to catch a break, however, as infielder Daniel Castro was instead chosen for a demotion Sunday when a roster spot was needed to accommodate the activation of Erick Aybar (foot). Even though he remains with the club, Peterson and his .572 OPS will likely be limited to sporadic starts near the bottom of the batting order.
Jun 10 2016Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Peterson's bat was too weak for even the rebuilding Braves earlier in the season; he was optioned in May after slashing .182/.260/.205 in his first 50 plate appearances. He really wasn't much better at Triple-A though, hitting .186/.258/.533 in a larger sample. He should figure into the team's depth at second base and outfield, but the bat isn't strong enough to make him a significant asset.
May 2 2016Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.Peterson was a pleasant surprise for the Braves during the second half of last season, but a rough .182 batting average to start the season was enough to send the 25-year-old back to the minors. There's a good chance that he could rejoin the major league club if he hits well in the minor leagues, though, as the Braves don't exactly have many set options in their lineup.
Apr 27 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.Peterson sat out Tuesday with left-hander David Price on the hill for Boston, but the 25-year-old will take a seat despite right-hander Steven Wright taking the ball for the Red Sox Wednesday. Jeff Francoeur will slot into left field in his stead.
Apr 26 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.Peterson will once again take a seat against a left-handed pitcher, as he has all season, as the Red Sox send out David Price on Tuesday. Jeff Francoeur will get the start in left field in his stead and bat fifth.
Apr 21 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network reports.Peterson has not been in the lineup against a left-handed starter all season, so it should come as little surprise that he is sitting out Thursday against Dodgers southpaw Clayton Kershaw.
Apr 19 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.Peterson went 2-for-4 with one double, one walk, one walk, and three RBI in what was his best game of the season thus far. The 25-year-old will take Tuesday off to rest while Daniel Castro makes a spot start in his place.
Apr 18 2016Peterson got the start in left field Sunday and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and three RBI in a 6-5 extra-inning win over the Marlins. The RBI were his first of the season, to go along with his first multi-hit game, and all three came on his bases-loaded double in the first inning. While seeing action in left field does put Peterson on pace for extra position versatility, he'll need to hit better than his current .222/.276/.259 slash line to find his way onto most fantasy rosters.
Apr 15 2016Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins.Peterson, like many other Braves, is off to a poor start this season, hitting a lowly .190/.227/.190. He will take the day off while Gordon Beckham gets the nod at second base.
Apr 14 2016Peterson is getting his first start of the year in left field and hitting eighth Thursday against the Nationals.Typically the Braves' second baseman, Peterson got some time in left field during spring training and did some early work there prior to Thursday's game. With Hector Olivera out indefinitely following a domestic dispute, Peterson could see a handful of starts in left field going forward, allowing him to pick up outfield eligibility in certain formats.
Apr 13 2016Peterson is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals, playing second base and batting eighth in the order. There were reports earlier Wednesday that the Braves were considering plugging the recently recalled Daniel Castro in at shortstop and sliding Erick Aybar to second base, but they won't enact that plan until Thursday at the earliest. As such, Peterson will reclaim his spot at second base Wednesday and he'll bat eighth against Tanner Roark. Still, the potential for Aybar to slide over to second will be something for Peterson owners to monitor as Aybar could threaten Peterson's already inconsistent role.
Apr 12 2016Peterson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Washington.Peterson will sit out Tuesday while the Braves face left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez. Peterson usually gets the second base job, but in some situations, sits out against lefties. In his place, Gordon Beckham will get the start at second base and bat eighth.
Apr 8 2016Peterson is out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals. The left-handed Peterson will be replaced by Gordon Beckham on Friday with the Braves squaring off against southpaw Jaime Garcia. Peterson has a hold on the Braves' every day second base job for the most part, but there will be instances where he sits against lefties. Expect Peterson to return to the lineup Saturday against right-hander Carlos Martinez.
Mar 28 2016Peterson will be the primary second baseman for Atlanta at the start of the season and will not be in a platoon, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Peterson got playing time around the infield this spring, but the Braves have decided to see if he can hold down the second base job. While Kelly Johnson and Gordon Beckham may get spot starts at second base, it looks like Peterson will be an everyday player initially.
Mar 20 2016Peterson went 2-for-4 with a strikeout and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Tigers. He doubled off the Yankees' Aroldis Chapman in a two-hit effort Saturday -- his first multi-hit game of the spring -- and then singled twice Sunday. Peterson had just five hits in his first 13 spring games (29 at-bats). The expected starter at second base coming into camp, Peterson has been jumping around the diamond lately, seeing time at second base, third, shortstop, center field, and right field just within the past week. It still seems likely that most of his time will come at the keystone, but his versatility in the field gives the Braves some options.
Feb 25 2016Peterson, the Braves' starter at second base to open 2016, reported to spring training early, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Last season, Peterson took over the starting job at the keystone, but struggled after suffering a partially torn thumb ligament in late May. Prior to suffering the injury, Peterson flashed an ability to get on base (.389 OBP through June 21), which could make him an option to help set the table near the top of the order for the Braves in 2016 along with offseason addition Ender Inciarte. Keep in mind, however, that Peterson isn't sure if the injury is completely healed, but he told reporters that his thumb doesn't hurt the same it did during the second half of last season.
Oct 2 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Friday against the Cardinals.Peterson will take a seat with lefty Jaime Garcia set to take the mound for the Cardinals. Daniel Castro will get the start at second base in his place and hit second in the lineup.
Sep 25 2015Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. There is no injury in play with Peterson. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he made out two lineups earlier in the day, and the wrong one was posted initially. Daniel Castro is now slated to man second base and bat second.
Sep 21 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Monday against the Mets.Peterson returned to the lineup in each of the past two games, reaching base five times in those contests, but he'll take a seat against the left-handed Jon Niese. Daniel Castro will get the start at the keystone in his stead and bat second.
Sep 18 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies. It will be the fourth day off in five games for Peterson, as the second baseman has struggled in the month of September to the tune of a .186/.255/.256 slash line in the month. Daniel Castro will get the start at the keystone Friday, batting second.
Sep 17 2015Peterson is back in the lineup on Thursday. After getting the night off yesterday, Peterson was reinserted into the lineup against the Blue Jays. He will bat seventh in the lineup and play second base.
Sep 16 2015Peterson is out of the lineup Wednesday. The Braves will go with a righty-heavy lineup with lefty David Price on the mound for the Blue Jays. Daniel Castro will get the start at second base and hit second Wednesday.
Sep 15 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Tuesday for a second straight game.Peterson is having a dreadful month of September, posting a .575 OPS, so manager Fredi Gonzalez has decided to give him a few days off in an effort to turn things around. Daniel Castro will get another start at second base Tuesday in Peterson's place.
Sep 13 2015Peterson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.Peterson also got a day off two days ago, so another day off is a little unusual for an infielder who has seen long strings of starts throughout 2015. There's probably not much to read into there, while Daniel Castro gets the start at second.
Sep 11 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets.Peterson will get a day off after drawing five consecutive starts. Daniel Castro will get the start at the keystone in his place, batting second.
Sep 5 2015Peterson is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Nationals.Peterson will receive a day off after hitting a 0-for-9 stretch including four strikeouts over the past two contests. The Braves will start Pedro Ciriaco in his place, batting second.
Sep 2 2015Peterson is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins.Peterson rarely receives days off, with his last coming July 24. He'll finally get what appears to be a scheduled day off Wednesday, with Daniel Castro starting at second base in his place.
Aug 20 2015Peterson went 2-for-4 with his 11th stolen base of the season in a 7-1 loss to the Cubs on Thursday.Peterson has been effective this season for the Braves, but his base stealing has been iffy at best. He has been caught 10 times this season and it's strange their still sending him with that .500 efficiency rate. The numbers are very average for Peterson and the majority of his value resides in NL-only formats at this juncture.
Aug 3 2015Peterson went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double in Sunday's game against the Phillies. The rookie went all of July without a homer, but his long ball Sunday ultimately won the game for his team. Peterson is batting just .245 on the season but is showing signs of life at the plate, with five hits in his last four games.
Jul 28 2015Peterson will bat seventh Tuesday against the Orioles, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old has seen his OBP fall more than 20 points since the start of July (from .346 to .323), and it appears his time atop the order may be up. Peterson hit sixth Monday and will fall another spot Tuesday, with Nick Markakis setting the table once again for Atlanta.
Jul 24 2015Peterson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.Peterson's July hasn't gone too well, as he's now at a .169/.239/.231 line for the month. If he continues to struggle, it's imaginable that even the light-hitting Braves may no longer see him as a leadoff hitter.
Jul 11 2015Peterson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.A 1-for-4 showing in Friday's game extended Peterson's hitting streak to six games, but he'll head to the bench Saturday as Pedro Ciriaco takes over at second base against Jorge De La Rosa. Even with the hit streak, Peterson is batting just .189 for the month of July. The 25-year-old is batting .233/.281/.283 against left-handed pitching this season.
Jul 10 2015Peterson went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.Peterson has recorded six hits and three walks over the last five games to boost his on-base percentage to a robust .335 for the season. With the Braves due to play three more games at hitter-friendly Coors Field before the All-Star break, look for Peterson to bring his batting line up even further.
Jul 6 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Monday against the Brewers, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.Peterson will get the day off, marking his first absence from the lineup in a calendar month. Pedro Ciriaco will serve as the starting second baseman and bat sixth against Brewers' starter Kyle Lohse.
Jun 28 2015Peterson went 2-for-5 Saturday with a double and three RBI.He's now slashing .267/.346/.367 on the season and while his eight steals in 16 attempts is far from ideal, as long as Peterson is getting on base at a solid clip he should be able to maintain his spot at second base and keep Jose Peraza down in the minors.
Jun 7 2015Peterson (thumb) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves' Radio Network reports.Peterson already missed the expected two games due to a bruise in his left thumb, and will be back in the leadoff spot for the afternoon contest. He had been settling in nicely to the leadoff role prior to this minor bump in the road, posting a .351 OBP with 12 runs scored in May.
Jun 5 2015Peterson is expected to miss two starts due to a bruised left thumb, Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.X-rays on the thumb were negative, but Peterson did receive an injection Thursday and the team will give him a couple days to let the treatment take effect. While Pedro Ciriaco got the start at second base Friday, Juan Uribe is expected to shift over to the keystone Saturday with Peterson only available in a pinch-run/defensive-replacement capacity.
Jun 5 2015Peterson has been suffering from some left hand discomfort over the past couple weeks, but X-rays returned negative. However, he's out of the lineup Friday because of the issue, but hopes to play Saturday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Peterson's hand issues reportedly extend back a couple weeks, but he hasn't really missed much time beyond Friday. He likely remains day-to-day, and shouldn't miss too much time unless the issue becomes more bothersome.
May 31 2015Peterson went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, a steal and three runs scored Saturday in San Francisco. He's held down a consistent role in the Atlanta lineup and seen 16 games in the leadoff spot despite hitting just .234 when atop the order. The 25-year-old can provide a little speed for NL-only owners while he continues to hold down second base for the Braves, but there's not much else here.
May 23 2015Peterson went 2-for-6 and picked up the game-winning RBI in Saturday's 11-inning win over the Brewers. While he was also caught stealing for the third time, against four successful attempts, Peterson is hitting a fairly empty .264 on the season. Should the Braves elect to turn second base over to top prospect Jose Peraza at some point this summer, Peterson doesn't appear as though he'll be much of an obstacle.
May 13 2015Peterson will start at second base and bat sixth Wednesday against the Reds, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Peterson has been on a tear of late, collecting multiple hits in five of his last seven games to raise his average to .293 and his OBP to .362. He has just two extra-base hits in 92 at-bats, and he's a modest 3-for-5 on the basepaths, but Peterson appears in line to continue playing against all opposing right-handed starters.
May 8 2015Peterson is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals. It's been a while since the Braves faced a left-handed pitcher, but this is a nice reminder that Peterson probably won't get many at-bats against southpaws. Phil Gosselin will start at second base Friday, with Gio Gonzalez on the mound for Washington.
Apr 24 2015Peterson is out of the lineup Friday against the Phillies.Following another hitless outing Thursday, his third straight start without a base knock, Peterson will head to the bench in favor of Alberto Callaspo at second base. Peterson is batting .179 (7-for-39) with one extra-base hit and 13 strikeouts so far this season, making his hot spring seem like a distant memory.
Apr 21 2015Peterson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Mets, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Peterson will sit for the second time in three games, this time giving way to Phil Gosselin at second base. While Peterson primarily hit second in the very early going and even led off once, he's gone 7-for-33 to start the season and will likely occupy a bottom-third spot when he's in there for now.
Apr 14 2015Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Peterson will return to the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. After starting five of the first six contests, Peterson is out of the lineup for a second straight game Tuesday night, giving way to Alberto Callaspo at second base. It isn't all that surprising to see Peterson lose a sizable chunk of the playing time, and he's done himself no favors with a slow start at the plate.
Apr 13 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Monday against the Marlins.Peterson had started five of six games coming into Monday, but will receive his second day off, this time in favor of Alberto Callaspo at second base. While he seems to be the everyday second baseman at this point, he'll likely receive more days off than most.
Apr 10 2015Peterson is now in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves' official Twitter accounted listed Phil Gosselin as the team's starter, but apparently manager Fredi Gonzalez had a change of heart and will go with Peterson instead at second base. Peterson will once again slot into the two-hole, this time between Cameron Maybin and Nick Markakis.
Apr 10 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets. With a lefty in Jonathan Niese due up for New York, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez will sit Peterson down and slot Phil Gosselin in for his first start of the year. Peterson is 2-for-10 without an extra-base hit this year, but he has drawn two walks and scored twice, and there hasn't been any indication there will be a strict platoon at second base.
Apr 10 2015Peterson is not in the lineup Friday, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. In the span of about 10 minutes Friday afternoon, Peterson went from out of the lineup to starting to being back out of the lineup. The news came across several hours before first pitch, so hopefully the contradicting media reports did not lead to any owners getting stuck with Peterson in daily leagues. Phil Gosselin will get the start at second base Friday.
Apr 8 2015Peterson will lead off Wednesday against the Marlins, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Cameron Maybin is starting in center field in place of Eric Young Jr., but it will be Peterson who takes Young's spot atop the order with Maybin batting eighth. Peterson has gone 1-for-6 with two walks, two runs scored and one strikeouts out of the two-hole so far this season. It's uncertain where he'll hit against lefties.
Apr 6 2015Peterson will start at second base and bat second against the Marlins on Monday.Manager Fredi Gonzalez will look to the speedy duo of Eric Young Jr. and Peterson to set the table for Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman on Opening Day. Peterson struck out 16 times in 68 Grapefruit League at-bats but posted a .324 average and drew 10 walks. His stock will rise if he's able to maintain this spot against right-handers, though Peterson does figure to fall in the order against lefties.
Mar 17 2015Peterson went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base, and also turned a pair of double plays in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Red Sox, drawing the praise of manager Fredi Gonzalez. "I'm going to try to play {Peterson and shortstop Andrelton Simmons] as much as I can, and we will," Gonzalez told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They'll get plenty of reps between the games and practice and fungoes. They'll be fine."Peterson, acquired in the Justin Upton deal, has impressed in his 10 Grapefruit League games to this point, going 9-for-26 with two doubles and five walks while also showing chemistry with Simmons in limited action together. Meanwhile, veteran Alberto Callaspo arrived to camp out of condition and has gone just 3-for-26 in spring action, seemingly opening the door for Peterson to slot in as the primary option at second base to start the year. Top prospect Jose Peraza was sent to minor league camp after going 1-for-16 against major league competition.
Feb 21 2015Peterson could compete for part-time duties at second base during spring training, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves have a lot to sort out this spring. It's possible they could use Alberto Callaspo as their primary option at the keystone, but they may also give him some starts at third against right-handed pitching. That would open up time at the keystone, affording Peterson, Phil Gosselin and even Eric Young Jr. a chance at a part-time role at the position. While Peterson did not fare well in his first exposure to major league pitching (6-for-53 with no XBH), he posted a .307/.402/.447 batting line with 16 steals in 86 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
Dec 19 2014Peterson was one of four prospects traded to the Braves on Friday in the deal sending Justin Upton to the Padres, ESPN's Jim Bowden reports.Peterson saw his first call-up to the big leagues last June as a fill-in for the injured Jedd Gyorko, but faltered miserably. He slashed an anemic .113/.161/.133 across 58 plate appearances, showcasing little of the blend of contact, on-base, and stolen-base skills that he had allowed his star to rise in the minors. He'll turn 25 in May, so time may be running out for Peterson to prove he can cut it in the majors. It's likely that he will open the upcoming season at Triple-A Gwinnett, but if Alberto Callaspo or top infield prospect Jose Peraza falter as the starter at second base for the Braves, Peterson could get a look. In addition to Peterson, lefty starter Max Fried, third baseman Dustin Peterson and outfielder Mallex Smith will also be included in the prospect haul for Atlanta.
Aug 20 2014Peterson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.Recalled last week merely for depth purposes, Peterson went 1-for-3 with a run scored in two games during his most recent stint with the big club. He'll head back down to make room for Cameron Maybin (suspension), but Peterson will almost certainly be among the team's September callups.
Aug 14 2014Peterson was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.Afflictions to Everth Cabrera (hamstring), Yonder Alonso (wrist) and now Yangervis Solarte (oblique) have left the Padres thin in the infield, and Peterson will be up to bolster the team's depth. The 24-year-old notched just five singles in 50 at-bats with the big club earlier this season, and his opportunities will likely remain barring additional injuries.
Jul 25 2014Peterson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. To clear a spot on the active roster Jesse Hahn, Friday's starter against the Braves, the Padres sent Peterson packing. Peterson recorded just five hits (all singles) and struck out 18 times in 55 plate appearances with the big club, but he's hit .285/.400/.496 with El Paso and is still just 24 years old, so the Padres surely aren't ready to completely dump him.
Jul 12 2014Peterson was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, mlb.com's Corey Brock reports. The Padres sent down starting pitcher Jesse Hahn, who will be brought back up a few days after the All-Star break. Peterson may have a shot to stick around after Hahn returns, but it's also possible that the infielder's stay in the majors will be a short one. Brooks Conrad has been getting most of the playing time at second base for the Padres, but neither he nor Irving Falu has done much of anything at the plate.
Jun 28 2014Peterson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, MLB.com reports. The Padres needed to make room for infielder Irving Falu. Peterson had five hits in 50 at-bats in 23 games this season for the Padres.
Jun 25 2014Peterson is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.Peterson was out of the lineup Tuesday as well, going hitless in a pinch-hit opportunity later in the game to sink his average to .100. With the 24-year-old failing to adapt to the majors, a trip back to the Triple-A could be in the cards.
Jun 24 2014Peterson is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants. He'll get the day off after starting four straight games, with Alexi Amarista getting the nod at second base. Chase Headley is back after missing those same four games with a back injury, and with Peterson failing to produce, his fantasy stock is trending down.
Jun 23 2014Peterson has started three consecutive games at second base due to Jedd Gyorko's (foot) continued stay on the DL and Chase Headley's herniated disc in his back.Peterson has yet to produce much at the major league level this season, slashing a miserable .111/.149/.111 with two runs and two stolen bases in 45 at-bats. Until Headley's fate is known -- either a return to the big club or a DL stint -- Peterson will continue to cover the keystone most days, while Alexi Amarista mans third base.
Jun 12 2014Quentin is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.Peterson has started five of the last six games at second base, but he has yet to record a hit this month, so manager Bud Black decided to give him the day off. Alexi Amarista will start at second base for the Padres on Thursday.
Jun 5 2014Peterson will split duty at second base with Alexi Amarista as a result of Jedd Gyorko's bout with plantar fasciitis, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Considering Amarista's miserable .198/.268/.277 slash line on the season, Peterson could very well earn the friendly side of the platoon, even though he was recalled Wednesday. During that tilt, Peterson struck out, was walked intentionally, and put down a sacrifice bunt, taking 11 pitches in all. Meanwhile, he's also expected to garner reps at shortstop and third base in an attempt to boost a meek-hitting infield, which, combined with Gyorko's likely lengthy stint on the DL, could provide ample opportunity, if his live bat from Triple-A El Paso (.330/.441/.560 line in 91 at-bats) translates to the majors.
Jun 4 2014Peterson was recalled by the Padres on Wednesday.Upon his arrival, Peterson will aim to jumpstart an infield whose four regulars have failed to put up more than a .620 OPS on the season. In 91 at-bats at Triple-A El Paso, he slashed .330/.441/.560 with two homers, 19 RBI, 20 runs, and three steals (in six attempts). He'll start at second base in Wednesday's game and bat eighth in the order, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
May 7 2014Peterson was sent down to Triple-A El Paso before Wednesday's game against the Royals.Peterson would have been ticketed for Triple-A this weekend anyhow upon the return of Chase Headley, but the two extra-inning games Monday and Tuesday and the subsequent toll on the bullpen expedited the need for the move now, to add another reliever.
May 5 2014Peterson is not in the lineup Monday against the Royals. After starting each of the previous six games at third base, Peterson will give way to Alexi Amarista on Monday. With Chase Headley (calf) seemingly headed for a May 10 return, Peterson will likely head back to the minors soon. The 23-year-old has already seen more playing time than expected, but he's just 4-for-22 at the plate with nary an extra-base hit.
Apr 29 2014Peterson tallied two singles and a strikeout in four at-bats during Monday's victory in San Francisco. With Jedd Gyorko on paternity leave and Chase Headley (calf) on the DL until at least May 10, Peterson figures to man the hot corner most days until Gyorko returns to the fold later this week. Even then, Peterson will only have to contend with Alexi Amarista for playing time at third base. In any case, during his first foray with the big club, Peterson has recorded three hits, three strikeouts, and one stolen base in 10 at-bats, which is in line with the .311/.386/.392 line that he posted at Double-A San Antonio prior to his call-up late last week.
Apr 26 2014Peterson will make his first career start Saturday against the Nationals, Padres broadcaster Bob Scanlan reports. The 23-year-old came off the bench in his major league debut Friday, going 1-for-2 with a single off of Stephen Strasburg. Peterson will be rewarded with his first start Saturday, as Alexi Amarista moves out to center field.
Apr 25 2014Peterson was called up by the Padres on Friday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.Despite having just 74 at-bats above the High-A level under his belt, Peterson got the call Friday to help out around the infield while Chase Headley (calf) is on the DL. Peterson was a first-round pick in 2011, and has hit .311/.386/.392 in 18 games with Double-A San Antonio this season. He'll likely be used sparingly while up, and may very well head right back down once Headley is ready to return.
Jan 27 2014Peterson (foot) is a non-roster invitee to Padres spring training, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.A former second-round pick in the 2011 first-year player draft, Peterson again displayed his prowess on the basepaths, swiping 42 bases in 52 attempts last year at High-A Lake Elsinore. Additionally, his batting line has jumped in each of his three minor league campaigns, ringing in at .303/.382/.454 in 423 at-bats in 2013. The arch concern that brought his season to a close in late August should be behind him, and he'll now compete for a reserve middle infield gig during the spring.
Jul 19 2013Peterson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base against High-A High Desert on Thursday and has now hit safely and stolen a base in each of his last five games.Peterson continues to impress here in his first full season in the California League. He has six home runs with 13 doubles and nine triples over 341 at-bats but has been most impressive with 40 walks to just 44 strikeouts and an 85-percent success rate on the bases (34 stolen bases). The Padres will steadily advance the young shortstop through the system, but with strong middle infield depth at the higher levels, there will be no reason to rush him.
