Aug 22 2024Duvall went 3-for-3 with a solo homer in Thursday's win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall reached on infield singles in each of his first two at-bats before crushing a 421-foot leadoff homer in the sixth to extend Atlanta's lead to two runs. It marked just the third three-hit performance for the outfielder this season, while the long ball was his first since July 26. Duvall certainly showed out in his return to the starting lineup (his last start was Aug. 12), and he'll look to build off that performance as Atlanta continues to battle through the injury bug down the final stretch of the regular season. However, even after the three-hit effort Duvall is still batting just .181 (4-for-22) in August, with his lone RBI and run for this month coming on Thursday's homer.
Aug 21 2024Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since making consecutive starts Aug. 11 and 12, Duvall has yet to rejoin the Atlanta lineup, even with Austin Riley (hand) landing on the injured list Tuesday and with Jorge Soler (hamstring) missing a sixth straight start Wednesday. Atlanta has signed Gio Urshela to replace Riley as its main option at third base, while Ramon Laureano has emerged as the preferred option in right field while Soler as day-to-day. Duvall looks like he might have to settle for the short side of a platoon with Jarred Kelenic in left field for now, though he could cede that role to Laureano once Soler is back in action.
Aug 8 2024Duvall will start in left field and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get his second straight start in left field and has a clearer path to playing time against right-handed pitching after Atlanta designated Eddie Rosario for assignment Thursday, but Duvall's run atop the depth chart is likely to be short-lived. Michael Harris (hamstring) is in the midst of a rehab assignment and could be activated from the 60-day injured list as soon as this weekend, at which point Jarred Kelenic would likely shift over from center field and take on an everyday role in left.
Jul 31 2024Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row, with both absences coming while Atlanta has faced right-handed starting pitchers. Duvall and Eddie Rosario had been operating as Atlanta's primary starters in the corner outfield for much of the past three weeks, but Duvall now looks set to occupy the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Rosario while trade-deadline acquisition Jorge Soler settles into a full-time role in right field.
Jul 27 2024Duvall went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder gave Atlanta an early 2-0 lead when he took Kodai Senga (calf) deep in the second inning, before adding a solo shot in the ninth off Jake Diekman. Duvall has taken over the starting job in right field over the last month or so, but only because Atlanta hasn't found a better option -- in his last 20 games, he's slashing just .243/.282/.459 with four homers, nine RBI and a 4:22 BB:K. With Michael Harris (hamstring) due back in mid-August and the team likely to be active at the trade deadline, the clock on Duvall's starting stint could be ticking.
Jul 25 2024Duvall isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Thursday's game versus the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get a chance to regroup Thursday after he went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts during Wednesday's loss to the Reds. His absence will allow Ramon Laureano to pick up a start in right field while batting eighth.
Jul 21 2024Duvall is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder went 0-for-8 with a strikeout and a run during Saturday's doubleheader and will sit after starting the previous 20 games. Ramon Laureano will start in right field Sunday in Duvall's stead.
Jul 10 2024Duvall went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall powered Atlanta's offense with a huge three-run blast in the sixth to push his team out to a 5-0 lead. He punished an 0-2 curveball from Zac Gallen and subsequently ended Gallen's night. Tuesday was Duvall's third multi-hit effort over his last seven games. He's been seeing the ball much better as of late, slashing .310/.356/.548 with seven RBI and four runs scored in 11 games since June 28. Duvall is still working to get his season-long numbers up, as he's hitting just .191/.260/.336 with eight homers, 25 RBI, 22 runs and an 18:69 BB:K in 242 plate appearances.
Jul 7 2024Duvall went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had a great game Sunday, managing to snap a streak of 96 at-bats without a homer in the process. The streak of 24 games without hitting a HR was the fourth longest of his career and his longest in a single season since 2018. It was also Duvall's second game this week with three or more hits after not having a three-hit game since August of last season. The 35-year-old may be starting to turn it around, but he's still hitting a meager .184/.253/.321 with seven homers and 22 RBI for the season.
Jul 3 2024Duvall went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has hit safely in five straight games, though Wednesday's performance was his first multi-hit effort since June 13. The veteran outfielder batted a paltry .136 in June, even worse than his .184 mark on the year. He's added a .569 OPS, six home runs, 21 RBI, 19 runs scored and no stolen bases through 217 plate appearances. Duvall has occasionally served in a short-side platoon role, but he should continue to have steady playing time in right field as long as Ramon Laureano (oblique) is out.
Jun 30 2024Duvall will start in right field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will make his fourth consecutive start in right field in place of Ramon Laureano, who remains day-to-day with a back injury. Over his previous three starts, Duvall went 2-for-11 with a double and two RBI.
Jun 24 2024Duvall is out of the lineup for Monday's game in St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will hit the bench for Atlanta's second straight matchup with a right-handed pitcher (Lance Lynn). While Michael Harris (hamstring) is on the shelf, Atlanta looks content to go with Forrest Wall, Jarred Kelenic and Ramon Laureano as its preferred outfield configuration from left to right against right-handed pitching. Duvall had taken hold of a regular role in the corner outfield after Ronald Acuna (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear May 26, but the 35-year-old has turned in an ugly .135/.189/.225 slash line since that time. Atlanta should still have a spot in the lineup for Duvall against left-handed pitching as a short-side platoon mate for the lefty-hitting Wall.
Jun 6 2024Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Nationals in a 5-2 victory Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta was being shut out by rookie hurler Mitchell Parker until Duvall tied the score with his two-run blast in the seventh inning. The long ball was his first since he went deep in back-to-back games May 26-27. Duvall is still under the Mendoza line with a .195 average on the campaign, but he's taken on a near-everyday role in right field since Ronald Acuna was lost for the season due to a knee injury.
May 28 2024Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took a tiring Mitchell Parker deep in the seventh inning, giving Duvall his second homer in as many days and his fifth of the year. The veteran outfielder will move out of his short-side platoon role and take over as Atlanta's everyday right fielder due to Ronald Acuna (knee) being lost for the season, but if Duvall's .209/.303/.407 slash line doesn't improve, the team might give J.P. Martinez a look instead.
May 26 2024Duvall went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Sunday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall blasted an eighth-inning 1-0 offering by Pirates reliever Aroldis Chapman over the wall in left-center for his fourth home run of the season. Duvall, who earned the start with lefty Martin Perez starting the game on the hill, is set to earn additional playing time in the near future, as Ronald Acuna left the game with a knee injury and is slated for a stint on the IL.
May 23 2024Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Cubs while also being hit by a pitch. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall jumped on a four-seamer from Justin Steele in the top of the third and crushed it 423 feet into the stands in center field to give Atlanta an early 2-0 lead. The outfielder would then come around to score for a second time on a sac fly in the seventh after being hit by a pitch, marking only the second time this season in which he's scored multiple runs in a game. The home run was Duvall's third of the campaign and first since April 23 against the Marlins, while the two RBI were also his first in the month of May.
Apr 24 2024Duvall went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored twice during Atlanta's 5-0 win over Miami on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall came around to score after reaching on a fielder's choice during the second inning, and his sixth-inning home run would end up scoring Atlanta's final two runs in a game that was hardly ever in doubt. Although Duvall played well Tuesday, he remains stuck in the short side of a platoon with Jarred Kelenic and shouldn't be relied upon to provide consistent fantasy production -- even on days he does start.
Apr 15 2024Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran slugger took Jesus Luzardo deep in the fourth inning. Duvall has mainly been limited to a short-side platoon role to begin the season, splitting starts in left field with Jarred Kelenic, and through seven games he's batting .250 (6-for-24) with a double, a homer, three runs and six RBI.
Apr 12 2024Duvall went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 16-4 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 35-year-old has only earned five starts on the year, but has shown decent consistency at the plate during that time frame. Duvall has earned the majority of his starts when the team faces lefties, and if he is able to stay consistent at the plate he could get a few more at-bats sprinkled in outside of his typical platoon role. At least for the foreseeable future, however, Jarred Kelenic's hot start (.462 through 26 at-bats) stands as a major obstacle to the veteran's rise in fantasy prominence.
Mar 14 2024Duvall signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Atlanta on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall seems like more of a luxury than a necessity for Atlanta, but the club has decided to bring the 35-year-old back for what will be his third stint in the organization. The addition of Duvall will allow Atlanta to limit Jarred Kelenic's exposure against left-handed pitching, and the veteran will also provide some insurance as Ronald Acuna comes back from a knee issue. Duvall slashed .247/.303/.531 with 21 home runs over 92 games for the Red Sox last season.
Sep 28 2023Duvall is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Orioles, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marks four out of the last five games that Duvall has not been in the starting lineup, as Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu both look to have passed the veteran outfielder in the pecking order down the stretch, at least against right-handed pitching. Duvall has managed a lowly .494 OPS this month.
Sep 23 2023Duvall is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela and Alex Verdugo are the starting outfielders for the Red Sox on Saturday. They will go up against right-hander Dylan Cease while Duvall has primarily been used against lefties as of late. The outfielder has had a rough September, and since Sept. 16 he has gone 4-for-23 with a .508 OPS.
Sep 20 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's loss against Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall got the Red Sox on the board early Wednesday, blasting a three-run, 443-foot homer off Jon Gray in the first inning. It's certainly a step in the right direction for Duvall, who'd been marred in a 2-for-36 slump while striking out at a 55.3 percent rate in his previous nine games. Overall, the veteran outfielder is slashing .250/.308/.533 with 20 homers, 56 RBI and 43 runs scored through 331 plate appearances this season.
Sep 15 2023Duvall is absent from the lineup Friday at Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Masataka Yoshida, Wilyer Abreu and Alex Verdugo will start across the outfield for the Red Sox as they take on right-hander Jose Berrios. Duvall has primarily been playing against lefties in recent weeks and is 3-for-34 (.088) so far in September.
Sep 14 2023Duvall isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored during Boston's win in Game 1, and he will sit out the nightcap. His absence will allow Wilyer Abreu to start in center field and at sixth.
Sep 13 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder is 0-for-17 with 14 strikeouts over his past four games and will head to the bench for Wednesday's contest. Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela and Alex Verdugo will start across the outfield while Masataka Yoshida serves as the designated hitter.
Sep 12 2023Duvall is absent from the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had been slated to sit out Monday before the game was rained out, and he will remain out of the lineup for the makeup contest as he goes through a slump at the plate. Wilyer Abreu is patrolling center field for the Red Sox.
Sep 11 2023Duvall is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has now been on the bench for three straight contests following a stretch when he went 0-for-13 with 10 strikeouts. The 35-year-old has been productive on the whole for the Red Sox this season, but the peaks and valleys in production for Duvall are nothing new. Wilyer Abreu will be in center field again Monday while Duvall sits.
Sep 10 2023Duvall remains out of the lineup Sunday versus the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This appears to be part of a planned two-day break for Duvall, who was also on the bench Saturday versus Baltimore and has gone 0-for-13 with 10 strikeouts over his last three games. Ceddanne Rafaela will cover center field and bat leadoff for the Red Sox on Sunday.
Sep 9 2023Duvall will be on the bench for Saturday's game against Baltimore, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall finds himself on the bench for the first time since Aug. 18. He owns a 1.043 OPS since his last off day but has gone 0-for-13 with 10 strikeouts in his last three games, so a rest is probably called for. Wilyer Abreu will take over in center field.
Sep 4 2023Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall is feeling it right now. Sunday's home run was his eighth in the last 13 games. He's hit safely in 12 of those 13 games, slashing .408/.463/.1020 with six doubles, 16 RBI and 11 runs scored. The Red Sox are still in the playoff hunt -- 5.5 games behind the final wild card spot -- and manager Alex Cora will operate as such. That means sending the veteran Duvall out there daily until postseason hopes are extinguished.
Aug 30 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall now has a home run in each of his last four games and seven in his last nine contests -- he's gone 17-for-36 (.472) with a 1.707 OPS in that span. Duvall's torrid stretch has boosted his slash line to an impressive .276/.337/.593 with 18 homers, 50 RBI, 39 runs scored and four steals across 270 plate appearances this season.
Aug 27 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with one double, a solo home run and two runs scored in Sunday's loss against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall hit his 16th homer of the year in the eighth to pull the Red Sox to within three. Duvall has been scorching recently, recording multiple hit efforts in seven of his last nine, including five in which he's recorded multiple extra-base hits. Duvall is hitting .410 with five home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs scored over his last 39 at-bats.
Aug 26 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer in Saturday's win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall blasted a towering, three-run homer that gave Boston a 5-4 advantage in the sixth inning. The long ball was the veteran's fourth in the last six games and he's 12-for-25 with 11 RBI and five runs scored during that span.
Aug 24 2023Duvall (foot) is starting in left field and batting cleanup Thursday in Houston, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall popped a go-ahead, three-run home run one pitch after fouling a ball off his right foot in Wednesday's win over the Astros and was noticeably gimpy running around the bases. He finished out that contest, though, and is back in there for Thursday's afternoon tilt. Duvall will be trying to make it four games in a row with a home run.
Aug 23 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has been a menace to Houston pitching, swatting a homer in all three games of the series so far. He's 7-for-13 with five extra-base hits and seven RBI in that span. The outfielder's surge has improved his slash line to .259/.322/.541 with 14 long balls, 42 RBI, 34 runs scored and four stolen bases over 64 contests this season. Duvall figures to pick up the bulk of the playing time in center field with Jarren Duran (toe) landing on the injured list Tuesday.
Aug 22 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Red Sox have put up just seven runs across the first two games of their series with the Astros, Duvall has been highly productive. He's 5-for-9 (.555) and has logged a double and a home run in each contest while driving in four batters. Tuesday's long ball was Duvall's 13th of the campaign, surpassing his 2022 total (86 games) after appearing in 63 games so far this year.
Aug 21 2023Duvall went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and a double in Monday's loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall provided most of Boston's offense Monday when he drilled a three-run shot in the first inning. He's collected multiple hits five times this month but has gone just 13-for-58 (.224) in 17 August games. Duvall is slashing .250/.314/.509 with 30 extra-base hits and 38 RBI through 236 plate appearances.
Aug 13 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall extended Boston's lead to 3-1 in the third inning with an RBI single before blasting a three-run homer off Eduardo Rodriguez in the fifth. The 34-year-old outfielder is now 7-for-22 (.318) with two home runs in his last eight games, though he's slipped into a platoon role with Jarren Duran of late. Overall, Duvall's slashing .251/.322/.524 with 11 homers, 35 RBI, 29 runs scored and four steals across 211 plate appearances this season.
Aug 9 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will retreat to the bench after he picked up starts in right field and center field in the first two contests of the series while going 1-for-8 with a solo home run and five strikeouts. The 34-year-old looks like the Red Sox's nominal No. 4 outfielder at the moment, but since he'll be a fixture in the lineup against left-handed pitching and will fill in when the likes of Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida or Alex Verdugo need a rest day, Duvall should still start fairly regularly.
Aug 6 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall picked up starts in each of the last four games, but he and Jarren Duran may have to settle for more of a timeshare in the outfield for the foreseeable future while the Red Sox give the newly acquired Luis Urias a look as their primary second baseman. With Urias picking up his third straight start at second base Sunday, Justin Turner will serve as the designated hitter and Masataka Yoshida will move back to the outfield.
Aug 5 2023Duvall is starting in right field and batting sixth Saturday against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old was originally absent from Saturday's starting nine but will end up manning right field after Alex Verdugo (undisclosed) was scratched. Duvall is mired in a 1-for-18 slump over his past six games.
Jul 31 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will head to the bench after picking up starts in either right field or center field in each of the last six games while going 7-for-21 with two home runs, three doubles, four RBI, four runs and one stolen base. Boston currently has a logjam in the outfield it could look to relieve ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, with Duvall -- who is set to become a free agent this offseason -- standing out as the likeliest option to get moved.
Jul 30 2023Duvall went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall got the Red Sox on the board with his seventh-inning blast. The outfielder has gone 11-for-40 (.275) with three homers and four doubles over 12 games since the All-Star break. He's up to a .261/.329/.542 slash line with nine homers, 29 RBI, 25 runs scored and four stolen bases through 44 contests overall. Duvall continues to see steady time in center field primarily, and also on occasion in right field.
Jul 20 2023Duvall went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the first multi-hit game for Duvall since June 25, though he's been swinging the bat better of late, going 8-for-29 (.276) with an .846 OPS over his last nine games. The veteran outfielder is up to three stolen bases this season, halfway to his career best set back in 2016. Duvall's posted solid numbers overall in his first year with Boston -- he's now slashing .258/.324/.523 with seven home runs, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored across 145 plate appearances.
Jul 15 2023Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-3 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall hit one of eight home runs at Wrigley Field, including six by the Red Sox. The outfielder has homered in two consecutive games and hit safely in five straight. Duvall is still searching for the magic stick he had early in the season, prior to a wrist injury that cost him two months. Since returning June 9, Duvall is slashing .179/.253/.3456 with five doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, two steals and seven runs scored over 24 games.
Jul 5 2023Duvall (illness) is starting in center field and batting sixth Wednesday versus the Rangers in his return to the lineup. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has been a bit under the weather of late, although his bat has also been sickly since he returned from the injured list with a .154/.247/.262 slash line and 36 percent strikeout rate. He'll look for better results Wednesday against Jon Gray and the Rangers.
Jul 4 2023Duvall is out of the lineup in part Tuesday because he's sick, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It helps explain why Duvall is on the bench for a third time in four games, although his struggles over the last month are also no doubt a contributing factor. It sounds like he could be ready to play Wednesday, but at this point it's looking like Jarren Duran might have the leg up for playing time in center field against right-handers.
Jul 2 2023Duvall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Toronto, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republicanreports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has gone 4-for-31 with 14 strikeouts over his past eight appearances and will take a seat Sunday for the second time in Boston's past three games. Jarren Duran will roam center field and bat leadoff Sunday.
Jun 30 2023Duvall is out of the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jarren Duran will start in center field and bat leadoff versus the Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios. Duvall has slashed just .167/.265/.283 in 68 plate appearances since he returned June 9 from a two-month IL stint for a fracture in his left wrist.
Jun 21 2023Duvall is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jarren Duran will start in center field and bat leadoff as the Red Sox face off against the Twins and right-hander Sonny Gray. Duvall is slashing .177/.282/.324 with 12 strikeouts in 10 games since he returned June 9 from a two-month absence to heal a left wrist fracture.
Jun 18 2023Duvall isn't starting the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get a breather after he went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Sunday's matinee. Jarren Duran is taking over in center field and leading off.
Jun 11 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will head to the bench for the series finale after he returned from the 60-day injured list Friday and went 1-for-6 with a walk and a stolen base while making starts in center field the past two days. Jarren Duran will get the nod in center Sunday, but Duvall looks as though he could settle back in as the Red Sox's preferred option at the position while Duran has been stuck in a prolonged swoon at the dish.
Jun 10 2023Duvall went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went 0-for-3 on Friday in his return from a wrist injury that landed him on the 60-day injured list. He was able to knock a hit Saturday, and he avoided a strikeout after taking three of them Friday. The outfielder may still need to work on finding his timing at the plate after the long absence. He's batting .410 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored and one steal through 10 contests, and he should have a path to near-everyday playing time as long as he remains healthy.
Jun 9 2023Duvall (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Duvall is back in the fold when first eligible. He had posted a ridiculous 1.544 OPS with four home runs and 14 RBI through eight games this season prior to suffering a fractured left wrist in early April. The 34-year-old also hit well on a seven-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester, recording three extra-base hits -- including two homers -- over 24 at-bats. Duvall's career .764 OPS suggests it's unlikely he'll pick up where he left off in April, but he could be a reliable source of power the rest of the way for Boston.
Jun 8 2023Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated that Duvall (wrist) will be activated Friday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That's the first day Duvall is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list. He showed well on the farm while completing his recovery from an April 10 wrist fracture, posting an .845 OPS with two home runs and a double in seven rehab games at Triple-A Worcester. The 34-year-old outfielder was off to a massive start with the Red Sox before suffering the early-season injury.
Jun 5 2023Duvall (wrist) expects to be activated from the injured list when first eligible Friday, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has homered twice in five rehab games with Triple-A Worcester and is slated to play a few more rehab contests this week. Assuming those go off without a hitch, he should be ready to go for the Red Sox' weekend series against the Yankees. Duvall has been out since early April with a fractured left wrist.
Jun 4 2023Duvall (wrist) started in center field and went 1-for-3 with two walks, a two-run home run and two additional runs scored for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall blasted his second home run during a rehab stint for Worcester. He's played center field the last four games, including one full nine-inning appearance, and is 3-for-16 with two homers, three RBI and five runs scored over five games with the WooSox. He's eligible to be activated this coming Friday, when the Red Sox open a three-game set against the Yankees in New York.
Jun 1 2023Duvall (wrist) started in center field and went 0-for-3 during a rehab game with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall played five innings in the field before being removed. It was the first time in the field for the rehabbing Duvall, who kicked off an assignment Tuesday as the WooSox's DH. Duvall is 0-for-6 with four strikeouts in his first two rehab starts. He is eligible to return June 9.
May 31 2023Duvall (wrist) served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall, who began a rehab assignment Tuesday, struck out in his first two at-bats before flying out in his third plate appearance. He was eventually pinch hit for by Daniel Palka. The outfielder is not eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until June 9, and Duvall is targeting that date for a return, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. Red Sox manager Alex Cora expects Duvall to play the outfield Wednesday before a day off Thursday.
May 26 2023Duvall (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get to face competition for the first time since suffering a distal radius fracture in his left wrist on April 10. The outfielder is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on June 9. Red Sox manager Alex Cora did dismiss Duvall coming back to Boston as a first baseman -- saying it was "not even a thought -- but there's a good chance he sees significant playing time in the Boston outfield in the middle of June.
May 20 2023Duvall (wrist) has resumed hitting off a tee and participating in soft toss, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Abraham suggests that Duvall is right around three weeks away from a return, which just about lines up with the outfielder's stated goal of returning to the lineup June 9. Duvall got off to a red-hot start with Boston before fracturing his left wrist making a diving attempt for a catch April 10. Once healthy, he should see regular playing time for the Red Sox, although the development of Jarren Duran might see him Duvall not playing in center field as frequently as he was.
May 17 2023Duvall (wrist) said Wednesday that he's aiming to return from the injured list when first eligible on June 9, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not clear whether the Red Sox have the same date circled for Duvall, but it does seem like he might have a shot. Duvall went through offensive and defensive drills with the team at Fenway Park on Wednesday and is working on rebuilding strength in his fractured left wrist. He will need multiple rehab games before returning and it's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment.
May 12 2023Duvall (wrist) recently had his cast removed and has begun tracking pitches, but he hasn't participated in baseball activities yet, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has been on the injured list since April 10 after he fractured his wrist while making a diving attempt for a catch. The outfielder is on the 60-day injured list but has a chance to return to the Boston outfield by the middle of June.
May 6 2023Duvall (fractured wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move officially rules out Duvall until at least June 9. He hit .455 with four home runs in eight games before suffering a fractured left wrist that will not require surgery. Jarren Duran has capitalized on Duvall's absence.
Apr 5 2023Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After seeing his four-game hit streak to open the season come to an end with an 0-for-4 performance in Tuesday's 4-1 loss, Duvall will get a breather as the Red Sox and Pirates wrap up their series with a day game. Raimel Tapia will step into the lineup in center field as a replacement for Duvall, who has been an early fantasy standout with a .476 average, two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs through five games.
Apr 2 2023Duvall went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored during Sunday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall doubled and scored in the third inning, and he did most of his damage with a two-run single in the fifth. The veteran outfielder had a massive weekend, going 7-for-10 with six extra-base hits and seven RBI in the last two games. He started and hit fifth in each of Boston's first three games and looks to be locked into an everyday role in center.
Apr 1 2023Duvall went 4-for-5 with two home runs, including a walkoff blast, a triple, five RBI and three runs scored in a 9-8 win over the Orioles on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall gave the Red Sox the comeback victory with a two-run homer off Felix Bautista with two outs in the ninth. He also scored three runs and added a single in a sensational effort for the veteran outfielder. His long balls Saturday were the first two homers of the season for Duvall, and he's already driven in six runs over two games.
Mar 13 2023Duvall went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's spring game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had been hitless over his first six Grapefruit League games (14 plate appearances) before going on a three-game hit streak that included his first spring home run and extra-base hit. A corner outfielder for most of his career, the 34-year-old Duvall will be tasked to play a majority of innings in center field, a position normally reserved for younger legs. He began a transition to center field in 2021 and played a career-high 382 innings there last season. Duvall's coming off wrist surgery and a down year, so when you add in playing one of the diamond's more challenging positions, he's a risky bet in 2023.
Jan 25 2023Duvall (wrist) said Tuesday at his introductory press conference with the Red Sox that he'll be "full go" for spring training, Gabrielle Star of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall, who joined the Red Sox on a one-year, $7 million deal, didn't see any action for Atlanta after July 23 of last year due to a left wrist injury that ultimately required season-ending surgery. Fortunately for Duvall, the surgery was to his non-dominant wrist, which offers hope that he might bounce back in the power department after he saw a 75-point drop in his isolated slugging from 2021 before opting for the season-ending surgery. The Red Sox are planning to install Duvall as their primary center fielder in 2023, and given that the 34-year-old has spent most of his career as a corner outfielder, showing up to spring training at full health should give him ample time to adapt well to the position change.
Jan 18 2023Duvall (wrist) agreed Wednesday with the Red Sox on a one-year, $7 million contract that includes up to $3 million in playing time-based incentives, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican, the Red Sox envision Duvall settling in as their everyday center fielder, even though 90 percent of the 34-year-old's career innings in the outfield have come at a corner spot. Duvall graded out adequately as a defender in the innings he played in center for Atlanta in 2022, but he saw his isolated power take a major dip following a 38-homer 2021 campaign before he underwent season-ending surgery in late July to address a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. Duvall should be at close to full health for spring training, and the Red Sox are hoping that he can rediscover his power stroke while essentially stepping into the lineup as a replacement for Trevor Story. Enrique Hernandez, who had regularly played in center field in 2022, is expected to play regularly at shortstop while Story is likely sidelined for most of the first half of the season.
Aug 10 2022Duvall (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was moved to the 60-day IL in order to open a roster spot for Vaughn Grissom, who had his contract selected Wednesday. Duvall remains out for the remainder of the season while recovering from a surgery on his left wrist.
Jul 24 2022Duvall, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, will undergo surgery on his left wrist and miss the rest of the season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall exited Saturday's contest with left wrist discomfort, but he's since been diagnosed with a torn tendon sheath and will be out for the rest of 2022. The 33-year-old will finish the campaign with a .213/.276/.401 slash line, 12 home runs, and 36 RBI in 86 games.
Jul 23 2022Duvall left Saturday's game against the Angels in the third inning with left wrist soreness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went 0-for-1 in his only at-bat in Saturday's contest before leaving. It's unclear when he tweaked the wrist, but he can be considered day-to-day moving forward. Guillermo Heredia replaced him in left field.
Jul 16 2022Duvall went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His ninth-inning blast off Kyle Finnegan capped the scoring for Atlanta. Since returning from the paternity list early in the week, Duvall has gone yard twice in three games to give him 12 homers and 35 RBI on the year, but his .211/.275/.401 slash line given him limited fantasy value in shallower formats.
Jul 14 2022Duvall isn't starting Thursday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall is getting a breather after he went 1-for-7 with a two-run homer and four strikeouts over the last two games. Eddie Rosario will take over in left field and bat fifth.
Jul 11 2022Duvall will sit Monday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although he was activated from the paternity list Monday, Duvall will remain out of the lineup for the fifth consecutive game. Eddie Rosario will get the start in left field and bat sixth against the Mets.
Jul 8 2022Duvall was placed on the paternity list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will step away from the team for a few days in order to spend time with his growing family. The paternity list has a three-day minimum, but he should be back for Monday's series opener versus the Mets. Eddie Rosario, William Contreras and Guillermo Heredia are the likely candidates to see increased playing time this weekend with Duvall unavailable.
Jul 7 2022Duvall (hand) is starting in left field and batting seventh Thursday versus the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Duvall will make his return to the lineup Thursday following a four-game absence with a hand injury. Prior to getting injured, the outfielder owned a five-game hit streak, going 6-for-20 with two homers, five RBI and four runs over those contests.
Jul 6 2022Manager Brian Snitker said Duvall (hand), who is out of the lineup Wednesday, is expected to start Thursday's series finale versus the Cardinals, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old is sitting out the fourth straight game Wednesday due to the left hand injury, but he's poised to rejoin the starting nine Thursday. Duvall struggled through the first two months of the season but came alive offensively in June with a .864 OPS, eight home runs and 15 RBI in 27 games.
Jul 5 2022Duvall (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's sore left hand will keep him on the bench for the third game in a row. Eddie Rosario will cover left field in place of Duvall.
Jul 4 2022Duvall (hand) isn't starting Monday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall recently underwent X-rays that came back negative but will remain out of the lineup for a second consecutive game after he was hit by a pitch on his left hand Saturday. Once the 33-year-old is cleared to return, it's possible that he'll see a slight decrease in playing time since Eddie Rosario was reinstated from the injured list Monday.
Jul 3 2022Duvall (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will be on the bench for the series finale in Cincinnati, but he appears to have avoided a major injury after his left hand was struck by a pitch in Saturday's 4-1 victory. Per David O'Brien of The Athletic, both X-rays and an MRI conducted after the game cleared Duvall of any structural damage, so he'll be day-to-day heading into Atlanta's series opener with the Cardinals on Monday.
Jul 2 2022Duvall exited Saturday's game against the Reds after he was hit by a pitch on his left hand. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was hit by a pitch in the top of the second inning and initially remained in the game, but he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the third inning. The extent of his injury isn't yet known, and it's not clear whether he'll be forced to miss additional time.
Jul 1 2022Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Thursday's loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder has gone yard in two straight games, giving him 10 homers on the year. Duvall otherwise isn't doing much at the plate however, slashing .205/.270/.375 through 75 games with 31 RBI and 35 runs, and his 32.6 percent strikeout rate would be the worst mark of his career over a full season if it doesn't improve in the second half.
Jun 29 2022Duvall went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall gave Atlanta its first lead with an RBI on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning. He added a solo shot in the seventh, making this his third consecutive game with an extra-base hit. The veteran outfielder isn't hitting all that well with a .200 batting average and .628 OPS through 74 contests. He's added nine homers, 30 RBI, 33 runs scored, 12 doubles and a triple this year.
Jun 23 2022Duvall is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In addition to Duvall, fellow lineup regulars Ronald Acuna and Austin Riley are also receiving breathers for the day game after a night game. Marcell Ozuna, who has typically served as Atlanta's designated hitter, will step in for Duvall in left field.
Jun 19 2022Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The long ball was the eighth of the season for Duvall, who has now left the yard for the fourth time in past six games. The 33-year-old's recent hot stretch should be enough for him to maintain an everyday role in the outfield while Marcell Ozuna typically handles designated-hitter duties.
Jun 13 2022Duvall went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and three runs scored in Monday's 9-5 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has rediscovered his power in June, with five of his seven homers this season coming in the last nine games. He also showed rare patience at the plate Monday, drawing his first walks since May 25. The outfielder owns a .209/.270/.369 slash line with 25 RBI, 30 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple through 60 contests. While the power is nice, he's likely to remain a drag on batting average since he's struck out at a 31.4 percent rate this year.
Jun 12 2022Duvall went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in Sunday's 5-3 win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall hit a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth, both off of Jose Quintana. He's hitting .278 with four home runs and eight RBI in 11 June contests after entering this month with just two long balls and a .190/.258/.268 slash line. The veteran slugger has improved his season line to .206/.261/.353 with 27 runs scored.
Jun 8 2022Duvall went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored during Wednesday's 13-2 win over the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old sat out Tuesday's contest with left triceps cramping, but he rejoined the lineup Wednesday and launched his fourth homer of the campaign. Duvall also lost his arbitration case to Atlanta on Wednesday and will earn $9.28 million this season, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which is his final year of arbitration eligibility.
Jun 7 2022Duvall was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the A's due to left triceps cramping, though he'll still be available off the bench. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The triceps injury doesn't appear to be a serious concern, but it will still cost Duvall at least one game. Guillermo Heredia will man left field in his place for Atlanta.
Jun 2 2022Duvall is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall started the past three games and will take a seat after going 3-for-13 with a double and a run scored during that span. Marcell Ozuna, Michael Harris and Guillermo Heredia will start from left to right in the outfield while Ronald Acuna (general soreness) serves as the designated hitter.
May 29 2022Duvall is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will take a seat for the first time since May 14, opening up center field for top prospect Michael Harris, who picks up his second start in a row after entering the lineup for a resting Travis d'Arnaud in Saturday's 4-1 loss. With Duvall struggling in May to the tune of a .179/.255/.238 slash line, he could be at risk of moving into a short-side platoon role if Harris hits the ground running in his first taste of the big leagues.
May 14 2022Duvall isn't starting Saturday against San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went 5-for-18 with a homer, four runs, two RBI, a walk and five strikeouts over his last five games, and he'll get his first day off since April 22. Guillermo Heredia will start in center field and bat ninth.
Apr 23 2022Duvall (personal) is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall sat out Friday while tending to a personal matter, but he will return to action one day later. He will man center field and occupy the seventh spot in Atlanta's batting order.
Apr 22 2022Duvall is dealing with a family-related illness but will have a chance to return to the lineup Saturday against the Marlins, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall isn't in the lineup for Friday's game, and seems as though he'll be unavailable off the bench. However, the 33-year-old is unlikely to require a lengthy absence. Travis Demeritte is starting in right field and batting ninth Friday.
Apr 13 2022Duvall went 3-for-5 with a walk, two RBI and a run in Tuesday's 16-4 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The three hits matched Duvall's output from Atlanta's first five games combined, allowing him to raise his season-long batting average by 94 points. Duvall will pick up another start in center field in Wednesday's series finale, but he'll likely move to a corner-outfield spot on a regular basis once Ronald Acuna (knee) is cleared to return from the injured list.
Apr 4 2022Duvall is batting .318 (7-for-22) through 10 games this spring with one home run and a 3:5 BB:K. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran slugger set career highs with 38 homers and 113 RBI last year over 146 games between Atlanta and the Marlins, and Duvall seems ready to pick up where he left off. The Atlanta lineup should be deep enough to give him plenty of RBI opportunities even if he hits lower in the lineup, as his career .232 batting average and .291 OBP suggest he should.
Nov 4 2021Duvall declined his portion of his $7 million mutual option Thursday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's decision to decline his option isn't surprising, but Atlanta will be able to tender him by Dec. 2 since he's eligible for arbitration. The 33-year-old appeared in 146 games between Miami and Atlanta this year and hit .228 with 38 home runs, 113 RBI and 67 runs.
Oct 27 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and two strikeouts in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Astros in Game 1 of the World Series. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was part of an offensive surge to begin Tuesday's contest, and his two-run homer in the third inning led to the removal of starter Framber Valdez. The 33-year-old went 0-for-7 with five strikeouts across the final two games of the NLCS but got off to a strong start in the World Series.
Oct 21 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall hadn't homered in any of his first seven postseason appearances in 2021, but he hit a solo blast in the second inning to help extend Atlanta's early lead Wednesday. Since the start of the NLCS, the 33-year-old has gone 4-for-14 with a home run, four RBI and two runs.
Oct 12 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a triple in Game 3 of the NLDS against Milwaukee on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall came through with a single in the bottom of the second inning, but he made a costly baserunning error later in the inning. He was tagged out at second base before Austin Riley crossed home plate, which prevented the run from scoring. He did respond in the fourth, however, blasting a triple deep into the gap in right center. Duvall is now 2-for-11 with an extra-base hit and a walk through three postseason contests.
Oct 2 2021Duvall will sit Saturday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall sits for the second game in a row as Atlanta goes with a heavily rotated lineup with the division title already in hand. Guillermo Heredia will make another start in center field.
Oct 1 2021Duvall is out of the lineup Friday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will receive the day off after Atlanta clinched the NL East division crown Thursday. Guillermo Heredia will start in center field Friday.
Sep 26 2021Duvall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall sits for the first time in two weeks. He's hit .261 with three homers and 11 RBI in 11 games since his last time on the bench, though he also struck out in 46.8 percent of his plate appearances over that stretch. Joc Pederson takes over in center field.
Sep 24 2021Duvall (legs) is starting the second game of Friday's twin bill against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall homered in the conclusion of the suspended game against the Padres on Friday, and he'll remain in the lineup for the nightcap after he was removed from Thursday's game due to fatigue in his legs. The 33-year-old will start in center field and bat fifth.
Sep 23 2021Duvall exited Thursday's game due to fatigue in his legs, but he is expected to be in Friday's lineup against San Diego, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was busy defensively Wednesday, which was the reason given for his fatigue. However, his presence in the lineup for the team's weekend series against the Padres will be vital, as he's collected at least one hit in 18 of his last 19 starts and collected eight home runs, 21 RBI and 11 runs scored in that span.
Sep 21 2021Duvall went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Monday in Atlanta's 11-4 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's second home run in as many days was perhaps his most majestic blast of the season -- it traveled an estimated 483 feet. The long ball was Duvall's 37th of the campaign and the 150th of his career. With Duvall having also tacked on 107 RBI and 65 runs to complement his home run total, he's been a major source of profit for fantasy managers who snagged him in the later rounds of drafts.
Sep 19 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went deep off Anthony DeSclafani in the seventh inning for the first two runs of the game. He extended his hitting streak to 15 games. He had seven home runs in that stretch. The 32-year-old is slashing .234/.305/.557 with 14 long balls, 37 RBI and 23 runs scored in 513 plate appearances with Atlanta this season.
Sep 15 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's lone hit of the night was a big one, as he took Jhoulys Chacin yard in the eighth to make it a one-run ballgame. The 32-year-old struggled otherwise with three strikeouts on the night but has hit well overall so far in September. Duvall has registered at least one hit in all 11 games he's played this month and has six home runs and 13 RBI over that span. He's currently sixth in baseball with 35 home runs and is one of six players who has already reached the 100-RBI threshold this year. Overall, Duvall is slashing .229/.285/.503 with 35 homers, 101 RBI, 62 runs scored, five steals and a 35:151 BB:K over 495 plate appearances.
Sep 12 2021Duvall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall sits for just the second time since he was acquired in a trade with the Marlins at the deadline. Eddie Rosario will get the start in left field.
Sep 8 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall got Atlanta on the board in the fourth inning, when his blast to left-center field cut the Washington lead to 2-1. It was the 33rd long ball of the year for Duvall, matching the career high he established back in 2016 when he was a National League All-Star with the Reds. The homer also gave Duvall an NL league-leading 98 RBI, putting him on the verge of reaching the century mark for the second time in his career.
Sep 7 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 8-5 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder put Atlanta ahead 3-1 with his first-inning blast. Duvall has turned things around a bit in September with three homers, nine RBI and four runs scored during his current six-game hitting streak. For the season, he's slashing .228/.285/.492 with 32 long balls, 97 RBI, 59 runs scored, five stolen bases and 15 doubles through 474 plate appearances.
Sep 6 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's only hit of the day was a big one as he took Ryan Feltner deep to center field in the third for a three-run blast to put Atlanta up 5-0. The 32-year-old has three homers over his last seven games and has hit safely in 10 of his last 13. Duvall hasn't been spectacular since his trade back to Atlanta before the deadline. He's slashing .220/.298/.508 with nine homers, 26 RBI, 17 runs scored and 12:35 BB:K in 33 games.
Aug 30 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout in a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall singled in the fifth inning and tacked on a solo home run in the seventh as he was the only Atlanta player to reach base multiple times on Monday. The outfielder is one long ball shy of reaching 30 for the third time and his career high of 33 back in 2016 is well within reach.
Aug 29 2021Duvall is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has started all 25 games for Atlanta since being acquired from Miami at the end of July, and he'll finally take a seat after posting a .738 OPS with six homers and 19 RBI during that stretch. Eddie Rosario will make his first start in left field since being activated from the injured list Friday.
Aug 27 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 win over San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder snapped a seven-game homer drought with his second-inning blast. Duvall is up to 28 long balls this season, just five shy of his career-high 33 from 2016. Despite the impressive power, he's batting just .224 across 115 games between Atlanta and Miami. He's added 87 RBI, 54 runs scored and five stolen bases.
Aug 22 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went hitless in seven at-bats across the last two games, but he hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth inning during Sunday's low-scoring win. Since the 32-year-old was traded to Atlanta, he's slashed .197/.307/.447 with five home runs, 18 RBI and 11 runs in 21 games.
Aug 19 2021Duvall went 1-for-2 with a double, three walks and three RBI in Wednesday's 11-9 win over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After tacking on three RBI in the series finale, Duvall is now just two shy of matching former Marlins teammate Jesus Aguilar for the National League lead in the category (86). Though Atlanta is soon expected to get trade-deadline pickup Eddie Rosario (abdomen) back from the injured list, he's more likely to challenge Jorge Soler and Joc Pederson for playing time than Duvall, who has posted a .793 OPS in 18 games since being acquired July 30.
Aug 17 2021Duvall went 1-for-5 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's 12-2 rout of the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He launched his 27th homer of the season off Paul Campbell in the fourth inning, part of a seven-run outburst by Atlanta. Duvall has supplied his expected power since being traded from Miami at the deadline with five long balls and 13 RBI in 16 games, but his .203/.299/.492 slash line during that stretch highlights the veteran slugger's limitations.
Aug 15 2021Duvall went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 12-2 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old was responsible for two of Atlanta's six extra-base hits on the day. Though Duvall's all-or-nothing approach has saddled him with a .209 average, he's made his nine hits this month count, leaving the yard four times while plating 10 runs. He'll stick in the lineup for Sunday's series finale, starting in left field and batting sixth.
Aug 10 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall slammed a two-run shot off Sonny Gray in the fourth inning to tie the game. The new Atlanta outfielder has homered in back-to-back games seven times this season. He has three long balls and 10 RBI in 10 games with his new team. On the season, he is slashing .229/.282/.481 with 25 homers, 78 RBI and 46 runs in 379 plate appearances.
Aug 8 2021Duvall went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-4 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder's sixth-inning blast gave Atlanta just enough offense to stave off Washington's comeback. Duvall has homered twice and driven in seven runs through seven games in August. He's collected 24 long balls, 76 RBI, 45 runs scored and five stolen bases through 100 games between Atlanta and Miami this year.
Aug 6 2021Duvall went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBI in Friday's 8-4 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first inning, and he added an RBI double in the fifth. This was Duvall's first multi-hit effort in seven games since he was traded from Miami to Atlanta. The 32-year-old has seen his slash line sag to .228/.283/.470 across 368 plate appearances, but he's been productive in the counting stats with 23 home runs, 74 RBI, 44 runs scored and five stolen bases this season.
Aug 5 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in a win over St. Louis on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's two-run shot in the sixth inning turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead for Atlanta. The long ball was his first since being traded to Atlanta on July 30, and he has gone 3-for-18 with three RBI and a 2:6 BB:K since rejoining the team.
Jul 30 2021Duvall is starting Friday against Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was traded from the Marlins to Atlanta on Friday, and he was able to join his club in time to start at home against the Brewers. The 32-year-old will likely serve as Atlanta's primary left fielder.
Jul 24 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Joe Musgrove deep in the second inning to get the Marlins on the board, but they were already in a 3-0 hole at that point. Duvall has been exactly as advertised for Miami this season, slashing .236/.281/.495 through 87 games with 22 homers -- his highest total since he launched 30-plus in back-to-back campaigns for the Reds in 2016-17.
Jul 21 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's loss against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall notched the second homer of his last three games with a sixth-inning blast off reliever Austin Voth, and the slugger now has 21 homers on the campaign, a figure that ranks among the top 10 in the National League. Duvall's 21 long balls represent his highest mark in that department since the 2017 season, when he finished the year with 31 homers on 157 games. The veteran is on pace to surpass that mark once the regular season comes to a close.
Jul 18 2021Duvall went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had gone 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts in his first two appearances after the All-Star break, but he returned to form Sunday and blasted his 20th homer of the season in the third inning. The 32-year-old has started in just five of the last 10 games, and he's gone 5-for-17 with a home run, a double, four RBI, two walks and six strikeouts during that time.
Jul 16 2021Duvall isn't starting Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get a breather after he went hitless in three at-bats in Friday's matinee. Garrett Cooper will start in right field while Magneuris Sierra starts in left.
Jul 11 2021Manager Don Mattingly said Sunday after the Marlins' 7-4 win over Atlanta that he expects Duvall (side) to rejoin the lineup for the start of the second half, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Intercostal soreness kept Duvall out of action in the series finale, but the issue is considered minor and should be resolved over the All-Star break. The Marlins called up Monte Harrison from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, but Mattingly suggested that Harrison's addition was merely for short-term insurance in the outfield.
Jul 10 2021Duvall exited Saturday's game against Atlanta with mild intercostal soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. He went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI before he was replaced by Jesus Sanchez in left field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The full severity of the issue isn't known at this point and the slugger will likely be further evaluated before a full diagnosis is given. He can currently be considered questionable for Sunday's series finale.
Jul 9 2021Duvall (illness) is batting cleanup and playing right field in Friday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old was out of the lineup since Monday with an illness, but he did pinch hit Tuesday and Thursday, striking out in both of his plate appearances. Duvall has hit .321 with seven home runs and 18 RBI in his last 53 at-bats.
Jul 8 2021Duvall (illness) will remain on the bench for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An illness has kept Duvall out of the lineup since Monday and will cost him at least one more game. Garrett Cooper will remain the right fielder in his absence.
Jul 7 2021Duvall's absence the past two games is due to his feeling under the weather, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There's been no indication of whether Duvall, hitting 8-for-17 in his last four starts, will return to the lineup Thursday afternoon against the Dodgers. Garrett Cooper, who homered twice Wednesday, figures to continue playing right field until Duvall is good to play again.
Jul 6 2021Duvall isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had crossed the plate in each of the last two games, and he went 4-for-8 with a homer, four RBI, two runs and a strikeout during that time. Garrett Cooper will take over in right field and bat third.
Jul 4 2021Duvall went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and a go-ahead three-run blast in the sixth against his former team. The three-hit effort was his second in the last four games. Duvall is up to 19 homers, 60 RBI, 36 runs scored and five stolen bases while slashing .230/.277/.490 across 278 plate appearances.
Jul 3 2021Duvall is not starting Saturday's game against the Braves, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has struggled against lefties to the tune of a .174 average this season, so he sits against southpaw Kyle Muller. The 32-year-old has been performing well of late, hitting .306 with six homers and 15 RBI in his last 14 games. Garrett Cooper will start in right field Saturday.
Jul 1 2021Duvall went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He launched his 18th homer of the year in the fourth inning off Aaron Nola. Duvall has gone yard in back-to-back games, capping a strong finish to June as he's slashed .325/.372/.825 with six long balls and 14 RBI over the last 11 contests.
Jun 29 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Marlins trailing in the ninth inning, Duvall helped spark a rally by taking Jose Alvarado deep with a 415-footer. It was the team-leading 17th long ball of the season for the 32-year-old, whose streaky month has lowered his slash line to .216/.265/.461.
Jun 27 2021Duvall is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Saturday to bring an end to a seven-game stretch in which he had a 1.260 OPS, four homers, 11 RBI and eight runs. Garrett Cooper will start in right field and bat cleanup for Miami.
Jun 19 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers, a stolen base and three total runs scored during Saturday's 11-1 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall belted two homers in Friday's series opener, and he succeeded in following up that performance Saturday. The outfielder added two more long balls -- both two-run shots off Jake Arrieta -- to bring his total to 16 on the campaign, while also swiping his fifth bag. While Duvall currently holds a subpar .220/.268/.477 slash line through 235 plate appearances this season, he's certainly a player that has the ability to go on a multi-week power surge, as displayed by his first two games at Wrigley Field this weekend.
Jun 18 2021Duvall went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, six RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 10-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games (12-for-39), but Friday's was by far the best performance in that span. Duvall slugged a grand slam off Zach Davies in the third inning and added a two-run blast in the seventh off reliever Dan Winkler. Duvall's recent surge has lifted his season slash line to .215/.264/.449 with 14 homers, 48 RBI, 26 runs scored and four stolen bases across 231 plate appearances.
Jun 16 2021Duvall isn't starting Wednesday's game against St. Louis, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get a breather after he went 2-for-10 with an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts across the last three games. Jesus Sanchez will shift to right field while Lewis Brinson starts in left.
Jun 12 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-2 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fourth-inning blast off Max Fried gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Duvall has gone deep three times in the last four games, giving him 12 homers and 41 RBI through 57 contests on the year despite a .205 batting average, and Saturday's steal was his fourth, leaving him two shy of his career high.
Jun 10 2021Duvall went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 11-4 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall opened the scoring in the second inning when he took Colorado starter Chi Chi Gonzalez deep. The outfielder has now hit safely in four straight games, including homers in each of the last two. He's slashing a poor .207/.252/.420, but he's provided solid counting stats with 11 homers, 39 RBI, 22 runs scored and three stolen bases in 206 plate appearances. Duvall's role as the starting right fielder should be a little safer as long as Garrett Cooper (back) is out.
Jun 9 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall took Tyler Kinley yard in the sixth inning to record his 10th home run of the season. He's now riding a very modest three-game hitting streak, but had gone 0-for-15 in a six-game stretch immediately prior. For the season, Duvall is now hitting .207/.254/.410 with 21 runs scored and 37 RBI.
Jun 6 2021Duvall is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall did not start Saturday's game, but he did later enter the contest as a pinch hitter. He struck out in his lone plate appearance and will now move to a bench role for the second straight game. Magneuris Sierra will get the start in right field for Miami.
Jun 5 2021Duvall isn't starting Saturday against the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had started each of the last four games and went 0-for-14 with two walks and seven strikeouts. Lewis Brinson will start in right field and bat seventh.
Jun 1 2021Duvall (side) is playing right field and batting fifth Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Side tightness has kept Duvall on the bench since May 27, but he returns for Tuesday's contest. The 32-year-old has historically excelled against left-handed pitchers, but he has yet to have such success this season. He'll have a chance to improve his .175 average against lefties in 2021 as he faces Robbie Ray on Tuesday.
May 30 2021Duvall (side) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was a late scratch from Friday's tilt and now he will be out of the lineup for the third consecutive game. It's unclear if the slugger could be an option off the bench in Sunday's series finale.
May 29 2021Duvall (side) isn't starting Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Don Mattingly said that Duvall was feeling better Saturday, but he'll still be held out of the lineup for a second straight game due to left side soreness. Magneuris Sierra will start in right field and lead off.
May 28 2021Duvall was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Red Sox due to left side soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall was slated to serve as the designated hitter Friday, but he'll be held out as a precautionary measure. Sandy Leon will take his place as the designated hitter and bat eighth.
May 26 2021Duvall isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had gone 2-for-7 with a three-run homer, two runs, a walk and a strikeout across the last two games. Garrett Cooper will start in right field and bat third.
May 24 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored Monday against Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall increased Miami's lead to six runs in the seventh inning with a three-run blast over the fence in left field. The outfielder is now 10-for-39 with three home runs, 12 RBI and a stolen base over his last 10 contests heading into the final week of May.
May 23 2021Duvall is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall started the first two games of the series but will take a seat for the finale versus the Mets. Garrett Cooper will work in right field Sunday for the Marlins.
May 20 2021Duvall isn't starting Thursday's game against Philadelphia, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will get a breather after he went 3-for-11 with a home run, five RBI and three strikeouts in the last three games. Garrett Cooper will start in right field and bat fourth.
May 16 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall took advantage of a Dodgers error and homered off Edwin Uceta in the fifth inning with two men on base. All three of the Marlins' runs Sunday were knocked in by Duvall. The 32-year-old is slashing .232/.263/.454 in 137 plate appearances. He has eight home runs, 28 RBI and 15 runs in 37 games for the Marlins this season.
May 15 2021Duvall is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has been seeing the ball well lately, hitting .324/.359/.595 with three homers and 11 RBI over his last 10 games. He'll get a rest Saturday, with Garrett Cooper starting in right field.
May 14 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a strikeout in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's third inning blast brought Miami within four and highlighted a four-run third innings. The first-year Marlin is second on the team in home runs and solely remains a power threat in fantasy.
May 10 2021Duvall isn't starting Monday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall had gone just 1-for-8 with an RBI and five strikeouts in the last two games. Garrett Cooper will start in right field and bat third.
May 6 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-handed hitter gave the Marlins a lead in the seventh inning with a solo shot off J.B. Bukauskas. It was the sixth dinger of the season for the journeyman and he is now slashing .200/.238/.430 in 2021.
May 5 2021Duvall went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 8-0 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall provided the biggest hit of the game with his homer in the second inning. He also added an RBI single in the seventh. Wednesday was his first multi-hit game since April 13, which was also the date of his last homer. For the year, the outfielder has five long balls, 18 RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base in a near-everyday role. He's slashing only .196/.235/.402 through 102 plate appearances.
May 2 2021Duvall is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall is 3-for-30 with 14 strikeouts over his past nine game and will head to the bench Sunday. Corey Dickerson (groin), Monte Harrison and Lewis Brinson will start from left to right in the outfield for the Marlins.
Apr 26 2021Duvall went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's lone production of the day came in the second when he led off the inning by reaching on an infield single and then later successfully stole second base. The 32-year-old is in the midst of a slump, as he's slashing .121/.121/.182 with one extra-base hit and a 0:13 BB:K over his last nine games.
Apr 24 2021Duvall is not starting Saturday's game against the Giants, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall hits the bench after starting seven straight games. He hasn't gotten off to a great start at the plate this season, hitting .203/.239/.469 through 67 plate appearances. Garrett Cooper starts in right field in his absence.
Apr 15 2021Duvall is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall is 7-for-14 with three home runs and eight RBI over his last four games. Garrett Cooper will start in right field and bat cleanup.
Apr 14 2021Duvall went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double, seven RBI and four runs scored in Tuesday's 14-8 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Things have come full circle for Duvall after the 32-year-old teed off against the Marlins last year for three home runs and nine RBI in the historic 29-run effort by the Braves. Duvall ended up being cut in December and ended up signing on in Miami for a one-year deal. He got revenge against his old ballclub after launching a solo home run to begin the third, a two-RBI double in the fourth, an RBI single in the sixth and a three-run dinger in the seventh to put the Marlins at 14 runs on the night. It's been an incredible turnaround at the plate for Duvall over the last few days after he began the year 2-for-21 with a home run and eight strikeouts through the first six games. He's now recorded a hit in three straight, including a home run in back-to-back, as he'll look to keep things rolling against Charlie Morton on Wednesday.
Apr 13 2021Duvall went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Monday's win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Facing the team for which he played 131 games over the prior three seasons, Duvall took Huascar Ynoa deep in the second inning for the Marlins' first run of the game. It was his second homer of the year, but both have been solo shots and Duvall hasn't driven in any other runs while hitting a paltry .160 (4-for-25) through nine games.
Apr 10 2021Duvall isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will take a seat for the second time in the last three games after he went hitless with a walk and one strikeout in three at-bats Thursday. Garrett Cooper will start in right field Saturday, batting fourth.
Apr 7 2021Duvall isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett Cooper will take his place in right field Wednesday, batting fourth.
Apr 3 2021Duvall will sit Saturday against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall started the first two games of the year but will sit Saturday despite a southpaw (Rich Hill) starting for the Rays. Lewis Brinson and Garrett Cooper will be the corner outfielders in his absence.
Mar 19 2021Duvall homered for the second straight game in Thursday's Grapefruit League contest against the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He hit cleanup in the game, a spot which could be Duvall's regular role once Opening Day rolls around as he takes over right field for the Marlins. The veteran slugger has hit just .167 (5-for-30) so far this spring with an 0:8 BB:K, but all five hits have gone for extra bases including three long balls, highlighting both Duvall's power and his batting average risk.
Feb 9 2021Duvall agreed to terms with the Marlins on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com, Duvall will make $2 million this season, with a $7 million team option and a $3 million buyout for 2022. He appeared on the verge of dropping out of the league after hitting a miserable .195/.274/.365 in 138 games in 2018. He didn't get a call-up the next year until late July, but he's had quite a renaissance since then, hitting .248/.307/.545 with 26 homers in 98 games over the last two seasons. While he hasn't landed in a particularly hitter-friendly park, the veteran outfielder could still be a cheap source of power for fantasy teams if he's given anything close to a true everyday role, though it's possible he slips into the short side of a platoon if he's unable to repeat his recent form.
Dec 2 2020Duvall was non-tendered by Atlanta on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Duvall logged a .295 ISO and 116 wRC+ last season, Atlanta has Cristian Pache and Drew Waters waiting in the wings as much more affordable options in the outfield. Duvall will likely draw interest on the open market, but he may have to settle for a one-year deal as he heads into his age-32 season. His market would tick up if the designated hitter remains in the National League next season. He finished the year on the shelf with an oblique injury.
Oct 13 2020Duvall (oblique) was removed from Atlanta's NLCS roster Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move appeared likely after Duvall left Game 1 on Monday with an oblique issue and seemed to be in a fair amount of pain. Postseason rules dictate that a player removed from the roster for one series will be ineligible to participate in the next, so Duvall won't be a factor in the World Series if the Braves manage to advance without him. Johan Camargo takes his place on the roster.
Oct 12 2020Manager Brian Snitker confirmed during Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers that Duvall suffered a left oblique injury, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall appeared to be in a lot of pain after a swing in the second inning, and while it hasn't been confirmed just yet, it seems likely that he'll miss the remainder of the series. "I think he did it pretty good," stated Snitker regarding his outfielder's injury. If the Braves elect to remove Duvall from the roster for the rest of the NLCS, he'd be ineligible for the World Series, per Buster Olney of ESPN.
Oct 2 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's win over the Reds in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Round. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning against Raisel Iglesias. The homer is his only hit so far this postseason in nine trips to the plate.
Sep 23 2020Duvall isn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall will take a seat for the first time in over two weeks despite recording hits in four of the last five contests. Nick Markakis, Ender Inciarte and Ronald Acuna will start in the outfield from left to right.
Sep 20 2020Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder's remarkable September continues. Duvall is now slashing .271/.346/.814 through 18 games on the month with 11 of his 16 homers on the year, and he's been a key figure for Atlanta as the team looks to lock up the NL East title.
Sep 16 2020Duvall went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Atlanta's 5-1 victory over the Orioles on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall continued his impressive power surge and has now hit 10 home runs in his past 15 games, which has fueled a massive .862 slugging percentage. He finds himself in the top 10 percent of the league for expected slugging and top five percent for barrel percentage. Those metrics reasonably foreshadow some sustainability for his current tear.
Sep 13 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and one strikeout in Sunday's win against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall has been on a power surge in recent contests, and he helped to chase starter Max Scherzer on Sunday with his home run in the sixth inning as part of a four-run rally in the inning. The 32-year-old now has nine home runs and 18 RBI over the past 12 games.
Sep 10 2020Duvall went 3-for-4 with three home runs, nine RBI, five runs scored and two walks Wednesday in the Braves' 29-9 victory over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's night started off with a two-run homer in the second. He followed that up with a three-run shot in the fifth and then a grand slam in the seventh to cap what was perhaps the best fantasy stat line of the season by any player. It's the second time the 32-year-old has slugged three home runs this season, as he previously achieved the feat Sept. 2 versus the Red Sox. Duvall has now slugged nine home runs to go with 17 RBI over his last 10 games.
Sep 7 2020Duvall hit a solo home run in his only at-bat Monday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch-hitter and tied the game with a solo home run. It was 10th long ball of the season, and second homer in his past three appearances. Overall, he's now hitting .265/.304/.573 across 125 plate appearances this season.
Sep 5 2020Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run Saturday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall took Erick Fedde yard in the fourth inning for his ninth home run of the season. He now has five home runs in his past six starts, three of which came on Sept. 2 against Boston. Overall, Duvall has shown plenty of power, as he's now slugging .550 across 119 plate appearances.
Sep 2 2020Duvall went 3-for-4 with three home runs, five RBI and three runs scored Wednesday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall popped a pair of two-run home runs and also a solo homer to power the Braves' offense Wednesday. He now has eight long balls for the season, four of which have come in his past three games. He continues to earn regular at-bats in left field and has been a decent source of power, as he now has a .270 ISO and .520 slugging percentage across 108 plate appearances.
Sep 1 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder took Colten Brewer deep in the fourth inning for his fifth homer of the year. Duvall has proven to be a reliable roster piece for Atlanta. but he hasn't exactly been a consistent difference-maker at the plate. Over his last 10 games, Duvall is slashing just .237/.310/.395.
Aug 30 2020Duvall (Achilles) went 1-for-6 with a run scored in Sunday's 12-10 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall's one-out single in the second inning sparked a run of nine straight batters reaching base. He scored on an Austin Riley double. The 31-year-old Duvall is slashing .241/.287/.414 with four homers, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored in 31 games this year. He should continue to split time with Marcell Ozuna in left field.
Aug 29 2020Duvall (Achilles) isn't in Saturday's lineup against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall left Friday's contest with a sore right Achilles, and he'll remain on the bench Saturday. Marcell Ozuna will start in left field while Matt Adams takes over as the designated hitter.
Aug 28 2020Duvall exited Friday's game against the Phillies with a sore right Achilles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall suffered the injury after hitting a single in the top of the fifth inning, and he was replaced by Ender Inciarte. Duvall is considered day-to-day. If he's forced to miss additional time, Inciarte and Charlie Culberson could see their playing time increase.
Aug 18 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Monday's 7-6 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Once again, the veteran outfielder came up with a dramatic hit. Atlanta entered the ninth inning down 6-3, but Duvall's two-run shot off Daniel Hudson set the stage for Dansby Swanson's walkoff blast. Duvall is now slashing .246/.290/.509 through 62 plate appearances with four homers and 11 RBI.
Aug 15 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His third homer of the year was a dramatic one. With the score tied 1-1 in the ninth inning, Duvall hooked a slider from Miami closer Brandon Kintzler into the left-field corner and clanked it off the foul pole for what proved to be the winning run. Despite the return of Nick Markakis, Duvall has maintained his spot in the starting lineup thanks to the availability of the DH, and it will be hard for manager Brian Snitker to send the veteran to the bench if he keeps delivering big hits like this.
Aug 9 2020Duvall went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI during the win in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in three consecutive contests, Duvall came off the bench for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader. However, he provided a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning that gave the team some insurance runs. Duvall's playing time could take a hit with Nick Markakis back in the fold for Atlanta, but he proved Sunday that he can still make an impact.
Aug 5 2020Duvall went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall accounted for all of Atlanta's scoring with his seventh-inning shot off right-hander Thomas Hatch. The Braves recently lost Matt Adams (hamstring) to the IL, but they got Nick Markakis (personal) back, so chances are Duvall will continue to start primarily against lefties.
Jul 26 2020Duvall is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He takes a seat with righty Rick Porcello on the mound. Marcell Ozuna will start in left field while Matt Adams starts at designated hitter. This could become a trend for the Braves against righties.
Jul 25 2020Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall knocked his first homer of 2020 against Mets starter Steven Matz in the second inning. Duvall's other run in the game came as he was the initial runner in the 10th inning and he scored on a Dansby Swanson single to put the Braves ahead 3-2. The 31-year-old Duvall figures to serve in a platoon with Marcell Ozuna in left field, but he's also capable of playing right field and should see near-everyday playing time.
Jul 24 2020Duvall isn't in the lineup for Friday's season opener against the Mets, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old appeared to have a chance to start Opening Day in left field with Marcell Ozuna potenitally being the designated hitter, but Ozuna is starting in left while Matt Adams serves as the DH. Duvall could be in the lineup for Saturday's matchup since lefty Steven Matz is taking the mound for New York.
Jul 5 2020Braves manager Brian Snitker mentioned Duvall, Austin Riley and Johan Camargo as possible first-base options in the event Freddie Freeman (illness) isn't available for the start of the season, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: One of four Braves players revealed Saturday to have tested positive for COVID-19, Freeman admitted that he was dealing with a high fever and body aches, which suggests he may require a longer recovery time than the other three players who have also gone into self-isolation. With Freeman's availability for the July 23 or 24 Opening Day game firmly up in the air, the Braves will work out multiple players at first base during summer camp. Duvall has worked almost exclusively out of the outfield since the 2015 season, but his prior experience as a corner infielder while coming up through the Giants' system at least gives him an existing familiarity with the nuances of first base. Duvall was already likely to benefit from a boost in playing time in 2020 with the implementation of the universal designated hitter, and a potential Freeman absence would only further aid his playing-time outlook and fantasy appeal. Duvall flashed some intriguing power in a backup role with the Braves in 2019, homering 10 times in just 130 plate appearances.
Jun 25 2020Duvall could form a platoon with Nick Markakis in left field and designated hitter this season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marcell Ozuna was expected to be Atlanta's left fielder this season, but with a DH now available to NL teams for 2020, Ozuna's shaky defense could limit his reps in left and open the door for Markakis and Duvall to platoon. As the right-handed hitter of the duo, Duvall's playing time would be limited, but he'd still see more action than he would have as purely a bench bat, which seemed to be the role he was headed for. Austin Riley could also factor into the LF/DH mix depending on how much action he sees at third base, however, and he would be a direct threat to Duvall's at-bats.
Mar 29 2020Duvall posted a .310/.394/.414 slash line through 33 plate appearances before spring training was suspended. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder didn't hit a homer, but otherwise he appeared to be on course for Opening Day before MLB was put on pause. Duvall is expected to be Atlanta's primary right-handed pinch-hitter this season, but he may not see many starts in a crowded outfield -- and there's still a chance he gets squeezed off the 26-man roster if the team elects to keep both Austin Riley and Johan Camargo in the majors, which would leave Duvall fighting with Charlie Culberson for the final spot on the bench.
Feb 20 2020The Braves plan to maximize at-bats for Duvall this spring, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Speaking to reporters Friday manager Brian Snitker said that veteran outfielders Nick Markakis and Marcell Ozuna will not play much to begin the exhibition season. As a result, Duvall will get plenty of opportunity to prove he should travel north with the team to begin the regular season. He'll be competing with the likes of Austin Riley, Johan Camargo and Austin Riley for a backup role on the outfield depth chart.
Jan 10 2020Duvall agreed to a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Braves on Friday, avoiding arbitration, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is his second year as an arbitration-eligible player. He will have two more years in the arbitration system before becoming a free agent after the 2022 season.
Sep 12 2019Duvall went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a pair of walks in Thursday's loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall brought the Braves within one with a two-run homer off Drew Smyly in the fourth inning. Across 29 games in the majors this season, the 31-year-old outfielder has tallied seven home runs while batting .256/.320/.533.
Sep 5 2019Duvall was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duvall is back with the big club after a minimum stay in the minors. He's slashing .241/.289/.494 with six home runs in 26 big-league games this season and should serve as outfield depth for the Braves down the stretch.

Jul 7 2018Duvall is out of the lineup against the Cubs on Saturday, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Duvall will take a seat following three straight starts as Jesse Winker, Billy Hamilton and Scott Schebler man the outfield. Across 31 games since the beginning of June, Duvall is hitting .247 with a .707 OPS.
Jul 2 2018Duvall is not in the lineup against the White Sox on Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.Duvall will get the day off while Jesse Winker draws a start in left field during the series opener. Jun 29 2018Duvall is not in the lineup against the Brewers on Friday.Duvall will take a seat following three straight starts, including an 0-for-4 showing with a pair of strikeouts during Thursday's series opener. With right-hander Chase Anderson on the mound, Jesse Winker will man left field and bat sixth.
Jun 25 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Braves.Duvall is riding a six-game hitting streak, but with him also hitting just .185 against right-handers this season, he will be held out Monday against stingy righty Mike Foltynewicz. Jesse Winker will man left field for the Reds in Duvall's place.
Jun 20 2018Duvall is not starting Wednesday against the Tigers.Despite going 3-for-4 with a walk and a pair of run-scoring doubles in Tuesday's series-opening win, Duvall will hit the bench for Wednesday's series finale. Jesse Winker and Scott Schebler will man the corner outfield spots in this one.
Jun 12 2018Duvall is starting at first base Tuesday night in the Reds' game against the Royals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. The Reds are taking advantage of interleague play to give Joey Votto a day at DH, allowing all four of the Reds' outfielders a chance to be in the field, and Duvall is the only one of the four with first base experience.
Jun 10 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.Duvall will find himself on the bench for the third time in the past five games as the Reds close out their weekend series against Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals. Duvall is hitting .238 with a 1:7 BB:K rate in 21 June at-bats and will give way to Jesse Winker in left field in the series finale.
Jun 6 2018Duvall is out of the lineup against Colorado on Wednesday.Duvall will hit the pine while Jesse Winker gets another start in the outfield with right-hander Jon Gray on the mound for the Rockies. Over the course of 60 games this year, Duvall is hitting .183/.266/.387 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI.
Jun 1 2018Duvall is out of Friday's lineup against the Padres. He will head to the bench against righty Walker Lockett, with Jesse Winker starting in left field and leading off. Duvall is hitting .182/.238/.356 with five home runs and 41 strikeouts in 132 at-bats against righties this season.
May 30 2018Duvall went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks. The homer was a pivotal one, as it erased a 4-0 deficit in the eventual 7-4 victory for Cincinnati. The power and run production are still there, as his 10 homers and 32 RBI put him about on line for another 30-home run, 100-RBI campaign, but he's been struggling otherwise. The 29-year-old is striking out at a 27 percent clip and is slashing just .181/.270/.401.
May 27 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.Duvall is hitless in his last 19 at-bats and will be given the afternoon off against German Marquez and the Rockies. The left fielder will look to reset prior to Monday's game against the Diamondbacks. Jesse Winker draws the start in his stead.
May 25 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies.Duvall has eight strikeouts in 12 at-bats over his last three starts as his season-long struggles continue, with his slash line now at .177/.276/.399 in 181 plate appearances. Jesse Winker will once again start in left field and bat leadoff for Cincinnati.
May 23 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates.Duvall is hitting just .183 on the season, though his nine homers have salvaged some of his fantasy value. His batting average has been hit hard by his .194 BABIP, and there's little reason to believe he deserves such a low figure. His hard contact rate is up to 40.2 percent after sitting at 31.8 percent for his career, and his groundball and flyball rates have hardly changed. He'll never be a high batting average guy, but his expected average sits at .243 according to Statcast, so there's reason to believe he'll turn things around. Jesse Winker starts in left field Wednesday.
May 19 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Cubs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.Duvall will retreat to the bench following six straight starts, going 7-for-20 with three home runs and seven RBI during that span. In his place, Jesse Winker will man left field and bat atop the Reds' order. Expect to see Duvall back in the lineup for Game 2.
May 18 2018Duvall went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-1 loss to the Cubs. His fifth-inning shot, Duvall's ninth homer of the season, ruined the Cubs' shutout bid but otherwise didn't make much difference. The slugger now has three home runs in the last four games, and his .313 (10-for-32) batting average over his last 11 contests is a vast improvement on his .194 mark for the year.
May 16 2018Duvall went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Giants.Duvall's three-run blast helped the Reds run out to a four-run first inning, giving them a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the 6-3 win. The 29-year-old is still batting a meager .191, but he may slowly be starting to break out of his season-long slump. He has three multi-hit efforts in the last five games, and has gone deep twice with six RBI over the last three.
May 14 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Monday against the Giants.Duvall will head to the bench for the second time in four games while Jesse Winker picks up another start in left field in his stead. The 29-year-old, who is hitting just .174/.264/.374 this season, could continue to see a slight drop in playing time against right-handed pitchers as the Reds look to get Winker everyday at-bats.
May 11 2018Duvall is out of Friday's lineup against the Dodgers. While Duvall has only been out of the lineup three times in the last 17 games, it should not come as a surprise if he eventually starts sitting semi-regularly against right-handed pitchers. He has a career 108 wRC+ against southpaws (eight percent above average) and a 93 wRC+ against righties (seven percent below average), and Jesse Winker needs reps against righties and lefties alike. Winker is leading off and starting in left field against righty Kenta Maeda, and Duvall will likely be an option off the bench.
May 9 2018Duvall is out of the Wednesday's lineup against the Mets, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.Duvall will spend the afternoon on the bench after starting the opening two contests of this three-game set. Jesse Winker will take his place in left field and bat atop the Reds' order.
May 9 2018Duvall hit a walkoff homer in his only at-bat Wednesday against the Mets.Duvall entered the game in the ninth inning as part of a double switch and ended things in the bottom of the 10th with what was the first walkoff blast of his career. Hopefully this will help get the 29-year-old going at the plate, as he's hitting just .176/.261/.395 through 36 games to start the season, though he does have six homers.
May 6 2018Duvall is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Marlins.Duvall's absence will break a streak of four consecutive games in the starting lineup, over which he's gone just 1-for-14 at the plate. His season hasn't gone much better, as the 29-year-old owns just a .611 OPS despite launching five home runs. He'll get a day off to hopefully hit the reset button, while Jesse Winker mans left field in his stead.
Apr 30 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.Duvall will head to the bench for what appears to be a regular day off after starting each of the previous seven games in left field and going just 5-for-26 (.192) over that stretch. Jesse Winker will start in left field and hit leadoff in his stead.
Apr 29 2018Duvall went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Twins.Duvall hit his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning to provide the finishing touches to the Reds 8-2 win. It was his first home run since April 15, though he had shown signs of breaking out of his season-long slump with three doubles over his past two games. An asset nearly entire due to his power production, Duvall has slugged just .385 through 96 at-bats this season. Some patience is warranted in most leagues, however, as he has slugged .480 and .495 respectively over his past two seasons.
Apr 23 2018Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, a run and two walks in Cincinnati's 10-4 win over Atlanta on Monday.Duvall was able to snap a 1-for-15 skid with the run-scoring double, a welcome sight in the midst of what has been a rough start for the outfielder. He's still slashing just .178/.238/.370 but Duvall is coming off back-to-back 30-homer seasons, so hopefully this was a sign he's getting back to that form.
Apr 22 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.Duvall will make his way to the bench for the first time since April 11. The left fielder pieced together a four-game hit streak last week but is now just 1-for-15 in his last four starts. He'll be replaced by Jesse Winker in left field.
Apr 17 2018Duvall doubled twice as part of three-hit night in the Reds' 10-4 victory over the Brewers on Monday. He scored once and drove in a run across five plate appearances.Four of Duvall's seven extra-base hits on the season have come in the last two games, offering optimism for fantasy owners in shallower mixed leagues who might have thought about cutting the outfielder amid his rough start to 2018. Duvall is worth keeping active for the moment now that his bat is beginning to heat up, but his long-term outlook is still somewhat muddled. Jesse Winker (shoulder) could be ready to reenter the lineup Tuesday and Scott Schebler (elbow) is rapidly closing in on a return from the 10-day disabled list, which may soon result in Duvall losing out on a couple starts per week.
Apr 15 2018Duvall went 2-for-4 and hit a home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.Duvall hit his third home run of the year Sunday, as he looks to be getting into rhythm at the plate. While his batting average sits at a dismal .160 for the year, the 29-year-old has collected a hit in three consecutive games.
Apr 11 2018Duvall is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies.Jesse Winker and Phillip Ervin will man the outfield corners. Duvall is off to a very slow start this season, hitting .111/.154/.306 through 10 games. Some of that line can be attributed to a .105 BABIP, but he's also striking out 41 percent of the time.
Apr 2 2018Duvall will start in left field and hit sixth Monday against the Cubs.Duvall was initially expected to open Monday's contest on the bench, but a spot in the lineup opened up after Scott Schebler was scratched with elbow soreness. The 29-year-old is 2-for-9 (.222) with four RBI through three games (two starts) this season.
Apr 2 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. After starting the previous two games, Duvall will head to the bench Monday as manager Bryan Price continues to rotate his outfielders around. In his place, Jesse Winker will start in left field and occupy the leadoff spot.
Mar 31 2018Duvall went 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Nationals. After sitting on the bench on Opening Day, Duvall batted sixth and played left field Saturday. He knocked in Eugenio Suarez with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly and added a two-run homer off of Matt Grace in the eighth inning, bringing the Reds to within four. The Reds are likely to rotate four outfielders through three spots, and the exact playing-time breakdown is not yet clear.
Mar 30 2018Duvall is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals. The right-handed Duvall is likely to sit against against tough righties, and Friday's opposing pitcher Max Scherzer is perhaps the toughest of them all. Duvall had a fairly significant platoon split last season, posting a 134 wRC+ against lefties but a 86 wRC+ against righties. He's a good enough hitter that he certainly won't sit against all righties, but the Reds will want to get lefties Scott Schebler and Jesse Winker into the lineup regularly. The playing time battle here will be one to watch in the opening weeks of the season.
Feb 19 2018Duvall could spend more time on the bench in 2018 now that the Reds plan to employ a four-man rotation in the outfield, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. The biggest wild card in this situation was outfield prospect Jesse Winker, but he seemingly solidified his roster spot after a strong showing at the tail-end of 2017. This means that Duvall will need to split time in the corner outfield spots with Winker and Scott Schebler. If there's one thing going for Duvall, it's that he is an imminent power threat thanks to back-to-back 30 home run seasons. His strikeout rate remains lofty, however, so he could ride the pine a bit more if he gets into a slump at the plate.
Sep 29 2017Duvall is not in the lineup against the Cubs on Friday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.Duvall retreats to the bench after starting the past six games, while going .188/.364/.188 from the plate during that span. Jesse Winker will draw the start in left field in his stead.
Sep 21 2017Duvall is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.Duvall is 0-for-12 with six strikeouts over his previous four starts, so he'll head to the bench for Thursday's series finale to clear his head. In his place, the Reds will send out an outfield of Jesse Winker, Phillip Ervin and Scott Schebler (from left to right).
Sep 9 2017Duvall is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Consider this a routine day off for the 29-year-old until there's something to suggest otherwise. Phillip Ervin will man left field in place of Duvall, who has gone 6-for-30 with one extra-base hit and nine strikeouts to begin September.
Aug 31 2017Duvall is not in the Reds' lineup Thursday against the Mets. He'll park on the pine with Patrick Kivlehan taking his place in left field. If he doesn't wind up with pinch-hit duties Thursday, Duvall will wrap up an eight-homer August that otherwise was a bit rough (.209/.258/.461), but his 31 blasts on the season confirm last year's breakout was no fluke.
Aug 30 2017Duvall went 1-for-5 with his 31st homer -- a three-run blast -- against the Mets on Tuesday. He'd gone just 2-for-22 with nine strikeouts over his last five games, so this was a welcome effort for Duvall's fantasy owners. Duvall's done well to build on last year's surprising age-27 breakout, as he's on pace to exceed his 2016 homer and RBI totals (33 and 103, respectively; he's at 89 RBI now).
Aug 17 2017Duvall hit a two-run home run in a pinch-hit appearance in the eighth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.Duvall didn't start Wednesday, but his two-run shot tied the game in the top of the eighth inning. He's now up to 28 homers, 83 RBI and 61 runs with a .262/.314/.530 slash line, which is a solid follow up to last season's breakout campaign. The slugger's also shown growth at the plate, as his OPS is 49 points higher than his 2016 mark.
Aug 16 2017Duvall is out of the lineup against the Cubs on Wednesday.Duvall receives a rare day off after 21 straight starts, slashing .224/.287/.529 with seven home runs and 16 RBI during that span. In his place, Scooter Gennett moves to left while Jose Peraza draws a start at second base.
Aug 13 2017Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Brewers.Duvall homered for the second consecutive contest, giving him 60 long balls since the start of last season. The soon-to-be 29-year-old took a while to get regular playing time in the majors, but always showed the capability to produce elite power at every level. Duvall's inclusion in the trade has already more than justified Cincinnati's 2015 decision to deal starter Mike Leake to the Giants.
Jul 29 2017Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Saturday's loss to Miami. This was the third homer in four games for Duvall, so the slugger appears to be kick-starting another power outburst. He's had a number of real droughts this season and inconsistency is part in parcel to his game. Duvall still sports a rock-solid .269/.321/.535 slash line with 23 homers, 71 RBI, five stolen bases and 52 runs for the campaign.
Jul 24 2017Duvall is not in the lineup Monday against the Indians.Duvall started the past 14 games, but he's batting just .214 with 20 strikeouts in that span. He'll hit the bench for a night off, allowing Patrick Kivlehan to log a start in left field for the evening.
Jul 6 2017Duvall went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer and two RBI Thursday in Colorado.Duvall drove in Scooter Gennett with a two-out double in the fifth then launched his 20th long ball of the season to lead off the eighth. The 28-year-old slugger is well on his way to surpassing last season's breakout total of 33 home runs, and already sits just six shy of his 31 doubles from that campaign. Owners have to be thrilled with his .280/.325/.564 line three games before the All-Star break.
Jul 5 2017Duvall is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.Duvall has started the past 22 games for Cincinnati, so the Reds will give him a well-deserved night off. Scooter Gennett will man left field for the evening to replace him.
Jun 30 2017Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs Friday against the Cubs.Duvall smashed his 19th homer of the season to give the Reds a three-run lead in the fourth inning of a winning effort. The fourth-year veteran is having an excellent follow-up to his breakthrough 2016 campaign, as he's currently posting career-highs in each of the slash line categories, and he's been an elite fantasy option this season.
Jun 28 2017Duvall went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI against the Brewers on Wednesday. His RBI single in the bottom of the eighth made the difference in the game and lifted Duvall's batting average to .284, its highest point since April 18. A one-dimensional slugger last year, Duvall has refined his approach this season, trimming his strikeout rate a bit and hitting more line drives while maintaining his power output.
Jun 27 2017Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the Brewers. It's his 17th homer of the year but just his third in June, although Duvall has maintained his fantasy value by hitting .305 (25-for-82) on the month. The 28-year-old now sports a career-best .874 OPS and appears set to top last season's breakout performance.
Jun 18 2017Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 8-7 loss to the Dodgers. With 16 homers just over 40 percent of the way through the season, Duvall looks well on his way to match or surpass the 33 he posted during his breakout 2016 campaign. The fact that Duvall has improved on his already impressive slugging is perhaps less surprising than the fact that he's done so while maintaining a .275 batting average, good for fourth among the team's regulars. Duvall has been the beneficiary of a .312 BABIP that's more than 30 points higher than his career mark, but even with some regression baked in the rest of the way, he looks like he'll be less of a liability in batting average than most predicted heading into the season.
Jun 11 2017Duvall (illness) is playing left field and batting cleanup during Sunday's game against the Dodgers.Duvall was forced to miss each of the team's past two contests as he battled with an illness. He's apparently feeling better as he's slotted in as the Reds' cleanup man for Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers.
Jun 10 2017Duvall (illness) is not in Saturday's lineup for the second straight game.Duvall missed Friday's game with an illness and will be out of the lineup again as Scooter Gennett mans left field against the Dodgers. There is a possibility that Duvall could come into the game off the bench, but the 28-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now.
Jun 9 2017Duvall is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers.Duvall doubled in the past two games and is hitting .333 over the past two weeks, but he'll get a night off Friday. Patrick Kivlehan will take over in left field for the evening.
Jun 6 2017Duvall is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.Duvall has been on a tear as of late, producing a 1.013 OPS with four home runs over the last 10 games, but he'll get a breather Tuesday night. Scooter Gennett will take over in left field.
May 28 2017Duvall went 3-for-4 with two two-run home runs, two runs scored and five RBI in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Phillies. The two homers move his season total to 13, and Duvall is now second on the team behind Scott Schebler (15). That now makes four homers for Duvall in the last four games, and he's hitting .274 with 43 RBI in 202 plate appearances, which is elite power production for a fantasy outfielder. Continue to ride his hot bat and enjoy the long balls. The 25-year-old is proving that his 33-dinger campaign last year was no fluke.
May 26 2017Duvall went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs Friday against the Phillies.Duvall's 11th blast of the year extended the Reds lead in the first inning of the game in which they'd never trail. He's homered in each of his last two games, and his solid .270/.314/.522 slash line has made him a strong fantasy option.
May 18 2017Duvall went 1-for-4 with two RBI during Thursday's loss to the Cubs. After a breakout 2016 campaign, Duvall has followed it up nicely this year. He's up to a .260/.305/.513 slash line with nine home runs, 29 RBI and 21 runs while providing a solid fantasy floor hitting in the middle of a strong Cincinnati lineup.
May 7 2017Duvall went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs during Saturday's win over San Francisco. The outfielder has now recorded exactly two hits in each of the past four games while totaling three runs, four extra-base hits and four RBI. Duvall is up to 20 runs, nine home runs and 24 RBI for the season with a .277 batting average and .932 OPS. His improved consistency of late is especially encouraging, though. The slugger's .297 on-base percentage and 27.0 strikeout percentage last year hindered his upside and reliability.
May 7 2017Duvall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.Duvall is proving that his breakout 2016 campaign was no fluke, as the 28-year-old is hitting .277 with nine home runs and 24 RBI through his first 29 games played. After notching eight hits in his past four games, the left fielder will get a well-deserved day off Sunday. Scooter Gennett will fill his void in the lineup, but expect Duvall to be back out there Monday against the Yankees.
Apr 30 2017Duvall went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.Duvall's line for the month of April (.247/.292/.551) is representative of what a number of the Reds have been doing. They have five starters slugging more than .500, but also three starters with OBP's lower than .300. They banged out 16 hits on Sunday, however, enough to win the game and split the two games with the Cardinals.
Apr 26 2017Duvall went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's loss to Milwaukee. It's been a feast-or-famine start to the season for Duvall, and he's gone 6-for-45 (.133 batting average) over his past 12 games with four home runs and 13 strikeouts. His .304 ISO and .341 wOBA this year are admirable marks, but his .279 on-base percentage and 25.6 strikeout percentage reinforce his inconsistency at the dish.
Apr 23 2017Duvall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.Duvall has scuffled at the plate recently, collecting just five hits over his past 37 at-bats. He'll get the day off Sunday with the hopes of getting back on track Monday against the Brewers. Scooter Gennett will draw the start in left field Sunday.
Apr 21 2017Duvall went 1-for-5 with a solo homer and a steal in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs.Duvall's fifth homer of the campaign gave the Reds a 5-2 lead that looked like it might hold up until the Cubs came up with three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game in an eventual losing effort. After crushing 33 homers with a .241 batting average in 2016, he looks to be setting up for a similar type of season with his performance in April.
Apr 18 2017Duvall went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a double and five RBI against the Orioles on Tuesday. He followed up his first-inning sac fly with a second-inning bomb, continuing Duvall's strong start to the year. The 28-year-old has carried forward last year's power breakout by homering four times in 14 games. While you can't have great expectations for him in terms of batting average because he strikes out a lot, Duvall got a bit unlucky in the BABIP department last season, posting a .275 mark. Improved fortune could reasonably lead to him hitting .260-plus to go with a run at another 30-homer campaign.
Apr 15 2017Duvall is not in the Reds' starting lineup for Saturday's matinee against the Brewers, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.Duvall gets his first day off this season after opening on a .286/.348/.548 tear with three home runs. Scooter Gennett will man left field in his absence.
Apr 10 2017Duvall went 3-for-4 with a walk and a homer in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.Duvall's stat line to begin the season is .348/.375/.696, with two homers and four RBI. About the only negative is that he's had just that one walk from Sunday as opposed to seven strikeouts. That strikeout rate (29.2 percent so far) is in line with his career norms.
Feb 17 2017Duvall is slated to hit cleanup according to manager Bryan Price, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Duvall did little to help with batting average and OBP but was a breakout bopper with 33 home runs, 103 RBI and 85 runs scored in 2016. There'll be a slight drop-off in each of those, and an extended slump may jeopardize his playing time, but fantasy players can find value in his lumber during the middle rounds of mixed drafts.
Oct 3 2016Duvall went 1-for-3 with a walk in the Reds' season finale Sunday, striking out once. He ended up hitting .241/.297/.498 in his first full season in the majors. He had 33 homers, 103 RBI, 85 runs with 41 walks and 164 strikeouts.Your return on investment with Duvall was phenomenal, and the Reds also did very well in adding him for two months of Mike Leake from the Giants, especially when you factor in Duvall's high defensive marks in left field. This is probably as good as it gets for Duvall, who turned 28 in September. But the Reds will have him under cost control for the next two years while they continue to build up their system.
Sep 27 2016Duvall homered twice, scored four runs and knocked in five in a 4-for-6 game Monday against the Cardinals.Duvall now has three multi-homer games this season and his five RBI marks his most of the campaign. He is hitting .242/.296/.505 this season, and despite his obvious power, his brutal 38:155 K:BB seems likely to restrict him to a role player, as he doesn't provide much when he isn't mashing the ball over the fence.
Sep 17 2016Duvall went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer during a 10-4 loss to the Pirates in the opening game of a doubleheader. The slugging outfielder took Jameson Taillon deep in the third with a 406-foot shot to left, cutting what was a Pirates' 6-0 lead in half at the time. Despite a wretched start to the month, Duvall has now hit safely in six of his last seven games, with three doubles, Saturday's homer, and five RBI over that span.
Sep 6 2016Duvall went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer in the Reds' 5-3 loss at the hands of the Mets on Tuesday.Duvall has now reached 30 homers at age 28 in his first full major league season. Although Great American Ballpark is traditionally known as a launching pad, Duvall has actually hit just as many homers on the road as he has at home in 2016. He hit 35 homers in 2015 between Triple-A, and Cincinnati, and will have a chance to equal that mark this year as we head into the final weeks of the season.
Sep 4 2016Duvall is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.Duvall has been a staple in the Cincinnati lineup, starting 13 straight games for the Reds since returning from a minor foot injury. He'll get the day off Sunday, however, giving way to Jose Peraza in left field.
Aug 21 2016Duval went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored Saturday versus the Dodgers.Duvall, who missed the last three games with a foot injury, wasted no time showing that he was feeling better by hammering his 28th homer of the season in the bottom of the first. During his first two MLB seasons combined, the 27-year-old played in just 55 games while amassing 137 at-bats. Through 100-plus games and 400-plus at-bats this year, Duvall is now on pace to challenged 40 home runs and 100 RBI in 2016.
Aug 20 2016Duvall (foot) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.A foul ball off the foot Monday led to a four-game absence, but evidently Duvall has regained enough strength and mobility in the foot to return to the field. Duvall has struggled to a .208/.304/.375 line so far this month but he still ranks inside the top-10 in the NL in RBI and top-five in home runs.
Aug 19 2016Duvall (foot) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Dodgers. He will miss his fourth straight game Friday as his bruised foot is still not fully healed. Tony Renda will start in left field an hit seventh in his stead. Duvall remains day-to-day for now.
Aug 18 2016Duvall (foot) is out of the lineup for a third straight day Thursday.Duvall is dealing with a bruised foot that leaves him day-to-day after fouling a ball off of his foot Monday. With him out of the lineup again, the Reds will send Tyler Holt out to left field in his place, batting eighth, while Duvall will aim to rejoin the lineup Friday.
Aug 17 2016Duvall is dealing with a bruised foot and is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Marlins. He is day-to-day after fouling a ball off his foot in Monday's game. The Reds will be deploying a Triple-A-caliber outfield Wednesday, with Tony Renda, Scott Schebler and Tyler Holt all slotting into the lineup against righty Andrew Cashner. Look for Duvall to return sometime before the end of the week.
Aug 16 2016Duvall is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins, according to Jamie Ramsey of MLB.com.Duvall went just 7-for-40 (.175) over his last 11 games, so manager Bryan Price decided it was time to give him a day to clear his head. Tony Renda will serve as the Reds' left fielder Tuesday evening.
Aug 2 2016Duvall went 2-for-4 with his 26th home run of the season Tuesday, scoring twice and driving in two as the Reds came from behind to beat the Cards 7-5.Duvall started the comeback with his two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh off Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist, answering a Jedd Gyorko homer in the top of the inning. After playing most of the season in left field, the 27-year-old Duvall got the start in right field because former right fielder Jay Bruce was dealt to the Mets on Monday. Duvall has hit for impressive power this season, with 71 RBI and a .537 slugging percentage to go with his 26 homers.
Jul 26 2016Duvall went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.Duvall delivered against his former team, snapping a 10-game homer-less drought in the process. Few would've picked the 27-year-old outfielder to be leading a Reds team with Joey Votto and Jay Bruce on it in homers at this stage, but that's exactly the case thanks to his 25 long balls. Just as it seemed like Duvall was starting to slow down offensively, he silenced the haters with another strong showing.
Jul 20 2016Duvall is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Braves. It looks like nothing more than a scheduled day off for Duvall, and it will be his first since before the All-Star break. Jose Peraza will take over as the left fielder Wednesday, and he'll bat seventh in the order against Atlanta's Lucas Harrell.
Jul 9 2016Duvall went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and three strikeouts in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday. That moves Duvall back into a second place tie with Nolan Arenado for most bombs in the National League with 23. It was Duvall's first homer of the month, and he is batting 7-for-29 (.241) during that stretch.
Jul 3 2016Duvall is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.Duvall filled in at first base for Joey Votto on Saturday, but prior to that, he had made eight straight starts in left field. Votto will return to action Sunday, and manager Bryan Price will elect to give Jose Peraza the start in left field over Duvall. It will be intriguing to see how Price handles his lineup moving forward, as Duvall has exceeded expectations offensively this season, but the team likely wants to find regular reps for the young Peraza as well.
Jul 1 2016Duvall went 2-for-6 with an RBI single and run in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Nationals. The slugger plated Joey Votto with a sixth-inning single to break a 1-1 tie, making it three straight games with an RBI. Duvall plated a whopping 26 runs in June, although he only hit .229 for the month overall. However, he does have three multi-hit efforts in the last five games, which may be an indicator that he's heating up at the plate again.
Jun 23 2016Duvall went 2-for-4 with his 21st homer of the year Thursday, a two-run shot against the Padres. He also struck out twice, which is unfortunate because Duvall had recently been doing an excellent job of making contact, striking out just four times in the prior nine games -- a big improvement from his whiff rate earlier in the season. Nonetheless, Duvall's come out of nowhere to become one of the leading power hitters in the National League, and he's showing no signs of slowing down. The average isn't much, but those homers and counting stats certainly do the trick in practically any fantasy format.
Jun 14 2016Duvall is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Braves.Duvall continues to have an impressive campaign, as he launched his 18th home run of the season Monday, but he'll head to the bench for his first day off in nearly a month. Kyle Waldrop, making his first career start, will take over in left field in his place and bat sixth.
Jun 13 2016Duvall continued to show prodigious power on Monday, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against the Braves.Duvall has been one of the premiere power hitters in the National League this season, launching 18 home runs and collecting 44 RBI. The 27-year-old is hitting just .240 this month, but his five home runs and 15 RBI in June make the lower average easy to stomach.
Jun 11 2016Duvall went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and run scored in Friday's 2-1 victory over the A's.The 27-year-old was involved in both of the Reds' runs on the night, a fitting development considering that he's been one of the Reds' hottest hitters over the last couple of weeks. Duvall plated Brandon Phillips with his seventh-inning two-bagger, and then subsequently scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Sonny Gray. The performance extended Duvall's hitting streak to eight games, and give him 12 RBI in just nine June contests.
Jun 5 2016Duvall went 1-for-3 with a go-ahead three-run homer and a walk in Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Nationals. The 27-year-old outfielder now has homers in three straight games, and his 407-foot blast to left proved to be the difference Saturday. Duvall's round-tripper off reliever Felipe Rivero plated Joey Votto and Jay Bruce, breaking a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning. He's on an astounding long-ball tear, having blasted homers in five of his last six games, while also tallying multi-hit efforts in five of his last nine contests. Duvall's 16 homers now lead the Reds, and his .619 slugging percentage is a testament to his considerable power.
Jun 3 2016Duvall went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Rockies. The home run was Duvall's 14th of the season and seventh in his last 11 games. He will have a great chance to keep the momentum going with the Reds set to begin a nine-game homestand Friday, although that's not to undersell what he's done away from Great American Ballpark (.269/.281/.591 on the road). Duvall has drawn all of six walks this season, but he's crushing same-handed pitching to the tune of a .596 slugging percentage.
Jun 3 2016Duvall went 2-for-4 with a double, solo homer and two runs scored in Friday's 7-2 victory over the Nationals. The emerging 27-year-old blasted 11 homers in May, and seems to be in the same mindset during the new month. Duvall has homers in two of the first three games in June, and multi-hit efforts in both of those contests as well. His 15 total roundtrippers lead the team, while he's third on the club with 32 RBI.
May 30 2016Duvall went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Monday's win over the Rockies.Duvall has been raging hot of late, going 7-for-17 with four home runs and 10 RBI in his last four games. After years of providing big power in the minor leagues, Duvall has finally found a foothold in the Cincinnati lineup. The outfielder is hitting .271 with 13 homers and 29 RBI for the season.
May 29 2016Duvall will start at third base Sunday against the Brewers.Duvall has not made a start in the infield yet this season, but the immense struggles of Eugenio Suarez have forced manager Bryan Price to explore some unorthodox options. A respectable .875 OPS has earned Duvall consistent playing time in 2016, so the Reds will give him a look at the hot corner while Tyler Holt gets the start in left field. If Suarez can't right the ship eventually, this lineup arrangement could be something Price considers once again, provided Duvall is not a defensive liability at third.
May 28 2016Duvall went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's 9-5 loss to the Brewers. The 27-year-old got things started for the Reds in the first inning with a 384-foot shot to left field off Zach Davies that plated Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce. The blast continues a long-ball tear for Duvall in May, as he's now launched eight homers during the month, and has driven in 17 runs in the process. An almost complete lack of walks (six) has kept his OBP down to a mediocre .293, but he's managed an impressive .556 slugging percentage due to the considerable pop in his bat.
May 28 2016Duvall went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run, four RBI, two runs and a strikeout Saturday against the Brewers. The 27-year-old continues to impress despite a lack of plate discipline. Duvall has brought seven runs to the plate in the last two games, and he's slugged an impressive .600 to go along with four homers and 10 RBI over the last 10 games.
May 24 2016Duvall is batting fifth in Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers.Duvall's move up is part of a big overall shift for the Reds, starting with Joey Votto moving to second, and everyone behind him moving up one spot. The players moving down in the order are the slumping Eugenio Suarez and Billy Hamilton, hitting sixth and seventh respectively.
May 23 2016Duvall went 1-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Mariners with a solo shot, his eighth home run of the season. He's emerged as a solid stick in left field, slashing .299/.324/.642 in 67 May at-bats with six home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. The rebuilding Reds have some outfield prospects knocking at the door behind Duvall, but as long as he keeps hitting he should remain in the starting lineup.
May 18 2016Duvall is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.Duvall has been swinging a hot bat in May, bringing his batting average up to .277 to go with seven home runs and 16 RBI on the season, but he hasn't sat for some time due to the recent surge. Tyler Holt will give him the day off Wednesday, batting seventh and filling in for him in left field.
May 17 2016Duvall hit a solo home run, his seventh of the season, in Monday's 15-6 loss to the Indians.Duvall is enjoying a nice surge at the plate, as he's collected eight hits over his past four games while driving in four runs and scoring four runs. The 27-year-old opened the season in a platoon with Scott Schebler, but with a .284 batting average and solid pop to boot, Duvall has established himself as a full-time player in the corner outfield.
May 5 2016Duvall went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs against the Brewers on Thursday -- his third homer in as many days. After homering in the latter two games of the series against the Giants, Duvall opened this four-game weekend set with Milwaukee by keeping his power bat going. The 27-year-old is drawing regular work in left field for the Reds, but his poor plate discipline (as embodied in his 5:27 BB:K and .289 OBP) cancels out much of the pop he provides. Still, at the very least, NL-only owners should be able to find a place for those homers.
May 3 2016Duvall (head) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.Duvall missed Monday's game with a head injury after running into the outfield wall in Sunday's game, but it appears that it was nothing major as he is back in the lineup. Duvall is hitting .221/.264/.412 with two home runs and five RBI through 21 games.
May 2 2016Duvall isn't starting Monday against the Pirates after running headfirst into an outfield wall Sunday, though manager Bryan Price said that the decision isn't entirely injury-related, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Scott Schebler, who had some big hits over the weekend, is getting the start over Duvall.
Apr 29 2016Duvall is out of the lineup Friday against the Pirates.Since being named the everyday left fielder, Duvall has gone hitless in three of his last four games. He also has 12 strikeouts over his last five games, so it makes sense that he will get a day to clear his head. Scott Schebler will start in left field and hit seventh Friday.
Mar 29 2015Duvall was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.Duvall was unable to lock down consideration for consistent reps at either corner infield spot during camp, but will likely be called upon if the GIants find themselves in need of an extra bat off the bench. A less-than-stellar .497 OPS during the spring certainly couldn't have helped his case.
Sep 1 2014Duvall will be recalled by the Giants on Tuesday.Duvall is a familiar face in the Giants' clubhouse, as he's already accumulated 61 at-bats in the majors this year, and has been with the team for the majority of August. He hit two long balls while with the club, and hit 27 total while with Triple-A Fresno. Duvall will provide corner infield depth for manager Bruce Bochy, as well as a power threat off the bench in pinch-hit situations.
Aug 25 2014Duvall was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Monday, MLB.com reports.Duvall has been one of the most fearsome sluggers in the PCL this season with 26 homers and 19 doubles over 86 games with Triple-A Fresno, but the success didn't translate during his limited time with the Giants. He's batted just .180 over 61 at-bats during multiple stints with the big club, resulting in his demotion back to the minors. He'll likely return to the big club at some point in September.
Aug 16 2014Duvall is out of the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Phillies.Travis Ishikawa will get the nod at first base against right-hander Kyle Kendrick, sending Duvall to the bench after four straight starts. Brandon Belt will see a concussion specialist next week and his status for a return remains uncertain, so the door is open for Duvall to continue seeing starts in the short-term.
Aug 10 2014Duvall was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports.Recurring concussion symptoms forced Brandon Belt back to the 7-day DL, and Duvall will up for the time being to help out around the corner infield.
