Jun 29 2024Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has functioned mainly in a utility role off the bench lately, but he's had a couple of big games anyway. He's gone 7-for-17 over his last 10 contests despite recording a plate appearance in just seven of those games. Over 43 plate appearances this year, he's batting .425 with seven RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and four doubles, but the light-hitting infielder has yet to hit a home run. Iglesias' best path to playing time is at second base, where he's on the short side of a platoon with Jeff McNeil, who is hitting just .221 on the year and .211 in June.
Jun 21 2024Iglesias went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Friday's 11-1 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was active early, singling and scoring a run in the second inning, hitting an RBI single in the third and adding a two-run single in the fourth. He later added another base hit in the seventh. Iglesias has gone an impressive 14-for-32 with six RBI and five runs scored in his return to the majors while primarily starting at second base against left-handed pitchers.
Jun 12 2024Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had started at second base in five of the past six games while the Mets faced a lefty-heavy schedule, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday even though Miami is bringing southpaw Braxton Garrett to the hill. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and remains the Mets' top option at the keystone, but Iglesias should continue to play ahead of McNeil against most lefties.
Jun 4 2024Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting the start at second base and batting eighth with left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound for the Nats, Iglesias produced his first three-hit performance since August 2022 -- and that game was in Coors Field. The 34-year-old was added to the roster to provide infield depth, but he's begun his Mets tenure by going 5-for-11 with a stolen base. With Jeff McNeil stumbling to a career-worst .227/.296/.320 slash line and 103.9 mph max exit velocity so far, the door could be open for Iglesias to see more playing time than expected at the keystone, and potentially even take over the starting job.
May 31 2024Iglesias is batting eighth and playing second base Friday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After spending the last year and change in the minor leagues, Iglesias got called up from Triple-A Syracuse and will give Jeff McNeil a breather Friday. Iglesias figures to operate as a reserve infielder with the Mets and is capable of playing second, shortstop and third base.
Mar 23 2024Iglesias was informed Saturday morning that he won't be making the Mets' Opening Day roster, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in December. That included an invitation to spring training, and he posted a respectable .294/.333/.471 line with one home run and three RBI over 34 at-bats. It wasn't enough for Iglesias to crack the team's Opening Day roster, but the 34-year-old should provide some veteran infield depth to a team in need of such services in 2024.
Dec 5 2023The Mets signed Iglesias to a minor-league contract Tuesday with an invitation to major-league spring training. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias did not appear in a big-league game in 2023, though he posted an impressive .317/.356/.537 batting line across 135 plate appearances with the Triple-A affiliate of the Padres. He'll turn 34 years old next month but can offer organizational infield depth for New York in 2024.
Jun 19 2023Iglesias opted out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marks the third minor-league contract Iglesias has opted out of this season -- once with the Marlins and now twice with the Padres. The 33-year-old shortstop holds a nice .314/.354/.542 slash line through 130 plate appearances in Triple-A. He will presumably now search for an organization that can offer a more direct path to the majors.
May 31 2023San Diego re-signed Iglesias on Tuesday to a minor-league contract. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two doubles in his return to the Triple-A El Paso lineup. The infielder triggered an out clause in his minor-league pact with the Padres on Friday, but after testing the waters he's back with the San Diego organization for the foreseeable future. Iglesias will have to be added to the 40-man roster if the Padres decide he's worthy of a call-up to the 26-man active group.
May 26 2023Iglesias opted out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias latched on with the Padres after opting out of his minor-league pact with the Marlins in late April and now it appears he's on the move again. The 33-year-old shortstop has batted .276/.330/.414 with one home run across 21 games at the Triple-A level this season. It's not clear whether Iglesias might have a major-league contract in the works somewhere or if he's just decided a promotion to San Diego isn't happening.
Mar 26 2023Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Sunday that Iglesias won't make the Opening Day roster but will stay in the organization, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Marlins signed Iglesias earlier this month on a minor-league deal and afforded him the opportunity to compete for a reserve role with the big club, but another veteran non-roster invitee in Yuli Gurriel appears set to beat him out for the bench gig. Iglesias received only 13 plate appearances over five Grapefruit League games, hitting just .167. Iglesias will presumably head to Triple-A Jacksonville rather than immediately opting out of his minor-league deal to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Mar 9 2023Iglesias signed a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training with the Marlins on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias spent the 2022 season with Colorado and managed a solid .292/.328/.380 line across 467 appearances. He won't have the benefit of Coors Field as his home park with Miami, though he should have a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster as insurance at shortstop behind Joey Wendle.
Oct 5 2022Iglesias isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday and will head to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Elehuris Montero is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth.
Oct 3 2022Iglesias isn't starting Monday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has gone 1-for-12 with a strikeout over three games since returning from the injured list, and he'll head to the bench for a second consecutive matchup. Brendan Rodgers is serving as the designated hitter and batting third.
Oct 2 2022Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is 1-for-12 in three games since being activated from the injured list Wednesday, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. C.J. Cron will serve as the designated hitter while Michael Toglia starts at first base.
Sep 29 2022Iglesias isn't starting Thursday against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias returned from the injured list for Wednesday's game against San Francisco and went 0-for-4. He'll head to the bench a day later while Elehuris Montero serves as the designated hitter and bats seventh.
Sep 28 2022Iglesias (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Giants, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old has been sidelined over three weeks by the thumb injury but will rejoin the Rockies for the final week of the season. Prospect Ezequiel Tovar has taken over the starting role at shortstop, but Iglesias should still find regular playing time down the stretch in the middle infield and at designated hitter, especially with Charlie Blackmon (knee) now done for the year.
Sep 20 2022Iglesias (thumb) is feeling better and getting closer to making a return, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bud Black still has yet to announce a timetable for Iglesias, but the news of progress is still good for a Rockies team that has been plagued with injuries to its best players late in the season. Alan Trejo continues to mash in his absence, slashing .308/.372/.538 with seven RBI since arriving to Colorado earlier this month.
Sep 13 2022Iglesias (thumb) does not have a timeline to return, according to MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is first eligible to return from the injured list Thursday, and the swelling on his thumb continues to reduce. However, he is still doing work in the training room, so it doesn't sound likely that he'll return after a minimum stint. Alan Trejo has taken over as the primary shortstop in Iglesias' absence and has gone 8-for-25 with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored across eight games since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Sep 6 2022Iglesias was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuedsay retroactive to Sept. 5 with a right hand contusion. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias hasn't played since he injured his hand while swinging during the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds. Alan Trejo and Garrett Hampson will likely compete for starting reps at shortstop over the next couple of weeks while Iglesias is absent.
Sep 5 2022Rockies manager Bud Black said prior to Monday's game against the Brewers that Iglesias will require an MRI for his sore left hand, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias doesn't look like he'll be available for the series opener after he exited the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds with the hand injury. Alan Trejo will pick up the start at shortstop Monday, though he could face competition for reps at the position from Garrett Hampson if Iglesias' hand injury is serious enough to force a trip to the 10-day injured list.
Sep 4 2022Iglesias (hand) is out of the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Iglesias will head to the bench for Game 2 after he exited in the fourth inning of the Rockies' 8-4 win in Game 1 due to a hand injury. Alan Trejo, who came off the bench to replace Iglesias in Game 1, draws the start at shortstop for the final game of the day.
Aug 21 2022Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will take a seat for the third Sunday in a row, opening up shortstop for Garrett Hampson. While starting in each of the past five games, Iglesias went 5-for-19 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs.
Aug 14 2022Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went hitless over the last two games after going 27-for-65 (.415) over his previous 17 contests, so manager Bud Black decided it was time for a day off. Garrett Hampson will start at shortstop in Iglesias' place.
Aug 9 2022Iglesias went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 16-5 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias received a breather Sunday, but it didn't slow him down at the plate. The infielder's three-hit effort Tuesday was already his third in eight games in August, and he's batted .412 (14-for-34) this month. The 31-year-old still isn't much of a power threat with just three home runs this season, but he's maintained a .316/.358/.417 slash line with 41 RBI, 42 runs scored, two stolen bases and 26 doubles through 94 contests as the Rockies' starting shortstop.
Aug 7 2022Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started the past 12 games and will receive Sunday off after producing a .391/.451/.522 slash line with six doubles, six RBI and eight runs during that span. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop Sunday in Arizona.
Aug 5 2022Iglesias went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias did the majority of his damage on an RBI double in the fifth inning, and he was also able to come around to score in the same frame. He piled up hits across Colorado's five-game set at San Diego, going 9-for-21 with three RBI and four runs scored. Iglesias has quietly maintained an impressive .770 OPS across 358 plate appearances on the season.
Aug 3 2022Iglesias went 5-for-8 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias collected multiple hits in each game and now has two or more knocks in six of his last 10 starts. In that span, he's hit .429 with eight runs scored and three RBI. Iglesias has maintained an excellent .313 batting average across 340 plate appearances for the season, which has also allowed him to tally 39 runs scored and 37 RBI.
Jul 27 2022Iglesias (foot) is starting Wednesday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias missed Tuesday's matchup due to a foot injury, but he's starting at shortstop and batting sixth a day later. The 32-year-old has hit .317 with a homer, two doubles, 11 RBI and six runs over his last 11 games.
Jul 26 2022Iglesias (foot) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias left Monday's game with a bruised left foot after fouling a pitch off himself, and he'll miss at least one contest. However, the 32-year-old is expected to be back in action Wednesday. The Rockies have yet to post their full lineup for Tuesday, but Garrett Hampson and Brendan Rodgers are the likely candidates to work at shortstop.
Jul 25 2022Iglesias left Monday's game against the Brewers with a bruised left foot, Steve Megargee of the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias fouled a ball off the top of his foot during Monday's contest and failed to come out for the bottom half of the frame after the at-bat. His X-rays came back negative and he'll be considered day-to-day moving forward.
Jul 16 2022Iglesias (neck) is starting Saturday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias exited Friday's game against the Pirates with neck stiffness but is starting at shortstop and batting seventh a day later. Over his last five games, he's gone 7-for-19 with a homer, two doubles, 10 RBI and three runs.
Jul 15 2022Iglesias was removed from Friday's game against the Pirates with neck stiffness, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 0-for-2 before being replaced in the field for the top of the fifth inning. It's unclear if the 32-year-old will be able to retake the field this weekend against Pittsburgh, or if he'll require at least the All-Star break to get healthy.
Jul 13 2022Iglesias went 3-for-5 with a home run and a career-high six RBI in Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had a three-run home run, a two-run single and an RBI on a groundout in the contest. The 32-year-old shortstop continues to hit well in July -- this was his fifth multi-hit game in his last 11 contests, and he's batting .349 (15-for-43) in that span. For the season, he's up to a .301/.340/.405 slash line with three homers, 31 RBI, 28 runs scored and two stolen bases through 285 plate appearances. Iglesias may sit out for rest occasionally, but he's a near-everyday presence in the lineup.
Jul 11 2022Iglesias (head) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was held out of the last two games after experiencing dizziness following a collision in Friday's contest versus Arizona. He attempted to spark a comeback for the Rockies on Monday, knocking an RBI double in the eighth inning. Through nine games in July, the shortstop is 10-for-34 (.294). He's posted a .296/.337/.392 slash line with two home runs, 24 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases and 19 doubles through 71 contests this year.
Jul 10 2022Iglesias (head) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is apparently still experiencing symptoms of dizziness after he was involved in a collision in the field in Friday's 6-5 win. Garrett Hampson will log a second straight start at shortstop while Iglesias sits out the series finale in Arizona.
Jul 9 2022Iglesias (head) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was involved in a collision Friday against Arizona and said he was feeling dizzy afterward. He's still feeling lightheaded and has a bruise on his leg Saturday, so he'll be out of the lineup for at least one game. Garrett Hampson is taking his place at shortstop and batting ninth.
Jul 8 2022Iglesias exited Friday's game against the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a head injury, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was productive early in Friday's matchup, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run. However, he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the sixth inning due to his head injury. The severity of the issue isn't yet clear, but Garrett Hampson should see increased at-bats if Iglesias is forced to miss time.
Jul 4 2022Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias opened the scoring in the fifth inning with a solo shot, his second homer of the year. Both of his long balls have come in his last seven contests. The shortstop has made up for a lack of power with consistent contact skills, posting a .293/.337/.384 slash line with 22 RBI, 24 runs scored, two stolen bases and 16 doubles through 66 games.
Jun 28 2022Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Monday in a 4-0 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias tagged Dodgers starter Tyler Anderson for a 432-foot, two-run homer in the sixth inning to provide the final two runs of the contest. It was the first long ball of the campaign for the shortstop after he slugged nine homers over 483 at-bats last season. Despite the lack of power in his first year with the Rockies, Iglesias has been a solid offensive contributor with a .298/.346/.381 slash line, 15 doubles, 20 RBI and two steals through 60 games.
Jun 26 2022Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has a .631 OPS over his past 10 games and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Garrett Hampson will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Rockies.
Jun 22 2022Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI on Tuesday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias came to the plate with the bases loaded in the first inning and legged out an infield single to drive in his 18th run of the season. He recorded his 15th double of the campaign two frames later but was ultimately stranded. Iglesias has at least one hit in 13 of his 16 June starts, though he has only three RBI and six runs scored to show for it.
Jun 19 2022Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Garrett Hampson (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19-related injured list and will enter the lineup in place of Iglesias, who appears to be getting a routine day off. Iglesias started in each of the Rockies' last six games and went 6-for-23 (.261 average) with two runs and an RBI.
Jun 11 2022Iglesias will sit for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader in San Diego, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started the afternoon game and went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop for the nightcap.
Jun 9 2022Iglesias isn't starting Thursday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will get a day off after he went 1-for-8 with a run and a strikeout over the last two games. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop and bat seventh.
Jun 5 2022Iglesias is not in Sunday's lineup against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is hitting .325 with zero home runs and one stolen base over his last 10 games. Garrett Hampson draws the start at shortstop, hitting eighth.
May 30 2022Iglesias is not starting in Monday's matchup with the Marlins, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will get a breather after starting eight straight games, extending his hit streak to 10 contests over that stretch while notching two doubles, three RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Garrett Hampson is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Monday.
May 27 2022Iglesias went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Thursday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias drove in his 13th run of the season in the second inning on an infield single. He also reached base on an error in the ninth frame and proceeded to steal second base. It was his second swipe of the season, both of which have come in his last three games. Iglesias has maintained a strong .307/.362/.378 line across 138 plate appearances on the season and has recorded at least one hit in 15 of his last 19 starts.
May 25 2022Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base Tuesday against Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias collected a two-out double in the second inning, his first extra-base hit in his last nine starts. He followed that up with an infield single in the fourth frame and proceeded to steal his first base of the campaign. Iglesias has maintained a strong .311 batting average across 130 plate appearances this season, but his production has been realtively otherwise empty as he's recorded only 12 RBI and 13 runs scored.
May 21 2022Iglesias will sit for the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 1-for-2 in the afternoon game and drove in the Rockies' lone run. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop in the evening contest.
May 18 2022Iglesias is not starting Wednesday versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will get a breather Wednesday after starting the first two games of the series, going 1-for-7 in those contests. Garrett Hampson will get the start at shortstop and bat eighth in the series finale.
May 15 2022Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started the past eight games and will receive a day off after posting a .355/.394/.452 slash line during that stretch. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop in Sunday's series finale.
May 10 2022Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI on Monday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias first contributed with a single in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Yonathan Daza single. He then doubled in the final frame to continue a Colorado rally, driving in Elias Diaz. Iglesias is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, during which he's collected four RBI and four runs scored. He has also quietly maintained a .329/.382/.427 line across 89 plate appearances on the campaign.
May 5 2022Iglesias isn't starting Thursday against the Nationals, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has had consistent playing time for the Rockies this year, but he'll get a breather after going 1-for-12 with a double, three RBI and two runs over the last four games. Garrett Hampson will start at shortstop and bat eighth.
Apr 20 2022Iglesias isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started the last three games and went 2-for-10 with a double, a run and a walk. Alan Trejo will start at shortstop and bat eighth Wednesday.
Apr 17 2022Iglesias (hamstring) will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Cubs, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias returns to the starting nine after a right hamstring issue had kept him out of action for the previous two games. Alan Trejo, who had picked up consecutive starts while Iglesias was sidelined, will return to the bench for the series finale.
Apr 16 2022Iglesias has been out of the lineup due to a hamstring injury, but he will not be placed on the injured list, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has been held out of Colorado's lineup both Friday and Saturday with the issue. He should be considered day-to-day for the time being, with Alan Trejo the most likely candidate to gain playing time at shortstop in Iglesias' absence.
Apr 15 2022Iglesias isn't starting Friday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 5-for-12 with a double, a run, an RBI and a strikeout while starting in each of the last three games. Alan Trejo will start at shortstop and bat ninth Friday.
Apr 10 2022Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Dodgers, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started at shortstop the first two games of the season and will head to the bench after going 1-for-6 with an RBI and two strikeouts. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop and bat ninth for Colorado.
Apr 3 2022Iglesias went 2-for-6 with three RBI in Sunday's 13-4 spring win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had gone hitless with a strikeout in 11 at-bats across his last four Cactus League appearances, but he generated some run production in Sunday's comfortable victory. Although the 32-year-old has hit just .222 with a double, three RBI and two runs across nine games this spring, he's in line to serve as the Rockies' primary shortstop to begin the 2022 campaign.
Mar 12 2022Iglesias signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Rockies on Saturday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brendan Rodgers looked like the shortstop of the future in Colorado following Trevor Story's departure, but he can slide to second base to make room for Iglesias, as Garrett Hampson hasn't exactly earned an everyday job at the keystone. Assuming Iglesias does indeed start nearly every game at shortstop, the move catapults him to fantasy relevancy, as anyone who plays regularly at Coors Field is automatically interesting. The veteran shortstop typically doesn't offer much more than batting average, as he's hit .291 over the last three years but has added a combined 23 homers and 11 steals over that stretch, but all his numbers should get a boost with the move to the league's best hitters' park.
Oct 6 2021Iglesias was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester by the Red Sox on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias isn't eligible to join Boston's postseason roster since he joined the organization after Sept. 1 deadline, so it's only a procedural move to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency in the offseason after hitting .271/.309/.391 with nine homers, 48 RBI and 65 runs in 137 games between the Angels and Red Sox in 2021. Yairo Munoz (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.
Oct 5 2021Iglesias is not on the Red Sox's wild-card roster, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias played a significant role for Boston in September, starting 17 of the final 19 games of the month. He hit a strong .356/.406/.508 in 64 trips to the plate as a member of the Red Sox, but he isn't eligible to play for the team in the playoffs as he wasn't with the organization back on Sept. 1. Jonathan Arauz will serve as a utility infielder in his place.
Sep 29 2021Iglesias will start at second base and bat ninth Wednesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with the Red Sox recently getting Christian Arroyo back from the injured list, Iglesias appears to have usurped him as the team's top utility man. Though he lacks a direct path to a lineup spot against right-handed pitching, Iglesias will nonetheless stick in starting nine for the 13th time in 14 games. Since signing with the Red Sox on Sept. 6, Iglesias is slashing .347/.407/.531 with a home run, a triple, four doubles, seven RBI and six runs in 18 contests.
Sep 22 2021Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a walk, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias managed to push his hit streak to nine games Wednesday with an RBI triple that staked Boston to a 9-1 lead in the third inning. The second RBI came on a groundout that plated Hunter Renfroe. Since making the move to the Red Sox from the Angels, the silky smooth infielder has hit .378 with six extra-base hits.
Sep 15 2021Iglesias will start at second base and bat ninth Wednesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will stay in the lineup for the fourth straight game, making his third consecutive start at the keystone. Even so, Iglesias can't be counted on to play regularly at second base, especially after Xander Bogaerts recently returned from the COVID-19 injured list. Enrique Hernandez will typically pick up most of the work at the keystone, but he'll shift to center field Wednesday with the lefty-hitting Alex Verdugo taking a seat versus Mariners southpaw Marco Gonzales.
Sep 8 2021Iglesias will start at shortstop and bat eighth Wednesday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After coming off the bench in his first game with the Red Sox on Monday, Iglesias started at shortstop in Tuesday's 12-7 loss and went 1-for-4. He'll stick in the lineup for the second straight game and looks like he'll serve as Red Sox's top option at the position until Xander Bogaerts (illness) is ready to return from the COVID-19 injured list.
Sep 6 2021Iglesias signed a major-league deal with the Red Sox on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias hit a BABIP-fueled .373/.400/.556 for the Orioles last season, but he's tumbled right back to his career norms this season, hitting just .259/.295/.375. The Angels saw little reason to give him regular at-bats down the stretch and released him Friday, but he didn't have to wait long to find a new team. The Red Sox are in desperate need of competent players at the moment due to their COVID-19 outbreak, so Iglesias should see time at shortstop in the immediate future, though he'll likely fill a bench role once Xander Bogaerts (illness) is ready to return.
Sep 3 2021Iglesias was released by the Angels on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias lost out on playing time to Jack Mayfield recently, and he'll now be let go by the Halos. The 31-year-old appeared in 114 games in 2021 and slashed .259/.295/.375 with eight homers, 57 runs, 41 RBI and five stolen bases. Mayfield will continue to serve as the primary shortstop, while Iglesias will seek out other opportunities to close out the regular season.
Sep 1 2021Iglesias isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will be out of the lineup for a fourth straight game. Jack Mayfield will remain at shortstop while Phil Gosselin starts at third base.
Aug 31 2021Iglesias is not in the starting lineup for the third straight game Tuesday against the Yankees, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Iglesias has hit a solid .259/.295/.375 with eight homers on the campaign, the Angels appear to be favoring Jack Mayfield at shortstop with the club out of playoff contention.
Aug 30 2021Iglesias will sit Monday against the Yankees, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias finds himself on the bench for the second straight game, which could be a sign that the Angels don't want to give too much playing time to a 31-year-old on an expiring contract down the stretch. Jack Mayfield starts at shortstop in his absence.
Aug 28 2021Iglesias will sit Saturday against the Padres, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. Jack Mayfield will again start at shortstop in his absence.
Aug 26 2021Iglesias isn't starting Thursday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will get a breather after he went 3-for-8 with two doubles, five runs and two RBI across his last two games. Jack Mayfield will start at shortstop while Phil Gosselin takes over at third base.
Aug 15 2021Iglesias is not in the lineup Sunday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is 2-for-15 over his past four games and will take a seat Sunday. Jack Mayfield will start at shortstop while Phil Gosselin covers the hot corner.
Aug 11 2021Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Daniel Guerrero of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias snapped a five-game hit streak when he went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's nightcap, and he'll get a rare day off Wednesday. Jack Mayfield will start at shortstop and bat ninth.
Aug 7 2021Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in Friday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop put the Angels on the board with a fifth-inning homer off David Price, and he gave his team its first lead with a run-scoring double to plate inherited runner Jo Adell leading off the 10th. Iglesias hasn't matched the unsustainable .373 average he posted over 150 plate appearances with Baltimore last season, but he has proven to be a capable bat for the Angels with a .273/.301/.391 slash line, eight homers, 44 runs, 38 RBI and four stolen bases.
Jul 18 2021Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias contributed a double and a pair of singles, while nabbing his fourth stolen base of the season. It continued a terrific July for the 31-year-old shortstop, who is slashing .356/.408/.511 in 45 at-bats since the start of the month.
Jul 6 2021Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a walk, a steal and a run scored in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias singled in each of his first two at-bats and later walked, stole a bag and scored in the ninth to make it a 5-4 ballgame. The 31-year-old has four multi-hit performances over his last seven games and is slashing .274/.308/.395 with seven homers, 26 RBI, 35 runs scored, three steals and a 10:43 BB:K over 276 plate appearances this season.
Jul 3 2021Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 8-7 win over Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop's second-inning blast pulled the Angels even after a pair of Baltimore solo shots gave the Orioles an early lead. Iglesias has gone deep twice in his past three games, and he is slashing .500/.529/.938 with five RBI over his past four contests.
Jun 30 2021Iglesias went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop put the Angels on the board in the second inning, drilling a two-run shot to left field. The homer was his sixth of the campaign and pushed his RBI total to 24. After a three-game hitless stretch from June 23-26, Iglesias has gone 5-for-8 with three RBI over his past two games.
Jun 27 2021Iglesias is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will sit for the second time in four games as David Fletcher shifts to shortstop and Luis Rengifo takes over at the keystone.
Jun 17 2021Iglesias is not in Thursday's starting lineup against Detroit to receive a routine rest day, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will take a seat after starting 11 straight games. Luis Rengifo enters the lineup at second base, while David Fletcher will take over at shortstop.
Jun 14 2021Iglesias went 4-for-5 with a run scored in Monday's 8-5 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias ripped off four singles Monday, including one in the seventh inning where he came around to score. He's produced three multi-hit games over his last five appearances, improving his slash line to .280/.311/.400. The veteran infielder has scored 26 runs and knocked 14 extra-base hits this season.
Jun 9 2021Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias slammed a solo shot off Kris Bubic to lead off the fourth inning. He was one of four Angels to homer off Bubic in the first four innings. The 31-year-old has five homers this season, setting pace for double-digit long balls for only the second time in his career. He is slashing .266/.297/.384 in 185 plate appearances.
Jun 5 2021The Angels reinstated Iglesias (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list prior to Saturday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias initially suffered the hamstring injury May 25 but the Angels were hoping the shortstop could avoid a trip to the injured list. He ultimately did need to go on the IL, but his stint will end after the minimum 10 days. He'll bat fourth and play shortstop Saturday.
May 28 2021Iglesias was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Friday, retroactive to May 26. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had been held out of the lineup during the last three games due to his hamstring injury, but manager Joe Maddon was hopeful that the shortstop would be able to return by the end of the weekend. Iglesias will now have additional time to recover, but it's not yet clear whether he'll spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the injured list. David Fletcher will likely serve as the primary shortstop in Iglesias' absence, while Jose Rojas could see additional time at second base. Catcher Anthony Bemboom was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
May 27 2021Iglesias (hamstring) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a left hamstring cramp, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second straight contest. David Fletcher will shift to shortstop while Jose Rojas starts at second base.
May 26 2021Iglesias (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels have yet to reveal their lineup for the series finale, but David Fletcher will presumably get the nod at shortstop while Iglesias receives the day off to recover from a left hamstring cramp. Before leaving Tuesday's 11-5 win with the hamstring issue, Iglesias reached base in all three of his plate appearances, coming around to score twice and driving in a run on a double and two walks.
May 25 2021Iglesias was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a left hamstring cramp. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, an RBI and two runs before being replaced by a pinch runner during the fifth inning with the Angels leading 10-1. The team may have been illustrating caution with Iglesias in the midst of a blowout.
May 24 2021Iglesias went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias singled in the second, fourth and singled a run home to give the Angels their first lead of the game in the seventh. The 31-year-old is slashing .278/.305/.386 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 19 runs scored and two stolen bases.
May 22 2021Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-4 loss to Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went deep off James Kaprielian in the third inning Friday. The 31-year-old is not much of a power hitter, with 2019 being his only season with double-digit homers. However, he has two home runs in his last four games. He has come back down to earth after slashing .373/.400/.556 in the 2020 shortened season, but is still batting .272 with an OPS of .679 in 156 plate appearances.
May 20 2021Iglesias isn't starting the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 1-for-4 in Game 1 of the doubleheader. David Fletcher will shift to shortstop while Jose Rojas starts at second base in the second game.
May 19 2021Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had one of three home runs for the Angels on Tuesday and his was the final one of the evening as he knotted the game up at five in the seventh with a solo shot to left. It was the third home run of the year and the first since April 26 for him. Iglesias has only hit over ten homers once in his career, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much power from him, but he does have a good track record of making contact and getting on base. The 31-year-old is slashing .273/.299/.367 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored. His on-base percentage should improve with some more patience at the plate as his 2.1 percent walk rate is currently tied for the lowest mark in his major league career.
May 12 2021Iglesias (back) is starting Wednesday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had sat out the last three games due to back tightness, but he'll play shortstop and bat second Wednesday. In his last five appearances, Iglesias has gone 5-for-16 with a double, two RBI, a run and three strikeouts.
May 11 2021Iglesias (back) could play Wednesday at Houston and at the latest is expected to be available during the series at Boston this weekend, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old is sitting out the third straight game Tuesday with back tightness, but the Angels apparently aren't considered a trip to the injured list. David Fletcher should continue seeing time at shortstop until Iglesias is cleared to return.
May 10 2021Iglesias (back) isn't starting Monday against the Astros, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will miss a second straight game after he exited Saturday's contest due to back tightness. He's considered day-to-day. David Fletcher will start at shortstop in Monday's series opener.
May 9 2021Iglesias (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will get at least one day to recuperate after he was pulled midway through Saturday's 14-11 loss due to back tightness. David Fletcher will spell Iglesias at shortstop in the Freeway Series finale.
May 3 2021Iglesias finds himself on the bench for the first time this season Monday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is a good enough defender to remain in the lineup even when he's not doing much at the plate, though the Angels were likely hoping for something better than his .267/.282/.347 slash line when they acquired him in a trade in December. David Fletcher will slide to shortstop Monday, with Jose Rojas starting at second.
Apr 26 2021Iglesias went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and another run scored during Monday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias extended the Angels' lead by taking Hyeon-Jong Yang deep with a solo homer in the seventh inning. It was the second long ball of the season for the 31-year-old, who is batting .268/.286/.366 overall.
Apr 21 2021Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran shortstop connected on his first homer of the season in the ninth inning off Ian Kennedy. Iglesias has been a little more than just a defensive specialist to begin his tenure with the Angels, slashing .274/.297/.355 through 16 games with two steals, three RBI and nine runs.
Apr 19 2021Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 6-4 loss to Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias singled and pulled off a double steal with Albert Pujols before coming around to score in the seventh inning. He then singled again and made it to third with two outs in the ninth but was left stranded. The 31-year-old shortstop is hitting .273 with seven runs scored through 55 at-bats.
Apr 14 2021Iglesias will bat sixth and start at shortstop Wednesday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has started in all 12 of the Angels' games this season, but he'll be batting higher than seventh in the order for only the second time Wednesday. The Angels' growing injury list has contributed to Iglesias' move up the order, and the shortstop has rewarded the team with back-to-back two-hit games to begin the series with Kansas City.
Mar 15 2021Iglesias is slashing .300/.300/.700 with a home run and five RBI through 11 Cactus League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias came over from Baltimore in a December trade and was immediately tabbed as the Angels' new starter at shortstop. The 31-year-old has transitioned smoothly to his new club, swinging the bat well and showing off his defensive prowess this spring. He has hit primarily out of the ninth spot and is likely to stay in that position in the order when the regular season kicks off.
Dec 2 2020Iglesias was traded from the Orioles to the Angels on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Baltimore picked up the 30-year-old's $3.5 million club option for 2021 last month, but he's now being sent to Los Angeles for minor-league pitchers Garrett Stallings and Jean Pinto. Iglesias has always been known for his defense, but he broke out at the plate during the 2020 campaign with a .373/.400/.566 slash line and 17 doubles in 39 games. He's poised to take over as the Halos' starting shortstop after Andrelton Simmons became a free agent at the end of the season.
Nov 1 2020The Orioles picked up Iglesias' $3.5 million option for the 2021 season Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Most team options have been declined so far this offseason, but Iglesias had a promising first season with Baltimore and projects to be the team's starting shortstop in 2021. He hit .373 (.407 BABIP) with three home runs and an 11.3 percent strikeout rate in his age-30 season.
Sep 27 2020Iglesias is not in the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is 5-for-13 with two homers and three doubles in his last four games, but he'll take a seat for the season finale. Pat Valaika receives the start at shortstop Sunday for the O's.
Sep 25 2020Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 10-5 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop went yard for the second straight game, and all three of his homers this season have come in his last eight games. Iglesias' current .941 OPS would be over 200 points higher than his prior career best of .735, set back in 2013.
Sep 24 2020Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 13-1 rout of the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Out since Saturday due to a sore wrist, Iglesias got the start at DH in his return and seemed to be fit when he took Martin Perez deep in the fourth inning. While he won't get enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title, the 30-year-old has still put together a stunning .373/.401/.530 slash line through 37 games with two homers, 22 RBI and 14 runs.
Sep 23 2020Iglesias (wrist) remains on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias hasn't played since leaving Saturday's game against the Rays after a pitch struck him in the wrist. Ramon Urias will be the shortstop on this occasion.
Sep 22 2020Iglesias (wrist) isn't in Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even though the Orioles had a day off Monday, Iglesias will remain sidelined for the series opener against the Red Sox as he continues to deal with a left wrist bruise. Ramon Urias will start at shortstop in his absence.
Sep 20 2020Iglesias (wrist) is not in the lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias exited Saturday's contest after being hit by pitch on the left wrist, and he'll miss at least one game as a result of the bruise. X-rays came back negative, so the 30-year-old avoided a fracture. He'll have Monday's scheduled off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing more time. Pat Valaika receives the start at shortstop Sunday for the O's.
Sep 19 2020Iglesias was confirmed to have a bruised left wrist after X-rays came back negative Saturday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's good news the 30-year-old avoided a fracture, but he may not be in the lineup Sunday as manager Brandon Hyde indicated he expects the wrist to be pretty sore. Iglesias will be reevaluated Sunday and should be considered day-to-day.
Sep 18 2020Iglesias is out of the lineup Friday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias started one of the two games during Thursday's doubleheader and will receive the day off Friday. Andrew Velazquez will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the O's.
Sep 17 2020Iglesias isn't starting Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Rays, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias went 0-for-2 with a walk out of the DH spot in Game 1, and he'll receive the rest of the evening off. Pat Valaika gets the start in Iglesias' usual spot at shortstop.
Sep 16 2020Iglesias will receive precautionary X-rays on his shin, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old was hit by a pitch during the eighth inning and was lifted for a pinch runner, but the X-rays are apparently just the team playing it safe. Iglesias should be considered day-to-day, and even if it's a minor issue he could be limited during Thursday's doubleheader.
Sep 14 2020Iglesias went 4-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 14-1 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: During a 10-run third inning for Baltimore, Iglesias went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer and two runs scored. He raised his slash line to a terrific .370/.387/.504 with 14 extra-base hits and 19 RBI.
Sep 6 2020Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Andrew Velazquez will start at shortstop and bat ninth against right-hander Masahiro Tanaka. Iglesias spent time on the IL in August with a quadriceps injury, and manager Brandon Hyde said Iglesias' quad will need to be managed through the rest of the season, per Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com. Hyde said it's something that would have cost Iglesias "significant time" in a normal 162-game season.
Sep 4 2020Iglesias isn't starting Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will take a seat after going 1-for-4 in the matinee. Andrew Velazquez will take over at shortstop.
Aug 31 2020Iglesias went 2-for-5 with a single, double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias's single drove in Anthony Santander to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The shortstop later came through with a huge double to break the 2-2 tie in the 11th. Iglesias has his batting average up to a remarkable .405 on the season and should continue to hit in the middle of the Orioles' lineup.
Aug 27 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was sidelined with a sore left quadriceps, but he was able to return from the injured list after the minimum 10-day stay. He's starting as the designated hitter Thursday, batting third.
Aug 18 2020Iglesias was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sore left quadriceps Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias last played Saturday, so it's possible he could return as soon as next Wednesday, though the Orioles haven't given a specific timeline for his return. Andrew Velasquez starts at shortstop in his absence Tuesday.
Aug 17 2020Iglesias will sit for the second straight game due to lingering quadriceps soreness Monday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has missed time at various points this season with the issue but had since returned to start four straight contests before sitting both Sunday and Monday. It appears that the Orioles will continue to manage things day-by-day with their surprisingly hot shortstop, who's hitting .400/.414/.564 through his first 16 games. Andrew Velazquez will handle the position in his absence.
Aug 16 2020Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has started in the last four games and has recently battled a sore quadriceps, so he's likely just getting some needed maintenance in the series finale. Pat Valaika will fill in for Iglesias at shortstop.
Aug 15 2020Iglesias went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias got on base with a double in the first inning and scored on a Pedro Severino two-run double. In the eighth, Iglesias added an RBI single for his third hit of the game. The shortstop is slashing .400/.414/.564 with 10 RBI, four runs scored and nine doubles in 16 games.
Aug 13 2020Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a double, walk and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Iglesias dealing with a quadriceps issue earlier in the week, the shortstop got to rest his legs a bit and serve as the designated hitter in Thursday's win. He did well in the unfamiliar role, belting a two-run double off Vince Velasquez in the seventh inning. Iglesias will likely return to shortstop when Baltimore opens its series with the Nationals on Friday.
Aug 12 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) is starting at shortstop and hitting third Wednesday against the Phillies, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A sore quad has kept Iglesias out of the starting lineup for the past two games, though he has been cleared to return after serving as a pinch hitter during Tuesday's series opener. According to Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com, manager Brandon Hyde said the quad injury likely will need to be managed for the duration of the season. The 30-year-old is 15-for-38 with seven doubles and seven RBI through 12 games this season.
Aug 11 2020Iglesias is still dealing with a sore quad Tuesday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is on the bench for the second straight game Tuesday, and manager Brandon Hyde revealed prior to the game that he's still dealing with the effects of his previous quad injury. It's unclear when he'll return to the Orioles' starting nine.
Aug 9 2020Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pat Valaika checks in at shortstop in place of Iglesias, who will take a seat as the Orioles and Nationals wrap up their series with a game that starts at 12:35 p.m. ET. Iglesias had started the Orioles' previous five games, going 5-for-18 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored over that stretch.
Aug 7 2020Iglesias went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run in Friday's win against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had been fairly quiet over the past three games since returning from a quad injury, but he filled the stat sheet in Friday's 11-0 blowout. Although he recorded just one extra-base hit, he recorded timely hits to drive in a season-high three runs. He now has a 1.124 OPS with seven doubles and seven RBI over his first 10 games of the season.
Aug 5 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) will bat third as the designated hitter in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Marlins, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A sore quadriceps has kept Iglesias out of the lineup for a week, so it's no surprise to see that he won't be asked to play shortstop twice in one day. Whether or not he plays the field in the nightcap remains to be seen. Andrew Velazquez will cover the position in the afternoon game.
Aug 4 2020Iglesias (quariceps) may return to the lineup for Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Marlins, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old has been absent from the starting nine since last Wednesday due to quadriceps soreness, though he did made two appearances off the bench. Iglesias' availability will be determined by how he feels once he arrives to the ballpark Wednesday.
Aug 2 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old will be on the bench for the fourth straight contest as he continues to deal with quad soreness. Iglesias did make a pinch-hit appearance during Saturday's contest, so he appears to be nearing his return to the lineup. Andrew Velazquez receives the start at shortstop in the series finale.
Aug 1 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will sit for the third straight game due to quad soreness. Andrew Velazquez will again start at shortstop in his absence.
Jul 31 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias exited Wednesday's contest against the Yankees due to quadriceps soreness, and he'll miss his second straight game as a result. Andrew Velazquez will start at shortstop and bat ninth Friday for the Orioles.
Jul 30 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Yankees, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will sit for Thursday's series finale after tweaking his quad during Wednesday's game. The shortstop, who is 8-for-16 with four doubles and three RBI to start the season, should be considered day-to-day. Pat Valaika is starting in his place Thursday.
Jul 29 2020Iglesias was removed from Wednesday's loss against the Yankees due to some quad soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, but he was replaced at shortstop for the seventh inning after grounding out in the previous frame. Iglesias is off to a hot start in 2020 (8-for-16 with four doubles, two runs and three RBI), but he should now be considered day-to-day until more is known on the injury.
Jul 26 2020Iglesias went 4-for-5 with two doubles, one run and one RBI in Sunday's win against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias was limited by back soreness during camp, but he's gotten off to a strong start during the regular season, highlighted by his performance in Sunday's win. The shortstop has gone 7-for-13 with two RBI and two runs over the first three games of the year.
Jul 24 2020Iglesias (back) is starting at shortstop and batting third in Friday's season opener at Boston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder was limited by back soreness throughout summer training, but he's good to go for the start of the season. Iglesias had a .288/.318/.407 slash line with 11 home runs in 146 games for the Reds last season, and he'll begin 2020 as the O's everyday shortstop.
Jul 19 2020Iglesias (back) will play in both Monday and Tuesday's exhibition games in an effort to ramp up in advance of Opening Day, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He only took 8-to-10 at-bats in camp prior to his back acting up, and he did not make the trip for Sunday's exhibition game in Philadelphia. However, Kubatko makes it sound as though Iglesias is still likely to start at shortstop on Opening Day.
Jul 12 2020Iglesias (back) took live batting practice Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has been withheld from the Orioles' last two intrasquad games with back soreness, but his ability to take a round of BP suggests his health is trending in the right direction. So long as Iglesias is able to get some competitive at-bats in by next week, he should be ready to serve as the Orioles' everyday shortstop when the team opens its season July 24 versus the Red Sox.
Jul 9 2020Iglesias (back) is reportedly feeling much better Thursday, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias missed Wednesday's intrasquad scrimmage due to back soreness, but he's expected to test the issue out before potentially returning to action for Thursday's scrimmage. Either way, it doesn't sound like the issue will keep him sidelined much longer.
Jul 8 2020Iglesias will not play in Baltimore's intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday due to a sore back, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will remain sidelined for a second straight day as he continues to battle a back issue. The veteran infielder will continue to receive treatment, and the hope is that he'll be able to take some at-bats Thursday.
Mar 8 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) will start at shortstop and bat fifth Sunday in the Orioles' Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias had been withheld from spring games for the past four days while tending to a cramp in his right quadriceps muscle, but after having some time off to rest, he looks like he's good to go. The 30-year-old is expected to slot in as the Orioles' everyday shortstop to begin the season.
Mar 7 2020Iglesias (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Saturday's spring game against the Rays, according to MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias said Thursday that he hoped to rejoin the lineup Friday, but he did not see any action that day and will not start Saturday either. Iglesias could still return to action before the weekend ends, but with a team off day Monday, the Orioles could decide to hold him out at least until the day after that.
Mar 5 2020Iglesias (quadriceps) indicated that he could be ready to rejoin the lineup for Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. "Just got a little cramp in my right quad," Iglesias said. "I was probably dehydrated or whatever. Just normal spring training soreness." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias said that his removal from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Marlins was strictly precautionary, so he should be good to go after getting a couple days to rest up. The 30-year-old is expected to open the season as the Orioles' everyday shortstop.
Mar 4 2020Iglesias was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins with a quadriceps cramp, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles are just playing it safe with their projected Opening Day starting shortstop, who should be good to go after a day or two off. Andrew Velazquez will take Iglesias' spot in the field and bat second.
Jan 6 2020Iglesias signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Orioles on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal also contains a club option for a second season at the same price. The 30-year-old is a perfectly competent shortstop, but most of his value comes on the defensive end, limiting his fantasy appeal outside of deep leagues. He did manage to hit .288 last season with a career-high 11 homers, but he'd never managed more than six in any prior year, so there's a very good chance he goes back to being almost a complete zero in that category. He also managed just six steals, giving him minimal value outside of his solid batting average. In AL-only formats, however, his relatively uncontested path to playing time should at least make him an acceptable budget option.
Sep 29 2019Iglesias is not in Sunday's lineup against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Peraza will start at shortstop and lead off while Kyle Farmer gets the start at second base.
Sep 18 2019Iglesias (back) returns to the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A sore back had kept Iglesias out of the lineup for four straight games. He'll bat sixth and play shortstop Wednesday.
Sep 17 2019Iglesias (back) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has missed four of his club's last five contests due to back stiffness, and he still hasn't been given the green light to return to the starting lineup. With the Reds out of the playoff race, expect the team to exercise caution with its starting shortstop. Jose Peraza draws the start at shortstop and will bat eighth.
Sep 16 2019Iglesias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs due to lower-back stiffness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Nightengale, manager David Bell doesn't view Iglesias' injury as anything overly concerning, though the skipper acknowledged the issue was more significant than he originally thought. With Iglesias sitting for the fourth time in five days and top backup Freddy Galvis (knee) also on the bench, Jose Peraza will man shortstop in the series opener.
Sep 15 2019Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will head to the bench for the third time in the last four contests as he is 4-for-30 over his last nine games. Jose Peraza receives the starting nod at shortstop in his stead.
Sep 14 2019Iglesias is not in Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is hitting .195 with two home runs in 12 games this month and is hitless in 10 at-bats in his last three games. Freddy Galvis gets the start at shortstop and will hit sixth.
Sep 5 2019Iglesias went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in a 4-3 victory against the Phillies on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop has 11 homers, which may not sound like a lot, but that's almost double his previous career high in home runs. With one run Thursday, Iglesias also set a new high-water mark with 58 runs and is one RBI shy of doing the same in that category. He is batting .293 with 32 extra-base hits, 53 RBI and five steals in 450 at-bats this season.
Sep 4 2019Iglesias is not starting Wednesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has walked just once since the start of August but owns a strong .346/.355/.467 OPS nonetheless. Freddy Galvis gets the start at shortstop in his absence.
Aug 31 2019Iglesias is not starting Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Aug 19 2019Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs Sunday in the Reds' 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.

Jul 21 2018Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Saturday's win over the Red Sox.The shortstop put the offense on his back while batting eighth, roping a two-run double down the left-field line off Brian Johnson in the second and clearing the left-field fence off Tyler Thornburg with a runner on in the sixth. Iglesias only has left the yard three times this season and went 0-for-12 in his previous four games, but he broke out of the slide nicely. The 28-year-old has not wowed with his .269/.307/.385 seasonal slash, but he's already set his personal record with 12 stolen bases on the season, which -- despite him being caught five times -- makes him more useful in deeper mixed leagues than he's been in the recent past.
Jul 14 2018Iglesias (hand) is starting at shortstop Saturday against the Astros.Iglesias was held out of Friday's lineup after suffering a hand bruise Tuesday, but he'll be good to go for Saturday's tilt. Through 90 games this season, the 28-year-old is batting .272 with two homers, 34 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
Jul 13 2018Iglesias (hand) is not in the lineup against Houston on Friday.Iglesias will remain out of the starting nine after exiting Tuesday's contest with a bruised hand. In his place, Ronny Rodriguez will start at shortstop and bat seventh. Iglesias should be considered day-to-day for Saturday's affair.
Jul 13 2018Iglesias (hand) should be good to go for Saturday's matchup against Houston, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.Iglesias suffered a hand bruise after being struck by a pitch on his left hand Tuesday versus the Rays. Although he was held out of Friday's starting lineup, he'll be available to pinch hit if necessary.
Jul 11 2018Iglesias (hand) is out of the lineup against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias was forced to leave Tuesday's game after being struck by a pitch on his left hand. He was diagnosed with a bruised hand, and should be considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's series opener in Houston following a scheduled off day Thursday.
Jul 10 2018Iglesias left Tuesday's game against the Rays with a bruised left hand, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias was hit by a pitch on the left hand in the eighth inning Tuesday and is currently considered day-to-day. The severity of the issue is not known, but it wouldn't be surprising the see the 28-year-old held out of Wednesday's lineup with an off day to follow on Thursday.
Jul 10 2018Iglesias exited Tuesday's game against the Rays after being hit by a pitch in the left hand, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. The specifics and severity of the issue are unclear at this point, and Iglesias should be considered day-to-day for the time being. Jim Adduci entered the game at first base for the Tigers with Ronny Rodriguez sliding over to shortstop.
Jul 1 2018Iglesias went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's win over Toronto.Iglesias drove in a pair on an RBI single in the sixth inning, increasing Detroit's lead to six. He went 4-for-11 over the Tigers' three-game weekend series against the Blue Jays, and he's batting .273 with 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases through 81 games.
Jun 26 2018Iglesias is not starting Tuesday against Oakland, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.Iglesias has been doing well at the plate lately, hitting .366 with an .820 OPS over his last 12 games. Niko Goodrum will handle shortstop duties Tuesday.
Jun 20 2018Iglesias went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Reds. After recording two hits Tuesday, Iglesias kept his bat hot Wednesday afternoon. The 28-year-old shortstop is now hitting .407 over his past eight games, and while he doesn't offer a ton of pop, his career-high 12 steals have been a boon for fantasy owners.
Jun 19 2018Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a run scored and his 12th stolen base of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.Iglesias set a new career high in steals, surpassing the 11 he posted across 120 games in 2015. While the 28-year-old shortstop doesn't offer a ton of power, his speed has been a welcome sight for fantasy owners.
Jun 15 2018Iglesias is not in the lineup against the White Sox on Friday.Iglesias will receive a day off for just the second time this month as Dixon Machado and Niko Goodrum will man the middle infield positions for the series opener in Chicago. Over the course of 66 games this year, Iglesias is hitting .263 with a .709 OPS, 25 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
Jun 14 2018Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored Thursday against the Twins.Iglesias crossed home plate on JaCoby Jones' two-run homer in the seventh inning. In the fifth inning, he stolen his 11th base of the season, tying the season high from 2015 that he accumulated over 120 games. His more fervent pace for swiping bags keeps him relevant in deeper mixed fantasy leagues, though he's 11-for-14 (78.6 percent) on the year, so he could stand to be a bit more efficient. On a positive note, he's at least offering a bit more than a warm body for playing time this season and might reach 20 thefts by season's end.
Jun 12 2018Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Twins.Iglesias got Detroit on the board with a triple down the right field line in the fourth inning with a runner on first, then put the Tigers in front 2-1 when he came around to score on a sacrifice fly. The 28-year-old shortstop is still mainly known for his defense, though he is now batting .294 (10-for-34) over his last 10 games.
Jun 4 2018Iglesias is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees.Iglesias will get a breather for Game 2 of Monday's twin bill after going 1-for-4 with an RBI-double during the team's Game 1 loss. Niko Goodrum will slide over to shortstop in his stead, allowing Ronny Rodriguez to pick up a start at the keystone.
Jun 1 2018Iglesias (hip) is back in the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays.An awkward slide into home Wednesday resulted in right hip contusion, but apparently one day of rest was all Iglesias needed to allow the discomfort to subside. He will look to get off to a hot start to June after posting a very strong (by his standards) .283/.347/.413 slash line in May.
May 30 2018Iglesias was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels with a right hip contusion, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias apparently suffered the injury on an awkward slide home in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Pete Kozma subsequently replaced him at shortstop for the top of the seventh inning. The 28-year-old was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored prior to exiting the game. He should be considered day-to-day.
May 28 2018Iglesias went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored Monday in the win over the Angels.Iglesias added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to center field. He's had a modest month of May, as he's batting .272 with eight extra-base hits and nine RBI in 81 at-bats.
May 18 2018Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Mariners.Iglesias doubled in the fifth, but his eighth inning single, which deflected off the glove of Seattle shortstop Jean Segura, plated the go-ahead runs in Detroit's 3-2 victory. The 28-year-old has been good at the plate lately, as he's slashing .353/.436/.588 with two home runs and eight RBI over his last 10 games.
May 12 2018Iglesias is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the Game 1 victory but will hit the bench for the nightcap and a rare game off. Pete Kozma will take over at shortstop and bat eighth for the Tigers on Saturday night.
Apr 29 2018Iglesias will start at shortstop and serve as the Tigers' leadoff man Sunday against the Orioles, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias has hit exclusively eighth or ninth this season, but manager Ron Gardenhire will give the infielder a spin atop the lineup Sunday with normal leadoff man Leonys Martin receiving a day off for rest purposes. While Iglesias' .221/.261/.302 season line doesn't inspire much confidence in his ability to set the table, the 28-year-old is at least in the midst of his best offensive stretch of the young campaign. He has recorded hits in all but two of his last 13 starts, batting .333 with three stolen bases over that span.
Apr 18 2018Iglesias went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's win over the Orioles, giving him hits in three straight games.Iglesias is now 4-for-12 over his past three games, and while that line isn't too extraordinary, it's still a huge improvement over the 2-for-35 (.057) start he had prior to the hit streak. Iglesias is still primarily known for his good glove at short stop, but it's nice to get a little contribution from him at the plate.
Apr 10 2018Iglesias is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Cleveland. It's just the second day off this season for Iglesias. He's off to a terrible start at the plate, hitting .069/.182/.103 in 33 plate appearances, but his stellar glove should keep him in the lineup regularly even when he slumps. Niko Goodrum starts at shortstop in his place Tuesday.
Apr 2 2018Iglesias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Iglesias played all 18 innings in the Tigers' doubleheader loss to the Pirates on Sunday, going 0-for-7 across the two contests to drop his season batting line to .077/.143/.154. Manager Ron Gardenhire will thus give the struggling Iglesias a breather Monday, allowing Niko Goodrum to pick up a start at shortstop.
Mar 19 2018Iglesias will hit eighth in the Tigers' Grapefruit League lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles and appears likely to occupy that spot in the order when the season begins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Viewed as a candidate for the two hole after seeing most of his at-bats in that spot during spring training, Iglesias' assignment as the No. 8 hitter Monday is significant with manager Ron Gardenhire deploying all of the team's projected regulars in the lineup. It appears Gardenhire is comfortable using Jeimer Candelario as the No. 2 hitter in light of the solid on-base skills the third baseman has shown this spring, so Iglesias' base-stealing and run-scoring opportunities could be limited if the current lineup configuration holds for a good portion of the campaign. Even if Candelario falters early on in the season and Iglesias ends up settling higher in the order, the shortstop would still rank as a lower-end fantasy option at his position due to his lack of high-end speed or power.
Mar 11 2018Iglesias has primarily batted second this spring and could find himself there when the regular season begins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.Iglesias has a career .316 on-base percentage and was at just .288 last season, so he's perhaps not a great fit for the top of a lineup. But Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire is generally fairly traditional in his approach, valuing players who can bunt runners over and put the ball in play most at-bats in the No. 2 hole. Iglesias usually batted at the bottom of the order in 2017, but with Ian Kinsler now with the Angels, the top of Detroit's lineup has an opening. The 28-year-old doesn't offer a ton in fantasy, but he could be a moderate source of runs and steals if he spends most of his time hitting in front of Miguel Cabrera.
Jan 17 2018Iglesias signed a one-year contract with the Tigers on Wednesday, thus avoiding arbitration. The deal is worth a reported $6.275 million, according to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. Iglesias is set to reprise his role as the Tigers' starting shortstop in 2018 after appearing in 130 games for the club last season. Despite his regular playing time, not much should be expected from the glove-first shortstop from a fantasy standpoint, as he hit just .255/.288/.369 with six homers and seven stolen bases in 2017.
Dec 12 2017General manager Al Avila said he expects Iglesias to be the Tigers' starting shortstop in 2018, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. The Tigers were apparently shopping Iglesias around, though it appears the team didn't receive any noteworthy offers. That may change, but for now, Iglesias is poised to return as the team's starter in 2018. He's a glove-first shortstop who hit just .255/.288/.369 with six homers and seven stolen bases last season, so he can probably be left alone outside of deeper leagues.
Oct 1 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's matchup against the Twins. The Tigers are sitting a a few of there regular starters Sunday, and Iglesias is one of them. Dixon Machado is starting at shortstop and hitting ninth in place of Iglesias. Iglesias posted a .255 batting average and .657 OPS over 130 games this season.
Sep 29 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.Iglesias went just 1-for-13 over his last three games, so manager Brad Ausmus decided to hold him out Friday. Dixon Machado will get the start at shortstop in Iglesias' place.
Sep 17 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.Over the last four games Iglesias has picked up just one hit over 14 at bats (.071). He'll get the day off as the Tigers opt to start Dixon Machado at shortstop against a Chicago club that's starting Dylan Covey on the hill.
Sep 13 2017Iglesias (personal) is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.Iglesias has missed the past couple days waiting out Hurricane Irma with his family, but returns to the lineup for Wednesday's series finale, playing in short and batting in the nine spot. Since Aug. 22, Iglesias is hitting .447/.480/.702 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 14 games.
Sep 12 2017Iglesias is expected to rejoin the Tigers ahead of Wednesday's game against the Indians, MLive.com reports. While Iglesias was reinstated from the paternity list over the weekend, he stayed back in Florida with his wife and newborn to wait out Hurricane Irma. Now that the storm has passed and his family is safe, Iglesias will catch a flight to Cleveland in time for Wednesday's series finale. Once he returns, Iglesias should return to his post as the Tigers' primary shortstop.
Sep 11 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Monday against the Indians.Although he's been back from the paternity list since Saturday, Iglesias has yet to return to the starting lineup. Dixon Machado will draw another start at shortstop Monday evening and hit ninth while Iglesias remains on the bench.
Sep 10 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.Iglesias was reinstated from the paternity list Saturday but was not immediately inserted back into the starting lineup. Despite the fact that he's collected 12 hits in his last six starts, he'll again be withheld from the starting lineup Sunday. Dixon Machado will draw the start in his place, batting ninth.
Sep 9 2017Iglesias (paternity) was reinstated prior to Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.Iglesias is not in the starting nine for Saturday's game, but he will be available off the bench while Dixon Machado draws the assignment. Over his past six games, Iglesias is hitting .571/.591/.810 with one home run and four RBI.
Sep 6 2017Iglesias was put on paternity leave by the Tigers prior to Wednesday's game against the Royals, Chris McCosky of Detroit News reports.Iglesias will miss one-to-three games while his wife gives birth to their child. The shortstop has been swinging a ht bat recently, going 12-for-21(.571 average) with one home run and four RBI over his past six games. While he's out, Dixon Machado could log a couple starts in his stead.
Aug 26 2017Iglesias went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Friday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox.This isn't said often, but Iglesias supplied all of the Tigers' offense as Chicago starter Miguel Gonzalez twirled a gem. Iglesias usually bats at the bottom of Detroit's order and doesn't supply much in the way of counting stats, so he's really only an option in deeper or AL-only leagues.
Aug 24 2017Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-2 loss to the Yankees. After beginning August in a brutal .128 (6-for-47) slump, Iglesias now has four hits in his last two games, and Wednesday's homer gave him a new career high of five. The shortstop's .646 OPS on the year is right in line with his 2016 output, though, so don't expect a big finish to the campaign.
Aug 20 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.Iglesias is 0-for-12 over his last three contests, so he'll head to the bench for a breather after starting 10 straight. In his place, Dixon Machado will start at shortstop, batting ninth.
Aug 12 2017Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Saturday against the Twins.Iglesias crushed his fourth homer of the year to bring the Tigers within one run in the eighth inning of a divisional win. Overall, he's been a week fantasy option, as he owns a .257 batting average along with a .363 slugging percentage.
Aug 9 2017Iglesias (personal) will start at shortstop and bat ninth Wednesday against the Pirates. As expected, Iglesias will immediately take back an everyday role at shortstop after he was activated from the bereavement list earlier Wednesday. Iglesias' return will presumably close Dixon Machado's brief window of extra at-bats.
Aug 9 2017Iglesias was reinstated from the bereavement list prior to Wednesday's game.Iglesias had missed the last three games while attending to personal matters, but should be back in the lineup for Wednesday's home tilt with the Pirates. The shortstop is batting a productive .318 since the All-Star break, with 11 RBI to go along with two stolen bases and a 1.8 WAR on defense.
Aug 8 2017Iglesias (personal) is expected to return from the bereavement list in time to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Iglesias has been away from the team since Sunday to mourn the death of a family member, but he's expected to return to the starting lineup after the minimum three-day stay. Jeimer Candelario will likely head back to Triple-A in a corresponding move, while Iglesias will resume his role as the Tigers' everyday shortstop.
Aug 6 2017Iglesias was placed on the bereavement list Sunday following a death in the family, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Iglesias was initially listed as the starting shortstop in the Tigers' lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, per Woodbery, but the 27-year-old ended up being scratched after he learned news of the family matter. Dixon Machado will now enter the starting nine at shortstop in the series finale, and the Tigers are expected to recall another infielder from Triple-A Toledo to join them in Pittsburgh on Monday for the start of a home-and-home series with the Pirates.
Aug 3 2017Iglesias (wrist) entered Wednesday's game in the bottom of the ninth as as a defensive replacement.Iglesias did not record an at-bat in the team's 2-0 victory over the Yankees, but the fact he was available defensively suggests a return to the starting lineup isn't far off. It also makes it highly unlikely Iglesias becomes a DL candidate as a result of this recent ailment.
Aug 3 2017Iglesias (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting ninth Thursday against the Orioles.Iglesias was able to serve as a defensive replacement during Wednesday's win over the Yankees, so it isn't too surprising to see him back in the starting lineup for the first time in three games. The 27-year-old, who is slashing .263/.295/.364 through 88 games this season, will face Chris Tillman in his first contest back.
Aug 2 2017Iglesias (wrist) is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees. He'll miss a second straight game with the right wrist sprain he sustained in the series opener Monday, allowing Andrew Romine to slot in at shortstop. Iglesias is being viewed as day-to-day, but if the injury lingers through the weekend, a trip to the disabled list would become more realistic.
Aug 1 2017Iglesias (wrist) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.Iglesias was forced to leave Monday's game in the sixth inning after spraining his wrist during an at-bat. There hasn't been any word on whether he'll require a trip to the DL, but the ailment is apparently bothering him enough to keep him out of the lineup. Consider him day-to-day for now; Dixon Machado is starting in his place at shortstop.
Jul 31 2017Iglesias left Monday's game against the Yankees with an apparent hand injury, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias was seen shaking his hand out after striking out in the sixth inning and was swiftly replaced at shortstop by Dixon Machado. It's unclear what exactly went wrong with Iglesias or how sever the injury is, but consider him day-to-day until team doctors are able to get a look at him.
Jul 31 2017Iglesias was diagnosed with a sprained right wrist after exiting Monday's game against the Yankees. The 27-year-old showed discomfort after striking out in the sixth inning and promptly left the game. It is still unknown if Iglesias will require a trip to the disabled list, so he is still considered day-to-day and will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
Jul 28 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Friday against the Astros.Iglesias hits the bench for the first time since July 18, as Dixon Machado draws the start in his stead. While trade rumors circle about, Iglesias could be on the radar for a contending team, with a slash line of .313/.320/.396 since the All-Star break.
Jul 23 2017Iglesias went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs during Sunday's win over Minnesota. This was just the third home run of the season for Iglesias, and his .264/.294/.363 slash line hardly moves the fantasy needle. However, the shortstop is a staple in the order and has a respectable 31 RBI and 40 runs, so he boasts value in cavernous settings.
Jul 10 2017Iglesias went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Indians.Iglesias gave the Tigers a spark from the No. 9 hole in this one. The 27-year-old shortstop doesn't offer a ton of power or speed, and with his placement near the bottom of Detroit's lineup, he's probably only a fantasy option in deeper or AL-only leagues.
Jul 6 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Thursday against the Giants.Iglesias will get his first day off in the month of July, giving way to Dixon Machado at shortstop. He has just two hits in five starts this month, bringing his season batting average down to .241.
Jul 2 2017Iglesias will lead off and play shortstop Sunday against the Indians. The Tigers' regular table setter, Ian Kinsler, is receiving a day off after playing in both halves of Saturday's doubleheader, so Iglesias will climb from the No. 9 spot to assume duties at the top of the order. Iglesias served as the Tigers' leadoff hitter on just one other occasion this season, going 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts in that contest.
Jun 29 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Thursday against the Royals. It will be just the third day off this month for Iglesias, who will give way to Andrew Romine at shortstop. A break was likely in order, as Iglesias started heating up in the middle of the month, but has just two base hits since June 20.
Jun 18 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays.Iglesias will hit the pine following a string of eight straight starts, during which he went 11-for-28 (.393 average), but only one run and two RBI. Dixon Machado will step in to man shortstop in the series finale.
Jun 8 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Thursday against the Angels.Iglesias made his ninth start in a row in Wednesday evening's contest, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout for his second hitless game in the last three. He'll take a seat for the series finale, giving way to Dixon Machado at shortstop.
Jun 3 2017Iglesias went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs during Saturday's win over the White Sox.It was the second consecutive three-hit game and third in five outings for Iglesias. However, with a .255/.281/.385 slash line, his fantasy value remains limited. The shortstop is a sneaky flier in daily contests against southpaws, though. Iglesias owns a respectable .296/.353/.427 slash line against lefties dating back to the 2015 season.
May 30 2017Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two runs in Monday's 10-7 win over the Royals. The light-hitting shortstop offered some nice production out of the nine-hole, posting his third multi-hit effort over the last six games in the process. Iglesias hasn't done much offensively this season, but he's now hitting .321 with four doubles, a home run, four RBI and five runs in the 29 plate appearances encompassing his last six contests.
May 28 2017Iglesias is starting at shortstop and batting ninth Sunday against the White Sox.Iglesias slotted in as the Tigers' leadoff hitter in their first two games without Ian Kinsler (hamstring), but manager Brad Ausmus has since settled on Andrew Romine as the team's table setter. With Iglesias now back at the bottom of the order, his opportunities to produce runs and steal bases are expected to take a hit.
May 22 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup Monday against the Astros, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.Iglesias, who is slashing just .200/.226/.308, will head to the bench after starting the last five games for the Tigers. Dixon Machado will draw the start at shortstop in his stead, batting ninth.
May 14 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels. After going 0-for-11 over the first three games of the series to drop his batting average to .204 for the season, Iglesias will give way to Dixon Machado at shortstop Sunday. Iglesias' defensive prowess should keep him in the lineup on a regular basis, but his lack of impact at the plate may only make him roster worthy in deep mixed or AL-only leagues.
May 2 2017Iglesias is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Indians.Outside of a two-hit game Sunday, Iglesias has been less than impressive at the plate lately. He'll head to the bench for a night off with Andrew Romine taking over at shortstop in his stead.
May 1 2017Iglesias went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Sunday's win over the White Sox.Iglesias has missed time due to a concussion this season, and he's slashing just .233/.258/.383 with one home run and eight RBI. He hits at the bottom of Detroit's order, so he'll never rack up huge counting stats, but it would be nice to see more performances like the one he turned in Sunday.
Apr 27 2017Iglesias has not yet been activated from the disabled list because he's still waiting for final clearance via the league's concussion protocol, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Detroit has not announced a roster move, but the initial expectation was that he'd be activated Thursday. Iglesias' owners in deep fantasy leagues should monitor what happens before today's contest with Seattle.
Apr 27 2017Iglesias is batting ninth and playing shortstop Thursday for the Tigers.Their game with the Mariners looks like it'll be delayed due to rain, though, so it may be a good chance to bench Iglesias for his return from the 7-day concussion disabled list.
Apr 27 2017Iglesias (concussion) was activated from the 7-day disabled list Thursday. The shortstop returns after the brief break as he received clearance from league doctors. Left-handed reliever Kyle Ryan was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to open up the roster spot. Iglesias likely will start for Detroit on Thursday, if weather doesn't wash things out.
Apr 26 2017Iglesias (concussion) is expected to be activated from the 7-day DL on Thursday, Matthew B. Mowery of the Oakland Press reports. He has apparently passed all the necessary tests, and figures to rejoin the lineup for the finale of the series against the Mariners. Dixon Machado is getting the start at shortstop and hitting eighth Wednesday.
Apr 25 2017Iglesias (concussion) has been cleared to participate in baseball activities, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.Iglesias was placed on the disabled list last Friday, but is on track to be activated as soon as he is eligible. Until Iglesias is back, Andrew Romine is in line to spend additional time at shortstop.
Apr 21 2017Iglesias (concussion) will be placed on the 7-day DL on Friday, the Detroit News' Lynn Henning reports. The Tigers had hoped that Iglesias would only need a day or two off after taking a knee to the head during Wednesday's game, but by late Thursday night, the move to the DL was set in motion. He will be out until at least next weekend, and reliever Joe Jimenez will be summoned from Triple-A to take his spot on the active roster. Dixon Machado, who offers very little offensive value, will be the primary shortstop while Iglesias is out.
Apr 20 2017Iglesias (head) is out of Thursday's lineup against the Rays. There is no official diagnosis for Iglesias and he will continue to be evaluated and monitored after taking a knee to the head/jaw while attempting to turn a double play in Wednesday's game, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. Dixon Machado will start at shortstop and hit ninth in his absence.
Apr 20 2017Iglesias will likely head to the 7-day disabled list with concussion symptoms, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias is still experiencing headaches after taking a knee to the head/jaw while attempting to turn a double play during Wednesday's game against the Rays, so it appears the Tigers will err on the side of caution with him. He'll continue to be monitored and evaluated, though he remains without a timetable for return. Dixon Machado or Andrew Romine could see starts at shortstop in his stead.
Apr 19 2017Iglesias, who took a knee to the head/jaw while attempting to turn a double play in the ninth inning of Wednesday's game against the Rays, is in fair condition and seems to be OK, Evan Woodbery of the MLive Media Group reports.Iglesias took a knee directly to the side of his head on the final play of Wednesday's game. At first glance, it appeared to be a concussion-inducing collision, and though manager Brad Ausmus stated that though the shortstop has "been in better shape", Iglesias told his teammates that he'll be fine moving forward. He'll be listed as day-to-day until a more affirmative prognosis becomes available.
Apr 11 2017Iglesias is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Twins. The defensive wizard is hitting just .091 with two hits through 22 at-bats. Fortunately, one of those hits left the yard, but the early returns have not been promising overall. This should not come as a surprise, as Iglesias' main fantasy appeal is that his glove keeps him in the lineup most days and he can therefore compile some counting stats. Dixon Machado will start at shortstop and hit ninth in his stead.
Apr 8 2017Iglesias went 2-for-3 and hit his first home run of the season in Saturday's win over the Red Sox.Iglesias has never hit more than four home runs in a season, so don't get too used to the power. The 27-year-old is more known for his defense, and he'll likely spend most of his time in the bottom third of Detroit's lineup.
Mar 12 2017Iglesias (neck) is back in the lineup at shortstop and will bat leadoff in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.Iglesias had been sidelined since Tuesday with neck tightness, but he's apparently made enough progress in the last few days to return to action. The brevity of his absence shouldn't affect his standing as the team's everyday shortstop entering 2017, though expect him to hit in the bottom third of the lineup rather than the leadoff spot more often than not.
Mar 10 2017Iglesias (neck) remained out of the lineup Friday, but manager Brad Ausmus expects him back by Saturday, The Detroit News reports.Iglesias tweaked his neck in a collision at home plate Tuesday. Neck injuries are always scary, but it's looking like this one will go down as a minor ding for Iglesias, and it shouldn't prevent him from suiting up and starting at shortstop on Opening Day for Detroit.
Mar 9 2017Iglesias (neck) was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League lineup, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. He occupied a spot in the original order for Thursday but needed to stop his day before it began. Iglesias sustained the ding when he slid into home plate Tuesday, catching a knee to the head or neck. The aggressive play may cost him at least a few days of work, and this setback is worth watching to value him properly in cavernous mixed or AL-only drafts.
Mar 7 2017Iglesias removed himself from Tuesday's Grapefruit League game after injuring himself sliding into home plate, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias caught a knee to the face while sliding head-first into home plate, forcing him to leave with the trainer. He'll likely be tested for a concussion and should be considered day-to-day until the Tigers release more.
Jan 13 2017Iglesias agreed to a one-year contract with the Tigers on Friday, avoiding arbitration. The terms of the agreement were not announced. Iglesias was once again a wizard on defense and well below-average hitter (73 wRC+) in 2016. His elite glove will keep him in the lineup most days, but there's not much value to extract from a fantasy perspective.
Sep 25 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup Sunday against the Royals.Iglesias was listed on the Tigers' initial lineup, but the team issued a second lineup shortly after that does not include the young shortstop. At this point, it does not appear as if the absence is related to the hand injury that forced him out of Friday's game, and it's worth noting that Iglesias started and played in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Royals. Andrew Romine will get the starting nod at shortstop in Iglesias' place Sunday.
Sep 24 2016Iglesias (hand) is in the lineup Saturday against the Royals.Iglesias took a throw off of his right hand Friday afternoon, forcing him to depart the game early and undergo X-rays. With the results returning negative, Iglesias has been cleared to return to action, and he'll start at his usual shortstop spot Saturday looking to extend his five-game hitting streak.
Sep 23 2016Iglesias left Friday's game with a right hand contusion. He took a throw off his hand at some point but it sounds like Iglesias avoided any kind of serious injury, as X-rays were negative. The Tigers are listing Iglesias as merely day-to-day ahead of Saturday's matchup against Daniel Norris and the Tigers.
Sep 16 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup Friday against the Indians.Iglesias hasn't had a day off since August 29, so he'll take a seat for Friday's bout. Erick Aybar will take over at shortstop in his stead.
Sep 12 2016Iglesias has struggled at the plate this season with a .244 average in 409 at-bats.His slash line of .244/.296/.323 is far below his all-star season of 2015 (.300/.347/.370 in 416 at-bats). But it's important to note that Iglesias has cut his number of errors in half to five (from 11) and his fielding percentage (.990) is well above the league average of .976. Leave him between the chalk lines and out of your lineup unless your format weights defensive contributions.
Aug 29 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup Monday against the White Sox.Iglesias started his first two games back after being activated off the DL, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout and a walk over the weekend. The day off Monday is likely part of an effort to give his hamstring a bit of a rest after he missed just over two weeks with a hamstring strain. Erick Aybar will draw the start at shortstop in his absence and bat ninth.
Aug 28 2016Iglesias, who went 0-for-2 with a walk in his return Saturday, will be back in the lineup Sunday and bat ninth.Iglesias is working to get back in the groove after sitting for two weeks with a hamstring injury. He's better against lefties, so it's a decent matchup against the Halos' Tyler Skaggs. Iglesias is .245/.303/.400 against lefties.
Aug 27 2016Iglesias (hamstring) was activated off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. The Tigers designated Alex Presley for assignment Saturday in order to clear a spot for Iglesias on the active roster. Iglesias' return may not tip the scales much for the Tigers offensively, but having his glove back at shortstop will be a huge boon to their infield defense. Andrew Romine and Erick Aybar stand to see a severe reduction in playing time with Iglesias back in the fold.
Aug 27 2016Iglesias is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels.Iglesias immediately rejoins the Tigers' lineup after being activated off the DL earlier Saturday. He'll bat ninth against Brett Oberholtzer. During his rehab assignment, Iglesias hit .375 with a double and a home run over four games.
Aug 26 2016Iglesias (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias completed his rehab assignment and is with the team in Detroit. He played very well over four games at Triple-A Toledo, going 6-for-16 with a home run. Although Iglesias will be activated from the DL on Saturday, the club says that Erick Aybar will likely continue seeing occasional time at shortstop moving forward.
Aug 25 2016Iglesias (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.Iglesias has not encountered any setbacks since beginning a rehab assignment Monday, and has also hit the ball well, so it appears that his stint on the disabled list is nearing its end. Iglesias figures to resume his role as the Tigers' primary shortstop when he is officially activated, but the team acquired Erick Aybar during Iglesias' absence, so he may not play nearly every day as he did previously.
Aug 21 2016Iglesias (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Toledo, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.Iglesias was placed on the disabled list just over a week ago, but it appears he will not require a lengthy amount of time to recover from his hamstring injury. He is expected to play at least four games with Toledo, but that still gives him a chance to be activated from the disabled list Friday when first eligible.
Aug 12 2016Iglesias (hamstring) was scratched from Friday's game with a mild left hamstring strain, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Manager Brad Ausmus said that Iglesias is dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered during Wednesday's game against the Mariners while running down the first base line. He didn't rule out Iglesias possibly landing on the disabled list, but he will be considered day-to-day for the time being. In his place, the Tigers will plug Andrew Romine in at short.
Aug 12 2016Iglesias (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday.Iglesias has gone from being in the lineup to being scratched to being placed on the DL in a matter of hours Friday. He initially suffered the hamstring injury in Wednesday's contest against Seattle and despite the day off in between games, his injury has not sufficiently healed. The Tigers recalled reliever Warwick Saupold from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, but their options at shortstop behind Iglesias aren't overly encouraging. Mike Aviles and Andrew Romine figure to split shortstop duties while Iglesias is sidelined.
Aug 10 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.Iglesias will get a regular day off, as this will mark his first time out of the lineup since July 20. Mike Aviles mans the shortstop position in his place, facing Felix Hernandez and the Mariners while batting ninth.
Jul 25 2016Iglesias went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a home run on Monday against the Red Sox.Iglesias has now hit safely in five straight games, raising his average to .258. The shortstop isn't likely to match his .300 average from a season ago, but his four home runs mark a season high, and he is on pace to set new career-highs in both RBI and runs scored as well.
Jul 20 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.Iglesias will get a rare day off, as the Tigers go with Andrew Romine at shortstop against Minnesota righty Ervin Santana. The 26-year-old Iglesias is coming off of an 0-for-4 performance Tuesday night.
Jul 15 2016Iglesias went 2-for-3 with one run scored in Friday's 4-2 win over Kansas City.Iglesias just hasn't been able to replicate his outstanding 2015 and he's now scuffling along with a .254/.308/.336 slash line. However, it should be noted that he has 20 RBI and 38 runs in 283 at-bats after driving in 23 and scoring 44 in 416 last season. His numbers haven't been great, but Iglesias is certainly cashing in on the opportunities he's been given.
Jul 9 2016Iglesias is not in Saturday's lineup against Toronto.Iglesias is getting a regular day off Saturday for the first time this month. He will be replaced by Andrew Romine at shortstop as the Tigers face Aaron Sanchez and the Blue Jays.
Jun 24 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians.Andrew Romine will get the start at shortstop Friday as Iglesias gets his first day off since June 12. Iglesias has had a strong month of June altogether as he's slashed .351/.425/.468 while also providing top-notch defense from the shortstop position. He figures to rejoin the lineup Saturday following his rest day.
Jun 23 2016Iglesias will bat second in the order Thursday against the Mariners, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.Iglesias typically bats out of the nine-spot, but he'll move up in the order Thursday due to Cameron Maybin, the typical two-hitter, getting the day off. The 26-year-old shortstop owns a .427 on-base percentage in the month of June, making him a strong candidate for the short-term role.
Jun 16 2016Iglesias extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a pair of singles in Thursday's win over the Royals. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored; he also reached on a fielder's choice. Iglesias has put a horrible May behind him (.160 in 25 games) and is now turning in a performance that hints that his outstanding 2015 wasn't a fluke.
Jun 12 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees. It looks as though Iglesias will have to wait a bit to try and extend his hitting streak to 11 games, as manager Brad Ausmus will give him the afternoon off Sunday. Mike Aviles will replace Iglesias at shortstop and bat ninth in the order.
Jun 10 2016Iglesias went 1-for-4 in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Yankees, extending his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. The 26-year-old got the season off to a terrific start, hitting .421 after his first five games. However, Iglesias had largely struggled since that point, with his average hitting a low of .211 on May 31. The Tigers shortstop started his current hitting streak the very next day, and has now slashed .385/.467/.500 over 26 June at-bats. He's still not contributing in the power department (one homer on the season), but if he can keep his on-base levels much closer to his current figure, it would certainly help make up for his month-plus of poor production.
May 30 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup Monday against the Angels.Iglesias has made six straight starts at shorstop, so it was time for a routine day off. Manager Brad Ausmus will turn to Andrew Romine to take over at shorstop and bat out of the nine-spot.
May 22 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays. After five consecutive starts at shorstop, Iglesias will get a regular day of rest Sunday in favor of Andrew Romine. Look for Iglesias to return to action when the Tigers open up a three-game series with the Phillies on Monday.
May 15 2016Iglesias is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.Iglesias will get the afternoon off after starting the previous four games, during which he batted 3-for-13 with his first homer of the season. Mike Aviles will fill in for Iglesias at shortstop and bat ninth in the order.
May 11 2016Iglesias went 1-for-3 with his first homer of the year -- a solo shot -- against the Nationals on Wednesday. Not only did he account for one of the two runs against Nats starter Max Scherzer, he also accounted for only one of Scherzer's 20 strikeouts. All in all, that has to make it a successful evening for the 26-year-old shortstop, who entered Wednesday's action with just two extra-base hits in 95 at-bats.
May 11 2016Iglesias is batting eighth and starting at shortstop Wednesday against the Nationals. While Iglesias has struggled of late, he returns to the lineup Wednesday after sitting in favor of Andrew Romine on Tuesday. Iglesias is hitting .242 on the season with nine walks and three stolen bases.
May 10 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals.Iglesias has started the last four games, going 1-for-13 in that span, so he'll get a day off to clear his head. Andrew Romine will take over at shortstop and bat eighth against Joe Ross.
May 5 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Indians.Iglesias will get the day off after starting four consecutive games. He is hitting .268/.333/.280 with 10 runs, two RBI, and three stolen bases through 24 games this season.
Apr 29 2016Iglesias is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.Iglessias is off to a great start this season, hitting .284/.360/.299 with two stolen bases through 20 games this season. He will get the day off after starting five games in the last five days.
Jul 4 2015Iglesias is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.Iglesias has two hits in two career at-bats against Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey, but manager Brad Ausmus decided to give him a day off after he started eight straight games. Josh Wilson will get the start at shortstop in Iglesias' place.
Jul 1 2015Iglesias, who entered Tuesday hitting .330 with an on-base percentage of .384, could move into the leadoff spot for the Tigers, according to the Detroit Free Press. He has spent almost the entire season hitting out of the nine hole. The spotlight would increase dramatically on the hot-hitting shortstop, whose average sits fourth in the American League. He has hit second a few times this season, but has never gone to the top of the lineup. If he could handle it without it affecting his game, his fantasy value will go up in a big way, particularly in the runs scored department. He'd have a lot of massive bats behind him to punch him in. Keep an eye on it -- Anthony Gose is struggling with a .167 average and .214 on-base percentage in June.
Jun 23 2015Iglesias is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Indians.Iglesias reached base five times over the last two games, but manager Brad Ausmus decided to give him a day off for the first time since May 27. Andrew Romine will get the start at shortstop in Iglesias' place.
Jun 2 2015Iglesias is batting second in Tuesday's lineup against Kendall Graveman and the A's.Coming off an ugly four-game sweep at the hands of the Angels, the Tigers will move a hot Iglesias up to second in the order, with Ian Kinsler dropping back to fifth and J.D. Martinez to sixth. The change won't necessarily last, but with a .338/.396/.426 slash line and 12:11 K:BB ratio through 42 games, Iglesias has made a strong argument that he deserves better than the eighth or ninth spot in the lineup. He's never going to hit for much power, and the walks will probably drop off to some extent, but Iglesias has done a fantastic job of making contact this season. If he had enough plate appearances to qualify, he'd rank among the major-league leaders in swinging-strike rate (3.5 percent), contact percentage (91.7) and zone-contact percentage (97.1). He also hits very few fly balls, which is ideal for a player with minimal power. The flip side is that Iglesias makes very weak contact, meaning he needs a ton of ground balls and line drives, along with a very low strikeout rate, just to maintain a respectable slash line.
May 28 2015Iglesias (knee) is back in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.Iglesias is in the lineup for the first time since suffering a knee contusion during Saturday's game against the Astros. He was said to be available as a pinch-hitter Wednesday night but never got into the game. With Iglesias' return, Austin Romine moves back to a utility role while Dixon Machado heads to Triple-A Toledo.
May 27 2015Iglesias (knee) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics.Iglesias' absence from the lineup will stretch to four games Wednesday, but it's not expected to send him to the disabled list. Dixon Machado will receive the start at shortstop again Wednesday, batting eighth for the Tigers.
May 27 2015Iglesias's knee is still dealing with some minor swelling, but it available to pinch hit and can take grounders that are hit "right at him" according to manager Brad Ausmus, Lynn G. Henning of The Detroit News reports.Iglesias will sit out Wednesday for a third straight game, but he appears close to a potential return. He's available to pinch hit if needed Wednesday, but the swelling likely prevents him from some of the lateral movement required to play shortstop.
May 26 2015Iglesias (knee) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.It does not appear that Iglesias is dealing with the type of setback that will land him on the disabled list, but he will miss his third straight game Tuesday. Andrew Romine will start at shortstop for the Tigers on Tuesday.
May 25 2015Iglesias (knee) is out of the lineup Monday against the Athletics.Iglesias' absence Monday represents his second straight after leaving Saturday due to a left knee contusion. Thankfully, both an MRI and X-rays Sunday confirmed no structural damage, so he likely remains day-to-day. Dixon Machado will receive the start at shortstop Monday, batting ninth for the Tigers.
May 25 2015Manager Brad Ausmus indicated Monday that he'd be "shocked" if Iglesias (knee) required a stint on the disabled list, James Schmehl of MLive Media Groupreports.Iglesias remains out of the lineup, but he's still considered day-to-day at this point. The fact that a DL stint is even being discussed is a bit concerning, but unless something changes, it doesn't look like it will be necessary.
May 24 2015Iglesias (knee) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Astros. After leaving Saturday's game early with a left knee contusion, Iglesias could be held out of multiple contests while he waits for his condition to improve. The Tigers will slot Andrew Romine in at shortstop while Iglesias remains day-to-day in advance of Monday's series opener in Oakland.
May 24 2015Manager Brad Ausmus said that an MRI and X-rays on Iglesias' bruised knee showed no structural damage, MLive.com's Chris Iott reports. The examinations confirm that Iglesias is only dealing with swelling to the knee and not a more severe issue, which will likely take a DL stint off the table. Andrew Romine will replace him in Sunday's lineup against the Astros at shortstop, but Iglesias remains firmly in the day-to-day camp.
May 23 2015Iglesias left Saturday's game with a left knee contusion and should be considered day-to-day.He banged knees with Chris Carter in the third inning of Saturday's game and was hobbled thereafter. Iglesias was 2-for-2 with a run scored before exiting Saturday. Should he miss Sunday's game, then Andrew Romine or Hernan Perez would be the options to slot in at shortstop.
May 21 2015Iglesias is out of the lineup Thursday against the Astros.Iglesias has made nine straight starts for the Tigers, but will get the day off in the midst of a 3-for-18 mini-slump. Andrew Romine will take his place at shortstop, batting ninth in the order.
May 18 2015Iglesias singled with two out in the seventh on Monday night to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base.Iglesias has smacked three RBI and scored one run in those nine games, but he's only struck out once. His slash line of .345/.400/.445 is fuelled by a higher-than-expected BABIP (.370) and that's remarkably difficult to sustain. A correction is coming, but he's still valuable if he can maintain his great contact, especially with such an impressive glove.
May 14 2015Updating a previous report, Iglesias will start at shortstop Thursday afternoon against the Twins, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.Detroit manager Brad Ausmus had constructed several contingency lineups in case J.D. Martinez (back) was unable to play, and it appears Iglesias was left out in the lineup shuffle. He'll make his third straight start at shortstop and bat ninth in the order.
May 14 2015Iglesias is out of the lineup Thursday against the Twins.Iglesias missed time earlier in the week with a minor groin injury, so it's not overly surprising to see him get the afternoon off following a night game. Andrew Romine will take over for him at shortstop, batting ninth in the order.
May 13 2015Iglesias reached based in each of his first three plate appearances Wednesday night. He walked once and singled twice. He boosted his slash line to .360/.418/.483. He's off to a fantastic start and you need to take advantage of this production. Better yet, you should consider leveraging this output to gain a better asset in a trade. He can't sustain this level, even if he has improved his swing. His best asset is still his glove.
May 12 2015There is still some chance Iglesias (groin) will be scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Twins, as the Tigers want to see their shortstop run before making a final decision, Tony Paul of the Detroit News reports.Iglesias is in the starting lineup as the shortstop and No. 8 hitter, but there's apparently still some chance he'll be scratched. He missed each of the last four games.
May 12 2015Iglesias went 1-for-3 Tuesday against the Twins.Iglesias had missed the last four games with the groin injury and there was talk that he could be a late scratch Tuesday, but he ended up getting the start. He should remain the everyday starter for now, but this is an injury that he has re-aggravated in the past, so continue to monitor his status closely over the next couple weeks.
May 12 2015Iglesias (groin) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.Per usual, Iglesias will bat ninth and start at shortstop, returning from a four-game absence. He's been surprisingly productive through his first 83 at-bats this season, with a .340 batting average, a home run, three RBI, eight runs and five stolen bases.
May 9 2015Iglesias (groin) probably won't play until Tuesday, Tony Paul of the Detroit News reports.Given Iglesias's history with the injury, the Tigers may be afraid of bringing him back too early and causing further damage. Even though Tuesday is the expected return date, he should still be considered questionable for that game. A combination of Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez have been filling in at shortstop in his absence.
May 9 2015Iglesias (groin) is still out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals. You can't really blame the Tigers for being cautious with the young shortstop considering how nagging this injury has been. Each subsequent day from now will have an improving chance he returns, so keep checking.
May 8 2015Iglesias (groin) is out of the lineup again Friday, as expected.Iglesias re-aggravated his groin injury when he returned to the lineup earlier this week and now the Tigers want to take a cautious approach. Manager Brad Ausmus said Thursday that Iglesias would probably be out "a couple days," so his status Saturday is questionable. Andrew Romine will get the start at shortstop Friday and hit ninth.
May 7 2015Iglesias is still dealing with a groin issue and will likely be out until at least Saturday, MLive's Chris Iott reports. "It will probably be a couple days, I would think," manager Brad Ausmus said Thursday of when Iglesias might get back in the lineup. He is out of the lineup Thursday and could miss a game or two this weekend too. Iglesias first injured the groin Sunday but it has not healed as quickly as expected. Hernan Perez will start at shortstop Thursday.
May 6 2015Iglesias (groin) is in the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.Iglesias was forced out of Sunday's game with groin tightness and was held out of the lineup Tuesday, but the issue appears to be behind him now as he'll slot back into the lineup as the starting shortstop, batting ninth.
May 5 2015Iglesias (groin) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.Iglesias was hopeful he wouldn't miss any time, but it will be Austin Romine starting at shortstop Tuesday night. Iglesias suffered the injury during Sunday's game, and he can still be considered day-to-day.
May 3 2015Iglesias left Sunday's game due to groin tightness, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.Iglesias was 1-for-2 at the plate before being replaced by Andrew Romine. The team is listing him as "day-to-day" for now, so be sure to check Tuesday's lineup before using the young shortstop in daily formats.
May 3 2015Iglesias (groin) is hopeful that he'll be able to play Tuesday against the White Sox, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports.Iglesias said he aggravated a pre-existing groin injury during Sunday's game, ultimately forcing him out of action, but it doesn't sound like he's too concerned about it being a long-term issue. In the event Iglesias is held out of the lineup Tuesday or beyond, Andrew Romine would pick up the lion's share of the at-bats at shortstop.
Apr 29 2015Iglesias is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.Iglesias has been hot at the plate to start the season, slashing .379/.431/.515 over the first month. He will simply get a maintenance day off Wednesday, with Andrew Romine starting in his place and batting ninth.
Apr 23 2015Iglesias is not in the lineup Thursday against the Yankees.Iglesias will be replaced by Hernan Perez at shortstop after starting 14 of the first 15 games for Detroit. The 25-year-old has hit safely in seven of the last eight games, opening the year with a .396/.453/.479 slash line. He'll presumably return to his regular role for Friday's series opener against the Yankees.
Apr 18 2015Iglesias delivered the Tigers the win Friday over the White Sox with his first-ever walk-off hit in the ninth inning. He put a single through the right side.He was 2-for-4 on the day and has been an offensive revelation for the team, leading them with a .484 average and getting on base at a .529 clip. He spent the offseason focusing on his bat, not his already stellar glove, and the work is paying off. He gets the ball in play courtesy of a nice, short swing and he can beat out hits because of his speed.
Apr 15 2015Iglesias went 1-for-2 with a walk and his fourth steal of the year Wednesday against Pittsburgh. His excellent start to the season continues, as Iglesias is still holding a .481 average to go with his speed contributions. Amazingly, Iglesias has already set a new career high in steals. It's hard to know what to expect from the 25-year-old Cuban, but he's shown some ability to hit for average in the past.
Apr 14 2015Iglesias went 2-for-3 including a double and a stolen base, and he scored a run Tuesday against Pittsburgh. He is now 12-for-25 (.480) on the season. His game is based on his glove and his best hitting attribute is his average -- there just isn't much power here and he doesn't walk much. A dry spell at the plate will sink any value he might have.
Apr 11 2015Iglesias is out of the lineup Saturday against the Indians. With three more hits Friday, Iglesias now has nine base knocks in 15 at-bats this season, though only one has gone for extra bases. Still, it's good to see the 25-year-old get off to such a strong start after he missed all of last season with stress fractures in both shins and then struggled to a .135 average (7-for-52) in spring training. Austin Romine will get the nod at short Saturday, but Iglesias remains the primary option moving forward.
Apr 8 2015Iglesias' strong start to the season continued Thursday as he went 4-for-4, including a double, and scored three times in the Tigers' rout of the Twins. This offensive outburst will certainly not continue, as his best asset is clearly his glove. But six hits in seven at bats in his first two games is certainly worth noting. He appears healthy after missing all of last season, but watch for him to sit down a few times early in the season -- he only first played nine full innings on March 29.
Apr 6 2015After missing the entirety of the 2014 season with stress fractures in his shins, Iglesias had a strong debut Monday, going 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.Iglesias played all nine innings despite only first doing so this year on March 29. Having struggled with the bat this spring, Iglesias' two-hit day was a nice surprise, and the two steals now make up one quarter of his eight career thefts. In his last full season the defensive whiz hit .303 in 109 games between the Red Sox and the Tigers.
Mar 29 2015Iglesias played a full nine-inning game Saturday for the first time this spring, MLive.com reports. He's scheduled for a day of rest Sunday, but Iglesias is progressing toward playing in back-to-back full games on Monday and Tuesday. It would hardly be surprising to see the Tigers give him regular days off when the regular season begins, but Iglesias is expected to handle the bulk of the playing time at shortstop. Iglesias has gone 4-for-38 (.105) at the plate this spring, but he's chipped in three steals while striking out just three times.
Mar 12 2015Iglesias (leg) plans to start at shortstop in Friday's spring game, and serve as the DH Saturday, James Schmehl of MLive Media Group reports.Iglesias had to be helped off the field after suffering an injury during batting practice Wednesday, but as expected, the ailment isn't overly serious. The projected Detroit starting shortstop should resume a regular workload in short order.
Mar 9 2015Iglesias (leg) is penciled in to start Tuesday's game, MLive's James Schmehl reports. He was helped off the field Sunday but the X-rays were negative, and it does not sound like he will miss much time at all. Iglesias figures to be the Tigers' starting shortstop this year, but he is the definition of a glove-first shortstop and will not offer much value in fantasy leagues.
Mar 8 2015Iglesias' (shin) X-rays came back negative after he was helped off the field Sunday.Iglesias was scratched from Sunday's lineup, but is considered day-to-day with the injury. The news makes the injury seem minor, but he has a history of shin issues, so it is something to monitor as spring training progresses into the regular season.
Mar 8 2015Iglesias had to be helped off the field with an apparent leg injury during batting practice, Scott Miller of Turner Sports reports. The bad injury luck just keeps coming for Iglesias, who was apparently struck by a hard hit ball in his previously injured shin, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. This could be bad, as the 25-year-old lost his 2014 season with a stress fracture in that same shin and also suffered a contusion there last Friday.
Mar 6 2015Iglesias left Friday's Grapefruit League game with a right shin contusion.Anything to do with Iglesias' shins is cause for concern -- the 25-year-old missed all of last season with stress fractures in both shins -- but it seems he avoided a serious setback. Iglesis slid awkwardly into second base in the fourth inning but reportedly escaped with just a bruise. He was icing it afterward and said he's fine.
Mar 5 2015The Tigers will continue to bring Iglesias along slowly this spring, using him on alternating days for Grapefruit League games, the Detroit News reports. In addition to running at full speed recently, the Tigers gave Iglesias two at-bats and three innings in the field during Wednesday's game. He's scheduled to get the start Friday against the Braves.
Mar 1 2015Iglesias is starting at shortstop and hitting second inf the Tigers' first spring lineup, Anthony Fenech of freep.com reports. This should be Iglesias' triumphant return to the field after his leg injury, and a little earlier than expected given prior reports that he's be playing some designated hitter this spring. If he gets reliable playing time through the spring, there's no reason to believe he's not the Tigers everyday shortstop with no restrictions in 2015.
Feb 25 2015Iglesias (leg) could serve as the designated hitter early in spring training to get in extra at bats, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias won't put as much stress on his injured shins playing in the designated hitter role, allowing him to get in extra reps. Manager Brad Ausmus said that there's some concern about how Iglesias' shins will hold up over the course of the season, but he will try to get in work any way he can in spring training in preparation for the campaign.
Feb 21 2015Iglesias (shins) is only running at about 85-90 percent intensity, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias reiterated that he is 100 percent healthy, but after missing all of last season with stress fractures in both shins, he wants to ease into his spring work. The Tigers have said that they will monitor Iglesias closely in the weeks ahead in hopes of avoiding any sort of setback.
Feb 19 2015Tigers manager Brad Ausmus admitted that "there's a little bit of concern" regarding how Iglesias' shins will hold up over the long grind of the season, MLive.com reports. The 24-year-old Iglesias is said to be fully healthy entering spring training after missing all of last season with stress fractures in both of his shins. However, Ausmus suggested the team will monitor Iglesias closely, saying "I'm just worried that this thing might sneak back up on us over the course of a few months if we don't pay attention to it." Iglesias is currently penciled in atop the depth chart at shortstop for Detroit.
Jan 28 2015Iglesias (leg) will be fully healthy by spring training, the Detroit Free Press reports. After missing the 2014 season with stress fractures in both shins, Iglesias is back to 100 percent at every activity but sprinting, and believes he'll be there by the start of spring training. When he does return, the 25-year-old will be in line for the starting spot at short, but he'll likely have to show he's back to full health before locking down his spot atop the depth chart.
Dec 18 2014Iglesias, who is recovering from stress fractures in both shins, has been running this offseason, Lynn Henning of The Detroit News reports. It's not entirely clear where Iglesias stands in his recovery, but it's a good sign that he is able to get on his feet and run. The Tigers believe he will be ready to go when spring training kicks off in February.
Oct 18 2014Iglesias (lower leg) is expected to be ready for spring training, the Detroit Free Press reports. "The doctors tell me he'll be fine," GM Dave Dombrowski said. "He's going to be ready for spring training, he's going to be ready to go, and he's over all of his [injuries]."Stress fractures in both shins kept Iglesias out for the entire 2014 season, but the 24-year-old is ramping up his baseball activities, and it sounds like he'll be a full-go come spring training. Dombrowski is not, however, willing to anoint Iglesias the starting shortstop for 2015 just yet, since manager Brad Ausmus and the rest of the coaching staff haven't seen him play more than half an exhibition game. However, Dombrowski said he'd be "surprised" if Iglesias doesn't earn the everyday job.
Oct 18 2014Iglesias (lower leg) is expected to be ready for spring training, the Detroit Free Press reports. "The doctors tell me he'll be fine," GM Dave Dombrowski said. "He's going to be ready for spring training, he's going to be ready to go, and he's over all of his (injuries)."Stress fractures in both shins kept Iglesias out for the entire 2014 season, but the 24-year-old is ramping up his baseball activities and it sounds like he'll be a full-go come spring training. Sep 10 2014Iglesias (leg) has been cleared for lower-body exercises and hopes to be ready for a normal offseason program, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Iglesias has missed all of the 2014 season with stress fractures in both legs, but he has been progressing well. He expects to be ready by the start of the 2015 season, and while he figures to be the starting shortstop when he returns, the Tigers have added some depth at the position, so Iglesias may have to fight for the role in the spring.
Jun 4 2014Iglesias (leg) is expected to be ready for the 2015 season, the Oakland Press's Matthew B. Mowery reports. He remains out for the 2014 season, and his next check up with doctors will be in mid-August. Shortstop prospect Eugenio Suarez was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, and if he impresses, he could challenge to start in 2015 as well.
Mar 29 2014Iglesias (lower leg) was placed on the 60-day DL on Saturday, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports. It's just a procedural move with Iglesias set to miss the entire 2014 season with stress fractures in both of his legs. As the roster is currently constructed now, the Tigers appear set to enter Opening Day with Alex Gonzalez and Andrew Romine as their shortstops.
Mar 20 2014Iglesias (lower leg) is not expected to play this season, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports. The Tigers finally confirmed that Iglesias does have stress fractures in both legs, and the 24-year-old will be restricted to non-weight-bearing conditioning for four-to-six months. There's a chance Iglesias could return after five months, but GM Dave Dombrowksi said the team is prepared to move on without him this year. It leaves Detroit with a gaping hole at shortstop, as Hernan Perez and Eugenio Suarez likely aren't ready for the job and Steve Lombardozzi can't cut it at the position. Free agent Stephen Drew seems like an obvious fit, but there's nothing to report on that front.
Mar 17 2014Iglesias has been diagnosed with stress fractures in both his legs, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.Iglesias believes he will be able to play at some point this season, but it likely won't be any time soon, so the Tigers may ultimately decide to acquire another shortstop who is not currently part of the organization. The Tigers should have a better feel for Iglesias' recovery timetable after he visits a specialist Tuesday.
Mar 16 2014Iglesias (shin) will start the season on the disabled list, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Recent reports have suggested Iglesias will miss at least the first half of the season, but the Tigers have only confirmed that he will begin the season on the DL. While Iglesias will see a specialist Tuesday for a second opinion, his shins are said to be significantly injured and rumors that Detroit may look to bring in free agent Stephen Drew are already swirling.
Mar 15 2014Iglesias (shins) is in danger of missing a significant portion of the season, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports. The news was first reported by ESPN's Jim Bowden, then backed up by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, with both Bowden and Heyman relying on information from one (or possibly two) of Iglesias' friends in the major leagues. When asked about the reports, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said that the team is, "not prepared to answer this question." Officially, the Tigers haven't even ruled Iglesias out for Opening Day, but it's starting to sound like that's no longer the real question. In the absence of clarity, prospective fantasy owners should tread very, very carefully. A lengthy absence, while not confirmed, looms as a possibility until further notice.
Mar 15 2014Iglesias is dealing with significant injuries in both shins and will likely be out until at least the All-Star break, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports. While the Tigers have yet to confirm anything, there are now a number of respected sources in the industry confidently reporting that Iglesias will miss a big chunk of the season, if not the whole thing. The situation still demands clarification, but prospective fantasy owners are best served staying away from Iglesias, outside of the very deepest leagues. Even in those deeper formats, it's probably wise to view him as nothing more than a shaky late-season stash, until more information is available. Free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew may get a call from Detroit in the coming days, if he hasn't already. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski previously went over his planned budget in 2012, when he brought in Prince Fielder to make up for a severe pre-season injury to Victor Martinez.
Mar 14 2014Iglesias (shin splints) will visit a specialist Friday, the Detroit News reports.Iglesias has been sidelined for the past two weeks as he deals with lingering shin problems. The results from Friday's visit could determine whether Iglesias will be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 12 2014Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said Wednesday that he believes Iglesias (shin splints) will play in games this weekend, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.Iglesias was able to take batting practice on consecutive days to begin the week, and Dombrowski said he had another good workout Wednesday. The progress is encouraging, and while manager Brad Ausmus recently hinted Iglesias' Opening Day availability could be threatened if he can't return to action soon, the 24-year-old would still seem to have a decent chance to be ready if he can indeed make it back this weekend.
Mar 12 2014Iglesias (shin splints) took batting practice Tuesday, the Detroit News reports. That marks back-to-back days Iglesias was able to step into the batter's box. He also got in work with his glove Tuesday. The Tigers still haven't set a timeline for Iglesias' return to spring training action, but he's trending in the right direction.
Mar 10 2014Iglesias remains sidelined with shin splints, MLive.com reports.Iglesias didn't join the Tigers for a back-to-back road set Sunday and Monday, and his return to game action is still uncertain. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus hinted that Iglesias may not be ready for Opening Day if the shortstop is unable to return soon. With three weeks remaining before Opening Day, Iglesias still has plenty of time to return to action and shake off the rust, but owners will want to keep an eye on the situation in the short term.
Mar 7 2014Iglesias (shins) will take batting practice on the field Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.Shin splints have sidelined Iglesias for over a week now, but he was able to hit in the cages Thursday and will take some swings on the field Friday. It's still uncertain when he may return to game action, but Iglesias doesn't appear to be too far off.
Mar 5 2014Iglesias (shins) began playing catch Wednesday, Lynn Henning of The Detriot News reports.Iglesias was sidelined for a week recovering from shin splints, and while he is making progress, there is no timetable yet for his return.
Feb 28 2014Iglesias will be sidelined for "about a week" with shin splints, the Detroit News reports.Iglesias battled shin splints late last season, too. The Tigers are hopeful that giving Iglesias early treatment for the ailment will curtail any long-term issues. Hernan Perez, who's battling for a roster spot, will see extra time at shortstop while Iglesias is on the shelf.
Jan 8 2014Iglesias agreed to a one-year, $1.65 million contract with the Tigers on Wednesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.Iglesias has not racked up enough service time to be eligible for arbitration, but the two sides needed to agree upon a new deal after the four-year major league contract that Iglesias signed with Boston in 2009 expired. Iglesias, who posted a .654 OPS in 46 games with the Tigers last season, is already considered among the top defensive shortstops in the league and is expected to serve as the team's primary shortstop in 2014.
Oct 15 2013Iglesias is not in the lineup for Game 3 of the ALCS against the Red Sox.Iglesias will sit for the second straight game in the series. He has struggled with the bat in the postseason, going 2-for-15 with one walk over seven games. The Tigers will go to the stronger bat in Jhonny Peralta and Iglesias will likely be used as a defensive replacement at shortstop late in the game.
Oct 13 2013Iglesias is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the ALCS.Even with two of the top offensive teams in the game, it seems runs may be at a premium in this series, so the Tigers will go with Jhonny Peralta at second in Game 2 rather than the defensive wizard Iglesias.
Oct 12 2013Iglesias is starting at shortstop in Saturday's Game 1 of the ALCS, MLive.com's Chris Iott reports.Jhonny Peralta got the nod over Iglesias in Game 5 of the ALDS, but Iglesias is back for the start of a new series, while Peralta is playing left field. Iglesias went 1-for-12 during the Tigers' ALDS series against the A's.
Oct 10 2013Iglesias is not in the lineup for Thursday's Game 5 of the NLDS.The Tigers need all the offensive firepower they can get with Miguel Cabrera batting .250 with zero extra-base hits and just one RBI in the series. Jhonny Peralta is nowhere near the defender Iglesias is, but he packs a much more potent offensive punch, so he'll get the nod at short in Game 5 while Don Kelly mans left field.
Sep 27 2013As expected, Iglesias (hand) is back in the lineup Friday against the Marlins, MLB.com reports.Iglesias was return to action Wednesday as a late-inning defensive replacement, so his presence in the lineup two days later is not much of a surprise. The Tigers also welcomed back Jhonny Peralta from suspension Friday, but he's expected to see most of his duty in the corner outfield moving forward while Iglesias continues to provide world-class defense at shortstop.
Sep 26 2013Iglesias (hand) is expected to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Marlins, Mlive.com reports.Iglesias has been sidelined since getting hit in the left hand by a pitch on Sept. 19. The young shortstop took batting practice prior to Wednesday's win over Minnesota without any complications, hurdling the final obstacle in his recovery from the injury. Look for him to return to action for Detroit's final series of the regular season.
Sep 25 2013Iglesias (hand) hit off a tee Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias has still been having difficultly gripping a bat, which has held him out of action for five consecutive games. The next step in his progress is to take batting practice Friday. If all goes well Friday, Iglesias may have a chance to return during the final series of the season, but Detroit won't rush back their starting shortstop if he's not at full strength. Ramon Santiago will continue to see the majority of starts at shortstop until Iglesias is ready to return.
Sep 24 2013Iglesias (hand) is still out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.Iglesias has not been able to play with a hand contusion and has been out of the lineup for four straight games. Ramon Santiago will take the start again at shortstop.
Sep 22 2013Iglesias (hand) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.The hand contusion, which was the result of Iglesias being hit by a pitch earlier in the week, will keep the 23-year-old out of the lineup for a third straight day. Ramon Santiago will make another start at short, while Iglesias should be available to pinch run.
Sep 21 2013Iglesias (hand) is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.With Iglesias not fully recovered from the hand contusion he sustained in Thursday's game, Ramon Santiago will make another start at shortstop. The Tigers will proceed carefully with Iglesias to make sure he's healthy as possible entering the playoffs.
Sep 21 2013Iglesias (hand) will be available to pinch-run Saturday if needed, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports. It sounds like Iglesias' bruised hand is causing him the most troubled in the field, as it likely doesn't feel comfortable having his glove pressed against the injured area. He at least reported improvement Saturday, so his recovery seems to be trending in the right direction.
Sep 20 2013Iglesias (hand) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, MLB.com reports.Iglesias left Thursday's game with a left hand contusion that he sustained when he was hit by a pitch. X-rays came back negative, but he likely is still dealing with some discomfort, so Ramon Santiago will start Friday at shortstop. He should be considered day-to-day while he tries to return to the field.
Sep 19 2013Iglesias was diagnosed with a left hand contusion after X-rays came back negative, MLive.com reports. The Tigers will breathe a sigh of relief since it appears their shortstop avoided a fracture, but Iglesias isn't necessarily out of the woods yet. Depending on how severe the bruising on his hand is, Iglesias may still experience some pain while swinging the next few days, potentially keeping his bat out of the lineup for a few games.
Sep 19 2013Iglesias exited Thursday's game after taking a pitch off his left hand, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports. The Tigers will likely evaluate Iglesias shortly and determine whether or not he sustained a fractured hand after Mariners reliever Tom Wilhelmsen's fastball struck the shortstop. Iglesias has had difficulty staying healthy since coming over from the Red Sox at the trade deadline, missing time due to four different injuries.
Sep 15 2013Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.Iglesias missed two games with shin splints earlier this month, but started each of the last six games before Sunday. Ramon Santiago will get the nod at shortstop in Iglesias' absence.
Sep 10 2013Iglesias went 1-for-3 in Monday's loss to the White Sox.Iglesias has now played in back-to-back games since sitting out two contests with shin splints. He should be safe to deploy going forward.
Sep 8 2013Iglesias (shin splints) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Royals, MLB.com's James Schmehl reports.Iglesias sat for the last two days but is back in action Sunday. His offensive production continues to impress, as he owns a surprisingly strong .296/.343/.378 batting line since joining the Tigers.
Sep 7 2013Iglesias (shin splits) will remain out of the lineup Saturday against the Royals.Manager Jim Leyland ultimately elected to give Iglesias a second consecutive day off after alluding to the shortstop's possible return to the lineup Friday. It still doesn't sound like the injury will sideline him more than another day or two.
Sep 7 2013Tigers manager Jim Leyland hinted after Friday's game that Iglesias (shin splints) could return to the lineup Saturday against the Royals, the Detroit Free Press reports.Iglesias was given the night off Friday to rest his sore shins, but he admitted to feeling better after the day off. Look for the rookie shortstop to make a quick return to the lineup.
Sep 6 2013Iglesias reported that his shin splints were feeling better Friday, FOX Sports Detroit reports.Manager Jim Leyland went ahead and held him out of Friday's lineup as a precaution, but it seems likely he'll be back in the lineup Saturday. With a .319/.366/.399 batting line and a world-class glove at shortstop, Iglesias should earn a healthy number of AL Rookie of the Year votes.
Sep 6 2013Iglesias (shin) is not in the lineup Friday against the Royals. While attempting to complete a double play Wednesday, Iglesias took a shot to his lower leg area and was later diagnosed with bilateral shin splints. The hope was that he'd be ready following Thursday's off-day, but it seems the 23-year-old is still ailing. His status for Saturday is up in the air at this point.
Sep 4 2013Iglesias was removed from Wednesday's game with bilateral shin splints, MLive.com reports. It appeared Iglesias was clipped in the lower leg area while turning a double play in the fourth inning, which seems to be the initial instance in which he suffered the injury. With the Tigers due to receive an off day Thursday, manager Jim Leyland didn't want to take any chances with his shortstop and removed him from the game after he appeared to be limping while running to first in his next at-bat. He's considered day-to-day with the injury.
Aug 26 2013Iglesias (elbow) is back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics, MLive.com reports.Iglesias sat out both games over the weekend due to swelling in elbow after he was hit by a pitch Friday. However, X-rays came back negative, and Iglesias is back at shortstop and batting ninth Monday.
Aug 25 2013X-rays on Iglesias' elbow came back negative Sunday morning, MLive.com reports. While it looks like Iglesias avoided a fracture after taking a pitch to the elbow Friday night, the area remains swollen and has deprived Iglesias of his full range of motion. He has been able to take part in light toss and hit in the batting cage but until the swelling retreats, he'll cede shortstop duties to Ramon Santiago.
Aug 25 2013Iglesias (elbow) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets, MLive.com reports.Iglesias is still troubled by swelling in his arm and is presumably unavailable for the Tigers. The team doesn't really have any reliable alternatives at shortstop with Jhonny Peralta suspended, so expect the Tigers to wait out the injury unless it's determined a DL stint can't be avoided. It's too early to speculate yet if such a fate awaits Iglesias.
Aug 24 2013Iglesias, who is out of the Tigers' lineup Saturday at the Mets, will be unavailable off the bench due to swelling in his arm, MLive.com reports.Manager Jim Leyland relayed that Iglesias is unable to "bend his arm," which has resulted in a day-to-day status. In Iglesias' absence, Ramon Santiago will cover second base and bat eighth in the order.
Aug 24 2013Iglesias is out of the Tigers' lineup Saturday at at the Mets. After a 0-for-3 performance at the plate Friday, Iglesias' personal five-game hitting streak came to pass, during which he posted a robust .526 average (10-for-19), one RBI, and three runs scored. In his absence, Ramon Santiago will man shortstop and bat eighth in the order.
Aug 9 2013Iglesias (toe) is back in the lineup Friday at the Yankees, batting ninth and taking on shortstop, MLB.com reports.Iglesias was sidelined Thursday due to a left toe contusion, but the ailment was clearly not too incredibly serious. Since joining the Tigers at last week's trade deadline, he's hitting a middling .190 (4-for-21) with one homer, three RBI, and one run scored.
Aug 8 2013Iglesias was scratched from Thursday's lineup with a left toe contusion, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports. The injury is hardly an ideal scenario for the Tigers with second baseman Omar Infante on the DL and Jhonny Peralta suspended, but the toe issue doesn't figure to keep Iglesias sidelined for more than a day or two. Ramon Santiago will take his spot in the lineup.
Aug 5 2013Iglesias will cover shortstop and bat eighth in the order Monday in Cleveland during the Tigers' first game following the 50-game suspension placed upon typical shortstop Jhonny Peralta.Iglesias has been in the lineup every game since his arrival in Detroit on August 2 but will make his first start at shortstop, as Miguel Cabrera returns to action from four games missed. Expect Iglesias to handle short most days going forward, with Ramon Santiago and Hernan Perez providing support when an off day is required.
Aug 3 2013Iglesias was 1-for-3 with an RBI in his debut with the Tigers on Friday.Originally slotted in to play second base, Iglesias slid over to the hot corner after Miguel Cabrera (abdomen) was a late scratch. Iglesias is expected to take over as the Tigers' primary shortstop if Jhonny Peralta is suspended after this weekend, as expected. If Peralta defies the odds and avoids a suspension, Iglesias' versatility will allow him to play a utility role in Detroit.
Aug 2 2013Iglesias will man second base and bat ninth in his Tigers debut Friday.Iglesias is set to don his new threads against left-hander Hector Santiago and the White Sox on Friday. The 23-year-old brings little power and speed to the Tigers, but he at least brings a consistent bat, and provides the club with an insurance policy at short should Jhonny Peralta be suspended.
Jul 31 2013Iglesias will report to the Tigers on Friday, the Detroit Free Press reports.Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski admitted that he acquired Iglesias as insurance in case Jhonny Peralta is suspended. All signs point to MLB handing out suspensions for the Biogenesis scandal soon. Assuming Peralta is on that list as reported, Iglesias could be in line to carry the load at shortstop for Detroit down the stretch.
Jul 30 2013Iglesias was traded to Detroit on Tuesday in a three-team deal that sent Jake Peavy to Boston and Avisail Garcia to the White Sox, CBSSports.com reports. With reports that Jhonny Peralta could be suspended for 50 games in the next 72 hours for PEDs related to the Biogenesis scandal, Iglesias could wind up as the starting shortstop in Detroit. He represents a big upgrade on the defensive end and gives Detroit a potential long-term option at the position.
Jul 29 2013Iglesias is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Rays, Jenny Dell of NESN reports. While Iglesias continues to impress defensively, he's been struggling at the plate in recent weeks, which is hurting his chances to firm up regular playing time heading into the final two months of the season. Brandon Snyder will play third base for the Red Sox on Monday night.
Jul 21 2013Iglesias was hitless in three at-bats Saturday and is now 2-for-18 in his last five games.Iglesias' average has nowhere to go but down after building a .400 average through May and June when he hit .401 (45-for-112). He's hitting just .241 (13-for-54) with a .300 on-base percentage in July.
Jul 20 2013Iglesias went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Friday night's win over the Yankees. His seventh-inning single broke a 1-for-16 spell.Iglesias, who had been above .400 for a stretch, has seen his average fall to .366. Other than a few hot stretches in the minors, Iglesias has not experienced much offensive success, and we expect more offensive falloff in the second half of the season.
Jul 11 2013Iglesias is expected to take over at third base when Stephen Drew (hamstring) is ready to return at shortstop, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. This seems like a no-brainer, because while Brock Holt has filled in adequately since Drew landed on the DL, Iglesias continues to swing a hot bat and will likely continue to see regular playing time when Drew's healthy.
Jul 8 2013Iglesias was hitless in three at-bats and had his batting average drop below .400 for the first time this season. He's now hitting .395.Iglesias hasn't been slumping, but sustaining an average that high is not easy. In the past 11 games, Iglesias is hitting .308 (12-for-39).
Jun 19 2013Iglesias started at third base and went 1-for-3 in the second game of Boston's double-header against Tampa Bay.Iglesias, who did not play in the first game of the twin-bill, deserves to be in the lineup daily based on his recent stretch of hitting (31-for-72 since May 24), but the Red Sox are still deferring to Will Middlebrooks and Stephen Drew on the left side of the infield.
Jun 18 2013Iglesias is not in the Red Sox's lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Rays, NESN reports. In his stead, Dustin Pedroia returns to action after his first rest of the season to take on second base. Meanwhile, Iglesias will likely see the field in the nightcap at either shortstop or third base in order to fit in one of his 3-to-4 starts per week.
Jun 17 2013Iglesias made his first-ever start at second base Sunday and went 1-for-4 while batting second in the order in Boston's loss to Baltimore. The hit, an infield single, extended his hitting streak to 17 games. It was the third consecutive start for Iglesias, all of them at a different position. He started at shortstop Friday, at third base Saturday, and second base Sunday.
Jun 15 2013Iglesias started at shortstop Friday night and had two of Boston's three hits in a 2-0 loss to Baltimore.Since Will Middlebrooks was activated from the disabled list last Monday, Iglesias has made two starts -- one at third base and one at shortstop. Boston manager John Farrell stated the young infielder would get 3-to-4 starts per week in a rotation along with Middlebrooks and shortstop Stephen Drew. However, the numbers don't lie. At some point, if Iglesias' hot bat stays hot, he should get more opportunities than Middlebrooks and/or Drew.
Jun 15 2013Iglesias will start at third base Saturday, WEEI.com reports.Iglesias started at shortstop Friday night as manager John Farrell makes good on his statement to get the team's new utility infielder into 3-to-4 games per week. This will be his third start since Will Middlebrooks was activated off the disabled list earlier this week.
Jun 11 2013Iglesias entered Monday night's game as a pinch-runner and scored a run in Boston's extra-inning win over Tampa Bay.The hot-hitting Iglesias got a night off with the return of Will Middlebrooks, but we suspect he'll get a start in the next day or two. The plan is currently for him to serve as a utility infielder that plays 3-4 times per week. But he could emerge with more opportunities as Middlebrooks and shortstop Stephen Drew (a combined 1-for-13 on Monday) continue to struggle at the dish.
Jun 10 2013Iglesias will play 3-to-4 times per week following the return of Will Middlebrooks from the DL on Monday, the Boston Globe reports.Iglesias has been kept around to act as a utility infielder, but his bat has impressed during his stint with the big club this season. In 74 at-bats, he is slashing .446/.494/.581, as he will fill in when needed at third base or shortstop.
Jun 10 2013Iglesias is out of the Red Sox's lineup Monday, after Will Middlebrooks (back) was activated from the DL, NESN reports.Middlebrooks has been on the disabled list since May 24, which has allowed Iglesias to shine at third base. On the season, Iglesias is batting .446/.494/.581 with one homer, seven RBI, 13 runs scored, and one stolen base in 74 at-bats. Third base will be covered most days by Middlebrooks, but Iglesias could also see time at shortstop due to Stephen Drew's uninspired play at the plate.
Jun 9 2013Iglesias will be replaced as Boston's starting third baseman once Will Middlebrooks (back) is activated from the disabled list, the Providence Journal reports. "Will's our third baseman," Boston manager John Farrell said. "We've said that. But yet at the same time, Jose is doing an excellent job. Once Will's returned and the roster decision is made, if the scenario is that Jose is our utility guy, we've got to be sure that we rotate him through there to keep him in the mix."Iglesias, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games in Sunday's win over the Angels, has earned himself a roster spot with the way he's performed since his call-up. And Farrell doesn't want to remove his hot bat from the order. He'll likely replace Pedro Ciriaco as the team's utility infielder and receive more starts than Ciriaco had been getting. He could also eat into Stephen Drew's playing time at shortstop. History tells us that Iglesias can't keep up the pace he's currently on, but he's gaining confidence as a hitter and Drew (.234 average, .182 against left-handers) hasn't set the bar too high.
Jun 7 2013Iglesias got the start at shortstop Thursday night and went 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored in Boston's win over Texas.Stephen Drew was given the night off, prompting a move from third base to shortstop for Iglesias, who has a 10-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in all 13 games since being called up.
Jun 5 2013Iglesias went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in Tuesday night in Boston's 17-5 win over Texas. He also played the final few innings at second base, a clear sign the team is considering keeping him up in Boston to serve as a utility infielder after Will Middlebrooks (back) returns to the lineup.Iglesias is starting to put together a stretch of hitting that can't be ignored. He's currently riding an eight-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 14 of the 16 games he's started this season, including nine multi-hit games.
Jun 5 2013Iglesias went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in Tuesday night in Boston's 17-5 win over Texas. He also played the final two innings at second base, a clear sign manager John Farrell is considering keeping Iglesias up in Boston to serve as a utility infielder after Will Middlebrooks (back) returns to the lineup.Iglesias is starting to put together a stretch of hitting that can't be ignored. He's currently riding an eight-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 14 of the 16 games he's started this season, including nine multi-hit games.
Jun 3 2013Iglesias homered during Sunday night's rain-shortened win over the Yankees.Iglesias has hit safely in seven straight games and is playing himself into a permanent gig with the Red Sox. He's filling in at third base for the injured Will Middlebrooks, but Iglesias is likely to remain with the team as a utility infielder beyond the third baseman's return to the active roster.
Jun 2 2013Red Sox manager John Farrell said the team is more open-minded to the idea of Iglesias remaining with the Red Sox once Will Middlebrooks (back) is activated from the disabled list, the Providence Journal reports. "We haven't ruled out that he would remain here in a utility role," Farrell said.In previous discussions of Iglesias playing in Boston, the Red Sox were reluctant to keep the young shortstop in the majors unless there was a specific opportunity for him to play everyday. But his recent stint with the club is changing that line of thinking. Iglesias has hit .431 (.455 on-base percentage) in a little more than 50 plate appearances this season, and the team is considering him for a utility infielder role, a situation in which he wouldn't be playing every game.
Jun 1 2013Iglesias will gain more reps at second base in the near future, as he is being groomed as a utility infielder to be able to play everyday, WEEI.com reports.Iglesias has yet to play at the keystone this season -- the position is held down by Dustin Pedroia -- as he has appeared in eight games at shortstop and seven outings at third. The absence of Will Middlebrooks (back) has allowed for the increased playing time, which Iglesias has utilized to hit .435/.460/.543 with three RBI and six runs scored in 46 at-bats across two stints with the Red Sox in 2013.
Jun 1 2013Iglesias had two hits in three at-bats Friday night in Boston's loss to the Yankees. It was his second consecutive multi-hit game and eighth straight game getting on base.Iglesias is 11-for-26 since his call-up from Triple-A Pawtucket and is rocking a .526 BABIP overall in two stints with Boston this season. That hit rate will normalize. He's just not that good of a hitter. In between his stints with the Red Sox, Iglesias hit .202 for Triple-A Pawtucket.
May 30 2013Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a double Wednesday night in Boston's 4-3 loss to Philadelphia.Iglesias has reached base in every game since being called up to Boston as an emergency fill-in for Will Middlebrooks. He's 7-for-18 with two doubles, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and six strikeouts. He's not a good enough hitter to sustain that hitting rate, but he's done enough to hang on as Boston's utility infielder once Middlebrooks returns, which is expected June 8.
May 25 2013Iglesias started at third base Friday night and went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two strikeouts. The Red Sox organization recently began transitioning Iglesias to third base and second base, with an eye toward him filling a utility infielder role with Boston. They didn't foresee the Middlebrooks injury happening so soon and needing Iglesias to start at third base after just one game at the position in the minor leagues.
May 25 2013Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Indians.Iglesias and Pedro Ciriaco are filling in for Will Middlebrooks (back) at third base, but Stephen Drew got the day off Saturday, allowing both of Boston's utility infielders to start. The Red Sox were surprisingly rewarded with a combined six hits from Iglesias and Ciriaco, neither of whom is thought to offer much at the plate.
May 24 2013The Red Sox recalled Iglesias from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, Jenny Dell of NESN Boston reports.Iglesias, who appeared in six games with the Red Sox earlier this season, was brought up to take the roster spot of Will Middlebrooks, who landed on the disabled list. He went 9-for-20 with the Red Sox earlier this season, but hit just .202 in 33 games with Pawtucket, so it seems likely that he and Pedro Ciriaco will share the third-base duties in Middlebrooks' absence. Iglesias, however, will man the hot corner for the Red Sox on Friday night.
May 7 2013Iglesias was out of the lineup for a third straight game Tuesday night for Triple-A Pawtucket, Comcast SportsNet New England reports.Iglesias was pulled after the fourth inning of Saturday's game in Pawtucket by manager Gary DiSarcina for not running out a couple of ground balls. The manager suggested Iglesias' continued absence from the starting lineup was for the same reason. Apparently, Iglesias has let his demotion to Triple-A affect his performance and effort level.
Apr 12 2013Iglesias belted a two-run homer and scored two runs Thursday night in his first game after being sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket.Iglesias, who was 9-for-20 in six games with Boston before being sent down, will look to build off the success he had in the majors. Truth be told, the .450 average in Boston was a relatively soft mark, enhanced by two bunt singles and three infield hits. He could really use the everyday at-bats and continue to work on making solid contact.
Apr 10 2013Iglesias was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday following the activation of Stephen Drew (concussion) from the seven-day DL, MLB.com reports.Drew is finally back in the fold for the first time since March 7, but the move forces Iglesias out of Boston, at least for the foreseeable future. Iglesias actually played quite well in place of Drew as the starting shortstop, batting .450/.476/.550 with one RBI and three runs scored. If he does make it back to the bigs at some point, he is unlikely to produce, outside of a decent batting average.
Apr 8 2013Iglesias is expected to be sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket when the Red Sox are ready to activate Stephen Drew from the 7-day concussion disabled list, WEEI.com reports.Sending Iglesias down to Pawtucket doesn't come as a surprise, but he did show quite a bit in the first week of the season. He had nine hits in 20 at-bats (.450) while displaying his advanced defensive abilities. Drew will appear in one more rehab game Monday night and, barring any unforeseen circumstance, will be activated Wednesday.
Apr 7 2013Ilgesias (elbow) said he could have played Saturday and expects to be in the lineup Sunday, the Providence Journal reports.Iglesias was evaluated Saturday and checked out OK, so we anticipate his presence in Sunday's rubber game against the Blue Jays.
Apr 7 2013Iglesias returned to the Boston lineup Sunday after missing one game with an elbow injury. He had two hits and scored a run in five at-bats in Boston's win over Toronto.Iglesias has multiple hits in all four games he's started and finished. There's been a couple of bunt hits and an infield single, but he's given no reason to be sent down. Stephen Drew (concussion) will play in one more rehab game for Double-A Portland, giving Iglesias a nice moment when he starts Boston's home opener Monday against Baltimore. Red Sox manager John Farrell stated earlier that Drew will become the starting shortstop when he returns, and that looks like it will happen Wednesday.
Apr 7 2013Iglesias (elbow) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports. As expected Iglesias returns to the lineup after a one-game absence. He should be fine going forward, but his limited batting skills make him largely a fantasy afterthought outside of AL-only leagues.
Apr 6 2013Iglesias' elbow injury suffered Friday night was referred to as a "right arm contusion" by Boston manager John Farrell after the game, the Boston Herald reports.Iglesias will be evaluated Saturday, so we anticipate an update.
Apr 6 2013Iglesias (elbow) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays, Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston reports.Reports out of Boston indicate that Iglesias is not scheduled to undergo X-rays, and he could be back in the lineup as early as Sunday. Pedro Ciriaco will start at shortstop for the Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.
Apr 5 2013Iglesias was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning Friday night, one at-bat after getting hit on the right elbow by a pitch.Iglesias initially stayed in the game and even made a good play in the field, but had to leave later on. Pedro Ciriaco pinch-hit for him.
Apr 4 2013Iglesias, who has five hits in two games, will not wrest the starting shortstop job from Stephen Drew, according to the Boston Herald. "We're certainly not going to take away from what Jose's done," Boston manager John Farrell said, "but we signed a premium guy in the offseason to be our starting shortstop and we're not going to look at an injury to cause him to lose his job."Iglesias is 5-for-9 with one RBI and one extra-base hit as a fill-in starter at shortstop. Drew is expected to begin a four-day rehab assignment with Double-A Portland and could be back with Boston in time for next Monday's home opener.
Apr 2 2013Iglesias had three hits and an RBI in five at-bats Monday in Boston's win over the Yankees on Opening Day.None of the hits left the infield, so we suggest waiting before going all in on Iglesias. He's opening the season as the starting shortstop until Stephen Drew (concussion) is deemed ready to return. But if Iglesias can sustain a passable amount of offense, he could steal the job from Drew.
Mar 25 2013Ilgesias had three hits Sunday, raising his spring average to .273.While Stephen Drew (concussion symptoms) starting to perform baseball activities (fielding grounders, batting practice), there's a good likelihood he opens the season on the disabled. That means Iglesias will remain with Boston as the team's starting shortstop.
Mar 21 2013Iglesias started at shortstop Thurdsay and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.News broke out of camp Thursday that Stephen Drew (concussion) has been cleared for baseball activities, but he's likely to start the season on the disabled list. Look for Iglesias to open the season as Boston's starting shortstop.
Mar 18 2013Iglesias will start at shortstop on Opening Day if Stephen Drew (concussion) is not ready to play, the Boston Herald reports.Apparently, the Red Sox prefer to have Pedro Ciriaco in a utility role, so the light-hitting Iglesias will provide a steady glove at the position during Drew's increasingly likely absence to begin the year.
Mar 17 2013Iglesias had a triple Saturday and now has six extra-base hits in 36 spring at-bats, the Providence Journal reports. He had a total 15 extra-base hits in 429 at-bats last season. "The aggressiveness in the swing and the hard contact has shown up here the times he's been on the field," said Boston manager John Farrell. "It's been very encouraging."The Red Sox coaches put some work into Iglesias' approach at the plate this spring and they are largely pleased with the results. The question remains can he sustain good at-bats over longer stretches. With Stephen Drew (concussion) still sidelined, Iglesias' bat is putting him in a position to open the season in Boston.
Mar 14 2013Iglesias, who has been getting some extra work in camp because Stephen Drew (concussion) remains sidelined, has impressed manager John Farrell at the plate, Comcast SportsNet New England reports. "I think he's starting to figure some things out with his set-up at the plate, which has translated into a much more free and much more aggressive approach. More than anything, because he's more upright in his set-up, he's seeing the ball better," said Farrell. We all the drill with Iglesias. He has a fantastic glove, but has not been able to string together any long stretches of offense in the minors or his brief stays with Boston. With Drew experiencing concussion symptoms a week after getting beaned last week, we start to think about him being ready for the regular season. Iglesias would likely fill in if Drew were unable to go Opening Day.
Feb 23 2013Red Sox manager John Farrell said Iglesias, who hit a two-run homer in Saturday's spring-training game against Tampa Bay, is "a little bit more upright" in his batting stance, the Providence Journal reports. "He's more free in his overall swing and he got a fastball up in the zone and he did what he's capable of doing," Farrell said. "More than anything, it's just the freeness and the aggressiveness."The over-arching concern about Iglesias has been his ability to hit -- both at Triple-A and in the major leagues. That inability to string together any consistency as a hitter prompted to the Red Sox to add shortstop Stephen Drew to open 2013 as the starter. The team would love Iglesias to lay claim to the job in 2014 with a strong offensive season this year.
Dec 28 2012Iglesias appears to be slated to open the 2013 season at Triple-A Pawtucket, following Boston's signing of free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew, the New England Sports Network reports.According to Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, Iglesias "was upset" when he learned of the Drew signing. Iglesias presumed he would be contending for the starting shortstop job in spring training. The young shortstop will need to show he's a better hitter than the guy who hit .118 last September, before the Red Sox hand him a full-time role.
Nov 25 2012Iglesias is not playing winter ball this offseason, instead the Red Sox have him working on a program to improve his strength, MLB.com reports. The Red Sox aren't ready to give up on the slick-fielding shortstop, who hit just .118 in his late-season audition in 2012. Iglesias has a few areas of improvement offensively, but the organization will start with his strength. "We've talked to him a lot about his offseason, and the importance of his offseason from a strength standpoint," Boston general manager Ben Cherington said. "He's got a plan in place and people he's working with. There will be different people involved." Boston will likely add some insurance in the offseason in the event Iglesias' offense doesn't show improvement during spring training.
Sep 29 2012Iglesias is opting to train this winter and will not play winter baseball, the Red Sox' official site reports.Iglesias feels building more strength through training will have more of an impact on his offensive development than playing winter ball somewhere. Either path can be argued; the important thing is that it leads to be him being a better hitter at the major league level. The young shortstop is 6-for-54 (.111) since his August call up.
Sep 21 2012Iglesias went 3-for-4, hitting the first homer of his career, and scored twice in Boston's loss to Tampa Bay.Iglesias hasn't had any nights like. Thursday's breakout game comes after the young shortstop prospect went 2-for-35 since being called up to Boston. Iglesias will continue to get regular work as the starting shortstop through the end of the season, but we're not expecting many more nights like this. He's looked over-matched in first extended look at major league pitching.
Sep 18 2012Red Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan said Iglesias needs to learn pitch selection in order to improve as a hitter, WEEI.com reports. Iglesias is 2-for-30 (.067) since being called up to Boston."We can take batting practice, and mechanically he's OK. He just has to understand whether to swing at this pitch, whether not to swing at this pitch, what am I looking for, am I recognizing what I'm looking for. Those are all things you gain that edge after having a lot of at-bats under your belt," said Magadan. Iglesias has 1,115 plate appearances between the minors and majors in his career, though the Red Sox feel he's never had a consistent approach at the plate. That's something they worked on finding for him during spring training. It sounds like Magadan would like him to get more minor-league experience at recognizing pitches, though that will be a call for whomever is managing Boston in 2013.
Sep 4 2012Iglesias went 0-for-2 on Monday and is hitless in 16 at-bats since being called up.The slick-fielding shortstop also committed an error in Monday's loss to the Mariners. The good news is that the Red Sox are giving him regular playing time -- Iglesias has started three of the past four games. He's been a streaky hitter in the minors, but was swinging a good bat at the time of his call-up. Seeing major league pitching is certainly a factor in his poor start. We'll be looking to see how quickly he can adjust.
Sep 1 2012Iglesias started at shortstop for the third time in four games Friday night, going 0-for-3 in Boston's loss to Oakland. The Red Sox are getting into evaluation mode for the rest of the season. Iglesias should see regular at-bats from here on out, though it may not be of much help to fantasy teams. The shortstop does not have a hit in 12 at-bats.
Aug 30 2012Igleisas started at shortstop Wednesday night for he second straight game. He went 0-for-4 and now is 0-for-9 since his callup.Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine hasn't outlined any sort of plan when it comes to the shortstop position. Mike Aviles, who has been Boston's starting shortstop all season, served as the team's designated hitter Wednesday. It would be logical for the organization to give Iglesias as many starts/at-bats as possible over the month of September.
Aug 29 2012Iglesias started at shortstop Tuesday night in Boston's walk-off loss to the Angels. He hit eighth in the batting order and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout while also failing to get down a bunt when the Red Sox up by one and looking to add an insurance run in the eighth inning.Iglesias was making his first start since getting called up over the weekend. We suspect he'll get more starts through the end of the season, but it has been surprising that he was used so little since his callup.
Aug 28 2012Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine isn't sure about a plan for Iglesias, who was called up over the weekend, the Boston Herald reports.Iglesias made an appearance in Saturday's game as a pinch-runner and had an at-bat when the game went into extra innings, but has not played since. Valentine said he wasn't concerned about Iglesias sitting on the bench in Boston rather than getting at-bats in at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Aug 25 2012Iglesias was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday, the Boston Globe reports. The team traded Nick Punto to the Dodgers on Saturday, away other players, prompting the team to call up Iglesias to serve in a backup role on the left side of the infield. He's batting .235 with 12 steals in 101 games at Pawtucket.
Mar 27 2012Iglesias has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, ESPN Boston reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It looks like Mike Aviles has won the starting shortstop job as a result. Iglesias could be in the majors early in the season, especially if he improves at the plate at Triple-A.
Mar 23 2012Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Iglesias is ready to play in the major leagues, but won't commit to giving the young shortstop a spot on the 25-man roster to open the season, the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the organizational belief that Iglesias needs a little more time at the Triple-A level, Valentine is liking what he sees on the field. "I think he's played pretty well and showed some really good progress. We have to decide whether he's had enough undergraduate credentials in order to take the next step forward," said Valentine. The highlight of Iglesias' game is his defense; the question remains whether he can hit consistently enough.
Mar 19 2012Iglesias (groin) was back in the Boston lineup against the Twins on Monday, WEEI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is likely ticketed to start the season at the Triple-A level, where his development at the plate -- as well as injuries on the big club -- will likely dictate the pace of his advancement to the bigs.
Mar 17 2012Iglesias (groin) went 1-for-4 in a minor-league game Saturday, Comcast SportsNet New England reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias, who has been dealing with the sore groin all week, was close to returning Friday night but was a late scratch. "Iglesias actually tried to run hard out of the box in his fourth at-bat," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine, "and felt fine. I'll probably give him another day, but he think he'll be OK."
Mar 16 2012Iglesias (groin) was held out of Thursday's game but "probably could have played," according to manager Bobby Valentine, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias still has an outside shot at winning the starting shortstop job, but Mike Aviles is still the frontrunner. If he does win the job, it'll be for his glove, not his bat.
Mar 14 2012Iglesias' groin injury is doing much better and the shortstop may be able to play Thursday, the Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias has been nursing a sore groin since the weekend.
Mar 13 2012Iglesias (groin) participated in some drills Monday, but not in what Boston manager Bobby Valentine referred to as "quick action" drills, the Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias sustained a right groin injury in the past couple of days and will be brought along slowly. "We're going to be ultra-conservative with him and use this off-day (on Wednesday) to hopefully get him back on the 15th with no ill effects," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.
Mar 12 2012Iglesias is dealing with a sore groin, WEEI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias, who is 3-for-10 in Grapefruit League play, is not likely to suit up for the Red Sox until after Wednesday's off day. "I92m going to see how it is when he comes tomorrow. I have the inclination to not play him through the off day, unless he92s perfect," manager Bobby Valentine noted Sunday.
Mar 2 2012Iglesias had a single and drew a walk Thursday in a "B" game between Boston and Minnesota, the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As much as the Red Sox want to see Iglesias prove he can hit, they are happy that he can work the plate for walks, too. Igleisas has walked just 36 times in 671 plate appearances over the past two years. "Plate discipline is a wonderful thing," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "It comes from confidence in a mechanic and an aggressive attitude. He has the aggressive attitude, and when he gets a good mechanic, I think he could have plate discipline."
Feb 25 2012The Red Sox are having Iglesias scrap the hitting approach he used last season and get him back to the set-up approach he used when the team first signed him, the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The conventional wisdom is that Iglesias needs some time in the minor leagues and put together some quality at-bats, but Red Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan said that starts with having Iglesias be himself instead of imitating others. "What we've identified with him is that he's always been a guy who tried to imitate players rather than try to be himself, and he was going away from what worked for him," Magadan said.
Sep 15 2011Iglesias went 1-for-1 with his first career hit after entering Thursday's game as a pinch-runner. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He should primarily serve as a defensive replacement over the season's final games, but he could log a start or two if Marco Scutaro's services are needed at third base.
Sep 13 2011The Red Sox called up Iglesias to the majors Tuesday, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias could see time as a defensive replacement, as his glove is one of the better shortstop gloves in the minors, but don't expect him to get much playing time behind Marco Scutaro and Mike Aviles, who both have superior bats at this time.
Jul 22 2011Iglesias (concussion) was activated and played Thursday night for Triple-A Pawtucket. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop had been out with a concussion since early July. He went 2-for-3 in his return, raising his season batting average to .233.
Jul 16 2011Iglesias underwent a test Thursday to determine how close he is to returning from a concussion, the Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The test is called an ImPACT test and it measures the extent to which cognitive function has returned for a person who has sustained a head injury. If all goes well, Iglesias will be permitted to participate in light activity. He could be a "week or so away from getting back on the field," said Triple-A Pawtucket manager Arnie Beyeler.
Jul 4 2011Iglesias suffered a concussion after getting hit in the head by a pitch Sunday, WEEI's Alex Speier reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias will be placed on the 7-day DL, but he's likely to be sidelined longer.
May 21 2011Iglesias has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Drew Sutton has been called up from Pawtucket and will handle a utility role while Iglesias continues his development with everyday playing time at short for Pawtucket.
May 12 2011Iglesias went 0-for-3 in his first major-league start Wednesday night in Boston's loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He may be Boston's shortstop of the future, but Iglesias is not going to help fantasy teams right now. He was having trouble at the plate in Triple-A at the time of his callup and those problems will only be exacerbated against big-league pitchers.
May 11 2011Iglesias will start Wednesday's game at shortstop, the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jed Lowrie is sick and is getting the day off. Iglesias made his major-league debut Sunday. Since then he's had only one at-bat and is still waiting for his first big-league hit.
May 9 2011Iglesias made his Red Sox debut Sunday, coming in as a defensive replacement in Boston's win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The organization has brought him up earlier than they wanted to, but he's here for a quick look while Marco Scutaro heals a rib cage injury. He's going to get some practice work at second base as he'll serve as Boston's backup infielder while Jed Lowrie starts at shortstop. Iglesias has a major-league ready glove, but the stick is still minor league. He doesn't project to be much more than a serviceable hitter in the bigs, but his defense will keep him employed for a long time.
May 9 2011The Red Sox have called up Iglesias from Triple-A Pawtucket, the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 21-year-old Jose Iglesias will give the Red Sox another shortstop to work along with Jed Lowrie, as Marco Scutaro deals with an injury that is expected to land him on the DL.
Mar 31 2011The Red Sox confirmed that Iglesias will begin the season at Triple-A Pawtucket, WEEI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias is that much closer to being Boston's everyday shortstop. We can expect a full season with the PawSox, but he's expected to be ready for duty in 2012.
Mar 17 2011The Red Sox have optioned Iglesias to Triple A Pawtucket, the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Iglesias, who was 8-for-25 this spring (.320), is viewed as major league ready in terms of defense, but Boston's shortstop-of-the-future stands to benefit from regular at-bats in the minors as he continues to hone his hitting skills.
Jan 21 2010Iglesias is participating in the Red Sox' two-week rookie development program in Boston, the Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The yearly program is intended to acclimate Boston's best prospects to the organization and the city of Boston ahead of being called up to the major leagues. Iglesias, who just turned 20, is being groomed as the shortstop of the future. He also played in the Arizona Fall League -- another sign of the organization's high regard -- and hit .275 with two homers and 18 RBI. Many scouts compare his defensive skills to those of 11-time Gold Glove winner Omar Vizquel.
