Jun 23 2023The Reds released Myers on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was DFA'd by the Reds on Tuesday upon returning from the 10-day injured list. Myers has played well-below his usual standard this season, recording just a .540 OPS through 141 plate appearances in Cincinnati. His previous history in the majors could be enough to at least get him a minor-league deal, but Myers would have to turn things around in a big way to have any fantasy value.
Jun 20 2023The Reds reinstated Myers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and designated him for assignment. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers landed on the IL on May 26 with kidney stones before also suffering a left shoulder sprain. The 32-year-old outfielder was slashing .189/.257/.283 through 141 plate appearances prior to getting injured and put up similar numbers during his rehab assignment, so the Reds will pass him through waivers and attempt to keep Myers in Triple-A.
Jun 11 2023Myers (shoulder) recently said that he could return from the 10-day injured list ahead of the Reds' series in Houston that begins Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers, who is working his way back from a left shoulder sprain and who also recently passed a kidney stone, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville this weekend and has gone 0-for-6 with a walk between his first two games with the affiliate. He looks as though he'll play at least a couple more games with Louisville before returning to the big club, though once he's activated, it's unclear if Myers will be in store for an everyday role in what's suddenly a crowded Cincinnati roster. Even before landing on the IL on May 26, Myers had mustered a measly .540 OPS through his first 141 plate appearances with Cincinnati.
Jun 9 2023Myers (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been out since late May with kidney stones and more recently a sprained left shoulder. He's eligible for activation at any time, but it's not clear how many rehab games he might require.
May 30 2023Reds manager David Bell revealed Tuesday that Myers (illness) suffered a left shoulder sprain last week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was placed on the 10-day injured list May 26 due to kidney stones, but Bell clarified Tuesday that the shoulder sprain -- suffered May 23 -- is what will keep him out through at least the early part of June. "He's healthy, the (kidney stone) has passed," said Bell. "The shoulder, which was initially our concern, is still a bit stiff."
May 26 2023Myers was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Reds on Friday with kidney stones, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It helps explain why Myers hasn't started a game in a few days. Presumably, he should be ready to go when his 10 days are up. Stuart Fairchild has been playing right field of late and Will Benson has been recalled to take Myers' spot on the roster.
May 24 2023Myers is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Nick Senzel, Jose Barrero and Stuart Fairchild will start across the outfield for the Reds. Luke Maile is taking a turn as the designated hitter. Myers has slashed just .189/.257/.283 through 37 games this season and could be at risk of losing playing time if his current prolonged slump continues. He had some decent spurts in April.
May 21 2023Myers is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will take a seat after he went 1-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Will Benson will replace him in right field and bat seventh in the series finale with New York.
May 13 2023Myers will sit Saturday against Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers hits the bench for the second time in three games. He hasn't exactly earned regular playing time this season, slashing .200/.259/.310 in 108 trips to the plate. Henry Ramos will be the right fielder Saturday.
May 11 2023Myers is not in the Reds' lineup Thursday versus the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had started four straight after returning from the injured list but will take a seat in this one. Henry Ramos is getting a start in right field.
May 6 2023Myers was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Saturday as expected and will bat seventh and play right field against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' time with the Reds hasn't gotten off to a great start, as he hit .222/.292/.321 in 23 games before coming down with COVID-19. He'll hope to get back on track now that he's healthy. Matt Reynolds was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
May 5 2023Myers (illness) said he's aiming to return to the Reds' lineup Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been away from the club since April 26 and revealed Friday that he was down with COVID-19. He's been cleared to be around his teammates again and seems likely to be activated for the second game of the Reds' three-game series against the visiting White Sox.
Apr 28 2023Myers (illness) is not in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was placed on the injured list Thursday with an undisclosed illness. He can be activated at any time -- it's the COVID IL, not the 10-day IL -- but it's unclear whether the 32-year-old even traveled with the Reds out to Oakland. Spencer Steer is playing first base Friday and Jake Fraley is in right field.
Apr 27 2023Myers was placed on the injured list Thursday, retroactive to April 26, with an undisclosed illness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was scratched from the Reds' lineup Wednesday and is now apparently looking at an extended absence, but he's on the COVID IL and not the 10-day IL, so he can be activated at any time. The exact nature of the ailment has yet not been specified.
Mar 3 2023Myers (back) is in the Reds' lineup for their Cactus League game against the White Sox on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had to be scratched from Wednesday's lineup with lower-back stiffness, but he's back in there Friday following the off day Thursday. He's playing right field in this one and should also see time at first base and in the designated hitter spot for Cincinnati this season.
Mar 1 2023Myers was scratched from the Reds' lineup for Wednesday's Cactus League game versus the Athletics due to lower-back stiffness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' back injury is believed to be a day-to-day concern, but the Reds could provide more on his condition after the game. Alex McGarry will start at first base in Myers' stead.
Dec 22 2022Myers agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the Reds on Thursday, which includes a mutual option for 2024, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Diego declined Myers' $20 million club option for 2023 at the end of the season, and he'll continue his career in Cincinnati. The 32-year-old was limited to 77 games last season due to a knee injury and had a .261/.315/.398 slash line. He split most of his playing time between right field and first base last year, but he'll likely work mostly in the outfield for the Reds with Joey Votto at first base.
Nov 7 2022Myers will become a free agent after the Padres declined to exercise their club option on his contract for 2023 on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In an expected move, the Padres decided to not pick up the $20 million option they had on Myers for the upcoming season and instead let him go free onto the open market. After signing a six-year, $83 million contract with San Diego in 2017, the outfielder will likely head elsewhere this offseason. Myers battled a right knee injury in 2022, limiting him to just 77 games. Over those contests, he produced a .261 average with seven homers, 41 RBI, 29 runs and two stolen bases while striking out 30.1 percent of the time.
Oct 22 2022Myers will sit for Game 4 of the NLCS against the Phillies on Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started Games 1 and 3 of the series, but it will be Brandon Drury at first base in Game 4, as it was in Game 2. Myers does have a solo homer this postseason, though he has just three total hits and 12 strikeouts through nine games.
Oct 19 2022Myers is out of the lineup for Wednesday for Game 2 of the Padres' National League Championship Series matchup with the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will exit the lineup for only the second time in the postseason, paving the way for Brandon Drury to pick up a start at first base. Thus far in the playoffs, Myers has gone 3-for-26 with a solo home run, one walk and 12 strikeouts.
Oct 4 2022Myers went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a 6-2 win against the Giants on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers struck out in each of his first three at-bats before singling home the final run of a four-run sixth inning and tacking on a solo shot in the eighth. After sitting for nearly the entirety of San Diego's previous series with the White Sox, the 31-year-old has responded by batting 4-for-8 with two home runs and five RBI over the two contests since.
Sep 25 2022Myers went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Sunday's victory over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With a ground rule double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third, Myers helped the Padres get off to a big lead, from which they did not look back. The big day at the plate comes as Myers is challenged for playing time with Brandon Drury healthy and producing again and Myers was just 1-for-9 in his previous three starts. He is slashing .255/.306/.379 with five home runs, 34 RBI and 27 runs scored through 265 plate appearances this season.
Sep 15 2022Myers is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old started the past seven games at first base and posted a .970 OPS with Brandon Drury (concussion) on the injured list, but Drury was activated Thursday and is back in the lineup. Myers is likely to see more limited action now that the Friars are healthier.
Sep 7 2022Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was hampered by neck tightness earlier in the week, but returned to the lineup Tuesday. He made an impact Wednesday with his fourth homer of the season, taking Arizona starter Tommy Henry deep in the fourth inning to give the Padres the lead for good. Myers has gone just 2-for-14 across five games to begin September. He's slashing .248/.295/.359 with 30 RBI, 22 runs scored, 11 doubles and no stolen bases through 59 contests overall. He should play against most southpaws and the some right-handers.
Sep 6 2022Myers (neck) is starting at first base and batting seventh Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was sidelined by neck tightness the past couple days but will rejoin the starting nine Tuesday. The 31-year-old has a .270/.329/.419 slash line with two home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in 25 games since he returned from a two-month absence due to a knee injury at the start of August.
Sep 5 2022Myers (neck) isn't starting Monday against Arizona, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers due to neck tightness and is considered day-to-day. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench during Monday's series opener against Arizona.
Sep 4 2022Myers (neck) said after Sunday's game against the Dodgers that he's considered day-to-day, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers departed Sunday's matchup due to neck tightness, but it seems unlikely that the issue will force him to miss significant time. The 31-year-old will presumably be monitored ahead of Monday's series opener against the Diamondbacks, but early reports regarding his injury are certainly encouraging.
Aug 28 2022Myers went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers knocked in Josh Bell on a two-run homer in the second inning. It was his second home run in consecutive games and his third on the year. Myers has six hits in his last 18 at-bats, taking his batting average from .248 to .254. He has also struck out seven times during that span. Myers has a propensity to strike out (he has more strikeouts than hits and walks combined this season), so his batting average upside is limited. However, he does appear to be getting his power stroke back after sitting on the IL for all of June and July.
Aug 27 2022Myers went 3-for-5 with a two-run double, a solo home run and two total runs scored in Friday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers doubled home Josh Bell and Brandon Drury in the first inning, then launched a solo shot in the third. He reached home in the seventh inning on an Austin Nola sac fly. The homer was Myers' second of the year and his first since May 13, although he missed all of June and July with a knee injury. The outfielder is slashing .296/.350/.426 in August, but he has more strikeouts than hits and walks combined this month. His season batting average now sits at .253 after Friday's three-hit game.
Aug 14 2022Myers went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was out of the lineup for four consecutive games ahead of Sunday's series finale in Washington, but he drew the start in left field Sunday and helped propel the Padres to the win. The 31-year-old has slashed .333/.367/.407 with two doubles, five RBI and two runs over nine games since the start of August, but his fantasy potential is limited due to his lack of playing time following the trade deadline.
Aug 9 2022Myers is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, according to Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started the last three games in center field, but Trent Grisham will be back in that spot Tuesday night. The Padres have now faced right-handed starters three times since both Juan Soto and Josh Bell made their debuts, and Myers has opened on the bench in each contest.
Aug 5 2022Myers is not in Friday's lineup against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was readily available at the trade deadline and nobody was willing to take on the remainder of his contract. He is hitting .232/.278/.297 with one home run in 36 games.
Aug 3 2022Myers isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started the last three games and went 2-for-10 with two RBI, a run, two walks and three strikeouts. Brandon Drury will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth Wednesday.
Aug 1 2022Myers (knee) went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Monday's 4-1 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers missed over two months with the knee injury. His RBI in this contest came on a groundout in the first inning. Eric Hosmer (neck) is day-to-day, which could allow Myers to be eased back into action by picking up starts at first base. Ultimately, it's expected Myers mostly plays in right field when the Padres are at full health. The veteran has a .236/.283/.307 slash line with one home run, 20 RBI, 13 runs scored and no stolen bases in 33 contests this year, so he could slip into a part-time role if he doesn't hit well right away.
Jul 30 2022Padres manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Myers (knee) will rejoin the Padres before the end of the team's series against Minnesota, which concludes Sunday, Allison Edmonds of KUSI Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been playing in minor-league rehab games for over two weeks, slashing .292/.320/.583 with four home runs, seven RBI and eight runs in 12 games between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Triple-A El Paso. The veteran has logged considerable time at first base during the rehab stint, and he could see more time at that position upon his return to the majors, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Melvin gave some insight about Myers' work at first, stating, "We're just trying to create a little bit more of a flexible and versatile roster."
Jul 25 2022The Padres are planning on keeping Myers (knee) on his minor-league rehab assignment for at least a couple more days, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both manager Bob Melvin and Myers feel that the 31-year-old can benefit from some more at-bats in the minors while he works to regain comfort in his right knee, an injury that has kept him on the shelf since June 3. He made the eighth appearance of his rehab assignment Sunday for Triple-A El Paso and has slashed .313/.353/.563 with two home runs during the minor-league stint. Once activated, Myers should displace Nomar Mazara as the Friars' primary right fielder.
Jul 22 2022Myers (knee) had his rehab assignment moved to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers hit .333 (6-for-18) with a pair of home runs in five rehab games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, and he singled in four at-bats in his first game with El Paso on Friday. The veteran outfielder was the designated hitter in all but one of his contests in Single-A, but he played first base for the Chihuahuas in his first game with the Triple-A club. Myers is expected to play with El Paso through the weekend before potentially returning to the Padres next week, per MLB.com.
Jul 17 2022Myers (knee) has gone 5-for-15 with two home runs, four RBI and five runs through four games in his rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has collected at least one hit in each of his four games thus far and has homered in each of his last two. The veteran has played center field in one of the contests and has been the designated hitter in the other three. Myers is expected to start at DH for the Storm again Sunday, and he could rejoin the Padres upon the conclusion of the All-Star break.
Jul 13 2022Myers (knee) went 2-for-4 with a run and a strikeout in a rehab appearance with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers collected a pair of singles in his first game action since May 31. The right fielder had at one point been considering surgery for the inflammation in his right knee, but the issue appears to have improved with an extended period of rest. Myers is likely to need at least a few more rehab appearances before he's cleared to rejoin the Padres.
Jul 11 2022Myers (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers went on the 10-day IL on June 3, and he's only recently been able to run the bases as a test of his right knee. The veteran last played in a game May 31, so he'll probably require a few rehab appearances before he's cleared to return to the Padres. Myers will likely retain his role as San Diego's starting right fielder upon his return, though he struggled to a .234/.276/.306 slash line over 134 plate appearances prior to landing on the injured list.
Jul 3 2022Myers (knee) has been running regularly and took batting practice Saturday, and Padres manager Bob Melvin said the outfielder could begin a rehab assignment during the coming week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been sidelined since early June after being diagnosed with right knee inflammation, but he was able to avoid surgery and looks to be close to starting up a rehab assignment. The veteran has dealt with the nagging injury throughout the first half of the season, which could be a factor in his mediocre numbers thus far. Myers registered a .234/.276/.306 slash line with just one home run, 19 RBI and no stolen-base attempts in 32 games prior to his placement on the injured list.
Jun 10 2022Myers (knee) won't undergo surgery and will instead opt for a plan that involves rest and rehab, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was optimistic that his right knee injury wouldn't require a procedure, and doctors officially recommended that he'll be able to rest and rehab over the next few weeks while his knee improves. The Padres said that the 31-year-old could have a rehab timetable as short as 3-to-4 weeks, but the outfielder will be deliberate in his recovery process to prevent any setbacks. However, Myers is hopeful that he'll be able to return to the field in under six weeks.
Jun 7 2022Myers is "leaning against" having surgery on his right knee in favor of a plan that includes rest and rehab, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers met with doctors Tuesday and is still awaiting their recommendation, but there appears to be optimism that his injured knee can improve without surgery. Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune previously reported that there were "differing opinions" within the organization about the best path forward for the veteran, who has been on the shelf since June 3. It isn't clear how long he'll be out under either scenario, but it's logical to expect that surgery would have a longer timeline for a return than rest and rehabilitation.
Jun 3 2022Myers was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with right knee inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move is backdated to June 1. Brent Rooker was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move and he may occupy the short side of a right field platoon with Nomar Mazara while Myers is sidelined.
Jun 2 2022Myers (knee) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game at Milwaukee, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old received a gel injection for his inflamed right knee after Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals, and he won't be in the lineup Thursday as originally expected. Despite that initial optimism, it's not a major surprise Meyers will be forced to miss at least one game while recovering from the injection. Nomar Mazara had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso and will make his debut for the Padres in right field.
Jun 1 2022Myers received a gel injection for his inflamed right knee following Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals and expects to rejoin the lineup Thursday in Milwaukee, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers sat out two straight games with knee inflammation, but he reclaimed his starting role in right field and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's loss. The 31-year-old seemed to suggest the gel injection was a pre-planned arrangement rather than the result of any setback he experienced, but he was still forced to the bench for Wednesday's 5-2 loss while he waited for the shot to take effect. If Myers ends up needing an extra day to recover from the injection, Jose Azocar could be in line for another start in the outfield Thursday.
May 31 2022Myers (knee) will return to the lineup Tuesday against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers missed the last two games while dealing with right knee inflammation, but he's ready to go after the brief break. He'll bat fifth and play right field, pushing Jose Azocar back to the bench.
May 30 2022Myers (knee) will sit Monday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will be on the bench for the second straight game while he deals with right knee inflammation. Jose Azocar gets the start in right field for the second straight game. Myers was reportedly available off the bench Sunday against the Pirates, so it's likely he's available in a similar capacity Monday.
May 29 2022Myers is considered day-to-day with right knee inflammation ahead of Monday's series opener against the Cardinals, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates after drawing 16 consecutive starts, and he didn't appear off the bench during the team's win over Pittsburgh. Manager Bob Melvin revealed after the game that Myers is dealing with a knee issue, but the 31-year-old would have been available off the bench if needed. If Myers misses additional time, Jose Azocar should see increased playing time in right field.
May 23 2022Myers went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI in a 10-1 victory versus San Francisco on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers set off the Padres' offensive outburst with a first-inning run-scoring single. He drove in two more runs in the fourth frame with a double to left field. This was Myers' second three-hit game of the season and fourth multi-hit performance over his past nine contests. Over that stretch, he is slashing .333/.375/.472 with a home run, 10 RBI and eight runs.
May 15 2022Myers went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored during Sunday's 7-3 win over Atlanta in extra innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old didn't have any extra-base hits Sunday, but he went 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position to help power San Diego's offense. Myers had a .527 OPS prior to landing on the injured list in late April with a bruised right thumb, but he's 6-for-21 with a home run, a walk, six RBI and four runs in five games since returning from the injury.
May 14 2022Myers went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 11-6 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His sixth-inning solo shot off Max Fried was Myers' first homer of the year in his 18th game, as a thumb injury has cost him significant time so far. His .235/.260/.324 slash line, six runs and 10 RBI are far from impressive, but if Myers is finally feeling 100 percent healthy, his numbers should begin to rise.
May 10 2022Myers (thumb) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been sidelined the past two weeks with a bruised right thumb, but he'll rejoin the active roster ahead of Tuesday's matchup with the Cubs. The 31-year-old is off to a slow start in 2022 with a .218/.254/.273 slash line and 32.2 percent strikeout rate through 15 games, and he has yet to hit his first home run.
May 5 2022Myers (thumb) is expected to begin hitting off a tee Thursday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has experienced a significant decrease in the swelling in his right thumb since landing on the shelf a week ago, and he could return as soon as the upcoming series against the Cubs, which begins Monday. However, he'll need to see how his body responds to the increase in activity, and it's also possible he'll require a brief rehab stint.
Apr 18 2022Myers (thumb) is starting in right field and batting sixth Monday against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has sat out the past three days while dealing with a thumb injury, but he'll rejoin the starting nine for Monday's series opener versus Cincinnati. The 31-year-old will attempt to pick up where he left off at the plate, as he was 5-for-12 with a double, three RBI and a run in the three games preceding his absence.
Apr 17 2022Myers (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll take a seat for the third day in a row on account of the thumb injury he developed coming out of a two-hit, two-RBI performance in Thursday's 12-1 win in the series opener. With Myers sidelined yet again, Matt Beaty will draw a second consecutive start in right field. Fortunately for Myers, a trip to the injured list doesn't appear to be in the cards at this stage, as AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports that the 31-year-old will be available off the bench Sunday.
Apr 16 2022Myers (thumb) remains on the bench for Saturday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Myers skipped batting practice Friday due to a thumb issue and didn't end up getting into the game. Whether or not he's available off the bench Saturday is not yet clear. Matt Beaty will pick up a start in right field.
Apr 15 2022Myers is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers hits the bench after starting in right field in each of the first eight games of the season. His bat has yet to get going, as he's hit .219/.242/.281 with 12 strikeouts and just one walk through 33 plate appearances. CJ Abrams will move out to right field Friday, with Ha-Seong Kim starting at shortstop.
Apr 13 2022Myers went 1-for-3 with a single in a 2-1 loss Wednesday in San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers singled in the fifth inning off Logan Webb and struck out in his other two plate appearances. The 31-year-old batted seventh and started in right field, where he has started every game this season. The 2013 Rookie of the Year has hit sixth or lower in the lineup in all but one game. He has now struck out in 11 of his 28 plate appearances (39.3 percent).
Mar 31 2022Myers is a candidate to back up Trent Grisham in center field this season, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers is slated to be the Padres' primary right fielder, but with the team lacking a clear backup in center, he could spell Grisham at the position when needed. Myers has started 97 games in center in his career, though he hasn't made any appearances there since 2019. Other candidates to see opportunities behind Grisham include Jurickson Profar and CJ Abrams.
Oct 2 2021Myers is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers hasn't found consistent playing time down the stretch, as he hasn't started more than two games in a row since Sept. 14. Jurickson Profar will be the right fielder this time around.
Sep 29 2021Myers is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has a .642 OPS and 34.8 percent strikeout rate in September and will take a seat for the second time in the past three games. Tommy Pham, Trent Grisham and Jurickson Profar will start from left to right in the outfield.
Sep 26 2021Myers will sit Sunday against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has struggled to a .184/.226/.265 line over his last 17 games, striking out in 41.5 percent of his trips to the plate. Jurickson Profar will be the right fielder Sunday.
Sep 23 2021Myers isn't starting Thursday's game against San Francisco, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has gone 0-for-6 with four strikeouts across his last two appearances, and he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games. Adam Frazier will shift to left field while Jake Cronenworth starts at the keystone.
Sep 21 2021Myers will sit Tuesday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started both weekend games against the Cardinals after sitting for the previous three. He'll head back to the bench here, with Jurickson Profar getting another start in right field.
Sep 17 2021Myers remains on the bench Friday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers sits for the third straight game, though he's appeared off the bench in each of the previous two, recording an RBI hit in both contests. Tommy Pham and Jurickson Profar remain the starting corner outfielders.
Sep 16 2021Myers will sit for the second straight game Thursday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has hit just .154 with a 40 percent strikeout rate over his last nine games. Tommy Pham and Jurickson Profar will again occupy the outfield corners Thursday.
Sep 15 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers is 3-for-25 with 12 strikeouts in his past eight games and will take a seat Wednesday. Tommy Pham will start in left field and bat fifth for the Friars.
Sep 5 2021Myers went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and an additional run scored in a win against the Astros on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers scored San Diego's first run after doubling in the second inning, and he added some late insurance with a two-run shot to left field in the seventh. The veteran's bat has come alive over his past 22 games -- over that stretch, he is slashing .328/.408/.612 with five homers, 10 RBI, 15 runs and two stolen bases.
Sep 2 2021Myers went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers launched a two-run homer off Noe Ramirez in the seventh for his only hit of the day. The 30-year-old is coming off a pretty solid month of August, during which he slashed .294/.385/.471 with three homers, eight RBI, 13 runs scored, two steals and 10:19 BB:K over 23 games. He's off to a nice start as the calendar turns to September and will need to be on top of his game if the Padres want to challenge the Reds for the second wild-card spot. For the year, Myers is slashing .262/.344/.448 with 16 homers, 55 RBI, 46 runs scored, eight steals and 47:134 BB: over 416 plate appearances.
Aug 28 2021Myers (hamstring) is starting Saturday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers didn't appear in either of the last two games due to a hamstring issue, but he'll start in right field and bat sixth Saturday. Prior to his injury, the 30-year-old had gone 4-for-13 with a double, a run, an RBI and there walks across his last five appearances.
Aug 27 2021Myers (hamstring) is not starting Friday against the Angels, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers left Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers after tweaking his hamstring, and he's now out of the starting lineup for the second day in a row. The club has not clarified the severity of the issue, but the fact that he hasn't been placed on the injured list would point toward him being day-to-day for the time being.
Aug 26 2021Myers (hamstring) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers left Wednesday's game early with a hamstring issue and will be absent at least one additional day. There's no word on how severe the injury may be, or whether he will require a trip to the injured list. Tommy Pham draws the start in left field in Myers' place and will hit fourth.
Aug 22 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 4-for-12 with two home runs, a double and three RBI while starting each of the past three games, Myers will take a seat for the series finale. He'll likely continue to rotate days off with Tommy Pham and Trent Grisham in the outfield the rest of the season now that shortstop Fernando Tatis has transitioned to an everyday role at Myers' old home in right field.
Aug 19 2021Myers went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in a loss to Colorado on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both of Myers' homers were 426-foot blasts, one of which went to left field and the other to center. He has been hitting well of late, going 7-for-17 with three long balls and five RBI over his past six games. However, the veteran has been losing playing time in the outfield since Fernando Tatis' return, dinging his fantasy value considerably.
Aug 15 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Fernando Tatis (shoulder) making his first career start in right field in his return from the 10-day injured list, Myers will head to the bench while Tommy Pham and Trent Grisham join Tatis in the outfield. The Padres could look to keep Tatis in right field on a permanent basis to limit the wear and tear on his dislocated shoulder, in which case Myers could be moved into more of a part-time role. Myers isn't regarded as a strong defender in the corner outfield, though he's at least helped his case at the plate of late by posting a respectable .732 OPS through his first 12 games of August.
Aug 14 2021Myers went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres managed only two runs in the contest, with both coming on Myers' game-tying homer off Madison Bumgarner in the seventh inning. The veteran outfielder also doubled and singled Friday for his first three-hit game since July 16. That July contest was also the last time Myers had gone deep before Friday, and he batted .226 with only two extra-base hits and three RBI across 23 games between the outings.
Aug 10 2021Myers went 2-for-2 with two runs, two walks and a stolen base in a 6-5 win against the Marlins on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers did a bit of everything Tuesday as he singled and scored in the second, walked and scored in the fourth, singled and stole second in the sixth and walked in the eighth. This was the outfielder's first game reaching base four times since May, his first game drawing multiple walks in nearly a month and his second stolen base since June 22.
Aug 4 2021Myers isn't starting Wednesday's game against Oakland, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers went 1-for-7 with two runs, an RBI, two walks and five strikeouts across the last two games. Jake Marisnick will start in right field and bat ninth.
Jul 31 2021Myers will be on the bench Saturday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers missed a brief period of time with hamstring tightness but has been back in action since Wednesday. Saturday's off day appears to be a routine one, with Jurickson Profar starting in his place in right field.
Jul 28 2021Myers (hamstring) is starting Wednesday's game against Oakland, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had been out of the lineup in each of the last two games due to hamstring tightness, but he appeared as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-2 during that time. He'll start in right field and bat sixth Wednesday.
Jul 27 2021Myers (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear whether Myers is still dealing with hamstring tightness, or if he's merely a casualty of Adam Frazier making his Padres debut in left field and Tommy Pham shifting to right field. Details about Myers' hamstring, if it is still an issue, should become available in the next day or so.
Jul 26 2021Myers was held out of Sunday's lineup for precautionary reasons after his hamstring tightened up during Saturday's contest versus Miami, per 97.3 The Fan. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The incident during which Myers felt the tightness was a play in the field, though the veteran was able to stay in the game. He didn't start Sunday, but Myers grounded out without incident as a pinch hitter, so the hamstring issue may indeed be a minor one. Even when he's at full health, Myers' playing time may be negatively impacted by the addition of Adam Frazier, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reports.
Jul 25 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will be on the bench for the second time in the four-game series, giving way to Jurickson Profar in right field. Since coming out of the All-Star break with a two-homer, seven-RBI effort, Myers has fallen into a 4-for-19 skid over his past seven contests.
Jul 22 2021Myers isn't starting Thursday's game against the Marlins, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last four games after he went 2-for-8 with a double and a strikeout across his last three appearances. Jurickson Profar will take over in right field and bat eighth.
Jul 18 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will take a seat in the series finale after finishing 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored earlier Sunday in the resumption of Saturday's suspended game. Jurickson Profar checks in for Myers in right field.
Jul 16 2021Myers went 3-for-6 with two home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 24-8 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers put San Diego firmly in the driver's seat with a grand slam in the second inning. He followed up with a two-run blast in the sixth and an RBI single in the eighth. This was the second time in his last seven games the 30-year-old produced five or more RBI. For the year, he's slashing .259/.333/.452 with 12 long balls, 44 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases across 297 plate appearances.
Jul 7 2021Myers went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a double, five RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers got the Padres on the scoreboard in the fourth with a three-run blast to right and later added an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI double to cushion their lead. It was actually the 30-year-old's second five-RBI performance this season and upped his slash line to .252/.321/.430 with 10 homers, 35 RBI, 25 runs scored, five steals and a 26:73 BB:K over 271 plate appearances.
Jul 6 2021Myers went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had been hitless in nine at-bats so far in July but finally found some life at the plate. He singled and scored in the third and doubled home a run in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. For the year, the 30-year-old is slashing .247/.318/.410 with nine homers, 30 RBI, 24 runs scored, five steals and a 26:73 BB:K over 267 plate appearances.
Jul 4 2021Myers is not in the lineup Sunday at Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers is 3-for-19 with a solo homer and nine strikeouts over his past six games and finds himself on the bench for the second time in the last three days. Jurickson Profar starts in right field Sunday for the Friars.
Jul 2 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Switch hitter Jurickson Profar starts in right field as the Padres face tough righty Zack Wheeler. Myers is hitting just .248 on the season, but he has posted a .292 average with three homers in his last 12 games. Strikeouts remain an issue for the 30-year-old, though, as he's struck out 31.1 percent of the time during this 12-game stretch.
Jun 30 2021Myers went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers took Vladimir Gutierrez yard in the second inning to record his ninth home run of the season. Myers has hit fairly well across his last 17 starts, collecting at least one knock on 13 occasions while recording three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. With that stretch, he now owns a 107 wRC+ and a .252/.324/.420 line across 253 plate appearances on the campaign.
Jun 26 2021Myers isn't starting Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had reached base safely in each of the last three games, and he went 2-for-9 with an RBI, a stolen base, two walks and three strikeouts during that time. Jurickson Profar will take his place in right field and bat seventh.
Jun 23 2021Myers went 1-for-3 and stole a base in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers reached on an infield single in the third inning and subsequently swiped second base, but the Padres were unable to bring him home. The theft was Myers' fifth of the season but first since April 24, when he stole three bases in one game against the Dodgers.
Jun 21 2021Myers went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers sent a changeup off the right field wall in the third that easily scored both men on base. He would come around to score on what technically was an inside-the-park-homer but was ruled as a triple and then an error. Myers now has four RBI over his last three games after he had gone 16 games without driving in a run before Friday. Overall, the 30-year-old is slashing .254/.326/.428 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, 22 runs scored and four stolen bases
Jun 19 2021Myers went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and a double in Friday's win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers socked two homers, in the second and fourth innings, respectively, and he now has eight on the year. This was his first multi-hit game since June 4 and his first multi-homer game of the sesaon. He's slashing .241/.293/.389 on the season, so while his averages could use some improvement, the eight homers to go with four steals might be better than expected through 216 plate appearances.
Jun 15 2021Myers is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will get some rest with Jurickson Profar getting the start in right field. With Trent Grisham recently back from a heel injury, Myers could see more frequent days off going forward, though he still figures to serve as the Padres' primary right fielder.
Jun 7 2021Myers won't be in the lineup Monday versus the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started the past four games but will take a seat Monday for the series opener vs. Chicago. Brian O'Grady was promoted from Triple-A El Paso and will work in right field for the Padres.
Jun 2 2021Myers isn't starting Wednesday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had recorded hits in each of his last six games and went 9-for-24 with two home runs, a double, seven RBI and three runs during that time. Tucupita Marcano will start in right field and bat seventh.
May 30 2021Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old continues to swing a hot bat -- he's gone 7-for-16 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored in the last four games. Myers has posted a .252/.338/.430 slash line with six homers, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and four stolen bases in 154 plate appearances overall. He hit third in Sunday's contest, but the outfielder has regularly batted sixth since returning from the COVID-19 injured list on May 23.
May 29 2021Myers went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a walk and four total RBI in Saturday's extra-innings victory over Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers plated a run with an infield single in the eighth inning, drawing the Padres within three. After Fernando Tatis played hero with a three-run blast in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames, Myers enjoyed the spotlight with a three-run blast of his own in the top of the 12th that provided the winning margin. The homer was Myers' first since April 23 -- a span of 21 games.
May 27 2021Myers isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had started each of the last four games and went 1-for-13 with a run, an RBI, two walks and six strikeouts during that time. Brian O'Grady will take over in right field and bat sixth.
May 23 2021The Padres reinstated Myers from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Mariners, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Myers will be good to go for the series finale with Seattle after he was sidelined for a week and a half while waiting to clear all COVID-19 health and safety protocols. San Diego hasn't revealed its lineup for Sunday's contest, but it will likely include Myers, who had been a fixture in the Padres outfield prior to being shut down. Through 35 games, Myers is slashing .255/.342/.415 with four home runs, four stolen bases, 15 RBI and 15 runs.
May 19 2021Myers (COVID-19) may be able to return to the Padres on Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran tested positive for COVID-19 on May 12 but has remained asymptomatic. Teammates Fernando Tatis and Eric Hosmer were both activated Wednesday after their own stints on the COVID-19 injured list, and Myers could soon follow. He is slashing .255/.342/.415 on the season.
May 12 2021The Padres officially placed Myers (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' move to the IL was merely a formality after he was revealed Tuesday to have tested positive for the coronavirus. With utility men Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo already on the COVID-19 IL, the Padres could turn to recent call-ups Brian O'Grady and Patrick Kivlehan to pick up starts in the corner outfield in the short term.
May 11 2021Myers was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rockies after testing positive for COVID-19, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It initially appeared the 30-year-old exited Tuesday's contest with an elbow issue, but he instead tested positive for COVID. Eric Hosmer also left the game due to contact tracing protocols. Fernando Tatis tested positive earlier in the day, with Jorge Mateo and Jurickson Profar landing on the COVID-19 injured list as close contacts. Myers is asymptomatic, and his return timeline will depend on whether he is fully vaccinated and when he tests negative for the virus.
May 2 2021Myers is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Giants, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers started the first two games of the series and will head to the bench for Sunday afternoon's finale. Jurickson Profar will start in right field and bat seventh for San Diego.
Apr 28 2021Myers was a late scratch for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks for precautionary reasons due to contact tracing, but he's since been cleared and is available off the bench. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old was scratched from the starting nine shortly before first pitch, Wednesday, but there's apparently no cause for concern. Myers should be back in the lineup shortly after the precautionary absence in Arizona.
Apr 25 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers will get a chance to rest his legs after he racked up a career-high three stolen bases in Saturday's 5-4 loss. Jurickson Profar replaces Myers in right field.
Apr 24 2021Myers went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored during Friday's 6-1 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers ended an 0-for-12 drought to lead off the second inning when he took Clayton Kershaw deep to left to tie the game up at one apiece. The 30-year-old has been experiencing some inflammation in his right knee, which has likely contributed to his recent struggles, as he was slashing .333/.424/.588 before going hitless over a five-game stretch entering Friday. It's unclear if he's still affected by the knee issue or not, but he will look to return to his early season form after finally making some hard contact at the plate.
Apr 22 2021Myers went 0-for-1 with a strikeout in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was given the opportunity to turn a two-run Padres deficit around quickly, coming up with one out and the bases loaded in the eighth inning. He worked the count full but ultimately struck out swinging. Myers has opened on the bench in four of San Diego's past eight games due to inflammation in his right knee, per the Associated Press, but he has been used as a pinch hitter in each contest that he hasn't started.
Apr 21 2021Myers isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers struck out three times in four at-bats Tuesday and has reached base just once in his last eight plate appearances. Jurickson Profar will take his place in right field Wednesday, batting fifth.
Apr 18 2021Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers recently returned from a bout with patellar tendinitis to play in the first two games of the series with the Dodgers, so he's likely just getting some extra maintenance in Sunday's finale. Jurickson Profar will cover right field in Myers' stead.
Apr 16 2021Myers (patellar tendinitis) is starting Friday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers had been out of the lineup for the past three games due to patellar tendinitis, but he was still available off the bench. He'll rejoin the starting nine for Friday's series opener and will start in right field while batting sixth.
Apr 15 2021Myers (patellar tendinitis) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was supposedly available off the bench Wednesday, so that could be the case again in the final game of this series. Tucupita Marcano will start in right field and bat seventh.
Apr 14 2021Myers has been dealing with patellar tendinitis recently but could be available off the bench Wednesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers isn't in Wednesday's lineup against Pittsburgh after he left Tuesday's game with a right knee injury. Manager Jayce Tingler said that Myers is feeling better Wednesday and could be available off the bench if needed, but the team would prefer to put him in Thursday's lineup as long as he remains on the right track. While Myers' injury will likely linger when he returns to action, the issue doesn't appear to be a particularly high-risk concern, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Apr 13 2021Myers (knee) was removed from Tuesday's game against the Pirates with right knee inflammation, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder was removed for a pinch hitter during the fourth inning after going 0-for-1 with a walk. Myers dealt with a similar issue during spring training and was sidelined for a couple days, though it's unclear if he'll be forced to miss any action this time around.
Apr 12 2021Myers went 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBI in Monday's 6-2 win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers now has a hit in 10-of-11 games to start the season, giving him a .350/.453/..675 slash line. He got the Padres started with an RBI single in the first inning Monday and later clocked a two-run, go-ahead homer in the sixth. The 30-year-old has three homers and 11 RBI on the year.
Apr 7 2021Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers took Tyler Rogers deep in his final at-bat of the game to knot the game at two. It was his second home run of the season and first since Opening Day. Myers has collected at least one hit in all but one of his starts, four of which have gone for extra bases.
Apr 4 2021Myers went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk, two runs scored and three RBI in a victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers helped San Diego get off to a quick start in the contest, driving in a pair of runs with a second-inning double. He later collected his third RBI of the day on another double in the sixth frame. Myers has collected at least one hit and one walk in each game this season and is slashing .400/.538/.900 with four RBI through three contests.
Mar 16 2021Myers (knee) will start in right field and will bat fifth Tuesday in the Padres' Cactus League game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers rejoins the Padres' spring lineup for the first time since last Thursday after receiving a few days of maintenance to address a sore right knee. The fact that the Padres are deploying him at his normal spot in the outfield rather than designated hitter implies confidence in his health.
Mar 15 2021Myers (knee) missed Monday's game against Milwaukee but could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday, Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been out since he was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a sore right knee, though there doesn't seem to be concern that the injury is serious. Prior to missing time, Myers was enjoying a productive spring, slashing .389/.421/.889 with three home runs and three RBI through seven games.
Mar 13 2021Myers (knee) went through practice without issues Saturday despite being scratched from the lineup, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has some inflammation at the top of his kneecap, which was apparently made worse by the cold weather Saturday. He's considered day-to-day, however, and the fact that he was still able to practice despite being held out of game action seemingly bodes well for his readiness for Opening Day.
Oct 7 2020Myers went 0-for-3 with a walk and stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was walked by Walker Buehler in the fourth inning and proceeded to steal second base following a Jake Cronenworth strikeout. The 29-year-old only stole two bags during the regular season and slashed an impressive .288/.353/.606. The veteran also recorded 15 homers and 40 RBI during the regular season as a crucial member to an exciting San Diego team.
Oct 2 2020Myers went 2-for-5 with two homers and four RBI in Thursday's 11-9 victory over St. Louis in the second game of the NL Wild Card Round. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers knocked in the Padres' first run with a groundout in the fourth inning, but his biggest contributions came later. After Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado brought the Padres from down four runs to tied in the sixth inning, Myers led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot off Daniel Ponce de Leon to give his team a one-run lead. He added a pair of insurance runs (which proved necessary following Paul Goldschmidt's ninth-inning homer) in the next frame with a two-run homer off Kodi Whitley.
Sep 27 2020Myers went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double and two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over San Francisco. The 29-year-old finished with a .288/.353/.606 slash line, 40 RBI and 31 extra-base hits.
Sep 26 2020Myers (quadriceps) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was removed from Friday's contest as a precaution while dealing with quad tightness. Since the Padres are locked into the No. 4 spot in the postseason, the Padres could choose to keep him sidelined until the playoffs.
Sep 25 2020Myers left Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Giants with an undisclosed injury, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was replaced defensively by Jurickson Profar to begin the fourth inning of Friday's nightcap. It wasn't immediately apparent what forced Myers out of the contest.
Sep 20 2020Myers went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, a stolen base and two walks in Sunday's 7-4 extra-innings win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers provided a three-run blast in the sixth inning to give the Padres their first lead of the contest. He also walked and stole second in the fourth inning. Myers now has 14 homers, two steals, 38 RBI, 33 runs scored and a .298/.365/.624 slash line in 50 games.
Sep 14 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In the seventh inning, Myers scored the go-ahead run on a Jorge Ona double. Myers added insurance with a solo shot in the eighth, his 13th homer of the year. The 29-year-old is slashing .301/.363/.632 with a stolen base, 35 RBI and 31 runs scored through 45 games this season.
Sep 13 2020Myers went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and three RBI across both games of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In the first game, Myers delivered a two-run single in the third inning of a 6-0 win. He added a solo shot against Giants starter Logan Webb in the nightcap. Through 44 games this season, Myers has 12 homers, 34 RBI, 29 runs scored and a stolen base while slashing .296/.360/.616 in 159 at-bats. Those ratios would be the best of his career.
Sep 9 2020Myers went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-5 route of the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He helped San Diego pile on 11 runs in the first three innings alone and was later lifted as manager Jayce Tingler emptied his bench in this blowout. Myers is hitting .359 with three home runs, nine runs and nine RBI in his last 10 games.
Sep 3 2020Myers (undisclosed) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting Thursday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was placed on the injured list Wednesday for unspecified reasons, but he'll return just one day later, starting in right field and batting sixth against the Angels. Greg Allen was sent to the alternate training site in a corresponding move. Given Myers' quick return, it's unlikely that he'll face limitations going forward.
Sep 2 2020Myers was placed on the injured list Wednesday for unspecified reasons. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team declined to provide any reasoning for the move, similar to the placement of teammate Adrian Morejon on the injured list over the weekend. It's worth noting that Morejon was back two days later, though Myers doesn't have an official timeline for his return. Greg Allen -- who was acquired Monday from the Indians -- likely will be the primary beneficiary of his absence.
Aug 28 2020Myers went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and two RBI during Friday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was nothing short of unstoppable at the plate Friday. The red-hot 29-year-old doubled and scored in the fourth, hit an RBI double and scored in the fifth, singled and scored in the sixth, then added an RBI single in the eighth. Myers now has nine doubles on the season while batting .297/.376/.613 with 23 RBI.
Aug 27 2020Myers went 1-for-4 with a walkoff three-run home run in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Mariners took a 7-3 lead in the top half of the seventh, but the Padres responded with seven runs to win it in the bottom half. Myers capped off the rally with a walkoff homer off Dan Altavilla. It marked the outfielder's eighth homer on the campaign and it brought his RBI count to 21.
Aug 23 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 13-2 rout over Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers hit one of six Padres homers in the contest, going deep to left field in the second inning. The long ball was his seventh of the campaign, and he is now slashing .280/.356/.591 through 104 plate appearances.
Aug 18 2020Myers went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and a walk in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old missed the previous two games with back tightness, and he returned to action Tuesday by hitting a grand slam in his first at-bat. Myers now has a .286/.368/.623 slash line with six homers and 16 RBI in 22 games.
Aug 17 2020Myers (back) has a good chance to return for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers missed his second straight matchup Monday night due to back tightness, though manager Jayce Tingler is optimistic about the outfielder's chances of returning to the lineup for the second of four matchups against Texas this week. Myers would look to extend a five-game hitting streak if he's cleared to play Tuesday.
Aug 16 2020Myers (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers exited Saturday's 7-6 loss with back tightness, so the Padres are hoping that a day off will be enough for him to move past the issue. Edward Olivares will fill in for Myers in right field.
Aug 15 2020Myers left Saturday's game against Arizona with back tightness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers became the second Padre to exit the contest prematurely, with Tommy Pham leaving earlier due to calf cramps. It's not yet clear how much time Myers is expected to miss. Edward Olivares could be in line for an increased role in his absence.
Aug 9 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 9-5 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' two-run blast in the first inning gave the Padres a quick 3-0 lead and set the tone for San Diego's offense Sunday afternoon. He owns a strong .260/.339/.620 slash line with nine extra-base hits this season.
Aug 6 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers continued his strong start to the campaign with a single in the sixth inning and a solo blast to left field in the eighth. The veteran is slashing a solid .302/.388/.721 through 49 plate appearances and is tied with teammates Trent Grisham and Fernando Tatis for fourth in the majors with four home runs.
Aug 4 2020Myers is not starting Tuesday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers sits for the first time this season. He's making a strong case for an everyday role, hitting .282/.378/.667 with three homers. Josh Naylor will start in right field in his absence.
Aug 2 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a triple Sunday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers came through with a timely bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning, which cut the Rockies' lead to 9-5. He hadn't taken advantage of Coors Field until Sunday, as he ends the series just 3-for-12 with a double and a triple. For the season, Myers has managed to drive in eight runs and score five times despite a 37 percent strikeout rate in 41 plate appearances.
Jul 30 2020Myers went 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a run scored in a loss to San Francisco on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers helped generate a run in the fourth inning when he led off by reaching base on a HBP, stole second with two outs, and came around to score on Edward Olivares' single. The 29-year-old Myers has already hit a pair of home runs this season, and given his history as a base stealer -- Myers has racked up double-digit thefts each of the last four campaigns -- he could outperform his ADP in fantasy leagues if he is able to maintain a tolerable batting average.
Jul 29 2020Myers went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in the Padres' 5-3 win over the Giants on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has not attempted a stolen base yet this season and running may not be a big part of his game moving forward, but he's showing encouraging signs at the plate. Through five games, Myers has three extra-base hits and five walks against seven strikeouts. His BB/K was a career-low 0.30 last season.
Jul 27 2020Myers was added to Monday's lineup against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was initially held out of the lineup for Monday's contest, but he'll join the starting nine after Eric Hosmer was scratched with an illness that reportedly isn't related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Myers will bat sixth and start at first base Monday.
Jul 25 2020Myers went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in the Padres' 5-1 win over Arizona on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers struck out twice on Opening Day but also walked twice, so he's been on base four times through two games. The 29-year-old was in right field for the opener but was the designated hitter Saturday, with Edward Olivares in right.
May 13 2020Myers' strong spring was set off in part by a simplified approach at the plate, Bill Center of FriarWire reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers slashed a solid .300/.364/.733 with five RBI and a team-leading three home runs in Cactus League play. Perhaps most encouragingly, he posted an 18.1 percent strikeout rate after cratering to a career-worst 34.3 percent mark last season -- second worst among MLB hitters with at least 400 plate appearances. If Myers is able to transfer his strong spring into similar results in the regular season, it will be a much-needed boost to a Padres offense that ranked 27th in baseball in runs scored in 2019.
Mar 4 2020Myers is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three home runs and four RBI in seven Cactus League contests. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After struggling to a .239 batting average last season, Myers entered 2020 as the subject of trade rumors amid talk of a platoon role. Spring training may not change any of that, but the veteran has certainly started off hot in Cactus League play. There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about Myers' ability to sustain his early success, but he possesses a combination of power and speed that will be coveted in fantasy leagues if he is ever able to put all the pieces together.
Sep 28 2019Myers went 1-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored, a triple and a walk in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers walked, stole second and scored on Manny Machado's homer in the third inning. Myers also lined his first triple of the year in the first, but he was stranded 90 feet from home. The outfielder hasn't enjoyed much success over the last two weeks, going 3-for-25 with 13 strikeouts in his last 10 games. For the year, Myers has 18 homers, 16 stolen bases, 53 RBI and 58 runs scored in 154 games.
Sep 26 2019Myers (head) singled in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter against the Dodgers on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers came on as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and collected one of three Padres hits on the afternoon. Though Myers didn't remain in the game to play the field, the appearance was a positive sign after he was pulled from Wednesday's game due to feeling light-headed. The 28-year-old also suffered a fainting episode Sunday but appears to be fully recovered. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Myers passed a series of pregame tests Thursday and is expected to be available for the Padres' final series of the season in Arizona.
Sep 25 2019Myers (illness) is starting in left field and hitting cleanup Wednesday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers has been cleared to rejoin the starting lineup after missing a pair of games following a fainting episode. Since the start of September, Myers is slashing .303/.356/.515 with three home runs and three steals in 20 games.
Sep 24 2019Myers (illness) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers suffered a fainting episode Sunday, and while he was reportedly feeling fine Monday, he'll sit for at least one game. Manuel Margot starts in center field Tuesday.
Sep 23 2019Myers had a vasovagal (fainting) episode Sunday night, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The incident occurred at a charity event hosted by teammate Kirby Yates. Myers was taken by ambulance to a hospital following the episode, but his labs and tests came back normal and he reported feeling fine Monday morning. It is unclear whether Myers is expected to miss any time, but all indications are that the episode was merely a scare rather than an indication of a more serious medical issue.
Sep 21 2019Myers remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was playing a lot in center field there for a while, but he was on the bench for the final game of the Andy Green era, and he will remain there for the first game under interim manager Rod Barajas. Manuel Margot is making his second straight start.
Sep 20 2019Myers isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers is going through a tough stretch at the plate, as he's now 0-for-12 over his last four contests. Manuel Margot draws the start in center field and will bat sixth.
Sep 18 2019Myers (arm) is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to a sore arm, but he was able to pinch hit in the game, and is back in the starting nine a day later. Barring another late scratch, Myers will man left field and hit fifth in the Padres' batting order.
Sep 17 2019Myers was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Brewers with right arm soreness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was pulled from the lineup less than an hour before first pitch due to the issue. Nick Martini replaced him in left field and in the second spot in the order.
Sep 15 2019Myers went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and two walks in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' fifth-inning homer cut the Padres' deficit to one run before the bullpen fell apart in the seventh. The 28-year-old has been on an absolute heater this month, going 20-for-48 (.417 average) with eight extra-base hits and 12 RBI. During that time, he's bumped his season OPS from .706 to .761.
Sep 8 2019Myers went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Myers' 10th-inning single drove in Manny Machado to walk it off. The 28-year-old is on an eight-game hitting streak and has been on a tear in September; he's 12-for-22 (.545) with four extra-base hits with five RBI this month.
Sep 4 2019Myers hit a solo home run in his only at-bat during Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pinch hitting in the top of the ninth, Myers finally got the Padres on the board with a solo homer off T.J. McFarland. Unfortunately, that's as close as they would get. Across 367 at-bats this season, Myers is batting .232/.317/.409 with 16 home runs, 52 runs scored and 13 stolen bags.
Aug 31 2019Myers went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Giants.

Jul 25 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a double and a trio of RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Mets.Myers was the only Padre batter to put a dent in Zack Wheeler's strong stat line. The 27-year-old has looked healthy since returning from his second DL stint June 21, slashing .294/.363/.627 with eight homers, 23 RBI and four stolen bases over that 27-game span.
Jul 22 2018Myers is out of the lineup for the second game of the Padres' doubleheader Sunday against the Phillies.Myers, who entered Sunday with a .956 OPS in 24 games since returning from the disabled list June 21, continued to sport a hot bat in the first half of the twin bill. He put the finishing touches on the Padres' 10-2 win, taking Mark Leiter deep for a two-run home run in what was the outfielder's only hit of the afternoon. Myers will get a breather for the nightcap, affording Hunter Renfroe a start in left field.
Jul 21 2018Myers went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 11-5 loss to the Phillies. The All-Star break didn't slow Myers down, bringing his July slash line up to .298/.385/.702 with six homers and three steals over 15 contests. The 27-year-old's batting average will experience ebbs and flows based on his aggressive approach at the plate (25 percent strikeout rate), but he should provide strong contributions in terms of power and speed in the second half.
Jul 12 2018Myers went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI on Thursday against the Dodgers.Myers was the sole source of offense for the Padres Thursday and continues to swing one of the hottest bats in the league. Since returning to the lineup on June 21, Myers has gone 22-for-71 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Jul 10 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-2 loss to the Dodgers on Monday.Myers homered for the third consecutive day, and now owns a whopping five long balls over that brief period. The 27-year-old is making up for lost time due to injury this season, slashing .300/.391/.683 with six homers, 14 RBI and four steals in 17 games since returning from the disabled list.
Jul 8 2018Myers went 1-for-6 with a solo home run, two walks and stolen bases in Sunday's 4-3 in over Arizona.Myers has four home runs and five RBI in his last nine at-bats. Stricken with injuries for most of the season, the 27-year-old has six long balls, 16 RBI and four stolen bases in 96 at-bats this season. If he can stay healthy, he should be a strong fantasy option for the rest of the season.
Jul 7 2018Myers went 3-for-3 with three home runs and four RBI in Saturday's loss to the Diamondbacks. It was his first career three-homer game and the ninth in Padres franchise history, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Myers had hit just one home run in his first 14 games back from the disabled list, slashing .255/.340/.426 over that span. Arm and oblique issues have limited Myers to just 25 games so far this season, but with better health, he should play close to every day in the second half.
Jul 6 2018Myers is out of Friday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.Travis Jankowski will start in left field and lead off. Myers had started the last nine games, hitting .286/.342/.514 with one home run and one steal over that stretch.
Jul 5 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and run scored Thursday against the Diamondbacks.Myers recorded his first triple of the season and also drove in a run with a single in the first inning. He has been moved around the lineup -- he's batted between second and fourth in the last four games -- but has been productive regardless, driving in seven runs in his last five starts.
Jul 1 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, double and three RBI on Saturday against the Pirates.Myers took Trevor Williams deep in the third inning for his second home run of the season, and first since coming off the disabled list on June 21. While he hasn't been particularly impressive in his return, he now has three multi-hit games to go along with four RBI, three runs scored and two doubles across his last four starts.
Jun 30 2018Myers went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Pirates.Myers is batting just .214 (6-for-28) since returning from an oblique injury June 21, but he has started seven of the Friars' eight contests over that span, which is a good sign for his health moving forward. The free-swinging outfielder has only appeared in 18 games due to multiple injuries this year, but his power and speed potential (58 homers and 48 steals over the last two seasons) make him worth rostering while he works his way back into form.
Jun 26 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.Myers clubbed an RBI double -- his fourth two-bagger of the year -- off Jake Diekman in the eighth to open a three-run inning for the Padres. Myers has been limited to 16 games this season due to a couple stints on the disabled list, and has started five of six games since being activated on June 21. He's hitting .271 with one home run, four RBI and seven runs scored.

Jun 21 2018Myers (oblique) will be reinstated from the 10-day disabled list and in Thursday's lineup against the Giants, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers has been sidelined since late April due to this oblique injury but will immediately rejoin the fray heading into a four-game set in San Francisco. The 27-year-old was able to play in five contest with Triple-A El Paso on a rehab assignment over the past week, going 6-for-20 with four extra-base hits while experiencing no physical issues. In a corresponding move, Franmil Reyes was sent back down to the minors. Look for Myers to regain his starting role in the outfield moving forward.
Jun 21 2018Myers (oblique) was activated from the disabled list Thursday. He's starting in left field and hitting leadoff. As expected, Myers is back with the Padres ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Giants after spending more than a month on the disabled list with an oblique injury. He was able to play in five rehab games with Triple-A El Paso before returning, going 6-for-20 with four extra-base hits. The 27-year-old should immediately slide back into a starting role, though given this was his second stint on the disabled list this season, the Padres may choose to ease him back into action with some more occasional off days during his first month back. The 27-year-old was hitting .300/.300/.450 through 10 games before landing on the shelf.
Jun 20 2018Myers (oblique) could be activated off the disabled list during an upcoming four-game set against the Giants that begins Thursday, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports.Myers appears ready to rejoin the Padres after going 6-for-20 with three doubles and a home run over five games during his rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso. The slugger has been sidelined since April 28 with an oblique injury, resulting in his second DL trip this season. Myers owns 58 homers and 48 steals over his previous two seasons, and he figures to reclaim a starting role in the outfield upon his activation.
Jun 18 2018Myers (oblique) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.Sunday's homer was a promising sign for Myers' recovery process, The slugger began his rehab assignment Thursday, and has gone 3-for-12 with two extra-base hits and a pair of RBI in three starts. The Padres haven't announced a target return date for Myers, but his ramped up production bodes well for a return sooner rather than later. The veteran should reclaim a regular role in the outfield, likely pushing one of the club's young outfielders back to the minors.
Jun 13 2018Myers (oblique) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.Myers, who has been on the disabled list since April 29 with an oblique strain, has finally been cleared to return to game action. Given the length of his absence, Myers will likely need to appear in multiple rehab games before he's cleared to rejoin the Padres.
May 31 2018Myers (oblique) took dry swings with no issues Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers was also doing some light on-field drills earlier in the week, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic San Diego, so everything appears to be pointing in the right direction, though he remains without an official timetable for his return. Travis Jankowski and Franmil Reyes should continue to hold down the corner outfield spots while Myers and Franchy Cordero (forearm) are sidelined.
May 28 2018Myers (oblique) hopes to be cleared to resume baseball activities Tuesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic San Diego reports. He is visiting a doctor Monday with hopes of getting clearance. Franchy Cordero (forearm strain) hit the disabled list and Hunter Renfroe was activated from the disabled list, so there are a lot of moving parts in the San Diego outfield at the moment. If he is cleared for baseball activities, he could then embark on a rehab assignment in the following weeks. Myers should be able to get close to everyday at-bats once healthy, given the team's long-term commitment to him.
May 17 2018Myers (oblique) may not be reinstated from the disabled list until sometime in June, according to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell.Myers was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a low-grade oblique strain April 29, but the Padres didn't offer a firm timetable due to the nature of the injury. Cassavell's estimation of a June return is the closest thing we've received to a potential return date, which would keep the outfielder out for at least a couple more weeks. The extra time will allow San Diego to figure out which of their talented young outfielders will play alongside Myers in center and left field.
Apr 29 2018Myers (oblique) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic San Diego reports.Myers left Saturday's matchup early with a left oblique strain, and he'll require a stint on the disabled list before returning to action. He's been diagnosed with a low-grade oblique strain and he expects to be out for around 14 days. Myers was hitting .300 with one home run and three RBI in 10 games prior to suffering the injury. Travis Jankowski looks to replace the injured Myers until he returns to health.
Apr 28 2018Myers exited Saturday's game against the Mets with a left oblique strain.Myers suffered the injury after taking a swing in the fifth inning of Saturday's contest. While the severity of the injury remains unclear, oblique ailments tend to linger, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him miss some time. He'll be further evaluated Sunday, at which point there should be a better idea regarding a possible timetable. In the meantime, consider Myers day-to-day.
Apr 28 2018Myers exited Saturday's game against the Mets in the fifth inning with an apparent injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers appeared to grab his left side after taking a swing in the fifth inning, and he was subsequently replaced by Matt Szczur. Specifics regarding the injury remain unclear at this point. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 25 2018Myers went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Rockies.Making his first start of the season at first base with Eric Hosmer (personal) away from the team, Myers was the only Padres hitter to have much success against Jon Gray. The 27-year-old is hitting well in his limited action so far, slashing .333/.333/.515 through eight games.
Apr 24 2018Myers went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 13-5 win over the Rockies.Myers has hit the ground running since returning from the disabled list last Friday, going 6-for-14 (.429) with three runs, two RBI and a steal. The free swinger won't maintain his current .346 batting average, but as long as he stays on the field, Myers will provide a rare combination of power and speed -- at the expense of batting average -- that not many players with first-base eligibility can bring to the table.
Apr 21 2018Myers is not in the lineup Saturday against Arizona.Myers has only recently returned from the disabled list and the team appears to be easing him back into the lineup. He started Friday but won't yet start two games in a row. Franchy Cordero will get the start in right field in his place.
Apr 20 2018Myers (arm) was activated from the disabled list Friday.Myers has been out since the first week of the season, and after a longer-than-expected DL stint, he'll finally return to action for San Diego. He'll presumably resume his normal role as the team's cleanup hitter and right fielder moving forward. To make room for him on the active roster, Tyler Webb was optioned to Triple-A.
Apr 19 2018Myers (arm) will play in another minor-league rehab game with High-A Lake Elsinore on Thursday before rejoining the Padres over the weekend, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers has already appeared in two rehab games with Lake Elsinore, going 1-for-7 with a two-run homer. While he was originally expected to rejoin the Padres on Friday after a two-game rehab stint, the team opted to send him for a final tuneup game with the Storm before bringing him off the disabled list. It's unclear which day Myers will be activated, but barring any setbacks, he should be back in action sometime over the weekend.
Apr 16 2018Myers (arm) will begin a two-game rehab assignment at High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. As long as Myers doesn't incur any setbacks, the Padres plan on activating him from the DL prior to Friday's game against Arizona. Myers had played in just three games prior to landing on the disabled list, over which he'd gone 3-for-12 (.250) with a home run.
Apr 14 2018Myers (arm) threw Saturday for the first time since landing on the disabled list, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers is nearing a return from right arm nerve irritation and has now taken part in most baseball activities. He was eligible to return from the DL on Friday and originally expected to do so, but he ended up needing a bit more time to recover. It's likely that he'll be back on the field sometime next week.
Apr 13 2018Myers (arm) hit in the batting cage at "full intensity" Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers continues to progress slowly but surely in his rehab program. He still hasn't thrown on the field, but that could happen in the coming days. The former All-Star still seems to be on track to return sometime next week.
Apr 12 2018Myers (arm) hit off a tee Thursday and could return sometime next week, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers won't be ready to come off the disabled list when eligible Friday and will likely go on a rehab assignment prior to returning. Thursday was the 27-year-old's first time throwing and hitting off a tee, but considers himself to be nearing a return.
Apr 10 2018Myers (arm) is eligible to return from the disabled list Friday but will be out at least a little longer than that, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers has been out since April 2 with right arm nerve irritation. Initial expectations were that he would only need the minimum time on the DL, leaving him able to come back Friday, but he'll now be targeting a return sometime in the following week. He's yet to hit or throw, and the longer he remains out, the more likely a rehab assignment becomes. There's no report yet that suggests he's suffered a particularly serious setback, but any time a timeline starts to slip, it's potentially worrisome.
Apr 4 2018Myers (triceps) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies. This comes as little surprise, as Myers isn't expected to return until the weekend. This is the second game in a row he'll miss, however. Cory Spangenberg will move to the outfield Wednesday to fill his absence.
Apr 4 2018Myers (arm) said he expects to return from the disabled list after a minimum 10-day stay, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.According to Cassavell, Myers saw an arm specialist earlier in the week who diagnosed him with the nerve issue that sent him to the disabled list. Fortunately, the specialist said the issue should heal with a few days of rest, so Myers will get the next 5-6 days off as he waits for the pain to subside. If all goes as planned, Myers could rejoin the Padres April 13, which is when he's first eligible for activation. In the meantime, Cory Spangenberg, Matt Szczur and Hunter Renfroe will be candidates to see extra playing time until Myers is healthy.
Apr 4 2018Myers was placed on the 10-day disabled list due to right arm nerve irritation.Myers left Monday's contest prematurely due to triceps soreness, but it seems like there is a bigger issue in play despite a clean X-ray. No word has come forth as to how much time he'll miss, but the earliest he is eligible to return to action is next week Friday. Cory Spangenberg, Matt Szczur and Hunter Renfroe could see more playing time while Myers is sidelined. To fill the void on the roster, Phil Maton was recalled from Triple-A.
Apr 4 2018Myers (triceps) will likely be held out at least until this weekend's series in Houston, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Tests on Myers' triceps revealed no structural damage, and the thinking behind holding him out until this weekend is that he would be able to slot in as the designated hitter in Houston to avoid making throws from the outfield. It's also possible that he requires a short disabled list stint. In the meantime, Hunter Renfroe should start in right field in the short term.
Apr 3 2018Myers (triceps) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers exited Monday's game against the Rockies with triceps soreness, though subsequent X-rays ruled out any structural damage. He was also dealing with a minor back issue prior to Monday, so it's possible the Padres are simply playing it safe with the 27-year-old. Consider him day-to-day until the Padres provide more on his status. Hunter Renfroe is starting in right field and hitting cleanup in his absence.
Apr 3 2018Myers underwent X-rays on his right triceps that returned negative following Monday's 7-4 loss to the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers, who came into the contest nursing a back issue, supplied his first home run of the season before departing after the fifth inning with the triceps injury, which he said made it difficult to throw the ball to the infield. Though the Padres have ruled out any structural damage to Myers' throwing arm, the extent of the injury isn't fully known and could result in the outfielder getting sent in for an MRI. Manager Andy Green didn't seem optimistic that Myers would be available Tuesday, so it's likely that Hunter Renfroe will pick up a start in right field with a left-hander (Kyle Freeland) on the mound for Colorado.
Apr 2 2018Myers (back) was replaced in the sixth inning of Monday's matchup against the Rockies, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.Myers missed Saturday's game against Milwaukee with a back issue, and it appears he reaggravated it against Colorado. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, and Myers will likely be listed as day-to-day moving forward. The 27-year-old went 1-for-3 with a home run prior to leaving Monday's game. If Myers isn't able to go Tuesday, look for Hunter Renfroe to get the start in right field.
Apr 2 2018Myers (back) is starting in right field and batting second Monday against the Rockies.Myers is back in action after missing Saturday's game against the Brewers with back stiffness. The injury was never thought to be overly serious and he should have no restrictions after getting the previous two days (one being an off day) to rest and recover.
Mar 31 2018Myers left Friday's game in the eighth inning of loss to the Brewers due to lingering back stiffness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers downplayed the issue after the game, saying that he had been playing through the injury for a while, and even lobbied to manager Andy Green to keep him in the contest. Green decided to play it safe and remove his outfielder, listing Myers as day-to-day for Saturday's game. With a lefty on the bump for the Brewers, Green may lean towards resting Myers in an effort to get Hunter Renfroe (who abuses southpaws) in the lineup. Either way, it doesn't sound like the slugger's back issue is anything that will require a DL stint in its current state.
Mar 31 2018Myers (back) is available to pinch hit Saturday against the Brewers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers is not in the lineup for Saturday's series finale due to back stiffness. The 27-year-old downplayed the severity of the issue, however, and his availability off the bench confirms he isn't dealing with anything overly serious. "I feel fine," Myers said. "They want me to take two days and go from there." He should be reevaluated following the Padres' day off Sunday, and if everything checks out, look for Myers to return to action for Monday's series opener against the Rockies.
Mar 31 2018Myers (back) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Brewers.Myers' exited Friday's game in the eighth inning due to back stiffness. He'll sit Saturday, though the issue doesn't appear likely to send him to the disabled list. Hunter Renfroe will start in right field in Myers' place.
Mar 7 2018Myers (arm) will bat third and play right field for Wednesday's Cactus League game against San Francisco.Myers was forced to DH on Monday after experiencing a little arm soreness during pre-game outfield drills. There shouldn't be any concern for his status as the club seemed confident that this was only a singular occurrence and nothing to worry about heading into the final few weeks of camp.
Mar 6 2018Manager Andy Green said Myers (arm) should be "good to go" for Wednesday's spring game against the Giants, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.Myers was slated to start in right field Monday but was relegated to designated hitter after feeling arm soreness, and then had a scheduled off day Tuesday, according to Green. The injury never seemed to spark real concern from the Padres but it's nonetheless good to see the 27-year-old miss minimal time.
Mar 5 2018Myers was supposed to make a start in right field Monday, but was moved to DH after feeling arm soreness during outfield drills, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Manager Andy Green seemed unconcerned about the arm soreness felt by his right fielder, stating "it's nothing that I think is going to inhibit his next start". Myers felt good enough to hit out of the DH slot Monday and went 2-for-3 against the Diamondbacks.
Feb 18 2018Myers will spend the majority of Sunday's spring training session working out in right field, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. After the Padres' blockbuster addition of Eric Hosmer on Saturday, Myers will get acclimated with both corner-outfield spots again after playing almost exclusively at first base the past two seasons. It appears right field may be the preferred place where manager Bud Black wants to deploy Myers, which would force Hunter Renfroe, Jose Pirela, Franchy Cordero and Alex Dickerson (back) to vie for playing time in left field. Manuel Margot is locked in as the Padres' everyday center fielder.
Feb 17 2018Myers gave his approval to the Padres' signing of first baseman Eric Hosmer, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Myers, who hit 30 home runs as San Diego's starting first baseman in 2017, will move back to the outfield to accommodate the Padres' acquisition of Hosmer. He came up to the majors as a right fielder with the Rays, but has played the outfield in just 10 games over the last two seasons.
Oct 1 2017Myers is not in Sunday's lineup against the Giants. After signing a lucrative extension this offseason, Myers took a slight step back in offensive production in 2017. He'll finish the year with a .243 average, 30 home runs, 20 stolen bases and a 27.7 strikeout rate in his 155 games played. Yangervis Solarte will slide over to first base Sunday.
Sep 30 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Saturday's win over San Francisco. After a breakout 2016 campaign, Myers has turned in another solid fantasy campaign this year. His .243/.328/.464 slash line definitely doesn't jump off the page, but the first baseman is now up to 30 homers, 74 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 80 runs. Still in the heart of his prime, Myers is a strong bet to post solid numbers again in 2018, too.
Sep 25 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Rockies. It was the slugger's 29th long ball of the season, surpassing the career high he set in last year's breakout campaign. It's been a season of highs and lows for Myers, but it has all culminated in another 20-homer, 20-steal campaign, a feat that no other major-league first baseman can stake a claim to in 2017.
Sep 17 2017Myers (leg) is starting at first base and batting third during Sunday's game against the Rockies.Myers was removed from Saturday's game with a contusion after fouling a ball off his right leg during the sixth inning. It sounds as if his exit was simply precautionary, as he's set to rejoin the starting lineup for the team's series finale against Jon Gray and the Rockies.
Sep 16 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-1 loss to the Rockies. It was the slugger's 28th of the season, matching last year's career-high mark. It has been a roller-coaster ride of a season for the 26-year-old, but a strong month of September (.354 with four homers and 11 RBI) has put Myers' 2017 numbers (.244/.327/.465) right on par with last year's breakout totals (.259/.336/.461).
Sep 16 2017Myers was removed from Saturday's game with a right leg contusion.Myers sustained the injury after fouling a ball off his leg in the sixth inning. He'll likely be reevaluated Sunday, at which point there will be a clearer idea regarding his status for the series finale.
Sep 16 2017Myers was removed from Saturday's game against the Rockies with an apparent leg injury, Dennis Lin of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers fouled a ball off his leg in the top of the sixth inning and was subsequently replaced by Hector Sanchez at first base for the bottom half of the frame. Details about the injury are still unclear, but more should be known once he is further evaluated following Saturday's contest.
Sep 9 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI during Saturday's win over Arizona. After going 23 games without a long fly, Myers has now left the yard three times in his past three games. The 26-year-old first baseman entered Saturday's showing with a disastrous .222/.318/.428 slash line in the second half, so this two-bomb outing was a welcomed power outburst for fantasy owners.
Sep 7 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Cardinals. The home run was Myers' first in nearly a month. Despite the long drought, Myers is tied for 19th in the National League with 25 long balls on the year. He's two steals away from his second straight 20-20 season.
Sep 2 2017Myers is not in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.Myers went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple in the matinee, marking his first game with multiple extra-base hits since Aug. 5. Hector Sanchez will replace Myers at first base against right-hander Yu Darvish.
Aug 27 2017Myers went 2-for-5 with his 16th stolen base of the season in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.Saturday's two-hit performance broke up Myers' six-game hitless skid (0-for-19). The 26-year-old has fallen into a second-half slump for the second consecutive season, hitting .185 in 135 at-bats since the All-Star break. The sliver lining for Myers' fantasy owners is that he has contributed eight home runs and six steals to help offset his draining batting average.
Aug 24 2017Myers is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.Myers will head to the bench for the first time all month, as Yangervis Solarte gets a start at first for the series finale. Since the beginning of August, Myers is hitting .169/.307/.380 with four home runs and 10 RBI.
Aug 16 2017Myers went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, a run scored, an RBI and three stolen bases in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Phillies. The run came during a wild fourth-inning performance in which Myers hit an RBI single, then proceeded to steal second base, third base and home off the Nick Pivetta/Cameron Rupp battery, becoming the first big-league player to score a run in that fashion since Dee Gordon in 2011 -- and likely contributing to Pivetta's demotion by Philadelphia immediately following the game. Myers would need a massive finish to the season to come close to matching his 2016 production, but his 24 homers and 14 steals in 115 games have still allowed him to supply solid fantasy value.
Aug 13 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers. The long ball was Myers third in his last four contests, which all followed an ugly 5-for-43 (.116) 12-game stretch. The 26-year-old has gone on power binges like this before, but he will need to cut down on his 29.6 strikeout rate if his batting average is going to come north of .250 again this season. It's tough to peg the young slugger's value when he continues to be extremely inconsistent at the plate. Myers may simply be one of those all-or-nothing power hitters that can carry teams in head-to-head leagues on any given week, but will also provide no returns whatsoever on others.
Aug 10 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with his second home run in as many days in Thursday's loss to the Reds. The 26-year-old has fallen into another second-half swoon (.174/.284/.419 since the All-Star break), but he has begun to pick things up in the power department with three homers over his previous six contests. A career-high 29.5 percent strikeout rate has suppressed Myers' batting average to an unsavory .238 on the season. Despite being a drain on fantasy owners' batting averages, the Friars' first baseman has provided enough in terms of runs (57), homers (23), RBI (56) and stolen bases (11) to remain relevant in fantasy circles.
Aug 9 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Wednesday in Cincinnati.Myers came into this one mired in a 1-for-13 slump with six strikeouts over his previous three games, but broke out in style with his 22nd long ball. He also avoided whiffing in this one, which has been a rare feat given Myers' 29.5 percent strikeout rate. The slugger will be glad to know there are still four games left on his team's road trip, as 16 of his homers have come away from Petco Park.
Aug 5 2017Myers went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, a walk and three RBI Saturday against the Pirates.Myers blasted his 21st homer of the year to extend the Padres lead in the fifth inning of a road victory. His performance broke a 0-for-13 stretch over his past four games, and despite a poor batting average, his power along with his 10 stolen bases continue to give him fantasy value.
Aug 2 2017Myers returned to the starting lineup Tuesday after receiving two mental days off, but his struggles continued with an 0-for-3 line in a 3-0 win over the Phillies. The 26-year-old's rough month of July (.195/.287/.390) was capped off by a brief benching by manager Andy Green in an effort to get his slugger back on track. The plan didn't pay immediate dividends as evidenced by his two strikeouts in three hitless plate appearances. Myers has provided fantasy owners value with 20 home runs and 10 stolen bases through 101 games, but his .244 batting average and 129 strikeouts (fifth among all hitters) hold him back from being a top-end first baseman.
Jul 30 2017Myers is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. As expected, Myers has received the entire weekend off in order to get his legs under him before the Padres enter the final two months of their season. Jose Pirela will draw the start at first base, batting third.
Jul 29 2017Myers (rest) will be out of the lineup Saturday and Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Manager Andy Green cleared the air and told reporters that Myers' absence is not injury-related, but rather a chance to give the star first baseman some rest before the home stretch of the regular season. Jose Pirela will man first base for the Padres on Saturday and could do so again Sunday. Look for Myers to draw back into the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Twins.
Jul 23 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Giants.Myers became the first Padres hitter to reach 20 homers this season with a first-inning bomb off Ty Blach. The first baseman is slashing .252/.333/.476, so he's not the man to blame for San Diego's 30th-ranked offense.
Jul 22 2017Myers went 1-for-5 with a solo homer Saturday against the Giants.Myers smashed his 19th homer of the season off Matt Moore to tie the game at one apiece in a game the Padres would eventually lose. His power is his greatest asset to fantasy managers while his .252 batting average leaves much to be desired.
Jul 19 2017Myers went 1-for-3 with two walks and his first home run of the second half in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies. After toying with Myers batting leadoff, manager Andy Green has moved his slugger back into his usual role as the Padres' three-hole hitter. Tuesday's homer was the 26-year-old's 17th of the campaign, and his .252/.332/.460 triple slash is eerily similar to last year's breakout mark of .259/.336/.461. Aside from his pedestrian batting average, Myers has been a four-category contributor this season.
Jul 8 2017Myers batted atop the Padres' lineup Friday, going 3-for-4 with his 10th stolen base of the season in a win over the Phillies.Manager Andy Green swapped Jose Pirela and Myers in his batting order, using the 26-year-old in the leadoff spot for the first time this season. The move was made in an effort to spark an underperforming San Diego offense. The slugging first baseman did his best leadoff man impersonation, getting on base three times and reminding fantasy owners that he does have some speed in his legs. While Pirela's placement in the heart of the order is warranted, one would assume that Myers' ability to hit for power and drive in runs would be better suited in the middle of the order. That said, the new configuration produced a win for the Friars, so Green is sticking with the same lineup Saturday against the Phillies.
Jul 7 2017Myers is starting at first base and batting leadoff for Friday's series opener against the Phillies. In an apparent effort to kickstart the Padres' lowly offense, manager Andy Green is flipping Jose Pirela and Myers in the batting order. The 26-year-old slugger leads the team in home runs (16), RBI (42) and hits (78), so the move to the No. 1 hole may be able to generate some extra opportunities for production. Myers batted leadoff in just two games for the Padres last year.
Jul 2 2017Myers is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Hitless in his previous two contests, Myers will get the day off ahead of the series finale against Kenta Maeda and the Dodgers. Hector Sanchez will take over at first base in his absence.
Jun 29 2017Myers went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-0 win over the Braves. The slugging first baseman continues to flash his power, tallying his fourth homer over his last 12 games. Myers is on a mission to prove that last year's breakout season was no fluke. His 16 long balls through 77 games puts him on pace to surpass the mark of 28 he set in 2016.
Jun 26 2017Myers -- who had a minor wrist injury scare Saturday -- remained in the lineup Sunday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in a loss to Detroit. The wrist injury Myers suffered on a collision as first base Saturday was never considered serious, but a home run further assures his fantasy owners that there is nothing to worry about. 15 homers puts the 26-year-old on pace to match last year's mark of 28, with his steals not lagging too far behind. Another 20-20 season seems likely.
Jun 25 2017Myers had to be checked on after his left wrist was involved in a collision at first base Saturday, but he stayed in the game, finishing 0-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in a 7-3 win over the Tigers. The wrist that Nick Castellanos ran into Saturday was the same wrist that required Myers to undergo season-ending surgery in 2015, according to Dennis Lin of The San Diego Union-Tribune. The fact that the slugger stayed in the game is a positive sign that he avoided an injury, but this is certainly a situation to monitor considering the effect wrist injuries -- even minor -- can have on a hitter's power. Myers is currently slashing .258/.329/.470 with 14 home runs and nine steals through 79 games.
Jun 17 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run -- his 13th of the season -- in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Brewers. It is no secret that the slugging first baseman was mired in a lengthy slump, but it appears that he is beginning to flip the script over the last week, batting .308 (8-for-26) with a homer and two steals in seven games. Despite his on-again, off-again production, Myers' overall numbers (.261 average, 13 homers and eight steals) are on par with last year's breakout season.
Jun 14 2017Myers went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Reds. The steals were the first baseman's seventh and eighth of the season, bringing his total closer to his mark of 12 home runs after having both categories match each other at 28 last year. Myers had been struggling in his previous 20 games, batting .171 with an astronomical 38.8 strikeout rate over that span. His overall slash line of .260/.315/.472 is buoyed by a red-hot start to the season, but fantasy owners are hoping that the 26-year-old is snapping out of his prolonged slump with Tuesday's solid showing at the plate.
Jun 11 2017Myers (illness) is playing first base and batting third during Sunday's game against the Royals.Myers was scratched from Saturday's lineup with flu-like symptoms but is feeling well enough to rejoin the heart of the Padres' lineup Sunday. The 26-year-old currently boasts a .261 average with 12 home runs, 31 RBI and six stolen bases.
Jun 10 2017Myers (illness) was scratched from the lineup Saturday with flu-like symptoms.Myers was originally slotted into the three-spot at first base, but was removed hours before the game after feeling ill. The Padres shifted Jose Pirela to first and placed Hunter Renfroe into the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Royals. Myers should be considered day-to-day and is likely to return Sunday.
Jun 8 2017Myers went 2-for-3 with two runs during Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks. It was the first multi-hit showing from Myers in 11 games, and he now has just two extra-base hits through his past 45 at-bats. While his current stretch is a touch concerning, Myers still sports a respectable .261/.314/.483 slash line with solid counting stats: 12 home runs, 31 RBI, six stolen bases and 32 runs.
Jun 1 2017Myers went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Cubs. The slugger's early-season power binge has slowed down over the past couple of weeks, but he didn't leave his fantasy owners high and dry, picking up his second steal in four games. While the stolen bags were a welcomed sight, Myers is mired in a 6-for-37 slump over his last 10 games, dragging his batting average down to .265 in the process. The Padres have two off days scheduled over the next five days, and the extra rest may be just what the doctor ordered for the struggling star.
May 28 2017Myers is back in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.Myers was held out of action Saturday after back-to-back hitless performances, but he'll be back at first base and batting third for the series finale. Since May 5, Myers is batting just .169 with 24 strikeouts, so perhaps the day off will help him right the ship.
May 27 2017Myers is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.Yangervis Solarte will get the start at first base Saturday with Myers getting the day off. Myers is mired in a slump at the moment, batting just .163 over his last 49 at-bats. He figures to return to the lineup Sunday after his rest day.
May 25 2017Myers went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBI in Wednesday's win over the Mets.Wednesday's two-hit performance snapped an 0-for-16 stretch for the All-Star first baseman. Even after the five-game slump, Myers still owns a solid .275/.319/.529 slash line through 48 games.
May 16 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. The slugger's recent power surge continued with his fourth long ball over his last seven games. Unfortunately, those homers have represented four of the 26-year-old's six hits during that span, dropping his batting average to .293 on the season. Myers' owners won't be complaining about the recent hit drought, as his 11 home runs and 27 RBI put him on pace to exceed last year's career bests of 28 and 94 respectively.
May 12 2017Myers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 6-3 win over the White Sox.It was Myers' ninth homer of the season, a towering shot into the left field seats. He has a modest five-game hitting streak, and now holds a .298/.327/.570 slash line on the season. Keep him installed as a regular in your fantasy lineup.
May 10 2017Myers was lifted in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 11-0 loss to the Rangers, but there was no report of any injury.Anytime a star player is removed from a game, there is usually concern regarding a potential injury. That didn't seem to be the case with Myers when he was lifted after a three-run seventh inning that effectively put the game out of reach for the Friars. A little extra rest couldn't hurt slugging first baseman, as he is slashing just .269/.345/.385 through seven May games after his torrid month of April (.310/.325/.593).
May 4 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Wednesday's 11-3 loss to the Rockies.Myers was one of the few San Diego hitters to have success against Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela, plating Jabari Blash with a fifth-inning two-bagger. The 26-year-old first baseman now has hits in four straight games, a stretch that includes a pair of homers and eight RBI. He has near sole possession of the lead in most team offensive categories, as his average (.314), home runs (7), RBI (22) and hits (38) all represent high-water marks on the Padres.
Apr 30 2017Myers went 1-for-6 with a three-run, game-winning home run in the 12th inning to help beat the Giants 5-2 on Sunday. It was Myers' second home run in as many days, and he now has seven on the season to go with a .310 average and 20 RBI in 117 plate appearances. While his fantasy owners aren't too happy that he's stolen only two bases, they aren't complaining about anything else. Myers is showing that his breakout 2016 was no fluke, at least in the power department.
Apr 30 2017Myers led the Padres' offense Saturday with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. He hit his his sixth home run, drove in three, stole his second base and scored twice in a 12-4 win over the Giants. The slugging first baseman continued his torrid April, smashing a 433-foot homer that capped off an eight-run sixth inning for the Friars. Myers hasn't been able to replicate the 28-steal pace he set in 2016, but he is proving that last year's power surge was no fluke. If the 26-year-old can stay healthy and avoid a second-half slump like he experienced last year, he could be in for a monster season.
Apr 24 2017Myers went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Diamondbacks. It was Myers' fifth home run of the season, and his breakout 2016 has continued in the early going of 2017. The Friars' first baseman now has a .345/.364/.631 slash line with 14 RBI in 84 at-bats. While he's only stolen one base and is unlikely to match his 28 swipes from last year, his owners certainly aren't complaining otherwise.
Apr 21 2017Myers went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks. The slugger continues to impress early in the season, leading the majors with 25 hits and eight multi-hit performances. The power has been as advertised, but last year's 28-steal speed hasn't showed up. In fact, he has been caught stealing on his only two attempts so far. Myers had an 82-percent success rate on steal attempts last season, so the speed wasn't fluky and may still arrive. Even if it doesn't, owners have to be pleased with their returns from the 26-year-old early this season.
Apr 10 2017Myers went 4-for-4 with a single, double, solo home run and triple -- in that order -- with two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. It was the first cycle of Myers' career and the second in team history. The 2016 All-Star is now hitting .382 in the early going with three home runs and seven RBI. He has yet to swipe a base, but Myers certainly has it in him to put up another 20-20 season in 2017.
Apr 9 2017Myers went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Giants. It was Myers' second home run of the season, and he's now hitting .300 in the early going. Some may be wary of Myers replicating his 28-homer, 28-steal season in 2016, especially since he doesn't have much protection around him in San Diego's lineup. The 26-year-old certainly has the skills to post another 20-20 campaign, though, and he's well on his way.
Apr 7 2017Myers provided the only offense for the Padres on Thursday, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 10-2 loss to the Dodgers. The slugging first baseman has picked up right where he left off last season, batting .313 (5-for-16) with a homer through four games this season. There was some uncertainty regarding whether or not the 26-year-old could replicate last year's 28/28 campaign, but he is off to a great start so far. Moving to first base last season was one of the main reasons Myers was able to stay on the field for more than 100 games for the first time in his career, and owners are hoping for more of the same in 2017.
Apr 5 2017Myers went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in a 4-0 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday. After striking out twice in the opener, he looked a lot better this time around. Myers is coming off a huge year in which he posted 28 homers and steals apiece, and at 26, he's right in the heart of his offensive prime. Another big campaign should be in the works, although fantasy owners shouldn't expect Myers to repeat that steal total.
Mar 20 2017Myers (neck) went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Sunday's spring loss to the Reds.Myers had to exit Thursday's contest after experiencing some tightness in his neck, but the injury was never considered serious. The 26-year-old confirmed that sentiment by going 3-for-6 in two starts this past weekend. He will continue to see action in the final couple weeks of spring training before assuming his role as the Padres' everyday first baseman and middle-of-the-order power threat.
Mar 16 2017Myers exited Thursday's game with what has been confirmed as a neck spasm, Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune reports. "The spasm resolved. The report I got was he's completely fine," said manager Andy Green on Thursday.Myers was replaced by a pinch-runner during Thursday's Spring Training game against the Royals after going from first to third. According to Lin, Myers was seen walking with team trainers after his exit. Fortunately, it appears that Myers' neck spasm is no longer an issue. That said, the Padres may opt to hold Myers out for a day or two as a precautionary measure.
Mar 16 2017Myers was pulled from Thursday's game against the Royals with a tight neck, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. There's yet to be an indication regarding the severity of Myers' ailment, but more information should be available in the near future. As a precaution, the club may opt to rest their hard-hitting first baseman for a couple days to avoid further injury, but there's no reason to believe his Opening Day availability is in jeopardy.
Mar 10 2017Myers went 2-for-2 with a solo homer run in Thursday's spring training loss to the Brewers. The 2016 All-Star continues his hot spring, batting .412 (7-for-17) with a pair of homers and a pair of steals. Myers is coming off of a career-year where he delivered 28 home runs and 28 stolen bases for the Friars. The key for his breakout season was his ability to stay healthy and play over 100 games for the first time in his young career, something that can be attributed to his conversion from an outfielder to a first baseman. Myers said he is targeting a 40-40 season in 2016, which isn't as improbable as it initially sounds considering he is entering his prime years, but he will have tremendous value at a shallow first base position even if he simply repeats last year's totals.
Feb 16 2017Myers is targeting a 40-homer, 40-steal season in 2017, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers' former teammate, Matt Kemp, infamously made a similar prediction in 2012 and fell short of his lofty 50-50 goals. It certainly would be quite the jump in power and speed for the 25-year-old first baseman after he put up career-highs in both homers (28) and steals (28) last year. Fantasy owners would be content with a repeat performance of last year and a clean bill of health, but the statement from Myers shows that he feels he is capable of bringing more to the table. The 40-40 mark seems outlandish, but it's actually more plausible than it seems at first. Last year was the first time Myers surpassed the 100-game mark in a season and his body's lack of conditioning to that sort of workload could be a big reason why his performance dropped off significantly in the second half (.286 with 19 homers and 15 steals in the first half). He even cited that his ego (after becoming an All-Star) got in the way of his consistency and contributed to his post-All-Star slump. No one is going to project Myers to reach the 40-40 mark this season, but this is a good sign for his fantasy prospects that he is not content with the tremendous growth he experienced last year.
Jan 16 2017Myers agreed to a six-year, $83 million deal with the Padres on Monday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports. The Padres decided to lock up the 26-year-old, who is coming off of a breakout 2016 campaign in which he slashed .259/.336/.461, mashed 28 home runs, and stole 28 bases. Myers presents a bit of long-term risk, as he missed significant time due to injuries during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. If he can stay healthy, it appears that Myers will be a cornerstone in the Padres' lineup for the foreseeable future.
Sep 23 2016Myers finished 2-for-3 including a three-run home run in Friday night's 7-2 win over the Giants. After failing to reach base with a three-strikeout night on Thursday, snapping an eight-game hit streak, Myers started things off right for San Diego in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run shot to center -- his 28th homer of the season -- giving his club a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The 25-year-old first baseman would also cross home in the Padres four-run fifth after reaching base on a single. Myers now sports a cool .261/.338/.473 line on the season.
Sep 20 2016Myers hit a solo home run and walked twice in a 1-for-2 game Monday against the Diamondbacks.Myers has seven extra-base hits and a .266/.342/.484 line in September. He had a brutal August (.216/.283/.361), but his recovery in the season's final month will go a long way in convincing people this breakout season wasn't the result of a couple early fluky months.
Sep 12 2016Myers is not in the lineup for Monday's contest with the Giants.Myers hasn't been great at the plate lately, batting a mere .178 in his past 30 games. He'll get a day off to rest while Yangervis Solarte slides over to cover his absence at first base.
Sep 1 2016Myers went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored against the Braves on Thursday. This has been a breakout year for Myers, but he'd been slumping badly over his last nine games, hitting just .086 with a brutal 16 strikeouts in 35 at-bats. Of course, that's just the latest in a longer trend -- after a rip-roaring first half of the season (19 homers, 15 steals and a .286 average in 87 games), Myers has been quite pedestrian since the All-Star break, hitting barely over the Mendoza Line with just five homers and nine steals in 41 contests.
Aug 30 2016Myers (illness) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Braves. After being a late scratch due to a stomach virus Sunday, Myers will make his return to the lineup in time for San Diego's series opener in Atlanta. Myers has had a major drop-off in production since the All-Star break, slashing just .204/.311/.338 with four home runs and 13 RBI over 38 games. He'll have a tough matchup Tuesday when he faces Atlanta ace Julio Teheran.
Aug 28 2016Myers was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Marlins due to a stomach virus. The All-Star first baseman was initially slated to man the third spot in the lineup, but apparently felt ill after warmups and will now be given the day off to recover from what's likely a minor issue. With Myers resting, Yangervis Solarte is now slated to move over from the hot corner to start at first base, while Alex Dickerson will enter the lineup after previously being in line to serve in a bench role.
Aug 22 2016Myers is back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.Myers had gone nearly a full month without a day off dating back to July 3, a stretch in which he hit just .235/.336/.378 with three home runs in 26 games. We'll have to see if the day off refreshes him for the stretch run and he can rediscover the power he has shown for much of the season (career high 23 home runs, .478 slugging percentage in 120 games).
Aug 21 2016Myers is out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup against the Diamondbacks.San Diego's slugger will have his first day off since July 22, giving way to Brett Wallace at first base. Myers will likely return to the lineup Monday when the Padres begin their series against the Cubs.
Aug 13 2016Myers finished 1-for-3, hitting his 23rd home run of the season, in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Mets. With two outs in the ninth, Myers crushed his 23rd homer of the season, a solo shot off closer Jeurys Familia to retie the game. Though the Mets would eventually go on to win the game in the 11th inning, Myers' blast was the second of two astonishing home runs from the Padres. The first baseman now has a slash line of .276/.354/.500 on the season and remains one of the few bright spots in the San Diego lineup.
Aug 1 2016Myers went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, a steal and a run in Monday's win over the Brewers. That's three steals in the last two games for Myers, who has swiped 20 bags after never topping six in any previous major league season. Just like that, the 25-year-old has gone from a disappointment looking to regain his power stroke to a member of the 20-20 club. Expect Myers to keep running as the Padres look to eke out runs by any means possible.
Jul 31 2016Myers had an RBI groundout , two walks, two stolen bases and a run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the RedsThe slugging first baseman was on base frequently in the loss and made the play of the game when he swiped home in the sixth. Myers took advantage of a momentary lapse by Reds starter Homer Bailey to race to the plate without a throw. The 25-year-old has had a mediocre month of July at the plate, but has reached base safely in five straight, in part due to the six walks he's drawn over that span.
Jul 22 2016Myers is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals. The 25-year-old was hit by a pitch Wednesday (his first HBP this season) but his absence Friday is not believed to be injury-related in any way, just a routine day off. It seems like Myers could use a breather, as he's 2-for-22 over his last six games and 4-for-25 since the All-Star break. Brett Wallace will get the nod at first base.
Jul 15 2016Myers went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Friday's win over the Giants.Myers picked up right where he left off prior to the All-Star break, reaching base three times and capping off the scoring with a solo blast to center in the fifth inning. The slugger is finally fulfilling the potential that made him a top prospect a few years ago, and his 20 home runs and 61 RBI are just two of the career-highs he has already set this season.
Jun 29 2016Myers homered, stole a base, scored twice and knocked in three runs in a 1-for-2 game Tuesday against the Orioles.Myers drew three walks for the second time this year as well. He tied a career high with his 36th extra-base hit of the season as he has finally managed to reproduce the production he flashed in his rookie campaign with the Rays in 2013. He hit .293/.354/.478 that season, and Tuesday's performance brought his 2016 line to .284/.343/.530.
Jun 25 2016Myers went 3-for-5 with a bases-loaded double, solo homer, five RBI and two runs in Friday's 13-4 victory over the Reds.He got his banner night started with a 422 foot-shot to center in the first, and following an RBI single in the fourth, emptied the bases with an eighth-inning double that brought home Adam Rosales, Brett Wallace and Travis Jankowski. The 25-year-old has exploded in June, a month in which he's generated a .349/.420/.802 line, along with 10 homers and an astounding 28 RBI. Myers has driven in 11 runs in the last nine games alone, and has 19 extra-base hits overall this month.
Jun 8 2016Myers generated all the Padres' offense Wednesday against Atlanta, going 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in a 4-2 loss. The rest of the team put together managed just three hits (all singles) against Braves starter Julio Teheran and closer Arodys Vizcaino. Meanwhile, Myers remains white hot, having collected five straight multi-hit games with four homers and two doubles in that span. A .259 with a .720 OPS hitter as recently as May 29, Myers has been surging in a big way since then, raising his average to .294 and his OPS to .833. Unfortunately for the Padres, they've gotten precious little offense out of anyone but Myers, Matt Kemp and Yangervis Solarte.
Jun 2 2016Myers went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, three RBI and two runs against the Mariners on Wednesday night. He's thoroughly enjoyed the first three games of this series, racking up six hits in 12 at-bats. Myers' production has come in fits and starts -- this was his first homer since May 14 -- but his fantasy-relevant contributions across all five major offensive categories make him well worth owning in most formats.
May 27 2016Myers (forearm) is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks. After a two-game absence, Myers returns to the Padres lineup Friday and will bat second in the order against Robbie Ray. Brett Wallace, who started at first base in place of Myers, will slide back over to the hot corner Friday and bat sixth in the order. Myers is 0-for-1 with two walks lifetime against Ray.
May 27 2016Myers went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run, two walks and a strikeout Friday against the Diamondbacks.Myers missed the last two games due to a forearm injury, but he didn't miss a beat getting on base three times in his return to the lineup. Myers boosted his OBP over .300 for the first time since May 11, and has reached base in five of his last six games.
May 25 2016Myers is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. As expected, Myers will sit out of the series finale in order to get a little extra rest for his ailing forearm. With the team's off day Thursday, though, there's a decent chance that the 25-year-old first baseman could return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks. For Wednesday, however, Brett Wallace will take over at first base and bat fifth in place of Myers.
May 25 2016Myers (forearm) is not expected to be in the starting lineup Wednesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Although Myers was adamant that he's fine, it sounds like manager Andy Green is intent on playing it safe and giving Myers another day of rest (and three in total with Thursday's team off) after his latest setback. Myers acknowledged that he felt something in his forearm Monday night, in the same spot he experienced some tightness earlier this month.
May 24 2016Myers said his absence from Tuesday's lineup was not injury-related, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. He did acknowledge that he felt something in his forearm Monday night, in the same spot he experienced tightness earlier this month, but Myers said he tested the forearm and that it felt fine. It sounds like Myers is confident he will be back in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale, but the training staff and manager Andy Green will have the final say.
May 24 2016Myers is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. The Padres did not immediately provide a reason for Myers' absence, but according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Myers had his wrist wrapped following Monday's game. Of course, Myers missed a large chunk of time last year with a wrist injury, and he's battled some tightness in the area in recent weeks, but there's been nothing to suggest he's worse than day-to-day after this setback. Myers has seen his production tail off dramatically this month (.572 OPS) following a strong April (.853 OPS).
May 17 2016Myers (forearm) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants.A bout of forearm tightness resulted in Myers' late scratch from Sunday's lineup, but it seems the two full days of rest -- Monday was a team off day -- were sufficient to treat the ailment. Myers will bat leadoff against lefty Madison Bumgarner on Tuesday, marking his second start atop the order this season. The 25-year-old Myers is 11-for-39 with two homers and 10 strikeouts against left-handed pitching so far this season.
May 15 2016Myers was a last-minute scratch Sunday due to forearm tightness, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The scratch of Myers on Sunday was a tough break for fantasy owners in daily formats, as the move wasn't announced until moments before the first pitch. The intriguing aspect of this decision is that the calf cramp that forced Saturday's early exit was apparently not to blame. Instead, it was forearm tightness that prevented him from being able to start Sunday. The team will likely reevaluate Myers during their day off Monday before deciding if he'll be ready for action Tuesday against the Giants.
May 15 2016Updating a previous report, Myers (calf) has been scratched from Sunday's lineup, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers had to exit Saturday's game due to a left calf cramp, but had apparently passed all mobility tests, and was in Sunday's original lineup. In his stead, Brett Wallace will take over at first base. Consider Myers day-to-day heading into Tuesday's matchup with the Giants.
May 15 2016Myers (calf) is in the starting lineup Sunday against the Brewers, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers, who homered in Saturday's win, was forced to exit that game early due to a left calf cramp. The injury won't cost him any starts, however, as he's back to first base and batting second in the order Sunday.
May 14 2016Myers was removed from Saturday's game against the Brewers in the ninth inning with a leg injury, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union Tribune reports.Myers finished the night 2-for-5 with his seventh homer of the season, but appeared to tweak something while running out of the batter's box during his final at-bat of the ninth. Jon Jay was called upon to pinch run for Myers, who will likely undergo further testing to determine the extent of his setback. If it's determined that Myers is due to miss multiple games, the Padres could recall James Loney from Triple-A El Paso to fill in at first base.
May 14 2016Manager Andy Green said following Saturday's 8-7 win over the Brewers that Myers exited the game due to a left calf cramp, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers, who went 2-for-5 with a home run in the game, was pulled in the ninth inning after reaching base on a fielder's choice, but it appears it was just for precautionary purposes while he battled the cramp. Fortunately for Myers, the injury isn't a serious one, and he could be back in the lineup as soon as Sunday.
May 14 2016Myers is in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup with the Brewers.Myers received a routine day off Friday, and will start at first base in Game 2 of the series with the Brewers. He will bat second in the order. He is hitting just .111 in his last three games.
May 13 2016Myers is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers. This seems to be a normal rest day for Myers, as he has only sat out of two contests so far this season. He's also in the midst of a 5-for-38 slump dating back to May 4, which may also have played a factor in the decision to give him a rest. Brett Wallace will slide over to take his spot at first base, while Adam Rosales enters the lineup at third base.
May 3 2016Myers went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBI Tuesday against the Rockies.Myers is getting excellent protection batting in front of Matt Kemp, and has taken advantage with hits in 15 of his last 16 appearances. The 25-year-old will liwkly take a small step back once his .392 BABIP regresses, but 2016 is still looking like a strong bounce-back campaign following an injury-plagued first season in San Diego.
May 1 2016Myers went 2-for-3 with a steal, two doubles, two walks, two runs and one RBI Saturday at the Dodgers.Myers scored the winning run in the fifth inning in a game he also collected his third stolen base of the season. He closed out April by hitting safely in 13 of his last 14 games to finish the month with a.302/.343/.510 slash line.
Apr 19 2016Myers went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer and a pair of strikeouts Tuesday against the Pirates.Myers opened the scoring for San Diego with a two-run shot trailing 3-0 in the fourth, igniting what would ultimately end up being a 5-4 comeback victory. The former Ray is on a four-game hitting streak after going hitless in three straight appearances, but he has also struck out at least once in every game he's played this season.
Apr 13 2016Myers is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies.Myers got the day off Tuesday, but he'll resume his duties as the Padres' primary first baseman Wednesday. The 25-year-old has gotten off to a nice start to the season, hitting two home runs and driving three runs already, making him a decent option in this series against a rebuilding Phillies squad.
Apr 12 2016Myers is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the the Phillies.Myers will get the day off Tuesday after getting the start in left field for Monday's series opener in Philadelphia. The Padres will trot Brett Wallace out to Myers' usual spot, first base, while Melvin Upton will take over in left field to shore up the defense. Still, Myers will likely be available off the bench Tuesday as a pinch-hitter and he should draw back into the lineup Wednesday.
Apr 8 2016Myers will get some practice reps in the outfield but manager Andy Greens stated that it is unrelated to the Padres' recent signing of James Loney, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reports.Myers has experience in the outfield, although he was a bit of a defensive liability away from first base last season. He will get some work in the outfield to stay sharp in the event that Green wants to use Brett Wallace at first base while keeping Myers' bat in the lineup. Still, Myers should be expected to stick at first base most of the time.
Mar 25 2016Myers went 1-for-4 with a home run in Thursday's spring training loss to Arizona. He's hitting .244 (11-for-45) with two home runs and six walks this spring.Myers will begin the season as the starter at first base. He looks healthy after a wrist injury limited him to just 60 games last season.
Feb 10 2016The Padres plan to use Myers at first base full-time in 2016.Myers played 22 games at first base and 42 in the outfield in an injury-shortened 2015 season. But after trading Yonder Alonso to the A's, there's no one substantially in the way of Myers at first base this year. The bigger concern is whether he's fully recovered from the wrist injuries that marred last year's season.
Oct 4 2015Myers (wrist) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, MLB.com's Bill Center reports.Myers has been on the bench for all three games of the series while dealing with wrist soreness. The 24-year-old has had a difficult time staying on the field for prolonged stretches since undergoing surgery earlier this season, and has appeared in just 60 games in 2015. He'll be spelled at first base by Derek Norris in the season finale.
Oct 3 2015Myers (wrist) remains out of the lineup Saturday. The Padres have just one game remaining after Saturday, so Myers has very little to offer fantasy owners at this point. Brett Wallace will start at first base with Alexi Amarista starting in left field Saturday.
Oct 2 2015Myers (wrist) is not in the lineup against the Dodgers on Friday.Myers exited Thursday's game with a reoccurring pain in his wrist stemming from a surgery he had done early in 2015. It's unclear how much he will play the rest of the season considering the Padres are well out of the playoff race, however lack of available options in the outfield might force him to return to the lineup during the weekend.
Oct 1 2015Myers exited Thursday's game with left wrist soreness.Myers continues to deal with the effects of the wrist he had surgery on earlier in the 2015 campaign. Given the limited available healthy bodies in the outfield, it's unclear what the Padres will do if Myers is unavailable again Friday.
Sep 29 2015Myers (wrist) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.Renewed soreness in Myers' surgically-repaired left wrist prompted the Padres to hold the 24-year-old out for two games last week, but evidently they aren't especially concerned with the setback. Injuries have limited Myers to 56 games so far this season, but he will have dual eligibility in 2016, having made 21 appearances at first base and 38 in center field this year.
Sep 27 2015Myers is out of the lineup Sunday due to a left wrist issue, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.Wrist problems have plagued Myers all season, but this setback looks to be very minor. Rather than have Myers play through some moderate pain, the Padres elected to give the first baseman two full days to recover, as the team has an off day Monday. Expect Myers to return to action for Tuesday's series opener with the Brewers.

Sep 23 2015Myers was scratched for precautionary reasons Wednesday as he was experiencing soreness in his left wrist, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. This is a bit concerning given that this is the same wrist Myers had surgically repaired earlier in the season. The Padres are classifying it as soreness for now, hoping that rest will take care of the issue. Consider Myers day-to-day ahead of Thursday's series finale against San Francisco, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Padres use extra caution given Myers' injury history on his left wrist.
Sep 23 2015Myers has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against San Francisco. The team has yet to provide a reason for Myers being scratched Wednesday, but Yangervis Solarte will take his spot as the leadoff batter and Travis Jankowski will take over in center field.

Sep 18 2015Myers went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 7-4 loss to the Rockies on Friday.Myers had some good matchups this week and he rewarded fantasy owners who took a chance on him. In four games this week, Myers has two homers, five RBI, and an OBP just shy of .500. Sep 14 2015Myers homered, doubled and knocked in four runs in a win Monday over Arizona. The home run was just Myers' seventh of the year as injuries have kept him off the field. Myers had been hitting just .212/.297/.333 in his nine games back entering Monday's game, and his two extra-base hits were just his third and fourth in the month. Myers has his season line up to .270/.328/.459, a solid mark for playing home games at PETCO Park.
Sep 13 2015Myers is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.Myers has seen consistent work between first base and center field since his return, but he'll rest Sunday for the afternoon contest. Interim manager Pat Murphy will turn to Brett Wallace at first base and Travis Jankowski in center.
Sep 9 2015Myers jacked a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rockies.Myers is just 3-for-18 since returning from the disabled list last week, but was at least able to put the Padres on the board Tuesday night. He should continue to occupy the leadoff spot for the Padres going forward, but given the wrist issues he's experienced this season, there's reason to be pessimistic about his offensive production the rest of the way.
Sep 4 2015Myers (wrist) has been activated from the disabled list and will start at first base Friday against the Dodgers. With Yonder Alonso still injured, Wil Myers will receive the start at first base in his return, batting sixth for the Padres. Sep 1 2015Myers will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday.Myers has been out since early June with tendinitis in his left wrist, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL last month. The outfielder finally appears close to a return, but with such a long layoff, he'll likely require several rehab games. That said, barring a setback, Myers could be on pace to return for the final two or three weeks of the regular season.
Aug 29 2015Myers (wrist) will most likely begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. While it hasn't been announced as of yet, it's likely Myers will head to High-A Lake Elsinore to begin his rehab assignment. At this point, it's not looking likely that Myers will be ready to rejoin the Padres when rosters expand on Sept. 1, though the team hasn't ruled out a return before the season draws to a close. In the meantime, Travis Jankowski is expected to serve as the Padres' regular option in center field while Myers remains sidelined.
Aug 14 2015Myers (wrist) took 40 swings with a light bat and 20 swings with his regular bat Friday, Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune reports. The incorporation of a regular bat into Myers' workout Friday is a big step in the right direction as the outfielder works his way back from wrist surgery. Myers told reporters he was nervous prior to swinging his normal bat, but that he felt good after Friday's session. Still, Myers will need to test his wrist by hitting live pitching before he's ready to set out on a rehab assignment.

Aug 8 2015Myers (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Saturday. This is nothing more than a procedural move to free up a 40-man roster spot, as Myers has been out for close to two months already. Myers was shut back down recently due to irritation in his surgically-repaired wrist but there's a chance he could resume swinging a bat this weekend.
Aug 7 2015Myers (wrist) could resume swinging this weekend, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The Padres shut Myers back down late last month due to what was deemed "general soreness," but Assistant GM Fred Uhlman Jr. said earlier this week that the outfielder is now pain-free. A timetable for Myers' return remains uncertain, but it seems safe to assume he will not make it back within the initial eight-week window provided after his surgery.

After being re-evaluated, it sounds as though Myers' setback was minor, but it's unclear when he'll be ready to resume working out.
Jul 28 2015Myers (wrist) will be re-evaluated in five to six days, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.Myers has been shut down for the past couple of days while seeking a second opinion on his wrist. He's still dealing with general soreness and, as a result, will continue physical therapy while avoiding swinging a bat for the next five or six days. After that time frame, the outfielder will be re-evaluated.
Jul 26 2015Myers will be shut down for the next 2-to-3 days while a doctor examines his left wrist in Arizona on Monday, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.Myers recently began swinging the bat lightly, but was still experiencing renewed discomfort, even after having taken the previous month off to rest and recover. The visit with the doctor should allow Myers to see how he's coming along from his mid-June surgery to remove a bone spur, but given how problematic the wrist has been for the 24-year-old since May, it's hard to be optimistic about his outlook and availability for the rest of the season.
Jul 23 2015Myers will have his left wrist examined Friday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. If the wrist checks out OK, Myers will be cleared to start swinging a "light bat," likely starting with tee work and slowly ramping up from there. Myers underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his wrist back on June 18, and it's looking like his recovery will push closer to the original eight-week estimate, if not beyond.
Jul 18 2015Myers (wrist) is expected to begin swinging a bat next week, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Now a month removed from surgery on his wrist, Myers was cleared Friday to progress in his rehab. Jun 17 2015Myers (wrist) will undergo surgery Thursday to remove a bone spur from his left wrist. The Padres announced that Myers is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks. This news comes as a major blow to Myers and the Padres as the centerpiece of December's blockbuster trade is expected to be out until at least mid-to-late August. Myers had worked his way back from a month-long DL stint only to be placed back on the disabled list days later. The Padres will likely continue to use Will Venable as their regular center fielder, with Melvin Upton Jr. seeing opportunities against left-handers.
Jun 15 2015Myers was placed on the disabled list Monday with left wrist tendinitis. After missing over a month of action due to his ailing wrist, Myers returned last week from the injury, but lasted only three games before enduring another setback. The Padres are hoping that shutting him down a second time will resolve the issue, but things seem to be trending toward a second consecutive lost season for the 24-year-old. It's unclear how long he'll be out this time around, and even once he's cleared to return, it's questionable how quickly his power will come back. While Myers is out, Will Venable will enjoy regular duties in center field, while Yonder Alonso takes over as an everyday player at first base.
Jun 14 2015Myers is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.Myers has started each of the Padres' three games since his activation Thursday, but will get a regular maintenance day for the Sunday afternoon contest. Prior to suffering the wrist ailment, the 24-year-old Myers had been off to a strong start, posting a .340 OBP with five long balls and three stolen bases. The outfielder collected five base hits in just three rehab games, so the Padres wanted to get him back in their lineup while he was in a groove.

Jun 5 2015Myers (wrist) took 75 swings without pain during batting practice Friday, and is expected to go on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.Myers also took cuts Wednesday, and it appears he's progressing well from a wrist issue that sent him to the disabled list in mid-May. Barring a setback of some kind, he could rejoin the Padres' outfield at some point within the next couple weeks.
Jun 3 2015Myers (wrist) took batting practice Wednesday, but he is at least a week away from beginning a rehab assignment, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. It's encouraging to see that Myers is able to take swings, but the Padres will continue to be cautious with him, and it's looking like he will not return to the big club until at least the middle of this month.
Jun 1 2015Myers (wrist) could advance to on-field batting practice Wednesday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.Myers took some swings off of a tee over the weekend as he continues to work back from a wrist injury. He's still yet to swing at 100 percent, but that could come this week if he's able to go through with the BP session. Myers, who was placed on the DL on May 19, is hopeful to return by mid-June.
May 30 2015Myers (wrist) took 30 swings off a tee Saturday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers did not swing at 100 percent intensity, but it still represents a positive step in his recovery from a left wrist injury. May 29 2015Manager Bud Black said Myers (wrist) could resume swinging the bat this weekend, MLB.com's Bill Center reports. While Myers appears ready to start increasing his activity, Black cautioned that the first baseman/outfielder would likely be swinging at well below 100-percent intensity, at least initially. Myers was eligible to return from the DL on May 26, but he's probably not in line to be activated by the Padres until early- or mid-June.
May 26 2015Scans on Myers' injured left wrist revealed "marked improvement" Tuesday, but he remains without a timetable to begin swinging a bat, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Manager Bud Black said the scans showed less fluid buildup around the tendons of Myers' wrist, but the 24-year-old continues to experience soreness. The Padres will have Myers rest up and do some strengthening exercises for a few more days before determining his next course of action. Entering Tuesday's game against the Angels, the Padres have gone 4-9 and are averaging only 3.3 runs without their leadoff hitter in the lineup.
May 25 2015Myers will return to San Diego on Tuesday to undergo more scans and tests on his left wrist, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribunereports.Manager Bud Black said Monday that Myers is feeling better, but it seems the club wants to get a better idea of how the wrist is healing before clearing the outfielder to increase his activity. Myers took some swings in the cages back on May 17 but has been restricted from swinging since landing on the DL.
May 23 2015Myers (wrist) has not been cleared to resume swinging, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Manager Bud Black said it's "highly unlikely" Myers will be activated from the DL on Tuesday, when first eligible. It's not surprising given Myers' limitations, and a timetable for his return will be up in the air until he starts ramping up his activity. Will Venable has seen most of the time in center field for San Diego in his absence.
May 19 2015Padres manager Bud Black indicated Tuesday that the team will soon make a decision about placing Myers (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list, MLB Network Radio reports.Myers had been hoping to return for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, but Black's comments suggest that is unlikely to happen. A DL stint would only rule Myers out through Monday, as he hasn't played in a game since May 10. He did take some swings in a cage Sunday, but he still seems to be limited.
May 19 2015Myers (wrist) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. There has been speculation that a DL move is on the horizon for Myers, with manager Bud Black indicating earlier Tuesday that a decision is imminent, but nothing's been made official to this point. If a DL stint is deemed necessary, it could be backdated to May 10. Yangervis Solarte is starting at first base Tuesday with Cory Spangenberg leading off.
May 19 2015Myers (wrist) was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday. The Padres have been playing a man short for over a week and were forced to make a roster move with Myers' left wrist still presenting issues. Right-hander Cory Mazzoni was added in a corresponding move. Myers will be eligible to return May 26, but it's uncertain if he'll be ready by that time. He took some swings in the cages Sunday, though the swings weren't at maximum effort.
May 17 2015Myers (wrist) took some swings in a cage Sunday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers still isn't taking swings at maximum effort, but the progress is certainly encouraging. It's no surprise to see him sit out of Sunday's lineup - he was expected to be out through the weekend - but Tuesday remains the target date for his return.
May 14 2015Myers (wrist) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.Myers was sent back to San Diego on Wednesday to undergo testing on his left wrist, after he injured it during batting practice Tuesday. He missed time with a fracture in the other wrist last season, and the Padres still haven't provided an update on the latest injury. Will Middlebrooks will start at first base Thursday night, with Will Venable in center field.
May 14 2015Myers (wrist) has been diagnosed with tendinitis, and while he will likely be out for the next three or four days, he isn't expected to require a stint on the disabled list, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.Myers is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals, and it sounds as if he'll likely miss the rest of the series. With the Padres off on Monday, Myers may be targeting a return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs. His absence could lead to some extra at-bats for Will Middlebrooks and Will Venable, both of whom are in Thursday's lineup.
May 13 2015Myers will return to San Diego to undergo tests on his injured left wrist, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Myers was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup after aggravating the injury during batting practice, and the team will exercise caution by sending the young outfielder to see a hand specialist. Look for the Padres to provide an update on the severity of the ailment when they return to San Diego on Thursday. Until a timetable is known, Abraham Almonte will continue to see extra reps.
May 13 2015Myers (wrist) is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.Myers aggravated his left wrist in batting practice Tuesday, resulting in his scratch from the starting lineup, and he'll miss at least one more start as a result of the setback. He missed extended action last season with a wrist injury, but that was a fracture of his right wrist. Still, it seems likely the Padres will send Myers for testing to gauge the extent of the issue. Will Venable will make the start in center field Wednesday as Abraham Almonte leads off for a second straight day.
May 12 2015Myers was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a sore left wrist that he aggravated during batting practice, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. There has been no word yet on what the Padres will do with their lineup, but they could insert Cory Spangenberg and then move Yangervis Solarte or Will Middlebrooks over to take Myers' spot at first base. Consider Myers day-to-day for now.
May 10 2015Myers will make his third straight start at first base Sunday against the Diamondbacks. It looks like manager Bud Black will go with Myers as his primary first baseman while Yonder Alonso (shoulder) remains on the DL, which may allow him to gain eligibility at the position in certain fantasy leagues. Myers will also slot into the third spot in the order Sunday instead of his customary leadoff role, but that's likely only a byproduct of Matt Kemp receiving a day off.
May 9 2015Myers went 3-for-6 with two doubles in a 6-4 win over the Diamonbacks on Saturday.Myers continued to be productive Saturday and has become one of the best leadoff hitters in the NL. He has five homers, 19 RBI, a .298 average, and a league-leading 28 runs on the season.
May 8 2015Myers manned first base and went 4-for-5 including a double and a home run in the 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks Friday night.Myers has been one of the surprises of the season and a catalyst for the Padres offense at the lead-off spot all season long. This performance is a promising sign as he started May going just 1-for-13 and he'll look to build on that against Chase Anderson Saturday. .
May 5 2015Myers is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Giants.Myers has gotten off to a 1-for-13 start to May after ending April on a five-game hitting streak. He will take a seat Tuesday, marking his second day off this season, the first of which came back on Apr. 12. Will Venable will man center field while Cory Spangenberg leads off against right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
Apr 28 2015Myers was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in a losing cause against Houston Tuesday night. He's not a prototypical lead-off man, but he's doing a pretty fair impression. The Padres reworked their lineup this off-season, and the former mega-prospect has helped spark a much-improved offense with four home runs, 15 RBI, three stolen bases, and a solid .287 average.
Apr 21 2015Myers went 2-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 14-3 blowout win over the Rockies.Myers appears to be locked into the leadoff role for the Padres, where he's accrued a commendable .283 batting average to date, though only a .306 on-base percentage. Myers will probably need to begin drawing walks with more frequently to maintain his spot atop the order, but there's no rush to move him down while he continues to hit for both contact (19.4 K%) and extra bases (five doubles, one homer on the season).
Apr 21 2015Myers went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI Tuesday in a 7-6 win over the Rockies.Myers is hitting in the lead off spot for the Padres and is setting the table well at the top of the order, although his on-base percentage could stand be a bit higher. He only has one home run so far, but he has the kind of power that will play well despite his home park.
Apr 12 2015Myers is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.Myers will receive his first rest of the season Sunday in favor of Will Venable in center field. Through six games, he's batting .250/.276/.321 with four RBI and four runs scored, and should return to the lineup once again Monday
Apr 8 2015Myers led off for the Padres for the second straight game Tuesday and went 1-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base in the win over the Dodgers. He's gone a combined 1-for-8 with three strikeouts in the first two games, but Myers has surprisingly added a pair of stolen bases already. In his two seasons with the Rays, he went 11-for-14 over 175 games as a base stealer, but perhaps more steady opportunities to run are in order with the Padres using him as a table setter rather than a run producer.
Apr 2 2015Myers (illness) is back in the lineup for Thursday's game against Milwaukee.Myers will bat leadoff Thursday after missing time earlier in the week with an illness. He has put together a solid spring, batting .278 with three home runs. He has struck out 11 times in his 54 at-bats, with six of those strikeouts coming in his last four games. Myers is the likely candidate to lead off for the Padres once the season gets underway.

Mar 31 2015Myers (illness) was sent home Tuesday with an illness and will not play against Kansas City, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.Myers' illness will keep him out of Tuesday's game, but it hasn't been reported to be anything serious. Consider Myers day-to-day for now and he should be ready for Opening Day on Monday.
Mar 30 2015Myers could see some time at first base during the regular season in addition to his regular role as the Padres' center fielder, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.Myers made an appearance at first on Sunday with Yonder Alonso out with an illness. His ability to play first occasionally would allow Cameron Maybin to see some time in center. Manager Bud Black said, "As far as being creative, Wil is one guy we can be creative with," according to Brock. Myers' primary position should continue to be in center field, but his versatility and past experience could net him some appearances at first.
Mar 29 2015Myers has been taking some ground balls at first base during morning workouts, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.Myers only played four innings at first base with the Rays last season, and he'll likely just be an emergency option for San Diego. It's still unclear whether the 24-year-old outfielder will bat leadoff, as the Padres have a few different candidates for the role.
Mar 20 2015Myers has batted leadoff in every game he has appeared in this spring and could be the regular leadoff hitter this season, the Union-Tribune reports.Myers is batting .276 with three doubles, two home runs, and three RBI this spring. He has improved on his plate discipline thus far in camp with three walks against four strikeouts.
Mar 5 2015Myers will bat in the leadoff spot Thursday against Seattle.Cameron Maybin batted leadoff in San Diego's spring training opener Wednesday, but Myers will fill that role Thursday. Myers isn't a traditional leadoff man, but could still wind up landing there. Bud Black will likely continue to shuffle the top of the lineup around throughout spring training as leadoff is one of the question marks heading into the season.
Feb 27 2015Myers was mentioned by Bud Black as a lead-off candidate, Jeff Sanders of U-T San Diego reports. It's not often you see a player speculated to play center field and lead off while also seeing that same player as a possibility at first base. Myers' positional situation is still fluid and depends on how the multitude of players acquired by the Padres work out. He's definitely still a starter despite his rough 2014 (.222/.294/.320), but it's impossible to tell what stat categories he'll reliably fill in 2015.
Feb 27 2015Myers could be a candidate for the leadoff spot in the Padres' lineup, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reports.Myers isn't a prototypical leadoff hitter, but the Padres don't have a lot of other options. Manager Bud Black said that Yangervis Solarte, Will Venable, and Cameron Maybin will be the other potential leadoff men, but Myers is the only one on the list that is going to be an everyday starter. Myers has 11 career at-bats as a leadoff man, where he has gone 2-for-11 (.182) with three strikeouts and a .182 OBP. As it stands, Myers will likely be the leadoff man unless Solarte wins the starting job at third base over Will Middlebrooks.
Feb 24 2015Myers may be an option at first base depending on the Padres' battle for playing time in center field this spring, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. As it stands with camp getting underway, Myers is the projected starter in center field. The Padres have Cameron Maybin and Will Venable available as alternatives to roam center, and their performance and health this spring could matter more than Myers' ability to make the move back to the position from right field. As professional experience goes, Myers has just four innings logged at first base in his career, but it's believed that he can make the transition to the position if needed as he was previously used behind the plate and at third base in the minors. By comparison, Myers played 100 games in center field as a minor league player, including 67 games at Triple-A Omaha in 2012. Nevertheless, regardless of his position, Myers is looking to bounce back at the plate with a place near the heart of the rebuilt lineup in San Diego.
Dec 17 2014The Rays agreed to trade Myers to the Padres on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal with the Nationals, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.New GM A.J. Preller has been aggressive in upgrading an offense that ranked dead last in runs scored last season (535), with this move coming less than a week after the team acquired Matt Kemp from the Dodgers. Myers hit just .227/.313/.354 in April and May before suffering a wrist injury that cost him the better part of three months. He was worse upon his return in August, managing just five extra-base hits (one homer) over his final 34 games, but Myers showed enough in just 88 games in 2013 to earn AL Rookie of the Year honors. Further, he's still just 24 and has tremendous pedigree, so there's reason for optimism heading into 2015, even with the move to another pitcher's park and lingering concern about the health of his wrist.
Sep 26 2014Myers is out of the lineup Friday against the Indians.Myers will turn right field over to Matt Joyce, following a 3-for-16 showing in his past four starts. It's been a lost season for the 23-year-old Myers, as he missed a month and a half with a wrist injury and hasn't fully bounced-back, but he has improved upon his walk rate from a year ago, and his .279 BABIP lends some hope to a rebound in the batting average department.
Sep 20 2014Myers is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. With another hitless outing Friday, Myers is now batting just .203 since his late-August return from the DL. He'll sit Saturday in favor of Matt Joyce in right, but Myers will still make for an intriguing bounce-back candidate heading into 2015.
Sep 16 2014Myers is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.Myers has recorded just one hit in his last four games (15 at-bats), so manager Joe Maddon will turn to Matt Joyce to make the start in right field Tuesday. The 23-year-old Myers started all but one of the team's first 14 games of September and should continue playing close to everyday over the final two weeks.

He will work out with the team again Monday, and appears to be on track to start his rehab assignment this weekend barring a setback. Jul 9 2014Myers will have his right wrist examined Friday to determine if his wrist has healed well enough for the cast to be removed, the Tampa Tribune reports. He was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his wrist June 3, and the initial timetable projected that Myers would have to have his wrist in a cast for five-to-six weeks.Even if Myers' wrist has healed enough for the cast to be removed, he will have to go through rehab work. Rays manager Joe Maddon believes the best-case scenario for Myers would be a mid-August return to the lineup. If he can improve upon his pre-injury numbers, where he was batting .227 with five home runs, the 23-year-old Myers could be a boon to the Rays offense down the stretch run, especially if the Rays continue to fight their way into contention in a very winnable AL East and fairly open Wild Card race.
Jun 3 2014Myers has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right wrist and he'll be in a cast for five-to-six weeks, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. In addition to being in a cast for the rest of June, Myers will then need to progress through rehab work. He'll be formally evaluated by a specialist Tuesday, but the team suspects he could possibly be dealing with a nondisplaced fracture. If that's the case, he'll likely miss 2-to-6 weeks. May 28 2014Myers went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.Myers provided the only offense the Rays were able to muster up, and his second-inning long ball broke a 21-game homerless streak. Myers has seen his batting average fall to .228 following a 4-for-38 stretch, but perhaps the homer can help him break out of this slump.
May 24 2014Myers was seen working on footwork for playing first base Saturday, the Tampa Bay Tribune reports.James Loney is the Rays' everyday first baseman, but perhaps no team values versatility with its players as much as Tampa Bay. Myers' offensive production is more valuable in fantasy as an outfielder than it would be as a first baseman, but depending on the makeup of your team, first base eligibly for Myers could be a valued bonus.

Mar 27 2014Manager Joe Maddon said Myers (leg) will play on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.Myers was listed as day-to-day after he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game. The injury appears minor as he will play on Friday and will likely be fine for Opening Day.

Tampa Bay teammate Chris Archer finished third in the voting with 35 points. Myers, who received 23 of a possible 30 first-place votes, is Tampa Bay's third AL Rookie of the Year in the past six years, joining Evan Longoria (2008) and Jeremy Hellickson (2011). Jun 18 2013Myers started in both games of the Rays' doubleheader against the Red Sox on Tuesday, going a combined 1-for-7 with two Ks.It's hard to make a case for calling up Myers and not playing him almost every day, especially with Luke Scott seeing regular at-bats, so we should see plenty more of what the top prospect has to offer in the coming weeks.
Jun 18 2013Myers will make his MLB debut in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader at Boston, the Tampa Bay Times reports. As expected, Myers will start in right field and bat sixth in the order, despite reports that he would slot in at a lower spot. Considering the flexibility afforded manager Joe Maddon with Ben Zobrist, Matt Joyce, and Kelly Johnson at his disposal, Myers will likely be able to play nearly everyday. In any case, the 2012 Minor League Play of the Year may be in the majors to stay, as long as his success at the plate translates to the highest level of baseball.
Jun 17 2013Myers is expected to play mostly in right field and start out hitting lower in the batting order for the Rays, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The main emphasis for Myers is that he will see regular playing time for the Rays right away. The Rays have many versatile players that play all over the lineup and it would work well to have Ben Zobrist at second base, Myers in right, and Matt Joyce in left field against right-handers. The team plans to let him adjust to the pitching by having him hit lower in the order to start out. He also could play some in left field and DH if needed too. He will definitely look to provide a boost for the Rays in the race for the AL East.

Mar 8 2013Myers is hitting .286/.333/.429 with two extra-base hits and one RBI over 10 games this spring.Myers is a prolific hitter, which was no question prior to spring training. He will likely be starting the 2013 season at Triple-A Durham as the Rays want him to become a more well-rounded player as well as delay his eligibility to free agency and arbitration. Some areas of improvement they are looking for from Myers is to cut down on his strikeouts (140 in 2012) and improve defensively. He has been working at both corner outfield spots in the spring and will be called up when the time is right. He is an excellent player to have on the roster in keeper and dynasty leagues.
