Jun 30 2024Teheran opted out of his minor-league contract with the Orioles on Sunday and will become a free agent, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran will be seeking out another organization after his second stint of 2024 with the Orioles ended without him receiving a look in the majors. After linking back up with the Orioles on a minor-league deal earlier this month, Teheran proceeded to turn in a 9.18 ERA and 2.04 WHIP across 16.2 innings over his four starts with Triple-A Norfolk. Teheran previously spent time with the Cubs and Mets earlier this season.
Jun 4 2024Teheran agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cubs over the weekend and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Teheran has just one appearance in the big leagues this season and has struggled to an 8.82 ERA over eight starts at the Triple-A level. The Orioles are in dire need of rotation depth due to Tyler Wells (elbow) and John Means (elbow) both recently being ruled out for the season.
Jun 1 2024Teheran opted out of his minor-league contract with the Cubs on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a brief stint with the Mets, Teheran elected free agency and signed an MiLB deal with the Cubs in April. He has since started eight games, logging an 8.82 ERA and 1.83 WHIP across 32.2 innings. The 33-year-old righty will once again test his luck in the open market, though another minor-league deal is likely the most he can hope for.
Apr 14 2024Teheran and the Cubs agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being designated for assignment by the Mets on April 9, Teheran elected free agency, and he has now found a new home with Chicago. The right-hander made one start with New York before he was let go, surrendering four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three against Atlanta on Monday. The 33-year-old will now begin with Triple-A Iowa, but he'll likely earn a shot with the major-league roster relatively soon.
Apr 11 2024Teheran elected to become a free agent Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran cleared waivers after being DFA'd by the Mets on Tuesday and exercised his right to refuse an outright assignment. The 33-year-old right-hander gave up four earned runs in 2.2 innings during his season debut against Atlanta on Monday, and he'll now look for an opportunity with another organization in need of rotation depth.
Apr 9 2024The Mets designated Teheran for assignment on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander started Monday against Atlanta, but he won't stick around with the Mets after giving up four runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. Teheran can reject an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and become a free agent, though it's unclear if he plans to do so.
Apr 5 2024Teheran is scheduled to start Monday's game against Atlanta, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander's agreement with the Mets became official Friday, and he's scheduled to make his first start against his former team. Teheran will be available for 70-to-75 pitches and could also be an emergency option for an inning out of the bullpen Friday in Cincinnati.
Apr 3 2024Teheran, who agreed to a one-year contract with the Mets on Wednesday, is expected to be ready to start Monday's series opener in Atlanta, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After having their second postponement Wednesday in as many days, the Mets are set to begin a stretch of 15 games in 14 days beginning with Thursday's doubleheader with the Tigers. Though Teheran won't be an option to pitch that day while he gets settled in with his new organization, club officials reportedly consider the 33-year-old right-hander fully stretched out after he had been competing for a rotation spot with the Orioles in spring training before he was granted his release shortly before Opening Day. Assuming he passes a physical and is able to throw a bullpen session over the weekend without incident, Teheran should slot in as the Mets' No. 5 starter beginning next week while Tylor Megill (shoulder) and Kodai Senga (shoulder) are on the injured list. Teheran, who posted a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 71.2 innings with Milwaukee a season ago, will tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second outing falling next weekend versus the Royals at Citi Field.
Mar 23 2024The Orioles released Teheran on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran has exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract after being told he will not be part of the Opening Day roster. The 33-year-old veteran will now look to latch on with another organization that's in need of rotation depth.
Mar 22 2024Teheran plans to opt out of his contract if he's not on the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran joined the Orioles on Feb. 27 after spending last season with the Brewers, for whom he posted a 4.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB over 71.2 innings. He entered spring training competing for a place in the starting rotation, and his chances of making the roster seemed to increase with Kyle Bradish (elbow) and John Means (elbow) down to begin the regular season. If Teheran does make the Opening Day roster, he figures to work out of the bullpen with Cole Irvin named as Baltimore's fifth starter.
Feb 27 2024Teheran signed a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran had a surprising run of success with the Brewers in 2023, maintaining a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 71.2 innings. He could provide valuable innings for the Orioles early in the season, as both Kyle Bradish (elbow) and John Means (elbow) have been slowed at the start of spring training.
Oct 6 2023Teheran elected to become a free agent Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was pushed off the 40-man roster in Milwaukee just before the final weekend of the regular season. The 32-year-old former top prospect fared pretty well when healthy this year, posting an overall 4.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB in 71.2 innings (11 starts, three relief appearances) for the NL Central-champion Brewers. He should fetch some interest on the open market this winter.
Sep 29 2023The Brewers designated Teheran for assignment Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting the season hot with a 1.53 ERA and 0.88 WHIP through 35.1 innings across his first six starts, Teheran has allowed 29 earned runs over 36.1 frames since June 27. His second-half struggles will ultimately cost Teheran his spot on the Crew's 40-man roster, and it will be given to Caleb Boushley, who is set to make his MLB debut Friday.
Sep 28 2023Teheran (3-5) allowed one hit across four scoreless innings, earning the win in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran took over to provide some long relief after Corbin Burnes pitched four innings, responding with four clean innings of his own to keep the team shutout intact. The right-hander has shown well in bulk relief this month, pitching to a 2 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with six strikeouts across nine innings.
Sep 20 2023Milwaukee activated Teheran (hip) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran will return to the Brewers in a long relief role after missing several weeks because of a right hip impingement. He had posted a 4.74 ERA and 44:11 K:BB in 62.2 innings (11 starts) prior to landing on the IL in late July.
Sep 18 2023Teheran (hip) made the fifth appearance of his rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Nashville, striking out one and working around two hits over two scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran looks to be fully recovered from the right hip impingement that sent him to the 15-day injured list July 30, as he's already made a pair of five-inning starts for Nashville before being limited to two innings Friday. The Brewers haven't indicated that Teheran's early exit was the result of any setback with his hip; instead, the organization may just be looking to keep the right-hander healthy in case he's needed by the big club over the final two weeks of the regular season. Milwaukee doesn't have an opening in the rotation at the moment, and Teheran lacks the sort of power arsenal to be a difference maker out of the bullpen, so he may have to wait for an injury to one of the Brewers' five starters before he's activated.
Sep 11 2023Teheran (hip) made the fourth start of his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Nashville, striking out five in five innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran covered five frames for the second rehab outing in a row, though after tossing 72 pitches his last time out, the right-hander was lifted after 60 pitches (34 strikes) on Sunday. He appears to be sufficiently stretched out for starting duty again following his placement on the 15-day injured list July 30 with a right hip impingement, but the Brewers don't have an immediate need for Teheran in their rotation. Colin Rea has been solid enough in two turns through the rotation since rejoining the Brewers earlier this month as a replacement for injured No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow).
Sep 6 2023Teheran (hip) gave up an unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out three over five innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Nashville. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was making his third minor-league rehab start Tuesday and delivered his best outing yet, limiting Memphis to just one hit despite spotting only 37 of his 72 pitches for strikes. Though the Brewers likely would have wanted to see better efficiency from Teheran, he looks built up enough at this point to return from the 15-day injured list and potentially rejoin the big-league rotation. Incumbent No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow) is on the shelf, and Colin Rea is slated to make a second straight start in his stead Thursday versus the Yankees. If Rea falters during his upcoming outing, the Brewers could turn to Teheran to replace Rea as their new No. 5 starter.
Sep 2 2023Teheran (hip) covered 2.1 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four Thursday in his rehab start with Triple-A Nashville. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran tossed 60 pitches (34 strikes) in the second outing of his rehab assignment overall after he previously made a three-inning start for High-A Wisconsin on Aug. 25. The right-hander will likely need at least one more outing in the minors to get fully stretched out for starting duty, but it's not certain that Milwaukee will have a spot available for him in its rotation once he's healthy. Colin Rea will be called up from Nashville to fill in Saturday against the Phillies for injured No. 5 starter Adrian Houser (elbow). How Rea performs Saturday along with how quickly Houser recovers from his injury may dictate whether Teheran gets another look in the Milwaukee rotation.
Aug 28 2023Teheran (hip) is set to make the next appearance of his rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After striking out four batters while allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk over three innings in his first rehab outing Friday with High-A Wisconsin, Teheran will jump two levels for his second appearance. Assuming Teheran is able to build up from anywhere between four and six innings Wednesday, he should be ready to take on a traditional starting role with the Brewers. While Milwaukee wouldn't appear to have a rotation spot available for Teheran at the moment, that could change if the forearm tightness that knocked Adrian Houser out of Sunday's win over the Padres is serious enough to send him to the injured list.
Aug 24 2023Teheran (hip) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday with High-A Wisconsin. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran should again be an option for the Brewers, as either a starter or long reliever, after a couple of outings on the farm. The 32-year-old right-hander had pitched to a 4.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 44:11 K:BB in 62.2 innings (11 starts) prior to landing on the injured list in late July with a right hip impingement.
Aug 12 2023Teheran (hip) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Saturday's bullpen session would be the first of three for Teheran before he embarks on a rehab assignment. There's still no exact return date in place for the 32-year-old righty, but he seems to be in line for a return toward the end of August.
Jul 30 2023The Brewers placed Teheran on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right hip impingement. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran's move to the IL comes one day after he was blasted for nine earned runs on 11 hits -- including three home runs -- over five innings in an 11-5 loss to Atlanta. Though the hip impingement doesn't sound like a long-term concern, Teheran won't necessarily have a spot in the Milwaukee rotation waiting for him once he's back to full health. The Brewers will bring back Wade Miley (elbow) from the 15-day IL on Wednesday to join the rotation as a replacement for Teheran, who now owns a 4.74 ERA (5.08 FIP) in 62.2 innings over his 11 starts with Milwaukee.
Jul 29 2023Teheran (2-5) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing nine runs on 11 hits and no walks while striking out four batters over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was impressive against Atlanta in his previous start, allowing one run over six innings in a no-decision. The rematch Saturday against his former club didn't go anywhere near as well, as the right-hander gave up six runs in the first inning and a season-high nine runs overall. Atlanta tagged Teheran for three homers, accounting for five of the runs against him. The veteran hurler made for a good story when he opened the campaign with a 1.53 ERA over his first six starts after appearing in just one big-league game across the previous two seasons. However, things have mostly soured for Teheran since, as he holds an 0-3 record and an 8.89 ERA in his subsequent five outings.
Jul 23 2023Teheran allowed a run on three hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was tagged for 17 runs over 16.1 innings across his last three starts, a stark downturn compared to his impressive work to begin his Milwaukee tenure. He was back in solid form with his fifth quality start of the year, and against a dangerous offense to boot. The right-hander is now at a 3.75 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB through 57.2 innings over 10 starts this season. He's on track to get another look at Atlanta's lineup in a road rematch next weekend.
Jul 18 2023Teheran (2-4) was charged with the loss Tuesday against the Phillies after he gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old has now surrendered at least four runs in three straight starts after he allowed just six earned runs combined over his first six outings of the season. Teheran has been a key fill-in piece for Milwaukee's rotation with a 4.01 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 51.2 innings, but his recent struggles could result in him eventually being the odd man out when Wade Miley (elbow) and/or Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) return from the injured list.
Jul 3 2023Teheran did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing six runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings against the Cubs. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran allowed three runs in both the second and third innings, but he'd bear down and blank the Cubs over his final three frames as the Brewers rallied to overcome the 6-0 deficit. Teheran has surrendered 13 runs over his last two outings (11.2 innings) after pitching to a 1.53 ERA in his first six starts (35.1 innings). Overall, the 32-year-old Teheran has a 3.64 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB across eight starts (47 innings) this season. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Reds in his next outing.
Jun 27 2023Teheran (2-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets after he gave up seven runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out two and walked none. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran entered the contest with just six earned runs allowed in six starts with Milwaukee, but New York topped that mark Tuesday on the strength of four home runs. The veteran right-hander has a 2.85 ERA and 0.93 WHIP through 41 innings this year, but his fantasy ceiling is limited by a 5.5 K/9. Depending on whether the Brewers utilize a five-man or six-man rotation this week, Teheran lines up to next pitch against the Pirates or Cubs.
Jun 21 2023Teheran did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two hits and four walks over five scoreless innings in a 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran continued his excellent start to the 2023 season, limiting Arizona to just two hits across five innings. However, he was outdueled by Cy Young candidate Zac Gallen, who allowed just one run over seven frames and picked up his second no-decision of the season. Though Teheran set a season high with four walks Wednesday, he managed to get timely outs to hold the Diamondbacks scoreless and drop his ERA to 1.53 through six starts (35.1 innings).
Jun 16 2023Teheran (2-2) yielded two runs on one hit and one walk over six innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lone hit allowed by Teheran was Carlos Santana's second-inning homer. Teheran has allowed two or fewer runs and fewer than two walks in each of his first five MLB starts this season. His strong run has resulted in a 1.78 ERA and a 20:4 K:BB through 30.1 innings. Teheran is projected for a home matchup against the Diamondbacks next week.
Jun 11 2023Teheran did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over seven innings against the Athletics. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran posted season highs in innings completed and strikeouts but still couldn't pick up a win, as Oakland's pitching staff stymied Milwaukee's offense. The right-hander has been stellar through four starts after signing with the Brewers at the end of May, posting a 1.48 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB across 24.1 innings, but he has just one win to show for his efforts. Milwaukee's rotation continues to be banged up, so Teheran should get plenty of opportunities moving forward, especially if he continues to pitch the way he did Saturday. His next start is is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set versus the Pirates.
Jun 5 2023Teheran (1-2) took the loss against Cincinnati on Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 6.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran couldn't quite match the excellence of rookie hurler Andrew Abbott, who allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings for the Reds. However, the veteran pitched well in his own right, throwing a season-high 6.1 frames and notching his second straight quality start. Though Teheran has lost two of his three starts on the campaign, he's given up just three earned runs over 17.1 innings for a 1.56 ERA. He isn't striking out many batters, pitched in independent ball last season and hasn't posted a season ERA lower than 3.50 in the majors since 2016, so there's reason to be skeptical about his resurgence. That said, Teheran has had major-league success in the past, so there's a chance he could can maintain fantasy relevance even if his numbers eventually fall back closer to his career norms.
Jun 1 2023Teheran evened his record at 1-1 after tossing six innings and allowing one unearned run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jays. He scattered four hits and failed to strike out a batter while issuing no walks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Three of the hits Teheran allowed went for extra bases, though one was a run-scoring triple off the bat of Kevin Kiermaier, who hit a soft flyball that was badly misplayed by Brewers outfielder Brian Anderson. Though Teheran hasn't pitched as well his 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP through his first two starts with Milwaukee would indicate, he's been able to find the strike zone consistently and has eschewed hard contact for the most part. He's not making many bats miss, however; he's generated a poor 5.6 percent swinging-strike rate across 162 pitches over his two outings.
May 29 2023Teheran will start Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jays in Toronto, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran will pick up a second straight turn through the Milwaukee rotation after he acquitted himself well in his Brewers debut last Thursday, when he struck out five and gave up one run on four hits and one walk over five innings in a losing effort versus the Giants. The right-hander will draw a tougher test Wednesday on the road, but even if his performance dips a bit, Teheran should have some leash in a Milwaukee rotation that's currently without all of Brandon Woodruff (shoulder), Wade Miley (lat), Eric Lauer (shoulder) and Aaron Ashby (shoulder).
May 24 2023Teheran is expected to start for the Brewers on Thursday versus the Giants, barring any issues with his physical Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran has agreed to terms on a major-league deal with the Brew Crew, but the contract won't be official under he goes through a medical review. Assuming no red flags arise, he'll make his Brewers debut Thursday as a rotation fill-in while the club battles multiple injuries. Teheran last pitched in the majors in 2021 and held a 5.62 ERA and 45:16 K:BB over 40 innings at the Triple-A level this season.
May 23 2023Teheran signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Brewers, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was able to score a guaranteed major-league deal after opting out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday. He had an underwhelming 5.63 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through eight starts this season at Triple-A El Paso, but the Brewers are desperate for healthy arms capable of eating innings and the 32-year-old right-hander might get an immediate opportunity to work out of Milwaukee's rotation.
May 22 2023Teheran opted out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran re-signed with the Padres after opting out of his minor-league deal earlier this month, but he seems unlikely to do so after exercising an opt-out clause again. The veteran right-hander holds a 5.62 ERA and 45:16 K:BB over 40 innings with Triple-A El Paso.
May 4 2023Teheran signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran opted out of a previous minor-league agreement with the Padres on Tuesday, but he's back with the organization 48 hours later and could stay right on his normal rotation turn at Triple-A El Paso. The 32-year-old has struggled to a 6.84 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 25 innings (five starts) this season in the Pacific Coast League.
May 2 2023Teheran was released by the Padres on Tuesday after opting out of his minor-league contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Heyman notes the Padres "would like him back," so the 32-year-old right-hander could wind up re-signing with the club after first testing the open market. He had registered a 6.84 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 25 innings (five starts) this season with Triple-A El Paso.
Nov 27 2022Teheran signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Sunday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran played in independent ball and the Mexican League last season, and he'll return to the affiliated ranks with San Diego for 2023. He appeared in only one game with the Tigers during 2021 but had a 10.05 ERA across 31.1 innings for the Angels during in the 2020 campaign.
Apr 21 2022Teheran signed with the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran took the ball on Opening Day for the FerryHawks and allowed one earned run across four innings to go along with four strikeouts. The longtime major-league starter managed only five innings with Detroit in 2021, as he battled a shoulder injury for much of the campaign. He held several throwing showcases this spring, but apparently that wasn't enough to pique interest from a major-league club. Though a comeback could in store for Teheran, it is on hold for now.
Mar 15 2022Teheran has a throwing showcase for major-league teams scheduled for Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran also took part in a throwing showcase over the weekend and now has another one scheduled for Thursday. The 31-year-old went down with a strained shoulder after making one start for Detroit last season, and he struggled in 2020 with a 10.05 ERA over 31.1 innings. Teheran may have to settle for a minor-league deal, even with a strong showing at the showcase.
Mar 13 2022Teheran (shoulder) was one of three MLB veterans who took part Saturday in a throwing showcase in Miami in front of multiple teams, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with Teheran, Anibal Sanchez and Erasmo Ramirez took part in the showcase as all three looked to prove to clubs that they're healthy and still capable of contributing in the majors. Sanchez was seemingly the most impressive of the group, as Heyman notes that the 38-year-old received a contract offer 10 minutes after his throwing session before he ultimately landed a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Sunday. Teheran, meanwhile, remains unsigned at the moment and may have to wait for more free agent pitchers to come off the market before he's extended a contract. After earning a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day rotation last spring, Teheran made only one start before he was diagnosed with a shoulder strain that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He appears to be healthy now, but Teheran may have to prove himself at the Triple-A level before getting another look in the majors.
Sep 5 2021The Tigers shut down Teheran (shoulder) for the 2021 season, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran suffered a shoulder strain in early April after making one start, which was a five-inning, one-run effort against Cleveland on April 3. He'll presumably be ready for the beginning of 2022, although it remains to be seen which club the pending free agent will pitch for next season.
Aug 15 2021Teheran (shoulder) was shut down from throwing after showing a drop in velocity and will be reevaluated, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran threw a live bullpen session Saturday but will now have his rehab program halted due to a dip in velocity. The 30-year-old was already looking at a potential return in mid-to-late September, so any shutdown of more than a few days may end his prospects of pitching again this season.
Jul 25 2021Tigers general manager Al Avila said last week that Teheran (shoulder) has a chance to return from the 60-day injured list in late September, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Updates on Teheran have been scarce since he was diagnosed April 11 with a right shoulder strain, and that's likely a reflection of the limited progress he's made in his rehab over the past three-plus months. Given that Teheran isn't even close to beginning a rehab assignment following his prolonged shutdown, the Tigers are bracing for the likelihood that he won't pitch again in 2021. Teheran is 30 years old and set to become a free agent this winter, so Detroit has little incentive to rush him back when he probably doesn't have much of a future in the organization.
May 29 2021Teheran (shoulder) hasn't yet resumed throwing, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran has been on the 60-day injured list with a shoulder strain since April 11, and manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday that the right-hander is still "pretty far away" from returning. Teheran is eligible to return from the injured list in early June, but it appears as though he'll miss significantly more time. A better idea of his return timetable could come into focus once he's able to resume throwing.
Apr 11 2021The Tigers transferred Teheran to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was placed on the 10-day IL on Saturday with a shoulder strain, but the Tigers didn't immediately specify how long the injury might keep the right-hander on the shelf. The club's decision to transfer Teheran to the 60-day IL a day later implies that his shoulder injury is a rather significant one, and he'll now be sidelined until at least early June as a result. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman/designated hitter Renato Nunez, whose contract was selected from the alternate site ahead of Sunday's series finale in Cleveland. Derek Holland and Michael Fulmer covered most of the innings while filling in for Teheran in a tandem start earlier this weekend, but Spencer Turnbull will most likely be the long-term replacement for Teheran upon returning from the COVID-19 injured list.
Apr 10 2021Teheran has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain, retroactive to April 7. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was scratched from his scheduled start against Cleveland on Friday due to triceps tightness, and he's now been diagnosed with a shoulder strain that will force him to miss additional time. Alex Lange was recalled by the Tigers in a corresponding move. Derek Holland could fill in as a starter while Teheran is sidelined.
Apr 9 2021Teheran was scratched from Friday's start against Cleveland due to triceps tightness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran went through his pre-game throwing progression Friday, but he was shut down as a precautionary measure due to a triceps issue. The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but left-hander Derek Holland will start in his place against Cleveland.
Apr 3 2021Teheran (1-0) earn the victory Saturday against Cleveland after allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old had a back issue crop up down the stretch during spring training, but he was able to throw 90 pitches and gave up only one run via a solo homer in his Tigers debut. Teheran lines up to face Cleveland again Friday for his second outing of the season.
Mar 30 2021Teheran (back) is scheduled to start the Tigers' second game of the season Saturday versus Cleveland, Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran battled back tightness in his fourth outing of the spring March 22, but he was able to quickly move past the injury to stay on schedule with his throwing progression. He made his final start over the weekend against the Phillies, giving up six runs in 3.2 innings. While he finished the spring with a 5.52 ERA, Teheran's 0.89 WHIP, .176 batting average allowed and 18:4 K:BB in 14.2 innings were better indicators of how well he pitched. He should be available to cover approximately five or six innings in his regular-season debut.
Mar 24 2021The Tigers selected Teheran's (back) contract Wednesday and added him to the 40-man and active rosters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tigers manager A.J. Hinch informed Teheran on Wednesday that he secured a spot in the Opening Day rotation after the non-roster invitee following four impressive appearances in Grapefruit League play. Over 11 innings, Teheran posted a 2.45 ERA and 0.64 WHIP while racking up 15 strikeouts. Detroit opened up a spot for Teheran on the roster and in the rotation by placing Spencer Turnbull on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Turnbull isn't expected to be in store for a lengthy absence, so Teheran may need to pitch well in his first start or two with Detroit to strengthen his case for holding down a rotation spot when the Tigers' pitching staff is back to full strength.
Mar 23 2021Tigers manager AJ Hinch said Tuesday that Teheran is feeling well after exiting his Grapefruit League start Monday against the Blue Jays with back tightness, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran struck out three and gave up a run on one hit (a solo home run) in his two innings before departing from the Tigers' 4-3 loss. Hinch suggested that Teheran's removal was precautionary, as the skipper noted that the right-hander will go through his normal after-start workout Tuesday. Assuming Teheran's back responds well to the activity, he'll throw a bullpen session Wednesday, which would put him on track to make his next turn through the Tigers' rotation.
Mar 22 2021Teheran (back) does not believe his injury is serious, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran started experiencing back tightness in the first inning of Monday's start and exited the game after only 30 pitches and two frames of work. However, he stretched his back out after exiting the contest and believes he could have re-entered the game. Teheran has made the case for a role in the rotation with his performance this spring and it doesn't appear that this injury will disrupt that.
Mar 17 2021Teheran pitched four scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He allowed one hit and struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran's velocity has reportedly been up this spring and it showed on Wednesday with the seven strikeouts. The righty now has a 2.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts across 12 innings of work in Grapefruit League play. He's making a very compelling case to earn a rotation spot in Detroit come Opening Day.
Mar 13 2021Teheran has averaged 92 mph with his fastball in his last two Grapefruit League starts, which is up from last season, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran sat below 90 mph during most of 2020, and he struggled with a 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across 10 appearances (nine starts) with the Angels. The Tigers are hoping the righty reverts to his 2019 form, when he posted a 3.81 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 33 starts with Atlanta. Teheran is a non-roster invitee to camp, but he could push his way onto the roster if he looks more like his old self.
Feb 27 2021Teheran said he didn't have his usual arm or leg strength after contracting COVID-19 last summer, and that impacted his mechanics during the season, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran posted an atrocious 10.05 ERA in 31.1 innings with the Angels, so it's clear he was never quite right after his COVID-19 diagnosis. He ended up signing a minor-league contract with the Tigers earlier this month, but he could earn a rotation spot if he's back to full strength. The righty posted a much better 3.64 ERA on average while with Atlanta from 2013 through 2019.
Feb 19 2021Teheran signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers as a non-roster invitee Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran held a showcase in January, and he'll settle for a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. He elected to ink a minor-league deal rather than a guaranteed contract since he'll make $3 million if he makes the big-league roster. The right-hander made 10 appearances (nine starts) for the Angels last season, posting a 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 31.1 innings.
Jan 13 2021Teheran will throw for teams at a showcase scheduled for Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was Atlanta's Opening Day starter in 2019, but he left the team in 2020 to join the Angels. He struggled mightily during the abbreviated season, making 10 appearances (nine starts) while posting a career-worst 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 31.1 innings. He'll attempt to demonstrate his abilities during his showcase Tuesday, although it's not yet clear which teams will attend.
Sep 27 2020Teheran didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, tossing one inning and allowing three runs on two hits and two walks while fanning three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels had already indicated Teheran would be working out of the bullpen in the final games of the season, but he received another chance to start after scheduled starter Dylan Bundy (finger) was a late scratch. As has been the trend all season long, Teheran didn't take advantage of the chance and delivered another woeful performance. The Colombian ends the season with a career-worst 10.05 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) after not posting an ERA above the 4.50 mark in each of the past seven seasons.
Sep 26 2020Teheran will start Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team indicated earlier in the week that the veteran right-hander had already made his final start of the season and would work out of the bullpen this weekend, but scheduled starter Dylan Bundy (finger) was a late scratch. Teheran hasn't found much success this season with a 9.49 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 17:14 K:BB over 30.1 innings, but he'll look to finish strong in a tough matchup versus the Dodgers.
Sep 23 2020Teheran will not make another start this season but will be available out of the bullpen for the Angels' final few games, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels' off day Thursday means they won't need all of their starters to make one final start. Teheran certainly makes sense as the man to skip, as he owns a very disappointing 9.49 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP in 30.1 innings this season. He was already a very unexciting fantasy option as a starter given his struggles, and he's considerably less interesting as a long reliever.
Sep 20 2020Teheran (0-4) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in one-plus innings pitched. He did not record a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander's outing got off to a rough start, with Joey Gallo taking him deep for a two-run homer in the first inning. He went out for the second, but was pulled after allowing another long ball to Anderson Tejeda and a walk to Derek Dietrich. Teheran's ERA has jumped all the way up to 9.49 after allowing seven earned runs across just three innings during his last two starts. He is scheduled to make his final start of the year Saturday against the Dodgers.
Sep 15 2020Teheran allowed four runs on three hits and one walk in two innings against Arizona on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran didn't give up an exorbitant number of hits, but the three he did yield all left the yard. It was the first time this season that Teheran has allowed three homers in a game, though his 3.07 HR/9 indicates a serious problem with the long ball overall. After a promising appearance against San Diego on Sept. 2, the right-hander has allowed nine earned runs over 6.2 innings across his past two starts. He'll carry an unsightly 8.90 ERA into his next start, currently slated for Sunday at home against Texas.
Sep 9 2020Teheran (0-3) allowed five earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran allowed just one earned run through four innings but imploded in his final frame. After getting the first out, he allowed four consecutive batters to reach base. The Angels bullpen also didn't help Teheran's cause, as he exited with runners on first and second, both of whom were allowed to score. Overall, Teheran has a disastrous 8.23 ERA with a 17:11K:BB across 27.1 innings. He'll look to get on track in his next outing, currently projected to come Tuesday against Arizona.
Sep 7 2020Teheran is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Rangers in Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was demoted to the bullpen three weeks ago, but he's started in his last two appearances since tossing five innings in long relief Aug. 20. With young starters Jose Suarez and Patrick Sandoval having faltered in their recent outings with the Angels, Teheran looks like he'll hold down a rotation spot for the time being. Over his six outings this season, Teheran has posted a 7.94 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 13:10 K:BB in 22.2 innings.
Sep 3 2020Teheran didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's game between the Angels and the Padres. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while fanning two across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran matched his season-high mark for innings and his season-low mark for runs allowed so, based on what he's done in 2020, this was a positive start for the former Braves hurler. That said, he has posted a 7.94 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 22.2 innings this season -- both figures would be career-worst marks for him -- and still has a long way to go before he can be considered a trustworthy starting candidate in mixed leagues.
Aug 31 2020Teheran will return to the rotation to start Wednesday's game against the Padres, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was demoted to the bullpen after starting the year with four poor starts, and he didn't look a whole lot better in his lone relief appearance, giving up three runs in 4.2 innings against the Astros. With a 9.17 ERA and a 7.66 FIP on the season, expectations should probably be low for the righty against a strong Padres lineup.
Aug 26 2020Teheran pitched 4.2 innings in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Houston, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was recently demoted to the bullpen, but he was called upon to make a spot start in Game 2 of the twin bill. The right-hander appeared to have his first victory of the year locked up after the Angels staked him to a 6-0 lead through the top half of the fifth inning, but the Astros responded with three runs off him in the bottom of the frame. That resulted in the decision to pull Teheran from the contest only one out shy of qualifying for the win. It remains to be seen whether Teheran will rejoin the rotation at any point this season, though he should be a top candidate for another spot start if the need arises.
Aug 24 2020Teheran will start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Astros, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran tossed five innings out of the bullpen during Thursday's matchup with the Giants, so he's stretched out to hurl multiple innings Tuesday. Through 13 innings this season, he owns an ugly 10.38 ERA and 2.00 WHIP with an 8:7 K:BB.
Aug 21 2020Teheran threw five innings against the Giants on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A day after it was announced that Teheran would be moved to the bullpen, the right-hander was called upon in long relief after starter Jose Suarez failed to get out of the second inning. Ironically, Teheran's outing was not only his longest of the season in terms of innings (five) and pitches (78), it was also longer than any Angels' starter has gone in the last five games. The right-hander wasn't exactly dominant in the performance, but he did succeed in eating up innings to help spell a taxed Los Angeles bullpen. It remains to be seen how Teheran will be used the remainder of the season, but it stands to reason that he could re-enter the rotation at some point given the team's lack of starting-pitching depth.
Aug 19 2020Manager Joe Maddon announced Wednesday that Teheran will move to the bullpen, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The writing was on the wall as the veteran right-hander wasn't listed as the probable starter for his next turn through the rotation, and Maddon made it official before Wednesday's game. Teheran had a late start to the season after missing much of summer camp due to COVID-19, and he posted a 12.38 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in three starts (eight innings). The team hasn't indicated who is expected to take his spot in the starting rotation.
Aug 16 2020Teheran (0-2) gave up four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.1 innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Keibert Ruiz and Max Muncy took Teheran deep in the third inning, and the right-hander was replaced by Matt Andriese early in the fourth. Sunday was the first time Teheran has worked into the fourth inning. He tossed 60 pitches (36 strikes) in the appearance. Teheran has a 12.38 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and six strikeouts in eight innings this year. He'll try to chip away at those crooked numbers Friday in Oakland.
Aug 12 2020Teheran will continue starting every fifth game for the Angels moving forward, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Angels manager Joe Maddon said Monday that Teheran wasn't quite up to speed after returning from a bout with COVID-19, but a day later the skipper dismissed the notion that Teheran's schedule or role could be adjusted. "I have a lot of faith in him as a professional," Maddon said. "I've seen him. This guy really competes, and he really cares. I believe he'll get together with Mickey (Callaway) and figure some things out. This is a high-end guy right here, so let's stay with it." Teheran has struggled in his two starts this season, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks through 4.2 innings.
Aug 11 2020Teheran (0-1) didn't factor into the decision in Monday's contest between the Angels and the Athletics. He gave up five runs on five hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks while fanning one in just two innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran has been struggling so far, giving up seven earned runs in just 4.2 innings across his first two outings of the campaign. He will try to bounce back in his next scheduled start, although it won't be an easy matchup since he will face the Dodgers at home Aug. 16.
Aug 6 2020Teheran (0-1) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Mariners. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while fanning two across 2.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was built up to around 60 pitches and tossed 52 (33 strikes), so he was unlikely to go deep into the game regardless of how good he could have looked on the mound. He will try to deliver a better showing in his upcoming start, scheduled for Aug. 10 at home against the Athletics.
Aug 5 2020Teheran (not injury related) was activated off the injured list ahead of his start Wednesday at Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old missed most of summer camp and the beginning of the regular season after contracting COVID-19, but he's set to make his 2020 debut Wednesday. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Teheran is built up to about 60 pitches, so he's unlikely to go much beyond four innings. The veteran right-hander had a 3.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 162:83 K:BB over 174.2 innings with Atlanta last season.
Aug 4 2020Teheran (not injury related) will start against the Mariners on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran missed most of summer camp and the start of the regular season after a bout with COVID-19, but he has apparently built up enough to be ready to take the mound Wednesday. The start will mark Teheran's debut with the Angels after nine seasons with Atlanta, though he isn't likely to be ready to take on a full starter's workload. Teheran registered a 3.81 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 174.2 innings with the Braves last season.
Aug 1 2020Teheran (not injury related) is expected to throw at least once more at the team's alternate training site before joining the big-league club, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A specific return date for Teheran remains undecided, though it appears unlikely that the right-hander will make his Angels debut before next weekend. Manager Joe Maddon did leave open the possibility that Teheran's arrival could be expedited if the need arises, though he would likely be on a limited pitch count if that situation were to occur. Teheran missed most of summer camp after testing positive for COVID-19.
Jul 29 2020Teheran (not injury related) is expected to join the Angels sometime next week, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team hasn't indicated a specific return date for the 29-year-old, but the demotion of sixth-starter Patrick Sandoval to the alternate training site indicates the veteran is nearly ready. Teheran threw a light bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled for a three-inning outing Thursday. The right-hander figures to be limited to four or five innings early on as he continues to ramp things up after missing most of summer camp.
Jul 28 2020Teheran (not injury related) is scheduled to throw three innings during an intrasquad game Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old was originally scheduled for a similar outing Tuesday, but he instead completed a light bullpen session. Manager Joe Maddon indicated the change in schedule wasn't injury related. If all goes well Thursday, Teheran could join the Angels sometime next week, though he won't have the workload of a traditional starter out of the gate due to his absence from most of summer camp.
Jul 27 2020Teheran will throw approximately 55 pitches in three simulated innings at the Angels' secondary training site Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran missed most of camp after testing positive for COVID-19, so he's understandably behind his teammates and remains on the injured list for now. Tuesday's session is expected to be his final one before joining the active roster, so he could make his Angels debut in about a week. He likely won't be able to handle a true starter's workload in his first few turns in the rotation, however.
Jul 24 2020Teheran (illness) threw a two-inning simulated game Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran continues to work his way back into shape after falling ill with coronavirus symptoms in late June. The right-hander missed nearly all of summer camp and remains on the injured list while he builds his arm back up. It's a positive sign that Teheran is back on the mound, but he's likely at least a week away from being ready to join the Angels' rotation.
Jul 22 2020Teheran (illness) completed a bullpen session Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old was cleared to join team workouts over the weekend after previously missing game due to COVID-19, so he still has some work to do before reaching game readiness. Teheran figures to remain on the COVID-19 injured list to start the seaons, and he is scheduled to throw two innings during his next bullpen session. Given the lack of buildup, he'll likely won't enter the rotation before the first week of August.
Jul 20 2020Teheran confirmed Sunday that his late arrival at Angels camp was the result of a positive COVID-19 test, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran, who wasn't cleared to work out with the Angels until Saturday, revealed that he first experienced symptoms of the coronavirus in late June, with those complications including fever, chills, body aches, headaches and a loss of taste. Nearly a month later, Teheran has apparently passed all COVID-19-related protocols, but he estimated that he's still about "a week behind" schedule in his normal throwing program. Though the Angels were satisfied with Teheran's bullpen session Saturday, he'll likely require some additional time to ramp up to a starter's workload, so expect him to remain on the COVID-19 injured list when the Angels begin their season this weekend. Teheran could be ready to make his first start of 2020 in the final week of July or the first week of August.
Jul 18 2020Teheran (undisclosed) was cleared to work out Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was placed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons in early July. While it's undoubtedly a positive that he's now able to join his teammates, his late arrival to camp could impact his ability to handle a starter's workload early in the season.
Jul 17 2020Teheran (undisclosed) arrived in Anaheim on Friday, but it's unclear whether he joined the team's camp, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Joe Maddon said Friday that he saw Teheran, but he wasn't sure whether he was cleared to join the team for workouts. Given the uncertainty surrounding the right-hander's status, he may not be ready to go by the start of the regular season. However, it's encouraging that Teheran's return to on-field work appears to be imminent.
Jul 16 2020Teheran (undisclosed) still doesn't have a timetable to return to the team, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Joe Maddon said Thursday that he was unable to provide an update for when Teheran will arrive in camp, but he said that things are "trending in the right direction." At this point, it's likely that the right-hander will miss at least one turn through the rotation to begin the regular season. Matt Andriese, Felix Pena (knee) and Jaime Barria could step in as starters if Teheran isn't ready for the start of the season.
Jul 12 2020Teheran (undisclosed) has not yet reported to camp, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran said Wednesday that he was hoping to get to Anaheim this weekend, pending the results of a COVID-19 test, but it is unclear when that will actually happen at this point. If he is not ready for the start of the season, Matt Andriese, Felix Pena (knee) and Jaime Barria would be candidates to step into the Angels' six-man rotation.
Jul 8 2020Manager Joe Maddon said Wednesday that Teheran (undisclosed) may not be ready for the start of the season, even if he reports to camp by this weekend, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old was placed on the injured list this week and said earlier Wednesday he's awaiting his COVID-19 test results, though he hopes to join his teammates over the weekend. It remains unclear if Teheran contracted the virus, but he's stayed away from the team since family members had shown symptoms. If he is cleared and reports this weekend, the right-hander would have less than two weeks to ramp up for Opening Day, so it's not a major surprise Maddon isn't confident in his availability.
Jul 7 2020Teheran landed on the 10-day injured list for undisclosed reasons Tuesday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Due to privacy concerns, the Angels can't legally confirm whether or not Teheran's absence is due to COVID-19. Teheran is expected to start for the Angels this season, but an extended absence this month would likely mean that he's not in shape to pitch very deep into games early in the year.
Jul 4 2020Manager Joe Maddon said Saturday that Teheran is not yet at camp for an undisclosed reason, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran signed a one-year contract with the Angels during the offseason, but he hasn't reported to camp yet as baseball activities resume. Maddon didn't disclose why the 29-year-old wasn't yet at camp, and it's unclear when he could report.
Mar 6 2020Teheran's scheduled Cactus League start was pushed to Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was originally scheduled to go Friday, but he'll toe the mound Saturday instead. Dillon Peters will get the start against Kansas City on Friday in Teheran's stead.
Mar 2 2020Teheran tossed two perfect innings against the Cubs on Monday, striking out two. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, the hurler touched 93 mph with his fastball during the outing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran mostly sat in the 91-92 mph range with his four-seamer Monday, representing a marked increase over his 89.7 mph average on the pitch last season. Still, Bollinger notes that the right-hander reportedly experienced a bump in his velocity last spring as well, so it remains to be seen whether Teheran can carry over the improvement into the regular season.
Mar 1 2020Teheran (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran's throwing session lends credence to the belief that his hamstring issue is minor. The right-hander is expected to make his first Cactus League start Monday or Tuesday and should be good to go for the onset of the regular season.
Feb 26 2020Teheran (hamstring) said he plans on making his first Cactus League start Sunday or Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite being scratched a day in advance of his scheduled spring debut Wednesday against the Dodgers, Teheran said that his tight left hamstring is only a minor injury and nothing that he thinks will jeopardize his availability for the start of the season. If Teheran can get back to game action within the next few days like he believes, he should remain on pace to get enough innings this spring to secure a spot in the Angels' Opening Day rotation.
Feb 25 2020Teheran was scratched from Wednesday's scheduled Cactus League start against the Dodgers due to left hamstring tightness, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An MRI came back negative so the right-hander appears to have avoided a significant injury, and it's unsurprising to see the team taking a cautious approach early in spring training. A recovery timeline remains unclear at this point, but a relatively quick return to the mound could allow Teheran to make his usual preparations for the start of the regular season. The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Angels in December after the Braves declined his 2020 option after posting a 3.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 162:83 K:BB over 174.2 innings last season.
Dec 19 2019Teheran signed a one-year, $9 million contract with the Angels on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran's option wasn't picked up by the Braves after he posted a 3.81 ERA with a 162:83 K:BB over 33 starts in 2019, although his 4.65 FIP tells a slightly different story. The right-hander still has time to develop as he enters his age-29 season, and he could carve out a significant role in the Angels' rotation after topping 30 starts in each of the past seven seasons.
Nov 4 2019Teheran's team option for 2020 was declined by Atlanta on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves elected to pay Teheran a $1 million buyout rather than pick up his $12 million option. The 28-year-old's 4.66 FIP and 5.26 xFIP last season didn't super his 3.81 ERA, though he's beaten both of those estimators in each of the last seven seasons. As a capable (if unexciting) starter who is still on the right side of 30, he should generate a fair amount of interest this winter.
Oct 4 2019Teheran was added to the Braves' NLDS roster to replace Chris Martin (oblique) Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran wasn't in the Braves' original playoff squad, but he was apparently the final cut, as he'll wind up joining the team after missing just one game. He recorded a solid 3.81 ERA in 33 starts this season but slumped to a 5.50 ERA over his final eight outings. Teheran could start Game 4 on Monday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Oct 3 2019Teheran appears to be the likely replacement on the NLDS roster after Chris Martin suffered an oblique injury during Game 1 against the Cardinals on Monday night,
Oct 3 2019Teheran appears to be the likely replacement on the NLDS roster after Chris Martin suffered an oblique injury during Game 1 against the Cardinals on Monday night, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves haven't made the move official just yet, but per Bowman, Teheran is expected to be added to the roster. Through 33 starts in the regular season, he posted a 3.81 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with a 162:83 K:BB across 174.2 innings of work.
Oct 2 2019Teheran will not be on the Braves' NLDS roster, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Oct 2 2019Teheran will not be on the Braves' NLDS roster, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves no longer view their Opening Day starter as one of their four best rotation options, and he's not even seen as good enough to be a long reliever. It's hard to argue with that conclusion, as he's posted a 5.50 ERA over his last eight starts. Josh Tomlin will be the long man in the bullpen.
Sep 25 2019Teheran (10-11) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering six runs on six hits and a walk over 2.1 innings as Atlanta fell 9-6 to the Royals. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the right-hander didn't serve up a homer this time out, the results weren't any prettier than they were in his last two outings. Teheran closes out the regular season with losses in three straight starts and a 6.56 ERA through 23.1 innings in September, and while Atlanta is headed for the playoffs, there's no guarantee he'll have a role in the team's postseason rotation plans.
Sep 19 2019Teheran (10-10) took the loss Wednesday as Atlanta fell 4-1 to the Phillies, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks over five-plus innings while striking out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Keeping the ball in the park was again an issue for Teheran, as he served up homers to Bryce Harper in the fourth inning and Cesar Hernandez to lead off the sixth. The right-hander has been taken deep five times in his last two starts -- more than in his prior 10 starts combined -- and lost them both. He'll carry a 3.55 ERA and 161:82 K:BB through 172.1 innings into his next outing Tuesday in Kansas City.
Sep 12 2019Teheran (10-9) was charged with the loss against the Phillies on Thursday, lasting just four innings while surrendering five runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite coming into Thursday's contest with a solid road WHIP (1.23), Teheran struggled to piece together a strong performance at Citizens Bank Park, largely due to long ball woes. The right-hander served up a solo home run to Cesar Hernandez in the first inning, a two-run shot to Adam Haseley in the second and a two-run homer to Jean Segura in the third. Meanwhile, Teheran's lone strikeout tied a season low. Luckily, he'll get a chance for revenge with a rematch against Drew Smyly and the Phillies on Wednesday.
Sep 8 2019Teheran (10-8) picked up the win in Saturday's 5-4 victory over the Nationals, giving up one run on three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Atlanta bullpen made things interesting after he hit the showers, but Teheran was sharp once again in winning his third straight decision and delivering his fourth straight quality start. The right-hander has a 1.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB through 25 innings over that four-start stretch, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next outing Thursday in Philadelphia.

Jul 24 2018Teheran allowed nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits over 4.1 innings during Tuesday's loss at Miami. He struck out three and walked two.Teheran managed to throw 44 of 70 pitches for strikes but served up a two and three-run home runs to highlight a poor showing. The 27-year-old has a 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 101:53 K:BB across 110 innings, and will look for a bounce-back performance against the Marlins next Monday.
Jul 15 2018Teheran (7-6) tossed 6.1 scoreless innings Sunday to earn the win over the D-backs, allowing four hits and three walks with six strikeouts.Teheran pitched quite effectively on the day, allowing just two men past first base as he kept a formidable offense off the board. He needed just 79 pitches to make it into the seventh inning, but he allowed the first three men to reach and was pulled in favor of the bullpen. Teheran's gem capped off a solid close to the first half of the season in which he allowed just one run over 13 combined innings over his last two starts, lowering his ERA to 4.00 to go along with a serviceable 1.21 WHIP.
Jul 11 2018Teheran allowed one run on three hits and three walks across 6.2 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.Teheran performed well in a pitcher's duel with Marcus Stroman, inducing 22 swinging strikes while helping his cause with eight groundball outs. The only major mistake he made came in the form of a solo home run from Justin Smoak, but he otherwise scattered baserunners in this peach of an outing. Teheran came into the game dealing with an illness, but the fact that he threw 107 pitches indicates that it's no longer an issue. He's alternated effective performances with poor ones over his last seven and will look to buck that trend this weekend against the Nationals.
Jul 9 2018Teheran (illness) will start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.Following his July 4 loss to the Yankees in New York, Teheran was sent back to Atlanta after falling victim to the flu. It appears that all Teheran needed was a few days of rest for his condition to improve, so it's not expected that he'll face any limitations Tuesday in what likely shapes up as a two-start week for the right-hander. Since Max Fried (blister) was placed on the 10-day disabled list over the weekend and doesn't seem on track to return prior to the All-Star break, the Braves could get by with a four-man rotation this week thanks to off days Monday and Thursday. Teheran's second start would come Sunday at home against the Diamondbacks in the Braves' final game of the first half.
Jul 5 2018Teheran was sent back to Atlanta after feeling ill, but he's expected to make his scheduled start Tuesday against Toronto, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves elected to keep Teheran away from his teammates in an effort to contain the sickness, especially since he isn't slated to start until next week. He'll be listed as day-to-day, but he should be ready to go for Tuesday's series opener.
Jul 4 2018Teheran (6-6) took the loss Wednesday as the Braves fell 6-2 to the Yankees, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings while striking out 10.It's the second time in four starts the right-hander has posted double-digit strikeouts, but despite that Teheran has been anything but consistent lately, giving up zero runs in two of those outings and 12 in the other two. He's also issued multiple free passes in nine straight starts, making him a risky fantasy play when he next takes the mound Tuesday at home against the Blue Jays.
Jun 29 2018Teheran (6-5) tossed six shutout innings and allowed just two hits and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the win Friday over the Cardinals.Teheran needed just 88 pitches to get through six innings and probably could have gone into the seventh, but he was pinch hit for in the top of the frame. Teheran has now thrown six innings of shutout baseball in two of his past four starts, but he allowed 11 runs over a combined 8.2 innings in the other two outings. That kind of maddening inconsistency has defined Teheran's season, and he'll carry a 4.21 ERA into his next start Wednesday against the Yankees as a result.
Jun 23 2018Teheran (5-5) took the loss Saturday, coughing up seven runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings while striking out six as the Braves fell 7-5 to the Orioles. While he got hit hard when he was in the strike zone, Teheran continues to struggle with his control. The right-hander's walked exactly three batters in an amazing seven straight starts, posting a 6.05 ERA and 31:21 K:BB in 38.2 innings over that stretch. Teheran will try to get back on track in his next outing Friday in St. Louis.
Jun 20 2018Teheran (hamstring) will take the mound against Baltimore on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.Teheran battled a minor cramping issue in the sixth inning of Sunday's outing versus San Diego, during which he threw six hitless frames while striking out 11. That said, he should be fully healthy heading and pitching without any limitations for Saturday's contest.
Jun 17 2018Teheran started to cramp up in his right hamstring during the sixth inning of Sunday's outing against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran was able to finish the inning, but he didn't have much flexibility in his hamstring upon reaching the dugout and he was lifted from the game following the sixth frame, per Bowman. He'll be listed as day-to-day moving forward, with the extent of the injury currently unknown. Teheran's next start would likely come Sunday against the Orioles if he's healthy.
Jun 16 2018Teheran (thumb) was activated off the 10-day disabled list Saturday ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran was expected to be activated Sunday, but the placement of Mike Foltynewicz on the disabled list prompted the move a day early. Teheran had a 4.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 71 innings prior to suffering the thumb injury in early June.
Jun 14 2018Teheran (thumb) hopes to return from the disabled list to start Sunday's series finale against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran has been on the disabled list since June 5 with a right thumb contusion, but it sounds like his stay on the shelf could be a brief one. He's scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday, and if all goes well, he'll be cleared to rejoin the Braves' rotation over the weekend. Prior to landing on the DL, Teheran compiled a 4.31 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 56:33 K:BB across 13 starts (71 innings).
Jun 10 2018Teheran (thumb) hopes to return from the disabled list to start Friday's game against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran believes he'll only require the minimum 10 days on the disabled list before rejoining the Braves' starting rotation Friday against the Padres. The starter also mentioned that he's been dealing with arm soreness this season and is hopeful that his brief stay on the DL will help alleviate that issue moving forward and provide him with an uptick in pitch velocity, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Jun 8 2018Teheran (thumb) was able to begin throwing Friday, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Teheran landed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a right thumb bruise, although it's positive news that he's already started to throw. If all goes well, he'll likely be ready to come off the DL after the minimum 10 days.
Jun 5 2018Teheran was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a right thumb contusion.Teheran jammed his thumb while batting during Monday's game, and while X-rays came back negative, the issue is apparently bothersome enough to warrant a stay on the shelf. He'll be eligible to return June 15 should he ultimately prove ready. Thanks to a pair of well-placed off days, the Braves can move forward with a four-man rotation until June 16. Luke Jackson was summoned to the majors in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 5 2018Teheran described his injury as a "jammed thumb" after Monday's game, Jay Paris of MLB.com reports. "It happened in [my] last at-bat, when [Padres starter Clayton Richard] threw me inside and it hurt. I thought I was going to be able to throw the ball, but I couldn't."An X-ray taken on the thumb after the game came back negative, and the Braves seem confident that Teheran won't miss his next start Sunday on the road against the Dodgers. The right-hander now sports a 4.31 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 56:33 K:BB through 71 innings on the year, but he's been struggling badly over his last five starts, stumbling to a 6.11 ERA and 14:15 K:BB over 28 frames with an ugly 2.6 HR/9.
Jun 4 2018Teheran exited Monday's tilt against the Padres with an apparent injury, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.Brian Snitker and the team trainer came out to check on Teheran after he issued a four-pitch walk to begin the fifth, and it was determined that he wouldn't be able to continue. Teheran was lifted after allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings. The location and severity of the injury remains unknown, so he'll be considered day-to-day until more information is released regarding his status.
May 30 2018Teheran (4-3) was tagged with the loss Wednesday as the Braves fell 4-1 to the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out three. The right-hander threw 61 of 104 pitches for strikes in recording his seventh quality start of the season. Teheran will carry a 4.03 ERA into his next outing Monday in San Diego.
May 26 2018Teheran (4-2) got hit with the loss against the Red Sox on Friday, giving up three earned runs on four hits over six innings, striking out four and walking three as the Braves fell 6-2.Teheran hurled a quality start in this one but took the loss anyway, as he was just outdueled by Boston's Eduardo Rodriguez. It was a solid bounce-back effort for the right-hander who had given up 10 earned runs over 11 innings in his previous two starts with just five strikeouts against six walks over that time. It's been a bit of a boom-or-bust start to the season for Teheran, who now has a 4.20 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP over 60 innings. He's scheduled to take the mound next in a home matchup against the Mets on Wednesday.
May 23 2018Teheran's next start has been pushed up to Friday in Boston, 680 The Fan reports. The Braves want to give Sean Newcomb an extra day of rest before his next start, so they are taking advantage of Thursday's off day to move Teheran up a day, pushing Newcomb to Saturday. Teheran had an excellent five start run from April 16 through May 9, logging a 1.24 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 29 innings over that stretch. However, he has given up 10 earned runs in 11 innings over his last two starts.
May 20 2018Teheran allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four across five innings Sunday as he didn't factor into the decision against the Marlins.Teheran was bailed out by his offense, who rallied from a 0-6 deficit to ultimately win the game 10-9. He fell apart in the fourth inning after allowing runs on a balk, an RBI single, and a grand slam. Sunday's outing was an uncharacteristic start for the 27-year-old, who sits with a 4-1 record and a 4.17 ERA through 10 starts this season. Teheran will look to bounce back in his next start, which figures to come Saturday against Boston.
May 14 2018Teheran (4-1) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks across six innings to earn the win Monday against the Cubs. He struck out one.Teheran fell victim to the long ball on a couple of occasions, allowing two-run home runs to Albert Almora and Kris Bryant to account for the major damage to his ledger. He was quite effective aside from those two instances, winning his fourth straight decision on the back of some late offensive support. Teheran had tossed 13 consecutive scoreless innings over his last two starts and still has a solid 3.49 ERA after this outing. He'll look to exploit a friendlier matchup with the Marlins in his next scheduled appearance.
May 10 2018Teheran (3-1) picked up the win over the Rays on Wednesday, scattering four hits over six scoreless innings while striking out seven. The right-hander extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings, throwing 62 of 93 pitches for strikes and allowing only one baserunner past second base. Teheran now carries a 3.14 ERA and 42:18 K:BB through 43 innings heading into Monday's road start against the Cubs.
May 3 2018Teheran (2-1) picked up the win after tossing seven scoreless innings against the Mets on Thursday, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six.Teheran exited his previous start with upper-back tightness, but his strong showing Thursday should ease any worries regarding the ailment. He was dealing in the one, carrying a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before Asdrubal Cabrera knocked a two-out double. The 27-year-old has now notched four quality starts in his past five outings, with his injury-shortened start against the Phillies marking the only time he didn't toss six innings in that stretch. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next start, which should come on the road against the Rays.
May 3 2018Teheran (back) will pitch against the Mets on Thursday.Teheran was forced to exit his previous start last Friday due to upper-back tightness but the right-hander experienced no problems this week and doesn't appear to be facing any restrictions during Thursday's outing. Over six starts in 2018, he's logged a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with a 29:16 K:BB in 30 innings.
May 1 2018The Braves are targeting Thursday's game against the Mets for Teheran's (back) next turn through the rotation, Grant McAuley of 92-9 The Game Atlanta reports.Teheran exited his last outing Friday against the Phillies with upper-back tightness, but it doesn't appear that a trip to the disabled list will be necessary after he completed a bullpen session Sunday without any reported complications. However, the Braves evidently felt it was prudent to build in an extra day of rest for Teheran, so he'll be pushed back in the pitching schedule to start the series finale in New York. In addition to benefiting from another day to recover from the back injury, Teheran will miss out on a head-to-head matchup with Jacob deGrom and will instead face off against Jason Vargas, which should enhance Teheran's chances of coming away with a win.
Apr 29 2018Teheran (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. With this latest news, Teheran remains on track to start Wednesday against the Mets. Teheran had started six games prior to landing on the disabled list, over which he'd posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 30 innings. He'd been lacking much control and walked 16 batters in that time.
Apr 27 2018Teheran (back) believes he'll be fine for his next start after exiting Friday's game after three innings, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.Teheran was pulled after struggling through 43 pitches (23 strikes) Friday due to upper back tightness, with his fastball topping out at only 87.5 mph. Regardless, Teheran and manager Brian Snitker indicated the right-hander would be okay for his next scheduled start, which is currently slated to be against the Mets on Wednesday.
Apr 27 2018Teheran exited Friday's game against the Phillies with right upper back tightness.Teheran struggled through three innings Friday, allowing three earned runs on two walks and two hits with two strikeouts. More cause for concern is the fact that the right-hander's fastball topped out at 87.5 mph, when the pitch usual sits in the low-90s, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The severity of the injury is unknown at this point, but more information should become available as the 27-year-old is further evaluated.
Apr 21 2018Teheran (1-1) had to settle for a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Mets, dealing seven scoreless innings while scattering four hits and a walk and striking out six.The Mets only got two runners into scoring position against Teheran on the night, as he threw 61 of 98 pitches for strikes and generated 13 swinging strikes. After a rocky start to the season, the right-hander has now delivered three straight quality starts to lower his ERA to 4.00. He'll next take the mound Thursday in Cincinnati.
Apr 17 2018Teheran (1-1) allowed one run on five hits and three walks and struck out nine through six innings in a win Monday over the Phillies. After struggling his first couple times out, it looks like Teheran is starting to find his rhythm. Since a blowup against the Nationals April 3, Teheran has now fired off consecutive quality starts with 16 strikeouts over just 12 innings, but his ERA still sits at just 5.40.
Apr 15 2018Teheran will start Monday's game against the Phillies.Teheran was scheduled to start Sunday against the Cubs, but that game was postponed due to inclement weather. He'll now be tasked with taking on a more manageable Phillies' lineup.
Apr 15 2018Teheran will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Cubs as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather. The makeup game has been scheduled for May 14. Teheran could have his start pushed back a day for Monday's tilt against the Phillies, but no formal announcement has been made at this time.
Apr 10 2018Teheran (0-1) took the loss against the Nationals on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks over six innings while striking out seven. The walk total is a little misleading, as two of them were issued to Bryce Harper, who the Braves pitched around all game. Teheran looked good after giving up a two-run double in the first innig, but with Max Scherzer busy firing a two-hit shutout, that stumble was enough to cost Teheran the game. The right-hander will next take the mound Sunday on the road against the Cubs.
Apr 4 2018Teheran didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Nationals, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks across 2.1 innings. He struck out two.Teheran was victimized by the long ball in this one, allowing a two-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the first inning before opposing pitcher A.J. Cole and Bryce Harper launched solo shots in the second and third, respectively. It's a shame Teheran couldn't make it deeper into the game, as his side eventually broke open a big lead which surely would have resulted in his first win of the season. The early returns aren't promising for the one-time top prospect, who has a 10.13 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP through his first eight innings in 2018.
Mar 29 2018Teheran pitched 5.2 innings Thursday against the Phillies, allowing four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three.Teheran struggled mightily in 2017 when pitching at home and against left-handed batters, both of which garnered a lot of attention throughout the season. Less talked about was the fact that his walk rate was 3.44 BB/9, up from his career rate of 2.59 BB/9. Those struggles continued on Opening Day, as he walked three and surrendered a home run to Cesar Hernandez, a switch-hitter who was batting left-handed. Until there are signs of improvement in his ability to prevent home runs and improve his control, it will be difficult to trust using Teheran consistently.
Mar 29 2018Teheran will take the mound Thursday at home against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Opening Day.The 27-year-old is looking to rebound from his worst season since becoming a full-time starter, as he posted a 4.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and career-low 7.2 K/9 in 2017. Teheran's 17:6 K:BB in 25.2 innings this spring doesn't suggest he's regained any lost dominance, though, and with a horde of young pitching prospects clamoring for spots in the big-league rotation, this could well prove to be his final Opening Day assignment for the Braves -- if not his final season in an Atlanta uniform entirely.
Mar 20 2018Teheran tossed 6.2 scoreless innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five. The 27-year-old has been stingy all spring when it comes to runs, but it's reassuring to see him miss some bats as well -- Teheran now has a 12:5 K:BB through 20.2 innings. The Braves' Opening Day starter is looking to rebound from his worst full season in the majors, a campaign that included a career-low 7.2 K/9, and he'll likely need to find some of those lost strikeouts if he's going to bring down his 4.49 ERA.
Mar 19 2018Teheran will start on the mound for the Braves in their season opener against the Phillies. The move is hardly a surprise, as it will be the fifth Opening Day start for the 27-year-old righty. He may be the best pitcher on the Braves, but he wouldn't receive that designation on many other teams, as he posted a 4.49 ERA last year and an even worse 4.95 FIP. His strikeout, walk and groundball rates were all worse than the league average. He also may not be Atlanta's best pitcher for long, as the organization has a stable of pitching prospects in the high minors ready to challenge him for that crown. Still, he's the best they have for now and has a very stable rotation spot as a result, despite last year's struggles.
Mar 11 2018Rival evaluators have tracked Teheran's fastball velocity at around 88-to-89 miles per hour during spring training, Buster Olney of ESPN reports. While it's normal for velocities to be down in the spring following dormant offseasons, Teheran's decline is still a sizable one, as he averaged 91.4 miles per hour on his fastball in 2017, according to FanGraphs. Teheran's struggles with regaining the usual zip on his pitches hasn't hindered him so far this spring, however, with the right-hander turning in four scoreless outings. Those investing in Teheran will still want to keep an eye on the velocity reports in his final outings of the spring, but with no indication from the Braves that the 27-year-old is compensating for an injury, his fantasy stock shouldn't be dramatically affected.
Mar 7 2018Teheran has been working on throwing more first-pitch strikes this spring, in addition to increasing the use of his changeup in order to become less predictable, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The changeup was Teheran's best weapons when he broke into the big leagues several years ago, but he was throwing the pitch at the second-lowest rate of his career in 2017. In addition to struggling with his changeup, Teheran's slider was less effective last season, and he leaned on his fastball at his highest clip (64.5 percent) since 2012. With an improving lineup around him, Teheran could bounce back from a disappointing campaign if he's able to regain the effectiveness of his secondary pitches.
Mar 4 2018Teheran tossed three scoreless innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. The Braves' likely Opening Day starter has had a strong start to his spring, and Teheran has yet to give up a run through five innings. The 27-year-old has made at least 30 starts in each of the last five seasons, so his durability isn't a concern, but his results have been erratic. Given all the young pitching talent in the organization that will be pushing for jobs in the next couple of years, Teheran could well find himself in another uniform by the trade deadline, even -- or especially -- if he gets his 2018 campaign off to a good start.
Feb 28 2018Teheran spent the offseason working to regain a more consistent feel for his slider, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. After an inconsistent 2017 campaign, Teheran is looking to rely on his secondary offerings more in 2018. The 27-year-old saw his slider usage drop from 26.3 percent in 2016 to just 19.4 percent in 2017, which may help explain the similar drop in his strikeout rate (from 22 percent in 2016 to 18.6 percent in 2017). He's also looking to incorporate his changeup more often this season, as it's consistently been his least utilized secondary pitch. While Teheran is hoping his offseason adjustments will help him bounce back in 2018, it would be wise to wait and see how his stuff looks this spring before putting faith in him, as he's still a risky investment.
Sep 28 2017Teheran (11-13) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out just three batters through six innings to take the loss to Miami on Thursday. After posting a 2.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through his previous six outings, this was a disappointing night cap to Teheran's 2017 campaign. He'll finish the season with an underwhelming 4.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 7.2 K/9. Still, because of his previous success and flashes of excellence, Terehan projects to remain a polarizing fantasy commodity entering the 2018 campaign.
Sep 23 2017Teheran allowed two runs -- only one earned -- on seven hits and a walk while striking out five batters through seven innings during Saturday's win over Philadelphia. He didn't factor into the decision.Teheran entered with a 2.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 7.6 K/9 through his previous five outings, and Saturday's solid showing only improved those marks. The 26-year-old righty has clearly hit stride down the stretch when it matters most, so he's probably worth considering in his final start against Miami at Marlins Park. This has also been an encouraging stretch for Teheran's 2018 fantasy outlook.
Sep 17 2017Teheran (11-12) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out seven batters through six innings while taking the loss to the Mets on Sunday.Teheran entered with a four-game winning streak and had allowed just six runs through 26 innings during that stretch. This was another strong outing from the 26-year-old righty, and he's worked his year-long numbers down to a 4.52 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with the late-season surge. It's been a nice finish to an otherwise disappointing campaign. Teheran lines up to face the Phillies at home before starting against Miami at Marlins Park to finish the year.
Sep 12 2017Teheran (11-11) tossed seven scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts.Teheran scattered baserunners throughout the evening, but he induced nine groundball outs to help avoid serious damage. He threw 65 percent of his pitches for strikes while delivering his fourth quality start in the last six tries. Teheran's recent success has lowered his ERA to 4.57 -- his lowest mark in roughly four months. He will look to keep it going in a favorable matchup Sunday against the Mets.
Sep 6 2017Teheran (10-11) gave up five hits and issued five walks over just five innings Wednesday against Texas, though he was able to limit the damage to three runs and pick up the win.Teheran's third consecutive win won't spruce this outing up at all, as he offered no ratio help whatsoever. The 26-year-old righty has utterly failed to build on last season's fine results, as he's on pace to post easily his worst ERA and WHIP since his rookie year.
Sep 5 2017Teheran's next start was pushed to Wednesday against the Rangers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. He was scheduled to start Tuesday, but the Braves are promoting one of their top pitching prospects, Luiz Gohara, to make that start. Teheran will be pitching on two extra days of rest as a result. It is unclear if the Braves will go with a six-man rotation the rest of the way or if someone will be bumped in favor of Gohara.
Aug 30 2017Teheran (9-11) picked up the win over the Phillies in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, giving up only one run on five hits and a walk over 6.2 innings while striking out eight. The righty fired 72 of 109 pitches for strikes while putting together his third quality start in his last four outings. Teheran's teased regaining last year's form before this season before stumbling again, so it's too soon to say he can be relied upon in fantasy lineups again, but his 4,75 ERA is now the lowest it's been in over a month.
Aug 26 2017Teheran (8-11) picked up the win Friday against the Rockies, allowing two runs on five hits over 7.1 innings while striking out four. The Braves spotted the right-hander a 5-0 lead through two innings, and it was relatively smooth sailing from there. It was Teheran's first quality start at SunTrust Field in over a month, and just his second win at home on the season -- with his first coming way back on April 14 in his debut at the new park. It's too soon to say he's overcome his issues in the so-called friendly confines, where he has a 6.54 ERA as compared to a 3.24 ERA on the road, but he won't have to worry about it in his next start Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Aug 19 2017Teheran (7-11) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven across six innings to take the loss Saturday against the Reds.Teheran had allowed just a single run going into the fourth inning, but he struggled during his second and third times through the lineup. This was the fifth time over his last six outings that he's failed to post a quality start, and with a 5.02 ERA, he's a risky player to trust in fantasy lineups. He'll make his next start Friday against the Rockies.
Aug 14 2017Teheran pitched seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts during Monday's loss to Colorado. He didn't factor into the decision. It's never wise to overreact to a start at Coors Field, but normally that's because pitchers under perform at the hitter-friendly venue. This was one of a very few bright spots for Teheran this season, as he sports a disappointing 4.98 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 7.1 K/9 for the campaign. It's become difficult to count on the former fantasy stalwart, and Teheran's dynasty/keeper stock is probably now at an all-time low. He projects to face the Reds at SunTrust Park in his next outing.
Aug 9 2017Teheran (7-10) coughed up five runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings while striking out six in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies. He carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning before the wheels came off, but given his issues at SunTrust Park this year it was only a matter of time until the Phillies got to him. Teheran now has a 7.07 ERA in 12 home starts, compared to a 3.57 ERA in 11 away starts, and his K/9, BB/9 and HR/9 are all worse in the so-called friendly confines as well. He'll next take the mound Monday, and while the Braves are on the road, it will be to begin a four-game set at Coors Field.
Aug 8 2017Teheran (thigh) will start Tuesday's game against the Phillies.Teheran exited his previous outing Aug. 2 prematurely after experiencing cramping in his right thigh, but it was never anything that was expected to jeopardize his availability for his subsequent start. The right-hander should face no restrictions Tuesday, though he may not make for an enticing DFS option after he was roughed up in his most recent matchup with the Phillies on July 28. He lasted just 4.2 innings in that start, giving up eight runs on seven hits (three home runs) and two walks.
Aug 3 2017Teheran (thigh) is expected to make his next scheduled start against the Phillies on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran was removed from Wednesday's start after the fifth inning due to right thigh cramping. The right-hander will get an extra day to recover as Atlanta gets a scheduled day off Monday before hosting Philadelphia, so he should be able to give it a go after resting this weekend. In the event that Teheran is unable to go, Sean Newcomb figures to make Tuesday's start on normal rest.
Aug 2 2017Teheran was prematurely lifted from Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to right thigh cramping.Teheran appeared to tweak something in his leg during an at-bat in the fourth inning, and while he was able to pitch another inning, he was ultimately lifted after tossing just 64 pitches. He allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four through five innings before being replaced by Sam Freeman. It's unclear if the issue will force him to miss a turn in the rotation, though that should become clearer as he tests things out in the coming days. The Braves are working with an off-day Monday, so he'll have a little extra time to get ready before his turn comes around again.
Jul 28 2017Teheran (7-9) allowed eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday against the Phillies.Teheran was pitching well until giving up three homers and a total of seven runs in a disastrous fifth inning, leading to his ninth loss of the campaign. Although he has a brutal 5.09 ERA, he came into this contest allowing just four runs over his last 19.1 innings covering three starts, so he's recently been an effective fantasy option. He's prone to having horrendous outings, but if fantasy owners can live with the downside, the majority of his starts over the past two months have been solid. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Jul 22 2017Teheran gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six over 6.1 innings Saturday against the Dodgers. It really could have been a lot worse, as Teheran was facing a Dodgers offense that destroys right-handed pitching, and he somehow gave up three home runs and nine hits while only yielding four total runs. Teheran had recently strung together three straight quality starts, lowering his ERA from 5.30 to 4.69, prior to Saturday's start. He will look to get back on track Friday in Philadelphia.
Jul 17 2017Teheran (7-7) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five batters through six innings during Monday's loss to the Cubs.It had been a year-long struggle at SunTrust Park for Teheran, so Monday's showing was a welcomed step in the right direction for fantasy owners. He's posted a high-end 2.53 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the road, so it might be best to consider utilizing him in away matchups only moving forward. It's also worth noting that his 6.6 K/9 is well below the 7.9 mark he posted through the past four seasons. Teheran lines up for a daunting road matchup against the Dodgers in his next start.
Jul 8 2017Teheran (7-6) allowed no runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five across seven innings to earn the win Saturday against the Nationals.Teheran was provided a 6-0 lead after three innings and easily coasted to his seventh victory of the campaign. He's now had two consecutive solid starts, and he owns a 4.79 ERA, but based on some of the horrendous outings he's had this year, he still remains as a fantasy option with significant risk. He'll make his next start at a time yet to be determined after the All-Star break.
Jul 3 2017Teheran allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out eight batters through 6.1 innings during Sunday's win over Oakland. He didn't factor into the decision. The eight punchouts were a season high for Teheran, and despite allowing another home run, this was easily one of his better starts of the season. The long ball has been a serious problem of late, as Teheran owns a 2.7 HR/9 through his past nine games and a 1.9 mark for the year. It's probably still best to be selective with his matchups, too. He projects to face Washington at Nationals Park in his next start, which is obviously a daunting test.
Jun 25 2017Teheran (6-6) allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters through just three innings during Sunday's loss to Milwaukee. The righty surrendered two more home runs Sunday and has now allowed 14 through his past eight starts to balloon his HR/9 to 1.9 for the campaign. It's a concerning trend for Teheran, and his 5.30 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 6.2 K/9 shouldn't instill much confidence in his fantasy upside moving forward. A road start against the Athletics is up next for Teheran.
Jun 20 2017Teheran (6-5) went 7.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Giants, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. He struck out two and didn't walk anyone.Teheran was absolutely cruising through the Giants' lineup through the game's first seven innings, but things quickly fell apart in the eighth. An infield single and an error got the inning started, and then Teheran made his one mistake: a three-run homer by Austin Slater. Another infield single ended up being the fourth run on his line after he departed. This one's got to be a bit frustrating for Teheran owners because it was going so well before he ran into some tough luck and made a bad pitch at a bad time, but he's still turned in three straight quality starts.
Jun 14 2017Teheran (6-4) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings in Wednesday's 13-2 rout of the Nationals. He made only one real mistake, which Brian Goodwin deposited into the seats for a two-run homer, but otherwise Teheran was sharp in recording his fifth quality start in his last seven outings. Blowups in the other two starts have left the right-hander with an unsightly 4.86 ERA on the year, but he'll try to shave that down a little further Tuesday at home against the Giants.
Jun 10 2017Teheran allowed one run over six innings on four hits and three walks, with three strikeouts, Friday against the Mets.Although he earned the win in his last start despite giving up seven runs, it's good to see Teheran limit the damage this time out. Due to all of his inconsistencies this season, the right-hander's ERA currently sits at an alarming 5.08 and he only has 54 strikeouts in 72.2 innings.
Jun 4 2017Teheran (5-4) allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out four batters during Sunday's win over Cincinnati.Atlanta spotted its starter nine runs through the first three innings, and Teheran was able to get out of the fifth inning to put himself in line for the win. Obviously, this was a poor outing from Teheran, but collecting the win helps soften the blow to his ratios. He sports a 5.40 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 6.9 K/9 for the campaign and lines up for a home start against the Mets next.
May 30 2017Teheran (4-4) gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings in Monday's 6-3 win over the Angels. He struck out five.Teheran's problems all stemmed from the long ball, as he gave up a trio of solo shots to Andrelton Simmons, Albert Pujols and Luis Valbuena. He allowed just three singles otherwise and was able to throw 61 of 91 pitches for strikes overall. The 26-year-old right-hander now has back-to-back quality starts after being touched up for nine runs on eight hits over three innings by the Blue Jays on May 18, and he's managed to lower his ERA from the season-high 5.47 it had ballooned to following that outing to its current 4.82 figure. The right-hander will look to keep things moving in the right direction when he takes on the Reds at Great American Ballpark next Saturday.
May 25 2017Teheran gave up three runs -- all unearned -- on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in Wednesday's no-decision against Pittsburgh. He was long gone when the Pirates won this game with a seven-run 10th inning. A second-inning error by Jace Peterson set Teheran up for a three-run homer by Adam Frazier, but he did pretty spotless work otherwise -- a welcome improvement after the nine-run disaster he suffered through against Toronto last week. The results have certainly been spotty for Teheran this season, thanks in large part to a decrease in strikeout rate and an increase in walk rate, but this start gives his fantasy owners something to hang their hats on. Teheran does, after all, have a strong track record that suggests there's some sort of anomaly in play here.
May 20 2017Teheran switched spots in Atlanta's rotation with R.A. Dickey and is now scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The Braves altering their rotation will result in Teheran's next start being pushed back a day, as he'd initially been tabbed to return to the mound Tuesday. Teheran's season has gotten off to an unusually rocky start, as he's sporting a lofty 5.47 ERA and 1.52 WHIP to go with a 3-4 record.
May 19 2017Teheran (3-4) allowed nine runs on eight hits and a walk over three innings Thursday in a loss to Toronto. He struck out two.It was a rough outing for the Atlanta ace, who was coming off of one of his better performances of the season. Even including that start, Teheran has a 8.31 ERA over his last 30.1 innings pitched; equally as alarming is the strikeouts are down while the walks are up so drastically from last season. He'll take his next turn on Tuesday at home against Pittsburgh.
May 13 2017Teheran (3-3) dealt six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out four Marlins en route to Saturday's win.Saturday was just what the doctor ordered for Teheran, who had allowed 19 runs over his previous four outings (21.1 innings). The Braves' ace now has five quality starts through eight games this season. Teheran's strikeout rate remains noticeably down from previous years, but most would assume -- based on the 26-year-old's track record -- that the punchouts will improve as the campaign moves along. He'll look to notch back-to-back wins for the first time in 2017 when he takes the mound at home Thursday against the Blue Jays in his next start.
May 7 2017Teheran (2-3) surrendered four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking oujt just three batters over five innings during Saturday's loss to St. Louis. It's been a poor four-game stretch for Teheran. He's allowed 19 runs through 21.1 innings with just 15 strikeouts and a single win. His current 4.69 ERA and 1.51 WHIP are crippling ratios, and after posting a respectable 7.9 K/9 over the previous four years, Teheran's 6.7 mark is discouraging. He'll look to turn things around in a road start against Miami next week.
May 1 2017Teheran (2-2) allowed six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five over six innings in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Mets.It was Teheran's second bad start in six outings so far this year, and walks continue to be an issue for the right-hander. He's now walked 18 and struck out 27 in 35.1 innings, and his 6.88 K/9 isn't all that impressive, either. Teheran's ERA sits at 4.33 after the bad outing, and he'll need to continue limiting fly balls and home runs in order to be successful.
Apr 26 2017Teheran (2-1) held the Mets to two runs on four hits and four walks over 6.1 innings in Wednesday's 8-2 victory. He struck out four.Walks have been an issue for Teheran in the early going, as his 22:15 K:BB in 29.1 innings isn't too impressive. The righty does have a solid 3.38 ERA, but it comes with an ugly 1.40 WHIP that seems to be inviting regression. Indeed, both FIP (4.07) and xFIP (5.15) point to Teheran getting off quite lucky to this point. That said, he'll draw a rematch against the all-or-nothing Mets offense on Monday, and if the 26-year-old continues limiting homers as he has been, he could keep the good times rolling.
Apr 25 2017Teheran is now scheduled to start Wednesday against the Mets following Tuesday's postponement, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports. The Braves will keep their entire rotation in order, with everyone simply moving back a day following the rainout. After three straight quality starts to open the 2017 campaign, Teheran was rocked four seven runs over four innings against Washington his last time out. He has an 18:11 K:BB in 23 innings so far this season.
Apr 20 2017Teheran (1-1) was hammered for seven runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings in Wednesday's 14-4 loss to the Nationals. He struck out three. His nemesis Bryce Harper did most of the damage, launching a solo shot in the first inning and a grand slam in the second to put Teheran and the Braves in a hole from which they couldn't recover. The 26-year-old's control has been shaky so far -- he's walked at least three batters in three of four outings -- but he came into Wednesday having recorded three straight quality starts and will look to get back on track Tuesday on the road against the Mets.
Apr 15 2017Teheran (1-0) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five over six innings in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres. It wasn't his sharpest outing so far this season -- in fact, the two runs were the first he's given up through three starts -- but Teheran still threw 66 of 105 pitches for strikes and wound up as the pitcher of record in the Braves' first-ever game at SunTrust Park, their new home stadium. The righty will get a tougher test in his next start Wednesday at home against the Nationals.
Apr 11 2017Teheran will make his next start Friday against the Padres, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network reports.Atlanta's ace was originally scheduled to take the mound Sunday, but manager Brian Snitker opted to send Teheran to the mound to christen the Braves' new ballpark. He'll be followed by R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon, with Jaime Garcia and Mike Foltynewicz waiting until next week to make their next appearances. This lines Teheran up to face Padres' Opening Day starter Jhoulys Chacin.
Apr 9 2017Teheran (0-0) allowed two runs (none earned) on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts across seven innings Sunday against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.Teheran was terrific for the second straight start, needing just 87 pitches, 63 of which went for strikes, to move through seven frames. The Pirates did plate a couple of runs in the fourth, but they were not charged to his ledger due to an error by Freddie Freeman that prolonged the inning. Despite another quality start, Teheran was unable to come away with the victory again due to a bullpen meltdown that saw them lose the game. He has done his part with an ERA of zero through 13 innings and will look to nab that elusive first win next Sunday against the Padres.
Apr 3 2017Teheran tossed six scoreless innings, allowing four runs and three walks while striking out six in a no-decision on Opening Day against the Nationals.Monday's performance embodied everything there is to love and hate about owning Teheran. Even when he isn't at his best -- which was the case against the Nats -- the immensely-talented righty is capable of navigating his way through even the most treacherous of lineups. On the other hand, Teheran's pathetic run support limits his appeal in formats that place a value on wins. It's only one game, but it's understandable why owners of the Braves' ace push forward with trepidation. Teheran is slated to make his next start Sunday in Pittsburgh.
Mar 25 2017Teheran gave up two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning by striking out Jose Iglesias and Tyler Collins and for the most part Teheran looked ready for the regular season, throwing 59 of his 88 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old will make one more spring start against minor leaguers before his Opening Day assignment for the Braves.
Mar 24 2017Teheran's Friday start will be his last Grapefruit League outing this year, and his final warm-up game will come against minor leaguers sometime next week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Atlanta's Opening Day starter will be handled carefully the week before he kicks off the season. Teheran has twirled an ERA of 3.21 or lower in three of his first four full MLB seasons and looks primed to sit near the top of many fantasy rotations in 2017.
Mar 19 2017Teheran was named the Braves' Opening Day starter Sunday. It's the fourth consecutive Opening Day nod for Teheran, who will take on the Mets on April 3. The 26-year-old enjoyed a nice bounce-back season in 2016, trimming his ERA from 4.04 to 3.21 while submitting a 16.6% K-BB percentage, his best mark since 2012.
Mar 12 2017Teheran allowed one run on two hits and a walk over five innings while striking out three in Team Colombia's 4-1 WBC win over Team Canada on Saturday. He tossed 61 pitches, 36 for strikes, and after running into a bit of trouble in the first inning Teheran settled down and retired the final 13 batters he faced. Colombia now sits at 1-1 in Pool C, but might need a victory over the defending champs, the Dominican Republic, on Sunday to advance to the second round.
Mar 4 2017Teheran gave up three hits and a walk in three shutout innings Friday, striking out three, in his final Grapefruit League start before leaving camp to play in the WBC.He's looked extremely good through the early part of camp. and Teheran seems just about ready for the regular season, much less the WBC. The 26-year-old has made at least 30 starts in four straight seasons, posting a career-best 1.05 WHIP in 2016, and he'll be a key piece of the rebuilding Braves' rotation this year.
Feb 27 2017Teheran tossed two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one, in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He threw 18 of 30 pitches for strikes and worked in all his breaking pitches, as he gets ready to pitch for Team Colombia in the WBC. Teheran failed to reach 200 innings last year for the first time since 2013, but his 2.0 BB/9 was the best rate of his career, and with an improving team around him the 26-year-old could be headed for a big 2017.
Feb 9 2017Teheran will pitch for Team Colombia at the WBC, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 26-year-old has a strong bounceback campaign in 2016, and will be the ace of a Colombia staff that lacks established major league arms aside from the White Sox's Jose Quintana. Teheran could make a quick return to camp for the Braves, though, as Colombia is in a tough qualifying group that also features Team USA and the defending champions, the Dominican Republic.
Oct 3 2016Teheran struck out 12 and walked just one while allowing three hits across seven shutout innings in Sunday's win over Detroit.Teheran was shelled in his previous appearance, but he bounced back with one of his most dominant outings of the season to prevent Detroit from earning a playoff berth. Teheran enjoyed an excellent season despite being on one of the worst teams in baseball, as he compiled a 3.21 ERA and a career-best 1.05 WHIP with 167 strikeouts across 188 innings. He appears poised to continue his evolution into a front-line pitcher in what will be his age 26 season in 2017.
Sep 28 2016Teheran pitched four innings, allowing six runs, 10 hits and two walks while striking out three Phillies in a no-decision Tuesday.A rain delay ended the night for both team's starters after four innings, but Teheran was drowning in his worst performance of the year before the storm rolled through. For the first time since July of 2014, Teheran allowed 10-plus hits over four or fewer innings. The six earned runs tied a season high for Teheran, although he had pitched six-plus innings in the two other six-run outings. Lucky for him, the Braves rallied to keep the 25-year-old out of the loss column. He's slated to start the season finale Sunday against Detroit.
Sep 25 2016Teheran's next start has been pushed back after Sunday's game against the Marlins was cancelled following the tragic death of Miami ace Jose Fernandez.Fernandez, one of the game's top young starters, was one of three people found dead in a boating accident off Miami Beach early Sunday. Given what the 24-year-old meant to the Miami organization and the sport of baseball, Major League Baseball determined it wouldn't be appropriate to expect the Marlins to play. The Braves will open up a series with the Phillies on Tuesday, so look for Teheran to get back on the mound for the start in that game.
Sep 20 2016Teheran (6-10) threw seven innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Mets, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out one and earning the win.Teheran pitched more to contact on Tuesday, striking out just one batter in a start for the first time all season. He's has been one of the league's unluckiest pitchers, entering the game with a 5-10 record despite a 3.18 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, so the five runs of support were more than he's used to. It was a nice bounce-back start for Teheran after giving up five runs his last time out against the Marlins. He'll look to go on his first winning streak of the year when he gets another crack at the Marlins on Sunday.
Sep 15 2016Teheran (5-10) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five Marlins in Wednesday's loss. For the second straight start, Teheran faced little adversity through his first five innings. The right-hander surrendered an RBI single to Martin Prado in the first before he quickly shook off the early damage to retire 13 of the next 15 batters. But like in his start against the Mets on Friday, Teheran struggled in the sixth, giving up two hits and plunking a batter before being chased by Marcell Ozuna's homer. After surrendering six runs in the sixth inning across his past two outings, Teheran's sixth-inning ERA sits at 5.49.
Sep 9 2016Teheran allowed two runs on four hits over six innings Friday. He walked two batters and hit another and did not factor into the decision.Teheran had the Mets shut down completely until giving up a two-run homer to Curtis Granderson in the sixth inning. He's beginning to find a late-season groove, having allowed just four runs over 19 innings in his last three starts and lowering his ERA and WHIP on the season to 3.01 and 1.03, respectively. He'll square off against Jose Fernandez and the Marlins in his next start September 14.
Sep 4 2016Teheran (5-9) blanked the Phillies for six innings in Sunday's win, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out seven. He's been feasting on the dregs of the NL recently, posting a 15:2 K:BB over 13 innings while winning his last two starts against the Padres and Phillies, but they all count just the same. Teheran could face a little stiffer competition in his next start at home against the Mets on Saturday.
Aug 30 2016Teheran (4-9) tossed seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out eight and earning just his fourth win of the season against the Padres on Tuesday.Teheran's lone blemish came in the fifth with the Braves already leading 5-0, when he surrendered a two-run home run to outfielder Oswaldo Arcia. Teheran has been the victim of terrible run support this season, but the Braves' offense gave him seven runs Tuesday, more than enough. Teheran's 2.92 runs of support per game remain easily the lowest in the majors among qualifying pitchers. Yet Teheran's peripherals remain stellar, with a 3.12 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 4.25 K:BB ratio. His coughed up nine earned runs on 21 hits in his previous two starts after returning from a DL-stint, so it would seem Teheran is back on track going into the final month of the season.
Aug 25 2016Teheran gave up six runs on 11 hits in a road loss to Arizona on Wednesday, although he avoided the decision. He struck out four without a walk. The Braves mounted a late offensive surge to get Teheran off the hook, only to lose anyway an 11th-inning walkoff. The Braves' ace has allowed nine runs on 17 hits in 11 frames spanning two starts since he returned from a back injury, but he's faced a couple tough offenses in the Nats and D-backs. The Padres should provide Teheran with an easier mark when he next takes the mound Tuesday.
Aug 19 2016The Braves activated Teheran (back) from the disabled list Friday.Teheran is ready to return to action after missing nearly three weeks while recovering from a mild lat strain. Teheran posted just a 4.08 ERA in July, but he still sits with a 2.81 mark -- and also a 0.97 WHIP -- for the season. He will jump right into the Braves' rotation and take the ball Friday night against the Nationals.
Aug 18 2016Teheran (back) will be activated from the disabled list Friday to start against the Nationals. This was the plan for Teheran, and now it's become official, missing nearly the minimum amount of time prior to returning. Teheran has been the true ace of the Braves' staff this season, and will look to pick up where he left off prior to hitting the disabled list, having allowed just three runs over 16.0 innings in his last three starts.
Aug 17 2016Teheran (back) plans to come off the DL and start Friday's game against the Nationals, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan in Atlanta reports.Teheran hit the DL on August 2 with a strained right lat, but after throwing five innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett over the weekend, he's ready to return to the big league rotation. The right-hander holds a healthy 2.81 ERA on the season, but he's been slightly less effective in recent weeks, allowing 13 earned runs in 28.2 innings (4.08 ERA) since July 1.
Aug 16 2016Teheran (back) tossed five innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.Teheran was sharp Sunday, giving up just one earned run on three hits while posting a 5:0 K:BB and throwing 51 of his 73 pitches for strikes. The Braves have not confirmed that his next start will come with the big club, but there is a good chance that will be the case.
Aug 12 2016Teheran (back) will make a rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He has successfully ramped up his throwing over the past week and now faces one final hurdle on his road back from the disabled list. If all goes as planned Sunday and Teheran responds well in the days that follow, he will return Aug. 19 to face the Nationals at Turner Field. Teheran has put together a great season so far but the peripherals suggest he's overachieved some, with his FIP coming in at 3.69 (2.81 ERA).
Aug 11 2016Teheran (back) is expected to make one rehab start before rejoining the Braves during their upcoming homestand, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports. The right-hander threw a successful side session Thursday and he looks primed to make a minor league rehab start in the near future. If all goes well, Teheran will only need one outing before rejoining the Braves' rotation during their six-game homestand that gets underway Tuesday.
Aug 10 2016Teheran (lat strain) will throw off a mound Thursday and could be activated near the end of next week, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. This timetable seems somewhat optimistic, but it's possible, assuming he can get through his mound session and subsequent bullpen sessions without further aggravating his lat/back. While Teheran's 2.81 ERA is more than a full run lower than his 4.05 xFIP, there is no denying he was having quite the bounce back season after a disappointing 2015 campaign when he registered a 4.04 ERA. Continue to monitor his progress following Thursday's activity.
Aug 5 2016Teheran (back) will throw off flat ground Saturday, David O'Brien of the AJC reports.Saturday marks the first time Teheran will pick a ball back up after landing on the DL earlier in the week. Given that he's throwing off flat ground, the Braves likely will still need him to progress to throwing off a mound and then tossing bullpen sessions before considering activating their ace. An update on the next step of Teheran's rehab process figures to be made available Sunday when the team can gauge how his back responded to the increased activity.
Aug 2 2016The Braves have placed Teheran on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a right lat strain. It's unclear at this time how much recovery time Teheran will need, but since the Braves are out of the playoff race, expect them to be extra careful with their ace. Teheran will be eligible to return to pitch as early as August 14. After a rocky 2015, Teheran has had a really strong 2016 campaign, supporting a 2.81 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 119 strikeouts in 134.2 innings. This move opened up room to put Matt Kemp on the Braves 25-man roster.
Jul 30 2016Teheran (4-8) surrendered three runs on five hits while striking at four over five innings in the Braves 9-5 loss to the Phillies Saturday night. While the truncated started was likely precautionary -- the 25-year-old didn't return for the sixth inning after throwing just 86 pitches (56 strikes) -- Teheran didn't quite seem himself, as he struggled with precision and his fastball idled in the mid-80s all night. Teheran has yet to come away with a win at home this season despite a 3.08 ERA in 12 start at Turner Field. He is scheduled to next take the mound in St. Louis on Friday.
Jul 30 2016Teheran (back) has been confirmed as the starter for Saturday's game against the Phillies. The Braves' ace had been dealing with some back issues dating back to his last start July 22 when he felt discomfort in his lat. After being given a few extra days rest, Teheran will be able to take the mound for Saturday's matchup with the Phillies.
Jul 26 2016Teheran (back) will pitch Saturday against Philadelphia, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network reports.Initially scheduled to pitch Thursday, Teheran has felt fine and been able to throw from 120 feet without any pain. However, he's indicated that he would like a couple more days to make sure he's entirely healthy. At this point in time, Atlanta has yet to indicate who they'll start for Thursday's contest instead of Teheran.
Jul 23 2016Strength tests performed on Teheran (lat strain) Saturday produced encouraging results, and he remains hopeful that he won't need to miss a start, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. He said all he felt Saturday was the normal day-after-start soreness, and all of the reports seem to suggest optimism on the part of Teheran and the Braves regarding the mild lat strain that forced him from Friday's start in the fifth inning. More information will come out prior to his next scheduled start Thursday, but for now Teheran's owners can remain cautiously optimistic.
Jul 22 2016Teheran hopes he just has a mild lat strain and will be able to avoid the DL after leaving in the middle of Friday's game, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's David O'Brien reports. He felt some discomfort after throwing a pitch in the third inning, but continued to pitch before shortstop Erick Aybar convinced him to call for the trainer in the fifth inning. Teheran has been dealing all season, and it was the same again Friday prior to his exit, as he had tossed four shutout innings while striking out three. More information regarding his availability for his next scheduled start July 28 should be released in the coming days.
Jul 22 2016Teheran left Friday's game with right lat tightness and is day-to-day.He exited after chasing down a dribbler to the left side of the mound, but considering the injury was to his back/shoulder muscles, he may have suffered the injury while taking a hard swing during an earlier at-bat. Teheran tossed four shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out three before leaving with zero outs in the fifth inning. Consider him questionable to make his next scheduled start July 28 (Thursday) against the Phillies.
Jul 22 2016Teheran left Friday's game in the fifth inning after suffering an apparent lower-body injury while trying to field a slow roller. It's unclear what the nature of the injury is, but it could be lower-body related, given the nature of the play. He was shutting out the Rockies in Coors Field through four innings, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out three. His status will be updated when the team releases the specifics.
Jul 17 2016Teheran (3-8) threw seven scoreless innings Sunday, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out five, but came away with a no-decision in a 1-0 win over the Rockies.Despite a 2.90 ERA in 11 home starts this season, Teheran is just 0-4 in the so-called friendly confines as the woeful Braves offense has averaged just 2.0 runs a game in those starts. He'll be on the road for his next start Friday, but that's the extent of the good news as it'll be a rematch with the Rockies in Coors Field.
Jul 9 2016Teheran (3-8) allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two to take the loss Saturday at the White Sox.Teheran gave up a pair of runs in the second inning and followed that up by allowing three more in the third inning to saddle him with his eighth loss of the year. After going 13 straight starts without allowing more than three earned runs in a game, he's now allowed five runs in consecutive outings to raise his ERA to 2.96 on the season. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.
Jul 8 2016Teheran will start Saturday against the White Sox, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports. The Braves were forced to skip Teheran's scheduled start Wednesday but he will slot back in Saturday with the thigh infection cleared up. Teheran endured one of his worst starts of the season last week, giving up five runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings -- it was the first time he'd given up more than five hits since April 25. While he has not fared well historically against AL opponents (5.13 ERA), Teheran has been good in his two interleague starts so far this season.
Jul 7 2016Teheran (thigh) rejoined the team in Chicago, Kevin McAlpin of BravesRadioNet reports.Teheran missed his start on Wednesday due to a thigh infection but has rejoined the Braves and appears in line to make his next scheduled start. The 25-year-old has been dominant in his last five outings, compiling a 2.33 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over 38.2 innings.
Jul 5 2016Teheran will miss his next start Wednesday against the Phillies, Kevin McAlpin for 680 The Fan reports. He's hopeful to make his next start this weekend against the White Sox.Teheran is headed back to Atlanta to get a thigh infection looked at. The hope is that Teheran will just miss one start and return to pitch against the White Sox this weekend. There has been talk of Teheran potentially being a trade target for teams heading into the deadline, so it's important that he's fully healthy before the Braves send him back to the mound. Tyrell Jenkins will start in his place.
Jul 1 2016Teheran (3-8) allowed five runs on 11 hits while striking out six over 6.2 innings, but received no decision Friday against the Marlins. After allowing a two-run homer in the first inning, Teheran settled down until giving up three more runs in the seventh inning. However, the Braves were able to score a run in the ninth inning to take him off the hook for a potential loss. This was the first time he's allowed more than three runs in a start over his last 14 outings, and he now has a 2.72 ERA along with a 0.93 WHIP on the season. He'll make his next start Wednesday at the Phillies.
Jun 19 2016Teheran (3-7) was dominant in a shutout win over the Mets on Sunday, allowing just a leadoff single to Michael Conforto in the third inning while striking out seven to come within one batter of a perfect game.He controlled the strike zone all day long, throwing 15 first-pitch strikes and 82 of his 120 pitches overall for strikes. Teheran has completely turned his season around after a rough April, throwing quality starts in seven of 10 outings in May and June and bringing his ERA down to 2.66 after Sunday's shutout. He'll get a rematch with the Mets in his next start at home Saturday.
Jun 14 2016Teheran (2-7) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk and struck out eight in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.Teheran had the Reds number for most of the night, as he induced 19 swinging strikes in 104 pitches, but Jay Bruce touched him up for a three-run home run in the first inning that put the game out of reach for Atlanta's putrid lineup. He still owns a crisp 2.93 ERA, but unfortunately, he can't rely on support from his team, and the result is a brutal record reminiscent of Shelby Miller's inability to pick up wins in a career year for a similarly awful Braves squad in 2015.
Jun 8 2016Teheran (2-6) turned in a season-high eight innings Wednesday against San Diego, striking out eight while allowing just two runs on five hits and a walk en route to a 4-2 win.Wil Myers was the only Padre who could do any damage against him, slugging a pair of solo homers. It's too bad for Teheran that the Braves are so godawful, as he's bounced back impressively to his 2014 form this season in the wake of last year's struggles, but has only two wins to show for it. He's slashed his walk rate impressively while elevating his K/9 to a career-high 8.45, which has been a revelation for his previously embattled fantasy owners. That said, there are reasons to temper your enthusiasm -- Teheran has an unsustainably high 82.9 percent strand rate bolstered by an unsustainable low .228 BABIP, and both his FIP and xFIP are more than a full point higher than that impressive 2.85 ERA. Meanwhile, his average fastball velocity is more than a full mile per hour lower than it was last year. If you can sell the name and the ratios for a profitable return, now's the time.
Jun 3 2016Teheran (1-6) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks during 5.2 innings in Friday's loss against the Dodgers. He struck out seven. The home runs killed Teheran as he allowed three in just 5.2 innings, and he's permitted only x over x innings through the rest of the year. Teheran's 2.92 ERA suggests he's been a very good pitcher, but wins will be hard to get for him considering the lack of talent in the Braves lineup. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Padres.
Jun 3 2016Teheran (foot) has been confirmed as Friday's starter against the Dodgers. The 25-year-old labored through 5.1 innings his last time out (113 pitches), and Teheran revealed afterward that a foot blister affected his mechanics. It's uncertain if he's still dealing with any discomfort, but there has been nothing from the team or its local beat writers to suggest Teheran will be limited in any significant way.
May 31 2016Teheran struggled with a blister on his right foot that impacted his start Sunday and he'll receive treatment before his next start Friday. "Hopefully we get it right before my next start," Teheran told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution."I don't want to get it before my next start and then keep doing what I was doing [Sunday]."Teheran gave up three runs in 5.1 innings to take the loss and Teheran said trying to protect his foot got his mechanics off track. He'll be treated for the injury the next few days and is expected to make his next start Friday, but watch his progress.
May 29 2016Teheran suffered his fifth loss of the season Sunday versus the Marlins, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks across just 5.1 innings. He struck out three.Teheran had allowed one or no runs in each of his last six starts entering Sunday, but he allowed a two-run homer in the sixth inning that put his team behind before his removal in the sixth inning. He also walked three batters after not issuing a free pass in his previous two starts, and will look to bounce back Friday at the Dodgers.
May 24 2016Teheran allowed only one run on three hits and struck out 12 in seven innings against Milwaukee on Tuesday. The 12 punchouts were a season high for the Colombian hurler, but it wasn't enough to lead his team to a win. Despite Atlanta's struggles, Teheran has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball during the past month with an 0.80 ERA over the past five starts. He'll look to extend this recent run of success on his next start against the Marlins on Sunday.
May 13 2016Teheran (0-4) pitched well enough to win, allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings but lost against to the Royals 5-1 on Friday. The right-hander hasn't allowed more than one run in four straight outings, yet he is still searching for his first victory. The Royals scored an unearned run in the first and then added an earned run in the next frame, and that was all they needed. Atlanta is scoring an average of two runs per game with Teheran on the hill, which is the third-lowest run support for a starter in the league. Hopefully he can get some more run support in his next start Wednesday against the Pirates.
May 2 2016Teheran (0-3) put together his best start of the season Sunday, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out nine, but came away with a no-decision in an extra-inning win over the Cubs. After a rough start to his campaign Teheran has turned things around, posting a 1.40 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB over his last 19.1 innings and three starts. Unfortunately the woeful Braves' offense and bullpen haven't been able to give him enough support to earn a victory despite that strong stretch on the mound. His next start will come Friday, at home against the Diamondbacks.
Apr 30 2016Teheran was scheduled to start Saturday's matchup against the Cubs, but the game has been rained out. Teheran's start will be pushed back to Sunday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.Teheran will simply be pushed back a day, while the Braves are yet to announce who will take the hill for Monday's series-opener against the Mets. Last time out, Teheran allowed six hits and one earned run, to go with eight strikeouts, in 7.0 innings against the Red Sox.
Apr 25 2016Teheran (0-3) was a tough-luck loser Monday, allowing just one run in seven innings against the Red Sox. He allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out eight.Teheran is starting to put it together after a slow start to the season, allowing just three runs over his last two starts. The righty pitched much better after the All-Star break than he did before in 2015, which could be a sign of things to come this season. Teheran will look to continue to lower his 4.60 ERA in his next start this Saturday against the Cubs.
Apr 20 2016Teheran allowed two runs over 5.1 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Dodgers. He struck out three without a walk while allowing six hits.Although not amazing, this outing certainly represents some progress for Teheran after he got touched up for 11 runs in his last two outings. Walks and long balls have been his bugaboo this year, and he was able to avoid both in this one. However, he was pulled after just 75 pitches, likely because of the illness that got his start pushed back to Wednesday in the first place. He'll look to go deeper in his next start, Monday against Boston.
Apr 20 2016Teheran (illness) has been confirmed as Wednesday's starter against the Dodgers, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Teheran was slated to get the start Tuesday, but a fever that developed Monday evening caused the Braves to push his start back by one day. He will be taking the hill Wednesday against Ross Stripling and the Dodgers in the second game of their series. Teheran has allowed 10 earned runs in his last two starts and he's been susceptible to giving up the long ball this season. Fortunately, the Dodgers rank in the bottom five in all of baseball in that category with just eight combined home runs on the year.
Apr 20 2016Teheran is feeling better (illness) and is projected to start Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The right-hander missed his scheduled start Tuesday because of a fever. He was still congested, but no longer had a temperature and played catch before Tuesday's game. Teheran will be searching for his first victory of the season Wednesday. He allowed six runs on six hits in seven innings versus Washington in his last outing.
Apr 19 2016Teheran had Tuesday's scheduled start pushed back due to illness, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.Teheran developed a fever Monday night which led to the Braves moving his start back. He should be considered day-to-day for now and could have Wednesday's start pushed back if he isn't fully healthy yet.
Apr 19 2016Teheran's scheduled start Tuesday has been pushed back to Wednesday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.Teheran was originally expected to toe the rubber Tuesday, but he'll switch spots with Williams Perez. The reason behind the late change remains unclear -- though the fact that Teheran is still scheduled to go Wednesday indicates there's nothing wrong with the pitcher -- but he'll draw the same matchup he was initially slated to face in the Dodgers.
Apr 14 2016Teheran (0-2) was tagged for six runs on six hits over seven innings in Thursday's loss to Washington. He struck out six and walked one. After putting too many men on base in his first two starts of the year, Teheran mostly limited the baserunners in this one, but was punished harshly when he did put them on because he had the misfortune to load the bases for Bryce Harper, who promptly hit the ball out of the park. That was one of two homers the righty allowed in this one, making four total in his first three starts. Once one of the game's most promising young pitchers, Teheran's become overly vulnerable to walks and homers, meaning fantasy owners should pick their spots with him.
Apr 4 2016Teheran looked strong in his Opening Day start, allowing two runs in six innings of work in a no-decision.Teheran was in line for the win before Jason Grilli blew the save in the ninth. After a down year in 2015, Teheran is off to a better start in 2016. He next takes the hill against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Mar 28 2016Teheran was named the Opening Day starter Monday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports. This comes as no surprise, as Teheran is easily the top arm in the Braves arsenal, especially with Shelby Miller out of the fold. He'll be on the bump against the division-rival Nationals in his first assignment of the season.
Mar 15 2016Teheran tossed four scoreless innings in his second appearance of the spring Monday afternoon against the Rays.According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Teheran faced just two batters more than the minimum, while his fastball sat in the 92-93 mph range and at topped out at 94 (according to the stadium radar gun). Teheran who needed just 35 pitches to record the 12 outs Monday, told reporters after the outing that he's concentrating on becoming more effective against lefties after surrendering an .893 OPS against them in 2015.
Oct 2 2015Teheran (11-8) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out six in Friday's win over St. Louis.Teheran failed to deliver on the promise of his 2013 and 2014 seasons in 2015, but closed out the season strong with five quality starts in his six September outings, notching a 1.62 ERA and 1.18 WHIP along the way. The most obvious barrier between Teheran and consist success is control, Friday being just the second time in seven starts that he did not walk multiple batters. Just a dozen qualifying pitchers have a BB/9 ratio worse than Teheran's 3.27 this season
Sep 26 2015Teheran (10-8) surrendered six hits, two earned runs and four walks in six innings in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Marlins.Teheran was blown up in an Aug. 30 start against the Yankees, giving up eight earned runs over 4.1 innings. Since then, the young right-hander has posted five consecutive quality starts, although he only has a 1-1 record over that span to show for it. Teheran's control continues to plague him-- Saturday's start was the third one in September in which he has surrendered four walks--but he has posted a sparkling 1.91 ERA over his five appearances this month. The 24-year-old will look to close the season on a positive note in his final trip to the mound later in the coming week.
Sep 20 2015Teheran registered one of the season's more impressive no-decisions in Sunday's win over the Phillies, going 8.1 innings while allowing one runs and tossing eight strikeouts.Teheran was pulled after allowing the game-tying run reach second base in the ninth inning, then had to watch as Peter Moylan let the Phillies even things up. A win would have been nice, but his ERA was at least been brought down to 4.20, its lowest point since May.
Sep 15 2015Teheran gave up two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven in 5.2 innings Tuesday against the Blue Jays. While allowing just two runs against the potent Blue Jays lineup is a notable feat for any starting pitcher, Teheran was not at all efficient, as he needed 113 pitches to record 17 outs. Still just 24-years-old, the young righty will be very tricky to evaluate heading into drafts next year. He outperformed the fielding-independent stats over the previous two seasons, and this year a spike in walks and home runs coupled with a lesser defense behind him has led to easily Teheran's worst year since 2012. At least he will face one of the few teams that can match the Braves' offensive ineptness in his next start Sunday against the Phillies.
Sep 9 2015Teheran (10-7) stifled the Phillies on Wednesday, giving up one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked two. That's consecutive one-run outings for Teheran, and this one was well sharper than the last, in which he had to navigate around nine baserunners in six innings. Teheran's inconsistent control and bat-missing ability make him a risky fantasy roll, as he's been blown up quite a few times this season.
Sep 4 2015Teheran allowed one run on five hits, walking four and striking out four over six innings, but came away with a no-decision as the Braves fell to the Nationals 5-2 in 10 innings Friday night. He has been haunted by home runs and walks all season and tonight was no exception. He served up a first inning home run to Bryce Harper, and then walked four while needing 114 pitches (just 65 for strikes) to cover six innings. He has a very live arm, but he will continue to be volatile until he can consistently command the zone.
Aug 30 2015Teheran was battered for eight runs on nine hits and three walks in just 4.1 innings against the Yankees on Sunday. He struck out four. The 24-year-old had allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts heading into Sunday, but he ran into a buzzsaw in a Yankees team that scored 38 runs in the three-game series. Teheran will look to bounce back from this shellacking in Friday's start against the Nationals.
Aug 24 2015Teheran allowed three runs on four hits and a walk over 7.1 innings in his ninth win Monday against Colorado. He struck out five.Homeritis continues to plague Teheran, as he allowed two home runs and has now given up 21 on the season. He now has a 1.2 HR/9, his worst since coming up full time in 2013. Teheran was excellent aside from the two mistakes and lowered his ERA to 4.29, but his value is limited as long as his pitches keep flying out of the yard this often.
Aug 19 2015Teheran struck out seven and walked one while holding the Padres to one run on four hits over six innings in a no-decision Wednesday. He's had plenty of issues pitching on the road this season, but Teheran was sharp Wednesday after a bumpy first inning. A pair of home starts are on the schedule for next week, beginning with a matchup against the Rockies on Monday before an August 30 turn against the Yankees.
Aug 14 2015Teheran logged a solid start Friday night, allowing one run on three hits, walking two and striking out seven over six innings of a 3-2 win against Arizona.Teheran (8-6, 4.44 ERA) has pitched much better of late, turning in six quality starts in his last eight outings. While he has been better, he still often suffers from inefficiency as he needed 102 pitches (65 for strikes) to cover the six innings in this one. He has a live arm, and when he can hit his spots, he can be effective, but that has been a game-to-game challenge this season.
Aug 7 2015Teheran registered a no-decision in Friday's victory over the Marlins, striking out three and surrendering three runs on six hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.Teheran blanked Miami for the first six innings before giving up three runs in the seventh. Still, he managed to collect his fifth quality start in his last seven appearances. While not quite roster material for most mixed leagues, Teheran has improved on what previously ailed him - walks and homers. He has not given up a homer in seven of his last nine starters and has walked just one batter in his last two appearances.
Aug 7 2015Teheran (7-6) registered a no-decision in Friday's victory over the Marlins, striking out three and surrendering three runs on six hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.Teheran blanked Miami for the first six innings before giving up three runs in the seventh. Still, he managed to collect his fifth quality start in his last seven appearances. While not quite roster material for most mixed leagues, Teheran has improved on what previously ailed him - walks and homers. He has not given up a homer in seven of his last nine starters and has walked just one batter in his last two appearances.
Aug 2 2015Teheran earned his seventh win of the season Sunday against the Phillies, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven strong innings. It was a nice bounce back performance from the 24-year-old, who allowed just two extra-base hits and didn't walk a batter for just the third time this season. Teheran has struggled to string together quality starts dating back to early June, and he will look to do so in Friday's matchup with the Marlins.
Jul 28 2015Teheran suffered his sixth loss of the season after giving up two home runs, five hits, five earned runs, and four walks during his four-inning outing against the Orioles on Tuesday.Teheran managed to strike out four during his short time on the mound but that pales in comparison to his previous appearance where he struck out a career-high 11 against the Dodgers. Things could be looking better on the horizon, however, as he's scheduled to pitch this weekend against the Phillies, a team that's currently in the MLB's bottom four in both runs scored and home runs.
Jul 22 2015Teheran matched his career-high with 11 strikeouts in a losing effort Wednesday against the Dodgers. He was cruising early on, striking out the side in the first inning, and racking up seven strikeouts over the first three frames. Since June 21, Teheran has shaved more than a half-run from his season ERA, but he surprisingly remains among the National League leaders in walks (45). Teheran will match up with the Orioles on the road Tuesday in his next scheduled start.
Jul 17 2015Teheran allowed two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out five over 4.2 innings, and came away with a no-decision in the Braves' 4-2 win over the Cubs on Friday night. He has a very good arm, but his ugly 4.53 ERA is underscored by his tendency to lose command of the strike zone. He needed 90 pitches (just 54 for strikes) to record just 14 outs, and he departed too early to even qualify for a win. The Braves were hoping Teheran would take a step forward this season, but it hasn't happened even though he does occasionally flash considerable potential.
Jul 8 2015Teheran went seven innings against the Brewers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out eight. He did not factor in the decision in the Braves' 6-5 loss. Both hits against Teheran left the yard, home runs No. 15 and 16 allowed by the right-hander this season (108.2 innings). He gave up 22 homers in 221 innings a year ago. Still, it was another quality start for Teheran, his second in a row and third in his last four outings. While it's been a disappointing first three months for the 23-year-old, this recent stretch has provided reason for optimism heading into the second half.
Jul 3 2015Teheran allowed one run (unearned) on seven hits, walking three and striking out four over seven innings of a 2-1 win against Philadelphia on Friday night.Teheran (6.4, 4.60 ERA) has struggled for much of this season, and while the Phillies anemic offense helped him, he didn't make it look especially easy. He needed 110 pitches (71 for strikes) to cover the seven innings, and wiggled out of jams throughout the night. The solid peripherals were welcome, but he is still a risky play against better offenses.
Jun 28 2015Teheran got roughed up Saturday, allowing six runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings, striking out five. It's the second time in his last three starts, and third in his last seven, that Teheran has surrendered six or more runs. There's been no outward sign that he's hurt, but his numbers have fallen off badly in pretty much every category this season. He'll try to begin righting the ship on Thursday, at home to the Nationals.
Jun 21 2015Teheran struck out five batters over seven scoreless innings in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Mets, improving his record to 5-3 on the season.Teheran surrendered just a single and two walks, needing only 78 pitches to make it through seven innings. He was removed in the bottom of the seventh for pinch-hitter Pedro Ciriaco, who came through with an RBI single to drive in the game's lone run. Teheran still has an unsightly 4.67 ERA for the season, having allowed three or more runs in each of his previous five outings. He'll try to carry Sunday's momentum into Saturday's scheduled outing in Pittsburgh.
Jun 16 2015Teheran gave up six runs on 13 hits and one walk while striking out three in 6.1 innings Tuesday against the Red Sox.Teheran had given up double-digit hits in three starts already this season, but the 13 he gave up Tuesday marked a season high. Boston's offense can be potent, but this was still the third time in his last eight starts that he has given up six or more runs. His velocity is in line with what he did in 2014, so there is reason to believe bad luck has been a big factor in Teheran's struggles, particularly on the home run ball.
Jun 11 2015Teheran gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks Thursday in an eventual 11-inning loss to the Padres. He struck out seven -- his second-highest total of the season. It's nice to see Teheran miss some bats, and he would have had a prettier final line if manager Fredi Gonzalez didn't leave him in long enough to load the bases with no one out in the eighth inning. Teheran's bad-luck-aided strand rate and HR/FB point to further improvements to come in his still-ugly 4.78 ERA, but he's not going to come close to last year's 2.89. His next start will come Tuesday against Boston.
May 31 2015Teheran delivered a quality start Sunday against the Giants, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over six innings. Curiously, he struck out just one batter for the second straight game. It's been an inconsistent start to season for the 24-year-old, as his ERA sits at 4.87 through 11 starts and he has earned just one win in his last five starts. Teheran has delivered a quality start in two of his last three outings, however, and will look to continue his recent success Saturday against the Pirates.
May 26 2015Teheran (4-2) matched his shortest outing of the year Tuesday, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, striking out just one over 4.1 innings.Teheran didn't have his best stuff Tuesday, as he allowed double-digit hits for the third time this year and surrendered a season-high eight earned runs. The poor outing brought his season ERA up a full run to 4.91, and the supposed ace now owns a shaky 1.56 WHIP on the year. He'll look to bounce back Sunday against Madison Bumgarner and the Giants.
May 21 2015Teheran pitched seven strong innings Thursday, striking out eight and giving up only one run on two hits and a walk in a win over the Brewers.Teheran was perfect in all seven of his innings but one. In the fourth inning, he walked Carlos Gomez and gave up a single to Gerardo Parra, then a sac fly to Ryan Braun for his only run of the evening. Thursday was by far Teheran's best outing of the season, and he'll look to keep it going in his next scheduled start Tuesday at the Dodgers.
May 9 2015Teheran got roughed up for six runs on 10 hits and three walks in five innings Saturday, striking out six.He got off the hook for the loss thanks to a late rally by the Braves, but poor control and command within the strike zone continue to plague Teheran. He now has a weak 4.74 ERA and 34:17 K:BB ratio in 38 innings on the season, and will look for a better result on Friday in Miami.
May 3 2015Teheran used his fastball more often than in his previous starts this season in the course of shutting out the Reds on Sunday. He allowed just three hits and two walks over six innings, striking out six.In previous starts, where Teheran had some poor results, his fastball usage was below 50 percent, but it was back up to 64 of 102 total pitches Sunday. "I was feeling good," Teheran said. "I was feeling my fastball coming out of my hand. All of my pitches were good. I was really focused on this game." It didn't hurt Teheran that the Braves jumped ahead in the first inning, allowing him to be more aggressive.
Apr 28 2015Teheran (2-1) gave up 10 hits in 5.2 innings against the Nationals on Tuesday, resulting in seven runs, three of them earned, but still earned a no-decision.Teheran is off to a very slow start to the season. Despite having a winning record, he is currently posting career-highs in FIP, WHIP, home runs per nine innings and walks per nine innings. His next chance to turn it around is Sunday against the Reds.
Apr 23 2015Teheran (2-1) was wild in Thursday's loss to the Mets, walking five batters to go with three hits and four runs in just 4.1 innings. He struck out five and threw 102 pitches. That's a whole heck of a lot of pitches for so short an outing, but Teheran was laboring all afternoon in this one. He's now turned in back-to-back ugly games after starting the season with a pair of wins. Things don't necessarily get easier from here, as he draws the Nationals next week, but the talented Teheran should find his stride soon enough.
Apr 17 2015Teheran came away with a no-decision after allowing five runs on seven hits, walking two, and striking out four in a game the Braves would eventually win 8-7 over Toronto on Friday night.Teheran (2-0) came in off of two sterling performances to start the season, but ran headlong into the booming Toronto bats at the Rogers Centre. He allowed four home runs, and left after tossing 94 pitches (just 54 for strikes). Just one of those nights, Teheran still appears ready to enjoy a strong 2015 season.

Teheran is scheduled to make his second start of Opening Week against the Mets on Saturday.
Mar 27 2015Teheran will start Opening Day for the Braves against the Marlins.Teheran will enter 2015 as the Braves' ace, so it should come as no surprise that he will receive the starting nod for Opening Day. He'll look to repeat or improve on a 2014 season in which he posted a 2.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 186 strikeouts over 221 innings.
Mar 21 2015Teheran pitched five innings in a minor league game Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He is the Braves' planned Opening Day starter.Teheran built his pitch count up above 70 in the outing, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said the right-hander was solid in his five innings of work. It's good to hear, especially after Teheran was knocked around in his first three spring outings, giving up nine runs (seven earned) on 13 hits and four walks with eight strikeouts over 8.1 frames. Last season, Teheran went 14-13 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 186:51 over 221 innings.
Sep 25 2014Teheran gave up two runs on six hits over five innings while striking out six and walking three in a winning effort against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. While Teheran needed 96 pitches to get 15 outs, he was much better than Jeff Locke on Wednesday, which was enough to push Teheran to his 14th victory of the season. Teheran's second full season with the Braves finishes with a slight drop in strikeout rate (from 22.0% to 21.0%), but a stable walk rate (5.8% BB%) and a lower WHIP (1.08) than his 2013 campaign thanks in part of a .227 batting average against. Sep 19 2014Teheran allowed two runs on seven hits, he did not walk a batter and struck out six over seven innings of a 5-0 loss to the Mets on Friday night. He was locked in a classic duel with the Mets' Zack Wheeler before making his one mistake, a two-run home run off the bat of Lucas Duda in the sixth inning. Teheran (13-13, 2.88 ERA) will attempt to end his 2014 season on a positive note when he faces the Pirates at home .
Sep 7 2014Teheran was tagged for eight hits and four earned runs in 5.1 innings against Miami on Sunday.Teheran breezed through the first four innings, but then ran into the trouble in the fifth and sixth frames before getting pulled for Luis Avilan. Sep 1 2014Teheran took the loss Monday, allowing five runs (two earned) in 6.2 innings against the Phillies.Teheran really got no help from his teammates, as the Braves surrendered three unearned runs and couldn't muster a single hit on the offensive side. Aug 21 2014Teheran tossed six scoreless innings at Cincinnati on Thursday to earn his 12th win of the season. The young righty hasn't been as dominant as he was earlier in the season, as he had posted a 4.97 ERA over his previous eight starts, a span of 50.2 innings. Even so, he's still a productive starter on a contending team, and should be started with confidence in most cases. He'll toe the rubber against the Mets in his next start.
Aug 17 2014Teheran picked up his 11th victory of the season Saturday night, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one during six innings versus the A's.Coming off of back-to-back lackluster outings, Teheran delivered a nice effort for the Braves on Saturday night. Aug 6 2014Teheran gave up six earned runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings Wednesday against the Mariners.Since the start of July, Teheran has a 4.47 ERA in seven starts, while averaging almost a strikeout per inning. He is a better pitcher than he's shown lately, but it's safe to say he's not the guy who had a 1.89 ERA on June 6, and his peripherals have finally caught up to him. A top-20 starting pitcher he may be, but he's not in that class of elite aces.
Jul 27 2014Teheran (10-6) reached double-digits in wins for the second time in his career Saturday, tossing six innings of nine-hit, three-run ball against the Padres. Jul 8 2014Teheran got lit up in a big way Tuesday, getting shelled for 11 hits and five earned runs in only 3.1 innings by the Mets. The loss drops his record to 8-6 on the year, with the 11 hits sticking out like a sore thumb as a career worst. Teheran's ERA still sits at a solid 2.57, and his 1.03 WHIP and 28:110 BB:K are both tremendous also, so owners should just chalk this implosion up to a simple anomaly for the newly-minted All-Star. Look for him to get back on track in his next start, scheduled against the Cubs on Sunday just before the league breaks for the upcoming All-Star festivities in the Twin Cities.
Jul 2 2014Teheran allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five over 7.0 innings Wednesday in a win over the Mets.Teheran, who improves to 8-5, has failed to go at least six innings only once all season. Jun 21 2014Teheran struck out a season-high 10 batters, but gave up three runs on seven hits over seven innings in a losing effort against Washington on Saturday night.Despite being on a different page than catcher Evan Gattis on several occasions, Teheran managed to hold things together enough to log a quality start. The second run of the game was a direct result of communication issues, as Teheran balked after shaking off Gattis several times, moving a runner into scoring position for Ryan Zimmerman. Teheran will face the Phillies on the road in his next scheduled start Friday.
Jun 6 2014Teheran picked up his sixth win on the year against the Diamondbacks on Friday as he gave two runs on five hits, while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. The Braves' young hurler has now lowered his ERA to an incredible 1.89 on the season. Feb 14 2014Teheran has signed an extension with the Braves through the 2019 season, with an option for 2020.If the exercise is optioned, the contract would buy out two of Teheran's free agent years. The Braves did not immediately release the value of the contract, but their desire to lock up the 23-year-old pitcher for the long haul seems like a prudent move given the immense upside he possesses and the significant step forward that Teheran took in his first full season with the Braves in 2013.

During the month, he went 3-1 with a 22:3 K:BB ratio in 24.1 innings, but his 4.44 ERA was not in line with the rest of the season. No matter, he set a Braves rookie record (since 1900) with 170 strikeouts and will soon face a Dodgers squad that posted a middle-of-the-pack 19.4 percent K-rate following the All-Star break.
Sep 24 2013Teheran's next start will come Sunday against the Phillies, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves will give Teheran a bit of added rest, as they've done throughout September, by pushing him back to start the regular-season finale against Philadelphia. Aug 6 2013Teheran (9-5) picked up the win over Washington on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings. The one run caused a bit of a kerfuffle, as Bryce Harper hit a third-inning homer off Teheran, who took exception to him admiring his handiwork and beaned him next time up. Aug 1 2013Teheran matched his career high with 11 strikeouts in Thursday's win over Colorado. He pitched five innings, allowing one run and five hits.Teheran was dominant at times, but a 37-pitch second inning didn't allow him to work too deep in the game. The young right-hander has been one of the best pitchers in the NL since April, posting a 2.45 ERA in his last 102.2 innings.
Jul 27 2013Teheran allowed just two hits and one walk, with six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings against the Cardinals on Saturday, but he did not factor into the decision in Atlanta's 2-0 win.Aside from one poor outing just before the All-Star break, Teheran has been absolutely stellar over the past month and a half, with six quality starts in his last eight turns. The 22-year-old is now sporting a 3.07 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP for the season, and it says a lot that the Braves ruled demoting Teheran from the rotation even before Paul Maholm (wrist) and Tim Hudson (ankle) went down.
Jul 22 2013Teheran did not record a decision Monday against the Mets as he pitched six innings and allowed one run, four hits and two walks to go along with six strikeouts.Teheran didn't get much run support Monday and was actually in line for the loss until the Braves rallied against the Mets bullpen. While he has been solid this season, he doesn't pitch particularly deep into games as he has pitched at least seven innings in only one of his last eight starts. He'll need to learn to pitch deeper into games to give himself a chance to earn more victories.
Jul 9 2013Teheran gave up four runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 7.1 innings Tuesday against the Marlins, picking up his seventh win of the season.Teheran came into play Tuesday with a 3.65 xFIP compared to a 3.23 ERA, so while he's been a little lucky, he still projects to remain a very useful fantasy pitcher the rest of the way. With Brandon Beachy (elbow) experiencing a couple setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Teheran has had a few extra starts to really solidify a role in the rotation. His final outing of the first half will be Sunday at home against the Reds.
Jul 4 2013Teheran tossed five innings of three-run ball Thursday to record a no-decision against Miami. He allowed six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.Teheran was impressive with seven strikeouts in just five innings, but the high pitch count he ran up prevented him from going deep into the game. After not striking out many batters early in the season, Teheran has fanned 53 in his last seven starts, a span of 44 innings.
Jun 28 2013Teheran tossed one of the best games of his young career, contributing six shutout innings in a 3-0 win over Arizona on Friday night. He allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out 10 in the masterpiece. He's now 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA, and while he needed 103 pitches (67 for strikes) to complete the six innings, he is beginning to perform up to the expectations set for him as Atlanta's top pitching prospect. The will almost certainly be some rough stretches ahead, but he has become a viable starter in most mixed league formats.
Jun 21 2013Teheran allowed two runs on eight hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out five over 6.1 innings, but was the tough-luck loser as Atlanta was shut out 2-0 by the Brewers on Friday night. It wasn't all that easy for Teheran who didn't walk anyone, but plunked two batters and needed 99 pitches (74 strikes) to cover the 6.1 innings. He was often in trouble early, but worked his way out of jams. That has to be considered a positive, but he still needs more consistency to take the next step.

Jun 16 2013After a rough last start, Teheran pitched six scoreless innings Sunday against San Francisco, while striking out eight.Teheran got back on track in a big way Sunday, as the spun six scoreless innings. His ERA fell to 3.36 and is making a solid case to remain in the rotation once Brandon Beachy returns.
Jun 10 2013Teheran faced the Padres on Monday and failed to record a quality start for the first time since April 18. He struck out three batters and gave up five runs on six hits over six inningsTeheran finally hit a bump in the road, but his performance this season remains impressive, as it's almost unheard of for a 22-year-old pitcher to post a 1.75 BB/9 mark. He'll hope to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday night against the Giants.
Jun 5 2013Teheran took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Pirates before allowing a two-out single to Brandon Inge. He struck out 11 batters and finished with one hit and two walks allowed over eight scoreless innings. It was a tremendous performance for Teheran, who was able to stay ahead of hitters and fan 11 batters on the day, a staff-high for the Braves this season. He now owns a 20:3 K:BB over his last two starts, and Wednesday's outing marked his sixth consecutive quality start. Atlanta's decision on what to do when Brandon Beachy (elbow) is ready is becoming an increasingly difficult one, but in the meantime, Teheran will make his case on the field. His next start comes Monday in San Diego.
May 26 2013Teheran gave up just one earned run on five hits over 6.2 innings against the Mets on Sunday, but was saddled with a no decision as he was out-dueled by Shaun Marcum. The trend of Teheran's ERA dropping every time he takes the mound continued, as it now sits at a modest 3.67. He's given up just six earned runs in the month of May (four starts) and is quietly becoming very reliable for Atlanta. He'll next toe the rubber Friday against the Nationals.
May 20 2013Teheran was excellent Monday in a win against the Twins as he pitched 8.1 innings and allowed one run, five hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts.Teheran was really sharp Monday and has now recorded three straight quality starts. After allowing at least four runs in each of his first three starts this season, he has been able to lower his ERA to 3.99 with his recent run of success. While he could record a solid win total if he continues to string together quality starts, he's not the biggest strikeout pitcher as he only has 30 strikeouts in 49.2 innings this season.
May 15 2013Teheran was rather impressive Tuesday, yielding two runs on seven hits and no walks, while recording three strikeouts in six innings, but took the loss anyway at Arizona.Of all things, Teheran's earned runs were preceded by an infield double, the result of fielding miscues by both Teheran and first baseman Freddie Freeman that allowed the ball to trickle into right field. The next batter looped a single to center, ringing up the two runs and eventually Teheran's first defeat of the season. Still, he has posted quality starts in three of his past four outings, which he'll attempt to continue early next week versus Minnesota.
May 10 2013Teheran picked up his second win of the season with seven innings of three-run ball against the Giants on Thursday. He allowed seven hits and recorded three strikeouts while not issuing a walk. The 22-year-old right-hander is coming around after a rough start to the season, as he's posted a 2.33 ERA with just one walk over his last three starts (19.1 innings). Teheran does appear to be adjusting, though the youngster will need to keep pitching well to keep his rotation spot upon the eventual return of Brandon Beachy (elbow).
May 5 2013Teheran, whose start Saturday was skipped due to a rainout, will be available out of the Braves' bullpen for a couple days and make his next start Thursday in San Francisco, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Teheran's first full-time rotation gig has been up-and-down, as he's recorded a 5.08 ERA, 1.659 WHIP, and 20:8 K:BB ratio in 28.1 innings (five starts).
May 4 2013Saturday's game against the Mets, which Teheran was scheduled to start, has been postponed, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports.Teheran could be pushed back to Sunday, or the Braves may just skip his turn. Stay tuned for further updates.
May 4 2013Teheran will not start Sunday's game against the Mets, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports.Teheran was scheduled to start Saturday, but the game was postponed and now it looks like his turn in the rotation will be skipped. Not exactly a bad idea, given that he's the only Atlanta starter who hasn't pitched well thus far.
Apr 29 2013Teheran did not record a decision Monday against the Nationals as he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs, 10 hits and one walk to go along with five strikeouts.Considering how many base runners he allowed Monday, the results could have been much worse for Teheran. His WHIP stands at 1.66 for the season and he's going to need to learn how to pitch deeper into games if he's going to take advantage of pitching behind a potent Braves' offense.
Apr 24 2013Teheran muffled the rollicking Rockies on Tuesday, surrendering a single run on eight hits and no walks, while tallying three strikeouts over seven innings, during the Braves' second victory of the day.Teheran took the bull by the horns in the back end of Tuesday's doubleheader, forcing eight groundouts and seven flyouts in an evening in which four Colorado batters produced multi-hit performances. Consequently, he locked down his first win (and quality start) of the season, harkening back to his dominate spring training. His next nod arrives Monday against Washington, who racked up four runs in six innings on him in early April.
Apr 18 2013Teheran lasted just five innings Thursday, allowing four runs and seven hits to record a no-decision. He walked three, struck out four and gave up a pair of homers. After a dominate spring, Teheran has struggled in three starts, posting a 7.31 ERA and 1.75 WHIP without any wins. The home run appears to be a problem at the moment for Teheran, who has been taken deep five times in 16 innings.
Apr 6 2013Teheran allowed five runs over five innings and did not factor in the decision Saturday against the Cubs.He gave up eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Not a strong debut for Teheran, who struggled particularly in the fifth inning (he allowed three runs) before exiting. Fortunately for Teheran the combination of the Braves' strong offense and the Cubs' bullpen imploding he escaped the game with a no decision and a Braves' win.
Apr 3 2013The Braves announced Wednesday that Teheran will make his first start of the season Saturday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Teheran was available out of the bullpen for the first couple games, but he will prepare to make his season debut on Saturday against the Cubs. Teheran figures to remain in the rotation moving forward, but he will get an extra day of rest before his second start with the Braves off next Thursday.
Mar 25 2013Teheran will be available out of the bullpen the first few games of the season, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. It sounds like Teheran will be available for long relief in the event one of the Braves' starters gets knocked around and chased out of a game early. If the right-hander is not called upon, he should start the fifth or sixth game of the season.
Mar 24 2013Teheran did not allow a hit and struck out 10 batters while walking three over six shutout innings against the Astros on Saturday.Teheran kept the Astros hitters off balance by successfully mixing it up with his four different pitches, and he's now sporting a 1.04 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 26.0 innings this spring. Barring injury in his final start before the season begins, Teheran should make his 2013 debut either April 6 or 7 against the Cubs.
Mar 18 2013Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sunday that Teheran will be the fifth starter "barring something crazy" over the final two weeks of camp, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.Teheran put together another strong performance Sunday, and he now has a 1.35 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP with 25 strikeouts over 20.0 innings this spring. The 22-year-old attributed much of his success to improved command of his sinker and curveball. He said he "tried to throw [his] fastball past everybody" last season.
Mar 13 2013Teheran did not allow a hit and struck out five while walking two over five scoreless innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday in his fourth start of the spring. While the Cardinals' lineup was lacking many of their top hitters (including Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday, David Freese, and Yadier Molina), it was yet another impressive start for Teheran. The right-hander has seemingly put last season's struggles out of his mind, as he's now allowed just two runs while striking out 18 batters over 14 innings this spring. The final spot in the rotation is his to lose.
Mar 8 2013Teheran allowed one run on three hits and a walk and struck out five over four innings against the Tigers on Thursday in his third start of spring. The 22-year-old right-hander retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced Thursday and further distanced himself from Sean Gilmartin in the competition for the fifth spot in the rotation. Teheran's stock in the fantasy world is likely on the rise as he's now struck out 12 batters while allowing two runs over nine innings this spring.
Mar 2 2013Teheran allowed one hit (a solo homer to Bryce Harper) and struck out five over three innings Friday against the Nationals in his second start of the spring.Aside from the first-inning homer to Harper, Teheran was strong Friday. The right-hander further cemented himself as the favorite to take the fifth spot in the rotation, but he'll need to continue to fend off Sean Gilmartin.
Feb 26 2013Teheran did not allow a hit over two innings against the Pirates in his first start of the spring Sunday. He struck out two but walked one and hit Gaby Sanchez with a pitch.Sean Gilmartin, who is competing with Teheran for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring, was also impressive Sunday, throwing two scoreless frames while not allowing a walk. Teheran is still the favorite to win the job, but his upside doesn't seem to be what it once was after the struggles of last season. Both Teheran and Gilmartin are scheduled to toss three innings Friday against the Astros.
Dec 30 2012Teheran and Randall Delgado are expected to compete for the Braves fifth starter role in spring training, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.It should come as little surprise that Teheran, soon to be 22, will get a chance to earn a spot in the rotation. He was recently named the Braves top prospect once again by Baseball America after being their number five prospect in the MLB each of the past two years. Teheran has had brief stints in the majors before, but he also struggled in Triple-A last season with a 5.08 ERA and lower-than-normal 6.7 K/9. Still, it would be hard for the Braves to send him back to Triple-A for a third consecutive year.
Sep 3 2012Teheran was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. In 26 starts this season at Gwinnett, Teheran posted a 7-9 record, 5.08 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 97:43 K:BB ratio over 131 innings. He will likely serve as a long reliever in the Braves' bullpen the rest of 2012.
Apr 2 2012Teheran has been sent down to Triple-A, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran was awful this spring, allowing 17 runs in 16.1 innings. Chances are he'll have his chances at the majors later this season, though, and if he can repeat last seasons 2.55 ERA in Triple-A he should be back to the majors relatively soon.
Mar 28 2012Teheran (shoulder) will make his next start Sunday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran tested out his shoulder in the bullpen yesterday and was cleared for his next start. He'll need a strong finish to the spring to nab a spot in the Braves rotation.
Mar 26 2012Teheran had stiffness around his shoulder earlier in the week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. He is scheduled to start Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran has given up 13 runs in 13 innings this spring and is seen behind Randall Delgado (who has also struggled) for the temporary fifth starter role until Tim Hudson returns from a back injury. Teheran's ailment, even if minor, likely sets him back in the competition even further.
Mar 19 2012Teheran appears to be falling behind Randall Delgado in the battle for the No. 5 starter spot to begin the season, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's allowed nine homers in 13 innings this spring, which Teheran attributes to poorly locating his fastball. Ultimately, neither pitcher has been sharp in Grapefruit League play and while Teheran has the higher ceiling, the Braves seem to be leaning toward giving the more-polished Delgado the first crack at temporarily replacing Tim Hudson every fifth day.
Mar 11 2012Teheran gave up one run in three innings with three strikeouts and one walk in Friday's split squad spring loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran had given up six home runs in his first spring start, so this was a decent bounceback performance. Teheran and Randall Delgado haven't been overly impressive in their first two spring outings, but it's too early to handicap the battle for the fifth starter job at this point.
Mar 4 2012Teheran gave up six home runs in two innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran gave up more home runs Sunday than he gave up in 144.2 innings in Triple-A last season (5). The 21-year-old went 15-3 last year in Triple-A, and his ERA was a skinny 2.55. He's one of baseball's top pitching prospects, but his performance Sunday will raise some eyebrows.
Sep 27 2011Teheran pitched three innings of one-run ball in Tuesday's relief appearance. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a major improvement over his last relief outing when he gave up four runs in just 2.2 innings.
Sep 16 2011As expected, Teheran is now coming out of the pen, at least for the time being, but it didn't go well Friday night as he allowed four runs (earned) on four hits, walking two and striking out two over 2.2 innings in a 12-2 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite a 5.40 ERA this year, Teheran remains a compelling consideration as one of the better pitching prospects in the game, but he still has some work to do in proving he is ready for a regular turn in the rotation next year.
Sep 12 2011Randall Delgado is likely to stay in the rotation for another start while Teheran moves to the bullpen, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran may get a spot start or two when the Braves re-work their rotation ahead of the playoffs, but for now Delgado will get a regular turn. It may be a few days before Teheran is ready to throw out of the bullpen.
Sep 8 2011Teheran picked up his first career win with 5.1 solid innings in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader. The young right-hander allowed one run and five hits with three strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Either Teheran or Randall Delgado will stick in the rotation in the short term with the other moving to the bullpen.
Sep 6 2011Either Teheran or Randall Delgado will move to the bullpen after Teheran makes a start Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's still possible both pitchers get starts in September as the Braves adjust the rotation for the playoffs, but it looks like only one of the two will remain in the rotation in the short term.
Sep 2 2011Teheran will be recalled from Triple-A and start the second game of the Braves' doubleheader Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran could get several starts in September as the Braves expand their rotation to give starters rest ahead of the playoffs. The top prospect is having a strong season at Triple-A with a 2.55 ERA and 122:48 K:BB ratio in 144.2 innings.
May 20 2011Teheran could recalled from Triple-A when the Braves need a fifth starter again May 31, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Beachy isn't expected to return from an oblique injury until at least mid June, so it looks like Teheran could still get a few more starts in the majors after a trip to Triple-A. Of course, the Braves could always bring up Mike Minor from Triple-A as the fifth starter instead.
May 19 2011Teheran went four innings on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one in a no-decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will be sent down to the minors for the second time after making a spot start for the Braves, making him only interesting in keeper leagues.
May 17 2011Teheran will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett and start Wednesday against Arizona, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves may need a fifth starter only once before May 31, so Teheran may get sent down after this start. However, there's a chance he's in the rotation into June with Beachy potentially missing a month with an oblique injury.
May 16 2011Teheran will likely replace the injured Brandon Beachy (oblique) in the rotation beginning Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mike Minor just threw 90 pitches in his minor league start Sunday, and the other possibility is Rodrigo Lopez, who is out of options. If the team were to bring up Lopez, they would risk losing him on waivers if they then tried to send him back down. We may not know for sure if Teheran is the choice until the Braves scratch him from his next scheduled minor league start, set for Tuesday.
May 15 2011Teheran is a candidate to replace Brandon Beachy (oblique) in the Braves' rotation, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He could slot in to start Wednesday if needed, as it would be one extra day of rest for the 20-year-old if the Braves decide he's the replacement. Teheran, Mike Minor and Rodrigo Lopez are the three options as the team's disposal, while the latter seems to be the least likely choice given that the Braves would have to begin paying him a $1 million salary. Beachy is expected to miss at least three weeks, leaving as many as four starts for his replacement, but the Braves could also opt to send Wednesday's starter back to the minors and use a four-man rotation until May 31.
May 9 2011Teheran was sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, with infielder Diory Hernandez taking his place on roster, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teheran's start on Saturday was only of the spot variety.
May 8 2011Teheran allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits over 4.2 innings in his first career start Saturday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He also walked two while striking out one. It wasn't a bad first start for the young righty, but Ryan Howard made him pay for a poor pitch in the fourth inning with a long home run to center field. Teheran's stay in the majors will likely be brief since the starting rotation is healthy and he was really only needed because of a doubleheader earlier in the week.
May 6 2011Teheran will be called up for his big league debut against the Phillies on Saturday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Braves having a doubleheader earlier in the week, Teheran's stay will likely be a brief one since their rotation is healthy at the present time. Mike Minor pitched Thursday for Triple-A Gwinnett, so he's unavailable for this assignment. The 20-year-old Teheran hasn't pitched since April 30, but he's 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 25:8 K:BB in five starts this season.
Mar 2 2011Teheran suffered a minor back spasm late last week, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Teheran suffered the injury four or five days ago, but the good news is he has resumed throwing and hopes to pitch in a spring training game Friday. The Braves would not take any chances with one of their top prospects, so consider Teheran healthy barring any further setbacks.
