Jun 18 2024Crawford will start at shortstop and bat seventh Tuesday versus the Marlins, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was originally slated to make his first career start at third base, but with Masyn Winn (illness) being a late scratch Tuesday, Crawford will slot in at shortstop, his career-long position. The 37-year-old has appeared in two games in June, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Jun 16 2024The Cardinals announced that Crawford was removed from Sunday's 2-1 win over the Cubs in the eighth inning due to a left hamstring cramp, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The fact that the Cardinals are classifying Crawford's injury as a cramp rather than a strain bodes well for his chances of avoiding a stint on the 10-day injured list, though he still may need a few days off to recover. Crawford has been a lightly used bench piece all season, as he was making just his 12th start of the campaign Sunday. He went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and a run scored before exiting the contest midway through his eighth-inning plate appearance, when he appeared to tweak the hamstring on a big swing.
May 31 2024Crawford went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford hadn't played since May 19, but he got the start at shortstop to give Masyn Winn a breather Friday. The homer was Crawford's first extra-base hit of the campaign, though he's logged just 37 plate appearances over 12 contests through the end of May. The 37-year-old shortstop is firmly in a bench role without enough playing time to make an impact in most fantasy formats.
May 12 2024Crawford is slashing .107/.194/.107 over 10 games with the Cardinals this season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was signed to serve as backup to rookie Masyn Winn, who has been one of the Cardinals' better hitters. As such, Crawford has seen minimal playing time. All three of his hits this season have been singles, and he's also posted a 3:11 BB:K. The veteran shortstop is unlikely to see a larger role unless Winn suffers an injury or enters a severe slump.
Mar 26 2024Crawford (hand) is starting at shortstop and batting eighth for the Cardinals in Tuesday's exhibition game versus the Cubs, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford missed a little time with some soreness in his hand after being hit by a pitch, but he's on track for Opening Day now after getting one final tune-up Tuesday. The veteran infielder is poised to serve as Masyn Winn's backup at shortstop in 2024.
Mar 25 2024Crawford (hand) took batting practice Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As long as he doesn't experience any lingering effects with the hand injury he suffered just over a week ago, Crawford will return to play in the Cardinals' exhibition finale Tuesday against the Cubs. Assuming health, he's slated to serve as a backup shortstop for the Cards this season.
Mar 21 2024Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Crawford (hand) is aiming to return to game action this weekend, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford hasn't played since being hit on the hand/wrist area by a pitch Sunday, but his return to the Grapefruit League lineup looks to be imminent. The 37-year-old is slated to back up Masyn Winn at shortstop for the Cardinals this season.
Feb 27 2024Crawford is hoping to be ready to play in Grapefruit League games by mid-to-late March, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford officially inked his one-year, $2 million contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday and will ramp up on the back fields for a bit before being thrown into game action. He shouldn't need too many spring at-bats in order to get ready for Opening Day. Crawford has indicated a willingness to play some second and/or third base for St. Louis, if needed, although president of baseball operations John Mozeliak has indicated the plan is to use Crawford only as a backup at shortstop, Brenden Schaeffer of KMOV reports.
Feb 26 2024Crawford signed a contract with the Cardinals on Monday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The longtime San Francisco Giant will head to St. Louis where he will back up youngster Masyn Winn at shortstop. Crawford -- who turned 37 last month -- remains a good defender but has managed a lowly .216/.293/.332 over the last two seasons. The addition of Crawford could indicate some skepticism of Tommy Edman's (wrist) readiness for Opening Day, as he had been projected to be Winn's backup.
Nov 7 2023Crawford's agent, Joel Wolfe, said Tuesday that his client intends to continue his playing career in 2024, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford batted just .194/.273/.314 over 320 plate appearances with the Giants in 2023 and will turn 37 years old in January, but Wolfe told reporters at the GM Meetings in Arizona that "several teams have called" him about the veteran shortstop since he officially became a free agent earlier this week. Wolfe went on to note that Crawford "would consider" playing second or third base, so perhaps he'd be open to operating in a utility role in 2024 if such an opportunity were to present itself.
Oct 1 2023Crawford (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff Sunday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 36-year-old landed on the shelf with a hamstring strain Sept. 21 but will rejoin the lineup for the final game of the regular season, and potentially his 13-year career with the Giants. Crawford has a .197/.276/.319 slash line in 93 games this season and is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.
Sep 29 2023Crawford (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was placed on the IL on Sept. 21 with a right hamstring strain, but he's pushing for reinstatement to the roster when first eligible, with his return coinciding with the season finale. Assuming Crawford endures no setbacks with his hamstring and is activated Sunday, he could be making the final start of his 13-year tenure with the Giants. The 36-year-old is set to become a free agent this winter, and while he has yet to decide whether he wants to continue playing in 2024, he likely won't have much of a market if he chooses to forgo retirement after producing a lowly .595 OPS over 316 plate appearances thus far in 2023.
Sep 21 2023Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right hamstring strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford suffered the injury Wednesday in what could wind up being his final game in a Giants uniform. The 36-year-old impending free agent is eligible to be activated Oct. 1, but that is the last day of the regular season and it's unclear whether he'd be healthy anyway. Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald have both been brought up from Triple-A Sacramento to cover at shortstop down the stretch. Paul DeJong was given his release.
Sep 20 2023Crawford was removed from Wednesday's game in Arizona due to right hamstring tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford may have tweaked his hamstring on a second-inning groundout, as Paul DeJong took over at shortstop for the Giants before the bottom of the third. This could wind up being a season-ending injury for Crawford even if it proves to be relatively minor, as the Giants only have 10 games left to go and have probably fallen too far back in the NL wild-card standings.
Sep 18 2023Crawford went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 11-10 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford came through in a big way with a three-run blast off Matt Koch in the sixth for his seventh home run of the year and his first since Aug. 1. Crawford has just two extra-base hits in 40 plate appearances in September as he continues to hold down a part-time role. The 36-year-old has struggled to a slash line of .196/.276/.319 and will look to provide any spark he can as the Giants make a push for a wild card spot.
Sep 16 2023Crawford will be on the bench for the evening portion of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored in the afternoon game. The 36-year-old won't be asked to start two games in one day, so it will instead be Paul DeJong who handles shortstop in the nightcap.
Sep 13 2023Crawford is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Guardians, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll yield to Paul DeJong at shortstop versus a lefty, as Crawford often does. Crawford has been helpless versus both righties (.584 OPS) and lefties (.589 OPS) this season.
Sep 8 2023Crawford is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Paul DeJong will cover shortstop and bat eighth against left-hander Ty Blach. Crawford is slashing just .200/.271/.320 in 281 total plate appearances this year and continues to sit versus southpaws.
Sep 6 2023Crawford is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has been in a strict platoon at shortstop with Paul DeJong since returning from the injured list last week. It will be DeJong at short for this one versus rookie lefty Jordan Wicks.
Sep 4 2023Crawford is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It will be Paul DeJong getting the start at shortstop versus southpaw Justin Steele. Crawford returned from the injured list Friday and has been on the bench both times the Giants have faced a lefty.
Sep 2 2023Crawford isn't in the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Blake Snell on the mound for San Diego will force the lefty-hitting Crawford to the bench. Paul DeJong will start at shortstop instead and bat seventh.
Sep 1 2023Crawford (forearm) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will start at shortstop and bat eighth for the Giants on Friday night against the Padres following a two-week absence to heal a minor left forearm strain. The 36-year-old has batted just .194/.264/.318 across 270 plate appearances when healthy this season.
Aug 30 2023Crawford (forearm) is expected to be with the Giants in San Diego this weekend and could come off the injured list then, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford did some hitting without issue Tuesday and will have another hitting session Wednesday. It sounds like he will be activated without going out on a rehab assignment first, and with rosters expanding Friday, he could rejoin the club without a corresponding move. Crawford has been out since mid-August with a left forearm strain.
Aug 28 2023Crawford (forearm) is expected to resume hitting Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has not hit since landing on the injured list earlier this month, but it appears he is nearly ready to do so. He is eligible to be activated Tuesday, so if everything checks out after he gets his cuts in there is a chance he could be reinstated the same night.
Aug 23 2023Crawford (forearm) believes he'll be ready to return from the 10-day injured list right around when he's first eligible on Aug. 29, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Giants manager Gabe Kapler was a bit more cautious, saying Wednesday only that he thought there was enough time left in the season for Crawford to contribute. Crawford landed on the IL over the weekend with a strained left (non-throwing) forearm. The team has signed Paul DeJong as a stopgap at shortstop.
Aug 22 2023An MRI taken Monday on Crawford's left forearm revealed a mild strain, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That's better than some of the other possible diagnoses, but there remains no timetable as to when the veteran shortstop might be able to return to the Giants' active roster. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday and San Francisco signed Paul DeJong to a major-league contract Tuesday.
Aug 21 2023Crawford (forearm) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The MRI should shed light on the severity of Crawford's left forearm strain while also helping to inform a treatment plan for the shortstop, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. For whatever length of time Crawford is sidelined, the Giants are expected to turn to Johan Camargo and Casey Schmitt as their primary options at shortstop.
Aug 20 2023The Giants placed Crawford on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left forearm strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will be eligible for activation beginning Aug. 29, but given that the injury is to his throwing arm, he could be at risk of missing well beyond the minimum 10 days. The 36-year-old has endured a rough 2023 campaign, slashing .194/.264/.318 with a career-worst 26.7 percent strikeout rate across 270 plate appearances. Casey Schmitt and Johan Camargo will likely be the primary replacements at shortstop while Crawford is on the shelf.
Aug 19 2023Crawford isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been a tough season for Crawford so far, highlighted by the fact that he is just 1-for-28 since Aug. 5. Johan Camargo will fill in Saturday and bat eighth as the Giants search for more production at shortstop.
Aug 16 2023Crawford is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rays, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays are starting a right-hander (Aaron Civale), but the lefty-hitting Crawford will get a breather for the day game after a night game while he remains in the midst of a 1-for-25 slide at the dish. Johan Camargo will occupy shortstop Wednesday while Crawford sits.
Aug 12 2023Crawford isn't in the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Rangers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Andrew Heaney set to start for the Rangers on Saturday, Crawford will stay put in the Giants' dugout for the beginning of the game. Thairo Estrada will shift to shortstop in Crawford's absence, allowing Mark Mathias to start at the keystone and bat ninth.
Aug 7 2023Crawford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will join fellow left-handed hitters Joc Pederson and LaMonte Wade on the bench while the Giants stock up on some extra right-handed bats to counter Angels southpaw Patrick Sandoval. Mark Mathias and Thairo Estrada will serve as the Giants' starters in the middle infield while Crawford sits.
Aug 3 2023Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Casey Schmitt is playing shortstop and batting ninth as Isan Diaz covers second base and hits eighth. Crawford has enjoyed a productive week so far, but he's slashing just .215/.286/.355 through 239 total plate appearances this year at age 36.
Aug 1 2023Crawford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has gone 4-for-12 with three RBI over three games since he returned from a knee injury that sent him to the injured list. The shortstop has a .214/.286/.348 slash line with six homers, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored and three stolen bases over 68 contests this season. With Marco Luciano back at Triple-A Sacramento, Crawford should retain his spot as the Giants' primary shortstop at least until Thairo Estrada (hand) is activated.
Jul 29 2023The Giants reinstated Crawford (knee) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford wasn't expected to be back until Sunday, but the veteran shortstop will return to the Giants' bench a day early while Marco Luciano draws the start Saturday against Boston. It remains to be seen what role Crawford fill with Luciano, who is the Giants' top infield prospect, now up with the big club. Brett Wisely was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.
Jul 28 2023Crawford (knee) is expected to return to the Giants' lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After reporting improvement during the week, Crawford cleared his final hurdle Friday, logging at-bats against a minor-league pitcher. It sounds like he will return after missing just over the minimum, though his exact role is to be determined in light of Marco Luciano's promotion. Luciano was reportedly taking grounders at second base Friday.
Jul 20 2023Crawford said Thursday that he's already shown improvement and won't require a cortisone shot for his inflamed left knee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford landed on the injured list Wednesday but may be sidelined for only the 10-day minimum, given that he seems to be making good progress in his recovery. Casey Schmitt is expected to serve as the Giants' primary shortstop for however long Crawford is on the shelf.
Jul 19 2023Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to July 17, with left knee inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will be sidelined for at least the next eight days with another leg injury. He's slashed just .207/.285/.333 in 64 games (222 plate appearances) this season when healthy.
Jul 17 2023Crawford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll join fellow left-handed-hitting regulars LaMonte Wade and Joc Pederson on the bench for the series opener while the Reds bring southpaw Brandon Williamson to the hill. Casey Schmitt will step in for Crawford at shortstop.
Jul 14 2023Crawford (hamstring) is starting at shortstop and batting ninth in his return to the lineup Friday in Pittsburgh, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford missed the final game of the first half with a tight left hamstring, but he's feeling well enough to play after resting over the All-Star break. He and his Giants teammates are going up against southpaw Rich Hill.
Jul 9 2023Crawford (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was pulled from Saturday's game with hamstring tightness and will be sidelined for the final game before the All-Star break Sunday, though manager Gabe Kapler said an appearance as a pinch hitter is possible, per Slusser. Casey Schmitt will take over at shortstop while Brett Wisely mans the keystone.
Jul 8 2023Crawford exited Saturday's game against the Rockies with left hamstring tightness, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford suffered the injury while running to first base in the sixth inning. Manager Gabe Kapler downplayed the significance of the injury, but Crawford will likely be held out Sunday in anticipation of the All-Star break.
Jul 4 2023Crawford (side) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will start at shortstop and bat eighth versus the Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. He was held out of the starting lineup Monday due to side discomfort but did appear off the bench for two at-bats.
Jul 3 2023Crawford (side) isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford suffered the injury on a dive during Sunday's game against the Mets, so the team may be taking a cautious approach, especially with the All-Star break on the horizon. Casey Schmitt draws the start at shortstop and is set to bat ninth in Crawford's stead.
Jul 2 2023Manager Gabe Kapler said after Sunday's loss to the Mets that Crawford is dealing with a side injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford appeared to sustain his injury while making a diving play in the eighth inning, but he was able to remain in the game. He went 1-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in the defeat. The 36-year-old will be re-evaluated Monday and should tentatively be considered day-to-day.
Jun 17 2023Crawford went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 15-0 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has just two multi-hit games in his last 11, but he's batting .344 (11-for-32) in that span. The shortstop has started to get his season back on track with the improved hitting in June, though he'll still need to stay sharp to keep Casey Schmitt from eating into his playing time. For the year, Crawford is at a .226/.303/.365 slash line with four home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored and three stolen bases over 45 games.
Jun 11 2023Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford had started at shortstop in four of the past five games, but he'll give way to rookie Casey Schmitt for the series finale. Though Crawford still grades out well defensively, his middling .192/.276/.350 slash line over 134 plate appearances has made it difficult for the Giants to justify giving him an everyday role at this stage of his career. Expect him to continue to see part-time duties behind Schmitt while the Giants are at full strength in the infield.
Jun 9 2023Crawford went 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's victory over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pinch-hitting for Casey Schmitt in the ninth inning, Crawford delivered an RBI double off Pierce Johnson to tie the game at 4-4 before scoring on Joc Pederson's two-out base hit. The 36-year-old Crawford had been stuck in a 1-for-13 slump coming into Thursday's contest while retreating to a part-time role. Overall, he's slashing just .195/.283/.354 with four homers, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored through 127 plate appearances this season.
Jun 4 2023Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford had started in five of the past six games and should enjoy a semi-regular role while Thairo Estrada (wrist) is on the shelf, but the veteran shortstop hasn't made a strong case to deserve steady playing time when the Giants are at full strength. Over 119 plate appearances on the season, Crawford is maintaining a .629 OPS -- the lowest mark of his career since his 2011 rookie campaign.
May 31 2023Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will head to the bench after he started each of the Giants' last three games, going 4-for-8 with two doubles and two walks over that stretch. Even with the recent hot run at the plate, Crawford is still maintaining a lowly .639 OPS for the season, and it's unclear if the Giants remain committed to him as a regular in the middle infield. Rookie Casey Schmitt appears to be locked in as an everyday option at one of the two middle-infield spots, leaving Crawford and Brett Wisely to vie for most of the opportunities at the other spot.
May 29 2023Crawford went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 14-4 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford's produced just three multi-hit efforts in 31 contests, and this was his first since his return from a calf injury. The shortstop has increasingly found himself on the bench -- he sat out three games in a row, all against right-handers, from May 25-27. The lefty hitter should have a clearer path to playing time while Thairo Estrada (wrist) is on the injured list, as it opens up the opportunity for rookie Casey Schmitt to start at second base. A drop in playing time for Crawford is justified, as he's still slashing a paltry .202/.288/.364 with four home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored, three stolen bases and four doubles this year even after Monday's big game.
May 27 2023Crawford is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Crawford is batting just .172/.252/.323 so far to begin his age-36 season. This marks his third consecutive absence against right-handed pitching, so it looks like Crawford is being phased out as the primary shortstop in favor of Casey Schmitt. Brett Wisely is at second base again Saturday in place of Thairo Estrada (wrist), who was placed on the 10-day injured list.
May 26 2023Crawford isn't starting Friday against the Brewers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford's .575 OPS on the season has now caused him to miss three of the Giants' last four games. In his place, the team will opt to start the much-hotter bat of Casey Schmitt, who will hit seventh.
May 20 2023Crawford will sit Saturday against the Marlins, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants faced five straight righties after Crawford returned from a hamstring strain, and the veteran started against four of them. He'll hit the bench here against lefty Braxton Garrett, with Casey Schmitt starting at shortstop.
May 16 2023Crawford is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford returned from his left calf strain over the weekend, but the Giants will ride with hot-hitting youngster Casey Schmitt at shortstop Tuesday. J.D. Davis is at third base and Thairo Estrada is playing second.
May 14 2023San Francisco activated Crawford (calf) off the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in the series finale, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford ended up missing just a little over the minimum 10 days while recovering from his left calf strain. The veteran should settle back in as the Giants' everyday shortstop, at least against right-handed pitching. The Giants optioned infielder David Villar to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.
May 13 2023Crawford (calf) is likely to come off the injured list before Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will miss a little over the minimum 10-day stint after suffering a right calf strain. The veteran shortstop likely will handle shortstop duties against righties, but he hasn't been playing much against southpaws. That likely continues after Crawford's activation.
May 9 2023Crawford (calf) said Tuesday that he's hoping to return during the Giants' series in Arizona which begins this Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford ran in the outfield Monday and has also been doing a range of other baseball activities. He was placed on the 10-day injured list May 1 with a right calf strain and the Giants have since promoted prospect Casey Schmitt to help fill the gap at shortstop. Schmitt can also play second base and third base, so he might stick around through Crawford's return.
May 8 2023Crawford (calf) was spotted running in the outfield at Oracle Park on Monday and has started to ramp up baseball activities, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco report. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list May 1 due to a right calf strain, though the Giants quickly noted that it could be a quick trip to the IL for the infielder. Depending on how the injury responds to an uptick in activity, it's possible Crawford could be back in the starting lineup sometime this week.
May 1 2023Crawford said Monday after being placed on the injured list that his MRI showed his calf strain to be worse than anticipated, but he's hopeful that he can return from the IL in the minimum 10 days, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus -- or mild -- strain after leaving Saturday's 16-11 loss to the Padres with the injury. The veteran shortstop isn't expected to require a rehab assignment before being activated from the IL, likely around the middle of May. Thairo Estrada should pick up most of the starts at shortstop while Crawford is on the shelf.
Apr 30 2023Crawford (calf) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford exited Saturday's contest with right calf tightness and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale, though manager Gabe Kapler said the veteran infielder could still be available off the bench, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Thairo Estrada will move to shortstop while Brett Wisely starts at the keystone for San Francisco.
Apr 29 2023Crawford left Saturday's game against the Padres with right calf tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He went 1-for-2 with a solo homer before exiting. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has been replaced by Brett Wisely, with Wisely playing second base and Thairo Estrada sliding over to shortstop. Crawford should be considered day-to-day until there are more updates, but there's a strong chance he will sit out Sunday's series finale against San Diego while recuperating.
Apr 27 2023Crawford went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford seems to be taking advantage of the larger bases -- he's up three steals in 20 contests, a pace that would allow him to challenge his career-high 11 thefts from 2021. The shortstop will need to get on base at a higher clip to keep it up, as he's slashing a meager .159/.237/.304 with three home runs, nine RBI and five runs scored over 76 plate appearances.
Apr 6 2023Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday due to mild left forearm tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Thairo Estrada is starting at shortstop in the Giants' series finale Thursday afternoon against the White Sox, but Crawford is expected to return for Friday's home opener versus the Royals. It's notable that this tightness is in Crawford's non-throwing arm, so there's likely not as much concern about aggravating the injury in the field.
Apr 1 2023Crawford went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The homer and the steal were the first of the year for the veteran shortstop. Crawford saw his production fade badly last season after he set career highs with 24 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 2021, so Saturday's performance is an encouraging sign the 36-year-old might be able to regain some of that ground.
Mar 17 2023Crawford (knee) will resume baseball activities over the weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has been battling some left knee soreness for the last several days but appears to be making some progress. He should be able to return to Cactus League action sometime next week, and the Giants anticipate him being ready to play shortstop Opening Day.
Mar 14 2023Crawford received a cortisone injection Sunday for his sore left knee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The hope is that the cortisone shot will help Crawford get over the hump and return to Cactus League action within a week or so. If it doesn't, the veteran shortstop will be at risk of missing the beginning of the 2023 regular season. He hasn't appeared in an exhibition game since last Friday.
Mar 13 2023The Giants announced Monday that Crawford is experiencing left knee discomfort and will be held out of baseball activities for the next week, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford's week-long shutdown period wouldn't be a major concern if it came during the early portion of spring training, but now that he's battling a knee issue with Opening Day just two and a half weeks away, the veteran shortstop's availability for the start of the season is suddenly more of a question mark. Thairo Estrada will start at shortstop in Monday's Cactus League game against the Padres, and he could continue to see more work at the position for the duration of spring training in preparation for the possibility of Crawford opening the season on the injured list.
Dec 21 2022Crawford will remain at shortstop in 2023 after Carlos Correa's agreement with the Giants fell through, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants had an introductory press conference scheduled for Correa on Tuesday, but something came up during his physical examination, and the 28-year-old is now joining the Mets. Crawford was slated to play a position other than shortstop for the first time in his MLB career, but he'll instead remain at the position for the final year of his contract in 2023. The Giants could technically still sign another shortstop, but a notable acquisition is unlikely with all the top options already off the market. Crawford appeared in 118 games last season and played through knee inflammation, and he had a .231/.308/.344 slash line with nine home runs and 52 RBI.
Dec 15 2022The Giants informed Crawford that Carlos Correa will be the team's primary shortstop after Correa agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract Tuesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Correa has been a plus defender his entire career and has a Gold Glove to his name, so it's hardly a surprise he'll stick at shortstop as the new face of the franchise. Still, a position change for Crawford -- who has won four Gold Gloves in his own right -- is notable given he's exclusively played shortstop during his 12-year MLB career. Crawford was limited to 118 games last season by knee inflammation and had a .231/.308/.344 slash line, but he should still fill the strong side of a platoon at either second or third base for the Giants in 2023.
Oct 4 2022Crawford is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will take a seat for Tuesday's contest with lefty Sean Manaea pitching for San Diego. Thairo Estrada will move to shortstop while Wilmer Flores mans the keystone.
Oct 1 2022Crawford will sit Saturday against Arizona, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants are all but officially eliminated from postseason contention, though the 35-year-old shortstop still finds himself playing a heavy role, starting nine straight games prior to Saturday's contest. Thairo Estrada will take his spot this time around.
Sep 24 2022Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford's homer was his ninth of the year and his first since Sept. 6. The shortstop has started to sit versus left-handed pitchers with some regularity, as his sharp defense hasn't been enough to overcome his poor hitting. The 35-year-old is slashing .227/.307/.348 with 48 RBI, 45 runs scored and a stolen base in 109 contests overall.
Sep 22 2022Crawford went 2-for-5 with one double, one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford led off the fourth inning with a double before coming around to score on a Jason Vosler triple. The shortstop came back the very next inning with a two-out RBI single to put the Giants up 4-0. Crawford has now hit safely in three straight games after registering just five hits in September leading up to that stretch.
Sep 20 2022Crawford isn't starting Tuesday against Colorado, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed bat of Crawford will begin Tuesday's game in the dugout with the left-handed arm of Kyle Freeland starting for the Rockies. Thairo Estrada will take his spot at shortstop, moving Wilmer Flores to second base, David Villar to designated hitter, and giving J.D. Davis a chance to start at first base while batting fifth.
Sep 18 2022Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a string of five consecutive starts, the lefty-hitting Crawford will head to the bench for the series finale while southpaw Andrew Heaney toes the rubber for the Dodgers. Thairo Estrada will move over from his usual spot at the keystone to replace Crawford at shortstop.
Sep 11 2022Crawford isn't in the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford went 1-for-4 with a strikeout Saturday and will be out of the lineup for the fifth time in the last seven games. Thairo Estrada is starting at shortstop and batting sixth.
Sep 9 2022Crawford isn't in the lineup Friday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has gone 4-for-18 with a homer, four RBI and three runs over his six games since the start of September, but he'll be on the bench for the third time in the last four games. Thairo Estrada is starting at shortstop and batting fifth.
Sep 7 2022Crawford isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford recorded hits in four of the last five games and went 4-for-15 with a homer, four RBI and three runs during that time. Thairo Estrada is starting at shortstop and batting fifth Wednesday.
Sep 6 2022Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford got the Giants within two runs with his sixth-inning blast, but those were their last runs of the game. The shortstop has delivered at least one RBI in four of his last five games, though his homer was his first since Aug. 20. He's slashing .228/.309/.350 with eight homers, 45 RBI, 40 runs scored, one steal, 13 doubles and two triples through 98 contests.
Sep 4 2022Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will join fellow lefty-hitting lineup regulars Mike Yastrzemski and Joc Pederson on the bench for the series finale while lefty Ranger Suarez toes the rubber for Philadelphia. Thairo Estrada moves over from his usual post at the keystone to replace Crawford as the Giants' shortstop.
Aug 31 2022Crawford was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Padres ahead of the third inning, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford struck out for the second out in the bottom of the second inning and was talking with the third base umpire prior to being ejected for the third time in his career. It seems unlikely that Wednesday's ejection will lead to further discipline, so he should be available for Friday's series opener against the Phillies.
Aug 28 2022Crawford went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford went 8-for-30 (.267) with one home run, one double, four RBI and two runs scored during the Giants' eight-game road trip that concluded Sunday. He was their most effective hitter in this loss. For the season, the veteran shortstop has struggled to a .225/.306/.347 slash line with seven home runs, 41 RBI, 36 runs scored and one stolen base through 90 contests, though he's still seeing a near-everyday role when healthy.
Aug 20 2022Crawford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double in a 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Rockies on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford tied the game with a solo shot off Colorado reliever Dinelson Lamet in the seventh inning and did so again with a two-out double in the ninth against closer Daniel Bard. The long ball is Crawford's seventh of the year, and he's slashing .226/.310/.358 with 36 runs and 39 RBI in 84 games.
Aug 16 2022Crawford went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in a 2-1 win against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford and the entirety of San Francisco's offense was held in check early until the shortstop aided a seventh inning rally with a walk and connected on a walkoff two-run home run in the ninth off Arizona closer Ian Kennedy. The 35-year-old has been hot thus far in August, slashing .296/.433/.481 with three extra-base hits, though the long ball was his first since June 3.
Aug 15 2022Crawford is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks, according to Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has gone 7-for-24 (.292) since being activated from the injured list earlier this month, but manager Gabe Kapler decided to give him the night off after starting the last three games. Thairo Estrada will start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Aug 10 2022Crawford will sit Wednesday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will get a day off after he went 4-for-15 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored over four games since returning from the 10-day injured list Aug. 6. Thairo Estrada will shift to shortstop while Wilmer Flores enters the lineup at second base and bats second in the series finale.
Aug 6 2022Crawford (knee) was activated from the injured list Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants' lineup for Saturday is still pending, but Crawford and Joc Pederson (concussion) will likely be in there to face right-hander Adam Oller after both were reinstated to the active roster. Following a resurgent campaign last year, Crawford's numbers have plummeted again in his age-35 season (.215/.297/.332 with five home runs and one stolen base).
Aug 3 2022Crawford (knee) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list for Saturday's game at Oakland, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran shortstop began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday and is poised to rejoin the Giants for this weekend's two-game series against the A's. With Thairo Estrada (concussion) also on the IL, Dixon Machado should continue to operate as San Francisco's primary shortstop until Crawford officially rejoins the active roster.
Jul 31 2022Crawford (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford began a running program this week and will play five innings in Sacramento on Tuesday. He'll likely be able to ramp up his workload Wednesday and will be in the mix to rejoin the Giants as early as Thursday against the Dodgers. The team has a scheduled day off Friday, so manager Gabe Kapler said that the club could wait to activate Crawford until Saturday. Dixon Machado and Jason Vosler will serve as the Giants' top two options at shortstop while Crawford remains sidelined.
Jul 29 2022Crawford (knee) is nearly pain-free and could be close to starting a rehab assignment, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was cleared for a running program at the beginning of the week and it sounds like Crawford could head out on a rehab assignment in a week or less. The veteran shortstop hit .215/.297/.332 with five home runs and one steals in 72 games before he got injured.
Jul 25 2022Crawford (knee) was cleared to begin a running program Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has already been spotted taking part in infield work, and this is another positive sign. However, the team has yet to comment on when he could go out on a rehab assignment.
Jul 23 2022Crawford (knee) took groundballs Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is the first time he has fielded groundballs since getting a cortisone shot last weekend. It's unclear if Crawford will go on a rehab assignment, but it sounds like he is at least a week away from returning.
Jul 21 2022Crawford (knee) will throw and do some light activity Thursday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford got a cortisone shot in his left knee Sunday and will resume activity for the first time since being placed on the injured list. Assuming he ramps up without issue, Crawford could return July 26 when first eligible.
Jul 18 2022Crawford underwent an MRI on Sunday that revealed nothing more than bruising and inflammation to his right knee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the knee issue was still deemed significant enough for the Giants to place Crawford on the 10-day injured list Saturday, the veteran shortstop should have a good chance at being available July 26 when first eligible for activation. Thairo Estrada is expected to serve as the Giants' primary shortstop while Crawford is on the shelf.
Jul 16 2022Crawford landed on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation Saturday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford had been back from a previous trip to the injured list with the same problem for less than two weeks, struggling to a .407 OPS over that stretch. Per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants believe Crawford may need to miss more than the minimum 10 days to get fully healthy. Evan Longoria (oblique) returned from the injured list to take his place on the roster, while Thairo Estrada will slide over from second base to become the primary shortstop in Crawford's absence.
Jul 12 2022Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against Arizona, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will head to the bench for the second time in the past three games since the Diamondbacks will send out a left-handed starter (Dallas Keuchel). Thairo Estrada will shift to shortstop while Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone.
Jul 10 2022Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is one of several lefty-hitting regulars who will take a seat with southpaw MacKenzie Gore taking the hill for San Diego. Along with Crawford, Brandon Belt (knee), LaMonte Wade, Luis Gonzalez and Joc Pederson are getting the day off.
Jul 5 2022Crawford (knee) went 1-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford supplied the Giants' lone extra-base hit in the contest. The shortstop needed just a minimum stay on the injured list with left knee inflammation, and he should be good to go for a near-everyday role now that he's active again. The 35-year-old is slashing .225/.312/.353 with six home runs, 30 RBI, 26 runs scored, a stolen base, nine doubles and two triples through 64 games.
Jul 1 2022Crawford (knee) is feeling better and aims to return when first eligible Tuesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford hit the injured list Sunday with left knee inflammation, but the issue evidently wasn't particularly serious. He hit on the field and took grounders Friday for the first time since landing on the injured list, and it looks like he won't miss much more time as long as he can avoid setbacks.
Jun 26 2022The Giants placed Crawford on the 10-day injured list Sunday with left knee inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was out of Saturday's lineup but appeared to be past the knee injury after returning from a two-game absence Friday, but it appears he was never fully healthy. According to Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com, manager Gabe Kapler said he's optimistic that Crawford will be ready to return from the IL when first eligible for reinstatement July 5. Thairo Estrada and Donovan Walton should see playing time at shortstop while Crawford is sidelined.
Jun 25 2022Crawford is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford missed two games with a bruised left knee before rejoining the lineup Friday, and he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a hit-by-pitch. Thairo Estrada will shift to shortstop Saturday while Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone.
Jun 24 2022Crawford (knee) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford missed the past two games after suffering a bruised left knee Tuesday, but he's tentatively in the lineup for Friday's contest. The 35-year-old will need to go through a pre-game workout before being fully cleared to take the field, but as of now he's expected to play versus Cincinnati.
Jun 23 2022Crawford (knee) remains out of the lineup Thursday against Atlanta, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford left Tuesday's game with a bruised left knee after an awkward slide at home plate and didn't participate in Wednesday's contest. While an MRI confirmed that Crawford has avoided structural damage, he'll sit for at least one more game, though manager Gabe Kapler suggested the 35-year-old could be available off the bench, according to Slusser. Thairo Estrada will again handle shortstop duties Thursday, with Wilmer Flores starting at second base.
Jun 22 2022Crawford, who isn't starting Wednesday against Atlanta, had an MRI on his bruised left knee come back clean, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran shortstop is expected to be sidelined for a day or two after suffering the injury while sliding into home plate Tuesday, but it's now confirmed he's avoided a more serious issue. Thairo Estrada is starting at shortstop Wednesday while Crawford should be considered day-to-day.
Jun 21 2022Crawford will undergo a precautionary MRI after leaving Tuesday's game against Atlanta with left knee contusion, though he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 35-year-old sustained the injury while making an awkward slide at home plate, but it appears he's not dealing with a significant injury. Crawford may be sidelined for a day or two but should return to action soon, barring some unexpected results from the MRI.
Jun 20 2022Crawford isn't starting Monday's game against Atlanta, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will get a breather after he hit .233 with two doubles, five RBI and a run over the last nine games. Thairo Estrada is taking over at shortstop while Wilmer Flores starts at second base.
Jun 10 2022Crawford (quadriceps) went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 7-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was limited to pinch hitting duties in the last two contests after suffering a minor right quadriceps injury Tuesday. He played the full game at shortstop Friday, so he should be considered fine going forward, though he may continue to see the occasional day off for rest. The 35-year-old is slashing .224/.307/.361 with five home runs, 25 RBI, 24 runs scored, a stolen base, six doubles and two triples through 205 plate appearances.
Jun 9 2022Crawford (quadriceps) isn't starting Thursday against the Rockies, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to right quadriceps tightness, but he went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter. He'll be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Thursday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him available off the bench once again. Donovan Walton will shift to shortstop while Thairo Estrada starts at second base.
Jun 8 2022Crawford (quadriceps) could be held out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was scratched from Wednesday's starting nine due to right quadriceps tightness after going through a pre-game workout, though he still entered the game as a pinch hitter. If the 35-year-old is withheld from Thursday's lineup, he'll likely again be available off the bench.
Jun 7 2022Crawford was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rockies with right quadriceps tightness, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 35-year-old went 0-for-2 during Tuesday's contest before being lifted for a pinch hitter during the fifth inning. The severity of the injury remains unclear, and Crawford should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.
Jun 5 2022Crawford is not in Sunday's lineup against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is hitting .242 with one home run and zero steals over his last 10 games. Donovan Walton will start at shortstop and hit ninth.
Jun 3 2022Crawford went 1-for-5 with a grand slam and an additional RBI in Friday's 15-6 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford opened the scoring with an RBI on a groundout in the first inning. He then finished off the Giants' run production with his seventh-inning grand slam, which was his first home run since May 23. The shortstop had gone 0-for-11 in his last four contests before sitting out due to an illness Thursday. For the season, he's slashing .215/.301/.343 with five homers, 24 RBI, 23 runs scored, a stolen base, five doubles and a triple in 47 games.
Jun 2 2022Crawford was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Phillies due to a non-COVID-19 illness, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was penciled in to start at shortstop, per usual, but the ailment will result in him stepping out of the lineup. Donovan Walton will shift to shortstop while Thairo Estrada starts at the keystone.
May 31 2022Crawford will sit Tuesday against the Phillies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford finds himself on the bench for just the fourth time all season. He owns a .591 OPS over his last 14 games and has gone hitless in his last two, so it does look as though he could use a day off. Donovan Walton will start at shortstop.
May 25 2022Crawford isn't starting Wednesday against the Mets, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has gone 4-for-10 with a homer, three RBI and three strikeouts over the last two games, and he'll get a breather in Wednesday's series finale against the Mets. Donovan Walton will start at shortstop and bat ninth.
May 23 2022Crawford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford gave the Giants an early lead with his two-run shot to center field in the second inning, but New York went on to score 13 straight runs to notch a blowout victory. The shortstop had been struggling entering the game, going 1-for-12 over his previous three contests. After hitting a career-high 24 long balls last season, Crawford has just four through 39 contests in 2022.
May 18 2022Crawford went 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-7 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford scored the Giants' second run as a Little League home run, hitting a triple and then heading home after Brendan Rodgers' relay throw to third base ended up in the dugout. That hit snapped Crawford's 0-for-10 skid at the plate over his three previous games. The shortstop also had an RBI single in the sixth inning. He's hitting .220/.309/.350 with three home runs, 15 RBI, 19 runs scored and a stolen base across 139 plate appearances. That general slump compared to 2021 has seen Crawford drop to the bottom half of the order after starting the season most often hitting third or fourth.
May 11 2022Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBI and two runs Wednesday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford drove in a run on a fielder's choice and came around to score in the bottom of the fourth inning before later taking Chad Kuhl deep for a two-run shot in the following frame. The homer was the shortstop's third of the year and second in his last seven games. Overall, Crawford's slash line of .223/.328/.359 leaves much to be desired and he'll look to build off this performance moving forward.
May 7 2022Crawford will hit the bench against lefty Steven Matz and the Cardinals on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is nowhere near a platoon risk, as Saturday's game marks just his second time out of the lineup all season, though his rare days off will likely continue to come against southpaws. Mauricio Dubon will be the shortstop in his absence.
May 5 2022Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants were unable to muster much offense against Los Angeles pitching Wednesday, as Crawford produced the team's only run with his second-inning solo shot off Tony Gonsolin. The long ball was his second of the campaign and first since April 15. Crawford hit a career-high 24 homers in 2021, but he's far behind that pace through 94 plate appearances this season.
May 1 2022Crawford went 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford contributed an RBI single in the Giants' four-run sixth inning. The shortstop has hit safely in five of his last seven games, but he has no multi-hit efforts in that span. For the season, he's slashing .236/.329/.333 with one home run, nine RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base in 82 plate appearances.
Apr 22 2022Crawford went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford led off the second inning with a double and scored on a Mike Yastrzemski single. In the same frame, he drilled a three-run double and knocked Patrick Corbin out of the contest. It was his third multi-hit game in his last six appearances and his first three-hit performance of the season. Crawford is now slashing .245/.302/.367 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI.
Apr 15 2022Crawford (wrist) went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-1 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford opened the scoring with a second-inning blast off Guardians starter Zach Plesac. This was Crawford's first extra-base hit through six games this season. He's also added two walks and two runs scored. The shortstop should play regularly, though he may need to get some rest if the wrist injury flares up again.
Apr 13 2022Crawford, who exited Tuesday's 13-2 win over the Padres with a wrist injury, said that he's day-to-day and is hopeful to rejoin the Giants lineup Friday in Cleveland, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Gabe Kapler substituted out multiple starters after the Giants raced out to a 10-1 lead after two innings, but Crawford's early exit apparently wasn't precautionary. Though Crawford noted that his wrist feels better than it did Tuesday, he's still uncomfortable while swinging the bat and looks like he'll miss Wednesday's series finale with San Diego as a result. Mauricio Dubon or Thairo Estrada will likely fill in for Crawford at shortstop.
Oct 9 2021Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was one of three Giants to go yard Friday as the team cruised to a win in Game 1 of the NLDS. The 34-year-old has now recorded hits in nine of his last 10 games, batting .289 with four home runs, a double, nine runs, eight RBI and a stolen base during that time.
Sep 30 2021Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-4 victory over Arizona on Thursday. Jul 16 2021Crawford exited Friday's game against the Cardinals in the top of the eighth inning after tweaking his left hamstring, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Given that context, the lefty-hitting Crawford's absence from the lineup Sunday against a right-handed pitcher (Kyle Hendricks) is suspect, but fantasy managers will have to take Kapler's word that the 34-year-old shortstop is healthy. Crawford contributed a double in Saturday's game to give him 21 extra-base hits over 188 plate appearances in what's shaping up to be a career year for the veteran.

He promptly swatted a clutch homer, tying the game at four in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was Crawford's fourth home run of the season, though he is still hitting .217/.260/.520 across 73 plate appearances.
Apr 27 2021Crawford (quadriceps) is starting at shortstop and batting sixth Tuesday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed a few games with a minor quad injury. Crawford is hitting .185 with three home runs and two steals in 20 games.
Apr 26 2021Crawford (quadriceps) will remain on the bench Monday against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was scratched with a tight right quadriceps Saturday against the Marlins and did not play a role in Sunday's contest. He'll sit for at least one more game, with Mauricio Dubon making another start at shortstop. The Giants are hopeful Crawford can return Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Apr 25 2021Crawford (quadriceps) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second game in a row, the Giants will be without both of their normal starters on the left side of the infield with Evan Longoria (hamstring) also sitting out. Mauricio Dubon will fill in at shortstop for Crawford, who is being listed as day-to-day.
Apr 24 2021Crawford was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Marlins due to right quadriceps tightness, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford dealt with side tightness earlier in the week, but it's an entirely separate issue which will sideline him Saturday. It's not yet clear how much time he's expected to miss. Mauricio Dubon will move in to shortstop in his absence, with Austin Slater entering the lineup in center.
Apr 23 2021Crawford (ribs) is starting Friday's game against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford wasn't in Thursday's lineup after he exited Wednesday's contest due to rib cage tightness. However, he appeared as a pinch hitter Thursday and struck out in his lone at-bat. Crawford is starting at shortstop and batting seventh against Miami on Friday.
Apr 22 2021Crawford (side) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford exited Wednesday's game against the Phillies and is now considered day-to-day after he was diagnosed with rib cage tightness. Mauricio Dubon will start at shortstop Thursday, batting eighth.
Apr 21 2021Crawford left Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to tightness in his right side, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Donovan Solano suffered a calf injury in the same game and manager Gabe Kapler said he was likely headed to the injured list, but the skipper made no such comment regarding Crawford, so it sounds like he is day-to-day for now. If Crawford does miss time, Mauricio Dubon would be the likely starter at shortstop.
Apr 18 2021Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford singled in the second inning and stole second with two outs, but he was left aboard. The shortstop has a .188/.250/.417 slash line with two steals, three homers, nine RBI and six runs scored across 52 plate appearances. He's got decent power as a shortstop, but hitting low in the Giants' order minimizes his effectiveness in fantasy.
Apr 13 2021Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk, two strikeouts and a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford only has six hits this season -- he's batting .171 -- but half of them have left the yard. He also has a stolen base. As the everyday shortstop for the Giants, Crawford usually bats sixth against righties and eighth against lefties.
Apr 10 2021Crawford went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk during Saturday's 4-3 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old came to the plate with two runners on while trailing 3-1 during the sixth inning, and he came through with a three-run home run to put the Giants ahead for good. Crawford is 4-for-25 with two home runs, one double, three runs, five RBI and one stolen base through eight games.
Apr 9 2021Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double in Friday's 3-1 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants couldn't get much going against Rockies starter Austin Gomber until the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Crawford sent a double to right-center field, scoring Darin Ruf and Buster Posey to give Giants starter Johnny Cueto all the run support he needed. The 34-year-old Crawford hasn't hit very well to start the year, with a .136/.174/.318 slash line, a homer, three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base across 23 plate appearances. Nonetheless, the veteran shortstop should have a long leash before he would lose playing time to Donovan Solano or Mauricio Dubon.
Apr 7 2021Crawford isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford had started each of the first five games of the season and went 2-for-18 with a solo home run and four strikeouts. Mauricio Dubon will start at shortstop Wednesday, batting eighth.
Apr 5 2021Crawford is starting at shortstop Monday night against San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was initially expected to take a seat for the first time this season, but after Mike Yastrzemski was scratched with a sore hand, Crawford will enter the starting lineup at shortstop. Mauricio Dubon shifts to center field and Austin Slater starts in right field as a result of the Yastrzemski injury.
Apr 3 2021Crawford went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford got on base for the first time this season with a walk in the seventh inning. He then advanced to second on a Mike Yastrzemski walk and stole third before scoring on Donovan Solano's two-run double. The 34-year-old Crawford had a solid bounce-back campaign in 2020 with eight homers, 28 RBI, 26 runs scored and a .256/.326/.465 slash line in 54 games. He remains the Giants' primary shortstop in 2021, but he's expected to hit near the bottom of the order.
Sep 27 2020Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford clocked a two-run blast in the seventh inning to inch the Giants towards a comeback but it wasn't enough. The veteran shortstop ends his 2020 campaign with a .750 OPS, eight homers and 28 RBI.
Sep 26 2020Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-4 win over the Padres on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford took Chris Paddack deep to center to even the game at 1-1 in the second inning. The 33-year-old is hitting a respectable .262/.335/.463 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 185 plate appearances.
Sep 22 2020Crawford is out of the lineup Tuesday against Colorado, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is 10-for-28 with two homers and five doubles over his last nine games but will take a seat with southpaw Kyle Freeland on the mound for the Rockies. Daniel Robertson receives the start at shortstop for the Giants.
Sep 20 2020Crawford went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, an additional run scored and a double in Sunday's 14-2 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford's slam in the sixth inning off Athletics reliever J.B. Wendelken blew things wide open for the Giants' offense. It was Crawford's sixth homer of the year. The shortstop is slashing .283/.352/.483 with 23 RBI, 24 runs scored and a stolen base in 46 contests.
Sep 19 2020Crawford will hit the bench against lefty Jesus Luzardo and the Athletics on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has sat frequently against lefties this season, though he'd been in the lineup against the last two the Giants faced. Daniel Robertson takes over at shortstop on this occasion.
Sep 16 2020Crawford went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and two doubles in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford smacked his first double in the second inning and scored on a Mauricio Dubon single. In the seventh, Crawford added a solo shot for the Giants' final run. The shortstop is now slashing .281/.349/.459 with five homers, 18 RBI, 22 runs scored and a stolen base through 43 contests. This was his second multi-hit effort in 10 games in September.
Sep 7 2020Crawford (hamstring) will start at shortstop and will bat sixth Monday against the Diamondbacks, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was sidelined for back-to-back wins over the weekend while dealing with mild hamstring tightness, but the two days off were apparently all he needed to move past the issue. With Crawford back in the lineup, utility man Daniel Robertson will move back to a bench role.
Sep 6 2020Crawford is dealing with minor hamstring tightness, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Gabe Kapler revealed Crawford's injury after the game and called the issue "very, very mild." Given Kapler's lack of concern regarding the severity of the issue, Crawford shouldn't miss much time as a result.
Sep 5 2020Crawford will sit against lefty Madison Bumgarner and the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has started against just seven of the 17 lefties the Giants have faced this season and won't get the opportunity to face his former teammate here. Daniel Robertson gets the start at shortstop in his absence.
Sep 2 2020Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: One of three San Francisco players to record six RBI in Tuesday's 23-5 victory, Crawford will get a well-deserved day off as the Giants wrap up their series at Coors Field. Daniel Robertson will fill in for Crawford at shortstop, batting eighth against Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland.
Sep 1 2020Crawford went 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, a stolen base, three runs and six RBI in a 23-5 rout over the Rockies on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford joined Alex Dickerson and Donovan Solano to form the first trio of teammates to each drive in six runs in one game in MLB history. Crawford fell a triple shy of the cycle with his performance, which included a three-run homer to right field in the sixth inning. The shortstop pushed his season slash line to .280/.353/.449 with the big effort. He also has four homers and 16 RBI this season.
Aug 27 2020Crawford is in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, playing shortstop and batting eighth. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford did not start Game 1 with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, but he's starting against southpaw Caleb Ferguson in Game 2.
Aug 26 2020Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford started Tuesday with southpaw Julio Urias on the mound and went 3-for-5, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with Clayton Kershaw starting for Los Angeles. Donovan Solano will shift to shortstop while Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone.
Aug 14 2020Crawford is out of the lineup Friday versus Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford started the past four games and went 4-for-16 with three RBI and a walk, but he'll take a seat with lefty Jesus Luzardo starting for the A's. Mauricio Dubon will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Giants.
Aug 8 2020Crawford will remain on the bench Saturday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Saturday's starter Clayton Kershaw is the third straight lefty the Giants have faced, and Crawford has been on the bench against all of them. He's started against just two of the seven southpaws the Giants have seen this season. Mauricio Dubon will be the shortstop in his absence.
Aug 7 2020Crawford will sit against lefty Julio Urias and the Dodgers on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will sit for the second straight day as the Giants face a second straight lefty. He's started against just two of the six southpaws the Giants have faced thus far. Mauricio Dubon will start at shortstop in his absence.
Aug 6 2020Crawford is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Giants and Rockies concluding their series with a day game after a night game and a southpaw (Kyle Freeland) on the mound for Colorado, the right-handed-hitting Donovan Solano will man shortstop in place of the lefty-hitting Crawford. The veteran had started in each of the Giants' first five games of August, going 3-for-16 with four runs scored.
Jul 31 2020Crawford will not start Friday against the Rangers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will hit the bench against southpaw Mike Minor, meaning he's now been out of the lineup for two of the three lefties the Giants have faced thus far. Mauricio Dubon will be the shortstop in his absence.
Jul 30 2020Crawford went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford had gotten off to a slow start this season with one hit in 13 at-bats, but he bounced back with his first multi-hit performance of the campaign. He has hit under the .260 threshold every year but once in his career, however, so there shouldn't be a lot of expectations for what he can do offensively. This three-hit day should at least boost his confidence going forward.
Jul 25 2020Crawford isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford went 1-for-5 over the first two games of the season and will get a day off Saturday. Mauricio Dubon will shift to shortstop with Darin Ruf entering the starting lineup at first base, batting fourth.
Mar 27 2020Crawford had a .391/.440/.565 slash line with one double, one home run and one stolen base in nine games before spring training was suspended. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old is set to start at shortstop again for the Giants in 2020, as he's appeared in at least 143 games in each of the past eight seasons. Crawford will look for a rebound season once play resumes after posting a 74 wRC+ last year, the worst mark since his debut campaign in 2011.
Feb 24 2020Crawford (illness) is in the lineup for Monday's Cactus League game against Arizona, playing shortstop and leading off. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford missed the first few games of spring training as he dealt with an illness, but he'll be able to make his return to the lineup Monday. The 33-year-old is likely the favorite to resume his starting role at shortstop to open the regular season.
Feb 21 2020Crawford is dealing with an illness and isn't starting Saturday's Cactus League opener against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran shortstop's 2020 spring debut will wait a few days as he recovers from the ailment. Crawford still figures to join the lineup sometime in the next week.
Sep 28 2019Crawford is not starting Saturday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has just a single hit in his last six games. Mauricio Dubon slides to shortstop in his absence, with Donovan Solano (calf) starting at second base.
Sep 26 2019Crawford is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will head to the bench for Thursday's series finale as the Giants stack righties against left-hander Kyle Freeland. Mauricio Dubon is covering shortstop in his place, with Cristhian Adames starting at second base.
Sep 19 2019Crawford is not in Thursday's lineup against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is hitting .275 with one home run, 10 strikeouts and 10 walks in 51 at-bats this month. Mauricio Dubon will start at shortstop while Cristhian Adames starts at second base.
Sep 18 2019Crawford went 3-for-6 with a double and a pair of RBI in Tuesday's extra-innings win over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford was one of four Giants to reach base at least three times in an exciting back-and-forth contest against an interleague foe. The 32-year-old's season has been nothing short of a disaster (.234/.311/.361 through 139 games), but the shortstop has been showing a little life at the plate with eight hits and five walks over his last five starts.
Sep 8 2019Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford will unsurprisingly take a seat in the series finale with the Dodgers bringing lefty Julio Urias to the hill. Mauricio Dubon slides over from second base to replace Crawford at shortstop, opening up a spot at the keystone for Donovan Solano.
Sep 6 2019Crawford is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford won't be asked to face a difficult lefty in Clayton Kershaw. Mauricio Dubon will slide to shortstop in his absence, with Donovan Solano starting at second base.
Sep 5 2019Crawford went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 9-8 victory over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford got a bump up to fifth in the order with Alex Dickerson getting the night off and less-experienced additions (Jaylin Davis and Corban Joseph) making their San Francisco debuts. The move proved beneficial for the slumping shortstop, who provided a homer and three RBI after tallying just one and seven respectively through the entire month of August. Even with the Giants sliding out of contention, Crawford and his .229/.299/.363 slash line continue to see regular playing time.

Aug 27 2019Crawford went 3-for-4 (all singles) in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Jul 4 2018Crawford will get the day off Wednesday against the Rockies, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.Crawford is hitting .351 with a 1.115 OPS over his last 10 games, part of a career year at the plate in which he's hitting .311/.374/.498 overall. Each portion of that slash line easily represents a career high. Alen Hanson will get the start at shortstop in his absence.
Jun 30 2018Crawford went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Saturday against the Diamondbacks.Crawford took Shelby Miller deep in the second inning to record his 10th home run of the season. He also reached base on two other occasions via walks, raising his on-base percentage to an impressive .375 mark. Crawford is posting career-best marks in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage through 281 at-bats, and has now secured his fifth consecutive double-digit home run season.
Jun 28 2018Crawford went 2-for-4 with a walkoff home run in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Rockies.Crawford's ninth-inning blast was all the offense the Giants needed in a pitchers' duel between Madison Bumgarner and Kyle Freeland. The 31-year-old is having a career year in 2018, posting a .319/.375/.507 slash line with nine homers in 76 games.
Jun 27 2018Crawford went 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rockies.Crawford's third steal of the season put him in scoring position with one out in the eighth inning, and he'd eventually come around to score the game-winning run following three walks from reliever Adam Ottavino. The 31-year-old has tallied a pair of three-hit games in his last three outings as he continues his career-best season. All three marks of his .316/.374/.496 are currently personal highs.
Jun 23 2018Crawford went 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, a triple, a run scored and three RBI in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Padres. His two-run double in the sixth inning broke open a 1-1 tie and gave the Giants a lead they wouldn't relinquish, but Crawford was locked in all afternoon. The performance broke an 0-for-18 mini-slump over his prior five games, bumping the 31-year-old's slash line back up to a robust .313/.368/.498.
Jun 21 2018Crawford (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list Thursday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. As expected, Crawford is back with the Giants after missing the last three games while attending the birth of his fourth child. The 31-year-old, who is hitting an impressive .315/.370/.492 with eight homers and two stolen bases in 70 games this season, will immediately slot back in as the team's primary shortstop. Kelby Tomlinson was optioned to the minors in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 18 2018Crawford flew to Arizona following Sunday's win over the Dodgers to be with his wife for the birth of their fourth child. He will miss the allotted three games before rejoining the club, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.Fantasy owners will have to make do without Crawford's services, who is slashing .315/.370/.492 with eight homers and 32 RBI through 70 games this season. Alen Hanson figures to be the main benefactor of playing time at short until Crawford returns to the lineup Thursday against the Padres.
Jun 16 2018Crawford will be placed on the paternity list Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford has been on a tear since the start of May with a .401/.450/.425 line with six home runs over 41 games, and can spend up to three days on the paternity list. Kelby Tomlinson is likely to rejoin the Giants to bolster their infield depth in Crawford's brief absence.
Jun 10 2018Crawford went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in the Giants' 2-0 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.Crawford continued his ridiculous hot streak of recent weeks with this four-hit performance bringing his slash line up to a shiny .338/.385/.536 through 222 at-bats. Those numbers make him one of the best offensive shortstops in baseball to start the season, and even if Crawford's average ends up evening out back toward his career mark of .257 as the year progresses, he certainly has the look of a player primed for a career-best campaign at the plate.
Jun 9 2018Crawford is not in the lineup against the Nationals on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Crawford will retreat to the bench with southpaw Gio Gonzalez on the hill for Washington. In his place, Alen Hanson will get a start at shortstop and bat atop the Giants' order. Look for Crawford to be back in the starting nine for Sunday's finale against Max Scherzer.
Jun 6 2018Crawford went 1-for-2 with an RBI double and two walks in Tuesday's loss to the visiting Diamondbacks.Crawford slashed a double -- his 14th of the year -- off Patrick Corbin in the fifth, bringing around Mac Williamson to give Crawford his 26th RBI. The shortstop continues to light it up at the plate, hitting .500 with four extra-base hits through the first five games of June. Crawford's slashline is now .322/.371/.500 with 22 extra-base hits. The 31-year-old's .871 OPS ranks fourth among all MLB shortstops.
Jun 5 2018Crawford went 2-for-2 with a walk, a double and his seventh home run of the season in Monday's 10-3 win over the Diamondbacks.Crawford was part of a three-pitch sequence in the fourth inning that saw both he and Andrew McCutchen go deep off of Arizona starter Zack Godley. After a disappointing start to the year (.189/.237/.300 in his first 27 games), the veteran shortstop has been inversely impressive once the calendar turned to May, slashing an incredible .422/.461/.647 with five homers and 22 RBI over that span.
May 26 2018Crawford went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Cubs.Crawford took left-hander Jose Quintana deep in the fourth inning for his sixth home run of the season. He also tacked on a double against Justin Wilson, another lefty, to lead off the eighth. His success against southpaws continues a surprising season-long trend, as he entered Saturday's games slugging .484 against them in 62 at-bats this season.
May 23 2018Crawford went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.Crawford hit an opposite-field two-run homer -- his fifth of the year -- off starter Gerrit Cole in the fifth. Crawford has extended his hitting streak to nine games, and has brought his slash line to .309/.343/.473. The shortstop has 16 extra-base hits on the year, and currently sports a .377 BABIP. Crawford is a career .255 hitter, so the average figures to come down, but right now he's on an impressive run.
May 19 2018Crawford went 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBI, and three runs in Saturday's win over the Rockies. The hot-hitting Crawford is now hitting over .300 on the season thanks to his torrid week in which he's gone 15-for-29 with five doubles and a home run. Power isn't a major part of Crawford's game but he can hit for average and get on base at a strong clip. He's clearly in a groove and should continue to be deployed in weekly lineups.
May 16 2018Crawford went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the visiting Reds. This was Crawford's eighth multi-hit game since the beginning of May, and he's raised his average from .191 on May 1st to .290 now. The shortstop has nine doubles to go along with three home runs and 15 RBI.
May 16 2018Crawford is out of the lineup against Cincinnati on Wednesday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford will sit for the first time this month after going 4-for-4 with one double and two runs scored during Tuesday's victory. In his absence, Kelby Tomlinson will start at shortstop and bat eighth.
May 5 2018Crawford went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 9-4 victory over Atlanta.Crawford didn't have a multi-hit since April 13 prior to Wednesday, but has now done so in back-to-back games. The home run is his third of the season and only his seventh total extra-base hit. The 31-year-old appears headed in the right direction after starting the season with a career worst strikeout (28.3 percent) and walk rate (5.7 percent), but still has significant work to do on his .223/.261/.350 line.
May 2 2018Crawford went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Padres. It's his first multi-hit game since April 13 and first game with multiple RBI since April 4, as Crawford has had a rough first month of the season. The shortstop's .204/.245/.306 slash line has been sabotaged by a career-worst contact rate and strikeout rate, but the 31-year-old still has plenty of time to fix his swing and turn things around.
Apr 30 2018Crawford is out of the lineup Monday against the Padres.Crawford's tough stretch at the plate continued Sunday as he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Over the last seven games he's gone 3-for-24 (.125) with six strikeouts. He'll get the night off while Kelby Tomlinson starts at shortstop.
Apr 28 2018Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk and his second home run of the season in Friday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers.Crawford teamed up with Evan Longoria to deliver solo shots off Hyun-Jin Ryu in the second inning. The 31-year-old has struggled to the tune of a .205/.259/.333 slash line through 23 games. His career-high 30.6 strikeout percentage is the main culprit of his early slump, as his .275 BABIP isn't that far off from his career norms. Crawford posted strikeout rates below 20 percent each of the last two seasons, so we figure that the veteran will make the necessary mechanical adjustments to right the ship eventually.
Apr 20 2018Crawford is not in the lineup Friday against the Angels, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford will head to the bench to avoid a lefty-on-lefty matchup with Angels' starter Andrew Heaney. Kelby Tomlinson will replace him at shortstop for the evening.
Apr 15 2018Crawford is not in the lineup Sunday against the Padres, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford -- who has five hits through the first three games of the series -- will be withheld from the lineup for the second consecutive Sunday. Kelby Tomlinson will handle shortstop duties in his stead.
Apr 8 2018Crawford is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford -- who is hitting just .200 to begin the season -- went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts during Saturday's contest and will be given the day off in the series finale against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Kelby Tomlinson will slot in at shortstop and bat eighth in the order.
Apr 4 2018Crawford went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 10-1 win over the Mariners. After collecting only three singles through his first five games of 2018, Crawford was able to assemble a more impressive line in the box score Wednesday. The veteran shortstop hasn't been able to duplicate his 21-HR performance from 2015 over the last two seasons, and until he shows signs of regaining that lost thunder he'll remain a low-end fantasy option at shortstop in most formats.
Apr 4 2018Crawford went 0-for-2 before being removed as part of a double-switch in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners. There was no injury to report here, as manager Bruce Bochy simply wanted to get one of his regulars out of a game that the Giants were trailing 6-1. Crawford's bat hasn't made the trip from spring training yet, batting just .188 (3-for-17) with no extra-base hits or counting stats through the club's first five contests. The 31-year-old has been a premier source of RBI as a shortstop over the past few seasons, and he has been batting either fifth or sixth this season, so fantasy owners should remain patient with the slugging shortstop.
Mar 8 2018Crawford went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Padres on Wednesday.Crawford saw his main fantasy asset -- his RBI totals at the shortstop position, take a slight hit last season as an aging San Francisco lineup saw an overall decline in offensive production. He still finished the year with a healthy 77 RBI, which was good enough for fifth among all shortstops. The 31-year-old could see his run-producing opportunities increase back to his 2015 and 2016 levels (84 RBI each season) with the key additions of Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen this offseason. Crawford would likely bat fifth or sixth behind the Giants' new signings, which should lead to more plate appearances with ducks on the pond.
Mar 5 2018Crawford (finger) is in the lineup at shortstop Monday against the Rangers, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford jammed his right index finger on Wednesday and has not appeared in the field since then, though he appeared as a designated hitter Friday and Saturday. He should be fully prepared by Opening Day barring any unexpected setbacks.
Mar 4 2018Crawford (finger) will start at shortstop Monday against the Rangers, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford received reps at the DH spot on Friday and Saturday before having Sunday off. It appears that his finger has fully healed, as manager Bruce Bochy said that Crawford will play shortstop during Monday's Cactus League game.
Mar 2 2018Crawford (finger) served as the Giants' DH on Friday and went 0-for-3 at the plate. While Crawford didn't return to his normal spot at shortstop Friday, his presence in the lineup was a step in the right direction. The Giants haven't indicated when he'll be back in the field, but there's no reason for them to rush the three-time Gold Glove winner's return.
Mar 1 2018Crawford will sit out of Thursday's Cactus League outing after jamming his right index finger Wednesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford suffered the injury while sliding back to first base on a pickoff throw. He was able to stay in the game and even ripped off an RBI single after sustaining the injury, but the club may choose to hold him out for a few days as a precaution.
Feb 28 2018Crawford jammed his right index finger during Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Brewers, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic Bay Area reports.Crawford, who was serving as the Giants' designated hitter, suffered the injury while sliding back to first base on a pickoff throw. The good news is he was able to stay in the game and didn't need any X-rays afterwards, so it doesn't appear to be anything overly serious, though it could ultimately keep him from playing the field for a few days.
Sep 26 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.Crawford is just 3-for-15 in his career against Tuesday's opposing starter, Robbie Ray, so he will get a day off following a string of 10 straight starts. Kelby Tomlinson will start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Sep 21 2017Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Rockies.Crawford's bat has cooled during his team's current homestand that began Sept. 11 (5-for-22), but he was able to crush a ball through the cold San Francisco night and deliver his 14th homer of the season. Despite enduring a brief slump, the 30-year-old has looked like a different hitter in the second half, slashing .273/.339/.440 with six homers and 27 RBI since the All-Star break.
Sep 12 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Crawford will be given the night off against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers after starting each of the team's past 14 games. Kelby Tomlinson will fill the void at shortstop and bat eighth in his stead.
Sep 9 2017Crawford went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a pair of runs scored in a 9-2 win over the White Sox on Friday. It was Crawford's third multi-hit performance in seven September starts. This comes on the heels of a strong month of August where the shortstop batted .292 with three home runs and 12 RBI. Crawford had a rough start to the season (.225/.266/.369 in the first half), but his late push has raised his numbers closer to the levels we had become accustomed to over the last few years.
Sep 2 2017Crawford had a big day at the plate Friday, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a two-run home run in a loss to St. Louis.Crawford had a home run taken away from him on Thursday due to an incorrect ruling by the umpiring headquarters in New York. There was no controversy surrounding his homer in the second inning after the ball bounced off the outfield wall and cleared several rows of bleachers in left field. The 30-year-old has been on a tear over his last 10 contests, batting .417 with 10 extra-base hits (three homers) and eight RBI.
Sep 1 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Friday's loss to St. Louis.Crawford appeared to have hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning, but the call was overturned after the umpiring crew determined there was fan interference. It was a controversial call as the fan's catch stopped the ball from hitting off of the top of the tin right field wall at AT&T Park, which would have still remained a homer. Crawford was understandably upset after the game, telling Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay that "there's no way there's conclusive evidence that it wouldn't have been a homer. For somebody to reach onto the field of play in right field, they would have had to lie down flat and have somebody hold their feet." Even though the slugging shortstop didn't get credited with the homer, he has still performed very well this month with a .292/.364/.469 slash line through 28 August games.
Aug 29 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with his 12th home run of the season in Monday's 3-0 win over San Diego.Crawford returned to the lineup with a bang after receiving a maintenance day Sunday. He has quietly put up a solid month of August with three homers and 11 RBI to compliment a .294/.368/.471 slash line.
Aug 27 2017Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Andrew Baggarly of The Mercury News reports.Crawford will take a seat with southpaw Patrick Corbin twirling for the Diamondbacks, affording Kelby Tomlinson a turn a shortstop. The 30-year-old is slashing .225/.279/.369 against left-handers on the season.
Aug 23 2017Crawford went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Milwaukee. The veteran shortstop has put together a modest seven-game hitting streak, contributing two homers and six RBI over that span. Crawford's current .234 batting average would qualify as the second-worst mark of his career, but he has kept his deep-league fantasy value afloat with 11 homers and 63 RBI through 442 plate appearances.
Aug 19 2017Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 10-2 drubbing of the Phillies. It was Crawford's first homer in August, coming 53 at-bats into the month. The 30-year-old has reached the double-digit homer and 60 RBI mark for the fourth consecutive season. Outside of the modest power and run production, it has been a down year for the slugging shortstop (.229/.279/.368).
Aug 13 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford will head to the bench after going 0-for-4 with a walk in the Giants' 4-2 win in Game 1. Kelby Tomlinson will take over at shortstop for the series finale.
Aug 6 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports.Crawford has started each of the team's previous 13 games and will be replaced in the lineup by Kelby Tomlinson as the Giants close out their weekend series against Patrick Corbin and the Diamondbacks. Crawford is in the midst of a career-worst year, as he currently holds a meager .227/.275/.366 slash line on the season.
Jul 29 2017Crawford went 1-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season in Friday's loss to the Dodgers. The homer was just Crawford's since the All-Star break, but the shortstop has been seeing the ball better in the second half, batting .269 (14-for-52) with eight extra-base hits over his previous 14 contests. The 30-year-old's overall production has been sub-par this year (.232/.273/.384), but his recent success at the plate combined with his placement in the heart of the Giants' order put him back on the map in deeper formats.
Jul 26 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a three runs scored in Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh.Crawford's season has been a disappointing one so far (.235/.276/.381), but he has been picking things up at the plate following the All-Star break, batting .295 (13-for-44) with seven doubles and six RBI in 12 games. The 30-year-old has been able to maintain deep-league fantasy value at the shortstop position with 51 RBI this season, but he would be doing his fantasy owners a big favor if he could get hot and up his batting average in the second half.
Jul 22 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford will sit for the first time since June 28 as Eduardo Nunez shifts over to short and Conor Gillaspie mans the hot corner. While Crawford has multiple hits in two of his last three games, he's still batting just .217/.254/.400 for the month of July. He's taken a dramatic step back against right-handed pitching this season, with his OPS against righties falling nearly 180 points from a year ago.
Jul 19 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run against Cleveland on Wednesday. It's been a rough patch for the Giants' shortstop lately -- over his prior 23 games, he managed just a .156/.196/.267 line, although he did somehow manage to accumulate 15 RBI in that time. Even assuming some positive regression from his uncharacteristically low .261 BABIP, there's not a whole lot of fantasy upside here other than in that RBI category, in which Crawford has been surprisingly productive for years.
Jul 9 2017Crawford went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs scored during Sunday's loss to Miami. The Giants' struggles have taken a toll on Crawford's fantasy value, and while his eight homers and 45 RBI are solid marks for a shortstop, the rest of his numbers are underwhelming. He has just 28 runs and a .225/.266/.369 slash line, after all. Considering the holes in the San Francisco lineup, it's probably ill-advised to expect a rebound in the second half.
Jul 4 2017Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Tigers on Tuesday. He'd been brutalizing his fantasy owners recently, but especially during the span since his last homer, which came in Colorado on June 18 -- over a dozen games between then and Tuesday, Crawford managed to go just 6-for-51 (.118) with zero extra-base hits and a 1:12 BB:K. While the league has been experiencing a never-before-seen surge of home runs, Crawford has seen his own power output decline precipitously since his 21-homer 2015 campaign. There isn't much to like in his fantasy line right now.
Jul 1 2017Crawford went 0-for-6 in Friday's win over the Pirates, dropping his June batting average to .189 (18-for-95).The shortstop's ice-cold month of June dropped his slash line (.232/.274/.369) to levels we haven't seen prior to his breakout season in 2015. Crawford has been fluctuating between fourth and sixth in the lineup all season, so he should remain a solid source of RBI even when hits aren't falling (i.e. his 20 RBI in June).
Jun 28 2017Crawford is not in the lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford will get his first day off since June 17 following Tuesday's 14-inning game against Colorado. The shortstop has recorded one hit in each of the past four contests and is currently hitting .238/.281/.379 with six home runs and 37 RBI on the year.
Jun 19 2017Crawford returned to the lineup after a scheduled day off and went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in a 7-5 loss to the Rockies. If fantasy owners feel like they've seen this stat line from Crawford recently, it is because they have. The shortstop posted an identical stat line in the first game of a four-game set with the Rockies as he did on the final day of the series. The trip to Coors woke up Crawford's bat, and he will look to carry that success into Atlanta on Monday.
Jun 17 2017Crawford is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.Crawford will rest as the Giants load up on right-handed bats to face southpaw Kyle Freeland on Saturday. Kelby Tomlinson replaces him at shortstop, leading off for San Francisco, but expect Crawford to rejoin the starting nine for Sunday's series finale.
Jun 16 2017Crawford went 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run in Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Rockies. The 30-year-old was mired in a 12-game slump to begin the month of June (7-for-38), but a trip to hitter-friendly Coors Field was just what the doctor ordered. He may not be as exciting as some of the young shortstops to enter the league over the past couple of seasons, but with five homers and 29 RBI through 53 games, Crawford is quietly putting up another solid campaign as a run-producing fantasy shortstop.
Jun 11 2017Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. With the Giants facing a left-handed starter (Nik Turley) on Sunday and a scheduled off day looming Monday, Crawford will get an extended rest by sitting out the series finale. The time off could probably do Crawford some good, as he's gone 6-for-35 (.171 average) at the plate while starting the past 10 games. Kelby Tomlinson will swap in for Crawford at shortstop.
Jun 5 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBI during Sunday's loss to Philadelphia.Since returning from the disabled list May 11, Crawford sports a .272/.307/.420 slash line with two homers, 16 RBI and 10 runs over 22 games. Those are respectable numbers for a middle infielder, and Crawford probably has room for improvement after posting a .777 OPS with 168 RBI over the previous two seasons.
May 30 2017Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals, Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Despite collecting hits in each of his last three games, Crawford will head to the bench for Tuesday's contest. Rookie Christian Arroyo will take over at shortstop while Eduardo Nunez mans the hot corner.
May 26 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with his first stolen base of the season in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.Crawford isn't known for his speed on the basepaths, but he will chip in a handful of steals over the course of the season and he provided owners with one Thursday. Despite a lack of counting stats early on, the veteran shortstop holds value due to his regular placement in the middle of the Giants' batting order.
May 20 2017Crawford went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Friday's comeback win over the Cardinals.Friday's multi-hit effort brought the shortstop's batting average up to .276 on the year. Even though his average and slugging percentage (.438) sit near last year's marks, Crawford hasn't been as useful in fantasy as he was last year due to a significant drop in RBI production. RBI -- like wins for pitchers -- are dependent on others' production in conjunction with the player, and the Giants have been one of the worst run-producing teams in the majors this season. The recent return of Denard Span to the top of the lineup has provided a spark for San Francisco, so his presence may lead to more at-bats for Crawford with men on base.
May 17 2017Crawford is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Manager Bruce Bochy is employing a righty-heavy lineup with stud southpaw Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber for Los Angeles, so Crawford will get the day off. Christian Arroyo will slide over to shortstop to fill in for him.
May 14 2017Crawford batted fifth and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Reds.Sunday's marks in the run and RBI columns represented Crawford's firsts since returning from the disabled list May 11. His counting stats have been down this season due to a combination of a struggling San Francisco offense and missed time. Other than his lack of run production, the shortstop's .250 average and .157 isolated power rating are in line with his career averages.
May 11 2017Crawford (groin) is starting at shortstop and hitting fourth Thursday against the Reds, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. As planned, Crawford was activated from the disabled list and is in the lineup for Thursday's outing. Crawford missed 14 games with a groin injury, but will look to elevate his .263 batting average and .718 OPS on Thursday night.
May 10 2017Crawford (groin) is expected to be activated and return to the lineup Thursday against the Reds, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The star shortstop has been out for over two weeks with the ailment, but appears ready to make a return to action as the Giants open up a four-game home stand. Crawford is hitting .263/.284/.434 with a .718 OPS this season, a solid start he will look to build off upon his reinsertion into the lineup.
May 8 2017Crawford (groin) will extend his rehab assignment an extra day and play seven innings for Double-A Richmond on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford was expected to be activated Tuesday, but the training staff thinks he needs one more day before he's ready to return. If all goes well, Crawford will be activated Wednesday. The shortstop has been out since April 25 and had eight extra-base hits but just a .284 on-base percentage before going down.
May 7 2017Crawford (groin) will play a minor-league rehab game with Double-A Richmond on Monday with hopes of being activated from the disabled list Tuesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford had hoped to be activated from the disabled list this weekend, but soggy field conditions made it difficult for him to test his injured groin on the basepaths. If everything goes well during his rehab assignment Monday, it sounds like the veteran shortstop plans to rejoin the major-league squad Tuesday in New York.
May 5 2017Manager Bruce Bochy said Crawford (groin) won't be activated from the disabled list when eligible Saturday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. While Crawford was hopeful he'd be able to rejoin the Giants once eligible, the veteran shortstop will apparently need some more time before he's ready. It's unclear when the Giants expect to activate him at this point, but he doesn't appear to be too far from a return. The 30-year-old was slashing .263/.284/.434 with two homers and eight RBI before landing on the disabled list April 29.
May 1 2017Crawford (groin) expects to come off the disabled list when eligible, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports.Crawford landed on the 10-day disabled list April 29, but this is a good sign Crawford can return May 6, the day he is eligible to return. The 30-year-old is slashing .263/.284/.434 with two home runs and eight RBI with 12 strikeouts in 76 at-bats.
Apr 29 2017Crawford (groin) was activated from the bereavement list and placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford was reevaluated upon his return from a family funeral and deemed unable to play by team doctors. The move is retroactive to the beginning of his bereavement leave, so he'll be eligible to return next Saturday in Cincinnati. Until then, the Giants will continue leaning on rookie Christian Arroyo, who has already smashed two home runs through his first five MLB games.
Apr 26 2017Crawford (groin) was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News' Andrew Baggarly reports. He has to miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven, so he could be back this weekend against the Padres. This happens to coincide with him dealing with a groin injury, so ideally he will also have time to heal while he is attending to personal matters. Kelby Tomlinson was recalled to take his spot at shortstop in the short term.
Apr 26 2017Crawford (groin) will be reevaluated upon his return from the bereavement list Friday, Andrew Baggarly of MLB Press Box reports.Crawford didn't have time to get an MRI before heading leaving for a family funeral, so he'll get checked out once he returns. If he's forced to hit the disabled list, it will be retroactive to Tuesday. More should be known about his status come Friday.
Apr 25 2017Crawford exited Tuesday's game against the Dodgers early after appearing to tweak his groin while running to first base, NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.Crawford exited the game after coming up a bit gimpy while running to first. Following his departure, he was able to run sprints on the side of the field so it appears that the injury was nothing overly serious. The shortstop was already planning to miss the next two games as he takes time off on the bereavement list, so he'll have time to heal up. Until further information becomes available, he'll be considered day-to-day.
Apr 22 2017Crawford will go on the bereavement list for three days next week, NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. The exact days he will miss have not been announced, but this will limit him to four games, at most, next week. Eduardo Nunez and Kelby Tomlinson are internal options to fill in at shortstop while Crawford is out, and top prospect Christian Arroyo will not be considered for a brief call-up.
Apr 15 2017Crawford (personal) returned to the starting lineup Friday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a win over Colorado.Crawford had been dealing with a death in the family, explaining his absence from the lineup Wednesday and Thursday. He returned with a bang, taking the left-handed Tyler Anderson deep in fourth inning. With Buster Posey (concussion) on the disabled list, Crawford will bat one spot higher in the lineup, giving him even more potential for RBI.
Apr 14 2017Crawford (personal) grounded out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group reports. The shortstop left the team Wednesday after his wife's oldest sister passed away, but he rejoined the club Thursday around game time and served a role off the bench. Crawford probably will return to the lineup Friday.
Apr 14 2017Crawford will be in the lineup Friday against Colorado, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants have yet to release their lineup, but it has been confirmed that Crawford will indeed start for the Giants against Tyler Anderson and the Rockies. Crawford briefly left the team to tend to a family emergency, but was able to make a pinch hit appearance Thursday. It's still unclear whether Crawford will eventually head to the bereavement list, but for now, he will remain in the lineup.
Apr 13 2017Crawford is not in the lineup Thursday against the Rockies, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After starting all of the Giants' first eight games, Crawford has now been held out of the lineup for two of the last three contests. There hasn't been any word of an injury at this point, though it'll definitely be something to monitor moving forward as it seems unlikely that he would be rested in games so close to each other.
Apr 13 2017Crawford is not with the Giants for Thursday's game against the Rockies due to a family emergency, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Giants refused to elaborate on the situation, so not much else is currently known. He should be considered day-to-day for the time being, but expect an update on his status once more information is available.
Apr 11 2017Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford will get the day off after starting the first eight games for the Giants. He's off to a nice start to the season, going 11-for-30 with one homer, five RBI and three runs. Eduardo Nunez will cover for him at shortstop while Aaron Hill mans third base.
Apr 10 2017Crawford went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI during Monday's 4-1 win over Arizona. It was another solid outing for Crawford, as hitting in the heart of the lineup helps his fantasy floor. He offers more pop than most shortstops and really moves the needle in the RBI column with 84 in consecutive seasons. Crawford has gone 11-for-30 with six runs, a home run and five RBI to start the year, and he's a serviceable option in the majority of settings.
Apr 5 2017Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over Arizona. He could have had a much bigger day, as Crawford was credited with six stranded baserunners. Still, he's opened the season by going 4-for-10 with three extra-base hits, and fantasy owners aren't about to look that gift horse in its mouth. Crawford's been improving steadily, and he's already proven to be a quality source of RBI. The question now for fantasy owners is whether he can continue last year's uptick in batting average and/or regain the power stroke he showed two seasons ago.
Apr 5 2017Manager Bruce Bochy said that Crawford will bat cleanup when Buster Posey isn't in the lineup, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.Crawford drew high praise from his manager, who also said he believes the shortstop has become such a good hitter that he has a chance to hit 25 homers this season. The former number eight hitter has solidified himself in the five-hole this season and will continue to climb up in the order when Posey takes an off day. The 30-year-old is 4-for-10 with one homer through two games this season.
Mar 23 2017Crawford went 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI in Team United States' win over Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic Championship on Wednesday. The slugging shortstop shone on March's biggest stage, slashing .385/.429/.577 with six RBI while playing for his country. Crawford will now reunite with his fellow Giants teammates in Arizona to close out the final couple of weeks of spring training. Barring injury, the 30-year-old will serve as the club's everyday shortstop, providing a little pop and solid counting stats for his position.
Mar 12 2017Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI in Saturday's WBC loss to Team Domincan Republic.Crawford had been struggling in Cactus League action (2-for-17), so his fantasy owners will be relieved to see that he is getting off to a good start in the World Baseball Classic (3-for-7). His ability to perform in the WBC holds more weight than spring training numbers, considering the competitive nature of the tournament in comparison to spring training games where Crawford has nothing to prove. The slugging infielder will open the season as the Giants' everyday shortstop.
Feb 25 2017Crawford batted leadoff and went 0-for-2 in his spring training debut against the Reds on Friday. The lineup order should be disregarded as Crawford won't be batting leadoff come Opening Day. The 29-year-old saw his power numbers dip back to regular levels in 2016 after exploding for 21 homers the year prior. While the homers regressed, Crawford actually improved his batting average (.275) and on-base percentage (.342) while maintaining the 84 RBI high watermark he set in 2016. If he can maintain those levels, he will have value as a shortstop despite not hitting for plus power or stealing a ton of bases.
Sep 30 2016Crawford went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a walk in the 9-3 victory over the Dodgers on Friday. That makes the Giants shortstop 5-for-9 (.556) in the last two games and 9-for-16 (.563) in his most recent four contests. He is now hitting .275 with 12 home runs, 83 RBI, 66 runs and six steals in 545 at-bats. Crawford also leads the NL with 11 triples.
Sep 28 2016Crawford went 4-for-5 with a two triples, two RBI and a pair of runs scored in Tuesday's blowout win over the Rockies.Crawford had missed some time with a finger injury last week, but Tuesday's performance is as good as any indicator that he is fully healthy. His two triples Tuesday brought his season total to 11, which puts him in a tie for the league lead in that category.
Sep 25 2016Crawford (finger) is in Sunday's lineup against the Padres.Crawford missed four games with a dislocated pinkie, but is back in action Sunday. He'll start at shortstop and hit seventh against Clayton Richard and the Padres. Crawford had gone just 5-for-24 (.208) over his last seven games prior to getting injured.
Sep 24 2016Crawford (finger) remains out of the lineup Saturday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. He was doubtful to play Saturday, so this comes as no surprise. It sounds as though he has been progressing with his recovery, so he should be expected back in the coming days. Ehire Adrianza will start at shortstop again and bat eighth Saturday.
Sep 23 2016Crawford (finger) is considered doubtful for Saturday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It sounds like Sunday is the earliest we could see Crawford, who suffered a dislocated left pinkie during Tuesday's game. He did some throwing Thursday and took dry swings Friday, so he's moving in the right direction and appears primed to contribute over the final week of the regular season.
Sep 23 2016Crawford (finger) remains out of the lineup Friday in San Diego. He will miss his third game in a row after dislocating the pinkie finger on his glove hand. It sounds like he is steadily improving, and it would not be surprising if he returned at some point during this weekend's series. Ehire Adrianza will get the start at shortstop and hit eighth in Crawford's place Friday.
Sep 22 2016Crawford (finger) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Padres.Crawford dislocated his left pinkie finger in Tuesday's contest, and it seems that the Giants will give him another day to get it back into game shape. Ehire Adrianza will take over at shortstop in his stead once again.
Sep 22 2016Manager Bruce Bochy said Crawford (finger) was "much better" Thursday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford is out again Thursday after suffering a dislocated left pinkie finger during Tuesday's game. He will play catch Thursday to keep his arm in shape but that will be the extent of his activity. With that, a Friday return seems like a stretch, but it sounds like Crawford has a chance to make it back onto the field this weekend.
Sep 21 2016Crawford (pinkie) will sit out Wednesday's game, but will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis going forward, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. After leaving Tuesday's game with a dislocated left pinkie suffered on a slide into third base, his finger was popped back into place. Crawford acknowledged that his finger will be swollen and sore Wednesday, and manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Ehire Adrianza will get at least one start at shortstop while Crawford heals. Joe Panik apparently missed three games with the same injury last year, but the fact that Crawford throws right-handed and the Giants are battling for a playoff spot might allow him to miss less than three games.
Sep 20 2016Crawford left Tuesday's game with a dislocated left pinkie finger. It is unclear how much time Crawford will miss with the injury. For what it's worth, he bats left-handed and throws right-handed, so after the injury is tended to, it shouldn't affect his ability to play the field. He suffered the injury on a rough slide into third base in the second inning of Tuesday's game while trying to go first to third after singling. Ehire Adrianza, who moved over to shortstop Tuesday, figures to fill in if Crawford misses further time.
Sep 20 2016Crawford left Tuesday's game in the second inning with an apparent hand/wrist injury after a hard slide at third base, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. He tried to go first to third on a Brandon Belt hit after singling in the second inning and was gunned out at third base while also injuring himself during the slide. Joe Panik entered the game at second base and Ehire Adrianza moved from second base to shortstop. His status will be updated when the team provides an official diagnosis of the injury.
Sep 17 2016Crawford was moved back down to sixth in the batting order Friday, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in an 8-2 win over St. Louis.Crawford had spent some time over the past couple of weeks batting cleanup for a struggling Giants offense. He didn't play his way out of the role, Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt have just been swinging hot bats of late, affording manager Bruce Bochy the luxury of putting his core pieces back in their usual lineup slots. Moving out of the cleanup spot is never a positive for a player's fantasy value, but Crawford accrued the majority of his 80 RBI batting fifth, sixth or seventh this season, so his value won't take a big dip, especially with so many solid on-base options batting in front of the All-Star shortstop.
Sep 4 2016Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford didn't receive a day off the entire month of August, so this appears to just be a long overdue maintenance day. Ehire Adrianza will start at shortstop in his place Sunday afternoon.
Aug 29 2016Crawford batted cleanup and went 3-for-4 with a triple, and RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 13-4 win over the Braves.Crawford continued his hot month of August (.307/.360/.525) with a multi-hit game following Saturday's home run. He has provided 76 RBI from a position that traditionally doesn't provide much run production. That trend should continue as long as Crawford is batting in the middle third of the Giants' lineup.
Aug 19 2016Crawford went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs in a 10-7 win against the Mets on Thursday.Though productive on the whole, August has been an odd month for Crawford; he's delivered six multi-hit efforts among 16 games, including a seven-hit night, and yet has improved his stat line only nominally thanks to seven hitless games in that same span. His .784 OPS is a near clone of last year's .782 mark, but he seems quite unlikely to crack 20 homers again and provides minimal speed, so most of Crawford's fantasy value stems from his RBI -- he's tied for second among shortstops with 74.
Aug 17 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in the Giants' 6-5 loss at the hands of the Pirates. The triple was Crawford's eighth of the season, putting him into a tie for second for most triples in the MLB this season. The solid night raised Crawford's RBI total to 74, best among NL shortstops ahead of fellow NL West stars Trevor Story and Corey Seager. He's now hitting .271/.338/.439 on the year.
Aug 10 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 and provided all the game's offense with a solo shot to beat the Marlins 1-0 on Wednesday. After tying the NL record with seven hits in Monday's 14-inning game, the shortstop added two more on Wednesday and finished the series 9-for-16. Crawford's fourth-inning blast was his 11th of the season and boosted his RBI total to 71 for the year, third-most among shortstops behind only the Rockies' Trevor Story (72) and the Astros' Carlos Correa (74).
Aug 9 2016Crawford had a day to remember at the plate on Monday, going 7-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored against the Marlins.Crawford's seven-hit night raised his batting average a full 13 points in one game. The seven hits are more than he had come up with in his previous 11 games combined. Crawford has 35 extra-base hits on the season, including 10 home runs, to go along with 70 RBI.
Aug 2 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 13-8 loss to the Phillies.Crawford proved to be no worse for the wear after sitting out two games with a hand injury, backing up a fourth-inning solo homer with a two-run single in the fifth. The slugging shortstop has managed just 10 long balls after launching 21 last year, but he's well on pace to top last season's career-high total of 84 RBI thanks to a consistent role in the heart of a talented Giants lineup.
Aug 2 2016Crawford (hand) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. After sitting out of the Giants' last two games due to a bruised hand, Crawford will get back into the lineup for the series opener in Philadelphia. His return will move new addition Eduardo Nunez to third base and bump him down to ninth in the order while Crawford bats fifth.
Jul 31 2016Crawford (hand) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford was given the day off Saturday due to a bruised hand suffered Friday, and will sit his second straight contest as a result of the ailment. It doesn't sound like something that will represent a long-term concern, and with the team off Monday, sitting Crawford on Sunday will give him an extra day to rest. Look for the regular shortstop to return to action for Tuesday's opener against the Phillies, but his status is worth checking up on just to be safe.
Jul 31 2016Crawford (hand) is available to pinch hit in Sunday's outing against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay AreaWith this latest news, Crawford is expected to fully return for Tuesday's game against Philadelphia. Crawford has been rather subpar at the plate in recent contests and has gone just 5-for-22 over the last seven days.
Jul 30 2016Crawford is out of the lineup Saturday against the Nationals due to a bruised left hand, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Apparently, Crawford jammed his hand in his first at-bat Friday and needs at least one day to rest up. Eduardo Nunez will take over at shortstop and lead off with Denard Span (quad) also on the bench. Crawford is batting .196/.255/.314 without a home run since the All-Star break.
Jul 26 2016Crawford went 3-for-5 with a two-run triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-7 victory over the Reds.Crawford and pitcher Matt Cain were the only Giants to pick up extra-base hits in what was otherwise a methodical but effective performance by the Giants offense. Hopefully this performance gets the shortstop going, as he had failed to drive in a run in any of his previous nine games. His .158 isolated power is a far cry from last season's .205 mark.
Jul 11 2016Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 4-0 victory over the D-backs.The veteran shortstop posted seven RBI over the final four games before the All-Star break, with Sunday's output marking the second time he'd driven in three in the series versus Arizona. Crawford brought home Angel Pagan with a first-inning sacrifice fly, and then drove in Brandon Belt and Buster Posey in the seventh with his two-bagger. The 29-year-old has steadily raised his average over the last several weeks, bringing it up 26 points to its current .281 figure since June 1. His 61 RBI also lead the Giants as they head into the All-Star break with the best record in baseball.
Jul 8 2016Crawford went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and a walk in Friday's win over the Diamondbacks.Crawford brought his team level after going down early with a two-run shot in the second inning, and he put them ahead two with an RBI single the next inning. He is now 5-for-10 with a homer, five RBI and two runs scored over the last three games and seems to be in a groove as the first half of the season wraps up.
Jul 1 2016Crawford went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two RBI, a walk and a run in Thursday's 12-6 victory over the A's.The veteran shortstop closed out June with a flourish, tallying multi-hit efforts in three of his last four contests, while driving in 10 runs over that span. Although he enjoyed a very productive month, Crawford's homer Thursday actually was his first since way back on May 19. Despite the long-ball drought, a 23-RBI haul in June has brought his season total to 52 in that category.
Jun 29 2016Crawford knocked in five runs as part of a 3-for-5 game in Tuesday's loss to Oakland.Crawford is a red-hot 5-for-10 with seven RBI over his past two games. He is still without a home run this month, but he has an amazing 20 RBI in 24 games (22 starts). Crawford has just six home runs this year and looks like he won't be able to match his career high of 21, set last year, unless he hits an extended hot streak soon.
Jun 27 2016Crawford is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Athletics.Crawford will have the night to rest and will be replaced by Ramiro Pena. Pena has played well as of late, having gone 9-for-22 in the last seven days. Crawford may return to the lineup for Tuesday's outing against Oakland when the Giants face the right-handed Kendall Graveman.
Jun 23 2016Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday against the Pirates. The Giants are giving their shortstop a rest day for Thursday's day game, along with fellow veterans Brandon Belt and Angel Pagan. Crawford has done pretty much exactly what any reasonable person would have expected from him this year, hitting .263 with six homers, 28 runs, 42 RBI and three steals through 71 games. Ramiro Pena will start at shortstop and hit sixth Thursday.
Jun 18 2016Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and a pair of RBI in Friday's win over Tampa Bay.Crawford has been on a bit of a power drought recently, failing to hit a homer since May 20. Despite the lack of homers, he has done a great job of driving in runs this month, recording 10 RBI through 14 June games. Crawford is the type of player to get red-hot for stretches, so his owners should be patient with him as the power will return.
Jun 1 2016Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Braves.Crawford hit .267/.322/.448 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 28 games throughout May but will receive a day off to rest while Kelby Tomlinson starts at short stop.
May 25 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and a run Wednesday against the Padres.Crawford was decisive at the plate once again, and he provided the game-winning RBI with a single in the bottom of the 10th inning. With five RBI in the last two games and 21 over the month of May, the third baseman might be on the verge of breaking out despite going hitless in five of his last 11 games.
May 20 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Padres.Crawford appears to be heating up again with his second homer over his last three games. He can be a very streaky hitter, but he is currently on pace to repeat his excellent 2016 power numbers. His .257/.325/.444 slash line is nearly identical to his 2015 results (.256/.321/.462) which had him finishing as a top-three shortstop. Unlike last year, he is only a fringe top-10 shortstop due to the emergence of new talent at the position (Trevor Story, Aledmys Diaz and Eugenio Suarez to name a few).
May 15 2016Crawford (neck) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.Crawford was held out of Saturday's lineup due to a stiff neck, but it appears a day off helped give the ailment time to subside, as he'll return to action Sunday afternoon. The 29-year-old shortstop is currently posting a .730 OPS through 37 games as he attempts to follow up a 2015 All-Star campaign.
May 14 2016Crawford has a stiff neck, which is why he is not in the lineup Saturday, the San Jose Mercury News' Andrew Baggarly reports.Manager Bruce Bochy said Crawford is healthy enough to play, but given the minor ailment he will get a day off. It's unfortunate, as this was primed to be an ideal matchup for Crawford against a righty (Eddie Butler) in Coors Field, but getting him fully healthy is more important in the long run. Kelby Tomlinson is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth Saturday.
May 14 2016Crawford is out of the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks. This is a bit of a strange day for Crawford to sit against a righty in Coors Field, so it's worth circling back to see if anything comes out about an ailment. For now it seems like just a day off. Kelby Tomlinson will start at shortstop and hit eighth.
May 10 2016Crawford is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. With a lefty in J.A. Happ due up for Toronto, Crawford will head to the bench for a well-deserved day off, his first since April 15. Kelby Tomlinson will man shortstop and bat eighth, but look for Crawford to return Wednesday to face right-hander Marcus Stroman.
May 7 2016Crawford smashed a three-run shot in Friday's 6-4 win over the Rockies.Crawford has been on a roll lately, hitting .333 with a pair of homers, eight RBI and a pair of steals over his last six games. The power and batting average are right where they should be, but if he can maintain a .345 OBP for the rest of the season then Crawford's 2016 could actually surpass his stellar 2015.
May 2 2016Crawford homered and knocked in four runs in a 2-for-4 game in Monday's win over Cincinnati.Crawford had gone nine straight games without an extra-base hit before launching the three-run shot off Drew Hayes to break a tie in the seventh inning. Even with the brief power slump, Crawford is slugging .414, giving him the seventh-best mark among qualified shortstops this season between Carlos Correa and Jordy Mercer.
Apr 29 2016Crawford (knee) is back in the lineup Friday, hitting seventh against Steven Matz and the Mets, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. The knee injury that forced him from Wednesday's game was apparently quite minor, as Crawford only needed Thursday's off day to get right. He has yet to offer the kind of power that his fantasy owners were banking on when they drafted him (.389 SLG), but it's a young season, and he has the best approach of his career to date (16:12 K:BB).
Apr 27 2016Crawford left Wednesday's matchup against the Padres with a knee injury, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford fouled a ball off his knee in the fifth inning, which eventually led to his exit after the sixth. Fortunately, manager Bruce Bochy indicated the knee was just sore and he should be fine. Crawford finished the day 0-for-3 with one RBI. The Giants have an off day Thursday, so consider him day-to-day until his status for Friday's tilt with the Mets is confirmed.
Apr 23 2016Crawford went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a pair of doubles in Friday's win over the Marlins.Prior to Friday's output, Crawford was batting .191 (4-for-21) since returning from a minor hip injury April 16. This could be a sign that he is seeing the ball well and about to go on one of his patented hot streaks.
Apr 17 2016Crawford (hip) returned to the lineup Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a walk, double and RBI in a win over the Dodgers.Crawford had a minor hip injury, but it was never considered serious. His double came of Dodgers southpaw Scott Kazmir. He has gotten off to a slow start against lefties this season (.154), but he had pretty even splits against righties and lefties last season so that average should rise as the season moves along.
Apr 16 2016Crawford (hip) is back in the lineup Saturday, manning shortstop and hitting seventh against the Dodgers. He missed one game with the sore hip, but the injury was apparently pretty minor, as he'll make it back Saturday against lefty Scott Kazmir. Prior to the injury, Crawford had two home runs while posting a career-best 10.8 percent walk rate through 37 plate appearances.
Apr 15 2016Crawford (hip) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Manager Bruce Bochy was hoping Crawford could give it a go despite some hip flexor soreness, but the 29-year-old is out of the lineup, replaced at shortstop by Kelby Tomlinson. It's uncertain if the Giants will give Crawford additional rest, but they are facing another lefty on Saturday (Scott Kazmir), so that could factor into the decision.
Apr 14 2016Crawford is dealing with some hip flexor soreness but manager Bruce Bochy hopes to have him in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford's hip flexor reportedly flared up during the course of Thursday's game against the Rockies. He was able to log three at bats Thursday, but he went 0-for-3 before being replaced by Ehire Adrianza. Unfortunately, Adrianza fouled a ball off his foot Thursday and is also banged up, so if neither he nor Crawford are available Friday, the Giants could have to call upon Kelby Thompson to start at shortstop.
Apr 9 2016Crawford is out of the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. With lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound for Los Angeles, the Giants will employ a righty-heavy lineup. Crawford will be replaced by Ehire Adrianza at shortstop, and Adrianza will bat ninth.
Apr 6 2016Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and his first home run of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Milwaukee.Crawford provided all the thump for the Giants, collecting their only two extra-base hits against Jimmy Nelson. Coming off a year where he exploded for 21 homers, fantasy owners will be pleased to see him knock one out of the park in just the second game of the season. Crawford will be on a mission to prove that least year's power outbreak was no fluke.
Apr 1 2016Crawford is batting .333 with a 1.012 OPS through 51 spring plate appearances. After having a breakout year during his age-28 season, fantasy owners are wondering if Crawford can come close to last year's All-Star performance. While spring training stats don't hold a lot of weight, it is good to see him repeating his power numbers early on in 2016. Given the scarcity of fantasy-friendly shortstops, he should be considered a premium option to start the season.
Mar 9 2016Crawford (shoulder) will make his first spring start at shortstop Wednesday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. The Giants waned to limit Crawford's throwing earlier this spring, but his shoulder is healthy enough to be deployed at his natural position Wednesday. He may get more days off than the Giants' other regulars over the next couple weeks, but Crawford is expected to be a full go once the regular season commences.
Mar 2 2016Crawford will limit his throwing during spring training to reduce the wear and tear on his shoulder, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. The Giants will take a cautious route with their starting shortstop this spring after Crawford reported the same type of throwing soreness he has experienced in years past. As a result, Crawford isn't expected to start playing in the field in exhibition games until next week, according to MLB.com's Chris Haft and it's possible that he'll get routine days off from playing shortstop during the spring until his shoulder soreness subsides. Crawford's shoulder soreness is not a reason for concern for potential owners at this point.
Nov 17 2015Crawford signed a six-year contract extension with the Giants on Tuesday. The Giants have rewarded Crawford following his offensive breakout in 2015, reportedly giving him $75 million and a full no-trade clause. Crawford more than doubled his previous career high in home runs from 2014 (10), smacking 21 while trimming his strikeout rate to 21.2 percent last season. While there's reason to think the power will decline in 2016 (16.2% HR/FB last season), Crawford is an excellent defender at a premium position, and even with regression built in, is an easy top-10 shortstop for 2016.
Oct 4 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Though he'll rest in the finale in favor of Nick Noonan, Crawford will finish the season will career-best marks in just about every category. He made particularly dramatic improvements in the power categories, more than doubling his output in home runs from a year earlier.
Oct 3 2015Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in a loss to the Rockies on Friday. It's been a breakout season for the shortstop, but a rough second half. Over his previous 24 games, Crawford was hitting just .167 with one home run and six RBI. It remains to be seen if the bat can hold up for a full season, but Crawford's made major strides this season.
Oct 1 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday against the Giants.Chalk this up as a regular rest day for Crawford, who has dealt with his fair share of bumps and bruises during the final month of the season. Nick Noonan will take over at shortstop in his stead.
Sep 25 2015Crawford went 1-for-2 with his 20th home run of the season in Thursday's loss to the Padres.Crawford became the first shortstop in the majors to reach the 20 home run milestone. It is a cherry on top of a career-year for the 28-year-old. Since returning from a minor calf injury September 18, Crawford is batting .286 with a homer and four RBI. He may have one final hot stretch left in his bat, so make sure he wasn't dropped while he was recovering.
Sep 23 2015Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and his fifth stolen base of the year against the Padres on Tuesday. With Brandon Belt (concussion) and Buster Posey (hip) sidelined Tuesday, Crawford moved up to the cleanup spot in the order. He has dealt with minor injuries himself after the All-Star break, which have lead to him seeing his overall numbers go down (.238/.277/.436 post-All-Star break). However, the power hasn't disappeared, as he has already surpassed his career-high of 10 long balls, and he is one homer away from 20 this season.
Sep 18 2015Crawford (calf) is back in the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks. After missing seven straight contests and having an off day Thursday, Crawford will rejoin the lineup after battling a lingering calf issue. He'll man his usual shortstop duties, while batting seventh against Rubby De La Rosa.
Sep 16 2015Crawford (calf) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds. There was some speculation that Crawford could return Wednesday, but the team will play it safe and hold the shortstop out at least through Thursday's off day. Ehire Adrianza starts again for San Francisco, batting eighth.
Sep 15 2015Crawford (calf) could play Wednesday, but Friday is a more likely return date, the San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea reports. It sounds like owners could get roughly two weeks from Crawford before the end of the season, although the Giants will likely be very cautious with him upon his return.
Sep 15 2015Crawford (calf) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Reds.He will miss a sixth straight start due to a lingering calf issue, though the matchup against lefty John Lamb may have played a part in the decision to hold Crawford out yet again. Crawford hit off a tee Sunday but his status for the rest of the week is uncertain. Ehire Adrianza starts again at shortstop for San Francisco.
Sep 13 2015Crawford (calf), who is out of the lineup Sunday, is scheduled to hit off a tee, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford will miss his fourth straight game, but at least appears to be heading in the right direction. Sep 12 2015Crawford (calf) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Padres.Make it three straight games out of the lineup for Crawford, who continues to be hampered by calf and oblique tightness. Both issues have been lingering for some time, as Crawford missed eight games from late August into September and only made it five games after his return before being forced out of action. His availability in the short term is up in the air.
Sep 11 2015Crawford (calf) is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.Crawford was held out of Wednesday's lineup after injuring his calf in Tuesday's contest, and he'll now miss his second game with the ailment. Ehire Adrianza will get the start at shortstop in his stead and bat eighth.

Sep 8 2015Crawford (calf/oblique) will be out for a couple days, the San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea reports. He left Tuesday's game with calf and oblique tightness -- two injuries that plagued Crawford earlier in the season. Look for him to return to the lineup sometime this weekend. Ehire Adrianza should get the starts at shortstop in the short term.
Sep 8 2015Crawford left Tuesday's game with tightness in his left calf and left oblique, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. These are the same two injuries that had sidelined Crawford earlier in the season. Ehire Adrianza replaced Crawford at shortstop and would figure to start there Wednesday if Crawford misses more time.
Sep 5 2015Crawford (calf) returned to the lineup Friday, but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Rockies. It was surprising that the Giants brought Crawford back on Friday with a lefty on the mound. What that does tell us is that they felt he was completely healthy. With another game at Coors Field and Chad Bettis (4.78 ERA) on the mound, Crawford should be a good bet for a bounce-back game.
Sep 4 2015Crawford (calf) is in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.Crawford will return to the lineup after missing three straight games and eight of the last nine with both calf soreness and an oblique injury. He'll play shortstop and bat sixth against Jorge De La Rosa.
Sep 3 2015Crawford (calf) is out of the lineup Thursday against the Rockies.Crawford continues to sit with a calf injury, thought the presence of the left-handed Chris Rusin on the mound for the Rockies may have also played into the decision to sit the shortstop. Crawford remains day-to-day, but will sit for the eighth time in nine games, with no clear return date in sight.
Sep 2 2015Crawford (calf) is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.Calf soreness will keep Crawford out of the lineup for the second consecutive day Wednesday. The soreness stems from when he was hit by a pitch Monday, and Ehire Adrianza will again take over at shortstop for the Giants. San Francisco opens a four-game set in Colorado on Thursday, so owners will want to monitor Crawford's status before Thursday's tilt gets underway.
Sep 1 2015Crawford is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.A reason for Crawford's absence was not immediately provided, but he was hit by a fastball Monday night, and has also battled an oblique injury recently. We'll await further word from the team, but Ehire Adrianza will get the start at short Tuesday against right-hander Zack Greinke.
Sep 1 2015Crawford was held out of Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers due to a sore calf, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game reports. As expected, Crawford was still feeling some residual pain after being drilled by a fastball Monday night, so he'll receive the evening off to rest. The Giants will face a lefty in Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday, so it wouldn't be surprising if Crawford receives another day to rest the injury. Ehire Adrianza picked up the start Tuesday in Crawford's absence.
Aug 31 2015Crawford (oblique) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford will return to action after missing the last five games with his sore oblique. He will start at shortstop and hit sixth for the Giants in Monday's batting order.
Aug 28 2015Crawford (oblique) may not return this weekend but the team believes he could be back for Monday's series opener against the Dodgers, Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News reports. The team had previously expected Crawford to return at some point during the Giants' series against the Cardinals, but now it looks more likely that he comes back for the start of the Giants' crucial series against the Dodgers.
Aug 28 2015Crawford (oblique) is out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals.Friday marks Crawford's third consecutive game missed due to "mild" oblique soreness, but the Giants believe he'll be back at some point during this weekend's series. Ehire Adrianza will get another start at short Friday while Crawford remains sidelined.
Aug 27 2015Crawford (oblique) remains out of the lineup Thursday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. He referred to his oblique soreness as mild Wednesday and expects to be back sometime this weekend. Ehire Adrianza will get the start at shortstop and bat eighth Thursday.
Aug 26 2015Crawford left in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game after tweaking his left side and back during an at-bat in the sixth inning, Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News reports.Manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Crawford would be able to return to the Giants' lineup Wednesday, so the injury does not sound too serious. Ehire Adrianza would figure to get the start if Crawford was forced to miss further time.
Aug 26 2015Crawford, who is out of the lineup Wednesday, referred to his oblique soreness as mild, and expects to only miss a couple days, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports.Crawford was held out of Wednesday's lineup as a precaution, as the shortstop had to exit Tuesday evening's contest due to side tightness. Although he won't be available Wednesday night, it sounds as if he'll be able to avoid a DL stint, which is good news for fantasy owners making their final playoff pushes.
Aug 26 2015Crawford (side) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.Jake Arrieta got Crawford swinging with two on and two out in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game, and Crawford reportedly tweaked his left side and back on the whiff. The extent of the injury is uncertain, but Crawford will miss at least one start as a result, affording Ehire Adrianza an opportunity at shortstop.
Aug 20 2015Crawford went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run Wednesday against the Cardinals, pushing his hitting streak to 13 games. He hasn't hit a homer since the first game of the hitting streak, but Crawford's provided a parade of doubles while continuing to build on his impressive counting stats. His breakout season has been nothing short of a revelation for fantasy owners and the Giants alike.
Aug 7 2015Crawford went yard for the 19th time in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.Crawford continued his recent power surge, hitting his third homer in his last three games. His batting average has come back down to earth (.263), but he is putting together a career year in terms of power, crushing his previous career-high of 10 home runs and already tying his career-high of 69 RBI. No one could have saw this coming, so owners who believed in Crawford early on are reaping the benefits now. It will be hard to evaluate him going into next year, as his HR/FB rate of 18.6% is more than double his career rate. That will be a bridge to cross in the offseason, as for now, Crawford should be viewed as a top-5 fantasy shortstop.
Aug 5 2015Crawford is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Braves.Ehire Adrianza will get the start at shortstop as Crawford sits against right-hander Williams Perez. There has been nothing from the team to suggest Crawford is injured, so this looks like merely a day off for the 28-year-old after 22 straight starts.
Aug 3 2015Crawford homered twice, his 17th and 18th, in Monday's loss to Atlanta. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBI.Crawford now has the home run lead among shortstops all to himself. He also leads shortstops in slugging percentage (.492) and isolated power (.225). Crawford's power is shocking consider his previous career highs in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.389). He never even topped 10 home runs in a minor league season, so don't worry too much if you didn't see this coming either.
Aug 1 2015Crawford went yard for the 16th time this season in Friday's loss to the Rangers.Crawford has seen his bat heat up over the past nine games, going 11-for-32 (.344) with four homers and nine RBI over that span. While he won't likely win any batting titles during his career, Crawford has developed into quite the slugging shortstop this season. His 16 homers and 64 RBI rank first among all major league shortstops.
Jul 22 2015Crawford went 1-for-4 against the Padres on Wednesday, homering for the second straight game and drawing a walk. After his red-hot month of May, Crawford slumped to a .217 average in June and is still at only .246 in July, but his pop has shown up fairly consistently. He's also heated up since the All-Star break, having gone 8-for-26 (.308) with those two homers and a pair of doubles.
Jul 22 2015Crawford hit his 13th home run Tuesday in a win over San Diego, part of a 3-for-4 night with three RBI.Crawford has found another hot streak after a roughly June and early July. Over his last seven games, Crawford is 11-for-29 with four extra-base hits, good for a .379/.400/.621 line over that stretch. His .471 slugging percentage trails just Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki and St. Louis's Jhonny Peralta among shortstops.
Jul 12 2015Crawford went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and his 52nd RBI in Saturday's win over the Phillies.Crawford has really cooled off after a strong start to the season. With a .188 batting average in July along with a .217 average in June, May's .340/.386/.528 slash line is starting to look more and more like an outlier. He is still providing power stats (12 homers and 52 RBI) from a usually powerless position, but he is definitely going to go through stretches where hits are few and far between.
Jul 6 2015Crawford smacked his 12th home run of the season Sunday, a solo-shot in the loss to the Nationals.June was Crawford's worst month of the year, as he slashed just .217/.308/.402 with three homers. Although his batting average sits at a paltry .176 through five July games, he does already have two bombs. A career .246 hitter, it was unrealistic to expect Crawford to continue to bat .300-plus on the year, but the new development in power appears to be real.
Jul 1 2015Crawford hit a solo shot - his 11th of the year - in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.Crawford had come back down to Earth in June (.217/.308/.402) after a torrid month of May (.340/.386/.528). His overall numbers still look great for a shortstop, and Wednesday's homer could break Crawford out of his slump.
Jun 18 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday against the Mariners.Crawford's absence Thursday likely relates to the left-handed Mike Montgomery on the mound for the Mariners. He's gone 0-for-7 with three strikeouts in the past two contests, so perhaps a day off will do him some good. The Giants will turn to Joaquin Arias (batting ninth) at shortstop Thursday in his place.
Jun 12 2015Crawford batted sixth and went 1-for-4 with his ninth homer of the season in Thursday's loss to the Mets. The home run came off of Mets' lefty Jon Niese, and was Crawford's third long ball off of a lefty this season. He is actually raking against fellow southpaws, slashing an incredible .422/.480/.733 on the year.
Jun 3 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.Crawford has dominated all aspects of the game so far this season, slashing .297/.369/.511 while offering plus defense at shortstop. He has two home runs in his last three games and should be back in the lineup in short order. Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop and hit eighth Wednesday.
Jun 1 2015Crawford's only hit Sunday was a solo blast in the second inning of the loss to the Braves.Crawford went back-to-back with his teammate Brandon Belt on Sunday. The Brandons have carried the Giants' offense to a 21-win month of May and they are tied for the team lead with seven home runs each. Crawford is well on his way to surpass his career-high of 10 home runs. While a slight regression is likely, there is no reason to not continue riding arguably the best shortstop in fantasy this season.
May 30 2015Crawford continued his breakout season Friday, going 2-for-4 with his 33rd RBI and third stolen base of the season in the win over the Braves.Surprisingly, Crawford has been far better against left-handed pitching (.417/.488/.722) that he has against righties (.269/.345/.438). There are a couple of red flags when looking at Crawford's underlying numbers. His BABIP is currently .352, which is more than 50 points higher than his career average. Also, his 14.0 HR/FB ratio is an extreme outlier. It's not inconceivable that he has simply developed into a well-polished hitter at age 28, but the numbers indicate there will be a slight regression as the season carries on. Regardless, owners should continue to enjoy the ride as Crawford has been the best shortstop in fantasy so far this season.
May 24 2015Crawford is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports.Crawford played all 18 innings of Saturday's doubleheader, and will get the day off as a result. Joaquin Arias will take his place at shortstop for the afternoon contest.
May 24 2015Crawford went 3-for-9 with a double, a triple and three RBI during Saturday's doubleheader in Colorado. It was a long, rainy day, but Crawford wasn't bothered, as he extended his hitting streak by two games in one day -- it's now at nine. Amazingly, he's only struck out twice in that span. Always considered a defensive specialist, Crawford has never posted a full-season average over .249, but has been quite arguably the best-hitting shortstop in fantasy so far this year.
May 23 2015Crawford went 1-for-5 while scoring a run and plating another in Friday's win over the Rockies. While it's mostly been a product of circumstance, Crawford has accrued 11 RBI over his last seven games, during which he's gone 11-for-23 at the dish. With the Giants due to play three more games at Coors Field over the weekend, Crawford's production might not be headed for much of a slowdown in the immediate future.
May 21 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Thursday against the Dodgers. Most hitters struggle against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, but Crawford has been especially bad. He has just one hit in 18 career at-bats with Kershaw on the mound, which is why he's out of the lineup Thursday. Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop and hit seventh.
May 12 2015Crawford (general soreness) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros. After 10 consecutive starts, Crawford sat out Sunday's series finale against the Marlins with general body soreness. Crawford's rest spanned two days as the Giants were off Monday, so he should be close to fully charged when he takes on Houston right-hander Collin McHugh.
May 10 2015Crawford is dealing with "general soreness," which is why he's getting Sunday's game off, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The wear-and-tear of the season is starting to take its toll with the Giants, who will have three regulars out on Sunday.
May 10 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.Crawford will get a routine day off after starting 10 straight for the Giants. Matt Duffy will man shortstop in his stead.
May 9 2015Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the 6-2 loss to the Marlins Saturday.Crawford has had a productive season thus far hitting five homers and grabbing 16 RBI in 31 games. Crawford has had a nice five-game stretch, grabbing six hits in those games. Look for him to continue to be productive as he has improved every season since being called up to the majors.
May 3 2015Crawford went 2-for-4 Saturday with two runs scored and a solo home run, his fifth blast of the season. He's already half way to last season's career-high 10 homers, and Crawford is hitting a cool .300 (9-for-30) over his last 10 games. It may not be long before he works his way out of the eight hole in the Giants' lineup, and into at least a slightly better run-producing spot.
Apr 30 2015Crawford had a big day at the plate Wednesday, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and his team-leading fourth home runs of the season. The free-swinging Crawford is never going to hit for a high average, but his four home runs is tied for best among shortstops and he has an .821 OPS despite his .235 batting average. If you didn't snag a premium shortstop in this year's drafts, Crawford is definitely a player worth considering for teams that need some extra pop from a position that doesn't usually supply it.
Apr 30 2015Crawford had a big day at the plate Wednesday, going 2-for-3 with a double, his fourth home run and two RBI.The free-swinging Crawford is never going to hit for a high average, but his team-leading four home runs are tied for the most among shortstops and he has an .821 OPS despite his .235 batting average. If you didn't snag a premium shortstop in this year's drafts, Crawford is worth considering for some extra pop from a position that doesn't usually supply it.
Apr 28 2015Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.Crawford started last Wednesday against Clayton Kershaw, but went 0-for-1 against the lefty and is now just 1-for-18 in his career against the reigning NL MVP. Joaquin Arias will get the nod at short Tuesday and bat eighth against Kershaw.
Apr 19 2015Crawford clubbed his third homer of the season Saturday.Despite hitting just .163, Crawford has shown increased power early in the year. He set a career-high in homers with 10 last season, but he is currently on pace to best that total in 2015.
Apr 17 2015Crawford went 1-for-3 with his second home run of the season in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.Crawford's two-run shot came off of left-handed reliever, Oliver Perez, in the seventh inning. Despite being a left-hander himself, Crawford actually had an OPS of .879 against southpaws last year, compared to an OPS of .637 against righties, a stat Diamondbacks' manager Chip Hale failed to notice Thursday night. The homer broke an 0-for-23 streak at the plate for Crawford.
Apr 15 2015Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News' Alex Pavlovic reports.About half of the Giants' regulars are out of action Wednesday and Crawford is among them. Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop and Crawford should be back in the lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Apr 12 2015Crawford moved up from eighth to fifth in the batting order for Sunday's game against the Padres.Crawford has gone without a hit in his past three games. He is batting .227 on the year. This move could be to try to get him out of his short hit-less streak.
Apr 8 2015Crawford stayed hot Tuesday, going 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Diamondbacks.Crawford's homer came off of the hard-throwing Rubby De La Rosa in the sixth inning. He now has two extra-base hits through the Giants' first two games. Crawford has a tendency to be a streaky hitter, so now is the time to grab him if you need a hot middle-infielder to start the year.
Apr 6 2015Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI in the the Giants' season-opening win over the Diamondbacks.Crawford got off to a strong start in 2015 after putting up career-highs in homers (10) and stolen bases (five) last season. He has proven to be a streaky hitter and can be a drain on batting average, but Crawford does offer decent pop and low-end speed from the shortstop position.
Mar 8 2015Crawford (shoulder) will return to shortstop Wednesday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.Crawford has been held out of the field since Wednesday, and he's on track to return exactly a week later. With no indication that the injury is serious, Crawford should be the Giants' Opening Day shortstop.
Mar 6 2015Crawford (shoulder) could return to his position at shortstop Monday or Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford's shoulder soreness was believed to be minor, and his expected return to the field defensively confirms that. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he should be fine moving forward and for Opening Day.
Mar 4 2015Crawford won't play in the field until next week due to shoulder soreness, but the issue is not believed to be serious, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford is in Wednesday's lineup as the designated hitter, but will rest his shoulder defensively. The issue doesn't appear to be anything too serious, but it could be something to monitor.
Jan 27 2015Crawford agreed to a one-year, $3.175 million contract with the Giants to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.Locked in as the Giants' starting shortstop, Crawford is coming off the finest offensive season of his career, having posted a .246/.324/.389 slash line in 2014, with 10 home runs, 69 RBI, 54 runs and five stolen bases. He oddly had a massive reverse-platoon split, which can largely be explained by his .404 BABIP against left-handed pitchers, compared to a .262 mark versus right-handers. His career-long numbers hint at a slight preference for facing right-handers, as he strikes out much more often against southpaws, but also hits more ground balls. Given his middling power and cavernous home park, Crawford probably doesn't want to put too many balls in the air.
Sep 24 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. This was likely a no-brainer for manager Bruce Bochy, as Crawford is just 1-for-17 with six strikeouts in his career against Wednesday's starter Clayton Kershaw. Joaquin Arias will take over at short, but look for Crawford to be back in there Thursday to face the Padres' Andrew Cashner.
Sep 17 2014Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's win over Arizona.Crawford has been heating up at the plate over his last six games, going 8-for-20 (.400) with a homer and six RBI over that span. Sep 14 2014Crawford is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, according to Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News.Crawford, who tallied five hits over his last four games, will sit in favor of Joaquin Arias with the Giants facing Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on Sunday.
Sep 12 2014Crawford doubled, homered, and walked in four plate appearances Friday against the Dodgers.Yes, sometimes he does look like a legitimate offensive threat. Crawford is still batting just .238/.320/.381, but with nine homers, at least he has a little pop for a middle infielder.
Sep 9 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.A pair of three-hit games this month has helped ease concerns regarding Crawford's bat, but with lefty Wade Miley on the hill for Arizona on Tuesday, manager Bruce Bochy will turn to Joaquin Arias to man short. Crawford may very well continue to sit against tough lefties, but he should be in there to face nearly all opposing right-handers.
Sep 7 2014Crawford (shoulder/hip) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Tigers.Crawford was officially listed as taking a rest day Saturday despite the hip and shoulder injuries, and it appears justified as he is back in the lineup today, batting ninth.
Sep 6 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Saturday against the Tigers.Crawford missed some time late last month with a shoulder concern, but his absence Saturday doesn't appear to be related. Rather, it seems manager Bruce Bochy is just sitting Crawford with tough lefty David Price on the hill for Detroit. Matt Duffy gets the nod at short.
Sep 6 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Saturday with a sore hip and shoulder, CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly reports.Crawford will receive some treatment Saturday, and it's just being labeled a rest day, so he should be back in the lineup in short order. Matt Duffy will get the start at shortstop Saturday.
Aug 31 2014Crawford (shoulder) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and his fourth stolen base of the season Saturday.Crawford has been battling a minor shoulder injury for almost a week now, but Saturday's performance is a good sign that he is starting to overcome it. He is known for getting hot for stretches of time, so if he truly is over the shoulder soreness, then Saturday's multi-hit game may be the start of something.
Aug 30 2014Crawford (shoulder) returned to the lineup Friday and went 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.Fortunately for Crawford owners, the shoulder injury that caused him to miss Thursday's game doesn't seem to be too serious, but it's an ailment that bothered him for nearly a week prior to the brief absence.
Aug 28 2014Crawford will miss Thursday's game due to a sore shoulder, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford said his shoulder has been bothering him for the past four-to-five days, likely explaining why he was held out of the lineup Wednesday as well. The issue primarily presents problems for Crawford only when he throws, so he would still seem to be available off the bench Thursday as a pinch-hitting option.
Aug 27 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday.Matt Duffy will get the rare start at shortstop. It's a surprising move, as Franklin Morales (a lefty) is pitching for Colorado, and Crawford is hitting .287 against southpaws this season.

Crawford's offensive struggles really date back to July 1 or so, but it does not sound like his job is in jeopardy at this point.
Aug 9 2014Crawford will likely sit out Sunday's series finale against the Royals, Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News reports.General manager Bruce Bochy noted Saturday that he may ultimately give Crawford the day off Sunday to clear his head. If he does sit, a likely replacement will be Matt Duffy.
Aug 1 2014Crawford went 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and a run scored in Friday's 5-1 win over the Mets. After struggling to a lowly .173/.300/.227 slash line with just two extra-base hits across 90 plate appearances in July, this was obviously an encouraging effort for Crawford. Even with the awful month at the plate, the 27-year-old shortstop is in the midst of his best offensive season and could be a decent option down the stretch in deeper leagues.
Jul 24 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Thursday against the Phillies.Manager Bruce Bochy will turn to Joaquin Arias to man short with a left-hander in Cole Hamels on the mound for Philly. Crawford has yet to face Hamels, and he's posted a .937 OPS against lefties this season, but he's hit just .238/.306/.353 against southpaws for his career.
Jul 23 2014Crawford had a strong day at the plate in Tuesday's 14-inning win, going 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored, and four RBI.Crawford is a streaky hitter, but the overall results have been positive this season. The .239 average has been nothing to write home about, but his eight home runs rank eighth and his 44 RBI rank seventh among all shortstops in the majors. He is proving to be more than just a NL-only/deep option this season.
Jul 20 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.Crawford has made three straight starts for the Giants, but will sit in favor of Joaquin Arias for the Sunday afternoon tilt. With lefty Brad Hand set to take the mound for Miami, manager Bruce Bochy likely wanted to get another right-handed bat in his lineup.
Jul 19 2014Crawford went 1-for-2 with a a homer and three RBI in Friday's win over the Marlins.A nice start to the second half for Crawford after struggling offensively throughout the month of July (.175/.292/.250). He has a tendency to be a bit streaky, so Friday's home run could be the start of a hot streak.
Jul 12 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.Crawford will turn over shortstop duties to Joaquis Arias with a left-hander in Wade Miley toeing the rubber for Arizona. The 27-year-old Crawford is 6-for-36 (.167 average) without an extra-base hit in July, but his starting job does not appear to be in jeopardy.
Jun 23 2014Crawford went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI batting out of the five-hole in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. With a couple of the Giants' regulars ailing from injuries, Crawford was asked to move up in the lineup and he delivered Sunday. He continues to quietly put together a solid season as his .796 OPS ranks fourth among National League shortstops.
Jun 18 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It would appear that Crawford's absence from the lineup is just a concerted effort by manager Bruce Bochy to get as many right-handed bats as possible to oppose tough White Sox lefty Chris Sale. Ehire Adrianza will step in to man shortstop in place of Crawford.
Jun 13 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Friday, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports. It's a rare day off for Crawford, Ehire Adrianza will make the spot start at short for the Giants.
Jun 12 2014Crawford went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.Crawford has gotten off to a hot start in June, going 12-for-34 (.353) with a homer and 10 RBI through 10 games. He is a very streaky hitter and seems to be in the midst of a hot streak right now.
Jun 8 2014Crawford had a solid day at the plate Sunday, going 2-for-3 and hitting his 12th double of the year while also driving in a run and scoring two runs on the day.In his last seven games, Crawford is batting .367 with one home run, three doubles, eight RBI and six runs scored. Jun 5 2014Crawford went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk Thursday against the Reds.He hasn't been getting a lot of hits -- his last multi-hit contest was May 21 in Colorado -- but Crawford's been productive over the last few games. Though he's only 3-for-13 (.231) in that span, all three hits have gone for extra bases, he's walked four times, and he's collected five RBI and three runs.
May 31 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday against the Cardinals.Crawford has notched just one base hit in his last four games, with his average dropping from .252 to .237 over that span. He'll get a day to get his head together Saturday as Ehire Adrianza takes over at short, and with Brandon Hicks also struggling at the plate (.185 average), Adrianza may factor in more at both middle infield spots moving forward.
May 21 2014Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.Crawford isn't hitting for a great average (.248), but he is supplying plenty of power from the short stop position. His .782 OPS ranks eighth in the majors for short stops.
May 14 2014Crawford belted his fifth homer of the season Wednesday, collecting two runs and three RBI in win over the Braves.Crawford has already matched his pre-All-Star break home run total (five) from a year ago. He is on pace to finally break the double-digit mark in long balls for the first time in his career. Crawford remains a deep league option at the short stop position, but he has the potential to be more if he continues to flash the power like he has through the first quarter of the season.
May 11 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.Crawford has been the primary shortstop for the Giants, starting 16 straight games, but will give way to Elhire Adrianza with the tough lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound. Crawford has hit .281 with three home runs in the month of May, and will likely be available off the bench if a pinch hitter is needed.
May 10 2014Crawford homered, scored one run and knocked in two runners on two hits in four at-bats.It was Crawford's fourth HR of the season in a game where he was the only Giants hitter to pick up two hits on the night. Crawford doesn't exceed in any one area, but does contribute across the board in all hitting categories.
May 4 2014Crawford belted two home runs in Sunday's victory over the Braves, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.Crawford provided the offensive spark for the Giants on Sunday, driving in three of the team's four runs scored. Crawford's power showcase brought his season OPS up to .834, although fantasy owners wouldn't be wise to pick him up chasing power numbers, as the 27-year-old has never eclipsed 10 homers in a season.
Apr 22 2014Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.Since returning to the lineup Friday after missing two starts with a hamstring injury, Crawford is just 1-for-12 with four strikeouts. He'll get a day to get his head together Tuesday, as Ehire Adrianza mans short and bats eighth against left-hander Franklin Morales.
Apr 18 2014Crawford (hamstring) is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.Hamstring tightness cost Crawford two starts, but he's been cleared to return to the lineup Friday against right-hander Tyson Ross. Crawford failed to record a hit in a pinch-hit appearance Thursday, snapping his seven-game hitting streak.
Apr 17 2014Crawford (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.Crawford hoped to be in the lineup for Thursday's game, but it appears his hamstring is still a little sore, and he remains day-to-day for now. Joaquin Arias will receive another start in Crawford's place Thursday afternoon.
Apr 16 2014Crawford is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, the Giants' official site reports. This is a somewhat surprising scratch, considering the Dodgers are starting southpaw Paul Maholm and Crawford has been mashing lefties so far this year (7-for-14 with five extra-base hits). Nonetheless, Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop Wednesday.
Apr 16 2014Crawford is dealing with tightness in his right hamstring, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports.Crawford wasn't present in Wednesday's lineup, and this report of a sore hamstring helps provide an explanation. The good news is that the injury doesn't appear to be overly serious, as Crawford fully expects to be in the Giants' starting lineup Thursday. The 27-year-old Crawford is off to a hot start, going 14-of-44 at the plate with eight RBI and seven extra base hits.
Apr 13 2014Crawford continued his modest six-game hitting streak in a big way Sunday, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and the game-winning solo blast in the 10-inning win over Colorado.Crawford's game-ending homer was an absolute bomb, easily clearing the brick wall in right field and landing in McCovey Cove. He may have reached back a little further after having a home run robbed by the confines of AT&T Park this past Friday. Crawford is really locked in at the plate right now, hitting .381 with a homer and six RBI over his last six games. He is player that goes through a couple of red-hot stretches during the season. Make sure to get in on some of the action while he is on this current streak.
Apr 12 2014Crawford went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rockies.Crawford hit a towering triple off the brick wall in right-center Saturday, a ball that would have left the park at almost any other venue. He is beginning to heat up over the past four games, collecting six hits and four RBI while raising his batting average from .211 to .303 over that span. Crawford's lack of significant power and speed limit hit from a fantasy perspective, but he does tend to get streaky, and he appears to be in the midst of a hot streak right now.
Apr 4 2014Crawford is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, according to the San Jose Mercury News.Crawford is 4-for-13 (.308) through four games this season, but given his career .578 OPS against left-handers, he will he held out against Dodgers southpaw Hyun-Jin Ryu. Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop Friday afternoon.
Mar 31 2014Crawford will not play against some left-handed pitchers, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford's a defensive-minded shortstop in the first place, and his track record against southpaws is particularly hideous, as evidenced by a .214/.272/.297 career slash line. He's not particularly effective against right-handers, either, but his .250/.315/.363 slash line against them is perfectly acceptable for a glove-first player at a premium position. This isn't a straight platoon at the moment, but Crawford will have to show improvement against lefties, or it could become exactly that. For now, look for Crawford to sit against some but not all southpaws, with Joaquin Arias shifting over to shortstop in those games and Brandon Hicks at second base.
Sep 29 2013Crawford (oblique) left Sunday's game with a strained oblique, the Sacramento Bee reports.Crawford felt the oblique continue to worsen as he took swings on Sunday, and eventually left the game. He will get an MRI on Tuesday to ensure there isn't anything more serious. With the Giants out of contention for postseason play, Crawford will have plenty of time to nurse the injury, and should be penciled in as the Giants' starting shortstop in 2014.
Sep 28 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday against the Padres, the San Jose Mercury News reports.Manager Bruce Bochy will go with a right-handed heavy lineup to counter opposing starting pitcher Eric Stults. Ehire Adrianza finds himself in the lineup at shortstop.
Sep 24 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Monday against the Dodgers.Ehire Adrianza went 1-for-3 with a homer while filling in for Crawford on Sunday, and the Giants will reward Adrianza with another start against a lefty Tuesday. Look for Crawford to be in the lineup for the final two games of the Dodgers series, with a couple of right-handers due up for Los Angeles.
Sep 22 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Sunday against the Yankees. The Yanks are trotting out a lefty in Andy Pettitte, so manager Bruce Bochy will take the opportunity to get Crawford a breather. The 26-year-old Crawford is batting .200 on the year against southpaws.
Sep 19 2013Crawford is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.As has often been the case over the last couple weeks, Crawford will be held out with a left-hander on the mound for the opponent. Ehire Adrianza will make his first major league start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Sep 13 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, the San Jose Mercury News reports.Crawford's poor numbers against left-handers this season likely explain his absence with Clayton Kershaw starting for the Dodgers. Joaquin Arias will fill in for Crawford at shortstop.
Sep 10 2013Crawford is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.Crawford is hitting just .206 against left-handers this season, so manager Bruce Bochy decided to give him a day off with the Giants facing lefty Jorge De La Rosa on Tuesday. Joaquin Arias will get the start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Sep 6 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, CSN Bay Area reports. It appears manager Bruce Bochy is just playing matchups with tough lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Arizona. The right-handed hitting Joaquin Arias will man shortstop in place of Crawford.
Sep 4 2013Crawford hit his ninth home run of the season - a solo shot - in Wednesday's win over San Diego.Crawford has been ice cold over his past seven games, going 2-for-25 with no counting stats over that span. He tends to be a bit streaky at times, so Wednesday's home run could be a sign that he is about to heat up.
Aug 18 2013Crawford went 2-for-4 with his eighth home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.Crawford's breakout season continued with Sunday's performance. His glove has always been top notch, but the offense is starting to develop for the young shortstop. His .274 average and eight long balls have put Crawford on the fantasy map this season. Of his eight homers this year, six of them have come on the road, showing just how brutal AT&T Park can be on left-handed batters.
Aug 17 2013Crawford went 2-for-6 with a pair of runs scored in Friday's win over Miami.Since being moved into the two-hole on August 5, Crawford has been hitting .292 (12-for-41) with four runs scored and one RBI. The counting stats aren't there (more of a result of the struggling Giants' offense), but the fact that he is continuing to swing the bat well in a higher pressure spot in the lineup bodes well for the young shortstop. He should continue to bat second against righties for the remainder of the season and could be a fixture there next year if he continues to handle it well.
Aug 10 2013Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday against the Orioles, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Crawford seems to be just getting the day off with lefty Wei-Yin Chen on the hill for the Orioles. Joaquin Arias gets the start at shortstop.
Aug 4 2013Crawford went 1-for-4 with a triple and a pair of RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rays.Crawford tacked on another solid performance to his successful road trip. He didn't hit much for average in the six game trip (.227), but he smacked a pair of homers and drove in six RBI over that span. With talks of changes atop the Giants' lineup starting Monday, Crawford could see more opportunities in the two-hole given his recent success at the plate.
Aug 1 2013Crawford went deep for the sixth time this season in Wednesday's win over the Phillies. The home run was Crawford's first since April 27. In fact, all five of his long balls came during his red-hot month to start the season. He hasn't offered much in terms of counting stats this season, but this home run could spark some life into his bat.
Aug 1 2013Crawford is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies, the San Jose Mercury News' Alex Pavlovic reports.Crawford and Joaquin Arias appear to be in a platoon, although the Giants faced a left-handed starter on Tuesday and Crawford still got the start. As a left-handed batter, Crawford naturally figures to see more playing time than Arias, plus it seems as if he may occasionally start against left-handed pitching.
Jul 28 2013Crawford is out of the starting lineup again Sunday.Another lefty on the mound for Chicago will keep Crawford on the bench for a second straight day.
Jul 27 2013Crawford is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Cubs. The Giants are facing a left-hander in Chris Rusin, so manager Bruce Bochy will take the opportunity to get the recently-activated Joaquin Arias back in the mix at short.
Jul 21 2013Crawford (foot/ankle) is in the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.Crawford was removed from the lineup Saturday due to a bruise foot, but came on later in the game to pinch-hit and play shortstop. He should be considered healthy going forward.

Tony Abreu figures to remain at shortstop until Crawford's ready to go.
Jul 14 2013Crawford is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports. The 26-year-old will get an early start on his vacation with Tony Abreu getting the start at shortstop against left-hander Eric Stults. Crawford had four multi-hit efforts in a five-game span to begin the week.
Jul 10 2013Crawford went 2-for-4 Wednesday afternoon and knocked in a run as the Giants fell to the Mets. With one hit in the nine games preceding the Giants' series with the Mets, Crawford had a complete turnaround this series, collecting seven hits in 14 at bats. San Francisco's shortstop raised his average 11 points in the three-day span.
Jun 29 2013Crawford's recent struggles continued, as he went 0-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Rockies.Crawford has been mired in a slump over the last couple of weeks, batting just .121 (4-for-33) with no home runs or RBI over his last 10 contests. He has been moved back down to eighth in the order, after failing to produce when given a chance higher in the lineup this month. A career .247 hitter, no one expected Crawford's early-season success to continue at that pace, but his production has really fallen off the table as of late. It's advisable to look at other options at shortstop until Crawford can correct his issues at the plate.
Jun 25 2013Crawford - who was supposed to get a day off Monday - was called upon to enter the game after Joaquin Arias came up lame with a hamstring strain in the second inning of the loss to the Dodgers.Crawford was supposed to get the night off with the Dodgers tossing a lefty on the mound Monday, but an injury forced him into action. His performance at the plate (0-for-3 with a GIDP) showed why manager Bruce Bochy wanted to rest him against the left-handed Ryu. On the year, Crawford is hitting just .239 against southpaws compared to .301 against righties.
Jun 24 2013Crawford is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Dodgers, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports. In two games since missing three starts with a finger injury, Crawford has gone 1-for-8 with three strikeouts. He's also 0-for-6 so far this year against left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, Monday's starter Los Angeles, so the Giants will have Crawford sit again while Joaquin Arias mans short.
Jun 23 2013Crawford (finger) returned to the lineup Saturday and went 0-for-4 batting sixth.Crawford didn't do much from a fantasy perspective, but he made a couple of impressive defensive plays in the win over Miami. The fact that he was back in the lineup and did not suffer any setbacks bodes well for his prospects going forward.
Jun 21 2013Manager Bruce Bochy said Crawford (finger) would likely return to the lineup Saturday, CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford has been limited to a bench role for the past four games since he still had some issues throwing the ball in light of the finger injury, but it now appears he's close to fully healed. The 26-year-old has made considerable strides in his third season with the Giants, batting .288 with a career-high five home runs.
Jun 21 2013Crawford (finger) remains out of the starting lineup Friday against the Marlins.A couple of sprained fingers will keep Crawford out of the lineup for a third straight game. The 26-year-old was used as a pinch runner Wednesday, and was reportedly available off the bench Thursday, but Crawford's availability to start Saturday is up in the air at this point.
Jun 20 2013Crawford said his injured fingers are feeling "significantly better" so he will try to hit and throw before Thursday's game, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports.Crawford isn't in the starting lineup Thursday, and while we doubt that he'll be used off the bench as anything other than a pinch-runner, it can't be ruled out at this juncture. Fantasy owners should probably just hope that Crawford can return to the lineup Friday.
Jun 20 2013Crawford (finger) will be available off the bench Thursday night, CSN's Andrew Baggarly reports.Crawford was used as a pinch runner in Wednesday's game, so we're assuming this means that he's now available as a hitter and fielder as well. It would seem that he has a good chance to return to the starting lineup Friday, though fantasy owners who set daily lineups may want to check back in before starting Crawford.
Jun 20 2013Crawford (finger) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.Crawford was not expected to start Thursday due to his injured finger, so it should come as little surprise that he will sit out. Joaquin Arias will get another start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Jun 19 2013Crawford (finger) is not starting Wednesday against the Padres but is available to pinch run, CSN Bay Area reports. Furthermore, he is unlikely to start Thursday against the Marlins.Crawford is currently sporting a sprained middle and index finger, which is likely hindering most baseball activities at the moment. As long as he remains out, Joaquin Arias should earn most of the reps at shortstop.
Jun 19 2013Crawford (finger) is not in the Giants' lineup Wednesday against the Padres.Crawford left Tuesday's outing due to a sprained middle and index finger, as he was both hit by a pitch and jammed his hand sliding headfirst into a base. In his stead, Joaquin Arias is manning shortstop and batting fifth in the order Wednesday.
Jun 18 2013Crawford left Tuesday's game with an undisclosed injury, CSN Bay Area reports.Crawford was hit by a pitch early in the game and appeared to jam his hand while sliding into a base. While he likely is not seriously injured, his status is something to keep an eye on going forward.

He brought his average back up to .292 with five homers and 26 RBI on the year. Going undrafted in most leagues this year, Crawford has proven to be a valuable fantasy asset at the shortstop position.
Jun 1 2013Crawford went 3-for-4 with three singles in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.Crawford was the only Giant who was really able to get anything going offensively Saturday, and he raised his average to .293 on the season. Crawford has now reached base safely in nine consecutive games.
May 19 2013Crawford went collected a pair of hits while batting second for the Giants on Sunday.Crawford moved up to second in the lineup with Marco Scutaro (who normally bats there) getting the day off. This was obviously just a one-game roster move, but it does indicate that Crawford would be used atop the lineup should either Angel Pagan or Marco Scutaro miss an extended period of time.
May 16 2013Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a trio of RBI in Thursday's win over Colorado. The three RBI matched a season high for Crawford. He had cooled off after a torrid start to the season, but he has now recorded a hit in eight of his last nine games. He could be be a useful option at the shortstop position with three more games on tap in hitter-friendly Coors Field.
May 11 2013Crawford went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored against the Braves on Friday. After a brutal 2-for-32 stretch that knocked his average down as low as .243, Crawford has seemingly turned things back on lately. He has now hit safely in each of his last four games and is batting .400 (6-for-15) over that span. He doesn't have a home run or RBI since the first of the month, but he's never been expected to rack up decent power numbers in the first place.

He is batting just .111 (4-for-36) with one home run dating back to April 26th. He has never been known for his hitting ability, so a regression had to be expected.
May 3 2013Crawford is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, according to CSN's Amy Gutierrez.Crawford is 2-for-21 over his last six games, and with Dodgers ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw on Friday, things wouldn't get any easier for him Friday. Joaquin Arias will start at shortstop in Crawford's place.
Apr 27 2013Crawford went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and a caught stealing in the Giants' loss to the Padres on Saturday.Crawford's early-season power continues to surprise. His fifth home run of the season already exceeds his total from 2012.
Apr 24 2013Crawford fell a triple short of the cycle Wednesday, finishing with a 3-for-4 day with a double and a home run against the Diamondbacks.Crawford supplied all of the Giants offense in this game as his home run in the bottom of the ninth sent the game into extra innings. He had cooled off in the past week after starting the season off on a tear. He continues to be a nice surprise at the shortstop position.
Apr 23 2013Crawford went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI Tuesday.Crawford has really cooled off after his torrid start to the season. He is hitting just .118 (2-for-17) in his last five games. Crawford had a line of .248/.304/.349 in 435 at-bats last season, so it was unlikely that he would have continue to hit above .300.
Apr 18 2013Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double and his third homer in Thursday's loss to the Brewers, stretching his hitting streak to 11 games.Obviously, Crawford's been red-hot, showing hitting ability -- not to mention power -- that we've really never seen from him before in either the majors or minors. With a .381 BABIP, his .352 average is liable to drop, but it's starting to look like the extra-base ability he's shown early on this year could persist, at least to some degree.
Apr 16 2013Crawford went deep for the second time this season, finishing with with a 2-for-4 day with a pair of runs in the loss to Milwaukee.Crawford is currently touting a 10-game hitting streak and seems locked in at the plate. This kind of production likely won't last for the light-hitting Crawford, but he is definitely worth a look while he is hot for those who need help at shortstop .
Apr 10 2013Crawford hit his first home run of the season, an opposite-field three-run shot, in Tuesday's win over the Rockies. While the home run was nice, it can't be something to count on from Crawford. He then said something to the first base umpire in the eighth inning about that play after grounding out.
Jul 21 2012Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports. It's surprising to see Crawford out of the lineup since he has two home runs in his last nine at-bats after hitting only one in his first 266 at-bats this season. As is almost always the case, the large sample size is far more indicative of Crawford's talent than the small one, but it's still odd that Giants manager Bruce Bochy doesn't want to go with the hot hand. Joaquin Arias isn't any better than Crawford at the plate, and hasn't done much lately, but he will get the start at shortstop Saturday.
Jul 20 2012Crawford was 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a grand slam home run in the Giants win over Philadelphia on Friday night.A huge night for the normally light-hitting shortstop who is batting just .240 for the season. It was just his third home run, and only increased his RBI total to 29 so he has not been a huge fantasy asset.
Jul 13 2012Crawford will not start Friday against the Astros, the Giants' official Twitter page reports. It appears to just be a day off for Crawford. Joaquin Arias will start instead.

May 7 2012Crawford is on the bench against Dodgers lefty Ted Lilly on Monday, the Giants' official Twitter feed reports. He's sat in three of the Giants' last four games, but two of those absences have come with a left-handed starter on the mound, so Crawford may still have the better share of a platoon with Joaquin Arias at the present time.
May 5 2012Crawford is on the bench again Saturday, the Giants' official Twitter feed reports.Joaquin Arias is playing shortstop for the Giants on Saturday after getting the nod Friday as well. May 3 2012Crawford struck out in both of his at-bats and committed two errors in Thursday's loss to Miami.Crawford is now batting just .208 on the season, but more disturbing, he's already committed six errors, second-most among NL shortstops. He's known as a plus defender, and with such a weak bat, he needs to live up to that reputation. Manager Bruce Bochy gave him a vote of confidence after the game, but Crawford could soon start losing playing time if he doesn't get better fast.
May 1 2012Crawford is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins, according to the Giants' official Twitter page.Crawford sat out the Giants' last game Sunday, but he will be back at shortstop Tuesday night, batting eighth in the order.

Apr 24 2012Crawford went 3-for-8 eight during the Giants' doubleheader Monday, and he made a really nice defensive play as well.No one thought Crawford could hit major league pitching very well (and he's struggled with errors to boot), but he entered Monday as one of the most unluckiest players in recent memory, as Crawford had a .190 BABIP despite a 20.9 LD% and a 2.09 GB/FB ratio while also not hitting a single popout. That's an extremely highly unlikely stream of events.
Apr 8 2012Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI during San Francisco's loss Sunday. However, it was his first hit of the year, as he's batting just .091 over the first three games of the season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: What's worse is that Crawford is starting solely because of his defense, and yet he committed his second error of the year Sunday during a crucial situation. Instead of a sure inning-ending double play, Crawford's error led to two runs being scored, which proved to be the difference in the game. He simply must be an excellent fielder to justify having his bat in the lineup moving forward.
Apr 7 2012Crawford got rid of the protective padding for his left thumb midway through Friday's game, CSN Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford said that the padding was too bulky, though he refused to blame that on an error he committed early in the game.
Apr 6 2012Crawford will bat eighth in Friday's season opener against Pittsburgh, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Crawford would bat seventh. However, it's Ryan Theriot (who's playing second base Friday) batting seventh and Crawford eighth. Crawford, 25, has a .204 batting average over 220 career plate appearances.
Jan 27 2012The Giants remain firm in their stance that Crawford will enter the season as the starting shortstop even after signing Ryan Theriot this week, reports San Francisco Chronicle beat writer Hank Schulman. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although the Giants are endorsing the youthful Crawford as the starter, expect a short leash if he struggles. The Giants have plenty of serviceable veteran options in Theriot, Mike Fontenot and Emmanuel Burriss. Crawford batted poorly in 66 games with the Giants in 2011, batting .204 with little power. His strength is as a defender, which offers little value for fantasy teams. Although a player like Theriot isn't an offensive stalwart either, he would likely bring a higher batting average and more steals than Crawford if given playing time.
Dec 17 2011The Giants plan on entering the 2012 season with Crawford as their starting shortstop, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There was some concern that Crawford's bat might have been overmatched at the major league level when he was called up in 2011 (.204/.388/.296), but they consider him a defensive asset, and he had a pretty good AFL campaign. He'll most often bat eighth in the order.
Sep 18 2011Crawford is back in the starting lineup Sunday, the Giants official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marks Crawford's sixth start in the last eight games. With the Giants out of the playoff hunt, it makes sense for them to give ABs to Crawford and not, for example, Orlando Cabrera.
Sep 10 2011Crawford will start at shortstop for the Giants on Sunday, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants haven't conceded their playoff chances this season, but they are going to take a chance and start giving regular time to their projected lineup for next season. That means Crawford should be in the lineup most days for the rest of the season.
Sep 2 2011Crawford has been recalled by the Giants, the team's official Twitter feed reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even if the Giants work him back into the mix with regular playing time, the results the first time around suggest that he won't be much of an asset during the fantasy playoff push.
Jul 31 2011Crawford has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno, reports Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants gave Crawford a real chance to stick in their lineup this season, after being called up directly from High-A. But through 153 at-bats, he was hitting just .190 with little power, and it is clear he needs more time in the minor leagues.
Jul 28 2011Crawford is back in the lineup for Thursday's game, reports Chris Haft of MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants have been rotating their shortstops, but giving each a couple of games in a row. Miguel Tejada started three games, followed by Crawford for three games, and then Fontenot for the past four. It's not certain how the playing time will shake out moving forward, but Crawford's batting average has not rose from the .200 mark, where it's hovered all year. That doesn't bode well for continued starts.
Jul 26 2011Crawford is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Crawford sits this one out, Mike Fontenot is getting the nod at short for San Francisco.
Jul 23 2011Crawford is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Brewers, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mike Fontenot is at short and batting second Saturday night against left-hander Randy Wolf.
Jul 7 2011Crawford is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game, reports the Giants' official site. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is getting a routine day off. Miguel Tejada is filling in, but shortstop is his worst defensive position at this point in this career and won't steal many starts over the second half of the season.
Jun 23 2011Crawford is back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford received the day off Tuesday, and Miguel Tejada started in his place. We could see Tejada continue to get more regular starts if Crawford continues to struggle at the dish. He has batted just .151 over his last 16 games.
Jun 22 2011Crawford is not in Tuesday's starting lineup, according to the San Jose Mercury News. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford has been the Giants' regular shortstop for a couple weeks, but after getting off to a decent start at the big league level, he has batted just .151 over his last 16 games. Miguel Tejada will start at shortstop Tuesday night, but he no longer has the range to play there every day. Crawford will likely remain the regular shortstop for the time being, but his lack of production at the plate makes him only a marginal fantasy option, even at a shallow position.
Jun 5 2011Crawford went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game was the rookie's first ever at AT&T Park and he didn't disappoint the home crowd with his run-scoring double in the fourth to pad the Giants' lead. At .292, he's probably hitting over his head right now, but given the struggles of so many middle infielders, he might be worth an add while he's hot. On a totally unrelated to fantasy note, Crawford's mom ended up grabbing a foul ball hit by her son for the perfect souvenir from his home debut.
Jun 1 2011Crawford went 2-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI during the Giants' 7-5 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is hitting over his head, maybe even dractically, since being called up with San Francisco, but Miguel Tejada can't hit either these days, and the rookie is superior defensively by a wide margin (Crawford was charged with an error Wednesday, but it was a blown call by the first base umpire), so don't be surprised if he continues to start over Tejada after Pablo Sandoval returns to action.
May 29 2011Crawford went 0-for-2 with a walk in Sunday's game against the Brewers. He also allowed a few seeing-eye singles during the game on defense. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford hit a grand slam in his debut Saturday, but Sunday he looked much more like a High-A callup that will see some rough stretches in his first taste of the big leagues. That said, for the moment at least, he's in line for frequent playing time, so deep NL-only leagues can take notice.
May 29 2011Crawford is not in the starting lineup against left-hander Randy Wolf on Saturday, the Giants' official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Perhaps we'll see him back in the picture again Sunday against Yovani Gallardo, but Crawford is on the bench after homering in his MLB debut against Shaun Marcum on Friday night. Emmanuel Burriss is playing shortstop for the Giants on Saturday afternoon.
Jul 8 2010Crawford will be sidelined six-to-eight weeks after breaking his right hand, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford broke the fifth metacarpal on his throwing hand. He was hit by a line drive while fielding a ground ball off a fungo. He was batting just .241 this season but has played outstanding defense at shortstop.
Jun 11 2003Crawford is listed in Saturday's lineup against the Reds, the San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford is back in the lineup at shortstop after giving way to Emmanuel Burriss -- Saturday's starter at second base -- on Friday.
Jun 10 2003Crawford is not in Friday's starting lineup, reports the Giants' official site. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Emmanuel Burriss gets the start at shortstop instead, but Crawford remains the regular starter. He is hitting .250 with one home run and one steal through 50 plate appearances.
Jun 8 2003Crawford went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI during the Giants' win Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Crawford also played fantastic defense, as he's done throughout his minor league career. He was also caught stealing, and it's safe to say he's played over his head while at the plate so far in San Francisco, but he's all but been named the team's starting shortstop, even after Pablo Sandoval returns next week. Miguel Tejada is headed to the bench if he's not outright released.
