Jun 29 2025Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had started four of the last five games, all against right-handers, but he'll head to the bench against Jack Leiter. Though the Mariners have mostly used Solano on the short side of a platoon at first base this season, he's been getting more opportunities lately while slashing a robust .419/.457/.651 over his last 13 contests. Once his bat inevitably cools down, Solano's playing time will taper off, but he could poach starts from a slumping Jorge Polanco (.503 OPS since the beginning of May).
Jun 23 2025Solano is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had started at first base in each of the last four games -- two against right-handed pitchers, two against left-handers -- and went 10-for-17 with two home runs, one double, one walk and eight RBI, but the Mariners aren't yet ready to commit to him as an everyday player. Even after that productive four-game stretch, Solano is still slashing just .257/.295/.371 in 112 plate appearances on the season. Solano should continue to play regularly against left-handed pitching, but his playing time against righties could be more sporadic while the Mariners have the left-handed-hitting Luke Raley available to play first base.
Jun 22 2025Solano went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Sunday's win against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano ripped a solo shot in the fourth inning and a two-run homer in the seventh. He capped off his day with a two-run single during Seattle's five-run eighth inning. Solano posted three consecutive three-hit games during the weekend series against the Cubs, boosting his season OPS from .490 to .666 in the process. Solano did not homer in any of his first 38 games this season but has gone deep three times in the last six contests.
Jun 12 2025Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 37-year-old infielder finally got into the homer column, snapping a 38-game stretch without a long ball to start the season. With southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez toeing the slab for Arizona, Solano drew the start at first base in favor of the lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez and has served the Mariners well in his short-side platoon the past few weeks. Over his last 29 plate appearances (12 games), Solano is slashing .346/.414/.500 with two extra-base hits, four RBI and three runs scored.
May 24 2025Solano went 2-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano made his fifth start at first base among 12 appearances in the month of May, but he remains without an RBI since April 17. Over his last 15 outings (30 at-bats), the veteran infielder is batting an empty .267 with just two extra-base hits. The absence of Luke Raley (oblique) hasn't translated to a boost in playing time for Solano, who should continue to function on the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez.
Apr 2 2025Solano will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will pick up his third start of the season, all of which have come at first base and when the Mariners have gone up against left-handed pitching. The 37-year-old looks like he'll be limited to a short-side platoon role while Rowdy Tellez and Luke Raley are healthy and available to serve as the primary options at first base and designated hitter, respectively.
Mar 13 2025Solano could see regular at-bats at designated hitter this season, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mitch Haniger and Mitch Garver appear to be the most likely candidates to occupy Seattle's DH spot on a daily basis this season, but Jude believes Solano could also get his fair share of action there in addition to third base. Of the three, it's worth noting Garver has stood out the most this spring with three home runs and six RBI in 18 at-bats. The Mariners have plenty of reps to fill in the infield following the offseason exits of both Josh Rojas and Justin Turner on top of moving Ty France at least year's trade deadline, so the versatile Solano could see playing time on the diamond elsewhere even if he doesn't carve out a consistent role at DH.
Feb 22 2025Solano is expected to be present at Seattle's camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano missed the early part of camp due to visa issues, but the matter appears to have been resolved. Given that there is over a month left until the Mariners' first regular-season game, the infielder's initial absence shouldn't affect his readiness for the start of the campaign. Solano joined Seattle on a one-year contract in January and will likely be used at the corner infield spots during the upcoming season, though he's not slated for an everyday role.
Feb 18 2025Solano has yet to report to spring camp due to visa issues, though the team hopes he will arrive by Friday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Mariners' Cactus League schedule begins Friday, so Solano should still be available for Seattle's entire slate of exhibition games as long as he arrives by then. The 37-year-old slashed .286/.343/.417 with eight homers and 35 RBI across 309 regular-season plate appearances with the Padres last year, and he's expected to begin 2025 in the short side of a platoon at first base with Luke Raley.
Jan 21 2025The Mariners plan to deploy Solano mostly at first base, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano could also be used some at third base, but he appears likely to see most of his action at first base as the short side of a platoon with Luke Raley. Seattle does not intend to use Solano at second base, per Kramer. The 37-year-old Solano slashed .286/.343/.417 with a career-high eight home runs over 96 regular-season contests for the Padres in 2024.
Jan 13 2025The Mariners signed Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million contract Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He can earn an additional $1 million in incentives. Solano turned 37 last month but had a productive 2024 campaign with the Padres, slashing .286/.343/.417 with a career-high eight home runs over 96 contests. J.P. Crawford at shortstop looks to be the only infielder currently guaranteed a starting spot with the Mariners, so Solano should play plenty, particularly against left-handed pitching. He started games at third and first base in 2024 in addition to designated hitter and also has plenty of past experience at second base.
Oct 9 2024Solano isn't in the Padres' lineup Wednesday for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wednesday marks the third straight game San Diego has decided to keep Solano on the bench after a 1-for-13 start to the postseason. Luis Arraez will get the starting nod at first base instead while David Peralta serves as the DH.
Oct 8 2024Solano is absent from the lineup Tuesday in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres used Luis Arraez at first base and David Peralta in the designated-hitter slot in Game 2 and will go with that setup again after Peralta went deep in the contest. Solano did get two plate appearances off the bench in Game 2 and is a good bet to enter mid-game again when/if the Dodgers turn to a lefty reliever.
Oct 6 2024Solano is not in the lineup Sunday for Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He had started the last three games dating back to the regular season, but Solano heads to the bench in this one against righty Yu Darvish. David Peralta enters the lineup in his place, starting at designated hitter and batting eighth.
Sep 29 2024Solano is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Luis Arraez will start at first base Sunday while Fernando Tatis serves as the designated hitter. Unless he comes in to pinch hit, Solano will end the regular season slashing .287/.344/.418 with eight home runs and 35 RBI across 308 plate appearances.
Sep 28 2024Solano went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano picked up his first multi-hit effort since Sept. 14, which was also a four-hit game. The 36-year-old had three singles before going yard in the ninth inning to provide some insurance runs. He's been a decent bat for the Padres this year with a .287/.344/.418 slash line, eight homers, 35 RBI, 31 runs scored and two stolen bases over 95 contests.
Sep 26 2024Solano is not in Thursday's starting lineup against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been the regular starter at first base for the past two weeks, but he'll bow out of the lineup after hitting only .222 across his last 10 starts. Luis Arraez will shift to first base, while David Peralta will enter the lineup and hit eighth.
Sep 18 2024Solano went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano salvaged his stat line with an eighth-inning solo homer off Kaleb Ort, the infielder's seventh long ball of the campaign. In September, Solano is 8-for-37 (.216) with five runs and two RBI.
Sep 15 2024Solano went 4-for-5 with three doubles and a run in Saturday's 8-0 win against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano batted out of the No. 8 hole and gave the Padres plenty of run-scoring opportunities with his trio of two-baggers, though he was knocked in just once. The veteran infielder has started at first base in three of San Diego's past four contests and appears set to see plenty of playing time at that position with Jake Cronenworth playing second base and Xander Bogaerts shifting to shortstop while Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) continues to miss time. Solano has earned the uptick in opportunities by slashing .312/.361/.468 over 32 games since the All-Star break.
Aug 21 2024Solano went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano entered as a pinch hitter for Jurickson Profar in the fifth inning after the Twins built a 10-0 lead and homered to put the Padres on the board. He's been effective in a reserve role for San Diego this season, slashing .309/.360/.440 with six home runs, 28 RBI, 25 runs and a stolen base over 225 plate appearances.
Aug 11 2024Solano went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 7-6 loss to Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pinch hitting for Jake Cronenworth with one out in the eighth inning, Solano came up clutch and launched a two-run homer off Andrew Nardi to bring the Padres within one run. The long ball was Solano's fifth of the year -- a milestone he had reached just twice in his first 10 MLB seasons. In 212 plate appearances, Solano is slashing .313/.363/.436.
Aug 7 2024Solano went 4-for-5 with four RBI in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The four hits and four RBI are both new season highs for Solano, who's batting .400 (22-for-55) over his last 16 games. The veteran infielder is unlikely to overtake Jake Cronenworth, Luis Arraez, Xander Bogaerts or Manny Machado for a starting role, though he's proven to be a useful piece off the bench and against left-handed pitching. Overall, Solano's slashing .314/.366/.427 with four homers, 25 RBI, 21 runs scored and a stolen base through 202 plate appearances this season.
Aug 2 2024Solano went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has played in just five games since the All-Star break, as there isn't room for him in the lineup when all of Jake Cronenworth, Luis Arraez and Xander Bogaerts are playing. Despite the limited action, Solano has gone 5-for-12 over those five games. The utility man has a .300/.355/.417 slash line with four homers, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, nine doubles and one stolen base over 197 plate appearances this season. His playing time would likely pick up if there was an injury to one of the Padres' other infielders.
Jul 14 2024Solano will serve as the Padres' designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Sunday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will close out the first half of the season having started in 18 of the Padres' last 19 games, but he'll likely move into more of a part-time role moving forward despite slashing .313/.343/.391 over his last 17 starts. With the Friars bringing back Xander Bogaerts from the injured list Friday, Luis Arraez is likely to see fewer starts in the infield and should instead operate as the team's primary designated hitter, which leaves no room in the lineup for Solano.
Jul 5 2024Solano went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI against the Rangers in Thursday's 3-1 victory. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano opened the scoring in the contest with an RBI double in the fourth inning. He finished with his second three-hit performance of the campaign, and he's collected multiple knocks in five of his past nine games. Solano is slashing a robust .382/.417/.471 with five RBI and six runs over that stretch.
Jun 26 2024Solano will start at first base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will crack the starting nine for the fifth game in a row. The Padres are facing a left-hander (DJ Herz) for a third straight game, but San Diego could have room for both Solano and the lefty-hitting David Peralta in the regular lineup against right-handed pitching after Fernando Tatis' (quadricep) move to the injured list Monday opened up a spot. Since getting a call-up from Triple-A El Paso in early May, Solano is slashing .284/.354/.405 with three home runs and 15 RBI over 130 plate appearances.
Jun 16 2024Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had started each of the last eight games -- with seven coming at third base -- and went 5-for-29 with two home runs, three walks, six RBI and four runs. He should continue to have a regular spot in the lineup versus left-handed pitching, but Solano's opportunities to play against righties will likely become more limited now that Manny Machado is playing third base again after he had been relegated to designated hitter duties recently following his return from a right hip flexor strain.
Jun 13 2024Solano went 2-for-4 with two home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All the Padres' offense came from long balls, with Solano supplying a solo shot off Hogan Harris in the second inning and a two-run homer off Lucas Erceg in the eighth. Solano's only other home run this season came May 27, but during that 16-game stretch he's slashing .315/.367/.519 with seven runs and nine RBI while filling in as the starting third baseman for a banged-up Manny Machado.
Jun 12 2024Solano will start at third base and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Manny Machado returned to the lineup Monday after missing four straight games with a hip flexor strain, Solano has been able to maintain a spot in the lineup while Machado remains limited to designated hitter duties. Solano will get his sixth consecutive start Wednesday, but once Machado is cleared to resume playing third base, Solano will likely move into the short side of a platoon at designated hitter with David Peralta.
May 29 2024Solano went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano recorded two base hits and then capped off his night with a run-scoring double in the eighth to put the Friars up, 4-0. He's now driven in runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season and has reached base seven times in his last nine plate appearances. The 36-year-old remains a utility depth option for this team and is slashing .375/.474/.531 with three RBI, two runs and a 5:4 K:BB in 38 plate appearances.
May 27 2024Solano went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 2-1 win over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano came into the contest having gone 2-for-13 over his previous seven contests, but he broke the slump with a second-inning solo homer for the game's first run. The long ball was his first as a member of the Padres after joining the organization on a minor-league deal in mid-April. Solano has never been much of a power hitter, but he's consistently demonstrated good contact skills and is slashing .321/.441/.464 in limited opportunities this season.
May 5 2024The Padres selected Solano's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 36-year-old joined San Diego on a minor-league deal in mid-April and will join the big club after he posted an .847 OPS in 12 games with El Paso. Solano isn't likely to see significant playing time, especially following the Padres' acquisition of Luis Arraez.
Sep 26 2023Solano went 4-for-4 with one double and three runs scored in Tuesday's victory over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano broke out of his slump Tuesday, scoring thrice and reaching safely in all five plate appearances after entering the contest with one hit across his last eight games (24 at-bats). Through 129 appearances, Solano is slashing .286/.371/.401 with 41 runs scored, 38 RBI and a 22.3 percent strikeout rate.
Sep 6 2023Solano is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano manned first base for the first two games of the series and went 3-for-11 with a double, a triple, three RBI and a run scored, but he'll get a breather for the day game after a night game. Edouard Julien will cover first base for the Twins in the series finale.
Sep 3 2023Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite delivering a four-hit performance in Saturday's 9-7 win and maintaining a .395/.430/.481 batting line since Aug. 1, Solano will hit the bench Sunday for the second straight matchup with a right-handed pitcher (Jon Gray). Minnesota will roll out the same lineup they used against right-hander Max Scherzer in Friday's series opener, with Joey Gallo spelling Solano at first base once again.
Sep 2 2023Solano went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a 9-7 extra-inning win over Texas on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano put the first run on the board for Minnesota with his third-inning solo shot to left field. He came up big again in the fourth, knocking a two-run, two-out single to give the Twins their first lead. Solano finished with a season-high four knocks for his fifth multi-hit game over his past seven contests. He's batting a scorching .481 with seven RBI and five runs over that stretch.
Sep 1 2023Solano is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will get a breather after he went 5-for-10 with an RBI and two runs scored while starting all three games of the team's series with Cleveland. Joey Gallo will take over at first base and bat ninth in the opener with Texas.
Aug 30 2023Solano will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After taking a seat for Tuesday's 4-2 loss, Solano will draw back into the lineup for the series finale for what will be his 14th start in 15 games. The 35-year-old has been a major boon for fantasy managers in the batting-average category in August (.361 over 72 at-bats), but his production is lacking in just about every other area (no home runs or stolen bases, nine runs and seven RBI). He's firmly supplanted Joey Gallo as the Twins' top option at first base at the moment, though Solano will be at risk of falling into a short-side platoon role once Alex Kirilloff (shoulder) returrns from the injured list.
Aug 20 2023Solano will start at first base and bat second in Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will stick in the starting nine for the sixth game in a row after going 7-for-22 with a double and an RBI over the previous five contests. The Twins are facing a left-handed opening pitcher (Ryan Borucki) on Sunday, so the righty-hitting Solano could end up giving way to the lefty-hitting Joey Gallo midway through the contest, when right-hander Osvaldo Bido is expected to take over for Pittsburgh.
Aug 13 2023Solano (knee) is serving as Minnesota's designated hitter and batting leadoff Sunday against Philadelphia ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was removed from Tuesday's game against the Tigers with a sprained right knee and will now return after a four-game absence. The 35-year-old was on a nice hot streak at the plate before getting injured, going 8-for-16 with two RBI and four runs scored since Aug. 1.
Aug 9 2023Solano was diagnosed with a mild MCL sprain in his right knee after undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Detroit, but with the MRI on his knee coming back clean, the Twins are optimistic that he'll avoid a long-term absence. The Twins haven't ruled out Solano requiring a trip to the injured list, however, but manager Rocco Baldelli said that the veteran utility man is considered day-to-day for the time being while he waits for the swelling in his ankle to subside, according to Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Aug 8 2023Solano was removed from Tuesday's game against Detroit with a right knee sprain, Audra Martin of Bally Sports North reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano appeared to jam his right ankle after making an awkward slide back into first base, but the issue is now confirmed to be in his knee. There's no word yet on how severe Solano's injury is, but more information will likely come in the near future. For now, he should be considered day-to-day.
Jul 26 2023Solano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano is on the bench for the fourth time in five games and appears to have lost hold of a regular role at third base. He'll still likely serve as a starting infielder against left-handed pitching, but Kyle Farmer and Willi Castro may be the Twins' preferred options at third base versus right-handed pitching while all of Jorge Polanco (hamstring), Royce Lewis (oblique) and Jose Miranda (shoulder) are on the injured list.
Jul 24 2023Solano is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will take a seat after he went 0-for-8 with six strikeouts while starting two games during the team's series with the White Sox. Willi Castro will slot in at third base while Trevor Larnach starts in left field and bats seventh in the series opener with Seattle.
Jul 9 2023Solano went 3-for-4 with three doubles and one RBI in Saturday's 6-2 loss against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano doubled in each of his first three trips to the plate, with the last one scoring Byron Buxton in the sixth to bring Minnesota within four runs of the Orioles. The 35-year-old infielder has now hit safely in five straight games while registering two three-hit performances over that stretch. He's batting a robust .409 in July with seven extra-base hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
Jul 5 2023Solano went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Byron Buxton in the fifth inning off Zack Greinke, giving Solano his fourth homer of the year -- all of which have come since June 11. The 35-year-old isn't quite an everyday player for the Twins, but he's found his way into the lineup more often than not, and since the beginning of June he's slashing .280/.404/.500 with 11 RBI and 12 runs in 29 games.
Jun 26 2023Solano went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano kicked off the scoring after he got a hold of a hanging sweeper from Michael Lorenzen and sent it over the left field wall. Solano now has all three of his home runs this year over his last 13 games, a span during which he also boasts an impressive 12:7 BB:K. The 35-year-old has been one of the Twins' best hitters this season, slashing .277/.381/.397 with 16 extra-base hits, 19 RBI, 18 runs scored and a 26:45 BB:K over 215 plate appearances. He continues to hit toward the top of the order versus lefties but has not been able to maintain a consistent spot against righties.
Jun 21 2023Solano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano's brief run as a regular in the Minnesota lineup appears to have come to an end; he's now hit the bench for three straight matchups versus right-handed starting pitchers. Though he should retain a prominent spot in the lineup when the Twins face left-handed pitchers, Solano looks like he'll be on the odd man out versus righties now that Alex Kirilloff is getting more time at first base after he spent most of last week playing right field.
Jun 16 2023Solano went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in Thursday's 8-4 loss against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano gave the Twins a 4-1 lead in the second inning with a two-out, three-run homer off Matthew Boyd. Solano has two home runs on the year, both coming in his last four games. The veteran infielder has gone 8-for-19 (.421) with a 1.402 OPS over his last six games. Solano's now slashing a solid .286/.378/.404 with 17 RBI and 17 runs scored through 185 plate appearances this season. He should continue to see regular at-bats in Minnesota thanks to his ability to play multiple infield positions.
Jun 14 2023Solano will start at third base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will pick up his 10th start in 11 games Wednesday while he continues to wield a hot bat in June. Through his first 11 games of the month, Solano is slashing .324/.419/.514 with a home run, four doubles, six runs and five RBI. The recent return of Joey Gallo from the injured list has made the Minnesota lineup slightly more crowded, but Solano's ability to handle three infield spots as well as designated hitter will continue to give him multiple pathways to playing time. Expect manager Rocco Baldelli to find a way to get Solano's bat in the lineup until the veteran starts to cool down.
Jun 7 2023Solano will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will stick in the lineup for the fifth consecutive game, with the 35-year-old picking up three starts at first base and two at designated hitter during that stretch. While both Joey Gallo (hamstring) and Byron Buxton (rib) are on the 10-day injured list, Solano and Willi Castro could both have paths to steady playing time versus both left- and right-handed pitching.
Jun 1 2023Solano went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and four RBI in an 8-2 win against Houston on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano kicked off the scoring with a two-run single in the third inning and followed with a two-run double in the sixth. Incredibly, the four RBI nearly matched Solano's season total (five) through 44 games coming into the contest. Needless to say, the veteran hasn't been much of a run producer this season, though he's slashing a respectable .275/.356/.350 over 135 plate appearances.
May 23 2023Solano went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and played seven innings at second base in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Heading into Monday's game, Solano had been scheduled to start at first base, only for the Twins to scratch him from the starting nine prior to first pitch without an explanation. The Twins' decision to scratch Solano may have had something to do with the Giants deploying a right-hander (John Brebbia) as their opening pitcher, as the righty-hitting Solano went on to pinch hit for the lefty-hitting Edouard Julien when lefty primary pitcher Sean Manaea came on in relief of Brebbia. Solano should continue to see most of his opportunities moving forward as a short-side platoon player.
May 22 2023Solano was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, Randy Johnson of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear why Solano was dropped from the starting nine, but he will not open on the field as scheduled and Joey Gallo will do so instead.
May 7 2023Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano started each of the past three games at first base, going 0-for-8 with three strikeouts to drop his season-long average to .253. The Twins recalled the lefty-hitting Alex Kirilloff from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, and he'll enter the lineup at first base Sunday against Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill. Kirilloff could end up seeing the bulk of the playing time versus righties moving forward, though Solano will likely remain a mainstay in the lineup versus southpaws.
Feb 21 2023Solano agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday with Minnesota, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano spent the 2022 campaign with the Reds after having spent the previous three seasons with the Giants, and the 35-year-old slashed .284/.339/.385 with four homers and 24 RBI over 304 plate appearances. The right-handed hitting infielder has shown the ability to hit for average with a .301 clip over the last four seasons, but he's homered just 18 times over 316 games in that timeframe, and stolen just two bases. Solano should be a utility option for the Twins that sees time all over the infield particularly against left-handed pitching, but profiles as a one-category player for the 2023 season.
Sep 30 2022Solano (eye) is starting Friday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was out of the lineup for the last six games due to an eye infection, but he appeared as a pinch hitter Wednesday against the Pirates and was hit by a pitch during his lone plate appearance. He'll start at first base and bat fifth during Friday's series opener against the Cubs.
Sep 28 2022Solano (eye) is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has not played since Sept. 23 due to an eye infection. Kyle Farmer is starting at designated hitter while Jose Barrero enters the lineup at shortstop.
Sep 27 2022Solano (eye) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has not played since Sept. 23. Jake Fraley will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup.
Sep 26 2022Solano (eye) isn't in Monday's lineup versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old will miss his fourth consecutive game with an eye infection. Kyle Farmer is the designated hitter in place of Solano, who should be considered day-to-day until further updates are available.
Sep 25 2022Solano (eye) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will be held out of the lineup Sunday for a third straight game due to an eye infection. Alejo Lopez will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth in the series finale versus Milwaukee.
Sep 24 2022Solano (eye) isn't starting Saturday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was removed from Friday's lineup due to an eye infection, and he'll take a seat once again Saturday. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but TJ Friedl will serve as the designated hitter and lead off.
Sep 23 2022Solano was scratched from Friday's lineup against Milwaukee due to an eye infection, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was removed from Friday's starting nine a few hours before the start of the game, and his availability off the bench is unclear. He should be considered day-to-day for now, but Spencer Steer will start at first base and bat second Friday.
Sep 17 2022Solano isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano started the last four games and went 1-for-15 with a double, two walks and three strikeouts. TJ Friedl will take over as the designated hitter and lead off during Saturday's matinee.
Sep 12 2022Solano is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will get a breather after he started all three of the Reds' games in Milwaukee this past weekend, going 3-for-12 with an RBI and a run. Jake Fraley will serve as the Reds' designated hitter in place of Solano on Monday.
Sep 8 2022Solano is not in Thursday's lineup against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano is hitting .171 with zero home runs and zero steals over his last 10 games. Nick Senzel (ankle) will be eased back in as the designated hitter Thursday.
Sep 4 2022Solano is out of the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Rockies, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will get a breather for the second game of the twin bill after he went 0-for-4 in the Reds' 8-4 loss in Game 1, dropping his season average to .309. Jonathan India, who played second base in Game 1, will replace Solano at DH in Game 2.
Aug 25 2022Solano went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has now turned in multi-hit performances in four of his last five starts and is slashing .368/.421/.441 through 18 games in August. The 34-year-old doesn't bring much power or speed to the table, but his excellent bat-to-ball skills should make him a strong source of batting average now that he's locked into an everyday role with Cincinnati. He'll start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia.
Aug 21 2022Solano went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-1 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano tallied an RBI single off lefty reliever Eric Stout in the ninth to increase Cincinnati's lead to six. The second baseman has been red hot with the bat recently with a .405 average in 37 at-bats during his last 10 games. In addition, the 34-year-old has enjoyed hitting at home this season with a .354 average and .913 OPS in 82 at-bats compared to a .279 average and .710 OPS in 68 at-bats on the road.
Aug 20 2022Solano was reinstated from the restricted list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano went from the paternity list to the restricted list this week, but evidently he's cleared all protocols and is ready to return to action. While he's not a part of the long-term plans in Cincinnati, Solano is slashing .310/.374/.434 in limited action this year and figures to play regularly between third base and DH the rest of the way.
Aug 19 2022Solano was transferred from the paternity list to the restricted list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was away from the team since Tuesday to be with his family, but he now appears to have tested positive for COVID-19 after he was placed on the restricted list. Mike Moustakas (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday and will replace him on the active roster.
Aug 16 2022The Reds placed Solano on the paternity list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Reds having a day off Thursday, it's safe to assume Solano will be out until this weekend's series in Pittsburgh. The 34-year-old has slashed an impressive .310/.374/.434 with 16 RBI in 163 plate appearances this season.
Aug 9 2022Solano will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Tuesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty-hitting Solano was already a fixture in the lineup against left-handed pitching when the Reds are at full strength, but he should be primed to get regular starts against right-handed pitchers like the Mets' Carlos Carrasco after Cincinnati placed his platoon mate at DH, Mike Moustakas (calf), on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Solano owns a .289/.341/.421 slash line in 85 plate appearances versus righties on the season.
Aug 8 2022Solano was added to the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was set to open Monday's game on the bench, but fellow infielder Kyle Farmer was scratched with a sore neck, and Solano will be the player who takes his place in the lineup. Solano will serve as the designated hitter and hit fifth against Mets starter Chris Bassitt.
Aug 6 2022Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has slumped a bit lately, going 5-for-27 (.185) in his last eight contests. His homer Saturday was his first since July 22, but the Reds' lack of better options has kept the versatile infielder in the lineup. For the season, he's slashing .299/.357/.444 with three homers, 14 RBI, 12 runs scored and eight doubles in 35 contests. Jose Barrero's promotion has pushed Kyle Farmer to third base fill time, but it appears Solano will maintain his fair share of playing time as the designated hitter.
Aug 2 2022Solano will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Tuesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will draw his third consecutive start Tuesday, with the most recent two coming against left-handed pitching. As the Cincinnati roster is currently constructed, Solano looks to be a short-side platoon player, but a path to a full-time role could open up if the Reds move Brandon Drury prior to Tuesday's 6 p.m. ET trade deadline.
Jul 28 2022Solano will start at third base and bat fifth Thursday against the Marlins and left-handed starting pitcher Daniel Castano. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty-hitting Solano has benefited from the Reds facing a lefty-heavy schedule of late, but the 34-year-old has made a case for earning more work versus right-handed pitching, too. Dating back to July 7, Solano is slashing .420/.444/.600 with two home runs, nine RBI and six runs in 15 games.
Jul 22 2022Solano went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI on Friday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano did the majority of his damage on a two-run home run in the second inning -- his second long ball of the campaign. With Mike Moustakas back in action, Solano may find it difficult to find regular playing time moving forward. However, he's hit pretty well when given the opportunity this season by maintaining a .285/.353/.434 line across 85 plate appearances.
Jul 17 2022Solano will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 7 batter in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll close the Reds' first-half schedule having made four consecutive starts, but Solano could be in danger of falling into a short-side platoon role coming out of the All-Star break. Provided he hasn't experienced any major setbacks in his recovery from the virus, Mike Moustakas (illness) could be ready to return from the COVID-19-related injured list and take back primary duties at DH for next weekend's home series with the Cardinals.
Jul 12 2022Solano is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For one of the few times all season, the Reds have all their key regulars available with Joey Votto (back) checking back in at first base Tuesday following a week-long absence. As a result, Solano will end up losing out on a spot in the lineup after he went 9-for-25 with a home run and two walks while starting each of the past seven contests. The righty-hitting Solano should still have a regular spot in the starting nine versus left-handed pitching.
Jul 8 2022Solano went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the first half of Thursday's doubleheader against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano tied the game 1-1 with a solo blast in the fifth inning off Pirates starter Roansy Contreras and added singles in the second and seventh. It was the veteran's fourth multi-hit game of the season and his second three-hit outing. Across 53 plate appearances, he's slashing .250/.321/.417.
Jul 6 2022Solano will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw David Peterson on the bump for the Mets, the righty-hitting Solano will slot into a prominent spot in the batting order while the Reds send several key lefty-hitting regulars to the bench. Solano has now started in 10 times in 15 games since coming off the 60-day injured list June 21, but moving forward, his starting opportunities could be limited largely to when the Reds oppose lefty pitchers now that the team has all of its everyday players back from the IL with the exception of No. 1 catcher Tyler Stephenson (thumb).
Jun 28 2022Solano will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Tuesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has come out hot since being activated from the 60-day injured list a week ago. While starting in four of the Reds' first five games upon rejoining the active roster, Solano has gone 6-for-16 with three doubles, a walk, three runs and two RBI. He received each of his prior four starts at either second base or third base, but DH may represent Solano's clearest path to an everyday role now that Jonathan India (hand) is healthy after a one-game absence. The lefty-hitting Mike Moustakas is on the bench against a right-handed starter (Keegan Thompson) for the second straight day, perhaps hinting that the righty-hitting Solano may not be relegated to a short-side platoon role while he's producing at the plate.
Jun 21 2022The Reds reinstated Solano (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cincinnati swapped Solano off the 60-day IL in exchange for lefty starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (back), who was transferred from the 10-day IL since he was already on track to miss more than two months with his injury. The righty-hitting Solano is expected to serve as a short-side platoon option at second base, third base or shortstop for Jonathan India, Kyle Farmer or Brandon Drury, depending on which player the Reds want to extend a breather on a given day.
Jun 17 2022Manager David Bell said Friday that Solano (hamstring) could return from the 60-day injured list as early as Tuesday against the Dodgers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville in early June and has slashed .333/.375/.476 with three doubles, two RBI and a run over seven games. The 34-year-old will presumably continue to appear in minor-league games this weekend prior to rejoining the Reds early next week.
Jun 3 2022Solano (hamstring) is expected to start his rehab assignment Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has yet to make his Reds debut after signing with the team in the offseason, but he appears to be closing in on a return. The 34-year-old batted .280 with seven homers, 31 RBI, 35 runs and two stolen bases over 307 at-bats in 101 games with the Giants last season.
May 23 2022The Reds transferred Solano (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction shouldn't alter Solano's timeline for making his Reds debut, as he was already in line to miss the first two months of the season after having yet to resume running at 100 percent since receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in late April to address lingering pain in his left hamstring. Solano hasn't been shut down from activities entirely, but since he still needs to complete his running program, incorporate full on-field baseball activities into his workout regimen and take at-bats in simulated games before heading out on a rehab assignment, he's likely multiple weeks away from coming off the IL.
May 22 2022Reds manager David Bell said Sunday that Solano (hamstring) is running at approximately 75 percent, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since suffering what was initially expected to be a short-term left hamstring injury late in spring training, Solano has made slow progress in his recovery. Nearly two months after suffering the injury, Solano still isn't back to running at 100 percent, though he could reach that benchmark within the next week. Even if that's the case, Solano will still need to prove he can perform all baseball activities before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, which will likely consist of several games. He doesn't appear likely to make his Reds debut before the first week of June, which could result in him being transferred to the 60-day injured list if Cincinnati needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
May 6 2022Solano (hamstring) is still experiencing soreness following his PRP injection, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was shut down from running when he received his PRP injection April 28, but he's still managing soreness over a week later. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to resume baseball activities, but once he does, he'll likely need time to ramp back up following his shutdown.
Apr 19 2022Solano (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment as early as Tuesday or Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "He's getting close," manager David Bell said. "We're meeting with him after he does his work to determine the next step. He may stop off in Arizona and get a lot of at-bats for a couple of days." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Reds are close to reaching a decision whether to put Jonathan India on the IL - if they go that route, Solano could temporarily be stepping into a starting role at second base when he returns. Otherwise, the Reds will mostly turn to Brandon Drury.
Apr 13 2022Manager David Bell said Solano (hamstring) will travel with the Reds for their upcoming four-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers that begins Thursday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano's presence on the road trip doesn't mean he'll be activated from the 10-day injured list this weekend, though it suggests that his return to the 28-man active roster isn't too far off. Once he's deemed ready to play, Solano should displace Brandon Drury as the Reds' top utility infielder and make regular starts against left-handed pitching.
Apr 9 2022Solano (hamstring) took a few swings Friday during Mike Minor's simulated game, not content to just track pitches, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I feel better every single day," Solano said. "I try to push myself every single day to get better and better. I don't know how much more time I need, but I think we're moving at a good pace." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano elaborated that his leg isn't yet 100 percent when swinging, and that he feels it when "I touch the ground and turn." He's also not yet running, so a rehab assignment isn't yet in the offing.
Apr 7 2022Solano (hamstring) will hit in a simulated game Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Solano is on the injured list to begin the season, manager David Bell is optimistic that the utility man won't have a lengthy absence. His participation in Friday's sim game echoes that optimism, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week if his hitting session goes well.
Mar 30 2022Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Solano (hamstring) will begin the regular season on the injured list, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano sustained a left hamstring injury Tuesday against the Rangers and feels slightly better Wednesday, but he'll still be held out to begin the regular season. An exact timetable for his return isn't yet clear, though manager David Bell suggested that Solano's stint on the IL "may not be very long," per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Solano was expected to be a fixture in the lineup against left-handed pitching, but his absence could clear the way for the righty-hitting Brandon Drury to make the Opening Day roster as a utility man.
Mar 29 2022Solano exited Tuesday's game against Texas with a left hamstring injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano walked off the field with a team trainer after hurting himself while running the bases. The exact nature and severity of the injury are not yet clear. He's expected to find his way into the lineup at least against lefties this season, but the rest of the Reds' starting infielders could each receive a few more at-bats if he winds up missing time.
Mar 27 2022Solano (side) is starting at third base and batting sixth in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Rockies, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had been sidelined since being hit by a pitch Tuesday against the Dodgers, but he'll rejoin the lineup after taking a few days to recover. The 34-year-old is poised to work in a utility role after inking a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Reds in mid-March.
Mar 16 2022Solano agreed Wednesday with the Reds on a one-year, $4.5 million contract, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has seen the overwhelming majority of his innings at second base throughout his career, but unless the Reds elect to move reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jonathan India off the keystone, the 34-year-old will have to settle for most of his reps on the left side of the infield in 2022. Even with Cincinnati dealing Eugenio Suarez to Seattle earlier this week, the shortstop and third base positions still appear somewhat crowded, as all of Kyle Farmer, Jose Barrero and Mike Moustakas are competing for work at either position. Given the success he's had against lefty pitching over the past three seasons in San Francisco, Solano would probably make the most sense as a short-side platoon mate at the hot corner with the lefty-hitting Moustakas. From 2019 through 2021, Solano turned in wRC+ marks of 125, 137 and 121 versus southpaws.
Sep 18 2021Solano went 1-for-1 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old missed about three weeks due to COVID-19, but he was able to make a near-instant impact in his return to the big-league roster. Solano's pinch-hit, ninth-inning solo shot forced extra innings, where San Francisco ultimately won on a sacrifice fly by ace starter Kevin Gausman. Through 321 plate appearances, Solano has seven home runs, 31 RBI, 32 runs scored, a pair of stolen bases and a .278/.338/.406 slash line. He's expected to see a short-side platoon role with Tommy La Stella at second base going forward, although Solano could also fill in at shortstop or third base.
Sep 17 2021Solano (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano went 2-for-9 with an RBI during his three games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, and he's now set to rejoin the big club ahead of the series opener against Atlanta. While Solano won't have an everyday role going forward, he should see time across the infield during the season's final weeks.
Sep 16 2021Solano (illness) could rejoin the Giants as early as Friday against Atlanta, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano recently began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento and went 2-for-9 with a run and an RBI across three appearances. Manager Gabe Kapler said that the 33-year-old could remain in Sacramento on Thursday to get some additional at-bats, but he appears to be on track to return from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.
Sep 10 2021Solano (illness) is expected to begin a rehab assignment over the weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been out since testing positive for COVID-19 in late August. Previous reports indicated he could return to the active roster by the end of the weekend, but it looks as though the Giants would rather see him get into a few minor-league games first. Given that he's only been out for just over two weeks, he shouldn't need a lengthy rehab assignment, meaning he should be back on the active roster sometime early next week.
Sep 6 2021Solano (Illness) could be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of the Giants' three-game road series versus the Cubs that begins Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano wasn't able to join the Giants in Colorado for their three-game series in Colorado that began Monday, but he was cleared to return to the team facility in San Francisco after completing a quarantine period. Assuming he fares well during his workouts the next few days, Solano could rejoin the Giants this weekend. Solano will likely serve as a short-side platoon mate at second base for Tommy La Stella once he's reinstated.
Aug 26 2021Solano tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was dealing with cold symptoms, which was the original reason he was placed on the injured list. Now with a confirmed positive test, Solano is in line for seven-to-10 day absence. The team has tremendous depth up the middle of the infield, with Tommy La Stella's playing time likely to be more secure in Solano's absence.
Aug 22 2021Solano went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano entered the eighth inning to pinch-hit for Lamonte Wade. He hit the game-winning two-run homer off A.J. Puk to put the Giants ahead. Solano has recently been limited to starting against southpaws. As a result, he has totaled just four hits since August 5. The 33-year-old is slashing .277/.335/.396 with six long balls, 30 RBI, 31 runs and a pair of steals in 317 plate appearances.
Aug 8 2021Solano will start at second base and bat sixth Sunday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano hadn't started either of the Giants' past two games, both of which came against right-handed pitching. He'll draw back into the lineup Sunday with southpaw Brett Anderson on the mound for Milwaukee, but the righty-hitting Solano looks like he'll be used as a short-side platoon player at the keystone moving forward following the lefty-hitting Tommy La Stella's recent return from the injured list.
Aug 5 2021Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a two-RBI single in Thursday's 7-1 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old started the scoring in the fourth inning with his second homer in the last five games. He knocked in another pair of runs with his sixth-inning single. Solano's playing time could be in decline soon, but he's doing everything possible to make that a tough decision for manager Gabe Kapler. In his last seven games, Solano is 12-for-28 (.429) with two homers, three doubles, six RBI and four runs scored. Tommy La Stella, who returned from the injured list Wednesday, will likely compete with Solano for playing time at second base going forward, which could see the latter drop into a short-side platoon role.
Aug 1 2021Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-6 win over Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was the infielder's first homer since June 26. Solano is rarely a threat for power-hitting, as his long ball Saturday allowed him to match his career high of four in a season. He's added 23 RBI, 27 runs scored, a pair of stolen bases and a .271/.327/.371 slash line through 278 plate appearances.
Jul 28 2021Solano is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano is 3-for-20 with seven strikeouts over his past six games and will take a seat Wednesday. Wilmer Flores will cover the keystone while Jason Vosler starts at third base.
Jul 24 2021Solano will sit Saturday against the Pirates, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano sits after starting 11 straight games at second base, a stretch in which he hit .279/.340/.302. Wilmer Flores slides to his usual spot Saturday, with Jason Vosler starting at third base.
Jul 20 2021Solano went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 7-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was hit by a pitch in the fifth and then swiped second base -- just his second steal of the year. He later singled and scored during a four-run seventh inning for the Giants. The 33-year-old has been brilliant at the plate recently, tallying seven hits in 17 at-bats over four games since returning from the All-Star break. For the year, he's slashing .274/.326/.365 with three homers, 21 RBI, 25 runs scored and a 16:42 BB:K over 242 plate appearances.
Jul 19 2021Solano went 2-for-5 in Sunday's 2-1 loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old has started the second half on a high note with three straight two-hit performances. The downside to Solano's recent work is that all six of those hits were singles. The contact-hitting infielder is slashing .274/.325/.367 with three home runs, 21 RBI, 24 runs scored and a stolen base in 237 plate appearances. He shouldn't be expected to hit for much power nor provide much speed on the basepaths, but he's started six of the Giants' last seven games at second base.
Jul 7 2021Solano is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will receive the day off after going 1-for-12 with an RBI and a walk over the past three games. Wilmer Flores will shift to the keystone while Jason Vosler starts at third base.
Jul 4 2021Solano went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a hit-by-pitch in Saturday's 6-5 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano knocked in Brandon Crawford to cap a four-run rally in the third inning. All three of Solano's hits Saturday were singles. He's hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, going 14-for-42 (.333) with a home run, two RBI and four runs scored in that span. The infielder has a .278/.332/.386 slash line through 196 plate appearances, but he lacks much in the way of counting stats with three homers, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and a stolen base.
Jul 2 2021Solano isn't starting Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had recorded hits in four of his last five appearances and went 5-for-18 with a home run, a double, two runs, an RBI and two walks. He'll get a breather while Thairo Estrada starts at second base and bats eighth.
Jun 26 2021Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk as San Francisco defeated Oakland 6-5 on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano singled in the second, walked in the sixth and homered in the eighth off Oakland reliever Jake Diekman to tie the game 4-4. The veteran infielder now has multiple hits in three of his last five games and is slashing a respectable .272/.324/.386 in 49 games.
Jun 18 2021Solano is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Phillies, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano enters Friday on a five-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 7-for-21 with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. He'll get a breather for the beginning part of Friday's game but figures to be a top option for manager Gabe Kapler off the bench. Wilmer Flores will shift to second base as Jason Vosler mans the hot corner.
Jun 15 2021Solano went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs Monday in a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two extra-base hits were Solano's first since he homered back on May 29 in a win over the Dodgers. The 33-year-old typically doesn't hit for much power, but his strong bat-to-ball skills often translate to high batting averages. He's hit over .300 in both of the past two seasons, and his current .267 mark in 2021 could stand to improve, as his .306 BABIP is abnormally low for him.
Jun 12 2021Solano will not start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano sits after starting 12 of the last 13 games. Wilmer Flores slides to second base in his absence, with Jason Vosler starting at third. Solano will likely return to the lineup for the nightcap.
Jun 5 2021Solano isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has recorded hits in each of his last three games, and he went 4-for-11 with two RBI, a run and a strikeout during that time. Jason Vosler will start at second base and bat seventh.
Jun 2 2021Solano went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano produced the Giants' lone run with an RBI single that scored Steven Duggar in the bottom of the seventh. The infielder has struggled a bit in terms of consistency, but he's getting the job done at the plate and has hit safely in six of his last nine contests, hitting .250 with a .766 OPS while going yard twice and plating seven runs in that span.
May 30 2021Solano went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two additional runs scored and a walk in Saturday's 11-6 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano cranked a two-run home run off Julio Urias in the third inning to extend the Giants' lead. The 33-year-old provided a rare home run, considering he has never hit more than four long balls in any given season of his career. Both of his homers this season came in the last three games against the Dodgers. He is slashing .269/.302/.410 in 86 plate appearances.
May 27 2021Solano went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two strikeouts in the Giants' 4-3 loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano knotted the score at three with his sixth inning shot off reliever Victor Gonzalez but was not productive in his other at-bats. The power was a welcome sight but Solano has only 17 career home runs in eight seasons, though his .268 average stands to improve as he's hit .326 and .330 in his prior two seasons with San Francisco.
May 26 2021Solano is on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old receives the day off following an 0-for-4 performance Tuesday, which extended his recent slump to 3-for-25 in the last eight games. Mauricio Dubon fills in at second base Wednesday.
May 20 2021Solano isn't starting Thursday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano returned from the injured list Wednesday and went hitless with a strikeout in four at-bats. Mauricio Dubon will start at second base and bat sixth.
May 19 2021Solano (calf) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano missed nearly a month due to a right calf strain and had joined Triple-A Sacramento for a brief rehab assignment recently. However, he'll now rejoin the major-league club after Wilmer Flores (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. While both Flores and Tommy La Stella (hamstring) are on the IL, Solano should have a clear path to an everyday role at second base.
May 18 2021Solano (calf) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old has been sidelined since April 21 by a right calf strain, but he's ready to rejoin the active roster after a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento. Solano had a .300/.333/.380 slash line with four doubles, three RBI and five runs in 17 games prior to the injury.
May 15 2021Solano (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been out with a calf strain for over three weeks but appears to be close to returning to the active roster. He'd gotten off to a good start before suffering the injury, hitting .300 through 50 at-bats.
May 11 2021Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Tuesday he's hopeful Solano (calf) will be ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been sidelined for a little over two weeks with the strained left calf, so he shouldn't need more than a handful of rehab games to prove he's healthy and regain his timing at the plate. Once he returns from the 10-day injured list, Solano will likely push Wilmer Flores for regular duties at second base.
May 4 2021Solano is making progress in his recovery from his strained right calf, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder has been out for just shy of two weeks but advanced to running sprints Monday. It's not clear exactly when he'll be back, but the Giants could use him soon, as fellow second baseman Tommy La Stella is expected to be out until June with a strained hamstring.
Apr 22 2021Solano (calf) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano suffered a right calf strain Wednesday against the Phillies, and manager Gabe Kapler said that the infielder will miss "some time." It's not yet clear when Solano will be able to return, but Mauricio Dubon and Wilmer Flores should see increased playing time while the 33-year-old is sidelined.
Apr 21 2021Solano suffered a right calf strain Wednesday against the Phillies and will miss "some time," per manager Gabe Kapler, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It sounds like Solano is ticketed for the injured list. This should open up some playing time for Mauricio Dubon and Wilmer Flores in the short term.
Apr 15 2021Solano went 2-for-3 in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder is now hitting .353 in the young season, but he only has three RBI and is slugging just .412. Solano has started just two of San Francisco's last five games, and it appears the 33-year-old will not be the everyday starter at second base in 2021. His lack of base-stealing prowess and power potential will keep his numbers modest, but as long as Solano continues making contact at a high rate, he'll hold legitimate fantasy value in deeper formats.
Apr 6 2021Solano went 2-for-4 with two singles and a stolen base in Monday's 3-2 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano continued his hot start, as he's recorded at least two hits in all four games this season. The stolen base may end up being his only one this year, as he attempted exactly one steal in his last four seasons, with his last MLB swipe coming way back in 2014. With the 33-year-old making quality contact, it's been hard for manager Gabe Kapler to sit him. However, there's a chance he sits Tuesday in favor of Tommy La Stella with right-hander Yu Darvish on the bump.
Apr 2 2021Solano went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI in Friday's victory over Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano broke open a 3-3 tie with a seventh-inning double, marking his second double in his first two games. The veteran has started at second base in each of the Giants' first two contests, going 5-for-10 with three runs scored.
Mar 27 2021Solano could begin the season as the starter at second base with Tommy La Stella at first base if Brandon Belt isn't ready to return after recovering from COVID-19 and mono, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Belt has returned to spring training games, but it's not clear if he'll be ready for Opening Day. Evan Longoria may also not be ready to play in the field as he works his way back from plantar fasciitis (the Giants have the DH at Seattle the first series), which could move Solano to third base. Solano is expected to get regular starts in the San Francisco lineup, but he'll be used in a multi-position role. Solano is hitting .441 (15-for-34) with three home runs this spring.
Feb 18 2021Solano lost his arbitration case to the Giants on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano had filed for a $3.9 salary for 2021, but he'll have to settle for a one-year, $3.25 million deal after the arbiter's ruling. The 33-year-old should have to compete for playing time in the middle infield in 2021 after the Giants signed Tommy La Stella during the offseason.
Sep 24 2020Solano is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is in the midst of a four-game hitting streak and is hitting .353 with one home run in 68 at-bats this month. Wilmer Flores will start at second base while Austin Slater gets the nod at designated hitter.
Sep 20 2020Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano will take a seat after starting in each of the previous four contests, during which he 4-for-17 with an RBI. Wilmer Flores spells him at the keystone in the series finale.
Sep 13 2020Solano isn't starting Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano went 0-for-3 during Sunday's matinee, and he'll take a seat for the second game. Wilmer Flores will take over at second base.
Sep 9 2020Solano went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has now registered two three-hit performances in two of his last three games and seems to be heating up at the plate, hitting safely in five of seven contests this month and slashing .462/.500/.808 in that stretch. He also has six extra-base hits across that span after racking up seven during the entire month of August.
Sep 6 2020Solano went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double, and a walk in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano needed only a triple to complete the cycle but still enjoyed a perfect day at the dish Sunday. His two-run shot in the sixth inning proved to be the go-ahead knock in the Giants win. The 34-year-old owns a terrific .344/.388/.516 slash line with 27 RBI and 16 extra-base hits across 139 plate appearances this season.
Sep 5 2020Solano is not in the lineup Saturday against Arizona, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano hits the bench after starting four straight games. Wilmer Flores takes over at second base in his absence.
Sep 1 2020Solano went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, two runs and six RBI in Tuesday's 23-5 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Prior to Tuesday, no team in MLB history had ever seen three of its players drive in six runs in one game. Solano was part of the history-making trio (along with Alex Dickerson and Brandon Crawford) who changed that when he doubled to left field in the eighth inning to collect his fifth and six RBIs of the contest. The 32-year-old pushed his already-robust .327 average to .345 with the memorable performance. He also upped his season RBI total to 24.
Aug 29 2020Solano isn't in Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has gone 1-for-7 with two strikeouts over the past two games, and he'll take a seat Saturday. Wilmer Flores will start at second base.
Aug 26 2020Solano went 1-for-6 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Three Giants recorded three or more hits in this game and while Solano also accounted for one of the team's 14 knocks, he delivered the biggest one -- his two-run shot in the bottom of the 11th inning left the Dodgers on the field and carried the Giants to a huge win over their bitter rivals. It was Solano's second homer of the season, but the second baseman is still hitting an impressive .351 with a .896 OPS this year.
Aug 23 2020Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano started the first two games of the series and will take a seat after going 1-for-8 with one RBI and one walk. Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone Sunday while Pablo Sandoval serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 20 2020Solano is not starting Thursday against the Angels, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has started the past six games, going 5-for-24 with five runs scored during that stretch. Wilmer Flores is starting at the keystone in place of Solano in this one.
Aug 14 2020Solano (abdomen) is starting at second base and batting second Friday versus the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old missed the past two games with abdominal soreness, but he'll make his return to the lineup for Friday's series opener. Solano has an impressive .458/.476/.661 slash line with one homer, nine doubles and 15 RBI in 16 games.
Aug 12 2020Solano (abdomen) will remain on the bench Wednesday against the Astros, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano sat out Tuesday's game with abdominal soreness and will sit for at least one more contest. With an off day Thursday, it's possible he's able to return Friday against Oakland. Mauricio Dubon will again play second base Wednesday.
Aug 11 2020Solano's absence from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros is due to abdominal soreness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has swung a very hot bat this season, hitting .458/.476/.661, so it makes sense that his absence is more than just a routine day off. He'll be reevaluated Wednesday, but with the Giants having a scheduled off day Thursday, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sit for at least one more game. Mauricio Dubon will handle second base Tuesday.
Aug 4 2020Solano isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been on a tear at the plate this season, riding a nine-game hitting streak while logging a 1.163 OPS with a home run and 13 RBI during that time. However, he'll get a breather Tuesday with Mauricio Dubon starting at the keystone, batting eighth.
Aug 2 2020Solano went 2-for-5 with three RBI during Saturday's 7-3 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has emerged as one of the top run producers in the National League during the first week of the season, as he has already notched 13 RBI in just 29 at-bats. He is riding a seven-game hitting streak and is carrying one of the hottest bats in all of baseball at the moment while tallying 10 RBI and four extra-base hits in his last four games.
Jul 30 2020Solano went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 12-7 extra-inning loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Three of Solano's four hits were doubles, including one of the run-scoring variety in the seventh inning. He added the game-tying run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Solano has hit safely in five straight games (10-for-19) with a homer, nine RBI, four doubles and three runs scored. The 32-year-old infielder is still expected to make most of his starts versus southpaws, but his recent success could earn him more general playing time over the likes of Mauricio Dubon and Wilmer Flores.
Sep 28 2019Solano (calf) will start Saturday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano has been dealing with a calf injury and hadn't started a game in nearly three weeks. He'll lead off and play second base Saturday.
Sep 27 2019Solano (calf) isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Los Angeles, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano was called on to pinch hit Thursday, his first action since Sept. 17. He's been battling a right calf injury, and while he doesn't appear ready to return to the lineup yet, he'll likely be available off the bench again Friday evening.
Sep 21 2019Solano has been out of the lineup due to a right calf injury, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano hasn't played in any of the team's last three contests and is out of the lineup again Saturday against Atlanta. There were no specific details reported on Solano's exact injury, though it was noted that he sustained it while running the bases.
Sep 18 2019Solano came off the bench and went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and a run scored Tuesday in the Giants' 7-6 win over the Red Sox in 15 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Solano led off the top of the 15th with a ground-rule double and crossed home for the game-winning run on Alex Dickerson's sacrifice fly. With a .337/.367/.466 (120 wRC+) in 221 plate appearances this season, the 31-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for the Giants. Unfortunately for fantasy purposes, his role as a short-side platoon player hasn't presented many opportunities for him to bring value in mixed leagues with weekly lineup locks.
Aug 25 2019Solano went 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a walk in Sunday's 5-4 win over Oakland.
Aug 17 2019Solano came in as a replacement and went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's extra-innings win over Arizona.

Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.Solano went 9-for-32 with six RBI and three extra-base hits in 16 spring training games. Jan 19 2018Solano signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.Solano spent the entirety of the 2017 season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' system, slashing .282/.329/.391 with four home runs and 48 RBI. The second baseman will provide extra organizational depth up the middle for Los Angeles.
Mar 27 2017Solano was assigned to the Yankees' minor-league camp Monday.Solano appeared in nine games with the big club a season ago, going 5-of-22 (.227 average) at the dish. With the Yankees relatively healthy in the infield as the regular season approaches, Solano never had a realistic shot at winning an Opening Day roster spot, but as injuries mount over the course of the campaign, he could be called upon if more depth is needed up the middle. Look for Solano to report to Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Jan 31 2017Solano agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees on Tuesday.Solano elected free agency following the 2016 season, but is now set to return to the Yankees organization for the upcoming campaign after signing a contract that includes an invitation to spring training. The 29-year-old spent most of 2016 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he slashed .319/.349/.436. Although he did make his way up to the majors, Solano's numbers at the plate didn't translate as he went just 5-for-22 (.227) over nine games.
Oct 10 2016Solano was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.Solano spent the majority of the season in the minors, but did get a September call up and saw somewhat regular at bats down the stretch with injuries to players ahead of him on the depth chart. The 28-year-old has been up and down between the majors and minors over the past two years and has mostly been used as a utility infield option, so he figures to reprise a similar role heading into 2017.
Oct 10 2016Solano declined his assignment and elected free agency Monday.Solano had been outrighted off the major league roster to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier in the day, but he'll elect to try his luck on the open market rather than head back to the minors. The 28-year-old hit .227 in nine major league games this year and just .189 in 2015, so he may end up back in the minors wherever he lands.
Sep 21 2016Solano went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI in the Yankees' 14-4 win over the Rays.It was Solano's third game and his first home run of the year, as he joined Gary Sanchez and the rest of a Yankees lineup that put up 17 hits on the Rays. Solano spent parts of four seasons with the Marlins before heading to New York, and never hit more than three home runs despite garnering 300+ at-bats twice.
Sep 18 2016Solano's contract was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-BarreSolano had a good performance with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, where he hit .319/.349/.436 over 131 games. Solano will provide depth all around the infield for the Yankees, as he's spent time at second and third base, as well as shortstop over the course of his career in the majors.
Apr 10 2016Solano went 0-for-4 in his first game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.Solano was dealing with a lower-back injury in the spring, but now that the regular season is underway it appears as though it's behind him. He'll serve as organizational depth in the infield, likely spending the majority of the season in the minors.
Mar 8 2016Solano has been sidelined with a lower-back injury, The Westchester Journal News reports.Solano hasn't been able to partake in any baseball drills, and while there's no exact timetable as of now, he expressed optimism that he'd return to the field before the end of spring training. The infielder likely wouldn't have cracked the Opening Day big league roster anyway, but if he misses extended time he'll most likely begin the year at the Triple-A level.
Feb 5 2016Solano received an invitation to spring training Friday, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports. This comes as no surprise, as Solano has appeared in the majors in parts of the last four seasons. That being said, his hitting numbers have tapered off since his debut in the bigs, so he'll likely head back to the minors after spring training if he can't get his bat going against major league pitching.
Jan 8 2016Solano signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. After two relatively successful campaigns with the Marlins, Solano struggled offensively in 2015, and his run with the team has now come to an end. Oct 12 2015Solano was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Monday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. The move was procedural in order to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. No matter, Solano spent time between New Orleans and the Marlins in 2015, garnering just 90 at-bats in 55 games with the big club.
Sep 22 2015Solano went 3-for-4 in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies.Solano has been used sparingly during the month, but has hit safely in four out of the five September contests he has appeared in. Tuesday's performance also served as the first multi-hit outing for the 27-year-old in the 2015 season.
Sep 4 2015Solano was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Friday.Solano will receive a chance to polish his brutal 2015 stat line, currently standing at .156/.194/.219 in 67 plate appearances. He will likely occupy his usual utility infielder role, with some pinch hitting also in the cards now that rosters have expanded and benches have deepened.
Aug 3 2015Solano was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Monday.Solano, who came off the paternity list last week, will head down to Triple-A for the second time this season to clear a spot for Tomas Telis, who was recalled Monday. Solano has struggled mightily in 46 appearances for the Marlins, going just 10-for-64 at the plate with 12 strikeouts and just one walk.
Jul 31 2015Solano was reinstated from the paternity list Friday.Solano should provide the Marlins with some extra depth around the infield now that he's returned to the roster, but he probably won't receive starts on a consistent basis.
Jul 28 2015Solano was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Solano will be required to miss Tuesday's contest, but he could be back with the team as early as Wednesday. Per MLB rules, he's allowed to remain on the paternity list for up to three games.
Jun 27 2015Solano was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. The 27-year-old has been used sparingly throughout the season (59 at-bats) and hasn't performed when given an opportunity (.153/.180/.220). Miguel Rojas replaced Solano on the active roster and will effectively inherit his role as a utility infielder.
Jun 2 2015Solano is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Solano has been splitting time with Adeiny Hechavarria of late, and the Marlins will go with Hechavarria at shortstop Tuesday against Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Solano is hitting just .188 against righties this season, compared to .286 versus lefties, though the sample size remains small.
May 9 2015Solano is not in the lineup for Saturday's matchup with the Giants, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Solano got the start at second base in place of Dee Gordon (leg) on Friday, but with lefty Madison Baumgarner on the hill for San Francisco, the Marlins will go with Jeff Baker at second, as Gordon remains out. He pushed his spring average up to .313 (10-for-32) following the three-hit assault while playing all over the infield during the exhibition season. The veteran infielder appears to have the inside track to one of the final spots on the Marlins' bench.
Mar 22 2015Solano has six hits in 23 Grapefruit League at-bats as he competes for one of the Marlins' final two bench spots in camp, MLB.com reports. The Marlins' lack of a competent second baseman has given Solano plenty of opportunity to establish himself as a viable starter at the position in seasons past. Thanks to offseason addition of Dee Gordon, however, the 27-year-old Solano is now fighting to hold onto a bench job in camp. Reid Brignac and Scott Sizemore are in the mix with Solano to earn a spot as a utility infielder.
Sep 26 2014Solano went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Thursday's win over the Phillies.Following a season of uncertainty at the keystone for the Marlins, Solano has functioned as a regular for the final six weeks of the season. He doesn't bring a whole lot of offensive upside as indicated by the .249/.301/.317 slash he's put together in 293 at-bats, but provides a solid glove for the team. Expect Solano to compete with the defensively challenged Derek Dietrich for the starting job at second base next spring.
Sep 19 2014Solano is out of the lineup Friday. It's just a standard day off for Solano, who has become the Marlins' everyday second baseman down the stretch. Enrique Hernandez will get the start at the keystone Friday.

Aug 16 2014Solano went 1-for-3 with a run scored Friday against the Diamondbacks while making his second straight start at second base.Solano is batting just .258/.310/.340 for the year, but he's seen some time in the starting lineup lately thanks to Jordany Veldespin's struggles in the field. The team will continue to mix and match at the keystone until Derek Dietrich (wrist) is ready to return in September.
Aug 13 2014Solano blasted a two-run home run Tuesday to help the Marlins beat the Cardinals.Relegated primarily to a bench role as the Marlins search for solutions at second base, Solano took advantage of his starting nod Tuesday, touching up Adam Wainwright for a two-run shot. The long ball was just his second of the season and seventh in 797 career at-bats. Solano may earn some additional playing time following the strong effort, but his .258/.309/.338 slash line over 151 at-bats this year leaves a lot to be desired at the plate.
Jul 28 2014Solano is out of the lineup Monday against the Nationals.Solano started every game for Miami during the series against the Astros, but will take a seat in favor of Jordany Valdespin on Monday night. As a utility player, Valdespin represents an immediate threat to Solano's reps, as he could see several more starts at second base when he's not playing the outfield.
Jul 23 2014Solano will earn his second straight start at second base Wednesday vs. the Braves, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.Jordany Valdespin remains in the mix for primary duties at second base while Derek Dietrich and Rafael Furcal remain on the DL, but Solano earned himself another nod by virtue of his performance Tuesday night. He reached base in all five plate appearances, singling three times and doubling and walking once.
Jul 10 2014Solano went 2-for-5 with a two-run double in Wednesday's loss to Arizona. The Marlins' second baseman was set to play hero, knocking a tenth-inning double to break a 1-1 tie, but closer Steve Cishek could not seal the deal. Still, it was solid effort from Solano, who is batting .317 (13-for-41) in his last 10 contests. He'll continue to split time with Ed Lucas at second base for the foreseeable future.
Jul 6 2014Solano is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.Solano has made four straight starts for the Marlins, but stands to lose playing time following Saturday's activation of Adeiny Hechavarria. Ed Lucas will man the keystone in his stead, in what will likely turn into a timeshare at second base.
Jul 5 2014Solano went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.Solano made his fourth straight start for the Marlins and has hit in three straight games. He'll have a chance to earn some playing time at second base with Derek Dietrich (wrist) on the DL, but the impending return Adeiny Hechavarria (triceps) should put Ed Lucas in the mix for at-bats at the keystone as well. Though Solano doesn't offer much pop at the dish, he is certainly capable of more than the .214/.267/.262 slash he's put together in 84 at-bats this season.
Jun 25 2014Solano was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday, Juan Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.Solano was sent to the minors just over a week ago, but he'll head right back to the Marlins after Adeiny Hechavarria was diagnosed with a strained triceps and placed on the DL in a subsequent move. Ed Lucas looks to have the inside track to see most of the time at shortstop while Hechavarria remains sidelined, leaving Solano to assume a utility infield role.
Jun 16 2014Solano was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Monday, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.Solano spent the entirety of the season with the big club but failed to make much traction in the lineup, garnering just 51 at-bats in two-and-a-half months. He'll take a .196/.226/.255 line with him to the minors, where he'll supply organizational depth to the Marlins' infield.
Jun 4 2014Solano went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer Wednesday against the Rays.Solano's go-ahead shot proved to be the deciding factor Wednesday, as the Marlins outlasted the Rays 5-4. He doubled his season RBI total with one swing of the bat, which represented his first long ball of the year. Solano very rarely receives playing time, but he made his opportunity count Wednesday night.
Mar 27 2014Solano will be recalled to replace the injured Ed Lucas (hand) on the active roster, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. In a rather cruel twist of fate, Lucas was hit by a pitch and suffered a non-displaced fracture hours after being named to the Opening Day roster. His loss is Solano's gain, however, and the 26-year-old will rejoin the big club to fill a utility infield role after being sent down earlier Thursday.
Mar 27 2014Solano will begin the season at Triple-A New Orleans, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.Solano has posted a .313/.346/.396 slash line this spring and has played 195 games for the Marlins over the past two seasons, so this move comes as somewhat of a surprise. Given that the versatile 26 year old has been deployed at four different positions while batting .269 in his young big-league career, it is very likely that he will be back in a Marlins' uniform at some point in 2014.
Mar 21 2014Solano went 1-for-3 with a run scored Friday and is batting .342 (13-for-38) in Grapefruit League play. The strong spring performance comes at a fortunate time for the Marlins with Rafael Furcal (hamstring),Ed Lucas (hamstring) and Derek Dietrich (nose) all sidelined. Solano has a real chance to break camp as the team's starting second baseman and could play his way into a regular role in an unsettled lineup with a hot start.
Sep 29 2013Solano is not in the lineup Sunday against the Tigers.Solano has started all but two games since Aug. 10, and it seems the Marlins feel he deserves to get a head start on his offseason. Ed Lucas will man second and bat second in Solano's absence.
Sep 20 2013Solano doubled and singled out of the lead-off spot on his way to a 2-for-5 day versus the Nationals on Thursday. He's been hitting at the top of the lineup for the last four games and has responded with a strong 5-for-18 performance. Solano has put together a decent September -- batting .278/.342/.417 in 72 at-bats -- after losing playing time to both injury and ineffectiveness in the first half. As it stand now, he is likely enter 2014 in competition with Derek Dietrich for at-bats at second base.
Sep 15 2013Solano extended his hitting streak to six games Sunday at the Mets, tallying a single among his five at-bats.Solano has been particularly locked in at the plate in September, supplying hits in 12 of 14 games on his way to a .278/.350/.426 slash line, one home run, seven RBI, eight runs scored, one steal, and a 3:10 BB:K ratio. He'll continue to start everyday at the keystone for the remainder of the season, acting as a steady bat among the underwhelming options in the middle infield in many formats.
Sep 3 2013Solano went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a steal, two RBI and two runs Tuesday against the Cubs.A nice game for Solano, but he's still not much use in fantasy outside of NL-only formats.
Aug 31 2013Solano is not in the lineup Saturday against the Braves.Solano has gone hitless in seven of his last nine starts, watching his batting average take a nosedive from .262 to .247 in the process. Manager Mike Redmond is hoping that a day off may be all he needs to correct his approach at the plate.
Aug 19 2013Solano punched a pair of singles in Monday's win over the Dodgers, scoring once and driving in a run as well. The two-hit game gives Solano four mutli-hit efforts in his last seven games, over which time he's posted a .392 average (11-for-28) and .454 OBP to go along with five runs scored and six RBI. The second baseman batted .295 for the Marlins last season over 93 games with the club and is capable of racking up plenty of hits over the season's final six weeks.
Aug 17 2013Solano scored once and plated a pair of runs during a 3-for-5 effort in Friday's 14-10 loss to the Giants. He also drew a walk, reaching base four times on the evening. In fact, over his past four games, Solano has seven hits and a pair of walks in 20 plate appearances, good for a .450 OBP over that span. Despite his solid work, Solano has scored just once in those four games and has limited value even when running hot in the Marlins up-and-down lineup.
Aug 14 2013Solano drove in a pair of runs while going 2-for-5 in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.Though he's batting just .231 in his past 10 games, Solano does have two multi-hit efforts in his past three games. It's possible that the second baseman is heating up at the dish, but with limited power and speed, it is difficult to expect much run production from Solano. Over 61 games this season, he's posted a .259/.306/.313 line with 15 runs scored and 20 RBI.
Aug 8 2013Solano is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Pirates, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Thursday will mark Solano's first time out of the lineup since Derek Dietrich was sent down July 22. Solano has hit safely in four of six games so far this month, but the 25-year-old's .633 OPS for the season is indicative of the type of punch he packs offensively.
Aug 6 2013Solano knocked three singles in five at-bats Tuesday, scoring once and driving in a run, during a loss to the Pirates.Solano was moved up to the fifth spot in the order to face left-hander Jeff Locke, and though the move worked out for the second baseman, it would not be enough for the Marlins to capture victory. The multi-hit effort was Solano's first in his past 11 contests and though he's recaptured his role in the starting lineup in recent weeks, the offensive production remains underwhelming with a .264/.313/.320 slash over 178 at-bats this season.
Aug 2 2013Solano collected two RBI while going 1-for-3 in a 3-0 victory over the Mets on Thursday. All three of the Marlins runs -- the only three runs of the game -- came in the bottom of the sixth. Logan Morrison started the scoring, knocking an RBI single before Solano would knock both he and Christian Yelich in with a single of his own. After struggling early on in the season prior to landing on the disabled list, Solano has thrived since being inserted back in the every day lineup over the past couple of weeks. He is batting .294 (10-for-34) over his last 10 contests with one home run and eight RBI over that span.
Jul 25 2013Solano hit a two-run homer in Thursday's 5-3 win at Colorado.Solano's homer capped a four-run ninth inning, and ended up being the difference, as the Rockies scored three times in the bottom of the frame. Solano has hit well in four games since the demotion of Derek Dietrich, so look for him to continue to get most of the starts at second base.
Jul 25 2013Solano went 3-for-4 and drove in the Marlins lone run in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.Solano has made three straight starts at second base following the demotion of Derek Dietrich and has responded over the past two days, knocking five hits in eight at-bats. He doesn't offer much power or speed, but Solano has shown ability to put the ball in play and provide a decent batting average with a .290/.338/.361 slash line over 136 career major league games.
Jul 22 2013Making just his third start in July, Solano went 0-for-4 Monday versus the Rockies.Though the performance was unimpressive, Solano could be in line to see a solid boost in playing time following the demotion of Derek Dietrich. Ed Lucas also figures to get some at-bats at second base, but the Marlins are likely to give their opening-day starter another crack at an everyday role.
Jul 1 2013Solano was recalled by the Marlins after Monday's game, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. With outfielder Jordan Brown optioned off of the active roster, Solano will be up to provide some bullpen help for the time being. His stint in the majors may be a short one, however, as the team needs to find a spot for Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) before Thursday's game.
Jun 10 2013Solano (oblique) was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Monday, the Sun Sentinel reports.Solano has been rehabbing with High-A Jupiter, along with Giancarlo Stanton and Joe Mahoney, for the past week, and he'll likely split time with rookie Derek Dietrich once he returns to the big league club. Prior to the injury, Solano boasted a .278/.333/.324 slash line.
Jun 6 2013Solano (oblique) is targeting a Monday return to the Marlins, MLB.com reports.Solano has been swinging well in his rehab work at High-A Jupiter, going 4-for-6 over his last two games. He'll return to a passable .278/.333/.324 slash line, but also to some competition for at-bats from rookie Derek Dietrich, who has flashed an impressive power stroke while filling in for Solano. Expect a time share at second base as Donovan is eased back into an everyday role, though Solano could also see some time at third base when the Fish decide to give Placido Polanco some rest.
Jun 3 2013Solano (oblique) was sent out on a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter on Monday.Solano will return to game action after missing nearly a month while recovering from a sore oblique. He figures to spend a few games in the minors and could return to the big leagues later this week.
May 29 2013Solano (oblique) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter sometime this week, according to the Palm Beach Post.Solano is making progress in extended spring training games and is apparently not far away from returning to the big club. His position in the starting lineup, however, is in question at this point with rookie Derek Dietrich, who has popped three home runs with seven runs scored and eighth RBI in 17 games, successfully adding some punch to the middle of the Marlins batting order. Dietrich is batting just .184 in his last 10-games, but remains one of the few threats in the Marlins lineup to put a ball over the fence. Expect a timeshare at second base for Solano when he returns with the potential that he could see additional at-bats a the hot corner whenever veteran Placido Polanco needs a breather.
May 25 2013Solano (oblique) will report to extended spring training Monday, the Associated Press reports. This will be the first part of a rehab process that should involve minor league action. Derek Dietrich has been a capable replacement at second for the past few weeks, but Solano would likely have priority on his old job.
May 7 2013The Marlins placed Solano (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports.Solano's sore oblique has not improved over the last couple days, so the Marlins decided to place him on the disabled list and give him time to rest. Solano has not played since May 3, so he will be eligible to return May 19. Nick Green was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to take Solano's place on the roster.
May 6 2013Solano (oblique) is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Padres.Solano is set to sit again Monday, meaning Chris Valaika will make a third straight start at second base. Continue to consider Solano day-to-day until there's indication otherwise.
May 6 2013Solano (oblique) is likely headed for the disabled list, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. An official move hasn't been made, but it sounds like the Marlins will place Solano on the DL and bring up some infield help. He was scratched from Saturday's lineup with tightness in his left side and is out of the lineup Monday for a second straight day. Chris Valaika figures to see the bulk of the starts at second base while Solano's on the shelf.
May 5 2013Solano (oblique) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.Solano experienced tightness on his left side prior to Saturday's game and will now sit out for the second straight game. Consider him day-to-day going forward with Chris Valaika picking up any further starts Solano may miss.
May 4 2013Solano has been scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Phillies, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports.A reason for Solano's removal from the lineup has not yet been given, nor has there has been word on who will replace Solano at second base and atop the batting order.
May 4 2013Solano was scratched from Saturday's lineup with tightness in his left side, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Following Solano's removal from the lineup, Chris Valaika is set to man second base and lead off against Phillies lefty Cole Hamels with Greg Dobbs stepping in at first. Solano can be considered day-to-day for the time being.
May 3 2013Solano was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a losing effort as the Marlins dropped a 4-1 decision to Philadelphia Friday night. The Marlins struggle for offense most night, but Solano has been a bit of a bright spot lately. He has now hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, and has six multi-hit games over that span to raise his average to a respectable .278 on the season. Unfortunately he has just the one home run, and only five RBI so his overall production is somewhat limited.
May 2 2013Solano knocked a pair of singles Thursday during the Marlins 7-2 loss to the Phillies. With the 2-for-4 effort, Solano has hit in eight of his last nine contests (13-for-37) with five mutli-hit games over that span. His batting average is now at a palatable .269 for the year and rising, but with zero home runs and only one stolen base, Solano doesn't exactly fill up the box score.
Apr 15 2013Solano will return to the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.Solano will return to the lineup after receiving a day off Sunday and has now started 12 of the Marlins' 13 games this season. He will bat eighth Monday.
Apr 14 2013Solano is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Phillies, the Palm Beach Post reports.Solano has started all 11 games this season for the Marlins, so it appears manager Mike Redmond is simply viewing Sunday's game as an opportunity to give Solano a breather. Chris Valaika will get the start at second base in place of Solano.
Apr 4 2013Solano had two hits and a walk in four trips to the plate Wednesday as the Marlins fell to the Nationals 6-1.Solano's performance qualifies him as an offensive standout amongst a sorry lineup that scored only a single run in their three-game set against Washington. Solano is looking to build off of a solid rookie season in which he posted a .296/.342/.375 slash line over 285 at-bats. He's off to a nice start, going 3-for-9 with two walks and just one strikeout in the opening series.
Mar 27 2013Solano (back) returned to action Wednesday, playing four innings in a minor league game. "I'm ready to go," Solano told MLB.com.Solano is slated to play in a Grapefruit League game on Thursday and fully expected to start at second base on Opening Day for the Marlins. The 25-year-old infielder batted .295/.342/.375 over 285 at-bats in 2012, scoring 29 runs and driving in 28 on the year and will look to build on those totals during his first full season in the majors.
Mar 26 2013Solano (back) will appear in a minor league contest Wednesday, before playing with the Marlins on Thursday, the Palm Beach Post reports.Solano has dealt with tightness in his back, which has held him out of the lineup in the interim. He is progressing well, though, and will soon return to the field. Nevertheless, consider the Marlins' starter at second base day-to-day.
Mar 25 2013Solano (back) participated in batting practice on Monday. "He's progressing. He's feeling a lot better," manager Mike Redmond told the Miami Herald.Solano had an MRI on his back on Saturday that revealed muscle tightness and it appears the Marlins' second baseman is nearing a return to game-action. The Marlins hope to get him into a Grapefruit League game before the exhibition season closes on Thursday.
Mar 23 2013Solano had an MRI performed on his back Saturday, which revealed muscle tightness, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Nonetheless, he intends to play in at least two of the Marlins' five exhibition outings in the coming week.Solano has been held out of the lineup since Wednesday due to a tight back, so there is really no change in his current status. We are unsure when he'll be able to return to the field, but consider the Marlins' starting second baseman day-to-day in the meantime.
Mar 20 2013Solano has been held out of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game due to a tight back, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. After a strong performance to date in spring training -- a .409/.426/.455 slash line, seven RBI, seven runs, and one stolen base in 44 at-bats -- Solano has a clear stranglehold on the starting second base gig with the Marlins. Consider him day-to-day with his current ailment.
Feb 27 2013Solano went 2-for-2 with one run scored, one RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's victory over the Nationals. The second-sacker did a bit of everything in the exhibition, while batting out of the two-hole for Miami. Solano registered a solid .295/.342/.375 slash line in 285 at-bats for the Marlins in 2012 and will look to build off of those numbers during his first full season in the majors in 2013.
Sep 25 2012Solano hit his first two home runs of the season Tuesday against the Braves, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI.He had 254 major league at bats without a home run and then he hit two off the hottest pitcher in baseball, Kris Medlen. Solano's season-high for home runs in the minor leagues was four in 2010 for the Cardinals' AAA affiliate, so he could very easily go another 254 at bats without another long ball.
Sep 8 2012Solano went 2-for-5 Friday with an RBI and two steals. He's got six hits in his last three games, and after hitting .302 in August he's 9-for-31 (.290) in September. Look for Solano to have a significant role with the Marlins next season.
Sep 8 2012Solano went 2-for-4 with two runs scored an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Nationals.Solano has performed at a surprisingly high level since being handed an everyday spot in the lineup following the departure of Omar Infante and Hanley Ramirez. He's now batting a commendable .296 while chipping in seven steals, though his zero home runs on the season severely inhibit his fantasy value.
Aug 27 2012Solano went 1-for-5 with a run scored Sunday, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He's now hitting .298/.362/.333 through 84 August at-bats, albeit with only one steal, seven RBI and nine runs scored, and at the very least seems to have sewn up a spot for himself as a utility infielder with the Marlins in 2013.
Jul 27 2012Solano, getting another start at third base on Thursday and hitting second, went 0-for-1 but drew three walks, stole two bases and scored the Marlins only run in a 7-1 loss to the Braves. He's got a .322/.406/.441 line with four steals in 59 at-bats, and barring another trade that brings in someone to take over at the hot corner it looks like Solano is going to get a long look at third for Miami. There isn't much in his minor league profile to indicate he can sustain that slash line but if you need stolen base help, he could be worth a look.
Jul 25 2012Solano is starting at third base and batting second Wednesday against the Braves, the team's official Twitter reports.Solano will get the first crack at replacing Hanley Ramirez at third base after Ramirez was officially traded to the Dodgers on Wednesday morning. Expect Greg Dobbs to get a fair share of at-bats at third as well with Ramirez out of town.
Jun 15 2012Solano was 1-for-3 with a walk and his first major league stolen base Friday night.Unfortunately, it was the only hit Miami could put up against a masterful Matt Moore, but Solano is getting fairly regular at-bats while playing multiple positions (he played third and short in this game), and has responded with a very nice .393 average. He is unlikely to continue hitting at that clip, but he could get playing time as long as he keeps producing.
Jun 13 2012Solano is starting in left field and batting second on Wednesday, the Palm Beach Post reports.Solano will make his fourth start in seven games, this time in place of Logan Morrison. Solano has batted 4-for-10 in his last three starts, netting two doubles and two RBI. Sustained excellence could lead to Solano becoming a more regular fixture in the lineup.
Jun 12 2012Solano got a start at second base on Monday, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.Omar Infante was just getting a routine day off, but if Solano keeps producing when given the chance Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen may start to find more excuses to give his starters routine days off.
Jun 10 2012With Donnie Murphy being designated for assignment on Saturday, Solano's spot on the Marlins' bench is secure. He went 1-for-4 on Saturday getting a start in left field, and has hit .444 (8-for-18) with two doubles since joining the club. Unless an injury hits a starting infielder though, Solano isn't going to see a lot of playing time.
May 27 2012Solano got a start in left field Saturday against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and went 2-for-4 with an RBI.He's made the most of his limited chances since being called up, but barring another Marlins injury, at-bats will be tough to come by for Solano.
May 20 2012Solano has been promoted to the Marlins, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports.Solano, who was the Marlins' final cut this spring after hitting .429, will move up from Triple-A New Orleans to give the Marlins some added infield depth.
