Jun 20 2024Grossman started in left field and went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman ignited a rally in the bottom of the first inning when he drew the first of three two-out walks, stole a base (his third of the season), and eventually scored Texas' first run. He later raced home from first base on a double in the sixth. Grossman has recently become a fixture in the starting lineup against left-handers, usually batting third. He's batting .333 (9-for-27) with a home run, a double, six RBI, a stolen base and five additional runs scored during the month of June.
Jun 4 2024Grossman started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 2-1 loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman served as the starting DH for a third straight game, all against lefties, and is 3-for-10 with a double and three RBI during that stretch. His elevation to the starting lineup coincides with Ezequiel Duran replacing the lefty-hitting Nathaniel Lowe at first base in those three contests, which suggests a strategic change against left-handers. The Rangers have been middle-of-the-pack against lefties this season (.242 average, 16th).
Jun 2 2024Grossman went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman doubled in the Rangers' first run then produced another run with a seventh-inning single. Until Saturday, he hadn't made an impact since the Rangers acquired him from the White Sox -- Grossman entered the game 2-for-20 with Texas.
May 22 2024Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Rangers have an opening in the lineup at designated hitter while Wyatt Langford (hamstring) is on the shelf, Grossman hasn't yet taken hold of an everyday lineup spot, despite starting in each of the previous four games. Three of those starts came while the Rangers were facing left-handed pitching, and switch-hitting Grossman hasn't helped his case for earning steadier playing time by going 1-for-16 with five walks in seven games since he was acquired from the White Sox earlier this month. The Rangers may prefer to rotate a number of players at DH rather than committing to Grossman as their preferred option.
May 13 2024Grossman started in left field and went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was the third different starter in left field in as many games. He followed Ezequiel Duran and Travis Jankowski, as manager Bruce Bochy navigates injuries to Evan Carter (back) and Wyatt Langford (hamstring, IL). This was Grossman's second start in three games since he was traded to Texas from the White Sox last week -- the other was as designated hitter.
May 8 2024The Rangers acquired Grossman from the White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman won a World Series ring with the Rangers last season, and they've now elected to bring him back into the fold. The 34-year-old will provide some depth in the corner outfield and at designated hitter while Wyatt Langford (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list. Grossman should see most of his opportunities against left-handed pitching.
May 5 2024Grossman went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman opened the game with a leadoff double off Matthew Liberatore before ripping a one-out single in the third frame, swiping second base for his second steal of the season. He also added a sacrifice fly off John King in top of the seventh inning, scoring teammate Bryan Ramos for the team's final tally of the game. Grossman has been splitting time with Gavin Sheets in the outfield, starting most often when the team faces a left-hander like Liberatore, but he has now gone 4-for-11 with three doubles, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base over his last three contests.
Apr 24 2024Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The switch-hitting Grossman finds himself on the bench against a right-handed pitcher for the second day in a row. While Grossman should still be a regular part of the lineup versus left-handed pitching, Gavin Sheets appears to have supplanted him as the primary option in right field.
Apr 23 2024Grossman is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has a .526 OPS in 53 plate appearances this season and will sit Tuesday for the third time in Chicago's past five games. The veteran outfielder's time with the White Sox could be up soon if the organization elects to promote Tommy Pham.
Apr 21 2024Grossman is starting in right field and batting second in Sunday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has not been in the starting lineup for each of the White Sox's last two contests. He's gone 0-for-9 in his last three appearances, striking out five times over that span. The switch-hitting Grossman will hope to get back on track against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola.
Apr 20 2024Grossman isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has fallen into an 0-for-9 skid since having his five-game hitting streak snapped, and he'll now sit for the second straight game Saturday. His absence will allow Gavin Sheets to start in right field, batting third.
Apr 17 2024Grossman is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman had started in the corner outfield and occupied the leadoff spot in each of the previous eight games, reaching base at a .417 clip during that stretch while providing limited counting stats (zero home runs, one stolen base, three runs and one RBI). Given how poorly the White Sox offense as a whole has performed this season, Grossman has probably done enough to retain a near-everyday role, though he could sit more frequently than he had been over the past week after Chicago welcomed Eloy Jimenez back from the injured list Monday. Jimenez will serve as the White Sox's designated hitter in the opening game Wednesday, while Andrew Benintendi and Gavin Sheets start at the corner-outfield spots.
Apr 11 2024Grossman went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base Wednesday against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old joined the White Sox on Friday after the team lost Eloy Jimenez (thigh). Grossman has been in the lineup for five of six games since and occupied the leadoff spot on four occasions. While he's hitting only .167 in that span, Grossman has worked five free passes and scored three runs while also stealing a base. Given the injury to Luis Robert (hip), it's likely that Grossman will stick on the roster when Jimenez returns -- which could come as soon as Friday.
Apr 8 2024Grossman will get an extended chance to serve as the White Sox's leadoff hitter, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman had his contract selected by the club Friday and has started two of three games since. He led off for the first time Sunday and went 0-for-5, but after the game, manager Pedro Grifol suggested Grossman would get more looks at the top of the order. Andrew Benintendi has served as the leadoff hitter to this point, but he hit fifth Sunday and could stick in that position.
Apr 5 2024Grossman will start in right field and bat sixth in Friday's game versus the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman had his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the day and immediately finds himself thrown into the lineup. Most of his playing time figures to come against lefties given his career .808 OPS versus southpaws, but the 34-year-old is getting a shot Friday against righty Brady Singer.
Apr 4 2024White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Thursday that Grossman may join the MLB roster within the next week, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has been on fire to start the season at Triple-A Charlotte. going 3-for-7 with two home runs and five RBI across Charlotte's first two games. There's no telling exactly when the 34-year-old will join the active roster, but Getz lauded Grossman as being an accomplished hitter in the majors and emphasized his ability to play multiple outfield positions, so a move could come sooner rather than later.
Mar 22 2024Grossman signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Friday that includes an invite to big-league camp, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was unable to land a contract throughout the offseason but will join Chicago in the final stages of spring training. The veteran outfielder played in 115 games for the Rangers last season and had a .238/.340/.394 slash line with 10 home runs. He'll likely begin the campaign with Triple-A Charlotte before potentially getting a look with the big club given how late he signed.
Oct 10 2023Grossman remains out of the lineup Tuesday for Game 3 of the ALDS against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Texas will ride the hot hand with Mitch Garver, who is again filling the DH role and batting third after going 2-for-6 with a grand slam and five total RBI in Sunday's 11-8, Game 2 victory over Baltimore. Grossman is 2-for-14 with eight strikeouts so far this postseason.
Oct 8 2023Grossman is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Orioles on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman hit third as Texas' designated hitter in the first three games of the playoffs, but he'll take a seat Sunday after he went 2-for-14 with a double, a walk and eight strikeouts. Mitch Garver finished the regular season as the Rangers' primary DH and will fill that role in Game 2.
Oct 3 2023Grossman is starting at designated hitter and batting third in Tuesday's Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has always hit lefties better than righties and this season was no different, as he collected a .953 OPS against southpaws and just a .633 OPS versus right-handers. It makes him a curious choice for the DH spot versus and especially the three hole vs. righty Tyler Glasnow, but he's nonetheless manager Bruce Bochy's choice over Mitch Garver.
Sep 26 2023Grossman started in left field and went 0-for-1 with two walks in Monday's 5-1 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman, who made his first start in nearly a week, was eventually replaced by Evan Carter when righty relievers came in to pitch. Grossman's plate appearances have ticked down since injured Rangers returned to the lineup last week. He's now the short side of a platoon in left field with Carter. Grossman's made eight plate appearances over the last seven games.
Sep 20 2023Grossman is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Adolis Garcia and Josh Jung back in the fold, Grossman's run as a semi-regular may be at an end. He should still get some starts at designated hitter and in left field, but Evan Carter looks poised to get the majority of left-field starts, especially against righties, and Mitch Garver is starting at designated hitter for the second time in the last three games.
Sep 18 2023Grossman isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was initially slated to man right field and bat sixth, but with Adolis Garcia officially back from a knee injury, he'll take a seat. Grossman and Evan Carter figure to fight for opportunities in left field with Garcia back in action.
Sep 14 2023Grossman went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, two RBI and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman continues to carry a hot bat, as he homered for a second straight game and is 5-for-9 in the series. He's filled in nicely for the injured Adolis Garcia (knee), starting five straight games while batting third in the last two.
Sep 12 2023Grossman went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's victory over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman opened the game's scoring with his 375-foot, two-run homer off Hyun Jin Ryu in the fourth inning. The switch-hitter drew his fourth straight start in right field as he looks to be manager Bruce Bochy's preferred replacement for Adolis Garcia (knee). Grossman is slashing .237/.328/.397 over 325 at-bats in 104 games this season.
Sep 8 2023Grossman isn't in the Rangers' lineup Friday against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a breather Friday after failing to record a hit over his last four games. Ezequiel Duran will start in left field and bat seventh in Grossman's place.
Sep 7 2023Grossman entered Wednesday's game for the injured Adolis Garcia (knee) and went 0-for-3 in a loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went 0-for-7 during the three-game series against the Astros and is hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Garcia's exit put an exclamation point on an ugly, during which Texas was swept by its division foe and outscored, 39-10. Grossman could get more plate appearances, if Garcia's injury lingers. The Rangers are off Thursday before kicking off a three-game set Friday against the lowly Athletics.
Sep 6 2023Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old started the previous five games but will sit against Houston righty Justin Verlander. Grossman appears to have reclaimed the primary job in left field, but it'll be Travis Jankowski who starts there in Wednesday's series finale.
Sep 3 2023Grossman will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will pick up his third consecutive start in left field and has now been included in the lineup seven times in the past eight games. He's maintained a 1.034 OPS over his prior six starts and looks like he'll remain a priority in the Texas lineup over Travis Jankowski and J.P. Martinez while he's swinging a hot bat.
Aug 30 2023Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will head to the bench after he started each of the last four games while going 3-for-11 with a double, four walks, two runs and two RBI over that stretch. With Mitch Garver having seemingly taken over as the Rangers' top designated hitter, Grossman is primarily battling the likes of Travis Jankowski and J.P. Martinez for playing time in left field.
Aug 27 2023Grossman will start in left field and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman is back in the lineup for the second straight day after going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 6-2 win, but he didn't start in any of the preceding three games. Mitch Garver still appears to have the edge on the primary designated-hitter role for Texas, but Grossman will pick up a start in left field Sunday while Travis Jankowski rests.
Aug 9 2023Grossman will serve as the Rangers' designated hitter and No. 7 hitter in Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Grossman is maintaining an underwhelming .698 OPS on the season, he's at least been productive to begin August. After doubling twice and drawing a walk in Tuesday's 6-1 win, Grossman's slash line sits at .278/.381/.611 through six games this month. He'll remain in the lineup Wednesday for the sixth game in a row and should have a clear path to a regular role while Josh Jung (thumb) is on the shelf.
Aug 7 2023Grossman started at designated hitter and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman made his third consecutive start and could see an uptick in plate appearances as the primary DH due to Josh Jung's thumb injury. The third baseman suffered a broken thumb on Sunday and likely faces a multi-week absence. Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith are expected to fill in at third base, which opens up DH for Grossman. While that's a good thing for the player, it may be less so for fantasy managers. Grossman is batting .189 with a .634 OPS over 104 plate appearances since June 1. The Rangers could also rotation catchers Mitch Garver and Sam Huff at DH.
Aug 6 2023Grossman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fourth-inning shot off George Soriano got the Rangers on the board and snapped a 25-game power drought -- his last homer came June 11. Grossman's playing time has become inconsistent over the last couple months, but with both Leody Taveras (.544 OPS since the All-Star break) and Ezequiel Duran (.448 OPS since the break) slumping, the door could be open for the veteran outfielder to reclaim some of those lost plate appearances. In 12 post-ASB games, Grossman has a .250/.382/.500 slash line.
Jul 27 2023Grossman started in left field and went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 13-5 win over Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman started for the first time in six games and was part of an emotional night in Houston that saw the benches clear, a couple of batters hit and Marcus Semien ejected. Travis Jankowski has become the left fielder du jour for the Rangers, which has marginalized Grossman who entered the contest with just 27 plate appearances during the month of July.
Jul 5 2023Grossman started in left field and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman, who made his first start since June 27, was in a serious funk and entered Tuesday hitting .120 (6-for-50) over the previous 18 games, although he did generate 10 walks. Left field is filled with a rotation of bodies, and both Ezequiel Duran and Travis Jankowski are swinging a better bat than Grossman.
Jun 11 2023Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Grossman's first game action since Wednesday as he continues to slip into a bench role. He's hit safely in four of six games in June, going 4-for-18 (.222) with a homer, three RBI and two doubles. The veteran outfielder has a mediocre .238/.315/.392 slash line with seven homers, 32 RBI, 34 runs scored, eight doubles and no stolen bases over 216 plate appearances this season. He'll need to show a bit more to challenge either Ezequiel Duran in left field or Mitch Garver at designated hitter for more playing time.
Jun 5 2023Grossman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will sit for the third time in five games and may have moved into a backup role in the wake of Texas recently bringing back Ezequiel Duran and Mitch Garver from the injured list. With Duran likely to see most of his opportunities in left field for the foreseeable future and with Garver picking up his third straight start at designated hitter Monday, both of Grossman's primary avenues to playing time are now blocked.
Jun 3 2023Grossman is out of the lineup Saturday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ezequiel Duran, Leody Taveras and Adolis Garcia will start across the outfield versus the Mariners and right-hander Bryan Woo. Mitch Garver is serving as the Rangers' designated hitter.
May 31 2023Grossman is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will take a seat after he went 0-for-5 with four walks and three runs scored over the first two games of the series. Bubba Thompson will draw the start in left field and bat ninth in the series finale with Detroit.
May 27 2023Grossman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 12-2 win over Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman joined the fun at Camden Yards with his sixth home run. He's been a streaky hitter for Texas and entered Friday's game with one hit over his previous 18 at-bats.
May 21 2023Grossman went 1-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's 11-5 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman delivered one run on a sacrifice fly then plated two more on a single. The outfielder is riding a six-game hit streak, during which he's 9-for-25 (.360) with eight RBI. He played himself out an everyday role earlier this season, batting .135 over the first two weeks, but Grossman has turned it around with a .295 average (31-for-105) since April 16.
May 14 2023Grossman went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two total runs scored in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman made an early impact with a two-run homer in the first inning. He also added an RBI single during the Rangers' eight-run eighth inning. The outfielder has seen a slight uptick in power with five extra-base hits over his last five contests, a span in which he's gone 7-for-24 (.292). For the season, he's slashing .246/.301/.418 with five homers, 21 RBI, 22 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 33 games.
May 13 2023Grossman went 2-for-6 with a double, a home run, two RBI and one run scored in Friday's loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman pulled a solo shot to right in the top of the sixth, putting the Rangers up 5-4. This was the outfielder's fourth homer of the year, and he's now slashing .239/.299/.389. The former Twin is on pace to have his most productive year since 2021, when he smacked 23 long balls and had 67 RBI.
May 6 2023Grossman went 1-for-5 in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's first-inning single extended his hit streak to 13 games, during which he's 16-for-47 (.340) with two home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and 14 runs scored. He was hitting a meager .135 over the first two weeks of the season and losing at-bats, but Grossman has turned it around nicely and is getting regular playing time again. He's started seven of the last eight games.
May 3 2023Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a breather after he went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's win. Jonah Heim will move to designated hitter while Sandy Leon enters the lineup at catcher and bats ninth in the series finale.
Apr 28 2023Grossman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman pummeled a Clarke Schmidt fastball to put the Rangers up 5-0 in the third inning. The two-run shot extended Grossman's hit streak to nine games. Grossman wasn't finished, as he picked up two more knocks. His average has jumped from .135 to .246 during this stretch. After a slow start, Grossman is finally making an impact in his first season with the Rangers.
Mar 31 2023Grossman started in right field went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Thursday's 11-7 win over Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's three-run shot was part of the Rangers' nine-run fourth inning and tied the game after Texas had fallen behind 5-0. The switch hitter launched it from the left side, which is supposed to be his weaker side. Grossman is expected to serve as the team's primary left fielder -- he moved there later in the game -- but center fielder Leody Taveras' oblique injury may upset lineup plans early on. Adolis Garcia started in center while Josh Smith manned left field.
Mar 19 2023Rangers manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Grossman will be the primary left fielder to open the season for the Rangers, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not a huge surprise, but it's worth noting. Grossman was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason, and the switch-hitting outfielder has been excellent in the Cactus League with a 1.167 OPS and two homers over his first 38 plate appearances. With Grossman the everyday option in left, Brad Miller will likely rotate at designated hitter with Jonah Heim and Mitch Garver while also occasionally spelling Grossman in left.
Feb 25 2023Grossman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run during Friday's spring game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman took Kansas City starter Daniel Lynch deep on a ball up in the zone. With a lefty throwing for the Royals, the switch-hitting Grossman got the start in left field. He mashed southpaws in 2022 (.320/.436/.443) but was less productive against righties. As such, Grossman's in a position for a possible platoon in left field. Texas manager Bruce Bochy noted earlier this spring that he's open to a platoon in left, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Feb 17 2023Grossman agreed to a contract with the Rangers on Friday evening, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: ESPN's Buster Olney reported Friday morning that Grossman was in talks with Texas, and now there is a deal in place. Joel Sherman of the New York Post has it as a one-year, $2 million pact with another $3 million available in performance bonuses. The 33-year-old immediately jumps to the top of a long list of left-field options for the Rangers, even after slumping to a .209/.310/.311 slash line in 129 games (477 plate appearances) last season between Detroit and Atlanta -- Grossman posted a .772 OPS with 23 home runs and 20 stolen bases in 156 games for the Tigers in 2021. He's a switch-hitter but tends to fare better against left-handed pitching, so he could ultimately platoon with Josh Smith, Brad Miller or Bubba Thompson, all of whom were better against righties than Grossman last season.
Sep 27 2022Grossman isn't starting Tuesday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman -- batting .207 in September -- will get another day to stretch his legs Tuesday. While he watches from the dugout, Eddie Rosario will fill in for him in left field and bat seventh.
Sep 26 2022Grossman is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Washington, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Ronald Acuna (back) returning from a four-game absence and with Eddie Rosario swinging a hot bat of late, Grossman will head to the bench while the former two players fill out the corner-outfield spots. Grossman is slashing .207/.299/.397 in September and could end up moving into a short-side platoon role if Rosario continues to capitalize on his opportunities in the games to come.
Sep 19 2022Grossman isn't starting Monday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran switch-hitter rests after tallying a home run, a double and two RBI in Sunday's game versus Philadelphia. Eddie Rosario slots into the lineup for Monday's series opener.
Sep 18 2022Grossman went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Sunday's 5-2 win over Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman knocked an RBI double in the third inning before going deep in the seventh. He's collected multiple hits in three of his last eight games and has now gone 25-for-106 (.236) with five long balls and 21 RBI in 36 games since joining Atlanta. On the year, Grossman is slashing .214/.317/.319 with 25 extra-base hits through 119 contests.
Sep 17 2022Grossman will sit Saturday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman hits the bench after starting nine straight games. He was needed in an everyday role while Ronald Acuna's knee issues limited him to designated hitter duty, but Acuna is now able play the field again, so Grossman could find himself on the bench more frequently going forward. He managed a .943 OPS with two home runs and a steal over that nine-game stretch, however, a performance which should prevent his playing time from being cut too significantly.
Sep 14 2022Grossman went 3-for-3 with and RBI while also getting caught stealing in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman provided all the offense for Atlanta on Wednesday, ripping an RBI single off Carlos Rodon in the top of the third frame before getting picked off trying to steal second a couple batters later. The three-hit effort was his second over his last six games, batting .300 with two homers, six RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base over that stretch.
Sep 9 2022Grossman went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a stolen base in a 6-4 win against Seattle on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman singled in the first inning, singled home a run and stole second in the fourth and tacked on a solo home run in the sixth. The 32-year-old was batting just 2-for-27 across his last 10 games prior to Friday's outburst, though he's been active on the bases with three thefts in his last 13 contests. Grossman is slashing .209/.316/.302 with five home runs, 35 runs, 38 RBI and six stolen bases in 112 games.
Sep 4 2022Grossman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman is on the bench against a right-handed pitcher (Pablo Lopez) for the second day in a row, perhaps signaling that he's moving into a reserve role in the Atlanta outfield. Meanwhile, Marcell Ozuna, who went 3-for-7 with a double in the first two games of the series, will draw his third consecutive start in left field Sunday and may have supplanted Grossman atop the depth chart.
Sep 3 2022Grossman isn't starting Saturday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman is getting a breather after he went 0-for-8 with two walks and three strikeouts over the last three games. Marcell Ozuna will start in left field and bat eighth.
Aug 24 2022Grossman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 14-2 rout of the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hitting ninth and getting the start in left field, Grossman carved out more than his share of the production on the day, including his fourth steal of the year. The veteran switch hitter has seized a starting role with Atlanta, and in 17 games for his new club he's batting .260 (13-for-50) with two doubles, two homers, one steal, seven runs and eight RBI.
Aug 21 2022Grossman will start in right field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has settled into a near-everyday role of late with Atlanta phasing out Marcell Ozuna and, to a lesser extent, William Contreras as regulars in the lineup. The trade-deadline pickup from Detroit will make his sixth consecutive start Sunday after going 4-for-16 with two home runs, two walks, five RBI and an additional run across the last five games.
Aug 17 2022Grossman went 1-for-3 with one homer, three RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 9-7 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves' most recent outfield addition hit a huge three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to move the game to 6-5 and give the Braves a chance to win the game. Grossman has now hit home runs two nights in a row and is looking like an upgrade over Marcell Ozuna, who has struggled mightily this season and is losing playing time to both Grossman and Eddie Rosario.
Aug 10 2022Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman, whom Atlanta acquired from Detroit on Aug. 1, had picked up starts in three of the past four games in the corner outfield, going 1-for-9 with two walks, a double and an RBI. The switch-hitting Grossman is expected to serve as a short-side platoon option for Atlanta, with Eddie Rosario and Ronald Acuna typically seeing the bulk of the starts at either corner-outfield spot.
Aug 1 2022Grossman was traded to Atlanta from Detroit on Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a season and part of another in Detroit, Grossman will head to Atlanta and improve the team's outfield depth. Expect him to see most of his action against left-handers, against whom he owns a .999 OPS this season over 96 plate appearances.
Jul 29 2022Grossman isn't starting Friday against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman started the last two games and went 1-for-7 with a double, a walk and three strikeouts. Willi Castro is taking over in right field while Akil Baddoo starts in left.
Jul 26 2022Grossman is on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder went 1-for-5 on Monday and has gone 1-for-11 in three games since the All-Star break. Akil Baddoo will start in left field Tuesday.
Jul 21 2022Grossman isn't starting the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was productive during Thursday's matinee, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, a walk and a strikeout. However, Akil Baddoo will start in left field while Victor Reyes draws the start in right during the nightcap.
Jul 14 2022Grossman is out of the lineup for Thursday's game at Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will take a seat for the second consecutive game Thursday. He's struggled in July with a .472 OPS, and his grip on a starting role could be slipping. Akil Baddoo will make his third straight start in left field for Detroit.
Jul 13 2022Grossman is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a breather after he went 3-for-10 with a run scored over the first two games of the series. Akil Baddoo will start in left field and bat eighth in the series finale.
Jul 11 2022Grossman went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was Grossman's first multi-hit effort since June 26, as the veteran outfielder has struggled all year to string together hits. He's now batting .210 after hitting .239 last season. Although Grossman's average wasn't great in 2021, he did offset that to some degree with a career-best 23 home runs and 20 stolen bases along with a .772 OPS. Grossman has just two long balls, three steals and a .596 OPS in 2022. With the power and speed largely disappearing, the 32-year-old hasn't been able to make much of a fantasy impact.
Jul 9 2022Grossman isn't starting Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman is getting a breather after he hit .143 with a triple, a run, an RBI and a stolen base over the last six games. Victor Reyes will shift to left field while Willi Castro draws the start in right.
Jul 3 2022Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Grossman will start in both games of Monday's doubleheader with the Guardians, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After getting a breather in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Royals, Grossman remained out of the lineup for Sunday's 7-4 loss in the series finale. According to Woodbery, Hinch attributed Grossman's back-to-back benchings to the outfielder's poor career numbers against Royals starter Brady Singer (0-for-10, seven strikeouts). Grossman came off the bench to line out in a pinch-hitting appearance Sunday, so he doesn't appear to have fallen out of favor for an everyday role just yet.
Jul 2 2022Grossman isn't starting Saturday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman snapped a five-game hitting streak during Friday's series opener against Kansas City, and he'll get a breather a day later. Victor Reyes is shifting to left field while Willi Castro starts in right.
Jun 20 2022Grossman went 2-for-3 with two walks, a three-run home run and four total RBI in Sunday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went deep for the second straight day and he got to it right away, taking Dane Dunning deep in the first inning with two runners on. The homers are the first two of the season for the veteran outfielder, who hit a career-best 23 long balls last year. Grossman's previous career high was 11, so the 2021 total looks a little bit like an outlier.
Jun 19 2022Grossman went 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman launched a solo shot in the first, then scored on an Eric Haase homer in the fourth. The three hits in Saturday's game were Grossman's first since June 13. After playing well in late April and early May, things have not gone well for the outfielder. Although his June batting average is .240, he is slashing just .205/.304/.259 on the season.
Jun 15 2022Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After returning last week from a stint on the injured list due to a neck issue, Grossman fouled a ball off his knee in his first game back and sat out the Tigers' next contest. He rejoined the lineup Sunday and has proceeded to start three straight days while going 2-for-11 with four strikeouts. Grossman appears to have avoided any setbacks with the knee, but he'll get a breather Wednesday in a day game after a night game.
Jun 12 2022Grossman (knee) is starting in left field and batting seventh Sunday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He returned Friday from a neck injury and promptly fouled a ball off his knee, which caused him to miss Saturday's game. Grossman is hitting .156 with zero home runs and one steal over his last 10 games.
Jun 11 2022Grossman (knee) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman left Friday's game after fouling a ball off his knee, and while X-rays returned negative, he will get at least one day to rest. With Grossman out, Victor Reyes will lead off for the Tigers on Saturday.
Jun 10 2022Grossman (knee) underwent X-rays that came back negative Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman exited Friday's loss to the Blue Jays in the bottom of the eighth inning after fouling a ball off his right knee, and he's tentatively considered day-to-day after his exams didn't reveal anything too concerning. If the 32-year-old misses any additional time, Harold Castro and Kody Clemens would likely see increased at-bats.
Jun 5 2022Grossman (neck) could start a rehab assignment Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has been on the injured list for about a week, and if he begins a rehab assignment early next week, he could possibly be ready to return next weekend. Grossman hit .182 with zero home runs and one steal in his previous 10 games before landing on the IL.
May 30 2022Grossman (neck) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being removed from Sunday's contest versus the Guardians with a neck injury, Grossman will now be sidelined for at least 10 days while on the injured list. Kody Clemens was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take his spot on the active roster for the time being.
May 29 2022Manager A.J. Hinch said Grossman was removed in the bottom of the third inning of Sunday's 2-1 win over the Guardians after experiencing neck spasms, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman, who was serving as Detroit's designated hitter, popped out in his lone plate appearance of the afternoon before he was pulled in favor of pinch-hitter Jeimer Candelario in his next turn through the lineup. The Tigers are presumably viewing Grossman as day-to-day in advance of Monday's series opener with the Twins.
May 26 2022Grossman went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman had just one hit in his last 20 at-bats coming into Thursday's game, making the multi-hit effort a welcome sight for fantasy managers. The veteran outfielder is still only batting .199 for the season, so he'll need to string together more games like this to get back to a more respectable level. Grossman is at least playing regularly and often serves as the team's leadoff hitter, so he'll have opportunities to turn things around.
May 25 2022Grossman isn't starting Wednesday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a breather after he went just 1-for-20 with a double, a run, a stolen base, a walk and six strikeouts over the last five games. Willi Castro, Derek Hill and Daz Cameron will start in the outfield from left to right.
May 11 2022Grossman isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a chance to reset after going 0-for-14 with two RBI, a run, four walks and five strikeouts over the last four games. Willi Castro will take over in left field and bat sixth.
May 3 2022Grossman (hand) will start in left field and bat leadoff in Tuesday's series opener against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman exited early in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers after he was struck in the right hand by a pitch, but he escaped without any structural damage and was diagnosed with a contusion. A well-timed off day Monday looks like it provided sufficient recovery for Grossman, who checks back into the lineup without missing a game.
May 1 2022Grossman's initial X-rays on his right hand came back negative Sunday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman is dealing with a right hand contusion after being removed from Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, and the results from his preliminary X-rays are encouraging. The 32-year-old will be examined further once the Tigers return to Detroit, but he appears to have avoided a significant injury.
Apr 23 2022Grossman went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Rockies in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman set the table for an easy 13-0 Tigers win, and he's now scored five times this season across 10 games. The veteran outfielder isn't particularly flashy, but he should be able to post useful fantasy numbers if he continues to bat leadoff for an improved Detroit lineup.
Apr 21 2022Grossman went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 3-0 Detroit victory featured just seven hits per team, and Grossman was the only player on either side to record multiple hits. The veteran outfielder is off to a slow start overall, as he's still batting just .226 with a .600 OPS even after the three-hit game, but perhaps the performance will get him going at the plate.
Apr 16 2022Grossman (groin) is starting Saturday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After missing three consecutive games with a groin injury, Grossman will start in right field and lead off Saturday. In his first five appearances of the season, he hit .059 with two runs, an RBI, two walks and seven strikeouts.
Apr 15 2022Grossman (groin) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old exited Tuesday's contest with tightness in his left groin and will be held out of the starting nine for the third consecutive day. Grossman said Thursday he was feeling better and hoped to be in the lineup Friday, so he should be back on the field at some point this weekend in Kansas City.
Apr 14 2022Grossman (groin), who isn't starting Thursday against the Royals, is feeling better and hopes to return to the lineup Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has been dealing with right groin tightness since Tuesday, and he's slated to miss a second consecutive game Thursday. Manager A.J. Hinch said that the 32-year-old remains day-to-day, and it appears likely that he'll return to action sooner rather than later.
Apr 13 2022Grossman (groin) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman exited Tuesday's game against Boston due to right groin tightness, and he'll get at least one day to recover. According to Evan Woodbery of MLive.com, Grossman underwent an MRI that came back clean and revealed no strain to his right groin, but the 32-year-old could still require a stint on the injured list. Victor Reyes will start in right field and lead off in Grossman's stead Wednesday.
Apr 12 2022Tigers manager AJ Hinch said Grossman was removed in the seventh inning of Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Red Sox with right groin tightness, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI before departing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An explanation wasn't immediately provided for why Victor Reyes checked into the game for Grossman, but the skipper noted after the contest that Grossman sustained the injury when he was doubled off of first base in the bottom of the fifth. Hinch added that the Tigers fear Grossman may have strained his groin, but the 32-year-old will undergo an MRI before the injury is confirmed. Even if the original diagnosis of "groin tightness" holds up, Grossman is likely to sit out Wednesday's series finale and could require a stint on the injured list.
Mar 20 2022Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran batted leadoff in this one, which is where he often found himself in 2021. The Detroit outfield figures to get a bit more crowded in 2022 with the arrival of top prospect Riley Greene, though Grossman should be able to hold down a spot in left field with Greene likely taking over in right at some point. Grossman had 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 67 RBI and 88 runs scored last season, all of which were career bests. He could be in for another strong year if he sticks atop the order.
Oct 3 2021Grossman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has hit .294 in his last 10 games and, unless he pinch hits Sunday, finishes the season with a .239/.357/.415 slash line. Daz Cameron is starting in right field.
Oct 2 2021Grossman went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Friday's 8-1 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Chicago starter Lance Lynn mostly cruised through the Detroit lineup, but after Akil Baddoo led off the fourth inning with a single and a stolen base, Grossman doubled to record his 66th RBI of the season. That's now 18 more RBI than his previous career best, and the veteran outfielder has also easily set new career highs in stolen bases (19), home runs (23) and runs scored (87) in what's been something of a breakout season for the 32-year-old.
Sep 29 2021Grossman went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two hits and run scored are nice, but Grossman could have done more damage in the 5-2 defeat, as he led the team with five runners left on base. The veteran outfielder is still riding a modest three-game hitting streak and has been productive this season with new career highs in home runs (23) and stolen bases (18). Grossman is in the first season of a two-year contract with Detroit, so he'll look to keep things rolling for the club in 2022.
Sep 26 2021Grossman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A 1-for-3 effort Saturday has Grossman hitting .156 over his last 10 games. Harold Castro is starting in left field for Sunday's series finale.
Sep 21 2021Grossman went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The double was Grossman's 21st of the season, which puts him six behind the career-high 27 doubles he recorded back in 2018. While he'll have to finish with a flourish over the last 10 games to reach that mark, the 32-year-old outfielder has already had a nice campaign with 23 home runs and 18 stolen bases, which are both new career bests. His previous career highs in those categories were 11 and nine, respectively, so the production has been a pleasant surprise.
Sep 11 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman homered in the ninth inning with the Tigers down 7-1, giving him 23 long balls this season. By comparison, the veteran outfielder had 19 total home runs the past three years combined. He also has 17 stolen bases this season, and the new career bests in home runs and steals have given Grossman more fantasy value than many would have expected coming into 2021.
Sep 10 2021Grossman went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-4 win over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder only got on base once Friday, but he was able to be productive anyway. Grossman is now 17-for-22 in stolen base attempts this year, including 2-for-3 across nine games in September. He's slashing .242/.357/.429 with 22 home runs, 63 RBI, 79 runs scored, three triples and 20 doubles as a regular presence in the top half of Detroit's lineup.
Sep 8 2021Grossman went 4-for-5 with three singles, a solo home run and three runs scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was everywhere in Pittsburgh, playing pepper with the Pirates in the early innings before going big with a solo homer off Cody Ponce in the seventh. Over the course of Detroit's three games on the banks of the Allegheny River, Grossman went 7-for-13 with a double and a homer.
Sep 4 2021Grossman went 1-for-6 with a three-run home run in Friday's 15-5 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He got in on the rout with a seventh-inning blast off Jeff Hoffman. Grossman has stayed productive over the last month-plus, slashing .267/.359/.485 with five of his 21 homers on the season in addition to three steals, 12 RBI and 17 runs in 29 games since the beginning of August.
Aug 31 2021Grossman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman started the scoring for the Tigers in the first inning with his 20th home run of the season. That's more longballs than the veteran outfielder hit in the last three seasons combined, and he's reached double figures in home runs for just the second time in his MLB career. Grossman also has 15 stolen bases this season, making him a solid fantasy option despite his .238 batting average.
Aug 30 2021Grossman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will take a seat for the first time since Aug. 6 while the Tigers roll out a starting outfield of Akil Baddoo, Derek Hill and Victor Reyes from left to right. During that streak of 19 consecutive starts, Grossman slashed .240/.313/.387 with two home runs and three stolen bases.
Aug 24 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's third inning home run gave him 19 for the season. The veteran outfielder had previously never surpassed 11 long balls in a season, and he's actually finished in single digits in each of the last four years. The power surge, combined with a career-high 15 stolen bases, has given Grossman decent fantasy value this season despite a middling .238 batting average.
Aug 20 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 4-1 extra-inning win over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old notched his 15th steal of the season in the contest, extending his career high. Grossman also contributed the last of Detroit's three runs after walking in the 10th inning. The outfielder has gone 18-for-56 (.321) through 17 games in August. He's lifted his season slash line to .240/.361/.423 with 18 home runs, 56 RBI, 66 runs scored, three triples and 17 doubles in 512 plate appearances.
Aug 7 2021Grossman (elbow) will bat third and play left field Saturday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman left Thursday's game with a bruised elbow after being hit by a pitch. He didn't receive a plate appearance Friday, though he did get into the game as a pinch runner. He'll be involved from the start this time around and will look to build on his .932 OPS thus far in the second half.
Aug 6 2021Grossman (elbow) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman left Thursday's game after getting hit in his elbow by a pitch. The injury is evidently bad enough to cost him at least one start, though whether or not it will lead to an extended absence is not yet clear. Akil Baddoo and Victor Reyes will start in the outfield corners Friday.
Aug 5 2021Grossman was removed from Thursday's game against Boston with a left elbow contusion. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An update on the outfielder, who was hit by a pitch in the second inning, should become available following Thursday's contest, if not sooner. Akil Baddoo entered the game to play left field.
Aug 3 2021Grossman went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miguel Cabrera grabbed headlines with his 498th career home run in this one, but Grossman provided a nice offensive boost as well in the 4-2 victory. The veteran outfielder is only batting .232, but an ability to draw walks has boosted his on-base percentage to a solid .358. He's also chipped in a career-high 16 home runs and 12 stolen bases, giving him some fantasy appeal in his age-31 season.
Jul 26 2021Grossman will be on the bench Monday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will sit after starting 13 straight games, a stretch in which he posted an .812 OPS. This appears to be nothing other than a routine rest for the veteran. Akil Baddoo and Victor Reyes will be the corner outfielders in his absence.
Jul 21 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went deep for the second straight game and now has 15 long balls this season. Coming into the year, the veteran outfielder's career best was the 11 home runs he hit for the Twins in 2016. Grossman's .229 batting average won't wow fantasy managers, but the homers as well as his career-high 11 stolen bases have helped boost his value.
Jul 20 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman homered off Dane Dunning before the All-Star break, and Grossman homered off Dunning yet again in their first meeting after the mid-season pause. After a lengthy rain delay, Grossman brought the thunder in the first inning with a solo shot. While his average still sits at .229, the switch-hitter has hit safely in all but four of the 14 games he's played in July.
Jul 17 2021Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman blasted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning during Saturday's matinee, and it proved to be the difference in the 1-0 win. The 31-year-old has now gone 5-for-19 with three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base across his last six appearances.
Jul 9 2021Grossman (finger) will bat third and play left field Friday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman missed Thursday's game with a jammed finger, but the issue evidently wasn't a serious one. He recorded a hit in three straight games prior to the injury, a positive sign after he grabbed just five hits in his previous 14 games.
Jul 8 2021Grossman isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Twins due to a jammed finger, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's finger is swollen after he jammed it in Wednesday's series finale against Texas, so he'll be held out of the lineup as a result. It's not yet clear whether he could be available off the bench, but the left fielder should be considered day-to-day for now.
Jul 7 2021Grossman went 1-for-2 with three walks and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has long been known for his ability to draw a free pass, as he's had a walk rate of 12 percent or better in four of his past five seasons, and that skill was on display Wednesday. It's not the flashiest trait in fantasy circles, but if the veteran outfielder keeps getting on base at a healthy clip, he should be able to score a decent amount of runs. Grossman and Jonathan Schoop are currently tied for the team lead with 43 runs.
Jul 6 2021Grossman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's fourth inning solo shot was his 11th of the season, which ties his career high set back in 2016 with Minnesota. He needed 99 games to reach the mark that season versus just 82 games this year. Assuming he stays healthy, Grossman figures to set a new career best soon. The veteran outfielder has already set a career high with 10 stolen bases this season, as he's been quietly productive for the Tigers.
Jul 2 2021Grossman went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a stolen base in Friday's 8-2 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman enjoyed his first multi-hit effort since June 15 -- in the 13 games in between, he went just 5-for-50 with a home run, four RBI and five runs scored. The outfielder is up to 10-for-12 in stolen base attempts. He's slashed .226/.341/.385 with 10 home runs, 36 RBI and 40 runs scored across 347 plate appearances as an everyday option in the corner outfield spots.
Jun 28 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 13-5 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has been slumping lately with a .193/.273/.330 slash line in 22 June games before Monday's contest, though he does now have four home runs this month to give him 10 for the season. It's the first time he's reached double figures in long balls since he hit 11 with Minnesota back in 2016, and that figure also represents his career high, so Grossman stands a good chance of beating that mark this year.
Jun 24 2021Grossman (illness) will start in left field and bat third Thursday against the Astros, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will check back into the starting nine after a non-COVID-19-related ailment kept him on the bench for Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cardinals. He's only been out of the lineup for two games thus far in June and is slashing .211/.282/.355 with three home runs, 11 runs, 10 RBI and no stolen bases in 18 games this month.
Jun 23 2021Updating a previous report, Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals due to a non-COVID-19-related illness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's absence from the starting nine was initially believed to be for maintenance purposes with the Tigers playing a day game after a night game, but he's instead sitting as a result of flu-like symptoms. Akil Baddoo will fill in in left field Wednesday in place of Grossman, who will hope to recover in time to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's series opener versus Houston.
Jun 10 2021Grossman went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and one run scored Thursday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman homered and drove in three for the second consecutive game, and he now has multiple hits in three straight contests. His primary production Thursday came on a two-run homer in the sixth inning -- his eighth long ball of the season. Through 262 plate appearances, Grossman has maintained a .241/.355/.421 line with 31 runs scored, 31 RBI and eight stolen bases.
Jun 9 2021Grossman went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman had two doubles in Tuesday's contest and kept rolling Wednesday. The veteran outfielder now has seven home runs this season and has been a steady contributor for the Tigers, primarily serving as the team's leadoff hitter and delivering a solid .354 on-base percentage.
Jun 8 2021Grossman went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers are just 25-35, but Grossman has been a reliable veteran for the team. He has a solid .353 on-base percentage as the primary leadoff hitter and has also contributed eight stolen bases, which is just one off his career high. Grossman should continue to play nearly every day in Detroit, at least until the organization potentially decides to get younger players into the lineup more frequently.
Jun 6 2021Grossman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will get a breather for the second Sunday in a row, paving the way for Derek Hill to join Akil Baddoo and Nomar Mazara in the Detroit outfield. Baddoo will step in as the leadoff man in place of Grossman, whose .347 on-base percentage paces all Tigers with at least 110 plate appearances on the season.
May 30 2021Grossman is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This appears to be just a normal day off for the veteran outfielder, as he has not been reported to be dealing with any sort of injury. He figures to be a pinch-hit option for manager A.J. Hinch as the Tigers look to finish off the sweep of the Yankees.
May 28 2021Grossman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in the 3-2 win Friday over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Tigers down to their last out in extra innings, Robbie Grossman slammed a two-run home run off Justin Wilson to win the game. He contributed towards all three of the Tigers' runs Friday. The 31-year-old is a lone bright spot in a lackluster offensive lineup, leading the Tigers in home runs (6), RBI (24), runs (26) and steals (8). He has good plate discipline, walking 35 times which is good for fourth in all of baseball. In 220 plate appearances, he is slashing .253/.377/.427.
May 22 2021Grossman went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's ninth inning home run made the game interesting and continued a good stretch for the veteran outfielder, who is batting .333 with two home runs and nine runs scored across his last 10 appearances. Grossman should continue to lead off for the Tigers and provide respectable fantasy numbers.
May 21 2021Grossman went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has been a steady leadoff hitter for the Tigers, as he's reaching base at .383 clip. He was also caught stealing for the first time this season in eight attempts, so he's given the team an unexpected boost of speed as well. Grossman isn't the flashiest fantasy option, but he does have some appeal in deeper leagues.
May 16 2021Grossman went 2-for-4 with two walks, a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-8 extra-inning win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The switch hitter continues to thrive atop the Tigers' order. Grossman has a six-game hitting streak going and has reached base in 10 straight games, posting a .375/.480/.700 slash line over the latter stretch with seven extra-base hits (three doubles, two triples and two homers), three steals, nine runs and 11 RBI.
May 14 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Jake Rogers in the sixth inning to account for Detroit's only offense. Grossman extended his modest hitting streak to five games with the blast, his fourth homer of the year, and he's hitting .450 (9-for-20) with a double, two triples and two long balls over that stretch.
May 8 2021Grossman went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Saturday's win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has two three-hit performances over his last five games, though he's also gone hitless twice during that span. The veteran outfielder has reached base in six of his last seven games and has accomplished that feat at least twice four times during that stretch, though, so he's making an impact at the top of the lineup on a daily basis.
May 4 2021Grossman went 3-for-3 with two walks, a double and three RBI in Tuesday's 11-7 loss to the Red Sox. He also stole two bases. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman certainly did his part from atop the lineup, but the Tigers dropped another one to fall to 8-22. His aggressiveness on the bases has been a pleasant surprise, as Grossman now has six stolen bases this season, which is only three off of his career high. The veteran outfielder should continue to see regular playing time in the short term, though he's a candidate for a reduced role at some point if Detroit wants to get a better look at some younger players.
Apr 26 2021Grossman went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman doubled to kick off the third inning and later scored Detroit's first run of the day on an RBI single. He's just 4-for-26 over his last eight contests with one homer and three RBI, though it was good sign to see the 31-year-old reach base twice Monday afternoon.
Apr 23 2021Grossman went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman's fifth-inning blast off Royals starter Mike Minor accounted for all of the Tigers' runs Friday. The 31-year-old Grossman has two homers, seven RBI, six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 79 plate appearances. He's slashing .226/.380/.355 in a near-everyday role.
Apr 10 2021Grossman went 3-for-4 with a home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's loss against the Indians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was a productive presence at the top of the order for the Tigers, and he delivered the team's first run of the game when he took Aaron Civale deep in the seventh inning. The veteran outfielder entered this game batting just .125 but that average was boosted to .250 after his best game of the campaign to date. Even if the average remains a bit low, Grossman remains a threat at the top of the order due to his impressive eye at the plate -- he has nine walks in seven games thus far.
Apr 9 2021Grossman is not in Friday's lineup against Cleveland, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran switch hitter is batting .125 through six games, but with a 6:9 K:BB, his OBP sits at a sparkling .440. Akil Baddoo is starting in left field while JaCoby Jones starts in center.
Apr 6 2021Grossman went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-3, 10-inning win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After batting leadoff in the first four games of the season, Grossman bumped down to sixth with Minnesota starting the left-handed J.A. Happ. Grossman responded with his first two hits of the year, though he's reached base plenty, as he now has nine walks in just five games. The Tigers may continue to use Niko Goodrum as the leadoff hitter against southpaws like they did Tuesday, but Grossman figures to remain atop the order against righties.
Apr 2 2021Grossman went 0-for-1 with three walks and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left fielder hit leadoff to begin the season and displayed his propensity for getting on base, surging out to a .750 OBP in four plate appearances. Grossman is not known for outstanding base-stealing numbers, having never swiped more than nine bags in a season, but he was only thrown out once in nine attempts last year with Oakland. Grossman's switch-hitting, walk-drawing presence suggests that the leadoff spot in Detroit's lineup is his to lose.
Mar 10 2021Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman hit his first home run of the spring in the sixth inning. The veteran outfielder is just 3-for-17 in Grapefruit League play, but he's locked into a starting role and should be able to get going when the regular season begins. Grossman posted an .826 OPS last year with Oakland, which was his highest mark since 2016.
Feb 24 2021Grossman is a candidate to bat leadoff this season, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers lack a surefire leadoff hitter, which opens the door for Grossman. The veteran won't offer much speed, but he doesn't whiff a ton (under 20 percent strikeout rate the past four seasons) and he got on at a respectable .344 clip in 2020. Even if he doesn't lead off, Grossman should hit near the top of the Tigers' order and play almost every day.
Jan 5 2021Grossman signed a two-year, $10 million deal with the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder had arguably the strongest season of his career in his age-30 campaign for Oakland last season, hitting .241/.344/.482 with eight homers and eight steals in just 51 games. Those numbers aren't far shy of his career highs of 11 homers and nine steals and suggest at least modest cross-category value for Grossman going forward. Playing time could become a question if he struggles, with the Tigers likely to turn to younger options who have more of a future with the club, but if he's hitting well he won't need to be platooned, as he's a switch hitter with an above-average career batting line against both lefties and righties for his career.
Oct 7 2020Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the Athletics' ALDS matchup with the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will take a seat for the second game in a row while manager Bob Melvin continues to make room in the lineup for the hot-hitting Khris Davis, who has smacked home runs in the first two contests of the series. So long as Davis continues to spark an otherwise languishing Athletics offense, expect him to pick up starts at the expense of either Grossman or Stephen PIscotty.
Oct 6 2020Grossman will sit for Game 2 of the ALDS against Houston on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite being a switch hitter, Grossman didn't start a single game against a southpaw this season. That trend will continue Tuesday against Framber Valdez, with Mark Canha starting in left field and Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter.
Sep 30 2020Grossman will be on the bench for the second game of the Wild Card Series against the White Sox on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went hitless in Game 1, though that's true of most of his teammates as well, as Oakland managed just three hits in their 4-1 loss. Mark Canha slides from right field to left in his absence, with Stephen Piscotty entering the lineup in right field.
Sep 27 2020Grossman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has turned in a decent season, with the switch hitter doing nearly all of his damage against right-handed pitching. Against lefties, Grossman is just 2-for-20. He sits against Marco Gonzales in the regular-season finale and Grossman's exposure to southpaws will remain limited during the postseason.
Sep 26 2020Grossman went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in a 12-3 loss to the Mariners in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was the only A's hitter to really solve Mariners starter Justin Dunn in the nightcap. The pair of homers gave Grossman eight in 51 games, to go with eight stolen bases, 23 RBI and 23 runs scored this season.
Sep 25 2020Grossman isn't in Friday's lineup against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday, and he'll get a breather for Friday's series opener. Mark Canha will start in left field with Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter.
Sep 22 2020Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman staked Oakland to an early lead with a solo shot to left field in the first inning, but the team could muster only one run the rest of the way. The long ball was Grossman's first hit since Sept. 14 -- he had gone 0-for-15 over his past four contests.
Sep 20 2020Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman started the past five games but will head to the bench with southpaw Tyler Anderson starting for San Francisco. Mark Canha shift to left field while Khris Davis bats sixth as the designated hitter.
Sep 15 2020Grossman went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, two stolen bases and a run during a win over the Mariners in the second game of a doubleheader Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder made both of his appearances on the basepaths count, and he pushed his season OBP to an impressive .376 in the process. Grossman has been picking it back up at the plate after opening September in a 5-for-26 funk over his first seven games, as he's now hitting .313 (5-for-16) with a home run, two RBI, a walk, Monday's pair of steals and three runs over his last five contests.
Sep 14 2020Grossman isn't in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will take a seat for the second time in the last three games after going 1-for-7 with three strikeouts recently. Mark Canha will take over in left field with Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter during the matinee.
Sep 12 2020Grossman will sit for the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old went hitless in three trips to the plate in the afternoon contest. Mark Canha will start in left field in his absence, with Stephen Piscotty returning from a wrist injury to start in right.
Sep 7 2020Grossman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-0 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman got aboard with a single, stole second and scored on Tony Kemp's double in the second inning. The stolen base was Grossman's fifth of the year. The outfielder is hitting .265/.400/.529 with four homers, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored in 32 contests.
Sep 5 2020Grossman went 1-for-4 with a double in Friday's loss against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Athletics recorded just four hits in 29 at-bats against Padres pitching Friday and Grossman was the only one who mustered an extra-base hit. The 30-year-old veteran has hit safely in each of Oakland's last three games, but he has gone 10 straight games without racking up two or more knocks and is hitting only .200 during that 10-game stretch.
Aug 26 2020Grossman isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman went 0-for-7 with one run, one RBI, two walks and two strikeouts over the past two games, and he'll get a breather Wednesday. Mark Canha will start in left field.
Aug 21 2020Grossman remains on the bench against lefty Andrew Heaney and the Angels on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite being a switch hitter, Grossman is evidently viewed as exclusively an option against right-handers by the Athletics, as he's yet to start against a lefty all year. Mark Canha will be the left fielder Friday.
Aug 20 2020Grossman isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman reached base three times and drove in two runs Wednesday, but he'll take a breather Thursday. Mark Canha will start in left field with Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter.
Aug 18 2020Grossman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman continues to be one of the most productive hitters in the Athletics' lineup and saw his average rise to .300 with a 2-for-4 performance. He has now hit safely in eight of his last nine appearances, racking up all four of his home runs and seven RBI across that stretch.
Aug 17 2020Grossman went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, two walks and two runs in a win over the Giants on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder was a thorn in the side of the Giants all afternoon long while extending his on-base streak to nine games. Grossman also has four RBI over the last four contests and has demonstrated a particularly discerning eye at the plate with six walks during that same span. In fact, Grossman's career-high .452 on-base percentage is partly the result of the 30-year-old's 17.8 percent walk rate, also a new high-water mark.
Aug 14 2020Grossman is a candidate to move up to No. 2 in the order during Ramon Laureano's four-game suspension, which begins Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The hot-hitting veteran outfielder has yet to hit higher than sixth in the order thus far this season, but that hasn't stopped him from generating some impressive numbers. Grossman is slashing .311/.466/.600 with seven extra-base hits (four doubles, three home runs) and eight RBI across 58 plate appearances, production that would be welcome near the top of the order.
Aug 12 2020Grossman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, two walks, a stolen base and an additional run scored during Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Halos. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old gave Oakland a 3-1 lead during the second inning with his 421-foot blast, and he also scored on a bases-loaded walk during the eighth inning. Grossman has a .311/.466/.600 slash line with three homers, eight RBI and four stolen bases through 15 games in 2020.
Aug 11 2020Grossman went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in a loss to the Angels on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Following a pair of extra-base hits Sunday, Grossman was back it again Monday during his third start over the last four games. The veteran outfielder is 4-for-10 with a double, two solo home runs, two walks, two hit by pitches, Monday's steal and three runs in those contests, and he's raised his season slash to .282/.429/.513 in the process.
Aug 10 2020Grossman went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Astros on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman opened up the scoring on the afternoon with a 357-foot shot to right field in the second inning, his second homer of the campaign. The veteran outfielder enjoyed a productive weekend against the Astros after coming into the series in the midst of a 1-for-15 slump, going 3-for-6 with Sunday's double, two homers, two RBI, two walks, two hit by pitches and three runs.
Aug 8 2020Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Friday's extra-inning win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman ended a three-game hitless streak with a homer to center in the bottom of the seventh -- that was his first long ball of the season. Grossman is in a slump after a strong start to the campaign, however, and he has gone 2-for-18 (.111) in his last six games, although both hits have gone for extra bases.
Aug 7 2020Grossman is 1-for-15 with four strikeouts and one walk over his last five games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He got off to a hot start but is now hitting .233/.324/.300 on the season. Grossman continues to start against all righties and sit against all lefties, but he won't be assured of that setup over the rest of the season if this cold spell continues.
Jul 27 2020Grossman went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk in a win over the Angels on Sunday. He was also caught stealing on his only attempt. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder drew the start for the second straight day and continued to be an agitator to Angels pitching. Factoring in Sunday's tally, Grossman is 3-for-6 with two RBI, a walk and two steals over the last pair of contests heading into Monday's series finale.
Jul 26 2020Grossman went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and two stolen bases in a loss to the Angels on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman was a one-man wrecking crew for the Athletics on Saturday, with the only asterisk the fact his exploits came on a day when the team scored all of one run. The veteran's opposite-field single in the seventh brought home Stephen Piscotty, with Grossman logging his second steal of the day following the hit. The 30-year-old is slated to again enjoy relatively steady playing time that nevertheless falls short of an everyday role in the abbreviated 2020 campaign, and he'll look to improve on last season's .240/.334/.348 line that featured his lowest figures across the board since 2015.
Apr 16 2020Grossman hit .304 (7-for-23) with a double, a home run, five RBI, six walks and eight runs across 12 Cactus League games before spring training was suspended. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder projects for a similar platoon role to the one he filled in 2019 during the coming season. However, considering the high likelihood of a shortened 2020 campaign, it remains to seen if he'll appear in as much as 85 percent of the Athletics' regular-season contests for a second consecutive year. Grossman would have likely been set for steady playing time had Opening Day unfolded as scheduled March 26 with Stephen Piscotty still dealing with an oblique injury at the time, but Brodie Brazil of NBC Sports Bay Area reports the latter is no longer feeling pain and feels he'll be fully healthy when the season does begin.
Mar 11 2020Grossman, who went 2-for-3 with a run in a Cactus League loss to the Royals on Tuesday, is hitting .304 across 12 spring games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder will play on a one-year, $3.7 million deal in 2020 after avoiding arbitration, and he appears to be laying the foundation for offering the Athletics a good return on that salary this season. Grossman has a double, a home run, five RBI, six walks and eight runs across his 29 spring plate appearances, and he'll be looking to improve on 2019's pedestrian .240/.334/.348 line this coming season while once again providing outfield depth.
Jan 10 2020Grossman agreed to a one-year, $3.725 million deal with the A's on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Grossman's third and final year as an arbitration-eligible player. He will enter the year providing outfield depth and would likely need an injury to someone ahead of him on the depth chart to get regular playing time.
Oct 2 2019Grossman is in the starting lineup for the American League Wild Card Game against the Rays on Wednesday, batting eighth.
Oct 2 2019Grossman is in the starting lineup for the American League Wild Card Game against the Rays on Wednesday, batting eighth. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman returns to the starting nine after missing time at the end of the regular season with a sore shoulder. The 30-year-old struggled at the plate in September, recording a .149/.216/.234 slash line with six runs and four RBI in 22 games.
Sep 29 2019Grossman has been dealing with a sore shoulder in recent games, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has been out of the lineup the last two days, and with the Athletics having clinched home-field advantage for Wednesday's American League Wild Card Game with their win Saturday, he's also sitting out Sunday's regular-season finale. The veteran outfielder has endured a difficult September at the plate (.136 average), and this latest report may help at least partly explain his struggles.
Sep 23 2019Grossman, who went 1-for-4 with a double and a run in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday, is hitting just .154 (6-for-39) with three extra-base hits and four RBI in September. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder also has four walks and six runs over that span, but it's been a month of meager fantasy production for Grossman overall. The 30-year-old has also failed to leave the yard in 31 games, a dubious streak that's capped his overall upside at a critical time of season.
Sep 8 2019Grossman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman has turned in an ugly .182/.280/.598 slash line versus left-handed pitching this season, so it's not too surprising that he'll head to the bench with southpaw Daniel Norris serving as Detroit's opening pitcher. Jurickson Profar will replace Grossman in left field.
Sep 4 2019Grossman is not starting Wednesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grossman will sit with lefty Patrick Sandoval on the mound for Los Angeles. Chad Pinder starts in right field.
Sep 1 2019Grossman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
Aug 27 2019Grossman will be on the bench Tuesday against lefty Mike Montgomery and the Royals.
Aug 24 2019Grossman isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Jul 22 2018Grossman is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Royals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman has started both games since the All-Star break and five of the last six overall, but will take a seat for the afternoon series finale. Joe Mauer will take over as the DH while Logan Morrison gets the start at first base.
Jul 11 2018Grossman is not in the lineup against the Royals on Wednesday, LaVelle E. Neal of the Star Tribune reports.Grossman will remain on the bench for a second straight day as Logan Morrison gets another start after going 1-for-4 with a double during Tuesday's tilt. With left-hander Blake Snell on the mound for Tampa Bay on Thursday, look for Grossman to return to the lineup with Morrison on the pine.
Jul 5 2018Grossman is not in the lineup against the Orioles on Thursday. This marks the third straight game Grossman was left out of the starting nine. Joe Mauer will man the DH spot for Thursday's series opener while Logan Morrison gets a start at first base.
Jul 4 2018Grossman is not in the lineup against the Brewers on Wednesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman will remain on the bench for a second straight afternoon as Max Kepler, Jake Cave and Eddie Rosario man the outfield during Wednesday's matinee affair. Through 69 games this year, Grossman is hitting .237/.320/.351 with four home runs and 25 RBI.
Jul 3 2018Grossman is not in the lineup against the Brewers on Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman will take a seat for a standard day off after three straight outings with multiple hits, including a grand slam against the Brewers on Monday. In his place, Max Kepler will start in right field.
Jun 24 2018Grossman went 2-for-3 Sunday with an RBI double and a run scored in a 2-0 win over Texas.Grossman is hitting just .232 with 20 RBI in 185 at-bats this season. Whether in the outfield or DH, he's essentially been an every day player for Minnesota in 2018. Still, with a career slash line of .248/.346/.371, he's not performing much worse than usual.
Jun 19 2018Grossman went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three strikeouts in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.Grossman was forced out of Sunday's game with what was deemed to be a "heat illness," but he was back in the lineup Tuesday and came through with a two-run triple in the eighth inning to add a couple insurance runs in the 6-2 win. He's now riding a modest four-game hitting streak but is slashing just .234/.320/.333 on the year.
Jun 19 2018Grossman (illness) is hitting fifth as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Red Sox, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.Grossman was lifted from Sunday's contest due to heat illness, but he's good to go after Monday's scheduled off day. He'll face left-hander Chris Sale in this one.
Jun 17 2018Grossman was removed from Sunday's matchup against the Indians due to what the Twins are referring to as "heat illness," Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. With temperatures reaching the mid-to-upper 90s in the midwest this weekend, Grossman will be lifted for precautionary reasons. He was 2-for-3 prior to exiting, and will be replaced by Taylor Motter in right field.
Jun 3 2018Grossman will serve as the Twins' designated hitter and bat seventh Sunday against the Indians, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has checked in as the DH in 11 of the Twins' 16 games since May 18, a date that coincides with Joe Mauer suffering a neck injury that later landed him on the disabled list. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Mauer put in a full workout prior to Sunday's contest, creating some hope the 35-year-old may be able to return from the DL later this week. Once Mauer is back in the fold, he and Logan Morrison would likely share duties at first base and DH in most games, thereby squeezing Grossman out of the lineup on a recurring basis.
May 4 2018Grossman is not in the lineup Friday against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has settled into a regular role in the Twins' outfield with Byron Buxton (toe) on the disabled list, but he hasn't produced much with the extra at-bats. He's hitting just .185 on the season and is hitless in his past three starts. Grossman will head to the bench for night off, allowing Ryan LaMarre to pick up a start in center field Friday night.
Apr 28 2018Grossman went 3-for-4 with a walk and a double in Friday's loss to the Reds. He's reached base in seven of his last nine plate appearances. After a 4-for-37 start to the season at the plate, Grossman has finally heated up the past two games going 6-for-8 with a walk. Grossman should continue to see time in the lineup while Byron Buxton (toe) remains on the disabled list, either at DH, right field or left field.
Apr 27 2018Grossman went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Thursday's loss to the Yankees. The 28-year-old collected three of the team's eight hits, and he provided his first round-tripper of the year in the third inning off of Domingo German. Grossman should continue to see time in the lineup while Byron Buxton (toe) remains on the disabled list, but he doesn't seem to be entrenched in any permanent role at the moment as he's rotated between left field, right field and the DH spot over his past five appearances.
Apr 21 2018Grossman went 2-for-4 with a double in Saturday's 10-1 loss to the Rays. With Byron Buxton (migraines) on the disabled list and Logan Morrison in a deep slump to begin the year, playing time has begun to open up for Grossman despite his own struggles at the plate, and he responded Saturday with his first multi-hit performance of the season. The 28-year-old has now started four straight games, and he figures to remain a regular on Paul Molitor's lineup card for time being, particularly if he strings together some more hits.
Apr 5 2018Grossman is in Thursday's lineup at DH batting fourth in the order, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman gets his first start of the season against southpaw James Paxton. Grossman got regular duty at DH last season, but looks to become more of a reserve player after the acquisition of Logan Morrison.
Apr 3 2018Grossman struck out in his lone pinch-hit appearance during Monday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates. With the Twins facing right-handed starting pitching in their first four games, Grossman has been limited to a bench role in all of those contests. It's likely that Grossman will remain out of the lineup Wednesday against Pirates right-hander Ivan Nova, but he should draw into the lineup Thursday versus southpaw Steven Brault. One of the Twins' two lefty-hitting outfielders, Max Kepler or Eddie Rosario, would move to the bench to accommodate Grossman in that scenario.
Mar 10 2018Grossman went 1-for-3 in Friday's spring training win over Tampa Bay. He's hitting just .130 (3-for-23) this spring and faces increased competition for playing time with the Twins signing Logan Morrison.Grossman looked set to get regular playing time at DH, but now may have more of a reserve role with Morrison set to get the most time at DH. Grossman could work his way into a platoon in left field or right field, but his poor glove makes it hard to play him in the outfield. His poor spring training stats may not matter for a veteran, but they won't help his chances to carve out a regular role.
Jan 12 2018Grossman agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Twins on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports. This was his first year as an arbitration-eligible player, and Grossman received a nearly $1.5 million bump from his 2017 salary. The outfielder/DH slashed just .246/.361/.380 with nine home runs and 45 RBI in 119 games last season, and could wind up being a fourth outfielder that provides spot starts for this upcoming season. Although Grossman was able to find his way on base due to a high walk rate (14.7 percent), he isn't able to mash like a typical designated hitter and lacks the defensive capabilities to be an everyday outfielder, which obviously limits his value.
Sep 24 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Tigers, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Grossman had a great showing Saturday, as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Since returning from a thumb injury Sept. 5, he's slashed .292/.379/.563 over 16 games. He'll take a seat Sunday while Joe Mauer moves to the DH spot.
Sep 20 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.Grossman heads to the bench following an 0-for-4 day at the plate during Tuesday's defeat. In his place, Joe Mauer will occupy the DH spot while Kennys Vargas draws the assignment at first.
Sep 15 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Friday for the second day in a row.Manager Paul Molitor wanted to give Joe Mauer a lighter load Thursday and Mitch Garver a start Friday, and both were slotted in as the designated hitter at Grossman's expense. Grossman is 9-for-24 (.375) since returning from the disabled list, so it seems likely he will be back in action Saturday following his two-day break.
Sep 14 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against Toronto.Grossman will occupy a spot on the bench following a pair of starts, including an 0-for-4 day at the plate during Wednesday's victory. In his place, Joe Mauer gets a night off from the field and will handle the DH duties while Kennys Vargas mans first.
Sep 10 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman will head to the bench after starting each of the past five games after returning from the disabled list on Sept. 5. The 27-year-old has gone 6-for-14 with two homers and four RBI over that stretch, but will give way to Joe Mauer at the DH spot Sunday, while Kennys Vargas draws the start at first.
Sep 7 2017Grossman went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs scored in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Royals.Grossman broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with his ninth home run of the year. The switch-hitting outfielder has started at DH in three consecutive games since coming off the disabled list and has two home runs over that span.
Sep 5 2017Grossman (thumb) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday. As expected, Grossman is back with the Twins after successfully completing a pair of minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Rochester. Now that he's healthy, Grossman should resume his role as Minnesota's primary DH, though they could choose to ease him back into things with an expanded roster.
Sep 2 2017Grossman (thumb) will begin a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The plan is for him to join Minnesota in Tampa Bay on Tuesday. According to Berardino, the switch-hitting Grossman can only hit from the left side of the plate at this stage in his rehab, and he is unable to throw. Of course, as primarily a DH, he will not be asked to throw when he returns to the majors.
Aug 31 2017Grossman was able to take cuts from both sides of the plate Thursday, but is still feeling soreness in his left thumb, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has been on the disabled list for two weeks now after suffering a fractured thumb against Cleveland. It appears as though the Twins may choose to reinstate him before he's able to throw, which will mean all of his starts will come out of the DH spot until he's effective from the outfield. At this point, Grossman will transition to live hitting soon, and could return to the big-league club by the second weekend in September.
Aug 17 2017Grossman was diagnosed with a fractured left thumb Thursday, Mike Berardino of The Pioneer Press reports. The timing of Grossman's injury is particularly unfortunate with just a month and a half left in the season. He suffered the injury during Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians and was replaced in right field by Max Kepler. The Twins have yet to make a move to place Grossman on the disabled list, but that will likely change before they open their series against the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Aug 17 2017Grossman (thumb) was placed on the disabled list Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports. The Twins have yet to announce a corresponding move, but there are a number of viable outfielders in the system from which to choose. Manager Paul Molitor laid out a three-week timetable for Grossman, adding that throwing will be the biggest challenge he faces en route to a return. Still, a three-week timetable will allow Grossman to get back on the field for the better part of September.
Aug 17 2017Grossman was removed from Thursday's game against the Indians due to a left thumb injury, Mike Berardino of The Pioneer Press reports.Max Kepler entered the game in place of Grossman early in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader after Grossman did not come up to take his scheduled at-bat. He's reportedly dealing with a left thumb issue, but the extent has yet to be released. If Grossman's injury causes him to miss additional time, the Twins could slide Miguel Sano or Joe Mauer to the DH spot for the time being.
Aug 16 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman will give way to Eduardo Escobar at designated hitter after going 2-for-19 at the plate over his last five starts. While Grossman has been a boon for those in leagues where on-base percentage is a category thanks to his .367 mark, his statistical portfolio has been otherwise underwhelming this season, making him a low-upside fantasy option in most traditional 5x5 formats.
Aug 11 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Friday against the Tigers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman will hit the bench for the third straight game after sitting the past two in Milwaukee as the Twins played without a DH. In his place, Miguel Sano gets a day off from the field while manning the DH spot for the series opener, while Eduardo Escobar draws the start at third.
Aug 10 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman will head to the bench for a second straight game as the Twins play another DH-less game at Miller Park. He is just 4-for-22 (.182) in seven games this month, so he'll look to turn things around when the Twins head to Detroit over the weekend.
Aug 9 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. With no DH spot available at Miller Park, Grossman will head to the bench as the Twins roll out their regular outfield of Max Kepler, Byron Buxton and Eddie Rosario. Grossman has been slumping of late with a 5-for-28 showing at the plate over the Twins' last 10 games, so it wouldn't be surprising if he was held out of the lineup again Thursday in the series finale in Milwaukee.
Aug 2 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Padres.Grossman will sit out for the second straight day with no DH spot available in the National League park. It's expected that Grossman will rejoin the starting nine when the Twins return home Thursday to begin a four-game series with the Rangers.
Aug 1 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Padres, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. With no DH available in Petco Park, Grossman will head to the bench for a breather. He could ultimately slide into the outfield for Wednesday's series finale.
Jul 25 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports. With no designated hitter available in Dodger Stadium, Grossman will head to the bench for a night off. He could slot into the lineup as an outfielder for the series finale Wednesday like he did in Monday's contest.
Jul 17 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Monday against the Yankees, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.Kennys Vargas will earn another turn in the lineup after crushing a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Astros, and it will come at the expense of Grossman, who is sitting out for the first time in the second half. Grossman maintains nearly a 100-point edge over Vargas in on-base percentage this season, so he's still expected to serve as the Twins' primary designated hitter the rest of the way.
Jul 4 2017Grossman will serve as the Twins' designated hitter and leadoff man in Tuesday's game against the Angels, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. After taking off Monday for rest, Grossman will move up a spot in the order with usual No. 1 hitter Brian Dozier (back) sitting out. Dozier will be available off the bench and is expected to return to the lineup Wednesday, so Grossman's stay atop the lineup is expected to be brief. Grossman has found success in the table-setting role this season, albeit in a limited sample size. He's gone 6-for-14 with a home run, two doubles and five walks while leading off.
Jul 3 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Monday against the Angels, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Despite riding a four-game hitting streak, Grossman will head to the bench for a breather after playing 26 innings over the past two days. Kennys Vargas will serve as the designated hitter in his stead.
Jun 30 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Friday against the Royals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman is just 5-for-34 (.147) over his last 12 games, so he'll head to the bench for the second time in four games as he grabs a mental breather. Eduardo Escobar will serve as the DH in his absence.
Jun 27 2017Grossman is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The switch-hitter will take a seat for the third time in the last five games, a surprising development considering he had played in 21 straight games entering the month. Grossman is hitting just .255/.391/.396 this season, so the Twins may be searching for other power options at the plate. Miguel Sano will take over at the DH, as Eduardo Escobar starts at the hot corner.
Jun 25 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday, LaVelle E. Neal of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.Grossman takes a seat on the bench for the second time in the past three games as Miguel Sano slides into the DH spot. During Saturday's contest, Grossman went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and will likely be back in the lineup for Monday's opener against Boston.
Jun 23 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians, LaVelle E. Neal of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.Grossman takes a seat after starting the past three games going 2-for-9 at the plate in that span, with three walks and one strikeout. The 27-year-old has been a sturdy cog in the Minnesota lineup so far this season, and will likely be back in the order for Saturday's contest. In his place, Kennys Vargas is taking the DH duties against Trevor Bauer.
Jun 18 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman will be on the bench for the second game in a row after he played only the first half of Saturday's doubleheader. After seemingly wrestling away primary DH duties away from Kennys Vargas earlier this month, Grossman's hold on an everyday role may be loosening after going 0-for-12 at the plate in his previous three starts.
Jun 17 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Indians. After going 0-for-4 in Game 1 of the doubleheader, Grossman will head to the bench for a breather as Max Kepler reclaims his spot in right field and Eduardo Escobar slides in as the designated hitter.
Jun 14 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners.Grossman pounded out two of the Twins' franchise-record 28 hits in Tuesday's massacre, but it won't be enough to keep him in the lineup over Kennys Vargas, who recorded four hits in the contest. It will be Grossman's first time out of the lineup since May 28, ending a streak of 15 consecutive starts.
Jun 14 2017Grossman went 2-for-6 with two runs in Tuesday's 20-7 win over the Mariners.Grossman actually had one of the quieter performances for a Twins offense that racked up a franchise-record 28 hits, but it was nonetheless another solid showing for the 27-year-old, who has turned in multi-hit efforts in three of his last five contests. Though his main competition for reps at DH, Kennys Vargas, exploded for four hits Tuesday, Grossman has been the more consistent performer of the two and maintains a 116-point edge in on-base percentage for the season. Look for Grossman to maintain at least a semi-regular lineup spot for the Twins, though in standard 5x5 leagues, he'll likely be an average-to-below-average contributor outside of the runs and batting average categories.
Jun 3 2017Grossman went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 11-5 win over the Angels.Kennys Vargas' demotion has put Grossman back in the lineup on a regular basis and he's responded with a .348/.464/.696 slash line, two homers, five RBI and six runs in his last seven games. His ability to draw walks should keep him entrenched as the No. 2 hitter in a Twins batting order that's currently ninth in the league in wOBA (.326).
May 30 2017Grossman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, two RBI and two runs during Monday's loss to Houston. The outfielder is riding a nine-game hot stretch with three homers, seven RBI, eight runs and a 1.273 OPS through just 29 at-bats. The switch hitter has posted a .281/.396/.447 slash line dating back to last season and could be earning more playing time with his recent heater. It is a crowded outfield with Eddie Rosario, Max Kepler and Byron Broxton all receiving regular starts, but there might be a clear path to consistent at-bats as the designated hitter with Kennys Vargas' recent demotion to the minors.
May 26 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Friday against the Rays. It's the second consecutive game that Grossman has sat out, a surprise considering his .348 average and two home runs over the last week. Eddie Rosario will be in left field and Max Kepler will be in right field as the team opens the home stand.
May 24 2017Grossman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Grossman has been a fixture in the two-hole for Minnesota in recent weeks and he's been hot at the plate, collecting multiple hits in four of his last five starts with two homers during that span. He will get a breather on getaway day, but expect his strong plate skills (25:21 BB:K this season) to keep Grossman near the top of the order moving forward.
May 20 2017Grossman went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's extra-inning win over the Royals. He continues to get on base at an amazing rate. Grossman's hitting only .250 (7-for-28) over the last two weeks, but has a .417 on-base percentage over that stretch thanks to eight walks. Kennys Vargas has been getting more work lately and offered some ninth-inning heroics Friday, but given Vargas' poor .190/.186/.524 slash line during the same period, the Twins might be better off giving Grossman a larger share of the playing time at DH.
May 18 2017Grossman went 2-for-4 with two hits, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 2-0 victory over Colorado. It was a productive game for the outfielder, who has seen his at-bats dwindle in the past week with the emergence of Kennys Vargas. The 27-year-old now has a .250/.400/.364 slash line with 14 RBI on the season since being recalled on April 23. While he's getting on base at a nice clip with a 20% walk rate, he offers limited fantasy value so long as he's part of a platoon in the Minnesota outfield.
May 14 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has maintained an impressive .400 on-base percentage over 100 plate appearances this season, but that hasn't been enough for him to hold down an everyday role with Kennys Vargas thriving since being promoted from Triple-A Rochester on April 23. Vargas has only gotten on base at a .280 clip, but with five extra-base hits -- including four homers -- in 50 plate appearances, he actually owns a higher OPS than Grossman, who hasn't displayed much pop. So long as Vargas curbs his strikeouts often enough to tap into his prodigious power, it looks like he'll enjoy the favorable end of a timeshare Grossman.
May 9 2017Grossman is not in the lineup Tuesday against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports. After starting the last three games, Grossman will head to the bench as Kennys Vargas gets the nod as designated hitter Tuesday. The 27-year-old is sporting a .267/.402/.400 triple slash through 75 at-bats this season.
May 6 2017Grossman is starting in right field and batting leadoff Saturday against the Red Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports. With Brian Dozier (ankle) out of the lineup, Grossman returns to the top of the order. The switch-hitter has made only one start from the No.1 spot this season and the opportunity could afford him more opportunities to improve upon his unimpressive .265/.398/.368 stat line.
May 6 2017Grossman went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox.Grossman's second blast of the season was the only run the twins could muster in a blowout loss. The homer accounted for his first extra-base hit since April 18, but overall, his numbers are starting to move toward the totals he posted in his breakout campaign in 2016, as he's slashing .278/.402/.417.
May 3 2017Grossman is out of Wednesday's lineup against the A's.The Twins' top two designated hitters both specialize in hitting lefties, so it will be interesting to see how they are deployed against righties over the next few weeks. Kennys Vargas draws the start and will hit fifth against righty Kendall Graveman. Grossman is in a 5-for-28 (.179) funk over his last eight games.
Apr 30 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals, LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. With a 13:15 K:BB ratio over 75 plate appearances this season, Grossman has maintained an exceptional eye at the plate, but his batting average has caved a bit after a hot start to the season. He's gone just 4-for-24 (.167 average) over his last seven starts, prompting manager Paul Molitor to give him the day off Sunday in favor of Kennys Vargas, who will play DH and bat fifth in the order.
Apr 25 2017Grossman is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has started five consecutive games, during which he's gone just 3-for-16 (.188). He'll get the night off as the Twins opt to have Kennys Vargas fill the DH spot.
Apr 5 2017Grossman will serve as the Twins' DH and bat ninth in the order Wednesday against the Royals. The switch-hitting Grossman occupied the No. 2 spot in the order in the Opening Day lineup Monday against southpaw Danny Duffy, but it looks like he'll hit in the bottom half of the order when a right-hander takes the hill for the opposition. The lefty-hitting Max Kepler, who batted eighth Monday, will move up to the second spot as the Twins take on right-hander Ian Kennedy on Wednesday.
Apr 3 2017Grossman started at DH and hit second in the batting order in Monday's win over Kansas City. He went 0-for-3 with two walks.Grossman was a surprise winner of the spring training battle for the starting DH job. It looks like his on-base skills will keep him near the top of the order if he gets on base like he did Monday.
Mar 30 2017Grossman is likely to begin the season as Minnesota's starting DH with Kennys Vargas dealing with a foot injury and Byungho Park sent to the minors, LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. It's not clear if Vargas will be placed on the DL to begin the season or he could be optioned to the minors. If he can get healthy quickly, he could return as the DH since Park was sent to the minors despite hitting six home runs this spring.
Mar 29 2017Manager Paul Molitor said that Grossman (groin) came out of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox without incident and is expected to be ready to go for Opening Day, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman started in left field and struck out in both of his at-bats Wednesday, but he showed no signs of the groin strain while moving around defensively in what was his first Grapefruit League appearance in 10 days. It's expected that Grossman will share duties in left field with Eddie Rosario to begin the season, with Rosario likely picking up the bulk of the starts at the position.
Mar 29 2017Grossman is batting fifth and starting as the left fielder in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game.It appears Grossman's groin injury that has sidelined him for a couple weeks has subsided. The switch-hitter felt fine after playing in a minor league game Tuesday and will return to the lineup with Opening Day drawing closer. Grossman, set to be the Twins' fourth outfielder, is hitting .243 over 16 games this spring.
Mar 28 2017Grossman (groin) played three innings of defense and logged four at-bats in a minor league game Tuesday and reported no issues, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman has missed a little over a week due to a bout of groin tightness, but it seems like the issue is now in the rear-view mirror. As long as the ailment doesn't return, he should be ready to be the fourth outfielder for the Twins when Opening Day comes.
Mar 27 2017Grossman (groin) will take 5-6 at-bats and play a few innings in the field during a minor league game Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.Grossman took part in full baseball activity Monday and is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, albeit in a minor league game. If all goes well for the 27-year-old, he should be back in a Grapefruit League game shortly after. According the MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger, barring any setbacks, the Twins still expect Grossman to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 26 2017Grossman (groin) took a full batting practice Sunday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman has been sidelined since March 19 after straining his groin while attempting to make a catch, but it looks as if he's on the cusp of a return. He hopes to get back in the outfield for a Grapefruit League game as soon as Monday or Tuesday.
Mar 20 2017Grossman (groin) is expected to miss 5-to-7 days, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. The outfielder is battling some tightness in his right groin, but the ailment doesn't appear to be overly serious, as the team noted that it expects Grossman to be ready for the start of the regular season. Grossman will compete for regular time in the outfield and could also see at-bats as the Twins' designated hitter.
Mar 19 2017Grossman exited Sunday's game against the Red Sox with tightness in his right groin, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports. The severity of Grossman's injury is yet to be seen, and it's possible that he was simply removed for precautionary reasons. Further reports should become available in the coming days. He'll be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Feb 23 2017Grossman is the leading candidate to win a reserve outfielder role this spring, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He'll compete with Zach Granite, Daniel Palka, Drew Stubbs and J.B. Shuck.Grossman will most likely begin the season as the fourth outfiedler, but it's possible he could win the DH job or platoon in left field with Eddie Rosario. Grossman had the most productive offensive season of his big league career last year (.280/.386/.443), so it would be an upset if he didn't make the final 25-man roster. His only worry would be if the Twins decided to keep a better outfielder on he bench for his glove, as Grossman was a poor fielder by most advanced metrics.
Sep 20 2016Grossman is hitting third Tuesday and should serve as the Twins' everyday left fielder over the rest of the season.Eddie Rosario (broken thumb) is done for the year, leaving Grossman and Logan Schafer as the only healthy left fielders on the active roster. Grossman has had his most productive offensive season of his big league career this year (.280/.387/.451), and while his .364 BABIP and 13 percent HR/FB are well above his career norms, it's possible that he made tangible improvements this year. After all, he turned 27 years old on Sept. 16 and had fewer than 200 big league games under his belt heading into the season.
Sep 19 2016Grossman started in left field and went 4-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Mets. With Eddie Rosario sidelined with a thumb injury, Grossman could finish the season as the regular left fielder.
Sep 8 2016Grossman went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBI against the Royals on Wednesday. He's now cracked double-digit homers for the first time in his career. At 26, Grossman's the right age for a power breakout, but he wasn't a big slugger in the minors. He owns an impressive .389 OBP thanks to a high walk rate, but has been starting mostly against lefties when healthy, which means his best fantasy utility comes in AL-only and daily formats.
Sep 7 2016Grossman (oblique) is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Royals.Grossman has logged only one at-bat over the last eight games while battling an oblique issue. The Twins haven't provided much in terms of details, but his return to the lineup Wednesday is obviously a positive indication. Grossman, who hit .258 in the month of August, is sitting on nine home runs and 31 RBI on the year. He'll man left field and hit fifth in the order against Kansas City's Danny Duffy.
Sep 5 2016Grossman (oblique) is out of the lineup Monday against the Royals, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. The Twins still haven't offered much clarity on Grossman's timetable for a return from the oblique injury, so he's far from a safe lineup option in weekly leagues. With Byron Buxton on a tear since rejoining the Twins prior to the past weekend, Grossman's regular spot in the lineup may have disappeared by the time he's healthy again.
Sep 4 2016Grossman (oblique) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Grossman is facing an uncertain return timetable due to the sore oblique, but he may have been at risk of losing his spot in the lineup anyway with the Twins eager to give Byron Buxton another chance at full-time duties in the outfield over the season's final month. It's probably still worthwhile to hang onto Grossman in AL-only and deeper mixed formats, but just be wary that a regular starting role may not guaranteed once he's healthy again.
Sep 3 2016Grossman (oblique) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.A sore oblique has kept Grossman from the Twins' last four games, and while there should be no need for a DL move with expanded rosters, it's uncertain when he may be able to return to the field. Grossman is batting just .224 against right-handed pitching this season but he's been an asset against lefties (.347/.429/.561).
Sep 2 2016Grossman (oblique) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.A healthy Grossman, with his .990 OPS against left-handers, likely would have started Friday against White Sox starter Carlos Rodon, but it appears he is still not feeling good enough to play a full nine innings.
Sep 1 2016Grossman is out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox.With Grossman still out, Minnesota will head into Thursday's matchup with an outfield of Eddie Rosario, Byron Buxton and Max Kepler. Although this is Grossman's third straight day out of the lineup, he's still considered day-to-day heading into Friday's outing versus the White Sox.
Aug 31 2016Grossman (oblique) is available from the bench Wednesday against the Indians, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports. It appears that a stint on the DL won't be necessary for Grossman. Although he's still receiving treatment for his sore oblique, he's able to play Wednesday if need be. He should still be considered day-to-day heading into Thursday's series opener versus the White Sox.
Aug 30 2016Grossman is experiencing oblique soreness, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.Fortunately, the club hopes that Grossman will be available from the bench Tuesday night. There was no indication that he's been dealt with a serious injury, so consider him day-to-day heading into Wednesday's game against the Indians.
Aug 30 2016Grossman is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Indians, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Grossman entered Monday's game as a substitute and went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts. He'll return to the bench Tuesday night as the Twins deploy an outfield of Eddie Rosario, Logan Schafer, and Max Kepler.
Aug 29 2016Grossman is not in the lineup Monday against the Indians, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports.Grossman is riding a five-game hitting streak, going 8-for-19 in that span, but he'll head to the bench Monday for the second time in the last three games. In his place, Eddie Rosario will shift over to left field to make way for Logan Schafer -- making his team debut -- to man center.
Aug 23 2016Grossman is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.Grossman will have the night off as Danny Santana gets the nod to start in left field against Anibal Sanchez and the Tigers. Expect Grossman to return to action Wednesday when Minnesota plays the second game of their series versus Detroit.
Aug 9 2016Grossman homered, a two-run blast, in a 1-for-4 game in Tuesday's loss to the Astros. After homering six times in his first 38 games with the Twins, Grossman had gone his previous 25 games without a home run. He still had a nifty 15 walks in 100 plate appearances over that stretch, but as a corner outfielder, he needs his power to show up to be worth a spot in the lineup. He still owns a .266/.392/.436 batting line on the year and has been one of the few bright spots for Minnesota.
Aug 6 2016Grossman is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays, according to Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.Grossman still owns an .822 OPS on the season, but he tallied just three hits over his last 21 at-bats, so he will be held out Saturday for the fourth time in six games. Danny Santana will get the start in left field in Saturday's contest.
Aug 4 2016Grossman started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Thursday's loss to Cleveland. He's hitting .208/.333/.326 with no home runs since July 15.Grossman had a torrid start to his Twins career by hitting .289 with a .886 OPS and six home runs in his first 48 games. However, he's cooled at the plate lately and has been losing playing time to Eddie Rosario. Grossman is drawing walks at 17.5 percent, so his hot start may not have been a fluke. However, the Twins may not view him as a big part of their 2017 plans and he may lose playing time to younger players as a result.
Jul 26 2016Grossman is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Braves, Brandon Warne of Cold Omaha reports. The Twins will opt to start Eddie Rosario in left field instead of Grossman. Rosario, who's hitting .413/.429/.630 over the last 14 days, will be hitting seventh in Tuesday's lineup.
Jul 24 2016Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Twins manager Paul Molitor will continue to stick with the hot bat of Eddie Rosario in left field, after the 24-year-old turned in a four-hit effort Saturday. It will result in Grossman being squeezed out of the lineup for the first time in three games, but he still seems to have solidified himself as a regular option in the outfield or at DH. Grossman is holding down a .408 on-base percentage on the season, good for tops on the team among players with at least 100 plate appearances.
Jul 16 2016Grossman is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Indians.Eddie Rosario will take over in left field Saturday while Grossman gets the day off against Trevor Bauer and the Tribe. Grossman, who slashed .333/.472/.405 over his last 14 games before the All-Star break, figures to return to the lineup Sunday.
Jul 11 2016Grossman went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run in Sunday's 15-5 victory over the Rangers. After a cold spell in June that saw him hit just .234 for the month, Grossman has found new life at the plate in July. Sunday's production marked his third multi-hit effort of the new month, and he's now slashing .379/.500/.379 over 29 at-bats.
Jul 4 2016Grossman is out of the lineup Monday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Grossman in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, but he'll lose out on a start to the recently-recalled Eddie Rosario, who will be rewarded with another turn in the lineup after recording an RBI double Sunday against the Rangers. Because Rosario floundered earlier this season during his stint with the Twins, Grossman should have the upper hand over him for regular at-bats, so long as he maintains the impressive on-base skills he's shown to date.
Jul 2 2016Grossman is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rangers. The journeyman outfielder's average has dropped from .290 to .269 over the last 10 games, and he has six strikeouts in his last four games. Danny Santana will get the start in left field and hit seventh Saturday.
Jun 30 2016Grossman went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the White Sox.The 26-year-old had been mired in a 1-for-17 slump over the prior five games, so Wednesday's production was certainly a welcome sight. Grossman has crashed back to earth overall during June, following a month of May where he generated a .361/.452/.694 line over 11 games. He's now seen a 96-point drop in average since June 2, but continues to hold down the top spot on the depth chart in left field for the time being.
Jun 13 2016Grossman hit his fifth home run as part of a 2-for-4 game with three runs scored and a walk in Monday's win over the Angels.Grossman has hits in all but three of his 11 starts in June and has yet to end a day with an OPS under 1.000. Perhaps most impressively, Grossman has 14 walks this month -- a pace of 192 per 162 games. It's hard to find a flaw in Grossman's game thus far with the Twins, but he has yet to face a team in multiple series thus far in 2016 and we'll have to see what happens when pitchers get a chance to adjust to this new Grossman.
Jun 6 2016Grossman went 1-for-3 with his third home run in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.Grossman continues to stay hot since he's joined the Twins and moved into the starting lineup. He has reached base via hit or walk in 15 of his 16 games this season. While Grossman's major league track record would seem to indicate he can't sustain his success with Minnesota, he has a good eye at the plate with a 12:12 K:BB ratio. His career best walk rate (18.8 percent) could foreshadow a significant improvement.
May 29 2016Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI groundout in Sunday's win over the Mariners.Grossman started his ninth straight game and operated out of the fifth spot in the order for the third time. He has made the most of his opportunity with the Twins and has an impressive 1.105 OPS, two homers, eight RBI and six runs scored over that stretch. Grossman seems to be playing his way into a regular role for a struggling Twins team and could be worth a look for as long as he continues to produce at this rate.
May 29 2016Grossman will draw the start in left field and bat fifth in the order Sunday against the Mariners, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. It's the ninth straight start for Grossman, who seems to have at this point established himself as manager Paul Molitor's preferred option in left field over Oswaldo Arcia. While he doesn't offer the same contributions in the power department as Arcia, Grossman is fleet of foot and has shown some strong on-base skills during his stint with the club. He's recorded either a walk or a hit in all eight of his previous starts, posting a .500 on-base percentage to go with a homer, three doubles and six RBI.
May 23 2016Grossman is in the lineup and batting sixth for Monday's game against the Royals.Grossman will start for the second consecutive day in left field. The 26-year-old is 4-for-9 with a home run and three RBI since being recalled on May 18.
May 20 2016Grossman started in left field and went 3-for-4 with a home run in Friday's loss to Toronto. It was his first appearance since joining the Twins.Grossman could get more playing time as the Twins have struggled to find offense in left and center field.
May 18 2016Grossman will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He'll replace Eddie Rosario, who was sent to Triple-A after Wednesday's game. Grossman will be a fourth outfielder, but he could get significant playing time since he can play all three outfield positions and starting outfielders Miguel Sano and Oswaldo Arcia are poor fielders.
May 16 2016Grossman opted out of his contract with the Indians on Monday.Grossman was not on the verge of being called up to Cleveland, so he decided to seek an opportunity with another club. He posted an .823 OPS and tallied six home runs and 13 RBI over 34 games with Triple-A Columbus, so he could garner interest from several teams on the free agent market.
Mar 31 2016Grossman will open the season at Triple-A Columbus, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports. The young outfielder was recently informed that he would not be on the Indians' Opening Day roster, but he decided to not exercise his opt-out clause and will remain within the Tribe's organization. He'll provide organizational depth in the outfield that is sorely needed in Cleveland given the injuries to Michael Brantley and Lonnie Chisenhall. If the Indians' expected outfielders get off to a bad start this spring, Grossman could be an option for a call-up. That said, his performance at the big league level (.240/.327/.341) makes him a relatively weak fantasy option.
Mar 29 2016Grossman was informed that he will not make the Opening Day roster.Grossman had a decent spring, but there simply wasn't a spot for him in a crowded Cleveland outfield. He has the option to opt-out of his minor league contract Tuesday, so his fate with the Indians organization will become clearer once that decision is made.
Dec 11 2015Grossman signed a minor league deal with the Indians on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. The deal includes a spring training invite.Grossman had spent the last three years in the Astros organization before being released in November. The 26-year-old appeared in 24 major league contests last season, spending most of the year at Triple-A, where he hit .249 with 37 RBI and 14 steals. Grossman will attempt to make the Indians' roster out of camp, but he could start the season in Triple-A.
Nov 19 2015Grossman was released by the Astros on Thursday.Grossman made appearances with the Astros in each of the last three seasons, but the 26-year-old failed to make much of an impact with the big league club. He's now free to join another team during the offseason and it seems likely he will receive a non-guaranteed minor league contract from another club.
May 12 2015Grossman was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports. With George Springer getting reinstated from the DL on Wednesday, Grossman getting sent down means the Astros chose Preston Tucker over Grossman as the team's fourth outfielder. Grossman probably won't be significantly challenged at Triple-A and could be back up with Houston at some point this year, but he would need an injury to Springer, Jake Marisnick or Colby Rasmus to see significant at-bats.
May 11 2015Grossman, who has started four of the last five games for the Astros in the absence of George Springer (concussion), has gone 2-for-10 with a double, walk and three strikeouts during that span.In 23 appearances for the Astros this season, Grossman is hitting .152/.235/.261 with a home run and five RBI over 46 at-bats. A career .274/.383/.395 hitter in seven minor league seasons, the 25-year-old outfielder has struggled offensively at the big league level with a .241/.328/.342 slash line over 189 games. Grossman is a versatile defender, however, who is capable of playing all three outfield positions.
Apr 10 2015Grossman will start in left field and bat eighth Friday against the Rangers. With Colby Rasmus getting the day off against a tough left-hander, Grossman will get an opportunity kickstart his season after going hitless with a walk and three strikeouts over three at-bats in his first two appearances with the Astros.
Apr 9 2015Grossman will get his first start of the season Thursday against the Indians, the Houston Chronicle's Jose de Jesus Ortiz reports.Jake Marisnick will get the day off, with Colby Rasmus sliding to center field and Grossman playing left field. He is batting ninth, so given his lineup placement and the fact that he will probably only get one or two starts per week, he should be reserved for deep leagues for now.
Mar 27 2015Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Friday that Grossman (quad) is ready to play in games, MLB.com's Brian McTaggard reports.Grossman is merely dealing with a quad bruise, and he may only miss one day of action. He's still on track to open the season as Houston's fourth or fifth outfielder.
Mar 26 2015Grossman (quad) could return to spring training action Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Grossman left Wednesday's game with a quad bruise, but it's nothing serious and Houston expects him back on the field within the next couple of days.
Mar 25 2015Grossman was removed from Wednesday's spring training game with a left quad contusion, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.According to the team Grossman was removed solely for precautionary reasons, so it doesn't appear to be a serious issue. That said, he could be sidelined for the next few days to continue airing on the side of caution. Assuming he's back to full health by Opening Day, Grossman figures to serve as the team's fourth or fifth outfielder.
Mar 6 2015Grossman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI Thursday in the Astros' 6-3 Grapefruit League win over the Phillies.Grossman led off for the Astros and made the most of his start in left field with two hits, including a solo shot off Phillippe Aumont. One nice game will not be enough to win Houston's fourth outfielder job, however, as he'll need to outperform Jake Marisnick, Alex Presley and L.J. Hoes throughout camp to earn the role.
Mar 5 2015Grossman will lead off and start in left field for the Astros' Grapefruit League opener Thursday against Philadelphia, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.Grossman struggled at the big league level in 2014, hitting .233/.337/.333 in 360 at-bats for the Astros. After the down campaign, the 25-year-old will compete with Jake Marisnick, Alex Presley and L.J. Hoes for Houston's fourth outfielder duties this spring.
Sep 17 2014Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.Grossman had a rough end to his seven-game hit streak Tuesday night, striking out in four of his five plate appearances. While that dismal showing will earn him a spot on the bench Wednesday, he still looks to be in command of both leadoff duties and the starting left field job for the Astros over the remaining week and a half of the season.
Sep 7 2014Grossman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.Grossman will take a day off following six straight starts. Alex Presley will start in left field and bat ninth for the Astros.

Aug 1 2014Grossman went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.Grossman reached base at a .423 clip in July and has been one of the few bright spots of the Astros offense with Dexter Fowler (back) and George Springer (knee) nursing injuries on the DL.
Jul 31 2014Grossman hit a two-run homer and walked twice in Wednesday's win over the A's.Grossman was set to receive the day off Wednesday, but he was called upon to start when Chris Carter (illness) became a late scratch to the lineup. Jul 30 2014Updating a previous report, Grossman will be in Wednesday's lineup.Grossman was set to receive the day off, but Chris Carter came down with an illness and ended up being scratched from the lineup. Jun 25 2014Grossman was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Grossman, who hit .158 in 133 at-bats for the Astros this season, was mired in an 0-for-24 skid with 12 strikeouts over his last eight starts. Grossman is 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts in the majors this season, but he was only 4-for-11 in that department in 34 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. With a mere 55 percent success rate on the basepaths since 2013, Grossman isn't the most reliable fantasy option for steals, but he should still provide value in deeper leagues as long as he's playing regularly.
May 26 2014Grossman will start in left field and bat seventh in the order Monday against the Royals.Following Grossman's call-up Sunday night, the Astros wasted no time getting the outfielder in the lineup. He figures to see relatively consistent time in left field with L.J. Hoes' demotion, and could be a short-term speed option in deeper formats.
May 25 2014The Astros called up Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Grossman, who broke camp with Houston but was optioned to the minors after just 14 games with the big league club due to offensive struggles, is expected to play regularly in left field after L.J. Hoes was optioned to Triple-A. In 34 games with Oklahoma City, Grossman got on base at a much better clip, slashing .299/.373/.453 to go along with three home runs and four steals.
Apr 13 2014Grossman impressed at the plate Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.The outfielder now has two bombs and five steaks in three games since being demoted to the Astros' eight-hole, so maybe he's finally coming around after opening the season in a horrid 2-for-32 slump. He actually raised his batting average 41 points to .122 in this one, so that's a good sign.
Apr 10 2014Grossman hit a two-run homer and drew a pair of walks in Thursday's 6-4 win at Toronto.Grossman has opened the season in a major funk, so he was recently dropped to the eighth spot in the lineup to take some pressure off. Whether Thursday's game will get him going at the plate remains to be seen, but at least he's showing signs of life.
Apr 10 2014Grossman was dropped to the No. 8 spot in the Astros' batting order for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.Astros' manager Bo Porter's intention was to take some pressure off Grossman by slotting him lower in the batting order. Unfortunately, Grossman didn't respond well, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Houston's 7-3 loss on the night. The 24-year-old outfielder is hitless over his last 24 at-bats.
Apr 9 2014Grossman extended his hitless streak to 21 at-bats Tuesday against the Blue Jays.Astros' manager Bo Porter said before Tuesday's game that Grossman has "missed some pitches that he arguably knows he should've hit and he's taken some pitches that are very hittable." Grossman did get on base twice during the game via walk and stole a base, but it sounds like his approach at the plate could be the cause of his hitting woes.
Apr 8 2014Grossman had a rough series against the Angels, going 0-for-16 with a walk and seven strikeouts.Grossman is hitting .077 through seven games and appears like he could use a day off to clear his head. He may have to wait a bit longer for that, however, as he's been playing center field with Dexter Fowler out of the lineup due to a stomach virus. Grossman played his way into the No. 2 spot in the Astros' batting order after hitting well in camp, but manager Bo Porter may be forced to look at other options if Grossman's struggles continue.
Mar 26 2014Astros' manager Bo Porter said Grossman has played his way into the No. 2 spot in the batting order behind Dexter Fowler, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Grossman, a switch hitter, has been hot at the plate this spring, going 17-for-45 (.378) with three doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBI. As the expected starter in left field for Houston, Grossman could provide sneaky value with even more at-bats, at least during the first few months of the season.
Feb 18 2014Grossman is the expected starter in left field for the Astros, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.Grossman played well over 63 games for Houston last year, and while he's not a huge favorite to hold onto a full-time role all season, he should at least contribute solid all-around stats when he's healthy and in the lineup.
Sep 24 2013Grossman (oblique) remains unable to swing pain-free, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Grossman tested out his injury with some swinging off a tee over the weekend, but it seems he was still bothered by the oblique. Chances are, Grossman will remain limited to pinch running over the final five games of the year.
Sep 24 2013Grossman (oblique) will not play again this season, MLB.com reports.Astros GM Jeff Luhnow passed along the news Tuesday afternoon, saying that he feels "it's not wise to rush [Grossman] back and play him in a couple games." The 24-year-old Grossman attempted to hit off a tee over the weekend, but his oblique pain has persisted and he'll now begin looking ahead toward next season. He has a good chance of locking up an everyday job in spring training.
Sep 21 2013Grossman (oblique) hit off a tee Friday, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.Even though he appears to be making progress, Grossman is still facing an uphill battle to return this season with just over a week of games left. Prior to suffering the injury, Grossman had been one of the team's top hitters, batting .322 with four homers and four steals after his July 27 call-up.
Sep 15 2013Grossman (oblique) is now available as a pinch runner, CSN Houston's Richard Dean reports. While this is obviously a sign of progress, Grossman won't have any real fantasy value so long as he's only available to run the bases. A full return before the end of the season can't be guaranteed, though it doesn't seem that far fetched.
Sep 11 2013Grossman (oblique) remains out of the lineup Wednesday. The team hasn't provided much in terms of new information regarding Grossman's injury, and he remains without a set timetable for return. With each passing day, Grossman's chances of making it back this season look slimmer.
Sep 7 2013Grossman faces an uncertain timetable in his recovery from an oblique injury, MLB.com's Jeff Kirshman reports.Grossman hasn't picked up a bat since sustaining the injury while swinging during Tuesday's game against the Twins, so it would seem that at the very least, he would miss the remainder of the weekend series with the Athletics. Manager Bo Porter said Grossman would be monitored each day before the club determines whether or not he'll need to be shut down for the season.
Sep 5 2013Grossman (oblique) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Athletics. The Astros still haven't provided a definitive update on the extent of Grossman's oblique injury, but he'll be sitting out his second game in a row. Grossman had started to establish a rhythm at the plate over the last few weeks and should have a starting role waiting for him once he's considered fully healthy.
Sep 4 2013Grossman is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins after he suffered a strained right oblique during an at-bat in Tuesday night's game. While the extent of Grossman's injury is currently unclear, the 23-year-old deserved a break anyway after drawing a start in 34 straight games for the Astros. He's likely to be re-evaluated in the coming days.
Aug 28 2013Grossman went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and saw his 14-game hit streak come to an end against the White Sox on Wednesday.Grossman has been a waiver wire dream here in August, batting .318 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 15 runs scored and three stolen bases while taking everyday at-bats in the Astros lineup. The strikeout rate has been a little high (25.4 percent) this month and he's definitely been helped out by a favorable .427 BABIP, but he's also still being selective at the plate and doesn't fish outside the zone very often. He should make the necessary adjustments around the pitches he's suddenly swinging through and remain productive, but you might see him hit closer to .270 in September rather than .320.
Aug 27 2013Grossman went 1-for-5 Monday night against the White Sox to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.Grossman has recorded six multi-hit games during the streak and continues to be a productive table setter atop the Houston lineup. He's slashing .270/.340/.378 with four home runs, 21 RBI and six stolen bases over 55 games this season.
Jul 26 2013The Astros will recall Grossman prior to Saturday's game, Julia Morales of CSN Houston reports. The club placed J.D. Martinez on the disabled list after Friday's game, so the outfield was in need of help. Grossman struggled in his previous stint with the Astros, and he only hit .254/.364/.354 since being sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma City at the end of May.
May 27 2013Grossman was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.A corresponding roster move was not immediately announced, as the team plans to wait until Tuesday to do so. The 23-year-old Grossman hit just .198/.310/.243 with five extra-base hits and three RBI over 111 at-bats with the Astros this season, and it seems the club decided it was time to send him down to work on his swing. Brandon Barnes seems like a logical choice for time in center for Houston, but Trevor Crowe has started each of the team's last two games and may see some time there as well.
May 26 2013Grossman is out of the Astros' lineup Sunday against the Athletics.Grossman's absence will allow Trever Crowe to cover center field and bat leadoff. Currently, Grossman holds a five-game hitting streak, hitting 5-for-21 with one run and a 2:5 BB:K ratio during that span.
May 12 2013Grossman is going to continue to be given the chance to be the Astros' starting center fielder despite his .194 average, MLB.com reports.Manager Bo Porter loves Grossman's defense and approach at the plate even if it hasn't yet resulted in productive numbers. He's seen action in every game since getting called up on April 24.
May 1 2013One of the Astros' main goals this year is to determine whether Grossman will be part of their long-term plans, the New York Times reports.Grossman was the main piece the Astros acquired when they traded Wandy Rodriguez to the Pirates last July. The former sixth-round pick is one of several young players once highly regarded who are receiving an extended look.
Apr 24 2013Grossman will be called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The Astros' starting center fielder, Justin Maxwell, was struck by a pitch Tuesday, and it was later revealed that he sustained a broken left hand, landing him on the 15-day DL. There is not yet a timetable for his return at this early stage, but Grossman will supply outfield depth in the meantime. Considering J.D. Martinez is also out of the outfield mix due to a sprained right knee, a decent opportunity could be in store for Grossman. In 68 at-bats with Oklahoma City in 2013, Grossman is slashing .324/.452/.353 with five RBI, 13 runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Apr 24 2013Grossman went 2-for-5 with a run scored while starting in center field and leading off for the Astros on Wednesday.Given the absence of Justin Maxwell due to a broken hand and the Astros' revolving door for playing time in the outfield, Grossman is a particularly intriguing option in deeper formats given that he switch hits and has shown good plate discipline in the minors. There's a combination of moderate power and speed here as well, but most of Grossman's value will come from his placement in the batting order and sheer volume of playing time that manager Bo Porter elects to give him.
Mar 17 2013Grossman was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.Acquired from Pittsburgh in last season's Wandy Rodriguez trade, Grossman is coming off a .266/.376/.410 line at Double-A last season. As a player with nice speed and plate discipline, he could become a top-of-the-order option at some point late in the season if his development remains on track.
