Mar 23 2025 | Moore has decided not to opt out of his contract and will begin the campaign at Triple-A Worcester, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As a veteran on a minor-league contract with over six years of service time, Moore had the option to opt out of his deal and look for an opportunity elsewhere. However, the lefty reliever appears set to accept a spot on Boston's Triple-A roster to begin the 2025 campaign. Moore suffered a forearm injury last August that ended a rough campaign with the Angels during which he posted a 5.03 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 48.1 innings. Moore didn't allow an earned run and posted a 2:2 K:BB over three innings this spring, and he'll be an option for a call-up when the Red Sox need reinforcements in their bullpen. |
Feb 20 2025 | The Red Sox signed Moore to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Red Sox were looking for some left-handed relief depth with Zach Penrod going down with an elbow injury. Moore is coming back from an injury of his own, having missed the final month of last season with a left forearm strain. However, the southpaw has been throwing this offseason without any apparent issues, per Bradford. Moore held a 5.03 ERA and 41:26 over 48.1 frames with the Angels in 2024, but he was very effective from 2022 to 2023 with a 2.20 ERA and 27.4 percent strikeout rate. If heathy, the 35-year-old should have a good shot to make Boston's Opening Day roster. |
Sep 10 2024 | The Angels transferred Moore (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Eric Wagaman. Moore's season is now officially over due to a left forearm strain which has kept him out since late August. |
Sep 7 2024 | Moore (forearm) hadn't yet resumed throwing as of Wednesday, per MLB.com. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore has been on the injured list since Aug. 27 due to a left forearm strain. The southpaw said this week that he hopes to return to game action before the end of the campaign but also indicated that he doesn't plan to take any risks that could impact his long-term availability. Given that the Angels are well out of playoff contention, it seems likely that they will be conservative in determining when (or if) he will return to game action this season. |
Aug 27 2024 | The Angels placed Moore on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left elbow injury. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore had to be lifted from an appearance Sunday versus the Blue Jays due to the injury. He will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks and potentially longer. Ryan Miller is taking Moore's spot on the Angels' roster. |
Aug 25 2024 | Moore was removed from Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays due to an elbow injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran left-hander recorded just one out and allowed two runs on a hit and a walk before exiting Sunday's contest due to the injury. The specifics of the elbow issue are unclear, and Moore will be evaluated further when the Angels arrive in Detroit ahead of Tuesday's series opener. |
Jun 5 2024 | Moore pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore was called on for ninth-inning duties since Carlos Estevez had pitched both Monday and Tuesday. The save was Moore's first of the season, and he hadn't even picked up a hold in any of his last nine appearances after taking a blown save May 13 versus the Cardinals. The southpaw has a 5.32 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB over 23.2 innings this season, adding eight holds and a 2-2 record. Moore's poor ratios make him a less-than-ideal candidate for ancillary saves, especially as long as he's playing an Angels club that is 24-38 on the year. |
Jan 23 2024 | Moore signed a one-year, $9 million contract with the Angels on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore spent time with the Angels last season, logging a 2.66 ERA and 1.02 WHIP alongside a 49:12 K:BB across 44 innings before being waived in late August. After brief stints with the Guardians and Marlins to close the season, Moore will return to Anaheim to give the Angels a reliever capable of handling high-leverage situations. |
Oct 1 2023 | Moore was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran left-hander wasn't eligible to pitch for Miami in the playoffs since he was acquired in mid-September, so the organization opted to move on. Moore delivered four scoreless appearances during his brief time with the Marlins and finishes 2023 with a 2.56 ERA across 52.2 innings overall. |
Sep 19 2023 | Miami claimed Moore off waivers from the Guardians on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore will not be eligible for the playoffs given where this move falls on the season calendar, but he can give the Marlins' bullpen a boost over what remains of the regular season as they try to nail down a National League wild-card spot. The veteran left-hander has registered a strong 2.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 57:14 K:BB in 48.2 innings of relief this year between Anaheim and Cleveland. |
Aug 31 2023 | Moore was claimed off waivers by the Guardians on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Guardians were busy Thursday, adding Moore and Reynaldo Lopez to their bullpen and Lucas Giolito to their rotation via the waiver process. Moore has had an excellent season, putting up a 2.66 ERA and 49:12 K:BB over 44 frames as a setup man for the Halos. He'll give Cleveland a left-handed bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase. |
Aug 29 2023 | The Angels placed Moore on waivers Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk have also been made available to other teams as the Angels throw in the towel on the 2023 season and look to gain some salary relief. Moore, 34, carries a 2.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB through 43 innings this year and should be of interest as a bullpen addition for just about any contending club. |
Aug 26 2023 | Moore earned a hold against the Mets on Friday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore had a rare blow-up his previous time on the mound, giving up three runs in one inning against Cincinnati. He was back in form Friday, escaping with a scoreless frame despite seeing the first two batters he faced reach base via a double and an error. Moore has held the opponent scoreless in 13 of his last 14 appearances, notching eight holds while posting a 1.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB over 14 innings during that span. The southpaw leads the Angels with 20 holds on the campaign. |
Aug 10 2023 | Moore earned a hold against the Giants on Wednesday, issuing one walk and striking out one batter in a hitless and scoreless inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore worked as the eighth-inning bridge to closer Carlos Estevez, and he navigated around a one-out walk to keep San Francisco off the scoreboard. The lefty reliever missed nearly eight weeks of action between mid-May and mid-July due to an oblique injury, but, remarkably, he still leads the Angels -- and is tied for ninth in the AL -- with 17 holds. Moore's outstanding stat line includes a 1.70 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB over 37 innings. |
Jul 14 2023 | Moore (oblique) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Moore will resume his reliever role for the outset of the second half after missing seven weeks with an oblique injury. He has a 1.44 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings. |
Jul 5 2023 | Moore (oblique) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is expected to be ready to return to the Angels following the All-Star break, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore was temporarily shut down from throwing after experiencing some soreness following a simulated game June 24. However, the southpaw was able to get back on the mound Tuesday and is slated to throw another bullpen this weekend. If he does so without any setbacks, Moore appears in line to be activated for the Angels' first game back from the All-Star break July 14. |
Jun 25 2023 | Moore (oblique) is dealing with some soreness after he threw a simulated game Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Phil Nevin indicated the soreness isn't believed to be a setback, though it's certainly not an encouraging sign with the lefty closing in on his return from the injured list. Moore isn't throwing Sunday and will be re-evaluated Monday before the next steps in his rehab are determined. |
Jun 24 2023 | Moore (oblique) told reporters Saturday that he won't be activated off the injured list Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore threw a bullpen before Saturday's game against the Rockies, and he told reporters it went "ok" but not well enough to come off the 15-day IL come Monday. The left-hander said he needs at least one more session, and when that will come will be determined by how he feels Sunday. Once active, Moore should be a high-leverage option for the Angels' bullpen again. |
Jun 20 2023 | Moore (oblique) will throw a bullpen Wednesday before a simulated game over the weekend, and he could return to the major-league roster early next week, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore has been on the shelf since the end of May with a Grade 2 oblique strain. It appears the southpaw has a chance to return to the Los Angeles relief staff without a rehab stint, but that likely will be determined by how the simulated action over the weekend goes. One way or another, Moore should be pitching in the late innings for the Angels by the end of June. |
Jun 18 2023 | Moore (oblique) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Phil Nevin said Sunday that Moore's bullpen went better than expected, and the southpaw is scheduled for another bullpen Tuesday or Wednesday. If he feels good again following his mid-week throwing session, it wouldn't be surprising to see him embark on a rehab assignment soon. |
Jun 11 2023 | Moore (oblique) said he played catch from 60 feet Sunday, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore is gradually increasing his throwing distance off flat ground while he's in the early stages of a throwing program following a roughly two-week shutdown due to a right oblique strain. The veteran southpaw will need to advance to throwing off a mound and then facing hitters in live batting practice before the Angels map out a rehab assignment for him. |
Jun 10 2023 | Moore (oblique) was able to play catch on the field prior to Saturday's game against Seattle, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore was cleared to resume a throwing program Friday, and the left-hander's first step is being able to participate in a game of catch. The left-hander is recovering from a Grade 2 oblique strain, and the hope is that he'll be able to return to the Angels' bullpen by the end of June. |
May 28 2023 | The Angels placed Moore on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right oblique strain. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore suffered the injury while throwing prior to Friday's 6-2 win over the Marlins. According to Sam Blum of The Athletic, Angels manager Phil Nevin said Moore is dealing with a Grade 2 strain and is without a timeline for a return, though the expectation is that the southpaw will miss more than the minimum 15 days. The Angels called up right-hander Ben Joyce from Double-A Rocket City on Sunday to take Moore's spot in the bullpen. |
May 13 2023 | Moore (3-1) earned the win over the Guardians on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out one batter over two innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: By most standards, this was actually Moore's worst outing of the campaign, as it was the first time in 17 trips to the mound that he has allowed multiple hits and just the third time he's allowed an earned run. However, a ninth-inning Angels comeback put the left-hander in line for his third victory of the campaign. Moore has been excellent out of the bullpen in his first season with the Angels, notching a team-high eight holds while registering a 1.35 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB over 20 innings. |
Feb 16 2023 | Moore agreed to terms on a one-year, $7.55 million contract with the Angels on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore had been one of the best remaining available free agents after posting a 1.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 83:38 K:BB over 74 innings for the Rangers last season. He also collected five saves and should be in the late-inning mix for the Angels in 2023, particularly since he was effective against hitters from both sides of the plate, holding righties to a .537 OPS and lefties to a .634 OPS. |
Oct 5 2022 | Moore earned a save after he tossed a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one walk while striking out a batter in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with protecting a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth, Moore worked around a one-out walk and pitched a scoreless frame, notching a save. The save was his sixth of the year and second in as many days. Moore will finish the 2022 campaign with a 1.95 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while striking out 83 batters over 74 innings in 63 appearances with the Rangers. |
Aug 22 2022 | Moore struck out one in a perfect inning with one strikeout to pick up the save Monday against the Twins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers turned to the southpaw Monday for the save, his third of the season. Moore has excelled in his first season as a full-time reliever as he owns a 2.05 ERA which would be the best mark of his career and first time under 4.00 since 2014. Despite earning the save Monday (which was his first since July 28), the veteran appears to be in a closer-by-committee situation, as the Rangers have 10 relievers with at least one save this season. |
Aug 18 2022 | The Rangers reinstated Moore (personal) from the bereavement list Thursday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a three-day stint on the paternity list, Moore was moved to the bereavement list Wednesday so he could spend an extra day with his wife and newborn child. Now ready to rejoin the Rangers for Thursday's series finale, Moore should settle back into a late-inning role in the bullpen. |
Aug 17 2022 | The Rangers transferred Moore (personal) from the paternity list to the bereavement list Wednesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Levi Weaver of The Athletic, Moore's newborn child is fine; the veteran southpaw asked to spend more than the maximum three days away from the team, and the Rangers were able to facilitate his request by moving him to a different inactive list. Players can spend a maximum of seven days on the bereavement list, so Moore should be expected to rejoin the Rangers by the middle of next week, if not sooner. |
Aug 14 2022 | Moore was placed on the paternity list Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore recorded a hold with a scoreless frame Saturday and will now step away from the team for a few days to be with his family. Yerry Rodriguez was promoted from Triple-A Round Rock to fill out the Rangers' bullpen. |
Jul 28 2022 | Moore allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 2-0 win over the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brett Martin had pitched three of the last four days and was presumably unavailable for Thursday's save chance. Moore gave up a one-out single to Luis Rengifo but didn't give up anything else to secure his second save of the season. Through 12 innings this month, Moore has allowed four runs (one earned), nine hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out 11. He's maintained a 1.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 52:24 K:BB through 47.2 innings while adding four holds and a 4-2 record. Given his solid pitching this year, the veteran southpaw could be traded prior to Tuesday's deadline, though his multi-inning capability makes it a bit less likely that he'll see significant high-leverage chances. |
Jun 30 2022 | Moore allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Kansas City. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore remains unblemished for the month of June with four hits and four walks allowed while striking out 15 over 13.1 scoreless innings. The 33-year-old lefty, who sports a 182 ERA+ for the season, is part of a Texas bullpen that's ranked ninth during the month of June with a 3.40 ERA. |
Jun 13 2022 | Moore threw a perfect inning and earned a save over Houston on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore needed just six pitches to quickly retire the Astros in order and finish off the 5-3 win. He's riding a six-inning scoreless streak since coughing up three runs against the Rays on May 30. The veteran southpaw is sporting a 2.54 ERA with a 35:16 K:BB through 28.1 innings. |
Jun 11 2022 | Moore (3-0) picked up the win Saturday against the White Sox, striking out five batters across a pair of scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore entered a tied game in the bottom of the eighth and did his job expertly across the next two frames, striking out five batters while getting the sixth to pop out. That left him as the pitcher of record when the Rangers scored four runs in the top of the 10th. Moore has been surprisingly effect in a relief role this season, cruising to a 2.63 ERA and 29.7 percent strikeout rate in 27.1 innings of work. |
Apr 16 2022 | Moore's contract was selected by the Rangers on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore joined the Rangers on a minor-league deal in mid-March, but he'll now link up with the big-league club after Josh Sborz (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 32-year-old Moore made two relief appearances at Triple-A Round Rock to begin the year, and he struck out seven in five scoreless frames. Although the southpaw has experience as a starter, he'll likely pitch out of the bullpen for now. |
Mar 13 2022 | Moore agreed Sunday with the Rangers on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, independent baseball journalist Jeff Wilson reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore will be embarking on his second stint with the Rangers, after he previously spent the 2018 campaign in Texas, with whom he posted a 6.79 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 102 innings. The Rangers have since opened a more pitcher-friendly ballpark, but the fact that Moore is now four years older and attending camp as a non-roster invitee makes it an uphill battle for him to claim a rotation spot with the big club, much less find success in his second tour with Texas. Moore at least appears to be healthy again, after he finished the 2021 campaign on the Phillies' injured list with a low-back strain. Before being shut down, he made 24 appearances (13 starts) for the Phillies, submitting a 6.29 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 63:38 K:BB in 73 frames. |
Sep 25 2021 | Moore (back) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move confirms that the back strain that sent Moore to the injured list Thursday will in fact be season-ending. His return to MLB after a 2020 season spent in Japan wound up being a disappointing one, as he struggled to a 6.29 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 13 starts and 11 relief appearances. The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for the Phillies to select Kyle Dohy's contract. |
Sep 23 2021 | Moore was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 20. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore tweaked his back during batting practice Wednesday, and the issue will force him to spent time on the injured list. He'll be eligible to return prior to the end of the regular season since the move was backdated to Monday, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be healthy enough in time. Left-hander Cristopher Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place in the bullpen. |
Sep 4 2021 | Moore will be available out of the bullpen Saturday, with the Phillies expected to go with bullpen days in what had been his spot in the rotation, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore has been ineffective for most of the season, struggling to a 6.49 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 13 starts and eight relief appearances. The expanded September rosters mean the Phillies won't need to use him to eat innings, though he could still be used in a multi-inning relief role during those bullpen games. |
Aug 31 2021 | Moore surrendered five runs on six hits and five walks while striking out two over 3.1 innings during Tuesday's win over the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A lack of control plagued Moore once again. The southpaw threw only 38 of his 82 pitches for strikes, registering a strike rate of 46.3 percent. Moore's start is the first by a Phillies pitcher with five-plus walks and two or fewer strikeouts since Henderson Alvarez in 2017. The 32-year-old has eclipsed five innings in a start just once across his last seven outings. Moore could potentially see another turn in the rotation if Zach Eflin (knee) remains on the shelf. If so, he lines up for a road start Monday at Milwaukee. |
Aug 26 2021 | Moore (2-4) picked up the loss Thursday pitching four innings while allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a loss to Arizona. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore ran into trouble early Thursday allowing four consecutive singles in the second inning to plate two runs, while also later surrendering a two-run home run to Nick Ahmed. The southpaw only threw 70 pitches total in the contest, and has surpassed five innings in a start once across his last six outings. Moore will likely take the mound next week in Washington. |
Aug 21 2021 | Moore didn't factor into the decision Friday against San Diego after allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while fanning four across 4.1 innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore has managed to bounce back from his Aug. 10 outing against the Dodgers, in which he gave up three runs and recorded just one out, and he's now allowed just two runs across 10.1 innings (two starts) since rejoining the rotation. He's started in 11 of his 19 appearances, though his recent performances have not been very good. He has given up at least two earned runs in all but one of his last nine outings, posting a 6.03 ERA across 37.1 innings in that span. |
Aug 20 2021 | Moore is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Padres in San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore joined the rotation last week as a replacement for Chase Anderson, who had been moved to the injured list with a triceps issue. Though the veteran southpaw had maintained a 7.67 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in his previous seven outings with the Phillies before his Aug. 14 start against the Reds, he surprised by striking out eight over six no-hit innings. Moore's body of work this season would suggest his most recent start is a massive outlier, but he'll at least get the chance to make one more turn through the rotation while a now-healthy Anderson works out of the bullpen. |
Aug 14 2021 | Moore (2-3) picked up the win Saturday, tossing six no-hit, scoreless innings while walking two and striking out eight in a 6-1 win over the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran southpaw got the hook after 76 pitches (48 strikes) and handed things over to the Phillies' bullpen hoping for a combined no-hitter or at least a shutout, and predictably it couldn't get the job done as Archie Bradley served up a leadoff homer to Tyler Stephenson in the eighth inning. Both of Moore's wins on the season have come in August, as he got the victory Aug. 4 against the Nats after working four innings of long relief, but despite Saturday's outstanding effort, his 6.07 ERA on the season will likely bump him back to the bullpen once one of the Phillies' other rotation options gets healthy. |
Aug 11 2021 | Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Moore will likely start Saturday's game against the Reds, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Unless he's needed in relief during the Phillies' next three games, Moore will step back into the rotation as a replacement for Chase Anderson (triceps), who was placed on the injured list last weekend. Whether working as a starter or long reliever this season, Moore has been hit hard (2.1 HR/9, 1.63 WHIP) and has exhibited poor control (9.4 percent walk rate). Even in NL-only formats, Moore may do more harm than good for fantasy managers. |
Jul 31 2021 | Moore will be a reliever for the Phillies going forward, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran had pitched fairly well before allowing six runs in his last two starts, which ballooned his ERA to 6.46 in 46 innings this season. Given his struggles, Moore doesn't figure to get any high-leverage opportunities out of the bullpen. Ranger Suarez will serve as Moore's replacement in the starting rotation. |
Jul 28 2021 | Moore (0-3) took the loss Tuesday versus the Nationals after giving up six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks over four innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore served up a three-run home run in each of the first two frames as Washington jumped out to an early lead. It's the second consecutive outing in which the left-hander gave up exactly six runs. He appeared set to lose his spot in the rotation with the Phillies on the verge of acquiring Tyler Anderson from the Pirates on Tuesday, but the trade fell through due to medicals after an initial agreement was reached. Moore has a 6.46 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 40:22 K:BB across 46 innings this season, and he tentatively lines up for his next turn through the rotation Sunday in Pittsburgh. |
Jul 22 2021 | Moore (0-2) allowed six earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four across six innings to take the loss Thursday against Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The majority of the damage Moore surrendered came in the third inning. He retired the first two batters he faced but allowed two singles and a walk before serving up a grand slam to Dansby Swanson. This was Moore's longest outing of the season, which at least offset the damage of his outing to some degree. Moore now has a 5.79 ERA with a 37:20 K:BB across 42 innings on the campaign. |
Jul 16 2021 | Moore gave up two runs on six hits and zero walks while striking out nine through 4.1 innings in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Marlins. He did not factor in the decision. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore's prior season-high in strikeouts was five on April 11 in Atlanta, so this seems like quite an outlier of a performance for the journeyman lefty. He has failed to log more than 4.1 innings in any of his last three appearances and tentatively lines up to face the Yankees on the road Wednesday. |
Jul 5 2021 | Moore gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts across four innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The runs against the left-hander came on a Jake Marisnick solo home run and a Javier Baez RBI double. Moore essentially had a turn skipped in the rotation after his spot start last Thursday was rained out -- his previous appearance was June 25. He's pitched to a 5.60 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB across 27.1 innings in a versatile role. He tentatively projects to make one more start before the All-Star break, but it would be a tough one during this weekend's series in Boston. |
Jul 1 2021 | Moore and the Phillies won't play the Marlins on Thursday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Philadelphia, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two sides have yet to announce a make-up date for the postponed game. Considering that Moore was scheduled to make a spot start Thursday after Zach Eflin fell ill, the Phillies may elect to push the southpaw to the back of their pitching schedule. If that's the case, Moore likely wouldn't be in line to make his next start until Tuesday in Chicago against the Cubs. |
Jun 29 2021 | Phillies manager Joe Girardi said Moore will start Saturday's game against the Padres in Philadelphia, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: At least temporarily, Philadelphia will go with a six-man rotation, as both Moore and Spencer Howard are picking up starts this week. Howard lasted just 2.1 innings in Monday's 12-4 loss to the Reds and is now sitting on a 5.82 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across nine outings with the big club, so Moore could put himself in position to stick in the rotation over the youngster if the Phillies elect to move back to a five-man starting staff at some point. After struggling in his first three starts of the season, Moore was moved to the bullpen in late April, but he impressed in a spot start last week against the Mets. He worked five scoreless frames in that outing while limiting New York to three hits and one walk. |
Jun 25 2021 | Moore allowed three hits and a walk over five shutout innings in Friday's win over the Mets in the second game of the doubleheader. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was Moore's first outing since May 20 after he spent roughly a month on the injured list with a back issue. He turned in his best outing of the season and lowered his ERA to 5.79 through 23.1 innings. It's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation or head back to the bullpen. |
Jun 23 2021 | Moore will start one of the games in Friday's doubleheader against the Mets, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran southpaw was reinstated from the injured list Wednesday and will receive a starting opportunity in Friday's doubleheader. Moore has a 7.36 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB across 18.1 innings with five homers allowed this season. |
Jun 21 2021 | Moore (back) made his fourth rehab appearance for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, working six innings and giving up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore built up to 91 pitches in his latest rehab outing, which seemingly suggests the Phillies are viewing him as a potential rotation option once he's reinstated from the injured list. Spencer Howard has delivered uneven results since taking over as the Phillies' No. 5 starter in late May, and if he falters in his next opportunity, he could be swapped out of the rotation in favor of Moore. |
Jun 1 2021 | Moore will make his second rehab outing Thursday, starting for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore tossed three scoreless innings for Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Thursday's start seems likely to be his final tune-up before rejoining the Phillies, which is most likely to be in a long-relief role. |
May 22 2021 | Moore was placed on the 10-day injured list with lower-back spasms Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore won a spot in the Opening Day rotation but struggled to a 9.82 ERA and 2.36 WHIP over three starts before landing on the COVID-19 injured list in mid-April. He was decent enough in six relief appearances since his return to action, allowing three earned runs in 7.1 frames, but he'll now head back to the injured list. Spencer Howard was recalled in a corresponding move and will have the chance to establish himself in the rotation, which could push Moore even further from a fantasy-relevant role. |
May 2 2021 | Moore will be available out of the bullpen Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-hander spent time on the COVID-19 injured list and hasn't pitched since April 17, so Vince Velasquez will receive another turn through the starting rotation. Moore struggled in three starts before landing on the shelf with a 9.82 ERA over 11 innings. |
Apr 26 2021 | Moore was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore spent a week on the injured list, though the Phillies didn't specify whether or not he'd tested positive for the virus himself. Per Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the lefty needs a bit of time before being ready to handle a starter's workload. The Phillies have yet to announce their future rotation plans, but it's possible he follows Vince Velasquez out of the bullpen Wednesday against the Cardinals. |
Apr 20 2021 | The Phillies aren't expecting Moore to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his next scheduled turn in the rotation Friday against the Rockies at Coors Field, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Philadelphia is instead having Vince Velasquez stay prepared for a spot start Friday, and the right-hander could stick in the rotation for additional turns if Moore isn't able to clear MLB's health and safety protocol in an expedient fashion. Moore is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and 2.36 WHIP through his first three outings, so fantasy managers holding him in deeper mixed leagues or NL-only formats won't fret too much about him missing out on a start at a hitter-friendly park. |
Apr 19 2021 | Moore was placed on the injured list Monday for an unspecified reason, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although the Phillies haven't officially provided an injury designation for Moore, the southpaw is apparently sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. It's not clear whether Moore has tested positive for the virus, but he'll be eligible to return to the team as soon as he clears the league's health and safety protocols. If Moore remains sidelined through Friday, Vince Velasquez is likely to take his place as the starter for Friday's game against the Rockies. |
Apr 17 2021 | Moore (0-1) gave up six runs (five earned) on four hits and five walks while fanning three across 2.2 innings in Saturday's loss against the Cardinals. He also allowed two home runs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore was taken deep by both Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong in the third inning, and those two homers rounded out what was another disappointing start for the 31-year-old lefty. He owns a 4:3 K/BB ratio in 2021 while failing to get past the fifth inning in each of his three starts to date. Moore has also given up two home runs in each of his last two outings. |
Apr 12 2021 | Moore allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out five over five innings but did not factor in the decision during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Braves. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore was given a wake-up call from the getgo, as he surrendered two hits on his first two pitches of the night with the second hit being a two-run shot to left to put the Phillies in an early 2-0 hole. He ended up ceding five hits and three runs in the first frame and eventually allowed two more runs, including a Freddie Freeman long ball, before being taken out after the fifth inning. Moore has yet to figure things out through his first two starts, as he had trouble with walks in his first outing and home runs on Sunday. He'll take a 7.56 ERA into his next outing that is scheduled to be against the Cardinals on Friday. |
Apr 5 2021 | Moore didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 5-3 win over the Mets, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out four. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran southpaw's first start back in MLB after spending last season in Japan was right in line with his career results, as Moore threw only 47 of 74 pitches for strikes and put plenty of traffic on the bases. He was in line for the loss before the Phillies erupted for five runs in the eighth inning, but Moore will look to give his new team a more efficient outing during his next scheduled start Sunday in Atlanta. |
Mar 31 2021 | Manager Joe Girardi announced that Moore will start the Phillies' fourth game of the season Monday against the Mets, Pat Gallen of CBS 3 Philadelphia reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Moore and fellow newcomer Chase Anderson were awarded the final two spots in the rotation over Vince Velasquez, who will head to the bullpen. Philadelphia brought Moore in a one-year, $3 million deal this winter after the 31-year-old southpaw appeared to get his career back on track in Japan last season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. Though he only made 13 starts while missing time due to injury, Moore whiffed 27.8 percent of the batters he faced to go with a 2.65 ERA. He wasn't quite as dominant this spring for the Phillies, though he struck out nearly a batter per inning and submitted a tidy 1.15 WHIP. Before he made the jump to Japan, Moore's track record in the majors from 2015 through 2019 wasn't overly impressive, so he's best viewed as a streamer or back-end roster option in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues to begin the season. |
Mar 14 2021 | Moore allowed just one run on one hit Sunday against the Pirates, picking up the win while striking out three and walking none over four innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The major-league deal Moore signed in January seems to imply the Phillies view him as a rotation favorite, though he's earning a relatively low $3 million, which doesn't give him a ton of job security. The job is likely Moore's until he pitches his way out of it, and he certainly hasn't done that so far this spring, allowing just a single run on three hits and a walk in eight innings of work. He's not a particularly interesting fantasy option given his mediocre strikeout numbers and hitter-friendly home park, but in leagues deep enough where every starter with a job has value he should at least clear that bar. Spencer Howard remains an interesting prospect despite his shaky debut and could move ahead of Moore or fellow veteran Chase Anderson at some point this season, but he may open in the bullpen or minors to manage his innings. |
Jan 29 2021 | Moore signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Phillies on Friday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran lefty cruised to a 3.53 ERA over his first four big-league seasons but went overseas to join the NPB's Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in 2020 after struggling to a 5.13 ERA over his next five campaigns. Moore was limited to just 13 starts for the Japanese champions due to a calf injury, but he was quite good when available, finishing with a 2.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 27.8 percent strikeout rate. Giving Moore a big-league deal suggests the Phillies think he has a real role to play this season, and that role could be as the team's fifth starter, as Vince Velasquez doesn't provide the stiffest competition for that job. |
Jul 8 2018 | Moore allowed two hits and four walks while striking out six over 4.1 innings of relief in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Tigers. | Moore entered this one early when Cole Hamels was chased after giving up seven runs in two-thirds of an inning. Since being yanked from the starting rotation, the left-hander has pitched mostly as a long reliever. He's allowed five runs on nine hits and six walks while striking out 13 over 12.2 innings, spanning five appearances. In four of those five appearances, Moore has pitched at least two innings. |
Jun 13 2018 | Moore has been removed from the starting rotation and shifted to a bullpen role, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. | He'll no longer make his scheduled start over the weekend, though the Rangers have yet to announce his replacement in the rotation. This isn't all too surprising, as Moore struggled mightily through 12 starts this season, compiling an 8.02 ERA and 41:26 K:BB across 55 innings of work. He tossed a scoreless inning of relief in his lone appearance out of the bullpen this season, so maybe he'll fare better in a long-relief role. |
Jun 12 2018 | Manager Jeff Banister reported Tuesday that Moore may not make his next turn through the rotation, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | The Rangers are noncommittal on Moore's current spot in the starting rotation, as the veteran maintains a brutal 7.88 ERA and 2.04 WHIP on the year. If he is indeed bumped from the rotation, minor leaguers Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Yovani Gallardo appear to be realistic candidates to make a spot start in his place. |
Jun 10 2018 | Moore allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and one wak while failing to register a strikeout across three innings Sunday against the Astros. He did not factor into the decision. | Moore couldn't survive his first pitch without allowing an earned run, as George Springer drove a home run to center field on Moore's opening offering of the game. Things didn't improve much from there for him, as he allowed three more extra-base hits before being chased after three innings. This start marked the fourth time in 12 starts that Moore has failed to complete at least four innings of work and he now has a horrendous 7.88 ERA to go along with a 2.04 WHIP through 56 frames this season. |
Jun 5 2018 | Moore did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Athletics, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings. | The lefty was tagged for a pair of runs in the first inning, but he was able to recover from that point to notch just his second quality start of the year. Moore wasn't missing many bats -- it's already the sixth time this season he's struck out two or fewer -- and he yielded three extra-base hits including a home run but it was encouraging that he was able to make it through six innings for the first time since April 17. He'll take an unsightly 7.47 ERA into a start against the Astros on Sunday. |
May 31 2018 | Moore allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts through 5.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Seattle. | Moore's control got the best of him in the fourth inning, as he walked two batters, threw a wild pitch and suffered a passed ball in a three-run frame that derailed his bid at a quality start. Moore was nasty at times, as he induced 12 swinging strikes in 108 pitches, and the fact that he was able to bounce back with a scoreless fifth shows the knee injury that sent him to the disabled list briefly isn't much of a concern. Unfortunately, Moore hasn't been able to put it all together for a full start often enough in 2018, as he owns a brutal 7.85 ERA. He'll try to push that in the right direction next time out Tuesday against Oakland. |
May 30 2018 | Moore (knee) has been reinstated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Wednesday's start against Seattle, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports. | Moore is scheduled to make his 10th start of the season after returning from a short stint on the disabled list. He'll look to improve on a disappointing start to the season, as he's accrued a 7.99 ERA and 2.02 WHIP with 33 strikeouts over 41.2 innings. Austin Bibens-Dirkx has been sent down in a corresponding move. |
May 27 2018 | Moore (knee) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Mariners, Dic Humphrey of MLB.com reports. | Moore would have been ready to come off the DL as soon as Tuesday, but the Rangers elected to give him an extra day to recover from the right knee issue before slotting him back into the rotation. Though he shouldn't face any restrictions Wednesday following the brief shutdown period, Moore's spot in the rotation is likely on thin ice after he struggled mightily through his first 10 outings (nine starts) prior to hitting the DL. Over 41.2 innings this season, Moore has gone 1-5 with a 7.99 ERA and 2.02 WHIP. |
May 27 2018 | Moore (knee) threw a bullpen session Saturday, and the Rangers are waiting to see how the left-hander responds before setting their rotation for their upcoming four-game series against Seattle, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. | If Moore responds with no problems, then he could pitch Tuesday, the day he's eligible to come off the disabled, although manager Jeff Banister is considering giving Austin Bibens-Dirkx a second start so that all starters get an extra day of rest. |
May 26 2018 | Moore (knee) emerged from a throwing session Thursday with no setback and is hopeful to be activated off the disabled list to start Tuesday in Seattle, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. | Moore, who is battling soreness in his right knee, will go through another workout Saturday before manager Jeff Banister makes a decision on the left-hander. |
May 24 2018 | Moore (knee) could rejoin the Rangers' rotation Tuesday against the Mariners, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. | Moore landed on the disabled list over the weekend with right knee soreness, but it appears his stay on the shelf could be a brief one. He threw 70 pitches in a live batting practice session Thursday and could be cleared to rejoin the Rangers when first eligible on Tuesday if his knee responds positively to the session. The southpaw compiled a 7.99 ERA across 41.2 innings prior to landing on the disabled list, so expectations should be kept in check upon his return to the rotation. |
May 19 2018 | Moore allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday, striking out five and walking three in 3.2 innings. | Moore struggled in Friday's outing, needing 92 pitches (61 for strikes) to get through 3.2 innings. Across his last four starts, Moore has allowed 22 earned runs in 16.1 innings of work, ballooning his ERA to 7.99 on the year. Opponents are hitting .344 off the left-hander, with lefties actually hitting .429 with two home runs against him. Moore is scheduled to face off against the Yankees at home in his next start, but he needs to start pitching more effectively to keep his spot in the rotation. |
May 19 2018 | Moore was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right knee soreness Saturday. | Moore has an ugly 7.99 ERA through 41.2 innings so far this season, so the Rangers would love it if he could trace all his struggles back to an injury. Unfortunately, it's equally likely that the team is playing up a minor issue in order to give Moore some time out of the firing line after his disappointing start. He posted a 5.52 ERA last season for San Francisco, though, so there's little reason to believe that he'll suddenly be a capable starter after he returns from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, Ariel Jurado was called up from Double-A Frisco to take Moore's place in the rotation. |
May 17 2018 | Moore will start for the Rangers on Friday against the White Sox, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | The initial plan lined up the southpaw for a Saturday outing, but he will take the hill a day earlier as he clings to a rotation spot. Even with the strikeout-friendly Pale Hose staring him down, Moore doesn't inspire much confidence, considering he's been one of the league's worst starters on the season with a 7.82 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. |
May 15 2018 | The Rangers currently plan on Moore making his next scheduled start against the White Sox on Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | Moore (1-5) has been one of the worst starting pitchers in the league this season, with a 7.82 WHIP and 2.00 WHIP and only 28 strikeouts over 38 innings. Opposing hitters have a .349/.418/.554 slash line against the 28-year-old this season, but the Rangers seem to have limited options in term of replacement starting options, keeping Moore in the rotation for the time being. |
May 14 2018 | Manager Jeff Banister he will "continue to evaluate" Moore's spot in the rotation after the left-hander was chased after three innings in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Astros. | Moore started the game well, fanning four over the first two innings, but endured a 32-pitch, three-run third inning and was pulled by Banister after just 72 pitches. The manager said he wanted to make the change while the Rangers still had an opportunity to win, which suggests Moore has lost Banister's confidence. Moore's ERA rose to 7.82, the highest of any pitcher with at least 35 innings. If he stays in the rotation, Moore's next start is expected to be Saturday on the road against the White Sox. |
May 9 2018 | Moore will pitch on schedule Sunday against the Astros, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. | Moore's status became uncertain after he was rocked in his last two starts, upping his season ERA to 7.71. Manager Jeff Banister confirmed no changes to the rotation, so the left-hander will take the ball on schedule. Fantasy owners will need to decide if a start against the Astros' powerful lineup is worth it. |
May 8 2018 | Moore allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts through 5.2 innings in a no-decision Monday against Detroit. | It wasn't as bad as his brutal 10-run outing last start against Cleveland, but Moore just can't keep the ball in the yard. He surrendered his fifth home run of the year to Leonys Martin, the nail in Moore's coffin in the sixth inning. Moore was bailed out by the Rangers offense Monday, but with a 7.71 ERA, his leash has to be getting short. He faces a tough task his next time out, as his next turn is scheduled for Sunday against the Astros. |
May 2 2018 | Moore (1-4) allowed 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings in Wednesday's 12-4 loss to the Indians. | For the fifth time in six starts, Moore failed to reach five innings. The left-hander was around the zone, throwing strikes on 64 of his 92 pitches and first-pitch strikes to 19 of 25 batters, but he couldn't put hitters away. The Indians went 4-for-8 when the count reached 0-and-2. Maybe it was the eight days of rest between starts, but that only explains Wednesday's start. He has five other starts contributing to his 7.67 ERA. While pitchers have been removed from rotations for less, the Rangers may be stuck with him. Fellow starter Martin Perez (elbow) was placed on the disabled list, so shuffling Moore to the bullpen is easier said than done. And the organization has little in the way of depth options in the minors. For now, Moore is next scheduled to pitch Monday at home against Detroit. |
Apr 29 2018 | Moore mopped up Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning. | Moore is still a starter, but was available out of the bullpen over the weekend, as the Rangers' six-man rotation has gotten all out of whack with one starter on a five-day schedule (Cole Hamels), one starter on a six-day schedule (Mike Minor) and the other four guys adjusting to those schedules. The left-handed Moore is expected to start Wednesday on eight days rest, so Sunday's relief appearance should be seen as him getting his work in between starts. |
Apr 27 2018 | Moore is next scheduled to start Wednesday, the final game of a series against the Indians, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. | When Moore makes his next start, he'll have had eight days of rest between starts. In the meantime, he could be pressed into duty as an extra relief arm. The Rangers are trying to navigate six starters while keeping staff ace Cole Hamels on a regular five-day routine, so others, like Moore, could get an extra day or two between starts. |
Apr 24 2018 | Moore allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over five-plus innings in Monday's 9-4 loss to the Athletics. | Moore left the game with the score tied, handing it off to a bullpen that has been maxed out early in the season, averaging 3.2 innings per game. The left-hander was at 86 pitches when he was pulled, so he had more to expend, but with four right-handers coming up, manager Jeff Banister made the move. It was the fourth time in five starts that Moore has been unable to give Texas six innings. The good news is that Moore has improved over his last three starts after a disastrous beginning when he had an 11.05 ERA after two outings. He'll look to drop his ERA (5.55) even further next Monday in Cleveland, although it should be noted that the Rangers are working with a six-man rotation at this time. His next start could be moved around to accommodate keeping staff ace Cole Hamels on a five-day routine. |
Apr 17 2018 | Moore (1-3) got his first win of the season Tuesday, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out six. | Moore failed to make it past the fifth inning in any of his opening three starts, but he was much better in this one, pounding the strike zone and inducing 13 swinging strikes. Despite the solid outing, the lefty still owns a 5.59 ERA -- just about in line with last year's 5.52 mark -- so he won't be on most fantasy radars unless he strings together more performances like this one. Moore will try to keep it going Monday in a home date with the Athletics. |
Apr 17 2018 | Moore (1-3) got his first win of the season Sunday, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out six. |
Apr 11 2018 | Moore (0-3) took the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings while striking out two. | The left-hander threw 57 of 96 pitches for strikes, and Wednesday's outing was actually his longest so far on the season. Moore's 8.76 ERA and 9:7 K:BB in 12.1 innings were not what the Rangers were hoping for when they acquired him, but he'll get a chance to turn things around Tuesday on the road against the Rays. |
Apr 6 2018 | Moore (0-2) was rocked for six runs (five earned) on five hits in 3.1 innings, walking four to go along with just one strikeout in Texas' 8-5 loss to Toronto on Friday. | It was the second-straight rough start of the season for Moore, who has given up nine earned runs in just 7.1 innings to start the year. He had a 5.52 ERA in 174.1 innings for San Francisco last year and has a 4.29 mark for his eight-year career, so Moore shouldn't be in the fantasy conversation unless a drastic turn-around happens to manifest. |
Mar 31 2018 | Moore completed four innings and took the loss Saturday against the Astros, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out six. | Moore was roughed up by the Astros, something that can be said of a lot of pitchers. Despite the poor line, there are some positives to take from his performance, most notably that he struck out six batters. He relied heavily on called strikes so his strikeout total may not be sustainable going forward, but he showed enough in this start to at least warrant streaming consideration in positive matchups moving forward. There's no need to pick him up in most leagues, however, as he hasn't maintained consistent success since the 2016 season . |
Mar 28 2018 | Moore is scheduled to start the third game of the season, March 31, at home against the Astros. | Moore will be making his regular-season debut for the Rangers, who acquired the left-hander from the Giants during the offseason. He's a career 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in three career starts against Houston, although those outings occurred before the Astros' batting order became loaded with dangerous hitters. |
Mar 6 2018 | Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Monday that while he intends to use a six-man rotation this season, Moore, Cole Hamels and Doug Fister will remain on normal pitching schedules in 2018, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. | Banister didn't say so explicitly, but Martin Perez (elbow) is also set to receive his usual four days of rest between starts once he's healthy, meaning that back-end rotation candidates Mike Minor, Matt Bush and Bartolo Colon would be more affected by the six-man setup. Assuming Banister sticks to his word, Moore can generally be expected to take the hill once every five or six days, which would put him on track for 30-plus starts if he's able to avoid the disabled list in 2018. Moore was able to do that last season and submitted a 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 174.1 innings, so it's hard to imagine him providing much fantasy utility now that he's trading the pitcher-friendly AT&T Park for a hitter haven in Globe Life Park. |
Mar 5 2018 | Moore retired the first six batters faced before getting fatigued and was unable to complete a third inning, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. | Moore followed up his sterling first two innings by allowed three of the first four batters faced in the third inning to reach base. "I didn't have the fresh feel of the first two innings,'' Moore said. "Moving forward, I expect those things to clear up." As a projected member of the Rangers' rotation, we certainly hope he can clear up experiencing fatigue so quickly. Let's chalk it up to early in spring training. He'll get another three or four spring starts to ramp up to a regular-season workload. |
Mar 1 2018 | Moore did not throw a cut fastball during his two scoreless innings Wednesday against the White Sox, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. | The Rangers would like Moore to get away from throwing the cutter, a side-to-side pitch. The club feels he's been more effective when working up and down. The pitch tends to be really good or really bad, and the left-hander threw a lot of bad ones in San Francisco last season when opponents hit .322 with a .525 slugging percentage against Moore's cutter. |
Feb 28 2018 | Moore retired six of seven batters faced over two scoreless innings Wednesday against the White Sox. He allowed one hit and struck out one. | Moore is looking to bounce back from an aberrant 2017, when he lost a National League-high 15 games and posted a 5.52 ERA in 31 starts for the Giants. The Rangers traded for the left-hander, believing they'll be getting the guy that went 45-33 with a 3.91 ERA over six seasons, mostly for Tampa Bay. |
Feb 28 2018 | Moore (knee) is scheduled to start Wednesday's Cactus League game against the White Sox, Levi Weaver of The Athletic Dallas reports. | Moore experienced some soreness behind his right knee shortly after reporting to spring training, but it doesn't sound like the issue put him too far behind the rest of his fellow pitchers. After coming over in a trade from the Giants in December, Moore is set to fill one of the openings in a beleaguered Rangers rotation this season, though the lefty can't be drafted with much confidence outside of AL-only formats. Moore submitted a 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP while serving up a career-high 27 home runs in 174.1 innings last season, despite making 16 of his 31 starts at pitcher-friendly AT&T Park. |
Feb 21 2018 | Moore (knee) was able to toss a batting practice session Wednesday, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports. | Moore has been dealing with some soreness behind his right knee which kept him sidelined during the team's fielding practice this past weekend. On a positive note, he has been able to continue throwing, as he went through a bullpen earlier in the week, in addition to the batting practice session Wednesday. It doesn't seem as though there should be any real concern over Moore's status moving forward but more will be known within the next few days as Cactus League action commences. |
Feb 17 2018 | Moore is dealing with some soreness behind his right knee, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | The issue kept him from participating in fielding practice Saturday, though it doesn't sound like anything overly serious given it didn't affect his ability to throw a bullpen. Moore was also able to do some light jogging on the side. That said, it's unclear if the issue will keep him sidelined for any Cactus League action. |
Dec 15 2017 | The Giants traded Moore to the Rangers on Friday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. | The Giants are expected to receive prospects in return. The deal will be finalized pending physicals for all players involved. Moore finished the 2017 season with a 6-15 record to go along with a 5.52 ERA. It remains to be seen how the Rangers plan on using the southpaw, but he figures to compete for a rotation spot next spring. |
Nov 6 2017 | Moore's team option was exercised by the Giants on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The San Jose Mercury News reports. | After a strong finish to the 2016 season, hopes were high that Moore would be able to improve in 2017 and capitalize on having a full year to throw in the pitcher-friendly AT&T Park. However, rather than take a step forward, Moore regressed and posted a 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 32 games. He'll have a chance to rebound in the upcoming season, but could run the risk of being used as an extended reliever should his struggles persist. |
Sep 27 2017 | Moore (6-15) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, coughing up eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and three walks over only 1.1 innings. | He'll be grateful not to have to face J.D. Martinez again this year, after the slugger ripped a two-run double off Moore in the first inning and then followed it up with a grand slam in the second that chased him from the game. The lefty wraps up a disappointing campaign that mirrors the Giants' season as a whole, posting a 5.52 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 148:67 K:BB through 174.1 innings while setting a new career high in losses. |
Sep 20 2017 | Moore (6-14) shut the Rockies out for six innings Wednesday, taking home a 4-0 win. He struck out six while allowing six hits and two walks. | The lefty's three prior starts against Colorado this season -- two of which came at Coors Field -- had resulted in him giving up an incredible 19 runs and 30 hits over the course of just 12.2 innings, so this was quite the reversal of fortune. Being safely home in the friendly confines of AT&T Park might have factored in, though that didn't help him against the Dodgers his last time out. There's a lot of noise in Moore's game log and stat line, some of it seemingly positive, but the fact is that he's carrying a 5.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP while playing for a brutal Giants team, so it's hard to trust him -- especially with a start in hitter-friendly Arizona coming up next. |
Sep 14 2017 | Moore (5-14) lasted just 4.1 innings in a losing effort Wednesday, giving up four runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts in a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers. | Moore settled down after a two-run first inning, but a high pitch count and a fifth-inning home run courtesy of Cody Bellinger prevented the southpaw from finishing five frames for the seventh time this season. The 28-year-old's 5.39 ERA in 29 starts is the worst mark amongst all qualified National League pitchers. Moore's season has been a complete disaster, making it hard to trust him in his next start against the Rockies next Wednesday, even though it takes place in the friendly confines of AT&T Park. |
Sep 8 2017 | Moore (5-13) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 6.2 innings to pick up the win Friday against the White Sox | Moore had his last start skipped as the Giants rearranged their rotation due to injuries and returns from injury. The rest seemed to do him well, as he rebounded well from his last start, a putrid outing in San Diego where he allowed two homers and five earned runs. Moore has been quietly solid of late, as he now owns a 3.21 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over his last seven outings dating back to August 13. |
Sep 4 2017 | Moore's next start will be pushed back to Friday against the White Sox after he was used out of the bullpen Sunday, Paul Gackle of The Mercury News reports. | Moore tossed a pair of scoreless innings while striking out one in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. The Giants reshuffled their rotation over the weekend due to Madison Bumgarner's illness and the return of Johnny Cueto from the disabled list. The move actually benefits whatever fantasy owners are left hanging on to the disappointing southpaw, as he will face a light-hitting White Sox lineup as opposed to taking on the Rockies at Coors Field. |
Aug 30 2017 | Moore (4-13) gave up five runs on eight hits with just two strikeouts while taking the loss against the Padres on Tuesday. | Four of Moore's five runs came via the long ball, and he now owns a career-worst 1.4 HR/9 over 154 innings. The 28-year-old looked to be turning his atrocious season around with a 2.21 ERA over his previous three starts, but Tuesday's loss in a favorable matchup reminded fantasy owners that they should steer clear of the inconsistent southpaw at all costs. |
Aug 23 2017 | Moore allowed a single run on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters through six innings during Wednesday's win over Milwaukee. He didn't factor into the decision. | Moore is finding a groove on the mound and has now allowed just five runs through 20.1 innings over his past three starts. He's had a number of disastrous outings this season, and the lefty owns a crippling 5.38 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Still, his 7.9 K/9 is serviceable, so Moore can provide value in the right matchups. He projects to make his next start against the Padres at AT&T Park. |
Aug 18 2017 | Moore (4-12) allowed two runs on just two hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 7.1 innings to earn the victory Friday over the Phillies. | Moore has thrown two of his best starts of the season in consecutive outings. This marks the first time all year Moore has gone at least seven innings in consecutive starts, and he held his opponents to two runs both times. Friday marks his first win since June 20 against Atlanta, breaking a nine-start stretch in which Moore managed just a 5.51 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. |
Aug 13 2017 | Moore allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks across seven innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Nationals. He struck out nine. | Moore allowed solo home runs to Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmermann, but he was effective and otherwise kept them off the board. He needed just 91 pitches to complete seven frames, setting a new season high in strikeouts while going without a walk for the fifth time. This gem came at the right time for Moore, who had allowed nine earned runs over 11 innings during his previous two outings. He still owns a disappointing 5.71 ERA heading into his start Friday against the Phillies. |
Aug 12 2017 | Moore will remain on turn and start Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. | Chris Stratton will take the ball for Game 1 of Sunday's twin bill while Moore gets the nightcap against Cy Young candidate Max Scherzer. Moore carries a 1-4 record along with a 7.23 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP on the road into Sunday's tilt. |
Aug 9 2017 | The Giants have decided not to skip Moore's next start at Washington on Sunday after tinkering with the idea Tuesday, Henry Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle reports. | Moore spoke with Bruce Bochy during Tuesday's win over the Cubs and convinced his manager to allow him to stay in the rotation for the time being. The 28-year-old has been nothing short of terrible in his first full season in San Francisco, posting an ugly 3-12 record to go along with a 5.88 ERA in 23 starts. Moore's peripherals (7.8 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and 1.4 HR/9) aren't that far off from his career averages, and his career-worst 65.4 percent strand rate has shown that he has actually been a tad unlucky (4.69 FIP). Luck aside, only the most desperate of fantasy owners should even consider starting the shaky southpaw against the Nationals and their NL-leading .341 wOBA. |
Aug 8 2017 | Moore may have his next start skipped in order to fine tune his pitches, Andrew Baggarly of The San Jose Mercury News reports. | Moore is currently penciled in as the starter for Sunday's game against the Nationals, though manager Bruce Bochy is mulling over the idea of skipping his start in order to give the veteran lefty some time to work on his throwing mechanics. The 28-year-old currently owns a 5.88 ERA and has given up nine earned runs over his past two starts, so he could benefit from the additional time off. |
Aug 7 2017 | Moore (3-12) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven batters through six innings during Monday's loss to the Cubs. | Moore allowed at least four runs in each of his previous five outings and now sports a 5.88 ERA 1.59 WHIP and 7.8 K/9 for the campaign. He's not even performing well at AT&T Park anymore with 31 runs allowed through 37.2 innings over his past seven home starts. At this stage of the game, Moore is probably best viewed as a low-end option best left to deep fantasy settings. He projects to face the Nationals at Washington in his next start. |
Aug 3 2017 | Moore (3-11) surrendered four runs over five innings in Wednesday's loss to the A's. He struck out four while giving up six hits and three walks. | The veteran lefty has had a brutal season with few redeeming qualities, and it hasn't been getting better. He's allowed a homer in five consecutive starts, including Ryon Healy's two-run blast in this one, and his ERA and WHIP are up to 5.80 and 1.60, respectively. The occasional solid outing he churns out simply doesn't make up for the 28-year-old's struggles in the vast majority of his starts, and with a matchup with the Cubs up next, those rostering him don't have much to look forward to. |
Jul 28 2017 | Moore (3-10) went 6.1 innings against the Dodgers on Friday, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks, striking out six and receiving a no-decision. | The southpaw fared much better than his last outing against the Dodgers, in which he surrendered nine earned runs over 3.1 innings in a blowout loss, but suffered a let-down when his bullpen couldn't get him out of the seventh inning. Other than a Corey Seager home run in the first inning, Moore held the Dodger bats in check for most of the night, but walked Enrique Hernandez and allowed a double to Joc Pederson before exiting in the seventh. George Kontos promptly allowed both runners to score, hurting the overall starter's line. Although Moore has shown far more consistency over his last three starts, it's still tough to trust the 28-year-old in fantasy formats considering his 5.74 ERA and 4.66 FIP, though his 7.60 K/9 could inspire some hope. |
Jul 22 2017 | Moore (3-10) allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out seven across six innings, but received no decision Saturday against the Padres. | Moore did quite well the first time through the lineup before getting pasted for four runs in the fourth inning, but the offense gave him enough support to keep him from losing his 11th game of the campaign. Even though he's thrown in a few decent starts on occasion, his 5.82 ERA is a fair reflection of the pitcher he's been all season, which is an extremely shaky fantasy option. He'll make his next start Friday against the Dodgers. |
Jul 17 2017 | Moore (3-10) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings during Monday's loss to the Indians. | Moore pitched fairly well Monday but received no favors from his defense who committed two errors behind him and ended up sticking the 28-year-old with his 10th loss of the season. Despite his respectable performance, Moore remains a pitcher that simply cannot be relied upon in any fantasy format this season. He'll carry a 5.81 ERA into his upcoming scheduled start Saturday against the Padres. |
Jul 7 2017 | Moore (3-9) served up five runs on 12 hits and struck out just one over 3.2 innings in a loss Friday to the Marlins. | Although Moore did give up a home run to Giancarlo Stanton, he was mostly singled to death, as only two of the 12 hits he allowed went for extra bases. He threw 51 strikes out of 70 pitches, but Moore was catching too much of the fat part of the plate and paid for it. His ERA is up to 6.04 and his time in the rotation may be getting short as Johnny Cueto and Madison Bumgarner are both nearing their returns to San Francisco's pitching staff. |
Jul 1 2017 | Moore (3-8) allowed one run on four hits and six walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings, but didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Pirates. | Moore was fortunate to hold the Bucs to just a single run in a game in which he allowed 10 runners to reach base, and since the offense only provided him with one run of support, he missed out on a chance to pick up his fourth win. Although this was his second quality start over his last three outings, his 5.78 ERA makes him a risky fantasy option. He'll make his next start Friday against the Marlins. |
Jun 25 2017 | Moore gave up five earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings to the Mets on Sunday. He walked three and struck out five while taking the loss 8-2. | This was the second time in his last three starts that Moore has been bounced before the fifth inning, which happened largely thanks to Rene Rivera's pair of homers. The 28-year-old now owns a 3-8 record with an awful 6.04 ERA on the year, and he'll look to bounce back Saturday on the road in Pittsburgh. |
Jun 20 2017 | Moore (3-7) gave up three runs on seven hits over seven innings in Tuesday's win over Atlanta. He struck out six and walked one. | Not generally known for his control, Moore was on point in this one, throwing 71 of his 102 pitches for strikes. It was a much-needed improvement after the lefty got rocked for 16 earned runs in 13 innings over his prior three outings, but Moore still has ugly season numbers with a 5.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP, and it doesn't look like he's going to start rattling off gems anytime soon. He'll draw the Mets at home on Sunday. |
Jun 16 2017 | Moore allowed eight runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out seven batters through just three innings during Thursday's loss to Colorado. He didn't factor into the decision. | Considering Moore's road struggles, turning to him at Coors Field was a risky start, but at least the seven strikeouts soften the ratio blow. The lefty owns a solid 3.07 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 7.2 K/9 at AT&T Park, but Moore has been hammered on the road to the tune of a 9.24 ERA and 2.11 WHIP. At some point, his drastic home-road splits should stabilize, but it's currently a pretty convincing trend. Moore lines up to face the Braves at SunTrust Park. |
Jun 16 2017 | Moore was hammered to the tune of eight runs on 11 hits over three innings Thursday. He walked two and struck out seven in a 10-9 loss to the Rockies. | Moore continues to struggle in the month of June, surrendering 16 earned runs over 12 innings while bringing his season ERA up to an even 6.00 through 14 starts. The veteran southpaw has experienced a bit of bad luck with a .349 BABIP against coupled with a career-low 64.9 percent strand rate, but a 4.80 FIP tells us that he hasn't been doing much to help his case on the mound even if things were breaking his way. At this point, the only positive thing that can be said about Moore's season is that he has done a good job of pitching in cavernous AT&T Park (3.07 ERA at home), but his inability to sustain success on the road (9.24 ERA) greatly diminishes his fantasy value. |
Jun 9 2017 | Moore gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings to fall to 2-7 with a 5.28 ERA in Friday's loss to Minnesota. | Moore was lucky not to give up more runs as he allowed ten base runners, but he was unlucky to give up a fluky three-run double to Twins pitcher Ervin Santana. Despite Moore's ugly overall numbers, he had been pitching well at home with a 2.57 ERA before Friday. He also had regrouped after a terrible April with a 3.13 ERA and 7.4 K/9 in his previous five starts, so there's hope he can get back on track. |
Jun 5 2017 | Moore allowed five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and two walks while striking out just a single batter through four innings during Sunday's loss to Philadelphia. He didn't factor into the decision. | Moore has been hammered away from AT&T Park to the tune of a 7.94 ERA and 1.91 WHIP, and he's held a road opponent to fewer than three runs just once in seven starts. His 2.57 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 at home are strong numbers, so the talent is there. It's pretty clear that he's difficult to trust on the road at this point, though. He projects to face the Twins at AT&T in his next trip to the mound. |
May 29 2017 | Moore (2-6) allowed two runs on six hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out five over seven innings in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Nationals. | After getting blown up for nine runs in 3.1 innings in his first start of the month of May, Moore has now thrown five straight outings with three or fewer runs surrendered to drop his ERA to 4.98. The lefty is still a shaky shallow-league option because of his 7.5 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9, but as we've seen, he can be an effective matchup play in deeper leagues. |
May 25 2017 | Moore (2-5) gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings Wednesday. He walked three and struck out four in a 5-4 loss to the Cubs. | The veteran lefty has either been prone to blow ups or downright dominant this season, so it was odd seeing him pitch a game that was neither. It is tough to decipher whether Moore's 5.28 ERA and 1.53 WHIP are due for an improvement due to his inconsistent results on a year-to-year basis. Shallow league owners could probably find more consistent options on waivers at this point, but those in deeper formats have no choice but to hang tight and hope the good outweighs the bad the rest of the way. |
May 20 2017 | Moore (2-4) gave up two runs on five hits and three walks over six innings while striking out five but came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-5 win over the Cardinals. | The Giants scored all six of their runs after Moore was out of the game, so despite his strong effort he was never in line for the victory. The left-hander seems to be settling down after his rough start to the season and now has a 2.89 ERA and 17:7 K:BB over his last three outings, although his 1.45 WHIP during that stretch remains shaky. He'll face a tough test Wednesday on the road against a Cubs team that ranks fifth in the league in wOBA (.342) against southpaws. |
May 14 2017 | Moore (2-4) allowed a single run on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven hits over 7.1 innings during Saturday's win over Cincinnati. | The home-road splits have been drastic for Moore, as the lefty owns a 2.57 ERA and 1.14 WHIP at AT&T Park compared to 10.50 and 2.17 marks over his four road starts. Moore has the potential to narrow the gap going forward, but it isn't out of the question to bench him in tough road matchups, either. On the other hand, it's clear that Moore is a go-to option at home until he proves otherwise. A date with the Cardinals at Busch Stadium is on deck for Moore next week. |
May 9 2017 | Moore allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five batters during Modnay's loss to the Mets. He did not factor into the decision. | Moore has been a mess on the road this season with a 10.50 ERA and 2.17 WHIP compared to his 3.05 and 1.02 marks at AT&T Park. The lefty has never fully lived up to the hype that accompanied him moving through the minors, and he's now allowed the most earned runs in the National League. A home start against the Reds is up next for Moore. |
May 3 2017 | Moore was knocked around for nine runs on six hits and five walks over 3.1 innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. He struck out three. | After taking a step forward in his previous outing, Moore took two steps back against Los Angeles. Moore was behind in counts throughout most of the night, issuing first-pitch strikes to just 10 of 20 batters faced. With a homer allowed to Franklin Gutierrez, Moore has now served up at least one home run in each of his last five starts and seven home runs in total in 33.1 innings this season. He's in line for a road matchup against the Mets his next time out. |
Apr 28 2017 | Moore bounced back in a big way Thursday, holding the Dodgers to one run on two hits over seven strong innings. He walked three and struck out eight in an extra-inning loss. | While he didn't notch the win -- thanks to another anemic performance by the Giants' offense -- the veteran lefty returned to form after getting hit hard in his previous two starts (both against the Rockies). Moore's only two positive outings have come in the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park, resulting in a dramatic home and road split (3.05 ERA at home and 8.68 ERA on the road). Despite his Jekyll and Hyde results early on, the 27-year-old will always tantalize fantasy owners with his ability to generate strikeouts and his favorable home park. Those in shallower formats may want to consider benching him on the road in tough matchups. That being said, it would be tough to sit him in his next start against the same Dodgers he shut down Thursday, regardless of league size. Even though next Tuesday's start comes on the road, Dodger Stadium is considered more of a pitcher's park than one that favors hitters. |
Apr 23 2017 | Moore (1-3) was shelled for six runs on nine hits against the Rockies on Saturday. He walked one and struck out four in a 12-3 loss. | Moore continues to struggle early in the season, watching his ERA balloon to 5.87 through four starts after Saturday's poor showing. He's had a bit of bad luck in terms of matchups, facing the Diamondbacks and Rockies twice each, opponents that can give even the greatest pitchers in the league fits. It isn't time to hit the panic button yet, but if the veteran lefty can't capitalize on favorable matchups against the Dodgers -- who struggle against southpaws --- in his next two starts, then owners in shallower leagues can begin to explore other options. |
Apr 15 2017 | Moore (1-2) allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings to take the loss Saturday against the Rockies. | Moore struggled to keep the Rockies hitters off the base paths while not receiving a single run of support in dropping his second decision of the season. He's now failed to reach six innings in two of his three starts, though he did post a dominating effort in winning his previous start. Now that he's failed to post a sub-four ERA since 2014, he's looking like an inconsistent fantasy option. He'll have a rematch against the Rockies in his next outing on Friday. |
Apr 10 2017 | Moore (1-1) allowed a single run on just three hits while striking out five batters during Monday's 4-1 win over Arizona. | The lefty cruised through the outing and tossed just 93 pitches -- 62 strikes -- through eight innings to collect his first win of the campaign. Moore was let down by his defense in his first start (also against Arizona), as he allowed six runs -- three earned -- while striking out just three batters over 5.1 innings. It was also encouraging to see Moore issue no free passes, as his lack of control has often got him into trouble in the past. Calling pitcher-friendly AT&T Park home will provide a nice fantasy floor for the talented hurler, and Moore has the upside to turn in a bounce-back campaign in his first full season in the National League. |
Apr 5 2017 | Moore (0-1) gave up six runs -- just three earned -- on eight hits and two walks in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to Arizona. | Things were going reasonably well through four innings, as he held a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the fifth, but the lefty totally unraveled from there, although his defense certainly didn't help him out. Moore did show improvement in ERA and strikeouts after coming over to San Francisco last summer, but he was burned by erratic control, which has been an issue throughout his career. He wasn't set up for success in this one -- pitching in Arizona against that offense is no easy task -- but Moore should show better results as the season goes on, especially in the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park. |
Mar 8 2017 | Moore tossed three shutout innings Tuesday, walking two and striking out five in a win over the Dodgers. | Moore bounced back in a big way after allowing four runs in his last spring appearance. The lefty's last two outings are a perfect representation of the Jekyll and Hyde results Moore can provide as a starter. There are times when he is unhittable, and others when he can't make it out of the early innings. He is by no means a safe option, but there is value in his arm as a mid-tier pitcher with strikeout potential. |
Mar 3 2017 | Moore gave up four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two over 2.2 innings in Thursday's split-squad contest against the White Sox. | The stat line looks ugly, but a young defense behind Moore cost him several runs. Rookie outfield Steve Duggar misplayed two separate hits in center field that allowed four White Sox baserunners to advance and score without making the runs unearned. Results aside, Moore has a rotation spot locked up and will use spring training as a way to prepare for the regular season. The 27-year-old southpaw is a volatile mid-tier pitcher with high strikeout potential. |
Feb 22 2017 | Manager Bruce Bochy formed his rotation for spring training Wednesday, listing Moore as his third pitcher which is where he should land once the regular season begins, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. | Moore had an up-and-down season between Tampa Bay and San Francisco last season, finishing with a modest 4.08 ERA and a 2.5 K/BB ratio over 198.1 innings. A full season in San Francisco should help in terms of his home ballpark being favorable to pitchers and also having a better offense behind him for leagues that count wins. Moore isn't a safe pitcher by any means, but his ability to strike out batters (8.1 K/9) make him viable in most formats. |
Nov 3 2016 | The Giants will pick up the $7 million contract on Moore's contract for next season, Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball reports. | Moore had some ups and downs after being acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline, but he ended the season on a strong note and will come at a major bargain next year, so the Giants undoubtedly did not have to waste much time deciding on his option. Moore will occupy either the third or fourth spot in what will be a loaded 2017 Giants rotation. |
Oct 3 2016 | Moore (13-12) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over eight innings Sunday in a wild card-clinching win over the Dodgers. | The left-hander heads into the postseason with some momentum, giving up only two runs with a 17:2 K:BB over his final two regular season starts, and he finishes the regular season with a 4.08 ERA and 178:72 K:BB in 198.1 innings split between San Francisco and Tampa Bay. If the Giants can get by the Mets in the Wild Card Game, Moore should play a prominent role in their rotation plans for the NLDS. |
Sep 28 2016 | Moore (5-5) allowed one run over 7.2 innings and struck out 11 in a win Tuesday against the Rockies. | Moore bounced back from a horrendous start last time out against the dodgers (1 IP, 6 ER) to deliver arguably his best start of the season. He didn't walk a batter for the first time since April 17, tied a season high with 11 strikeouts, and needed just 99 pitches to get 23 outs. Moore owns a mediocre 4.48 ERA for the Giants, but this start shows he still has the enticing talent for which they acquired him. |
Sep 22 2016 | Moore was shelled Wednesday, giving up six runs over just an inning in a 9-3 loss to the Dodgers. | Moore turned in his worst performance as a Giant in a game that the team needed to desperately win. San Francisco may have been surprised by this outing, but Moore's fantasy owners are well aware of his propensity to implode on occasion. Any pitcher with ratios of 4.34 ERA, 1.23 HR/9 and 3.45 BB/9 would normally be considered waiver wire fodder, but the lefty's decent strikeout rate and favorable home ballpark keep owners coming back for more. His next start is scheduled for next Wednesday against the Rockies, but there is an outside chance that Moore could return to the mound on three days rest this Sunday due to his low pitch count Wednesday and Johnny Cueto's (groin) possible unavailability, CSN Bay Area reports. |
Sep 17 2016 | Moore evened his record at 11-11 after allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings Friday against the Cardinals. He walked three and struck out four. | Moore wasn't particularly, throwing 53 of 93 pitches for strikes, but with the Giants jumping out to a big lead Bruce Bochy didn't need to push him. Control continues to be a problem for Moore in the second half, as his walk rate has ballooned to 5.1 BB/9 since the trade deadline. He's experienced a corresponding uptick in strikeouts as well, so perhaps he's simply overthrowing the ball. He'll try to straighten things out in Wednesday's road start against the Dodgers. |
Sep 11 2016 | Moore (10-11) allowed two runs on eight hits and one walk, striking out 11 over seven innings during Sunday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks, | Coming off a disastrous outing at Coors Field, Moore rebounded with his third double-digit strikeout performance of the season. He walked only one batter and threw 78 of his 109 pitches for strikes, allowing him to pitch past the sixth inning for just the second time since joining San Francisco at the trade deadline. Moore's struggled with his command in his brief time with the Giants, seeing his walk rate rise from 2.8 BB/9 rate before the trade to 5.0 BB/9 after the trade. He'll look to replicate Sunday's pinpoint accuracy in his next start against the Cardinals at home on Friday. |
Sep 5 2016 | Moore (2-4) allowed six runs on five hits and four walks over just 2.2 innings in a loss Monday to the Rockies. | Moore had lasted at least five innings in every one of his starts dating back to May 9 against the Blue Jays. Control continues to be a huge issue for the lefty, as he walked four batters or more for the fifth time this season. Moore owns a 4.31 ERA with the Giants, and most of his struggles can be pinned to a horrid 5.7 BB/9 since he was acquired by San Francisco. |
Sep 5 2016 | Moore (2-4) was hammered to the tune of six runs over 2.2 innings against the Rockies on Monday. He walked four and only struck out one. | This was clearly Moore's worst outing with his new club, as he had managed to go at least five innings in his six previous starts since joining San Francisco. Usually it is a sound strategy to avoid starting non-ace pitchers at Coors Field, but owners may have been lured into this dud because he had been coming off of two strong outings. Things don't get easier for the lefty as his next start comes against Arizona at Chase Field, which ranks right behind Coors this season in terms of homer-friendly ballparks. |
Aug 31 2016 | Moore (9-10) pitched 5.1 innings while limiting the Diamondbacks to one run on five hits in Wednesday's win. He walked one and struck out seven. | It wasn't quite the near no-hitter from his last start, but it was yet another strong performance in a Giants uniform. Since being acquired from Tampa Bay at the beginning of the month, Moore owns a 3.16 ERA over six starts while notching 36 strikeouts over 37 innings. The left-hander has a tough task at hand Monday when he takes the hill for his next start at the hitter-friendly Coors Field in Colorado. |

Aug 26 2016 | Moore (8-10) came within one out of a no-hitter Thursday, ultimately holding the Dodgers scoreless with one hit, three walks and seven strikeouts over 8.2 frames. | A clean single to right by Corey Seager spoiled Moore's bid for his first career no-no, but this was still a spectacular outing for the lefty. However, after he threw a whopping 133 pitches -- a scary prospect for a guy with his injury history -- en route to his first win as a Giant, Moore may not be a safe fantasy play when he makes his next start Wednesday against Arizona. |
Aug 20 2016 | Moore (0-3) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday after giving up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three over five innings. | Moore continues to struggle with his new club, posting a 4.70 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through four starts. One of his biggest issues has been a lack of control, walking 17 batters in 23 innings with the Giants. Moore does have a 3.35 BB/9 on the year, and while that isn't a great mark, it is definitely better than walk rate he is posting in San Francisco. His next start against the Dodgers should be considered a risky play, but the upside in the matchup lies in Los Angeles' lefty-heavy lineup. |
Aug 16 2016 | Moore (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six innings in Monday's loss to the Pirates. | Moore induced 12 swinging strikes and tossed first-pitch strikes to 16 of 27 batters, but he was touched up for a two-run home run in the sixth inning by Gregory Polanco that sullied what was to that point a quality start. So far, Moore has had shaky control for the Giants. He has already issued 14 walks in just 18 innings, the major reason he owns a mediocre 4.50 ERA and 1.44 WHIP thus far. |
Aug 9 2016 | Moore threw six solid innings Tuesday, allowing a pair of earned runs on just three hits but five walks while striking out seven Marlins hitters. | Despite throwing his second straight quality start since being traded to the Giants, Moore was outdueled by Miami starter Tom Koehler, who threw seven shutout innings. Moore has at times seemed unhittable over the two starts, allowing just six hits over 12 innings. Yet he has struggled with his command, walking 11 over that timeframe. Moore has become accustomed to finding success despite walking hitters over the course of his career, as evidenced by his career 3.87 ERA, which is practically equalled by his 3.86 BB:9 rate. He'll look to throw more strikes Monday against the Pirates. |
Aug 4 2016 | Moore gave up two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Thursday. | While Moore wasn't particularly sharp in his Giants debut, he was able to limit the damage from the six free passes, as the Phillies were unable to barrel him up. He allowed just one hit over his first five frames Thursday, and now hasn't allowed more than five hits in any of his last four starts. Moore's stock figures to trend up as he gets more time to work with Buster Posey and pitching coach Dave Righetti. |
Aug 1 2016 | Moore will join the Giants in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. | Although Moore will be with the Giants, he's not going to make a start Tuesday. At this point in time, the team has yet to announce how they'll adjust their rotation to make room for the southpaw. Moore has improved in recent contests, as he's posted a 1.60 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over his last five starts (33.2 innings). |
Aug 1 2016 | The Rays have traded Moore to the Giants, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. | Moore will be the second left-hander in the Giants rotation, joining ace Madison Bumgarner. Moore was having a nice bounce-back campaign for the Rays, posting a 4.08 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 109 strikeouts in 130 innings. The 27-year-old and former top prospect will head to the National League and pitch half of his games in pitcher-friendly AT&T Park. He should be scooped up in all fantasy leagues in which he was dropped. |
Jul 27 2016 | Moore (7-7) allowed just one unearned run on four hits, five strikeouts and four walks over 6.2 innings in a victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. | After two strong months to begin the year, Moore blew up in June, but he's back to his early season form in July. This month, he's 3-2 with a 2.44 ERA, which is easily his best ERA of any month this season. His fantasy value will greatly depend on whether he's traded before the deadline or not, but it's a great sign he's pitching so well. If he stays in Tampa Bay, his next start will be Tuesday versus the Royals. |
Jul 26 2016 | Moore is one of several Rays players drawing strong trade interest around the majors, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The 27-year-old southpaw has put together five consecutive quality starts, and brings the allure of a solid lefty arm that is typically coveted by contending teams down the stretch and in the postseason. Moore has hit his stride over the last eight starts, lowering his ERA from 5.56 to 4.31 over that stretch. He's only generated a 4-3 record during that span, but has notably only received a combined five runs of support over the trio of defeats. |
Jul 21 2016 | Moore (6-7) held the A's to three runs on four hits over seven innings Thursday, striking out six and walking two in a 7-3 win. | That makes five consecutive quality starts for Moore, although he's just 3-2 with a not-so-impressive 20:10 K:BB in that span. That's suggestive of the lefty getting by on smoke and mirrors, and indeed, BABIP has been on his side lately. He remains a serviceable starter for head-to-head formats, especially deeper ones, but Moore's ratios don't offer much help to owners in roto leagues. |
Jul 17 2016 | Moore (5-7) surrendered two earned runs on five hits and a walk over 7.1 innings in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles. He also recorded a strikeout. | The 27-year-old southpaw posted his fourth consecutive quality start, turning in his longest outing of the season in the process. Moore has settled into a nice groove since late June, and demonstrated superior control while throwing only 93 pitches over his time on the mound. He could well be in a different uniform before month's end given the reported interest in him around the majors and if so, is building considerable momentum with his recent performances. Moore's next scheduled start is next Thursday versus the A's. |
Jul 9 2016 | Moore (5-6) allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings to take the loss Saturday at the Red Sox. | Moore gave up a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, and the Rays' offense failed to give him much support, leading to his sixth loss of the year. He's now held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts, and he has a 4.46 ERA on the season. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break. |
Jul 5 2016 | Moore (5-5) gave up two earned runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings in Monday's 4-2 victory over the Angels. | The 27-year-old southpaw followed up his seven-inning shutout of the Red Sox in his previous start with another solid outing. Moore fired 74 of his 113 pitches for strikes, while notching first-pitch strikes on 20 of 30 hitters. The effort certainly didn't do anything to diminish Moore's trade value, and he'll likely continue to be the subject of rumors for a possible move for the next several weeks. He'll look to continue his stretch of strong performances when he takes the mound for a rematch with Boston next Saturday. |
Jul 4 2016 | Moore remains unconcerned with the increasing amount of trade rumors surrounding him, freelance Rays writer Roger Mooney reports. "Obviously that's external," Moore said of the trade rumors. "There are things that are going on in our clubhouse that are on the forefront of my mind right now, and that's to get us back in a good place, which is to win more games than we're losing." | The southpaw next takes the hill Monday afternoon against the Angels, looking to even his season record at 5-5. The appearance figures to once again attract scouts from the Royals and Rangers at a minimum, two teams that have openly been considering Moore. The 26-year-old has three quality starts in his last four trips to the mound, including two shutout performances of seven innings apiece. Moore maintains he is not affected by the trade talk and isn't keeping tabs on any rumors, although friends and family are providing updates as needed. At least publicly, he maintains some skepticism that a move would even take place. "But for that other stuff, I still feel very comfortable where we are right now," he said. "I'm not really sure what's going on there, but I don't feel like anything is going to happen, to be honest with you." |
Jun 29 2016 | Moore (4-5) twirled seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six in Wednesday's 4-0 victory over the Red Sox. | The southpaw held the Red Sox hitless through five innings and escaped a key bases-loaded jam in the sixth while outpitching the Rays' former-ace David Price. Moore had been in a similar situation just five days prior to this one when he took a no-hitter into the fifth before falling apart in the sixth. This time, though, he got out of the jam en route to his fourth win of the year. The 27-year-old has tossed seven scoreless innings in two of his last four starts, and has his ERA down to its lowest point since April at 4.67. |
Jun 25 2016 | Moore (3-5) struck out six and surrendered seven hits, five earned runs and a walk over 6.2 innings in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Orioles. | Moore's performance was a mixed bag, with the five earned runs surrendered a black mark, but the 18 swinging strikes induced was certainly a positive. He gave up a solo shot to Adam Jones in the fourth, and otherwise was done in by lesser hits. In the 'What Else Is New" category, he also suffered from a general lack of run support by the Rays' offense. It was a step back overall for the 27-year-old southpaw, who'd delivered back-to-back quality starts prior to Friday's outing. He'll try to turn things around versus the Red Sox next Wednesday afternoon. |
Jun 18 2016 | Moore allowed two runs on six hits, struck out five and walked two over six innings in a no-decision versus San Francisco on Saturday. | He allowed a solo homer in the second and pushed across another run by plunking a batter with the bases loaded in the fifth. Over his last two starts, Moore has allowed just two runs on eight hits and struck out 15 in 13 innings. Moore will look to keep this momentum going in his next start Friday versus the Orioles. |
Jun 12 2016 | Moore (3-4) tossed seven scoreless innings in Sunday's win over the Astros, allowing just two singles to Jose Altuve while walking one and striking out 10. | The 10 K's tied his season high, while it was the first time in six starts that he hadn't allowed a home run. It was just Moore's fifth quality start on the year, as high pitch counts and sometimes shaky command have saddled him with a 5.05 ERA despite his talent. He'll look to build on his momentum Saturday when the Rays host the Giants. |
Jun 7 2016 | Moore (2-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in a loss Tuesday to the Diamondbacks. | Moore still can't figure out how to keep the ball in the yard. He was touched up for home runs by Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt on Tuesday to raise his total to 14 allowed on the season. Only Max Scherzer (16) has given up more home runs than Moore this season. Moore has never allowed more than 18 home runs in a season, and rediscovering that ability to keep the ball on the ground and out of the seats will be the only way for him to bring his 5.56 ERA down to earth. |
Jun 3 2016 | Moore, who was lifted Thursday after throwing 96 pitches in five innings in a 6-4 loss to the Twins, has expressed a desire to be allowed to go longer in his starts, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "It's baseball. This is not Little League with pitch counts or high school where they are trying to keep you healthy and things like that. This is the major leagues - it's time to go. This is something that we prepare for.'' | The 26-year-old made his comments to reporters following Thursday's game, during which he gave up eights hits and four runs over his five frames, and also blew leads in two separate instances. Moore went on to clarify that he wasn't officially questioning manager Kevin Cash's decision-making process, but wanted to emphasize how capable he feels he and his rotation mates are of working through some of the trouble they encounter within their starts. "I'm not questioning the moves they're making, I'm just saying we do have more in the tank,'' Moore said. "That if he does allow us to go out there for the sixth or the seventh or whatever inning it is, that we are going to be okay, that we are going to be able to compete in those moments. And to us starters it doesn't matter how many times the lineups turn over. It doesn't matter who we're playing. The mentality within our group is we're going to go out there until he takes the ball from us.'' After a first month of the season that saw Moore produce quality starts in three of his five trips to the mound, he's gotten past the fifth inning only once in six subsequent starts. He's currently sporting a bloated 5.46 ERA after his latest debacle Thursday night. |
Jun 2 2016 | Moore tossed five innings against the Twins on Thursday, but he didn't factor in the decision. He allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning four. | Moore has a 5.46 ERA this season, and while the strikeout totals remain fairly decent with 60 over 60.2 innings, he's struggled overall. Moore had a 7.36 ERA during May, and this performance doesn't exactly show an improvement over what he's done the past month. He will try to leave his struggles behind in his next start against the Diamondbacks on the road Tuesday. |
May 23 2016 | Moore utilized the extra time afforded him between starts to adjust a slight hitch in his mechanics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The Rays' southpaw used an additional bullpen session during the week to smooth out what was termed "a slight hitch" in his mechanics, namely, a brief stall in his hands when they were overhead during the wind-up process. Moore is looking forward to getting back into action Monday night against the Marlins, after an extra two days off. "It's going to be nice to get back out there," he said. "It does feel like it's been a while." Manager Kevin Cash felt the extra time between starts might benefit the 26-year-old, who is 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA over his past five starts after generating a 2.95 ERA in his first three trips to the mound this season. |
May 23 2016 | Moore allowed five runs on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Monday against the Marlins. | Supposedly Moore addressed a hitch in his delivery between his previous start and this one, but the results suggest he needs to head back to the drawing board. Moore didn't miss bats (seven swinging strikes in 88 pitches) and allowed three extra-base hits including his ninth home run allowed in as many starts. In Moore's first two full seasons with the Rays he allowed fewer than a home run per nine innings, but he has given up 17 home runs in just 109 innings (1.4 HR/9) since returning from injury in 2015. His ERA is now up to 5.47 and he won't improve that until he can figure out how to keep the ball in the yard once again. |
May 18 2016 | Moore will have his next start pushed back from Saturday to Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | With the southpaw having failed to get past the fifth inning in his last trio of starts, manager Kevin Cash opted to give his struggling pitcher extra time before taking the hill again. The official reason for the move is to split up the rotation's two lefties-- Moore and Drew Smyly-- who have pitched back-to-back since April 9. However, with Moore particularly struggling with his command, it also provides the 26-year-old with extra time on the sidelines to work on his mechanics. "I think it's the same as any pitcher that's struggling, along the lines of Chris Archer, it's the lapses in command," pitching coach Jim Hickey said. "But that's something that, I don't want to say plagued him, but it's been an issue from day one." Moore did not express dissatisfaction with the change that will now see him face off against the Marlins on Monday, and used the extra time between starts to get in an extended bullpen session Tuesday. |
May 15 2016 | Moore (1-3) lasted five innings Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three, but came away with a no-decision in a 7-6 loss to the A's. | He was actually in line for the win thanks to Sonny Gray being even more generous than he was, but Danny Valencia crushed his third home run of the day in the top of the ninth inning to send Moore home empty-handed. He's now failed to pitch more than five innings in any of his last three starts, managing just an 11:8 K:BB in 14 innings over that stretch, and the efficiency issues that plagued Moore before his Tommy John surgery have predictably returned in 2016. He'll look for a better result in his next trip to the hill Saturday in Detroit. |
May 5 2016 | Moore may be pulled from his scheduled start against the Angels this Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Manager Kevin Cash has labled his starter for Sunday's contest "to be determined", with speculation that either Matt Andriese or Erasmo Ramirez may get the call against the southpaw-mashing Angels. After notching quality starts in three of the previous four outings, Moore was touched up for eight hits (including two homers) and seven earned runs by the Dodgers on Tuesday. The change, if it does occur, would likely only involve a one-day delay in starts for the 26-year-old, as opposed to a skipped turn in the rotation. |
Apr 28 2016 | Moore (1-2) took the loss against the Orioles on Wednesday despite striking out nine and surrendering only three hits, three earned runs and two walks over seven innings. | On a night where the Rays offense was once again muted, Moore's one major mistake proved to be the difference. His fifth-inning, two-out offering to Joey Rickard was launched into the left-field stands for a three-run homer, nullifying what otherwise was a stellar effort by the southpaw. He equaled his longest stint on the mound this season, while also yielding the lowest amount of hits in a start to date. However, both the long ball and to a certain extent, his control, once again helped derail him. The 26-year-old has surrendered a homer in four of his five starts, and has also walked multiple batters in three of those games. On the plus side, he's certainly missing plenty of bats, having recorded 24 whiffs over his last 20 innings of work. He'll try to get back in the win column in his next trip to the mound on Tuesday versus the Dodgers. |
Apr 22 2016 | Moore allowed four runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out five over 6.2 innings of a 6-3 loss to the Yankees on Friday night. | Moore (1-1) battled, but the Yankees kept chipping away and finally hung a loss on the Rays' southpaw. The good news is, he continues to show good control throwing 71 of 110 pitches for strikes, and maintaining his very solid 26:5 K:BB ratio. Command has always been his nemesis, so if he continues to hit his spots, a big year could be the result. |
Apr 17 2016 | Moore (1-0) was dominant in Sunday's win over the White Sox, allowing two runs on five hits over 6.1 innings while striking out 10 without walking a batter. | His control has been particularly impressive so far in 2016, and Moore now has a 2.95 ERA and 21:3 K:BB through 18.1 innings and three starts. He'll face a tough test next Saturday, however, when the Rays are on the road against the Yankees. |
Apr 12 2016 | Moore allowed just one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings Tuesday in a no-decision against Cleveland. He struck out five. | Moore induced 12 swinging strikes in his 104 pitches as he had Cleveland off balance all night. The only major blemish was a Francisco Lindor solo home run. Moore bounced back well from a tough Opening Day start against Toronto and now has a 3.00 ERA. |
Apr 6 2016 | Moore gave up three runs, five hits and two walks in five innings with six strikeouts while taking a no-decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays. | Josh Donaldson's three-run homer in the third was the only damage done to Moore, who avoided the loss thanks to Steven Souza Jr.'s three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning. Moore struggled with his control most of the day as only 61 of his 102 pitches went for strikes -- of which, only 19 were called strikes by the umpire. The 26-year-old lefty will look to earn his first win of the season next week at home against the Indians. |
Apr 1 2016 | Moore surrendered a hit, three earned runs and three walks over three innings in Friday's 9-4 spring loss to the Pirates. He struck out three. | Moore looked somewhat shaky in his final tune-up, but remains satisfied with how the exhibition slate turned out. "I was pretty happy with the results and how we worked the process the whole time," Moore said. "I thought my in-between days -- my work days on the side -- were good. I think we have a good foundation heading into the season." The 26-year-old made it through spring training unscathed with respect to his surgically repaired elbow, and posted a 3.38 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 13.1 spring innings. |
Mar 23 2016 | Moore (1-0) threw six scoreless innings of six-hit ball in Tuesday's 4-1 exhibition victory over the Cuban National Team. He walked a batter and struck out three. | Moore continued building on what has been an outstanding spring, now having surrendered just two earned runs over 16.1 spring innings. The 26-year-old southpaw's arm appears primed for the rigors of the regular season, and fully recovered from April 2014 Tommy John surgery. Moore figures to have one more extended start, likely on Sunday, before making an abbreviated appearance prior to the conclusion of the exhibition slate. |
Mar 17 2016 | Moore surrendered five hits and an earned run over 4.2 innings in Thursday's spring outing versus the Phillies. He struck out eight. | He looked dominant in mowing through the Phillies lineup, and induced six ground balls for all of his non-strikeout outs. His only blemish was the solo homer he gave up to Ryan Howard in the fourth inning, the second long ball he's surrendered this spring. Moore now has 11 strikeouts over 10.1 exhibition frames, and has posted an impressive 1.78 ERA through three starts. |
Mar 15 2016 | Moore has been announced as the starter for the Rays' exhibition against the Cuban National Team on Mar. 22, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The southpaw has been one of the bright spots of the Rays staff in spring training, building on the momentum he generated over the final month of the 2015 season. Moore finished September with a 2-1 record that was accompanied by a sterling 2.97 ERA, and has generated an even more impressive 1.59 figure over 5.2 spring training innings. The 26-year-old's command has been sharp over his first pair of appearances, an indication that his arm could be back at full strength following his April 2014 Tommy John surgery. |
Feb 22 2016 | Manager Kevin Cash was impressed with Moore's first bullpen session of the spring, Rays Insider Steve Carney reports. | Cash did not elaborate on Moore, but Moore made a total of just 14 starts for the Rays over the last two seasons, so it's a good sign that he is ready to go as spring training begins. It's not yet clear where he will slot into the Rays' rotation to open the season, but he will be a lock for a spot as long as he is healthy. |
Sep 29 2015 | Moore pitched seven strong innings on Tuesday against the Marlins, surrendering seven hits, an earned run and a walk. He struck out three but did not factor into the decision. | It was a third straight quality start for Moore, who had posted a robust 8.42 ERA over his first eight appearances of the season after returning from Tommy John surgery. Moore has now given up only three earned runs over 20.2 innings in his last three trips to the mound, good for a sparking 1.34 ERA. He has also completely stayed away from the long ball during that span, and has lowered his ERA from an unsightly 8.04 to 5.84 during the month of September. Moore appears to be capping off 2015 with some much-needed positive momentum that he can hopefully carry over into next season. |
Sep 23 2015 | Moore will make his next start Tuesday against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore was scheduled to make his next start Sunday, but he will receive an extra day of rest between his starts. As a result, Matt Andriese will make a spot start Sunday in his place, while Moore will be pushed back to Tuesday. While it's possible Moore will make another start before the end of the season, it's also possible Tuesday will be his last go around. |
Sep 23 2015 | Moore gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.2 innings Tuesday against the Red Sox. | He settled down after allowing two runs in the first inning en route to his first win since July 12. Moore's 6.48 ERA really does not come close to telling the whole story with regard to his 2015 campaign, as there have been times when he has pitched like a mid-rotation starter. He will be almost two full years removed from Tommy John surgery on Opening Day in 2016, and will make for a high-upside mid-to-late round pick next year. Moore should make two more starts this season, with both coming against the Blue Jays, the first of which will be Sunday in Toronto. |
Sep 17 2015 | Moore turned in seven dominant innings Thursday, striking out nine Orioles while allowing no runs on two hits and zero walks, but was stuck with a no-decision. | Alex Colome came in and gave up four runs in the eighth inning to blow the game, depriving Moore of a win in what was easily his best start of the year. This was a version of Moore that we hadn't seen in a long time, so this outing qualifies as wonderful news for his fantasy owners. He next faces a Boston team that scored six runs off him Aug. 1 and eight (six earned) last Saturday -- if he can turn things around Tuesday against the Red Sox, he'll put himself squarely on the radar for next year. |
Sep 7 2015 | Moore will continue to pitch in the rotation for now, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | There were some rumblings that Moore could be replaced in the rotation after a poor start against the Yankees on Friday, however manager Kevin Cash squashed those rumors, suggesting the 26-year-old will make a least one more turn in the rotation. Originally scheduled to face the Red Sox on Friday, Chris Harper will jump ahead of him in the rotation, pushing Moore's next start to Saturday. |
Sep 5 2015 | Moore lasted just 4.2 innings Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three in a no-decision. | He cruised through four shutout innings, but after coughing up two runs in the fifth Moore received a quick hook after 79 pitches. The left-hander should remain in the rotation for the remainder of the season, but given his inefficiency and the Rays' tendency to go to their bullpen early, there are probably better plays if you're looking for wins. Moore's next start is set for Friday, at home against the Red Sox. |
Sep 2 2015 | Moore will start Saturday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore, who was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, will replace Nate Karns in the Rays' rotation. He will start for the big league club for the first time since Aug. 1, and for just the seventh time all year. He has struggled in the majors this, but he did pitch well over his final five minor league starts, posting a 3.30 ERA and striking out 43 batters over 30 innings. |
Sep 1 2015 | Moore, who was recalled by the Rays on Tuesday, could step into Nate Karns' rotation spot Friday against the Yankees, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports. | A lot of this is speculation, but Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi and Drew Smyly are all presumed safe, and with Erasmo Ramirez making his scheduled start Tuesday, it appears that Karns may be the odd man out, as the Rays have said they won't be going to a six-man rotation. Either way, Moore figures to be a high-upside option in most formats down the stretch. |
Aug 31 2015 | Moore will be called up when rosters expand Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The lefty has excelled with Triple-A Durham, and it seems like he'll get another chance to rejoin the Rays' rotation in September. After all, the team's still got him under contract for next year. |
Aug 30 2015 | Moore is poised to rejoin the rotation after his likely call-up during the September roster expansion, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore has been excellent since landing at Triple-A Durham, striking out 43 in just 30 innings. If the Rays want to give him another shot at the rotation now that he seems to have his strikeout stuff back, there's a strong chance he will improve from his 8.78 ERA stint earlier in the year. |
Aug 23 2015 | Moore struck out 16 over six innings on Saturday against the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. Only two of the outs the team recorded while he was pitching were not strikeouts. | Yea, he can strike out a few batters. Since his demotion in early August, Moore has posted a 1.01 WHIP and 7.20 K/BB. The Rays are likely to call him up when the rosters expand on September 1. |
Aug 1 2015 | The Rays announced after Saturday's 11-7 loss to the Red Sox that Moore would be demoted to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore was smacked around for nine hits and six runs while lasting just three innings in Saturday's turn, and those type of outings have been all too common since he returned from Tommy John surgery. In six starts with the Rays, Moore was gone 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA and a 17:13 K:BB ratio across 26.2 innings. It's not terribly surprising that he's struggling coming off a major arm operation, so the Rays figure to exhibit some patience with him as he looks to regain form at Triple-A. The left-hander is only 26 years old and is still viewed as a long-term cog in the big-league rotation, though he may not experience much success until 2016. |
Aug 1 2015 | Moore got roughed up Saturday, giving up six runs on nine hits and a walk over just three innings, striking out two. | He's been atrocious in six starts since making his return from Tommy John surgery, but Saturday's outing was the worst one yet. Moore now has an 8.78 ERA, and will try to turn things around in his next start Friday at home against the Mets. |
Jul 20 2015 | Moore struggled in a loss to the Phillies Monday, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings. | Things have not gone well for the lefty since his activation off the disabled list. Moore has completed five innings just once in four starts and now owns an unsightly 7.23 ERA. He'll try to get on track this weekend against the Orioles. |
Jul 12 2015 | Moore earned his first win on the year, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings of work during a 4-3 victory over the Astros on Sunday. | The left-hander struggled at times on the mound, giving up a run in the first inning and a homer to Jose Altuve in the fourth before being pulled after five innings and 88 pitches. It was the first time Moore made it through five since returning from Tommy John surgery. In just 14 innings, the 26-year-old has posted a 7.07 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. |
Jul 7 2015 | Moore gave up four runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Royals. | He was unable to get ahead of hitters on a regular basis Tuesday, throwing 12 first-pitch strikes to the 24 batters he faced. While Moore threw 50 of his 85 pitches for strikes, he generated just six swinging strikes in the outing. The Rays have Moore on track to start Sunday at home against Houston in the team's final game prior to the All-Star break. |
Jul 3 2015 | Moore struggled in his season debut Thursday against Cleveland, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks in just 4.2 innings. He struck out four in the no-decision. | On a day when his interstate rival Jose Fernandez came back from Tommy John looking dominant, Moore's return from the same surgery didn't look nearly as good. However, the 26-year-old lefty has great stuff and shouldn't be dismissed in fantas circles. Moore pitched well on his rehab assignment and should settle in as the year goes on; owners may have to cut him some slack in the early going, though, considering that he was able to make just two starts last season. He'll draw the Royals next week. |
Jul 1 2015 | Moore has been reinstated from the disabled list and will start Thursday, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. | Moore had made five rehab appearances and pasted a 24:8 KK:BB over 21.1 innings. He may not get too many innings as he eases back into his role, but his potential for strikeouts could help his value. |
Jun 30 2015 | Moore (elbow) will start Thursday against Cleveland, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | Monday's announcement simply confirmed previous expectations that Moore's rehab assignment was complete. In five starts between High-A Charlotte and Triple-A Durham, Moore posted a 24:8 K:BB over 21.1 innings during his rehab assignment. The Rays will likely monitor his workload closely from start to start, but Moore's strikeout potential makes him an intriguing lottery ticket in situations where he's currently available on the waiver wire. |
Jun 28 2015 | Moore (elbow) is still on track to rejoin the Rays rotation at some point this week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Though manager Kevin Cash was unwilling to confirm that Moore would be back on the mound Thursday against the Indians for his season debut, it seems clear at this point that the lefty's rehab assignment has come to an end. He covered five innings and threw 96 pitches during his fifth minor-league outing Saturday with Triple-A Durham, with his fastball clocking in the 90-to-91 mph range. With the Rays demoting Matt Andriese to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, the team has ostensibly opened a spot for Moore, but it remains to be seen what exact date the Rays have in mind for him to take the hill. Both Moore and Jake Odorizzi, who is returning from a strained oblique, are on the same pitching schedule, though Odorizzi looks to be a week behind. It's possible that Moore could have his first turn moved back to Friday so his schedule doesn't overlap with Odorizzi once both players are back on the Tampa Bay roster. |
Jun 27 2015 | Moore (elbow) had his rehab start rained out and will pitch Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader instead, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Topkin speculates Moore would return Thursday if the rehab start goes without a hitch, which is a reasonable expectation at this point. Expect Moore to try to pitch a full start with a higher pitch count. When he does come back, there are several members of the rotation that could possibly be demoted, like Alex Colome and Matt Andriese. |
Jun 27 2015 | Manager Kevin Cash indicated that Moore (elbow) may not start Thursday for the Rays, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. | Earlier reports indicated Moore would probably be slated to rejoin the rotation Thursday if the rehab start Saturday went well, but things must have changed. It's unclear whether Cash feels Moore won't be ready to rejoin the rotation, or if it's related to his scheduled Friday start being moved to Saturday because of rain, but his return date still appears up in the air at this point. |
Jun 26 2015 | Moore (elbow) is slated to throw 90 pitches in his rehab outing at Triple-A Durham on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The fact that Moore is being stretched out to 90 pitches is a good sign that he's very close to being activated from the disabled list. In fact, Moore's outing Friday is expected to be his last rehab appearance if everything goes well. There should be more clarification on his status following Friday's start. |
Jun 23 2015 | Moore (elbow) will make another rehab start Friday at Triple-A Durham, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. | After throwing a successful bullpen session Tuesday morning, Moore has been given the all clear to complete another rehab outing, which is expected to be his final appearance before returning to the Rays. Moore gave up three runs on seven hits (two homers) and a walk and struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings in his first rehab start with Durham on Sunday. |
Jun 23 2015 | Moore (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday at Tropicana Field and will have his options discussed after, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The way Moore feels and looks could be important in determining if he needs one or two more rehab starts, so definitely check out how it goes. Moore seemed to have his first four rehab starts go off without a hitch, but the Rays have still pushed a possible extra sixth start. The way the season has gone for their rotation's health, you can't blame them. |
Jun 21 2015 | Moore (elbow) struck out seven batters and allowed three runs over 5.1 innings in Sunday's rehab start for Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore allowed two long balls during the outing, but more important, he made it through 92 pitches without incident. He'll likely only need one or two more rehab starts, putting him on track for a return before the All-Star break. |
Jun 20 2015 | Moore (elbow) will be stretched out to 90 pitches Sunday in his fourth rehab start and first at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | If Moore is going to do five rehab starts as Topkin reports, he should be back by the All-Star break. The focus now is on hoping for no setbacks and looking for indications that Moore's velocity is back and can hold for the remainder of the season. If he can reach near his old speed, the starter-strapped Rays will be thankful. |
Jun 18 2015 | Moore (elbow) is likely to make at least two more minor league starts after throwing a bullpen session Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | As the timeframe of Moore's return becomes more specific, the risk of a setback shrinks and he becomes more valuable as a mid-season addition (if possible). If he's still somehow a free agent in your league, he's probably worth a pickup given how high his ceiling could be. |
Jun 17 2015 | Moore (elbow) will make his next rehab appearance Sunday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore pitched on Tuesday after his previously scheduled appearance on Monday was rained out. Mooney also said that Moore will likely make another appearance before getting called back up to the Rays later this month. |
Jun 15 2015 | Moore's (elbow) rehab start at High-A Charlotte has been pushed back to Tuesday. | Monday's game has been rained out, so Moore will take the hill Tuesday as he nears the end of his rehab assignment. The southpaw is expected to throw around 75 pitches, and he continues to be on pace to return to the big league club by the end of the month. |
Jun 11 2015 | Moore will make a rehab start Monday at High-A Charlotte, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore is expected to make one more rehab appearance beyond Monday's start, and that will likely come next weekend. Assuming he doesn't suffer a setback, Moore is on track to return to the Rays before the end of the month. |
Jun 10 2015 | Moore (elbow) will make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore will make his next rehab start Monday with an extra day of rest, and then pitch again on normal rest five days later. Those would be Moore's third and fourth rehab starts, so if he can avoid any bumps in the road over the next couple weeks, he could return to the big club before June comes to a close. |
Jun 9 2015 | Moore (elbow) tossed four shutout innings Tuesday for High-A Charlotte, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out four. | He threw 64 pitches (41 strikes) in this rehab outing, which was in line with what was expected heading into the start. Moore should continue to climb the ladder, possibly going to Double-A or Triple-A next. Continue to monitor his pitch counts in these outings, as he will likely be activated when he gets to around the 90-pitch threshold. |
Jun 7 2015 | Moore (elbow) will make another rehab start Tuesday for High-A Charlotte, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | Expect Moore to increase his pitch count Tuesday after covering 2.1 innings in his first rehab start with Charlotte last week. Moore is eventually expected to move his rehab to Triple-A Durham, but likely not until he draws closer to the 90-pitch threshold. |
Jun 6 2015 | Moore threw a bullpen session where "everything was good" according to manager Kevin Cash and could get an extra day of rest before his second rehab start, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The extra day of rest shouldn't be too significant, as Moore is still easing his way back to the mound at a major league level. If he does get the rest, he'll be pitching Tuesday and should again be on a low pitch limit. |
Jun 3 2015 | Moore (elbow) tossed 2.1 innings in a rehab start with High-A Charlotte on Wednesday. He threw 52 pitches and averaged 89-91 mph on his fastball during the outing, according to Josh Vitale of the Charlotte Sun. | Moore accomplished what he wanted to in his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery, reaching the 50-pitch mark and avoiding any sort of setback. He will throw several more times in the minors before the Rays consider activating him, but with a rehab assignment underway, he is on pace to rejoin the big club later this month or early in July. |
Jun 1 2015 | Moore (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment at High-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | After making it through a bullpen session without issue over the weekend, Moore will begin his rehab Wednesday with a limit of three innings or 50 pitches. The hope is that he'll be ready to rejoin the Tampa Bay rotation later this month. |
May 31 2015 | Moore (elbow) is expected to make his next rehab start either Wednesday or Thursday at extended spring training or High-A Charlotte, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore threw three innings at extended spring training last Thursday and completed a bullpen session over the weekend without incident, so he'll presumably see an increased pitch count in his outing this week. The lefty is projected to rejoin the Rays' rotation at some point in June. |
May 29 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw 46 pitches in three innings of an extended spring training game Thursday and figures to start a rehab assignment soon, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. | Moore is likely to make a few appearances wherever he's assigned for rehab, each start progressively longer, and then return to the top of the Rays rotation. With Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly out, Moore will be one of Tampa Bay's top starters along with Chris Archer. |
May 27 2015 | Moore (elbow) will make a second extended spring training start and then expects to begin a rehab assignment, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. | At this point, it's looking good that Moore will return by his initially selected mid-June date. The only thing that could hold that back is a major setback, which would be surprising given how smoothly his recovery has gone. When he returns, one of Nate Karns, Alex Colome, or Erasmo Ramirez will be bumped out of the rotation and into the bullpen or the minors. |
May 25 2015 | Moore (elbow) is expected to throw a three-inning session in extended spring training later this week, per manager Kevin Cash, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports. | Moore continues to progress in his recovery, though he remains without a timetable. The expectation is that he'll likely make one or two more extended spring training appearances before embarking on a rehab assignment. |
May 23 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw 36 pitches in two innings of an extended spring training game, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore's line (two runs, five hits, three extra-base hits) wasn't ideal, but the more important part is that he gets his feel for pitching back, which could take a while. Extended spring training games are his final step before a rehab assignment, which could begin next week. |
May 20 2015 | Moore (elbow) completed a successful bullpen session Wednesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore continues to progress in his rehab, and the next step will likely be an extended spring training game over the weekend. The Rays have yet to provide a timetable for Moore's return, but if he does not suffer any setbacks, he could be back sometime in June. |
May 18 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw 31 pitches to eight batters in a simulated game Monday, and the decision will be made on his next move after he throws a bullpen session Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | If all goes well in his bullpen session Wednesday, he'll either pitch in an extended spring training game or another simulated game before heading out on a rehab assignment. The news is encouraging, as it appears he's moving towards rejoining the rotation, but there's no exact date at this point. However, if all goes according to plan, a June return seems possible. |
May 12 2015 | Moore (elbow) will have two more throwing sessions before he begins a rehab assignment, 620 WDAE's Steve Carney reports. | Given that he's coming back from Tommy John surgery, Moore could approach the 30-day maximum for his rehab assignment. He figures to join the Rays at some point in June, as the assignment will likely commence in mid-to-late May. |
May 8 2015 | Moore (elbow) will start a rehab assignment after two or three more batting practices or simulated games, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | With Alex Cobb's return for the season in serious doubt, the Rays will be in desperate need for Moore as a reinforcement if they're still competing for the AL East or a wild card spot. Tommy John surgery might have an extremely long recovery time, but it also has a high success rate so Moore could be strong when he comes back. |
May 8 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw his second live batting practice session Friday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | It went well, according to Moore, and the lefty will now look ahead to another live session in five days. The third live outing may be Moore's final hurdle before beginning a rehab assignment, though the team could always play it safe and keep him in a controlled environment for a couple more turns. Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Moore figures to spend most of all of the maximum 30 days while on his rehab assignment. |
May 3 2015 | Moore "felt really good" after throwing to hitters Sunday and was throwing around 89-92 MPH, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. | Moore's fastball velocity before he was injured was 91.2 MPH in two 2014 starts and 92.3 MPH in 27 2013 starts. 89-92 is about what to expect at this stage, but he could still add more as he moves further into his rehab. Moore also seemed to throw his full arsenal save the slider, according to Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune. |
May 2 2015 | Moore will throw to hitters Sunday and is now targeting a mid-June return, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The Rays have used eight different starters in 2015 despite not yet starting Moore or Alex Cobb, so Moore's return could bring back some serious stability for them. However, his control should be a concern during the first few weeks back, given he wasn't exactly the most walk-averse pitcher before the injury (career 4.3 BB/9). |
Apr 3 2015 | Moore (elbow) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Friday, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE AM reports. | Moore's placement on the disabled list comes as an ancillary move to add catcher Bobby Wilson to the 40-man roster. He's remains months away from a return from Tommy John surgery, but will need to be re-added to the roster upon his return. |
Mar 27 2015 | Moore (elbow) will resume throwing bullpen sessions Friday, Steve Carney of WDAE 620 AM reports. | The Rays had been resting Moore for the previous two weeks in an effort to aid his recovery from Tommy John surgery last April. Moore is slated to steadily increase the intensity of his throwing sessions over the next several weeks before receiving clearance to face hitters. The Rays appear to be earmarking his return to the rotation at some point in June. |
Mar 12 2015 | Moore (elbow) will take a two-week break from throwing, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore is progressing well in his recovery from Tommy John Surgery, and the break is a scheduled part of his rehab. Assuming everything continues to move along as expected, Moore will eye a "Juneish" return. |
Feb 7 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw from the pitching rubber Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April, the Rays' official site reports. | Previously, he had been limited to throwing from half-way up the mound. Friday's session included 15 pitches, and Moore reported that he felt good afterward. The expectation is that Moore will throw two bullpen sessions per week with the hope of adding volume to his workouts in the coming weeks. Moore didn't provide an updated timetable for his expected return, but previous estimates have suggested that he'll be back in the rotation in June. |
Jan 29 2015 | Moore (elbow) threw off a mound Tuesday and was pleased with how it went, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Tuesday's mound session marked Moore's first since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. It represents a big step forward in the lefty's recovery and it appears he's on track to return at some point in June, though the team figures to proceed with caution in the months ahead. Moore went 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 as a 24-year-old in 2013. |
Jan 15 2015 | Moore (elbow) is scheduled to begin throwing off a mound during the last week of January, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore's recovery from Tommy John surgery appears to be coming along smoothly, as the young southpaw has been throwing on flat ground for the past three months and is expected to be on a mound at some point in the last week of January. With this progress, Moore is confident that he will be back in the Rays' rotation in June. |
Dec 9 2014 | Moore's (elbow) recovery from Tommy John surgery has him on schedule to return to the Rays' rotation in June, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | After just two starts, Moore's 2014 campaign came to an abrupt end in early April due to a torn UCL. However, the young lefty's recovery has gone well so far, as he has been on a throwing program since September and appears on track for an early-summer return to the Rays' rotation. The 25-year-old All-Star owns a 29-17 record with a solid 3.49 ERA and 8.8 K/9 over 61 career starts in the majors. |
Nov 3 2014 | Moore (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore needed to be added to the 40-man roster Monday as the 60-day DL dissolves five days after the World Series ends. He participated in his first throwing session in early September since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. His timetable is still unclear, but he should be able to pitch at some point next season. The Rays will need to make two moves to clear spots on the 40-man for Moore and Jerry Sands, who was also removed from the 60-day DL. |
Sep 9 2014 | Moore (elbow), on Tuesday, completed his first throwing session since recovering from Tommy John surgery, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore made 25 throws from about 45 feet Tuesday. It's not clear how he felt afterward, but he was reportedly smiling during the session, so it's safe to assume things went well. It's not clear when he will be ready to pitch next season, but consider his recovery on track. |
Sep 3 2014 | Moore (elbow) will play catch Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, Steve Carney of 620wdae.com reports. | Moore has been taking part in sock throws for the last two weeks without any issues, so he'll advance to the next stage of the lengthy rehab process. There's a very slim possibility that Moore will be back for the start of the 2015 regular season, but a return around the All-Star break is probably a more realistic outcome for the left-hander. |
May 27 2014 | Moore (elbow) has been transferred to the 60-day DL. | Since he's going through the process of rehabbing Tommy John surgery performed in late April, Moore's 40-man roster spot was expendable. |
Apr 22 2014 | Moore had successful Tommy John surgery performed in his left elbow Tuesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | It's official: Moore will now embark upon the typical 12-to-18 month recovery period that accompanies the procedure. He'll be hard-pressed to achieve active status by the first pitch of 2015, but it's not out of the question that he'll make his presence felt at some point in the first half of next season. |
Apr 14 2014 | Moore (elbow) was able to throw Monday, but no decision regarding Tommy John surgery has yet to be made, Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The season-ending procedure was assumed to be a certainty due to the slight tear in his UCL, but perhaps he prefers to learn if rest and rehab improves the situation. Despite no determination as of Monday, one may come down in the near future. |
Apr 14 2014 | Moore (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, ruling him out for the remainder of 2014, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore was hoping to avoid the surgery, but this has seemed inevitable for the last few days, and he apparently made a final decision after feeling discomfort in his elbow while throwing Monday afternoon. The talented lefty can be ruled out for 2014, and he'll face an uphill battle to be ready by Opening Day 2015. Moore's surgery will be performed by Dr. James Andrews on April 22. |
Apr 14 2014 | Moore (elbow) is scheduled to attempt throwing Monday or Tuesday, the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore was previously considered to be destined for Tommy John surgery, but it doesn't appear that him and the Rays are ready to make that announcement just yet. His injury does involve a small UCL tear, which almost certainly requires the procedure, but on rare occasions can be dealt with by strengthening the arm, avoiding surgery. Moore is now set to play catch over the coming days, and how his arm responds will provide the best insight on whether he will continue with a strengthening program, or schedule a date to go under the knife. |
Apr 11 2014 | Moore (elbow) remains in limbo as the Rays await a comparison of his latest MRI to a previous one, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Adding another wrinkle to the situation is that Moore has been reportedly feeling better in recent days. Previous reports suggested that Moore was on his way to Tommy John surgery, but there appears to be a chance that those rumblings were premature. He is expected to play catch in 3-5 days and see how his elbow feels then. |
Apr 8 2014 | Moore (upper body) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | After Moore was removed from Monday's start, initial reports stated that his left elbow was sore, but discomfort in the region had diminished by the time he woke up Tuesday. Despite having full range of motion in his left arm, the nature of the ailment, as well as the recovery timetable, are unknown. The Rays now have an opening in the rotation Sunday in Cincinnati, but in the interim, Jeff Beliveau will be called up to act as a lefty specialist out of the pen. |
Apr 8 2014 | Moore's elbow injury involves a UCL tear, which often ends up requiring Tommy John surgery, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports. | If the tear is small enough, Moore could rehab the injury and pitch through it, but he did schedule a visit with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday after the team's MRI was inconclusive. Andrews, of course, is the most famous surgeon who performs TJ surgery, so a visit to his office is worrisome. At the very least, it sounds like Moore will be out for a while, but he could also miss the rest of the season if he needs to go under the knife. Erik Bedard and Cesar Ramos are the leading candidates to replace him in the rotation temporarily, but Jeremy Hellickson (targeting a June return) as well as some prospects in the minor leagues like Enny Romero could be longer term solutions if our worst fears are confirmed with Moore. |
Apr 8 2014 | Moore's MRI was inconclusive Tuesday and he will pay a visit to Dr. James Andrews for a more thorough evaluation, as the team says is customary when a pitcher leaves the game with an arm injury, the Rays' official Twitter feed reports. | He was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday after being removed from Monday's start with what was deemed a sore left elbow. The fact that the MRI was inconclusive is not necessarily a reason to panic, but it's always worrisome when a pitcher pays Dr. Andrews a visit. We know he'll be out at least 15 days, and will update the situation when more information becomes available. |
Apr 8 2014 | Moore underwent an MRI on his left elbow Tuesday morning but "didn't learn [anything] one way or the other," Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | Although Moore relayed that he still has full range of motion in his left arm, it's unclear if he'll require a stay on the DL, after leaving his start Monday due to a sore elbow. Once the results of Tuesday's evaluation are revealed, we'll have a better indication of his immediate status, but because elbow injuries of any variety are always a worry, the Rays may opt to have him rest up anyway. |
Apr 7 2014 | Moore was removed from Monday's start against the Royals in the fifth inning with an upper-body injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | While the exact nature of Moore's injury is unclear, the lefty hurler was noticeably grimacing after throwing a pitch to Norichika Aoki. After visiting with trainer, Moore was removed from the game, finishing with a line of one run allowed on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. Expect the team to provide more information on his injury after the game. |
Apr 7 2014 | Speaking after Monday's game, Rays manager Joe Maddon said that Moore (elbow) did not feel a pop in his elbow and did not want to leave Monday's game, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Maddon's comment comes as music to the ears of nervous fantasy owners, after Moore left Monday's game in the fifth inning due to a sore left elbow. It's encouraging that Moore wanted to stay in the game, as he'd likely have some idea if he were dealing with a serious injury. All the positivity aside, the situation is still worth keeping a close eye on, as Moore will undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Things are looking up, but he's not yet out of the woods. |
Apr 7 2014 | Moore left Monday's game due to soreness in his left elbow, and although he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, the Rays said that there is no reason "at this time" to believe Moore's injury is serious, Rooger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | While the team doesn't sound pessimistic, the terms "elbow soreness" and "MRI" in close proximity are not what fantasy owners want to see. Moore left Monday's start in the fifth inning with an initially undisclosed injury, and the Rays should know more tomorrow, after the MRI is completed. Elbow soreness is far from an ideal diagnosis, but it's entirely possible that the lefty is just dealing with something minor. |
Apr 2 2014 | Moore struck out four and walked three while allowing two runs on six hits over 5.2 innings in a loss to the Jays on Wednesday night. | While the outing wasn't great, it wasn't a bad showing from Moore either. The three walks stand out as problematic, but inconsistent control is hardly unusual from the young left-hander, while the 8.2-shutout inning performance from Mark Buehrle on the other side put Moore on the wrong side of the ledger. Moore has a pair of road starts next week, including a trip to Kansas City on Monday before a start against the Reds at Great American Ballpark on April 13. |
Mar 30 2014 | Moore (face) felt fine after returning to the mound for his final spring start against the Tigers on Friday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. "There was a couple times I felt myself flinch," Moore said. "But I would imagine that would be kind of natural. I'm sure it'll get better as we go." | Moore allowed three runs on seven hits while throwing 72 pitches (46 strikes) in the outing. As the Rays' rotation lines up, he'll take the ball for the third game of the opening series against the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field on Wednesday. |
Mar 24 2014 | Moore's jaw X-rays came back negative on Monday, and he is expected to make his next spring start, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore took a comebacker to the mouth on Sunday, and although the scene wasn't pretty, it looks like it won't cause him to miss any time. Moore was able to partially reflect the ball with his glove before it hit him, which likely prevented anything more serious than the lip laceration that he suffered. He'll continue with his normal routine, which included a light workout on Monday, after which he only felt "mild soreness." |
Mar 23 2014 | Moore was carted from the dugout to the clubhouse after being hit in the jaw by a comebacker on Sunday. | Moore pitched four hitless innings and gave up four walks before being hit in the jaw, and while he walked off the field under his own power, the team had him carted to the clubhouse. A later report from Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times indicated he is showing no signs of a concussion but does have a laceration on his lip. |

Mar 23 2014 | Moore will undergo X-rays on Monday to see if his jaw or the roots of his teeth are fractured, but appears to have avoided a serious injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore was the victim of comebacker Sunday and received stitched to close a laceration on his lip, but was not showing any concussion symptoms. It's great news, and he reportedly doesn't see any reason why this should prevent him from being ready for the start of the year, but the Rays will have him undergo further testing to gauge the true severity of his injuries. |
Feb 17 2014 | After working out in the bay area last year, Moore returned to his old workout regimen in Tempe, AZ this offseason in an effort to regain his velocity, the Tampa Bay Times reports. "For me, it was a no-brainer to get back out there," Moore said. "The season before I probably topped out at 97 or 98 (mph), last year I probably topped out at 95-96. It's not necessarily top-end speed, it's where I'm sitting at and the effort. I feel like (last year), my effort level was just too high. I didn't come in at that above-level place where pitching is going to feel easy, and that's where I think I feel right now." | Moore, who worked out in Tempe from 2010-2012, was disappointed with how his arm felt following last season's offseason workouts in California. He then saw his average fastball velocity drop by more than two miles per hour from 2012, though he still managed to post a 17-4 record, 3.29 ERA, and 8.6 K/9. The sparkling record may be hard to replicate, but Moore could conceivably improve his other numbers if he's able to get his velocity back to pre-2013 levels. |
Oct 3 2013 | Moore is expected to start Friday's Game 1 against the Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | After Moore went unused in Wednesday's Wild Card win over the Indians, he'll kick off the ALDS for the Rays against their division rivals. He's been exceptional in his two starts against the Red Sox this season, going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 15 innings. |
Oct 2 2013 | Moore could pitch 1-3 innings in Wednesday's wild card game against the Indians, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports. | With the season on the line, it sounds like Tampa will pull out all the stops Wednesday, and worry about a potential starter for Game 1 of the ALDS later. The Rays reportedly like the way Moore matches up against the Tribe's left-handed and switch-hitting bats. |
Sep 30 2013 | Moore earned his 17th win of the regular season Sunday against the Blue Jays after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. | Moore was able to throw effectively enough to keep the Rays in the game, though he did walk three. He finishes the regular season with a record of 17-4 with a 3.24 ERA. He manages to make it work with the walks and he will be relied on to continue his success if the Rays are able to qualify and advance in the postseason. |
Sep 24 2013 | Moore was effectively wild Tuesday, tossing five shutout innings on three hits and six walks with four strikeouts against the Yankees. | This was his fourth game of the season with six walks, which demonstrates both just how wild he can be, and how much room he has to grow as a pitcher, despite flashing ace-level stuff semi-regularly. Moore is currently slated to pitch the Rays' final game of the regular season Sunday at Toronto. |
Sep 19 2013 | Moore was hit hard in a loss Thursday to Rangers, lasting only four innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits. | It was the first loss for Moore since June 14. Over that span of 10 starts, he went 7-0 with a 1.90 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 61.2 innings. The young southpaw allowed three home runs Thursday to the Rangers for the first time in his career. He will look to bounce back in his next start Tuesday against the Yankees on the road. |
Sep 9 2013 | Moore made his second straight solid start since returning from the disabled list Sunday against the Mariners. He threw 6.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits. | The only run Moore allowed came on a solo home run to Kendrys Morales in the second inning. He added three strikeouts and had three walks in the outing as well, but took the no-decision. Dating back to June 20, Moore has made nine starts without a loss, posting a 7-0 record and a 1.99 ERA over that stretch. His next start is slated for Saturday against the Twins. |
Sep 4 2013 | Moore made a triumphant return from the disabled list Tuesday against the Angels, allowing an unearned run and four hits in 5.1 innings of Tampa Bay's win. | After missing the entire month of August, Moore picked up right where he left off, winning his seventh straight decision while scattering four hits and striking out six. The four walks can be written off as rustiness after his extended layoff. |
Sep 3 2013 | Moore (elbow) has been activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday's game against the Angels. | Moore will replace Roberto Hernandez, who, along with Jeremy Hellickson, is a candidate to start Wednesday's game. Moore missed a little more than a month of action, and gave up four runs over four innings in his lone rehab appearance. He owns a 13-3 record, 3.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 115:56 K:BB ratio through 21 starts (121.1 innings) this season. There were no setbacks reported throughout Moore's rehab process. |
Aug 27 2013 | Moore (elbow) will make a rehab start at Triple-A Durham on Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore completed a simulated game over the weekend and remains on pace to be activated when he's eligible on September 3. He'll likely replace Roberto Hernandez in the Rays' rotation. |
Aug 25 2013 | Moore (elbow) is set to make a rehab start Thursday before rejoining the rotation next Tuesday against the Angels, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | After completing a simulated game without incident, Moore will head out to one of the Rays' minor league affiliates to complete the final step of his rehab process. If all goes well Thursday, he'll be activated on Sept. 3 and will more than likely replace Roberto Hernandez in the rotation. |
Aug 24 2013 | Moore's (elbow) 49-pitch simulated game went without a hitch Saturday, but he's unlikely to return to the Rays' rotation until a four-game set at the Angels beginning September 2, the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore appears as if he has a rehab assignment in his future, which may mean that the Rays desire he get one start under his belt to appease any lingering concerns with his left elbow. Nevertheless, after lengthy bullpen sessions on back-to-back days earlier this week, his stamina is likely not a question at the moment. |
Aug 21 2013 | Moore (elbow) threw another successful bullpen session Wednesday for the second consecutive day, this one spanning 69 pitches, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | With Moore looking good on back-to-back days, manager Joe Maddon said the young hurler would next throw a simulated game Saturday. Maddon indicated Moore might need another simulated game or rehab start beyond that before returning to the rotation. His return could potentially happen next weekend if all continues to go well. |
Aug 20 2013 | Moore's (elbow) threw Tuesday, which went well, and will toss a bullpen session Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Furthermore, he relayed that he's made "very significant" progress over the past few days. | During Tuesday's session, Moore was able to throw a changeup off flat ground without pain, which was "big," in his mind, the Tampa Tribune reports. At the moment, there is some belief that he'll be able to return to the mound during next week's three-game set with the Angels, pending how he emerges from Wednesday's bullpen session and Saturday's potential simulated game. |
Aug 19 2013 | Moore (elbow) was encouraged after playing catch Monday and may fit in a bullpen session Wednesday, with a potential simulated game Saturday not out of the picture, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | If the preceding plan goes through without a hitch, expect Moore to take the mound during the Ray's three-game set with the Angels, which starts next Tuesday. He'll be making his first appearance in month, as he has been recovering from a sore left elbow in the interim. |
Aug 19 2013 | Rays manager Joe Maddon said Monday that Moore (elbow) is more likely to return during the team's West Coast road trip which begins Aug. 30, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | While Moore said he was eyeing a return at home against the Angels early next week, Maddon indicated the left-hander will likely not be activated until the team is out west. There's been talk that Moore may be able to fit in a simulated game this weekend, but Maddon said Moore may need a couple of simulated games in order to get his arm strength where it needs to be. |
Aug 19 2013 | Moore (elbow) was encouraged after playing catch Monday and may fit in a bullpen session Wednesday with a potential simulated game Saturday not out of the picture, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | If the preceding plan goes through without a hitch, expect Moore to take the mound during the Rays' three-game set with the Angels which starts next Tuesday. He seems poised to make his first appearance in a month, as he has been recovering from a sore left elbow in the interim. |
Aug 18 2013 | Moore (elbow) made 55 throws from 75 feet Sunday, and said afterward that it went great, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | It's certainly a positive sign for Moore, who came out of a bullpen session Wednesday with some discomfort. He said the elbow felt exactly how it's supposed to feel Sunday, and while it's uncertain when the left-hander will be able to return to elevated ground, the team is hoping Moore will be able to start by next weekend. |
Aug 16 2013 | The Rays are hoping Moore (elbow) can start by next weekend, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore experienced some discomfort Wednesday, primarily while throwing his changeup, the team decided to give the left-hander some additional rest. He'll play catch Sunday before being re-evaluated, but the Rays are hoping the issue will not delay Moore's return for long. |
Aug 14 2013 | Moore (elbow) will not pitch Saturday against the Blue Jays, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. | Instead, Moore will throw a bit Sunday before being re-evaluated. The team is saying Moore did not suffer any sort of setback, but rather they're just opting to take a cautious approach. Moore just returned to elevated ground Sunday. |
Aug 11 2013 | Moore (elbow) completed a bullpen session Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pitching coach Jim Hickey described the session as "very good, very encouraging." The Rays haven't said what's next for the left-hander, but they will likely outline a plan for Moore in the coming days. |
Aug 9 2013 | Moore (elbow) said he felt good while playing catch from 100 feet Friday, and he's now set to throw off a mound Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Everything has gone smoothly for Moore on flat ground, so he'll return to the hill for a bullpen session Sunday. It's still uncertain whether or not Moore will need a rehab start before returning to the Rays. |
Aug 9 2013 | Moore (elbow) will play catch Friday, and if that goes well, he'll throw a bullpen session over the weekend, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore has been able to increase his throwing program throughout the week, and he's hoping to take the next step this weekend. His elbow does not have any structural damage, so it's simply a matter of maintaining strength while waiting for the soreness to subside. |
Aug 7 2013 | Moore (elbow) played catch from 90 feet Wednesday and felt fine, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore will play catch again Friday and could throw off a mound as early as Sunday if he continues to report no issues while throwing. The Rays haven't determined yet if he will need a rehab start before returning to the rotation. |
Aug 6 2013 | Moore (elbow) is hoping to throw a bullpen session this weekend, the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore played catch Tuesday and plans to do so again Wednesday. Following the bullpen, the next step will be to consider a rehab start. |
Aug 4 2013 | Moore (elbow) played catch from 60 feet Sunday and "it went well," the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Moore has just begun throwing, but apparently pitched without significant discomfort Sunday. With the first step made, he still expects to return to the team in mid-August. He still has multiple steps left before returning to the Rays' rotation, but he appears on track at this point. |
Jul 31 2013 | Moore was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a sore left elbow, the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore was knocked around for five runs on eight hits, including two home runs, in his last start Sunday. In addition, an elbow concern is never one to be trifled with, so his status should be watched closely during his upcoming period of rest. If a spot start is required, the likely candidate to take Moore's place in the rotation is Jake Odorizzi. |
Jul 31 2013 | An MRI on Moore's injured elbow showed no structural damage, the Tampa Tribune reports. | The X-rays confirm that Moore isn't dealing with any sort of elbow injury that would typically require a lengthy absence or even worse, Tommy John surgery. The Rays will likely hope to have Moore back from the disabled list in the minimum amount of the time, though any return date would be governed by how he performs once he resumes throwing. |
Jul 28 2013 | Moore gave up five runs on eight hits, including two homers, while getting a no-decision Sunday against the Yankees. He struck out three while walking none. | The day started roughly for Moore - he gave up a leadoff homer to Derek Jeter among the three runs allowed in the first inning. His next start comes at home against the Giants next weekend. |
Jul 22 2013 | Moore was excellent in a win Monday against the Red Sox as he pitched a complete game shutout. He only allowed two hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts. | Moore has really turned it on of late as he has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts. Although he didn't record many strikeouts Monday, he does have 112 strikeouts in 116.1 innings this season. |
Jul 11 2013 | Moore (13-3) struck out 10 batters over 7.1 innings Thursday against the Twins, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. | He had a real gem going, but tired in the eighth, putting two men on base before being removed from the game. With the way Moore's struggled with his control at times this year (4.61 BB/9, including quite a few really poor games), it's good to see that he's walked just seven batters in 20.2 innings (3.04 BB/9) spanning his last three outings. Even with the control problems that have plagued him, though, Moore has still won 13 games and holds a very respectable 3.44 ERA, stats good enough that he was added to the American League's All-Star roster on Thursday. |
Jul 6 2013 | Moore threw 6.1 scoreless innings against the White Sox on Saturday to earn his 12th win of the season. | He held the White Sox to five hits in this one, only one of which went for extra bases. This was his second straight scoreless start, and he will try for his third straight win when he faces the Twins on Thursday. |
Jul 1 2013 | Moore picked up his 11th win of the season in Monday's blowout over the Astros. He finished with a line of seven shutout innings, two hits, three walks, and nine strikeouts. | Moore took advantage of a lackluster Astros lineup that could only muster two singles off of him Monday. He has now struck out a total of 20 batters over his last two starts; unfortunately, he has also walked nine batters over that span. You take the good with the bad when dealing with the talented 24-year-old, but the overall results are usually worth the turmoil. His next start comes against the struggling White Sox on Saturday. |
Jun 25 2013 | Moore gave up four hits and six walks Tuesday, but managed to strand all but one base-runner in six innings while striking out 11 to beat Toronto for his 10th win of the season. | On many levels this was a fine start by Moore, but he still matched a career high with six walks, which is not conducive to going deep into games (he needed 120 pitches Tuesday), or going for long stretches of starts without a couple stinkers, which he recently experienced before he put together this current two-start winning streak. He's very close to being a true ace, and one of the best pitchers in the game, but the walks are something he needs to cut down on. |
Jun 21 2013 | Moore moved to 9-3 on the season with a win against the Yankees on Thursday after throwing 6.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits and three walks. | Moore made significant progress in his start on Thursday after three straight rough outings on the mound. He actually saw his ERA rise slightly to 4.13 but he broke a three game losing streak in which he was shelled in each instance. He only logged four strikeouts in the outing on the road. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Blue Jays. |
Jun 15 2013 | Moore gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings against the Royals on Friday. | Moore labored through yet another poor outing, and struggled with his command for most of the night. He threw 100 pitches (59 strikes) before being pulled with one out in the sixth inning and has now allowed a total of 19 runs over his last three starts (12.1 innings) and has given up 26 hits and 11 walks with just 11 strikeouts over that span. He'll look to end this three-game losing streak when he faces the Red Sox next week. He held Boston to three runs over six innings with eight strikeouts when he faced them earlier in the season. |
Jun 10 2013 | Moore suffered through perhaps the worst start of his career Sunday, yielding nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and one walk, while tallying six strikeouts across five innings, as Tampa Bay was handled by Baltimore. | Without the use of a long ball, the Orioles recorded at least two runs in each of the first three innings, while Adam Jones' solo homer in the fourth completed the scoring against Moore. Since a rain delay May 31 held him to just one inning pitched, Moore has been out of sorts, allowing 14 earned runs on 19 hits and seven walks over the last two games (seven innings). While the rose has wilted a bit, he has a friendly start on the horizon Friday versus Kansas City, who scored four runs over 7.1 innings on him in his sole career meeting. |
Jun 4 2013 | Moore took his first loss of the season Tuesday in grand fashion, getting pummeled for six earned runs on seven hits and six walks in just two innings with one strikeout against the Tigers. | He was pitching on three days' rest after throwing just one inning in his last start because of rain. Unscientifically, it seems like opposing aces blow up in Detroit more often than any other destination in the American League, and Moore fell victim to the Tigers' deadly offense on Tuesday. Shockingly, Moore has already walked six batters previously in a game this season, on Apr. 10 at Texas. He also allowed four walks in back-to-back starts in early-May, one coming in Coors Field, as he naturally has a tendency to nibble when he's on the road in a hitter's park against a potent offense. Still, he's having an amazing season and should bounce back, despite throwing 86 pitches, most of which were of a high-stress nature, in his two frames Tuesday. He'll face another strong offensive bunch Sunday against the Orioles, but at least he'll be pitching at home. |
Jun 2 2013 | Moore will start Tuesday against the Tigers, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | A rain delay ended Moore's start Friday after just one inning, so he should be fresh for Tuesday's tilt against Detroit. That outing will come in place of Alex Cobb (finger), but it seems the team just wants to give Cobb an extra day since he's slated to go Wednesday. |
Jun 1 2013 | Moore may take the mound Tuesday at Detroit, after he was held to one inning in Friday's nod due to a rain delay, the Tampa Tribune reports. | Moore, who tossed just 11 pitches in the abbreviated outing, could take Alex Cobb's place in the rotation. Cobb himself had his Friday start delayed due to a fingernail issue on his pitching hand, who could still be ailing him Tuesday. In any case, the situation in the Rays' rotation is fluid and subject to change in the coming days. |
May 31 2013 | Moore pitched just one inning against the Indians on Friday night, allowing no base runners while striking out one before being removed following an extended rain delay. | He threw just 11 pitches, but the Rays decided it was best to end his night after the rain delay. With such a short outing in this one, Tampa Bay could opt to move his next scheduled start up, and that could impact his starts for next week. Stay tuned for any announcement regarding a potential shuffling of their rotation. |
May 30 2013 | Moore will have his next start pushed back to Friday against the Indians, the Tampa Bay Times reports. | This rotation re-shuffling has nothing to do with Moore but rather to accommodate Alex Cobb needing to miss a start with a cut on his finger. The Rays are going with prospect Alex Colome and Thursday against the Marlins and preferred Moore to start against a hot-hitting Indians team. |
May 25 2013 | Moore held the Yankees to one run on five hits over six innings Saturday, but he did not factor into the decision. | Moore remains without a loss on the season, but he only struck out two of the 24 batters he faced. May has been a less kind month for Moore's strikeout numbers -- he struck out three or fewer in four of his five starts this month. |
May 20 2013 | Moore allowed just one run over seven innings Sunday against the Orioles to improve to 8-0 on the season. | Moore has been great all year, and Sunday might have been his best performance, given the opponent and that he allowed just one walk in the game. |
May 14 2013 | Moore gave up three earned runs on three hits and two walks, but was able to pick up the win, while striking out eight over six innings Tuesday against the Red Sox. | Moore has truly arrived as an ace this year, as he is tied for the league lead in wins (7-0). He got into trouble early in the game, but was able to throw up some zeros the rest of the way. His 2.14 ERA heading into Tuesday's contest seems about right, given how dominating he's looked most of the time, but the advanced stats, especially his 4.46 FIP, suggest that there's been some luck involved. Still, there are few starting pitchers on the same level as Moore, especially in a keeper format. |
May 8 2013 | Moore picked up his sixth win of the season, pitching five innings of two-run ball while striking out two against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. | Moore pitched well enough to pick up the win, but it wasn't a strong outing by any means. He needed 104 pitches to get through five innings and he walked more batters than he struck out for the third time this season. Control issues continue to plague the young hurler as his BB/9 sits right under five on the year. He has the stuff to limit the damage when he puts opposing hitters on base, but his 4.22 xFIP indicate that there is a regression in store. His next start comes at home against the Red Sox next Tuesday. |
May 4 2013 | Moore was left with a no decision after the Rays came back late to win this one, but endured the worst outing of his season after giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts over five innings against the Rockies on Friday. | Welcome to Coors Field, Mr. Moore. Your table is right over here. After allowing two home runs in the first two innings, Moore put the Rays in an early three-run deficit and struggled to keep the Rockies off the bases here in his first ever appearance at the launching pad in Colorado. Still, the outing only lifted his ERA to a 1.95 mark and he'll be more than just fine for his next outing against the Blue Jays. |
Apr 27 2013 | Moore threw six strong innings against the White Sox on Saturday, holding them to one run on three hits to improve to 5-0 on the season. | He struck out nine for the second straight start, including five straight at one point. It looks like Moore is taking the "next step" thus far this season, as he has posted a sub-2.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB through five starts. |
Apr 17 2013 | Moore allowed two runs over 6.2 innings and was the winning pitcher Wednesday against the Orioles. | He gave up five hits while walking three and striking out seven. Although 11 walks over three starts is an alarming amount Moore has been able to prevent the walks from coming back to hurt him in games. Moore is now 3-0 on the season to go along with an ERA of 1.00 and 20 strikeouts. |
Apr 10 2013 | Moore struck out five and walked six while giving up one hit over 5.1 shutout innings to earn his second win of the season Wednesday against the Rangers. | It was an effectively wild outing for Moore, who threw 54 of his 106 pitches for strikes Wednesday afternoon. Unseasonably cold temperatures made Arlington a pitcher-friendly environment Wednesday, while Moore extended his scoreless innings streak to 11.1 to begin the season. Look for his next start to come Monday against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. |
Apr 5 2013 | Moore pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight against the Indians on Friday. | This was the perfect way for Moore to open the season after struggling through most of the spring with his command. Things seemed to click towards the end, but given the fact that he opened last year winless with a 4.68 ERA through four April starts, there was concern as to how things would go in the early part of this season. This start alleviates those concerns as he looked incredibly sharp, limiting the Tribe to just two meaningless hits by Michael Bourn and exited after six having thrown 100 pitches. He'll look to build off this success next week when he takes on the Rangers in hitter-friendly Arlington. |
Mar 30 2013 | Moore pitched four scoreless innings allowing only one hit while walking one and striking out five in Saturday's exhibition finale against the Tigers. | Moore showed great improvement in his final start of the spring, needing only 54 pitches to work through the outing and 37 of those were strikes. The young lefty will line up in the fourth spot of the Rays' rotation and is scheduled to make his regular season debut on Friday against the Indians. Moore is a high-volume strikeout pitcher and if he can keep the walks down, could be in for a big season. |
Mar 26 2013 | Moore pitched 4.2 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking five hitters in Monday's exhibition win against the Pirates. | Moore struggled with his command which has been a problem for much of the spring. He is in no danger of losing his spot in the rotation but he will need to cut down on the walks in the regular season. He has a 4.67 ERA with a 2.16 SO/BB rate in 17.1 innings pitched this spring. |
Feb 28 2013 | Moore struggled in his first appearance of spring training on Thursday, allowing two earned runs and three hits while walking one and striking out one over 1.1 innings. | Moore was recorded throwing his fastball in the low-90s which is lower than his average fastball velocity around 94 in 2012. It's still early in spring training, so Moore has plenty of time to round into regular-season form. |
Sep 29 2012 | Moore earned his 11th win Saturday by holding the White Sox to one hit and two walks over 5.1 innings. | The Rays limited Moore to 77 pitches with Chris Archer available to work multiple innings Saturday. It was the second relatively short start for Moore, who threw only 50 pitches in his previous start. It's possible the Rays want to limit the workload for the 23-year-old Moore, who is a significant long-term investment. He likely wouldn't appear again this season unless the Rays reach the playoffs. |
Sep 25 2012 | Moore will have his next start moved back one day to Saturday, when he'll face the White Sox in Chicago, the Associated Press reports. | Consequently, Tampa Bay will push Jeremy Hellickson up to Friday. Manager Joe Maddon is making the change in order to set up the Rays if the team remains in contention for a playoff spot. |
Sep 22 2012 | Moore allowed two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out two, and lasted just 2.2 innings in an 11-5 win over Toronto on Saturday night. | He threw just 50 pitches (30 for strikes) in the abbreviated start, but he was clearly not in command so manager Joe Maddon lifted him early. It appears Moore is wearing down at the end of the season, and with the Rays in a contested playoff race, he may not get the luxury of extra rest, or a long leash when he does take the mound. His next start is scheduled to come in Chicago against the White Sox. |
Sep 16 2012 | Moore was atrocious Sunday, giving up five runs on three hits and four walks over three innings, as the Rays fell 6-4 to the Yankees. | The first two frames went smooth enough as Moore struck out four while facing eight total batters. However, his third and final inning was quite eventful. He walked three, allowed two RBI-singles and a three-run blast, threw a wild pitch, and tossed in a throwing error for good measure. He'll take the mound Friday against the Blue Jays, who kicked off Moore's current four-start losing streak on August 30 with two earned runs in six innings. |
Sep 11 2012 | Moore lasted just four innings Tuesday, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four, as Tampa Bay was stung by Baltimore, 9-2. | Moore racked up 94 pitches, hence the early call to the showers. Before his last two starts -- six earned runs across 10.1 innings -- he had tossed five consecutive quality outings. He'll certainly aim for that success in his next nod Sunday at the Yankees, against whom he has a 4.73 ERA and 1.575 WHIP in 13.1 innings this season. |
Sep 5 2012 | Moore gave up six runs (four earned) over 6.1 innings against the Yankees on Wednesday, and took his ninth loss of the season. | Moore did manage to strike out nine batters, so there was still plenty of fantasy value to be had in what essentially amounts to his worst start since July 7. While his numbers for the season won't end up looking spectacular thanks to a slow start, Moore's performance since the end of May will make him a very hot commodity during fantasy drafts next year. |
Aug 30 2012 | Moore took the tough-luck loss Thursday, allowing two runs and six hits over six innings. He issued three walks and struck out seven. | Moore allowed a two-run double in the first inning, but settled down nicely after that. Moore has been pitching well in general as of late; he hasn't given up more than three runs in an outing since July 7, a span of nine starts. |
Aug 24 2012 | Moore allowed three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out seven over 6.1 innings, but was left with a no-decision against Oakland on Friday night. | His command is coming around, as he threw 64 of 98 pitches for strikes, and continued his stretch of strong performances since the All-Star break. He'll take a solid 3.60 ERA into his next start on the road in Toronto. |
Aug 15 2012 | Moore spun a gem on Tuesday allowing just one run on six hits and striking out nine batters over seven innings of work against the Mariners. | Moore wasn't able to get the win due to some poor late-inning defense and a rare blown save by Tampa closer Fernando Rodney. Moore has been on a roll as of late, going 3-0 over his last four starts and giving up just two earned runs over that span. He will try and keep this hot streak going against the red-hot Angels on Sunday. |
Aug 3 2012 | Moore tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing six hits and three walks, while striking out six in a 2-0 win over Baltimore on Friday night. | He still struggles a bit with his command at times (he needed 106 pitches to get the 5.1 innings in this one), but he has allowed just four runs combined in his last four starts, spanning 24.2 innings, and his ERA has now dropped to 3.84 on the year. He'll look to keep it going against Toronto in a home start next time out. |
Jul 28 2012 | Moore tossed 6.1 scoreless innings Saturday against the Angels and was the winning pitcher. | He gave up four hits while walking two and striking out six. Moore has been impressive over his last three starts, allowing just five earned runs over 19.1 innings of work while recording 16 strikeouts. Saturday's win improves his record to 7-7 to go along with a season ERA of 4.01 and 112 strikeouts. |
Jul 22 2012 | Moore lost a duel Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks over eight frames, during Tampa Bay's 2-1 defeat versus Seattle. | Moore also punched out seven -- his highest total since June 15 -- and yielded zero free passes for the first time in 19 nods this season. In July, he's been a bit up-and-down, with a 2-2 record, 4.38 ERA, 1.419 WHIP, and 16:13 K:BB ratio in 24.2 innings. However, Moore will look to build upon Sunday's outing in his next slated start Saturday against the Angels in Los Angeles. |
Jul 17 2012 | Moore was decent Tuesday, throwing five innings of two-run ball in Tampa Bay's 4-2 triumph over Cleveland. | Moore, who moved to 6-6 in 2012, yielded three hits and five walks while striking out three. He hasn't served up a long ball in five of his last six starts. However, aside from a 3-1 record during that run, Moore has little to show for his efforts: a 4.00 ERA, 1.472 WHIP, and 28:22 K:BB ratio across 36 innings. His next slated start comes Sunday against light-hitting Seattle. |
Jul 7 2012 | Moore lasted just 4.2 innings Saturday, surrendering five runs and five hits. He matched a season high with five walks and struck out just three. | Moore has had a little trouble missing bats recently with just three Ks in each of his last two starts. Even still, he's averaging nearly a strikeout per inning (96 Ks in 99.2 innings), and obviously has the pedigree to improve upon his current ratios (4.42 ERA and 1.45 WHIP). |
Jun 27 2012 | Moore gave up four runs on 10 hits over 7.1 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Wednesday. | Although the season numbers are still nothing to write home about, Moore has been showing signs of turning things around at times during his last six starts, but he'll face a difficult matchup with a home start against the Yankees on Monday next time out. |
Jun 15 2012 | Moore shut down the Marlins on Friday, striking out eight over seven innings of one-hit ball. | Since starting the season 1-5, Moore has now won three straight outings. Friday was Moore's first shutout and his best outing of the season. He'll try to keep rolling Thursday in Washington. |
Jun 9 2012 | Moore allowed four runs on five hits over six innings against the Marlins on Saturday, but he still earned his third win of the year. | The DH-less Rays provided Moore with a seven-run cushion by the third inning, so the four Moore allowed in the sixth did not have much affect on the outcome. The home run allowed was his 11th of the season, which is a bit concerning, but he also K'd an impressive nine Saturday. |
Jun 3 2012 | Moore picked up his second win of the season Sunday over Baltimore, giving up just two runs (one earned) on seven hits. | Moore walked three and struck out four, and we still haven't seen the dominant pitcher some expected coming into the season. Still, he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in five straight starts and all but two on the season now, so there's definitely reason to be excited for the youngster. |
May 28 2012 | Moore's strong performance went for naught in a 2-1 loss to the White Sox on Monday, as the Rays were unable to create much momentum offensively in spite of Moore allowing only two runs over seven innings while striking out ten. | Moore was overshadowed by Chris Sale's 15 strikeouts in what amounted to an enjoyable pitching matchup between two of the game's more heralded young hurlers. Moore showed improved control on Monday in allowing only one walk, and should be able to begin improving his win total if he can limit his free passes in future outings. |
May 22 2012 | Moore took a no-decision Tuesday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks in 4.2 innings. | Control, particularly with runners on base, continues to be an issue with Moore. Still, he should have had the win -- Sean Rodriguez airmailed a throw with two outs in the fifth, and he would have been out of the inning. Instead, at over 100 pitches, he was lifted for Burke Badenhop, who finished the inning. Moore still showed excellent stuff, striking out six Blue Jays. |
May 17 2012 | Moore took the loss Thursday, but he posted a quality start with six innings of three-run ball. He walked just one with a season-high eight strikeouts. | Even though Moore took the loss, it was still one of his best starts in weeks. On the downside, Moore surrendered two more homers Thursday, and has given up eight long balls already this season. |
May 12 2012 | Moore only lasted 4.1 innings against the Orioles on Saturday and took the loss, moving to 1-3 on the year. He allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks. | He needed 101 pitches to record 13 outs, and his cumulative K:BB ratio sits at a not-so-pretty 34:22. Manager Joe Maddon affirmed after the game the team would keep Moore at the major league level for now. |
May 6 2012 | Moore struggled mightily against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing eight runs on seven hits and three walks in just 4.2 innings. | Moore continues to be hit around, struggling with control and home runs. He owns a 5.8 BB/9 and a 1.6 HR/9 on the season so far, both awful numbers. He's too talented to give up on even in redraft leagues, but obviously the early struggles are disconcerting for someone who made such a big impact last season down the stretch. |
May 1 2012 | Moore earned his first win Tuesday against Seattle, striking out seven and allowing one run over five innings. | Moore did allow seven hits and a walk, leading to a 101-pitch count that chased him after five. Still, he did a good job of scattering the hits and showed how unhittable he can be when runners were on base -- the Mariners were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. |
Apr 26 2012 | Moore struck out six and walked two while giving up two earned runs on five hits over 5.2 innings Thursday. | He did not factor in the decision, but kept the Angels' offense relatively quiet outside of Mark Trumbo. Moore remains winless through four starts this season, but his outing Thursday may have been his best thus far despite being his shortest. Moore lines up for a home start against the Mariners on Tuesday for his next turn in the rotation. |
Apr 20 2012 | Moore allowed three runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out just two over 6.1 innings against Minnesota on Friday night. | He again struggled with his command, throwing just 60-of-106 pitches for strikes. His ERA is now a disappointing 5.12 and the strikeouts have not been there, however he has something of a history of slow starts, and is likely to lock in and fulfill some of his considerable promise before the season gets too old. |
Apr 16 2012 | Moore struck out five and walked four while giving up six runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings against the Red Sox on Sunday. | He took the loss, and may have been removed from the outing sooner if the Rays' bullpen wasn't in such dire need of collective rest. According to the Tampa Tribune, pitching coach Jim Hickey ruled out of the possibility of Moore tipping his pitches during Sunday's start, and it appears as though Moore and the Rays have simply run into the Red Sox's lineup at a time where they're very locked in as a group at the plate. Moore gets a nice matchup for the sake of trying to bounce back when the Rays host the Twins for his next scheduled start Friday. |
Mar 18 2012 | Outside of any more injury setbacks, Moore will start the season in the rotation, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was thought to be the case although GM Andrew Friedman made comments in the offseason that Moore wouldn't necessarily open the season in the rotation. The final spot in the Rays rotation will be either Wade Davis or Jeff Neimann. |
Mar 15 2012 | Moore (abdominal strain) threw 1.1 scoreless innings in his spring debut with three strikeouts and one walk. "Physically perfect, just like how I was supposed to feel. Everything was good," Moore told the Tampa Tribune. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although he's behind the other starters, it looks like he could be ready by Opening Day. |
Mar 1 2012 | Moore (abdominal strain) played catch without incident Thursday and is expected to resume throwing from a mound next week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays will continue to ease him along as he gets over the minor ailment, but it sounds like things are progressing as planned so far. |
Feb 29 2012 | Moore (abdominal strain) played catch at 75 feet Wednesday and felt good afterward, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be evaluated again Thursday, but the Rays haven't laid out a set timetable for Moore to resume full workouts. Given that they currently have six starters at their disposal and Moore's importance to the rotation, he will likely be brought along slowly in the coming weeks. |
Feb 28 2012 | Moore (abdomen) will proceed with caution in resuming his spring training throwing regime, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays will take their time to make sure Moore is fully healed. Moore is considered the number three prospect coming out of the minors this year across the league and the Rays' top prospect. They will ensure he is healthy before moving forward. It is early enough in spring training that it is not expected that this setback will affect his preparation for the season. |
Feb 27 2012 | Moore "probably won't" throw batting practice Monday as a result of minor lower abdominal discomfort, the Tampa Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For now the move is being called "precautionary" and should only set Moore back a couple of days. He's expected to return to the mound Wednesday and for now this does not sound like anything for his owners to get too worried about. |
Feb 21 2012 | Moore will not be held to an innings count for the upcoming season, the Tampa Tribune reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After throwing 164.1 innings in 2011, the Rays are fine with increasing Moore's workload 20 percent which would push him to 200 innings. "From an innings standpoint it's definitely something we're mindful of, whether he starts the year in Triple A or the big leagues, but for the most part he's been built up in such a way that it's not the same as others in the past," (VP Andrew) Friedman said. While it's worth noting he mentions that Moore could start the season at Triple-A, it's highly unlikely given the contract he signed in the offseason and his immediate success with the Rays last season. Bump Moore up ever so slightly with the news that the Rays shouldn't hold back their top pitching prospect. |
Dec 9 2011 | Moore has signed a five-year deal with the Rays worth $14 million, Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal includes another three years of club options that could push the deal to be worth $39.5 million. While it's a gamble on such a young pitcher with limited experience in the majors, they made a similar deal with Evan Longoria back in 2008 and that seems to be working out just fine for them. The deal could turn out to be a huge bargain for the club and Moore's pedigree suggests he'll be a future ace. That time will likely come sooner rather than later. This deal should also squash any idea that Moore would be sent to Triple-A Durham to start the season in order to delay his arbitration clock. The Rays currently don't have a spot open in the rotation for him but this news suggests they should be active in the trade market, likely dealing either Wade Davis or Jeff Niemann. Short of something unforeseeable happening, look for Moore to have a spot at the back end of the Rays' rotation come Opening Day. |
