Aug 1 2023The Guardians released Segura after acquiring him from the Marlins on Tuesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old and Kahlil Watson were sent to Cleveland in exchange for Josh Bell, but Segura will instead head straight to the open market. Segura has struggled at the plate with a .219/.277/.279 slash line in 326 plate appearances this season, but it's still somewhat of a surprise to see the Guardians let him go with well over $10 million left on his contract.
Jul 26 2023Segura is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will get a second straight Wednesday off while Jon Berti checks in for him at third base. While starting each of the Marlins' last four games, Segura went 3-for-15 with no runs or RBI.
Jul 19 2023Segura is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will get a breather after he went 1-for-8 with a walk and a strikeout over the first two games of the series. Jon Berti will take over at third base and bat sixth in the series finale with St. Louis.
Jul 5 2023Segura went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and a steal in Tuesday's victory over St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura now has hits in six out of seven games since returning from the IL. He's gone 8-for-26 (.308) with a home run in that span. The 33-year-old Segura is slashing .203/.273/.255 with two homers, 20 runs scored, 14 RBI and six stolen bases across 254 plate appearances this season.
Jun 30 2023Segura isn't in the Marlins' lineup Friday against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was originally slated for a day off Thursday but entered the lineup when Garrett Cooper was scratched due to illness. Now, Segura will get his day off Friday while Jon Berti covers third base and bats seventh.
Jun 29 2023Segura has been added to the lineup for Thursday's game in Boston, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was supposed to have the night off, but the Marlins need him after Yuli Gurriel (face) and Garrett Cooper (illness) both got scratched. Segura will play third base and bat fifth versus the Red Sox and right-hander Bryan Bello.
Jun 28 2023Segura went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-1 rout of the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fifth-inning blast over the Green Monster helped chase Garrett Whitlock from the game. Segura had missed the last 10 contests with a hamstring strain, but the time off seemed to do him some good -- Tuesday's homer was just his second of the season. Despite his encouraging return, the veteran infielder is slashing just .195/.262/.252 on the year in 230 plate appearances.
Jun 26 2023The Marlins reinstated Segura (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miami optioned Garrett Hampson and Jacob Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville to make room for the returns of two everyday players in Segura and Jazz Chisholm (toe), who was also brought back from the 10-day injured list. Before he was deactivated June 17 due to the left hamstring strain, Segura had been one of the majors' worst-performing regulars, as he mustered a lowly .190/.259/.234 slash line over 225 plate appearances. With the Marlins currently finding themselves atop the National League wild-card standings entering play Monday, Segura may not have a long leash on a spot in Miami's regular lineup if he continues to struggle at the plate in his return to action.
Jun 22 2023Segura (hamstring) has started running, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was placed on the injured list last week with a left hamstring strain, so it's encouraging that he is already running. Joey Wendle and Jon Berti have seen an uptick in playing time with Segura sidelined.
Jun 17 2023The Marlins placed Segura on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura sat out Friday's game against the Nationals and will now be forced to sit out another 10 days as a result of his injury. Jacob Amaya was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and figures to see a fair share of infield opportunities during Segura's absence.
Jun 16 2023Segura is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will take a seat after he went 1-for-10 with a run scored, a walk and a strikeout while starting all three games of the team's series with Seattle. Jon Berti will take over at the hot corner and bat seventh in the opener with Washington.
Jun 12 2023Segura went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His ninth-inning blast off Kendall Graveman was huge for the Marlins in a comeback win, and it was also Segura's first long ball of 2023. Miami has stuck with the struggling veteran, but so far the team's patience hasn't been rewarded -- over his last 20 games, Segura is slashing a paltry .186/.250/.271.
Jun 5 2023Segura is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will hit the bench after going 0-for-12 over his last four starts to drop his season-long batting average down to .191. Jon Berti will get the nod at third base Monday, and it wouldn't be surprising if he or Joey Wendle eventually supplanted Segura as the everyday option at the position for good.
May 27 2023Segura is out of the starting lineup against the Angels on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has not had much success in the month of May with a slash of .190/.301/.238, and he'll get a breather against Shohei Ohtani and the Angels in the middle game of the series. Jon Berti will man the hot corner and hit seventh against Ohtani and the Los Angeles pitching staff.
May 24 2023Segura is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After putting together a modest five-game hitting streak, Segura has gone hitless over his previous three contests. Jon Berti will replace Segura at third base Wednesday and will serve as the Marlins' leadoff hitter.
May 20 2023Segura will sit Saturday against San Francisco, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura owns an awful .509 OPS on the season, but he's started to show signs of life over the past week, grabbing seven hits across a five-game stretch before going hitless Friday. He'll get a rest Saturday, with Jon Berti starting at third base.
May 19 2023Segura went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hitting leadoff for the first time this season despite a weak .276 OBP, the veteran infielder drove in Xavier Edwards with a single in the third inning before stealing his third bag of the year. Segura's reached base safely in six straight games, which might help explain his elevation to the top of the order, but he's still batting only .233 (10-for-43) in May with zero homers, one stolen base, two RBI and three runs in 13 contests.
May 10 2023Segura remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will take a seat for the second day in a row as the Marlins look to give the veteran a mental reset in what's been a brutal start to the season. Entering Wednesday, Segura is slashing an abysmal .186/.233/.212 in 121 plate appearances, with his .445 OPS a career-worst mark by 170 points. Jon Berti will pick up the start at third base, and he could soon displace Segura as an everyday option at the position if the latter can't get going sometime soon.
May 9 2023Segura is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before getting ejected from Monday's series opener versus Arizona. He's batting just .186/.233/.212 through 33 games (121 plate appearances) this season with Miami. Jon Berti will handle third base and bat ninth Tuesday.
Apr 4 2023Segura went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder lined a two-out single up the middle in the second inning, then promptly swiped his first bag of the season. Segura stole 13 bases in 19 attempts last season, and the 33-year-old could be a player who benefits from MLB's rule changes to boost the running game, but first he'll need to start getting on base more frequently -- he's just 2-for-18 (.111) at the plate through the first five games of the year.
Apr 2 2023Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's contest against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will begin the series finale against New York on the bench while Jon Berti gets the hot-corner assignment and hits seventh. The 33-year-old veteran infielder has picked up one hit in his 12 plate appearances over his first three games as a member of the Marlins.
Mar 18 2023Segura went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Marlins have gotten a number of players back from the WBC in the last couple days, including Segura, and the veteran infielder quickly showed he hadn't lost any ground in his preparations during his time away from camp. Segura got the start at third base and hit leadoff, a spot in the batting order he might occupy when games begin to count as his on-base skills were a big reason why Miami signed him. The 33-year-old hasn't posted an OBP below .336 over a full season since 2015.
Dec 29 2022Manager Skip Schumaker said Thursday the Marlins plan to play Segura at third base after the team signed him to a two-year, $17 million contract, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not a surprise the 32-year-old won't be at the keystone since Miami already has Jazz Chisholm, and Segura will end up at the hot corner rather than shortstop. Segura has played in just 24 games at third base during his 11-year career, all of which came during 2020 with the Phillies. The veteran infielder had a .277/.336/.387 slash line with 10 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 98 contests last season.
Dec 28 2022Segura signed a two-year, $17 million contract with the Marlins on Wednesday, Hector Gomez of Z101Digital.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura slashed .277/.336/.387 over 387 plate appearances in 2022 for Philadelphia, though most of his value lies with his glove. Segura has almost exclusively played second base the past two years; however, the presence of Jazz Chisholm in Miami will likely move Segura over to serve as the Marlins' everyday shortstop or third baseman. Look for him to be especially productive against lefties, as he holds a .874 OPS against southpaws since 2020. (.716 vs. RHP)
Nov 7 2022The Phillies have declined Segura's $17 million team option for 2023, making him a free agent. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura played a key role in Philadelphia's postseason run, especially with his glove, but the Phillies have elected to move in a different direction in 2023. The veteran slashed .277/.336/.387 with 10 homers, 33 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 45 runs scored over 98 games in 2022.
Nov 3 2022Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Astros in Game 5 of the World Series. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura recorded his first multi-hit performance of the World Series, and his RBI single in the eighth inning brought the Phillies to within one with the tying run on third. The 32-year-old is playing in his 11th season but only his first postseason. Even with his performance Thursday night, he is hitting just .226 across 53 at bats while knocking in seven runs. Segura will look to provide another spark at the bottom of the Phillies lineup in Game 6 against projected starter Framber Valdez -- he was 1-for-2 against Valdez in the Game 2 loss.
Oct 4 2022Segura is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Many of the Phillies' regulars are getting the day off after celebrating a postseason berth Monday night. Phil Maton is starting at the keystone and hitting sixth.
Oct 3 2022Segura went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's now crossed home four times in the last two days alone after scoring just twice over the Phillies' final 11 contests of September. Segura will be taking a five-game hitting streak into Monday's game against the Astros. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in the series opener.
Sep 17 2022Segura went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's loss against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead before Atlanta would come back to win in the eighth inning. It was Segura's 10th homer of the season and his second this month. The second baseman has been on fire this month, going 13-for-43 (.302), including two multi-hit games. He has gone hitless in just three of 12 games this month. On the season, Segura is slashing .286/.343/.418.
Sep 11 2022Segura is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, according to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has not sat much since returning from the injured list in early August, but he will get a day off after making 18 straight starts. Nick Maton will cover the keystone Sunday for the Phillies.
Aug 28 2022Segura went 1-for-2 with one double, one run scored and one steal in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura tallied a double off righty reliever Chase De Jong in the fifth. In his last 12 games, the second baseman has recorded 13 hits in 39 at-bats; however, he has only two extra-base hits during that span. In addition, the 32-year-old has not struck out much in his last 10 games with only four in 30 at-bats.
Aug 25 2022Segura went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has been productive lately with a .333 average and .408 OBP over 42 at-bats in his last 12 games. The second baseman has been much better at home with a .829 OPS in 128 at-bats compared to a .669 OPS in 100 at-bats on the road. In addition, the 32-year-old has more power against lefties with a .464 slugging percentage in 69 at-bats compared to a .396 slugging percentage in 159 at-bats against right-handed pitching.
Aug 21 2022Segura is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura had been in the lineup for seven consecutive games, including both of the team's contests in a doubleheader Saturday. He hit .346 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in that span. Nick Maton will take over at second base and hit seventh.
Aug 20 2022Segura went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder needed a couple games to shake off the rust after returning from a lengthy absence earlier this month, but Segura is locked in now. Over his last 10 games, he's batting .351 (13-for-37) with five runs scored and three of his 11 stolen bases on the year.
Aug 17 2022Segura will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the lefty-hitting Bryson Stott getting the afternoon off with southpaw Nick Lodolo on the hill for the Reds and with Kyle Schwarber (calf) still out of the lineup, Segura will step into the leadoff role for the 12th time this season. Segura gets the assignment after going 3-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 11-4 win.
Aug 13 2022Segura isn't starting Saturday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura started the last four games and went 4-for-13 with a solo home run, two total runs, a stolen base, a walk and three strikeouts. Nick Maton will start at second base and bat eighth.
Aug 9 2022Segura went 2-for-3 with one homer, one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura took a Braxton Garrett slider deep to left to extend the Phillies' lead to two in the fourth inning. The second baseman has now recorded hits in his last two games, a welcome sign after he began hitless in his first two games since returning from the IL. Segura appears to have returned to form and is poised to provide a strong batting average and meaningful counting stats the rest of the way hitting in the middle of the Philadelphia lineup.
Aug 7 2022Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura started the past three games after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Thursday, and he'll take a seat for the series finale versus Washington after going 3-for-10 with a run and a stolen base. Nick Maton will man the keystone and bat ninth for the Phillies.
Aug 4 2022Segura (finger) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list by the Phillies on Thursday. He'll man second base and bat seventh in the Phillies' series opener with the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has been sidelined the past two months after undergoing surgery for a fractured right index finger, but he's been cleared to rejoin the active roster after an eight-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 32-year-old should take over the everyday role at second base while Bryson Stott handles primary duties at shortstop. Segura had a .275/.324/.407 slash line with six homers, 19 RBI and eight stolen bases in 44 games prior to suffering the injury. Didi Gregorius was released by the Phillies in a corresponding move.
Aug 2 2022Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Segura (finger) will likely be activated from the 60-day injured list Thursday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base while starting at second base Tuesday in what is expected to be his final rehab game at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Altogether, Segura batted just .192 during his seven-game rehab assignment, but more importantly, he avoided any setbacks with his surgically repaired right index finger. Expect Segura to settle back into an everyday role at second base once activated Thursday, leaving rookie Bryson Stott and veteran Didi Gregorius to vie for playing time at shortstop.
Jul 25 2022Phillies interim manager Rob Thomson said Segura (finger) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is coming along quicker than expected in his recovery from his early June surgery to repair a fractured right index finger, a procedure that was expected to keep him sidelined for 10-to-12 weeks. Though initial projections called for Segura to remain out until mid-August or early September, he now looks like he could be ready to go when first eligible to return from the 60-day injured list Aug. 2. The Phillies will wait and see how Segura looks during his rehab stint at Lehigh Valley over the next few days before re-evaluating his situation early next week.
Jul 22 2022Segura (finger) hopes to begin a rehab assignment next week, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura resumed hitting in a cage and fielding grounders last week and is close to returning to game action. It's not yet clear when the 32-year-old will report to a minor-league affiliate, but he's hoping he can rejoin the Phillies in early August following a road trip to Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
Jul 15 2022Segura (finger) is making good progress, hitting in the cage and fielding grounders, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has been on the shelf since fracturing his right index finger in late May. Throwing remains an issue for him, and he remains without a clear timetable, but it's certainly a positive to see him trending in the right direction.
Jul 5 2022Segura has had the pins removed from his broken right index finger, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is about a month removed from undergoing surgery on his broken finger, and this is the first reported sign of progress. Segura has resumed working out and was able to field some grounders Tuesday, but he still has a ways to go in his recovery and is not expected back until sometime in mid-to-late August.
Jun 14 2022The Phillies transferred Segura (finger) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura's move to the 60-day IL frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for utility man Yairo Munoz, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The transaction doesn't affect Segura's timeline for rejoining the Phillies; he was already expected to miss 10-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery earlier this month to repair a fractured right index finger.
Jun 1 2022Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday that Segura will need surgery to repair his fractured right index finger, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Segura is projected to require 10-to-12 weeks to recover from the procedure. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Philadelphia placed Segura on the 10-day injured list earlier Wednesday after it became apparent he would require surgery to address the injury he sustained in Tuesday's game against the Giants. Segura could have his procedure as soon as Friday, and the Phillies are bracing for the reality that his absence could extend into September, if the longer end of the timeline Girardi provided holds true. Nick Maton was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will start alongside Johan Camargo in the middle infield in Wednesday's series finale with San Francisco, though one of the two players will lose out on a starting role once Didi Gregorius (knee) returns from the IL as soon as this weekend.
May 31 2022Segura underwent X-rays after leaving Tuesday's game against the Giants and was diagnosed with a fractured right index finger, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura suffered the injury while attempting bunt during the seventh inning, and he was unable to finish the plate appearance. The 32-year-old will undergo a CT scan Wednesday, but it's safe to assume he'll be sidelined for at least a couple weeks. Bryson Stott and Johan Camargo should handle most of the work in the middle infield until Didi Gregorius (knee), who began a rehab assignment Tuesday, can return from the injured list.
May 30 2022Segura went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases in a 5-4 loss to the Mets on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura laced singles in the second and eighth innings and stole both second and third base following the latter. After logging only one theft in April, the 32-year-old has stolen seven bases in May to pull into a tie for 10th in MLB and is already one shy of his total from 2021. Segura's .281/.331/.419 slash line is nearly identical to his .285/.330/.410 marks for his career.
May 24 2022Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 7-3 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The steal was Segura's sixth of the year, but five of them have come in his last 11 games. The veteran infielder is slashing a blistering .357/.400/.557 through 19 games in May with four homers, 12 runs and 12 RBI in addition to his recent production on the basepaths.
May 20 2022Segura (illness) is starting at second base and batting cleanup Friday versus the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura sat out Thursday's matchup with the Padres while experiencing cold symptoms, but he'll be back on the field a day later. The 32-year-old has hit well through 15 games in May and has a .377/.431/.623 slash line with four home runs, nine RBI, 12 runs and four stolen bases.
May 19 2022Segura isn't starting Thursday against the Padres since he's experiencing cold symptoms, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is out of the lineup after drawing four consecutive starts, but it's possible he'll be available to pinch hit during Thursday's series finale. Assuming he tests negative for COVID-19, the 32-year-old should be considered day-to-day.
May 17 2022Segura went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop reached on an error in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of the opportunity and stealing second base. Segura now has five swipes on the season, four of which have come in the last five games. He also extended his hit streak to 13 consecutive games Tuesday, adding a single in the bottom of the seventh. Over that stretch, Segura has batted .417 with four homers, nine RBI, 12 runs and four stolen bases. The hot stretch has raised his season-long batting average from .227 to .307 over 114 at-bats.
May 13 2022Segura is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is riding a 10-game hitting streak, homering three times and stealing a pair of bases while slashing .457/.525/.743 over that stretch. He'll get a breather Friday as Johan Camargo takes over at second base.
May 10 2022Segura went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Monday's 9-0 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Facing the team that traded him to the Phillies ahead of the 2019 season, Segura opened the scoring in the top of the second inning by launching a solo shot off Chris Flexen to kick off the rout. Segura has gone yard in back-to-back games and reeled off four straight multi-hit performances as part of a seven-game hitting streak, boosting his slash line on the year to .293/.343/.446 with four homers, one steal, 10 RBI and 12 runs through 24 contests.
Apr 20 2022Segura will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura stepped into the leadoff role for the first time all season Tuesday, when the Rockies brought lefty Kyle Freeland to the hill. The 32-year-old went 0-for-4 with a walk in the 6-5 loss, but he'll stick atop the lineup for the second game in a row while the Phillies oppose a right-handed starter (German Marquez). A full-time leadoff job would be a boon to Segura's fantasy value, but he'll likely have a short leash in the table-setting role if he doesn't produce.
Apr 17 2022Segura (hand) will start at second base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Marlins, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will check back into the starting nine after a left hand injury kept him out of the lineup for the past three games. Bryson Stott will move back to the bench after filling in for Segura at the keystone during all three of those games.
Apr 16 2022Segura (hand) felt good after taking batting practice Saturday and thinks he could play Sunday against Miami, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura left Wednesday's game against the Mets after getting hit by a pitch in the hand and hasn't returned to action since. The fact that the Phillies have avoided placing him on the injured list suggests he could be back soon. His own optimism suggests the same, though it's worth noting he also said he believed he could play Thursday.
Apr 15 2022Segura (hand) isn't starting Friday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was hit by a pitch on his hand Wednesday, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but Bryson Stott will shift to the keystone while Johan Camargo starts at third base.
Apr 14 2022Segura (hand) will sit Thursday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura left Wednesday's game against the Mets after getting hit by a pitch in his hand. While he said after the game that he hoped to play Thursday, the Phillies evidently feel he'd be better served by a day off. He's unlikely to be available off the bench but is considered day-to-day, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Bryson Stott will get the start at second base.
Apr 13 2022Segura experienced some numbness in his hand after being hit by a pitch Wednesday against the Mets, but he felt better after leaving the game and believes he could play Thursday versus the Marlins, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The fact Segura briefly dealt with some numbness isn't a great sign, but it doesn't appear he's much the worse for wear. Still, the Phillies could hold him out of the lineup Thursday as a precaution, and the 32-year-old should be considered day-to-day.
Apr 12 2022Segura will get the day off against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies open the season with games on 13 consecutive days, so they'll look to give their regulars some rest following a shortened spring schedule. Bryson Stott will start at second base in Segura's absence.
Apr 10 2022Segura went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura's now gone deep in back-to-back games after knocking a ninth-inning blast off Lou Trivino on Sunday. Three of his four hits in the season's opening series went for extra bases. The veteran infielder reached base five times in those three games and scored three runs.
Apr 9 2022Segura went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-2 victory versus Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was one of three Phillies to go deep in the contest, as his sixth-inning solo shot accounted for the team's final run of the game. The veteran infielder belted 14 homers last season -- the most he has had totaled since the 2016 season. Segura is off to a strong start in 2022, going 3-for-7 with two extra-base hits and two runs over two games.
Oct 3 2021Segura is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will remain on the bench for the third straight game to close out the season after the Phillies were eliminated from the playoffs. Barring an appearance off the bench, he'll finish the campaign with a .290/.348/.436 slash line, 14 homers, 58 RBI, 76 runs and nine stolen bases.
Oct 2 2021Segura isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will be out of the lineup for a second straight contest since the Phillies have been eliminated from postseason contention. Ronald Torreyes will start at the keystone and bat seventh.
Oct 1 2021Segura is out of the lineup Friday against the Marlins, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will head to the bench after starting the past 23 games sine the Phillies are now eliminated from playoff contention. Ronald Torreyes will cover the keystone in his place Friday.
Sep 19 2021Segura went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura went deep off Carlos Carrasco in the first and third innings. It was his first multi-homer game this season. In his last 12 games, he has four long balls, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. The 31-year-old is slashing .299/.357/.453 with 14 home runs, 55 RBI, 74 runs and nine steals in 519 plate appearances.
Sep 16 2021Segura went 3-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored Thursday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was one of the main offensive contributors in the Phillies' 17-run offensive explosion Thursday. He did all of his damage on singles, and he has now collected multiple hits in five of his last 10 starts. In that span, he has eight RBI and nine runs scored. Overall, Segura has maintained a .298/.358/.443 line with 12 home runs, 72 runs scored and 53 RBI across 510 plate appearances on the season.
Sep 11 2021Segura went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder padded Philadelphia's lead with his fifth-inning homer. Segura has homered four times in his last 16 games to bring his total to 12 this season. He's been more of a contact hitter with a .297/.358/.445 slash line, 50 RBI, 68 runs scored and nine stolen bases across 492 plate appearances. He's added three triples and 24 doubles in 114 contests.
Sep 6 2021Segura went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 12-0 victory over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura scored a run in the first inning on Bryce Harper's two-run homer. He later crushed a grand slam as part of a seven-run eighth inning. The veteran infielder has produced multiple hits in six of his last 11 games, raising his season slash line to .295/.358/.441 with 11 long balls and 49 RBI.
Sep 5 2021Segura is out of the lineup Sunday at Miami, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura started the past 26 games at the keystone for Philadelphia and will take a seat Sunday despite having an .886 OPS in the past nine contests. Freddy Galvis will take over at second base in the series finale versus the Marlins.
Aug 29 2021Segura went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 7-0 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Odubel Herrera in the third inning against Humberto Mejia. Segura has racked up three straight multi-hit efforts during which he's also notched at least one RBI and one run, going deep twice in that stretch. That surge has pushed his slash line on the year back up to .295/.356/.443 with 10 homers, nine steals, 45 RBI and 58 runs through 101 contests.
Aug 26 2021Segura went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to Arizona on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Batting in the two-hole, Segura took advantage of a fifth-inning error to launch a two-run home run to get Philadelphia on the board. His ninth home run of the season, Segura will continue to draw starts at the top of the Phillies lineup when healthy.
Aug 25 2021Segura will start at second base and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Rays, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura slid down to the No. 2 spot in the batting order for each of the past three contests, but he'll be back in the table-setting role for the series finale with the lefty-hitting Odubel Herrera on the bench against Rays southpaw Ryan Yarbrough. Manager Joe Girardi may soon look to move Segura down further in the order if he doesn't begin to turn things around at the dish; since Aug. 12, Segura has gone 4-for-42 (.095 average) with a 5:7 BB:K.
Aug 8 2021Segura (face) will start at second base and bat second Sunday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was pulled late in Saturday's 5-3 win after being struck on the face by a pitch, but his presence in the lineup a day later suggests he avoided any major damage. The veteran infielder is slashing .268/.365/.451 with three home runs, one stolen base, 13 runs and 13 RBI in 22 games since the All-Star break.
Aug 7 2021Segura exited Saturday's game against the Mets after getting hit in the face by a pitch, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura initially stayed in the game to run the bases, as the changeup from Yennsy Diaz grazed his face and didn't appear to do significant damage. He didn't take his place in the field to start the next inning, but was instead replaced by Luke Williams as part of a double switch. Whether or not he'll miss an extended period is not yet clear.
Aug 5 2021Segura is not starting Thursday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A 2-for-4 effort Wednesday raised Segura's average to .308 with two home runs, five doubles and seven RBI in his last 10 games. Ronald Torreyes is starting at second base and batting eighth Thursday.
Aug 3 2021Segura went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Tuesday's win against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura stayed red hot by getting the scoring started with a 380-foot leadoff shot against Patrick Corbin in the first inning. The 31-year-old has now swatted at least one hit in 15 of his last 16 games, including three long balls in that span. On the season, Segura is mashing .307/.367/.456 with seven homers.
Aug 2 2021Segura went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was another top performer for Philadephia on Sunday, but the reality is that the second baseman has been seeing the ball extremely well over the last few weeks and has hit safely in all but one of his last 13 games, posting a .278/.355/.463 slash line with two homers, 10 RBI, four doubles, seven runs scored and a 6:6 BB:K in that span.
Jul 31 2021Segura (knee) is batting leadoff and playing second base Saturday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder, hitting .236 with two home runs and seven RBI 14 games since the All-Star break, returns to action after missing Friday's contest with a minor knee issue.
Jul 30 2021Segura's absence from the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates is due to a minor knee issue, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is merely considered day-to-day, so it's possible he's back in the lineup as soon as Saturday. Ronald Torreyes started at second base in his absence.
Jul 26 2021Segura went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-5 win over Washington. He was also hit by a pitch. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder worked a double-steal with J.T. Realmuto in the first inning. Segura also sparked Philadelphia's ninth-inning rally with a leadoff double before scoring on Andrew McCutchen's walkoff home run. Through 310 plate appearances, Segura is slashing .312/.366/.454 with seven stolen bases, six home runs, 33 RBI and 38 runs scored.
Jul 25 2021Segura went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and three strikeouts in Sunday's 2-1 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura's three strikeouts Sunday matched his highest total of the season, but he put the Phillies on the board with his solo homer in the fourth inning. The 31-year-old has displayed impressive power across his last five games, as he's gone 6-for-23 with two homers, a double, five RBI and a walk.
Jul 21 2021Segura went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura led off the game by slugging his fifth home run of the season. It was his second homer in his last eight games, though prior to this stretch he had gone 29 games without a long ball. Even so, he's found other ways to be productive this season, most notably by maintaining a .312/.367/.446 line and also by chipping in six steals across 287 plate appearances.
Jul 6 2021Segura went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and four runs scored in Tuesday's 15-10 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The second baseman played the table-setter role quite well Tuesday, and he was brought home each time he got on base. Segura added a two-RBI single in the seventh inning. He's gone 9-for-28 (.321) in seven games since he returned from a groin injury. The 31-year-old is slashing a strong .330/.383/.456 in 235 plate appearances, but he's added only three home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and six stolen bases.
Jul 1 2021Segura is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is likely just getting some routine maintenance for the series finale after he returned from the injured list Tuesday and started both of the Phillies' past two games. Nick Maton will step in at second base in place of Segura, who went 1-for-7 with a walk, a run and an RBI in his first two games back from the IL.
Jun 29 2021The Phillies will activate Segura (groin) from the 10-day injured list before Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Segura return for Tuesday's series opener after missing nearly two weeks with a Grade 1 strain to his left groin. The infielder was on an absolute tear before the injury, hitting .373 with four doubles, a triple and eight RBI in his last 12 games. Now that he's healthy once again, Segura figures to slot in as Philadelphia's everyday second baseman, relegating Brad Miller to a backup role. The Phillies have yet to announce a corresponding roster move.
Jun 28 2021The Phillies hope to activate Segura (groin) ahead of Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has been dealing with a Grade 1 strain to his left groin since June 16, and he initially carried a recovery timetable of approximately three weeks. However, he's apparently ahead of schedule and is expected to return Tuesday as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks Monday. The 31-year-old should reclaim his role as the primary second baseman once he's officially reinstated from the injured list.
Jun 16 2021Segura (groin) is nursing a Grade 1 strain to his left groin and may miss as many as three weeks, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura's absence was already a big blow to the Phillies, but confirmation he'll likely miss a few weeks is especially crushing. Nick Maton, Brad Miller and Luke Williams will be tasked with filling in at second base while Segura recovers.
Jun 12 2021Segura went 3-for-6 with two RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura extended the Phillies' lead to 5-2 with an RBI single off Nestor Cortes in the fourth inning. After the bullpen stumbled to allow the Yankees to force extra innings, Segura was able to deliver his second walk-off hit in the past three games with a run-scoring infield single in the 10th inning. Segura has enjoyed a resurgent campaign through 46 games played this season, posting a .329/.381/.457 slash line across 189 plate appearances.
Jun 10 2021Segura went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a double Thursday against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has collected at least one hit in six of his last eight games. He entered the contest having driven in only one run in that span, though he delivered a two-RBI walk-off single in the 10th inning Thursday. For the season, Segura is hitting .323/.377/.455 with 22 runs scored and 16 RBI across 183 plate appearances.
Jun 6 2021Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After making six straight starts at second base, Segura will cede the position to Brad Miller on Sunday in what likely amounts to a routine maintenance day for the former. Segura has made his biggest fantasy impact with his legs over the past two weeks, going 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts.
Jun 4 2021Segura went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 2-1 loss to Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old led off the fourth inning with a single, stole second and scored on J.T. Realmuto's RBI single. Segura has found a groove lately -- he's on a five-game hitting streak, going 7-for-20 (.350) with four stolen bases and five runs scored in that span. For the season, the infielder is slashing .320/.364/.451 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 21 runs scored and six steals.
May 27 2021Segura will sit Thursday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura is doing everything he can to keep the Phillies' offense afloat through absences for Bryce Harper (forearm), J.T. Realmuto (hand) and Didi Gregorius (elbow), as his .826 OPS represents the second-best mark of his 10-year career. He'll get a rest on getaway day, with Brad Miller starting at second base.
May 24 2021Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a stolen base, a double and a run scored Monday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura delivered an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to close the gap, but Miami would hang on for the 9-6 victory. He's in the midst of a modest four-game hitting streak, collecting two extra-base hits, three RBI and two walks over that brief stretch. Segura is slashing .331/.373/.484 through 33 contests in 2021.
May 21 2021Segura went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's loss against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura launched his third long ball of the season off Martin Perez, and the star second baseman has reached base at least twice in three of his last five appearances. He's hit safely in five of his last seven contests and has hit .320 across 53 at-bats this month.
May 20 2021Segura is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will take a seat for the first time since he was activated from the 10-day injured list May 7. In his first 11 games back from a strained right quadriceps, Segura has slashed .292/.333/.438 with a home run, five runs and four RBI. Brad Miller will fill in for him at second base.
May 8 2021Segura went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-7 loss to Atlanta Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura homered in the first before singling in the fifth and seventh and being removed in a double switch. He's gone 7-for-9 in two games since returning from injury and his .391 average would lead MLB if he qualified.
May 7 2021Segura (quadriceps) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura missed over two weeks with a strained right quadriceps. He'd gotten off to a hot start prior to the injury, hitting .333/.359/.450 through 17 games. He should return to his regular role at second base, pushing Nick Maton to the bench. Mickey Moniak was optioned in a corresponding move.
May 6 2021Segura (quadriceps) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura started a rehab assignment Tuesday but should return to the Phillies' lineup for Friday's series opener against Atlanta. Segura missed just over two weeks due to his right quadriceps strain but hit .333 with a home run and five RBI in 17 games to begin the season.
May 4 2021Segura (quadriceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura has missed two weeks with a strained right quadriceps, but it doesn't look as though he's set to miss too much more time. The Phillies haven't provided an exact timeline for his return, but he shouldn't need very many rehab games to get back in shape following a relatively brief absence.
May 3 2021Segura (quadriceps) will embark on a rehab assignment this week, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not clear exactly when the assignment will begin or how long it will last, but Segura should be back from his strained right quadriceps before too long. He was hitting .333/.359/.450 through 17 games prior to the injury.
Apr 21 2021Segura was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right quadriceps strain, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura exited Tuesday's game against San Francisco due to the injury and underwent an MRI on Wednesday. The 31-year-old will be eligible to return from the injured list as early as May 1, but it's not clear whether he'll be healthy enough to do so. Brad Miller will start at second base against the Giants on Wednesday, while Scott Kingery was recalled in a corresponding move.
Apr 20 2021Segura exited Tuesday's game against the Giants with a strained right quadriceps, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old was pulled from Tuesday's contest after receiving a visit from the athletic trainer following his groundout to close the third inning. According to Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Segura will undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the severity injury, so he'll likely be unavailable for the series finale versus the Giants.
Apr 14 2021Segura went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took David Peterson deep in the fifth inning to give Segura his first homer of the year, ruining the Mets' shutout bid. The veteran infielder has a six-game hit streak going, pushing his batting average through 12 games up to .295 (13-for-44).
Feb 10 2021Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday that Segura will enter spring training as the team's primary second baseman, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Girardi's comments suggest that Segura likely won't have to battle for a full-time role, as the Phillies instead plan to have his presumed top challenger, Scott Kingery, vie for playing time at other positions. Segura ended up seeing most of his action at the keystone in 2020, but since he made 24 appearances (21 starts) at third base, he should have dual eligibility in most fantasy leagues entering 2021.
Sep 23 2020Segura went 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI during Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old didn't have any extra-base hits Wednesday, but he came through with a two-run single with the bases loaded during the eighth inning. Segura is 11-for-27 in his last eight games and has a .272/.358/.439 slash line with seven homers, 28 runs and 25 RBI through 51 games this season.
Sep 22 2020Segura went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-1 loss to the Nationals during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He then went 1-for-3 with a walk in the nightcap. While Segura's .269 batting average and two steals through 50 games might seem disappointing, the 30-year-old's .357 OBP and .440 SLG would be his highest marks since 2016, and his seven homers, 23 RBI and 27 runs have provided solid fantasy value.
Sep 19 2020Segura (triceps) is back in the lineup as expected Saturday against Toronto, batting third and playing third base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was struck by a pitch in the triceps Thursday against the Mets and didn't appear in Friday's contest, though the injury was never expected to keep him out too long. He's gone 6-for-6 in his last two games and will look to stay hot in this one.
Sep 18 2020Segura (triceps) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura sat out both games of Friday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays after being hit by a pitch Thursday. However, he's expected to return to action as the series against Toronto continues Saturday.
Sep 17 2020Segura (triceps) is unlikely to be available for either of Friday's games against the Blue Jays, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was drilled by a pitch Thursday evening against the Mets, and it appears the injury is significant enough to keep him out of Friday's doubleheader. With Scott Kingery (undisclosed) also banged up, there's a good chance Phil Gosselin will get a chance to fill in at second base.
Sep 7 2020Segura went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two runs scored Monday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura delivered two big hits in the contest, the first coming on a bases loaded double in the opening inning. He followed that up with a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the 10th frame, his fifth long ball of the season. Overall, Segura is now hitting .261/.348/.429 with 19 runs scored and 17 RBI across 136 plate appearances this season.
Aug 31 2020Segura went 1-for-4 with a three-run double in Monday's 8-6 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 5-0 lead. He's collected 10 hits and eight RBI during his active six-game hitting streak.
Aug 30 2020Segura went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in Sunday's 12-10 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura got aboard with a single in the third inning and came around to score on a Didi Gregorius triple. In the fourth, Segura's single plated Rhys Hoskins. The 30-year-old Segura is batting .256/.337/.411 with four homers, nine RBI, 14 runs scored and a stolen base through 25 games.
Aug 29 2020Segura went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 7-4 win over the Braves on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura imitated Andrew McCutchen's two-run shot in the third inning with one of his own the following inning to extend the lead to 4-1. It was his first home run since Aug. 15 and his fourth on the year as he upped his RBI total to eight on the season. Segura still has a .235/.326/.407 slash line despite hitting safely in 12 of his last 14 games.
Aug 25 2020Segura went 3-for-5 with two RBI during Tuesday's win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder was 0-for-8 over his past two games, and the three hits Tuesday represent his first multi-hit game since Aug. 11. Segura has a .233/.333/.384 slash line with three homers, six RBI and one stolen base in 21 games.
Aug 20 2020Segura is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura returned from a two-game absence for the first half of Thursday's doubleheader, going 1-for-3 in the loss. He'll sit in favor of Neil Walker in Game 2 as the Phillies ease him back into action.
Aug 19 2020Segura (hamstring) will likely return to action Thursday against the Blue Jays, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was held out of the Phillies' lineup while dealing with a hamstring issue over the past two games, but manager Joe Girardi said that he should be ready to return for Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old is slashing .222/.344/.426 with three home runs and four RBI this season.
Aug 18 2020Segura (hamstring) isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will miss the series opener against the Red Sox after he was forced to exit Sunday's contest due to a hamstring injury. Scott Kingery will take over at second base in Segura's absence.
Aug 16 2020Segura was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Mets due to a hamstring injury, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The exact nature of the injury is not yet clear, but Segura will get at least one day to rest regardless of how serious it is with the Phillies scheduled for an off day Monday. Neil Walker entered the game in his place and would likely serve as the primary second baseman if he's forced to miss time.
Aug 15 2020Segura went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His second-inning shot off Steven Matz was the game's only run until the Phillies broke it open in the fifth. Segura now has three homers on the year, all of them coming in the last week, but his .220 batting average through 15 contests remains well below his usual standards.
Aug 11 2020Segura went 1-for-4 with a walk, home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura hit a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning, giving the Phillies a 6-5 lead. It was his second home run of the season, and second in as many games. Segura has yet to really get going at the plate, as he's hitting just .194/.341/.361 in 44 plate appearances this season. Still he's chipped in eight runs scored and a stolen base, so he has found ways to be productive.
Aug 6 2020Segura is not starting Thursday against the Yankees, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura will sit for the first time all season as Neil Walker picks up a start at third base in his stead. Through six games this season, Segura is 4-for-22 with four runs scored.
Jul 24 2020Segura (hand) will bat sixth and play third base in Friday's season opener against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There was at least some minor concern regarding Segura's readiness late in camp after he was hit by a pitch and left Monday's exhibition game against the Yankees. He's evidently been cleared to play and should fill close to an everyday role at the start of the season, though he'll need to hit better than his .280/.323/.420 slash line (good for just a 92 wRC+) from his Phillies' debut last year if he's to remain an everyday player now that the arrival of Didi Gregorius has bumped him to third base. Highly rated prospect Alec Bohm stands ready to claim at-bats at an infield corner at some point this season, which could force Segura to compete for time elsewhere.
Jul 20 2020The Phillies believe Segura is ok after being hit on the left hand by a fastball during Monday's exhibition game against the Yankees, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Philadelphia's X-ray technician was not at Yankee Stadium on Monday, so no images were taken. Segura may receive more tests Tuesday that will provide a clearer timetable for his return. The 30-year-old is expected to serve as the Phillies' primary third baseman this season after Didi Gregorius was acquired to play shortstop. If Segura is forced to miss time early on, Neil Walker would likely experience increased playing time.
Mar 7 2020Segura (illness) is in the lineup for Saturday's spring game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura missed the last couple days as a result of his illness, but he is ready to get back on the field. He'll man the hot corner and hit second Saturday.
Mar 5 2020Segura was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays due to an illness, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies don't believe Segura's illness is anything significant, so he'll presumably re-enter the lineup within the next few days. Alec Bohm will step in for Segura at third base, the position the 29-year-old is expected to play on a full-time basis in 2020.
Feb 23 2020Segura played at third base for the first time in his career Sunday against the Pirates, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was tested often Sunday as seven balls headed in his direction. He made a majority of the plays but misplayed a couple of groundballs -- one of which resulted in a run-scoring single. After the contest, Segura said he was rushing a bit but is confident that he will get used to the new position.
Feb 17 2020Segura is expected to start at third base this season provided he looks good there this spring, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura's minus-4 Outs Above Average easily beat new signee Didi Gregorius' minus-13 mark, but Gregorius appears to have been handed the starting shortstop job without a competition. That leaves Segura and Scott Kingery to split second and third base in some combination, and the feeling around Phillies camp according to Lauber is that the team strongly prefers Segura at third. The arrangement could shift at some point early this season if Alec Bohm impresses in the minors and claims the big-league third base job.
Feb 11 2020Segura projects to open the year at second base after the Phillies signed Didi Gregorius in the offseason. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura does have experience at the keystone, having played 142 games at second base for Arizona in 2016. It only makes sense for him to shift to the other middle-infield position with Gregorius' arrival, with Scott Kingery slotting in at third, though Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia said back in December that the Phillies will "consider all options in spring training." Segura was below league average by wRC+ in 2019 and his running waned, but assuming he does secure full-time at-bats in spring training, Segura should gain multi-position eligibility early on in 2020.
Sep 29 2019Segura (ankle) is not in Sunday's lineup against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will end up missing the final three games of the regular season with the ankle injury but is expected to have a normal offseason. Sean Rodriguez is starting at shortstop and batting eighth.
Sep 28 2019Segura (ankle) will sit again Saturday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura hits the bench for the second straight game after leaving Thursday's contest with a sprained ankle. It's possible that he's already played his final game of the year. Sean Rodriguez starts at shortstop Saturday.
Sep 27 2019Segura (ankle) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura sustained the right ankle sprain during Thursday's game against the Nationals, so it's no surprise to see him withheld from Friday's starting nine. The 29-year-old seems like a decent bet to be done for the season with only a couple games left on the schedule and the Phillies out of playoff contention. Scott Kingery will start at shortstop in the series opener while Maikel Franco takes over at the hot corner.
Sep 26 2019Segura was removed from Thursday's game against the Nationals with a right ankle sprain, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura went 1-for-2 before exiting with the injury prior to the bottom of the fifth inning. With just three games left in the season and the Phillies out of playoff contention, Segura could be done for the year. Sean Rodriguez entered the game in his place.
Sep 21 2019Segura (hamstring) is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Indians, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura appeared set to return Friday after leaving Thursday's game with a hamstring cramp, but he didn't feel quite right in batting practice and the Phillies decided to scratch him from the lineup. Thankfully, it seems the one extra day was sufficient. Segura is batting sixth for Philadelphia with Jay Bruce slotting ahead of him at DH in an American League park.
Sep 20 2019Segura was scratched from Friday's starting lineup against the Indians due to an ankle injury, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura was initially listed in the starting lineup, but after going through batting practice, he's been scratched. Scott Kingery will move over to shortstop and Maikel Franco is set to man third.
Sep 19 2019Segura, who left Thursday's game in the sixth inning, suffered a left hamstring cramp and will be sent for more tests, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Thiis could end up just being a minor cramp with Segura being day-to-day, but additional tests could also reveal something serious enough to end his season. He suffered the injury running to first base on an RBI single. Scott Kingery would be the most logical fill-in shortstop.
Sep 12 2019Segura went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura extended the Phillies lead with a two-run homer off Julio Teheran in the third inning. The 29-year-old shortstop now has 12 home runs, nine stolen bases and a team-best batting average of .284.
Sep 4 2019Segura (personal) is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura had been out of the lineup since Sunday for personal reasons. He didn't start Tuesday but wound up playing the majority of the game off the bench. He'll be involved from the start of the game Wednesday, batting fifth and playing shortstop.
Sep 3 2019Segura (personal) is on his way to Cincinnati and should be available off the bench Tuesday against the Reds, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Segura flew to the Dominican Republic following the passing of his grandmother, and while he's not in Tuesday's starting nine, he'll likely arrive to the ballpark in time to be available if needed.
Sep 2 2019Segura (personal) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Sep 1 2019Segura was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets after receiving news regarding the death of his grandmother, Bob Brookover of The Philadelphia Inquirer

Jul 7 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Rockies.Segura launched a home run in the fifth inning off left-hander Kyle Freeland, his seventh of the season. It was his first home run and only fourth extra-base hit since June 15. Still, Segura has maintained an excellent .333 batting average and also ranks among the top-10 in the American League in runs scored and stolen bases.
Jun 30 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Royals on Friday. The 28-year-old now has three multi-hit efforts over the last four games, just the latest stretch of offensive success for a player who boasts a career-best .338/.366/.479 line over 342 plate appearances. Segura has now also matched his RBI total from last season, but he's accomplished the feat in 223 fewer opportunities. Given Dee Gordon's success as a leadoff man in front of him in the order, Segura figures to continue enjoying a fair share of run-producing opportunities out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup while also getting on base himself at an above-average clip.
Jun 28 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and three runs in an extra-innings win over the Orioles on Wednesday.Segura cashed in on all three occasions in which he was on base, including in the 11th inning, when he crossed the plate with what turned out to be the winning run. There seems to be no stopping the hot-hitting shortstop, who's returned from a four-game absence due to a forearm infection to go 5-for-12 with Wednesday's pair of doubles, three walks and four runs over the subsequent three contests.
Jun 26 2018Segura returned from a four-game absence due to a forearm infection Monday and drew a pair of walks over five plate appearances. He has 32 multi-hit efforts in 2018 and leads the majors with 14 three-plus-hit games, Jeff Seidel of MLB.com reports.Segura couldn't add to his tally Monday, but he boasts 20 multi-hit efforts in his last 38 games alone. The star shortstop was deemed ready to go by manager Scott Servais after breezing through his pregame work without any issues Monday, with his return naturally a welcome sight considering the pivotal role he plays near the top of the order. Segura's current .331 average is a career best, while both his .359 on-base percentage and .475 slugging percentage are the second-best figures of his career.
Jun 26 2018Segura went 3-for-4 with a run scored and was caught stealing during Tuesday's 3-2 win over in Baltimore.Segura put forth yet another multi-hit effort Tuesday, his major-league leading 33rd such performance this season. The 28-year-old has a .337/.364/.479 slash line with six home runs, 53 runs and 44 RBI in 303 at-bats in 2018.
Jun 25 2018Segura (forearm) is back in the lineup Monday against the Orioles, playing shortstop and batting second, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Segura had missed four straight games while battling a forearm infection. He was having a very strong season prior to the injury, hitting .334/.359/.480 with six homers and 14 steals in 71 games.
Jun 24 2018Segura (forearm) who logged a fourth straight absence in Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox, made throws to first base during pregame infield work and is expected back in the lineup Monday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Manager Scott Servais had deemed Segura available for a pinch-hit role if necessary in Sunday's game, something that never came to fruition but that serves as corroboration of how close the shortstop is to returning. Segura progressed from flipping the ball underhand to a teammate after taking grounders before Saturday's game to throwing across the diamond Sunday, which was seemingly the final piece of the puzzle in his recovery from the infection that's been ailing him. Final confirmation of Segura's status should come in the hours before the Mariners' series opener against the Orioles on Monday.
Jun 24 2018Segura (forearm) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Make it four straight absences for Segura, who is battling an infection in his right forearm. While he remains day-to-day, a trip to the disabled list will be on the table if the infection doesn't clear up in the coming days. Andrew Romine once again gets the nod at shortstop.
Jun 23 2018Segura is not in the lineup against the Red Sox on Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura will miss a third consecutive game while he recovers from an infection in his right forearm. In his place, Andrew Romine will start at shortstop and bat ninth.
Jun 22 2018Segura (forearm) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.Segura will hit the bench for the second straight day as he continues to deal with an infection in his right forearm. The infection apparently stems from a small cut, and his availability for the rest of the series in Boston remains day-to-day for now.
Jun 21 2018Segura is out of the lineup against the Yankees on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Segura will hit the bench for a rare day off after starting the past 21 games. Over that span, he's slashed .361/.402/.518 with two home runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases. Andrew Romine will make a start at shortstop in his stead. Expect Segura back in the starting nine for Friday's series opener in Boston.
Jun 21 2018Segura is not in Thursday's lineup due to an infection in his right forearm, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The Mariners' trainers didn't want Segura on the field during Thursday's game since his forearm is fairly swollen from the infection that stemmed from a small cut. Segura is listed as day-to-day ahead of Friday's game against the Red Sox.
Jun 16 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Seattle's 7-6 victory over Boston on Friday.Segura only had five home runs on the season coming into this contest, but the 28-year-old shortstop showed he's still got some pop with this first-inning blast off Rick Porcello. It was nice to see him leave the yard, but the relatively low home run total hadn't really been detracting from Segura's fantasy value at all. He's been on what seems like a season-long tear, to the tune of a brilliant .344 batting average, a .493 slugging percentage and 14 stolen bases.
Jun 12 2018Segura went 3-for-4 with a run in a win over the Angels on Monday.Segura has made lines like this the norm in what has been a stellar season thus far. Monday's multi-hit effort served as his fifth over the first 10 games of June, and the 28-year-old's .343 season average is second only to Mookie Betts in the majors while also serving as a career-best figure. He's now hit safely in six of his last seven contests, a stretch that helped lead to a .366 average overall for the month.
Jun 8 2018Segura went 1-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Friday's win over the Rays.Segura swiped his 14th base of the year -- which is tied for fifth in the majors -- but he was also caught stealing and picked off in the game. Segura has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 13 games, and is now hitting .340 with 47 runs scored (both of which lead all MLB shortstops).
Jun 7 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with an RBI single, a stolen base and a run in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday. As good as he's been offensively over the previous two seasons in particular, Segura is seemingly on another level in 2018. Wednesday's multi-hit effort -- his second consecutive and sixth over the last nine games -- brought his season line to an impressive .339/.358/.486, with the first two figures qualifying as team bests. Moreover, his 39 RBI place him second behind only Mitch Haniger on the Mariners, and they're also just six shy of the total he amassed last season in 302 additional plate appearances. Segura is even improved in his proficiency on the basepaths, as his current 81.3 percent stolen-base success rate represents an eight-point improvement over last season's total.
Jun 5 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Astros.A day after seeing an eight-game hitting streak come to an end, Segura wasted no time getting back in the hit column with a single in the first inning before adding his fifth homer. The 28-year-old is slashing .333/.353/.483 and will continue to be among the league's leaders in runs scored and steals.
May 31 2018Segura went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and a walk to help pace the Mariners to a 6-1 victory over the Rangers on Thursday.Segura just can't stop hitting, as this marked his fifth multi-hit effort in his last six games - a torrid stretch that has brought his average up to a blistering .339 on the season. He only has four home runs over his 224 at-bats, but that's nitpicking when taking into account how fantastic the rest of his numbers are, and his slugging percentage is a robust .487, so it's not like he's only hitting singles. He's also swiped 12 bases to round off what has been a superb fantasy campaign so far for the 28-year-old shortstop.
May 30 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.Segura missed a pair of games after getting kicked in the head Saturday, but he picked up right where he left off. The three-hit day was his third in the last four games, running his average to .330 on the season and .365 in May. As long as he's healthy and getting on base, the 28-year-old figures to remain among the league leaders in runs scored and steals.
May 29 2018Segura (head) is starting at shortstop and hitting leadoff Tuesday against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. As expected, Segura is back in action after being withheld from Monday's lineup due to precautionary reasons. The 28-year-old, who is hitting an impressive .324/.341/.465 through 50 games this season, will face righty Austin Bibens-Dirkx in his return to action.
May 28 2018Segura (head) was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Rangers.Segura was originally in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener, but he was replaced by Andrew Romine at shortstop after failing to gain clearance from team doctors following a pregame workout. He'll likely be reevaluated prior to Tuesday's game to determine his availability.
May 28 2018Segura (head) is expected to play Tuesday against the Rangers, TJ Cotterill of The News Tribune reports.Segura was a late scratch from Monday's lineup, but he didn't suffer a setback. Manager Scott Servais stated he was being conservative by keeping Segura out of the lineup, and that he should be good to go for Tuesday's matchup.
May 28 2018Segura could be scratched from Monday's lineup against the Rays, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura, who missed Sunday's game with a head injury, is tentatively penciled into the starting lineup Monday, but he still has to meet with doctors before being cleared to play. If Segura is forced to sit out another game, Andrew Romine would likely enter the lineup in his place.
May 28 2018Segura (head) is starting at shortstop and hitting leadoff Monday against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Segura exited Saturday's game against the Twins after getting accidentally kicked in the head. Fortunately, it was determined afterwards that the shortstop didn't suffer a concussion and wouldn't require a stay on the disabled list. He apparently checked out OK following a workout Monday morning, so Segura will rejoin the starting lineup after missing just one game. The 28-year-old is hitting an impressive .324/.341/.456 with four homers and 12 stolen bases in 50 games this season, and he'll look to keep things rolling against righty Doug Fister in his return to action.
May 27 2018Segura (head) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. As expected, Segura, who departed Saturday's game in the eighth inning when he was inadvertently kicked in the head while manning the field, underwent a test for a concussion Sunday morning. According to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, Segura said he has to take and pass another test later Sunday before gaining clearance from the protocol, so the Mariners should soon have clarity regarding whether or not he has a concussion. If he is diagnosed with a concussion, Segura would then be placed on the 7-day disabled list, with Triple-A Tacoma infielder Zach Vincej prepared to assume Segura's spot on the 25-man roster, per Divish.
May 27 2018Segura (head) won't be moved to the disabled list and is set to workout Monday with the potential to be in the starting lineup, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Segura exited Saturday's game after being accidentally kicked in the head, and upon further evaluation, he didn't suffer a concussion. This is good news for the Mariners, as Segura won't need to hit the disabled list, and he'll likely be back on the field within the next few days.
May 27 2018Mariners manager Scott Servais said Saturday after Seattle's 4-3 victory over Minnesota that he expects Segura (head) to enter the MLB's concussion protocol, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Segura departed in the bottom of the eighth inning after he was inadvertently kicked in the head in the field while completing a double-play relay throw to first base. The shortstop was enjoying a productive night prior to departing with three hits and his fourth home run of the season, but it sounds like he could miss at least a couple of days due to the head injury. Segura is slated to undergo concussion tests Sunday, so expect the Mariners to provide an official ruling on his diagnosis shortly before the series finale begins at 4:10 p.m. EDT.
May 26 2018Segura left Saturday's game against the Twins after taking a foot to the helmet during a slide into second base in the bottom of the eighth inning, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Considering it was a 3-3 tie at the time of the injury, it certainly seems like Segura may need to go into the concussion protocol, as he likely would not have left at that stage in the game due to a contusion or something else minor. He was 3-for-4 with a home run prior to exiting. Gordon Beckham came in to play second base and Austin Romine moved over to shortstop. Segura should be considered highly questionable for Sunday's game.
May 24 2018Segura went 3-for-4 with a run scored Thursday against the Athletics. After going hitless on Wednesday night, Segura bounced back Thursday with three singles. The depleted Mariners' lineup could only bring him around to score once, though he has now scored eight runs in his past ten games. His hot start to the season has continued, and he remains among the American League leaders in stolen bases, runs scored and batting average.
May 23 2018Segura went 1-for-5 and scored the go-ahead run in an extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday.Segura capped off an eventful night for the Mariners by hustling home all the way from first base on a Guillermo Heredia double in the visitors' half of the 10th. The shortstop was able to beat a relay throw and slide through Jonathan Lucroy, jamming his left shoulder on the backstop's leg in the process. Segura laid briefly behind home plate after the play was checked out by a trainer before returning to the dugout and then taking the field for the bottom half of the frame. Factoring in Tuesday's production, the talented shortstop boasts a five-game hitting streak and a .337 average during May.
May 21 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with a game-winning RBI single in an extra-innings victory over the Tigers on Sunday. He was also caught stealing on his only attempt.Segura laced a hit to right field with none out in the 11th inning that plated Dee Gordon, sending the Mariners home winners. The 28-year-old seems to only be heating up as the season unfolds, as he's now hitting .346 in May following his eighth multi-hit effort in the last 11 games Sunday.
May 19 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with a home run, triple, three RBI and one run scored Saturday against the Tigers.Segura connected on his third home run of the season in the first inning off Mike Fiers. He tripled in his next at-bat to record his seventh multi-hit game in his past 10 starts. The home run was his first since April 28, but he has been a strong producer otherwise, ranking among the American League leaders in batting average, runs scored, RBI and stolen bases.
May 19 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a win over the Tigers on Friday. The hot-hitting shortstop's seventh-inning single drew the Mariners even at 4-4 after they'd opened the inning with a four-run deficit. As impressive as Segura's April was (.311/.339/.472), he's outdoing himself to an extent in May, as his monthly average now sits at .333 following his eight multihit effort over the last 16 games Friday. The sole blemish is that he's yet to go deep since the calendar flipped to May, but he sports an impressive 29 RBI on the season, second only to Mitch Haniger on the team.
May 16 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, an RBI and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.Segura had a field day on the bases, and quickly jumped to the No. 4 spot in the majors with his 11 stolen bases. This was also Segura's third consecutive multi-hit game, raising his batting average to .316 on the year. Among MLB shortstops, the 28-year-old is in the top five in RBI and runs scored.
May 14 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with a two-run single and two stolen bases in a loss to the Tigers on Sunday.Segura knotted the game at 4-4 in the eighth with a clutch hit to center that plated Ryon Healy and Ben Gamel. The hot-hitting shortstop has been knocking the cover off the ball recently, going 9-for-20 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs in three of the last four games, pushing his May average to .306 in the process.
May 12 2018Segura is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers.Segura, who was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Game 1, will receive a rare game off Saturday night. Andrew Romine will bat ninth and start at shortstop for Seattle.
May 11 2018Segura went 4-for-6 with a double and two runs in a win over the Blue Jays on Thursday.Dee Gordon was given the night off to rest a sore toe, pushing Segura into the leadoff spot. He turned in a performance befitting of the role, setting the table throughout the night in the blowout win. The hot-hitting shortstop boosted his average a whopping 45 points over the last two games of the series against the Blue Jays, going 7-for-11 with a pair of two-baggers, an RBI and three runs.
May 10 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and a run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday. The shortstop had gone 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts in his start Tuesday following an early exit from Sunday's game due to a headache, so the three-hit performance was a particularly welcome sight. Segura already has a trio of multi-hit efforts in May, but his 20-homer season with the Diamondbacks in 2016 increasingly appears to have been an outlier. After hitting a modest 11 round trippers over 565 plate appearances in his debut Mariners season in 2017, Segura has just two home runs over 158 plate appearances this season, while his ISO sits at an uninspiring .128.
May 8 2018Segura (head) is starting at shortstop and hitting second Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.Segura won't be forced to miss any further action after exiting Sunday's game early with a headache. The 28-year-old will look to continue his solid start to the season, as he's hitting .290/.315/.420 with a pair of homers and five swiped bags in 33 games. He'll matchup against Marcus Stroman in this one.
May 6 2018Segura, who went 3-for-6 with a run in an extra-innings win over the Angels on Saturday, is 14-for-42 with two doubles and 10 RBI over his last 10 games.Segura is slashing .299/.324/.433 across 144 plate appearances overall, while already driving in 24 runs. The shortstop is currently sporting his best strikeout rate (13.9 percent) since 2014, and he's once again punishing left-handed pitching in particular (.333 average, .444 slugging over 36 at-bats). The 1-2 punch of Dee Gordon and Segura at the top of the order has proven to be a highly potent one for the Mariners, and Gordon's career-high .373 OBP has certainly been a boon for Segura's RBI opportunities.
May 3 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in a loss to the Athletics on Wednesday.Segura notched his 24th RBI of the season, a third of which have come in the last four games alone. The 28-year-old couldn't come through in the ninth, however, as his groundout to third with the bases juiced ended the game. Despite coming up short, Segura is still hitting an eye-popping .471 over his 38 plate appearances with men in scoring position.
May 2 2018Segura went 0-for-3 with two RBI from a sacrifice fly and a groundout in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday. He also walked once and scored a run. While he didn't manage to hit safely, Segura still contributed a third of the Mariners' run total on the night. It's an extension of a multi-game RBI barrage for the shortstop, one that's seen him drive in 16 of his 23 runs on the season since April 24.
Apr 28 2018Segura went 3-for-4 with a home run, stolen base, four RBI and three runs scored Saturday against the Indians.Segura was productive across all parts of the box score Saturday, a common occurrence for him throughout the early portion of the season. He has taken advantage of consistently batting second, a beneficial position that should only increase his counting stat upside as the middle of the Mariners' lineup heats up. Though his hot start has not translated to many home runs, his 12 extra-base hits indicate that he is hitting the ball well and is a positive sign for his future production.
Apr 26 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI single, a stolen base and a run in a win over the White Sox on Wednesday.Segura continues to do plenty of damage out of the two-hole, as he's now hit safely in six of his last seven games. The hot-hitting shortstop has racked up four doubles and eight RBI during that stretch, pushing his April line to an impressive .303/.330/.449 over 94 plate appearances.
Apr 23 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and two runs in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.Segura's timely hit in the fifth brought home Ben Gamel and opened the scoring on the afternoon for the Mariners. The hot-hitting infielder operated out of the leadoff spot with Dee Gordon getting the day off for rest and generated his ninth multi-hit game of April in the process. Segura has also been particularly timely with his hits recently, as he's compiled six of his 13 RBI on the season over his last four games.
Apr 21 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in Friday's 6-2 win over the Rangers. The steals were only his second and third of the year, but otherwise Segura has had a quick start to 2018, slashing .303/.329/.447 with a homer, 10 RBI and 12 runs in 18 games. Dee Gordon is enjoying a similarly fast start, and the duo should continue to put plenty of pressure on opposition pitching staffs as the season progresses -- and provide plenty of RBI opportunities for Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz.
Apr 14 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and one run scored Saturday against the Athletics.Segura continues to swing an incredibly hot bat as his multi-hit game Saturday was already his seventh of the season. He's only attempted one stolen base, the only notable concern to his profile. However, he has batted second exclusively to begin the season, and if that continues his stolen base attempts should tick up.
Apr 10 2018Segura went 3-for-5 with one double, one triple, two runs scored and two RBI Tuesday against the Royals.Segura continued his excellent start to the 2018 campaign, recording his fifth multi-hit game of the season. He has hit exclusively in the second spot of the Mariners' lineup this season, and while he won't continue to get on base at a .415 clip, he should be in a prime position to score plenty of runs. He's attempted only stolen base on the season, but given that his lowest stolen base total in a full season at the major-league level is 20, that shouldn't be a concern.
Apr 8 2018Segura went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs in Saturday's 11-4 win over the Twins. He once again made some hay out of the two-hole, posting his fourth multi-hit effort in the last five games. The hot-hitting Segura has already started racking up the two-baggers as well, as he's now laced a trio of doubles over the last five games. Given his body of work over the last two seasons and hot start to 2018, Segura appears primed for a prolific fantasy campaign as a pivotal part of a potent Mariners lineup.
Apr 4 2018Segura went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Giants.A 1-for-8 start over his first two games didn't faze Segura, who's bounced back to go 5-for-8 with two doubles, an RBI, Tuesday's walk and three runs over the subsequent pair of contests. One of the better pure hitters in baseball over the last two seasons, Segura's current surge serves as a tangible reminder of the upside he offers if he can remain healthier than 2017, when he played in only 125 games primarily due to a multi-week ankle injury.
Apr 2 2018Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Indians. He opened the scoring for the Mariners after they'd fallen behind by a 2-0 margin through four, lacing a two-bagger to deep right that plated David Freitas. Segura went hitless Opening Day, but he bounced back with three hits and a pair of RBI overall in the last two games of the three-game set against the Indians. He's projected to once again thrive near the top of the order in 2018, with dynamic leadoff man Dee Gordon likely to afford him a solid allotment of RBI opportunities over the course of the season.
Mar 25 2018Segura (thumb) will bat second and man shortstop in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Padres, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. After a week-long absence due to the sore thumb, Segura returned to Cactus League action in grand fashion Saturday against the Cubs, going 3-for-3 with a walk to raise his spring on-base percentage to a robust .535. With the 28-year-old in the lineup for a second straight day, it's safe to say that he's ready to go for Opening Day.
Mar 22 2018Segura is expected to play in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura has been dealing with a sore thumb recently, but the issue was never thought to be anything that would keep him sidelined for an extended period. He's expected to hit in the cage Thursday, and if everything goes as planned, he'll be cleared to return to exhibition play over the weekend. Barring any setbacks, Segura should be ready to go by the start of the season.
Mar 21 2018Segura will not play Wednesday due to a sore thumb, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Manager Scott Servais said that he expects Segura to be back in the lineup within the next couple days. Barring any sort of setback, the shortstop should be fully healthy by the time Opening Day rolls around against Cleveland.
Mar 16 2018Segura (hamstring) will return to the Mariners' lineup Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura was removed from Wednesday's game against the Giants with hamstring tightness, but the injury was reportedly minor. With him already being able to return to the lineup, there should be little risk of Segura missing Opening Day.
Mar 14 2018Manager Scott Servais said Segura (hamstring) was lifted from Wednesday's spring game as a precaution, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The manager noted he didn't believe the issue was anything serious, adding that there is just a "heightened awareness" given all of the strains and injuries the team is currently dealing with. More will obviously be known in the comings days as Segura undergoes further testing, but early indications are that the stud shortstop avoided a long-term injury.
Mar 14 2018Segura exited Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Giants with right hamstring tightness, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Injuries continue to rip their way through the Mariners' camp, as Segura joins a long list of teammates dealing with an ailment of some sort. The severity of Segura's injury remains unclear at this point, but more will hopefully be known following the conclusion of Wednesday's contest. He should be considered day-to-day for now. The shortstop was 1-for-1 with a walk before exiting.
Mar 4 2018Segura, who slugged a two-run home run and drew two walks over three plate appearances in Saturday's 4-2 Cactus League win over the Angels, is now hitting .400 (4-for-10) with two home runs, six RBI, three walks and three runs across five spring training games. There were only 11 homers among the shortstop's 43 extra-base hits in 2017, but he's already launched a pair of round trippers this spring without yet having logged a double or triple. Although his power numbers were down in his first Mariners campaign last season after blasting a career-high 20 homers with the Diamondbacks in 2016, Segura's .300/.349/.427 line over 565 plate appearances was far from disappointing. Now having hit the .300 threshold for two consecutive seasons, Segura will look to continue filling out the box score in 2018, although he'll cede the leadoff spot he primarily manned last season to new arrival Dee Gordon.
Oct 1 2017Segura isn't in the lineup Sunday against the Angels.Gordon Beckham will draw another start at shortstop as Segura remains on the bench for Seattle's season finale against the Angels. Segura recently dealt with a hurt finger, but there's no reason to believe that it's acting up again. Rather it looks like the Mariners are simply being careful with the 27-year-old. Segura played in 125 games for the Mariners this season and hit .300/.349/.427 while stealing 22 bases.
Sep 30 2017Segura is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Gordon Beckham will man shortstop as Ben Gamel leads off against right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Segura just returned to the Mariners' lineup Friday after missing four games with a finger injury, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. There has been no word of any kind of setback with the finger -- the Mariners just have no reason to push it at this stage of the game.
Sep 29 2017Segura (finger) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura did not start the last four games while tending to his finger injury, but he is back in the lineup Friday for the first game of the Mariners' final series of the season. As he regularly does, Segura will play shortstop and hit leadoff Friday night.
Sep 25 2017Segura (finger) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics.Segura will stick on the bench for a second straight contest as he continues to deal with a sprained finger. His status for the rest of Seattle's series against Oakland remains up in the air. In the meantime, Taylor Motter will continue to see starts at shortstop.
Sep 25 2017Segura (finger) is unlikely to play in the Mariners' upcoming series against the Athletics, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.Segura sprained his finger over the weekend, and while the issue isn't thought to be overly serious, he'll apparently need a couple of days off to allow it to heal. He's hoping to play in Seattle's upcoming series against the Angels, but that will depend on how his finger responds to treatment in the coming days. In the meantime, Taylor Motter should continue to start at shortstop for the Mariners.
Sep 24 2017Segura (finger) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports. After being forced to leave Saturday's game with what seems to be a minor sprained finger, the Mariners will give Segura the day to recover. Taylor Motter will start at shortstop while Ben Gamel moves to the leadoff spot. Until further notice, consider Segura day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener against Oakland.
Sep 23 2017Segura left the Mariners' Saturday game in the top of the ninth due to an apparent finger injury, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Johns said Segura appeared "to dislocate a finger on [a] play at second", but it's best to wait on specifics of the injury when the team announces it. Considering they were trailing the Indians 8-2 when he left, the Mariners' already waning playoff chances would be dealt a significant blow if Segura has to miss time with a little more than one week in the regular season remaining. Taylor Motter replaced Segura at shortstop upon his departure.
Sep 23 2017Segura is day-to-day after spraining the tip of his right middle finger Saturday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. His fantasy owners will have to check his daily lineup status, though it looks like he'll return before the end of the regular season. Segura will likely be replaced by Taylor Motter at shortstop -- as the case was Saturday -- for as long as he must rest.
Sep 16 2017Segura went 2-for-4 with two RBI from a fielder's choice and a run-scoring single in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Astros. He also doubled.Segura now has a pair of multi-hit outings in his last three games and four overall thus far in September. The 27-year-old shortstop has also already racked up nine RBI during the month, putting him well on pace to comfortably eclipse the season-best monthly figure of 12 that he managed back in May. While an ankle injury has significantly curtailed his season, Segura has now eclipsed 40 extra-base hits for the second straight campaign and has also swiped at least 20 bases for the fifth consecutive season.
Sep 13 2017Segura went 2-for-4 with his 10th homer, a walk, two RBI and two runs against the Rangers on Wednesday. He'd been cold for a seven-game stretch, hitting just .133 over 30 at-bats, so this was a welcome rebound for Segura's fantasy owners, who usually haven't had to worry about his batting average. The 27-year-old's season numbers have been hurt by the time he's spent on the DL, but .297 with 10 homers and 20 steals from the shortstop position is still getting it done for fantasy owners.
Sep 4 2017Segura went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and three runs in Sunday's 10-2 win over the Athletics.Segura set the table for Robinson Cano perfectly on Sunday, coming home on three of his teammate's hits. The 27-year-old is off to a blistering start in September after a lackluster August (.229/.302/.314), going 7-for-13 with three doubles, a home run, two RBI, a pair of stolen bases and six runs over the three-game series against the Athletics to kick off the new month.
Aug 30 2017Segura is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.Ben Gamel will lead off as Taylor Motter mans short with Segura on the bench following 25 consecutive starts. Segura has been slumping of late, managing just four hits in his last 39 at-bats. He's also seen a precipitous drop in power this season -- Segura has just two homers over the last two months -- as many expected when he was traded from Arizona to Seattle. However, the 27-year-old is still hitting and getting on base at a good clip, so his spot atop the order should be secure.
Aug 17 2017Segura went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Orioles. The red-hot leadoff man has taken it up a notch in August, posting five multi-hit efforts in the last seven games and posting a .309/.397/.436 line overall during the month. Segura has offered relatively modest power numbers, but he's made up for it with a .320/.372/.438 season line that includes 18 stolen bases.
Aug 13 2017Segura went 3-for-5 with his 17th stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Angels.Segura has been on a tear over the last five games, hitting .450 (9-for-20) with a double, a home run, two RBI, three runs and a pair of stolen bases. The 27-year-old is providing robust fantasy production in the majority of categories, with only his power numbers needing a bit of a boost to get up to par with last year's 20-homer campaign.
Aug 11 2017Segura went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Angels.Segura made plenty of hay out of the leadoff spot and launched his first round tripper since July 5. The 27-year-old shortstop slugged a career-best 20 homers with the Diamondbacks last season, and hasn't seen any notable drop in hard contact in 2017. However, his HR/FB rate has dipped from 13.5 percent to 8.9 percent in his new Seattle digs. Despite flashing less power, Segura's .312/.366/.433 line is still keeping fantasy owners happy.
Aug 5 2017Segura went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs in Friday's 5-2 win over the Royals.Segura ceded the leadoff spot to Ben Gamel yet enjoyed a productive night, notching his first pair of hits in August. The 27-year-old shortstop has come back down to earth somewhat since seeing his average go as high as .355 on July 8, but he still wrapped up July with a seven-game hitting streak and a .300/.339/.400 line.
Aug 1 2017Segura is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Despite being in the midst of a seven game hitting streak, Segura will head to the bench for his first day off in over a month. In his place, Danny Espinosa will draw the start at shortstop, batting ninth.
Jul 26 2017Segura went 1-for-5 with a game-winning RBI infield single and two walks in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Red Sox.The prolific leadoff man was the hero on the night when he snapped a 5-5 tie with his 13th-inning hit. Segura now sports a .311/.344/.422 line in July that includes eight extra-base hits (seven doubles, one home run) and nine RBI.
Jul 18 2017Segura went 2-for-5 with an RBI infield single, a double and a run in Monday's 9-7 extra-inning win over the Astros, bringing his average to an majors-best .349.It was another stellar all-around night for Segura, who also turned in a pair of defensive gems in the ninth when he single-handedly prevented Josh Reddick from scoring on two different occasions, preserving a 7-7 tie in the process. Segura's July tear includes a .411/.414/.571 line, six doubles, a homer and seven RBI, as well as a trio of four-hit efforts.
Jul 9 2017Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, another two-bagger and a run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Athletics.Segura's hitting streak is up to five games, and he's hit safely in 15 of his 17 contests since returning from a disabled list stint brought on by an ankle injury. The hot-hitting shortstop has already racked up five multi-hit efforts in July as well, and has 22 extra-base hits in just 59 games this season.
Jul 6 2017Segura went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored during Wednesday's loss to Kansas City.Segura has missed time to injury this season, but when on the field, he's been an excellent fantasy option. The shortstop owns a .343/.387/.473 slash line with six homers, 28 RBI, nine stolen bases and 39 runs through 56 games. Setting the table for the Mariners is also a cushy setup for Segura, and should aid him in continuing to provide solid cross-category numbers.
Jul 4 2017Segura went 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Royals. It's his second four-hit performance in his last three games, and Segura is now hitting .346 (18-for-52) in 12 contests since coming off the DL. He isn't showing the power or the speed he did in 2016, but the 27-year-old's .848 OPS is just shy of last year's career-best mark.
Jul 3 2017Segura went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run during Sunday's win over the Angels.Segura is 14-for-43 through 10 games since returning from the disabled list, and he projects to remain a strong fantasy asset leading off for the Mariners. His year-long numbers are going to suffer from his two DL stints, but he's still posted a rock-solid .846 OPS with five homers, 25 RBI, eight stolen bases and 36 runs through 242 plate appearances.
Jun 29 2017Segura went 3-for-5 with a run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies. The hot-hitting shortstop racked up the most hits of any Mariners player while reaching safely for the sixth time in the seven games since his return from the disabled list. Segura has been able to essentially keep up the pace that star rookie Ben Gamel set at the leadoff spot in his stead, and his current .336 average represents a career high.
Jun 28 2017Segura went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies. The home run was Segura's first since May 18, and just his fourth extra-base hit since that date (19 games). Segura, who is 7-for-13 on stolen-base attempts this season, has not attempted a steal since returning from an ankle injury last week.
Jun 22 2017Segura (ankle) went 1-for-3 with a walk in his return from the disabled list Wednesday against Detroit. After missing the last 18 games with an ankle injury, there seemed to be no lingering effects as the 27-year-old ran around the bases to score twice in the late innings. Segura, who is batting .341 on the year, will move back into his everyday role at shortstop, where he will look to continue his hot season at the plate.
Jun 21 2017Segura (ankle) was activated from the disabled list ahead of Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He is starting at shortstop and leading off.As expected, Segura is back with the team after appearing in a pair of rehab games earlier in the week. The 27-year-old, who compiled a .341/.391/.462 triple slash with seven stolen bases in 43 games before landing on the DL, will face Justin Verlander in his return to the lineup. Tyler Smith was sent back to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 20 2017Segura (ankle) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Thursday, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.Segura was originally thought to potentially be ready for a Wednesday return, but the Mariners will hold off one day just to be safe. He began a rehab assignment Monday as the Triple-A affiliate's designated hitter and is expected to play shortstop Tuesday. As long as all goes well with that, the young shortstop should resume his normal position at shortstop Thursday, moving Taylor Mother to the bench.
Jun 18 2017Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed that Segura (ankle) would begin a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Tacoma, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Segura's high-ankle sprain didn't seem to bother him too much while he was running the bases and moving laterally in the field during his workout Saturday, so the Mariners have cleared him to move on to the final phase of the recovery process. According to Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune, the infielder indicated after the workout that he wasn't 100 percent healthy, but believes that he's made substantial progress and could be ready to rejoin the Mariners by midweek. It's expected that Segura will serve as Tacoma's designated hitter Monday and play shortstop Tuesday before coming off the disabled list the following day in a best-case scenario. Taylor Motter, who has been serving as the Mariners' everyday shortstop the last two-plus weeks, would likely settle back into a utility role once Segura is activated.
Jun 17 2017Segura said his ankle is nearing 100 percent and he is hoping to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura is set to test his ankle with on-field workouts Saturday, and if all goes well he could head out on a two-game rehab assignment before possibly returning to the Mariners after that. If this scheduled holds, the 27-year-old could be back for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Jun 15 2017Segura (ankle) probably will play at least one rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma over the upcoming weekend, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. This probably puts him on track to return on the Mariners' next homestand against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. It's good news for the speedy infielder, and fantasy players in weekly lineups could slide Segura back in with confidence for their next deadline lock as long as he makes it through the weekend OK.
Jun 14 2017Segura (ankle) performed running and agility work Wednesday but doesn't look likely to return before early next week, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Manager Scott Servais had originally expressed hope that his newly-minted shortstop would be ready to play in at least one game during the coming weekend series versus the Rangers, yet he now concedes he might not meet that goal. Segura also took full batting practice Wednesday and reported feeling fine after his agility drills, but it appears increasingly likely the Mariners will err on the side of caution with respect to his return.
Jun 14 2017Segura (ankle) is scheduled to take batting practice Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Segura was able to test his ankle running Tuesday, and apparently everything went well as he's now set to take batting practice for the first time since suffering the high ankle sprain. If all goes well, the Mariners are hoping Segura will be able to return sometime next week, which would be ahead of scheduled.
Jun 13 2017Segura (ankle) is expected to do some running Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. It's hard to imagine Segura will really cut it loose, as he reported feeling some soreness while moving to his right during fielding drills Monday. A late-June return appears to be the best-case scenario for Segura, who was off to an outstanding start with his new team (.341/.391/.462) before suffering the high-ankle sprain. He was rewarded for that hot start with a new five-year, $70 million extension.
Jun 12 2017Segura (ankle) fielded grounders prior to Monday's game against the Twins, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. It's Segura's first on-field activity since he suffered the high-ankle sprain June 1. The shortstop is hopeful to come off the disabled list by the end of June, but a return date probably won't come into focus until he's cleared to resume running the bases.
Jun 7 2017Segura agreed Wednesday with the Mariners on a five-year, $70 million contract extension, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports. The Mariners dealt away two prized young assets in pitcher Taijuan Walker and outfielder Mitch Haniger to the Diamondbacks in the offseason in order to upgrade the shortstop spot with the addition of Segura, and he's certainly proven that his career-best 2016 campaign wasn't a fluke. He was slashing .341/.391/.462 with seven stolen bases across 197 plate appearances before suffering a high-ankle sprain earlier this month that could keep him sidelined until the end of June. With the confidence that the ankle issue won't be anything that dampens Segura's long-term outlook, the Mariners elected to lock in the 27-year-old through the 2022 season, buying out his final year of arbitration in the process.
Jun 6 2017Segura (ankle) and the Mariners are working on a multi-year contract extension, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.Acquired in what has been a considerably rewarding offseason trade with the D-Backs that also netted Mitch Haniger (oblique), Segura has quickly made a lasting impression in Seattle. The shortstop's .341 average is tops in the AL despite the fact he's been on the disabled list since June 3, and he's also sporting team highs in OBP (.391) and hits (62). Terms of the potential deal, which was first reported by MLB Network's Jon Morosi, have not been disclosed.
Jun 3 2017Segura (ankle) is optimistic he will back from the DL sometime before the end of June, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.Segura, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday, said he is already seeing major improvement after getting treatment to reduce swelling. "If it feels good over the next couple of days, maybe I'll do some activities," he said. This is great news from the recovery standpoint as it appears the hot-hitting shortstop won't be sidelined for too long, barring any setbacks. Segura finished the month of May with a .358 average and an .883 OPS.
Jun 2 2017Segura (ankle) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday. The injury is being dubbed a high ankle sprain, and it appears that the injury is serious enough to warrant a DL stint. No word has been released about how long Segura will remain out either, but Taylor Motter seems to be the likely option to fill in at shortstop while he's on the shelf.
Jun 1 2017Segura (ankle) is undergoing additional tests on the injury he incurred during Thursday's game, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Segura hurt his ankle while sliding into second base Thursday and had to be helped off the field. More information regarding the severity of the ailment is expected to be released Friday, but the team doesn't expect him to be available for the next few days. In his place, look for Taylor Motter to fill in at shortstop.
Jun 1 2017Segura was removed early from Thursday's game with the Rockies due to an apparent ankle injury, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.Prior to exiting, Segura was 0-for-2 with a walk. He unsuccessfully tried to advance to second base on a sacrifice fly and appeared to injure himself on the slide. It's unclear how severe the injury is, but it's certainly not a good sign that he had to be helped off the field. Consider him day-to-day until more information is released. Taylor Motter moved to shortstop to fill in for him.
May 31 2017Segura pounded out four singles in six at-bats and stole a base Tuesday at Colorado. He neither drove in nor scored a run, which is a surprising outcome for a four-hit day out of the leadoff spot in Coors -- especially considering that the Mariners put 10 runs on the board. Nonetheless, Segura's got his average up to a lofty .345 to go with four homers and seven steals despite having missed some time to injury in April. Some BABIP regression may bring that mark down, but he's a good bet to clear .300 easily for the second straight year while providing a strong power-speed combo.
May 26 2017Segura went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Nationals. The shortstop endured a 1-for-12 mini-slump over three games after his 17-game hitting streak was snapped, but he's now hit safely in three of the subsequent four contests. Segura is currently boasting personal bests in batting average (.335) and OBP (.380) and also sports the second-highest slugging percentage (.465) and OPS (.845) of his career.
May 19 2017Segura went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and two walks in Thursday's 5-4 win over the White Sox.The stellar leadoff man shows no sign of slowing down, with Thursday's effort extending his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games. Segura's homer, a 393-foot shot to left in the fifth that plated Jarrod Dyson and Carlos Ruiz, was his first since May 3, and he's now slashing .394/.456/.549 over 79 plate appearances during the current month.
May 18 2017Segura went 1-for-4 with a two-run single and a run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Athletics.Segura extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a fifth-inning single that plated Boog Powell and Guillermo Heredia, extending the Mariners' lead to 3-0. The 27-year-old is now slashing .397/.446/.515 and boasts a .418 wOBA over 74 plate appearances in May, while also leading the Mariners in hits (46) and the AL in batting average (.359).
May 10 2017Segura went 3-for-6 with three runs in Tuesday's 10-9 win over the Phillies. The Mariners' leadoff man continued his excellent season at the plate, notching his sixth consecutive multi-hit effort and scoring both the game-tying and game-winning runs on doubles by Ben Gamel and Taylor Motter in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Segura is hitting .485 over his first 33 at-bats (seven games) in May, and .403 (25-for-62) with four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and 15 runs since returning from the disabled list on April 25.
May 7 2017Segura went 3-for-5 with two runs in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Rangers. The talented infielder is now slashing .458/.519/.625 over his first 24 at-bats of May, a line that includes a double, a home run and four RBI. Segura has rattled off four straight multi-hit efforts as well, and has six overall since coming off the disabled list on April 25. The 27-year-old has generated stellar production despite a notable jump in strikeout rate (14.6 percent to 20.2 percent) and a corresponding decrease in contact rate (84 percent to 79 percent) compared to last season, with a .429 BABIP playing a substantial role in negating those undesirable trends.
May 4 2017Segura went 2-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base and four RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Angels. The homer was his third and the steal was his fifth on the season, and Segura is now slashing .314/.342/.486 through 16 games with 13 runs and 12 RBI. He's been locked into Seattle's leadoff spot since coming off the DL and seems well on his way to matching the production he offered in his career year of 2016.
Apr 26 2017Segura went 3-for-6 for the second consecutive game Wednesday, notching a double, two RBI and two runs against the Tigers. After returning with a 3-for-6 effort that included a homer Tuesday, Segura continued to look quite healthy -- effervescent, even. His BABIP's now at .400, so don't expect him to carry that .364 batting average for long, but Segura should still contribute in that category while contributing both power and speed, which makes him a very valuable fantasy asset indeed.
Apr 25 2017Segura is starting at shortstop and hitting leadoff Tuesday against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.Segura came off the DL on Tuesday, so it comes as no surprise that the Mariners are including him in the lineup for Tuesday night's game. Segura missed 12 games with a hamstring injury, but will look to get back on track against Jordan Zimmermann and the Tigers.
Apr 25 2017Segura went 3-for-6 with a homer, three RBI and two runs in his return from injury Tuesday against Detroit.Unfortunately, the Mariners still got run out of the building by a 19-run explosion from the Tigers' offense, but this was still an impressive return for Segura, who missed 12 games with a hamstring ailment. It's hard to imagine Segura equaling last year's massive production now that he's moved from Arizona to the less hitter-friendly environs of Seattle's Safeco Field, but he's still looked good when healthy early on.
Apr 25 2017Segura (hamstring) was activated from the DL on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. The Mariners had intended to activate Segura on Tuesday, and those plans have come to fruition. Segura didn't have his best showing during his rehab assignment at Double-A Arkansas, as he went just 1-for-11 over three games. Now that he's healthy, he'll look to continue his strong start to the season, as he was hitting .313/.353/.406 prior to landing on the disabled list.
Apr 23 2017Manager Scott Servais said Segura (hamstring) would rejoin the Mariners on Tuesday in Detroit, at which point he'd likely be activated from the disabled list, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura has played in rehab games the last two days with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, playing shortstop while going a combined 1-for-6 at the dish in those contests. He'll play in another game Sunday with Northwest Arkansas, and if his hamstring checks out fine during the contest, the Mariners would likely immediately insert him back into the lineup. Segura's return will likely result in utility man Taylor Motter seeing most of his duties in the corner outfield.
Apr 21 2017Segura went 0-for-3 with a walk as the designated hitter at Double-A Arkansas and will play shortstop on Saturday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura's rehab is progressing as smoothly as it could thus far. The Mariners have an off-day Monday, so if Segura's games in the field over the weekend go well, it's feasible he could return for Tuesday's series opener against Detroit.
Apr 20 2017Segura (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Arkansas on Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura will serve as the team's designated hitter in Friday's game and will work his way up to playing the field in the near future. It appears unlikely that Segura will return for Seattle's upcoming series against the Athletics, but as long as his rehab assignment goes smoothly he should come off the disabled list early next week.
Apr 19 2017Segura (hamstring) is expected to play several games in a rehab assignment with Double-A Arkansas which could push his return to Tuesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. It was initially thought that the young shortstop could return in time for Seattle's weekend series with Oakland, but it seems that manager Scott Servais would rather have Segura appear in two or three games in the minors just to be sure he's 100 percent. They haven't ruled out a Sunday return, but at this point, it's likely that Segura will slot back into the lineup Tuesday when the Mariners take on the Tigers.
Apr 18 2017Segura (hamstring) plans to play in two games on a rehab assignment before being activated from the disabled list, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. The details of his rehab assignment haven't been specified, but Segura is still expected to rejoin the Mariners during their weekend series in Oakland (though it may not be Friday). Segura was 10-for-32 with three RBI and three stolen bases before injuring his hamstring. The 27-year-old is expected to reclaim his role at shortstop from Taylor Motter upon his activation.
Apr 17 2017Segura (hamstring) is still expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list on April 21, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. "From what I understand he is," manager Scott Servais said. "You see him out there taking groundballs and taking a little BP. He hasn't really gotten after it 100 percent by any means yet. I will get an update from the trainers later in the day, but everything is leaning towards him being available for us when we get over to Oakland."Segura was one of few bright spots for a moribund Mariners offense early, hitting .313 over his first 34 plate appearances before injuring his hamstring on April 10. Taylor Motter has done a commendable job in his stead, reaching safely in all five games heading into Monday night's action while smacking two home runs and compiling five RBI. Despite Motter's success, the Mariners will be glad to have Segura's potent bat back at the top of the order, while the former should continue seeing his fair share of opportunities due to his ability to play multiple positions.
Apr 11 2017Segura (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday.Segura suffered a strained hamstring after diving back to first base in Monday's game. The team has yet to outline an estimated return or elaborate on the severity of the injury, but more information should be available soon. In a corresponding move, Seattle designated Paul Fry for assignment and selected Mike Freeman's contract from Triple-A Tacoma.
Apr 11 2017Manager Scott Servais said Tuesday that he fully expects Segura (hamstring) to return after the minimum 10 days, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura injured his hamstring on a dive back into first base during Monday's game, which led to his placement on the DL, but the team is classifying his strain as "mild." Taylor Motter figures to take on the lion's share of the workload at shortstop over the next week or so, while Jarrod Dyson will get an opportunity to lead off in Segura's absence.
Apr 10 2017Segura was pulled from Monday's game after straining his right hamstring, Shannon Drayer of MyNorthwest.com reports.Segura was forced to exit the game after he injured himself diving back to first base in an attempt to avoid a double play. It's unclear the injury will keep him sidelined, so he should be considered day-to-day until the Mariners update his status. With Shawn O'Malley on the DL, Taylor Motter appears to be the likely replacement for Segura if he should miss extended time.
Apr 10 2017Segura's hamstring injury is considered day-to-day, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports. This isn't too much of a deviation from the initial reports, but the official word is that Segura's injury is "very mild". The 27-year-old is hitting .333 with three stolen bases through the first week of the season. Taylor Motter will likely assume Segura's role while he is on the mend.
Apr 10 2017Segura left Monday's game after apparently injuring himself while diving back to first base, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.Segura was replaced by Taylor Motter after exiting the game in the fourth inning. He should be considered day-to-day until the Mariners update his status, which should happen sometime after Monday's contest.
Apr 9 2017Haniger went 1-for-4 with solo home run and two runs scored in a wild 10-9 loss to the Angels on Sunday. That's now three home runs on the young season for the intriguing 26-year-old prospect. However, he's batting just .214 in the early going, and he'll need to cut down on his whiffs and make more contact in order to improve his average and on-base percentage. Haniger remains a worthwhile fantasy commodity -- mainly for his power -- in deeper leagues, though.
Apr 9 2017Segura went 1-for-3 with three runs and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Angels.Segura is now hitting .333 and has three stolen bases on the young season. He's already showing that last year with the Diamondbacks was no fluke. Hitting atop a powerful Seattle lineup, Segura is a good fantasy piece to have, as he provides speed, average and power.
Apr 9 2017Segura went 3-for-4 with two runs in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Angels.Segura played the role of table-setter perfectly Saturday, coming home on Mitch Haniger's first-inning home run and Nelson Cruz's sacrifice fly in the eighth. The 27-year-old has been exactly what the Mariners envisioned thus far at the top of the order, with four multi-hit efforts over the first six games along with a pair of stolen bases.
Apr 6 2017Segura went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Astros.Segura has been serviceable at the plate thus far over the first three games of the season, hitting .267 (4-for-15) and reaching safely in two of those contests. However, as per Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune, his defense has been questionable. Segura lacked a sense of urgency on a routine grounder by Jose Altuve in Tuesday's game that would have gone as an infield single save for a successful replay challenge, and also bounced a throw to first baseman Danny Valencia in the ninth inning Wednesday with the score tied, allowing Alex Bregman to reach. The 27-year-old sported a solid .986 fielding percentage in 23 games at shortstop for the Diamondbacks last season, which was a career-best figure outside of a one-game stint at the position with the Angels in his rookie 2012 campaign.
Apr 4 2017Segura went 2-for-4 in his Mariners debut in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Astros.Manning the leadoff spot, Segura was essentially the lone bright spot on a day when Astros starter Dallas Keuchel and two relievers completely stymied a Mariners offense that often looked like it was hitting all cylinders this spring. Segura was the one player to transfer his success from the exhibition slate to Opening Day, and will be counted all season to set the table for the array of potent bats in Seattle's lineup.
Apr 2 2017Segura will lead off against southpaw Dallas Keuchel in Monday's Opening Day tilt versus the Astros and will likely bat first against righties as well, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.Segura enjoyed an excellent spring, hitting .341 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and six RBI and looking every bit the multi-purpose threat he was in his breakout 2016 season with the Diamondbacks. His excellent plate discipline and ability to get on base consistently makes him a natural for the top of the order regardless of the handedness of pitcher, a role that manager Scott Servais feels is a no-brainer. "He had a couple hundred hits last year," Servais said of Segura. "He hit the ball more to right field than any other right-handed hitter in the league. So why not? He's a good hitter."
Mar 23 2017Segura went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 9-8 Cactus League loss to the Angels. In what was his second game back from the World Baseball Classic, Segura got a hold of a Kirby Yates breaking ball in the sixth and launched it over the left-field fence to open the Mariners' scoring on the day. Factoring in Wednesday's production, the hot-hitting offseason acquisition is hitting .333 (8-for-24) with two doubles, two homers, six RBI, a walk and five runs this spring.
Mar 21 2017Segura is expected back in Mariners camp from the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday, Doug Miller of MLB.com reports.Segura enjoyed an excellent WBC for Team Dominican Republic, hitting .364 (4-for-11) with two doubles, three RBI and a stolen base. Considering he received considerably fewer tournament at-bats than teammates Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano, manager Scott Servais is considering inserting Segura right back into spring action as soon as Tuesday night's Cactus League matchup against the A's.
Mar 2 2017Segura will replace Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) on the Dominican Republic's World Baseball Classic roster, according to Dominican general manager Moises Alou, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports.Ramirez's absence will be a precaution heading into the season. Segura, meanwhile, will have less time in camp to work with his new Mariners club, but he gives the Dominican squad a more versatile infielder than Han-Ram. It's an unexpected stop on Segura's first spring with Seattle, though the leadoff candidate remains a sensible starting shortstop or second baseman for any eligible fantasy owner.
Feb 28 2017Segura was 3-for-3 with a single, RBI double and two-run home run in Monday's 14-3 rain-shortened Cactus League loss to the Royals.Segura has been outstanding over his first two games, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles. one homer, three RBI and two runs. The prospect of a locked-in Segura hitting ahead of Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager is sure to give opposing pitchers plenty of apprehension this coming season, and the offseason acquisition looks primed for even better production than his superb 2016 campaign in Arizona with his spring performances thus far.
Feb 26 2017Segura went 1-for-2 with a double and run scored in Saturday's 13-3 Cactus League victory over the Padres.Hitting out of the two-hole, Segura made an immediate impact with a line-drive double to left field in the first, eventually coming home on Nelson Cruz's three-run blast later in the frame. It was an ideal start for the offseason acquisition, who the Mariners are counting on as a formidable presence in front of Robinson Cano and Cruz near the top of the order. Given his demonstrated ability to pack the box score and the menacing pair hitting behind him, Segura could be in for an even more explosive campaign than 2016, when he compiled a whopping 68 extra-base hits with the Diamondbacks.
Jan 26 2017Segura is expected to open Cactus League action as the Mariners' No. 2 hitter, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.Manager Scott Servais said he will try Jarrod Dyson in the leadoff spot (at least against right-handed pitching), with Segura following in the two-hole ahead of Robinson Cano. With the offseason trade from Arizona to Seattle, Segura sees a big downgrade in home ballpark, but the Mariners seem intent on running more this year so a fifth straight season with 20-plus stolen bases seems likely.
Jan 12 2017Segura agreed to a one-year, $6.2 million contract with the Mariners on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.Segura batted .319 with 20 homer runs and 33 stolen bases last season with the Diamondbacks before being traded to the Mariners in November. Expect him to be the main shortstop for the Mariners for the 2017 season as he looks to build on a great bounce-back 2016 season.
Nov 23 2016Segura was traded to the Mariners on Wednesday along with Mitch Haniger and Zac Curtis in exchange for Taijuan Walker and Ketel Marte. It was well known that the Mariners were looking for an upgrade at shortstop and they landed a significant one in Segura. He put together what was easily his best season in his age-26 campaign, batting .319/.368/.499 with 20 homers and 33 steals (43 attempts). While he now goes to a more pitcher-friendly home park and will play for a manager in Scott Servais who didn't run a whole lot this past season (24th in stolen base attempts), Segura's batted ball profile from 2016 and speed bode well for his chances of once again providing quality production atop the lineup.
Sep 30 2016Segura (rib) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.Segura was removed early from Thursday's game due to cramping around his rib cage, but the setback will not prevent him from taking the field. He will man second base and bat leadoff like he regularly does.
Sep 29 2016Segura left Thursday's game against the Nationals with a cramp under his left rib cage, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The Diamondbacks don't believe the injury is serious but will re-evaluate Friday. The 26-year-old put together a 1-for-3 afternoon with one run scored and his 32nd stolen base of his renaissance season, in which he boasts career highs of a .319 average, 20 home runs, 97 runs scored, 64 RBI and an .864 OPS. His fantasy owners still playing surely need him to help them in championship week but will have to wait for an update.
Sep 29 2016Segura was removed from Thursday's game with an apparent injury. It's not clear what type of injury Segura suffered, but it occurred during an at-bat during the top of the seventh inning and he was unable to continue. Expect Segura's status to be updated when more details become available.
Sep 28 2016Segura went 1-for-4 with a leadoff homer Tuesday against the Nationals.Segura hit Max Scherzer's first pitch out of the park to reach 20 homers for the first time in his career. The middle infielder has proven himself to be much more than a light-hitting speedster, reaching half of last season's home run total with three in just the past two games. He's currently the only hitter in baseball with at least 20 homers and 30 steals.
Sep 26 2016Segura was a major part of the Diamondbacks' blowout victory against the Nationals on Monday, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.Segura has been a rare bright spot for the Diamondbacks all season, batting .317 with 19 home runs and 30 stolen bases for the season. The 26-year-old has set career highs in runs scored, home runs, RBI and batting average in his first season in the desert.
Sep 18 2016Segura went 3-for-6 with a double, a walk and two RBI in Sunday's 10-9 victory over the Dodgers.Segura raised his NL-leading hit total to 189 with a pair of singles and his 38th double, capping the four-game set with his third straight multi-hit performance. The 26-year-old has caught fire over his past six games, batting .517 with five home runs and eight RBI. He's currently slashing .319/.365/.490 -- all career highs.
Sep 17 2016Segura went 2-for-4 with a solo homer -- his 17th of the season -- in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.Add another homer -- his fifth in his last five games -- to the 26-year-old shortstop's career-best total. Segura is the NL hit leader with 186, his superb average (.317) ranks fourth in the NL, while his 30 steals ties him for fourth in the NL.
Sep 14 2016Segura racked up five hits -- two of them homers -- and drove home three runs in six at-bats Wednesday against the Rockies. This series has taken place in Arizona, not Coors Field, but don't tell Segura that -- he's ripped off consecutive two-homer games and eight hits in a span of 11 at-bats. That's five more hits than he accumulated in the prior seven games put together, as Segura had hit what amounted to a slump for him in this outstanding offensive season he's put together. He just continues growing his new career highs in homers (16), RBI (56) and runs (89).
Sep 14 2016Segura homered twice in a 3-for-5 game with three runs scored Tuesday against the Rockies.Segura managed his second multi-homer game of the season and his first since all the way back on April 7 against the Cubs. With 14 home runs, Segura now has a new career high, topping his 12 home runs in 146 games back in 2013 with the Brewers. This has been a breakout year for Segura, whose .312/.358/.470 batting line represents career bests across the board.
Sep 3 2016Segura is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rockies. This appears to be just a standard day off for Segura, and unfortunately it deprives his owners of one of the Coors Field games this weekend. Phil Gosselin will get the start at second base while hitting atop the order Saturday.
Sep 1 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.Segura accounted for a third of the team's hits, but he didn't come around to score as the Diamondbacks mustered just two runs. The steal gives him 28 for the season, which is the second highest mark of his career (Segura had 44 steals in 2013). Segura is having a bounce-back season, and his line is now up to a robust .318/.366/.475.
Aug 30 2016Segura (illness) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants. An illness kept Segura from Sunday's series finale against the Reds but he's been deemed good to go following Monday's off day. Despite going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in his last full game, Segura is still batting .340 in August, his fourth month of the season hitting over .300. He has 15 extra-base hits this month (.567 SLG) and nine steals in 10 attempts.
Aug 28 2016Segura (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports. For the second day in a row, Segura is out of Arizona's lineup with an illness. Brandon Drury will start at second and hit seventh Sunday when the Diamondbacks take on Homer Bailey and the Reds. The club has Monday off, so consider Segura day-to-day heading into Tuesday's game against the Giants.
Aug 21 2016Segura is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports.Chris Owings will bat leadoff and start at shortstop as the Diamondbacks give Segura the day off. Apart from an 0-for-4 outing Saturday, Segura has been spectacular at the plate recently. Over the last 14 games, he's hitting .397/.424/.651 with two home runs and seven RBI.
Aug 19 2016Segura went 2-for-4 with a double, his 11th homer, two RBI and two runs against the Padres on Thursday. That's four straight games with a double for Segura, just the latest in what can truly be described as a season-long hot streak. The middle-infield spark plug hasn't seen his average dip under .300 since a brief cold spell in the first half of June, and he's now coming up on new career marks in homers (just one shy) and RBI (three short of last year's 50) to go along with his .315/.362/.473 slash line (career highs across the board).
Aug 17 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.Segura has been on fire in August, registering a .321/.367/.536 line through his first 13 games of the month. He's also up to 24 steals, to go along with 10 home runs, in what's been a bounceback season for the 26-year-old, who struggled at the plate in 2015 and 2014.
Aug 10 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a walk and a pair of doubles and runs scored in the Diamondbacks extra innings win over the Mets on Wednesday.Segura had been just a bit cold of late, hitting just .254 over his previous 15 games entering Wednesday, but turned things around with the three-hit day. The solid night raised Segura's batting average to .311 on the year, and the doubles give him 41 extra-base hits, more than respectable for a leadoff hitter.
Aug 8 2016Segura went 2-for-5 and tallied his 19th steal of the season in Sunday's win over the Brewers.Segura also went 2-for-5 on Saturday, a game in which he collected his 10th home run of the season. On the heels of disappointing 2014 and 2015 seasons, Segura has been electric this year. His slash line is now up to .309/.357/.455, rates which would all be career bests for the 26-year-old.
Aug 3 2016Segura is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals. It looks to be nothing more than a rare day off for Segura, who went 1-for-5 in Tuesday's loss to Washington. Arizona will go with Brandon Drury at second base, and he'll hit seventh in the order.
Jul 31 2016Segura went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI in Saturday's victory over the Dodgers.Segura opened the game with a leadoff homer in the top of the first to propel the D'Backs to just their third win in their past 11 games. The infielder now has nine longballs on the year and is on pace to break his career-high home run total (12) set in 2013 with the Brewers. Segura has been stroking this month, hitting .316 with six doubles, four homers, eight RBI and 16 runs over 95 at-bats.
Jul 27 2016Batting third for the first time this season, Segura went 1-for-4 with a run in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. He also walked once.Segura has led off all but four times this season, and in the previous three instances, he batted ninth. It remains to be seen whether the lineup change will stick, but Segura could see an uptick in RBI if he keeps batting third, though he may run a bit less if he's immediately before slugger Paul Goldschmidt.
Jul 27 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run in an 8-1 bashing of the Brewers on Wednesday. That's now a nine-game hitting streak for the 26-year-old shortstop, who's delivered five hits and a walk in the first three games of this four-game set against his old Brewers mates. Segura has served as Arizona's No. 3 hitter in consecutive contests, but Jake Lamb (hand) has missed both those games; the breakout third baseman's absence from the cleanup spot has pushed Paul Goldschmidt down to No. 4 in the lineup, opening up the three-hole for Segura. Lamb shouldn't be out long, so take advantage in DFS with Segura getting at least one more game as the third hitter Thursday against the Brewers.
Jul 22 2016Segura went 2-for-3 with a solo homer Friday at the Reds.Segura's eighth bomb of 2016 led off the game for the Diamondbacks in a losing effort. He's now hit safely in 12 of 15 July games, and he's slashing .314/.359/.451 on the season.
Jul 21 2016Segura went 3-for-4 with a run in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays. After a solid first half of the season, Segura is right back at it after the All-Star break. In five games since the break, the 26-year-old is 7-for-22 with four runs, one home run and a stolen base. For the season, he is now slashing .311/.356/.441.
Jul 8 2016Segura (triceps) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.A bruised left triceps muscle forced Segura from Wednesday's game but clearly it was a relatively minor setback, as the 26-year-old is good to go following Thursday's team off day. Segura hasn't hit a home run since May 9 but he's still batting .317/.363/.443 for the season, and the stolen bases have been piling up over the past month or so (nine steals since June 9).
Jul 6 2016Segura went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Padres.Segura wasn't named to the NL All-Star roster Tuesday, but his first-half play has been All-Star caliber. He's now slashing .318/.362/.444 and has revitalized his career in his first season with the Diamondbacks.
Jul 6 2016Segura left Wednesday's game with a bruised left tricep, as X-rays were negative. The Diamondbacks are off Thursday, so Segura will have a day to rest prior to the weekend series in San Francisco, but Arizona may just opt to give him a full week off before the second half starts. Phil Gosselin, who replaced Segura at second base Wednesday, figures to see some action at the keystone if Segura misses further time. More news about his status should be available in the coming days.
Jul 5 2016Segura stole two bases in a 3-for-5 game with a run scored in Monday's loss to San Diego.Segura also extended his hit streak to eight games with the performance and has elevated his batting line to .313/.358/.435. He now has 15 stolen bases to go with that solid line, and he seems destined to make his first All-Star appearance since 2013, and if he stays healthy, he will easily attain his fourth straight season with at least 20 steals.
Jun 27 2016Segura went 3-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Rockies and scored three runs.Like a lot of players, Segura enjoyed his trip to Coors Field. Over four games, he went 7-for-16 with eight runs, three RBI and three steals. After a brief slump earlier this month, Segura is closing out June nicely and has the average up to .311.
Jun 19 2016Segura is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. With five multi-hit efforts in his last eight starts, Segura's fantasy value is on the rise again, but he'll get the afternoon off for rest Sunday. Phil Gosselin will cover the keystone at hit leadoff in Segura's stead.
Jun 15 2016Segura went 4-for-4 with two runs in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.Consider Segura's slump over, as he now is riding a six-game hitting streak and is 12-for-24 during that span. For the second straight game, Segura was the only Arizona player to collect multiple hits. He's now batting .309/.345/.445 on the season.
Jun 14 2016Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's win over the Dodgers. In a game in which the Diamondbacks had just six hits, Segura was the only player with at least two. The 26-year-old seems to be breaking out of his slump, with hits in five straight games. Three of those were multi-hit efforts.
Jun 11 2016Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a steal in Friday's loss to the Marlins.Segura has been in a slump the last few weeks, so it was nice to see him notch a multi-hit game, his first since May 29. The steal was also a welcome sight, as Segura hadn't swiped a bag since May 20.
Jun 7 2016Segura went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Rays, dropping his season average to .294.Segura is in a slump right now, going just 9-for-48 (.188) over the last two weeks. After an incredibly hot start to the season, it's not too surprising to see the 26-year-old's numbers regress, especially considering he's a career .269 hitter and has never had a season average above .294. Segura is still worth owning, however, as his speed and run-scoring potential atop the Arizona lineup make him a fantasy asset so long as he's getting on base.
Jun 5 2016Segura is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.Segura will be awarded his first day off since May 25, giving way to Phil Gosselin at second base. The 26-year-old has cooled off a bit following a hot start, as he had a .885 OPS at the end of April, but owns just a .682 mark since.
May 31 2016Segura went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI Tuesday against Houston. The leadoff man only recorded one hit, but he made it count as it was a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Segura has recorded hits in three straight games, and his average remains above the .300 mark even though he's hit only .186 over the past 10 games. As long as he makes contact, he will be fine.
May 26 2016Segura (head) is back in the lineup Thursday against the Pirates, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.Segura went to the hospital after taking a pitch to the head Tuesday and was subsequently held out of Wednesday's lineup. However, he was not diagnosed with a concussion, and he'll return to his usual spot atop the lineup Thursday. Brandon Drury, who started at second base Wednesday, will shift to right field and bat fifth.
May 25 2016Segura is out of Wednesday's lineup but he is not headed to the seven-day concussion list, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.Segura was hit in the head with a pitch in Tuesday's game and taken to the hospital. However, the Diamondbacks did not make any roster moves on Wednesday, meaning Segura won't be headed to the concussion list. He figures to slot in at the top of the order again soon.
May 24 2016Segura was taken to the hospital following Tuesday's game after showing signs of a concussion after getting hit in the head by a pitch, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports. This was certainly the fear when Arquimedes Caminero hit Segura in the head with a 96 mph fastball. Segura got up quickly and walked off under his own power, but it now sounds like he could be diagnosed with a concussion. Look for his status to be updated Wednesday. Nick Ahmed was also hit above the shoulders by a pitch from Caminero on Tuesday, so the D-Backs may be stretched thin up the middle in the short term.
May 24 2016Segura left Tuesday's game under his own power after getting hit in the head by a 96 mph fastball, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports. He was down on the ground briefly, but quickly got up and walked off while being replaced by a pinch-runner (Michael Bourn). The fact that he was up quickly and able to walk off under his own power is encouraging. Segura was hit in the head by a pitch in May of 2015 and dodged a concussion, so hopefully the same holds true this time around.
May 17 2016Segura went 2-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI in Monday's win over the Yankees.Segura had gone 0-for-9 over his last two games, but he broke out of his mini-slump on Monday. The sample size is getting large enough to suggest that Segura could be returning to his 2013 All-Star form. He doesn't take a ton of walks (just four so far this season), but he's finding a way to get on base at a .360 clip. And Segura is driving the ball to a tune of a .512 slugging percentage, which would easily be a new career best (he slugged .423 in 2013).
May 13 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a steal and a run in a loss to the Giants on Thursday.Don't lay this one on the D-backs' leadoff man, who now owns a 10-game hitting streak and a lofty .353 average for the season. His unimpressive success rate on steals (5-for-8) and lack of walks are really the only marks against him, and they can't be considered major ones in his case. Surprisingly for the leadoff hitter in Arizona's scary lineup, Segura's only scored 19 times in 34 games -- that's not a bad rate, but it also puts him outside the National League's top 20 in runs. The culprit: still-cold slugger Paul Goldschmidt, who hasn't been driving runs in with anything resembling his usual abundance.
May 10 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with an RBI and was caught stealing in Tuesday's win over the Rockies.Once again operating out of the leadoff spot, Segura extended his season-best hitting streak to eight games and boosted his batting average to .350 in the process. While fantasy owners would rather not see Segura gunned down on the basepaths, the fact that remains aggressive in that regard bodes well for his value moving forward, with a 20-20 season looking like a distinct possibility.
May 9 2016Segura homered, his fifth, as part of a 2-for-5 game with two runs scored and and RBI in Monday's win over Colorado. In his 31st game of 2016, Segura tied his home run output from 146 games in 2014 and is now just one behind his home run output from 142 games in 2015. Segura hit 12 home runs in his All-Star season of 2013 and is finally starting to show the power that had people excited about him back then once again. Segura's batting line is up to .341/.369/.533, and while he isn't likely to keep hitting like a 20-homer-a-year slugger, Segura is making consistent contact (12.1 percent strikeout rate) and could parlay that into a great batting average this year. He hit .294/.329/.423 in his career year of 2013.
May 5 2016Segura (hip) is in the lineup Thursday against the Marlins.Segura sat out Sunday and Tuesday due to a minor hip issue, but he returned to action Wednesday night, notching a single in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter. With the injury seemingly behind him, Segura is back at his usual second base spot while serving as the leadoff hitter.
May 5 2016Segura (hip) returned to action Wednesday after missing two games, singling as a pinch hitter in a loss to the Marlins. The team said it didn't consider the injury to be serious, so it looks like Segura should return to a starting role soon. He's been a bright spot for the 12-17 Diamondbacks, posting a .339 average to go along with four home runs, 15 RBI and four steals.
May 4 2016Segura (hip) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.Although there was some speculation that Segura may return to the lineup Wednesday, the Diamondbacks decided to give him another day to rest his ailing hip. He said that he feels better, but he's still not 100 percent, so he decided not to risk a setback this early in the season. Phil Gosselin will take his spot at second base once again.
May 3 2016Segura is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup due to a hip issue, Nick Piecoro of AZCentral Sports reports. This makes it a bit clearer as to why Arizona decided to keep the young middle infielder on the bench Sunday and now Tuesday. That being said, the issue isn't considered serious, and Segura could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday. Phil Gosselin will likely see an uptick in playing time while Segura treats this ailment.
May 3 2016Segura is not in the lineup Tuesday for the series opener against the Marlins. This is the second game in a row that Segura has not started. The young middle infielder hadn't had a day off since April 17, so the Diamondbacks are likely just trying to rest him more now to avoid overworking him over the long season. Once again, Phil Gosselin will play second base in his place, batting leadoff.
May 1 2016Segura is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Rockies.Segura hasn't received a day off since April 17, so the 26-year-old shortstop was likely overdue for a maintenance day. Philip Gosselin will take over at the keystone and bat leadoff in Segura's stead.
Apr 25 2016Segura hit his fourth home run as part of a 4-for-6 game with three RBI in Monday's win over St. Louis.Segura extended his hit streak to five games in the process as he continues a blistering April with his new team in Arizona. Segura's line is up to .352/.379/.571. He already has 10 extra-base hits this season after mustering just 21 in 142 games last year. Even if Segura does cool off, he has a fantastic 11.6 percent strikeout rate, and good things tend to happen when you make contact that often.
Apr 21 2016Segura went 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and a run against the Giants on Thursday. His April onslaught continues -- Segura's .338 average and .375 OBP at the top of the Arizona order have been a big reason the team's a game above .500 in the early going. A shortstop his whole career, Segura's been moved to second base this season, but got his first start of the year at short Thursday with Nick Ahmed getting most of the day off.
Apr 19 2016Segura went 3-for-6 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Giants. After sitting out Sunday, Segura had a productive return to the lineup. He had cooled some (5-for-26 over his previous seven games) following a scorching start, but he looks to be back in a groove already. As long as he continues to hit, he should be a decent source of runs and stolen bases atop Arizona's lineup.
Apr 17 2016Segura is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, according to Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona.Segura has cooled off since his hot start, going just 5-for-26 over his last seven games, so manager Chip Hale decided to give him a mental break Sunday. Brandon Drury will get the start at second base Sunday in Segura's place.
Apr 10 2016Segura is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Cubs.Segura has started each of the first six games for Arizona, and although the sample size is small, he's posted a 1.368 OPS with three home runs. The shortstop is just 3-for-17 in his career against Sunday's starter Jake Arrieta, however, so he'll get a well-deserved day off. Phil Gosselin will man the keystone in his stead.
Apr 9 2016Segura went 3-for-4 in Friday's win over the Cubs with two runs and his second steal of the season.Segura's torrid start continues. Through five games, he's batting an absurd .500 with six runs, three home runs and five RBI. Obviously the batting average will come down, but the change of scenery might be just what Segura needed to get back to his 2013 levels, when he made the All-Star Game.
Apr 8 2016Segura hit an in-the-ballpark home run as well as one of the more traditional variety in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.Unfortunately for the Cubbies, that in-the-parker cost them more than just a run, as power-hitting left fielder Kyle Schwarber was hurt in a collision with center fielder Dexter Fowler as the two tried to run down Segura's fly ball deep into the gap. For Segura's part, he's collected four consecutive two-hit games -- including three homers, a triple and a steal -- to open the year. After two consecutive seasons of unimpressive production, it could be that a change of scenery to Arizona's supercharged lineup was just what Segura needed to jump-start his once-promising career.
Apr 7 2016Segura went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies and added his first steal of the year. He's now 6-for-14 to begin the season.Segura is turning a hot spring training (.469 average in 64 at-bats) into a hot first week of the regular season. With his speed and place atop a potent Arizona lineup, Segura could be a solid contributor of steals and runs if he continues to get on base at a good clip.
Apr 5 2016Segura homered and tripled as he knocked in three runs in Tuesday's win over the Rockies.Segura finished with seven total bases, just the sixth time he has reached that mark in his career, the last coming May 31 for Milwaukee against the Diamondbacks themselves. Segura has not been able to find anything resembling a power stroke since his All-Star campaign in 2013, as he posted a .331 slugging percentage in 288 games in 2014 and 2015.
Apr 1 2016Manager Chip Hale said Friday that Segura, Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed will rotate around between second base and shortstop, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. This doesn't affect Segura's fantasy value in any meaningful way, as he's still expected to see everyday playing time between the two middle-infield positions. Ahmed and Owings figure to split the leftover at-bats. Segura has been on an absolutely torrid run throughout the spring (1.317 OPS) and Hale said earlier this week that he feels "comfortable" with the 26-year-old as his leadoff hitter.
Mar 30 2016Diamondbacks General Manager Dave Stewart said Tuesday he thinks Segura has "done enough to earn a spot every day," Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.Stewart did not say whether Segura would play at shortstop or second base, although the 26-year-old has only played short in his big league career. The Diamondbacks have a number of options to fill the infield, but it appears that Segura will get regular at-bats. He hit just .257 last year with a .281 on-base percentage, but he has recorded at least 20 steals in each of his three full big league seasons.
Mar 30 2016Manager Chip Hale said Wednesday that he feels "comfortable" with Segura being the team's leadoff hitter, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.Segura has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball this spring, going 29-for-55 (.527 average) with three homers, 11 RBI and five steals in eight attempts. He's only walked twice, though, after walking at just a 2.2 percent clip in his final year in Milwaukee. Regardless, the team thinks Segura has earned everyday at-bats, either at second base or shortstop, and it sounds like he will push A.J. Pollock (elbow) to the two-hole at least to begin the season.
Mar 11 2016Segura (knee) is expected to play in Saturday's game against the Royals, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The issue was never thought to be serious and a setback-free performance Saturday should be all we need to think Segura has healed. He'll return with a clear lead for the starting shortstop role.
Mar 9 2016Segura was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to knee soreness and is expected to miss Thursday's game as well, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.Manager David Hale said the issue is not serious, as the young shortstop apparently just slid on some hard dirt Tuesday and is still sore from it. He'll take a couple days off to heal, but should be good going forward as long as he doesn't aggravate the injury down the road.
Mar 9 2016Segura was scratched from Wednesday's lineup, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The team has not yet provided a reason for the move, but an update figures to come in short order. Consider Segura day-to-day until the D-Backs say otherwise.
Mar 5 2016Segura connected for a solo home run on Friday and is 5-for-6 this spring, the Arizona Republic reports.Segura batted leadoff again and said he feels "comfortable" in that spot. Obviously its early, but Segura could be valuable if he returns to form in Arizona's potent lineup. Segura batted just .257 and .246 the last two years, with 11 combined home runs and 44 total stolen bases. But he batted .294 with 12 home runs and 44 steals in 2013, a year he made the All-Star Game.
Mar 3 2016Segura could play "almost every day" if he can handle playing second base per Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale, Jack Magruder of Fanragsports.com reports. With Nick Ahmed flashing gold glove level defensive ability last year, Segura's best chance at playing time will be at second base. Segura certainly has the arm and range for the position, as he has been a solid shortstop, but sometimes the differences in double play turns and other second base specific plays can trip up an otherwise talented middle infielder. Segura will get his first game action at the position for the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Mar 2 2016Segura went 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot in the Diamondbacks' Cactus League opener on Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.Acquired from Milwaukee in a trade at the end of January, Segura could have some fantasy value if he ends up sticking at the top of the order and hitting in front of guys like A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt for the bulk of the year. Segura played short on Wednesday, and he could also see time at second base this spring.
Feb 23 2016Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale says Segura will see time at shortstop and second base this spring, Fox Sports Arizona's Steve Berthiaume reports.Segura has solely played shortstop in his four big league seasons. He is expected to play almost every day for Arizona, and it would only boost his value if he gained second base eligibility. Segura also might bat second in the order to start the season, which could give him plenty of run-scoring opportunities in front of slugger Paul Goldschmidt.
Jan 15 2016Segura agreed to a one-year contract with the Brewers on Friday, avoiding arbitration. The surface numbers from 2015 look remarkably similar to those from 2014, but Segura's strikeout and walk rates both represented career-worst marks, with his walk rate falling to a paltry 2.2%. He did reach 20 steals for a third straight season, and he should have the starting role to himself if the Brewers hold onto him, but he's shown little over the past couple years to lend hope to a repeat of his 2013 season at any point in the future.
Sep 20 2015Segura is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds.Segura continues to see most of the starts at shortstop, but will receive a day off Sunday following a 0-for-9 stretch at the plate over the last two contests.
Sep 17 2015Segura went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Cardinals on Thursday. He's picked up extra-base knocks in three of the last four games, but that doesn't add a lot of shine to what's been another bad season for Segura. It was hoped that last year was an anomaly because of personal and injury issues, plus something of a sophomore slump, but this season may be proving that 2013 was in fact the outlier, as Segura has achieved only mild improvements in his statistics.
Sep 14 2015Segura went 3-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases and runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Pirates.Segura served as the Brewers' leadoff hitter with Scooter Gennett out of the lineup, reaching base four times and running wild on Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli. After a dismal 2014 campaign, Segura has bounced back in an under-the-radar fashion this season, providing a respectable .272 average to go along with a 24-for-30 success rate on the basepaths.
Sep 11 2015Segura is not in the lineup Friday against the Pirates.Segura has started in each of the previous seven games, collecting nine hits in that span, but he'll get a day off Friday. Luis Sardinas will draw the start at shortstop in his stead and bat sixth.
Sep 2 2015Segura went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs against the Pirates on Wednesday.Mired in a season-long slump, Segura's been waking up over his last 10 games, racking up 15 hits in 40 at-bats (.375) though he's bizarrely been quiet on the basepaths, with only one steal in that span -- though that one back on Aug. 21 was enough to lift his total to 20 on the year, tying last season's output.
Aug 30 2015Segura went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in a 12-9 loss to the Reds on Saturday. The young shortstop provided some life to the bottom half of the Brewers lineup on Saturday in extending his recent streak of hot hitting. Segura is now sporting a .317 average (13-for-41) over his last 10 games, including five multi-hit performances in that span.
Aug 9 2015Segura went 2-for-2 with a walk and was caught stealing in Sunday's victory over the Cardinals. After wearing the golden sombrero on Friday, Segura acquitted himself well in the final game of the series, reaching base in each of his three plate appearances. After a torrid July, he's hitting just .200 with no walks or extra-base hits in 35 August at-bats.
Jul 27 2015Segura (throat) will rejoin the lineup Monday against the Giants.Segura was a precautionary scratch from Sunday's lineup with a sore throat, but a day of rest and he'll rejoin the lineup. Unless something pops up again, he should be fine again moving forward.
Jul 26 2015Segura was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Diamondbacks due to a sore throat. The issue doesn't sound like anything especially worrisome, so Segura could still be available off the bench in a pinch-hitting scenario. Hector Gomez will enter the lineup in Segura's place, batting seventh in the order.
Jul 21 2015Segura hit his fourth home run as part of a 3-for-4 game in Tuesday's win over Cleveland.Segura still isn't the same player he was in 2013, but he makes too much contact to be as consistently bad as he was in 2014, too. His batting average is up to .282 and he's well on his way to a third consecutive 20-steal season. With Tuesday's home run, he's just one away from matching last season's total.
Jul 11 2015Segura went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Friday's loss to the Dodgers.Friday's game marked the fourth time in eight games that Segura recorded three hits. Each of his three slash averages is higher than he finished with last year with, but he has tallied just 12 extra-base hits and 12 stolen bases -- far off his 2013 pace -- on the season.
Jul 1 2015Segura is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies.Segura has struggled at the plate recently, going 0-for-14 in the last three games and just 2-for-28 in the last six contests. He'll receive a day off Wednesday to clear his head, with Hernan Perez starting in his place and batting seventh for the Brewers.
Jun 15 2015Segura is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.Segura has started 16 consecutive games since returning from a finger injury in late May, going 22-for-67 (.328 BA) with a home run, 10 runs, five RBI and two stolen bases. He'll get a well-deserved day off, allowing Hector Gomez to start at shortstop.
Jun 6 2015Segura went 2-for-4 Saturday with a run scored. He's been on fire in eight games since coming off the DL, hitting .389 (14-for-36) and pushing his slash line on the season to .290/.327/.420. Segura's been hitting seventh in the batting order, limiting his run-scoring and RBI opportunities, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him move up near the top if he keeps raking.
May 30 2015Segura went 2-for-4 Saturday with two runs scored. He's gone 3-for-8 in two games since returning from the disabled list. Segura's swing seems to be in good shape, so plug him back into your lineup if you need him.
May 29 2015Sizemore was designated for assignment Friday.Sizemore appears to be the odd man out following the news of Cody Asche's recall Friday. The veteran outfielder batted .245/.288/.296 over 39 games this season, but the outfield alignment becomes unclear at this point. Sizemore will go on waivers, and if unclaimed, could be outrighted to the minors.
May 26 2015Segura (finger) will be activated from the disabled list Friday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.X-rays recently taken on Segura's broken finger apparently came back clean, and he will return to action Friday without requiring a rehab stint, and after missing only the minimum 15 days. Segura will reclaim his role as the Brewers' starting shortstop when he is activated, which will likely send Luis Sardinas back to Triple-A.
May 24 2015Segura (finger) will undergo an X-ray on Monday, and if the bones are healed, he's expected to be activated before Friday's game, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. It's unclear whether or not Segura will require a minor league rehab assignment, but a Friday return appears on tap if the bone is healed. Upon his return, he should retake his spot as the team's everyday shortstop, pushing Luis Sardinas back to the bench.
May 14 2015Segura was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fractured right pinky finger. It's not immediately clear how long Segura will be sidelined with the setback, but he will be out at least the next two weeks. Luis Sardinas was called up to take Segura's place on the roster, but it seems likely that Hector Gomez -- the only other player to start at shortstop for the Brewers this season -- will get the first chance to replace him as the Brewers' regular shortstop.
May 13 2015Segura (finger) has been scratched from the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura was scratched due to soreness in his right pinky finger. The lineup has been shuffled, with Hector Gomez filling in at shortstop and batting seventh and Scooter Gennett playing second base and batting eighth. Elian Herrera will bat leadoff.
May 11 2015Segura is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.Segura tallied just four hits over his last eight games, so manager Craig Counsell decided to give him the day off Monday. Hector Gomez will get the start at shortstop in Segura's place.
May 9 2015Segura went 2-for-5 with his second home run of the season in the 12-4 win over the Cubs Saturday.Segura has been very effective out of the leadoff spot lately and scored two runs to go along with his solo homer. It's unfortunate for Segura, as he'll likely be pulled out of the leadoff spot once Carlos Gomez returns from his recent hip injury.
May 5 2015Segura (head) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.Segura was expected to return to action Tuesday despite taking a pitch off the front of his helmet in Sunday's game, and he will do just that. Segura will start at shortstop like he regularly does and hit seventh against Dodgers starter Zack Greinke.
May 4 2015Segura (head) isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.Segura was hit in the head by a pitch Sunday, but his CT scan came back negative Monday. He may be able to avoid a DL stint, but he'll be replaced in Monday's lineup by Hector Gomez, who'll bat eighth.
May 4 2015Segura is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Segura took a pitch to the head against the Cubs on Sunday but his CT scans came back negative and apparently is not dealing with any truly threatening implications. This move will likely demote Hector Gomez back to the dugout, although Gomez homered off Clayton Kershaw on Monday which may cause newly instated manager Craig Counsell to consider getting Gomez some extra at bats moving forward.
May 4 2015Segura's (head) CT scan returned negative Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The report also indicates that the news leaves hope that Segura wont' require a stint on the disabled list. He didn't travel with the team back from Chicago on Sunday, but a decision on his status is expected at some point Monday.
May 3 2015Segura (head) didn't return to Milwaukee with the rest of the team following Sunday's series finale with the Cubs, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura departed Sunday's game in the eighth inning after taking a pitch to the helmet, and decided to stick around in Chicago a little longer to receive further evaluation. He was reportedly experiencing symptoms of nausea, which hints that he may be nursing some sort of concussion. The Brewers do plan on having him head back to Milwaukee later in the evening, but it's looking doubtful that he'll be available for Monday's series opener against the Dodgers.
May 3 2015Segura was removed from Sunday's game against the Cubs after taking a pitch to the helmet during his eighth-inning at-bat.Segura had previously been hit in the helmet in the Brewers' season-opening series with the Rockies and was able to remain in that game, but that wouldn't be the case this time around. He fell to the ground after taking the ball to the head, and while he was able to eventually get up under his own power and take first base, the Brewers elected to pull him from the game. He'll likely be evaluated for a concussion by the Brewers' training staff.
May 2 2015Segura went 4-for-5 Saturday with a triple, a run scored, two RBI and his fifth steal of the season. He's got four multi-hit performances in his last eight games, although Segura also has four ohfers to balance them out. His .298/.327/.394 slash line on the season is still right in line with his 2013 breakout, however, and at least so far it looks like the shortstop has put last season's struggles behind him.
May 2 2015Segura will bat second Saturday against the Cubs. The returning Carlos Gomez will bump Segura from the leadoff spot, but the shortstop will remain in a prominent place in the order for now. Segura is still sitting with a .270 average for the season, but he's 2-for-his-last-21, and it's possible he could be relegated to a bottom-third spot if he doesn't pick it up soon.
Apr 27 2015Segura's hot start continued Monday, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.The 25 year old shortstop has been a bright spot for what has otherwise been a tough start to the season for Milwaukee. After hitting just .246 a year ago, Segura i batting .312 so far this season.
Apr 25 2015Segura went 2-for-4 in a losing effort against St. Louis on Friday night. The Brewers are continuing to hit Segura in the leadoff role with Carlos Gomez (hamstring) on the disabled list. Gomez is nearing a return, but it will be interesting to see if Segura stays atop the lineup since Jonathan Lucroy is on the shelf with a broken toe and the Brewers may want to slide Gomez into a run-producing role. Segura is hitting .302/.333/.397 with a homer, five RBI, and three stolen bases through 17 games.
Apr 16 2015Segura will play shortstop and bat leadoff in Thursday's game against the Cardinals.Segura will handle the shortstop duties like he usually does, but he will also be bumped to the top of the batting order in place of the injured Carlos Gomez (hamstring). It's not clear how long Gomez will be sidelined, but Segura, who owns a .333/.379/.519 slash line on the season, is likely to handle the leadoff duties until Gomez is able to return.
Apr 14 2015Segura committed two throwing errors (and had another bad throw on an attempted double play that wasn't scored an error) in Monday's win over the Cardinals. The Brewers were able to escape with a sloppy win despite Segura's throwing woes. At the plate, Segura is off to a .304/.360/.522 start after Monday's 1-for-4 performance. He remained seventh in the batting order Monday even with Scooter Gennett returning to the lineup.
Apr 7 2015Segura will hit seventh in Tuesday's game against the Rockies after hitting eighth in Monday's season opener, Andrew Gruman of FOX Sports Wisconsin reports.Segura will move up a spot in the order to split up left-handed hitters Scooter Gennett and Gerardo Parra, who is starting in right field and hitting sixth Tuesday with Ryan Braun out with a side injury. Braun is not expected to be out long, but Parra will likely be the regular right fielder in Braun's absence, so Segura could continue hitting a spot higher in the order until Braun returns to the field.
Apr 7 2015Segura went 1-for-2 and scored a run after getting hit by a pitch in the fifth inning Tuesday. It was a scary moment when Segura went down immediately after getting hit in the helmet by a changeup from Jordan Lyles, but he was able to stay in the game after getting examined by the training staff.
Mar 18 2015Segura is 5-for-21 (.238) with a double and an RBI through nine games this spring. The mechanical adjustments Segura made over the winter haven't shown up in his spring statistics, as he is still experiencing the same issues with contact and power he had last season. Despite the issues, Segura still has a few weeks to try and figure things out before the regular season begins, and is locked in as the Brewers' starting shortstop.
Feb 25 2015Segura spent time during winter ball working on a mechanical adjustment that he hopes adds more power to his swing, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura tallied just 25 extra-base hits last season after racking up 42 the year before, so he went away from his flat-footed approach and began lifting his front leg -- a change he plans to carry over into the upcoming season. Segura endured a trying 2014 campaign, but if he is able to add some pop back into his game, he should be far more effective as both a hitter and fantasy option in 2015.
Sep 20 2014Segura is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates.Segura is 0-for-7 at the plate over the last three games, and will get a day off Saturday. Hector Gomez starts at shortstop in his place and will bat eighth for the Brewers.
Sep 18 2014Segura is out of the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals.Segura has never really found his way out of his season-long offensive doldrums, batting just .240/.283/.314 on the campaign. While he still ranks as the team's top option at shortstop, his offensive downturn might cause him to lose starts on occasion to Elian Herrera and Hector Gomez.
Sep 13 2014Segura is not in the lineup Saturday against the Reds.Segura's bat has come around a bit in recent weeks, with 10 base knocks in 33 September at-bats so far, though he still has just one extra-base hit since Aug. 2. He'll sit in favor of Hector Gomez on Saturday following 10 consecutive starts.
Sep 5 2014Segura (.235/.276/.314) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored on Friday against the Cardinals. It's been a rough season for Segura who has not gotten anywhere near his 2013 production. Although the three hits are nice to see, it's a little too late to expect much from Segura here on out.
Sep 2 2014Segura is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs.Segura has struggled offensively recently, and is currently on a 0-for-9 skid at the plate. Elian Herrera has received a few starts in his place recently due to the offensive woes, and will start there again Tuesday and bat eighth for the Brewers.
Aug 29 2014Segura is not in the lineup Friday for the second game in a row.Segura has struggled mightily with the bat this season, so he will sit out again Friday in favor of Elian Herrera, who tallied three hits over his last five at-bats. Segura has not lost the starting shortstop job to Herrera, but he could continue ceding starts to Herrera unless he is able to get on a hot streak with the bat.
Aug 27 2014Segura is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Padres.Segura broke out of an offensive funk in the first two games of the series, reaching base in five of his eight plate appearances. Still, he hasn't done enough just yet to dig himself out of manager Ron Roenicke's doghouse, so he could continue to see the occasional day out of the lineup. Elian Herrera will cover shortstop for him Wednesday.
Aug 24 2014Segura is not in the lineup for the second straight day Sunday against the Pirates.Segura is out Sunday despite the Brewers offering his bobblehead as a giveaway. He came in as a defensive replacement in Saturday's game after it turned into a blowout, so it doesn't appear to be an injury related matter. Elian Herrera will start at shortstop again and bat eighth for the Brewers.
Aug 23 2014Segura is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates. The decision to leave Segura on the bench was likely an easy one for manager Ron Roenicke, as the 24-year-old is 0-for-14 in his career against Saturday's starter Edinson Volquez. Elian Herrera will start at short and bat eighth in his absence. Segura has notched just one extra-base hit in his last 13 games and his .586 OPS for the season is the second lowest among qualified hitters, only better than the Reds' Zack Cozart.
Aug 17 2014Segura (hand) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.Segura missed Saturday's game after being pulled from Friday's contest due to a hand contusion, but will resume his regular role at shortstop for the Sunday afternoon tilt. He looks to be healthy moving forward, meaning Elian Herrera will return to sporadic playing time off the bench.
Aug 16 2014Segura (hand) is not in the Brewers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.Segura left Friday's game with a right hand contusion after he tried to impede a double play. He will be replaced by Elian Herrera in the lineup Saturday and will likely be a game-time decision for Sunday.
Aug 15 2014Segura was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers with a right hand contusion, according to the team's official radio broadcast. The injury occurred while Segura was attempting to break up a double play, as a throw from second base struck his right hand. Rickie Weeks pinch-hit for Segura in the eighth inning upon the shortstop's departure.
Aug 14 2014Segura is out of the lineup Thursday against the Cubs.Segura will take a seat Friday after making five consecutive starts. Elian Herrera will take over at shortstop and bat eighth against Chicago starter Edwin Jackson.
Aug 9 2014Segura (quadriceps) is back in the Brewers' lineup Saturday.Manager Ron Roenicke played it safe and held Segura out of Friday's lineup, with the 24-year-old still not 100 percent as a result of a quad injury, but Segura will return Saturday to face Zack Greinke. Segura rattled off three straight starts before sitting Friday but could always require additional maintenance in the days ahead.
Aug 8 2014Segura, who is out of the lineup Friday, is still bothered a bit by a quad injury, Andrew Gruman of FOX Sports Wisconsin reports. The quad issue has been lingering for close to a week now, but it sounds like the decision to hold Segura out Friday is more so about maintenance. Regardless, Segura should be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's tilt.
Aug 8 2014Segura is out of the Brewers' lineup Friday against the Dodgers.A bout of quad stiffness cost Segura a start last weekend, and it seems the Brewers just don't want to push their luck with the 24-year-old. Elian Herrera will step in at short and bat eighth Friday against right-hander Roberto Hernandez.
Aug 5 2014Segura (quad) is back in the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants, Fox Sports Wisconsin reports.A stiff quad held Segura out of Sunday's game against the Cardinals, but after a team off-day Monday, he returns to action to face San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum. Coming off of a dreadful month of July (.179/.220/.269), Segura will look to turn things around in August.
Aug 3 2014Segura is out of the lineup Sunday vs. the Cardinals.Segura had started all 15 games for the Brewers since the All-Star break, so manager Ron Roenicke decided the shortstop could probably use a day off. Elian Herrera will enter the lineup in his place, leaving Segura as one of the team's top pinch-hitting options off the bench for Sunday's tilt.
Aug 3 2014Segura was held out of Sunday's lineup due to a stiff quad, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. It initially appeared Segura was receiving a routine day off, but he ended up aggravating his dormant left quad injury in Saturday's loss. He ended up staying in for the entirety of the game, and will catch up on some rest during Sunday's affair.
Jul 22 2014Segura went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in the Brewers' win over the Reds on Monday night.Since the All-Star break, Segura has collect a hit in each of the Brewers' first four games. For now, he remains buried in the Milwaukee batting order, hitting mostly in front of the team's pitchers.
Jul 18 2014Segura is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.Following a return to his native Dominican Republic last weekend after the tragic passing of his young son, Segura rejoined the Brewers earlier in the week and was expected to be available. This news confirms that he'll return to the lineup, where he'll bat eighth and man his usual spot at shortstop.
Jul 17 2014Segura (personal) rejoined the Brewers on Thursday morning and will be available for the team's weekend series with the Nationals, Greg Matzek of 620 WTMJ reports.Segura had returned to his native Dominican Republic on Saturday after the unfortunate passing of his infant son. While the Brewers were willing to give Segura has much time off as he needed to cope with the tragedy, it appears the shortstop now feels ready to resume playing. Manager Ron Roenicke did mention that the club might not use Segura on an everyday basis right away just to give him some days off to clear his mind, but it should only be a short while before he returns to regular duty.
Jul 16 2014The Brewers are still in the process of trying to contact Segura to see what his plans are to rejoin the team following the tragic passing of his 9-month-old son, the Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports. "I've made phone calls today to try to make contact with him," general manager Doug Melvin said Wednesday. "I haven't been able to make contact at this time. I'm hoping to find out today. We've left messages but we haven't heard back. We just don't know right now... Whatever Jean decides, we will support him."Segura returned to the Dominican Republic last weekend after learning that his son passed away after a brief illness. Elian Herrera was recalled from Triple-A Nashville after Segura was placed on the bereavement list, and he will remain with the Brewers until the team learns of Segura's plans to rejoin Milwaukee.
Jul 15 2014Segura (personal) will return to the Brewers on his own timetable, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Teammate Aramis Ramirez said Tuesday that the funeral for Segura's nine-month-old son, who passed away last weekend in the Dominican Republican after a brief illness, was Monday.
Jul 12 2014Segura is not in the lineup Saturday against the Phillies.Jeff Bianchi will start at short for the second time in three games, as it seems manager Ron Roenicke is growing tired of Segura's offensive woes. The 24-year-old is currently in the midst of a 4-for-33 slump, which has lowered his season line down to an unsightly .232/.266/.315. Hopefully he can clear his head and rebound in the second half.
Jul 12 2014Segura was placed on the bereavement list Saturday.Tragically, Segura's nine-month-old son passed away Friday in the Dominican Republic. Elian Herrera was recalled from Triple-A Nashville.
Jul 10 2014Segura is not in the lineup Thursday against the Phillies. The offensive struggles are only compounding for Segura, who is 3-for-29 so far this month after batting .196/.239/.294 in June. He's still getting it done in the field, however, and does not appear to be in any real danger of losing his starting job, but manager Ron Roenick may be inclined to start Jeff Bianchi at short a bit more frequently until Segura turns it around at the plate.
Jul 1 2014Segura (leg) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.Manager Ron Roenicke expressed some doubt about Segura's status prior to Monday's team off day, but it appears he is feeling good enough to return to action Tuesday. Segura will man shortstop and bat ninth with the Brewers playing in an American League park in Toronto.
Jun 30 2014Segura (leg) is considered questionable for the Brewers' upcoming two-game series against the Blue Jays, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. While reports have indicated that Segura is dealing with only a minor injury -- leg cramps -- it appears he is still a bit sore despite an off day Sunday. The Brewers have Monday and Thursday off this week, so if Segura's health has not improved by Tuesday, the Brewers may opt to hold him out of both games in Toronto in order to give him a full five days of rest. Keep tabs on Segura's status if you are planning to include him in your fantasy lineup this week.
Jun 29 2014Segura (legs) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.Leg cramping led to Segura's removal from Saturday's game, and while the true extent of the issue remains uncertain, he'll be forced to miss at least one start. Segura will be afforded two full days to rest up with the team off Monday, but Jeff Bianchi will likely draw another start at short Tuesday if Segura isn't ready for the opener against the Blue Jays.
Jun 29 2014Manager Ron Roenicke said Segura (leg) could possibly be used as a pinch hitter Sunday against the Rockies, Andrew Gruman of FOXSportsWisconsin.com reports. After Segura suffered a bout with leg cramps in Saturday's game, it appears the team merely exercised caution in keeping the shortstop out of Sunday's lineup. Segura will further benefit from a team off day Monday, and he may not have to miss any starts beyond Sunday's.
Jun 28 2014Segura left Saturday's game in the sixth inning with leg cramps, MLB.com reports. No word on the severity of the injury. Elian Herrera replaced Segura in the field.
Jun 23 2014Segura had one of just three Milwaukee hits Monday night, singling and adding a stolen base.Hits have been hard to come by for the All-Star shortstop in June, which has limited his stolen base opportunities. After a 1-for-3 effort Monday, Segura is hitting just .193 for the month.
Jun 20 2014Segura went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and a couple of runs scored in Friday's win over the Rockies.Segura doubled his home run total for the campaign in this contest, so this was certainly a welcome outburst. The Brewers' shortstop has been a bit of a letdown for those that drafted him among the higher rated players at the position in fantasy drafts. At this point, Segura's first-half breakout from 2013 can be considered an abberation. Over his last 125 games, dating back to last summer's All-Star break, the 24-year-old speedster has hit .246 with just five homers. However, he has swiped 30 bags during that same stretch and is best viewed as largely a one category player for now.
Jun 18 2014Segura went 2-for-4 with two triples in Tuesday's victory over the Diamondbacks.Segura had tallied just five hits in 12 games entering Tuesday's contest, but he got back on track by doubling his triple total for the year Tuesday night. Scooter Gennett has thrived in the leadoff role for the Brewers, so expect Segura to continue hitting seventh or eighth most nights.
Jun 13 2014Segura is not in the lineup Friday against the Reds.An injury is not believed to be in play, rather it seems manager Ron Roenicke just decided it was time to get Segura a breather after 39 consecutive starts. Irving Falu will slot in at short and in the eight-hole in the order for his first start of the season.
Jun 10 2014Segura will bat eighth Tuesday against the Mets.Segura, who has been on base just three times in his last five games, will fall all the way down the eight-hole as Scooter Gennett takes over atop the order. Manager Ron Roenicke hasn't indicated whether this is a permanent move, but Segura has posted a .286 OBP to this point and it wouldn't be a surprise if he remained in the bottom third of the order for the time being.
Jun 2 2014Segura has gone 15-for-46 (.326) and scored 10 runs since taking over the leadoff duties May 22.Segura has taken a liking to the leadoff spot, as he has tallied six multi-hit efforts in 10 games since moving to the top of the lineup. The Brewers may make some lineup changes when Aramis Ramirez return in a few days, but given Segura's success, expect him to continue hitting at or near the top of the order.
May 24 2014Segura went 2-for-5 as the Brewers' leadoff hitter in a losing effort Saturday in Miami. For the second straight game, Segura was in the leadoff spot while Carlos Gomez was used as the cleanup hitter. Whether that arrangement will hold up remains to be seen, but Segura has quietly pushed his season line to .272/.304/.353 with 10 steals on the year.
May 5 2014Segura returned to the No. 2 spot in the order Monday night and went 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base.A rare day off for Jonathan Lucroy may have actually been the reason for the shift, as Scooter Gennett dropped from second to third as the Brewers continue to deal with the absence of Ryan Braun. The slash line here is still a work in progress (.248/.274/.358), but manager Ron Roenicke's willingness to give Segura the opportunity in a prominent spot -- even if it's just a temporary assignment -- is encouraging if he's able to heat up over a prolonged stretch and ultimately bump Gennett back into the bottom third of the order.
May 1 2014Segura (head) is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.Segura was able to see bit action late in the Brewers' last two games, but he will return to the starting lineup Thursday night. Segura will play shortstop and bat eighth against Reds starter Homer Bailey.
May 1 2014Segura (head) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday night, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura doubled and played an inning in the field late in Wednesday's game, so he appears set to start for the first time since being struck on the face by a bat last Friday. Be sure to check for confirmation of his status prior to first pitch.
Apr 30 2014Segura (head) was able to pinch hit in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura has appeared to make significant progress after taking an inadvertent bat to the head Saturday night, with his vision returning to the normal and the swelling starting to subside. It appears he'll remain out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale since he has yet to take on-field batting practice and field grounders, but it seems likely that he'll be back at shortstop when the Brewers travel to Cincinnati on Thursday.
Apr 30 2014Segura (head) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.Segura was able to pinch-hit in Tuesday's game, but he will be held out for another day to give the cut on his face more time to heal. Though he will sit out for the fourth straight game Wednesday, manager Ron Roenicke is optimistic that Segura will be able to return to action Thursday against the Reds.
Apr 30 2014Segura (face) is not in the lineup Wednesday for the second straight day, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.Segura was able to pinch-hit in Tuesday's game, but he will be held out at least one more day to give the cut on his face time to heal. Though he will sit out for the fourth straight game Wednesday, manager Ron Roenicke is optimistic that Segura will be able to return to action Thursday against the Reds.
Apr 28 2014Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated Monday that Segura (head) should be able to rejoin the lineup Wednesday or Thursday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "Seggy's injury is a little bit different," Roenicke said. "When that swelling goes down -- he looks better today -- and if he looks better tomorrow hopefully he can take some BP. Maybe he can see some action Wednesday or maybe we have to go to Thursday."Segura is out of the lineup Monday, and it doesn't sound like he'll play Tuesday, but he should still be considered day-to-day. Monday's game marks his third consecutive absence from the lineup, leaving Jeff Bianchi to start at shortstop.
Apr 28 2014Segura (head) remains out of the Brewers' lineup Monday in St. Louis.Segura will miss his third game in a row as a result of the bat to the face that he took from teammate Ryan Braun (ribs) on Saturday. In Segura's stead, Jeff Bianchi will cover shortstop and bat seventh in the order.
Apr 27 2014Segura (head) is not in the Brewers' starting lineup for Sunday's game versus the Cubs.Segura (head) is receiving at least one day off after being accidentally struck in the head by a practice swing from teammate Ryan Braun. Fantasy owners should check his status Monday, as it seems possible that he will be back in the lineup for the series opener versus the Cardinals.
Apr 27 2014Segura (head) appears doubtful to play Monday against the Cardinals, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.A concussion has been ruled out for Segura after he took an inadvertent bat to the face from Ryan Braun in the dugout during Saturday's game, but he'll likely miss his second straight game with a head injury nonetheless. Expect Jeff Bianchi to pick up another start in his stead.
Apr 26 2014Segura was removed from Saturday's game prior to his first at-bat due to an undisclosed injury, according to the Brewers' telecast.Jeff Bianchi stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first inning as the Brewers' No. 2 hitter when Segura was being evaluated in the clubhouse for the injury. For now, consider the young shortstop day-to-day until further details regarding the nature of his injury are revealed.
Apr 26 2014Segura (head), who did not suffer any facial fractures or a concussion after being inadvertently hit in the head by teammate Ryan Braun during Saturday's game, is unlikely to go on the disabled list, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal reports. He is not expected to play in Sunday's series finale against the Cubs. The Brewers will be very thin on their bench, however, as Segura's expected unavailability will be paired with the suspension of Martin Maldonado and the likely absence of Braun, who went on to suffer a right intercostal strain in Saturday's game. The Brewers are currently hopeful that Segura will be able to return in a matter of days, but it's expected that he will be dealing with a significant amount of swelling in the next 24-48 hours.
Apr 26 2014Brewers manager Ron Roenicke confirmed that Segura did not suffer a concussion or facial fractures after being inadvertently hit in the head by Ryan Braun in the dugout during the first inning of Saturday's game.Details regarding the specific nature of Segura's injury remain sparse, other than it's been noted that he suffered a significant gash under his eye that required stitches. That he did not suffer a concussion or facial fractures is certainly encouraging, but further information will likely surface after the details following Segura's trip to a local hospital are made public. Most likely, he'll be out of the lineup Sunday as it's expected that Segura will experience significant swelling over the next 24-48 hours.
Apr 26 2014Segura left Saturday's game after the top of the first inning after being hit in the head by the bat of Ryan Braun in the dugout between innings.Braun was loosening up with a bat on the top step of the Brewers' dugout when Segura was hit in the side of the head while walking behind Braun. Segura was helped out of the dugout by members of the Brewers' medical staff and is almost certainly being evaluated for a concussion and other head injuries.
Apr 23 2014Segura went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Wednesday night against the Padres. For the second night in a row Segura batted eighth in the order, but perhaps hitter homer No. 1 will help him break out of his early-season slump and move back up in the order. He'll need to show more consistency if he intends to return to the two-spot, as he's currently sitting on an OBP of just .273.
Apr 22 2014Segura will bat eighth in the order Tuesday against the Padres.Segura slipped to the No. 6 spot Monday, and will move down to eighth with Jonathan Lucroy returning to the lineup. It seems Scooter Gennett will continue to bat second for the time being, as Segura tries to get back on track without the pressures of batting near the top of the order.
Apr 21 2014Segura will bat seventh in the order Monday night against the Padres.Segura has batted second in the Brewers' lineup for all but two games this season, but will move down in the order Monday night, while Scooter Gennett moves up to the two-spot. Segura, who is hitting just .233 to start the season, should have the chance to reclaim his spot in the order once he begins to show more consistency at the plate.
Apr 14 2014Segura had two of Milwaukee's three hits Monday, as Lance Lynn baffled the Brewers. No Brewer could manage much of anything against the Cardinals hurler, but Segura ended the night with his second double of the season. The shortstop is hitting .261 with three stolen bases to start the season.
Apr 8 2014Segura is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.Segura has had two days to rest his sore shoulder and erase the misplays he made Saturday from his memory, so consider him fresh for Tuesday's game. Segura will man shortstop and bat second in the Brewers' batting order.
Apr 6 2014Segura is not in the starting lineup Sunday against Boston, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. With Segura getting a day off, Jeff Bianchi draws into the lineup for manager Ron Roenicke, while Rickie Weeks is batting second for the Brewers.
Apr 4 2014Segura is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox.Segura was held out of the Brewers' last game Wednesday to give his sore shoulder two days to rest, but he will return to action Friday. As he typically will, Segura will play shortstop and bat second against Red Sox starter Jake Peavy.
Apr 2 2014Segura is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Braves.Manager Ron Roenicke mentioned that he planned to give Segura a few days off early on in the season after the shortstop dealt with a sore shoulder for much of the spring, so his absence from Wednesday's lineup isn't overly surprising. Jeff Bianchi will draw the start in his stead and bat seventh.
Mar 31 2014Segura and the Brewers have temporarily halted talks of a contract extension, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura's agent, Joe Kleine, had been discussing a contract extension with Brewers' general manager Doug Melvin during spring training, but the two sides were too far apart to take negotiations to the next step. Although Segura isn't eligible for salary arbitration until after 2015, the 24-year-old All-Star is clearly part of their future plans, so the two sides wanted to at least break the ice regarding a pending extension. Instead, talks will pause for the time being, and Segura will focus solely on following up his impressive 2013 campaign.
Mar 30 2014Segura (shoulder) will be in the Opening Day lineup, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Manager Ron Roenicke confirmed that Segura will start at shortstop Monday, despite the fact that he hasn't played at all since March 18. Structural damage has been ruled out, so Segura likely can't injure the shoulder further by playing. Look for him to bat second against Braves right-hander Julio Teheran.
Mar 30 2014Segura (shoulder) is officially on the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Segura's availability for the start of the season appeared in jeopardy as a result of his shoulder soreness, but the 24-year-old has been able to play catch in recent days and looks like a go for Opening Day. An MRI earlier in the week showed Segura's shoulder is structurally sound, so the Brewers probably feel it's safe to have him play through any remaining discomfort.
Mar 29 2014Segura (shoulder) reported no discomfort while throwing Saturday and now looks likely to play in Monday's season opener against the Braves, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura will attempt to throw again Sunday, and with another session, he'll more than likely receive clearance to suit up at shortstop Monday. The 24-year-old March 18, and could be a little sluggish at the plate initially, as he looks to shake off some rust.
Mar 27 2014Segura (shoulder) played catch Thursday and threw "real well," according to manager Ron Roenicke, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Segura's Opening Day status is still up in the air, but it's not looking good with the start of the season just days away. The Brewers sent Segura for an MRI earlier in the week, and fortunately, the shoulder was found to be structurally sound, but don't be surprised if Jeff Bianchi is manning short Monday.
Mar 26 2014Segura (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which was returned negative, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The sore throwing shoulder has now cost Segura a full week of action, but fantasy owners can rest a bit easier knowing there's no muscle tear. While manager Ron Roenicke is still hoping Segura can avoid a DL stint to begin the year, he's not yet willing to rule out the possibility.
Mar 26 2014Segura's Opening Day status is in jeopardy due to his lingering shoulder injury, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura's injury has been considered minor, but he is still unable to play the field after missing a week's worth of games, so it remains to be seen if he will have enough time to recover and get in some game action prior to Opening Day. Those who already own or are considering drafting Segura in fantasy leagues should be sure to keep tabs on his status leading up to the beginning of the regular season.
Mar 25 2014Segura (shoulder) remains out of the lineup Tuesday for a sixth straight game, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura was expected to return Tuesday, but will be held out yet again due to the sore throwing shoulder. It's getting to the point where Segura's Opening Day availability could be in jeopardy, but the Brewers suggested last week that this is nothing especially serious. Still, durability has been a question mark with Segura since his time with the Angels, and if he needs a DL stint to begin the year, Jeff Bianchi will likely fill in at short.
Mar 23 2014Segura (shoulder) remains out of the lineup Sunday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura's set to miss a fifth straight game with the sore throwing shoulder, but he is expected to return Tuesday. Assuming he does make it back early next week, Segura should be fine to open the year as the team's shortstop and No. 2 hitter, but he likely can't afford any sort of setback.
Mar 22 2014Segura (shoulder) will bat second in the Brewers lineup to start the season, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Carlos Gomez has been named the leadoff hitter in Milwaukee, which pits Segura between Gomez and Ryan Braun in the Brewers' order, which is a pretty nice spot to be from a fantasy perspective. Given Gomez's speed, when he reaches, he will often swipe second base in front of Segura, which should give the young shortstops plenty of RBI opportunities. He should also be a runs machine if he can get on base at a solid clip, with sluggers like Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Jonathan Lucroy batting behind him in the order. Of course, perhaps more pressing is Segura's health, as he was held out of the lineup again Saturday with arm/shoulder soreness. We're operating under the assumption that he'll be ready for Opening Day, but it would be nice to see him get back out there for game action soon.
Mar 22 2014Segura (shoulder) was not in the lineup Saturday, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. As Opening Day nears, Segura's arm/shoulder soreness starts to become a little worrisome. Owners of the speedy shortstop will want to monitor his status over the upcoming week, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.
Mar 21 2014Segura (arm soreness) is out of the lineup Friday for a second straight day, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. This isn't ideal with Opening Day a mere 10 days away, but apparently the arm soreness is nothing serious. Segura has notched just two extra-base hits in 41 spring at-bats thus far, and he posted a .583 OPS in the second half of last season, but Segura should at least help out in steals and batting average even if there is a drop in the power department.
Feb 27 2014Segura appears to be the leading candidate to bat leadoff for the Brewers this season, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The Norichika Aoki trade created a hole atop the batting order for Milwaukee, and it looks like Segura may be the man to fill it. Manager Ron Roenicke said Segura's "not the typical guy to do it because he's aggressive," but the 23-year-old's ability to hit for high average and his speed make him a likely option. Segura posted a .329 OBP and drew just 35 walks last season, batting primarily in the No. 2 hole.
Sep 29 2013Segura is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets.Segura returned from a nine-game absence Saturday, and went 0-for-4 before being lifted in the eighth inning. Manager Ron Roenicke removed him so he could play Sunday, but it seems Segura is experiencing renewed hamstring discomfort after his return to game action. It's a tough way to end an otherwise strong season.
Sep 28 2013Segura (hamstring) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Mets.Segura's return looked to be in jeopardy with the season nearing its end, but he'll slot back in at shortstop for the Brewers following a nine-game hiatus. Manager Doug Melvin indicated the team will attempt to reach a long-term deal with Segura in the offseason with the 23-year-old turning in an impressive campaign in his first year as a full-time starter, batting .296/.331/.426 with 12 homers and 44 stolen bases.

Roenicke said that Segura's hamstring is back to 100 percent and there is a "strong possibility" he is starting Saturday. The youngster has been ruled out of playing winter ball in the offseason to limit the heavy workload he has had over the past calendar year. Check in on his status when lineups are posted early for the day game against the Mets on Saturday.

Sep 25 2013Segura (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Wednesday.Segura attempted to test his hamstring with some running Tuesday, but it reportedly did not go well, and Segura's availability for the rest of the season is in question. He'll have to show he's 100 percent to have any chance of playing in the team's final series against the Mets.
Sep 24 2013Segura tested his strained hamstring Tuesday but "it did not go well," according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.McCalvy did not elaborate much on the issue, but he did go on to note that Segura will have to be 100 percent to play in the team's upcoming series against the Mets. In light of this news, it seems likely that Segura's season is over, as the Brewers have nothing to gain by rolling the dice with their budding star.
Sep 24 2013Segura (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Braves.Segura will miss a sixth straight start with the hamstring ailment, but manager Ron Roenicke recently expressed hope that he'll have Segura available in some capacity in the series against Atlanta. It appears Segura will get some work in during the teams' final road trip, even though it may be in a limited capacity. Fantasy owners that have capitalized on the young shortstop's breakout season should have a backup plan in store for down the stretch.
Sep 22 2013Segura (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Sunday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. With Segura still unable to go, Jeff Bianchi will make his fourth straight start at shortstop for Milwaukee. Sep 20 2013Segura (hamstring) could miss a few days due to his strained hamstring, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Segura suffered the injury while scoring from second base during Wednesday's game. While it does not appear to be anything that could hamper him long-term, the team will be careful with its young All-Star with only 10 games left in the season. "He's day to day but that doesn't mean tomorrow," manager Ron Roenicke said. "We're not going to be dumb about this. I'd like to get him back out there but not at the risk of putting him back out there too early."
Sep 20 2013Segura (hamstring) is not in the lineup Friday against the Cardinals. No surprise here, as manager Ron Roenicke suggested Segura would be out at least a few days after straining his hamstring Wednesday. Jeff Bianchi figures to remain at shortstop until Segura is ready to go.
Sep 19 2013Segura (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.It does not appear that Segura's hamstring injury is serious, but with Thursday's game counting for little more than draft positioning, it comes as no surprise that Segura will sit out. Jeff Bianchi will get the start at shortstop Thursday afternoon.
Sep 18 2013Segura left Wednesday's game against the Cubs with a strained hamstring, MLB.com reports.Segura walked and scored a run in the game before leaving. Sep 4 2013Segura is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates, MLB.com's Mike Vassallo reports.Segura will get his first day off since July, and Jeff Bianchi will fill in at shortstop. Segura seems to be heating up a bit, with a .302 batting average over his last 10 games, but still hasn't homered since July 30
Sep 4 2013Segura's absence from Wednesday's lineup is due to an illness, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Assuming Segura's illness isn't too debilitating, he should be back in the lineup Friday, when the Brewers kick off their series with the Cubs.
Aug 17 2013Segura went 3-for-5 with a triple, one RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base against the Reds on Friday. While Segura has slowed down considerably here in the second half, batting just .265 with one home run, eight RBI and nine stolen bases, he is still well on his way to a phenomenal rookie season. His power was unexpected, but his speed is why he was drafted as a late-round sleeper in the first place. As a shortstop with that kind of speed, Segura becomes a fantastic protect for next year in keeper leagues while he will immediately be bumped up to top five status at the position next year in re-draft leagues.
Aug 2 2013Segura is back in the starting lineup Friday against the Nationals, Brewers Senior Director of Media Relations Mike Vassallo reports.A second straight day out of the lineup on Thursday gave fantasy owners reason to pause, but it seems the Brewers just wanted to give the 23-year-old another day in order to get back to 100 percent. Segura was hit by a pitch on the forearm last weekend and was forced to miss a game as a result.
Jul 31 2013Segura is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.Segura's absence is somewhat odd considering he sat out the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, but perhaps manager Ron Roenicke just wanted to give him a true off day. Jeff Bianchi starts at shortstop.
Jul 30 2013Segura is not in the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader with the Cubs on Tuesday, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura played well in the first game going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Jul 29 2013Segura (forearm) is back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.Segura left Saturday's game in the sixth inning after being hit in the forearm by a pitch. Tightness in the arm kept him out of the lineup Sunday, but the All-Star is back in the lineup and batting third Monday.
Jul 28 2013Segura (forearm) said he does not expect to play Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Forearm tightness is the official diagnosis for Segura, who was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning of Saturday's game. He's now batting .323 and is on pace to finish with 20 homers, 66 RBI, 92 runs, and 50 steals.
Jul 4 2013Segura went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.Things looked bad for Segura when he was hit in the hand by a pitch in his first at-bat, but after writhing in pain for a little bit before taking his base, he quickly stole second. He went on to record two more hits and steal another base later in the game to provide a major spark to the Brewers offense, as he has all season.
Jul 2 2013Segura is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.Segura has started every game for the Brewers since June 2, but he will get a day off after going just 2-for-15 in his last three games. Jun 8 2013Segura went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and a stolen base on Saturday against the Phillies.Segura, the electric young shortstop for the Brewers, kept impressing on Saturday. He hit his ninth home run of the season in the third inning off Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick and stole his 17th base. Not on the stat sheet was the mayhem he caused on the bases in the 7th when he stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored a difference-making insurance run on a Ryan Braun RBI-single. His exciting play all over the field is great for fantasy and just plain fun to watch.
Jun 7 2013Segura was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base in the Brewers come-from-behind win over Philadelphia on Friday night. He continues to fill up the boxscore with a .339 batting average, 16 stolen bases, and now, eight triples. Jun 2 2013Segura is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.Perhaps the team MVP for the Brewers at the season's one-third mark, Segura will receive the day off Sunday after cooling down ever so slightly since his six-hit night Tuesday. May 14 2013The Brewers made long-term contract offer to Segura about a month ago, his agent reported to MLB.com. "Right now, I guess it's in my court," agent Joe Klein said. "But with a guy this young, it's hard to figure out what the right numbers would be. It would be good, be nice if it was possible to do. But I don't know. It's way, way on the drawing board."At any rate, even when you factor in a likely regression in terms of batting average, the Brewers' trade of a half-season of Zack Greinke for Segura looks like a masterstroke.
May 13 2013Segura had another excellent game Monday against the Pirates as he went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and one RBI.Segura is hitting a staggering .368 with 13 stolen bases in his first full season in the majors. While it's unlikely that he will continue to hit at this pace, he should finish the season with a solid average and provide fantasy owners with plenty of steals.
May 11 2013Segura went 4-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored and a steal in Saturday's 13-7 loss to the Reds.Another day, another dinger for Mean Jean, who's now gone for multiple hits in four of his last six starts. The nine steals have him three off the National League lead, and with nice totals across the board so far this year, Segura's 2013 season appears primed to be a true star-making campaign.
May 10 2013Segura was 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in a losing effort against Cincinnati Friday night. The home run, his fifth on the year, was the front half of back-to-back blasts by he and Ryan Braun, but the Brewers didn't mount many threats thereafter. Apr 28 2013Segura has rejoined the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers, after sitting out Saturday due to a split fingernail on his index finger, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Considering he sat out just once due to the concern, we're not incredibly concerned with this ailment. With a stolen base in six of the past eight games, it'll be interesting to see how Segura slides into a base, if in fact he is successful at the plate Sunday.
Apr 28 2013Segura (finger) went 1-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. It appears that he's good to go this week, though occasionally fingernail and blister problems can recur - though that's usually more often a problem with pitchers than position players.
Apr 27 2013Segura went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base against the Dodgers on Friday. It was another solid game for Segura who is now batting .359 with seven stolen bases this season for the Brewers. Apr 27 2013The Brewers scratched Segura from Saturday's lineup after he injured his fingernail in batting practiceAlex Gonzalez shifted over to short to cover the position in Segura's absence. The injury should not hold him out for more than a day or two.

Apr 21 2013Segura was 0-for-3 with one walk, two runs scored, and one stolen base as the Brewers held off the Cubs on Sunday.Segura was a bother on the basepaths, as a throwing error during a fourth-inning stolen base set him up at third for an easy run home to put Milwaukee on the board. He was later safe on Cubs starter Scott Feldman's fielding error in the fifth, which was followed by Ryan Braun's moon shot to left field. Even though Segura failed to notch a hit for only the third time this season, his presence was felt in other ways Sunday and even aided fantasy squads.

Apr 8 2013Segura (quad) will not play in Monday's game against the Cubs, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. The injury Segura suffered Sunday was not as serious as it looked, but it will prevent him from taking the field Monday. Segura is considered day-to-day, so don't expect his absence to stretch much further.
Apr 7 2013Segura left Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks with a bruised left quad, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. It's a tough blow to take for the Brewers, especially after they placed Aramis Ramirez on the DL earlier this weekend and are playing their backup shortstop (Alex Gonzalez) at first base while Corey Hart is sidelined. Yuniesky Betancourt would seem to be the top candidate to fill in at shortstop if Segura should be shelved for any length of time.
Apr 6 2013Segura went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Diamondbacks on Friday.Segura is off to a strong start this season, hitting safely in each of the first four games and batting .429 (6-for-14) with the one home run and two walks. He's been a nice addition considering his late-round draft position and could be a good source of cheap stolen bases soon enough.
Mar 23 2013Segura has gone 6-for-17 (.353) with a triple, two runs scored, and a stolen base over his last spring games.Segura continues to get his hits and is now sporting a robust .333 over 15 spring games. He will open the season near the bottom of the Brewers' order, but with Alex Gonzalez likely seeing most of his action at first base to start the year, expect Segura to be in the lineup nearly every day.
Mar 6 2013Segura is 7-for-16 with two RBI and a stolen base through six spring games.Segura has walked just once this spring, but he has two doubles, a triple, and has yet to strike out. He's batting .276 on the year and has 18 runs scored, 14 RBI and seven stolen bases over 134 at-bats. He's not known for his power, but he can hit for a decent average and his glove will certainly keep him in the lineup regularly.
Sep 26 2012Segura is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Brewers Director of Media Relations Mike Vassallo reports.Segura has been swinging the bat well of late, bringing his average up to .272 since debuting with the team in early August. He remains mostly a player to monitor for next season.
Sep 15 2012Segura went 2-for-3 with a steal in the Brewers' win over the Mets on Saturday. The steal was Segura's fifth since he joined the Brewers' roster in early-August.
