Jun 30 2025Corbin allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin picked up his second quality start of June and his fourth such outing all season. The southpaw gave up all three runs on a double by Gary Sanchez in the third inning. Corbin surrendered 17 runs over 29 innings in June, losing three of his five starts in the process, so it's been a tough go of things for him lately. Overall, he's at a 4.26 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 65:24 K:BB through 82.1 innings across 15 starts. He's projected for a road start in San Diego this weekend.
Jun 23 2025Corbin (4-7) allowed five runs on nine hits over five-plus innings Monday, striking out six and taking a loss against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin gave up one run through four innings before Jackson Holliday ripped a three-run shot in the fifth. Corbin then loaded the bases without recording an out in the sixth inning but Baltimore only scratched across one run after he was removed. He produced a surprising 3.13 ERA through his first six starts this year but has since registered a 5.04 ERA over his last 44.2 frames (eight appearances). Corbin now owns a 4.24 ERA and a 59:23 K:BB for the season. It's unclear when his next start will be, as Jacob Latz will make a spot-start Tuesday and Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) is expected to return from the injured list later this week.
Jun 18 2025Corbin (4-6) took the loss against the Royals on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin allowed all four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Maikel Garcia. While the veteran southpaw has just three quality starts this season, Wednesday marked the first time in 13 outings that he surrendered more than three earned runs. He'll carry a 3.91 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 53:23 K:BB across 71.1 innings into a road matchup with the Orioles next week.
Jun 12 2025Corbin (4-5) earned the win Thursday over the Twins, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After taking a loss despite throwing a complete game in his last outing, Corbin had much better luck Thursday -- the Rangers jumped out to a 6-1 lead thanks to a five-run second inning, ultimately cruising to a 16-3 victory. The 35-year-old Corbin has yet to allow more than three runs in a start in what's been an impressive bounce-back campaign. His ERA sits at 3.66 with a 1.22 WHIP and 49:21 K:BB across 12 starts (66.1 innings). Corbin is currently slated to face the Royals at home in his next outing.
Jun 7 2025Corbin (3-5) took the loss Friday, giving up two runs on five hits over eight innings as the Rangers fell 2-0 to the Nationals. He struck out two without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran lefty was locked in against the team with which he won a World Series ring back in 2019, but Corbin got no run support. He tossed a complete game on 89 pitches (60 strikes). After posting an ERA north of 5.00 in four straight campaigns before leaving Washington, Corbin's having an impressive comeback in Texas, delivering a 3.52 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB over 61.1 innings. He'll look for his first win since May 14 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Minnesota.
May 31 2025Corbin (3-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Cardinals. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin delivered a serviceable outing Saturday, but a lack of run support resulted in his fourth loss of the season. Despite the loss, the left-hander is having a nice bounceback campaign after posting a 5.62 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 174.2 regular-season innings with the Nationals in 2024. Through 10 starts in 2025, the 35-year-old owns a 3.71 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 53.1 innings.
May 25 2025Corbin did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-4 win over the White Sox, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin yielded two solo home runs and was in line for the loss until the Rangers mounted a ninth-inning comeback. The veteran southpaw has quietly delivered a steady campaign, allowing three earned runs or fewer in each of his nine outings this season. He owns a 3.75 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 48 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Cardinals next weekend.
May 20 2025Corbin (3-3) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite limiting the Yankees to three runs Tuesday, Corbin still came away with the loss as the Rangers were kept off the board until the ninth. Corbin hasn't yielded more than three earned runs in any of his eight starts this season and has a 3.59 ERA over 42.2 innings in total, which is in stark contrast to the 5.71 ERA he posted across the four prior years. He's in line to face the White Sox on the road this weekend.
May 14 2025Corbin (3-2) earned the win Wednesday against the Rockies after allowing three runs on four hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin established a new season high with nine punchouts, which also represented his most Ks in a start since 2023. Wednesday marked his second straight quality start, and the veteran left-hander also produced a strong 15 swinging strikes, notably fanning six in a row at one point. Corbin will take a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 29:13 K:BB over 37.2 frames into a tough matchup on the road against the Yankees, who boast an .878 OPS versus left-handed pitching through their first 42 games.
May 9 2025Corbin (2-2) was tagged with the loss against the Tigers on Friday, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three across seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was another strong outing for the veteran southpaw, though he took the loss for the second time in his last three starts after being outdueled by Detroit ace Tarik Skubal. Although he generated only four whiffs and issued four walks, Corbin was able to complete seven innings for the first time in 2025 while tossing 93 pitches (50 strikes) and inducing 12 fly balls. It was his first quality start of the season, and the 35-year-old has a 3.13 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB across 31.2 innings. Corbin is lined up to face the Rockies at home next week.
May 3 2025Corbin allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin served up a leadoff homer to J.P. Crawford in the first inning, but the Mariners were unable to score on him after that. The veteran lefty fell one out shy of his first quality start of the season, though he did extend his streak of giving up two or fewer runs to four outings. Corbin hasn't completed six frames in a start yet, but he's enjoying a bit of a career revival in Texas so far, posting a 3.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB over 24.2 innings spanning five starts.
Apr 16 2025Corbin (1-0) earned the victory against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin held the Angels scoreless until the sixth frame, when Los Angeles managed to push across one run on three hits against him. The lefty was lifted with the tying runs on base, but Texas' bullpen came to the rescue and didn't allow any more Angels to score for the remainder of the game. Fantasy managers who have avoided Corbin in recent seasons may have trouble remembering that he made two All-Star teams and finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting earlier in his career. At 35 years of age, Corbin likely isn't primed for a late-career rejuvenation, so there's probably no need to rush to the waiver wire unless the veteran hurler puts together a string of similarly effective starts.
Apr 8 2025Corbin didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with no strikeouts in four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin had a rough second inning in his Rangers debut, giving up a leadoff homer to Dansby Swanson and a two-run single to Seiya Suzuki. The veteran left-hander tossed three scoreless innings otherwise, and he was able to throw 74 pitches before his night came to an end. Corbin could have some deep-league streaming appeal at home against the Angels in his next scheduled start, which lines up for early next week.
Apr 4 2025The Rangers recalled Corbin from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The original plan was for Corbin to join the Rangers around April 11, but Jack Leiter's move to the injured list Friday with a blister issue has forced the team to work a bit ahead of schedule. Assuming he slides right into Leiter's place in the rotation, Corbin will make his season debut Tuesday against the Cubs.
Mar 25 2025The Rangers optioned Corbin to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin's tenure meant he had to agree to being sent down, which he did so that he could continue to build up stamina after signing with the Rangers last week. He is slated to make two starts in the minors, with the goal of joining the Rangers' rotation April 11 against the Mariners.
Mar 18 2025Corbin will not join the Rangers in Arizona for the final few days of camp as he awaits the imminent birth of his child, but he will meet the team in Texas, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Corbin inked a one-year deal with Texas on Tuesday, but his first game action with the new club will have to wait. The Rangers wrap up their Cactus League schedule March 22 before heading home to Arlington to play two exhibition games against the Royals on March 24 and 25.

Jul 24 2018Corbin (7-4) covered seven innings and gave up one run on six hits and no walks while striking out nine in the Diamondbacks' 7-1 win over the Cubs. After posting a season-low three strikeouts in his final turn before the All-Star break, Corbin bounced back in a big way while taking the hill on seven days' rest. He threw 70 of his 98 pitches for strikes and inducing 18 whiffs on the night, aiding him to his first win in eight starts. The lefty's downturn in velocity earlier in May created concern that his early-season excellence wouldn't be sustainable, but Corbin hasn't seen his performance take a major step backward over the past three months. Over his last 15 outings, Corbin has posted a 3.53 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10.4 K/9.
Jul 15 2018Corbin (6-4) allowed four runs on six hits and one walk across six innings to take the loss Sunday against the Braves. He struck out three. All the major damage to Corbin's ledger came in the third inning, when he allowed four runs on five hits as the home team took control. He pitched well otherwise, inducing 10 groundball outs and recording three 1-2-3 innings, but the one poor frame was enough to sink him to a loss. Nevertheless, Corbin heads into the All-Star break with a shiny 3.24 ERA to go along with a 1.05 WHIP and a stellar 11.0 K/9.
Jul 10 2018Corbin didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Rockies, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six over 4.1 innings.Corbin struggled with command in this one, and while it didn't hurt him much on the scoreboard, the lefty couldn't get through the fifth inning after throwing a season-high 108 pitches. It's the first time all season the 28-year-old hasn't worked into the sixth and the four walks matched a season high. Even still, Corbin boasts an elite 11.3 K/9 and an impressive 3.09 ERA, so Tuesday's outing isn't cause for much concern. He lines up for his final start before the All-Star break Sunday against the Braves.
Jul 5 2018Corbin held the Cardinals to one run on six hits and two walks with six hits through six innings but was left with a no-decision Wednesday.Corbin was on point, as he induced 13 swinging strikes in nine groundball outs in his third straight quality start. In that span, Corbin has thrown 20 innings with 23 strikeouts against just three walks with two runs allowed. His slider was particularly on point Wednesday, as it induced 10 swinging strikes on just 37 offerings. He'll take a 3.05 ERA into his next outing Tuesday against the Rockies.
Jun 29 2018Corbin didn't factor into the decision against the Giants on Friday, despite a strong outing that saw him yield just one earned run on four hits over six innings, while striking out five and walking one in a 2-1 defeat for the Diamondbacks.Corbin certainly pitched well enough in this contest to get his seventh win of the season, but he would have to settle for the no-decision as his teammates couldn't generate much run support for him against Andrew Suarez. Still, it's been an encouraging bounce-back for Corbin, who has rebounded over his last two starts coming off a stretch where he had given up at least five earned runs in three of his last four outings. He's now given up just one earned run and posted a 17:1 K:BB over his last 13 innings, bringing his ERA down to 3.14 and his WHIP to 0.99 through 106 innings on the season. Both of those would represent career bests by a wide margin for the left-hander if he's able to maintain the pace.
Jun 22 2018Corbin threw seven scoreless innings, struck out 12 and allowed just three hits Friday but wasn't involved in the decision during the Diamondbacks' extra-innings win over the Pirates. This was a much-needed rebound after back-to-back outings of five runs allowed. Corbin's gem, however, failed to lock him into a win as Ivan Nova matched his scoreless effort through eight. There've been concerns about his velocity of late, and his recent slump might've added more fuel to that issue. Still, on the whole, Corbin has shined, and this cleans up his ERA to 3.24, and he's dazzled with 11.3 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 93 innings. He'll hold similar upside to this affair in his next scheduled outing, which'll come Wednesday at the Marlins.
Jun 16 2018Corbin (6-3) allowed five earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings to take the loss Saturday against the Mets.Corbin allowed a three-run home run to Michael Conforto in the second inning, the big blow of his start. His velocity remained down -- continuing the trend of his last several starts -- with his maximum four-seam fastball velocity checking in at 92 mph with the average falling in at 90.4 mph. While he was initially able to maintain his results with diminished velocity, batters seem to have caught up to him as he has now allowed 17 earned runs in 23.2 innings across his last four starts.
Jun 11 2018Corbin allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Monday against Pittsburgh. One of Corbin's walks was intentional, but he was inconsistent all night long. His misses in the zone were worse than his misses out of the zone, as three of the six hits he allowed were doubles, including a two-run double by Austin Meadows as part of the four-run fifth inning that ruined Corbin's night. Corbin still owns a 3.10 ERA with a brilliant 110:25 K:BB, and he'll get a good chance to right the ship his next time out Saturday against the Mets.
Jun 6 2018Corbin (6-2) struck out seven and walked two in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits in 6.1 innings.Corbin got back in the win column Tuesday, outdueling Madison Bumgarner for his seventh quality start on the year. Corbin now carries an excellent 2.87 ERA and 0.94 WHIP while holding opponents to a .188 batting average. His 105 strikeouts trail only Max Scherzer, Gerrit Cole, and Chris Sale across baseball, as he has a soaring 11.6 K/9 on the season. His next start will be a matchup with the Pirates at home.
May 30 2018Corbin (5-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out 10 over six innings against the Reds. After being staked out to an early 4-0 lead, Corbin was done in by the long ball. He yielded a game-tying grand slam in the fourth inning before surrendering a two-run shot in the sixth. Even with the rare bad outing, Corbin was able to pad his strikeout numbers and is now posting an 11.7 K/9 that ranks behind only Max Scherzer, Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale among qualified starters. He'll look to rebound Tuesday against the Giants.
May 26 2018Corbin (5-1) allowed one run on four hits in a win Friday over Oakland, striking out seven and walking one in seven innings.Corbin's lone run allowed came from a home run by Mark Canha in the third. He was otherwise very effective, throwing 63 of 99 pitches for strikes while allowing just two extra-base hits. Corbin is now holding opponents to a meek .176 batting average and has an 88:19 K:BB in 69.1 innings. His next start is a favorable matchup against the Reds at home.
May 19 2018Corbin allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six across 5.1 innings Saturday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.Corbin only allowed runs both of which came on a two-run home run by Michael Conforto in the second inning. However, he struggled to find the strike zone -- only 58 of his 98 pitches went for strikes -- and generated only 10 swinging strikes. To make matters worse, his velocity remained down for the third consecutive start. He has pitched 16.1 innings in that span and has walked nine batters while surrendered seven earned runs. Something is clearly off for Corbin, but it remains to be seen whether it is a correctable mechanical issue or a lingering injury.
May 15 2018Corbin (4-1) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk despite eight strikeouts Monday night in a loss to the Brewers.Corbin was sharp through six innings, but he allowed a pair of singles to open the seventh and the typically solid Arizona bullpen couldn't clean up his mess, ruining an otherwise quality start. Though he couldn't finish strong through the seventh, it was encouraging to see Corbin's velocity stay high throughout the game. After seeing his velocity drop into the high 80s his last time out, Corbin was able to sustain his typical low-90s velocity into the later innings of this start and break the 92 mph barrier he had been struggling to reach of late. Corbin will look to get back to his winning ways Sunday against the Mets.
May 11 2018Corbin's average fastball velocity has sat between 89-to-90 miles per hour over his last two outings and dropped to 87-to-88 mph range during the final inning of his start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports. With a 1.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 11 frames over the past two starts, Corbin's results haven't indicated any obvious decline, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo admitted that the lefty's command hasn't been as sharp of late. That's been especially apparent when Corbin throws his best pitch (the slider), as he's generated swing and misses on the offering 16 percent of the time in May after drawing whiffs at a nearly 33 percent clip over his first six starts. In addition to his slider finding the dirt more than usual, Corbin's fastball velocity readings bring additional cause for concern. Though Corbin has never thrown major heat, the fact that he hasn't thrown a pitch over 92 mph his past two times out after averaging nearly 93 mph prior to that has given him less margin for error when he works in the zone. While the 28-year-old insists he's healthy and expects his velocity and command to rebound, fantasy owners may nonetheless want to consider shopping him to guard against the bottom falling out completely.
May 10 2018Corbin allowed one run on three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts through five innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Dodgers.Corbin held opponents under two runs scored for the fourth time in eight starts, and he still hasn't allowed more than three runs all season long. That said, Corbin was wild Wednesday, as he needed 96 pitches to get through five innings, and just 50 of those were strikes. He threw just eight of his 27 sliders for strikes, five of which were swinging -- only three were actually in the strike zone, per Brooks Baseball. Wednesday's start from Corbin was essentially the definition of effectively wild. Still, it was effective, and Corbin will carry a 2.12 ERA into Monday's start against the Brewers.
May 3 2018Corbin allowed one earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out five across six innings Thursday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.Corbin left the game in line for the win after another solid six-inning outing, but the Diamondbacks' bullpen failed to maintain the lead. He didn't have his strikeout pitch working as has been the case in his previous starts, recording a season-low 10 swinging strikes. However, through seven starts has has posted 11.74 K/9 and a 50 percent groundball rate to back up his 2.15 ERA. He has been a breakout performer at the position in the early going and his strong peripheral stats indicate his results have been earned.
Apr 30 2018Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Corbin is "feeling fine" after he took a groundball off the ring finger on his left (throwing) hand during the sixth inning of his outing Saturday against the Nationals, Matt Kelly of MLB.com reports.Corbin said his hand went numb for a moment after the play, but after consulting with team trainers and tossing a few warmup pitches, the lefty was allowed to remain in the game. He ended up taking a no-decision in the contest, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6.2 innings. Unless the finger provides some unexpected complications over the next few days, Corbin will make his next start in Thursday's series finale against the Dodgers, opposing Alex Wood in that game.
Apr 28 2018Corbin allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk across 6.2 innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Saturday. He struck out seven.Corbin continued his impressive start to the season Saturday, turning in his fourth quality start in what was his sixth effort. He was tagged for seven hits, but the 28-year-old was able to limit the damage to a pair of homers -- a two run shot from Ryan Zimmerman in the third inning and a solo shot from Howie Kendrick in the sixth. His seven strikeouts were actually a season low, as the southpaw is fanning opponents at an impressive 12.4 K/9 clip through 40 innings. Corbin will carry a shiny 2.25 ERA and 0.75 WHIP into his next start, which is set for Thursday against the Dodgers.
Apr 22 2018Corbin (4-0) allowed two runs on two hits and one walk and struck out 11 as he picked up the win Sunday against the Padres.Corbin has been magnificent through five starts this season, sporting a 1.89 ERA and 0.66 WHIP. He's also been a strikeout machine, racking up 48 punch outs across 33.1 innings. The 28-year-old left-hander will face another tough test in his next start, which figures to come Saturday against the Nationals.
Apr 17 2018Corbin (3-0) was absolutely brilliant against the Giants on Tuesday, throwing a complete game one-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one in Arizona's 1-0 victory over San Francisco. It truly was a performance for the ages for the 28-year-old left-hander, who narrowly missed out on a no-hitter after an infield single by Brandon Belt broke up his bid for history in the eighth inning. It was the continuation of what has been a ballistic start to the season for Corbin, who now has a 1.65 ERA, a 0.70 WHIP and a 37:5 K:BB in 27.1 innings. Injuries have prevented Corbin from ever consistently reaching his lofty potential, but so far in 2018, he has the look of a pitcher who is fully healthy and primed to make the most of his talent. He'll look to continue his torrid start in an inviting matchup against the Padres on Sunday.
Apr 11 2018Corbin got a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out nine and walking two over 5.1 innings as Arizona fell to the Giants 5-4 on Tuesday.Corbin is off to a fantastic start, with his outing against the Giants leaving him with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP through 18.1 innings. Believe it or not, he also leads the league with 29 strikeouts against just four walks. He's absolutely rolling right now and while it's possible (perhaps even likely) that he'll regress back towards his career ERA of 4.07 eventually, he's providing the type of value at the moment that needs to be capitalized on for as long as he's providing it.
Apr 4 2018Corbin (2-0) tossed 7.1 shutout innings and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 12 to earn the victory Wednesday over the Dodgers.Corbin was utterly brilliant against one of the National League's best offenses. Dodgers hitters whiffed at 21 of Corbin's 98 pitches and didn't put a runner on base until Matt Kemp's double in the fifth inning. Corbin was hyped as a potential ace before injuries derailed his career five years ago. It's only been two starts, but thus far in 2018, he's finally looking like that guy again.
Mar 29 2018Corbin (1-0) gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight over 5.2 innings in a win over the Rockies on Thursday. His outing was bookended by a pair of homers allowed -- DJ LeMahieu in the first and Nolan Arenado in the sixth -- but in between, Corbin was very good. The eight strikeouts were more than he had in his first three starts combined last year (seven). It's just one game, but this was an encouraging performance from a player who was going outside of the top 200 on average during draft season.
Mar 24 2018Corbin covered five innings in Friday's 6-1 Cactus League loss to the Indians, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks. He struck out three of the 24 batters he faced.Corbin had a little trouble with his control in his final spring outing with the three free passes and a wild pitch, but there were some positive takeaways. Aside from allowing a solo home run to Yonder Alonso on his final pitch of the day, Corbin generally excelled at inducing weak contact, recording nine outs on the ground. The Diamondbacks haven't outlined their rotation order for the start of the season, but Corbin and Zack Godley could be the top candidates for the Opening Day nod Thursday against the Rockies with Robbie Ray currently off schedule and Zack Greinke (groin) not on track to be available until the Diamondbacks' third game.
Mar 24 2018Corbin will start for the Diamondbacks on Opening Day against the Rockies, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. With Zack Greinke dealing with a groin injury and Robbie Ray off schedule, the Diamondbacks will turn to Corbin to start the first game of the season. The 28-year-old posted a 4.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 178:61 K:BB across 189.2 innings (32 starts, one relief appearance) in 2017. He will be followed by Ray and Greinke, respectively.
Feb 14 2018Corbin's home park in Arizona will install a humidor for this season which could result in a significant drop in home runs, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.General manager Mike Hazen made the announcement late Tuesday, ending months of speculation. The humidor is expected to reduce the number of hard-hit balls in Chase Field, with some suggesting the number of homers there could fall by 25-50 percent. Corbin actually had far more trouble with the long ball on the road (19 homers in 86.2 innings) than at home (seven in 103 innings) last season, but this is still a positive for him, as it boosts his chances for continued success in Arizona, assuming he's still there on Opening Day. The lefty will look to build on last season's rebound before hitting the open market next winter.
Jan 11 2018Corbin agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.Corbin will nearly double his salary this upcoming season after posting a 4.03 ERA over 189.2 innings in 2017. He increased his strikeout rate by three percentage points and decreased his walk rate by two points in what was an injury-free campaign for the southpaw. He'll again be a key component in the Diamondbacks' impressive starting rotation that remains unchanged from last year.
Oct 7 2017Corbin is the likely choice to start Game 4 for the Diamondbacks in the NLDS, but it's not official, and he may be available out of the bullpen for Game 2 on Saturday, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Arizona will look to even the series Saturday, so they may require Corbin to come in if Robbie Ray can't eat enough innings. Expect the D-backs to reveal a finalized rotation after Game 2.
Sep 27 2017Corbin will be available out of the bullpen this weekend in Kansas City.Zack Greinke, Taijuan Walker and Robbie Ray will start this weekend as Corbin gets acclimated to a bullpen role in preparation for the postseason. Corbin has endured a couple rough starts lately, but he went on a great run in July and August, reestablishing himself as a viable major-league starter after a disastrous 2016 season.
Sep 24 2017Corbin allowed two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out five over 6.2 innings Sunday against the Marlins. He didn't record a decision in the 3-2 victory.Interestingly enough, Sunday snapped a 12-game streak of decisions for Corbin, who went 8-4 with a 3.41 ERA during that span. He's projected to make one more start in the regular season Saturday in Kansas City before he and the D-Backs set their sights on the playoffs.
Sep 19 2017Corbin (14-13) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters through five innings to take the loss against San Diego on Monday. The lefty had allowed a single run or fewer in seven of his past eight games, with the outlier an uncharacteristic shellacking -- eight runs allowed through 4.1 frames -- also at the hands of the Padres. Aside from the odd poor outing, 2017 has been an impressive rebound for Corbin, and he now sports a serviceable 3.42 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 through 13 second-half games. Corbin projects to face the Marlins at Chase Field in his next start.
Sep 14 2017Corbin (14-12) picked up the win against the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing only one run on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings while striking out seven. It was a strong return to form for Corbin after he got pummeled by the Padres his last time out. The left-hander now has a 3.16 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 73:22 K:BB in 74 second-half innings over 12 starts, and he'll get a shot at some revenge against the Friars in his next trip to the mound Monday in San Diego.
Sep 9 2017Corbin (13-12) was the pitcher of record in the Diamondbacks' 10-6 loss to the Padres on Friday, serving up eight runs on 11 hits and three walks in 4.1 innings.Corbin came up short as the Diamondbacks' franchise-record 13-game winning streak came to a close, a surprising development given the quality of opponent and how well he has pitched of late. The lefty entered Friday with a 5-0 record, 0.50 ERA and 0.79 WHIP over his previous five starts and looked well on his way to another strong outing after keeping the Padres off the board through three innings, but he completely unraveled in the fourth, allowing seven consecutive batters to reach base at one point before recording the final out of the frame. Corbin's solid body of work on the whole shouldn't completely result in fantasy owners losing faith in him, though he'll draw a more difficult matchup in his next scheduled turn Sept. 13 against the Rockies.
Sep 2 2017Corbin (13-11) was charged with two runs (one earned) on two hits over 5.1 innings in a win over the Rockies on Saturday. He struck out four and issued three walks. The lefty's now earned wins in five straight starts with a mere two earned runs allowed in that span (35.2 innings). He's gotten stronger as the season's progressed, which makes sense as he's further removed from Tommy John surgery. Corbin will have a great opportunity to continue this outstanding stretch with the Padres due up next.
Aug 27 2017Corbin (12-11) tossed seven shutout innings in an 11-0 win over the Giants on Sunday. He gave up five hits, issued one walk and struck out eight.Corbin has been on some kind of roll lately, rattling off victories in four straight starts and going 6-2 in his last eight. He's piled up 52 strikeouts to go with just 13 walks (four came in one game) during that span, and has put up a goose egg in the earned-run column thrice in his last four starts. Corbin may have his work cut out for him in his next start at Coors Field on Saturday, but he's still worth a look if he's available on your wire.
Aug 22 2017Corbin improved to 11-11 on the strength of eight strong innings against the Mets on Tuesday, striking out six while allowing just a single run on four hits and two walks. While there have been some stumbles along the way -- most notably a brutal implosion against the Cubs on Aug. 1 -- and he's been burned by unearned runs at times, Corbin has turned in a highly fantasy-relevant 13-start stretch. During that span, he's tossed exactly 80 innings, putting up a 2.93 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 84 strikeouts. He's been particularly sharp since that awful outing in Chicago, having given up just four earned runs with a 31:6 K:BB in 29.1 innings over his last four starts, including a scoreless rematch against the Cubs and a near complete-game shutout in Houston. All in all, it looks like the lefty is finally starting to regain his pre-injury form. There'll still be bumps in the road, but he's raised his stock considerably nonetheless.
Aug 17 2017Corbin (10-11) pitched 8.2 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts during Thursday's win over Houston. He allowed just four hits and a walk.Corbin has struggled on the road this season with a 6.79 ERA away from Chase Field, so this gem was all the more impressive coming at Minute Maid Park. The lefty entered Thursday's outing in solid form over his previous 12 starts with a 3.65 ERA and 10.3 K/9, despite allowing a .372 BABIP. The strikeouts are especially valuable, and with Arizona pushing for a playoff berth, Corbin should continue to be a solid source of wins down the stretch. He projects to face the Mets at Citi Field in his next start.
Aug 12 2017Corbin struck out eight over 6.2 scoreless innings against the Cubs on Saturday to pick up his ninth win. He gave up five hits and walked one.He has now struck out 18 over his last 12.2 innings and has 133 strikeouts in 135.1 innings on the season. His 4.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP aren't doing anyone any favors, but the strikeouts and wins have helped keep him relevant. This was a tricky matchup for Corbin, but he aptly navigated it. He will face another tough test in his next start in Houston.
Aug 6 2017Corbin (8-11) allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Giants.Corbin's defense let him down against one of the league's weakest lineups, with a pair of errors resulting in three unearned runs. On the bright side, Corbin pitched much better after getting pummeled for seven earned runs in three innings by the Cubs last time out and even racked up double-digit strikeouts for the first time since July 24, 2015. He'll get another crack at the Cubs in his next start Friday.
Aug 2 2017Corbin (8-10) lasted just three innings in Tuesday's 16-4 loss to the Cubs, serving up eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and a walk. He struck out three batters in the outing.Corbin had started to regain trust from fantasy owners after submitting a 2.83 ERA and 50 strikeouts over his last eight starts, but much of that goodwill was squandered as he endured one of his rockiest outings of the campaign. He gave up a season-high three home runs in the start, including one to the opposing pitcher, Jon Lester. With Robbie Ray (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list and the Diamondbacks' top replacement starting option, Randall Delgado (elbow) also on the DL, Corbin isn't in danger of losing his rotation spot, but owners may want to be more judicious with when they keep the lefty active in future starts.
Jul 26 2017Corbin (8-9) struggled with his control in Wednesday's start against Atlanta -- walking four batters, hit one and threw a wild pitch in addition to allowing seven hits -- but limited the damage to two runs, striking out five in a 10-3 victory. The four bases on balls mark a season high for the lefty, who doesn't usually experience such control issues -- the hit batsman was only his second of the year, the wild pitch his sixth. Nonetheless, Corbin has simply been too hittable for the second straight year, making him more of a streaming option than a regular member of a quality fantasy rotation.
Jul 20 2017Corbin (7-9) allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over 7.1 innings in a win over the Reds on Thursday.Called upon to replace Taijuan Walker (paternity) on Thursday, Corbin shined in Cincinnati, turning in his eighth straight start with three runs or fewer allowed. He got himself into trouble in the fourth, but Corbin escaped without allowing a run after loading the bases with nobody out. His season numbers are still unsightly, but Corbin's recent run of success has his stock trending upward ahead of an upcoming two-step (vs Braves, at Cardinals).
Jul 20 2017Corbin will take the mound for the Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Reds, as scheduled starter Tajuan Walker has been scratched due to a family emergency.Corbin faced the Reds in his last start before the All-Star break, turning in a quality start with nine strikeouts across six innings. He'll get a rematch sooner than expected, serving as the last-minute replacement for Walker. The lefty will be opposed by Luis Castillo in the afternoon matchup.
Jul 15 2017Corbin (6-9) allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six across five innings but received no decision on Saturday against the Braves.Corbin allowed a homer and RBI double to Brandon Phillips to account for the only runs scored on him, and although he left with a one-run deficit, the offense came back to take him off the hook for a potential loss. He's held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts to lower his ERA from 5.38 to 4.66, and he's been a reliable fantasy option over the past month. He'll make his next start Friday against the Nationals.
Jul 9 2017Corbin (6-3) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine batters during Sunday's loss to Cincinnati.Corbin heads into the All-Star break in solid form. The lefty has surrendered three runs or fewer in each of his past six starts and sports a 4.71 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 and 4.25 FIP for the campaign. His numbers are inflated by a poor six-game stretch where he allowed 32 runs through just 31 innings, but otherwise, he's been a serviceable fantasy asset. Being selective with his opponents is an option, and this might prove to be a buy-low spot for Corbin.
Jul 4 2017Corbin (6-8) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers. He struck out eight.Corbin entered Tuesday's contest with a 4.76 ERA but was coming off of three consecutive quality starts. It was clear the 27-year-old didn't have his best stuff, as he was chased from the game in the fifth inning after allowing nine hitters to reach base in the opening 4.2 frames. Corbin held a shiny 2.29 ERA following his first five starts of the season, but he has struggled to regain that form over the past two months. He'll look to get back on track during his upcoming scheduled start against the Reds on Sunday.
Jun 29 2017Corbin allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters through six innings during Thursday's loss to St. Louis. He didn't factor into the decision. The lefty has now allowed just eight earned runs through 24.1 innings over his past four starts, and his ERA and WHIP down to 4.76 and 1.51 for the year, respectively. Corbin owns the potential to be a serviceable fantasy asset, and his current run is encouraging, but it still isn't out of the question to be selective with his matchups -- especially at home. It's worth noting that he has a daunting road start on deck against the Dodgers.
Jun 23 2017Corbin (6-7) allowed just one run on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings Friday but still took the loss Friday against the Phillies.Despite the loss, Corbin picked up his second straight quality starts. He now owns a solid 2.95 ERA and a stellar 18:4 K:BB over his past three starts. Corbin's 4.89 ERA this season is still underwhelming, but at least he has started to show a semblance of his old form in his most recent starts.
Jun 18 2017Corbin will have his upcoming start scheduled for Thursday against the Rockies pushed back, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.Manager Tory Lovullo has opted to shuffle his rotation in order to prevent Corbin from having to pitch in the difficult environment that is Coors Field. Over the past two seasons, Corbin has allowed 16 earned runs over 10.1 innings at Coors. The exact date of his next scheduled start has not been revealed, but it will likely take place during the team's upcoming weekend home stand against the Phillies.
Jun 16 2017Corbin (6-6) allowed four runs -- just two earned -- on five hits while striking out five batters through six innings during Friday's win over Philadelphia. The lefty owned an 8.35 ERA through his previous seven outings, so Friday's showing was a nice rebound. Corbin has flashed enough fantasy potential to be utilized in favorable matchups, but his game-to-game inconsistency makes him a nightly risk. For the campaign, Corbin sports a disappointing 5.19 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 7.7 K/9, and he projects to make his next start against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Jun 8 2017Corbin (5-6) allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out eight batters through 5.2 innings during Thursday's win over San Diego. While the win and strikeouts were nice bonuses Thursday, it was another mediocre outing from the lefty, and Corbin now sports a disappointing 5.38 ERA and 1.61WHIP for the campaign. It's especially discouraging because he started the season with 2.29 and 1.27 marks through his first six starts. It's probably best to only utilize Corbin in favorable matchups until he can show more consistency. A road start against the Tigers is up next.
Jun 2 2017Corbin (4-6) allowed six runs, five of which were earned, on nine hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings to take the loss Friday against the Marlins.Corbin was lit up for four runs in the first inning, and although he settled down a bit, dug the Diamondbacks into large of a hole to come back from. He's only been moderately effective in one of his last six starts, and is 5.43 ERA making him a player to avoid in fantasy lineups. He'll make his next start Friday against the Brewers.
May 28 2017Corbin (4-5) pitched four-plus innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits with three walks and three strikeouts in Sunday's 9-5 loss in Milwaukee.Corbin just didn't have it this time out. He gave up a leadoff triple to Keon Broxton to spark a two-run first for the Brewers. Then, after his offense cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth, he served up a grand slam to Domingo Santana in the bottom half. He gave up hits to the last two batters he faced before getting removed. He's now allowed 26 runs in his last 26 innings over five starts, erasing a strong start to the season. His ERA has ballooned to 5.14. It sat at 2.29 after five April starts. Corbin faces the Marlins on Friday, looking to get things back on track.
May 24 2017Corbin (4-4) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the White Sox.After a trio of rough outings Corbin rebounded to deliver his sixth quality start of the season. The left-hander's 4.40 ERA and 1.43 WHIP won't attract much interest in shallow fantasy leagues, but with a potent Arizona offense supporting him Corbin could take a run at his career high of 14 wins, set back in 2013. He'll next take the mound Sunday in Milwaukee.
May 17 2017Corbin yielded four runs on nine hits (two homers) over six innings in Wednesday's extra-inning win over the Mets. He struck out six and walked one. After opening the season with a 2.29 ERA despite a 1.27 WHIP over his first six outings, Corbin looked to be in for a course correction, and it's hit him hard -- he's been ripped for 16 runs over his last 16 innings spanning three starts. Sure, pitching in Arizona does him no favors, but he's actually been far worse on the road. The lefty's 4.35 FIP seems to indicate that his 4.38 ERA is pretty reflective of his true level at this point in time; it wouldn't be surprising to see him improve as the season goes on, as we've seen him be better than this before, but Corbin's best deployed as a streaming option in mixed leagues right now.
May 13 2017Corbin (3-4) gave up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings in Friday's 11-4 win over the Pirates.Arizona scored all 11 of their runs in the third and fourth innings, allowing Corbin to coast to an easy victory despite a less than sharp outing. The 27-year-old lefty will try to rebound, or at least hope for plenty of run support once again, in his next start Wednesday at home against the Mets.
May 8 2017Corbin (2-4) surrendered eight runs on nine hits and one walk across four innings in Saturday's 9-1 loss to the Rockies. He struck out three batters in the outing.Corbin had delivered three quality starts in a row heading into Saturday's turn, but that streak came to a quick end at Coors Field. He gave up four runs in the first inning and served up two homers, nearly matching his combined total (three) from his preceding six starts this season. Things should go more smoothly in Corbin's next outing Friday at Chase Field against the Pirates, whose .307 team wOBA ranks 23rd in the majors.
Apr 30 2017Corbin allowed two hits while walking two and striking out six over 6.1 shutout innings for a no-decision in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Rockies. The talented left-hander lowered his season ERA to 2.29 with the 99-pitch effort. Corbin hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his six starts so far and has struck out 30 and walked 11 in 35.1 innings. The strikeout upside is clear, and if he can limit the walks over the course of a full season, we could be seeing the beginning of Corbin's breakout 2017.
Apr 25 2017Corbin (2-3) allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks across seven strong innings in Tuesday's win over the Padres. He struck out nine.Corbin came through with his best outing of the season in many regards, completing seven frames for the first time while registering a season high in strikeouts en route to his fourth straight quality start. He also topped the 100-pitch mark for the first time this season and appears to be nearing top form after a substandard 2016 campaign. Corbin will carry a tidy 3.10 ERA into a challenging matchup with the Rockies at home on Sunday.
Apr 21 2017Corbin (1-3) surrendered three runs on five hits over six innings to take the loss Thursday against the Padres, but struck out eight batters.Corbin excelled for the most part at limiting the damage from the Padres bats, but made a mistake in the bottom of the first inning, misplacing a 93 mile-per-hour fastball to Wil Myers, who clobbered the ball 431 feet for the game's first run. The 8:0 K:BB ratio was Corbin's best of the season, and he's now covered six innings in each of his last three starts to help limit the strain of the Diamondbacks bullpen. Corbin's next start is scheduled to come Monday against these same Padres at home, so he should make for a decent streaming option once again.
Apr 16 2017Corbin (1-2) gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks over six innings in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Dodgers. The damage could have been far worse for Corbin, who struggled to find the strike zone all game and gave up four extra-base hits. His ERA sits at 2.81 through three starts, but that's not exactly indicative of how he's pitched. He holds identical K/9 and BB/9 rates (3.94) and has a 4.37 FIP, suggesting that an ERA correction could soon be in order.
Apr 9 2017Corbin (1-1) allowed four hits while walking two and striking out three in his six-inning shutout win over the Indians on Sunday. It's an encouraging sign after Corbin labored through his first start of the season. The 27-year-old southpaw struggled through an awful 2016 season after returning from Tommy John surgery, so fantasy owners should expect more ups and downs as he works out the kinks. Despite the lack of strikeouts so far (four in two starts), Corbin's ability to keep the Tribe off the scoreboard is a good sign moving forward.
Apr 5 2017Corbin gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a pair of walks over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Giants. He struck out only a single batter.Once one of the more promising arms around, Corbin's seen his career derailed by Tommy John surgery, and he really hasn't come all the way back yet. Last season's 5.15 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 155.2 innings speak volumes about how badly the lefty struggled, and he's off to a similarly poor start this year. Poor control and hittability were huge issues for him last season, so it's disturbing that he showed both off in his first start of the new campaign.
Mar 25 2017Corbin will begin the season in the Arizona rotation with Archie Bradley moving to the bullpen, ArizonaSports.com reports.Corbin and Shelby Miller won the final two spots in the rotation. Corbin has a 3.44 ERA this spring with an encouraging 17:3 K:BB in 18.1 innings.
Mar 15 2017Corbin fired five scoreless frames in his start against the Rangers on Tuesday afternoon. He was very sharp throughout the outing, striking out five and pounding the strike zone (56 pitches, 42 strikes). Corbin appears to have the edge in the competition for the No. 5 starter job to begin the season, especially since Archie Bradley has been inconsistent this spring. The left-hander leaned heavily on his fastball Tuesday, sitting at 91-94 mph with the pitch, an encouraging sign after his fastball velocity dipped slightly in 2016.
Feb 21 2017Corbin is currently listed one of the team's five members of the starting rotation on the D-backs' official site.Archie Bradley and Braden Shipley are listed behind Corbin, who may be destined for the bullpen depending on how the competition for the final two spots in the rotation plays out. Shelby Miller, who listed as the team's fourth starter, will also have to earn his spot this spring, but the most likely scenarios include Corbin moving to the bullpen and Bradley beginning the season back at Triple-A Reno if the starters atop the depth chart remain healthy between now and Opening Day.
Jan 13 2017Corbin agreed to a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks on Friday, avoiding arbitration. The terms of the agreement were not announced. Corbin is coming off a pretty terrible year in which he posted a 5.15 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 131:66 K:BB in 155.2 innings. He will compete with Shelby Miler, Archie Bradley and Braden Shipley for the final two spots in the big league rotation this spring.
Sep 15 2016Corbin pitched three perfect innings with four strikeouts to finish off Thursday's win over the Dodgers for his second career save.Indeed, Corbin did get a save back in his rookie year of 2012, but had been a starter (or injured) since. This was a nice outing and all, but it really just serves to highlight that he's now a long reliever who rarely appears in important situations.
Aug 22 2016Corbin pitched two innings in Sunday's loss to the Padres, allowing three hits and two runs (both earned). He struck out two and walked one.The move to the bullpen hasn't changed the results for Corbin, who's struggled pretty much all season. Since shifting to a relief role, he's tossed 4.1 innings and has allowed six hits and five earned runs. For the season, the lefty now has a 5.73 ERA to go along with a 1.67 WHIP.
Aug 14 2016According to manager Chip Hale, Corbin is heading to the bullpen. In his last three starts, Corbin has surrendered a total of 11 earned runs, but his defense has made it look even worse, adding seven more unearned runs to that line. In any case, the southpaw and his 5.58 ERA now appear to be slated for long relief, though the team has yet to announce a replacement option.
Jul 31 2016Corbin (4-10) threw 5.1 innings against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing six runs, although only three earned, on eight hits and three walks while striking out six. He took the loss.Corbin actually pitched alright Sunday, but his defense cost him with a pair of key errors by Jake Lamb and Chris Owings. The errors caused both unearned runs and extra baserunners allowed, as Corbin was forced to face extra hitters following the blunders. Unearned runs have been something of a pattern for Corbin lately: he has allowed at least one unearned run in four of his five most recent starts. Even after allowing for the poor defense, Corbin has had a miserable July, going 0-4 with a 6.30 ERA. He'll look to right the ship against the Brewers on Saturday.
Jul 26 2016Corbin (4-9) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings, but received no decision Tuesday at the Brewers.Corbin allowed three runs in the first inning, and settled down before giving up a run in the sixth inning that broke a 3-3 tie, but the offense scored late to take him off the hook for a possible loss. Opponents have now scored at least four runs off him in each of his last six starts, and his ERA is at a season-high 5.31. He'll make his next start Sunday against the Dodgers.
Jul 20 2016Corbin (4-9) lasted 5.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned), nine hits and two walks while striking out four Jays in Wednesday's loss.Corbin's day started with a Josh Donaldson splash-landing in the Chase Field swimming pool during the first frame. After five pitches, Corbin found himself in a 2-0 hole that foreshadowed the rest of his day. The lefty is now 0-7 at home, but at least his next start on Monday will be in Milwaukee.
Jul 14 2016Corbin will start Friday's game against the Dodgers.Corbin will take the ball for the Diamondbacks' first game of the second half Friday due to a lack of available arms at the top of the rotation with Zack Greinke (oblique) sidelined and Shelby Miller sent down to Triple-A. The left-handed Corbin has yet to truly get into a rhythm on the hill thus far this season, and he has traditionally worn down as the season progresses given his career 4.42 ERA and 1.338 WHIP in the second half. He'll be opposed by Bud Norris on Friday.
Jul 8 2016Corbin took the loss Friday versus the Giants, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and five walks across just 4.2 innings. He struck out one batter. After allowing a pair of early runs, Corbin was unlucky to allow a pair of unearned runs following an error in the third inning. He then proceeded to load the bases in the fifth, and ran his pitch count up to 97 while walking in a run before receiving the hook. Corbin will end the first half of the season with an unsightly 4.94 ERA and will look to bounce back after some extra rest during the All-Star break.
Jun 26 2016Corbin was shelled for six runs on seven hits and five walks Sunday in just 4.1 innings versus the Rockies. He struck out one and did not factor into the decision.Corbin simply couldn't find his command Sunday, as he tied a season-high in walks and threw a feeble 50% of his pitches for strikes. He had delivered quality starts in three of his previous four starts prior to Sunday, but his ERA still sits at an unimpressive 4.99 on the season. Corbin has yet to resemble his pre-Tommy John surgery self this season and will be a shaky fantasy play in his next start Saturday at home to the Giants.
Jun 21 2016Corbin (4-6) allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 6.1 innings in a win Tuesday over the Blue Jays.Corbin was putting baserunners on with regularity but only paid for it once, when Kevin Pillar hit a two-run double in the fourth inning. He used two double plays to escape jams and induced 13 overall groundouts. That should help him avoid the home runs that have been his Achilles heel -- he has given up 13 in 15 starts. Corbin has a 52.6 percent ground ball rate on the season and we should expect his 4.63 ERA to keep falling if he can continue to keep the ball in the ballpark like he did Tuesday night.
Jun 15 2016Corbin (3-6) pitched well, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings, but it wasn't enough versus Clayton Kershaw, as the Diamondbacks lost to the Dodgers 3-2. Corbin also struck out seven and walked three.Although he did allow 10 base runners, Corbin's only major mistake was a home run to Scott Van Slyke, but with two runners on, the three runs were all Kershaw needed. Corbin has been pitching better this month, but he is still just 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA in June. His next start will be Tuesday versus Toronto.
Jun 11 2016Corbin tossed 6.1 innings of four-run ball in Friday's loss to the Marlins, giving up five hits and striking out six. This was a step back from Corbin's last start, when he outdueled the Cubs' Jake Arrieta in Chicago. Still, Corbin left the game in line for a win, but the Arizona bullpen imploded. Corbin's next scheduled start is Wednesday against the Dodgers.
May 31 2016Corbin (2-5) only lasted 3.1 innings during Tuesday's loss against Houston, in which he allowed seven runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.Well...that was ugly. In what was Corbin's worst start of the season, the 26-year-old lefty failed to reach the fifth inning for the first time this season, and now he's allowed at least three runs in three of the last four starts. Corbin's next start won't be any easier, as he will take the mound on the road against the Cubs on Sunday.
May 8 2016Corbin (1-3) came away with a no-decision Sunday despite tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out five. The Diamondbacks did eventually win the game in extra innings, but that's little consolation for anyone with fantasy shares in Corbin. The outing lowered his ERA to 4.12, and he'll try to carry that momentum into his next start, at home against the Giants on Saturday.
Jul 5 2015Corbin won his first start of the season Saturday over Colorado, pitching five innings while allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out three.Corbin threw 76 pitches (56 of them for strikes) in his return to a major league mound after 2014 Tommy John surgery. It was an impressive debut for the former All-Star, but worth noting that the D-backs indicated he wouldn't be allowed to go over 90 pitches in this outing and pulled him well before that mark. Corbin is likely to be on restricted pitch counts in his starts for much of the remainder of the season.
Jul 3 2015Corbin (elbow) will officially start against the Rockies on Saturday.A corresponding move to clear space on the 25-man and 40-man roster will likely come after Friday's game. The start will be Corbin's first since September of 2013. Through four rehab starts, Corbin had an 11:7 K:BB over 17 innings between High-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile.
Jul 1 2015Manager Chip Hale is leaning towards giving Corbin (elbow) the start Saturday against the Rockies, Nick Piecoro of Azcentral.com reports.Corbin was expected to return next week for the Diamondbacks' series against the Rangers, but now it looks like he may fill the empty spot in the rotation on Saturday. Still, no official announcement has been made at this point. Regardless, Corbin appears to be nearing a pre-All Star break return regardless of whether he gets the nod Saturday or not.
Jun 30 2015Corbin (elbow) will make his return to the D-backs' rotation when they visit Texas on July 7-8, reports Fox Sports Arizona's Kevin Zimmerman. There is finally a target date for Corbin's anticipated return. It sounds like the Diamondbacks will still proceed cautiously with his initial start, but if he's truly healthy his workload will ramp up quickly. As with all pitchers returning from Tommy John, Corbin will likely not perform up to his past level initially, but he still has an all-star level ceiling.
Jun 28 2015Corbin (elbow) will make one more rehab start before returning to the Diamondbacks, the Arizona Republic reports. Corbin is coming off his best rehab outing since returning from Tommy John surgery, as he tossed six innings for Double-A Mobile on Friday while giving up one run on four hits and two walks. It looks like Corbin will make his season debut for Arizona before the All-Star break, but an exact return date and where his last rehab assignment will take place are unknown right now. This is positive news, especially after his comeback was slowed down following discomfort after an extended spring training outing. He has shown good velocity as his rehab has progressed, but his command will dictate his success when he gets back to facing major-league hitters.
Jun 21 2015Corbin (elbow) will make two more rehab starts before rejoining the Diamondbacks rotation, Jack Magruder of Fox Sports Arizona reports.Corbin allowed just two runs on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings with Double-A Mobile on Saturday, an encouraging sign of his progress. Two more rehab starts would likely slate his return for some point in early July.
Jun 21 2015Corbin (elbow) allowed two runs on three hits and three walks, with three strikeouts over 5.2 innings in his latest rehab start at Double-A Mobile.Corbin threw 79 pitches in the outing and should be close to nearing a return to the D-backs in late June or early July. He may require another rehab outing or two to build up his arm strength further before returning.
Jun 15 2015Corbin gave up two runs on six hits over 4.2 innings in a rehab start at Double-A Mobile on Sunday. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter. This was an improvement over his first rehab outing, in which he gave up four runs on four hits and two walks in 0.2 of an inning at High-A Visalia. The left-hander threw 76 pitches Sunday and is likely to make two or three more rehab starts before rejoining the Diamondbacks near the end of the month.
Jun 5 2015Corbin (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Visalia on Monday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.Corbin continues working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in march of 2014, and will take another step forward in a rehab start Monday. His fastball reportedly sits around 94 MPH according to manager Chip Hale, and if no setbacks occur as he builds arm strength, a late June or early July return seems plausible.
Jun 2 2015Corbin (elbow) covered 3.2 innings in an extended spring training start Monday, conceding no runs and striking out eight batters. The results should be taken with a grain of salt since they came against a smattering of low-level Diamondbacks prospects, but by all accounts, the lefty threw the ball well during the outing. According to manager Chip Hale, Corbin's fastball hovered around 94 miles per hour, and 36 of his 51 pitches checked in as strikes. Corbin has now made four starts at extended spring training, and after the Diamondbacks check up on the health of his elbow Tuesday, it's possible he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the minor leagues. He'll probably make for a quality stash option now that he looks to be only a couple rehab starts off rejoining the Diamondbacks.
May 30 2015Corbin (elbow) threw 35 pitches in a bullpen sessions Thursday, but the next step in his rehab from Tommy John surgery is not clear according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.Corbin's progress toward a return to the majors has been slowed after he didn't look great in an extended spring training start. Fantasy owners who were hoping for an early June return obviously need to reset their expectations until a clearer timeline is announced.
May 20 2015Corbin's next rehab outing may be pushed back, according to GM Dave Stewart, reports Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. While the D-Backs are saying this is "nothing to be alarmed about," Corbin was not as strong in his most recent outing as he had been previously, so the D-Backs may opt to give him a bit of extra rest. The news may spark some anxiety among Corbin's fantasy owners given the slew of pitchers who recently had slow recoveries from Tommy John surgery, or required a second procedure (including teammate Daniel Hudson), but this isn't currently being labeled a setback.
May 17 2015Corbin (elbow) is scheduled to throw five innings (75 pitches) Monday at extended spring training, Nick Piecoro of AZ Central Sports reports.Corbin will embark upon one of the most meaningful leaps in the rehab process, and if all goes well, he'll be cleared for a rehab outing at Double-A Mobile the following week. The Diamondbacks are tentatively targeting an early-June return for their former ace.
May 13 2015The Diamondbacks are targeting June 4 for Corbin (elbow) to make his 2015 debut, Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona reports.Corbin is set to begin a rehab assignment in the near future, and barring any setbacks, he will take the mound for the big club in early June for the first time since 2013.
May 10 2015Corbin was transferred to the 60-day DL Sunday.Corbin's roster spot was needed to make room for an extra reliever, but this shouldn't affect his estimated return date. He remains scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at some point over the next two weeks.
May 7 2015Corbin threw well in his first rehab start in extended spring training Tuesday, reports Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro.Corbin remains about a month away from returning to a major league mound, and he will still need several rehabs starts prior to that, but this is an encouraging report. It is not clear yet whose spot he would take in the rotation when we he returns.
May 7 2015Corbin (elbow) is on track to begin a rehab assignment next week or the following week, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.Corbin is scheduled to throw once more at the team's extended spring training complex Monday, and if all goes well during that session, he will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter. Corbin will need to build up his arm strength before he is ready to pitch for the Diamondbacks, but he could make his 2015 debut for the club sometime in June.
Apr 29 2015Corbin (elbow) tossed a 30-pitch simulated game at Chase Field on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.Manager Chip Hale said afterward that Corbin was able to mix all his pitches and looked good during the session. The lefty is in line for another simulated game Sunday back at extended spring training, after which he may soon be ready to start a rehab assignment.
Apr 22 2015Corbin (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday.Corbin continues to make his way back from Tommy John surgery on a timeline that could see him return to a major league mound in mid-June.
Apr 4 2015Corbin (elbow) will open the season on the DL, Zach Buchanan of the Arizona Republic reports. This has been the plan all along. Corbin is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and is targeting a June return to the Arizona rotation.
Apr 4 2015Corbin (elbow) was officially placed on the 15-day DL by the Diamondbacks on Saturday.Corbin will return from his Tommy John at some point before Bronson Arroyo, barring a setback during the ramping up period.
Mar 25 2015Corbin (elbow) threw his first bullpen session Tuesday since having Tommy John surgery last March, the Arizona Republic reports. The session Tuesday included 20 pitches -- all fastballs -- and Corbin is expected to progress through adding changeups before working breaking pitches back into the mix. The Diamondbacks are hoping to get Corbin back into their rotation in June, which will likely follow a complete 30-day rehab assignment in the minor leagues as he stretches out following the long absence.
Feb 12 2015Corbin (elbow) has been playing catch from 105 feet at the Diamondbacks' Spring Training Facility, Steve Gilbert of the Arizona Republic reports.Corbin missed the entire 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Although the recovery time is normally 12 months, the team sees Corbin's recovery more as a 15-month plan. He'll continue moving back 15 feet every week until he hits 150 feet. He went 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA in 2013.
Nov 11 2014The D-backs remain hopeful that Corbin (elbow) will be ready to return to their rotation by June, the Arizona Republic reports.Even though Corbin had Tommy John surgery in late March, the expectations from the team have consistently pointed to a return closer to 14 months than 12. The typical range is 12-to-18 months, and the D-backs lack pitching depth on the big league roster, so ensuring that Corbin is brought along carefully is easy to rationalize.
Aug 27 2014Corbin (elbow) may not be ready to pitch for the Diamondbacks until June of next season, Scott Bordow of the Arizona Republic reports.Manager Kirk Gibson said Wednesday that the Diamondbacks are proceeding conservatively with their treatment of Corbin, who underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on Mar. 25. With Corbin's long-term interests in mind, the Diamondbacks have already ruled him out from returning to the Opening Day rotation, and will look to manage his innings in 2015 as he returns from a major procedure. As the pitching staff currently stands, Wade Miley looks poised to enter next season as the Diamondbacks' ace.
Apr 4 2014The Diamondbacks transferred Corbin to the 60-day disabled list Friday.Corbin was already ruled out for the season, but Friday's move was procedural to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Roger Kieschnick.
Mar 30 2014Corbin (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.Corbin underwent Tommy John surgery recently and is hoping to be ready for the start of 2015. He'll likely be moved to the 60-day DL to free up a 40-man spot within the next few weeks.
Mar 25 2014Corbin underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Tuesday and will be out for the season, FOX Sports Arizona reports.Corbin won 14 games and posted a 3.41 ERA in a breakout campaign a year ago, but unfortunately he will not get the opportunity to improve upon those numbers this season. The Diamondbacks have not announced a recovery timetable for Corbin, but if all goes well with the process, he could be ready to go for the beginning of the 2015 season.
Mar 24 2014Updating a previous report, Corbin (elbow) will not actually undergo Tommy John surgery on Monday, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports. This doesn't mean that Corbin won't be having the procedure, but rather that it will likely be pushed back a few days until later this week. Barring any unforeseen breakthroughs, it's safe to expect that Corbin will miss the 2014 campaign.
Mar 24 2014Corbin (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on Monday, Jack Macgruder of FOX Sports Arizona reports.Corbin's second opinion from Dr. James Andrews didn't change his original prognosis, so Andrews will perform the surgery on Monday. It's expected to be a regular procedure, and Corbin will be on roughly a year-long recovery time, as is typical of most pitchers who undergo Tommy John. He'll use the offseason and next spring for rehab, and look to return to the Diamondbacks rotation in April, barring any major setbacks.
Mar 17 2014Corbin (elbow) will make a decision regarding Tommy John surgery after a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews later this week, the Arizona Republic reports.Even if he tries to go the rehab route, Corbin would still be in danger of requiring a procedure down the line to repair the tear, and he'll likely be sidelined until early April of 2015 even if he undergoes Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks. Wade Miley will take the ball in Saturday's opener against the Dodgers, while the door may now be opened for Archie Bradley to take over a rotation spot in Corbin's absence.
Mar 16 2014An MRI on Corbin's left elbow showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com reports. The Diamondbacks will seek a second opinion, but things are looking bleak for Corbin. The 24-year-old left Saturday's game with stiffness in his left forearm, but his removal was initially deemed precautionary. Depending on the extent of the damage to Corbin's UCL, there's a chance he could be looking at Tommy John surgery.
Mar 15 2014Corbin left Saturday's game for precautionary reasons due to stiffness in his left forearm."Precautionary reasons" is obviously a good sign, but "forearm stiffness" is a scary term around this time of the year. Serious elbow injuries are often preceded by reports of forearm stiffness, though there's no need to jump to conclusions based solely on the stiffness. It's entirely possible that Corbin is only dealing with a day-to-day type injury, as indicated by the Diamondbacks' official twitter account. Prospective fantasy owners should tread carefully until more information is available, while those who already own Corbin should simply monitor the situation.
Mar 3 2014Corbin will start the Diamondbacks' season opener in Australia against the Dodgers, according to manager Kirk Gibson.Corbin has been lined up in his spring starts to go in the season opener and Gibson confirmed this Monday. He had a great season in 2013, going 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 208.1 innings. With the season opener being a week ahead of the rest of the league, it could provide Corbin the chance for an extra start early in the season.
Feb 26 2014Corbin will make his spring debut Friday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.Manager Kirk Gibson refused to confirm anything, but by starting Friday Corbin is on track to pitch the first game of the Diamondbacks' two-game series in Australia, which could earn him an extra start over the course of the season.
Oct 25 2013Corbin has been announced as a finalist for a Rawlings Gold Glove Award, according to MLB.com.It's a nice honor for one of 2013's breakout pitchers. Corbin started hot, posting a 2.35 pre-All-Star ERA, but faded down the stretch, to include a 7.04 ERA in six September starts. He was still awfully impressive for a guy who won the final rotation spot late in spring training, but temper your 2014 expectations for the 24-year-old now that the league has had a year to figure him out.
Sep 28 2013Corbin endured another rough outing as he gave up five runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts against the Nationals on Friday.Corbin has now allowed 15 earned runs over his last 11.1 innings (three starts) and doesn't exactly finish the season on the highest of notes. Still, there was plenty to like about the 24-year-old's season as he posted a 10-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and a 21.2-percent strikeout rate over the first half of the season. He struggled through the second half with a 5.19 ERA and seemed to tire even more down the stretch. Still, at such a young age and with such immense potential, he's going to be a much more sought-after commodity in drafts next year.
Sep 22 2013Corbin gave up four earned runs on a whopping ten hits over just 4.1 innings Sunday.Corbin was pulled after 73 pitches (53 strikes) and showed further signs he's wearing out as the season nears its conclusion.
Sep 18 2013The Diamondbacks plan to let Corbin finish out the season rather than shut him down, Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com reports.Corbin does seem to wearing down (5.03 ERA over his last 10 starts), but the team will let the 24-year-old work through his struggles rather than cutting his season short. He's expected to make two more starts before the regular season ends.
Sep 17 2013Corbin coughed up six runs in just two-plus innings Tuesday against the Dodgers. He allowed six hits, one walk, and posted only one strikeout in his shortest outing of the year.Corbin's rough second half continues. After cruising to a 12-1 record and an All-Star appearance, the young lefty seemingly hit a wall in late July. In his last 10 starts he's just 2-6 with a 5.03 ERA.
Sep 11 2013Corbin moved to 14-6 after picking up the win against the Dodgers on Wednesday. He gave up one run on eight hits while walking two and striking out two over 6.1 innings.Corbin was coming off of three consecutive losses, so it was good to see him get back into the win column. His recent struggles have caused owners to worry if the young ace is tiring down the stretch, but Corbin said he felt fresh after the game and looks forward to closing out the season strong. His next start comes against the Dodgers again next Tuesday.
Sep 7 2013Corbin was the hard-luck loser on Friday after giving up just three runs on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts over eight innings against the Giants.Unfortunately for Corbin, he was unable to get Hunter Pence out and was matched up against Yusmiero Petit who three a complete-game, one-hit shutout in this one. He threw a 110 pitches (79 strikes) in a complete game of his own and has seemingly bounced back from a pair of rough outings in which he gave up 13 runs in just 10.1 innings. He'll face the Dodgers in pitcher-friendly Chavez Ravin next, but has a 7.20 ERA in one start there this season. It would appear as if Corbin is really starting to tire out here near the end, so it might be time to start playing the match-ups a little more with him than usual.
Sep 1 2013Corbin took the loss Sunday against San Francisco, as he gave up five earned runs on nine hits over just five innings. After starting the season 9-0, Corbin has gone 4-5 since, and his ERA has jumped from 2.06 to 2.96. In his last two starts, he's given up a whopping 13 earned runs over a combined 10.1 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which will be a rematch against the Giants.
Aug 25 2013Corbin posted an unsettling 5.1 innings Sunday, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits and three walks to go with four strikeouts, as the Diamondbacks were stymied in Philadelphia.Only two of the Phillies' seven hits off Corbin went for extra bases, but he allowed multiple runs in three of the six frames in which he worked, including all three inherited runners in the sixth inning. Only twice in 47 career outings have six runs crossed the plate under his watch, meaning a bounce-back should be in the cards for the 24-year-old lefty. His upcoming nod arrives next weekend versus the Giants, against whom he's notched a 1.84 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 14.2 innings across two matchups this season.
Aug 20 2013Corbin tossed a complete game in Tuesday's win over Arizona, allowing two runs and and six hits with 10 strikeouts.Corbin needed just 103 pitches to get 27 outs, matching his season high in strikeouts. Other than a two-run homer by Chris Heisey, Corbin was in control throughout. He was coming off his worst start in over a month, so it was obviously a nice bounce-back outing.
Aug 14 2013Corbin gave up four earned runs on nine hits over seven innings but was not involved in the decision as the game went to extra innings.Corbin needed 113 pitches (73 strikes) to get through seven innings, but struck out seven and walked just one. His ERA sits at a sparkling 2.48, and he'll look to get back into the win column in his next start against Cincinnati.
Aug 9 2013Corbin was denied a win in yet another quality start Friday against the Mets.Friday marks the ninth time this season Corbin has pitched a quality start and did not get a win. He went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks. His season ERA is now sitting at 2.36. His next start will come next week against the Orioles at home.
Aug 3 2013Corbin held the Red Sox to three runs on eight hits over six innings Saturday, but he still suffered his third loss of the season.Corbin pitched well in this one, but opposing starter Jake Peavy handled the Diamondbacks' offense just as capably. He will face the Mets in his next scheduled start.
Jul 28 2013Corbin fell to 12-2 Sunday, through no fault of his own as he allowed just one earned run on six hits over eight innings. He walked none and struck out eight.Corbin was fantastic against San Diego on Sunday, but his teammates could not score against Tyson Ross, and fell 1-0. His ERA sits at a crisp 2.24, and he's slated to face Boston on the road in his next start.
Jul 23 2013Corbin improved to 12-1 Tuesday, allowing just one earned and four hits over 6.0 innings.Corbin continued his dominance with a third consecutive start in which he's allowed just one run. The 24-year-old struck out six of the 26 batters he faced and lowered his season ERA to a tidy 2.31.
Jul 13 2013Corbin gave up just one run on seven hits and two walks and matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts against the Brewers on Friday. After waiting seven starts for his 10th win of the season, Corbin has now won his last two and done so with a 20:3 K:BB and a 1.23 ERA. The soon-to-be 24-year old lefty continues to dominate on the hill and finishes the first half with 11 wins, a 2.40 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP and 99 strikeouts over 123.2 innings.
Jul 7 2013Corbin finally captured his elusive 10th win of the season Sunday, holding the Rockies to one run on three hits and one walk, while tallying 10 strikeouts in eight innings. In six previous attempts to reach double-digit victories, Corbin suffered through five consecutive no-decisions mostly characterized by poor run support, before taking his first defeat of the season in his last nod Tuesday. Through it all, he still earned his first All-Star bid but still most take the hill one more time Friday against the Brewers, who he held to two runs across six innings in his first start of 2013.
Jul 2 2013Corbin was handed his first loss of the season Tuesday, giving up five earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four in six innings against the Mets. The game was delayed for almost two hours in the seventh inning as Corbin's night ended after 81 pitches with the bases loaded and no outs. The Arizona bullpen allowed all three runners to score after the delay, putting a season-high five earned runs on the 23-year-old lefty. He'll look to bounce back Sunday at home against the Rockies.
Jun 27 2013Corbin pitched well at Washington on Thursday, but did not record a decision. He gave up two runs and five hits over seven innings, striking out six.Corbin allowed a two-run homer to Ian Desmond in the fourth inning, but was otherwise terrific. He still hasn't lost a game this season, although his quest for a 10th win keeps eluding him; he's recorded a no-decision in five straight starts.
Jun 17 2013Corbin struck out seven batters and gave up two runs over eight innings in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Marlins.Corbin allowed just two hits and a walk, but one of those hits was a two-run homer off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton. Corbin left the game with the score tied at 2-2, only to watch Heath Bell take the loss after allowing another Stanton home run in the ninth inning. Corbin will take a 9-0 record in to Sunday's scheduled start against the Reds. While his numbers for the season are still excellent, he owns a mediocre 4.18 ERA over his last five starts
Jun 13 2013Corbin did not factor into the decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday. He gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out two over five innings.Corbin failed to pick up his 10th win of the season, but remained unbeaten through 13 starts this year. He has come back down to Earth a bit recently, surrendering four runs in two of his last three outings. The difference between his 3.05 FIP and his 2.28 ERA is a sign that he is due for a bit of a regression, but the rest of his peripherals indicate that his performance this season is for real. So long as he continues to limit the number of home runs he gives up, Corbin should continue to be a strong starting option. His next start comes against the Marlins on Monday.
Jun 7 2013Corbin failed in his bid to be the first pitcher to 10 wins, but still pitched a very strong game against the Giants on Friday. He allowed just one run on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts over 7.1 innings.Corbin continues to pitch like a well-seasoned veteran. He threw 101 pitches (74 strikes) and lowered his ERA to 1.98 on the season. His FIP sits at 3.10 on the season and while that would indicate that he is expected to see his ERA climb as the season progresses, it won;t be by such a large margin as he is expected to be reliant on his defense with a 45.4-percent ground ball rate. He'll seek his 10th win again next week when he faces the Dodgers at pitcher-friendly Chavez Ravine.
Jun 2 2013Corbin improved to 9-0 Sunday with six innings against the Cubs. He gave up four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five. This was the second straight start where Corbin clearly didn't have his best stuff, but he fought through six tough innings and was able to earn his ninth victory of the season, thanks in large part to his teammates, who dropped eight runs on 13 hits in Sunday's series finale. If Corbin can continue to receive the run support and stay away from making the big mistakes, he will have every opportunity to win 20 games this season.
Jun 2 2013Corbin improved to 9-0 Sunday with six solid innings against the Cubs. He gave up four runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out five. This was the second straight start where Corbin clearly didn't have his best stuff, however he fought through six tough innings and was able to earn his ninth victory of the season. Thanks in large part to his teammates, who dropped eight runs on 13 hits in Sunday's series finale. If Corbin can continue to receive the run support and stay away from making the big mistakes, he will have every opportunity to win 20 games this season.
May 26 2013Corbin improved to 8-0 with six solid innings against the Padres. He gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while striking out five. His ERA now sits at a sparkling 1.71, and Corbin has established himself as one of the premier starters in the game. May 20 2013Corbin struck out 10 batters and went the distance in Monday's 5-1 win over the Rockies.Corbin went into Coors Field and held the Rockies to one run on just three hits and a walk. He is now 7-0 with a 1.44 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 51:18 K/BB ratio, and just two home runs allowed over 62.1 innings. May 15 2013Corbin twirled a gem Tuesday, tossing seven scoreless innings with three hits, five walks, and five strikeouts, during Arizona's victory versus Atlanta. In the process, Corbin now holds the honor of only D-Backs pitcher to begin the season with eight consecutive starts going at least six innings with two or fewer runs allowed. Not Randy Johnson, not Curt Schilling, but Corbin himself, alone. With his sixth win of the season in his back pocket, Corbin has a dangerous start on the docket early next week at Colorado, where he's posted an 11.00 ERA in nine career frames.
May 14 2013Corbin is hoping to continue his stellar start to the season when he takes on the Braves on Tuesday night, Andrew Simon of MLB.com reports. The Diamondbacks' left-hander is the first pitcher in franchise history to throw at least six innings and give up two or fewer runs in each of his first seven appearences. Despite going 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA in 22 starts last season, Corbin won a rotation spot out of spring training and hasn't looked back. Manager Kirk Gibson believes much of his young lefty's success has come from maturing and learning how to locate his pitches better. Corbin has pitched like a true No.1, going 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA and a 1.058 WHIP through seven starts this season.
May 4 2013Corbin allowed one run over seven innings and was the winning pitcher Saturday against the Padres. He gave up five hits while walking three and striking out seven. Apr 29 2013Corbin continued his dominance Sunday, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks, while recording five strikeouts in 6.2 innings, during Arizona's win over Colorado. The outing marked Corbin's fifth consecutive quality start, a stretch made all the more impressive since he has yet to yield more than two runs in a game this season. In his next nod Saturday, a friendly matchup arrives in the form of spacious Petco Park in San Diego.

Apr 24 2013Corbin allowed just two runs on six hits and no walks, while notching seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings, during Arizona's victory Tuesday in San Francisco.Corbin entered the eighth inning with a shutout in hand before back-to-back hits, the second a triple, erased that thought. However, his relief allowed a ninth-inning homer to send the game into extra innings and Corbin home with his second no-decision in a row. He may have a tough time when his next turn in the rotation arrives Sunday against Colorado, who have battered him in his short career - a 6.75 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 16 frames.
Apr 18 2013Corbin pitched seven strong innings against the Yankees on Thursday, but was denied the win when J.J. Putz blew the save. Corbin allowed just one run and two hits with seven strikeouts.Other than a solo homer to Robinson Cano, Corbin was in complete control and should have picked up his third straight win. Despite the misfortune, Corbin has looked strong so far this season, allowing just three runs in 19 innings.
Apr 14 2013Corbin has been showing increased velocity on his fastball in his first two starts, averaging 92.0 mph after sitting at 90.9 last season, the Arizona Republic reports. In his most recent start against the Dodgers on Friday, Corbin was hitting 94 and 95 mph at times. Although he's unsure why his velocity is up, the extra ticks on the left-hander's fastball can only help as he looks to stick in the back of the D-Backs' rotation all season, especially if he maintains good control.
Apr 13 2013Corbin improved to 2-0 after hurling six shutout innings, allowing just three hits with three walks and four strikeouts against the Dodgers on Friday.Corbin, who didn't earn a rotation spot until very late in the spring, pitched another strong game and lowered his ERA to 1.50 through two starts. Mar 30 2013Corbin has been named the Diamondbacks' fifth starter.Manager Kirk Gibson confirmed Saturday that it will be Corbin, and not Randall Delgado, who will start the season as No. 5 starter. The 23-year-old Corbin had his ups and downs last season, but the southpaw put together an impressive spring and could post a nice strikeout total if he spends the entire year in the majors.
Mar 30 2013The D-Backs are expected to make a decision between Corbin and Randall Delgado for the fifth starter spot after Saturday's game, the team's official site reports. After another strong showing Friday against the Reds, Corbin appears to be the favorite at this point as he struck out seven and walked two over six shutout innings in his final spring start. Mar 13 2013Corbin appears to be the frontrunner for the D-Backs' fifth starter spot, the Arizona Republic reports. While manager Kirk Gibson did not confirm Corbin's status with respect to his competition, he did not deny it either. The former second-round pick has been in the 92-95 mph range this spring with his fastball while showing steady effectiveness with his slider as well. Often overlooked due to the other young starters in the organization, Corbin may have the most polish of the current contenders and has a chance to stick in the rotation all season.
Mar 12 2013Corbin struck out a pair and gave up one run on four hits over four innings Tuesday against Seattle. For the third time in four spring appearances, Corbin was effective Tuesday afternoon. Sep 17 2012Corbin tossed a career-high eight innings while giving up two runs on eight hits in a win over the Giants on Sunday. It's been somewhat under the radar, but Corbin is making a strong case for consideration to keep a spot in the 2013 rotation as he's 4-3 with a 49:11 K:BB (3.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) over 56 innings since the All-Star break.
Sep 8 2012Corbin will makes his scheduled start Sunday as previously planned, the D-Backs' official site reports.Earlier this week, there were reports that manager Kirk Gibson was considering moving Corbin back a few days as the organization looks to limit the workload of the younger starters, but any changes to achieve that goal will come after this weekend.

Aug 29 2012Corbin gave up three earned runs with eight strikeouts and a walk in 6.2 innings as the Diamondbacks lost 6-2 to the Reds Wednesday.Corbin pitched pretty well against the Reds but was burned twice by the long ball. It is fair to say Corbin might have a problem giving up home runs because he now has 11 allowed in just 82.1 innings this year. Conveniently, Corbin's next scheduled start is against the Giants who are last in the majors in home runs. Corbin gets a favorable matchup next and should be a very good start in most formats.

Aug 5 2012Corbin has been able to rediscover his slider recently and that's attributed as part of the reason behind his turnaround, the Arizona Republic reports. In addition to getting a chance to start for the D-Backs during a playoff push, Corbin is auditioning for a spot in the rotation in 2013 as Joe Saunders is a free agent this winter and the D-Backs still have a hole to address with the loss of Dan Hudson to Tommy John surgery. While Trevor Bauer is expected to claim the latter vacancy next season, Saunders' replacement is more up in the air.
Aug 2 2012Corbin struck out five and walked two while giving up two hits in six shutout innings against the Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. With Josh Collmenter moving into the long relief role, Corbin will have an opportunity to hold down a place in the Arizona rotation if he's able to pitch well. He's shown good control thus far in Arizona (15 walks, 45 innings), and could stick in the back of the rotation long term with Joe Saunders on track for free agency this winter.
Jun 28 2012Josh Collmenter will start in place of Dan Hudson (elbow) on Sunday against Milwaukee, while Corbin is expected to work out of the bullpen initially after being recalled Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports. With Collmenter's turnaround as a member of the Arizona bullpen, Corbin will shift into a relief role at least temporarily for the D-Backs after going 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 33:12 K:BB over 37.1 innings (six starts) at Triple-A Reno.

Apr 30 2012Corbin struck out six and walked three while giving up three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings while picking up the win in his first MLB start Monday against the Marlins.Although the Marlins' offense was able to inflict some damage on Corbin, he did a nice job inducing grounders in his first big league start. He lines up for his next start Saturday against the Mets at Citi Field and is worth considering in deeper formats given his polish and the growth he's shown at Double-A early on this season.
Apr 30 2012Corbin was officially recalled from Double-A Mobile on Monday morning, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.Corbin, who went 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA and 25:8 K:BB ratio in four starts with Mobile this season, will make his major league debut Monday. Corbin is a good prospect in his own right, but is often overshadowed in a talent-laden Arizona farm system. In 30 Double-A starts dating back to last season, Corbin has a 167:48 K:BB in 187.1 innings and there's reason to think that he may be able to stick in the Arizona rotation if he fares well in Collmenter's place.
Apr 28 2012Manager Kirk Gibson announced Saturday that Corbin will be recalled to start Monday's game against the Marlins, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.Corbin, who has pitched for Double-A Mobile to this point, will replace Josh Collmenter in the Diamondbacks' rotation.
