Mar 18 2024Harrison was released by the Reds on Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was told he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster and exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract rather than reporting to Triple-A Louisville. The veteran utility player will now look to latch on elsewhere, although he might have a difficult time finding a major-league deal coming off an age-35 campaign in which he posted a .554 OPS over 114 plate appearances with the Phillies.
Mar 11 2024Harrison is projected for a roster spot, per the latest roster projection from C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 80-game suspension handed out to Noelvi Marte opens up a roster spot that figures to come down to Harrison, Mike Ford or Tony Kemp. Rosecrans makes the point that of those three, Harrison provides the most versatility. He started games at four different defensive positions for the Phillies in 2023. Harrison is 3-for-16 with a double and an RBI in seven games this spring.
Feb 5 2024Harrison's agency announced Monday that he agreed to a minor-league contract with the Reds that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cincinnati doesn't represent the best fit for Harrison from a playing-time perspective, given how flush the Reds are with young infield talent. However, the fact that Harrison is from Cincinnati surely factored into his decision to join his hometown ball club. The 36-year-old slashed just .204/.263/.291 in 40 games with the Phillies in 2023 and also spent a brief time at Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers organization. Per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, Harrison will make $1.5 million if in the majors and his deal has a March 21 opt-out.
Aug 25 2023Harrison was released by the Rangers on Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Heyman says Harrison exercised an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract with the Rangers after it became apparent that no promotion to the big leagues was on the horizon. The veteran utility player lasted only six games with Triple-A Round Rock, going 6-for-27 with one home run. Harrison has just a .659 OPS in 159 games at the major-league level since the beginning of last season.
Aug 15 2023Harrison signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was released by the Phillies earlier this month following an unsuccessful 41-game stint which saw him slash a lowly .204/.263/.291. The 36-year-old utility player provides infield depth for a Rangers team that will be without Josh Jung (thumb) for a while, but it won't be ideal if he winds up having to play a significant role with the big club.
Aug 2 2023The Phillies released Harrison on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will head to free agency after no team was willing to put in a waiver claim on the 36-year-old utility man, who was designated for assignment Tuesday. Prior to being removed from Philadelphia's 40-man roster, Harrison saw action in 41 games and hit .204/.263/.291 over 114 plate appearances. Harrison might have to settle for a minor-league deal if he wants to keep his career going.
Aug 1 2023Harrison was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move frees up a 40-man roster spot for starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was acquired from the Tigers ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. Harrison, 36, had slashed just .204/.263/.291 through 40 games (114 plate appearances) this season with Philadelphia.
Jul 21 2023Harrison (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He required just a minimum stay on the IL with a bruised right wrist and didn't need a rehab assignment. Harrison will resume a utility role in Philadelphia.
Jul 20 2023Harrison (wrist) is not expected to need a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison is eligible for activation on Saturday, and while it's not clear whether he will return that day, it does seem possible. The Phillies are waiting for the soreness in his right wrist to fully subside before he's activated.
Jul 12 2023Harrison was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right wrist contusion. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison had to be scratched from the lineup in the Phillies' final game of the first half with the injury and apparently hasn't made enough progress in the subsequent days. The Phillies will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game versus the Padres.
Jul 9 2023Harrison was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins due to right wrist soreness, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison had been in line to start in left field in the series finale, but he'll end up taking a seat after he tweaked his wrist while sliding in Saturday's 5-3 loss. Brandon Marsh -- who was set to get Sunday off -- will enter the lineup in Harrison's stead.
Jun 28 2023Harrison went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run in an 8-5 victory versus the Cubs on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison had appeared in just one game over the past nine days prior to Wednesday, but he got a start at second base and took advantage with a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning. It was just his second long ball on the campaign and his first since April 18. It's been mostly a slog for the veteran this season, as he's slashing just .233/.280/.326 while appearing in less than half of the Phillies' contests.
Apr 4 2023Harrison (ankle) said he'll be available off the bench Tuesday against the Yankees, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was scratched from the Phillies' lineup Monday due to a right ankle sprain, but it seems to be relatively minor. The veteran utilityman is 1-for-5 in two games played this season.
Apr 3 2023Harrison was scratched from the Phillies' lineup Monday due to a right ankle sprain, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies are calling the injury minor and are listing Harrison as day-to-day. Bryson Stott has taken his spot at second base.
Jan 29 2023Harrison agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Phillies on Sunday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder spent the 2022 campaign with the White Sox, and the team declined his $5.5 million club option after he posted a .256/.317/.370 slash line with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 119 games. Harrison should have a chance to earn the starting job at second base, though he's more likely to fill the weak side of a platoon with Bryson Stott while also working as a utility man.
Nov 7 2022The White Sox declined Harrison's $5.5 million club option for 2023 on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Chicago will pay Harrison $1.5 million to buy him out of the 2023 option, so after earning $4 million in 2022, he'll take home $5.5 million in total from the contract he signed back in March. The 35-year-old may not be in line for much more than a low-cost one-year MLB deal in free agency this winter after he slashed an underwhelming .256/.317/.370 over 425 plate appearances this past season.
Oct 4 2022Harrison isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will get a day off Tuesday after smacking a two-run homer in Monday's victory over Minnesota. Romy Gonzalez will take his spot at second base and bat eighth.
Oct 3 2022Harrison went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With AJ Pollock on base in the second inning, Harrison took an 0-1 slider from Bailey Ober deep to left field to tie the game at 2-2 and help the White Sox eke out a 3-2 victory. The home run, Harrison's seventh of the season and first since Aug. 9, comes amid a stretch where the veteran has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. In 421 plate appearances this season, Harrison is slashing .257/.311/.369.
Sep 15 2022Harrison went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored Thursday against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison returned to the lineup after a three-game absence caused by an illness. He was productive in the latter portions of the game, tallying a double in the sixth inning prior to earning a free pass and coming around to score in the final frame. Harrison had been hitting fairly well prior to being sidelined, and he now has at least one hit in eight of his last nine starts. For the season, he has a .253/.317/.366 line across 380 plate appearances.
Sep 11 2022Harrison was removed from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics due to flu-like symptoms, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison had been scheduled to start at third base in the series finale for a resting Yoan Moncada, but Leury Garcia will instead join the lineup while Harrison joins Moncada on the bench. Once he moves past the illness, Harrison will likely serve as a utility man for the White Sox, with rookie Romy Gonzalez having seemingly supplanted the veteran as the team's preferred option at the keystone.
Sep 6 2022Harrison is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tuesday marks the second game in three days that Harrison will miss despite batting .304 since Aug. 28. Romy Gonzalez will fill in for Harrison at second and bat ninth in the order.
Sep 4 2022Harrison is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started the first two games of the series and will take a seat for the finale despite going 3-for-7 with an RBI and two runs. Leury Garcia will step in at the hot corner with Romy Gonzalez starting at second base.
Sep 1 2022Harrison is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will get a breather for the day game after he went 3-for-8 with a double while picking up starts at second base and third base the past two days. Leury Garcia will fill in at the hot corner Thursday, while Romy Gonzalez gets the nod at the keystone.
Aug 28 2022Harrison (undisclosed) is starting at third base and batting second Sunday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was held out of Saturday's lineup due to "bumps and bruises," but he'll return to action for Sunday's series finale. The 35-year-old is 2-for-18 over his past five contests but could see more regular action at third base going forward after Yoan Moncada (hamstring) was placed on the injured list Saturday.
Aug 27 2022Manager Tony La Russa said that Harrison isn't starting Saturday against the Diamondbacks due to "bumps and bruises," James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the extent of Harrison's injury isn't yet clear, he's out of the lineup after drawing two consecutive starts. Once he's fully healthy, he should see his fair share of playing time at third base since Yoan Moncada (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.
Aug 24 2022Harrison is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will get a breather after he went 2-for-8 with a strikeout while starting the last two games. Romy Gonzalez will replace him at second base and bat eighth versus Baltimore.
Aug 21 2022Harrison is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran will receive a breather after he started each of the past 11 games while slashing .286/.318/.310 over that stretch. Romy Gonzalez will spell Harrison at the keystone and will bat eighth.
Aug 10 2022Harrison went 1-for-5 with an RBI on Wednesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison delivered an RBI single in the sixth inning, driving in a run for the second consecutive game. He's also hit well in a limited sample since Aug. 1, collecting eight hits in 25 at-bats while also tallying two RBI and four runs scored across eight starts. Harrison hit leadoff Wednesday, and he could be a candidate to stick in the role in the absence of Tim Anderson (hand).
Aug 9 2022Harrison is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Royals, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during the matinee but won't be in the lineup for Game 2 in Kansas City. Rookie Lenyn Sosa will man the keystone and bat ninth.
Aug 6 2022Harrison will sit Saturday against Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison sits after starting eight of the last nine games, a stretch in which he hit .346/.370/.500. Leury Garcia will take over at second base Saturday.
Aug 1 2022Harrison isn't starting Monday against Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started the last four games and went 3-for-13 with a home run, a double, two runs, two RBI and two strikeouts. Leury Garcia will take over at the keystone and bat seventh Monday.
Jul 27 2022Harrison (leg) is starting Wednesday against Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison missed the last two games due to a leg injury but is starting at the keystone and batting seventh Wednesday. Over his three games since the All-Star break, he's gone 3-for-12 with a double, a run, an RBI and a walk.
Jul 26 2022Harrison (leg) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was scratched from Sunday's lineup with his injury, and he will not start Tuesday either despite a day off in between. Leury Garcia will man the keystone in Harrison's place.
Jul 24 2022Harrison was scratched from Sunday's lineup versus the Guardians with right leg discomfort, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison felt a pulling feeling in the back of his right leg in his final at-bat Saturday, causing him to be unavailable Sunday. An exact diagnosis has yet to come, so he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 18 2022Harrison went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison delivered his fourth home run of the season and second in his last six games. He's been in the lineup for 11 of the White Sox's last 12 games but has hit just .195 with four RBI and three runs scored in that span. Despite maintaining a .671 OPS and .298 wOBA across 231 plate appearances on the campaign, Harrison appears to be in line to continue to get regular playing time at second base for the time being.
Jul 13 2022Harrison will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will stick in the lineup for the seventh time in eight contests, with his lone trip to the bench coming in Monday's 8-4 loss in the series opener. The White Sox haven't yet settled on Harrison or Leury Garcia as their everyday second baseman, but both players' ability to play multiple other positions should allow the two to see steady at-bats.
Jul 11 2022Harrison is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in each of the past four games, Harrison will cede his spot in the lineup to Leury Garcia. Now that Chicago is at close to full strength in the infield, Harrison looks poised to battle Garcia for playing time at the keystone, with manager Tony La Russa most likely to ride the hotter bat of the two. With Harrison going 2-for-14 over his past five games, Garcia may be the favored option at the moment.
Jul 10 2022Harrison will start at second base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will stick in the lineup for the fourth straight game after going 2-for-10 with a double and a walk over the previous three contests. Leury Garcia is also in the lineup Sunday as a replacement at shortstop for the resting Tim Anderson, and Garcia remains Harrison's main competition for a regular spot in the lineup now that the White Sox are at close to full strength. Expect manager Tony La Russa to ride the hotter bat between Harrison and Garcia when it comes to deciding on an everyday second baseman.
Jul 2 2022Harrison isn't starting Saturday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison went 5-for-14 with a homer, four RBI, a walk and five strikeouts over his last four matchups, but he'll be on the bench for a second consecutive game. Leury Garcia is taking over at the keystone and batting eighth.
Jul 1 2022Harrison will sit Friday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison has picked things up at the plate recently, posting a .926 OPS over his last 12 games. He'll rest here after going hitless with three strikeouts Wednesday, with Leury Garcia getting the start at second base.
Jun 28 2022Harrison went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a walk in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison tied the game with a two-run blast in the fifth inning, and he added an RBI single in the seventh. This was his third multi-hit effort in his last six games. The 34-year-old is up to a .234/.308/.351 slash line with two homers, 13 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base through 173 plate appearances. He's likely to resume splitting time with Leury Garcia at second base since Lenyn Sosa was returned to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday while third baseman Yoan Moncada should command most of the playing time at the hot corner.
Jun 26 2022Harrison (elbow) will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison missed the White Sox's previous two games while nursing a sore elbow after he was struck by a pitch in Thursday's 4-0 loss, but he'll be back in action for the series finale. Though second base and third base are the positions where Harrison will likely see most of his playing time moving forward, he'll be making his first start of the season in the outfield Sunday since AJ Pollock is getting a routine maintenance day and Adam Haseley (illness) isn't available to play.
Jun 25 2022Harrison (elbow) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was hit by a pitch in the elbow Thursday and will be withheld from the lineup for a second consecutive game. Lenyn Sosa will start at the keystone and bat leadoff for Chicago.
Jun 24 2022Harrison (elbow) will be on the bench Friday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison left Thursday's series opener after getting hit by a pitch in his elbow. That's presumably the reason he's out of Friday's lineup, though he hasn't been quite a true everyday player this season, so it may just be a routine day off. In either case, it will be Leury Garcia who starts at second base Friday.
Jun 23 2022Harrison exited Thursday's game against the Orioles after being hit by a pitch in the elbow in the fifth inning, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was hit by a Dean Kremer offering and originally remained in the game. However, he exited in the sixth inning and Lenyn Sosa entered the game in his place. The issue didn't appear to be particularly serious, though there will likely be more information available after the game.
Jun 21 2022Harrison went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Monday in a win over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison hit the first of three homers for the White Sox in the contest, blasting a two-run shot to center field off Jose Berrios in the second inning. The long ball was Harrison's first of the campaign in his 45th game. It's been a struggle for the utilityman in his first season with the White Sox, as he's slashing a meager .209/.282/.321. He's added eight RBI, eight doubles, 21 runs and a stolen base to his one homer.
Jun 18 2022Harrison went 2-for-3 Friday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison entered the game after Yoan Moncada was forced to exit with right hamstring tightness. He recorded multiple hits for his second straight game, and he could be in line for an increased role at third base as long as Moncada is sidelined. Overall, Harrison is hitting .210/.277/.306 with 19 runs scored across 138 plate appearances.
Jun 16 2022Harrison went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He drew a start for the first time in four games, filling in for Leury Garcia at second base. Harrison delivered an RBI single in the third inning and came around to score after another base knock to lead off the fifth frame. The veteran infielder is hitting just .198/.269/.298 for the season and appears to be relegated to a bench role for the time being.
Jun 13 2022Harrison remains out of the lineup for Monday's game in Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison is on the bench for the third game in a row and looks to have surrendered the everyday gig at the keystone to Leury Garcia. With a .181/.256/.284 slash line over 130 plate appearances on the season, Harrison could be at risk of being designated for assignment at some point if he remains stuck in a limited role and if the White Sox have to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for another player.
Jun 8 2022Harrison isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will be out of the lineup for the third time in the last five matchups after he went 2-for-6 with a double, a run, a stolen base and a strikeout over the last two games. Leury Garcia is starting at second base and leading off Wednesday.
Jun 5 2022Harrison went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in a 6-5 win Sunday in Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison doubled and scored in the second and added his first stolen base of the season in the third. The multi-hit effort ended a 2-for-22 streak for the infielder. The two-time All-Star has struggled mightily in 2022, hitting just .181/.265/.276 with no home runs through 118 plate appearances. With a .209 BABIP, he may be suffering some bad luck as he has a career-best 88.6 mph exit velocity.
Jun 4 2022Harrison isn't starting Saturday against Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison went 0-for-3 in Thursday's series finale against Toronto, and he'll be out of the lineup for the third time in the last four games. Leury Garcia will start at the keystone while Danny Mendick takes over at shortstop.
Jun 3 2022Harrison is not in Friday's lineup against the Rays, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is in a 2-for-22 skid at the plate over his last eight games. Leury Garcia will man second base while Danny Mendick starts at shortstop.
Jun 1 2022Harrison is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started in the last three games and went 1-for-11 with a run and two walks. Leury Garcia will take over at second base while Danny Mendick starts at shortstop Wednesday.
May 24 2022Harrison will sit Tuesday against Boston, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison sits for the second game in a row after previously making three straight starts. He hasn't earned a true everyday role this season, as he's hitting just .179/.258/.286. Leury Garcia will start at second base.
May 22 2022Harrison isn't starting in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will get a breather after he went 0-for-4 in the first game of the twin bill. Leury Garcia will start at the keystone and bat seventh in the nightcap.
May 18 2022Harrison isn't starting Wednesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started in both games during Tuesday's doubleheader, and he went 2-for-6 with a double, a run, a walk and a strikeout. He'll get a breather while Leury Garcia starts at the keystone and bats seventh.
May 16 2022Harrison will be on the bench for Monday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison has just two hits in his last eight games and owns a .484 OPS on the season. Leury Garcia will get the start at second base Monday.
May 9 2022Harrison is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll take a seat for the third time in four games, with each of those absences from the lineup coming against right-handed starting pitchers. At this stage, Harrison looks to have lost hold of primary duties at second base to Leury Garcia after hitting just .145/.230/.255 over 61 plate appearances during his first season in Chicago.
May 7 2022Harrison isn't starting Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game after starting in six straight matchups prior to Friday. Leury Garcia will start at the keystone and bat ninth.
May 6 2022Harrison is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started the past six games and will take a seat after going 5-for-19 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs. Leury Garcia will man the keystone in his place Friday.
May 2 2022Harrison went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old has delivered two straight two-hit games, lifting his season average to .171 in the process. He'll look to continue his hot-hitting ways in the series finale with the Angels on Monday, when he'll be starting at second base and serving as the White Sox's No. 9 hitter.
Apr 26 2022Harrison went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Tuesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison returned to the lineup for the first time since April 20, though he was limited to duties as the designated hitter. He failed to make an impact with the bat, but the entire White Sox offense was shut down. Even with a depleted White Sox lineup, Harrison will need to improve on his current .097/.152/.194 line to maintain playing time at second base over Leury Garcia.
Apr 24 2022Harrison (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison's sore shoulder will keep him on the bench for the fourth game in a row, allowing Leury Garcia to pick up another turn at the keystone. The White Sox are seemingly viewing Harrison as day-to-day, but if the veteran remains sore following Monday's off day, a stint on the injured list could be in the forecast.
Apr 23 2022Harrison (shoulder) could return to the lineup Sunday against Minnesota, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison left the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Guardians due to shoulder soreness and has since been out of the lineup for three straight days. The White Sox have an off day Monday, so the team could theoretically keep him on the bench Sunday to give him five full days of rest, but manager Tony LaRussa suggested Saturday that he was nearly ready to return.
Apr 22 2022Harrison (shoulder) remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison left the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Guardians due to right shoulder soreness and didn't play Thursday. He'll sit for at least one more game, with Leury Garcia remaining the starter at second base.
Apr 21 2022Harrison (shoulder) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Guardians, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was removed from Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader with shoulder soreness that he sustained after making an acrobatic catch in the field. Leury Garcia will start at second base.
Apr 20 2022Harrison was removed from Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader in Cleveland due to right shoulder soreness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison appeared to suffer the injury while making an acrobatic catch deep in left field, though he initially remained in the contest. The 34-year-old went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts prior to leaving the game and should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated.
Apr 16 2022Harrison (back) is starting Saturday's game against the Rays, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison sat out the last two games due to a back injury, but he'll start at third base and bat seventh Saturday. He hit .167 with a triple, a double, three runs and an RBI in his first five appearances of the season.
Apr 15 2022Harrison (back) is not in the lineup Friday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison finds himself on the bench for the second straight day after leaving Wednesday's game with lower-back stiffness. According to James Fegan of The Athletic, the veteran infielder will be available off the bench and is expected to be back in the lineup Saturday. Leury Garcia receives another start at the keystone in his absence Friday.
Apr 14 2022Harrison (back) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Tony La Russa hinted Thursday that Harrison would be out of the lineup, and that'll officially be the case with Leury Garcia starting at the keystone and batting sixth. Whether the 34-year-old Harrison will be available off the bench remains to be seen.
Apr 13 2022Manager Tony La Russa said Harrison (back) will be held out of the lineup Thursday against the Mariners, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was pulled from Wednesday's contest due to lower-back stiffness and will sit out Thursday, though La Russa also indicated he could be convinced to include the veteran infielder in the starting nine. Regardless, it doesn't appear to be a serious injury for Harrison, and he should rejoin the lineup within a couple days if he is indeed out Thursday.
Apr 12 2022Harrison went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored Tuesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison failed to record a hit, but he did score a run the only time he reached base. He has been in the lineup in each of the White Sox first four games, starting a pair of contests at second base and two at the hot corner. Harrison has only three hits in 16 plate appearances, but he has struck out at only a 6.3 percent clip, so hits should start to fall in with more regularity.
Mar 12 2022Harrison signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the White Sox on Saturday which includes a team option for a second season, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison offers positional versatility and a decent bat, as he hit .279/.341/.400 last season while playing every position except catcher and first base. He could spend the majority of his time in Chicago at second base, where the similar but slightly worse Leury Garcia had looked like the top option. If Harrison finds himself in the lineup nearly every day, he has a chance to record double-digit homers and steals, as he finished with eight and nine, respectively, in 138 games in 2021. Such an outcome may have been more likely on a lesser team, however, as the contending White Sox may see him as more of a high-end utility option.
Oct 3 2021Harrison is not starting Sunday's regular-season finale against the Astros, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison has hit .279/.341/.400 with eight home runs, 60 RBI and nine stolen bases this season, which he split between the Nationals and Athletics. Tony Kemp is starting at second base Sunday.
Oct 2 2021Harrison isn't starting Saturday's game against the Astros, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will get a day off after he went 1-for-13 with an RBI and two strikeouts across the last two games. Tony Kemp will shift to second base while Seth Brown starts in left field.
Sep 27 2021Harrison is out of the lineup Monday at Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started the past seven games and will head to the bench after going 3-for-27 during that stretch. Tony Kemp will take over at second base while Seth Brown and Chad Pinder start in the outfield.
Sep 25 2021Harrison went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs in a win over the Astros on Friday. He was also caught stealing on his only attempt. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Other teammates turned in flashier stat lines with more impactful hits, but Harrison and his fantasy managers will take the busy night of small ball that helped shake the 3-for-25 slump the veteran had been mired in for the previous seven games. Harrison is still carrying an impressive .287/.351/.413 joint slash line between his time with the Nationals and current stint with the Athletics, and he remains just an RBI short of tying his career-best tally in that category that he set back in 2016 with the Pirates.
Sep 19 2021Harrison is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will receive a well-deserved day off after starting the past 26 games for the A's. Tony Kemp will cover the keystone while Seth Brown enters the lineup in the outfield.
Sep 18 2021Harrison went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Friday's win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison ended with only one knock, but he reached base a second time via a hit-by-pitch. Harrison has been providing value as an offensive catalyst at the top of the order and has been a big run-producing threat for Oakland -- he has four straight games with at least two RBI and is hitting .313 with 12 RBI across 64 at-bats this month.
Sep 16 2021Harrison went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in Thursday's win over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison enjoyed his first four-hit game since mid-June, collecting three singles and a double atop the Oakland lineup. His RBI single in the third inning cut the Royals' lead to 2-1, and his run-scoring double in the ninth inning extended Oakland's cushion to 6-2. The latter was the 32nd two-bagger of the season for Harrison, who is slashing .295/.358/.427 across 506 plate appearances between Washington and Oakland.
Sep 15 2021Harrison went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a run scored and a walk Wednesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning and followed that up with a second-RBI single two frames later. He's delivered timely hits of late, as he has eight RBI across his last five starts despite recording no extra-base hits in that span. Overall, Harrison has a .290/.354/.420 line to go along with 54 runs scored and 54 RBI across 501 plate appearances this season.
Sep 8 2021Harrison (back) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Wednesday against the White Sox, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was pulled from Tuesday's contest when his back tightened up after a dive attempt on defense, but it appears to be a minor concern since he's back in the lineup a day later. The 34-year-old is 13-for-35 with an .875 OPS across his past eight games.
Sep 1 2021Harrison went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That makes back-to-back three-hit efforts for Harrison, who logged a double and two singles from atop the Oakland lineup. The trade-deadline acquisition is hitting .309/.356/.457 in 87 plate appearances since joining the Athletics, including an 8-for-14 (.571) run over his last three games.
Aug 26 2021Harrison went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a strikeout in a 7-6 loss to the Yankees on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison singled and scored in the fourth and tied the game with his fifih-inning solo shot off New York reliever Albert Abreu. The homer was the utility man's second in 17 games since coming over from Washington at the trade deadline and he's slashing an above average .290/.362/.433 in 107 games on the season.
Aug 21 2021Harrison went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, a hit by pitch, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was plunked in the first inning and scored on a Seth Brown single. In the third, Harrison padded Oakland's lead with his RBI double. The 34-year-old has played reasonable well with his new team in August, going 12-for-43 (.279) with a home run, five RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases in 13 games. He's slashing .292/.366/.430 with seven homers, 43 RBI, 45 runs scored and eight steals through 407 plate appearances overall while providing some flexibility as a versatile defender.
Aug 19 2021Harrison isn't in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison returned to the lineup for each of the last three games and went 1-for-9 with a run, a walk and two strikeouts. Tony Kemp will start at the keystone and bat eighth in his place.
Aug 16 2021Harrison (quadriceps) is starting at second base and batting seventh Monday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison sat out the past three games while nursing a strained right quad, but he'll rejoin the starting nine for Monday's series opener. The 34-year-old has a .296/.367/.444 slash line in eight games since being acquired by the A's at the trade deadline.
Aug 15 2021Harrison (quadriceps) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will be sidelined for the third consecutive contest after leaving Thursday's game with a strained right quadriceps. According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, Harrison ran the bases Sunday and may be able to rejoin the lineup Monday versus the White Sox. Tony Kemp will cover the keystone in his absence.
Aug 14 2021Harrison (quadriceps) will sit for the second straight game Saturday against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison left Thursday's game against Cleveland with a strained right quadriceps and did not take part in Friday's contest. Whether or not he'll be available off the bench Saturday is unclear. Jed Lowrie remains the starter at second base in his absence.
Aug 13 2021Harrison (quadriceps) will not start Friday's game against Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison left Thursday's game against Cleveland due to a strained right quadriceps. While he's merely considered day-to-day, it's no surprise that he'll sit for at least one contest. Jed Lowrie will be the second baseman in his absence.
Aug 12 2021Harrison was diagnosed with a right quadriceps strain after exiting Thursday's 17-0 win over Cleveland in the second inning, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He drew a walk and scored a run over his lone plate appearance. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bob Melvin said after the contest that Harrison is considered day-to-day, and the Athletics are hopeful that the injury isn't significant. Tony Kemp came off the bench to replace Harrison and would be in store for an increased role if Harrison ends up missing time.
Aug 11 2021Harrison (hand) isn't starting Wednesday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison's X-rays came back negative after he was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's win, but he'll get at least one day to rest. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Jed Lowrie will start at the keystone while Mitch Moreland serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 10 2021Harrison had X-rays come back negative on his right hand after being hit by a pitch during Tuesday's win over Cleveland, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison remained in the game to run the bases after being hit by a pitch, though he was subsequently replaced in the field. He went 1-for-2 with a double and a run before exiting the contest. The 34-year-old avoided a fracture and should be considered day-to-day.
Aug 9 2021Harrison went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run in a win over the Rangers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although not on quite the same scale as fellow trade-deadline acquisition Starling Marte, Harrison has been impressive in his own right since donning an Athletics uniform. The veteran owns a pair of multi-hit efforts since joining Oakland and is hitting .280 with a home run, two RBI, two steals and two runs across 26 plate appearances in his new digs.
Aug 7 2021Harrison went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran utility player took Demarcus Evans deep in the fifth inning, capping the scoring on the day for the A's and giving Harrison his seventh homer of the year. He had gone just 2-for-16 through his first four games with Oakland since coming over at the trade deadline, but his .294/.366/.434 slash line in 90 games for Washington prior to the trade suggested he wouldn't take long to get going in his new uniform.
Aug 6 2021Harrison is starting in left field and batting seventh Friday against Texas, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started at second base in each of his first three games since being acquired from Washington last week, but with Ramon Laureano being handed an 80-game suspension for a positive PED test Friday, he will now make his debut in the Oakland outfield. The versatile 34-year-old will likely still see time at the keystone, but the loss of Laureano almost certainly means he'll be receving a greater amount of outfield reps going forward.
Aug 2 2021Harrison went 1-for-5 in a win over the Angels on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison made his Oakland debut at second base and extended his on-base streak to 14 games in the process. The 34-year-old boasts an impressive .292/.364/.431 slash line overall this season, and his .794 OPS is the second highest of his career. Harrison has performed well against either handedness of pitcher this season and boasts plenty of positional versatility, so he should certainly have a path to regular playing time the rest of the campaign
Jul 30 2021Harrison and Yan Gomes were acquired by the Athletics from the Nationals on Friday for an undisclosed return, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison played second base, third base and all three outfield spots for Washington this season, and he figures to fill a similar utility role in Oakland with Chad Pinder (hamstring) sidelined. Harrison re-signed with the Nationals on a $1 million deal during the offseason and has enjoyed a strong season, slashing .294/.366/.434 with six homers, 23 doubles, 38 RBI, 39 runs and five stolen bases in 90 games.
Jul 21 2020Harrison requested and was granted his release by the Phillies on Tuesday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old joined Philly on a minor-league deal in November, and his request could mean he was unlikely to make the Opening Day roster. Harrison appeared in 36 games with the Tigers last season before going down with injury and had a .175/.218/.263 slash line.
Jun 30 2020Harrison will be part of the Phillies' 60-man roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison, who is not on the 40-man roster, enters a crowded mix of veterans competing for reserve utility infield spots. Neil Walker, Logan Forsythe and Phil Gosselin are all in similar boats as non-roster invites looking to earn the same role. Harrison will have to bounce back from a rough season in Detroit last year, as he saw a career-low .480 OPS across just 147 plate appearances -- his lowest total since 2013.
Mar 24 2020Harrison hit a lopsided .182/.308/.455 in 10 spring games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison grabbed just four hits in 22 at-bats, but two of those hits were home runs. He's in a tight battle with fellow veteran infielders Neil Walker and Logan Forsythe for what appears to be two bench spots, though he'll probably need an injury or two ahead of him to open up a fantasy-relevant role.
Nov 26 2019Harrison agreed to a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday which includes an invitation to spring training, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will join former Pirates teammate Andrew McCutchen if he's able to make the Phillies' roster. The infielder has struggled in two straight injury-filled campaigns, hitting a combined .229/.272/.335, so he'll need to show considerable improvement if he's to win a bench spot.

Jul 25 2018Harrison is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.Harrison will be given a breather for the day game after he recently recovered from a hamstring injury. Sean Rodriguez picks up the start at second base in Harrison's stead in the series finale.
Jul 24 2018Harrison went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Monday against the Indians. He showed no ill effects from a hamstring injury which kept him out of action over the weekend. Harrison, who has missed time the last two seasons with a broken hand due to separate HBP incidents, has been plunked five times in 62 games after totaling 23 HBPs in 128 games in 2017. He recently switched back to his old batting stance (after guarding against HBPs) and his numbers could rise -- provided he avoids getting hit by another pitch.
Jul 23 2018Harrison (hamstring) is back in the lineup Monday against Cleveland.Harrison had yet to appear since the break while battling hamstring soreness. He's playing second base and batting seventh Monday.
Jul 22 2018Harrison (hamstring) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.Harrison continues to deal with lingering hamstring discomfort, which he first experienced during the Pirates' final game prior to the All-Star break. The 31-year-old has yet to return to the lineup a week later and could be a candidate for the disabled list if he fails to show much notable improvement in the next day or two. Sean Rodriguez will pick up a third straight start at the keystone Sunday with Harrison on the bench.
Jul 22 2018Harrison (hamstring) was available to play against the Reds on Sunday, AT&T SportsNet reports. The second baseman's health improved markedly over the All-Star break and manager Clint Hurdle said he would be "back sooner than later." With Pittsburgh riding a season-high eight-game win streak into Sunday, however, the team went with Sean Rodriguez once again at second and he went deep for the second time in three days. Harrison has slashed just .219/.257/.300 in 172 plate appearances since May 25. The career .278 hitter is a reasonable bet to improve upon a .249 batting mark once the trade deadline passes and his status is resolved. He's been the subject of trade rumors all season long.
Jul 21 2018Harrison (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Reds, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.Hamstring suffered a hamstring injury in the final game before the All-Star break and has now sat out the first two games of the second half. Sean Rodriguez will draw his second straight start at the keystone.
Jul 20 2018Harrison (hamstring) is not in the lineup against Cincinnati on Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.Harrison will remain sidelined due to a hamstring injury he suffered Sunday versus the Brewers. In his absence, Sean Rodriguez will man the keystone and bat seventh. Consider Harrison day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 18 2018Harrison (hamstring) will participate in a workout Thursday that will determine his availability for Friday's series opener in Cincinnati, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.Though a return to the field for Friday's game seems a tad optimistic, the club appears confident that Harrison avoided any major injury when he suffered the hamstring discomfort during Sunday's game against Milwaukee. Even if he passes with flying colors, the Pirates may elect to give Harrison a couple more days off in order to be certain of his health.
Jul 15 2018Harrison was removed from Sunday's game against the Brewers after five innings due to an undisclosed injury, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison was spotted limping down the line as he ran out a grounder during his fifth-inning at-bat, so it's likely that he's dealing with some sort of leg injury. Max Moroff entered the game at second base in the top of the sixth in place of Harrison, whose injury should be clarified before the Pirates pack it for the All-Star break.
Jul 15 2018The Pirates announced that Harrison exited Sunday's game against the Brewers with left hamstring discomfort, Elizabeth Bloom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison sustained the injury while running out a groundball out in the fifth inning and was forced to limp back to the Pittsburgh dugout. Max Moroff entered the game at second base for Harrison in the top of the second inning. Harrison will be treated by the team's training staff over the All-Star break, but it's not known if he'll be ready to play in the Pirates' first game of the second half Friday in Cincinnati.
Jul 14 2018Harrison, who went 0-for-3 with a walk Friday, believes he's ready to break out after making a change to his batting stance in the last two games, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The second baseman closed his stance after getting hit on the hand with a pitch in April. "Being open is always where I've been the last couple years; I took it upon myself to do something stupid and close my stance to protect my hand," Harrison said. After slashing just .177/.185/.203 in 20 games (82 plate appearances) through Wednesday, Harrison went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks Thursday and has reached base five times in two games.

Despite that performance, Harrison is slashing .188/.195/.250 in 83 plate appearances since June 13. For the season, he's totaled only four homers and three stolen bases in a thus-far disappointing campaign.
Jul 4 2018Harrison is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.Harrison has recorded one hit in 15 at-bats over his last four games, so it appears manager Clint Hurdle is giving him a day off to clear his mind. With Harrison on the bench, Max Moroff will step in to cover the keystone and bat eighth.
Jun 23 2018Harrison is out of the lineup against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.Harrison will receive a breather after going 0-for-8 over the past two games. In his place, Sean Rodriguez will man the keystone and bat eighth.
Jun 16 2018Harrison went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a second run scored in Saturday's win over the Reds.Harrison singled and scored in the first inning before breaking the game open with his two-run shot in the sixth that put the Pirates up 6-1. The 30-year-old now has six multi-hit games this month, a stretch in which he's hitting an impressive .333/.392/.489 with a pair of homers and a stolen base.
Jun 13 2018Harrison went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.Harrison was lifted early from Monday's tilt with left shoulder blade discomfort, but he was back in the lineup Tuesday without missing a game and showed no signs of any lingering issues. The 30-year-old is hitting a solid .290/.345/.412 through 32 games this season.
Jun 11 2018Harrison left Monday's game against the Diamondbacks with left shoulder blade discomfort, Elizabeth Bloom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison went 0-for-2 with a walk and run scored prior to exiting the game. More information on his status should be released after the tilt, as the severity of the injury is unclear. Sean Rodriguez took over at second base in his stead.
Jun 10 2018Harrison went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a stolen base Sunday against the Cubs.Harrison led off the game with a solo home run against Kyle Hendricks, his third of the season, and also tacked on his second stolen base of the season. He has not been aggressive on the basepaths -- this stolen base marked only his second attempt of the season -- which has been a disappointment in his profile. However, he continues to lead off and his track record suggests he should run more as the season goes on.
Jun 9 2018Harrison is out of the lineup against the Cubs on Saturday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.Harrison is dealing with a "personal matter" according to manager Clint Hurdle, and will get a day off following four straight starts, during which he went 7-for-16 with three RBI. In his place, Sean Rodriguez will draw a start at second base and bat eighth in the order.
Jun 8 2018Harrison went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's loss to the Cubs.Harrison scored the Pirates' lone run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Jun 6 2018Harrison went 1-for-4 on Tuesday and is batting .175 in his last 40 at-bats since May 24.The second baseman recently missed time battling the flu. He's also shown to be allergic to bases on balls, with one walk in his last 77 plate appearances. Since coming off the disabled list with eight hits in 15 at-bats, Harrison's batting average has dropped from .319 to .268. After hitting 16 homers while stealing 12 bases in 2017, he's totaled two homers and one stolen base through the season's first two months. On the positive side, he's been hit by just one pitch after getting plunked 23 times last year.
Jun 3 2018Harrison is not in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.Harrison got off to a hot start in his first five games following his activation from the disabled list, but the second baseman is now just 4-for-26 (.154) at the plate over his last six starts. He'll take the day off with Adam Frazier set to fill in at second base and bat leadoff.
Jun 2 2018Harrison (illness) is starting at second base and leading off Saturday against the Cardinals. He was scratched from Friday's lineup with flu-like symptoms, but it will only cost him one game. Harrison is hitting .304 with one home run and nine strikeouts in his last 10 games (46 at-bats).
Jun 1 2018Harrison was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Cardinals with flu-like symptoms, but he could be available off the bench, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. He was leading off and starting at second base in the initial lineup, but will be replaced by Adam Frazier, who is also leading off. Harrison could appear in this game and it sounds like he could be back in the lineup during this weekend's series against St. Louis.
May 30 2018Harrison went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Cubs. It's his first homer in nine games since returning from the disabled list, and his second of the year. Harrison is hitting .317 (13-for-41) since his activation, and he should continue providing solid fantasy value hitting at the top of the Pirates' order.
May 27 2018Harrison is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.Harrison will be given his first day off since returning from the disabled list on May 20. The second baseman has gone 10-for-28 (.357) with four RBI in his first six games back. Adam Frazier will fill in at second base.
May 25 2018Harrison went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and a pair of RBI to help the Pirates to an 8-1 victory over the Cardinals on Friday.Harrison stayed hot since his activation from the disabled list, as he's now 10-for-23 with four RBI in five games since his return to the lineup. He's hitting .309 through 76 at-bats, and if he can manage to keep his on-base percentage around his current mark of .353, he would have plenty of upside as a source of steals and runs hitting atop Pittsburgh's lineup.
May 23 2018Harrison went 4-for-6 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Reds. He's doing his best to make up for lost time -- Harrison has banged out eight hits in three games since coming off the disabled list, boosting his slash line on the season to .319/.370/.431. Expect the 30-year-old to remain at the top of the Pirates' lineup as long as he's locked in.
May 20 2018Harrison (hand) was activated from the DL and will lead off Sunday against the Padres. The 30-year-old is back for the series finale, as expected, after completing a brief three-game rehab stint at Double-A Altoona. Harrison wasn't playing all that well before suffering the injury, slashing .263/.328/.351 with one homer and one steal in 14 games, but his contact skills give him a steady floor in batting average and he's capable of chipping in double-digit homers and steals.
May 20 2018Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI on Sunday against the Padres.Harrison immediately returned to the leadoff role for the Pirates after missing more than a month due to a hand injury. The injury doesn't appear to still be an issue for him as he singled in his first at-bat before recording a double in his second at-bat. He had done well getting on base prior to his injury -- he has a .348 on-base percentage in 61 at-bats this season -- and if that continues he should have run scoring and stolen base upside from the leadoff spot.
May 19 2018The Pirates plan to reinstate Harrison (hand) from the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison began his rehab stint at Double-A Altoona on Monday, totaling 12 at-bats over three games. The 30-year-old is barely a month removed from fracturing the fifth metacarpal on his left hand, but he should reclaim starting duties at second base for Pittburgh upon his return.
May 15 2018Harrison (hand) went 0-for-3 with a walk for Double-A Altoona on Monday in his first game action in a month. He started at second base and played seven innings for the Curve. Harrison is expected to return within the next week, but there is no specific set date. He fractured the fifth metacarpal of his left hand on a hit-by-pitch in Miami on April 15 - the same bone he broke on a hit-by-pitch last September.
May 13 2018Harrison (hand) will kick off a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona on Monday, Cory Giger of the Altoona Mirror reports.Harrison is targeting a weekend return from the 10-day disabled list, so he'll likely play multiple games between Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis to show the Pittsburgh brass that he's fully recovered from the fractured left hand he sustained in mid-April. Once Harrison is back in action for the Pirates, he'll likely reclaim duties as the club's primary leadoff hitter and everyday second baseman, resulting in Adam Frazier shifting back into a utility role.
May 12 2018Harrison (hand), who continues to take swings in the batting cage, could begin a rehab assignment next week and possibly return as soon as May 19 against the Padres, AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh reports.Pittsburgh announcer Greg Brown spoke with Harrison and said the second baseman is "quietly confident" about coming back pretty soon. The team hasn't released a timetable for Harrison, but fantasy owners should be aware that he could return ahead of schedule.
May 9 2018Harrison (hand), who has intensified his workouts in the last week, will meet with team doctors Friday to determine his next step. He's just over three weeks into a six-week rehabilitation process for a fractured bone beneath his pinky finger. Harrison said he's fielding ground balls, taking swings in the batting cage and doing "pretty much everything but game-speed stuff." There's a chance he could return in less than the projected time period, but the second baseman wants to make certain he's fully healthy. "When I come back, I'm going to be good to go," Harrison said. "The main thing is I want to make sure the bone's healed completely."
May 2 2018Harrison (hand) has yet to be cleared to swing a bat, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports. The infielder has already been out a little over two weeks, though it appears that he still has a few hurdles to overcome in his rehab program. Harrison is participating in some baseball activities, however. He was seen fielding grounders and tracking pitches in the bullpen, so his return appears to largely be hinging on when he'll be able to swing.
Apr 16 2018Harrison was diagnosed with a fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand Monday as is expected to miss approximately six weeks. This is a tough break for Harrison, who suffered an identical injury in September of last year that ended his season prematurely. The 30-year-old sustained the injury after getting hit by a pitch during Sunday's game against the Marlins. His initial timetable for a return has him sidelined until the beginning of June. Harrison was off to a hot start to the season prior to injuring himself, hitting .263/.328/.351 with a homer, a stolen base and five RBI across 14 games. The Pirates will likely use a combination of Adam Frazier and Sean Rodriguez to fill in for Harrison at the keystone.
Apr 15 2018Harrison (hand) will undergo further examination in Pittsburgh after getting hit by a pitch Sunday in Miami, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The second baseman did not have his left hand in a cast or brace, but we probably won't find out the extent of his injury until Monday. Harrison fractured the same hand last September, ending his season prematurely. Adam Frazier and to a lesser extent, Sean Rodriguez, would likely fill in for Harrison in the event he needs to miss any time.
Apr 15 2018Harrison was forced to leave Sunday's matchup with Miami after he was struck by a pitch on his left hand, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison was in visible discomfort and was noticeably upset while on his way out of the game. Adam Frazier will enter the game for him in the meantime, but check back later for the team to provide an official update on his status.
Apr 12 2018Harrison is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.Harrison will head to the bench for the series finale after going 2-for-10 during the first two games. Adam Frazier is set to man the keystone and bat atop the order in his absence.
Apr 1 2018Harrison missed hitting for the cycle by a triple in the second game of Sunday's twin bill, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.Harrison batted second in the order in Game 1 and led off in Game 2. The second baseman is hitting .357 in the early going and has scored five runs in three games. He's 10-for-29 with two homers against Monday starter Lance Lynn.
Mar 27 2018Harrison will start at second base and bat leadoff Tuesday in the Pirates' Grapefruit League finale against the Phillies, Elizabeth Bloom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates are rolling out a lineup that looks to be a preview of what they'll use on Opening Day in Detroit, where the team will be able to use David Freese as its designated hitter. With that in mind, it appears Harrison will be tasked with setting the table for Pittsburgh to begin the 2018 campaign, though he'll likely move down to the two hole on the occasions when utility man Adam Frazier is included in the lineup. Whether he ends up batting primarily first or second this season, Harrison's outlook shouldn't change much, as he'll remain a plus source of steals, batting average and runs out of either lineup spot.
Feb 24 2018Harrison (hand) will start at second base and bat leadoff against the Yankees on Saturday.Harrison suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal after being hit by a pitch in early September, but it appears that he's fully healthy as the Pirates get underway with their Grapefruit League contests. In 2017, he slashed .272/.339/.432 with 16 home runs, 47 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
Nov 6 2017Harrison (hand) was reinstated from the 60-day DL on Monday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. This move is just a formality since there's no DL in the offseason. Harrison fractured his fifth metacarpal back in early September and there's still no guarantee that he'll be ready to go at the start of training camp in mid-February.
Sep 10 2017Harrison (hand) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Sunday.Harrison has been out since Sept. 3 after being hit by a pitch, which fractured his hand. Unfortunately, moving him to the 60-day disabled list will bring the utility man's season to an end. Over 128 games, Harrison hit .272/.339/.432 and mashed 16 home runs, the most of his career. In a corresponding move, the Pirates selected Dan Runzler's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Sep 3 2017Harrison has been diagnosed with a fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand and has been placed on the 10-day DL by the Pirates.Harrison was forced to exit Saturday evening's game after getting hit by a pitch, and it was later reported he visited an orthopedic hand specialist. The utility man did not receive good news, and it turns out his league-leading 23rd hit-by-pitch will be a costly one. The team did not provide a timetable for return, but did call up infielder Chris Bostick to take Harrison's spot on the roster. Look for Sean Rodriguez to see most of the available reps at the keystone while Harrison is on the shelf, with Max Moroff another potential candidate to draw the occasional start.
Sep 2 2017Harrison will visit an orthopedic hand specialist, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates want to get a better idea of where Harrison stands after he was hit in the hand by a pitch Saturday. Sean Rodriguez replaced Harrison in the game and would presumably start at second base in the coming games if Harrison isn't cleared.
Sep 2 2017Harrison left Saturday's game against the Reds after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison took his base after being plunked by a Tyler Mahle pitch, but he was replaced at second base by Sean Rodriguez the following inning. It was Harrison's 23rd hit-by-pitch this season, most in the majors.
Aug 29 2017After sitting out Monday's game, Harrison will return to the lineup Tuesday, batting second while playing second base.Harrison is hitless in his last seven at-bats after seeing a six-game batting streak (9-for-26) come to a close. He has just two hits in 23 career at-bats against Tuesday starter Jake Arrieta.
Aug 24 2017Harrison went 1-for-4 against the Dodgers on Wednesday, breaking up Rich Hill's no-hitter and winning the game with a 10th-inning walkoff homer.Like the rest of the Pirates, Harrison had been nothing more than a victim of Hill's virtuoso performance through nine innings, as he struck out twice against the lefty earlier in the game. This time was different, though, as he sent a 2-1 pitch just over the left-field wall -- not the most impressive homer, but still one for the history books: No other player in MLB history had broken up a no-no with a walkoff homer in extra innings. For fantasy owners' purposes, this is just another bit of help from Harrison, whose 16 homers, 12 steals, 63 runs and .281 average are helpful stats across a wide variety of formats.
Aug 18 2017Harrison went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Friday against the Cardinals.Harrison crushed his 14th home of the season to tie the game at one in the first inning of a home loss. He's been a useful fantasy player based on his solid batting average and 12 steals, but his slugging percentage is a pedestrian .431.
Aug 17 2017Harrison went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and three runs scored during the Pirates loss to the Cardinals on Thursday. The bomb came in the first inning, striking an early blow to St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright and giving his team a 2-0 lead early in the matchup. It was his 13th home run of the season, which ties his career high set in 2014. His power numbers overall are up this season, as he's on pace to finish with a slugging percentage north of .400 for just the third time in his career.
Aug 10 2017Harrison is out of the lineup Thursday against the Tigers, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison will receive a day off following six straight starts, including an 0-for-3 trip to the plate during Wednesday's loss to Detroit. In his place, Sean Rodriguez picks up a start at the keystone, batting seventh.
Aug 5 2017Harrison went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Saturday against the Padres.Harrison's 12th homer of the season put the Pirates on the board in the seventh inning of a road loss. In addition to providing a solid batting average, he also provides fantasy owners with double digits in both homers and stolen bases.
Aug 5 2017Harrison went 3-for-5 with three RBI against the Padres on Friday.Friday's start was his first since Sunday, when he injured his left ankle. Harrison winced after beating out an infield hit against San Diego, but he stayed in the game and matched his season high in runs batted in. Pittsburgh traded for Sean Rodriguez on Saturday. Rodriguez could steal a few starts from Harrison at second base or free both players up to serve as super-utility players.
Aug 4 2017Harrison (lower leg) is in Friday's lineup against the Padres.Harrison has been out since Sunday, when he left the game after lunging into first base while beating out a ground ball. The 30-year-old was able to pinch hit Wednesday, and will return to his typical spot at second base in the two-spot of the order for Friday's series opener.
Aug 3 2017Harrison (lower leg) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Reds, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Although he was able to make an appearance as a pinch hitter Wednesday night, the Pirates will let Harrison rest his ailing leg another day in order to get him back to 100 percent. Adam Frazier will man the keystone in his stead.
Aug 3 2017Harrison (lower leg) made a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday against the Reds, grounding out in his only at-bat.Harrison had been held out of the starting lineup in back-to-back games due to what has been characterized as lower leg discomfort. Since he was able to log a plate appearance, Harrison could be a candidate to return to action for Thursday's 7:05 ET contest against Cincinnati.
Aug 2 2017Harrison (lower leg) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds. This marks the second consecutive game that Harrison will miss due to his lower leg discomfort. The team is still confident that he'll avoid the disabled list, but until he's back into action, Adam Frazier seems like the main replacement at second base.
Aug 1 2017Harrison is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds.Despite the fact that he isn't playing Tuesday night, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the infielder is feeling much better already and is confident he'll avoid the disabled list. For Tuesday, however, Adam Frazier will replace Harrison at second base.
Jul 30 2017Harrison left Sunday's game with an apparent left ankle injury. He injured himself lunging into first base while beating out a ground ball. Harrison initially stayed in the game but decided to take remove himself several pitches later. The 29-year-old has dealt with other injuries to his left ankle as recently as spring training in 2015. Pittsburgh enjoys an off-day Monday, so the team might not update his status until Tuesday.
Jul 30 2017Harrison's injury is being characterized as left lower leg discomfort. The injury appeared to involve his left ankle at first which has had issues in the past, although the team is avoiding that language for the time being. Harrison should be considered day-to-day until further tests are done. The Pirates are off Monday, but if Harrison is unable to play Tuesday, look for Adam Frazier or Max Moroff to fill his spot in the lineup Tuesday.
Jul 16 2017Harrison is not in the lineup Sunday against the CardinalsHarrison is hitless since the All-Star break, going 0-for-9 with two strikeouts. He'll take a seat Sunday, allowing Adam Frazier to step in from the outfield to man the keystone.
Jul 15 2017Harrison is hitting 385/.429/.731 with three doubles and two homers in 26 at-bats against Saturday starter Lance Lynn.Including a three-hit game the Friday before the All-Star break, Harrison is batting only .132 in 38 July at-bats. His matchup against Lynn couldn't come at a better time. The Pirates' lone All-Star could get moved around the infield and outfield more frequently when Starling Marte (suspension) returns Tuesday. It's also possible he loses playing time if his slump continues.
Jul 8 2017Harrison went 0-for-4 against the Cubs on Friday, giving him two hits in 28 July at-bats.The All-Star could sit Saturday with Jake Arrieta on the mound. Harrison is 2-for-23 versus Arrieta. Since June 28, he's been hit by nearly as many pitches (four) as hits he's collected (five). The mid-season break can't get here soon enough for Harrison.
Jul 8 2017Harrison is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.Harrison will take a seat after five straight starts while Adam Frazier mans the keystone against Chicago. In the past ten games, Harrison is just 5-for-38 at the plate, and could use the day off to clear his head. The second baseman has had a relatively superb season until the past couple weeks, hitting .275/.356/.424 with nine home runs, 27 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Jul 6 2017Harrison snapped an 0-for-21 slide with a ninth-inning single Wednesday against the Phillies.Interestingly, he was recently moved from the second spot to leadoff, a change which could've disrupted his routine. Regardless, the Pirates' lone All-Star representative continues to enjoy his finest season since 2014, slashing .280/.360/.433. Harrison is 2-for-6 against Thursday starter Jeremy Hellickson.
Jul 2 2017Harrison is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.Harrison has been a consistent source of production in the Pirates' lineup all season, but he'll get the day off after going 0-for-6 at the plate during Saturday's loss. Max Moroff will take over at second base, batting seventh.
Jun 30 2017Harrison went 2-for-2 with his 10th stolen base Thursday against the Rays.He was also hit by a pair of pitches, extending his major-league lead to 18 HBPs. Speaking on 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh's post-game show, Harrison said he's no longer favoring the thumb ligament he tore in 2015 and can cover the entire plate. He's now slashing .296/.377/.461 with nine homers and 10 stolen bases in 328 plate appearances.
Jun 28 2017Harrison went 2-for-3 with a walk Tuesday against Tampa Bay.His ninth-inning double helped Pittsburgh erase a two-run,ninth-inning deficit. Harrison's .374 OPS is 50 points above his career average (.324). He needs one walk to match his career high (22) and leads the NL with 16 HBPs. Harrison continues to play exclusively at second base in June, but that figures to change when Starling Marte returns in mid-July, pushing current left fielder Adam Frazier into a part-time player who could play second base occasionally.
Jun 25 2017Harrison went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, two RBI and two runs during Saturday's win over St. Louis.None of Harrison's numbers jump off the page, but his cross-category production makes him a valuable fantasy commodity. He's sporing a .294/.374/.463 slash line with nine homers, 26 RBI, nine stolen bases and 32 runs. His consistent playing time will also help him continue to provide serviceable counting stats.
Jun 22 2017Harrison will bat second and play third base Thursday against the Brewers, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison is 7-for-12 with three doubles and a homer against Thursday's starter, Chase Anderson. He had a pair of hits -- including a hustling double -- Wednesday and is slashing .297/.370/.456 in 299 plate appearances.
Jun 17 2017Harrison is not in the lineup Saturday against the Cubs. After starting the past 27 contests (and batting .315 in that span), Harrison will finally get a day off. Adam Frazier will move in to man second base in his stead, while John Jaso takes over in left field to round out the lineup.
Jun 13 2017Harrison went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored during Monday's win over Colorado.Harrison is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak with a 1.184 OPS, two homers, six RBI, a stolen base and six runs. He's having his best season since posting a .837 OPS in 2014, and the second baseman is also locked into the two-hole of the lineup of late. His numbers are moving the fantasy needle in most settings, and Harrison's cross-category profile is rare for a middle infielder.
Jun 10 2017Harrison extended his batting streak to seven games Friday, going 1-for-2 with an RBI double against Florida. He's hitting .427 in 27 at-bats during his hot stretch and shows no signs of slowing down. For the season, Harrison is slashing .308/.375/.473 with seven homers and five stolen bases. Adam Frazier and Harrison have combined to give Pittsburgh an effective 1-2 punch atop the order since Frazier returned from the DL in the middle of May.
Jun 8 2017Harrison was 2-for-4 with a strikeout Thursday against the Marlins.Harrison's night was indicative of his performance over the past month or so. Since May 10, he is hitting .330 with two home runs, seven doubles and seven RBI. Therefore, Harrison has developed into a quality fantasy option on the infield given his penchant for hitting for average.
Jun 6 2017Harrison (calf) is back in action Tuesday against the Orioles, batting second and playing second base.Harrison was lifted from Sunday's contest after being hit on the right calf by a pitch, but it seems that the off day Monday provided enough rest to get him back to full health. He'll resume his normal role in the upper-third of Pittsburgh's batting order, looking to score runs in front of Gregory Polanco and David Freese.
Jun 4 2017Harrison exited Sunday's game against the Mets early after being hit by a pitch on the right calf, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. It was the 10th time that Harrison has been plunked by a pitch this season. He stayed in the game immediately following the HBP but was eventually lifted on the base paths by pinch runner Max Moroff. An update on his condition should become available following Sunday's contest. The Pirates have the day off Monday before traveling to Baltimore on Tuesday.
Jun 4 2017Harrison exited Sunday's game against the Mets early after being hit by a pitch in the calf, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Jun 3 2017Harrison had three hits in four at-bats Friday, including a double and his seventh home run of the season. The big night boosted his batting average to .303. Harrison has now played 29 games at third base and 28 games at second, plus five more in the outfield, showing his versatility. His .333 BABIP is only slightly better than his career mark (.321), while his 1.7 WAR is already better than season totals for 2015 and 2016.
May 29 2017Harrison went 2-for-5 against the Mets on Sunday, extending his hittng streak to 10 games. He's hitting .386 in 44 at-bats, though he's totaled only two extra-base hits (both doubles) and two RBI during his hot stretch. Harrison and Adam Frazier have formed a decent top-of-the-order tandem, helping Pittsburgh's offense in recent games. Overall, Harrison is batting .310/.371/.462 with six homers and five stolen bases. The lifetime .286 hitter currently features an .833 OPS, well above his career .735 mark.
May 17 2017Harrison is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.Harrison is off to arguably the best start in his career, but he'll head to the bench after playing every game since May 7. Gift Ngoepe will man the keystone in his stead.
May 17 2017Harrison doubled and belted his sixth homer Tuesday, going 2-for-4 against Washington. He's hitting .292/.355/.482 in 137 at-bats. Harrison's .837 OPS is more than 100 points higher than his career average (.733) and matches his OPS from 2014, his career year. It was thought that he'd shuffle between second base and left field following the return of Adam Frazier, but he's stayed in the infield over the last three games.
May 10 2017Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. The versatile infielder raised his slash line to .299/.362/.479 after going 0-for-8 in the first two contests of the series against L.A. Harrison looks to be fully healed from the foot injury he nursed earlier in the week, and provides a reasonable amount of fantasy value atop Pittsburgh's lineup.
May 8 2017Harrison (foot) is batting leadoff and playing third base Monday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.Harrison's return to the lineup confirms that his absence Sunday was mostly precautionary. He'll look to continue his strong start at the plate in May, as he is slashing .308/.357/.692 with three homers and six RBI through seven games this month.
May 7 2017Harrison is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison was Saturday night's hero, providing a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning to secure a series win against the Brewers. The hot-hitting Harrison will head to the bench Sunday after apparently playing through a "throbbing" foot Saturday, Adam Berry reports. It doesn't sound like the foot pain is anything too serious, but he'll be listed as day-to-day until we get confirmation of his availability for Monday's series opener against the Dodgers.
May 3 2017Harrison went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Tuesday in Cincinnati.Since moving to the leadoff spot seven games ago, Harrison is batting .345 with four homers and eight RBI in 32 plate appearances. He's already hit five home runs in 2017, the second highest total of his career. While the power will likely taper, he figures to run more often. Harrison has swiped two bases in four attempts.
May 2 2017Harrison went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during Monday's loss to Cincinnati.Harrison has occupied the leadoff spot in each of the past six games and posted six runs, three home runs, five RBI and a .360/.370/.760 slash line during that span. He's provided modest five-category results in the past and projects to continue setting the table for the Pirates for the foreseeable future. His positional eligibility is also a nice fantasy bonus.
Apr 27 2017Harrison raised his slash line to .417/.517/.750 in 29 plate appearances against left-handed pitching in 2017 Wednesday. He's batted leadoff the last two games, a move which always seems to spark him. For his career, Harrison is hitting .310/.345/.454 from the first spot. With Adam Frazier mending on the disabled list, look for the free swinger to continue seeing opportunities atop the lineup while he's hot.
Apr 27 2017Harrison went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Cubs.He led off the game with a homer, continuing a hot streak that has seen Harrison hit safely in seven straight starts while piling up a .391/.462/.609 slash line over his last seven games. With the Pirates looking for all the offense they can get right now, expect the super-utility man to remain in a prominent spot in the batting order.
Apr 25 2017Harrison is playing third base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Cubs. With Adam Frazier (hamstring) on the DL, Harrison will slide up to the top of the order against right-hander Kyle Hendricks. He's 3-for-8 while batting leadoff this season, and given his success last year at the top of the order (.327 with 18 RBI and seven stolen bases in 162 at-bats), it seems he could be a primary option to lead off against right-handed pitchers while Frazier is sidelined.
Apr 24 2017Harrison went 2-for-4 with two singles Sunday against the Yankees. He stranded three baserunners. He's seen time at second base (13 games) and third base (six games) but has yet to become part of Pittsburgh's right field shuffle, playing one game in left field. Harrison is batting .291 with two stolen bases in 62 plate appearances, but has only one double and one homer. He's hit seventh or lower in the batting order in over half his starts and has made errors in his last two starts. Harrison has the ability to get hot and carry his fantasy weight but it hasn't happened so far in 2017.
Apr 22 2017Harrison is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees. It appears to be a regular rest day for Harrison, who has caught fire of late to raise his season average to .280. Adam Frazier will take his spot at the cornerstone.
Apr 19 2017Harrison is manning second base and leading off in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. With Adam Frazier getting the day off, Harrison gets a chance to return to the top of the order. The 29-year-old hit .327 with 18 RBI and seven stolen bases out of that spot last season, but has been mainly limited to the bottom of the order this year.
Apr 18 2017Harrison, who went 0-for-1 Monday, was hit by a pair of pitches in his first two at-bats before being removed for a pinch-hitter in St. Louis.Harrison was plunked by pitches in four consecutive plate appearances (including two at Wrigley Field on Sunday) and Elias Sports Bureau was unable to find another similar instance, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. After playing 128 of 129 games at second base in 2016, Harrison has bounced around second base, third base and left field. He's batting .263 in 38 at-bats with one homer and two stolen bases. With hot-hitting Adam Frazier comfortable at second base, it wouldn't be surprising to see Harrison see continued time at third and in the outfield.
Apr 11 2017Harrison (leg) will play second base and bat seventh Tuesday against the Reds.Harrison is back in the lineup after getting hit by a pitch in his leg and missing Monday's contest. The 29-year-old is 4-for-17 with two runs and two RBI through five games this season.
Apr 10 2017Harrison (leg) is available from the bench for Monday's game against the Reds, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison said that he's feeling better after being hit by a pitch Sunday, so it's likely that his return isn't too far away, especially considering he's available in a limited capacity Monday. However, until Harrison is ready to return, look for Adam Frazier to fill in at second base.
Apr 10 2017Harrison (leg) is not in the lineup Monday against the Reds, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison will get the day off after he was forced out of Sunday's game after being hit by a pitch in the leg. The injury didn't appear overly serious, and the Pirates are likely just being cautious, but he should be considered day-to-day until his status is updated. While he is out of the lineup, Adam Frazier should continue to see time in his place.
Apr 9 2017Harrison exited Sunday's game against the Braves shortly after being hit by a pitch in the leg, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison tried to play through the pain initially and was noticeably limping while making his way down the first base line. His exit from the contest could very well be just precautionary, but more will be known about his status following the end of Sunday's game.
Apr 9 2017Harrison is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Braves, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.Harrison will receive his first day off this season. He's being relieved by backup utility infielder Phil Gosselin, who was traded to the Pirates this offseason.
Mar 28 2017Harrison could see time at third base in addition to second base, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "There may be opportunity for conversation if we get short in a position," manager Clint Hurdle said. "If situations change, I do think there is a buy-in that's real with him. I do think his versatility can help him."With third baseman Jung Ho Kang (restricted list) out indefinitely, the team is expected to primarily play David Freese at third base. If he struggles like he did at the end of 2016, however, look for Harrison to take over the hot corner and Adam Frazier to start at second base. Harrison had his best seasons as a super-utility player and could reprise that role in 2017.
Mar 4 2017Harrison will join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic, replacing the injured Matt Carpenter (back), Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.Harrison has certainly earned the honor, emerging as one of the best utility players in the National League. The 29-year-old contributed a career-high 59 RBI and 19 stolen bases last season while batting .283 over 131 games. Harrison spent this offseason rehabbing from a groin injury, but it appears he's back to full strength and ready to showcase his skills on the international stage.
Feb 19 2017The Pirates could use Harrison as a utility player if Jung-Ho Kang (personal) is forced to miss time, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "I do think there is a buy-in (to move) that's real with him," manager Clint Hurdle said. "I do think his versatility can help him."Harrison had his career season in 2014 when he moved around the infield and outfield. Perhaps more importantly, he says he's recovered from a torn thumb ligament. Harrison underwent surgery in July of 2015 and never fully recovered in 2016. "If it was cold or if I didn't hit a ball right, just rolling over that joint sometimes would be painful enough to where I would know that it was still there," Harrison said. He followed a normal offseason program this past winter. "I was able to get after it like I wanted to, without any reservations," Harrison said. The 28-year-old hit .283 with a career-high 19 stolen bases last year but compiled a woeful .699 OPS.
Dec 5 2016Harrison (groin) is taking part in his normal offseason program, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.Harrison injured his groin on Sept. 11 and did not appear in another game for the Pirates. It appears that he has progressed well and will be fully healthy for the start of spring training. It is not a guarantee that he will open the season with the Pirates, as it is rumored that the team is open to trading the second baseman whose offensive production has tapered off since his breakout 2014 campaign.
Sep 26 2016Harrison (groin) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Monday. The Pirates needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster after trading for minor league infielder Chris Bostick, and considering Harrison was already ruled out for the season, he was the clear choice to send off. He'll return to the active roster sometime over the offseason and will likely get back to a starting role for Pittsburgh heading into next season.
Sep 12 2016Harrison has been diagnosed with a right groin strain and is expected to be out 4-to-6 weeks, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison should be recovered from his setback at some point in October, but with the Pirates fading fast in the playoff hunt, he is likely done for the season. Adam Frazier and Sean Rodgriguez are favorites to see increased action at second base the rest of the way.
Sep 11 2016Pirates GM Neal Huntington clarified Sunday that Harrison's groin injury is more severe than a day-to-day situation, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison suffered the injury during Saturday's tilt with the Reds and was replaced in the lineup by Sean Rodriguez on Sunday. With Harrison's return date up in the air, it may make sense to keep him on the bench in weekly formats in favor of a healthier player. In the meantime, the Pirates figure to use Rodriguez and Adam Frazier more liberally at second base, and perhaps everyday shortstop Jordy Mercer could see some time at the position as well.
Sep 11 2016Harrison (groin) won't play Monday and has no timetable for a return, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports. The second baseman sat out Sunday's game after injuring his right groin while running the bases Saturday. Harrison is riding a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .383/.400/.483 in his last 66 plate appearances. Harrison is riding a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .383/.400/.483 in his last 66 plate appearances. Sep 10 2016Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and run in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Reds. The leadoff man opened the scoring by plating Jody Mercer with a third-inning two-bagger, plating Jody Mercer and erasing an early 1-0 deficit in the process. Harrison has been on a tear at the plate, with a nine-game hitting streak that includes all of his September contests so far, and six multi-hit efforts. He's slashing a stellar .394/.400/.515 over his first 33 at-bats of the month, as well as a solid .294/.318/.406 overall in the second half of the season.
Aug 28 2016Harrison went 3-for-5 with a two-RBI single and two runs in Saturday's 9-6 victory over the Brewers. The leadoff man brought the Pirates closer in a pivotal fourth inning by plating Jody Mercer and Eric Fryer with a bases-loaded single, and enjoyed his sixth multi-hit outing of August. Harrison has a modest three-game hitting streak and has hit safely in nine of his last 12 overall. With the pair of runs driven in Saturday, he's now one RBI away from equaling the career-best figure of 52 that he achieved back in 2014.
Aug 27 2016Harrison went 1-for-4 with a walk Friday while batting leadoff for the 18th time in August. After a hot start while hitting atop the order, Harrison has managed two hits in his last 20 at-bats. He's not a prototypical leadoff man, but remains Pittsburgh's best choice, according to manager Clint Hurdle. It wouldn't be surprising to see Adam Frazier give Harrison a break in the coming days. For the season, Harrison is batting .269/.298/.375 with four homers and 16 stolen bases.
Aug 21 2016Harrison went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and double in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Marlins. The leadoff man was the only meaningful contributor in the Pirates lineup on a day when David Phelps and an array of Marlins relievers shut down their offense. Harrison saved Pittsburgh from the indignity of a shutout by plating Jody Mercer with an eighth-inning single, and now has a six-game hitting streak and an RBI in three straight games.
Aug 14 2016Harrison went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and a pair of runs scored in Sunday's 11-3 victory over the Dodgers.Harrison has come to life in eight games since moving into the leadoff spot, and is now hitting .363 with eight runs scored and four RBI during that time. It has been a down season for Harrison on the whole, but he could be a difference maker down the stretch if he continues to produce while hitting in front of the likes of Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco.
Aug 13 2016Harrison is batting .310 (9-for-29) since moving to the leadoff spot seven games ago.The second baseman hit .181/.212/.292 in his previous 151 plate appearances. With a 13:60 BB:K, Harrison is far from the prototypical leadoff man. He appears to be the best fit right now, however, so look for him to potentially score more runs while he hits first in the order.
Aug 13 2016Harrison is out of the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers, MLB.com's Adam Berry reports.Harrison is batting .310 since moving to the leadoff spot a week ago, and will get his first day off since then. Adam Frazier will start at second base and slot into the leadoff spot for Saturday's matinee.
Aug 8 2016Harrison went 1-for-4 his fourth homer while batting leadoff again Sunday. The homer was his first since July 20th and the RBI was his third since July 6th -- a span covering 22 games and 70 plate appearances. Harrison also missed connecting for a game-tying grand slam by just a few feet. The second baseman batted first in the order over the weekend with improved results, going 4-for-12 against the Reds.
Aug 6 2016Harrison hit leadoff for the second straight game Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.Hot-hitting Adam Frazier has taken away a couple starts from Harrison in the last week, but Harrison is by far the better defender at second base. The move to the top of the batting order has sparked the Cincinnati native and it wouldn't be surprising to see his months-long slump come to a close.
Aug 4 2016Harrison (leg) is back in the lineup Thursday against the Braves. The Pirates never really elaborated on the extent of Harrison's right leg injury -- they labeled it as "discomfort" -- but apparently it was a relatively minor setback as Harrison's slated to return following a two-game absence. Harrison is barely hitting above the Mendoza Line over the past two months, and with three homers and 12 steals on the season, he currently ranks outside the top-20 options at second base in terms of season-to-date production.
Aug 3 2016Harrison (leg) is out of Wednesday's lineup against Atlanta, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. For the second day in a row, Adam Frazier will get the nod to start at second while Harrison deals with a leg injury. Frazier, who's hitting .400/.444/.720 over the last 14 days, is likely to continue starting at second until Harrison is ready to return. Pittsburgh has yet to say the severity of Harrison's injury, so he should be considered to be day-to-day at this point.
Aug 2 2016Harrison (leg) is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Braves.Adam Frazier will start at second as Josh Harrison sits out of Tuesday's contest. The team has yet to say the extent of Harrison's injury or indicate when he will be ready to return, but information should be available in the near future.
Jul 31 2016Harrison exited Sunday's game in the sixth inning with right leg discomfort, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. It certainly appeared Harrison's right leg was the issue and that's indeed the case. The extent of the injury remains unclear but the team should update his status again in the coming days. If he's unable to go for the team's next contest Tuesday against the Braves, Jordy Mercer, Sean Rodriguez and Adam Frazier would all be candidates to start in his place at second base.
Jul 31 2016Harrison departed Sunday's game against the Brewers in the sixth inning with an apparent right leg injury, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison collided with Brewers outfielder Keon Broxton at first base and was extremely slow to get up. He immediately departed the game, with Adam Frazier replacing him at second base. The team should update his status again when more about the injury surfaces.
Jul 28 2016Harrison, who went 1-for-4 with a triple Wednesday, is batting .184/.208/.316 in his last 101 plate appearances since June 20.He has just one multihit effort during that span. Hot-hitting rookie Adam Frazier has taken away a couple starts at second base from Harrison, but the Bucs need Harrison as an offensive contributor. He's stolen 14 bases, but has attempted only two steals in his last 35 contests. Despite hitting only three homers all season long, Harrison has hustled his way to three triples in his last seven starts.
Jul 26 2016Harrison is not in the starting lineup as the Pirates take on the Mariners on Tuesday,Harrison will take a seat as Adam Frazier will get the start at second base. Over his past 10 games, Harrison has struggled, hitting just .167 with seven strikeouts in 31 at-bats. Look for Harrison to be back in the lineup on Wednesday as the Pirates host left-hander James Paxton and the Mariners.
Jul 21 2016Harrison is not in the starting lineup Thursday against Milwaukee, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison will get his first maintenance day since the end of the All-Star break as Adam Frazier makes the start at second and bats leadoff. Harrison has collected hits in each of his last four games (4-for-16), three of those going for extra bases.
Jul 17 2016Harrison is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.Harrison suffered a minor foot injury prior to the All-Star break, but it didn't prevent him from starting the first two games of the series against Washington. He'll take a seat Sunday, however, as a team day off Monday will give the infielder extra time to ensure the ailment doesn't persist into next week. Adam Frazier will take over at the keystone in his stead.
Jul 15 2016Harrison (foot) is starting at second base and leading off Friday against the Nationals. He was limited with a foot injury prior to the All-Star break, but apparently the time off was all he needed to get right. Despite the fact that he is leading off, Harrison has a rough matchup Friday against righty Stephen Strasburg.
Jul 10 2016Harrison left Saturday's game shortly after taking a pitch off his left foot. The second baseman drove in a run with a bases-loaded HBP before leaving due to left foot discomfort. Harrison has a history of ankle problems, but foot issues are something new. We'll likely know the results from X-rays -- and his status for Sunday -- prior to the finale against the Cubs.
Jul 10 2016Harrison (foot) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison left Saturday's game after taking a pitch off his foot and will be held out of Sunday's matchup as a precaution. The second basemen is being replaced in the lineup by Sean Rodriguez who's batting fifth in the order. Harrison will look to return to better hitting ways once the second half begins as he's gone 11-for-62 (.177) over his last 18 games.
Jul 2 2016Harrison went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Friday in Oakland.Harrison is trying to reverse a troubling trend which has seen his batting average fall from .327 to .284, thanks to a 13-for-73 stretch since June 9. He's driven in four runs the last two games, matching his total for the previous 16 contests.
Jun 28 2016Harrison is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mariners.Adam Frazier will make his first career start at the major league level with Harrison the bench against right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma. Harrison has been slumping throughout June (.198 average) and his line against right-handed pitching is down to .273/.298/.376. Tuesday's absence marks his second in five games.
Jun 24 2016Harrison is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. In the midst of a 3-for-26 slump, Harrison will get a mental and physical breather as Sean Rodriguez steps in at second base. Harrison remains in a regular role but his chances to hit in the upper-third of the batting order may be few and far between moving forward.
Jun 22 2016Harrison went 0-for-4 Wednesday and has five hits in his last 45 at-bats.He holds a 1:9 BB:K during his slump and has one extra-base hit since June 9. He doesn't appear to be suffering from any particular injury, but fantasy owners might want to check his matchup before automatically inserting him into lineups until he proves differently. Harrison's .704 OPS is at its lowest point since April 17.
Jun 11 2016Harrison went 0-for-5 with an RBI Friday, ending a five-game hitting streak (10-for-22).He's played all 55 games at second base in 2016, a change from past years when he moved all over the diamond. Harrison has noticeably lost weight and is running more than ever -- he's swiped 11 of 12 bases -- and has returned to the spark plug he was in 2014. With only two homers, the power hasn't returned but the speed and batting average (.319) both have.
Jun 8 2016Harrison went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases Wednesday against the Mets. The two swipes pushed his total to 11 in 54 games -- that's one more than he picked up in 114 games last year, when he was also caught eight times. Harrison's done a much better job of picking his spots this year, and it certainly doesn't hurt that he's also sitting on a career-best .322 average. One of the game's better contact hitters, Harrison has banged out eight base knocks in the last four games and could set a whole host of new career highs if he can keep up anything resembling his current pace.
Jun 7 2016Harrison is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets.Cole Figueroa will make a rare start as Harrison sits following a 3-for-5 effort in Game 1. Harrison is now batting .323/.355/.424, and he stole a base in the matinee to give him nine for the season. He had just 10 stolen bases all of last year (114 games).
Jun 5 2016Harrison went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-7 victory over the Angels. The 28-year-old doesn't get the press of superstar teammates Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and Andrew McCutchen, but has proven to be a highly effective catalyst wherever he's been in the order this season. Harrison's production Saturday represented his third multi-effort in the last six games, and snapped him out of a 1-for-13 start to June. He's now slashing .319/.353/.415 on the season, and his diverse stat line includes eight doubles, two triples and eight stolen bases.
May 31 2016Harrison (illness) returned to the starting lineup Monday, going 2-for-5 with a double and his eighth stolen base.Manager Clint Hurdle batted Harrison leadoff for the first time in 2016 and the second baseman responded with a big game. It appears as if he's finally past the illness which had kept him from playing a complete game over the last week.
May 30 2016Harrison (illness) is back in the starting lineup Monday against the Marlins.Harrison had missed four of the last five games while dealing with an illness, but manager Clint Hurdle will bat him out of the leadoff spot in his return to action Monday evening. Jordy Mercer or John Jaso have typically handled the leadoff job this season, but with Mercer on the bench and a lefty on the hill for the Marlins, neither were options for the Memorial Day showdown. Harrison and his .356 OBP certainly fit the bill, however.
May 29 2016Harrison (illness) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Jason Mackey of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.Harrison had to be removed from Friday's lineup, and will now sit for the second straight day. Sean Rodriguez will take over for Harrison at second base, making his third start in the last five games.
May 28 2016Harrison (illness) isn't in the starting lineup Saturday against the Rangers. He went 1-for-2 Friday before leaving the game. Cole Figueroa will take Harrison's place at second base.
May 26 2016Harrison (illness) came off the bench and hit a two-RBI pinch-hit double Thursday against the Diamondbacks.Harrison was held out of Wednesday' and Thursday's starting lineup due to an illness, but he seemed to be just fine as he blasted an opposite-field double off of the Diamondbacks' Jake Barrett. He'll likely reclaim his place in the starting lineup Friday as long as no complications arise with his health.
May 25 2016Harrison is dealing with an illness, which is why he was scratched from Wednesday's lineup.Sean Rodriguez was inserted into the six hole and will start at second base in Harrison's stead. Harrison has proved his doubters wrong so far this season, as he is batting a robust .314 with two home runs and seven steals through 171 plate appearances.
May 25 2016Harrison was scratched from Wednesday's lineup.Harrison was initially slated to bat sixth and play second base against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, but something caused manager Clint Hurdle to remove the 28-year-old from the starting lineup in favor of Sean Rodriguez. It's unclear if the scratch is injury-related or not, but that should become clearer following the conclusion of the game.
May 24 2016Harrison went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored before being relieved by Sean Rodriguez in the eighth inning due to the blowout nature of Tuesday's 12-1 win over the Diamondbacks.Even with the slightly early exit, Harrison managed to reach base three times. The 28-year-old now has four hits and three runs scored over the last two games, and has hit safely in eight of his last nine. He's one of many Pirates swinging a hot bat at the moment.
May 23 2016Harrison went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored in the Pirates' win over the Rockies on Monday afternoon. While the .490 slugging percentage he posted during a 2014 breakout has been unrepeatable in the two seasons since, Harrison is positioned to eclipse 20 stolen bases for the first time as a big leaguer as he's now 7-for-8 on the basepaths this season. The two-hit effort Monday pushed his season line to a steady .308/.337/.410 mark through 42 games.
May 18 2016Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 12-9 win over the Braves. With the Pirates letting go of Pedro Alvarez and Neil Walker in the offseason, Harrison's path to regular playing time has been much easier in 2016, and the utility man has taken full advantage. He's batting .309 to go with two homers in 139 at-bats, and is a perfect 6-for-6 on steal attempts.
May 12 2016Harrison hit a game-tying homer off Tony Cingrani in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 5-4 win.His services on a scheduled day off were required when Starling Marte was ejected in the sixth inning. Harrison's batting average (.314) and on-base percentage (.341) are nearly identical to his stellar season of 2014, but his slugging percentage (.430) is well below the mark he put up two years ago (.490). He's played in all but one of Pittsburgh's first 33 tilts, but the team will likely begin watching his time more closely, given that he's never played in more than 143 contests in a single season.
May 10 2016Harrison is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.Harrison has been very good through 31 games this season, hitting .308/.336/.400 with one home run and 17 RBI. This is simply a day off to rest after starting the last five games for the Pirates.
May 3 2016Harrison is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs. After starting the last four games and seeing a bump up to third in the order, it looks to be just a normal day off for Harrison with the Pirates set to face Jake Arrieta. Sean Rodriguez will man the keystone in his stead Tuesday.
May 1 2016Harrison is moving up to third in the order for Sunday's game against the Reds.David Freese's absence from the lineup Sunday allows Harrison to take his spot as the number three hitter. He's slashing .368/.409/.579 over the last week and .404/.423/.596 over the past two weeks overall. Harrison and the Pirates will be facing righty Tim Adleman.
Apr 30 2016Harrison went 1-for-3 with his first homer of the season Friday. The opposite-field dinger was his first since May 15, 2015. Harrison also made a sparkling play defensively -- he's started all 23 games of the season at second for the Bucs. He's 5-for-23 with a pair of doubles and two stolen bases against Saturday starter Alfredo Simon.
Apr 24 2016Harrison is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Sunday will mark the first day off of the season for Harrison, who has started each of Pittsburgh's first 18 games at second base. The utility infielder is now working on a three-game hit streak, over which he has collected six base knocks and raised his batting average to .324. After missing much of 2015, Harrison is starting to pay dividends to fantasy owners who bought low on the 28-year-old.
Apr 22 2016Harrison is batting fifth in the order against southpaw Patrick Corbin on Friday in Arizona. The second baseman raised his batting average to .302 after going 2-for-4 Thursday. Harrison, who's batted almost exclusively in the seventh spot, stole his fourth base in as many attempts. He was successful in 10 of 18 chances in 2015.
Apr 16 2016Harrison went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and two stolen bases Friday. He hasn't looked out of place starting all 11 games at second base and has slashed .256/.298/.279 in 48 plate appearances. Harrison is hitting lower in the order (6th or 7th) after primarily batting leadoff in 2015. He's driven in only four runs, however, leaving a total of 30 runners on base (in 48 plate appearances) through 11 tilts. Harrison hasn't come up with the big hits in the early going on a team which has been unable to deliver the clutch hit.
Mar 30 2016Harrison doubled and tripled Tuesday against the Yankees and is batting .292 in 48 spring at-bats.Harrison will finally get to play his original position (second base) on a full-time basis in 2016. The fact he's legging out extra-base hits bodes well for him, given that he suffered an ankle injury during spring training last year and seemed hampered by the ailment for the first month of the season. He could be on tap for a nice rebound campaign.
Mar 13 2016Harrison went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles in Sunday's win over the Tigers. He was credited with a hustling double on a simple grounder back up the middle -- the type of play Pittsburgh will look for from the versatile fielder. Harrison is set to serve as the team's everyday second baseman. He's made just 99 career appearances at second but came up through the minors as a second baseman.
Dec 16 2015Pirates GM Neal Huntington recently stated that Josh Harrison will take over starting second baseman duties following the departure of Neil Walker, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison compiled a career year in 2014 (.315/.347/.490 ) as a super utilityman, but fell off last year (.287/.327/.390) when he primarily played third base. The 28-year-old began his pro career as a second baseman in the Cubs organization but has made only 67 of his 333 big-league starts there. Harrison's new-found positional stabilty helps ensure regular playing time but he'll have to field well -- he made 17 errors in 2015 -- to keep his full-time gig. Prospect Alen Hanson looms on the horizon.
Oct 3 2015Harrison went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Reds.Harrison had come in to Saturday's contest in a 3-for-18 funk, so his first three-bagger of the season came at an opportune time. The 28-year-old has posted respectable offensive production in 2015, but his numbers are disappointing when compared to his 2014 campaign, even factoring in his 105 fewer plate appearances. Nevertheless, Harrison figures to be counted on during the Pirates' postseason run, however lengthy it may be.
Sep 27 2015Harrison is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cubs. The Pirates' infield remains well-stocked heading into the final week of the regular season, leaving Harrison available to pick up only semi-frequent at-bats. He'll be forced to sit out for a second straight game.
Sep 24 2015Harrison went 3-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 romp over the Rockies.Harrison has slotted into a top-two spot in the order in each of the Pirates' last two games, responding with five hits and four runs scored during those contests. Even with Jung-Ho Kang (knee) out of the picture, Harrison will still have to fight for at-bats with Neil Walker at second base and Aramis Ramirez at third base heading into the season's final week. Harrison will surely help his cause if he's able to parlay his recent success over to the next few contests.
Sep 18 2015Harrison figures to see continued steady playing time with the season-ending injury to Jung-Ho Kang.Harrison, who has already started six of Pittsburgh's last seven games, is batting .345/.406/.448 over that span. He'll still have to battle Aramis Ramirez for playing time at third base, but with Kang gone there will be more opportunity for Harrison at third base when Ramirez shifts to first. Harrison's OPS has drop from .837 in 2014 to just .681 in 2015, but he's seeing the ball better than he has all season long right now.
Sep 15 2015Harrison is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs.Harrison has been hot lately, but he will not start the opener of Tuesday's twin bill. While he will not get the chance to start two games Tuesday, it seems likely he will be in the lineup somewhere for the nightcap.
Sep 14 2015Harrison has started four straight games since Thursday, going 9-for-19 with two doubles and four runs scored. With Starling Marte (flu) expected back as soon as Tuesday, Harrison's run of consecutive games played will likely end. That said, Pittsburgh hosts a day-night doubleheader Tuesday and plays Thursday afternoon after a night game Wednesday. As a result, he should see action as manager Clint Hurdle often goes with the hot hand.
Sep 10 2015Harrison has seen his playing time cut into by the emergence of Jung-Ho Kang and the team's improved health and depth in recent weeks.Since coming off the DL on Aug. 21, Harrison is batting .179/.256/.179 in 43 plate appearances and has started only nine games. With Kang and Aramis Ramirez hot, it will likely take an injury for Harrison to become more than a bit player and occasional starter. He served as a ninth-inning replacement at second base for Neil Walker on Wednesday.
Aug 29 2015Harrison delivered a game-deciding pinch-hit RBI single Friday against the Rockies. He's reached base five times in his last 10 plate appearances after initially struggling following a DL stint. Harrison will likely see action over the weekend with Colorado throwing a pair of left-handed starters. Since 2013 he's hitting .333 (73-for-219) versus southpaws.
Aug 27 2015Harrison is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. It's a little surprising that Harrison's not in there over Gregory Polanco in right after he reached base three times and scored twice Wednesday, especially with a lefty in Justin Nicolino toeing the rubber for Miami. Regardless, it seems manager Clint Hurdle is intent on giving Harrison regular days off until he earns back an everyday role.
Aug 26 2015Harrison singled in his final at-bat Tuesday after going hitless in his first nine at-bats coming off the DL.He's seen action three times at second base and once at third (where he saw the majority of time prior to getting hurt). Manager Clint Hurdle is giving time based upon merit and matchups and right now Harrison is taking a backseat (and rightfully so) to Jung-Ho Kang and Gregory Polanco.
Aug 23 2015Harrison is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.Harrison went 0-for-5 in his first two appearances since returning from the disabled list Friday. Manager Clint Hurdle hasn't committed to Harrison regaining an everyday role at any infield positions, but the 28-year-old's versatility should nonetheless afford him plenty of at-bats at multiple spots down the stretch.
Aug 22 2015Harrison is hitless in five at-bats over two games since returning from the DL on Friday.Harrison went 1-for-19 during his rehab stint, but Pittsburgh brought him back (some might say rushed) to face Madison Bumgarner on Friday, against whom he'd gone 4-for-5. Harrison will start against lefties, but matchups will likely determine who starts against righties in a crowded left side of the infield. Manager Clint Hurdle has called the situation "fluid," with Harrison, Jung-Ho Kang, Aramis Ramirez and Jordy Mercer (when he returns from the DL) all fighting for playing time.
Aug 22 2015Harrison is starting at third base and hitting sixth Saturday, MLB.com's Adam Berry reports. It is unclear how Harrison will be deployed typically now that all the Pirates' are healthy, but so far he has hit leadoff and played second base against a lefty and on Saturday he moved down in the lineup and across the diamond against righty Mike Leake. Don't expect Harrison to be in the lineup every day, but early indications are that he will receive enough at-bats to be useful in most formats.
Aug 21 2015Harrison (thumb) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will bat leadoff for the Pirates on Friday.Harrison's thumb injury has cost him approximately the six weeks initially listed as the timetable. He will finally make his return Friday, however, playing second base in his return. While he should receive consistent starts against left-handed pitching, it's unclear how much he'll play against righties following the recent addition of Aramis Ramirez.
Aug 21 2015Harrison returned from the disabled list (wrist) going 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Pittsburgh's loss to the Giants on Friday night. He was also hit by a Madison Bumgarner pitch.Playing in his first game since July 5th, and leading off, he struck out swinging on three pitches in the first inning, then was hit by a pitch in the second inning before grounding out in the fifth. He left for pinch-hitter Gregory Polanco when Bumgarner was replaced by a right-handed pitcher in the seventh.
Aug 21 2015The Pirates activated Harrison (thumb) from the disabled list Friday. He'll leadoff and play second base against the Giants' Madison Bumgarner. Expect Harrison to start four or five games per week and come off the bench the rest of the time.
Aug 20 2015Manager Clint Hurdle indicated Thursday that Harrison (thumb) could return at some point this weekend, Tom Singer of MLB.com reports.Harrison has been on a rehab assignment for just over a week, but has gone just 1-for-19 over five games with Triple-A Indianapolis. However, it seems the Pirates feel he's healthy enough to rejoin the club. It's likely he'll take over the primary duties at third base upon his return, but the addition of Aramis Ramirez during his time on the disabled list could lead to more days off for Harrison.
Aug 12 2015Harrison (thumb) went 1-for-4 in his first rehab game Tuesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.Manager Clint Hurdle has intimated that both Harrison and Jordy Mercer might be best served playing in the minors until September callups, that way the organization doesn't have to take players off the 40-man roster. At the same time, injuries could necessitate an earlier move. It would be surprising to see either player recalled within the next week, however.
Aug 9 2015Harrison (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Indianapolis, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Tuesday was the original target date for Harrison, and that date was confirmed Sunday afternoon. He may even be joined by teammate Jordy Mercer, who appears to be a bit ahead of schedule in his rehab. It's currently unclear how many games are planned for Harrison's rehab stint, but he appears to be on track for a late-August return. At that point, he'll likely fight to take reps from the recently-acquired Aramis Ramirez.
Aug 5 2015Harrison (thumb) is slated to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.Harrison is nearly a month removed from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. He figures to require several rehab games as he works back to full strength, and he remains on track to return to the Pirates in late-August.
Jul 26 2015Harrison (thumb) fielded grounders and played catch Sunday morning, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison was spotted without the cast on his left thumb, suggesting that he's been healing as the Pirates' medical staff has anticipated. This shouldn't be taken as a sign that Harrison will beat his projected timetable, however, as he remains on track to rejoin the Pirates in late August or early September.
Jul 21 2015Harrison (thumb) worked out on the field Monday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison continues to sport a cast on his left thumb, so it doesn't look like an early return is on the horizon. Instead, it seems Harrison is just attempting to stay active and conditioned in anticipation of coming off the DL in late August or early September.
Jul 8 2015Harrison underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and is expected to miss seven weeks, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison was placed on the disabled list Monday with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb. It was expected for Harrison to seek a second opinion, but he instead opted to get the surgery out of the way. This injury will knock him out until mid-to-late August in all likelihood, with Jung-Ho Kang filling in at third base for Harrison.
Jul 6 2015Harrison will miss six weeks with a torn thumb ligament, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Harrison's name wasn't listed on Monday's lineup card, which indicated a move involving him was on the horizon. This a big blow for the Pirates, but the recent emergence of Jung-Ho Kang should ease the pain of the loss a bit. It won't help owners as much though, as they will now likely need to look elsewhere for a third baseman for the next six weeks. Harrison indicated he will receive a second opinion on the issue once the swelling goes down, so there's reason for a little bit of optimism until that is released.
Jun 30 2015Harrison is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison has started all but three games this month, so Tuesday's absence is likely nothing more than a scheduled day off. Neil Walker will get the start at second base while Jung Ho Kang gets another start at third.
Jun 29 2015Harrison, who had two singles in 14 at-bats over the weekend, has seen his isolated power numbers drop from .175 to .103 since last season. The free swinger never possessed great plate discipline, but he's swinging at more pitches outside the strike zone, 41 percent to 38 percent, since last year. Furthermore, he's not pulling the ball. Harrison's pull rate has dropped from 45 percent to 35 percent. While it's likely he'll keep his batting average above .270 or so, he probably won't hit 13 home runs again -- he has four homers in 301 plate appearances.
Jun 21 2015Harrison, who will bat leadoff Sunday, is 5-for-9 with two homers against starter Gio Gonzalez.Harrison will look to get back on track Sunday after seeing Max Scherzer end his nine-game hitting streak with a no-hitter Saturday. The versatile infielder/outfielder is batting .330 (31-for-94) in day games.
Jun 15 2015Harrison had a big day at the dish Monday, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two steals and an RBI.Harrison has been raging hot at the plate lately, collecting 11 hits in his last four games. The infielder is hitting .340 this month and now has seven steals and 33 runs scored to go with his .280 batting average.
Jun 13 2015Harrison tied his career high with four hits Friday, going 4-for-6 with a double against the Phillies. The Pirates had kept Harrison out of the starting lineup twice in their last six games, so he was fresh for Friday's tilt -- good thing as the game went 13 innings and was delayed by rain. He's hitting .271 with a .706 OPS in 218 at-bats, but since May 12 is batting .361/.397/.500 in 116 plate appearances.
Jun 10 2015Harrison is not in the lineup against the Brewers on Wednesday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison will get the day off as Jung Ho Kang takes over at third base against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse. Kang will bat fifth in the order.
Jun 8 2015Harrison reached base four times Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk against the Braves.Since May 12 Harrison is hitting .372/.412/.532 in 102 plate appearances. Unlike last season, he has to stay hot or risk riding the bench with Jung-Ho Kang in the mix. Harrison has one hit and three strikeouts in six career at-bats versus Monday starter Jimmy Nelson.
Jun 6 2015Harrison doubled off the third baseman's glove in a pinch-hitting role Friday. He went on to play second base in the ninth inning of Pittsburgh's 10-8 win. Harrison has five or more appearances at second base, third base and in the outfield. He's slashing .260/.298/.393 with four homers, 18 RBI and four stolen bases after a terrible start.
Jun 6 2015Harrison is back in the lineup Saturday against Atlanta.Harrison got the night off Friday, but came in to pinch hit against the Braves. He'll take over at third base for Jung-Ho Kang on Saturday and face Julio Teheran.
Jun 5 2015Harrison is out of the lineup Friday. This is just a standard day off for Harrison, as the Pirates continue to work at getting everyone semi-regular at-bats. Jung-Ho Kang will get the start at third base Friday with Jordy Mercer starting at shortstop.
Jun 4 2015Harrison went 0-for-5 Wednesday and has just two hits in his last 17 at-bats.Harrison recently missed a start with a sore shoulder. On Wednesday, the third baseman appeared to struggle a bit while throwing across the diamond. He's already committed eight errors in 40 starts at third after making three miscues in 55 third-base starts in 2014. It appears he's capable of playing through his injury, but is less than 100 percent healthy.
Jun 4 2015Harrison went 0-for-5 Wednesday, giving him two hits in his last 17 at-bats.Harrison recently missed a start with a sore shoulder. On Wednesday, the third baseman appeared to struggle a bit while throwing across the diamond. He's already committed eight errors in 40 starts at third after making three miscues in 55 third-base starts in 2014. May 29 2015Harrison went 1-for-3 with two walks, his third stolen base and an RBI against the Padres on Thursday. He's raised his batting average from .173 to a season-high .261 with 27 hits in 63 at-bats since May 12 -- when Pittsburgh began moved him defensively between the infield and outfield again. Harrison has seven doubles, two dingers and all three of his stolen bases during his 15-game hot streak.
May 23 2015Harrison extended his hitting streak to 10 games Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, two RBI and his second steal of the season.Harrison is on an absolute tear right now, with six multi-hit performances in his last eight games and a .488 (21-for-43) batting average over the course of the streak. After producing very little over the first six weeks of the season, he seems determined to make up for lost time.
May 20 2015Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI Tuesday against Minnesota. His double was initially ruled a homer before replay changed the call. Still, Harrison remains on fire with 15 hits in his last 29 at-bats. Interestingly, the Pirates have kept Harrison down in the batting order -- he hit seventh Tuesday. That's helped to keep the pressure off Harrison, but with Gregory Polanco struggling at the top of the order, manager Clint Hurdle might decide to flip the two in the coming days.
May 17 2015Harrison extended his hitting streak to six games Sunday, going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. He batted seventh and played third base Sunday, but he's also seen time in the outfield and second base during his hot stretch. In his last six games, Harrison is 12-for-25 with seven runs, two homers, four RBI and a stolen base.
May 13 2015Harrison is leading off against Phillies lefty Cole Hamels on Wednesday. He was in that spot for Sunday's game too, and the Pirates appear to be mixing at matching with platoons on a regular basis. Harrison homered and stole a base in Tuesday's game, and he'll look to continue making strides toward breaking out of his sluggish start to the season.
May 12 2015Harrison socked a three-run homer Tuesday and stole his first base of the season against the Phillies. He also walked for just the fourth time in 113 at-bats. Harrison, who entered the game with two hits in 37 at-bats, isn't quite out of the woods yet. He committed his sixth error in 233.2 innings at third base after making three miscues in 518.2 innings last season. Still, the dinger and walk are both encouraging signs for Harrison.
May 12 2015Harrison is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.Harrison has been slumping heavily lately, causing him to lose reps to Jung Ho Kang at third base. He'll return to the lineup Tuesday, however, as Kang will instead take the starting spot of Jordy Mercer for the evening contest.
May 11 2015Harrison is out of the lineup Monday against the Phillies.Harrison is 1-for-14 (.071) in the last seven days and a day off could help him right the ship. He's now hitting .173 on the season and has as many strikeouts as hits. Jung-Ho Kang will get another start at third base in Harrison's place.
May 9 2015Harrison went 1-for-4 with a run scored Friday. He also drew his first walk in 90 plate appearances Thursday. The hit was just his second in 37 at-bats. Harrison looked shaky at third base Friday, committing one error while nearly making a second one, and it's possible he's feeling more pressure after signing a $27 million deal in April. He's hitless in three at-bats against Saturday starter, Carlos Martinez.
May 7 2015Harrison went 0-for-4 Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday's tilt against the Reds.A move down to seventh in the batting order didn't help take any of the pressure off Harrison. Hitting has always been his best tool, but with the team struggling offensively, it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out more often -- at least until he breaks out of his slump. Harrison has three hits in his last 36 at-bats.
May 5 2015Harrison is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.Harrison went just 1-for-16 in the Pirates' recently-completed series against the Cardinals, so manager Clint Hurdle decided to give him Tuesday's game off. Jung-Ho Kang will man the hot corner in Harrison's place.
May 3 2015Harrison went 0-for-7 in St. Louis on Sunday, completing a road trip with five hits in 36 at-bats.Harrison played second base for the first time in 2015 Sunday, giving Neil Walker a rest. Harrison has widened his strike zone, as evidenced by a 2:18 BB:K ratio. The team is committed to him, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him lose playing time to Jung-Ho Kang if he continues to struggle. Harrison's batting average is down to .188 in 96 at-bats.
May 1 2015Harrison returns to the lineup Friday and will bat second for the first time in 2015.Gregory Polanco will take over the leadoff spot. Harrison is batting just .213 with a 2:16 BB:K ratio and zero stolen bases, but holds a career .438 batting average (7-for-16) against Friday starter, Lance Lynn.
Apr 29 2015Harrison is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.Harrison has started in each of the previous 15 games, but manager Clint Hurdle removed him in the fifth inning of Tuesday's tilt and inserted Jung-Ho Kang. Kang will get the start at third base Wednesday in his stead, but it's possible that Harrison is nursing some sort of injury.
Apr 23 2015Harrison went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored Thursday against the Cubs. The leadoff hitter narrowly missed a homer to left-center field, punching a line drive halfway up the padded wall. While Harrison is still looking for his first stolen base and has only three RBI, he's showing signs of breaking out of his early-season malaise.
Apr 14 2015Harrison opened Monday's home opener with a homer on the game's first pitch in a 5-4 win over Detroit. The dinger snapped a 1-for-15 stretch since Opening Day. Harrison may have been pressing a little bit since signing a contract worth a guaranteed $27 million during the opening series in his hometown of Cincinnati. He's never faced Tuesday's starting pitcher, Shane Greene, before. Harrison hit .307 in 407 at-bats against righties in 2014.
Apr 13 2015Harrison is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.Harrison, who is off to just a 3-for-19 (.158) start, will return to action after receiving his first day off of the season Sunday. As he did in the Pirates' first five games, he will man the hot corner and bat leadoff Monday afternoon.
Apr 12 2015Harrison is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Travis Sawchik of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. There aren't any indications that this is due to injury, so chalk it up to rest unless something comes out going forward. Korean import Jung-ho Kang will fill in at third for the recently extended 27-year-old.
Apr 8 2015Harrison agreed to a four-year, $27.3 contract with the Pirates on Wednesday. The deal includes team options for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The pact includes this season, buys out Harrison's final two years of arbitration and also his first -- and possibly second and third -- years of free agency. Harrison is not a lock to remain at third base long-term, but he will likely play there as long as Neil Walker is in Pittsburgh, and could slide over to second base down the road unless Walker signs an extension of his own. Harrison is coming off a breakout season in which he hit .315 to go along with 13 home runs, 52 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.

Apr 6 2015Harrison went 2-for-4 with a double Monday afternoon. He batted leadoff and scored on an Andrew McCutchen home run. Harrison, who enters 2015 with a full-time job at third base for the first time in his career, figures to score plenty of runs atop Pittsburgh's lineup while hitting in front of McCutchen and company.
Mar 26 2015Harrison is hitting .313 in 32 at-bats after dealing with an ankle injury early in camp.He batted leadoff Thursday, where he will likely slot during the regular season. The third baseman will have a tough time replicating his 2014 numbers (.315/.347/.490), but he's shown few signs of slowing down this spring. Newcomer Jung-Ho Kang has struggled at the plate and Pedro Alvarez has transitioned to first base from third, paving the way for full season of hot corner action from Harrison.
Mar 9 2015Harrison will bat leadoff and start at third base Monday against Minnesota. He hasn't played since rolling his ankle Wednesday. Harrison had better be careful to not miss too much time, as the team has options like Jung-Ho Kang that it didn't have a season ago. He's slated to serve as the Bucs' everyday third baseman.
Mar 9 2015Harrison went 0-for-2 with a walk Monday against Minnesota. He made some nice plays defensively and looks to be recovered from the ankle injury which kept him out of action for five days. Skeptics of Harrison rightly point to the .353 BABIP which helped him to a .315 batting average in 2014, but he did post a very similar .317 batting average and .360 BABIP in 296 Triple-A plate appearances in 2013.
Mar 5 2015Harrison's ankle injury isn't considered overly serious, as the third baseman "caught himself" before rolling it, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison dealt with multiple ankle injuries in 2014, but the infielder seems to be insinuating that this ailment is minor in nature compared to those injuries. The Pirates will likely take it easy with Harrison in the short term, but if his statement holds true, he should be able to return to action well before the end of spring training. Pittsburgh will likely take an extended look at a few of their younger infield options until Harrison is ready to return to the lineup.
Mar 4 2015Harrison left Wednesday's spring training game with pain in his left ankle, Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison presumably injured his ankle while running the bases in the first inning. While it's still unclear what he's dealing with exactly, his status should be updated at some point in the near future, especially if it's anything more than a minor issue.
Jan 16 2015Harrison and the Pirates avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $2.8 million contract for 2015, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.2014 was a dream season for Harrison, finishing second in the NL batting race while playing multiple positions and cementing himself as building block for the Pirates. He was rewarded with a pay raise of more than $2 million in his first go-around in the arbitration process. It's worth noting Harrison's .315 batting average was likely buoyed by a BABIP 40 points higher than his career average, indicating random chance played at least a small part in his breakout season. Still, he'll be an intriguing pick-up next year, possibly qualifying as a third baseman, second baseman, and outfielder.
Dec 3 2014The Pirates tendered Harrison a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline.Pittsburgh has already penciled in Harrison as its starting third baseman for 2105. As a first-year arbitration-eligible player, he's set to receive a sizable raise from $500K to somewhere around $5 million after slashing .315/.347/.490 in 550 plate appearances as a 26-year-old. The organization has committed to moving Pedro Alvarez across the diamond from third base to first, clearing a path for Harrison.
Sep 26 2014Harrison went 3-for-5 with his 37th double and three runs scored Thursday against the Braves.Harrison is riding a 13-game hitting streak toward the end of the season. He's no flash in the pan -- dating back to July 27, Harrison has hit a ridiculous .358 with eight homers, 21 doubles, three triples and a .959 OPS. And at .319 for the year, he's your current National League batting leader.

Sep 11 2014Harrison had a rough night Thursday, going hitless in five at-bats from the leadoff spot. He's proven to be susceptible to breaking pitches in the dirt recently. Harrison is 3-for-14 since returning from an ankle surgery. The third baseman will likely find his groove shortly in a dream season, but he has expanded his strike zone in recent days.
Sep 9 2014Harrison (ankle) is in the lineup Tuesday in Philadelphia. After three games missed due to a left ankle injury, Harrison has been cleared to lead off and man the hot corner for the Pirates. Sep 8 2014Harrison (ankle) remains out of the lineup Monday, the Pittsburgh Tribune's Travis Sawchik reports. He will miss his third straight game with the ankle injury, but remains day-to-day. Brent Morel will get the start at third base. Harrison has been fantastic this season in both counting stats (13 home runs and 17 steals) and batting average (.315) and will be one of the more debatable and intriguing players heading into next season based on the out-of-nowhere nature of his 2014 campaign.
Sep 8 2014Harrison (ankle) is available as a pinch-hitter Monday, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. While returning to pinch-hitting duty would normally seem to signal a player is close to returning to everyday action, manager Clint Hurdle didn't offer any guess as to when Harrison might eventually slot back in at third base. Brent Morel will join the lineup for the third straight game with Harrison limited to reserve duties.
Sep 7 2014Harrison (ankle) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.Manager Clint Hurdle delayed putting out a lineup in case Harrison's ankle was healthy enough to award him a start, but he ended up going the conservative route. Harrison seems to be getting closer to a return, but his status for the next game will likely depend on how he feels during Monday's batting practice. Jose Tabata will make his third straight start in right field in Harrison's stead, while Brent Morel mans the hot corner.
Sep 6 2014Harrison exited Saturday's rain-postponed game against the Cubs in the 11th inning with a left ankle injury, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. It's not clear what type of setback Harrison suffered Saturday, but he's apparently been dealing with lingering soreness in his ankle for a few weeks. He's unlikely to play in the Pirates' scheduled game Saturday evening, but the Pirates have yet to provide an official update on his status.
Sep 6 2014Although manager Clint Hurdle said the team would know more Sunday about Harrison's (ankle) status, the third baseman remarked that he was "fine" after sitting out the Pirates' second game Saturday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review."Maybe it's not as bad as it looked," Hurdle said. "We'll know more Sunday." Harrison was available off the bench for Game 2, but the Bucs didn't need him in a 5-0 victory.
Sep 2 2014Harrison, who will bat leadoff Tuesday, leads the National League with a .311 batting average.Harrison, who ranks sixth in the NL with a .511 slugging average and seventh with an .856 OPS, also has swiped 17 bags in 23 attempts. He's arguably been Pittsburgh's most important player, even moreso than the reigning NL MVP, Andrew McCutchen. Harrison has played in more than five games at second base (16 games), shortstop (seven), third base (50) and in the outfield (56), showing off his versatility on the field and in fantasy leagues.
Aug 29 2014Harrison was 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI in Pittsburgh win over the Reds on Friday night. He was a home run short of the cycle, and the Pirates' super utility man boosted his average to .308 while driving in his 45th run. He played third base in this one, but qualifies at multiple positions in most fantasy formats which only hikes his value.
Aug 22 2014Harrison went 3-for-5 with a double, homer and five RBI from the leadoff spot Friday in Milwaukee. All of his runs batted in came with two outs. The homer was his first since Aug. 2 and 11th overall. Harrison entered Friday mired in a 6-for-30 slump but worked his way out of it in a hurry.
Aug 21 2014Harrison is batting .167 (6-for-30) in his last seven games.Manager Clint Hurdle recently committed to Harrison as the Bucs' primary third baseman for the rest of 2014, calling him the team's "top option" at third base. He's expanded the strike zone in recent days, likely in an effort to help Pittsburgh halt a seven-game losing streak (which ended Wednesday). Harrison ranks sixth in the NL with a .304 batting average, but every time he slumps fantasy owners might wonder if his hot run is over. With Andrew McCutchen back, Harrison won't feel the pressure of carrying the team's offense.
Aug 17 2014Manager Clint Hurdle said that Harrison was fine after the infielder/outfielder slid awkwardly into second base Sunday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison has dealt with injuries to his left ankle throughout 2014, so there's still a chance he's not yet out of the woods. He started at shortstop over the weekend, going 2-for-5 with a run scored in an extra-inning loss Sunday.
Aug 15 2014Harrison had a rough night Friday, going 0-for-5 and popping out to end the game with the tying run on third base.Harrison has fallen back to earth since his 13-game hitting streak, batting just .200 (5-for-25) over his last six games. He's still got a strong .308/.346/.496 line on the season though, and should remain a fixture on top of the Pirates' lineup as they chase a postseason berth.
Aug 9 2014Harrison (ankle, hand) will bat leadoff and start in left field Saturday against the Padres. His status for Saturday was questionable, given that he suffered ankle and hand injuries Friday night. Fortunately for fantasy owners, the hot-hitting Harrison will give it a go against San Diego on Saturday.
Aug 8 2014Harrison, who went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the Pirates' win on Friday night, while have his ankle checked out, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The early indications here point to the ailment being a minor one for Harrison, who played all nine innings Friday night while pushing his season line to .314/.351/.509 with the multi-hit performance.
Aug 2 2014Harrison missed hitting for the cycle by a triple Saturday, going 3-for-4 with his 10th homer of the season.Harrison saw each of his last seven hits go for extra bases before singling Saturday night. He has five home runs in his last seven games, boosting his batting average back up to .303. Harrison continues to prove he's more than just an average utility player.
Jul 30 2014Harrison homered for the fourth straight game in a 1-for-5 effort Wednesday against the Giants.Harrison was leading off and playing third base for the Pirates Wednesday. The long ball was his ninth of the season. Before this streak, Harrison was in a 29-game homerless drought. The 27-year-old is 8-for-17 (.470) over the four game period.
Jul 29 2014Harrison went 2-for-3 with his seventh home run of the season, a walk and two runs in a 5-0 win over the Giants on Monday.Harrison continues to be a spark atop the Pirates lineup. With Starling Marte on the disabled list with a concussion, the he was starting in left field and leading off Monday. Harrison is slashing .298/.336/.460 with 34 RBI, 40 runs and 13 stolen bases in 285 at-bats.
Jul 28 2014Harrison went 4-for-6 with a homer and two stolen bases Sunday against the Rockies. With Starling Marte (concussion) not guaranteed to return from the DL when first eligible Wednesday and Pedro Alvarez struggling defensively at third base, Harrison is set to continue receiving good playing time in Week 18.
Jul 25 2014Harrison will start in left field Friday and bat second against the Rockies. With Colorado throwing three southpaws over the weekend, Harrison could see steady playing time. His batting average likely peaked at .319 on June 17th. Since then, he's hit .250/.287/.352 with one homer, 13 RBI and eight stolen bases in 117 plate appearances.
Jul 20 2014Harrison reached base three times Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a walk while stealing his 10th and 11th bases of the season. At some point the Pirates need to consider moving Gregory Polanco out of the leadoff spot. If and when that happens, look for Harrison to see some of those opportunities. Of course, Harrison is looking for playing time on a regular basis and his starting spot isn't guaranteed. So long as he continues to hit, however, the Pirates will likely fit him into the lineup.
Jul 19 2014Harrison came off the bench Friday, pinch-hitting a sacrifice fly and then taking over for Pedro Alvarez at third base. With Alvarez making his major league-leading 21st error against Colorado, there's a chance Harrison might find himself at the hot corner more frequently. That said, it was telling that he wasn't in the starting lineup, even though the Rockies were throwing a southpaw.
Jul 18 2014Harrison is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.Named to the NL All-Star team as a backup after hitting .297/.333/.450 with five homers and nine stolen bases in the first half, Harrison will find himself back on the bench for the team's first game after the break. He was out of the lineup for four of the final 13 games heading into the intermission, and it seems he'll continue to be deployed in a semi-regular role between left field, second base and third base.
Jul 16 2014Harrison's playing time has dropped in July, a month during which he's hitting just .256/.273/.372 in 43 at-bats.The all-star hasn't started in four of the team's last 13 games. With Starling Marte expected to return from the bereavement list Friday, playing time might become even more difficult for Harrison. He'll need to force manager Clint Hurdle's hand to continue seeing steady time -- otherwise, he could become the Bucs odd man out until an injury gives him another steady opportunity.
Jul 12 2014Harrison is out of the Pirates' lineup Saturday against the Reds, Tom Singer of MLB.com reports.Harrison will park it for the second time in five games and for the fourth time this month, with Travis Snider stepping in to man left field. Although Harrison has cooled off (.216/.237/.324 in July), his overall numbers are still strong and it seems likely manager Clint Hurdle will continue to play him more often than not.
Jul 8 2014Harrison is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.Tuesday marks Harrison's third time out of the lineup in the team's last seven games, and manager Clint Hurdle can afford to continue sitting the 27-year-old occasionally with Neil Walker back. Harrison isn't exactly forcing the skipper's hand right now, as he's just 5-for-24 with one extra-base hit so far this month, but he'll still likely be in the lineup more often than not moving forward.
Jul 3 2014Harrison is out of the Pirates' lineup again Thursday, Tom Singer of MLB.com reports. It marks Harrison's second straight day on the bench, but there has been no word of a recent injury and he did make a pinch-hit appearance in Wednesday's game. While Harrison did deal with an ankle injury in mid-June, it seems manager Clint Hurdle just prefers the track records of Starling Marte (4-for-7) and Neil Walker (2-for-6) against right-hander Brandon McCarthy. Look for Harrison to rejoin the mix shortly.
Jun 30 2014Harrison went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Sunday against the Mets.He showed no signs of slowing down in June, slashing .317/.358/.465 in 110 plate appearances. Harrison will likely play 4-5 games per week even when all of Pittsburgh's regulars are healthy at the same time. In past seasons, the versatile infielder/outfielder has gone on hot streaks for a couple weeks at a time, but 2014 has proven to be different -- he's hit .319 since May 3.
Jun 27 2014Harrison was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a game winning RBI double in the 11th inning of Pittsburgh's win over the Mets on Friday night. The Pirates are getting healthy so at bats are becoming harder to find for Harrison, but he remains red hot (.303 with 24 RBI) and is likely to fill the role of super utility player as long as he is producing. He entered this game as a pinch hitter and stayed in the game on his way to being the hero so look for him in the lineup as often as they can make room for him.
Jun 26 2014Harrison will get the start in left field Thursday, the Pirates' official Twitter feed reports.Starling Marte (concussion/finger) remains day-to-day, so Harrison continues to find himself in the starting lineup. He could revert back to a super utility role once Marte is healthy, but his excellent play of late will make it difficult for manager Clint Hurdle to not try to find ways to get him at-bats.
Jun 25 2014Harrison went 1-for-4 with a stolen base -- his sixth of the season -- in Wednesday's loss to the Rays.Starting in place of the injured Starling Marte (head), Harrison was batting second and manning left field Wednesday afternoon. Marte passed his initial concussion tests, so Harrison figures to be used in a super utility role in the near future with the recent return of Neil Walker from the disabled list.
Jun 22 2014Harrison, who went 2-for-4 with his fifth homer and three RBI against the Cubs on Saturday, will bat second and play second Sunday afternoon in Chicago.Every time it appears the J-Hay magic might be running out -- he'd gone hitless in 13 at-bats before Saturday's outburst -- he turns his game up a notch. Harrison is hitting .307/.349/.483 in 176 at-bats.
Jun 19 2014Harrison went 0-for-5 against the Reds with an intentional walk Thursday. He still has 10 hits in his last 23 at-bats. Harrison will likely see some type of reduction in playing time when Neal Walker (appendectomy) returns, but the second baseman isn't expected back until Monday or Wednesday.
Jun 14 2014Harrison (ankle) went 3-for-5 against Miami on Saturday in his first start since Tuesday. It looks like he's lost his spot atop of the Pirates' lineup due to the promotion and emergence of Gregory Polanco. Harrison hit fifth Saturday as the team stacked its righties against lefthander Randy Wolf. He'll continue to see steady work with Neil Walker (appendectomy) for at least another week.
Jun 14 2014Harrison (ankle) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Marlins, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. After missing two starts with left ankle discomfort, Harrison will slot back into the lineup Saturday -- at second base and the five-hole in the batting order -- against lefty Randy Wolf. Harrison was batting leadoff for the Pirates before going down with the injury, but Gregory Polanco may stick atop the order for the time being.
Jun 13 2014Harrison (ankle) will miss his second consecutive start Friday against the Marlins, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison is available off the bench, but the recently recalled Michael Martinez will play second base. Harrison is batting .303/.348/.492 in 132 plate appearances since May 3.
Jun 13 2014Harrison (ankle) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Marlins, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. While not in the lineup, Harrison is listed on the lineup card as a reserve, so continue to consider him day-to-day for the time being. The 26-year-old was forced from Wednesday's game with left ankle discomfort, but regular playing time -- between left field and second base -- will be available to him if he can return in short order.
Jun 12 2014Harrison (ankle) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.Left ankle discomfort forced Harrison from Wednesday's game in the fourth inning, and while the extent of the injury is uncertain, the 26-year-old will miss at least one start as a result. He is just 3-for-23 over the past week and Starling Marte has been heating up, but Harrison owns a .288/.331/.473 batting line for the season and should continue to see frequent playing time.
Jun 11 2014Harrison snapped an 0-for-11 slide with a seventh-inning double Tuesday.Despite his recent lack of production, he has continued to sting the ball. Harrison's natural position is second base -- where he primarily played in the minors -- and he figures to see everyday at-bats with Neil Walker (appendectomy) out until sometime around the All-Star break. Harrison qualifies at corners, middle infield and in the outfield in some leagues, adding to his fantasy versatility.
Jun 11 2014Harrison left Wednesday's game against the Cubs due to left ankle discomfort.Harrison was replaced by Clint Barmes in the fourth inning. His status will likely be updated following the game, but consider Harrison day-to-day until further notice. He walked and scored a run before exiting.
Jun 9 2014With outfielder Gregory Polanco getting called up to the majors, and second baseman Neil Walker (appendectomy) being placed on the 15-day disabled list, Harrison will likely see his role with the Pirates change.Polanco is expected to garner most of the playing time in right field, while Walker's injury creates an opening at second base. Harrison has played 47 career games at the keystone and figures to help fill the void left by Walker. Given how well he's been hitting over the last few weeks, it wouldn't be surprising if Harrison were to serve as the regular second baseman in Walker's absence. The Pirates also have the option to go with an all-defense middle infield of Jordy Mercer and Clint Barmes.
Jun 7 2014Harrison went 1-for-5 with two runs scored Friday, extended his hitting streak to 10 games (16-for-40).With no signs of slowing down yet, he continues to bat atop of the Pittsburgh batting lineup. Harrison is making it difficult for the team to even consider taking him out when Gregory Polanco arrives in the big leagues.
Jun 3 2014Harrison has started each of Pittsburgh's last 14 games, putting up a .305/.349/.424 line as the team's leadoff hitter. The common school of thought is that Harrison will cool off and lose playing time upon Gregory Polanco's arrival. It's also possible that Harrison sticks in the lineup with Starling Marte losing playing time, however. Manager Clint Hurdle recently stuck with Harrison despite an 0-for-11 mini-slump, showing surprising confidence in the spark plug. He doesn't have a track record of starting in the majors, but he continues to give Pittsburgh a boost atop the lineup.
May 31 2014Harrison went 2-for-5 against the Dodgers on Saturday, starting at third base with Los Angeles pitching southpaw, Hyun-jin Ryu.Harrison's impressive run in May could be nearing an end. The Pirates will likely recall prospect Gregory Polanco sometime in the next two weeks, limiting Harrison's opportunities. He figures to continue starting against left-handed pitching, but the Bucs have faced southpaws fewer times (36) than any team in the majors since the start of 2013.
May 30 2014Harrison collected a pair of RBI singles in Pittsburgh's 6-3 win Thursday. He batted leadoff against a right-handed starter as manager Clint Hurdle continues to go with the hot hand. Harrison started out Week 9 in a 1-for-13 funk, making Thursday's performance more encouraging to fantasy owners.
May 28 2014Harrison will leadoff and start in right field Wednesday afternoon against the Mets.Harrison is hitless in his last nine at-bats, though he's still hitting the ball hard. With righty Bartolo Colon on the mound, it's somewhat surprising that Harrison (and not lefty Travis Snider) will start in right field, but the move shows the confidence that manager Clint Hurdle currently has in him.
May 26 2014Harrison went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.Harrison has given the Pirates some needed stability at the top of the order since displacing Travis Snider in right field, with Sunday's performance raising his season average to .304. He should enjoy an everyday role with the Pirates until uber-prospect Gregory Polanco gets the call to the big leagues, likely in mid-to-late June.
May 26 2014Since May 2, Harrison is slashing .345/.390/.582 in 59 plate appearances as Pittsburgh's primary right fielder. The utilityman has served as short-term fantasy plug in recent seasons, but it remains to be seen what manager Clint Hurdle will do with him when he inevitably cools off. General manager, Neal Huntington, did say on Sunday that the organization may have "under-appreciated" Harrison in the past. There's been talk that he could take over at shortstop, but Hurdle reiterated that both Clint Barmes and Jordy Mercer (even though he supposedly plays for his offense) are in little jeopardy of sitting for Harrison because of their superior defense. Most likely, Harrison will return to his utility role but there's no question he's the hottest player on the Pirates entering Week 8.
May 25 2014Harrison is in the lineup for the seventh straight game Sunday against the Nationals, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. It's safe to say at this point that Harrison has put a stranglehold on the starting right field job over the likes of Jose Tabata and Travis Snider, with the 26-year-old even earning an appointment to the top spot in the lineup during his run of starts. The favorable position in the batting order has helped him gather five runs over his previous six games, while he's also been able to maintain an impressive .293 batting average for the season.
May 22 2014Harrison batted leadoff for the ninth time in 2014 on Wednesday, going 0-for-3 with a pair of walks. The utility man served as Pittsburgh's right fielder, throwing out a runner at home plate. Harrison nearly hit his third home run, but Nelson Cruz caught his shot up against the left field wall. Look for Harrison to continue seeing his fair share of playing time (at least until Gregory Polanco's recall), as he's provided a spark atop the lineup. He's slashing .286/.328/.508 with two homers and two stolen bases in 63 at-bats.
May 19 2014Harrison went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Yankees. As recently as a week ago, Harrison appeared to be in command of the starting right field job for the Pirates, but it appears manager Clint Hurdle has since turned those duties back over to Travis Snider. Sunday's start was Harrison's first in four games.
May 7 2014Harrison is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.Harrison started the last four games in right field, but he will get a day off after going 0-for-4 Tuesday. Travis Snider will get the start in Harrison's place.
May 5 2014Harrison, who hit two triples in four at-bats Sunday, batted out of the leadoff spot for the second straight game against the Blue Jays. The team hasn't committed to using Harrison at the top of the order -- or even playing him every day, but he served as a spark plug over the weekend. He could take some right-handed bats away from Jose Tabata while he's hot. Harrison started Sunday in right field and later moved to shortstop. Most likely, the Pirates will continue to mix and match with Harrison and use him in a utility role once he cools off.
May 5 2014Harrison will make his third straight start in right field for the Pirates for their game Monday against the Giants. After neither Jose Tabata or Travis Snider provided much of an offensive spark out of right field in recent weeks, Harrison appears to have leapfrogged both on the depth chart following two consecutive two-hit games. He'll bat leadoff for the Pirates on Monday while Starling Marte looks to regain his hitting stroke in the bottom half of the lineup.
Apr 18 2014Harrison stroked a two-run, pinch-hit homer Thursday after going hitless in his first eight plate appearances of 2014.The utility man will continue to sporadically come off of the bench, although Thursday's effort could help him see more playing time in the short run.
Mar 26 2014Harrison's versatility in both the infield and outfield has likely earned him a spot on Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster. He doesn't play enough to roster in some fantasy leagues, but keep in mind that he posted a .981 OPS against left-handed pitching in 2013 -- albeit in only 40 at-bats.
Sep 7 2013Harrison went 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored against St. Louis on Friday.Harrison entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and promptly hit a two-run shot to help continue the Pirates comeback. Unfortunately the ninth inning part of the rally came to a halt when Harrison flied out to end the game. He doesn't normally have much power or speed really and he doesn't see a lot of regular playing time, so there's not much he really offers fantasy teams at such a crucial time of the season.
Aug 20 2013Harrison went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Monday in a rare right field start. He was filling in for the injured Starling Marte (hand) but will likely return to the bench Tuesday. Harrison has played all over the field for Pittsburgh in August but is batting just .185 (5-for-27).
Aug 20 2013Harrison entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and hit a three-run triple.Harrison pinch hit for Garrett Jones with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. He tripled to deep right-center field, scoring Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez and Russell Martin. In 56 MLB at-bats this season, Harrison is hitting .250 with 10 RBI.
Aug 6 2013Harrison hit a pinch-hit, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday against Miami.A banner moment for Harrison, who hasn't had too many of them in the bigs despite the (very) occasional big game. He's weird like that -- a good-but-not-great hitter for a middle infielder in the minors, Harrison tends to punctuate long hitless stretches with enormous games.
Jul 25 2013Harrison went 3-for-5 with his first homer of the year and four RBI in Thursday's loss to the Nats.He bounced around the field -- starting in right, moving to second, then returning to right -- but it didn't affect him at the plate in this one. Harrison had received just 16 at-bats over 18 games previously this year, but he's got a little bit of pop and speed that he occasionally flashes when given the chance.
Jul 25 2013Harrison will bat seventh and start in right field Thursday afternoon against Washington.Harrison gets a rare start due to Jose Tabata's forearm contusion. He's 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI against Nats' starter, Gio Gonzalez.
Jul 9 2013Harrison was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.Harrison is back in the majors after another short stay at Triple-A. On the season at Triple-A, Harrison has hit .317 with four home runs and 34 RBI to go along with 19 stolen bases. He is capable of playing both middle infield positions as well as in the outfield and third base in a pinch.
Jul 2 2013The Pirates optioned Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.Harrison was sent down to make room on the roster for Tuesday's starting pitcher, Brandon Cumpton. Harrison has already been up and down several times this season, so there's a good chance he is back with the Pirates before the season ends.
Jun 28 2013Harrison was recalled by the Pirates on Friday.Harrison will be up for his fourth stint with the major league club this season, with catcher Tony Sanchez sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis. The 25-year-old has gone just 2-for-11 with the Pirates this year, but he's slashing .316/.371/.504 down at Indy and could see occasional time at the middle infield spots.
May 31 2013Harrison was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.Since his May 7 recall to Pittsburgh, Harrison has appeared in five games with the big club while logging just three at-bats. The team decided it was time to bring up and outfielder, so they added Alex Presley to the active roster and sent Harrison packing back to Indianapolis.
May 27 2013Harrison was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, MLB.com's Tom Singer reports.Harrison will give the Pirates an extra bench bat and potential DH candidate for the first two games of the series with the Tigers, though he's not in the lineup Monday. He was batting .279/.357/.393 with 14 stolen bases in 35 games.
May 8 2013The Pirates optioned Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. The Pirates brought up Harrison just one day before, but they decided to add relief pitcher Duke Welker to the roster after using five relievers in Tuesday's game. Harrison could be called up again shortly if Jose Tabata (hamstring) ultimately lands on the disabled list.
May 7 2013Harrison has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.Harrison will take the roster spot of James McDonald, who was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday. Harrison has a slash line of .293/.398/.387 in 75 at-bats in Triple-A Indianapolis this season.
Apr 14 2013The Pirates sent Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday to make room for pitcher Phil Irwin.Harrison will be back with the Bucs at some point, but the team might keep him at Triple-A when Brandon Inge is activated -- something which could happen in the near future.
Apr 10 2013Harrison went 1-for-4 with an RBI while starting at third base Wednesday afternoon. It was Harrison's first start of the season, as the Pirates seem to be giving Pedro Alvarez an opportunity to face more left-handed starters to begin the season. If Alvarez continues to struggle against southpaws, Harrison could begin to see a start or two per week as the season progresses, but there's no indication that the Pirates plan on making that adjustment at the present time.
Mar 27 2013Harrison has earned the Pirates' final roster spot heading into Opening Day, the Pirates' Web site reports.Harrison will serve as a backup at multiple infield spots and in the outfield. He hit .233 in 249 at-bats last season but probably won't see that much action again -- barring injury. His enthusiasm on the bench is likely greater than the value he provides fantasy owners.
Sep 24 2012Harrison will start at shortstop Monday and bat second, according to the Pirates' Twitter feed.He had four hits Sunday and is known as a fairly streaky hitter, making him a decent start Monday. Harrison has his problems defensively at short, however, and likely won't help starting pitcher Kyle McPherson too much.
Sep 23 2012Harrison went 4-for-6 with two runs scored Sunday against Houston. He collected more hits against the Astros than he had for the entire month of September (3), prior to Sunday. Rookie Brock Holt has seen most of the starts at second with Neil Walker (back) ailing, but Harrison could earn another start or two with his four-hit day.
Sep 23 2012Harrison will start at second base Sunday against the Astros, according to the Pirates' Twitter feed.Harrison is 3-for-20 with seven strikeouts in September. He's been given chances to expand his role in 2012 but his play at shortstop has proven less than proficient. The gutsy utilityman will likely continue in a similar role going forward, if the Pirates keep him around.
Aug 27 2012Harrison will start at shortstop Monday and bat seventh against the Cardinals, according to the Pirates' Twitter Feed.Harrison went 2-for-4 Sunday and has one hit in two career at-bats against St. Louis starter, Kyle Lohse.
Aug 16 2012Harrison figures to see steady playing time for however long Neil Walker is out with a dislocated finger.Harrison might not be a long-term answer but he has the ability to put up a decent average for a week or two at a time for fantasy owners.
Aug 15 2012Harrison will bat seventh and play third base Wednesday, Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Harrison, who's started two times in the last nine days, will get a chance against lefty Clayton Kershaw. Surprisingly, Harrison is hitting just .211 against southpaws as compared to .250 versus righties.
Aug 4 2012Harrison will start at shortstop and hit eighth Saturday in Cincinnati, according to the Pirates' Twitter Feed.Harrison is a below average fielding shortstop, but with fly ball pitcher James McDonald on the mound Pittsburgh wants a bat in the lineup better than Clint Barmes.
Jul 16 2012Harrison will start in right field and bat second Monday in Colorado, according to the Pirates' Web site.He has just three hits in his last 22 at-bats since June 23. Harrison committed a couple costly errors in his last couple starts, limiting his opportunities in the eyes of manager Clint Hurdle. Look for an aggressive game from Harrison on Monday against the Rockies.
Jun 24 2012Harrison is starting at second base and batting second in the lineup Sunday against Detroit, the Pirates' official Twitter reports.Neil Walker will get a day off Sunday, giving Harrison the unenviable task of facing off against the Tigers' Justin Verlander. It will be the fifth straight start for Harrison, who has played all over the field for the Pirates.
Jun 11 2012Harrison started for just the second time in June on Sunday, going 0-for-2 before being lifting for a pinch-hitter.He hit both balls hard but came away with nothing to show for his efforts. Harrison is hitless in seven at-bats since June 1st, though he could see more at-bats in the next week with the addition of the designated hitter to the lineup.
Jun 3 2012Harrison entered Sunday's game as a late-inning replacement at third base, but didn't bat against the Brewers. His pace starting nearly every game has slowed in recent days. Despite a strong showing in the middle of May, Harrison is being used more on a matchup basis than anything else. He's gone 1-for-16 since May 25.
May 31 2012Harrison is hitless in his last 10 at-bats and may find his playing time reduced a bit going forward. The Pirates have started Matt Hague six straight times at first base, pushing to Garrett Jones to right field, where Harrison was seeing time. The team also recalled infielder Jordy Mercer. Mercer started at shortstop Wednesday and can play the same infield positions Harrison plays.
May 27 2012Harrison went 0-for-3 and a walk with two runs scored Sunday, but hasn't convinced GM Neal Huntington that he has the potential to play every day."At some point the advanced scouts will figure out that you don't need to throw strikes to Josh," Huntington said candidly Sunday afternoon. Harrison is a bad-ball hitter that needs to continue growing and maturing, according to the Pirates GM. Harrison saw his 10-game hitting streak end Friday. The versatile infielder/outfielder is one of the few Pittsburgh batters to consistently put wood on the ball, but will need to continue fighting through the reputation that he projects as a reserve player.
May 26 2012Harrison went 1-for-4 with his first two stolen bases of the season Friday.Surprisingly, Harrison averaged 20 steals in parts of four minor league seasons. If he continues to see steady time -- and there's no reason to believe he won't -- then he could be a plus in that category. Harrison, who started in right field for the fourth straight game, extended his hitting streak to 10 games, during which he's gone 13-for-38 (.342).
May 22 2012Harrison went 1-for-4 with a run scored Monday against the Mets. His first career start in right field made him look like a second baseman playing right. While he won't make anyone forget Roberto Clemente, Harrison now has a seven-game hitting streak, going 9-for-26.
May 21 2012Harrison will bat second and make his first start in right field Monday.Harrison owns a six-game hitting streak, going 8-for-22 over that span. The jack-of-all-trades has started at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and now in right in 2012. He also broke up Justin Verlander's no-no over the weekend as a DH.
May 18 2012Harrison singled up the middle with one out in the ninth inning Friday to break up Justin Verlander's no-hit bid.Not a spectacular night in itself, but he now has five hits over the past three games, and with the Pirates' woeful offense, that should get him more playing time in the foreseeable future.
May 17 2012Harrison will start at shortstop Thursday against the Nationals.Despite a .222 batting average (in only 36 at-bats), Harrison has three hits, including a dinger, in his last eight at-bats. Moreover, starting shortstop Clint Barmes is batting .155 with a 1:32 BB:K. Harrison won't win any Gold Gloves, but he's capable of going on an offensive run.
May 17 2012Harrison went 2-for-3 with a run Thursday in Washington. He has two straight two-hit games. With the addition of a designated hitter Friday in Detroit, there's good reason to believe manager Clint Hurdle will find a place in Pittsburgh's lineup once again for Harrison.
May 16 2012Harrison went 2-for-4 with three RBI and his first homer of the year Wednesday against the Nationals.Harrison started at third base with tough lefty Gio Gonzalez on the mound. In an interesting move, Harrison shifted to left field late in the game. It's unlikely he sticks in left, but the move only helps his versatility and potential for playing time.
Apr 30 2012Harrison will start at shortstop Monday in Atlanta, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Harrison will make his second start at shortstop. Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Sunday that Harrison will likely get sent out to Triple-A sometime soon for regular at-bats.
Apr 13 2012Harrison will make his first start at shortstop Friday afternoon.Harrison played second base and went 0-for-3 on Thursday in Los Angeles. The infielder has never batted against San Francisco's Friday starter, Matt Cain. His eligibility at shortstop might come in handy in very deep fantasy leagues.
Mar 22 2012Harrison had two hits Wednesday, giving him a .579 batting mark in 19 at-bats. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison, who has six doubles and a triple, is in a fight primarily with Yamaico Navarro for a bench spot. Harrison hasn't done particularly well trying out a new position, shortstop, while the team has given Navarro a look in the outfield. The competition may come down to the final roster cut.
Mar 15 2012Harrison has six hits in 10 at-bats after lashing a two-run triple Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison looks like a decent bet to make the club as a bench player. He hit .272 as a rookie last year and flirted with the .300 mark. Harrison doesn't have much power and compiled a 3:24 BB:K ratio in 195 at-bats, but he could come in handy as a waiver-wire pickup during the 2012 campaign.
Mar 6 2012Harrison returned to action Monday after sitting Sunday with a sore elbow. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Bucs gave him a chance at shortstop and Harrison played error-free. He also stroked a hard-hit double, showing that his sore elbow is better.
Mar 4 2012Harrison will sit out Sunday after getting hit by a pitch on his elbow Saturday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move is considered precautionary. Much like last season, Harrison enters 2012 as a backup candidate at second base and third. With a few injuries he could see considerable playing time once again.
Sep 25 2011Harrison went 4-for-5 Saturday, missing the cycle by a home run. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison has little power but puts consistent wood on the ball, something few Pirates hitters do. As a result, the organization will have the rookie play at shortstop over the winter to increase his chances of sticking in the majors.
Sep 7 2011Harrison will see his playing time decrease following Pedro Alvarez's recall. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison is expected to start Wednesday. He's done better with opportunity than has Alvarez, but Pedro represents the future for the Pirates.
Sep 1 2011Harrison is batting .326/.348/.558 in 43 at-bats since his return from Triple-A in mid-August. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There's a school of thought that says Harrison should've been playing third all of August instead of a struggling Pedro Alvarez, but the team was looking for power. Alvarez obviously remains the future for Pittsburgh at third base, but Harrison has done well whenever he's played.
Aug 28 2011Harrison will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday afternoon against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has only two walks in 125 at-bats but has struck out just 15 times. Harrison has given Pittsburgh a spark but ultimately projects as a second baseman in the majors, though Neil Walker is firmly entrenched at the Keystone corner.
Aug 27 2011Harrison went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Pirates' win over the Cardinals on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three hits were singles, but the effort marked a career day for Harrison, whose previous best was two hits/two RBI. He had 33 doubles last year for Double-A Altoona, but that power has yet to manifest at the major league level. Still, he has made six consecutive starts at third, and that playing time should continue until Pedro Alvarez returns (if he returns) in September.
Aug 23 2011Harrison went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Pirates' loss to the Brewers on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison's first career home run was one of the few bright spots of an 11-4 loss. He has split time with Brandon Wood at third base since the Pirates sent Pedro Alvarez to Triple-A Indy, and that should continue to be the case until Alvarez returns.
Aug 16 2011Harrison will get the starting nod at third base Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The start will be Harrison's first since July 19. The infielder tore up Triple-A in August, batting .435 with seven extra-base hits and a couple stolen bases. He could be in line for regular playing time in the short term if the Bucs decide to demote Pedro Alvarez.
Aug 14 2011The Pirates recalled Harrison on Saturday, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writer Rob Biertempfel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison was called up in response to Derrek Lee (broken hand) landing on the 15-day DL.
Jul 21 2011The Pirates optioned Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, according to the team's official Twitter page. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison started just two games after the All-Star break, so he will head back to Indianapolis for the time being. Though Harrison may be called up again at some point, the team will almost surely bring up Pedro Alvarez first if they need help at third base.
Jul 20 2011Harrison made just his second start Tuesday since the All-Star break, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He only played because Chase d'Arnaud (neck) was unable to go at shortstop, moving Brandon Wood from third to short. Harrison figures to take the bench when d'Arnaud comes back, something that could happen Wednesday. With Pedro Alvarez raking at Triple-A, Harrison ultimately could find himself back in the minors.
Jul 9 2011Harrison went 3-for-4 Friday night against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game was Harrison's first since Monday, when he suffered a bloody nose during a collision at home plate. Harrison has filled in nicely with a .299/.308/.658 line in 77 at-bats, but there's a good chance he loses his playing time when Pedro Alvarez returns right after the All-Star break.
Jul 8 2011Harrison (head) is back in the lineup Friday night against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison injured his head in a collision at the plate during a July 4 game against Houston. The former high school running back has recovered and will hit seventh against Rodrigo Lopez on Friday.
Jul 7 2011Harrison (head) sat out Wednesday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Brandon Wood going 0-for-4 against Houston on Wednesday and Harrison getting three straight days off, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back at third base when the Pirates host the Cubs on Friday night.
Jul 6 2011Harrison (head) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, according to the Pirates' official Twitter page. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Pirates have determined that Harrison did not suffer a concussion in Monday's game, but he still has not started since. Harrison remains day-to-day.
Jul 5 2011Harrison (head) does not have a concussion and is available off the bench Tuesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Wood is starting at third base Tuesday, but we could see Harrison back at the hot corner as early as Wednesday.
Jul 4 2011Harrison (head) will undergo a medical exam Tuesday to determine if he sustained a concussion in a collision at home plate during Monday's game, MLB.com's Jennifer Langosch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Expect an update on Harrison's status once the results of the exam become available.
Jul 3 2011Harrison isn't in the starting lineup for Sunday's game at Washington, the Pirates official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Wood will take over at third. With Chase d'Arnaud playing short in Ronny Cedeno's (concussion) absence, Wood and Harrison will be getting the reps at third.
Jul 2 2011Harrison will make his second consecutive start at second base Friday night. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will once again fill in for starter Neil Walker, who is recovering from a cranky back and a cranky bat.
Jul 1 2011Harrison got the nod at second base Thursday night and went 1-for-4 with a run scored. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison flew out to the right field wall and turned a single to left-center field into a hustling double. Starting second baseman, Neil Walker, sat out with a cranky back and bat. Harrison could get another start Friday, though the Bucs will be back in the NL and without the DH. Pittsburgh plays in a doubleheader Saturday, and Harrison will likely start in one of those two games.
Jun 30 2011Harrison is sitting on the bench for the second straight game Wednesday since his recall from Triple-A Indy. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Chase d'Arnaud will get the start at third base. d'Arnaud has already made two errors in four games -- if that keeps up then Harrison will likely form a platoon with him until Pedro Alvarez (quad) returns in a couple weeks.
Jun 29 2011Harrison has been recalled by the Pirates, the Bucs' official Twitter account reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Chase d'Arnaud getting a look from the big league club, Harrison's playing time may be more sporadic this time around as it's likely that he'll handle a utility role rather than receive regular at-bats from the third base spot.
Jun 24 2011The Pirates have optioned Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis, the team's official Twitter feed reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the move, Chase d'Arnaud is expected to join the Bucs on Friday. Harrison hit .283 with four RBI in 60 at-bats for the Pirates since joining the team at the end of May. The team decided to keep Pedro Ciriaco on the roster, apparently because he has the ability to play shortstop while Harrison does not -- even though Ciriaco has only six at-bats with Pittsburgh since May 25.
Jun 22 2011Harrison went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and an error Monday night. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He looked overmatched for probably the first time in his big league stint against the Orioles. Pedro Ciriaco -- making a rare appearance -- took over for Harrison midway through the blowout. Harrison has performed admirably since his recall, and it will be interesting to see how well he deals with his first bit of adversity.
Jun 19 2011Harrison's spot in the lineup strengthened following the Pirates' announcement that Pedro Alvarez probably won't return until after the All-Star break. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison is hitting .286 with little pop and not very much speed, but he figures to start the majority of games at third base for the next three weeks, barring a trade or minor league promotion.
Jun 18 2011Harrison will bat seventh and start at third base Friday in Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went 1-for-3 with an RBI in his return from an oblique injury Thursday. It appears Harrison will return to his everyday starter role he had prior to getting hurt -- at least until Pedro Alvarez returns (though that's weeks away).
Jun 17 2011Harrison (oblique) will start Thursday at third base and bat sixth against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison has been out since Saturday. He's hitting .300 (12-for-40) since coming up May 31, and has given the team a spark with his enthusiastic style of play.
Jun 16 2011Harrison (oblique) should avoid the DL and could be available Thursday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was able to work out prior to Wednesday's game, so look for him to continue getting a few starts per week at third base in the absence of Pedro Alvarez.
Jun 15 2011Harrison (oblique) said he felt good after playing catch Tuesday, according to ROOT sports in Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will get a chance to swing the bat during early batting practice Wednesday. Harrison said if that goes well then he'll be ready to play whenever manager Clint Hurdle gives him the nod.
Jun 13 2011The Pirates are hoping Harrison (oblique) doesn't miss more than a couple days, the Pirates' Web site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: "It's not too bad," Harrison said of the injury. "You just don't want a couple day thing to turn into a couple weeks." Harrison, who didn't swing a bat Sunday, will be evaluated on a daily basis. There's a chance he could go on the disabled list if he doesn't improve in the next few days.
Jun 6 2011Harrison's back at third base on Sunday after having the day off on Saturday, the Pirates official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He appears to have mostly taken over for Pedro Alvarez (quad), at this point. Harrison certainly doesn't have Alvarez's power potential, but he does offer some contact ability and stolen-base potential. He's someone to monitor -- as an injury replacement, if nothing else.
Jun 3 2011Harrison will make his fourth straight start Friday at third base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison will again bat second in the order. He's hitting .308 (4-for-13) with two runs and two RBI in three games since his recall and figures to see consistent at-bats until Pedro Alvarez comes off of the DL.
Jun 2 2011Harrison will likely get at least a few more games in at third base, since the Pirates aren't close to activating Pedro Alvarez from the DL, Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison comes with a reputation as a decent hitter for average and so far he has three hits in his first eight major-league at-bats.
May 31 2011Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI Tuesday in his major league debut. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison puts the ball in play, something most Pirates batters have trouble doing on a regular basis. He'll almost get another start Wednesday after his impressive debut. Harrison won't likely start once Pedro Alvarez comes back, but he could stick on the roster as a backup with Steve Pearce sidelined.
May 30 2011Manager Clint Hurdle said he'd like to see Brandon Wood's bat "get going" at third base, but would play Harrison if Wood's struggles continue, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wood will start over Harrison at third base Monday. Hurdle said that, if and when Harrison plays, it will be at third base, second base or shortstop, in that order.
May 29 2011The Pirates will officially purchase Harrison's contract Monday and promote him to the majors to replace the injured Steve Pearce, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Harrison isn't a high-ceiling prospect, but he's having a really nice campaign at Triple-A Indianapolis, hitting .321/.361/.455 there with eight stolen bases in 13 attempts. He was spending most of his time at third base there, and he could get a decent amount of playing time there with both Pearce and Pedro Alvarez out.
Jun 9 2003Harrison has started seven of eight games since his recall, hitting .241 (7-for-29) with a double and three RBI. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's fit in nicely with Pittsburgh. Despite less than glowing numbers, Harrison has at least one hit in all but one game. With Pedro Alvarez (quad) out for at least a couple more weeks, the 5-foot-8 righty figures to see consistent at-bats.
