May 10 2024Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was released by the Rangers last Wednesday after posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.80 WHIP through 10 innings at Triple-A Round Rock, but he was unable to secure a deal that offered a clearer path to the majors. The 33-year-old southpaw will remain at Round Rock as he returns to the Rangers organization, and he may be selected to the active roster later in the season if he continues thriving in the minors.
Mar 22 2024The Rangers informed Shreve on Friday that he will not make Texas' roster out of spring camp, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve will likely exercise the opt-out clause in his contract and look to latch on with another organization in free agency. The 33-year-old southpaw turned in a 4.63 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 44.2 innings between the Reds and Tigers last season.
Sep 2 2023The Reds selected Shreve from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Graham Ashcraft (toe) headed for the injured list, Shreve will come up from the minors to add depth to a depleted Cincinnati pitching staff. The 33-year-old southpaw put up a 4.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 41.1 innings with Detroit before signing a minor-league deal with the Reds on Aug. 18.
Aug 18 2023Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was cut loose by the Tigers last week after posting a 4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 41.1 innings. He'll report to Triple-A Louisville for now but could get a shot for the Reds down the stretch.
Aug 11 2023Shreve was released by the Tigers on Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by Detroit and will now head into free agency. The 33-year-old lefty reliever should be able to find a new opportunity elsewhere before the 2023 season comes to an end.
Apr 27 2023Shreve (1-2) allowed five runs while retiring only two batters to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles. He gave up four hits and a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve came out for the top of the seventh inning and promptly allowed a single and a double to start the frame. Things didn't get much better from there, and the lefty saw his ERA climb from 3.00 to 7.45 in the process. Shreve wasn't much better for the Mets last year, posting a 6.49 ERA across 25 games, so expectations should be kept fairly low moving forward.
Mar 30 2023Shreve had his contract selected by the Tigers on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was informed Wednesday that he earned a spot on Detroit's Opening Day roster, and now he's officially been added to the big club. The 32-year-old struggled to a 6.49 ERA in in 25 outings for the Mets last season, but he pitched well during spring training with two earned runs allowed and a 10:3 K:BB across eight frames.
Mar 29 2023Shreve was informed Wednesday that he'll be included on Detroit's Opening Day roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers still have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for him, but Shreve earns a spot with the big club after forging a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over eight innings in eight appearances in the Grapefruit League. The southpaw will likely start the campaign in a middle-innings role, but given Detroit's lack of established options in the bullpen, he could quickly move into higher-leverage opportunities.
Mar 7 2023Shreve has posted a 2.70 ERA and and five strikeouts across 3.1 Grapefruit League innings so far. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's a small sample, but Shreve is making a good first impression as he competes for a bullpen spot with the Tigers. The lefty agreed to a minor-league contract with Detroit in January following a disappointing season with the Mets in which he recorded a 6.49 ERA over 26.1 innings. However, he looked much better for Pittsburgh in 2021, posting a 3.20 ERA across 56.1 innings of relief. If Shreve can get back to that level, he should be able to stick in the majors this year.
Jan 9 2023Shreve signed a minor-league contract with Detroit on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Following a solid season in 2021 with Pittsburgh, Shreve wasn't able to get going in 2022 with the Mets, recording a 6.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 26.1 frames out of the 'pen. He was able to draw a minor-league deal from the Yankees and throw 5.2 quality innings in Triple-A Scranton. If the 32-year old lefty can pick up where he left off in the minors, there is a good chance he'll make it into the Tigers' bullpen.
Aug 28 2022Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was let go by the Mets in early July and will now receive a chance in the minors with the Yankees. The left-hander has a 6.49 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB across 26.1 innings this season.
Jul 9 2022Shreve was granted his unconditional release by the Mets on Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was designated for assignment Tuesday and cleared waivers. He had a 6.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 26.1 innings with the Mets this season and will now look for a new opportunity around the league.
Jul 5 2022The Mets designated Shreve for assignment Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: New York needed a roster spot for Max Scherzer and Shreve, having posted a 10.43 ERA in his last 15 appearances, was an obvious choice for demotion. Shreve's poor numbers suggest he'll clear waivers and continue his season with Triple-A Syracuse.
May 16 2022Shreve (1-1) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one in one inning of relief. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He entered the game to get the final two outs in the fifth inning with the Mets protecting a 5-4 lead, but Julio Rodriguez led off the sixth with a solo shot, and Shreve allowed another single that also came around to score. The southpaw has served up homers in two straight appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.38 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 13.1 innings with two holds.
Apr 17 2022Shreve (1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching two perfect innings and striking out two in a 5-0 win Sunday over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve entered the game in the sixth inning with the score 0-0 after a leadoff double knocked Trevor Williams out of the game. Shreve retired all six batters he faced and became the pitcher of record when the Mets' offense exploded for five runs. The journeyman reliever has now pitched four perfect innings in a row, striking out six in that span.
Apr 6 2022The Mets selected Shreve's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: New York opened a spot on the 40-man roster for Shreve by designating pitcher Jordan Yamamoto for assignment. Shreve earned his spot in the Mets' Opening Day bullpen after tossing four no-hit innings and striking out six during the Grapefruit League season.
Apr 4 2022Shreve told Tim Healey of Newsday on Monday that the Mets have informed him that he's made their Opening Day roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Mets will likely make the move official within the next couple of days when Shreve's contract is purchased from the minors. Shreve, who was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, earned his way on the roster after striking out six and permitting just one walk in four no-hit innings during Grapefruit League play. The 31-year-old lefty is back for his second stint with the Mets, after he split the 2018 campaign between New York and St. Louis. He was most recently part of the Pirates organization in 2021, logging 57 appearances for the big club and compiling a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 56.1 innings.
Mar 16 2022Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Wednesday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve made 57 relief appearances for the Pirates in 2021 and logged 11 holds while posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 56.1 innings. He'll rejoin the Mets after making 17 appearances for the club during the 2020 campaign, and he'll make $1.5 million if he earns a major-league roster spot at some point.
Nov 6 2021Shreve declined an outright assignment to the minors Saturday and elected free agency. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve finished with a 3.20 ERA in 56.1 innings of relief this season, but his peripherals don't support that number very well, as he struck out a career-low 19.1 percent of opposing batters while walking 11.9 percent. Still, as a competent enough lefty reliever, he should be able to find work on the open market.
Sep 29 2021Shreve (3-3) gave up two runs on a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss and a blown save versus the Cubs on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The southpaw allowed Trayce Thompson and Frank Schwindel to reach base in the seventh inning, and Nick Mears allowed both inherited runners to score on a Willson Contreras double. It's the second time in four appearances Shreve has taken a blown save and a loss. He has a solid 3.25 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 44:28 K:BB through 55.1 innings while adding 11 holds this year while mainly working in the middle innings.
Sep 24 2021Shreve (3-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in one inning, taking the loss Friday versus Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The southpaw didn't have his best Friday, and he paid for it by allowing a three-run home run to Didi Gregorius in the seventh inning. Shreve has been effective for much of this season with a 3.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 41:27 K:BB -- the elevated walk rate is the only real concern. He's added eight holds in 53 appearances, but he's rarely seen a truly high-leverage role.
May 11 2021Shreve was selected by the Pirates Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty takes the active roster spot of Kyle Crick (triceps). Shreve was effective for the Mets in 2020, posting a 3.96 ERA in 17 relief appearances.
Mar 29 2021Shreve was sent to minor-league camp Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shreve was in camp as a non-roster invitee, attempting to win a bullpen spot. He had a good spring, posting a 3.86 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 9.1 innings, but that evidently wasn't enough to earn him a job.
Feb 7 2021Shreve agreed Sunday with the Pirates on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he won't immediately get added to the 40-man roster, Shreve becomes one of more intriguing arms in the Pittsburgh bullpen. While with the Mets last season, Shreve relied heavily on a fastball-splitter combo and was able to generate a 17.1 percent swinging-strike rate, the fourth-best mark among all qualifying left-handed relievers. He should be a strong bet to earn a spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster, and he could immediately seize a key late-inning role.
Dec 2 2020Shreve was non-tendered by the Mets on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-hander was entering his final year of arbitration but will now hit free agency. Shreve was a solid bullpen piece in 2020 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB over 25 innings (17 appearances).
Sep 23 2020Shreve struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth inning and was credited with a hold Tuesday in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the hold was Shreve's first of the season, the lefty reliever has quietly had some sneaky value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues this season. In addition to posting a superb 3.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 24 innings, Shreve also has turned in five appearances with at least three strikeouts. He's positioned himself to fill a key late-inning role for the Mets for the remainder of the season and into the 2021 campaign.
Aug 18 2020Shreve (1-0) picked up the win Monday, tossing 2.1 perfect innings of relief in an 11-4 victory over the Marlins. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Entering the game behind starter/opener Robert Gsellman in the second inning with runners on first and second and two outs, Shreve struck out Matt Joyce to end the Miami rally and then breezed through the next two frames. The southpaw has been outstanding in long relief to begin the season, posting a 3.09 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB through 11.2 innings over six appearances, and if the Mets find themselves using a Tampa-style opener more often to patch the holes in their rotation, Shreve could see his fantasy value spike.

Jul 11 2019Shreve was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com<\/a> reports.Subscribe now<\/a> to instantly reveal our take on this news.
Jul 21 2018Shreve picked up his second career save with a scoreless inning Saturday against the Mets.Shreve was called on to bail out Aroldis Chapman, who nearly blew a four-run lead after allowing the first five batters to reach base. Shreve got Devin Mesoraco to ground into a double play and got Wilmer Flores out on a comebacker. Despite the clutch performance, it would be a surprise to see Shreve given many more similar opportunities, as secondary closing options David Robertson and Dellin Betances would likely have gotten the nod had they not already pitched in the game.
Apr 9 2018Shreve retired the side on six pitches in his lone inning of relief in Sunday's 8-7 loss to the Orioles in 12 innings. With five strikeouts over four scoreless frames this season, Shreve has been a more than capable middle-relief option for the Yankees, but he's not expected to be a regular part of the bridge to closer Aroldis Chapman so long as Dellin Betances, David Robertson and Chad Green are all reasonably healthy and effective. While making bats miss has never been an issue for Shreve, he'll need to rein in the long balls before becoming a more reliable roster member in AL-only settings. He owns a 1.53 HR/9 over parts of five seasons in the big leagues.
Jan 13 2018Shreve agreed to a one-year deal with the Yankees on Saturday, avoiding arbitration. This was the first year he was an arbitration-eligible player. In 2017, Shreve posted a 3.77 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with a 58:25 K:BB in 45.1 innings of relief. Heading into this upcoming campaign, he should remain in a middle-inning role as the top left-hander in the Yankees' bullpen outside of Aroldis Chapman.
Sep 21 2017Shreve (4-1) was credited with the win after throwing three shutout innings with three strikeouts to just one walk in Wednesday's win over the Twins.Though he's not typically deployed in a long man role, manager Joe Girardi had to get creative after getting just three innings out of starter Luis Severino. Shreve was extremely efficient, needing just 33 pitches for the three frames to grab his first win since July. The southpaw will likely continue to be called upon to get lefties out, but he also proved to be capable of being able to provide length Wednesday.
Aug 31 2017Shreve recorded a strikeout over 1.1 innings but allowed two runs on four hits in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.Shreve allowed a home run to the first batter he faced and he's now allowed at least one run in six of his last eight appearances for a 5.73 ERA in August. The lefty typically hasn't been deployed in many high-leverage situations anyway, but if he continues to struggle it's possible he falls even further down the bullpen pecking order.
Jul 30 2017Shreve was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. After the Yankees acquired Jaime Garcia from the Twins earlier Sunday to bolster their rotation, the team no longer had a need for No. 5 starter Caleb Smith, who was optioned back to Triple-A to make room for an extra arm in the bullpen in Shreve. Though he's excelled in his previous 29 appearances with the Yankees, turning in a 2.77 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 26 innings, Shreve probably won't see much usage in high-leverage situations in his latest stint in the big leagues due to the unparalleled relief depth New York already has on hand.
May 2 2017Shreve was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. The Yankees wanted a fresh arm to replace Luis Cessa, who threw 3.1 innings in relief Monday, in the bullpen. Shreve has an impressive 1.42 ERA, 0.47 WHIP and 12:0 K:BB in 6.1 innings of relief at Triple-A, but is unlikely to see many high-leverage looks in the big leagues.
Apr 10 2017Shreve was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. This move is likely to make room on the roster for Jordan Montgomery, who was recently named the Yankees' fifth starter. Shreve pitched in two games before being optioned down, allowing no runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one. Even if he does find his way back to the majors this season, he likely won't work in too many high-leverage situations with southpaws Aroldis Chapman and Tommy Layne being used ahead of him.
Mar 30 2017Shreve will open the season in the major-league bullpen, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. With lefties Aroldis Chapman and Tommy Layne already assured bullpen spots, there was a chance Shreve would be sent down to Triple-A to open the season, but he kept his spot in the big leagues with a solid spring that included nine strikeouts in 10 innings. With two other southpaws higher up in the pecking order, Shreve likely won't see too many high-leverage situations and could be reduced essentially to a lefty specialist role.
Mar 9 2017Shreve yielded three runs in 1.1 innings of work in Thursday's spring training game. The lefty only gave up one hit, but it was a long ball --- his second allowed in as many appearances. Shreve is coming off his worst campaign since breaking into the majors, as he saw his ERA spike to 5.18 (5.81 FIP) and was sent back to Triple-A late in the season, so he'll have to show more in the later stages of the spring to win a spot in the Opening Day bullpen.
Aug 30 2016Shreve was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.Shreve has put up stellar numbers at the Triple-A level this season, as he owns a 1.62 ERA and 0.66 WHIP after throwing 16.2 innings. Unfortunately, he's been a liability on the mound for the Yankees. After 27 MLB innings, Shreve has a 5.33 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. In a corresponding move, Kirby Yates was optioned to Rookie-level Pulaski.
Aug 6 2016Shreve was promoted from Triple-A on Saturday.Shreve was recently optioned about a week ago, and has bounced back and forth between the Yankees and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre throughout this season. Before this past time being sent down, Shreve had compiled four scoreless innings during five appearances but was optioned to make room for Adam Warren. Shreve will get another look with the Yankees and could stay with the team for the rest of the season if he keeps up his recent play.
Jul 5 2016Shreve was recalled by the Yankees on Tuesday. The 25-year-old will add another left-handed option out of the bullpen for the Yankees. He's had mixed results at the big league level this season with a 5.21 ERA over 19.0 innings of work. The Yankees optioned Luis Cessa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move Tuesday.
Jun 19 2016Shreve (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day DL Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Shreve hit no setbacks with his shoulder during his rehab assignment, but he'll stick at Triple-A with the Yankees having no openings in their bullpen for the left-hander. Prior to landing on the DL, Shreve had supplied a 5.21 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 19 innings.
Jun 15 2016Shreve (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch Friday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the New York Post reports.Shreve made his first rehab appearance Sunday, working a perfect inning while striking out one. The club has yet to provide a timetable for the lefty, who landed on the disabled list toward the end of May with a joint sprain in his shoulder, and it's unclear if he'll require any more rehab appearances, but a decision will likely be made after seeing how Shreve feels following Friday's outing.
Jun 12 2016Shreve (shoulder) will join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday to start a rehab assignment, the New York Post reports.Shreve has now been sidelined for just over two weeks since being diagnosed with a left AC joint sprain in his shoulder, but the lefty has been able to throw somewhat regularly since being out and is now nearing a return. It's unclear how long a rehab stint he'll need, but Shreve figures to be ready to rejoin the big league bullpen within the week.
Jun 2 2016Shreve (shoulder) threw Thursday for the first time since landing on the disabled list, LoHud.com reports.Per the report, the lefty made 25 throws from 60 feet and is slated to step up to 90 feet Friday. Shreve's exact timetable remains uncertain, but his struggles this season (5.21 ERA, seven home runs allowed) will likely decrease the number of high-leverage situations he sees once healthy.
May 26 2016Shreve was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Sportsradio 66 WFAN's Sweeny Murti reports. The southpaw had a 5.21 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19 innings prior to the demotion. Richard Bleier was recalled as a corresponding move, and he will take Shreve's spot in the bullpen.
May 26 2016Shreve has been diagnosed with a left AC joint sprain in his shoulder, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.Shreve was given a cortisone shot in the shoulder and won't be able to pick up a baseball for approximately seven days. More information should be available once he starts his rehab.
May 26 2016Contrary to a previous report, Shreve was placed on the 15-day DL with a shoulder problem Thursday, the Wall Street Journal's Jared Diamond reports.Richard Bleier was recalled, taking Shreve's spot in the Yankees' bullpen, but it was due to an injury, not a demotion. Shreve was pitching poorly prior to the injury, so he should not be on the fantasy landscape regardless.
May 10 2016Shreve yielded a solo homer in one inning of work in Monday's win over the Royals.Shreve has now given up a home run in consecutive outings and five on the year in just 12 innings. Though the lefty hasn't been his sharpest -- currently holding a 5.25 ERA -- he has typically been one of the more trusted options for manager Joe Girardi, though he could slide down a bit in the pecking order with the return of Aroldis Chapman from suspension.
Apr 7 2016Shreve picked up the win Thursday against the Astros after pitching a scoreless inning.Shreve needed just eight pitches -- six of them strikes -- to send Houston down in order. The lefty has been working in high-leverage situations in the early goings, though he likely won't be good for much other than holds for fantasy owners.
Apr 1 2016Shreve has struck out eight without allowing a hit or a walk through nine innings of work in Grapefruit League action.Shreve has been phenomenal in the spring, which is an even more encouraging sign considering his end of the season decline last year. With fellow relievers Aroldis Chapman (suspension) and Bryan Mitchell (toe) both on the shelf for at least the first month, the southpaw could see some higher leverage opportunities in the early goings.
Feb 29 2016Shreve left his pitching session early Monday after being hit in the back with a line drive, Bryan Hoch of MLB reports.Despite the fact that the southpaw was pulled immediately, manager Joe Girardi said the injury is nothing serious. If this is the case, he shouldn't be sidelined for too much of spring training and should return to being one of the Yankees' top left-handers out of the bullpen.
Sep 8 2015Shreve (6-2) gave up three hits and one earned run in one inning in a 2-1 loss to the Orioles on Monday. He also struck out a batter.Shreve gave up a solo shot to the scorching bat of Chris Davis to open the ninth, and the mistake proved to be the difference in the ballgame. The gopher ball was both the first homer and earned run given up by the reliever in nine starts dating back to Aug. 17. Shreve has generally been solid for the Yankees over the course of the season, tonight's hiccup notwithstanding. He is expected to continue in his set-up role the remainder of the season.
Aug 31 2015Shreve notched his 10th hold of the season after recording the final out of the sixth inning in Sunday's win over the Braves. After Nathan Eovaldi and Adam Warren gave up three runs earlier in the inning to cut the Yankees' lead in half, Shreve was called upon to enter the contest with two outs and two runners on. After walking Freddie Freeman to load the bases, Shreve induced a groundout from A.J. Pierzynski to end the threat, lowering his ERA to 1.95 in the process. The lefty reliever is stuck in a setup role with the Yankees boasting two of the league's top late-inning options in Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances, but he should continue to deliver strong radios while aiding those in fantasy formats that count holds.
Jul 30 2015Shreve allowed an unearned run and struck out one in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers.Shreve has been fantastic for the Yankees this season, pitching to a 1.77 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 40.2 innings of work. The lefty's contributions don't translate as well for fantasy owners though, as primarily a seventh inning option unlikely to factor into the decision most nights.
Jun 28 2015Shreve won his fifth game of the season Saturday, walking one and striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. He's become one of the first half's top vultures, and his 1.72 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 34:10 K:BB ratio in 31.1 innings aren't too bad either. You can't rely on the wins to keep rolling in, but Shreve is establishing his value as a high-K reliever even without them.
Jun 14 2015Shreve earned the win Friday, going 1.1 shutout innings with a strikeout against the Orioles.Shreve has been excellent of late, not allowing a run over his last 9.2 innings pitched to drop his ERA down to 2.05 on the season. With Andrew Miller on the shelf and Dellin Betances slotting into the ninth inning role, the lefty could be in line to see some opportunities in higher leverage situations.
May 29 2015Shreve didn't allow a baserunner in 1.1 innings of work in Thursday's loss to the Athletics. With Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances unavailable Thursday, Shreve was inserted at the end of a close game, but he generally won't see too many high-leverage situations. He has been reliable out of the bullpen when called upon though, working to a 2.79 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
Apr 27 2015Shreve picked up his first major league win, needing only to record two outs in relief Sunday against the Mets.Shreve has gotten off to a strong start out of the Yankees bullpen, allowing just one run over 7.2 innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk. He likely won't be on the radar in most fantasy formats though, as the lefty serves in an earlier-inning relief role and won't usually factor into the decision.
Apr 21 2015Shreve was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.Shreve will join the New York bullpen in place of Branden Pinder, who has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Given that he's occupying the final spot in the big-league bullpen, Shreve figures to see most of his work in medium and low-leverage situations.
Apr 11 2015Shreve has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room for Matt Tracy.Shreve's reward for throwing 3.1 innings in the Yankees-Red Sox marathon Friday is being sent down for a fresh arm. His return could come whenever the Yankees are in need of a fresh left-hander again.
Apr 2 2015Shreve will likely be on the Opening Day roster, The Westchester Journal News reports. With the announcement earlier in the week that Adam Warren had locked down the fifth starter's role, Shreve was seemingly in competition with Chase Whitley and Chris Martin for the final two spots in the bullpen. Whitley was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday, so while no official announcement has been made yet regarding the lefty, it appears as though Shreve will slot in as a middle-relief option in the Yankees' bullpen.
Jan 1 2015Shreve was traded to the Yankees on Thursday along with David Carpenter for Manny Banuelos, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.Shreve's major league career got off to a brilliant start, with a 0.73 ERA (1.43 FIP) and 1.05 WHIP in 15 appearances out of the Braves' bullpen last season. The lefty also posted outstanding strikeout rates in the minors in 2014, but he had a reverse platoon split at both Double-A and the majors, and just a 43:30 K:BB in the minors in 2013. Perhaps he's not an ideal fit for a specialist role, but the 24-year-old Shreve should be able to carve out a spot toward the front end of the Yankees' bullpen in spring training.
Sep 1 2014Schreve was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday and was immediately called upon out of the bullpen by the Braves in their 7-0 loss to the Phillies. He tossed a scoreless inning in the outing, striking out two batters.Schreve will provide the Braves with another lefty option out of the bullpen in September, and he already paid dividends Monday, striking out slugger Ryan Howard when the outcome was still in question. He was an absolute strikeout machine in the minors this season, whiffing 87 batters over 64 innings between Double-A Mississippi and Gwinnett. It may not be long before he becomes one of the top setup options for Craig Kimbrel.
