Jul 12 2023The Tigers released Schoop on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being DFA'd by Detroit on Friday and clearing waivers, Schoop will now look to latch on with another club. The 31-year-old hasn't lived up to his $7.5 million salary, slashing just .213/.278/.272 on the year. Schoop figures to at least land a minor-league deal elsewhere, but his days of being a meaningful fantasy contributor are seemingly behind him.
Jul 7 2023Schoop was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has lost his 40-man roster spot halfway into the final year of a two-year, $15 million agreement with Detroit. He had slashed just .213/.278/.272 with zero home runs through 55 games (151 plate appearances) this season after also struggling badly at the plate in 2022. The 31-year-old infielder seems likely to pass through waivers unclaimed given that he's still owed about $3.5 million.
Jul 2 2023Schoop is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Colorado, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Pressreports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run Saturday, which is just his third multi-hit effort through 52 games this year. He came into Sunday with four starts in six games at third base since the demotion of Nick Maton last weekend, but Tyler Nevin will start at the hot corner in the series finale against the Rockies.
Jun 30 2023Schoop isn't in the Tigers' lineup Friday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with lefty Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado, the right-handed Schoop will remain in the dugout Friday amid his offensive woes. Andy Ibanez will fill in at the hot corner and bat third.
Jun 28 2023Schoop is not in the starting lineup versus the Rangers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has struggled throughout the 2023 campaign, and in the month of June the veteran infielder has hit just .171/.231/.200 over 35 at-bats while picking up just one extra-base hit. Zack Short will play third base with Schoop out of the lineup.
May 27 2023Schoop went 2-for-4 with one double and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was in the starting lineup for the first time in three games and delivered his second multi-hit game of the season, launching a double in the eighth inning after a single in his first at-bat. With the emergence of Zach McKinstry, Schoop has been relegated to part-time duties for the Tigers. For the month of May, the 31-year-old has driven in just two runs over 30 at-bats.
May 7 2023Schoop is starting at second base and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has become a part-time player with Zach McKinstry emerging as the top option at second base. The veteran is still searching for his first home run, and he's slashing just .204/.271/.259. Fantasy managers can turn their attention elsewhere moving forward, unless Schoop is able to earn more playing time at some point and also looks better at the plate.
Apr 1 2023Schoop will start against lefties this season but is only expected to start "sporadically" against righties according to manager A.J. Hinch, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop's day off in the second game of the season Saturday against Zach Eflin and the Rays looks like it may be significant. If Schoop ends up merely filling the small side of a platoon at the keystone, Zach McKinstry would stand to benefit.
Feb 22 2023Schoop lost weight in the offseason and feels healthier heading into the 2023 season, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop played at 247 pounds last year, and while he didn't say where he was at to begin camp, he is noticeably lighter. The veteran hopes that helps with his production, as he posted a career-worst .561 OPS across 131 games in 2022. Schoop will likely be the team's primary second baseman to begin the year, though he can also play some at first. He will look to rebound to his 2021 form, when he blasted 22 home runs and posted a .755 OPS.
Nov 4 2022Schoop doesn't intend to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract ahead of next week's deadline and plans to remain with the Tigers in 2023, Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop inked a two-year, $15 million contract extension with the Tigers last August, so he would be forgoing a $7.5 million salary for 2023 if he chose to opt out of his contract. After submitting a career-worst .561 OPS over 510 plate appearances in 2022, the 31-year-old was unlikely to approach that $7.5 million salary figure if he chose to become a free agent, so his decision to stick around in Detroit comes as little surprise. Coming off a wretched season, Schoop will likely have to compete for a regular role during spring training. Even if he emerges from camp as the victor in a job battle, Schoop probably won't have a long leash on an everyday gig.
Oct 4 2022Schoop will sit for the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop owns a .674 OPS in 14 games since his return from an ankle injury, though that's actually been enough to raise his season-long OPS, which now sits at .566. Harold Castro will get the start at second base.
Sep 28 2022Schoop isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went 3-for-8 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a strikeout over the last two games and will get a breather Wednesday. Miguel Cabrera will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup.
Sep 24 2022Schoop isn't in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Friday's series opener against the White Sox but will retreat to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Harold Castro is starting at the keystone and batting third.
Sep 21 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop is on the bench for the second straight contest and the third time in four contests. With the season winding down and Schoop having recently returned from a stint on the injured list due to a right ankle sprain, the 30-year-old looks like he could handle more of a part-time role down the stretch.
Sep 20 2022Schoop is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has gone just 3-for-21 (.143) in six games since returning from the injured list, so he will get a breather Tuesday. Harold Castro will man the keystone in Schoop's place.
Sep 13 2022Schoop is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It would not be surprising if the veteran infielder moves into more of a part-time role down the stretch. Schoop is hitting .145 with two home runs, 21 strikeouts and two walks over his last 20 games.
Sep 10 2022Schoop isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started Friday's matchup and went 0-for-4 with a run and a walk. He'll get a breather while Harold Castro starts at second base and bats cleanup.
Sep 8 2022Schoop (ankle) was activated off of the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went down with a sprained ankle on Aug. 20 and began a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday. He slashed .308/.471/.385 during his assignment and will now slide back into his starting role at second base for Detroit.
Sep 6 2022Schoop (ankle) will transfer his rehab assignment to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop will move up to the Tigers' top affiliate after he started in two games for High-A West Michigan over the weekend, going 3-for-7 with a double and two walks between those contests. If all goes well at Toledo while he picks up starts at second base and designated hitter Tuesday and Wednesday, Schoop could return from the 10-day injured list ahead of the Tigers' series opener Friday in Kansas City.
Sep 3 2022Schoop (ankle) began a rehab assignment with Single-A West Michigan on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has been out with a sprained right ankle for the last two weeks. His rehab assignment might not need to be a long one given the relatively brief nature of his absence.
Aug 31 2022Schoop (ankle) could begin a rehab assignment as early as this weekend, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has been on the injured list for just over a week and participated in some running and agility drills Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Although the 30-year-old is close to returning to minor-league game action, manager A.J. Hinch said that it's unlikely that Schoop returns in time for the team's series against the Angels that begins Sept. 5. However, it's possible that Schoop is available for the Tigers' series in Kansas City that begins Sept. 9.
Aug 23 2022The Tigers placed Schoop (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Detroit had been hopeful that Schoop's sprained right ankle would show enough improvement following Monday's off day for him to return to action at some point within the next few days, but his move to the IL suggests he wasn't healing as quickly as anticipated. The Tigers called up Zack Short from Triple-A Toledo to provide depth in the infield while Schoop is out, but Kody Clemens and Willi Castro will likely be the primary candidates to fill in at second base for the injured 30-year-old.
Aug 21 2022Schoop (ankle) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Schoop has been adamant that his Grade 1 right ankle sprain isn't a major concern, he's not out of the woods for a potential stint on the injured list. According to Evan Woodbery of MLive.com, the Tigers will re-evaluate Schoop following Monday's off day before determining whether or not he's fit to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Giants, or if he'll need a more extended break. Willi Castro will spell Schoop at the keystone Sunday.
Aug 20 2022Schoop suffered a sprained right ankle Saturday against the Angels and is day-to-day, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He injured his ankle while trying to avoid a tag at home plate and was replaced by Kody Clemens at second base. Schoop was hitting .138 with 20 strikeouts in 16 games this month coming into play Saturday.
Aug 15 2022Schoop went 2-for-8 with a solo home run and two runs scored across both games of Monday's doubleheader against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop got Sunday off but returned for both games Monday. The veteran infielder struggled in Game 1, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, but he looked better in the nightcap as he blasted his ninth home run of the season. Unfortunately, Schoop has more frequently looked like the Game 1 version of himself this year, as he's batting just .203 with a .554 OPS.
Aug 14 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started the last seven games and will head to the bench after hitting .160 with one home run, four RBI and two runs during that span. Willi Castro will shift to the keystone while Akil Baddoo starts in left field.
Aug 7 2022Schoop went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly in a 9-1 win over the Rays on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop picked up his eighth home run of the season as part of a three-RBI performance. However, the home run came off an eephus pitch from position player Yu Chang, who was brought in to pitch after the Rays basically conceded the game. Schoop remains ice cold and is slashing .195/.234/.299 over the past 30 days. The 30-year-old second baseman is on pace for the worst full season of his career.
Aug 5 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has a .478 OPS in 14 contests since the All-Star break and will take a seat Friday after starting the past four games. Willi Castro will come in to play second base while Akil Baddoo starts in left field.
Jul 31 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Willi Castro will pick up the nod at second base while Schoop sits for the first time since the All-Star break and only the sixth time all season. Over his 10 starts coming out of the All-Star break, Schoop has gone 7-for-36 (.194 average) with a home run, four RBI and three runs.
Jul 28 2022Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop and Willi Castro each hit solo home runs, but the Detroit offense was fairly stagnant otherwise. It's been a disappointing season for Schoop, who now has seven home runs and a .560 OPS. The veteran blasted 22 home runs and registered a .755 OPS last year. His current OPS would be the worst of his 10-year MLB career.
Jul 12 2022Schoop went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Games like this have been few and far between for Schoop most of the year, who is batting just .216 with a .591 OPS. However, the veteran has been much better this month with a .370 average and nine runs scored across 12 games. Schoop has proven himself a capable hitter at the MLB level in the past, so he may be able to sustain some success down the stretch.
Jul 11 2022Schoop is not in the starting lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop will get a breather after he went 12-for-29 with a double, an RBI, seven runs and four stolen bases over the last eight games. Harold Castro will take over at second base and bat third in Game 1.
Jul 7 2022Schoop went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Thursday in a 2-1 victory over Chicago. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop singled and stole second in the second inning. It was the third straight game he swiped a bag. The sudden outburst of speed is a bit surprising for the 30-year-old as he's never stolen more than two bases in any previous season. The second baseman has turned it on in July, going 11-for-27 with a double and four stolen bases.
Jul 6 2022Schoop went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop now has stolen bases in consecutive contests, giving him four steals for the season. That's double his previous career best, so speed has never been a huge part of the veteran's game. Schoop has gotten off to a hot start in July, batting .435 across six games, and the steals are boosting his fantasy value even further.
Jul 5 2022Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI on Monday in the Tigers' 5-3 win over the Guardians in the second half of a doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was the standout performer of the Tigers' sweep of the twin bill, as he finished the day 6-for-8 with a stolen base, three runs and an RBI while picking up starts in both contests. The big day was much needed for Schoop, who had produced six hits combined over his previous nine contests. He's still sitting on a lowly .207/.238/.323 slash line for the season, but Monday's performance likely bought him some extra security in an everyday role.
Jul 4 2022Schoop went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in a Game 1 victory during Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was perfect at the plate Monday with four singles, including a base hit in the seventh followed by his second steal of the year. Since his last game with at least three hits May 30, Schoop has posted a .515 OPS over 28 appearances. He's now slashing .203/.235/.317 with 23 runs scored through 75 games.
Jul 3 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers will turn to Kody Clemens to man the keystone while Schoop takes a seat for the first time since July 25. While starting in each of the Tigers' last five games, Schoop went 3-for-20 with a run scored.
Jun 25 2022Schoop isn't starting Saturday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop will get a day off after he hit .231 with a homer, two doubles, three runs and three RBI while starting in the last 10 games. Kody Clemens is starting at the keystone and batting eighth.
Jun 21 2022Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop is still hitting just .196 this season, though he's been a bit better lately. The veteran has hits in four straight games and seven of the last eight. Schoop only has one multi-hit performance during this stretch, however, so his batting average isn't climbing very rapidly. Despite the sluggish stats, Schoop is worth keeping an eye on after he hit .278 last season for the Tigers with 22 home runs and 78 RBI.
Jun 13 2022Schoop is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop will get a breather after he went 3-for-26 with eight strikeouts over his last seven games. Kody Clemens will fill in for Schoop at second base.
Jun 1 2022Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After collecting four RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader, Schoop tallied two more RBI on Wednesday, giving him 16 for the season. His .196 batting average still looks unsightly, though the veteran infielder is showing signs of life lately with a .317 average over his past 10 games.
May 31 2022Schoop went 2-for-7 with a walk, a home run and four RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop scuffled in the first game, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout, but he bounced back in the second game and drove in all of the Tigers' runs in a 4-0 win. That effort included his fifth home run of the season, and he boosted his RBI total to 14. Schoop will need more games like this to improve his .189 batting average, though he's done better lately with an even .300 average over his past 10 contests.
May 30 2022Schoop went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and a run scored in Monday's win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop is still batting just .185 this season even after the three-hit effort, but he's played better lately. The veteran infielder is batting .303 across his past eight games with a home run, two RBI and six runs scored. Schoop is a career .258 hitter, so he figures to keep trending upward after a slow start to the year.
May 23 2022Schoop went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been a struggle this season for Schoop, who is still batting just .169 with a .501 OPS, though he had a nice game at one of his former home ballparks, Target Field. This was the veteran's first multi-hit effort since May 10 and just his third overall this year. Perhaps the extra-base knocks will start to get Schoop going at the plate.
May 16 2022Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 3-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop left the yard for the third time this season in the bottom of the fourth inning, as he lifted his club to an early 2-0 lead. His struggles at the dish have carried over into May, however, going 10-for-54 with two homers, three RBI and five runs scored over 15 games.
May 10 2022Schoop went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and two runs scored in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop added a single in four at-bats during the second game, but he did his damage in Game 1. The veteran now has two home runs this season and is batting just .157, though at least he recorded three total hits Tuesday, which could get him going a little bit. Schoop batted .278 with 22 home runs a year ago.
May 5 2022Schoop is not in the lineup Thursday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has started all 23 games this season and is mired in a 1-for-19 slump and has a .367 OPS overall, so he'll take a seat Thursday. Harold Castro will man the keystone in his place and bat seventh.
May 1 2022Schoop went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Saturday's win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been a struggle this season for Schoop, who is batting just .145 with a .399 OPS. The veteran batted sixth Saturday and has slipped down to seventh in the order at times, so the Tigers are trying to get him going in a less prominent spot. Schoop did bat .278 each of the last two seasons, and he supplied 22 home runs and 84 RBI in 2021, so he'll likely get things going at some point based on his track record in the majors.
Apr 26 2022Schoop will start at second base and bat seventh in Tuesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager A.J. Hinch has elected to make big changes to the lineup for the series opener in Minnesota, as Jeimer Candelario and Schoop will both be dropped two spots in the order from the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, respectively. Schoop enters Tuesday with a three-game hitting streak, but he's still slashing a lowly .155/.210/.241 with five RBI and four runs over 15 games this season.
Apr 13 2022Schoop went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been a slow start for Schoop, as he's batting just .217 with a .685 OPS, though at least he now has his first home run of the season. The veteran infielder popped 22 home runs to go with 84 RBI and a .755 OPS in 2021, so better days should be ahead.
Apr 2 2022With Spencer Torkelson making the Opening Day roster, per Jason Beck of MLB.com, Schoop will likely serve as the Tigers' primary second baseman this season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop primarily worked at first base for the Tigers in 2021, but that's where Torkelson will be playing in 2022. That should shift Schoop back to the keystone, where he's played plenty in his nine-year MLB career. The veteran is coming off a solid season in which he provided 22 home runs and 84 RBI, and he should be a solid fantasy asset in the middle infield this year.
Mar 22 2022Schoop went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The home run was the first of the spring for Schoop after the veteran hit 22 long balls across 156 games for the Tigers last season. Schoop split his time between first and second in 2021, but if top prospect Spencer Torkelson takes over as the primary option at first in 2022, the former will likely see more time at the keystone.
Oct 3 2021Schoop is on the bench for Sunday's regular-season finale against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went 0-for-4 on Saturday but still hit .325 in his last 10 games. Eric Haase gets the start at first base while Dustin Garneau gears up to catch.
Sep 27 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in the loss to the White Sox on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old took Dallas Keuchel deep in the fifth inning before driving in Niko Goodrum with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The homer was his 21st of the season. Schoop also extended his hit-streak to eight games, though he only has three extra-base hits and three RBI in those contests.
Sep 12 2021Schoop went 2-for-6 with two runs scored in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings win over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop got plenty of chances at the plate in the 11-inning contest, and the veteran infielder continued his strong season. The 29-year-old is now slashing .281/.320/.441 with 20 home runs, 77 RBI and 78 runs scored across 139 games. He should continue to receive ample playing time and remain a solid fantasy option.
Sep 10 2021Schoop went 2-for-5 with a grand slam in Friday's 10-4 win over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder reached the 20-homer mark in style with a seventh-inning grand slam to put Detroit ahead for good. Schoop entered Friday in a 2-for-16 slump across his last four games. He's been a revelation for the Tigers this year with a .281/.320/.442 slash line, 77 RBI, 75 runs scored and a stolen base through 590 plate appearances while operating as an everyday option on the right side of the infield.
Sep 4 2021Schoop went 4-for-6 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Friday's 15-5 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old infielder tied Jeimer Candelario for the team lead in knocks as part of an 18-hit barrage, and he took Vladimir Gutierrez deep in the third inning. Schoop snapped a 25-game homerless drought with the blast, his 19th of the year, but since the beginning of August he's slashing a respectable .285/.310/.390.
Aug 25 2021Schoop went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI in Wednesday's 3-2, extra-inning loss to the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The strong offensive showing snapped Schoop out of a three-game, 0-for-13 stretch. In his last 10 games, the infielder has hit .256 with three doubles and five RBI. In August, Schoop has played 20 games and hit .292. Home runs have eluded the 29-year-old, as he's hit just one in his last 135 at-bats, but the overall offensive production has persisted enough to maintain Schoop's fantasy intrigue.
Aug 22 2021Schoop is starting at first base and batting second in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop had been playing at second base recently with Renato Nunez getting time at first, but the Tigers designated Nunez for assignment on Saturday. That should lead to more time at first for Schoop, as is the case Sunday. Willi Castro figures to be the primary option at the keystone. No matter where he's played, Schoop has produced offensively, as he's batting .286 with 18 home runs and 68 RBI through 120 games this year.
Aug 7 2021Schoop signed a two-year, $15 million contract extension with the Tigers on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal has an opt out after the 2022 season. Schoop was considered a trade candidate leading up to the July 30 deadline, but the Tigers held onto him and will now have him for at least one more season. The 29-year-old, who is slashing .289/.333/.468 with 18 home runs, 19 doubles and 64 RBI this season, is enjoying his best offensive campaign since 2017 with Baltimore. Schoop provides a bit of defensive versatility with his ability to move around the right side of the infield, although he's probably a better fit at first base, where he's played 75 games in 2021, at this point in his career.
Aug 4 2021Schoop went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double and a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop did all the damage for the Tigers in the 4-1 defeat, and the veteran infielder has been solid all season with 18 home runs and a .799 OPS. However, this was his first long ball since July 18 and only his third since the beginning of July. By contrast, Schoop had 10 home runs in June. While that homer surge was unlikely to last, it would be nice to see the 29-year-old finish the season with an uptick in the power department compared to his recent results.
Jul 29 2021Schoop (back) went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to back tightness, but he seemed no worse for the wear in his return. The veteran infielder has been solid this year for the Tigers with a .791 OPS, 56 runs scored and 61 RBI through an even 100 games. He should remain locked into a prominent spot in Detroit's lineup.
Jul 28 2021Schoop was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Twins due to back tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop snapped a 16-game hitting streak in Tuesday's win over Minnesota, and he's now dealing with a back issue. It's not yet clear whether he could be available off the bench.
Jul 19 2021Schoop went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one walk and two runs scored Monday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop drove in a run on a single to right field, and he delivered again in the sixth with another RBI single. He was just one of a few Tigers who got in on the action Monday night on the way to a 14-0 victory. Schoop has started the second half on a high note thus far, going 7-for-15 with a home run and six RBI through his first four games following the break.
Jul 18 2021Schoop went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two total runs scored in Sunday's 7-0 win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old got Detroit on the board with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Schoop added a two-run home run in the fifth and scored again in the seventh on Jeimer Candelario's two-run shot. In three games to begin the second half of the season, Schoop has gone 5-for-10 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored. He's slashing .284/.325/.476 with 17 homers, 56 RBI, 48 runs scored and a stolen base through 379 plate appearances overall.
Jul 12 2021Schoop, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Twins, finished the first half with a .277/.321/.466 slash line, 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 87 games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has been a bright spot for the Tigers and has carried over his performance from the shortened 2020 season, when he posted a .799 OPS and eight home runs in 44 games. While the veteran infielder may fall short of his career-best 2017 campaign, when he tallied 32 home runs and 105 RBI, he's still been able to post good numbers the past few years with Minnesota and Detroit.
Jul 4 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run, two additional RBI, two additional runs scored and a walk in Saturday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop went deep in the eighth inning for his 18th homer of the year, and he also plated two runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth while also crossing home plate in the fourth and fifth innings. Schoop also extended his hitting streak to five games and has now recorded four straight two-hit performances.
Jul 3 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Friday's loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was excellent for the Tigers in June (.340/.379/.698 slash line, 10 home runs and 27 RBI in 27 games) and he kept on rolling in the team's first game of July. Detroit is far from an offensive juggernaut, but Schoop has done his part so far, and the veteran infielder should remain a solid fantasy option while he's locked in at the plate.
Jul 1 2021Schoop went a combined 4-for-8 with a double, a run and four RBI in Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started at first base and batted second in each contest, and he logged multi-hit efforts in both wins. The veteran infielder drove in three runs in Game 1 and knocked in another in Game 2. The productive twin bill was a fitting cap to an outstanding June during which Schoop slashed .340/.379/.698 with 10 homers, 27 RBI and 19 runs.
Jun 23 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-2 win over St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder hit a game-tying two-run double in the third inning, then followed up with a solo shot in the fifth. Schoop has gone 29-for-78 (.372) with 10 homers, seven doubles, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base through 20 games in June. The massive surge has his slash line for the year up to .280/.333/.496 in 294 plate appearances.
Jun 22 2021Schoop went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop now has 14 home runs and 37 RBI through 69 games this season, and he's boosted his slash line up to a solid .277/.331/.481 after a slow start to the year. The veteran, who now has nine homers in June, should remain a primary offensive weapon for the Tigers.
Jun 19 2021Schoop went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old has homered eight times through 17 games in June, including three long balls in his last five contests. Schoop's strong run at the plate has lifted his slash line to .275/.329/.471 with 13 homers, 34 RBI and 32 runs scored across 280 plate appearances this year.
Jun 18 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Thursday's loss against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has posted three straight multi-hit games and extended his hitting streak to four contests. The veteran second baseman is hitting an excellent .386 through 57 at-bats in June.
Jun 16 2021Schoop went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's 6-5 win over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of Schoop's hits were singles, but he wasn't able to get directly involved on any scoring plays. The infielder has racked up five multi-hit efforts through 14 games in June. He's slashing .272/.323/.453 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 28 runs scored through 266 plate appearances as a near-everyday option in the lineup.
Jun 15 2021Schoop went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a sluggish start to the season, Schoop has gotten going at the plate, as he's now batting .265 with 11 home runs. The veteran infielder has collected six of those long balls this month alone, and it looks like he's back to delivering steady production for fantasy managers.
Jun 14 2021Schoop (hand) is starting Monday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the White Sox due to left hand soreness and didn't appear off the bench in the contest. He'll serve as the designated hitter Monday while Miguel Cabrera starts at first base.
Jun 13 2021Schoop was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the White Sox because of left hand soreness, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was originally slated to start the ballgame at first base, but apparently some discomfort in his hand will put him on the bench for the series finale. Harold Castro will replace him as the first baseman and bat ninth. Schoop can be considered day-to-day for the time being, with Detroit likely to provide further update later Sunday.
Jun 10 2021Schoop went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop extended his hitting streak to four games, and he has now collected at least one hit in 16 of his last 18 starts. The highlight of his production Thursday came when he took Justus Sheffield deep in the first inning to record his 10th homer of the season. Schoop is now hitting .266/.317/.446 with 29 RBI and 24 runs scored across 243 plate appearances.
Jun 5 2021Schoop went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double, a walk, five RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 9-8 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop drove in five of the Tigers' first six runs after he had an RBI double in the third, a solo home run in the sixth and then a three-run homer in the seventh. The 29-year-old has caught fire at the plate recently, slashing .368/.442/.711 with seven home runs, 18 RBI, 11 runs scored and a 9:15 BB:K over his last 19 games.
Jun 1 2021Schoop went 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop connected for his sixth home run of the season in the second inning with a runner on, then added his seventh home run on a solo blast in the sixth. The veteran infielder has been locked in lately with four home runs, seven RBI and a .421 batting average across his last 10 games.
May 30 2021Schoop went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two walks in Sunday's win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop made his presence felt in the middle of the lineup, reaching base in all but one of his five plate appearances and crossing home plate following an RBI single from Victor Reyes. The veteran infielder has been seeing the ball well of late and has hit safely in eight of the Tigers' last nine contests, posting four multi-hit games in that stretch.
May 29 2021Schoop went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a hit-by-pitch and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-1 victory over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop accounted for Detroit's final run of the contest with a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning. The homer was his second in the past three games and fifth overall this season. Schoop started the season slowly but has picked things up recently, hitting .319 (22-for-69) with three homers and nine RBI over his past 17 games.
May 27 2021Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop provided the only run the Tigers could muster against Shane Bieber when he slugged his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning. He's riding a six-game hitting streak, through he's managed only two RBI and one run scored in that span. For the season, Schoop is hitting .226/.268/.328 with 16 runs scored and 16 RBI across 190 plate appearances.
May 16 2021Schoop went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Saturday's 9-8 extra-inning win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder has four multi-hit performances in the last eight games, slashing .303/.361/.394 over that stretch, but Saturday's RBI were his first in 11 contests and Schoop hasn't homered since April 27. His .536 OPS on the year remains the worst mark of his career despite the recent hot streak.
May 12 2021Schoop went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three hits were singles, but Schoop will take it, as he entered the game batting just .190. The veteran batted .278 in 44 games for the Tigers last season and has proven himself to be a capable hitter at the MLB level, so he should be able to pick up his production at least a little bit heading into the summer.
May 6 2021Schoop went 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was Schoop's first multi-hit performance since April 22, and in the 11 games between then and Thursday, the veteran recorded just five hits in 40 at-bats. For the season, Schoop is batting .192, and he'll need to get hot at the plate to hold onto his regular playing time, though the Tigers may choose to feature youngers players at some point anyways.
Apr 27 2021Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop took Matt Foster deep in the eighth inning for his second home run of the season. The veteran infielder has yet to get going at the plate, as he's batting just .192 with a .492 OPS, but he should still see regular playing time at both first and second base for the Tigers, at least until the team potentially decides to audition some younger players.
Apr 26 2021Schoop is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harold Castro will enter the lineup in place of Schoop, who had started in each of the Tigers' last six games. Five of those starts came at first base, and that position will likely be Schoop's primary home moving forward with the Tigers likely to deploy the newly activated Miguel Cabrera at designated hitter in most games in an effort to preserve his health. The eligibility Schoop has gained at first base in addition to second base in most fantasy leagues gives him a nice boost, but his lack of production to date has mostly negated that increased positional flexibility. Schoop is slashing .174/.203/.217 with one home run, four RBI and seven runs while striking out at a career-high 29.7 percent rate through 74 plate appearances.
Apr 25 2021Schoop will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the return of Miguel Cabrera (biceps) from the 10-day injured list, the Tigers' infield gets a little bit more crowded. Cabrera is starting at first base Sunday, but the veteran will also serve as the DH often. Schoop figures to play frequently at first as well moving forward, though he should also see some time at second along with Niko Goodrum and Willi Castro.
Apr 21 2021Schoop went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been a slow start for Schoop, who's batting just .182 with a .453 OPS through 15 games, but it was good to see the veteran connect for his first home run of the season. Schoop has been playing more often at first base with Miguel Cabrera (biceps) out, which has left second base open to Niko Goodrum and Willi Castro.
Apr 18 2021Schoop is not in the lineup Sunday at Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started the past seven games but will head to the bench while mired in and 0-for-10 stretch. Harold Castro will take over at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's series finale.
Apr 11 2021Schoop is starting at first base and batting seventh in Sunday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was out of the lineup Saturday, but with Miguel Cabrera (biceps) hitting the 10-day injured list, he'll return to the fold and take over first base. Schoop generally plays second, though he might be asked to play more at first while Cabrera is out. Niko Goodrum will handle the keystone Sunday.
Apr 10 2021Schoop is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started at first base Friday, but he'll retreat to the bench Saturday with Miguel Cabrera starting at first and Niko Goodrum taking the keystone. Schoop should still play most days moving forward, but manager A.J. Hinch will find ways to get Goodrum and Harold Castro into the lineup and give Schoop some days off.
Apr 3 2021Schoop is starting at first base and batting fifth in Saturday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop started at second base in Thursday's season opener with Miguel Cabrera playing first, but with Cabrera shifting to designated hitter Saturday, Schoop will get first. There was talk during spring training of Schoop getting some run at third base this season, so it appears he may end up playing three different infield positions in 2021, which could make him a more useful fantasy asset if he picks up additional eligibility beyond second base.
Mar 14 2021Schoop will serve as the Tigers' designated hitter and will bat cleanup Sunday against the Orioles, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop will be making his 2021 Grapefruit League debut after he was a late arrival to spring training while he worked to resolve visa issues. Though he's currently behind the Tigers' other position players, Schoop will have plenty of time to get back up to full speed ahead of Opening Day. He's expected to begin the season as the Tigers' everyday second baseman, though the 29-year-old said Sunday that he also plans to work out at third base this spring in an attempt to increase his versatility, per Jason Beck of MLB.com.
Mar 11 2021Schoop has completed intake testing and was cleared to join his teammates Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Many players around the league faced visa issues as they returned to the country for spring training, but Schoop's took among the longest to resolve. He's finally ready to go with just three weeks remaining until Opening Day. Whether that's enough time for him to handle a full workload early in the season remains to be seen.
Mar 7 2021Schoop has finally made it to Florida following a visa-related delay but still has to go through intake testing before joining his teammates, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Several players around the league dealt with visa issues this spring, but few were delayed as long as Schoop was. He should be able to join team workouts within the next few days, however, giving him roughly three weeks to prepare for Opening Day. Whether or not that's enough time likely depends on how well he was able to stay in shape while away from the team.
Mar 2 2021Schoop's visa issues remain unresolved, so he's been stuck working out at home in Curacao, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Three of the five Tigers who faced similar issues have made it to Florida, but Schoop isn't one of the lucky ones. It remains unclear when he'll be able to join his teammates. Opening Day is still more than four weeks away, but if Schoop can't join the team soon, he may have some issues getting up to speed by the beginning of the regular season.
Feb 21 2021Schoop has yet to arrive at camp due to visa issues, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop is one of six Tigers with a delayed arrival for similar reasons. As long as he's able to show up soon, Schoop's preparation for the upcoming season shouldn't be significantly affected.
Feb 5 2021Schoop signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal to return to Detroit on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has been roughly a league-average hitter over the course of his eight-year career, though he finished above that level in his first season as a Tiger last year, hitting .278/.324/.475, good for a 114 wRC+. Assuming he's in the lineup for most of Detroit's games (which shouldn't be too hard given the rebuilding team's roster), he'll have a good chance to reach 20 homers, something he did in each season from 2016 to 2019.
Sep 22 2020Schoop (wrist) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move ends Schoop's season, as he'd only just hit the 10-day injured list one week prior. It's not clear if his wrist sprain is worse than originally feared or if he simply wasn't going to have time to return before the end of the week. Brandon Dixon was recalled in a corresponding move.
Sep 15 2020Schoop was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right wrist sprain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Niko Goodrum was reinstated in a corresponding move, so Schoop's at-bats will essentially go to Goodrum moving forward. The move is retroactive to Sept. 13, so Schoop could theoretically return on Sept. 23 if he requires the minimum stay.
Sep 13 2020Schoop was held out Sunday due to hamstring and wrist soreness, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop wasn't in Sunday's lineup as a result of his soreness, and he'll get an extra day to recover Monday as the Tigers have a scheduled day off. Manager Ron Gardenhire didn't sound too concerned about the issues, and he should return to action soon.
Sep 9 2020Schoop (wrist) is starting at second base and batting second Wednesday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He left Tuesday's game after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch, but X-rays were negative and he was expected to be right back in the lineup for Wednesday's day game. Schoop is hitting .281 with one home run in his last 10 games.
Sep 8 2020Schoop (wrist) had X-rays come back negative and is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old exited Tuesday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his right wrist, but he may not miss any additional time. Schoop is 7-for-27 with two triples, a double and three RBI through eight games in September.
Sep 7 2020Schoop went 2-for-5 with a triple, double, two runs and an RBI in Sunday's 10-8 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two extra-base hits matched Schoop's total from his previous nine games combined. Even after the recent lull in terms of power production, Schoop is still sporting a career-best .883 OPS on the season while scoring 24 runs and driving in 22 over his 37 games. He'll remain in the lineup for Monday's series finale in Minnesota, manning the keystone and batting second.
Aug 30 2020Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has arguably been Detroit's best offensive player this season, as the veteran now has eight home runs, 19 RBI and an .870 OPS through 31 games. He should continue to bat in a prominent lineup spot and produce good counting stats the rest of the way.
Aug 26 2020Schoop went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop has been raking lately. He hit a grand slam in Tuesday's game and is now 10-for-21 across his last five contests. The hot streak has boosted the veteran's batting average up to an even .300, to go along with an .849 OPS.
Aug 25 2020Schoop went 1-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop took Casey Sadler deep with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, and the veteran second baseman is now up to seven home runs and 16 RBI this season. He's been particularly locked in lately, recording three home runs and seven RBI across his last eight games.
Aug 24 2020Schoop (hamstring is starting Monday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop was held out of Sunday's contest against Cleveland while nursing a sore hamstring, but he'll return to the starting nine just one day later. Prior to Sunday's absence, Schoop had started every game for the Tigers this season, hitting .278 with six home runs and 12 RBI.
Aug 23 2020Schoop is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Indians due to a sore hamstring, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop's absence from the lineup for the first time this season was initially believed to be just a pre-planned maintenance day, but manager Ron Gardenhire later revealed that the injury was behind the second baseman's move to the bench. Fortunately, the Tigers don't think that Schoop's hamstring issue is anything serious, and the club anticipates that he'll be ready to go for Monday's series opener with the Cubs. Willi Castro is spelling Schoop at the keystone for the series finale in Cleveland.
Aug 22 2020Schoop went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, a double and a second run scored in Friday's 10-5 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop and his teammates took out some frustration as they erupted for 10 runs and ended Cleveland's 20-game winning streak over the Tigers. The veteran second baseman now has six home runs this season to go along with 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and an .828 OPS, which would be his highest mark since 2017, when he crushed a career-best 32 long balls in Baltimore.
Aug 18 2020Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-4 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop hit his second home run of August and fifth of the season in the second inning off of Chicago starter Dylan Cease. The veteran second baseman should continue to post decent power numbers for Detroit after hitting at least 20 home runs in each of the past four years.
Aug 17 2020Schoop went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 7-2 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was the third three-hit game for Schoop this season, and the effort raised his batting average to .256. All three hits were singles, and after hitting home runs in three consecutive contests toward the end of July, the veteran second baseman has gone deep just once this month.
Aug 12 2020Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop hit his fourth home run of the season in the first inning against Chicago starter Dylan Cease. The Detroit second baseman hit 23 long balls a season ago for Minnesota and should continue to provide decent power numbers for the Tigers.
Aug 8 2020Schoop went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI in Saturday's 11-5 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old hit a homer in three straight games in late July, but entering Saturday he was 3-for-17 with six strikeouts in the four games since. Schoop has a .265/.269/.469 slash line with three homers, eight runs and eight RBI in 12 games this season.
Jul 31 2020Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop homered to left field in the fourth inning to register his third straight game with a long ball. The 28-year-old hasn't picked up any other hits during that span, but he has driven in six runs. Schoop has totaled over 20 homers in each of his last four seasons, so he is a decent power option at second base.
Jul 29 2020Schoop went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop now has home runs in back to back games for the Tigers. The second baseman hit 23 a season ago for the Twins and hit a career-best 32 home runs for Baltimore back in 2017, so he definitely has the ability to pile up the long balls in bunches.
Jul 28 2020Schoop went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop hit his first home run in a Detroit uniform as part of a four-run third inning that gave the Tigers all the offense they needed in a 4-3 win. The 28-year-old seems locked into the No. 2 spot in the lineup, and while Detroit doesn't have the most potent attack, Schoop should still be able to post decent stats in that role.
Apr 2 2020Schoop finished spring training with a .241 batting average and one home run in 12 games before MLB suspended play. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A visa issue delayed Schoop's arrival to camp, and the 28-year-old wasn't able to do much once he took the field. Still, he'll have the second base job all to himself in Detroit, and after hitting 23 home runs a season ago in Minnesota, he could be a cheap power source for fantasy owners once the regular season is able to start.
Mar 1 2020Schoop, who went 1-for-2 with a run scored in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, is batting .308 this spring. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A visa issue delayed Schoop's arrival to camp, but he's looked comfortable since he got there, going 4-for-13 in six games. The 28-year-old should get regular playing time in Detroit, and he'll look to build upon the 23 home runs and 59 RBI he recorded last season in Minnesota.
Feb 15 2020Schoop is dealing with a visa issue but is expected to report to Tigers' camp Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The rest of the team is expected to report Sunday and Monday, so Schoop is a few days behind schedule. Nonetheless, he should slot in as Detroit's everyday second baseman as soon as he arrives. The 28-year-old posted a .256/.304/.473 slash line and 23 home runs last season in Minnesota.
Dec 21 2019Schoop signed a one-year, $6.1 million contract with the Tigers on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop improved slightly on his 2018 numbers with a .256/.304/.473 slash line and 23 home runs in 2019 during his first season with the Twins. The 28-year-old will remain in the division on a one-year deal with the Tigers, where he is likely to operate as their everyday second baseman.
Sep 26 2019Schoop went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI Thursday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schoop took Jose Cisnero deep in the seventh inning for a two-run homer, his 23rd long ball of the season. Three frames earlier, he recorded an RBI single. The start marked Schoop's second in the team's past five games, as Luis Arraez has taken over primary duties at second base. Even given his demotion, Schoop has bounced back from a poor 2018 campaign to slug .476 across 453 plate appearances.
Sep 14 2019Schoop is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Indians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has started the last five games and is 5-for-16 (.313) with one home run over that span. Look for him to get into the action for Game 2 of the twin bill.
Sep 12 2019Schoop went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in the Twins' 12-6 loss to the Nationals on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The second baseman touched up Aaron Barrett with a two-run shot in the eighth inning for his 22nd of the season. Schoop's high-strikeout, low-walk ways have resulted in an unspectacular .311 on-base percentage, but he's provided decent power in 2019, with his 45 extra-base hits contributing to a solid .489 slugging percentage across 424 plate appearances.

Jul 24 2018Schoop was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two strikeouts in Tuesday's win over Boston.Schoop extended his modest hitting streak to eight games and has a home run in three straight games, and is 29-for-79 (.367 average) with six home runs in July. The 26-year-old began the month with a .197/.242/.345 season slash line but appears to finally have found the swing that's been missing all season.
Jul 23 2018Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Red Sox.Schoop plated a pair with a home run in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to three, but Boston would slam the door in the ninth. Following Monday's tilt, he's extended his hitting streak to seven games, despite an uninspiring .235 batting average with 29 RBI over 80 games this season.
Jul 22 2018Schoop went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored Sunday in the loss to the Blue Jays.Schoop smacked a solo home run in the sixth inning to give his team a one-run lead, but Baltimore would ultimately cough it up in the eighth. The 26-year-old has been on a tear at the dish of late, reaching base in nine of his last 10 games. He's gone 12-for-43 with four extra-base hits and four RBI over that stretch. Schoop will look to keep it rolling as the Orioles begin a three-game showdown against a tough Red Sox ballclub Monday.
Jul 5 2018Schoop went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Twins.Schoop provided just about all the offense for Baltimore in this one as the rest of his lineup just couldn't get anything going. The 26-year-old infielder has 10 long balls on the year after cranking 32 last season. His slash line is also sitting at an unsightly .207/.249/.375 and was hitting under .200 earlier this week.
Jul 1 2018Schoop is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels. It's been a miserable season for Schoop, who saw his batting average dip below the Mendoza Line after back-to-back hitless efforts Thursday and Friday. In an effort to give Schoop an opportunity to "reset," manager Buck Showalter announced Saturday that he would bench the second baseman for two games, according to Katherine Fominykh of The Baltimore Sun. After a team off day Monday, Schoop will re-enter the lineup Tuesday, per Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports, and look to build some momentum at the dish prior to the All-Star break. Steve Wilkerson picks up a second consecutive start at the keystone in the series finale.
Jun 30 2018Schoop is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop has yet to find any consistency at the plate with a .197 average and .587 OPS this season, and has been even worse in June with a .144/.217/.299 slash line. The 26-year-old has started all 47 games since coming off the disabled list in early May, but will cede second base to Steve Wilkerson on Saturday.
May 25 2018Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays.He now has five homers on the season, with four of them coming in the last 13 games. Schoop is now hitting .254 (18-for-71) with 12 RBI and 12 runs in 17 games since coming off the disabled list in early May, and while he isn't matching last year's career-high batting average, he's still providing plenty of fantasy value.
May 13 2018Schoop went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run in the Orioles' 17-1 win over Tampa Bay.Schoop did his part to contribute to an explosive effort from Baltimore's offense following his two-homer effort on Saturday. He still has an underwhelming .250/.281/.413 slash line through his 92 at-bats but he's been working his way back from an oblique injury that kept him sidelined for almost a month and he seems to be settling into a groove at the plate, so those numbers should start to improve as he collects more at-bats.
May 12 2018Schoop went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers -- his second and third of the season -- in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays.Schoop's second-inning homer put the Orioles on the board while his third-inning blast helped extend the team's lead en route to a 6-3 victory. The 26-year-old, who went 0-for-4 in Game 2 of the twin bill, is now 7-for-26 with two homers and seven RBI in six games since returning from an oblique injury.
May 8 2018Schoop (oblique) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday and is starting at second base against the Royals. As expected, Schoop has been cleared to return to action for the Orioles after spending close to a month on the disabled list with an oblique injury. The 26-year-old, who compiled a .230/.266/.344 line through 14 games before getting hurt, will face southpaw Danny Duffy in his return to action.
May 4 2018Schoop (oblique) will play second base and bat second for Double-A Bowie on Friday and is expected to return to Baltimore on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop recently played in a couple games down in Florida at extended spring training and will officially embark on a rehab assignment with Bowie for the next few days. If all goes well, Schoop should be back for the Orioles' three-game set against Kansas City next week.
Apr 27 2018Schoop (oblique) will play in games at extended spring training Wednesday and Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. If all goes well in his two games at team's facility in Florida, Schoop will then move into a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie. No firm timetable for his return has come forth, though it seems like he could be back in the first full week of May.
Apr 26 2018Schoop (oblique) will head to extended spring training Monday to continue his rehab, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Schoop has been slowly ramping up his baseball activity as he works his way back from an oblique injury. Barring any setbacks over the weekend, he could be cleared to play in games at extended spring training as early as Wednesday. Schoop will need to get up to speed at extended spring training before either rejoining the big club or embarking on on a minor-league rehab assignment.
Apr 24 2018Schoop (oblique) will field groundballs and hit off a tee Tuesday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop began ramping up his activity Monday with running and throwing, and now he appears to be taking another step forward. He'll likely need a few more days to get back to full swings, so it's unlikely that he'll be back before the weekend series with Detroit. Luis Sardinas will continue to man the keystone in his stead.
Apr 23 2018Schoop is running and throwing to test out his strained oblique Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop suffered a mild oblique strain April 14 and is eligible to return Tuesday. Initial reports were that he thought he wouldn't need more than the minimum amount of time, but with him running for just the first time Monday, that seems unlikely. Luis Sardinas has been the primary second baseman in Schoop's absence.
Apr 15 2018Schoop hopes to return in the minimum 10 days from his Grade 1 oblique strain, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports. He received good news Saturday, when it was revealed his oblique strain was mild, but it would still be an outlier if he only missed 10 days with the injury. If he is able to be activated after the minimum 10 days, that would mean he would return April 24 at home against the Rays. In the meantime, Tim Beckham should continue to start at second base with Danny Valencia manning the hot corner.
Apr 14 2018Schoop was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday with a right oblique strain. He suffered the injury late in Friday's game on a strikeout, and given the nature of the injury, it's possible his stay on the disabled list could extend past the minimum 10 days. Danny Valencia will take over at third base Saturday as Tim Beckham shifts to second. That will likely be the setup most days during Schoop's absence. Alex Cobb was called up to take Schoop's place on the active roster.
Apr 14 2018Schoop (side) is not in the lineup against Boston on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop was removed from Friday's outing with a side injury after appearing to tweak a muscle during an at-bat in the seventh inning. Manager Buck Showalter will give the 26-year-old the afternoon off, but hasn't described the severity of Schoop's injury at this point. Consider him day-to-day heading into Sunday's tilt. In his place, Tim Beckham will slide over to the keystone while Danny Valencia draws a start at third.
Apr 14 2018Manager Buck Showalter said that Schoop (side) will receive an MRI prior to Saturday's game and could wind up going on the disabled list, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The results of Schoop's MRI should be announced later this afternoon but from the looks of it, the infielder could miss an extended period of time after injuring himself during a swing in Friday's game. If he winds up landing on the DL, expect to see Tim Beckham move over to second base while Danny Valencia gets regular starts at the hot corner.
Apr 14 2018Schoop's MRI revealed a Grade 1 (mild) oblique strain, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. This is good news, as a Grade 2 or Grade 3 strain would carry with it a longer timetable. Schoop, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday, could theoretically return in early-to-mid May if all goes well with his rehab. In the meantime, Tim Beckham should handle most of the work at the keystone while Danny Valencia gets starts at third base.
Apr 13 2018Schoop exited in the seventh inning of Friday's loss to the Red Sox with a side injury, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop appeared to tweak a muscle in his side after striking out in the seventh inning and was promptly removed from the game, although it appeared to be a precautionary move. The 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now and his status for Saturday's game remains uncertain.
Apr 3 2018Schoop went 3-for-5 with his first home run of the season, a double and three runs scored in Baltimore's 10-6 defeat to Houston on Tuesday.Schoop was just 2-for-17 to start the season but he broke out in a big way with Tuesday's three-hit effort that included a mammoth solo blast off Houston's Justin Verlander. The 26-year-old is coming off an All-Star campaign where he mashed 32 homers and had an .841 OPS, numbers that would keep him in the upper tier of second basemen should he follow up with a similar effort in 2018.
Feb 24 2018Schoop said his elbow is doing much better and he thinks he'll play in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The elbow issue was never thought to be serious, and it sounds like Schoop should return to action in the near future even if the Orioles decide to play it safe and keep him sidelined for Saturday's game.
Feb 24 2018Schoop (elbow) is hitting second and playing second base for Saturday's Grapefruit League matchup against the Twins. As expected, Schoop is set to make his 2018 Grapefruit League debut after sitting out Friday's game due to elbow bursitis. The issue was never thought to be anything overly serious, and Schoop should be good to go for the rest of camp.
Feb 23 2018Schoop could miss a few spring training games while dealing with elbow bursitis, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Schoop had his left elbow drained to deal with the issue, which is thought to be minor and shouldn't cause him to miss much time. Expect him to be back and unaffected well before the start of the season.
Feb 6 2018Schoop and the Orioles have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8.5 million deal, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.Schoop had a breakout season for the Orioles in 2017, hitting .293/.338/.503 with 32 home runs and establishing himself as one of the better offensive second basemen in the game. He'll remain Baltimore's uncontested everyday second baseman in 2018 and should continue to mash in one of the better hitters' parks in the league.
Feb 6 2018Schoop and the Orioles have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8.5 million deal Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.Schoop had a breakout season for the Orioles in 2017, hitting .293/.338/.503 with 32 home runs and establishing himself as one of the better offensive second basemen in the game. He'll remain Baltimore's uncontested everyday second baseman in 2018 and should continue to mash in one of the better hitters' parks in the league.
Sep 14 2017Schoop went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to the Yankees.Schoop's now up to 32 homers, 104 RBI, 87 runs and a .302/.346/.531 slash line for the campaign. Those are elite numbers in all settings, and the 25-year-old second baseman projects to remain a go-to asset hitting the middle of the Baltimore lineup.
Sep 3 2017Schoop went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two runs, including the walk-off winner on a single by Mark Trumbo in the 12th inning Sunday against Toronto.Schoop's breakout season continued in Sunday's exciting come-from-behind victory. The second baseman ranks in the AL's top 10 across a handful of fantasy-worthy categories, including batting average, home runs, RBI and runs. Before September even began, Schoop joined Cal Ripken and Miguel Tejada as the franchise's only middle infielders with a 30-homer, 100-RBI campaign, according to MLB.com. The 25-year-old started the fantasy season on plenty of waiver wires, but Schoop will end 2017 as an elite keeper.
Sep 3 2017Schoop went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two runs, including the walkoff winner on a single by Mark Trumbo in the 12th inning Sunday against Toronto.Schoop's breakout season continued in Sunday's exciting come-from-behind victory. The second baseman ranks in the AL's top 10 across a handful of fantasy-worthy categories, including batting average, home runs, RBI and runs. Before September even began, Schoop joined Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada as the franchise's only middle infielders with a 30-homer, 100-RBI campaign, according to MLB.com. The 25-year-old started the fantasy season on plenty of waiver wires, but Schoop will end 2017 as an elite keeper.
Sep 2 2017Schoop played the hero Friday, going 2-for-6 with an RBI double in the 13th inning of a 1-0 win over the Blue Jays. The game only got to extra innings in the first place because Schoop made a terrific defensive play in the ninth, gunning down Kevin Pillar at the plate to preserve a scoreless tie. The 25-year-old is now slashing .349/.385/.547 over his last 20 games with five homers, 11 runs and 19 RBI, and he shows now signs of slowing down in what is already a career year.
Aug 30 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI during Wednesday's win over Seattle. It was his 30th homer of the season.Schoop's breakout campaign continues, and he's now up to a .306/.353/.544 slash line with 30 bombs, 99 RBI and 81 runs. Those are high-end numbers, and at this stage of the game, Schoop warrants mention among the top fantasy assets at the keystone.
Aug 22 2017Schoop went 1-for-4, launching a fifth-inning, three-run homer to bust open Monday's game against Oakland. The undisputed 2017 MVP of the Orioles' lineup is now on pace to notch 118 RBI -- which would be the second-most for any O's player over the past decade (Chris Davis plated 138 in 2013). Schoop has already set career highs in home runs (27), RBI (91) and walks (29), and the 25-year-old still has 37 games remaining this season.
Aug 16 2017Schoop went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners. The long ball was just his second of August, but Schoop has now exceeded his home-run total from last year with 42 games still to go. His walk rate remains low, but he's been more patient lately, and that's a good sign for a player who's still just 25. Only Jose Altuve has been more valuable at second base in fantasy to this point.
Jul 30 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBI in Sunday's 10-6 win over the Rangers.Schoop launched a two-run homer in the fifth inning, then gave his team a 10-2 lead with an RBI single in the sixth. Few would have picked the 25-year-old second baseman to finish as the home run leader for a Baltimore lineup that contains the likes of Manny Machado and Chris Davis, but he's starting to run away from the competition in that department. Schoop's already just one shy of last season's career high with 24 home runs in 60 fewer games, while none of his teammates have hit more than 18.
Jul 26 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Rays. The 25-year-old continues to wreak havoc on opposing pitchers. Over his last 10 games, Schoop is hitting .366 with four home runs, 17 RBI and 10 runs. He leads the clubhouse with a .303 batting average, 22 home runs and 72 RBI on the year.
Jul 22 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Astros.Schoop left the yard for the second consecutive evening, giving him 21 on the year. He continues his outstanding season by providing fantasy managers with a .303 batting average to go along with a .552 slugging percentage.
Jul 21 2017Schoop went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's 8-7 loss against Houston. His 20th homer of the year, a three-run blast in the ninth, brought the O's within a run after entering the final frame down 8-2. Schoop now has two blasts, 13 RBI and five runs over his last four games.
Jul 20 2017Schoop went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and three RBI during Thursday's win over the Rangers. After a career-best first half, Schoop is 11-for-29 out of the All-Star break with nine RBI and six runs through seven games. He's emerged as a high-end fantasy asset and sports an impressive .302/.350/.540 slash line for the campaign.
Jul 19 2017Schoop went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run against the Rangers on Wednesday. The big day brought his average up to an even .300 thanks to a hot stretch that's now a month-plus in length. Over his last 28 games, Schoop has hit seven homers and driven in 24 runs to go with a .339 batting average. That's got to be frustrating for fantasy owners who cut ties with the 25-year-old second baseman in late May, when he was scuffling along quietly with six homers and a .270 average through his first 45 games.
Jul 16 2017Schoop will start at shortstop and bat third Sunday against the Cubs.Schoop is making his second start at shortstop of the season, but since he's graded out as a below-average defender at the keystone throughout his career, it's unlikely that he'll permanently move up on the positional spectrum. With limited infield depth on hand, however, Schoop could still pick up a few more starts at shortstop when regular option Ruben Tejada rests, so it's not out of the question that he'll end up gaining eligibility at the position in some leagues before the season ends.
Jul 15 2017Manager Buck Showalter said he wants to keep Schoop hitting third in the batting order moving forward, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Definitively the O's best offensive player this season, Schoop has hit from seven different spots in the order thus far. He was most productive hitting fifth and sixth in the lineup, but the second baseman is still adjusting to his new spot. Schoop should enjoy more at-bats, RBI and run-scoring opportunities hitting third than he would down the card.
Jul 8 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Twins.Schoop blasted his 18th homer of the year in the fourth inning to give the Orioles a lead they'd never relinquish. The shortstop has provided amazing value for fantasy owners, as he's having a massive year, as evidenced by his .296/.349/.541 slash line.
Jul 8 2017Schoop is starting at shortstop and batting third Saturday against the Twins, his first big-league start at the position, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. With J.J. Hardy (ribs) in the midst of a long stay on the DL and few options in the middle infield, manager Buck Showalter will move his All-Star second baseman to the other side of the bag. Schoop saw a few innings of action at shortstop during Thursday's game and the Orioles appear committed to shuffling the lineup in hopes of better production at the plate, as the move allows Johnny Giavotella to start at the keystone Saturday. Baltimore has lost seven of their last eight contests and rank 23rd in runs scored this season with 4.37 per game.
Jul 8 2017Schoop, the Orioles' starting second baseman since 2014, made his first big-league appearance at shortstop Friday night against Minnesota, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop was drafted in 2008 as a shortstop, but moved to second base once the O's acquired J.J. Hardy in 2011. The latter is playing in his 13th MLB campaign at 34 years old, and if the team can't turn its season around shortly after the break, manager Buck Showalter may look to see what Schoop can do at short for future years. Even so, it's unlikely that the 25-year-old Schoop will log enough games at the position to gain eligibility for 2018, but the development is certainly worth eyeing.
Jul 4 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice in Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee.Schoop's ninth-inning solo shot pushed him into a tie among MLB second baseman with 17 blasts this season, while his .545 slugging percentage and 52 RBI rank second among his AL counterparts. Schoop continues to shine in his fifth big-league campaign, and surprisingly, he'll be the Orioles lone representative at next week's All-Star Game in Miami.
Jul 1 2017Schoop went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBI Saturday against the Rays.Schoop blasted his 16th homer of the year, but it did little to help the Orioles in a blowout loss. The fifth-year veteran is having a true breakout campaign as he's rewarding fantasy owners with an outstanding .297/.352/.545 slash line.
Jun 25 2017Schoop went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI during Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.The 25-year-old second baseman is in the midst of a career year with 15 homers, 48 RBI, 42 runs and a .295/.352/.545 slash line. It's not out of the question to consider Schoop a set-and-forget option at the keystone moving forward.
Jun 17 2017Schoop went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs during Saturday's win over St. Louis.Schoop has caught fire since late May with eight homers, 22 RBI and 18 runs through his past 23 games. He's sporting an impressive .293/.348/.540 slash line for the season and is well on his way to a career year. There's also a chance that Schoop is undervalued in some fantasy circles despite his career trajectory aligning with his current results.
Jun 10 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 Friday against the Yankees with one home run and two RBI.Ultimately, Schoop's blast accounted for the Orioles' only runs of the game. In his next three plate appearances, Schoop fanned and the rest of his team did not do much else. Since May 22, he is slashing .328/.368/.703 over 17 games and 68 plate appearances.
Jun 7 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's extra-inning victory against the Pirates. You'd be hard-pressed to find a preseason prediction that projected Schoop as the only Oriole to make the All-Star Game. However, 56 games into the season, that occurrence is more than a possibility. On a team loaded with power hitters, Schoop leads the pack with a .525 slugging percentage -- a mark that's also best among AL second baseman.
Jun 5 2017Schoop went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI during Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.The second baseman has a .333/.364/.667 slash line with eight extra-base hits, 10 RBI and five runs through his past 11 games. The heater has Schoop up to a career-high .828 OPS, and he is well on his way to posting another excellent four-category fantasy campaign.
Jun 2 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.Schoop's sixth-inning blast, his eighth of the year, wound up being the difference in Baltimore's 7-5 victory. The 25-year-old is now on pace to hammer out 25 home runs and 80-plus RBI for a second straight season.
May 29 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run double during Monday's win over the Yankees.Schoop is locked into a mini heater with four extra-base hits and six runs through his past five games. He's turning in another serviceable fantasy campaign with seven homers, 24 RBI, 23 runs and a .275/.324/.480 slash line, which has him on track to take a run at topping his solid 2016 numbers (25, 82, 82 and .267/.298/.454).
May 28 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with his seventh home run of the year, a run scored and three RBI in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Astros.Schoop has been on a bit of a tear of late and has homered in two of his last four games to raise his triple-slash line to a respectable .275/.326/.479 with 22 RBI and 23 runs scored in 184 plate appearances. The 25-year-old should continue to be a solid source of power from the second base position in a potent Baltimore lineup.
May 24 2017Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to Minnesota. The second baseman's last round tripper was April 25, and he sported an underwhelming .264/.327/.363 slash line with just six RBI during that 24-game drought. Despite the slump, Schoop still boasts a .462 slugging percentage and .335 wOBA this season, and he hit 25 long flies in 2016. Wednesday's blast might be the starting point of a power outburst.
May 21 2017Schoop will play second base and lead off Sunday against the Blue Jays, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Schoop is atop the lineup for the second time in three games with Seth Smith, who had typically been serving as the Orioles' leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching, sitting out on both occasions. Smith ended up missing Friday's game after being hit in the face by a foul ball a day earlier and seems to be out Sunday for rest purposes, so it's not expected that Schoop will stick around long as the Orioles' primary table setter.
May 17 2017Schoop (hamstring) will start at second base and bat sixth Wednesday against the Tigers, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop exited late in Tuesday's contest after experiencing some cramping in his right hamstring, but after going through some sprints in the outfield during batting practices, the Orioles were comfortable keeping him in in the lineup for the fifth day in a row. With a .276/.326/.472 batting line on the season and both his walk and strikeout rates trending in positive directions, Schoop has been able to build on his 2016 breakout through the first month and a half.
May 8 2017Schoop (hand) is batting seventh and playing second base Monday against the Nationals.Schoop went through pregame workouts without a hitch, clearing the way for him to return to the starting lineup after being held out of the last two games. The 25-year-old will look to pick up where he left off before the injury, as he was slashing .296/.339/.510 with five homers and 17 RBI through 28 games (98 at-bats).
May 7 2017Manager Buck Showalter is optimistic Schoop (hand) can return to the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop is sitting his second consecutive game Sunday after being hit in the hand with a pitch in Friday's contest. There's still some swelling in the hand, but it sounds like Schoop will be back in the lineup as soon as that subsides.
May 7 2017Schoop (hand) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.Schoop was struck in the hand with a pitch in Friday's game, and the ailment has now cost him two consecutive starts. Fortunately the X-rays came back negative, so consider Schoop day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener against the Nationals. In the meantime, Ryan Flaherty will make his second straight start at the keystone.
May 6 2017Schoop is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.Schoop will take a seat Saturday after starting in 190 consecutive games. He was hit by a pitch on the hand Friday, though he was able to finish the contest, so it appears his absence from the lineup is precautionary. Ryan Flaherty will get the start at second base in his stead.
May 6 2017Schoop, who is out of Saturday's lineup, hurt his palm when he was hit by a pitch in Friday's game, PressBoxonline.com's Rich Dubroff reports. His palm is swelling and while he wants to play, the Orioles will opt to give him at least one game off. X-rays were negative, according to the Baltimore Sun's Jon Meoli, so Schoop should be considered day-to-day. Ryan Flaherty is getting the start at the keystone in his stead.
May 1 2017Over 89 plate appearances in the season's first month, Schoop hit .288/.326/.538 with five home runs, 16 RBI and 11 runs.In three of his four MLB seasons, the second baseman has logged 80-plus plate appearances during the campaign's opening month. Schoop's 2017 numbers have him out of the gate quicker than ever before. That said, the 25-year-old could certainly be in for a career year, one that may push Schoop into the elite class of second baseman.
Apr 23 2017Schoop went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during Saturday's win over Boston. After turning in a solid campaign in 2016 (82 runs, 25 home runs, 82 RBI and a .267/.298/.454 slash line), Schoop is off to a nice start this season. He's remained an excellent contributor in the counting stats (10 runs, four homers and 10 RBI) and has shown improvement across his slash line with .291/.333/.564 marks. The keystone is a deep fantasy position, but Schoop has the upside to be a mid-tier option going forward.
Apr 14 2017Schoop went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and scored a run in Thursday's one-run victory over Toronto.Schoop recorded the first hit off Francisco Liriano in the third inning when he doubled on an 0-2 slider. Then in the fifth, the second baseman again tagged the starter's slider for a double, this time off the center field wall that plated his fourth RBI of the year. Schoop came around to score later in the inning for what turned out to be the deciding run. The 25-year-old has hit eighth in the order for all but one game so far this season and owns a .231/.286/.423 through 26 at-bats.
Apr 12 2017Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI single in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Red Sox.The jack was his first of the season, and while Schoop has limped out to a .174 (4-for-23) start to 2017, he should be able to improve those numbers quickly after hitting a career-high 25 homers last year.
Apr 6 2017Schoop went 1-for-3 and scored a run in Wednesday's game against Toronto.Schoop has a history of starting the regular slow. In 200 career plate appearances prior to May, the second baseman owns a .230 batting average with 47 strikeouts. A positive note through the first two contests would be that Schoop has made contact in each of his seven at-bats so far.
Mar 23 2017Schoop returned to Orioles camp on Wednesday after playing for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, Rich Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop played in all seven of his team's WBC games, managing a .222/.300/.333 slash line over 27 at-bats. Despite the pedestrian numbers, the 25-year-old showed what he's capable of by going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in the Netherlands' second-round loss to Japan. Schoop will enter his fifth MLB season (fourth as a starter) looking to build off 2016's breakout campaign. The second baseman has emerged as one of the best power hitters at his position. On the other hand, Schoop lacks plate discipline (3.2 percent walk rate in 2016) and must improve upon last year's 21.2 percent strikeout rate in order to take the next step in his career.
Mar 1 2017Schoop, playing in his final game before leaving Orioles camp to join the Netherlands for the World Baseball Classic, hit a home run in Monday's game against the Yankees. The second baseman is 3-for-8 with two doubles and a homer in three spring games. Schoop played in all 162 games for the Orioles last season and tied for sixth among MLB second baseman with 615 at-bats. His 38 doubles and 25 home runs in 2016 were both good for fifth-best at the position. Schoop can be counted on to fill the stat sheet once again in 2017.
Feb 16 2017Schoop said he will play second base for Team Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports. There was talk of him moving to third base, but Schoop confirmed Xander Bogaerts will slide over to the hot corner. The Netherlands infield is crowded, also boasting the Angels' Andrelton Simmons, the Yankees' Didi Gregorius and the Rangers' Jurickson Profar. Schoop sticking at his natural position, however, should ease any concerns entering the tournament. Schoop's breakthrough 2016 season (.267/.298/.454 with 25 HR, 82 RBI and 82 runs) paints a sunny fantasy outlook for 2017, albeit with some downside because of his plate discipline woes.
Jan 13 2017Schoop agreed to a one-year, $3.475 million deal with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration, PressBoxonline.com's Rich Dubroff reports. He is coming off a year where he posted career highs in home runs (25), runs (82) and RBI (82), thanks largely to playing in all 162 games. Schoop has become a pretty solid bet for three-category production, and he has gotten his strikeout rate to a manageable place (21.2 percent last year), so he is no longer a major batting average risk.
Oct 1 2016Schoop went 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double and three-run homer in Friday's 8-1 victory over the Yankees. The slugging second baseman exploded for his most impressive outing of the season, breaking a streak of a 15-game streak without an RBI in momentous fashion. Schoop has been enduring a thoroughly forgettable September, but has now cobbled together hits in three straight contests. His three-run shot Friday was also his first round-tripper since Sep. 13 versus the Red Sox.
Sep 10 2016Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers. He cut into a 3-0 deficit in the sixth with a 400-foot blast to left, plating Adam Jones. Schoop's banner season rolls on with what is now a career-high 22 homers and 75 RBI. He also has hits in three of his last four games after starting off September with an 0-for-12 stretch over his first three contests.
Aug 31 2016Schoop went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer Wednesday, but it was not enough as the Orioles fell to the Blue Jays 5-3.The home run was Schoop's 21st of the year, and the trio of hits raised his batting average to .282. They say a rising tide lifts all boats, and the mysterious league-wide surge in offensive production from second baseman has helped Schoop to a career year. The 21 home runs, 70 RBI, and 71 runs are all career bests for Schoop, who is still just 24 years old. While his 18 walks on the year are low to the point of concern, Schoop seems to be following in the footsteps of another Oriole, Adam Jones, who has found success despite a notoriously low walk rate throughout his career.
Aug 29 2016Schoop will hit leadoff in Monday's game against the Blue Jays. With Adam Jones (hamstring) out Monday for the third day in a row, the Orioles will again need a leadoff hitter, and manager Buck Showalter will use Schoop there for the first time in his career. Schoop has seen the ball well of late, hitting .295 in 12 games since Aug. 17.
Aug 22 2016Schoop went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Baltimore's victory over the Nationals on Monday.Schoop and teammate Mark Trumbo both homered for the second game in a row on Monday. The second baseman has been a force at the plate, collecting 20 home runs and 65 RBI for the O's-both easily career highs. With a .284 average, he also has proven that last year's .279 clip was not a fluke.
Aug 22 2016Schoop went 1-for-4 with his 19th home run of the season -- a solo shot off Dallas Keuchel -- during Sunday's 5-3 loss to Houston.Schoop evened the score at one in the bottom of the fourth inning Sunday with a 411-foot shot over the center field wall. The 24-year-old is one homer shy of reaching 20 for the first time in his young career.
Jul 25 2016Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and another run scored in Sunday's win over the Indians. The homer was his 17th of the season, a new career high, and Schoop is enjoying his third straight solid month with a .282/.309/.513 slash line, four HR and 12 RBI in 78 July at-bats. He hasn't drawn a walk all month though, posting a 0:16 BB:K so far, so a batting average correction could be coming.
Jul 21 2016Schoop went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run in Thursday's afternoon affair with the Yanks.Entering Thursday's game in the Bronx, Schoop had just two RBI in his 24 at-bats since the break. He doubled that with his 27th multi-hit game of the season to help the O's avoid a sweep in the series finale. The second baseman has an affection for day games, as is evident by his .381/.398/.628 line when the sun is high. On the flip side, Schoop is slashing just .256/.296/.455 when playing under the lights. The sample size is big enough to take this trend seriously moving forward.
Jul 18 2016Schoop was the entirety of the offense for the Orioles on Monday, hitting a solo home run in Baltimore's loss to the Yankees.Schoop has been on a tear this month, hitting safely in all but one game this July. Since the start of June Schoop has watched his average rise 34 points, hitting eight home runs and driving in 26 runs. The second baseman now is hitting .301 with 16 home runs for the season.
Jul 16 2016Schoop went 1-for-4 with a go-ahead solo homer in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Rays. The young slugger's 406-foot solo shot off Chris Archer in the eighth broke a 3-3 deadlock, and ended up being the difference in the game. Schoop's hitting streak is now at 10 games, and he's hit safely in 20 of the last 21 contests. He's already slashing .341/.386/.537 in July, and is just one homer short of equaling the career-best 16 he hit in 2014.
Jul 9 2016Schoop went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in Friday's 9-5 loss to the Angels. The 24-year-old continues to wield one of the hottest bats in the majors in what has become a breakout season. Schoop is now slashing .302/.337/.513, and has a seven-game hitting streak. He's also hit safely in 19 of his last 20 games, and is already hitting .345 over his first 29 at-bats of July.
Jul 5 2016Schoop, who has been hitting No. 2 in the order against left-handers recently, is 16-for-39 (.410) with one home run and seven doubles when hitting at that slot this season. The Orioles are platooning Hyun Soo Kim to start against right-handers, but when Kim sees the bench Schoop gets bumped up in the order. This almost always results in hitting behind Adam Jones and in front of Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis. Schoop's success may be driven some by those around him, but he has actually been better against right-handers this season (.312/.340/.510 vs. RHP, .267/.304/.467 vs. LHP). Kim's numbers are even stronger against right-handers, so a full time move to No. 2 is not in the cards at this time.
Jun 26 2016Schoop went 3-for-5 with a solo shot, his 13th home run of the season, in Sunday's win over the Rays. He's working on a nine-game hitting streak, during which he's batting .474 (18-for-38) with three homers, six RBI and an impressive 13 runs scored. Schoop's now hitting .292/.322/.502 on the season and could top his previous career high of 45 RBI before the All-Star break.
Jun 19 2016Schoop went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. It's his second straight game with three hits and a homer, and the blast was his 12th on the year. Jun 14 2016Schoop hit his 10th home run, a solo blast, in a 1-for-3 game in Tuesday's win over Boston.Schoop had gone three weeks without a home run before blasting one Friday against the Blue Jays, but it looks like he has rediscovered his power stroke -- he has four extra-base hits including the two home runs in his previous five games and has boosted his slugging percentage from .435 back up to .467 with the hot streak. He is now one of just seven major league second basemen with at least 10 home runs, as pop like Schoop's continues to be at a premium at the position.
Jun 11 2016Schoop went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Blue Jays. The 24-year-old had been quiet on the home run front over the last three weeks, but took Marco Estrada deep in the fifth for his first round-tripper since May 22. Schoop has reached safely in all but one of 10 June games, and is providing some respectable production from the latter half of the order for the Orioles. He's now slashing .259/.294/.449, with 12 doubles, a triple, nine homers and 33 RBI.
May 25 2016Schoop will move up to second in the batting order for Wednesday's game against Houston. The Orioles are shuffling their lineup Wednesday with leadoff man Joey Rickard sitting out, so Manny Machado will lead off and Schoop will slide up to second in the order. Wednesday marks the first time this season that Schoop has hit higher than sixth. He'll be facing Collin McHugh, who he has gone 0-for-3 against in his career.
May 22 2016Schoop went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Angels.Schoop was responsible for the only offense Baltimore could muster Sunday, and the pair of hits raised his average to .400 over the last four games. Schoop now has eight home runs to his name in just 148 at-bats and should easily eclipse last season's total of 15 if he can remain healthy.
May 22 2016Schoop went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Angels.Schoop was responsible for the only offense Baltimore could muster Sunday, and the pair of hits raised his average to .400 over the last four games. He now has eight home runs to his name in just 148 at-bats and should easily eclipse last season's total of 15 if he can remain healthy.
May 16 2016Schoop went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Tigers. He continues to swing a hot bat, and Schoop now has 10 RBI in his last four games and four multi-hit performances in his last seven games. With a .340/.353/.600 slash line through 50 at-bats in May, he's been a huge part of the Orioles' 9-4 record this month.
May 14 2016Schoop went 2-for-3 with a pair of bombs and five RBI in the 9-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday. It was his first game with five RBI in his career. It was also the fifth time, including second this season, where Schoop went deep in a game twice. He is 4-for-10 (.400) with eight RBI in the series against Detroit.
May 8 2016Schoop went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a solo shot, his fifth home run of the season, in Sunday's 11-3 rout of the A's.He also extended his hitting streak to 11 games in the process. After slumping in late April, Schoop is now hitting .257/.284/.457 on the season and while he's now likely to become a big asset in batting average or OBP, he should continue to supply good power for a middle infielder.
Apr 16 2016Schoop was 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in Friday's 11-5 victory over the Rangers. The three-veteran victimized a pair of Rangers relievers on his blasts, touching up Tom Wilhemsen for a two-run shot in the seventh before getting to Andrew Faulkner for a solo shot in the eighth. Schoop has now hit safely in nine of 10 games this season, but Friday's effort marked his first multi-hit outing of the season. He's providing some solid production in the latter half of the Orioles lineup, and is now slashing a .314/.351/.686 line in 2016.
Mar 31 2016Schoop hit his fourth home run Thursday and has cut down on his strikeouts this spring with just seven whiffs in 62 at-bats.Schoop slashed .355/.385/.581 through Thursday and has made a lot of contact this spring. He still struggles to take walks and is likely to hit ninth in the order. That said, if he is healthy for a full season 20 home runs would seem like his floor.
Mar 15 2016Schoop went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto, lifting his spring line to .414/.433/.586 over 29 at-bats.Although his low-OBP tendencies will likely prompt manager Buck Showalter to use Schoop in the bottom of third of the order, he's flashed the power necessary to be a cheap source of home runs and RBI given his hitter-friendly home park and the quality of the bats ahead of him in the Baltimore lineup. Schoop should begin 2016 with a strong hold on the everyday role at second base for the Orioles.
Oct 4 2015Schoop (hand) remains out of the lineup for the season finale Sunday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. While Schoop will sit for the season finale Sunday, a second X-ray returned clean, indicating doesn't have a broken hand. He'll be available off the bench Sunday and shouldn't experience any delays in his offseason training as a result of the injury.
Oct 3 2015Schoop will undergo an X-ray on his hand Saturday and an MRI on his knee Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.Schoop continues to have swelling in his hand. The MRI will also be with an arthogram, and he will have dye injected during the procedure as well. It remains unclear exactly how much more time Schoop may miss.
Oct 3 2015Schoop (hand) is not in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports. This does not come as a surprise, as Schoop was experiencing swelling in his hand Saturday morning. Ryan Flaherty will start at second base Saturday and Schoop should be considered questionable for the final game of the regular season Sunday.
Oct 3 2015Schoop's (hand) availability Saturday will be evaluated by the hour, MASN Sports reports.Schoop is still experiencing swelling in his hand. The Orioles have little incentive to push Schoop, who will have an MRI Monday after the season is over. It seems unlikely he will get any more than one start between Saturday and Sunday. Jones is not in the lineup for Saturday's first game of a doubleheader.
Oct 2 2015Schoop says his hand feels better but is still experiencing swelling, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.Schoop underwent X-rays on his right hand Thursday that returned negative, but his status for Friday's contest is still unclear. He'll try swinging a bat later in the day, and could be available if he's able to do that without pain.

He'll likely get a better idea of where he's at after a night's sleep, but the Orioles have no reason to push him into action having been eliminated from playoff contention.
Oct 1 2015Schoop departed Thursday's game with a right hand contusion, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop was removed in the first inning and replaced at second base by Paul Janish. Sep 25 2015Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-4 win over the Nationals on Thursday.Schoop was in a bit of a slump as of late, going 2-for-20 over his previous five games. It's been a breakout season for the young second baseman, as he has 15 homers and 39 RBI in 79 games played this season. That puts Schoop on a 30-plus home run pace for a full season and would make him a must own in all formats. Be sure to circle Schoop's name going into drafts next season, as he may be overlooked with under 100 games played.
Sep 14 2015Schoop went 3-for-4 with two homers in the Orioles' 8-2 win over the Royals on Sunday night.Schoop has been sizzling since returning from the DL in early July, batting .295/.323/.507 with 11 homers during that span. Unfortunately, his typically low spot in the Orioles' batting order hasn't lent itself to many RBI or run-scoring opportunities. The 23-year-old could be a deserving of an appointment closer to the middle of the lineup in 2016, and if health permits, he could be one of the most valuable fantasy commodities at second base.
Sep 2 2015Schoop went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Rays on Wednesday. He came into the bottom of the ninth 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, but slugged the game-tying two-run shot off Rays closer Brad Boxberger. Schoop's hit for surprising average this season -- he's still at .290 -- but that .343 BABIP is going to be awful tough to sustain, so there's room for some regression both there and in his home-run rate, which is far higher than any he's shown before.
Aug 18 2015Schoop is hitting .400/.426/.545 in August with one home run, five doubles and seven RBIs.Schoop has hit safely in 13 of 15 games this month, though his power has dipped a bit. His strikeout rate has dipped from 27 percent in 2014 to 21 percent in 2015. If he can keep up at that rate, his production should continue.
Aug 7 2015Schoop went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in an 8-4 loss to the Angels on Friday.Schoop hit a missile down the left field line that showed his impressive power stroke. He continues to be underrated and under-owned as he maintains a .306 average and .918 OPS in 35 games this season. Keep an eye on him for years to come, as his power profile is hard to find at a position like second base.
Jul 30 2015Schoop hit a solo homer and drew a walk in three plate appearances Wednesday against Atlanta. While the base on balls was just his fourth in 27 games during this injury-shortened season, Schoop has shown very intriguing power thus far, having hit seven homers. After he bopped 16 last year, that doesn't seem to be a fluke; however, if he qualified, Schoop would be sitting on the second-highest pop-up rate in all of baseball, which will prevent him from being an asset in batting average and might ultimately make him a liability.
Jul 28 2015Schoop is out of the lineup Tuesday against Atlanta.Ryan Flaherty will take Schoop's spot at second base Tuesday against Julio Teheran and the Braves. Tuesday marks just the second time Schoop has been left out of the lineup since the All-Star break.
Jul 24 2015Schoop is out of the lineup Friday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports. It looks like a scheduled day off for Schoop, who has started each of the last seven games. The O's will go with Ryan Flaherty at second base, and he'll bat second against Tampa Bay's Chris Archer.
Jul 19 2015Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in Saturday's game against the Tigers.Schoop is now 9-for-28 with two home runs and two doubles since returning to the lineup July 5. He has just 55 at-bats on the season, but Schoop has been very serviceable when healthy.
Jul 11 2015Schoop is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.Schoop hit a walk-off homer to beat the Nationals on Friday, giving him five homers in just 44 at-bats this season. He's been getting most of the playing time at second base since returning from a knee injury, with Saturday marking just his second absence from the lineup in six games. Ryan Flaherty may get a start or two per week against right-handed pitchers, but Schoop should continue to see the lion's share of at-bats.
Jul 10 2015Schoop was 2-for-4 with a ninth inning solo home run in Baltimore's walk-off win over the Nationals on Friday night.Schoop missed almost three months, but has come back and immediately contributed with a pair of home runs and a stolen base since his return on July 5. He even provided a little flare for the dramatic launching a two-out solo home run in the ninth inning of this one to give the O's a win. He figures to get most of the playing time at second base going forward.
Jul 7 2015Schoop is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Minnesota, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports.Schoop is off to a strong start since returning from an extended stint on the disabled list Sunday, with a home run and a stolen base in his first two games. He figures to serve as the regular second baseman, but Ryan Flaherty will start Tuesday's game.
Jul 5 2015Schoop (knee) was reinstated from the 60-day DL on Sunday, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports. With the Orioles sending Ryan Flaherty down to Triple-A Norfolk, Schoop will have a clear path to at-bats as he returns to action with the big club for the first time since mid-April. Schoop was off to a 7-for-27 start to the season and homered three times in nine games before succumbing to the knee injury. His average may remain a bit of risk the rest of the day, but he should be capable of providing above-average pop from a middle-infield spot.
Jul 5 2015Schoop (knee) went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Sunday in his first game back from the DL.He touched up lefty Carlos Rodon in his first plate appearance since Apr. 17, and while Schoop wasn't able to get anything going in his other four trips, he was also credited with an RBI on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. Schoop now has four homers in just 10 games this season (32 at-bats). It looks like he will serve as the primary second baseman moving forward, with Ryan Flaherty sent back to the minors.
Jul 3 2015Schoop (knee) went 2-for-4 with a homer in a rehab game with High-A Frederick on Thursday.A decision to activate and option Schoop may be coming as soon as Saturday, as the Orioles have very little roster flexibility at the present time with several veteran players out of minor league options occupying spots on the 25-man roster.
Jun 30 2015Schoop (knee) may be optioned to the minor leagues when his rehab assignment ends Friday, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports.Schoop will play with High-A Frederick this week, and while the Orioles may keep him down in the minors beyond Friday's rehab assignment deadline, he still figures to join the big-league squad at some point in July. He should eventually see a good chunk of the playing time at second base, but he won't necessarily have an every-day role.
Jun 28 2015Schoop (knee) worked out with the Orioles at Camden Yards on Sunday and could be nearing an activation, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports. The Orioles are expected to decide Monday whether or not to activate Schoop or send him to Triple-A Norfolk to advance his rehab assignment. The 23-year-old went 6-for-25 with three homers and six RBI during his stint with Double-A Bowie, and seems to be nearing the end of his recovery process. Once activated, he'll likely take over regular duties at the keystone from Ryan Flaherty.
Jun 26 2015Schoop (knee) will return to Double-A Bowie for another rehab game Friday night, Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore reports. It will likely be another day or two before the Orioles figure out how to bring Schoop back onto their roster, as the team is currently facing a roster crunch. Since Schoop is on the 60-day DL, the O's will have to clear space on the 40-man roster for his return.
Jun 23 2015Schoop (knee) is close to returning to the Orioles, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Manager Buck Showalter said Schoop could join the Orioles immediately in the event of a positional need, but the team will bring him along slowly as he works back from a right knee sprain. Schoop is currently rehabbing at Double-A Bowie.
Jun 21 2015Schoop (knee) will play his third consecutive rehab game for Double-A Bowie on Sunday, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.Schoop is hitless in his first eight at-bats at Double-A, striking out four times over that stretch. Although those results don't seem particularly encouraging, the Orioles appear to be more concerned about his durability following a knee sprain in mid-April. If he can continue to play full games without experiencing further issues, Schoop's activation could be right around the corner.
Jun 16 2015Schoop (knee) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday. The move will free up a spot on the 40-man roster for OF/1B Chris Parmelee. Schoop has already been out for two months, and while he's been working out with his teammates in Baltimore, he's still not expected to return until sometime around the All-Star break. It's unclear exactly what kind of role he'll have once he's ready.
Jun 15 2015Schoop worked out with the Orioles on Monday and took grounders at second base, Eddie Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports. As expected, Schoop is back with the big league club on a rehab basis as he continues to work back from a knee injury. He'll remain with the Orioles until Thursday, at which point he's slated to head to Double-A Bowie to continue rehabbing. Schoop remains hopeful to return around the All-Star break.
Jun 12 2015Schoop (knee) will work out with the Orioles next week, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The current plan calls for Schoop to rehab with the major league club from Monday through Thursday before possibly joining Double-A Bowie for more workouts. If all goes well, Schoop, who has been slowly building up strength in his knee down at extended spring training, could start playing in rehab games shortly after joining Bowie.
Jun 3 2015Schoop (knee) is playing in extended spring training games and could be back with the Orioles before the All-Star break, Brittany Ghiroli of Orioles.com reports.Schoop resumed baseball activities in mid-May after tearing his PCL and MCL in April. He's without a firm timetable, but if he continues to progress, Baltimore could have the infielder back before the end of the month.
May 10 2015Schoop (knee) could resume baseball activities next week, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop has been spending his time rehabbing the injury at the Orioles' spring training facility in Sarasota, Fla., and looks set to receive clearance to test out his knee on the field in the near future. The Orioles are tentatively planning to have the 23-year-old back from the disabled list in June.
May 8 2015Schoop is jogging in a pool as he recovers from his right knee sprain, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop continues to work his way back from his knee issue, and jogging in a pool is one way to build up strength in a low-impact environment. He's slated to return at some point in June, and is at least showing some signs of progression.
May 7 2015Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Schoop (knee) is progressing slowly, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports. It doesn't sound as if Schoop suffered a setback, but the team's initial timetable of six-to-eight weeks always seemed a bit optimistic, given that the second baseman suffered a PCL tear and MCL sprain. A mid-June return is probably his best-case scenario, and it remains to be seen what kind of role he'll eventually have. The Orioles have been using Steve Pearce at second base, while Ryan Flaherty (groin) is expected to return from the disabled list this weekend.
May 2 2015Schoop (knee) hopes to begin pool walking next week, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.Schoop is still in a knee brace at all hours of the day, and likely remains 4-to-6 weeks from returning to action. Steve Pearce has been playing second base for the O's lately, and Everth Cabrera and Ryan Flaherty could also see action there prior to Schoop's return.
Apr 29 2015Schoop had his injured knee drained Wednesday, according to Baltimore's radio broadcast.Schoop has been on the shelf for about two weeks since suffering a PCL tear and MCL sprain, which should mean he is still 4-to-6 weeks from returning. At this point he is simply rehabbing without baseball activities.
Apr 21 2015Schoop's (knee) timeline to return appears to be six-to-eight weeks, manager Buck Showalter told MASN Sports. We have been hearing all kinds of timelines, so take this one with a grain of salt as the Orioles seem to be all over the place on how to project the amount of time he will miss. Prior to this, the Orioles had just been hoping he would return this season, then the timeline was down to less than a month. We can reasonably expect the Orioles are learning more about the injury at this point and can make a better guess than they could several days ago.
Apr 19 2015Schoop (knee) flew to Baltimore's spring training complex to begin rehabbing his knee, MASN Sports reports. The Orioles have been tight lipped on the timeline for Schoop, but the fact he is already rehabbing is a good sign. The injury was classified as a Grade 1 sprain, which is the lightest grade.
Apr 18 2015Schoop will go to the DL a PCL tear and MCL sprain in his right knee after tripping over a base Friday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports. There's no timetable on when Schoop can return, but Buck Showalter is optimistic he can back sometime in 2015, according to Eduardo Encinca of The Baltimore Sun. Jimmy Paredes will be called up to replace Schoop on the roster. Long term, Everth Cabrera and Ryan Flaherty can be expected to man second base in Schoop's absence.
Apr 15 2015Schoop went 2-for-3 with his third homer and a walk Wednesday against the Yankees.Schoop's showing nice pop in the early going, and it seems like he might be a legitimate threat for 20 homers. But he's not going to hit for much average, nor will he provide any speed contributions.
Apr 13 2015Schoop (quad) will return to the lineup Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sore left quad, but it appears it's no longer an issue. The 23-year-old, who is 4-for-14 so far on the young season, is penciled in to bat seventh and man the second base duties.
Apr 12 2015Schoop has been scratched from Sunday's lineup, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop will be replaced by Ryan Flaherty at the keystone, as he appears to be dealing with a sore left quad. He may be available in a pinch-hit situation, however. It will be the second start of the season at second base for Flaherty, who hit .221/.288/.356 in 2014.
Apr 11 2015Schoop went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season Friday against the Blue Jays.Schoop only started two of the first three games of the season when the Orioles decided to reward Ryan Flaherty with playing time. It seems as though Schoop may have to earn his playing time this season. So far, he is outperforming Flaherty by going 3-for-10, while the home run is his only extra-base hit.
Apr 7 2015Schoop is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Tampa Bay, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.Everth Cabrera is starting at shortstop, with Ryan Flaherty manning the keystone. It's no secret that Schoop could lose his job as the primary second baseman, and it isn't a great sign that he's out of the lineup for the second game of the season, even though J.J. Hardy (elbow) is unavailable. With Hardy on track to make his 2015 debut Saturday against Toronto, Schoop could feel even more pressure from Flaherty and Cabrera.
Apr 2 2015Schoop has collected six hits in five games since returning from surgery to remove his wisdom teeth last week. For the spring, he's hitting .278 with a pair of homers and 11 RBI, but Schoop is still showing a very limited desire to draw walks (1:12 BB:K, .291 OBP), limiting the short-term upside of his combination of power and speed. With J.J. Hardy sidelined by a shoulder injury, Schoop should be safe as the O's primary second baseman to begin the season, but a healthy Hardy could free up Everth Cabrera to push Schoop for playing time at second base this season.
Mar 16 2015Schoop is 4-for-22 with a home run and two doubles through Sunday's spring training games.Schoop has seven strikeouts this spring. He had a 41.3% o-swing in 2014, nearly 10 basis points above the league average. Schoop said he expected to steal more bases this season, but he has not attempted a steal this spring.
Feb 2 2015Schoop said he hopes to steal more bases in the 2015 season, according to MASN Sports.Schoop has never been known for great speed and he said he was attempting to lose about 10-to-15 pounds in the offseason. He had lost just four as of late January. Even if Schoop can steal some more bases, double digit figures in the category would be a surprise after he stole two in his rookie year.
Sep 25 2014Schoop is out of the lineup for the third straight game Thursday against the Yankees, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports. The Orioles will continue to roll with Kelly Johnson at second base, as he's delivered five hits in his last nine at-bats. Johnson figures to see the majority of the at-bats at the keystone over the Orioles' final handful of regular season games, potentially leaving Schoop to fill a bench role during the postseason.
Sep 24 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop will be on the bench for a second straight day with Kelly Johnson getting the start at second base in his place. Schoop has been struggling at the plate, hitting .145 over 62 at-bats in September.
Sep 23 2014Schoop is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports.Schoop will get a day off after going 0-for-7 over his last three games. Kelly Johnson will get the start at second base in Schoop's place.
Sep 13 2014Schoop is not in the lineup Saturday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports.Schoop homered in three consecutive games earlier this month, but he's recorded just one hit in his last seven starts (28 at-bats), so manager Buck Showalter will give the 22-year-old a day to sit back and observe. Ryan Flaherty will man second base and bat eighth against right-hander Shane Greene.
Sep 3 2014Schoop went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Reds.Schoop homered for the second game in a row and he does not have a strikeout in nine September at-bats. He has been a below-average hitter this season, but the hope is he can take a step forward in 2015.
Aug 31 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop will get a breather Sunday after starting each of the past 16 games for the Orioles. Ryan Flaherty will spell him at second base.
Aug 13 2014Schoop hit his 11th homer of the season Wednesday night off of Yankees reliever Dellin Betances, tying the game in the eighth inning. It's been a season of growing pains for Schoop, who entered Wednesday's play with just 10 walks against 82 strikeouts in 329 at-bats. But let's keep in mind that he is just 22 years old while taking over the majority of the playing time at second base on a potentially playoff-bound team. His minor league numbers suggest that there's improvement on the horizon in his career.
Aug 3 2014Schoop is not in the lineup Sunday vs. the Mariners, Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore reports.Manager Buck Schowalter will stack his lineup with as many left-handed bats as possible to counter tough righty Hisashi Iwakuma. As a result, Schoop gets the afternoon off while Ryan Flaherty slots in at second base.
Jul 23 2014Schoop connected on his eighth home run of the season Tuesday in the Orioles' 4-2 win over the Angels.Schoop is generally not counted on for his bat, but when Machado was scratched from the lineup, he moved up to the seventh spot in the order. Following J.J Hardy's RBI double in the sixth, Schoop delivered a two-run shot to center to make it a three run inning on reliever Mike Morin. Each of Schoop's homers this season have come on the road.
Jul 20 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Sunday vs. the Athletics, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports. It seems to be just a routine day off for Schoop. Ryan Flaherty will cover the keystone for him in the Orioles' series finale.
Jul 18 2014Schoop hit a 399-foot home run as he went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI against the Athletics on Friday.Although he continues to struggle with contact rate and batting average, Schoop is still doing enough with the bat to stay in the lineup most nights. The 22-year old second baseman has a bright future with the Orioles but will remain inconsistent for the rest of the year.
Jul 11 2014Schoop is not in the starting lineup Friday, Eduaro A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.Ryan Flaherty is getting the spot start at second base. Schoop has a .219/.257/.322 line through 77 games this season.
Jul 6 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Schoop played in both games of the Saturday's doubleheader, going a combined 3-for-8 with a run scored during the two tilts. He'll just be grabbing some rest Sunday, with Ryan Flaherty manning second base in his stead.
Jun 27 2014Schoop is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Rays, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.Ryan Flaherty will take over at second base as Schoop sits after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Game 1. Schoop has hit just .237/.308/.322 so far in June, but it seems likely he'll continue to see most of the work at the keystone for the Orioles.
Jun 25 2014Schoop is out of the Orioles' lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Schoop started six of the past seven games, batting .182 (4-for-22) with one homer, two RBI, and three runs scored. In his place, Ryan Flaherty is covering the keystone and hitting eighth in the order.
Jun 16 2014Schoop isn't in the Orioles' lineup Monday at Tampa Bay, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Despite tallying hits in three of his last four appearances, Schoop continues to scuffle at the plate, as evidenced by his .224/.268/.343 line on the season. In his stead, Ryan Flaherty will cover the keystone and bat eighth in the order.
Jun 14 2014Schoop is not in the lineup Saturday, the Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reports.Ryan Flaherty will get the start at second base, as Schoop seems to be in the lineup roughly 70 percent of the time. He looks like he belongs at the plate, but the numbers don't really back that up so far this season, as he's slashing .223/.268/.345.
Jun 10 2014Schoop is out of the lineup again Tuesday, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reportsRyan Flaherty is making another start at second base and batting ninth, while Schoop is on the bench for the third time in the O's last four games.
Jun 9 2014Schoop is out of the Orioles' lineup Monday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.Sitting for the second time in three games, Schoop will yield second base to Ryan Flaherty. Despite racking up seven hits in his last six appearances, Schoop's line still resides at an unpalatable .223/.263/.346 on the season.
Jun 7 2014Schoop isn't in the Orioles' lineup Saturday against the Athletics, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.Schoop has tallied hits in four of the last five contests, during which he's hit .350 (7-for-20) with one RBI and three runs. He'll hand over second base to Ryan Flaherty, who is batting ninth in the order.
May 29 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Thursday vs. the Astros, MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports.Schoop came up huge in the first game of the Orioles' series earlier this week with Milwaukee, going 3-for-5 with two solo homers, but provided just one hit in eight at-bats over the final two contests. The 22-year-old Schoop may fall victim to the occasional dry spell here and there, but as Monday's performance shows, he possesses more offensive upside than any of the team's other options at second base.
May 22 2014Schoop is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Indians, according to Roch Kubato of MASN Sports.Schoop started the last four games at second base, but manager Buck Showalter decided to give him a day off Thursday. Ryan Flaherty will get the start at second base in Schoop's place.
May 16 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Friday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.Ryan Flaherty will man the keystone, as Schoop will get his third day off in the Orioles' last six games. He hasn't produced much at the plate, slashing .224/.268/.362, and isn't a true "everyday" player, which makes him a tough player to own in 12-team leagues.
May 15 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Thursday against the Royals, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.Schoop was seen wearing wrapping on his right index finger after dealing with some slight swelling, but he'll still be available off the bench for the Orioles, indicating the injury isn't problematic. Consider it just a day of rest for Schoop, while Ryan Flaherty gets the nod at second base.
May 11 2014Schoop is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros, Rich Dubroff of CSNBaltimore.com reports.Manager Buck Showalter has appeared to settle on Schoop as his everyday second baseman, and the rookie hasn't disappointed of late recording a hit in each of his last four games and driving in four runs during that time. Even so, Schoop typically remains relegated to the bottom third of the lineup for the Orioles, undermining his ability to rack up runs.
May 1 2014Schoop is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader with the Pirates, according to Roch Kubato of MASN Sports.Schoop has started the last 10 games, but he will be held out Thursday afternoon after tallying two hits and seven strikeouts over his last four contests. Schoop has seen time at both second base and third base this season, but he will lose some playing time at the hot corner moving forward with Manny Machado set to make his season debut.
Apr 24 2014Schoop hit a solo homer and scored a pair of runs in Thursday's win at Toronto. The young infielder hasn't really done much so far this season, other than a four-hit performance Friday. Once Manny Machado returns from the disabled list, which is expected soon, Schoop will see most of his playing time at second base.
Apr 18 2014Schoop was 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI as Baltimore downed Boston on Friday night. He is now hitting .304 and has accumulated eight RBI but has recently been sitting more often. He'll need to string together some strong performances over the next few games with Manny Machado due back from the disabled list fairly soon.
Apr 15 2014Schoop is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rays, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Ryan Flaherty is manning the hot corner and Steve Lombardozzi is playing second base while Schoop sits again Tuesday night.
Apr 14 2014Schoop isn't in the Orioles' lineup Monday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.Schoop is yielding the hot corner to Ryan Flaherty, who will also assume the final spot in the order. Apr 11 2014Schoop was 1-for-3 but committed two throwing errors in a two-run fourth inning that proved to be the difference as the Orioles dropped a 2-0 decision to Toronto on Friday night. He's getting regular playing time now but that may change when Manny Machado returns from the disabled list. The Orioles will soon need to decide whether he or Ryan Flaherty deserves more opportunities and defensive lapses won't help his cause.
Apr 9 2014Schoop went 2-for-3 with a three run home run off Masahiro Tanaka on Wednesday.Schoop had his first big moment in the majors Wednesday, taking the Yankees' prized starter yard in the second inning. The Orioles never looked back after that, and held on to win the game 5-4. Schoop now has three extra base hits and five RBI on the young season, but his playing time stands to decrease once Manny Machado (knee) returns to the Orioles' lineup.
Apr 5 2014Schoop will make his second start of the season at third base Saturday, MASN Sports reports.Through five games, Schoop has made two starts at second base and two starts at third base. Most of his reps will come at second base, but the Orioles seem to be set to rely on him defensively at third as well. He should continue to see a good amount of playing time, at least until Manny Machado returns. Schoop is 2-for-11 with four strikeouts to begin the season.
Apr 2 2014Schoop is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox, MASN Sports reports.Schoop go the Opening Day start and singled in three at-bats. Steve Lombardozzi gets Wednesday's start. It looks like Schoop will platoon with Lombardozzi, with Schoop starting against left-handers. There is still a chance Schoop earns an every day shot if Lombardozzi does not perform.
Mar 31 2014Schoop is in Monday's lineup, and will start at second base, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Schoop will get the start against lefty Jon Lester, and will continue to be a likely candidate for starts against left-handed pitching. The switch-hitting Steve Lombardozzi is likely his main competition for playing time when a righty takes the mound, but Schoop is also a potential candidate for reps at third base this season while Manny Machado remains sidelined. Ryan Flaherty will start at the hot corner on Monday, though.
Mar 29 2014Schoop made the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports. As expected, Schoop beat out Jemile Weeks for one of the final roster spots, putting the 22-year-old in position to see playing time at second base and perhaps third. Schoop and Steve Lombardozzi will likely split second-base duties to start the season, but Schoop may be able to take the job for his own at some point.
Mar 28 2014Schoop is likely to break camp with the Orioles, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.Schoop appears to have earned his way onto the Opening Day roster by going 15-for-39 (.385) with two home runs and eight RBI in 22 spring games. It remains to be seen if he will be in the Opening Day lineup, but he is expected to share time with Steve Lombardozzi at second base, and with Ryan Flaherty at third.
Mar 10 2014Schoop is gaining ground in the Orioles' second base position battle, the Baltimore Sun reports. "He might be continuing to make it an easy decision," said manager Buck Showalter.Schoop is expected to win the job at some point down the road, but the 22-year-old is certainly helping his case this spring, posting a 1.438 OPS over 17 at-bats in Grapefruit League play. Although the sample size is small, four of Schoop's nine hits have went for extra bases, as the youngster is showing some impressive pop in his bat. Ryan Flaherty and Jemile Weeks were originally the frontrunners for the job, but if Schoop continues on his recent tear, Buck Showalter may be forced to make the change earlier than expected.
Mar 8 2014Schoop is 6-for-12 with a home run and two doubles in seven spring training games through Saturday. The Orioles have said Schoop is competing for the starting spot at second base and he has had a very good camp so far. It is important to note that he has five strikeouts so far, meaning he has an .857 BABIP in the small sample size. The extra base hits show he is squaring up, however, so he is in a good spot. Ryan Flaherty also has good numbers, but Jemile Weeks is just 2-for-13. That is good news for Schoop, who is expected to claim the job at some point during the season anyway.
Mar 3 2014Schoop should see an opportunity to compete for the Orioles' second base job, MASN Sports reports.Schoop will continue to face stiff competition from Ryan Flaherty and Jemile Weeks, but manager Buck Showalter commented on Monday that Schoop is "very much in the mix" for the job. Originally considered a long shot to make the final roster, Schoop helped his case by homering in both intrasquad scrimmage games last week. If he can continue to show off an explosive bat, Schoop can only further help his chances.
Feb 27 2014Schoop homered in both Orioles intrasquad games Wednesday and Thursday, MASN Sports reports.Schoop would need an explosive spring to have a shot of making the club out of spring training. Ryan Flaherty and Jemile Weeks should keep second base warm while Schoop continues to get experience, but that could change if Schoop proves he is ready sooner rather than later.

Dec 8 2013Orioles GM Dan Duquette said that Schoop could benefit from some more experience in the minor leagues, MASN reports. The implication is that Schoop will open the season with Triple-A Norfolk, leaving Ryan Flaherty as the likely Opening Day starter at second base. Despite what Duquette said, it wouldn't be all that surprising if Schoop were to start the season in Baltimore.
Sep 29 2013Schoop (back) is in the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, MASN reports.Brian Roberts will be the DH as Schoop mans second base in the final game of the season.
Sep 28 2013Schoop is dealing with a possible back injury and is unavailable Saturday night, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports. With the season coming to a close Sunday, Schoop is probably done for the year. He went 2-for-10 with a home run during his first stint in the majors. In all likelihood, he'll start next season with Triple-A Norfolk.
Sep 2 2013Schoop will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, MASN reports.Whenever he steps on the field, Schoop will be making his major league debut. He has spent the majority of his of age-21 season at Norfolk, putting up a .255/.298/.397 slash line with nine homers, 34 RBI, and 30 runs scored. Upon joining the big club, he'll provide support in the middle infield.
Jul 31 2013Schoop could make his MLB debut in August when Brian Roberts goes on paternity leave, MASN Sports reports. There are options abound for Schoop, who has also been tied to recent trade rumors. Unless the Orioles get an impact player in a trade at the deadline, Schoop should compete for the second base job in 2014. At the minimum Schoop should be called up by September, when rosters expand, no matter who he plays for.
Jul 25 2013Schoop (back) will likely resume action at Triple-A Norfolk over the weekend, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.Schoop has been rehabbing with short-season Aberdeen the last two games, batting 4-for-9 with an RBI. Since it appears he's progressing well, he figures to be activated from Norfolk's 7-day DL in short order, giving about a month's worth of time to make his case for a September call-up.
Jul 10 2013Schoop (back), as expected, will start a rehab assignment Thursday, the Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reports.Schoop is one of the more highly regarded prospects in the Orioles' farm system but hasn't had much success with the bat since leaving Low-A Delmarva midway through the 2012 season. Stints at High-A Frederick, Double-A Bowie, and Triple-A Norfolk have all resulted in similarly mediocre production. It's a good sign that ever since leaving Delmarva he's been able to move through the minors so quickly without seeing his statistics drop, but the starting point for those numbers was an unimpressive .271/.329/.375 batting line at High-A Frederick. In any case, Schoop has been out for over seven weeks with a stress fracture in his back and will almost certainly report to Triple-A Norfolk once he's ready.
May 22 2013Schoop has developed a stress fracture in his lower back and could require six-to-eight weeks of rest, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.Schoop will receive a second opinion from a doctor in California before heeding the advice on resting, but either way, it's looking like he'll miss all of June at least. The 21-year-old infielder was viewed as a candidate to fill the team's void at second base at some point this season, but a lengthy stint on the minor league DL figures to prompt the Orioles to look at other options.
Mar 23 2013Schoop was sent to minor league camp Saturday, mlb.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.Between the World Baseball Classic and spring training, Schoop has seen plenty of high level competition this spring. Now he'll head to Triple-A Norfolk, which was the expectation all along. The 21-year-old middle infielder slashed .245/.324/.386 in 555 plate apperances with Double-A Bowie last season. He could earn a call-up at some point before the end of the year.
