Apr 1 2025Lynn has announced his retirement from baseball, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn had been wanting to continue his career and was reportedly in talks with the Cubs last month about a major-league contract. However, he's ultimately decided to hang up his cleats. The 37-year-old finishes with 143 wins and a 3.74 ERA spread over parts of 13 big-league seasons. Lynn made two All-Star teams and won a World Series with the Cardinals in 2011.
Mar 13 2025The Cubs are in discussions with Lynn on a one-year, major-league contract, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cubs have been on the lookout for additional starting pitching depth and Lynn is one of the few legitimate rotation options still dangling on the free-agent market. In 117.1 innings with the Cardinals last season, the 37-year-old held a 3.84 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 109:44 K:BB.
Dec 4 2024Lynn has lost 20 pounds this offseason after dealing with nagging right knee issues during the 2024 season, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was limited to just 117.1 innings in 2024, which was his lowest full-season total other than in 2016 when he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 37-year-old went on the injured list twice with knee problems and decided he needed to drop some weight to take pressure of his knee if he wanted to continue pitching. A free agent, Lynn said he's been "surprised by the number of teams that have called" this offseason to express interest in signing him. The righty held a 3.84 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 109:44 K:BB in 117.1 innings across 23 starts for the Cardinals this past season.
Oct 31 2024The Cardinals will decline Lynn's (knee) $11 million club option for 2025, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team will pay Lynn a $1 million buyout instead. Lynn posted a 3.84 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 109:44 K:BB in 117.1 innings across 23 starts for St. Louis in 2024. He ended the season on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation but should be healthy by spring training, and the 37-year-old has said he intends to continue his career in 2025.
Sep 18 2024The Cardinals placed Lynn on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right knee inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn picked up a win Tuesday, holding the Pirates to one run over six innings. However, his knee has been an issue off and on throughout the 2024 campaign, and the Cardinals have decided it was for the best to shut him down. St. Louis has been using a six-man rotation lately, so they could either go back to a traditional five-man setup for slide Steven Matz or Michael McGreevy into Lynn's spot.
Sep 17 2024Lynn (7-4) allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings to earn the win over the Pirates on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has looked good over two starts since returning from a knee injury. He's allowed two runs while striking out 12 over 11 innings since his return, and he was able to get the win after the Cardinals gave him some run support Tuesday. The veteran now has a 3.84 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 109:44 K:BB through 117.1 innings across 23 starts. He's projected for a road start at Colorado next week, which could be his last outing of the year if the Cardinals finish the campaign with a six-man rotation.
Sep 11 2024Lynn allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn pitched for the first time since the end of July after missing nearly six weeks with right knee inflammation. He was sharp in his return, throwing 62 of 90 pitches for strikes and limiting the Reds to a Santiago Espinal RBI single in the fourth inning. Lynn has had middling results this year, though he was improving prior to the injury. The 37-year-old is now at a 3.96 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 104:42 K:BB through 111.1 innings over 22 starts this season. Lynn is projected to make his next start at home versus the Pirates.
Sep 6 2024Lynn (knee) is scheduled to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Reds, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 37-year-old threw 80 pitches while giving up five runs over 3.2 innings during a rehab start Sept. 1, and his next game action will come with the big-league club. Lynn landed on the shelf at the end of July due to knee inflammation, but he'll be back with the Cardinals for a few starts down the stretch.
Sep 3 2024Lynn (knee) gave up five earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Memphis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After tossing a pair of live batting practice sessions, Lynn was able to handle a healthy workload in his rehab outing for Memphis, tossing 80 pitches (54 strikes). Though Lynn seems to be fully stretched out and healthy again after landing on the injured list July 31 with right knee inflammation, the Cardinals may want to see a sharper performance from the 37-year-old in the minors before adding him back to the big-league rotation. The Cardinals have already announced their starting pitchers through Sunday, so Lynn seems likely to make another rehab start or throw a simulated game before returning from the IL, perhaps at some point early next week.
Aug 26 2024Lynn (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis either on Sunday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw approximately 75 pitches in a live practice session Monday and is slated for 80-to-85 pitches in his first rehab start. He should be stretched out enough for a return to the big leagues after that, although it does not seem to be a guarantee that he'll rejoin the Cardinals' rotation at that time. Lynn has been out since late July with right knee inflammation.
Aug 20 2024Lynn (knee) threw a session of live batting practice Tuesday and is scheduled for another session Monday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol previously indicated Lynn might be able to return from the injured list following Tuesday's live BP, but the right-hander will need at least one more session before being activated. The 37-year-old threw the equivalent of three innings and should continue building up his workload in the next session before potentially rejoining the rotation later next week.
Aug 17 2024Manager Oli Marmol said Saturday that Lynn (knee) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday and could return to the rotation afterward, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After throwing 35 pitches without feeling pain in his right knee during a bullpen session Friday, Lynn was cleared to face batters. Assuming all goes well with Tuesday's live session, Lynn could supplant Andre Pallante in the rotation as soon as Friday's series opener against the Twins. Lynn hasn't pitched for St. Louis since July 30 due to inflammation in his right knee. In three starts prior to sustaining the injury, Lynn allowed three runs with 11 strikeouts across 16 innings.
Aug 12 2024Lynn (knee) will throw another bullpen session Friday or Saturday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn completed Monday's session without issue, hurling around 20 pitches at 75 percent effort, per Denton. The team will take the next few days to ensure he's feeling strong before sending him out for another throwing session later in the week. A timetable for Lynn's return is not yet set in stone, but if all goes well during his next bullpen, he'll likely be sent out to make a rehab start or two before being activated from the 15-day injured list.
Aug 1 2024Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Lynn (knee) had imaging come back clean, and the right-hander will be shut down for a couple days after receiving an injection, Jim Hayes of Bally Sports Midwest reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 37-year-old landed on the shelf Wednesday due to right knee inflammation, and that initial diagnosis has been confirmed after being evaluated further. Assuming Lynn is able to quickly return to throwing, his stint on the injured list may not end up being much longer than the 15-day minumum.
Jul 31 2024The Cardinals placed Lynn on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right knee inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has apparently been dealing with the knee issue for a couple starts and was seen limping around the clubhouse after Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Rangers. He'll be eligible to return from the IL in mid-August and has a shot to be ready around that time, as the team believes a little rest will help. The newly acquired Erick Fedde will slide into Lynn's rotation spot, and Andre Pallante will also remain in the rotation for the time being.
Jul 23 2024Lynn allowed four hits and three walks over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Pirates. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It didn't come easy for Lynn on Tuesday -- the veteran right-hander had to work out of a pair of bases-loaded jams. Still, Lynn would make it through five innings unscathed in an eventual 2-1 Cardinals victory. The 37-year-old Lynn was tagged for 10 earned runs on July 6 against the Nationals, though he's now held opponents to two runs or fewer in four of his last five outings. Overall, Lynn is 5-4 on the year with a 4.17 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 94:40 K:BB across 101.1 innings. He's currently in line for a home matchup with the Rangers early next week in his next start.
Jul 13 2024Lynn (5-4) picked up the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cardinals struck for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, letting Lynn cruise to his sixth quality start of the season on 99 pitches (68 strikes). The veteran right-hander is closing in on an impressive milestone, as he sits two strikeouts away from 2,000 for his career, a mark only five other active pitchers -- Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Chris Sale and Gerrit Cole -- have reached. Lynn's won three of his last four starts, but the fourth was an ugly outing July 6 against the Nationals in which he got tagged for 11 runs (10 earned) in 2.2 innings. He'll take a 4.39 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 92:37 K:BB through 96.1 innings into the All-Star break.
Jul 7 2024Lynn (4-4) took the loss Saturday, surrendering 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and four walks over 2.2 innings as the Cardinals were routed 14-6 by the Nationals. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander goes into the record books as the pitcher who served up the first career home run by James Wood, and Lynn also got taken deep by CJ Abrams and Keibert Ruiz before getting a merciful hook. Lynn had been doing a better job of keeping the ball in the park prior to Saturday, and through 90.1 innings this season he's allowed 13 long balls -- a big improvement on the league-worst 44 he coughed up in 2023 over 183.2 IP. Lynn will take a 4.48 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 86:35 K:BB into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Cubs.
Jun 30 2024Lynn (4-3) allowed two hits and a walk over six shutout frames Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn faced little pushback as he sliced through the Reds' lineup. He generated a season-high 17 whiffs, including 14 with his four-seam fastball. It was his second straight win after going 0-1 in his previous five starts. Lynn dropped his season ERA to 3.59 alongside an 84:31 K:BB through 17 starts this season. His next outing is projected to be in Washington.
Jun 25 2024Lynn (3-3) allowed a run on four hits over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out five and earning a win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn turned in four shutout frames before coughing up a solo homer to Austin Riley in the fifth inning, but he was otherwise nearly untouchable. It was a much-needed rebound for Lynn, as he registered an unsightly 7.90 ERA over 13.2 innings in his previous three outings. He earned his first win since May 21 with his longest outing since April 16, lowering his season ERA to 3.86 with a 78:30 K:BB through 16 starts. Lynn's next outing lines up for this coming weekend at home against the Reds.
Jun 19 2024Lynn came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins, coughing up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander got taken deep by Jesus Sanchez and Christian Bethancourt, the first time Lynn had served up multiple homers in an outing since April 4. He managed to complete five innings Tuesday for the first time in June, and on the month he's stumbled to a 6.11 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB through 17.2 innings over four starts. Lynn will look to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against Atlanta.
Jun 13 2024Lynn came away with a no-decision Thursday, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in a 4-3 win versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn cruised through the first four innings, allowing only three baserunners to reach before he hit a wall in the fifth. He departed with the bases loaded in the fifth, and all three baserunners would come around to score. The veteran righty has struggled going deep into games of late, as this was his third straight start of less than five frames. The 37-year-old will take a 3.75 ERA through 14 starts into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for early next week against the Marlins.
Jun 7 2024Lynn did not factor into the decision in Friday's 8-5 win over the Rockies, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn entered this start on a roll, tossing a 0.56 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 16 innings in his last three starts, but couldn't control a shaky Colorado lineup. This marks the fifth time the 37-year-old veteran has allowed four earned runs in an outing this year. His ERA now stands at 3.58 with a 1.38 WHIP in 65.1 innings. Lynn is scheduled to make his next start at home against Pittsburgh.
Jun 2 2024Lynn gave up four runs, all unearned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An error by the usually sure-handed Masyn Winn in the second inning ultimately allowed two runs to score. In the fifth, Lynn and catcher Ivan Herrera each committed an error as well, allowing the Phillies to generate another two runs. Since the Cardinals' defense let him down, Lynn will avoid any damage on his ERA, which is now at 3.23 on the year after this short outing. He's allowed at least four runs in four of his last six starts, which is the more concerning issue at hand. Lynn also has a poor 1.34 WHIP and 57:25 K:BB through 61.1 innings. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies.
May 27 2024Lynn (2-3) allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three runs against Lynn came in the first two innings but he was able to settle in to deliver a quality start. He's thrown six frames in each of his last two outings after failing to do so in his previous five starts. The veteran righty is 1-3 with a 4.39 ERA over his last five appearances. On the year, Lynn owns a 53:23 K:BB and a 3.45 ERA through 57.1 innings. His next start is expected to be in Philadelphia.
May 21 2024Lynn allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings versus the Orioles on Tuesday before the game was suspended due to inclement weather in the sixth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game will be completed prior to Wednesday's regularly-scheduled contest, though Lynn's involvement is almost certainly done. This was arguably his best outing of the season, and it's impressive he did it against an offense as strong as Baltimore. Through 51.1 innings over 10 starts, Lynn has a 3.68 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB. The veteran right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Reds.
May 16 2024Lynn (1-2) took the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five over five frames. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn got off to about as poor of a start as he could have asked for, surrendering a leadoff homer to Nolan Schanuel to open the game and failing to retire four of the first five batters he faced. All four runs surrendered by Lynn came in the first inning, though he would actually allow the first two batters to reach in the second as well, before working his way out of the jam. The veteran right-hander has now allowed four earned runs in three consecutive starts and has not made it through six innings since April 16 against the Athletics, which is a span of five starts.
May 10 2024Lynn (1-1) took the loss Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against Milwaukee. He had five strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn cruised through the Brewers order once -- going nine up, nine down in his first three innings. However, the wheels fell off in the fifth inning as the 36-year-old labored through two outs before receiving the hook. Matthew Liberatore provided no help as he allowed both inherited runners from Lynn to score. Lynn has struggled over his past four starts, pitching to the tune of a 5.49 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 19:11 K:BB over 19.2 innings. He looks to bounce back in his next start on the road against the Angels.
May 4 2024Lynn came away with a no-decision Saturday, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks over five-plus innings in a 6-5 extra-inning loss to the White Sox. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Facing the team he spent two-plus seasons with before getting dealt to the Dodgers last July, Lynn struggled to find the strike zone on a rainy day and exited the game after 94 pitches (53 strikes). The veteran right-hander has worked at least five innings in five straight outings, and this was the first time in 2024 he's been tagged for more than four runs. Lynn will take a 3.28 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB through 35.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come next week in Milwaukee.
Apr 28 2024Lynn didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn walked at least three batters for the third time in his last four starts. However, the only run charged against him came on a solo home run by Francisco Lindor in the sixth. During his last four appearances, Lynn owns a 2.05 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 11 walks over 22.0 innings. He's lined up for a start against the White Sox on Saturday.
Apr 22 2024Lynn allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out seven in the win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn coughed up a pair of runs in the second inning and one more in the fifth. Despite producing only one quality start through five outings, he's sporting a strong 2.81 ERA through 25.2 frames. Lynn produced 12 whiffs Monday, including eight with the fastball. The veteran righty will carry a 26:10 K:BB into his next start, which is lined up to be on the road against the Mets this weekend.
Apr 17 2024Lynn (1-0) got the win over the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out one over seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn secured his first win as a member of the Cardinals since 2017, with the only damage against him being a fifth-inning solo home run from Kyle McCann. Tuesday marked just the second time in Lynn's lengthy career he picked up a win while striking out one batter or zero. He's allowed one earned run or fewer in three of four starts and currently owns a 2.18 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB in 20.2 innings. Lynn projects to take the mound again next week in a home start against the Diamondbacks.
Apr 10 2024Lynn didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and four walks over five innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, Lynn held the Phillies without a hit over his final four frames, though the Cardinals ultimately couldn't provide enough run support off Aaron Nola to get Lynn a victory. The veteran right-hander has yet to pitch into the sixth inning through three starts this season, though he's held opponents to four earned runs in his first 13.2 innings while striking out 18. Lynn's currently in line to face the A's on the road in his next outing.
Apr 4 2024Lynn did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings versus the Marlins. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was sharp early, blanking Miami through his first three innings. However, he'd give up a leadoff home run to Jake Burger in the fourth before Josh Bell and Burger tacked on three more runs with back-to-back blasts in the fifth. Lynn struggled with the long ball last year, allowing a league-most 44 homers while struggling to a 5.73 ERA across 32 starts between the Dodgers and White Sox. The veteran right-hander has given up four runs on 12 hits through 8.2 innings in his first two starts this season.
Mar 31 2024Lynn didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Dodgers, finishing with five strikeouts while allowing four hits and one walks over four scoreless frames. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn looked like he could be in for a long night when Los Angeles began the game by lacing three straight singles off him, but the veteran hurler bounced back by striking out Will Smith, Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez to escape the jam. The Dodgers put two more runners on base with one out in the second frame, but Lynn again got outs under pressure to emerge unscathed. The right-hander retired the final eight batters he faced but had his momentum stopped by a rain delay, and he didn't return to the mound after the interruption, having already thrown 70 pitches. Though Lynn certainly had some troubles Saturday, this was a positive season debut given the outcome, and it helps instill some hope that he can bounce back from last year's rough campaign during which he posted a career-worst 5.73 ERA.
Mar 2 2024Lynn is penciled in to make his Grapefruit League debut Friday versus the Nationals, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been working on the back fields so far, giving the Cardinals an opportunity to evaluate other pitchers in spring games. Lynn will don the Cardinals' jersey for the first time since 2017 after signing a one-year deal with the team in November. The right-hander endured the worst season of his career in 2023, posting a 5.73 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 44 home runs allowed over 183.2 innings between the White Sox and the Dodgers. He'll play most of 2024 at age 37, so it's unclear how much he'll be able to bounce back, though he'll at least have his home games in a pitcher-friendly stadium.
Nov 20 2023The Cardinals signed Lynn to a one-year, $10 million contract with a $12 million club option for 2025 on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn could net as much as $13 million in 2024 if he hits his contract incentives, and there's a $1 million buyout on his 2025 option. It's a homecoming for the burly right-hander, as Lynn was drafted by the Cardinals and spent his first six major-league seasons in St. Louis. The 36-year-old finished the 2023 season with a 5.73 ERA over 32 starts and yielded a whopping 44 home runs, but he also had a 191:67 K:BB over 183.2 frames. The Cardinals will be hoping the home run ball becomes less of an issue at spacious Busch Stadium.
Nov 3 2023The Dodgers declined Lynn's $18 million option for 2024, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn will receive a $1 million buyout instead and is now a free agent. Ardaya notes that it's still possible the Dodgers wind up re-signing Lynn, but they would do so at a lower salary. The big right-hander posted a 5.73 ERA and 191:67 K:BB over 183.2 innings in 2023, serving up a league-high 44 home runs in the process. Lynn should still have a decent market this winter from clubs viewing him as a bounce-back candidate -- from 2019 through 2022, the 36-year-old delivered a 3.42 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 10.01 K/9 over 571 innings.
Oct 9 2023Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Lynn is a "safe bet" to start Game 3 of the NLDS versus the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ryan Pepiot will also pitch, perhaps in a piggyback-type situation, but Lynn will take the hill first for the Dodgers. The burly right-hander was inconsistent for the Dodgers after coming over at the trade deadline but did finish with quality starts in three of his last four outings.
Oct 5 2023Lynn (bereavement list) threw four innings in a sim game Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Dave Roberts noted that the earliest Lynn could pitch in the NLDS against Arizona would be Game 3, but he didn't commit to using Lynn as a starter. Gavin Stone also threw a sim game Thursday, though Ryan Pepiot would be the likeliest candidate to take the ball if Lynn were passed over.
Sep 30 2023The Dodgers placed Lynn on the bereavement list Saturday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn will be held out for three-to-seven games as he tend to more important matters. Victor Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill Lynn's roster spot.
Sep 29 2023Lynn (13-11) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win over the Giants on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn struggled in the first inning and allowed an RBI single to Wilmer Flores, who also had a solo home run in the third. Those were the only two hits Lynn gave up as he earned his third quality start in five outings this month. He won three of his last four starts and closes the regular season with a 5.73 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 191:67 K:BB over 183.2 innings across 32 starts between the Dodgers and the White Sox. His ERA was a more reasonable 4.36 with Los Angeles, which should be enough to earn him a spot in the team's playoff rotation during the NLDS.
Sep 24 2023Lynn allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision over the Giants on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Lynn's third straight win, and his second quality start in his last five outings. He limited the damage to a two-run home run by LaMonte Wade in the fifth inning. Lynn is at a 5.83 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 187:63 K:BB through 177.2 innings over 31 starts between the Dodgers and the White Sox this year. He's projected for a road rematch with the Giants to finish his regular season, and he'll likely be in the Dodgers' postseason rotation.
Sep 18 2023Lynn (12-11) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Tigers on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn gave up a three-run home run to Jake Rogers in the fifth inning, but that was the extent of the damage. While he's given up 10 homers over his last five starts, Lynn has won three of those outings. He's at a 5.92 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 181:60 K:BB through 171.2 innings over 30 starts between the Dodgers and the White Sox this season. The right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Giants over the weekend.
Sep 12 2023Lynn (11-11) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw 111 pitches (64 strikes) in a strong start, bouncing back from allowing 15 runs over nine innings across his previous two outings. He still gave up one home run, a solo shot to Fernando Tatis in the fifth inning, but the Dodgers were already firmly in control of the game. Lynn's allowed 41 homers this season, the most in the majors. He's at a 5.94 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 175:58 K:BB through 166.2 innings over 29 starts, though he's been marginally better with a 4.60 ERA over eight outings with the Dodgers. The veteran is projected for a favorable home start versus the Tigers early next week.
Sep 7 2023Lynn (10-11) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up eight runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 4.2 innings as the Dodgers fell 11-4 to the Marlins. He struck out only one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a run of four straight strong outings following his acquisition by Los Angeles, Lynn has reverted back to being the homer-prone disaster he was with the White Sox to begin the season. Over his last three starts, the veteran right-hander has been taken deep eight times in 15 innings, leaving him with a 4.95 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB through 40 frames as a Dodger. Lynn is also the first pitcher to get tagged for at least 40 homers in a season since Mike Leake in 2019, and at his current pace the major-league record of 50, set by Bert Blyleven in 1986, might even be within reach. The team could shuffle its rotation around in the absence of Julio Urias (administrative leave), but if Lynn stays on turn, his next start would come at home against the Padres early next week.
Aug 31 2023Lynn (10-10) took the loss against Atlanta on Thursday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 4.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers gave Lynn a one-run lead after one frame, but the right-hander quickly gave that back -- and much more -- in the second. In that inning, Ronald Acuna tagged Lynn for a grand slam in what ended as a six-run outburst for Atlanta. The veteran hurler gave up just one more run the rest of the way, but he couldn't escape taking the loss despite a valiant Dodgers comeback that fell just short. This was the first defeat for Lynn since joining Los Angeles at the trade deadline, and it was also his shortest outing over six starts in Dodger blue. He's posted a 3.57 ERA and 27:8 K:BB across 35.1 innings during that stretch.
Aug 25 2023Lynn (10-9) yielded four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and a walk over six-plus innings Friday, striking out one and earning a win against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was tagged with three runs in the first two innings but his offense was able to pick him up later in the contest. While it was his worst outing since being acquired by the Dodgers, he's now 4-0 with a 1.70 ERA in five starts with his new team. For the season, Lynn owns a 5.56 ERA with a 170:51 K:BB through 150.2 frames. He's currently lined up for a home tilt with Atlanta next week.
Aug 17 2023Lynn pitched seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Lynn finished without a win for the first time in four starts since joining Los Angeles in late July, the right-hander enjoyed arguably his best performance in Dodger Blue, going toe-to-toe with Corbin Burnes for seven scoreless innings and allowing just five baserunners. Lynn didn't rack up strikeouts as he did in his previous three starts, when he tallied 22 punchouts over 18 frames, but Milwaukee didn't manage to notch an extra-base hit against him. The veteran has appeared rejuvenated since joining Los Angeles, bringing back memories of his third-place finish in AL Cy Young award voting in 2021. Fantasy managers who dropped him during his rough tenure with the White Sox earlier this season are largely ruing that decision now.
Aug 11 2023Lynn (9-9) allowed an unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn worked his pitch count up quickly, throwing 94 pitches (62 strikes) over his five frames, but it was solid work. He's pitched to a 2.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB over 18 innings across his three starts with the Dodgers, a vast improvement on his 5.88 ERA for the year. Lynn's next outing is projected to be a home start versus the Brewers next week.
Aug 6 2023Lynn (8-9) allowed one run on four hits and two walks over six innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn faced little trouble while tossing a quality start Sunday. In two outings since being traded to the Dodgers, he's gone 2-0 with a 13:3 K:BB. He's also lowered his season ERA from 6.47 to 6.11 in the process. Lynn coughed up 17 earned runs in just 16.2 frames over his last three starts with the White Sox prior to the trade. His next appearance is lined up to be at home against the Rockies.
Aug 1 2023Lynn (7-9) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over seven innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn completed seven frames for the fourth time this year, earning himself a quality start in his Dodgers debut. He'd given up 20 runs (17 earned) over his last 16.2 innings with the White Sox prior to getting traded out west. Lynn is at a 6.32 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 151:46 K:BB through 126.2 innings over 22 starts this season. He's lined up for a road start in San Diego over the weekend.
Jul 30 2023Lynn will make his first start with the Dodgers on Tuesday versus the Athletics in Los Angeles, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll be taking a 6.47 ERA and 1.46 WHIP into his Dodgers debut, Lynn could be worth activating in the majority of leagues with weekly lineups. After drawing the home matchup with one of baseball's worst teams, Lynn will tentatively line up for a second start next Sunday in San Diego. Even with the unsightly ERA and WHIP during his time with the White Sox, Lynn wasn't a total zero for fantasy mangers this season, as he's currently holding down a career-best 10.8 K/9 that's backed by a career-high 13.9 percent swinging-strike rate.
Jul 28 2023The Dodgers are close to an agreement to acquire Lynn and Joe Kelly from the White Sox, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There's no word yet on what the White Sox will be receiving in return, but it sounds like Lynn is willing to waive his no-trade clause and this thing will get done. Lynn has posted an unsightly 6.47 ERA and 1.46 WHIP this season but also a 144:45 K:BB through 119.2 innings over 21 starts. Given the Dodgers' excellent reputation with pitching, it could be just what he needs to rehab his fantasy value.
Jul 28 2023The White Sox traded Lynn to the Dodgers alongside Joe Kelly on Friday in exchange for Trayce Thompson (oblique), Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn hasn't exactly been at his best this season, holding a 6.47 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 119.2 frames. However, the Dodgers have developed a reputation for rejuvenating pitchers' careers, so it's not ridiculous to think Lynn could return to his old form with his new team.
Jul 26 2023Lynn allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been tagged for 20 runs (17 earned) over 16.2 innings since the All-Star break, continuing a season that's had far more downs than ups. The 36-year-old right-hander was off to a decent start aside from a difficult second inning, but he completely unraveled as the Cubs rallied for six runs -- five charged to him -- in the fifth. Lynn is now at a 6.47 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 144:45 K:BB through 119.2 innings over 21 starts. He remains a potential trade target, but it's unclear if any interest will turn into an offer for a pitcher enduring his worst major-league season. If he remains with the White Sox, Lynn is tentatively scheduled for a road start versus the Rangers next week.
Jul 22 2023Lynn (6-9) yielded nine runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks over 6.2 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was taken deep four times, including twice during Minnesota's five-run opening frame. He's allowed 16 home runs over his last nine starts while raising his season ERA to 6.18. Lynn has now been charged with at least four runs in 12 of his 20 starts this year. The veteran righty has been the subject of trade rumors, but he hasn't been of much use to fantasy managers outside of the occasional dominant performance. Lynn's next start is currently lined up to be at home against the Guardians.
Jul 15 2023Lynn (6-8) earned the win over Atlanta on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn gave up a pair of homers and needed 97 pitches to get through 5.1 frames, but he got just enough run support to pick up the win. The right-hander was coming off a one-hit, 11-strikeout, seven-inning gem in his final start before the All-Star break, and while Saturday's performance was certainly not at that level, it's promising that he was at least able to depart with the lead against one of the league's top offenses. Lynn's season ERA remains unappealing at 6.06, but he's racked up at least six punchouts in each of his past six starts and has shown some improvement with a 4.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 53:11 K:BB across 36 innings over that stretch.
Jul 6 2023Lynn did not factor in the decision in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against Toronto, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out 11 batters over seven scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn and Toronto starter Jose Berrios dueled head-to-head for seven innings, with each pitcher allowing just one hit and no runs. Lynn was the more dominant of the pair, racking up an astounding 25 swinging strikes and tallying 11 punchouts. However, his ability to miss bats also played a part in driving up his pitch count to 102, and he had to exit with a no-decision to show for his efforts. Lynn has taken his fantasy managers on a roller-coaster ride this season -- he's tallied 10 or more strikeouts on four occasions (including a 16-punchout effort June 18) but has also given up five-plus runs six different times. Even with Thursday's sterling start, his overall ERA sits at an ugly 6.03, though that comes with the fifth-most strikeouts in the league (127).
Jul 5 2023Lynn won't start Wednesday against the Blue Jays because the game was postponed due to rain, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox and Blue Jays will play a doubleheader Thursday to make up for Wednesday's game, and Lynn figures to pitch in one of the two contests. The 36-year-old righty has struggled heavily this season, accumulating a 6.72 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 96 innings across 17 starts.
Jun 29 2023Lynn (5-8) earned the win Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings against the Angels. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a rough start for Lynn, as he allowed five runs on three homers in his first three innings. However, he'd manage to settle in and hold Anaheim scoreless over his final three frames as the White Sox rallied for a 9-7 win. The victory is Lynn's first since May 26, as he's struggled to a 7.79 ERA over his last six outings. Overall, the veteran right-hander sports a 6.47 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 116:26 K:BB through 17 starts (96 innings) this season. Lynn is lined up to face the Blue Jays at home in his next outing.
Jun 24 2023Lynn did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings against Boston. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn came up one out shy of recording his second consecutive quality start, lasting 5.2 innings and being pulled after allowing a two-run homer to Triston Casas and a double to Christian Arroyo back-to-back. After finishing with six or fewer strikeouts in five straight starts, Lynn has posted strikeout totals of 16 and 7 across his last two appearances. Though the 36-year-old has had a rollercoaster 2023 campaign, his strikeout upside (10+ K's three times) gives him a fantasy ceiling that few other starters can reach.
Jun 22 2023The White Sox reinstated Lynn from the bereavement list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was placed on the bereavement list Monday and now returns in time to make his next scheduled start Saturday against Boston. The 36-year-old righty holds a 6.51 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 102 strikeouts across 84.1 frames this season. Jimmy Lambert was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.
Jun 20 2023The White Sox list Lynn (personal) as their starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was placed on the bereavement list Monday and remains off the White Sox's 26-man active roster for the time being, but he's poised to be reinstated before his next turn through the rotation comes up this weekend. The veteran right-hander dropped to 4-8 on the season in his most recent start in Seattle this past weekend, but he still delivered what might have been one of the finer outings from any pitcher in 2023. He racked up a career-high 16 strikeouts in seven innings and induced an astounding 33 swinging strikes on his 114 pitches.
Jun 19 2023The White Sox placed Lynn on the bereavement list Monday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was deactivated one day after posting a career-best 16-strikeout game against the Mariners. Per MLB rules, players have to spent at least three days and no more than seven days on the bereavement list, so Lynn could be ready to pitch the next time his turn in the rotation comes up this weekend versus the Red Sox. Even after his stellar outing Sunday, Lynn still holds a 6.51 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 15 starts this season.
Jun 18 2023Lynn (4-8) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over seven-plus innings Sunday, striking out 16 and taking a loss against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn turned in his most impressive outing of the year, striking out 16 batters, the most of any pitcher in a single game this season, but still took his third straight loss. He forced an unbelievable 33 whiffs on 114 pitches while recording his third double-digit strikeout performance of the year. The veteran righty lowered his ERA to 6.51 with a 102:33 K:BB through 84.1 frames this season. Lynn's next outing is currently lined up to be at home against Boston.
Jun 13 2023Lynn (4-7) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers did their damage early, as Will Smith and David Peralta each took Lynn deep in the first inning. It's another stumble in a season full of them for Lynn -- he's allowed at least four runs in nine of his 14 starts. He's pitched to an ugly 6.75 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 86:31 K:BB over 77.1 innings this season. Lynn's projected for a road start in Seattle this weekend.
Jun 8 2023Lynn allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Half of the eight hits Lynn allowed in the outing went for extra bases, including a fourth-inning homer off the bat of Willie Calhoun. This was the fifth time in 13 starts the right-hander has given up at least five runs, which has resulted in an unsightly 6.72 ERA. Lynn had appeared to be putting things together during a three-start stretch between May 16 and May 26 during which he went 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 19 innings, but he's since regressed by allowing 13 runs over nine frames in his past two outings. The veteran had finished a season with an ERA over 4.00 just once over 11 big-league campaigns coming into 2023, but it would take a drastic turnaround him for to get below that mark over the remainder of the current season.
Jun 7 2023Lynn won't start Wednesday's against the Yankees after the game was postponed due to poor air quality in New York on account of smoke. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn will instead get the ball for the first half of Thursday's doubleheader in The Bronx, assuming the hazardous air from Canadian wildfires dissipates to the point where both games can be played. The 36-year-old righty gave up eight earned runs on eight hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches in his last turn through the White Sox rotation May 31 versus the Angels as his season ERA climbed to 6.55.
May 31 2023Lynn (4-6) took the loss Wednesday, allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks over 4 innings against the Angels. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn gave up three home runs in the losing effort, including a pair of two-run shots to Shohei Ohtani. The 36-year-old Lynn had been pitching better coming into Wednesday's outing, logging three consecutive quality starts with a 1.89 ERA in that span. His ERA is now up to 6.55 with a 1.51 WHIP and 76:26 K:BB through 12 starts (67.1 innings) this season. Lynn will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently lined up for next week against the Yankees.
May 27 2023Lynn (4-5) earned the win Friday, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and five walks across six innings during a 12-3 victory over the Tigers. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite allowing a season-high five walks, Lynn completed his third straight quality start Friday after tossing just one over his first eight appearances. The veteran's 5.83 ERA still appears rough, but he's allowed just four earned runs over his past 19 innings and still boasts an elite 72:24 K:BB across 11 outings (63.1 innings). Lynn will look to stay hot in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for the finale of a three-game set versus the Angels.
May 21 2023Lynn (3-5) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Royals. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn picked up his third win in his last four appearances Sunday and appears to be turning the corner after starting the campaign 0-4 with a 7.16 ERA in his first six starts (32.2 innings). His lone blemish Sunday came on a two-run homer from Michael Massey in the second inning. Though Lynn's run prevention has been up and down throughout 2023, he has been one of the best strikeout producers in MLB with a 10.5 K/9 that ranks 16th among starters.
May 16 2023Lynn (2-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings against Cleveland. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn secured his second quality start of the season Tuesday, his first since April 11, while righting the ship after taking a loss in four of his last five starts. The veteran righty got off to a blazing start, retiring each of the first 11 batters and holding the Guardians scoreless until the sixth frame. Though Lynn owns a 6.66 ERA and a 1.94 HR/9, his one saving grace has been his swing-and-miss stuff, with a 10.69 K/9. After finishing with an ERA above 4.00 once in his first 11 years in the bigs, Lynn is on pace to finish above that mark in 2023 but could be in line for some positive regression considering his 61.8 percent left on base percentage and xERA and xFIP values significantly lower than his actual numbers.
May 11 2023Lynn (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Royals, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn started off by allowing four runs in the opening frame after the Royals tallied six hits against him. He wound up surrendering a pair of home runs as well. The 36-year-old has been nothing short of a disappointment this season and has given up at least four runs in each of his last five starts. Lynn's 7.51 ERA is the worst among all qualified pitchers and his 1.60 ERA is sitting at sixth worst in MLB. He'll look to rebound in a projected start against the Guardians at home next week.
May 6 2023Lynn (1-4) picked up the win in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Reds, giving up four runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander pounded the strike zone, firing 74 of 103 pitches for strikes while generated 19 swinging strikes, and he got just enough run support to get into the win column for the first time this year. Lynn also served up another homer, his ninth in 39.1 innings, and that remains the biggest obstacle between him and turning his season around. He'll take a 6.86 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 50:15 K:BB into his next start, likely to come next week in Kansas City.
Apr 29 2023Lynn (0-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings against the Rays. He struck out 10. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was working on a no hitter through six innings. Then the seventh inning started with a Wander Franco home run and ended with 10 Tampa Bay runs coming across the plate. Lynn was lifted after four of the first five batters of the inning reached. All four scored, costing Lynn a quality start. The 35-year-old has had a disastrous start to 2023 with a 7.16 ERA through six starts.
Apr 6 2023Lynn (0-1) allowed eight earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out five across 4.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn allowed multiple runs in three of the five innings he pitched, and he served up three homers in the disastrous outing. The only positive to be taken from the start is that he was throwing at nearly exactly his typical velocity, so it doesn't appear that he's dealing with any type of injury. Even though his first outing of the season was more successful, Lynn has walked seven batters across his first 10 frames of work in the new campaign.
Mar 31 2023Lynn yielded two runs on three hits and four walks across 5.2 innings in Friday's loss to Houston. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right worked five shutout frames before his day was ended by Kyle Tucker's two-run shot in the sixth. Lynn forced 16 whiffs on 96 total pitches (55 strikes). He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning but otherwise didn't have much trouble until serving up the homer. Lynn is expected to start at home against the Giants next week.
Mar 25 2023Lynn allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn took the mound for the first time since returning from the World Baseball Classic. He was hit around initially but closed the outing with three shutout innings while retiring 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. Lynn is expected to start Chicago's second game of the regular season Friday against the Astros, and he should be able to work fairly deep into the game after facing 21 batters in his spring training finale.
Feb 25 2023Lynn allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out four across three innings in Saturday's Cactus League matchup against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn allowed three consecutive singles to begin the game, but he settled in from there and did not allow any additional baserunners during his outing. Though he faced a watered-down version of the Padres' lineup, it was still an encouraging opening start of spring training. Lynn will be looking to bounce back from a relatively disappointing 2022 campaign when he posted a 3.99 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 121.2 frames.
Feb 23 2023Lynn will start for the White Sox in their Cactus League opener against the Padres on Saturday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Lynn is set to pitch the first three innings for Chicago, although that could change based on how he feels during the game. The 35-year-old veteran is coming off a season in which he logged a 3.99 ERA -- a significant drop-off from his All-Star campaign in 2021 (2.69).
Oct 2 2022Lynn (8-7) earned the win during Sunday's 2-1 victory over San Diego, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn faced minor threats in the second and fourth innings but was able to keep San Diego off the board until the seventh, when Ha-Seong Kim tagged him for a solo shot, and departed in line for his eighth win. The 35-year-old finished the campaign strong with a 2.43 ERA in 74 innings across his final 12 starts after submitting a subpar 6.42 mark through his first nine turns of the season. He concludes 2022 with a 3.99 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 124 strikeouts in 121.2 innings across 21 starts.
Sep 27 2022Lynn (7-7) got the loss after he pitched five innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits and a walk while hitting a batter and striking out three Tuesday versus the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn struggled to keep the Twins off the bases Tuesday, allowing at least double-digit baserunners for the second game in a row. He surrendered one run in both of the second and third frames before a Matt Wallner two-run homer knocked Lynn out of the contest with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The difficult outing ended a streak of six consecutive quality starts for the 35-year-old. Lynn is currently projected to toe the rubber for the last time in 2022 on Sunday against the Padres.
Sep 21 2022Lynn (7-6) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits and one walk over six innings in a 8-2 loss against the Guardians. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn fell victim to small ball and errors in this performance but did surrender a solo homer to outfielder Steven Kwan to lead off the fourth inning. The righty had been phenomenal in his last seven starts prior to this one, recording a 1.43 ERA and 0.77 WHIP over 44 innings. In addition, the 35-year-old has pitched six innings or more in nine of his last 10 outings.
Sep 15 2022Lynn (7-5) allowed two earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six across 6.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was aided by plenty of run support and got little resistance from the Cleveland offense to earn his seventh win of the season. He's now turned in five consecutive quality starts and has allowed only four earned runs across 32.1 innings in that span while posting a 38:4 K:BB. After a disastrous start to the campaign, Lynn has a 3.99 ERA in 103.2 total frames.
Sep 11 2022Lynn (6-5) earned the win against Oakland on Saturday, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits while striking out five and walking one over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was impressive Saturday, tossing 72 of 107 pitches for strikes across six frames. Though two runs crossed the plate for the Athletics, Lynn was not credited with them as one was scored on a sac fly and the other was scored on a fielder's choice. Saturday's outing marks four quality starts in a row for the veteran righty and six in his last eight starts. During that span, he has picked up five wins to just one loss and lowered his ERA from 5.87 to where it sits now at 4.07.
Sep 5 2022Lynn (5-5) earned the win over Seattle on Monday, allowing an unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters over seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn racked up an impressive 25 swinging strikes in the victory, the most he has recorded as a member of the White Sox, per James Fegan of The Athletic. The right-hander also threw a first-pitch strike to 19 of the 25 batters he faced and notched double-digit punchouts for the first time this season. He got off to a poor start this season, but Lynn has registered an incredible 73:5 K:BB and posted a 2.98 ERA over 60.1 innings since July 16.
Aug 31 2022Lynn (4-5) allowed one run on four hits and a hit batter while striking out eight over seven innings to earn the win over the Royals on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn didn't miss a turn through the rotation during his time on the bereavement list. The right-hander returned with his fourth quality start in six outings in August. Across 36.2 innings for the month, he allowed just 11 runs (10 earned) while striking out 42 and walking just three. The strong month lowered his season ERA to 4.70 with a 11.4 WHIP and 91:13 K:BB through 84.1 innings across 15 starts overall. Lynn is projected for a road start in Seattle next week.
Aug 27 2022Lynn was placed on the bereavement list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Players may spend between three and seven days on the bereavement list. Lynn last pitched Thursday, so he's expected to make his next start next week against the Royals, per James Fegan of The Athletic.
Aug 25 2022Lynn did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn allowed a two-run homer from outfielder Anthony Santander in the first inning but was otherwise without blemishes. The righty has enjoyed a solid stretch in his last seven starts, turning in a 3.13 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 37.1 innings. The 35-year-old veteran has pitched six innings in five of his last seven starts.
Aug 19 2022Lynn allowed one run on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in Friday's loss to Cleveland. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn cruised through five shutout frames before he coughed up a solo shot to Jose Ramirez in the sixth. The 35-year-old righty had completed at least six innings in his previous three starts but he still managed to lower his season ERA to 5.30. Lynn gave up 18 home runs through 157 frames last season but he's already been taken deep 14 times through 71.1 innings in 2022. He's lined up to take the mound in Baltimore next week.
Aug 14 2022Lynn (3-5) earned the victory Sunday over Detroit, striking out seven in six innings while allowing two runs on five hits. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All the damage against Lynn came in the third inning when three hits and a wild pitch led to two runs. After that he cruised through the last three innings, facing the minimum as he erased the only hit with a double-play. The veteran is beginning to look more and more like himself and has a 3.34 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 34:2 K:BB in 29.2 innings over five starts since the All-Star break. His next start will likely be at the end of the week in Cleveland.
Aug 9 2022Lynn (2-5) was charged with the loss in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Royals after allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He surrendered only two runs through his first five frames, but a two-run home run from Nick Pratto during the sixth inning soured Lynn's outing. The veteran right-hander allowed 14 runs in his final two starts before the All-Star break, but in four outings since he has a 3.43 ERA and 27:2 K:BB across 23.2 frames. Lynn lines up to finish the week with a start versus the Tigers on Sunday.
Aug 4 2022Lynn (2-4) earned the win against the Royals on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight and walking none over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn pitched well Wednesday, throwing 57 of 89 pitches for strikes across six frames and allowing just four baserunners. He limited the damage to one solo shot and did not allow any free passes. The eight strikeouts tied Lynn's single-game high for this season. The veteran righty has struggled to get things going this year, picking up his third quality start in ten games. Opponents have scored four runs or more in half of his starts this season, so this could potentially be a turning point for him. Lynn will take a 5.87 ERA into his next start.
Jul 30 2022Lynn (1-4) gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings to take the loss in a 7-3 defeat against the Athletics on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's 2022 struggles continued on Friday night against the second-lowest-scoring team. The Athletics took Lynn deep for three home runs, including a couple which came on mistake pitches up in the zone. Lynn didn't make his first start of the season until mid-June due to a meniscus tear, and he has yet to find his groove since returning. The 35-year-old veteran starter has only one win this season to go along with a career-worst 6.42 ERA. He is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Royals next week.
Jul 23 2022Lynn allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six in six scoreless innings in a no-decision in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was excellent in his second quality start of the year, but the White Sox's bullpen melted down in the seventh inning to cost him the win. Despite the positive start to the second half, he still owns a 6.43 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB through 42 innings in eight outings. The veteran right-hander is projected for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.
Jul 16 2022Lynn (1-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits over five innings against the Twins. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Twins hit three homers in the first three frames against Lynn -- Luis Arraez, Carlos Correa and Jorge Polanco all went yard. Lynn has not looked anything like himself since returning from surgery to address a tendon tear in his right knee. He now has a 7.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 36 innings this season, with 14 of his 30 earned runs allowed coming in his last two starts (nine innings).
Jul 11 2022Lynn (1-2) allowed eight runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cleveland immediately jumped on Lynn, plating five runs in the first inning. He then turned in a few scoreless frames before coughing up three more runs in the fifth. The veteran righty has been tagged with 13 runs over his last two starts, ballooning his season ERA to 6.97 through 31 frames. Lynn has given up three or more runs in all but one of his six starts in 2022. He'll look for better results in Minnesota this weekend.
Jul 6 2022Lynn allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings Wednesday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn allowed at least one run in three of his five innings, with a two-run blast by Jorge Polanco in the fifth frame clinching another disappointing outing. He has worked at least six frames in each of his last three starts, but Lynn has allowed fewer than three earned runs only once in five appearances this season. As a result, he owns a 5.33 ERA across 27 innings on the campaign.
Jul 1 2022Lynn allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has had mixed results since making his season debut June 13, but Friday's start was an impressive one. The right-hander threw 63 of 104 pitches for strikes and matched Giants starter Alex Cobb the whole way. The White Sox ultimately won 1-0 after scoring in the ninth inning. Lynn has a 4.50 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB through 22 innings in his four starts this year. He still has a 1-1 record, which he'll look to improve upon in a projected home start versus the Twins next week.
Jun 26 2022Lynn (1-1) gave up five earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight over 6.2 innings against the Orioles on Saturday. He was tagged with the loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's struggles continued in his third start since returning from the IL, and he has now given up 11 earned runs over those starts. The silver lining is that Lynn struck out a season-high eight batters and went fairly deep into the game while throwing 109 pitches. Three of his earned runs came in to score on a bases-loaded hit off Jose Ruiz, who was pitching in relief of Lynn in the seventh. Lynn appears to be completely healthy after suffering a meniscus tear during spring training, so there is reason to believe that the 35-year-old veteran will pitch closer to his career norms once he gets more starts under his belt.
Jun 21 2022Lynn (1-0) allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five across five innings to earn the win Monday against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn showed flashes of brilliance, as he struck out the side in the first inning and also retired seven consecutive batters between the third and fifth innings. However, he still surrendered a two-run homer and a two-run double -- both hit by Teoscar Hernandez. Even so, it was a significant step forward for Lynn as he allowed only six baserunners across five innings after allowing 10 hits in his first outing of the campaign. He's also maintained a 9:2 K:BB across 9.1 innings.
Jun 13 2022Lynn (knee) allowed three runs on 10 hits and struck out four in 4.1 innings, taking a no-decision in Monday's 9-5 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers got all three of their runs off Lynn in the first two innings, though he was only a little sharper in allowing three hits in after that point. This was the veteran right-hander's season debut, so a little rust could be expected. He logged a 2.69 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 176:45 K:BB across 157 innings last year, and he's only once posted a season ERA above 4.00 in his career, so there's reason to be optimistic about the 35-year-old going forward. He's projected to make his second start of 2022 at home versus the Blue Jays next week, as the White Sox are expected to roll with a six-man rotation for now.
Jun 12 2022Lynn (knee) will start Monday's game against the Tigers, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was initially trending toward a Tuesday return, but he'll be cleared to make his season debut a day earlier than expected, while Dylan Cease will start Tuesday. Lynn made three rehab starts over the last few weeks and posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 10 innings.
Jun 10 2022Lynn (knee) is expected to start Tuesday against the Tigers, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Previous reports indicated Lynn could return Monday, but there doesn't appear to be any setback behind the minor change of plans. He struggled in his latest rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, giving up seven runs on nine hits in three innings of work, but the White Sox nevertheless seem to think he's ready to make his season debut.
Jun 5 2022Lynn (knee) will make another rehab start Wednesday and could join the big-league rotation at Detroit on June 13 if all goes well, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He built up to 62 pitches in his most recent start and is targeting five innings in this next outing for Triple-A Charlotte. Manager Tony La Russa wouldn't commit to a June 13 return for Lynn but said it was a possibility.
Jun 3 2022Lynn (knee) gave up three runs on four hits and one walk over four innings Friday in a rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He built up to 62 pitches after throwing 39 pitches in his previous outing. According to Gregor, Lynn will require at least one more rehab start before joining the White Sox.
May 29 2022Lynn (knee) threw three scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out three in Sunday's rehab appearance with Triple-A Charlotte. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn pitched well in his first rehab start, and he also threw 39 pitches. He is expected to make two additional appearances with the Knights prior to being activated from the injured list for his season debut with the White Sox. While his potential workload will become clearer, Lynn appears to be in a good position to immediately shoulder a significant workload. He should return by the middle of June if there are no setbacks.
May 25 2022Lynn (knee) said Wednesday he'll begin a rehab assignment this weekend and will make three starts in the minors before joining the White Sox's rotation, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 35-year-old threw about 40 pitches during live batting practice Tuesday, and he's scheduled to throw three innings and 45 pitches in his first rehab outing this weekend. Lynn isn't eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until June 6, and assuming he doesn't suffer a setback during the rehab assignment, he should join Chicago's rotation shortly after being eligible to be activated.
May 24 2022Lynn (knee) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday, Betelhem Ashame of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw an inning of live batting practice Friday and will repeat the exercise Tuesday. Though only a small step, Lynn continues to make progress toward his season debut. He is eligible to come off the injured list June 6, but his return could come later in the month as he will likely need a few rehab outings prior to being activated.
May 18 2022The White Sox transferred Lynn (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even though Lynn has been on the shelf all season after undergoing surgery April 5 to address a tendon tear in his right knee, the White Sox delayed moving him to the 60-day IL with the hope that he might narrowly avoid missing the first two months of the campaign. Chicago finally scrapped those plans Wednesday, with the transaction allowing the team to free up a 40-man roster spot for Lucas Giolito (illness), who was activated from the COVID-19-related IL ahead of his scheduled start against the Royals. Lynn's placement on the 60-day IL shouldn't be viewed as a major setback, as he'll still be eligible to make his 2022 debut as early as June 6. The right-hander is scheduled to face hitters Friday and could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment shortly thereafter.
May 17 2022White Sox manager Tony La Russa said that Lynn (knee) will face hitters Friday during the team's road trip in New York, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Advancing from bullpen sessions to throwing live batting practice marks an important step forward in the recovery process for Lynn, who has been sidelined all season after requiring surgery in early April to address a slight tear in his right knee. The White Sox have thrown out early June as a potential return date, and his continued presence on the 10-day injured list rather than the 60-day IL seemingly supports that optimism. Before the team pinpoints a more precise date for Lynn to make his team debut, he'll likely need to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment and build up his pitch count in one or two outings.
May 14 2022Lynn (knee) is getting close to facing live hitters, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been throwing off a mound for several weeks, and manager Tony La Russa said Saturday that the right-hander is likely one or two bullpen sessions away from facing live hitters. The White Sox remain hopeful that Lynn will be able to return to game action around early June.
May 9 2022Lynn (knee) is targeting a return in early June, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox were initially hopeful that Lynn would be able to return by the end of May, but general manager Rick Hahn said Monday that an early June return is a more realistic possibility. While it still appears that Lynn is making good progress in his recovery, the team seems content in giving him enough time to make sure he's fully healthy before making his 2022 debut.
Apr 13 2022Lynn (knee) resumed playing catch off flat ground Wednesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn noted that he's further along than anticipated in his recovery from the surgery he underwent April 5 to address a tendon tear in his right knee, but the veteran right-hander has several more hurdles to clear in his rehab program before a firmer target date for his return comes into focus. The White Sox aren't counting on him to resume mound work until early May, and from there, Lynn will likely need at least 2-to-3 weeks to build back up from a starting role. For what it's worth, general manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday that he doesn't expect Lynn to make his season debut until early June, per Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago.
Apr 7 2022Lynn (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to April 4. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn isn't expected to resume mound work for approximately four weeks after he underwent knee surgery recently, so his placement on the injured list isn't a surprise. Since the right-hander will need time to build up following his shutdown, he's unlikely to return to game action until at least late May or early June.
Apr 3 2022Lynn has a slight tear in a tendon by his knee and will undergo surgery Tuesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. He's expected to be sidelined for approximately four weeks before resuming mound work. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn exited Saturday's spring game against the Diamondbacks due to right knee discomfort. After being sent in for an MRI, Lynn was recommended to undergo surgery, putting him on track to miss significant time to begin the regular season. The White Sox are hopeful that the right-hander will be able to resume throwing by the end of April or in early May, but because he'll need additional time to build up for starting duty, he could end up being sidelined until late May or sometime in early June. Reynaldo Lopez and Vince Velasquez should be in the mix for the final spot in the White Sox rotation while Lynn is sidelined.
Apr 2 2022Lynn was forced to exit Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks early with right knee discomfort. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, ending the outing having surrendered four earned runs (seven total) on seven hits while striking out four and walking one. With less than a week until Opening Day, Lynn's injury could prove to delay his debut for the 2022 campaign. More information on the injury will likely be provided Sunday.
Oct 7 2021Lynn (0-1) allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings to take the loss in Game 1 of the ALDS on Thursday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn worked through a clean first inning, but he then allowed at least one earned run in each of his next three frames. The result was a five-run deficit for the White Sox and Lynn's shortest outing since June 26. It was also Lynn's first postseason start since 2014, though he may have the chance to rebound in Game 5, if necessary.
Oct 6 2021Lynn will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Astros on Thursday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn made his final start of the regular season Friday and allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings to earn the win against the Tigers. The 34-year-old posted a career-best 2.69 ERA across 28 regular-season starts in 2021, and he'll make his first postseason appearance since 2018 during Thursday's Game 1 matchup.
Oct 1 2021Lynn (11-6) allowed one run on four hits and a walk over five innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn rolled through three scoreless innings before Robbie Grossman tagged him with an RBI double in the fourth. The veteran righty ends his 2021 campaign with a terrific 2.69 ERA and 176:45 K:BB through 157 frames. He allowed two or fewer runs in five of his last seven starts this season.
Sep 26 2021Lynn (10-6) was tagged with the loss Sunday against Cleveland after allowing six runs on seven hits -- including two home runs -- while fanning six across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been hit-or-miss of late; he has given up six or more runs in two of his last four appearances, though at the same time, he's allowed one or fewer runs in four of his last six contests. The veteran hurler owns a 3.86 ERA across 16.1 innings through three starts this month.
Sep 19 2021Lynn (10-5) was tagged with the loss Saturday against Texas, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was very effective in the outing, holding the Rangers without an extra-base hit over 5.1 frames. A fourth-inning infield error contributed to the first run against him, and the second was tallied after he had exited the contest in the sixth. Lynn has completed at least six innings only once over his past six starts, but he has nonetheless held opponents to one or zero earned runs in four of those outings. He'll carry an excellent 2.47 ERA into a road start against Cleveland next week.
Sep 13 2021Lynn allowed just two hits and struck out nine over five innings Sunday against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn pitched for the first time since Aug. 28 after a brief stint on the injured list and showcased some of his best stuff of the season. The 34-year-old did not issue any free passes. He had 13 swings and misses to strike out nine batters, his highest total since July 2. He was pulled after throwing just 70 pitches despite being in a nice groove. Lynn now owns a 2.50 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 161:42 K:BB over 140.2 innings. He lines up for a very favorable matchup against the Rangers next weekend.
Sep 10 2021Lynn (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn is listed as the starter for Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox, but he'll rejoin the active roster a few days ahead of time after he threw a successful bullpen session Friday. The right-hander had been on the injured list since Aug. 28, and he shouldn't have many restrictions Sunday following his brief absence.
Sep 9 2021Lynn (knee) is expected to return from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn hit the injured list at the end of August with right knee inflammation, but reports at the time indicated he'd only miss one start. He'll wind up missing two turns in the rotation, as he last pitched Aug. 28, but he should be back in time to make a handful of appearances down the stretch.
Sep 7 2021Lynn (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn completed a bullpen session Tuesday and will throw at least one more bullpen before potentially rejoining the starting rotation. He was only expected to miss one start after landing on the IL with knee inflammation in late August, but it now appears he'll be out for at least two turns through the rotation. There's a chance the 34-year-old could start Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox, otherwise he should return to action during the three-game set versus the Angels, which begins next Tuesday.
Aug 31 2021Lynn (knee) will only miss one start after being placed on the injured list with right knee inflammation, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Tony La Russa confirmed that Lynn's IL placement was a precautionary move. The righty's ERA has risen from 2.04 to 2.59 after 13 runs in his last 21 innings, but he remains one of the top pitchers in baseball and will be needed at full health if the White Sox are to go far in the postseason.
Aug 28 2021Lynn (10-4) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran hurler surprisingly struggled against a rebuilding Cubs offense, as he gave up season highs with seven runs and three homers. Patrick Wisdom took him deep twice in the contest, and Rafael Ortega delivered a big blow with a fourth-inning grand slam. Lynn did manage to strike out seven batters after totaling only four punchouts in each of his previous two starts, but it was nonetheless a disappointing effort from the American League Cy Young candidate. He'll look for a better result in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at Kansas City next weekend.
Aug 24 2021Lynn didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander was sharp and efficient, tossing 52 of 86 pitches for strikes before handing things over to the bullpen in a 1-1 game. Lynn has 13 quality starts on the season, including four in seven outings since the All-Star break, and he sports a stellar 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 145:40 K:BB through 130.2 innings.
Aug 19 2021Lynn was ejected after the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 win over Oakland. He did not factor into the decision after permitting one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As Lynn described the ejection, the first of his MLB career, to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, third-base umpire Nic Lentz was late coming to check the pitcher's glove and hat for foreign substances, so Lynn left both items on the field while he entered the dugout to see trainers. The umpire called for Lynn's belt, too, and the right-hander tossed it out on the field, which was apparently the trigger for the ejection. Lynn was at 88 pitches through four innings after escaping jams in the first and third innings. He's next expected to pitch Monday on the road in Toronto.
Aug 12 2021Lynn allowed four runs on four hits and a pair of walks over five innings Thursday against the Yankees, striking out seven. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: New York did its biggest chunk of damage off Lynn in the third inning, when Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Brett Gardner also took Lynn deep in the sixth, the first time in almost two months that Lynn has allowed more than one homer in a start. It was also just the second time in 21 starts this season that an opponent has managed to put together more than three runs against Lynn. The 34-year-old is 10-3 on the year with a 2.26 ERA and 137:37 K:BB in 119.2 innings.
Aug 11 2021Lynn won't pitch Wednesday in Minnesota as originally planned and will instead start Thursday's "Field of Dreams" game against the Yankees in Dyersville, Iowa, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since Carlos Rodon (shoulder) was initially in line to start Thursday before being placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, the White Sox elected to adjust their pitching schedule by pushing Lynn back a day. Though Lynn will have the benefit of pitching on extra rest, the prospect of facing a superior Yankees team in an unfamiliar ballpark isn't the most ideal setup. Regardless, fantasy managers should include Lynn in their lineups without much thought, given that he's provided an excellent 2.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 130 strikeouts over 114.2 innings on the season.
Aug 6 2021Lynn allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight in six innings in Friday's win over the Cubs. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn recorded his fifth quality start in his last six outings by tossing six scoreless frames to begin Friday's contest, but he was removed from the game after allowing a single to Andrew Romine to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Romine came across later in the inning, and Craig Kimbrel gave up a three-run homer in the eighth that forced Lynn to settle for the no-decision. However, the 34-year-old starter has been dominant recently, as he's recorded a 1.85 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 39 innings across his last seven starts. The right-hander tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Minnesota on Wednesday.
Jul 30 2021Lynn allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings in Friday's win over Cleveland. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Most of the damage against Lynn came in the first inning via Franmil Reyes' two-run single. He later coughed up another RBI double to Jose Ramirez in the fifth. He had allowed one or fewer runs in each of his last five outings but he still hasn't taken a loss since June 19. The 34-year-old righty owns a terrific 2.07 ERA and 122:33 K:BB through 19 starts. Lynn is lined up to face the Royals at home next week.
Jul 26 2021Lynn (10-3) allowed one run on six hits and struck out six over six innings to earn the win over the Brewers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn not only kept Milwaukee in check, he also plated the winning run with a two-run single in the second inning. The right-hander lowered his ERA to a miniscule 1.91 and is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four July starts. With no off-days this week, Lynn lines up to pitch Friday at home against Cleveland.
Jul 19 2021Lynn took a no-decision during Monday's loss to the Twins. He allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out four across seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn technically would have pitched a complete game in the first half of Monday's twin bill but the score was tied 1-1 upon his exit, sending the game into extras. His only blemish of the day came from a solo home run off the bat of Nelson Cruz in the sixth inning. It was the fourth time this season that Lynn pitched at least seven innings. The right-hander, making his first start since signing a two-year, $38-million contract extension Saturday, has put together a strong 1.94 ERA and 1.02 WHIP this season. He lines up to take the mound again on the road Sunday at Milwaukee.
Jul 17 2021The White Sox signed Lynn to a two-year, $38-million contract extension Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal will keep Lynn in Chicago through the 2023 season and includes a club option for 2024. Through 16 starts with the White Sox, the righty has gone 9-3 and posted a 1.99 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 90.2 innings. Lynn is expected to make his next start Monday against the Twins.
Jul 8 2021Lynn (9-3) allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to earn the win over Minnesota on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has allowed two runs or fewer in 13 of 16 starts and sports an impressive 1.99 ERA before heading to the All-Star game next Tuesday. Assuming he pitches at the mid-season exhibition, Lynn's first start after the break should come the following weekend.
Jul 2 2021Lynn (8-3) allowed a run on four hits and five walks while striking out nine in six innings to earn the win over Detroit on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander's five walks were a season high, and he matched he also allowed nine baserunners for the third time in his last four outings. In Friday's start, Lynn was able to limit the damage to earn his first win since June 3. The 34-year-old has a strong 2.02 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 99:28 K:BB across 84.2 innings this year. He'll look to fend off regression again in his next start, tentatively scheduled for next week versus Minnesota.
Jun 26 2021Lynn's Saturday start against the Mariners was suspended in the the bottom of the third inning because of rain and will resume Sunday. He has fanned four while allowing no hits and two walks across three scoreless frames. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn will almost certainly be replaced when the game resumes Sunday, as the right-hander threw 47 pitches (27 strikes) Saturday. Lynn will try again for his eighth win when he takes the ball Thursday against Minnesota.
Jun 19 2021Lynn (7-3) allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking six across four innings, taking the loss Saturday to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn surrendered four runs in the third inning to total six runs in his four innings pitched. Despite not letting any balls leave the park, he had his shortest and worst start this season. He managed to amass six strikeouts before leaving early in the game. The 34-year-old has a 2.02 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP with a 10.2 K/9 in 75.2 innings. He will look to get back on track in a favorable matchup next weekend against the Mariners.
Jun 15 2021Lynn (7-2) picked up his second loss of the season Monday after allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight over six innings against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn had a six-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time since April 15. He was touched for a two-run home run in the first by Austin Meadows, then Brandon Lowe hit a solo shot in the third. It was just the second time in 12 starts that the right-hander has allowed more than two runs. Lynn will carry a league-best 1.51 ERA into his next start, which is expected to come Saturday at Houston.
Jun 9 2021Lynn did not factor in the decision versus Toronto on Wednesday despite allowing only one run on four hits and no walks over seven innings. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander surrendered a second-inning solo homer to Randal Grichuk but otherwise kept Toronto off the board over his seven frames. Lynn has now allowed one or zero earned runs in eight of his 11 starts this season, helping him post a minuscule 1.23 overall ERA that ranks second in baseball behind only Jacob deGrom. He has also registered a 72:17 K:BB across 65.2 innings along with a 0.88 WHIP. Lynn will look to continue his strong start to the season when he faces Tampa Bay at home early next week.
Jun 5 2021Lynn said he felt tightness at the end of Thursday's outing, but he should be able to make his next start, Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times reports ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Lynn "had a couple of areas that were barking a little bit," which is why he departed after six innings and 89 pitches -- low numbers for the workhorse starter. Lynn, who sports a sterling 1.23 ERA through 10 starts, appears likely to next pitch Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Jun 3 2021Lynn (7-1) allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out six across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn held the Tigers in check, with the sole run he allowed coming on a solo home run by Willi Castro. He generated the majority of his outs via the fly ball and also racked up 13 swinging strikes on 89 total pitches. In his last three outings, Lynn has not allowed an earned run across 18 innings while striking out 17. For the season, he's maintained a 1.38 ERA with a 63:17 K:BB.
Jun 2 2021Lynn won't pitch Wednesday against Cleveland after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was slated to start on three days' rest Wednesday, but he'll get additional down time ahead of his next outing. The White Sox haven't yet announced their rotation plans for the upcoming series against the Tigers, but Lynn will most likely be pushed back to start Thursday.
Jun 1 2021Lynn is scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Cleveland on three days' rest, Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Due to doubleheaders Saturday and Monday, the White Sox were forced to add a sixth starter to the mix, but the team apparently won't be turning to a seventh starter Wednesday, when none of the other rotation members are available on their normal four days' rest. Instead, Lynn -- who worked five innings (82 pitches) in one of the doubleheader games Saturday against the Orioles -- will face a quicker turnaround than usual for his 10th start of the season. Given his relatively light workload his last time out, Lynn shouldn't face any major restrictions Wednesday, though the White Sox probably won't ask him to push past the 100-pitch mark.
May 29 2021Lynn (6-1) fired five scoreless innings on three hits while striking out seven to get the win over the Orioles in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn delivered another gem Saturday, allowing only one extra-base hit. In addition, he didn't issue a walk for the third time this season. The 34-year-old has allowed less earned runs (8) than starts (9). He boasts a 1.37 ERA which is second in all of baseball. He carries a 9.74 K/9 and leads the White Sox with six wins. His next start is scheduled for Friday against Detroit.
May 25 2021Lynn (5-1) was credited with the win Monday after allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was locked in a pitchers' duel with St. Louis lefty Kwang Hyun Kim before earning a victory over the team that drafted him in the first round in 2008. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when the Cards managed to push a run across, but Chicago's offense eventually showed up, giving Lynn a win in his fourth straight decision. Lynn's next turn in the rotation comes Saturday at home against the Orioles.
May 18 2021Lynn did not factor into the decision Tuesday after holding the Twins to a pair of runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All of Lynn's damage came off the bat of Miguel Sano, who tallied a pair of solo shots against the right-hander in the fourth and six innings. Otherwise, Lynn held the Twins in check, painting yet another solid outing while leaving the game poised for the win. The 34-year-old has thrown at least five innings in each of his four starts since coming off the injured list, earning three wins in the process. Better yet, across his last three starts, Lynn has allowed only two earned runs. He'll look to continue his success during his next projected start at home Monday against the Cardinals.
May 17 2021Lynn (hand) is listed as the White Sox's probable pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his most recent outing May 13 against this same Twins squad, Lynn came away with his third win in as many starts, but not before taking a comebacker off his right hand during the game. The White Sox sent him in for precautionary X-rays after the outing that revealed no structural damage, so the 34-year-old looks like he'll be good to go for his upcoming turn through the rotation without any limitations. Lynn has been exceptional throughout his first season in Chicago, going 4-1 while posting a 1.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 44:11 K:BB across 34.2 innings.
May 13 2021Lynn underwent X-rays on his right hand/forearm after Thursday's win over the Twins that came back negative, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was hit by a comebacker in the top of the fourth inning Thursday, but he was able to remain in the game. Lynn allowed one unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out nine in five innings to earn the win over Minnesota. It's unlikely that Lynn will be forced to miss time since he was able to remain in the game and had a clean X-ray, but his status could be worth monitoring in the coming days. Assuming he's able to make his next start, Lynn tentatively lines up to face Minnesota on the road Tuesday.
May 8 2021Lynn (3-1) managed to go five innings Saturday, allowing no runs on one hit and four walks while striking out six to earn the win over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty was sharp Saturday in what ended up being a stress-free outing. The 33-year-old threw 51 of his 90 pitches for strikes as he struggled with command at times, but manager Tony La Russa gave him a higher pitch count than his previous start given that was his first appearance since returning from the IL. Lynn now has a 1.52 ERA and 0.98 WHIP on the year.
May 1 2021Lynn (2-1) returned from the IL to go five innings Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts to earn the win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his first start in over two weeks, Lynn limited the damage to two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before being pulled at only 68 pitches. He had gone for over 90 pitches in each of his first three starts, so manager Tony La Russa was most likely being cautious with his workload in Lynn's first start back from injury.
Apr 27 2021Lynn (back) will start Saturday's game against Cleveland, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was originally slated to return Friday, but apparently the White Sox want to keep Dallas Keuchel on normal rest, so it will be a Saturday activation for Lynn. He has a 0.92 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 19.2 innings over three starts.
Apr 24 2021Lynn (back) will throw several bullpens next week and hopes to return to game action Friday against Cleveland, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been on the 10-day injured list with a strained right trapezius since April 18, and he reportedly could have been available to return after spending the minimum amount of time on the IL. However, the White Sox have had postponements and scheduled days off recently, so Lynn will have additional time to fully heal before he returns to game action.
Apr 20 2021Manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that Lynn (trapezius strain) is expected to return after spending the minimum 10 days on the injured list, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This would suggest that Lynn will start April 27 at home against the Tigers. La Russa said the evaluation of Lynn on Tuesday was positive.
Apr 18 2021The White Sox placed Lynn on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a strained right trapezius. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn wasn't known to be nursing an injury coming out of his six-inning, 10-strikeout gem Thursday against Cleveland, so he may have tweaked a back muscle during a between-starts bullpen session. In any case, Lynn will have to miss at least one turn through the rotation, which was scheduled to come in Cleveland on Wednesday. The White Sox have yet to name a spot starter to fill in for Lynn.
Apr 15 2021Lynn (1-1) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out 10 across six innings Thursday against Cleveland. He was tagged with the loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn recorded a quality start and fanned double-digit batters for the second straight game this season, but that wasn't enough to end with a better outcome in what was a strong outing for the veteran right-hander. Lynn, who has allowed only two earned runs across 19.2 innings to begin the season, will try to keep it going in his next scheduled start, where he will face Cleveland once again, but this time on the road, on April 20.
Apr 9 2021Lynn (1-0) allowed five hits and struck out 11 without walking a batter in a complete game shutout win over the Kansas City on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was perfect through four innings and threw 111 pitches in his second start of the season. He had been inefficient throughout spring training and into his first regular-season start, so in that sense, this start came out of the blue. However, Lynn has been a workhorse throughout his career, so a start like this is not surprising. He'll next take the ball Wednesday at home against Cleveland.
Apr 3 2021Lynn was charged with two unearned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday. He struck out six and issued two walks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A ball that looked like a routine pop-up in the third caromed off center fielder Luis Robert's head, allowing David Fletcher to score and extending the inning. Lynn was effective otherwise, but inefficient; he could not complete five innings despite throwing 99 pitches. It was probably not the way he envisioned his White Sox debut, but there will be better days ahead, likely beginning next week at home against Kansas City.
Mar 25 2021Lynn allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over five innings in Wednesday's spring game against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw 74 pitches (52 strikes) in his fifth Cactus League start, the first outing he's gotten up and down five times. He's scheduled to throw six innings March 29, but the White Sox don't have a game scheduled, so there will be some type of controlled environment, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. At that time, Lynn said he'll throw 85-90 pitches, so Chicago's projected No. 3 starter will be in shape for his first turn of the regular season.
Mar 20 2021Lynn allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Friday's spring game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw 85 pitches to get those 11 outs, so from an efficiency perspective, it wasn't a great outing. But in terms of getting ready to throw six or seven innings in the regular season, Lynn is right on schedule. The right-hander said his velocity remained high into the later innings, and that he will keep locking in his command, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Lynn will have two more spring starts to up his count to 90-plus pitches before game-planning for his first regular-season start April 3.
Mar 15 2021Lynn will start Chicago's third game of the season against the Angels, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel will be starting the first and second games of the season, respectively. Lynn has struck out 12 over eight scoreless innings this spring.
Mar 14 2021Lynn allowed one hit and three walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings in Sunday's spring game against Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's command was off for a second straight start. He's handed out seven free passes over the last six spring innings but remains unscored upon in eight Cactus League frames. The good news is that he's building his pitch count; the bad news is the inefficiency. Despite the lack of command, Lynn told Scott Merkin of MLB.com that he feels good physically and shook off the walks.
Mar 9 2021Lynn allowed two hits and four walks and struck out five over 2.2 scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn is on schedule in terms of pitch count, throwing 60 pitches but only 30 landed for strikes. That's an obvious area that needs to be cleaned up, but Lynn was pleased overall, noting good velocity and how well his curveball played, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Mar 4 2021Lynn allowed one walk and struck out three over two scoreless innings in Thursday's spring game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn told Scott Merkin of MLB.com that he wanted to go out for a third inning. He'd thrown more pitches during batting practice than he threw Thursday.
Feb 28 2021Lynn will start Thursday's spring game against the Giants, Daryl Van Shouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox will start rolling out their regular starters beginning Tuesday with Lucas Giolito. Lynn's start Thursday puts him on a five-day schedule for the third game of the season, suggesting that the left-handed Dallas Keuchel will slot in between the two right-handers.
Dec 7 2020Lynn was traded to the White Sox on Monday in exchange for right-hander Dane Dunning and a prospect, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move unofficially marks the beginning of winter meetings and will certainly bolster Chicago's already strong starting rotation. Lynn turned in a 3.32 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with an 89:25 K:BB across 84 frames during the shortened 2020 campaign with the Rangers.
Sep 24 2020Lynn (6-3) was charged with the loss against Houston on Thursday, surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: To say Lynn got obliterated by the Astros would be an understatement. The 33-year-old was rocked for a season-worst 10 runs, including homers to George Springer, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve, bringing his season home run allowance to 13. With the tough outing, the right-hander's ERA rose from 2.53 to 3.32. The only positive note to take away is that he continued his streak of 37 consecutive starts with 100+ pitches. Overall, Lynn compiled an impressive 2020 campaign during which he found himself in contention for the CY Young award.
Sep 19 2020Lynn gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out five over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was decent Saturday, but he exited with the game tied at 3-3. It was the first time in six starts the veteran right-hander didn't issue a walk. Lynn has been fantastic this year with a 2.53 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 84 strikeouts and a 6-2 record over 78.1 innings. Lynn is expected to make his last start of the regular season Thursday versus the Astros.
Sep 13 2020Lynn (6-2) allowed one run on three hits and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out 10 and earning the win over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Lynn allowed an RBI groundout in the first inning, he silenced the Oakland lineup over the next six frames, allowing just three baserunners the rest of his outing. The 33-year-old lowered his ERA to a stellar 2.40 alongside a 79:23 K:BB over 71.1 innings this season. Lynn will aim for his third straight victory against the Angels on the road Saturday.
Sep 9 2020Lynn (5-2) earned the win over the Angels on Tuesday, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn entered the contest having lost each of his previous two starts, but he was able to get back into the win column with a strong outing against the Halos. The right-hander needed 114 pitches (72 strikes) to get through seven innings, but a solo home run off the bat of Jared Walsh was the only damage Los Angeles was able to muster against Lynn on the scoreboard. The veteran will carry a 2.52 ERA and 0.98 WHIP into his next start, at home against Oakland on Sunday.
Sep 3 2020Lynn (4-2) took the loss Thursday against the Astros, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's outing got off to a rough start with the right-hander allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning. He did settle down a bit after that, keeping the Astros off the board over the next three frames. However, he allowed a run in each of the next two innings to bring his line to a season-high six earned runs. After starting the year 4-0 through seven starts, Lynn has now dropped his last two. The 33-year old will look to bounce back when he takes the hill Tuesday against the Angels.
Aug 29 2020Lynn (4-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out six across six innings to take the loss Saturday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The major damage came on a two-run homer by Cody Bellinger in the third inning. It was Lynn's first outing of the season in which he's allowed more than three runs, though he still managed to turn in a quality start. Despite the slight misstep, Lynn still maintains a 1.93 ERA with a 56:17 K:BB across 51.1 frames. He's projected to take his next turn through the rotation Friday in Seattle.
Aug 24 2020Lynn (4-0) picked up the win Monday against the Athletics, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, allowing a two-out RBI single to Mark Canha. After the Rangers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the frame, Stephen Piscotty quickly tied it up in the second with a homer off the right-hander. The 33-year old settled in after that, keeping Oakland off the board in his last four innings of work. Lynn will take a sparkling 4-0 record and 1.59 ERA into his start against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Aug 19 2020Lynn took a no-decision during Wednesday's loss to the Padres, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out six across seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his first start against San Diego since 2017, Lynn limited the Padres' damage to a pair of solo home runs by Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis in the third inning. Otherwise, the right-hander did not issue any walks and provided depth into at least the seventh inning for the third time this season, including a complete game during his last start at Coors Field. Lynn will look to defend his shiny 1.37 ERA and 0.81 WHIP on Monday against Oakland.
Aug 14 2020Lynn (3-0) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks while striking out six over nine innings as he earned the win Friday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Lynn didn't get much help from his defense Friday, he kept the Rockies in check at Coors Field and remained in the game despite the close score. He was dealing with a quad/groin issue for most of the game after covering first base during the first inning, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. However, he apparently wasn't impacted by it too much. Since he was able to pitch a complete game after suffering the injury, it's unlikely that it would impact his availability going forward. Lynn will look to continue his dominant season on the road Wednesday against the Padres.
Aug 9 2020Lynn (2-0) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks across five innings Sunday, striking out six batters and earning the win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn cruised through four shutout innings before coughing up a two-run shot to Tommy La Stella in the fifth frame. The veteran starter has allowed two or fewer runs in all four starts this season, sporting a 1.16 ERA through 23.1 innings. He'll get a tough road matchup against the Rockies on Saturday.
Aug 4 2020Lynn allowed one run on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings versus the Athletics on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matt Chapman's game-tying solo shot in the seventh inning was the first run against Lynn in three starts this year. Needless to say, the 33-year-old righty has been dealing so far in 2020. He's racked up 24 strikeouts in 18.1 innings, while pitching to a 0.49 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Lynn will try to get back in the win column at home versus the Angels on Sunday.
Jul 29 2020Lynn allowed struck out eight and allowed one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings during Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Diamondbacks. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old missed out on the win since most of the Rangers' scoring came during a five-run seventh inning, but it was another dominant start regardless. Lynn has given up only three hits and six walks while recording 17 strikeouts through 12 scoreless frames to begin the season. He'll look to keep things rolling next week in Oakland.
Jul 24 2020Lynn (1-0) earned the win during Friday's 1-0 victory over the Rockies. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and four walks while fanning nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn looked impressive in his season debut and while the four walks might be a concern, he is coming off a 2019 season in which he posted a 2.5 BB/9 and a 10.6 K/9 -- both were career-best marks. The 33-year-old right-hander will aim to build off his impressive debut in his next scheduled start when he faces the Diamondbacks on July 29 at home.
Jul 13 2020Lynn threw 107 pitches during Monday's intrasquad game, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn allowed five runs and had trouble getting out of the second inning. He chalked up the rocky outing to throwing pitches he might not otherwise throw because he wanted to work on creating groundballs. Lynn, the Rangers' Opening Day starter, will throw 85 pitches in his final summer camp outing.
Jul 7 2020Lynn fired six scoreless innings in Tuesday's intrasquad game. He gave up two hits and no walks while striking out eight, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was initially scheduled to throw five innings in Tuesday's intrasquad matchup. However, he was efficient over the first five frames by throwing just 70 pitches, so he was able to get an extra inning of work in. The Rangers' Opening Day starter reportedly threw eight strikeouts while only allowing two batters to reach base in his solid performance.
Jun 25 2020Lynn will serve as the Rangers' Opening Day starter, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was scheduled to serve as the Rangers' Opening Day starter under normal circumstances, so it was relatively unsurprising when manager Chris Woodward announced Thursday that the right-hander will take the mound in the first game of the 60-game regular season in late July. The 33-year-old pitched a career-high 208.1 innings for the Rangers last year, posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 246:59 K:BB.
May 15 2020Lynn has been throwing the equivalent of two bullpen sessions per week while awaiting the start of the MLB season, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn, who was poised to be the Rangers' Opening Day starter, is home in Nashville (Tenn.) throwing in a tunnel he built for himself or into a net in his driveway. Once the league and the players' union agree to a re-opening, the loose plan for Texas' starters is to get three starts apiece in a mini-spring training, going from three innings the first day, then building up to 80-85 pitches by the third outing. Typically, starters are up to 90-to-100 pitches by the end of a normal spring training, so expect shorter outings initially.
Mar 5 2020Lynn allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out four over four innings in Wednesday's spring game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn ceded runs in three of the four innings during his second spring start. The goal this time out was to work on his curveball and changeup, notes T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Lynn threw his fastball 71.8 percent of the time last season, the third-highest usage among pitchers with a minimum of 1,000 pitches thrown. It makes sense that he wants to mix in more offspeed stuff and lower his predictability. "We talked about it all offseason, mixing in more curveballs and changeups," Lynn said. "Today I threw some good ones. Got to keep going. If I can mix in my curve and changeup to get some easier outs, that's the plan. Once I get going and do what I do, if I can have them as weapons, it's going to be good." The right-hander sports an 8.10 ERA over two spring starts with at least another three starts remaining to get his innings and pitch count up.
Feb 29 2020Lynn allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over 2.2 innings in Friday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels did all of their scoring damage in the first inning off Lynn, who labored through 30 pitches and was clearly frustrated by that. "I'm not gonna lie, my fastball command wasn't where I would have liked," Lynn told Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News. The positive news is that Lynn was able to find a groove following the first. The Rangers were hoping to get three innings out of the right-hander, but he hit his targeted pitch count and was removed during the middle of the third inning. Lynn will try to throw 65 pitches when he makes his next start.
Feb 27 2020Lynn will make his spring debut Friday against the Angels, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers will begin incorporating their starters this weekend, when Lynn is expected to work three innings or about 45-50 pitches. He will be followed by Mike Minor, who will throw a simulated game Saturday, and then Corey Kluber on Sunday. Manager Chris Woodward told Dave Sessions of MLB.com that he expects those three, in some order, to start the first three games of the season at Seattle.
Sep 29 2019Lynn (16-11) allowed one run on two hits and a walk over 7.1 innings Sunday, striking out 10 as he picked up his 16th win of the season in the finale against the Yankees Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was locked in for the most part as his only mistake was a solo shot given up to Aaron Judge in the third inning. The right-hander recorded double-digit strikeouts for the second consecutive outing and had the most wins in a season since 2012 when he had 18 with St. Louis. Lynn had a great bounceback season in 2019 after posting career-lows in wins and career-highs in ERA and WHIP a season ago. The 32-year-old figures to be a key part of the Rangers' rotation next summer as he and Mike Minor make a great dynamic duo.
Sep 22 2019Lynn (15-11) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Sunday, striking out 12 and earning the win over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was spotted a 4-0 lead before he even stepped on the mound and he rolled through a few scoreless frames before allowing one run in the fourth and fifth innings. It was his first win since Aug. 2 and his first double-digit strikeout performance since Aug. 23. Lynn will carry a 3.76 ERA into Saturday's home tilt against the Yankees.
Sep 17 2019Lynn (14-11) took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one as the Rangers eventually fell 4-1. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn served up three long balls, but luckily they were all solo shots, allowing him to limit the total damage against him to four earned runs and work seven innings for a second straight start. The right-hander continues to be a workhorse starter for the Rangers, sporting a 3.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and excellent 224:57 K:BB across 195.2 innings. He lines up to take on the Athletics for his next start in a Sunday road matchup.
Sep 4 2019Lynn (14-10) took the loss Wednesday as the Rangers fell 4-1 to the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings while striking out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres both took the right-hander deep, the first time since July 21 that Lynn has served up multiple homers. He'll carry a 3.81 ERA and 209:53 K:BB through 181.2 innings into his next start Tuesday, at home against the Rays.
Aug 29 2019Lynn did not factor into the decision during Thursday's loss to the Mariners, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out five
Aug 24 2019Lynn (14-9) took the loss Friday as the Rangers were downed 8-3 by the White Sox. He struck out 10 but coughed up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks over 5.2 innings.
Aug 18 2019Lynn allowed three runs on four hits and five walks over five frames Sunday, striking out three batters in the loss to the Twins. He did not factor in the decision.

Jul 21 2018Lynn (7-8) took the loss Saturday as the Twins fell 4-2 to the Royals, giving up three runs on three hits and six walks over five innings while striking out six.Things could have been a lot worse for Lynn given his control issues, as the Royals only managed to bring one run home after he walked the bases loaded in the third inning. After seeming to solve his wildness at least somewhat in June, the right-hander's now posted a 7.1 BB/9 through four starts in July (17.2 innings), leading to a 7.13 ERA over that stretch -- and making Lynn a very risky fantasy play in his next start Thursday in Boston.
Jul 11 2018Lynn (7-7) got the win Wednesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings against the Royals.Lynn labored in this one, needing 114 pitches just to get through five frames. To his credit, the righty recovered well from a rocky start as he found himself in a 3-0 hole just four batters into the game and only allowed one the rest of the way. It's been an up and down first half for Lynn, but after carrying an ERA north of eight into May, he's been able to lower that mark to 5.22. Control remains an issue -- his 5.4 BB/9 would easily surpass his previous career high -- but he's also striking out just about a batter per inning with 91 punchouts in 91.1 innings.
Jul 6 2018Lynn (6-7) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings while striking out three in a 6-2 victory over the Orioles.Jake Cave robbed Tim Beckham of a home run on the first pitch Lynn threw in the ballgame, but the right-hander settled down after that close call, throwing 62 of 105 pitches for strikes en route to his seventh quality start of the season. Lynn will carry a 5.21 ERA -- but a 3.49 mark over his last nine starts -- into his next outing Wednesday at home against the Royals.
Jul 1 2018Lynn (5-7) lasted just 1.2 innings Sunday, yielding seven runs on three walks and five hits (one home run) while striking out one in an 11-10 loss to the Cubs.Lynn worked a scoreless first inning before imploding in the second, all kicked off by a three-run shot from Cubs starter Jon Lester. His ERA shot from 4.81 to 5.49 after the horrendous outing. Lynn posted a 2.83 ERA in the month of June, allowing one earned run or fewer in three of his five outings. He'll look to bounce back against Baltimore on Friday.
Jun 27 2018Lynn (5-6) was tagged with the loss Tuesday, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out eight over five innings against the White Sox.Lynn took the hill to begin the bottom of the sixth inning with a 4-2 lead, but he left with the bases loaded after yielding singles to all three batters he faced, and the bullpen allowed all three to come around to score. The 31-year-old has settled in after a brutal start to the season, as Tuesday was the first time allowing more than three earned runs in his last eight starts and he's seen his ERA drop over two and a half runs in the process. He'll take a 4.81 ERA and 9.3 K/9 into Sunday's interleague tilt against the Cubs.
Jun 20 2018Lynn (5-5) allowed one unearned run on three hits and five walks with two strikeouts through five innings to pick up the win Wednesday against Boston. It was a slog for Lynn, who needed 97 pitches -- just 50 strikes -- to get through five frames. Walks have been a regular issue for Lynn, who has now walked five batters on five separate occasions. Lynn is striking more batters than ever, but it has come at a cost of wildness, as his 5.6 BB is nearly two points worse than his previous career high, 3.8, set last season with St. Louis. He gets groundballs by the dozens, too, but it's not enough to compensate for the free passes, and despite Wednesday's win, he won't be trustworthy until he tightens up his control. Lynn will take a 4.64 ERA into Tuesday's start against the White Sox.
Jun 14 2018Lynn (4-5) took the loss despite working 6.2 quality innings Thursday against the Tigers, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out nine.Lynn gave up the Tigers' go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh on his 114th and final pitch -- his highest count of the season. Still, Lynn now has rattled off five straight quality starts in which he's posted a sparkling 2,01 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 30.1 frames. The 16 walks he's dished out say he's probably working a bit over his head, but this recent form remains a marked improvement over his first eight starts (7.47 ERA with only two outings with six-plus innings). While he's returned to the tier of solid pitching options in many mixed leagues, his outlook is grimmer for his next scheduled assignment Wednesday at home versus the loaded Red Sox.
Jun 8 2018Lynn didn't factor into the decision against the Angels on Friday, giving up just one earned run on four hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking two as Minnesota lost 4-2.The first-year Twin stumbled out of the gate in 2018 with an 8.37 ERA over his five outings in April, but he seems to have settled in lately, as this marked his fourth straight quality start since May 22. His 5.08 ERA and 1.68 WHIP are still bloated, but Lynn has been pretty consistent over his career, and averaged a 3.06 ERA over his previous three seasons as a member of the Cardinals. That track record, combined with his strong pitching in recent weeks, means there's reason to believe those ratios will start to even out more as the season progresses.
Jun 2 2018Lynn (4-4) came away with the win in Saturday's 7-1 victory over Cleveland, allowing one run on two hits and five walks over six innings while striking out five.Cleveland hitters weren't able to make the right-hander pay for his free passes, going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position on the night. Lynn has walked five or more batters five times this season, but he's also provided the Twins with three straight quality starts and four in his last six, lowering his ERA to 5.46 over that stretch -- an improvement of almost three full runs. He'll try to keep his momentum going Friday at home against the Angels.
May 28 2018Lynn (3-4) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks across six innings to earn the win Monday against the Royals. He struck out five.Lynn worked around trouble on several occasions and was unscathed other than a two-run rally which included a pair of doubles in the fifth inning. He needed just 91 pitches (53 strikes) to work through six innings but wasn't brought back out for the seventh, though he recorded his second straight quality start. It's been a rough season for Lynn for the most part, but he's shown signs of life of late and will look to keep it going this weekend against the Indians.
May 22 2018Lynn (2-4) earned the win Tuesday, shutting out the Tigers over 6.2 innings with four strikeouts while allowing five hits and a walk.Lynn stayed out of trouble by keeping the ball on the ground, as he recorded 14 groundouts versus just two flyouts. It was just the second time all season he walked fewer than two batters, and the improved command was a very welcome sight, as Lynn entered Tuesday's tilt with an abysmal 7.0 BB/9. The 31-year-old still carries a bloated 6.34 ERA and may be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation at some point if his early season troubles persist much longer, but he figures to be safe in the short term. His next start is slated to come Monday against the Royals.
May 16 2018Lynn (1-4) took the loss against the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over three innings while striking out five. While the strikeouts were at least vaguely encouraging, Lynn was once again unable to locate the ball in the strike zone with any consistency, throwing 46 of 82 pitches for strikes in yet another early exit. The right-hander has lasted six innings in only two of his eight starts for the Twins, putting tremendous pressure on the team's bullpen, and barring a drastic turnaround in his 7.0 BB/9, it's hard to see how Lynn can keep his rotation spot much longer. Nonetheless, he's penciled in for his next trip to the mound Tuesday at home against the Tigers.
May 11 2018Lynn didn't factor into the decision on Friday, lasting just 4.2 innings against the Angels, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking two as the Twins won 5-4.Lynn was coming off a strong outing against the White Sox but he couldn't keep the momentum going, continuing what has been a rough start to the season for the first-year Twin. Lynn's numbers through his first seven starts in Minnesota are ugly, as he's now got a 7.34 ERA, a 1.98 WHIP and 25 walks through 34.1 innings. The rough start has persisted to the point where he can't be considered a trustworthy fantasy option until he shows signs that he's righting the ship and getting back to the form that saw him average a 3.06 ERA over his previous three seasons as a member of the Cardinals.
May 5 2018Lynn (1-3) picked up the win Saturday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on eight hits across six innings while striking out seven. It took six tries, but Lynn was finally able to secure his first win in a Twins uniform, also tossing his first quality start of the season. After struggling mightily with control over his first five starts -- issuing 23 walks in 23.2 innings -- Lynn was dialed in Saturday, tossing 71 of his 97 pitches for strikes while issuing no free passes, marking the first time all season he didn't issue at least three walks in a start. He's still working with an unsightly 7.28 ERA and 1.96 WHIP, but Saturday was a step in the right direction. He'll look to build off this effort in his next start, which should come on the road against the Angels.
Apr 30 2018Lynn (0-3) allowed six runs on seven hits and five walks over five innings to take the loss Monday against Toronto.Lynn served up six runs for the second straight start and has now allowed at least five runs in four of his five outings this season. Lynn has now walked a whopping 23 batters in 23.2 innings. He threw just 10 first-pitch strikes to 27 Blue Jays hitters on Monday and served up his fourth and fifth home runs of the season to Justin Smoak and Russell Martin respectively. Lynn has an 8.37 ERA and has yet to build any sort of rhythm with the Twins whatsoever.
Apr 30 2018Lynn (ankle) will start Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Dan Hayes of The Athletic Minnesota reports. The veteran starter injured his ankle in his previous start, but it doesn't appear to be bothering him at all anymore. Lynn will take on Aaron Sanchez in the series opener in Minneapolis.
Apr 25 2018Lynn (0-2) rolled his left ankle during the fourth inning of Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Yankees, ESPN reports. "I'm sure he'll get it treated. We're not anticipating him missing any time," Twins manager Paul Molitor said.It was another rough outing for Lynn even before the injury, as he allowed six runs on seven hits -- including home runs by Didi Gregorius and Tyler Austin -- and three walks over 3.2 innings before being lifted. The right-hander now has a 7.71 ERA and 22:18 K:BB through 18.2 innings to begin his tenure with Minnesota, and assuming his ankle doesn't require him to miss any time, he'll make his next start Monday at home against the Blue Jays.
Apr 20 2018Lynn (0-1) came away with a no-decision in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Rays, allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks over six innings while striking out seven.Early-season postponements have played havoc with Lynn's schedule perhaps more than any other pitcher in baseball, as he hadn't made a start since April 9, and the rust showed in Friday's outing. There were some positive signs for the right-hander, however -- he generated 15 swinging strikes among his 95 pitches -- and once he settles into a regular routine, his 6.00 ERA should improve. Weather permitting, Lynn will make his next start Wednesday on the road against the Yankees.
Apr 14 2018Lynn will not pitch Sunday as the game has already been postponed due to inclement weather.Lynn was originally scheduled to start Saturday against the White Sox, but the game was postponed. The Twins were expected to shift all their starters back one day, but with Sunday's game already postponed, Lynn will next start Friday at Tampa Bay.
Apr 14 2018Lynn will start Sunday against the White Sox after Saturday's scheduled outing was postponed due to inclement weather, Mike Berardino of The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. This marked the second straight postponement in the Twins-White Sox series, and there has been no rescheduled dates plugged in at this time. Manager Paul Molitor will just push each of his starters back a day, giving Lynn the ball for Sunday's series "finale" as long as that game doesn't get postponed as well.
Apr 9 2018Lynn struck out nine over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday against the Astros. He allowed three hits and issued four walks.Sunday's rain delay pushed Lynn back a day into a difficult matchup, but he held the Houston offense at bay thanks to an excellent showing in the strikeout department. The punchouts ran up his pitch count, however, limiting him to five innings in his second start as a Twin. Lynn still owns an inflated ERA of 5.00 despite this dramatically improved performance -- a figure he will look to improve upon in Saturday's scheduled appearance against the White Sox.
Apr 8 2018Lynn won't start Sunday against the Mariners after the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The two sides will make up the contest May 14, which had been an off day for both teams. As a result of the postponement, Lynn will simply move back a day in the pitching schedule and is now set to start the series opener against the Astros on Monday.
Apr 2 2018Lynn (0-1) allowed five runs on three hits and six walks over four innings in Monday's loss to the Pirates.Lynn struggled early in Monday's outing, as he walked three batters and gave up five runs in the first frame, with four runs crossing the plate via a grand slam from Colin Moran. Lynn didn't have much luck finding the strike zone, resulting in just 44 of his 95 pitches being called as balls. While this lack of control was reminiscent of Lynn's 2017 campaign, in which he posted a career-high BB/9 of 3.8, the 30-year-old righty managed to allow just one hit over his following three innings. Lynn will look to rebound from Monday's rough effort when the Twins host the Mariners on Sunday.
Mar 13 2018Lynn threw three scoreless innings in his Twins debut in Tuesday's spring game with five strikeouts. Despite signing late in spring training, he's expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. "We're looking toward that Pittsburgh series - he will pitch one of the two games there, if all goes to plan," said Twins GM Thad Levine, according to ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities. The Twins open with three games at Baltimore and then travel for two games at Pittsburgh on April 2 and April 4. Lynn said he had been throwing simulated games while waiting to sign with a team and Tuesday's outing showed he's on track for Opening Day.
Mar 12 2018Lynn will make his spring debut Tuesday against the Orioles, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Lynn is scheduled to throw three innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League outing. After undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the entire 2016 season, Lynn posted a 3.43 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 33 starts (186.1 innings) in 2017. However, while his ERA and WHIP were both at respectable levels, Lynn's 7.4 K/9 was a career-low while his 3.8 BB/9 was a career-high.
Mar 10 2018Lynn signed a one-year deal with the Twins on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.Target Field plays as a slightly hitter-friendly park, so there may have been more fantasy-friendly destinations for Lynn, but it's important to just see him finally sign somewhere. It's unclear if signing in mid-March will leave him enough time to be ready to go by Opening Day or not, but he shouldn't miss much time, if any. The larger concern for Lynn is how good he truly is. In his first season back from Tommy John surgery in 2017, he recorded a 3.43 ERA, meaning that he's kept his ERA under 4 in all six of his major-league seasons. He posted career-worst strikeout (19.7 percent) and walk rates (10.1 percent), though, leading to an uninspiring 4.82 FIP.
Mar 8 2018Lynn has reportedly turned down a two-year, $20 million offer from Minnesota, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Lynn has been working out in Jupiter, Florida, according to the report, and is waiting to find a larger deal. It's getting late enough in Spring Training that Lynn may not be ready for Opening Day even if he signs with a team shortly. It looks like he may hold out for a larger deal possibly into April or more.
Nov 16 2017Lynn declined the Cardinals' qualifying offer prior to Thursday's deadline, Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times reports.Following the rejection of his $17.4 million offer, Lynn will officially become a free agent and is ready to test the open market this winter. The 30-year-old started 33 games for St. Louis this past season, posting a 3.43 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 186.1 innings.
Nov 7 2017Lynn was tendered a qualifying offer by the Cardinals prior to Monday's deadline, the Los Angeles Times reports. It's expected that he'll decline the one-year, $17.4 million tender and seek a multi-year contract on the open market in the coming weeks. Lynn pitched well in 2017 after missing all of 2016 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he's fallen short of 200 innings in each of the last four seasons he's pitched. If Lynn enters the market as expected, he'll be doing so following a season that included the lowest strikeout rate (7.4 K/9), highest walk rate (3.8 BB/9), and highest home-run rate (1.30 HR/9) of his career.
Sep 28 2017Lynn allowed one run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts over five innings in Thursday's no-decision against the Cubs.Lynn held Chicago off the board after surrendering an Ian Happ home run in the first, but still needed 86 pitches to get through five frames while finishing one walk shy of his season worst. The 30-year-old righty faded down the stretch, failing to pitch more than five innings in any of his final four starts after logging at least six in each of his previous 12 outings and posting quality starts in all but one of those. Lynn did a tremendous job of rebuilding his value heading into free agency after missing all of the 2016 campaign due to Tommy John surgery, finishing with double-digit wins for the fifth time while posting a 3.43 ERA.
Sep 23 2017Lynn (11-8) took the loss Saturday, giving up eight runs on six hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning against the Pirates. He struck out one batter. This was a disaster, as Lynn only managed two outs on 42 pitches (25 strikes). His season ERA has jumped more than half a run --
Sep 17 2017Lynn lasted only four innings in Sunday's no-decision at Wrigley Field, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.Lynn exited down 3-0, but Dexter Fowler's sixth-inning three-run homer got him off the hook even though Chicago ultimately triumphed 4-3. While this is the second consecutive start in which Lynn has pitched five or fewer innings while allowing three earned runs, he had been rock-solid with 11 quality starts in his previous 12 outings. Look for him to bounce back on the road Saturday against the light-hitting Pirates.
Sep 12 2017Lynn (11-7) got the win Tuesday against the Reds after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts over five innings. This wasn't Lynn's sharpest outing, but St. Louis' offense bailed him out in a 13-4 win. The righty has been a dependable source of victories on a perennially decent Cardinals team, reaching double-digit wins in each of his five full major-league seasons. He had notched quality starts in 11 of his previous 12 outings coming in, so expect Lynn to bounce back in his next start Sunday against the Cubs.
Sep 7 2017Lynn (10-7) took the loss Thursday despite allowing just one run on six hits and one walk over six innings against the Padres. He struck out three.Luck wasn't on Lynn's side in this one; three of the six hits against him were infield singles, all coming in the first inning, and he didn't get any help from his offense. Lynn has been on an excellent run over the last two and a half months, allowing more than two runs just once in his last 13 starts to lower his ERA to 2.94. Now close to two full years removed from Tommy John surgery, Lynn appears headed for a big payday in free agency this winter.
Sep 3 2017Lynn was outstanding Saturday against the Giants, completing eight shutout innings while allowing just one hit, walking four and striking our four. He did not factor into the decision, however.Lynn was in line for the victory after departing, but the St. Louis bullpen wound up blowing the team's small lead in the ninth inning to leave the starter with a no-decision. Since the All-Star break, the 30-year-old has been pitching like an ace, logging a 1.99 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 10 second-half starts. He'll look to keep the good times going in his next start Thursday in San Diego.
Aug 27 2017Lynn didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rays after allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings.Lynn and Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer matched zeroes in the first three innings, but Lynn blinked in the fourth on a solo homer by Logan Morrison and surrendered a solo shot to Brad Miller in the seventh. St. Louis' offense took him off the hook with two late home runs of its own, so Lynn still hasn't lost since July 4 while firing nine quality starts in 10 subsequent appearances. Expect another strong outing Saturday in San Francisco.
Aug 22 2017Lynn allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings during Tuesday's loss to the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.Lynn allowed only seven baserunners in his six innings of work Tuesday, but was twice punished by Padres third baseman Yangervis Solarte. Solarte ripped a three-run double in the third inning and added an RBI double in the fifth to account for all four of Lynn's earned runs. Tuesday's shaky performance was the 30-year-old's first non-quality start since July 4, snapping a streak of eight consecutive quality outings. He'll look to rebound in his upcoming Sunday start against the Rays.
Aug 16 2017Lynn allowed two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits and three walks while striking out three batters through six innings during Wednesday's loss to Boston. He didn't factor into the decision.Lynn has outpitched his supporting statistics for most of the season, and despite an underwhelming 4.78 FIP, his 3.05 ERA and 1.17 WHIP are solid marks. He's also now allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his past nine starts. It's rare for a pitcher to outperform his peripheral numbers for a prolonged period, and Lynn's only fanned 13 batters over 24 innings through his past four starts, so statistical decline looms. Still, the veteran's also clearly locked in, and the Cardinals are building a late-season charge for a postseason berth. Lynn projects to face the Padres at Busch Stadium in his next start.
Aug 10 2017Lynn allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and five walks while striking out just three batters through six innings during Thursday's win over Kansas City. He didn't factor into the decision.Lynn entered Thursday's outing with a standout 1.85 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through his previous eight starts, so while he didn't surrender much damage, this was far from an impressive start. Additionally, it's definitely worth noting that his .226 BABIP is unsustainably low, and his 3.12 ERA will probably begin moving closer to his 4.83 FIP going forward. It's probably won't be a crippling fantasy decline, though. Lynn projects to make his next start against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Aug 5 2017Lynn (10-6) allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings in a win over the Reds on Saturday.A Joey Votto homer in the first accounted for the extent of the damage against Lynn, who now sits with a 3.12 ERA over 132.2 innings this season. He's gone at least six innings while allowing two runs or fewer in each of his last six starts, giving up a total of two home runs over his last 37.1 innings (20 homers allowed in his first 17 starts). Lynn lines up for a home matchup with the Royals next week.
Jul 30 2017Lynn (9-6) held the Diamondbacks to two runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts over six innings in Sunday's 3-2 win.Lynn pitched around a season-high walk total for his fifth consecutive quality start. All the damage against him came in the second, as the Diamondbacks scored on a sac fly and a bases-loaded walk but failed to blow the contest open. Lynn made Arizona pay for its lack of killer instinct, settling down to retire the final eight batters he faced. His next start is scheduled for Saturday on the road against a Reds team that has scored only two runs in 11 innings against the righty this season.
Jul 25 2017Lynn held the Rockies to a single run on three hits and two walks over six innings Tuesday, striking out six in a no-decision.He had the fortune of facing Colorado away from Coors Field, and the result was Lynn's fourth consecutive quality start -- a span in which he's allowed only two runs over 25.1 innings. This could well have been Lynn's final start for the organization he's spent his entire career with, as his impending free agency may mean that the Cardinals -- a mediocre team this year with a 49-51 record, although they're still in contention in an equally mediocre NL Central -- send him elsewhere ahead of the trade deadline.
Jul 22 2017Lynn and general manager John Mozeliak met Saturday to discuss the team's trade deadline plans, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Given that he's an impending free agent and owns a solid 8-6 record and 3.30 ERA, Lynn makes for the prototypical trade candidate at the deadline. The 30-year-old right-hander has dispelled concerns about any lingering effects of from his 2016 Tommy John surgery and has maintained the same average low-90s velocity on his fastball that he'd possessed before the injury. Despite the strong season, the Cardinals have not had any discussions with him about a contract extension, much to Lynn's chagrin. If the plan is indeed to let him walk, the team would likely be wise to find a suitor before the July 31 trade deadline, considering they'd only receive draft pick compensation if he departs in free agency.
Jul 20 2017Lynn gave up just one run on three hits and a walk in six innings pitched Thursday against the Mets, but he was left with a no-decision. He also struck out five.67 of Lynn's 104 pitches went for strikes as he dominated Mets' hitters all afternoon. The only blemish on his record was the solo home run he gave up to Lucas Duda in the second inning, but the Cardinals weren't able to pick him up offensively to get the win. Interestingly, this is the first run Lynn allowed since July 4, helping him lower his ERA all the way to a solid 3.30 mark. His next start will come Tuesday at home against the Rockies.
Jul 15 2017Lynn (8-6) allowed no runs on eight hits while striking out three over 6.1 innings to earn the win on Saturday against the Pirates.Lynn was in a scoreless contest entering the fourth inning before the Cardinals came up with four runs of support over the next two innings to help him earn his eighth victory of the campaign. After struggling through a pair of rough starts in June, he's allowed just five earned runs over his last four starts to lower his ERA from 3.86 to 3.40, and despite a bit of inconsistency, he's a strong lineup option. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Mets.
Jul 9 2017Lynn (7-6) allowed just three hits and one walk with two strikeouts over seven shutout innings in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Mets.Lynn pitched seven full innings for just the third time in 18 starts and was in control the whole time despite posting a season-low strikeout total. He has notched at least 12 wins in each of his past four campaigns, and is once again on pace to top that mark heading into the All-Star break. The right-hander's next start is scheduled for Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Jul 4 2017Lynn (6-6) gave up four runs -- two earned -- on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. He struck out five. This game was defined by the Marlins' five-run rally in the sixth inning, with Matt Carpenter's throwing error making a huge difference in that frame. Despite that unfavorable ending to an otherwise solid start, Lynn has offered decent production for fantasy owners this season, maintaining a 3.87 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. However, now might be a good time to sell relatively high on him, as Lynn's been the beneficiary of spectacular BABIP luck (.225) while walking too many batters and giving up a lot of home runs. His 19.6 percent HR/FB may normalize at the same time, offsetting any BABIP regression he experiences, but Lynn has always been a high-WHIP pitcher, which limits his fantasy upside and makes him a potentially volatile commodity.
Jun 29 2017Lynn (6-5) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters over six innings during Thursday's win over Arizona. The Diamondbacks own a high-powered offense, so this was an encouraging bounce-back showing from Lynn after allowing 14 runs over 10.1 innings through his past two outings. He sports a 3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 for the campaign, but his 5.41 FIP is still a concerning mark. Lynn lines up to face Miami at Busch Stadium in his next start.
Jun 24 2017Lynn (5-5) allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 5.2 innings during Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh. After posting a 2.69 ERA and allowing just 22 earned runs over 73.2 innings through his first 13 starts of the season, Lynn has now surrendered 14 runs in his past two outings. While his recent struggles are extreme, Lynn sports a 5.54 FIP for the season, and his .219 BABIP is an unsustainably low mark. There are legitimate concerns, and a daunting date with the Diamondbacks at Chase Field is up next for Lynn. Being selective with his matchups going forward is advised.
Jun 19 2017Lynn (5-4) allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings during Sunday's loss to Baltimore.Lynn was particularly hurt by the long ball, as he allowed four home runs and now sports a concerning 1.8 HR/9. He still owns a rock-solid 3.33 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 for the campaign, but his 5.37 FIP also stands as a warning that more poor outings could be ahead. Lynn projects to make his next start against the Pirates at Busch Stadium.
Jun 13 2017Lynn (5-3) threw five scoreless innings in Tuesday's win over the Brewers, allowing three hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.Lynn was in control from the start in this one and only ran into trouble in the fifth inning, when he loaded the bases with one out before escaping the jam unscathed. He labored a bit in that final frame, which played a part in his removal after 95 pitches, but the game was under control at that point and the bullpen closed it down without a hitch. Lynn hasn't completed six full innings in any of his last four starts as the club continues to monitor his workload, but he has allowed more than two runs just once in his last six outings to lower his ERA to a stellar 2.69. Even if he continues to get a relatively early hook in some starts, the 30-year-old continues to get the job done and will look to continue his recent success Sunday against the Orioles.
Jun 8 2017Lynn (4-3) allowed only one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings but had to settle for a no-decision in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Reds.He was lifted for a pinch hitter after throwing only 78 pitches (47 strikes) with the Cards ahead 3-1, and while it's good to see the club keep an eye on Lynn's workload in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, manager Mike Matheny may be second-guessing himself after watching his bullpen implode after Lynn left the game. The right-hander will get an extra day of rest before taking the mound Tuesday at home against the Brewers in the first game of a doubleheader.
Jun 2 2017Lynn (4-3) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings, but didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cubs.Lynn had an early 2-0 lead, but departed the contest after allowing a game-tying run in the sixth inning while piling up a pitch count of 103. He's failed to pitch into the seventh innings in five of his last six starts, but his 2.97 ERA makes him an excellent fantasy option. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Reds.
May 28 2017Lynn (4-3) pitched five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out three in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Rockies.Lynn allowed the first two hitters to reach in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Gerardo Parra made him pay with a three-run homer that extended the Rockies' lead to four. The Cardinals offense couldn't provide any support until after Lynn had left the game. Lynn entered the game on a solid streak of starts, but pitching in Coors Field has a way of putting an end to those types of things. Before entering the thin Denver air, Lynn had allowed more than two runs just once over his previous seven starts and won four of his last five decisions. Despite the subpar performance on Sunday, Lynn's ERA still sits at a sparkling 2.93.
May 24 2017Lynn didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Dodgers but racked up 10 strikeouts over eight innings while allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks. The hard-throwing right-hander went toe-to-toe with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, with a first-inning solo home run by Yasmani Grandal representing his one glaring mistake. Lynn was otherwise dominant over 123 pitches, inducing 18 swings-and-misses and setting season highs in innings pitched and strikeouts while allowing his fewest amount of hits in a 2017 start. The 30-year-old now has quality starts in six of his last seven trips to the mound and will look to keep the momentum going in a tough Coors Field matchup against the Rockies next Sunday.
May 17 2017Lynn (4-2) gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox.He served up solo homers to Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley in the first two innings, but Lynn was still in line for a possible win before his defense let him down in the fifth. The 30-year-old has now delivered quality starts in five of his last six trips to the mound, and the Cards' schedule will afford him an extra couple days rest before his next outing Tuesday on the road against the Dodgers.
May 11 2017Lynn allowed four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five batters over four innings during Wednesday's win over Miami. He did not factor into the decision. This was Lynn's worst outing of the season, as he allowed two home runs in the bottom of the first inning. He also struggled with his command throwing just 61 of 104 pitchers for strikes. The veteran righty now sports a 2.75 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 for the season. With a tough start against Boston on deck for Lynn next week, his numbers could take another hit.
May 5 2017Lynn (4-1) pitched six scoreless innings with just four hits and two walks allowed while striking out six batters during Friday's win over Atlanta.Lynn has now won four consecutive starts with just two runs allowed and 22 strikeouts over 25 innings to improve to a 2.04 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 7.9 K/9 for the season. His 4.12 FIP suggests he's probably currently overachieving, but his track record before Tommy John surgery shouldn't be overlooked, as he posted a 2.84 ERA over 64 starts during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Lynn will look to make it five wins a row against the Marlins next week.
Apr 23 2017Lynn (2-1) allowed a single run on just three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings during Saturday's win over Milwaukee. The Brewers have scored the fifth-most runs in baseball, so this was an impressive outing from Lynn. He has now allowed just one run through 13 innings while striking out 12 batters over his past two starts. He appears to be back in the groove following a 2015 Tommy John surgery and sports an impressive 3.35 ERA and 8.6 K/9 over 132 career starts. He lines up to face the Reds next.
Apr 17 2017Lynn (1-1) earned his first win of the season Monday with seven scoreless innings against the Pirates, allowing three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.Lynn was unimpressive through his first starts but turned in a gem in this one as he allowed just two men past first base. He threw 66 percent of his pitches for strikes, a nice departure from his last start in which he issued free passes, and notched a season high in punchouts. This was an excellent result for Lynn in his third start since returning from Tommy John surgery and he will look to produce a similar result Saturday against the Brewers.
Apr 11 2017Lynn (0-1) gave up six runs (four earned) on five hits, including three home runs, and four walks while striking out four over five innings in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Nationals. He managed to throw just 57 of 101 pitches for strikes, and when Lynn did get the ball into the strike zone he was too often just grooving it right down the heart of the plate. Some ups and downs are to be expected for the 29-year-old as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery, however. He'll look to rebound at home Monday against the Pirates.
Apr 7 2017Lynn allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings but came away with a no-decision in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs.It was vintage Lynn, as he needed 98 pitches to get 16 outs but mostly held the opposition in check. The 29-year-old was still in line for his first big-league win since Sept. 23, 2015 before Brett Cecil coughed up four runs in the seventh inning. All in all it was an impressive return from Tommy John surgery for Lynn, but he'll get another tough test Tuesday in Washington.
Apr 6 2017Lynn will start Thursday against the Cubs.A rainout pushed both Lynn and opposing pitcher John Lackey back one day. The 29-year-old right-hander will be making his first major-league start since October of 2015, marking his official return from Tommy John surgery.
Apr 5 2017Lynn (ribs) will not start Wednesday as the game against the Cubs has been postponed until Thursday. It's likely that Lynn's season debut will simply be moved back to Thursday. The veteran right-hander will be making his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2015. He posted strong numbers over five starts this spring, compiling a 1.20 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 15 total innings.
Apr 3 2017Lynn (ribs) will start Wednesday's game against the Cubs, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn fired 80 pitches on a back field in Cardinals camp last week without any setbacks, setting the stage for him to make his 2017 debut on schedule Wednesday. The team expects that the veteran righty will be able to throw at least 100 pitches in what will be his first regular-season game action since 2015 after missing all of last season following Tommy John surgery.
Mar 30 2017Lynn (ribs) threw 80 pitches in his outing Thursday and could be in line to start the Cardinals' third game of the season, Pete Wickham of MLB.com reports.Lynn got back on the mound Thursday after exiting his previous outing for precautionary reasons. He hit his 80-pitch threshold without issue and "apparently looked very strong" according to general manager John Mozeliak. Lynn has pitched well his first spring training since undergoing Tommy John surgery in late 2015, notching a 1.20 ERA to go with a 0.93 WHIP over 15.0 innings. As it stands, Lynn should slot in as the Cardinals' No.3 starter.
Mar 28 2017Lynn (ribs), who was scheduled to start for Triple-A Memphis on Thursday night, will instead take the mound earlier that day in a minor-league game in Jupiter, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The change in venue isn't due to any new injury concerns for Lynn, but rather, uncertainty as to the weather forecast for Memphis' game. As per manager Mike Matheny, Lynn remains a candidate to start the third game of the regular season versus the Cubs on April 5.
Mar 26 2017Cardinals manager Mike Matheny downplayed the back injury Lynn suffered during Saturday's Grapefruit League appearance, saying that he expects the right-hander to pitch Thursday in his final start of the spring, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.Lynn threw just one inning Saturday after experiencing upper-back stiffness, which had resulted in a downturn in his velocity. His removal was deemed precautionary, however, and after meeting with a chiropractor after the outing, it doesn't sound like Lynn is at much risk of missing the start of the season. Matheny indicated that Lynn is expected to approach 80 pitches in his start Thursday, and if all goes well, he'll likely face no restrictions when he takes the hill for his first MLB start since 2015 in the first week of April.
Mar 25 2017Lynn was removed from Saturday's game after just one inning due to precautionary reasons, according to general manager John Mozeliak, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports. Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Lynn's fastball velocity was below 90 mph on most of his pitches before exiting. He threw 10 pitches and was in the high 80s on most of his pitches, rather than his customary 93-94 mph range. Lynn told Mozeliak that he was experiencing right rib discomfort but did not seem concerned, however a velocity drop of this magnitude suggests that it could be more than just a day-to-day thing. We will update his status when the Cardinals provide more information.
Mar 20 2017Lynn (1-1) gave up four hits and one walk over five scoreless innings in Sunday's 5-2 Grapefruit League win over the Braves. He struck out three.Lynn scattered four singles, not allowing more than one hit in any inning or any baserunner to reach third. The hard-throwing righty's ERA is now 1.29 over 14 spring innings following Sunday's outing. "Five innings, 75 pitches. That was the goal," said Lynn, who actually got through five on 73 pitches (44 strikes). "Not a lot of long-pitch innings, which was good. Missed some spots here and there, but for the most part, I felt pretty good. The last couple innings, I felt better as I went on."
Mar 10 2017Lynn (0-1) racked up three strikeouts and gave up one earned run on two hits over three innings in Thursday's 3-0 Grapefruit League loss to the Astros.Lynn fired 55 pitches over his three frames, 42 of which found the strike zone. The hard-throwing right-hander cruised through the first two innings, notching a pair of called third strikes on Marwin Gonzalez and Yuli Gurriel to close out the first and punching out A.J. Reed in the same manner to put a bow on the second. A wild pitch in the third moved Teoscar Hernandez to third after he'd lead off with a double, and Colin Moran's single brought him home, leading to the only real blemish on Lynn's record Thursday. The veteran had good command and was encouraged by the fact that he consistently threw his breaking ball for strikes, and by his overall stamina as he works back from missing all of last season. "The ball was coming out good, I had good command in the strike zone. ... I have a ligament that is repaired, and I was pitching with it torn," Lynn said. "So I feel good. I pitched with a bad elbow for a while, so for it to feel good is an exciting feeling. I feel strong. I just got to get going."
Mar 4 2017Lynn gave up only an unearned run on two hits over four innings in Saturday's 1-1 Grapefruit League tie with the Cardinals. He also recorded a strikeout.Lynn became the first Cardinals starter to go a full four innings this spring, firing 36 of his 52 pitches for strikes. What trouble he did encounter was largely of his own doing, as Lynn made an errant high lob to Paul DeJong at third on an attempted second-inning rundown and then uncorked an inaccurate throw on an attempted pickoff of Wilmer Difo in the third. The latter gaffe placed Difo on third base, and he came home on Grant Green's groundout a batter later. Despite having to scuffle some, Lynn took the big picture view of the outing and came away satisfied. "As long as they're not barreling it, we're fine," Lynn said. "[I got] a lot of grounders and weak fly balls, so I did what I wanted to do."
Feb 28 2017Lynn, making his return to the mound after missing all of 2016 due to Tommy John surgery, gave up one earned run on four hits and one walk in Monday's 5-4 Grapefruit League win over the Nationals.Lynn surrendered an RBI single to Derek Norris in the second for his one run and impressively fired 28 of his 35 pitches for strikes. He threw plenty of fastballs -- his bread-and-butter pitch -- during his stint on the mound, but will selectively reincorporate his slider, curveball and changeup now that his elbow has regained the necessary stability and strength. "I'm going to do whatever I have to do to get people out," Lynn said. "If that involves throwing all fastballs, I will. If I have to mix it up, I will. But I've had some pretty good success with the fastball, so I'm going to keep [throwing it]."
Feb 24 2017Lynn (elbow), making his return after missing all of 2016 due to Tommy John surgery, will start Monday's split squad game against the Nationals,Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Lynn will make his long-awaited return to the mound after missing all of last season. The 29-year-old right-hander is looking to earn a spot in the starting rotation and build on his streak of four straight double-digit victory seasons, with Monday's outing serving as his first chance to start building his case,
Feb 20 2017Lynn (elbow) threw a live bullpen session on Monday, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The 29-year-old missed all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John, and will 17 months removed from the surgery come Opening Day, giving him a good shot to regain his footing early in the season. With prospect Alex Reyes missing the upcoming season due to Tommy John surgery, the Cardinals are looking to ease Lynn back into things this spring, possibly skipping his first scheduled start, as he will be needed in their starting rotation once the season rolls around.
Jan 26 2017Lynn (elbow) expects to earn a spot in the starting rotation during spring training, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. After missing all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery, the 29-year-old began throwing exercises in December and is ready to compete for a starting rotation spot in 2017. Lynn has been impressive during his time in the majors, accumulating a 3.37 ERA across five seasons with the Cardinals. Barring any setbacks, he will likely reclaim his spot within St. Louis' starting rotation.
Aug 29 2016Lynn will end his rehab assignment and likely conclude his season, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The difficult decision was made when it was determined Lynn would not be able to effectively contribute in the majors this season. After undergoing Tommy John Surgery in November, the 29-year-old made three minor league rehab starts and had shown steady progression in his recovery. However, Lynn emphasized that his focus was to prepare for a healthy 2017 season instead of rushing back to the mound.
Aug 23 2016Lynn (elbow) will make his next rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Springfield, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.Lynn increased his pitch count from 27 pitches in his first rehab outing to 36 in his second, and he will bump up to 50 pitches in his third outing Wednesday. He will likely throw at least a couple more times in the minors, but should be ready to join the Cardinals' rotation at some point in early-to-mid September.
Aug 15 2016Lynn tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, struck out two, and allowed just one hit over 27 pitches in his first rehab appearance Monday at High-A Palm Beach.Consider Lynn is not yet a year removed from Tommy John surgery, it seems optimistic to expect him to be able to return this year, but the Cardinals may be hoping he can return for September or the playoffs. His first time on the mound went about as well as can be expected, but what's more important will be how he feels Tuesday morning. We'll keep monitoring his rehabilitation efforts for more news about his return schedule.
Aug 15 2016Lynn (elbow) will make a rehab start with the Cardinals High-A Palm Beach affiliate Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn, who underwent Tommy John surgery last November, appears to be at the early end of the rehab schedule. A start with High-A marks his first return to the mound since last season and a big step towards a potential return in September. More on a timetable should be established as he progresses further in the schedule.
Jul 28 2016Lynn (elbow) has thrown seven live batting practice sessions and will continue with those through the end of August, MLB.com reports. Now close to nine months removed from undergoing Tommy John surgery, Lynn is throwing off the bullpen mound regularly, building his workload up as high as 45 pitches in some sessions. He recently began incorporating his offspeed pitches, and while he is not expecting to make it back to the majors this season, Lynn is not ruling out the possibility. Manager Mike Matheny said Lynn was "further along that I thought he'd be as far as the intensity" after watching Lynn's bullpen session Thursday.
Jun 10 2016Lynn is planning a visit to St. Louis in June, during which he's expected to throw a bullpen session and have his elbow re-examined, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. While initially expected to miss the entirety of the 2016 campaign, Lynn says that if his rehab program continues without any setbacks, it's possible for him to throw at the latter end of the season. Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny has also expressed that the team is pleased with Lynn's progress.
Apr 3 2016Lynn (elbow) was placed on the 60-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery last November and is slated to miss the entire 2016 campaign. His placement on the 60-day DL will open up a 40-man roster spot that the Cardinals can use on another pitcher.
Mar 29 2016Lynn (elbow) played catch from 60 feet on Monday for the first time as he recovers from Tommy John surgery last November, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn experienced no issues. Even if everything goes perfectly in his recovery it's unlikely he be back to provide any fantasy value this season. It's possible, however, that he could provide a bullpen arm for the Cardinals in the playoffs.
Nov 10 2015Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday and will miss the entire 2016 season, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. While Lynn battled elbow and forearm issues toward the middle of the year, there was never any indication that his ulnar collateral ligament was damaged. The right-hander allowed just one run over his final three starts of 2015, lowering his ERA for the season to 3.03. Fortunately for St. Louis, Adam Wainwright should be available to step into Lynn's rotation spot, with Tyler Lyons, Tim Cooney (abdomen) and Marco Gonzales waiting in the wings if there are other injuries.
Oct 9 2015Lynn will be available out of the bullpen Friday for Game 1 of the NLDS, MLB.com reports.Manager Mike Matheny suggested he would only turn to Lynn in an emergency, perhaps if John Lackey is chased early or the game goes into extras. Lynn finished the regular season with a 3.03 ERA and 167 strikeouts, but he showed some signs of fatigue down the stretch. He will start Game 4 on Tuesday, if necessary.
Oct 8 2015Lynn will start Game 4 of the NLDS, Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It's unclear who Lynn will matchup against as the Mets have yet to officially announce their Game 4 starter, however it appears as if he might face Steven Matz who is attempting bounce back from an injury to his back which he suffered near the end of September. Lynn has been automatic as of late, giving up just one run in his last 16 innings. That being said, anything can change during the postseason.
Sep 28 2015Lynn went five scoreless innings en route to a no-decision Monday, allowing four hits while walking four and striking out six in a 3-0 victory over the Pirates.Lynn has quelled concerns of late-season fatigue by tossing 11 scoreless innings in his last two outings. The right-hander pitched out of trouble in the third inning, stranding the bases loaded with one out by retiring Starling Marte and Neil Walker. Lynn's four walks contributed to a high pitch count given his five-inning performance; the 28-year-old has not exceeded six innings in the month of September. On his final start of the regular season, Lynn will take on the Braves at Turner Field on Sunday.
Sep 23 2015Lynn (12-10) went six shutout innings Wednesday, allowing four hits while walking none and striking out four in a 10-2 drubbing of the Reds.Lynn departed at 89 pitches, having been staked to a comfortable 6-0 lead by the end of the fifth inning. Wednesday's excellent start ends a string of poor performances from Lynn, who had pitched to a 9.26 ERA in his last three outings. As the Cardinals advance their lead in the NL Central, look for Lynn to see an innings decrease in anticipation of the playoffs.
Sep 18 2015Lynn allowed three runs on four hits, walking six and striking out two over 3.1 innings, but came away with a no-decision in the Cardinals 8-3 loss to the Cubs on Friday afternoon.Another poor performance from Lynn who has struggled as the season winds down. He has now walked 27 in 43 innings since the beginning of August and may simply be out of gas. He has a history of wearing down later in the year, and it wouldn't be surprising if we see the Cardinals try to limit his workload over the final days prior to the playoffs.
Sep 12 2015Lynn lost his second straight start Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over six innings while striking out three. He gets credit for a quality start, but Lynn definitely seems to be fading as the season draws to a close, managing only a 29:21 K:BB ratio in 39.2 innings since the beginning of August. Don't be surprised if the Cardinals get him some extra rest before the playoffs, but for now his next start is scheduled for Friday, on the road against the Cubs.
Sep 2 2015Lynn (ankle) will not pitch this weekend against the Pirates, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn rolled his right ankle in his previous start, and it appears it will cost him another outing as well. The Cardinals will instead turn to the trio of Carlos Martinez, Jaime Garcia and Tyler Lyons over the weekend. It doesn't sound as though the issue will hold him out much longer, so it wouldn't be surprising if he rejoins the rotation for his next scheduled start.
Aug 29 2015Lynn exited Saturday's game in the eighth inning after sustaining a right ankle injury, Bob Nightengale of the USA Today reports.Lynn rolled his right ankle while trying to field a ground ball and went down in considerable pain. Luckily, the righty was able to walk off the field under his own power. Lynn had thrown seven scoreless innings before being replaced in the eighth by Randy Choate.
Aug 25 2015Lynn (10-8) picked up the win against Arizona Monday, pitching six innings while allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk, striking out three.Lynn hasn't been as effective as he was earlier in the year but he still sports a 2.94 ERA in 140.2 innings pitched this season, while pitching for the team with the best record in baseball.
Aug 18 2015Lynn took a loss Tuesday against the Giants as he allowed two runs on four hits and five walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six.Lynn drew 11 swinging strikes and needed them to prevent a blowup as his control uncharacteristically deserted him -- his five walks were a season high. Still, Lynn has walked one or fewer batters in more starts (12) than he has walked two or more (11), and that's why Lynn is a great bet to keep pitching like he deserves his 2.94 ERA.
Aug 13 2015Lynn (9-7) lasted only 0.2 innings, giving up seven runs -- three earned -- on six hits Thursday against the Pirates.Lynn faced 10 batters in the first and recorded only two outs in the shortest outing of his 199 career starts. Despite Thursday's disastrous showing, Lynn has a strong 2.95 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 137:44 K:BB ratio in 128 innings this season. He'll look to bounce back in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Giants.
Aug 7 2015Lynn (9-6) pitched six shutout innings, giving up six hits and four walks while striking out seven and earning the win against Milwaukee on Friday.Friday was a nice rebound for Lynn, who was roughed up a bit against the Rockies in his last start. Overall, Lynn has had a very strong season and has emerged as a formidable strikeout pitcher. This season, he is averaging 9.61 K/9 - his best rate since his rookie year where he worked primarily out of the bullpen. He has, at times, struggled when handing out free passes, so Friday's four walks are worth keeping in mind moving forward.
Jul 28 2015Lynn won his eighth game Monday against Cincinnati, as he allowed just one run on five hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out five.Lynn has now struck out at least five batters in 10 straight starts, over which time he has lowered his ERA from 3.46 to 2.71. Lynn has nine quality starts out of those 10 as he has become one of the most consistently great starters in the National League. His 2.71 ERA comes on the heels of a 2.74 mark in 203.2 innings in 2014.
Jul 23 2015Lynn gave up two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight in Wednesday's no-decision against the White Sox.Lynn and counterpart John Danks were locked up in a scoreless duel before Chicago pushed across two runs in the sixth, helped by a miscue for Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who juggled a potential double-play grounder as he tried to get the ball out of his glove. The Cardinals wouldn't score until the eighth, so Lynn didn't factor in the decision. Despite having a modest 7-5 record, Lynn has a strong 2.80 ERA and 119:34 K:BB in 109.1 innings this season. He'll take the mound again Monday against the Reds.
Jul 10 2015Lynn allowed five runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out five over four innings of a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Friday night.Lynn (6-5, 2.90 ERA) just wasn't sharp in this one, allowing runs in three of the four innings he pitched. He had been solid in three starts since missing time with a forearm strain in mid-June, so the Cardinals will look for him to bounce back following next week's All-Star break.
Jun 30 2015Lynn took a no decision in a quality start Tuesday against the White Sox, as he allowed one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.Lynn has been a model of consistency, going at least five innings in all 15 starts and allowing less than two earned runs in 12 of the 15 (80 percent). His ERA also fell to 2.74 after Tuesday's performance, exactly matching his 2014 mark. "Consistency" in pitching is often just a synonym for good, but few pitchers have been as predictably solid as Lynn over the past two years.
Jun 28 2015Lynn will have his next scheduled start moved up from Wednesday to Tuesday, Luke Thompson of FOX Sports Midwest reports. With Jaime Garcia getting pushed off Tuesday's turn while he continues to battle a groin injury, Lynn will be the main beneficiary, as he'll now pick up a two-start week. Both matchups look quite favorable for Lynn, as Tuesday's outing will come against the light-hitting White Sox, while Sunday's opponent will be a home date against the Padres.
Jun 26 2015Lynn (5-4) gave up only two hits in six scoreless innings in Thursday's win over the Marlins. He struck out six and walked four.Lynn, who had been on the disabled list with a strained forearm, pitched six scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 2.84. The 28-year-old continued his dominance over the Marlins, improving to 4-0 lifetime in six games against them. He'll face the White Sox the next time he takes the mound Wednesday.
Jun 25 2015Lynn (forearm) was officially activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday.Lynn was already announced as Thursday's starter, so it was just a matter of time before the move was official. The Cardinals optioned Tyler Lyons to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move, opening up a spot on the 25-man roster.
Jun 22 2015Lynn (forearm) will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday and start against Miami, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals haven't indicated who will be sent back to Triple-A yet but Tyler Lyons is probably the most likely. Owners should feel comfortable inserting Lynn back into their lineups this week.
Jun 21 2015Lynn (forearm) threw a bullpen session without any issues Saturday and may throw one more bullpen session before being activated some time in the latter half of next week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Manager Mike Matheny wants to see how Lynn recovers from this bullpen session before deciding if he'd like him to throw one more before being activated. He's eligible to come off of the disabled list on Tuesday during the Cardinals series against Miami, but it's possible he could be held back until the Cardinals face the Cubs next weekend.
Jun 19 2015Lynn (forearm) will throw a bullpen session for Cardinals officials in Philadelphia on Friday and if all goes well he'll likely start next week in Miami, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn could come off the DL when first eligible on June 23rd. He hasn't had any setbacks thus far so owners should be optimistic for his status next week. The Cardinals will likely reveal his status some time over the weekend.
Jun 16 2015Lynn (forearm) played catch Tuesday for the first time since being placed on the DL, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. As expected, Lynn began his throwing program Tuesday, and he's expected to continue to throw throughout the week. Lynn is only expected to miss two starts, and the current plan calls for him to meet up with the team in Philadelphia this weekend. His stint on the DL was backdated to June 8, meaning he'll be eligible to pitch as early as June 23, when the Cards begin a three-game set with the Marlins in Miami.
Jun 16 2015Lynn (forearm) will resume throwing Tuesday and is expected to miss just two starts, Ryan Boyer of NBC Sports reports.Lynn last started June 7, and thus he'll only miss two turns in the rotation. He's eligible to come off the DL on June 23, and will apparently be ready to return by then, barring any setbacks.
Jun 15 2015Lynn (forearm) will be examined Monday to determined if he can begin preparing for his next start, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals hope Lynn can return after the 15-day minimum, which would set him up to face the Marlins on either June 24 or 25. He just finished seven days of inactivity, and the team hopes it was enough to fix the inflammation in his forearm. Even if he isn't quite ready by the 24th or 25th, Lynn doesn't appear to be in danger of missing a long stretch.
Jun 12 2015Lynn was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday with a right forearm strain, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. The stint can be backdated to June 8, meaning Lynn will be eligible to come off the DL soon as June 23, but a return timetable will be up in the air until he is cleared to resume a throwing program. Tyler Lyons will be recalled and toe the rubber Saturday, though Marco Gonzalez (shoulder) could eventually be an option if this turns into an extended absence for Lynn.
Jun 11 2015Lynn (forearm) returned to St. Louis on Wednesday to undergo further testing, the Associated Press reports.Lynn hasn't yet been bumped off his scheduled start Saturday against the Royals, but there's growing doubt that he'll be able to take that turn. Manager Mike Matheny said the Cardinals will await the test results before determining whether or not Lynn will need to have his turn in the rotation skipped.
Jun 8 2015Lynn lasted just five innings Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs with five strikeouts and one walk. He did not factor into the decision. The 28-year-old allowed a pair of early runs but was able to settle down and simply fell victim to a high pitch count, as he needed 98 pitches (just 60 strikes) to labor through five frames. Lynn has been sharp for the most part this season and will carry a 3.07 ERA into his next start Saturday against the Royals.
Jun 8 2015Lynn was pulled after five innings Sunday against the Dodgers due to forearm tightness and a high pitch count, MLB.com reports.Lynn said he has been dealing with similar discomfort all season and it wasn't a big concern. He was at 98 pitches when he left after the fifth. While it appears to be nothing it's always an area of concern for pitchers and fantasy owners should monitor the situation closely.
Jun 2 2015Lynn pitched 7.2 shutout innings Tuesday, giving up five hits and one walk while fanning five Brewers en route to his fourth win of the season.Few pitchers who do not get treated like aces are as reliable in fantasy as Lynn, who always seems to post an ERA around 3.00 and a WHIP around 1.30 and a strikeout per inning. He is right on pace with those marks this season and his ability to pitch deep into games should allow him to get his win total into the mid-teens by the end of the season.
May 28 2015Lynn gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out five over six innings Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.Back cramps had affected his performance in his previous outing, so it was good to see him put up a quality start Wednesday -- his sixth of the season. Lynn's walk rate is actually down a tick to 8.1 percent from 8.3 percent in 2014, so his 1.35 WHIP should be attributed to an unusually high .337 BABIP against. While Lynn got a no-decision Wednesday, the Cardinals have the best record in the National League, so he should have plenty more opportunities to add to his win total over the rest of the season.
May 27 2015Lynn (back) has been confirmed as Wednesday's starter against Arizona.Lynn was able to pitch through back cramps in his last outing but his performance suffered, as he was knocked around for five runs on 10 hits in six innings against Kansas City. However, there was never any indication that his start Wednesday was in jeopardy, nor was there a suggestion he may be limited in any way against the Diamondbacks.
May 23 2015Lynn (back) gave up five runs on 10 hits and a walk over six innings in Friday's shutout loss to the Royals. All the damage came on a pair of homers by Kendrys Morales -- one in the first and one in the third -- but Lynn labored through most of the outing, and it was revealed Saturday that he was dealing with back cramps. Lynn's season ERA is still a reasonable 3.46, but his WHIP has been inflated to 1.32, thanks to a trio of rough outings in his last six starts. He expects to be able to take his next turn Wednesday against Arizona but will need to receive clearance from the training staff.
May 23 2015Lynn (3-4) had a rough outing Friday against the Royals, surrendering five runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings to take the loss.Lynn has still been solid as ever this year, posting a 3.46 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and striking out 62 batters in 54.2 innings pitched. Owners would surely like to see his WHIP come down a bit, and he'll look to get back on track at home against Arizona next week.
May 23 2015Lynn dealt with back cramps during Friday's loss to the Royals, MLB.com reports.Manager Mike Matheny noticed that Lynn didn't look right early on, as he consistently fell behind in the count and was not cutting the ball loose, but Lynn convinced Matheny he was fine to continue pitching. Lynn struggled in his six innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits, but said he expects to make his next start after receiving treatment. The team will re-evaluate him Saturday before plotting out his activity for the coming days.
May 18 2015Lynn came up with another strong outing on Sunday, allowing just one run while striking out seven across 7.1 innings to earn his third win of the season. The 28-year-old has shown this season that his breakout 2014 campaign was no fluke, as he's posting similar solid ratios to go along with a career-high 10.8 K/9 that has fantasy owners rejoicing. Lynn will look to continue his stellar start against the Royals on Friday.
May 12 2015Lynn pitched six shutout innings Tuesday, allowing four hits while walking four and fanning nine in Cleveland. The big righty labored, needing 118 pitches (67 strikes) to get through six frames, but all in all this was a very strong outing for his fantasy owners. He was struck on the right hand by a hard grounder to the mound in the second inning, but he remained in the game.
May 7 2015Lynn (1-3) struggled Wednesday, allowing five runs on eights hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts in six innings in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs. The Cardinals' eight game win streak ended, and Lynn pushed his ERA up to 3.82. Prior to Thursday's game, Lynn had given up only one run in four of his five starts. He'll take the mound again Tuesday at Cleveland.
May 2 2015Lynn struck out 10 and walked one while holding the Pirates to one run on four hits over seven innings Friday night. He was locked in a pitcher's duel with A.J. Burnett on Friday night, but the Cards' offense didn't score the decisive run until the 10th inning, leaving Lynn without a decision for the effort. Through five starts, he's carrying a career-high 29.8% K% (career 23.3%) while walking fewer batters (6.6% BB%) than he has at any point as a big leaguer. Lynn will face the Cubs on Wednesday in his next scheduled start.
Apr 26 2015Lynn struggled against the Brewers on Sunday, giving up six runs on ten hits and one walk while striking out six over 5.0 innings. The big righty had been stellar this year and entered the game with a 1.56 ERA, so owners can chalk this one up to just one rough outing. Wins have been hard to come by for Lynn in the early going, but he is striking out batters at a high rate so there isn't too much to complain about. He will look to get back on track against the Pirates on Friday.
Apr 21 2015Lynn fanned seven and walked four while holding the Nationals to one run on five hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Tuesday night.Prior to a ninth-inning rally against Nats closer Drew Storen, Lynn was on the hook for the loss Tuesday. The four walks were a sharp turn from consecutive starts where he issued just one free pass to open the year. Lynn will oppose a struggling Brewers offense in Milwaukee in his next start Sunday at Miller Park.
Apr 16 2015Lynn pitched five solid innings, allowing one run and six hits while striking out four and walking one in Wednesday's win over the Brewers.Lynn wasn't at his best, but his effort Wednesday pushed his April record to 13-2 since 2012, the best record in the majors over that period. Six relievers followed Lynn and the Cardinals held the lead to give Lynn his first win of the season. Lynn will take the mound against Washington in his next start Tuesday.
Apr 8 2015Lynn struck out nine and walked one while giving up two runs -- one earned -- on two hits over six innings in a loss to the Cubs.He pitched very well, but simply was outperformed by Jake Arrieta (seven scoreless) on Wednesday afternoon. Lynn threw his new changeup four times in his first regular season start, leaning mostly on his four-seam, two-seam, and slider combination. He's scheduled to face the Brewers at home on Wednesday in his next scheduled outing.
Apr 7 2015Lynn will start Wednesday against the Cubs.As expected, the Cardinals will just move Lynn back to Wednesday after Tuesday's game was postponed due to rain and sub-freezing winds. Rather than skip Carlos Martinez this time through, manager Mike Matheny will start him in Sunday's finale and have Adam Wainwright start the home opener.
Apr 7 2015Tuesday's game between the Cardinals and Cubs has been postponed due to rain and sub-freezing wind chills, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.Manager Mike Matheny has yet to announce an altered rotation for the days ahead, but he figures to just move Lynn back to Wednesday. The game is not expected to be made up until July or September. Lynn had a bit of a light spring workload (12 innings) but fared well, allowing three runs while striking out nine.
Apr 2 2015Lynn will start in the Cardinals final game Spring Training game Thursday before taking the mound for the Cardinals second game of the season next week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn slots into the second spot of the rotation, a spot higher than in 2014, which also means he'll get the start for the Cardinals home-opener on April 13. Lynn isn't one of the most exciting starting pitchers in fantasy but he's been durable and consistent while delivering a ton of strikeouts the last two seasons.
Mar 25 2015Lynn tossed four scoreless innings in Wednesday's spring training game in his first outing since suffering a hip flexor earlier in spring.Lynn struck out three batters on the day, and his fastball reached 95 mph on the scoreboard gun. It seems all is well, and though he's a little behind in his throwing program, he'll likely be available for his first turn in the rotation barring a setback.
Mar 19 2015Lynn (hip) pitched in a simulated game without issue on Thursday, using his full arsenal including an improved changeup he's been working on, MLB.com reports.Lynn looks on track to return to game action sometime early next week. An improved changeup is definitely something that could help Lynn take another step forward this year and would help make his fastball even more effective.
Mar 14 2015Lynn (hip) will face minor league hitters in a simulated game Wednesday, the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports.Adam Wainwright (abdomen) is on a similar rehab plan, and it sounds like both starting pitchers should be ready for the start of the season. Lynn's value is often not fully appreciated in drafts, and he makes for a solid No. 3 starter in standard leagues. Continue to monitor his situation to make sure he is on track to start in his first turn through the rotation in 2015.
Mar 13 2015Lynn (hip), who will miss his scheduled start Friday, returned to the mound instead for a bullpen session, MLB.com reports. If all goes well Lynn should be on track to return to game action sometime late next week. The hip flexor strain was diagnosed as minor so it shouldn't linger all that long. Assuming he has no more setbacks his availability for the start of the season should be fine.
Mar 11 2015Lynn (hip) is not expected to make his scheduled Grapefruit League start Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Manager Mike Matheny said "one of the kids" will likely start in place of Lynn, who has been diagnosed with a minor hip flexor strain. The right-hander suffered the injury Sunday during a spring outing and there is no set timetable for his return. Opening Day is still more than three weeks away, but Lynn's availability for the start of the year could be jeopardized if he's unable to take the bump the next time through the rotation.
Mar 9 2015Lynn underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a minor hip flexor strain, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Lynn said he expects no serious setbacks from the injury, so he shouldn't be held out of action for too long. There was no exact timetable given, but at this point the 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day.
Mar 8 2015Lynn exited his spring start earlier than expected Sunday with an apparent hand problem, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Goold speculates this could be Lynn's problems with blisters popping up again, so there's probably nothing wrong with Lynn that would force him to miss real time in practice.
Mar 8 2015Lynn exited Sunday's spring training game due to a left hip flexor strain and will be re-evaluated Monday.Lynn's injury was believed to be related to a hand issue, but it appears the origin is in his hip. There is no clear timetable as of yet, but that should come about after he is re-evaluated Monday.
Jan 15 2015Lynn agreed to a three-year, $22 million contract with the Cardinals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The pact does not buy out any of Lynn's free agent years, but it does ensure that the two sides will not require an arbitration hearing in any of Lynn's final three years of team control. Lynn, who posted a career-best 2.74 ERA last season, will likely open the 2015 campaign as the Cardinals' number two or three starter.
Oct 8 2014Lynn will be ready to go for Saturday's Game 1 of the NLCS in case Adam Wainwright is a late scratch or has to be pulled early, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Obviously the Cards would much rather have him pitch Game 2, but given Wainwright's scare earlier this week and the strong performances of John Lackey and Shelby Miller against the Dodgers, they can afford to use him in this capacity as well.
Oct 1 2014Lynn will start Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Saturday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Manager Mike Matheny announced his rotation order for the NLDS on Wednesday, and Lynn will start behind ace Adam Wainwright, with John Lackey to follow in Game 3. Shelby Miller will start Game 4, assuming neither team sweeps the series in three games. Lynn was clobbered to the tune of nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and six walks over just eight innings in two starts against the Dodgers during the regular season.
Sep 22 2014Lynn worked six innings in Sunday's loss to the Reds, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks while racking up nine strikeouts. The three earned runs that Lynn gave up Sunday night matched the same total he had allowed during his last three starts combined. The big right-hander has been not just the Cardinals most reliable starter here in the second half, but one of best in the NL. Over 13 outings since the break, Lynn has posted an impressive 2.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 8.1 K/9 across 83 innings. He is scheduled to be back atop the mound Saturday in Arizona.
Sep 16 2014Lynn gave up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in seven innings Tuesday against the Brewers. The Cardinals' bullpen (Trevor Rosenthal) gave up the lead, denying Lynn of his 16th win of the season. It was easy to point to Lynn's solid strikeout rate and suggest he'd be a valuable fantasy pitcher once again this season, but hardly anyone could have predicted he'd have a sub-3.00 ERA, and that should be the case, as he currently boasts a 2.68 ERA with two starts left on the schedule. He'll take the mound next on Monday in Chicago and then will pitch the Cardinals' final game of the regular season Sept. 28 in Arizona.
Sep 12 2014Lynn (15-9) took a tough-luck loss in Cincinnati on Thursday, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out six in an eight-inning complete game.Unfortunately, Johnny Cueto was one better, as he didn't allow any runs at all in his eight innings despite serving up the same amount of hits and walks. Nonetheless, Lynn continues to deliver quality starts (six straight now) and push his ERA down; at 2.73, he's in a tie with Zack Greinke for sixth-best in the National League. Lynn is scheduled for a home date against the Brewers on Wednesday.
Sep 6 2014Lynn improved to 15-8 with a victory over the Brewers on Saturday night. He struck out six and walked four, navigating through a few bumpy frames en route to a six-inning performance where he gave up three runs -- one earned -- on five hits. Lynn will face the Reds at Great American Ballpark on Thursday in his next scheduled start.

Aug 26 2014Lynn went six innings Tuesday, giving up two runs on six hits while walking three and fanning three in a no-decision against the Pirates.Lynn showed tremendous control, getting ahead of batters frequently with 22-of-28 first-pitch strikes. Despite missing out on the win, he's 14-8 on the season with a 2.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 147 K's in 164.2 innings, making him a solid second fiddle behind ace Adam Wainwright in the Cards' rotation.
Aug 20 2014Lynn pitched seven shutout-innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five batters before picking up his 14th win (14-8) of the year in Wednesday's game against the Reds.Lynn continues to be an anchor in the Cardinals' rotation and has given up only 11 earned runs in his last nine starts (spanning 54.1 innings). With a 2.78 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 144:57 K:BB ratio in 158.2 innings pitched this year, Lynn is as reliable as they come. His next start is set for Tuesday on the road against the Pirates.
Aug 15 2014Lynn gave up one run on six hits while striking out six hitters, as he picked up his 13th win on the season against the Padres on Friday. It was a fantastic bounce-back game for Lynn who suffered previously in his last less-than-stellar outing. Lynn (2.91 ERA) threw 102 pitches on the night where he didn't have an issue staying ahead of Padres' hitters. Lynn will take the mound next Wednesday against the Reds.
Aug 10 2014Lynn surrendered nine hits and three earned runs while fanning six batters and walking one in 5.2 innings against Baltimore on Sunday.Lynn wasn't at his best, but the Cardinals got the job done at the plate and helped him improve his record to 12-8. Sunday's start broke a run of six straight outings in which Lynn had allowed two or fewer earned runs, but fantasy owners can't complain too much. The right-hander has been as solid as ever since the All-Star break, giving up just eight earned runs over 31 innings in a span of five starts. What's more, Lynn has a very fantasy-friendly matchup coming up at home against San Diego on Friday.
Aug 6 2014Lynn pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk, while striking out four batters in picking up a no-decision in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.Lynn has been pitching pretty consistently of late, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) in his last six starts (spanning 38.2 innings). There is not much to complain about with Lynn, as he has 11 wins on the year to go with a 2.89 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 127:53 K:BB ratio in 140 innings pitched this season. Lynn's next start is set for Sunday on the road against the Orioles.
Aug 1 2014Lynn's next start has been pushed back to next Tuesday against the Red Sox, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.John Lackey, whom the Cards acquired from the Red Sox on Sunday, hasn't pitch since last Saturday and the team understandably doesn't want to give him 10 days between starts. Thus, the Cards will start Lackey in Sunday's finale against Milwaukee and move Lynn to Tuesday.
Jul 23 2014Lynn (11-7) got the loss Wednesday against the Rays, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.A bit of a tough luck loss for Lynn who pitched well enough to keep St. Louis in it, but the offense failed to score for him. The right-hander has gone at least six innings and allowed no more than two runs in all four July starts. He has a 1.75 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 25.2 innings over that time. Lynn will pitch Tuesday in San Diego.
Jul 21 2014Lynn will get the start Wednesday as Shelby Miller will be skipped this time through the Cardinals rotation, MLB.com reports.Lynn's start will come five days after his last so there should be no issues from a fatigue standpoint.
Jul 18 2014Lynn picked up his 11th win on the season as he gave up two runs over six innings, while striking out nine and walking four against the Dodgers on Friday. It was a solid effort from Lynn who now is among the league leaders in wins, but he still walks far too many hitters with 46 over 120.2 innings. Consider Lynn an upper-tier option for the remainder of the season, even with his propensity to give out too many free passes.
Jul 15 2014Lynn will take the mound in the Cardinals' first game out of the All-Star break Friday versus the Dodgers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. With more than a week between starts, the well-rested right-hander will open the second half for the Cardinals. In four career nods against the Dodgers, Lynn is 2-1 record with a 4.95 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB in 20 innings.
Jul 10 2014Lynn allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings Tuesday against the Pirates.Lynn improves to 10-6 on the season, his third year in a row notching 10 wins before the All-Star break. Jul 5 2014Lynn struck out six and walked three while giving up five hits over 6.2 scoreless innings Friday to earn his ninth win of the season. After getting roughed up in his previous start due in part to a blister on his pitching hand, Lynn rebounded in a big way with a home matchup against the Marlins. He'll close out his first half with another home start Wednesday against the Pirates.
Jul 4 2014Lynn (finger) has been confirmed as Friday's starter against the Marlins.Lynn developed a blister during his last start, causing him to lose his feel for his breaking pitch. The Dodgers took advantage and smacked Lynn around for seven runs in just two innings, but it seems he's better following treatment, though there's always a chance the blister could resurface Friday.
Jun 30 2014Lynn received treatment for a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn said he lost the feel for his breaking ball on Saturday due to the blister which partially explains his horrendous outing. It's unlikely that he will miss a start.
Jun 28 2014Lynn got rocked by the Dodgers on Saturday, giving up a staggering nine hits and seven runs in just two innings of a 61-pitch loss. He walked two and managed a pair of strikeouts, also. This was undoubtedly the worst start of the campaign for the fourth-year big leaguer, as the two innings pitched and six earned runs were both season worsts. The second inning was a six-run debacle for Lynn, as seven hits and two wild pitches effectively derailed his day at Dodger Stadium. He's next scheduled for a date with the Marlins on Friday at Busch Stadium, so hopefully some home cooking will help him improve upon his 3.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 8-6 record.
Jun 23 2014Lynn was masterful against the Rockies on Monday, throwing eight-plus scoreless innings on only three hits with no walks.Lynn and the Cardinals are the first team to blank the Rockies in Colorado since July of 2013. This marks the second time in three starts that Lynn has allowed zero runs over at least eight innings. The right-hander now sports an 8-5 record with a 2.90 ERA and an 89:35 strikeout to walk ratio over 99.1 innings. Lynn will get his second start of the week Saturday against the Dodgers.
Jun 18 2014Lynn (7-5) allowed five hits, four walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts over six innings Wednesday against the Mets.Lynn has lost three of his four June outings, but since getting lit up for seven runs by the Giants on June 6, he's surrendered just four earned runs over his last 19 innings. The 27-year-old now owns a 3.15 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the season, to go along with a 82:35 K:BB ratio over 91.1 innings. He's projected for two starts next week, but will face tough matchups on the road against the Rockies and Dodgers.
Jun 13 2014Lynn cruised to his seventh victory of the season, giving up just two hits while striking out eight across eight scoreless frames in Friday's 1-0 win over the Nationals. Now holding a solid 7-4 record with a 3.16 ERA and 8.1 K/9, Lynn continues to be a strong mid-rotation hurler for the Cardinals and fantasy owners alike. Though battling inconsistency at times, especially with his command, the big right-hander is awfully tough on opposing hitters when he finds a groove. Lynn is next scheduled to toe the rubber Wednesday afternoon against the Mets.
Jun 6 2014Lynn (6-4) allowed two runs on six hits, walking four and striking out six but lasted just five innings in a 3-1 loss to Toronto on Friday night. He was not at all sharp in this one, needing 110 pitches (just 60 strikes) to get through five innings, and the Blue Jays had him on the ropes most of the night as they stranded nine base runners in the first four innings. There was some concern about some knee problems but the Cardinals have indicated he has no medical issues. Still, he has not been especially effective in his last couple of outings, and might be somewhat risky in his next start at home against the Nationals.
Jun 2 2014The tests on Lynn's knee came back negative Monday and he will make his next scheduled start, Fox Sports Midwest's Jim Hayes reports. He only lasted 3.1 innings Sunday, prompting the Cardinals to look into his health, specifically his knee, but it seems there was nothing medically wrong with the 27-year-old righty. His 19.8 percent K-rate is the lowest of his big-league career, and his 1.37 WHIP is a career high, but his 3.48 ERA and six wins have still been quite useful in most formats. However, even with him expected to toe the rubber Friday in Toronto, given the way the Blue Jays have been abusing pitchers lately, it would be wise to leave Lynn on the bench.
Jun 2 2014Lynn will see a doctor regarding a potential knee issue, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.Lynn cashed in his shortest outing of the season Sunday, giving up four earned runs over 3.1 innings. An injury potentially could have had something to do with this, so he'll get his knee checked out as a precaution. Consider his next start up in the air until more concrete information becomes available.
Jun 1 2014Lynn was hit hard Sunday in his first start after his first career shutout, only recording 10 outs while surrendering seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and four walks in the loss to San Francisco.Lynn struck out just two and didn't have his best stuff today as his ERA rose to 3.48 on the season. He'll take a 3.60 ERA into his next start.
May 16 2014Lynn tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in Friday's 5-2 victory over the Braves.Though his typical whiffs were not present, which is definitely surprising against the free-swinging Braves, Lynn still put together a solid seven frames en route to victory number five on the season. Now holding a respectable 3.67 ERA and a strong 8.8 K/9 across 54 innings, the 27-year-old hurler should remain a nice option for fantasy owners in most formats.
May 10 2014Lynn struck out five and walked two while giving up four runs on nine hits over six innings in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.Through eight starts this season, Lynn's strikeout rate (9.6 K/9) and walk rate (3.3 BB/9) are right in line with his career levels (9.2 and 3.3, respectively). Skills wise, he appears to have stabilized working mostly with a four-seam fastball and slider, while mixing in the occasional curveball and changeup. Lynn will face the D-Backs at Busch Stadium in his next scheduled start Wednesday.
May 5 2014Lynn tossed six innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts Sunday night versus the Cubs.In his third season as a fixture in the Cardinals' rotation, Lynn continues to be a solid performer atop the mound. Apr 29 2014Lynn gave up three earned runs on five hits, walking two and fanning four in Tuesday's no decision against the Brewers. After starting the season a perfect 4-0, Lynn has gone winless in his last two starts. He's been just fine in those two outings, allowing only five earned runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out 13, so owners have nothing to worry about - especially since his 40 K's are sixth among NL starters. Lynn will look to further improve upon his 3.60 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his next start Monday at the Braves.
Apr 24 2014Lynn (4-1) took his first-ever April loss Thursday against the Mets, allowing three runs (two earned) in 6.1 innings. He struck out nine, surrendering four hits and two walks.Despite the losing effort, this was Lynn's second-best game of the year in terms of WHIP, and his 36 strikeouts in 30 innings are certainly getting the job done. He'll draw the surprising Brewers next week.
Apr 14 2014Lynn was masterful Monday, shutting out the Brewers for seven innings while striking out 11.Lynn now has three wins in three starts, but was sharp for the first time Monday. Lynn will look for win No. 4 when he takes on the Nationals this weekend.
Apr 8 2014Although he was roughed up for three runs in the first inning Tuesday, Lynn picked up his second win in as many starts as the Cards came from behind to beat the Reds, 7-5 .He ended up allowing five runs on five hits while sitting down four in six innings of work before turning the reins over to the bullpen. Owners won't love that Lynn tossed just 65 percent of his pitches for strikes in this one, but will take the win regardless. He is now 2-0 on the season and is slated to open next week's series against the Brewers at Miller Park.
Apr 3 2014Lynn won his first start of the year Thursday, though he only lasted five innings -- throwing a highly inefficient 107 pitches -- and allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk. However, he struck out seven. This was not Lynn's finest hour -- especially when he surrendered back-to-back homers to Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier -- but the Cards' offense gave him a boost. Lynn won 15 games last year and 18 the year before, and ought to accumulate wins in the high teens again this season even if he's unable to improve his so-so rate stats.
Mar 26 2014Lynn gave up three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight in Tuesday's loss to Miami.Lynn finishes his spring with 27 strikeouts in 16.2 innings for the Cardinals. Mar 25 2014Lynn will get his final spring start Tuesday and is expected to start in the Cardinals third game of the season, MLB.com reports. He will likely have to throw on the side once between now and then. Mar 11 2014Lynn has struggled so far in spring training, giving up five earned runs on seven hits in only 3.1 innings.Regardless of the numbers he puts up this spring, Lynn is likely to be a top-50 fantasy starting pitcher once again in 2014. In both of his first two full seasons as a starter, he recorded a sub-four ERA, 180+ strikeouts and 15+ wins.
Oct 25 2013Lynn will start Game 4 of the World Series, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. With the Cardinals picking up a win in Boston, Adam Wainwright is no longer an option to start on short rest in Game 4. Sep 28 2013In his final start of the season, Lynn tossed six shutout innings and gave up just four hits with no walks and nine strikeouts against the Cubs as the Cardinals clinched the NL Central on Friday.Lynn opened up the season strong for the first two months and posted a 7-1 record by the end of May. But he labored through June, July and August and never saw his ERA drop below 4.83 for any of the three months, making him a bit of a risky play. But he finished the season strong, posting a 2.12 ERA with 36 strikeouts over 29.2 innings in September and pulled his overall ERA just under 4.00 for the year. He heads into the playoffs now looking as sharp as he ever was.
Sep 21 2013Lynn allowed one run over 6.1 innings and was the winning pitcher Saturday against the Brewers. He gave up four hits while walking four and striking out seven. Sep 11 2013Lynn went six innings Wednesday, giving up one run (zero earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out 10 in the win over Milwaukee.Lynn got back on track after giving up four runs or more in his last five previous starts. Even with this start, his ERA is almost a whole run higher post-All-Start break than it was prior. It was a similar story last year, so he may be labeled a first-half pitcher if he doesn't buck this trend next season.
Sep 5 2013Lynn had another rough outing Thursday, surrendering four runs, seven hits and four walks in just five innings at Cincinnati. He did manage to strike out six batters.Lynn wasn't awful, but three solo home runs were his downfall. He hasn't won since August 4, and has given up 23 runs over his last 27.1 innings (five starts). He will face another important NL Central opponent in Cincinnati in his next start.
Aug 25 2013Lynn fell to 13-8 Sunday as he gave up four earned runs on nine hits over seven innings against Atlanta.Lynn struck out five in this one, but was otherwise rather mediocre. He has a chance to rack up some more Ks his next time out, Sunday at home against the free-swinging Braves.
Aug 15 2013Lynn allowed four runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings Thursday against the Pirates. He struck out six, walked one and didn't receive a decision in the eventual extra-inning win.Lynn's had a very inconsistent season, alternating periods of dominance with rough patches, and he's been trending downward in his last two starts, walking five Aug. 9 against the Cubs and now looking awful hittable against Pittsburgh.
Aug 9 2013Lynn struck out five and walked five while giving up three runs on three hits over 6.2 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Friday night. While the line does not look particular strong, Lynn pitched well enough to keep the Cards in the game and was credited with a pair of earned runs upon departing in the seventh inning with the bases loaded. Lynn lines up to face the Pirates on Wednesday or Thursday next week, depending on how manager Mike Matheny sets up his rotation with an off-day on the schedule Monday.
Aug 5 2013Lynn collected his 13th win of the season, holding the Reds to just two runs over eight innings while striking out 11 in the Cardinals' 15-2 win Sunday.Lynn also walked just two batters. Jul 20 2013Lynn allowed four runs on six hits in five innings against the Padres on Saturday to take his fifth loss of the season. He walked three batters and only struck out one over his 91 pitches. The loss was his fourth in five starts as his run support has dissipated. He also has not pitched well in those five starts. He may have a 21:10 K:BB over that stretch, but opposing batters are hitting better than .300 against him. He will try to right the ship against the Phillies next time.
Jul 13 2013Lynn allowed six runs, five earned, over 4.1 innings and was the losing pitcher Saturday against the Cubs.He gave up 10 hits while walking one and striking out two. Lynn has been very inconsistent over his last seven starts, having five starts in which he has allowed four or more runs and then two starts in which he allowed two or less runs. His record on the season now stands at 11-4 to accompany a 3.92 ERA and 115 strikeouts.
Jul 7 2013Lynn finally got back into the win column Sunday as he pitched seven strong innings while giving up two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking just one. After going win-less since June 20, Lynn finally rebounded from two tough outings with an absolute gem Sunday against the Marlins. He'll face the Cubs at Wrigley Field in his next start, which is always an interesting place for a pitcher depending on which way the wind is blowing.
Jul 2 2013Lynn (10-3) took his second straight loss Tuesday, scattering nine hits and five earned runs over 6.0 innings. After starting the season 10-1, Lynn has been knocked around a bit in his last two starts, allowing a combined nine earned runs on 14 hits. The 26-year-old has had just two outings this season in which he recorded fewer than four strikeouts, and his 3.75 ERA is nothing to be ashamed of.
Jun 26 2013Lynn (10-2) last 7.2 innings Wednesday, giving up four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four in the loss to the Astros.Lynn had a roller coaster outing Wednesday, cruising through three innings before giving up all four earned runs in the fourth, then settling down until his departure in the eighth. Walks continue to be an issue for Lynn this year (3.43 BB/9), but he has been doing a great job of not letting those free passes come back to bite him. The rest of his peripherals look great, and he will look to continue his solid first half against the Angels on Tuesday.
Jun 20 2013Lynn notched his 10th win of the season on Thursday against the Cubs after allowing one run over six innings.Lynn only allowed three hits and two walks and added six strikeouts and is now tied for the NL-lead in wins. The only run scored in the game came on a solo home run by Welington Castillo in the second inning. Lynn is 10-1 this year with a 3.42 ERA and is a key member for the Cardinals' rotation. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the light-hitting Astros in Houston.
Jun 15 2013Lynn allowed seven runs over five innings and was the winning pitcher Saturday against the Marlins. He gave up nine hits while walking three and striking out six. This is definitely one of the poorer starts from a starting pitcher this season that resulted in that pitcher still earning a win. The win brings his season record to an impressive 9-1 to go along with a 3.56 ERA and 88 strikeouts.
Jun 10 2013Lynn didn't have his best stuff on Sunday, surrendering four earned runs across six innings in a no-decision against Cincinnati. The Cardinals went on to win the game in extras to bail out Lynn who was on the hook for the loss. He struck out six and now owns a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP for the season.
Jun 3 2013Lynn tossed seven innings of one-run ball and picked up his eighth win of the season in Monday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.Lynn struck out six batters and allowed just six baserunners, producing a quality start for the eighth time in his last nine tries. While last year's late season decline will likely prompt questions about whether Lynn can sustain this level of performance throughout an entire season, there's no longer any doubt that he has the skill to produce ace-caliber numbers.
May 30 2013Lynn gave up two runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts over seven innings against the Royals on Wednesday.Another solid outing for Lynn who has now posted seven quality starts over his last eight and lowered his ERA to a 2.91 mark with a 70:25 K:BB over 68 innings this year. He'll look to grab his eighth win of the season when he faces the Diamondbacks next week but he'll need to do better than his last start against them in which he gave up four runs on six hits and three walks over four innings.
May 24 2013Lynn struck out nine and allowed just two hits in 6.0 innings Friday.Lynn got the win in the 7-0 victory, improving his record to 7-1 on the season. The 26-year-old has allowed just two home runs in 29.0 innings.

May 13 2013Lynn earned a victory Monday against the Mets as he pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, four hits and five walks to go along with seven strikeouts.Lynn's excellent season continued Monday as he already has six wins to go along with a 2.88 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Look for him to continue to be a reliable fantasy option as the season progresses.
May 8 2013Lynn gave up two runs on four hits and one walk, while recording nine strikeouts in seven innings, during the Cardinals' tight loss Tuesday to the Cubs. While Lynn's outing was overly impressive, as always, he was outpitched by Cubs starter Travis Wood, taking his first loss of the season. Lynn himself has tossed four consecutive quality starts, each lasting seven innings, racking up 30 strikeouts in 28 frames. His next nod arrives Sunday against the Mets, who tagged him for two earned runs and a 3:4 K:BB ratio over 4.2 innings in his sole career start.
May 1 2013Lynn struck out five and walked two while giving up one run on five hits over seven innings to earn his fifth win of the season Wednesday against the Reds.Although it wasn't as good as the 10-strikeout performance Lynn delivered against the Reds on April 9, he's now given up one earned run or less in four of his last five starts. He'll look for his sixth win of the season Tuesday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Apr 27 2013Lynn gave up just one run on two hits and three walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings against the Pirates on Friday. This was a great follow-up game from Lynn's dominant performance last Saturday against the Phillies. In fact, Lynn had a 14.2 scoreless inning streak going until Pedro Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Lynn may be pitching a little over his head right now, but the drop-off we may see shouldn't be all that much. His value should hold steady and he should be a trusted starter in your rotation. He'll get the Reds next, a team he held to one run with 10 strikeouts over six innings the last time they met.
Apr 20 2013Lynn fired seven shutout innings allowing only one hit and three walks and struck out eight in earning his third win of the season Saturday against the Phillies.Lynn was dominant on Saturday allowing his first hit in the fifth to John Mayberry Jr. He has a 3.68 ERA on the season and has had two excellent starts and two rough starts to date. He threw a season-high 107 pitches with 68 of those going for strikes. Playing with a strong Cardinals offense behind him, Lynn can rack up the wins on the mound as he proved last season with 18. His next start will come on Friday against the Pirates.
Apr 15 2013Lynn earned the win Monday despite not being at his best, allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings of work.Lynn has now had two bad starts and one good in this season. After being removed from the rotation last year, Lynn has a 5.40 ERA and 1.60 WHIP through his first 15 innings pitched. He will look to improve those figures against the Phillies this weekend.
Apr 9 2013Lynn tossed a gem Tuesday, posting 10 strikeouts in six innings, as St. Louis cruised to victory over Cincinnati. Overall, he garnered his first win of the 2013 campaign, while yielding one run on four hits and one walk.In a pitcher's duel of sorts early, Lynn set down the first 10 Reds, seven of them via strikeout, before his sole earned run crossed the plate. In the end, he exhibited far better control than his first nod of 2013, throwing 66 strikes in 101 pitches. His upcoming start occurs early next week in Pittsburgh, where he's achieved great success - a 1.74 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 10.1 career innings.
Apr 4 2013Lynn didn't fair well in his season debut Wednesday, giving up four runs on six hits over four innings. He walked three batters and struck out three in the 16-inning loss to the Diamondbacks. It was a tale of two seasons for Lynn in 2012, and Wednesday's performance was more indicative of the second half in which he faltered down stretch. It is still too early to make a definitive decision on what kind of pitcher Lynn will be this year after just one start, so we suggest holding tight for now. His next outing comes against Cincinnati next Tuesday.
Mar 12 2013Lynn gave up one run on two hits while striking out one and walking one in four innings against the Yankees on Monday. There's little doubt about Lynn's rotation spot to begin the year, and he continues to come at a reasonable price in most drafts despite carrying a 9.2 K/9 as a starter for the Cards last season.
Feb 5 2013With Chris Carpenter now sidelined indefinitely, Lynn's chances for landing a rotation spot have increased markedly.GM John Mozeliak had Lynn as the "front-runner" before this news and while there are still seven possible arms for five spots, Lynn definitely has an inside track after his 2012.
Jan 20 2013Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said Saturday that he views Lynn as the "front-runner" to earn the final spot in the rotation, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. "He deserves that," Mozeliak said. "It's not something that I would advise him to lay down and just think it's his job."Lynn went 8-1 over the first two months of last season and was named an All-Star, but he was moved to the bullpen after a shaky stretch in August. The right-hander bounced back in September, and it now looks like he has the edge in the competition for the No. 5 starter job, but he'll have to fend off Joe Kelly, Trevor Rosenthal and Shelby Miller this spring.
Oct 25 2012Lynn will be brought into spring training conditioned as a starter, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.Lynn spent most of the year in the St. Louis rotation, finishing 18-7 with a 3.78 ERA, but it wasn't all smooth sailing. He'll be given an offseason plan that focuses specifically in his conditioning, as he clearly struggled as the season wore on.
Oct 18 2012Lynn will start Game 5 of the NLCS for the Cardinals, FOX Sports reports.Despite being exiled to the bullpen for a spell late in the regular season, Lynn has seemed to regain the team's trust as a starter, as Friday's start will mark his second of the NLCS. He'll face off against the Giants' Barry Zito.
Oct 12 2012Lynn will start Game 1 of the NLCS if the Cardinals are able to get past the Nationals on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Lynn will not be available out of the bullpen Friday as the team casts an eye toward the Championship Series, which starts Sunday. After replacing an injured Jaime Garcia (shoulder), Lynn pitched three innings to earn the win in Game 2 of the NLDS.
Oct 8 2012Lynn will likely replace Jaime Garcia (shoulder) in the Cardinals' playoff rotation, the Associated Press reports.Garcia was left his start Monday after two innings and is scheduled to have an MRI to assess the situation. Lynn earned the victory in Game 2 against Washington after giving up two runs on three hits over three innings while striking out five and walking one. Although he regressed after the All-Star break, Lynn was strong overall in September with a 34:7 K:BB over 29.1 innings and a 5-2 record (four starts) through eight appearances.
Sep 30 2012Lynn picked up his 18th win of the season in unimpressive fashion, surrendering four runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings, as St. Louis crushed Washington, 10-4.While striking out nine for the second consecutive outing, Lynn also served up a pair of long balls, the first he's allowed in his last five appearances. He finishes his second major league season -- and first as a mostly-regular starter -- with an 18-7 record, 3.78 ERA, 1.318 WHIP, and 180 strikeouts in 176 frames, which should keep him in the Cardinals' rotation for the foreseeable future.
Sep 24 2012Lynn cruised to his 17th win of the season Monday, holding the Astros to one run over seven innings of work.Since rejoining the rotation September 13, Lynn has tossed 19.1 innings of two run ball, allowing a total of 13 hits and striking out 21. His next start will come against the Nationals this weekend.
Sep 22 2012Lynn will start against the Astros on Monday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It looks like Lynn is safely back in the rotation after a stint in the bullpen, and as things line up now he'll get one more start after Monday.
Sep 19 2012Lynn tossed 6.1 innings of shutout ball in a 5-0 win over the Astros on Wednesday.Lynn was starting in place of Jake Wesbtrook (oblique) for the second time in a row and put up another strong outing. With Chris Carpenter (shoulder) set to return Friday, the Cardinals have seven solid starting pitchers. Joe Kelly has already been sent to the bullpen, but it's still not 100 percent clear who will join them there. Given the talent Lynn showed earlier this season, it's hard to imagine that he hasn't pitched his way back into the rotation. That would likely leave either Jake Westbrook or Jaime Garcia as the odd man out.
Sep 13 2012Lynn pitched well against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing just one run and five hits over six innings. He struck out seven, tossing just 82 pitches.Lynn made a spot start for an injured Jake Westbrook (oblique), and looked good in his first starting nod since August 18. Westbrook's injury doesn't appear to be too serious though, and if that's the case, Lynn will head back to a relief role.
Sep 10 2012Lynn will start Thursday against the Dodgers, B.J. Rains of FOXSportsMidwest.com reports.Lynn will indeed oppose Josh Beckett in place of the injured Jake Westbrook (oblique). Lynn, who was chosen as an All-Star this season, will start for the first time since Aug. 18.
Sep 10 2012With Jake Westbrook (oblique) definitely missing Thursday's start, a spot start has opened up for Lynn, Shelby Miller, or Trevor Rosenthal, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn has had success as a starter this season, but he's worn down significantly and might be better used in the bullpen right now. Westbrook is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, and that could inform manager Mike Matheny's decision on the open spot, especially if it's determined that Westbrook will miss the rest of the season.
Aug 30 2012Lynn struggled pitching out of the bullpen Thursday, allowing two runs, two hits and a pair of walks in just one inning of action. It wasn't a high leverage situation for Lynn, who was recently replaced by Joe Kelly in the rotation. At this point, it doesn't look like Lynn will return to a starting role unless an injury occurs.
Aug 25 2012Lynn will be replaced by Joe Kelly next time through the Cardinals' rotation, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Lynn posted a 6.56 ERA in five August starts, so manager Mike Matheny opted to change up the rotation and give Lynn a break. Matheny will evaluate Kelly's status in the rotation on a start-by-start basis, so there is a chance Lynn could regain his starting role before the end of the season. However, for now, he will pitch out of the bullpen, which will put a dent in his fantasy value.
Aug 25 2012Lynn was battered for four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out one while lasting only two innings plus two batters in his start against the Reds on Friday night.Another ugly outing for Lynn who now sports a 3.93 ERA after being the talk of the fantasy world in the first half. His marginal secondary pitches appear to be problematic at this stage of the season, so he will attempt to get back on track in his next start in Pittsburgh.
Aug 18 2012Lynn allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Pirates.Lynn struck out eight batters, but was removed from the game with a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning. You can't blame manager Mike Matheny for being quick with the hook, given Lynn's recent performances, but fantasy owners would like to see him get a chance to earn the win.
Aug 16 2012Thoguh Lynn appears to be getting worn down, he'll stay in the rotation for now, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. There has been some speculation that he'd go into the bullpen, especially with Jaime Garcia returning soon, but the Cardinals like Lynn where he is.
Aug 12 2012Lynn gave up four runs on four hits and two walks Sunday against the Phillies, walking away with a no-decision.Lynn has given up four or more runs in three of his last four starts. The overall numbers are still good, but this was a pretty mediocre start.
Aug 7 2012Lynn took the loss against the Giants Tuesday, dropping his record to 13-5. He gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out six batters and walking three over six innings.Lynn struggled in the first inning giving up three hits, with the big blow being dealt via a longball by Buster Posey. The Lance Lynn we are seeing now (3.52 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) is closer to his real value than what we saw in the first half. He gets the Phils in Philadelphia this Saturday.
Aug 2 2012Lynn did not factor in Thursday's decision after tossing six innings of two-run ball. He issued four walks and struck out four.Lynn allowed a ton of baserunners, but was able to work in and out of a few jams, minimizing the damage. He's been very inconsistent in his last eight starts with four good outings and four terrible appearances.
Jul 22 2012Lynn tossed six shutout innings Sunday for his 12th victory of the season as the Cardinals took out the Cubs.Lynn, who yielded four hits and three walks to go with five strikeouts, has now allowed just one run in his last 19 innings. During that span, he is 2-2 with a 0.47 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 22:5 K:BB ratio. Lynn should find success yet again Friday versus the Cubs.
Jul 16 2012Lynn struck out 10 and gave up one run on six hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the Brewers.Despite another very strong showing, Lynn was on track to take the loss before the Cards rallied for three runs against Milwaukee closer John Axford in the ninth inning. The extra day of rest following the All-Star break certainly seemed to pay off for Lynn on Monday night, as he was still hitting 95 mph with his fastball during the seventh inning.
Jul 14 2012Lynn has been moved back from his scheduled start Saturday to Monday in order provide extra rest, the Cards' official site reports.Kyle Lohse will start in Lynn's place, while this appears to be a simple move to limit Lynn's workload a bit as he wasn't used as a starter during his time with the Cards last season and fatigue in the second half could become something of an issue for him later in the year.
Jul 6 2012Lynn stopped a three-game slide with six scoreless innings Thursday, improving his record to 11-4 on the season.Lynn gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out seven. His appeared to be exposed a bit in his previous three starts (15.1 innings, 25 hits, seven walks, 17 runs), so Thursday's performance is a welcome sight.
Jun 30 2012Lynn was roughed up in Saturday's loss to the Pirates, allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks.Though Lynn proved to be a capable source of strikeouts with six on the day, his performance free fall continues. Lynn has now given up five or more runs in his last three starts, raising his ERA from 2.80 and 3.62. An ERA in the mid-to-high threes is probably a more accurate reflection of the type of pitcher that Lynn is.
Jun 24 2012Lynn took a no-decision Sunday against Kansas City, allowing six runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings. The Royals were crushing the ball off Lynn, including three home runs (Mike Moustakas twice, Jeff Francoeur once). Lynn has now allowed 11 runs in his last two starts and one would imagine the phrase "regression to the mean" will start following him wherever he goes soon.
Jun 13 2012Lynn struck out a career-high 11 as he picked up the win over the White Sox on Wednesday.Lynn keeps rolling along for the Cardinals. He might not be reeling off the one-run games as he did to start the season, but his performance is real and the regression shouldn't be too much.
Jun 7 2012Lynn struck out a career-high 11 batters in Thursday's start at Houston. He allowed just two runs and six hits over six innings en route to tying R.A Dickey for the MLB lead in wins with nine.Lynn gave up a run in each of the first two innings, but settled down beautifully, retiring 13 of the final 16 batters he faced. Lynn has shown some serious upside in 74.1 innings this year, and has been consistent as well, not allowing more than four runs in any of his 12 starts. That said, the big righty's high strand rate and low BABIP and HR/FB point to imminent regression. He's also never been this good in the minors.
Jun 2 2012Lynn allowed three runs (two earned) over 4.2 innings and was the losing pitcher Saturday against the Mets.He gave up five hits while walking four and striking out three. On paper it seems surprising that Lynn could not at least reach the fifth inning, but when he was pulled, his pitch count was at 105 as he struggled with his control throughout the start. The loss drops his record to 8-2 on the season to accompany a strong ERA of 2.63.
May 28 2012Lynn struck out eight and walked one while giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings to improve to 8-1 for the season Monday with a win over Atlanta. It was another strong outing for Lynn, who threw 71 of his 107 pitches for strikes and matched his season-high with the eight strikeouts. Lynn's successful transition to the rotation has certainly helped ease the loss of Chris Carpenter to this point, but it will be interesting to see how he fares as the season rolls along after throwing 109.2 innings between Memphis and St. Louis in 2011.
May 24 2012Lynn didn't pitch his best for the second straight time, but still managed to push his record to 7-1 on the season with a win Wednesday against the Padres.Lynn finished his night with six innings of three-run ball, but he struck out just three batters and gave up eight hits to go along with three free passes. This might be your last chance to sell Lynn based on his absurd start to the season.
May 19 2012Lynn gave up four runs off nine hits and two walks while striking out five through six innings against the Dodgers on Friday. After opening the season with six straight wins and not having given up more than two runs in any outing, Lynn has now served up seven runs combined in his last two games. Regression was to be expected from Lynn, but he actually hasn't pitched that poorly these last two starts. Still, he's probably a great sell-high candidate at this time.
May 14 2012Lynn picked up his first loss of the season Sunday, giving up three third-inning runs in his six innings of work. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out seven.Lynn basically had one bad inning, though the Braves worked the count during the entirety of his start - he needed 122 pitches to get through six innings.
May 2 2012Lynn kept on rolling in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. He gave up two earned runs over 6.2 innings and struck out six.Lynn has now lowered his season ERA to 1.60 and his WHIP to 0.77. With each and every start, it becomes less and less likely he'll be the one losing his rotation spot whenever Chris Carpenter (shoulder) returns.
Apr 25 2012Lynn struck out seven over eight innings of one-run ball Wednesday against the Cubs for his fourth win in as many starts. He allowed six hits and two walks.Bryan LaHair did all the damage against Lynn with a solo homer. With just four runs allowed in four starts, Lynn's been one of the best -- and most surprising -- pitchers in baseball early in this season. Of course, Lynn's sub-.200 BABIP and 99 percent strand rate so far are obviously unsustainable. It remains to be seen whether these performances are sustainable; Lynn was never remotely close to being this unhittable in the minor leagues, and his control always left something to be desired as well.
Apr 20 2012Lynn improved to 3-0 on the young season, allowing just one run on four hits, walking one and striking out four over seven innings of a 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Friday. With Chris Carpenter hurt and Adam Wainwright struggling to regain his form after 2011 Tommy John surgery, Lynn has been a pleasant surprise for the red-hot Cardinals. He'll face the Cubs in Chicago in his next scheduled start.
Apr 14 2012Lynn pitched well in a 5-1 win against Chicago on Saturday, striking out five batters while allowing four hits, two walks, and a run over 5.1 inningsLynn is making a smooth transition to the rotation, and has picked up the win in both of his starts. He is certainly worth keeping an eye on, and is making a case to stick around in the rotation even after Chris Carpenter returns, which doesn't appear to be anytime soon.
Apr 9 2012Lynn was brilliant in his 2012 debut Sunday, giving up just two hits, one walk, and one run in 6.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn struck out eight in the effort. With Chris Carpenter's return date unknown, Lynn could be in line for a fine season.
Mar 20 2012Lynn threw five innings Monday. He was perfect through four innings before giving up a run on a couple of hits in the fifth. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn has been excellent this spring as he prepares to possibly take Chris Carpenter's spot in the rotation. He's struck out eight and walked just one in 11 innings and has a 1.64 ERA and 0.818 WHIP. Carpenter hasn't been ruled out for Opening Day yet, but if he has to miss a start or two, it looks like Lynn will be able to step into his shoes temporarily.
Mar 15 2012Lynn threw three scoreless innings Wednesday. He struck out three and walked none. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was pressed into service with Chris Carpenter (neck) on the shelf. If Carpenter isn't ready to go when the season starts, Lynn will be in the rotation.
Mar 13 2012Lynn will switch over to a starter's program this week in order to provide the Cards with a contingency plan in the event that Chris Carpenter isn't ready to start the season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Mike Matheny said that Lynn will make a start in the near future, with the pitcher indicating that may come on Wednesday. Either way, the change in gears shouldn't be a major deal for Lynn, given that he was a starter throughout his minor league career before being moved to the bullpen last season in the bigs.
Feb 24 2012Lynn (hamstring) threw a complete bullpen session Thursday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn, who skipped his bullpen session Tuesday, looks good to go for the start of spring training.
Feb 21 2012Lynn will not throw his scheduled bullpen session Tuesday due to a sore hamstring, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Further details of the injury were not available, but it looks like the Cardinals are taking the cautious route with camp just underway. Lynn, considered day-to-day, will attempt to throw again Thursday.
Oct 10 2011The Cardinals activated Lynn (oblique) from the disabled list Sunday and added him to their roster for the NLCS, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn had been sidelined since August due to a strained left oblique muscle.
Sep 2 2011Lynn (oblique strain) has been transferred to the 60-Day DL, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move closes the book on the 2011 season for Lynn, who last pitched on Aug. 9. Lynn will finish 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 18 appearances, in which he struck out 40 and allowed 25 hits in 34.2 innings.
Aug 15 2011The pain in Lynn's oblique is now confined to just twisting moves, and he's optimistic that he'll be able to return in September, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The pain was so great when he suffered the injury Tuesday that he had difficulty breathing for about 10 minutes. The Cardinals have plenty of eighth-inning options right now, but Lynn has a 1.04 WHIP and an outstanding 40/11 K/BB ratio in 34.2 innings this year, so the Cardinals want to get him back out there in key situations.
Aug 10 2011Lynn (oblique) has been placed on the 15-day DL, the Cards' official Twitter feed reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Allen Craig was activated from the disabled list to replace Lynn on the roster, so for now the Cards will use his spot for an extra bat.
Aug 9 2011Lynn left Tuesday's game with a left oblique strain, B.J. Rains of FOX Sports Midwest reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He struck out three in his 1.2 innings of work prior to the injury, but he could be headed to the DL.
Aug 5 2011Lynn got the save Friday night against the Marlins because Fernando Salas was unavailable, due to a heavy recent workload, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's outing was pretty sloppy - he allowed a hit and two walks to load the bases - but he finished the game by striking out Mike Stanton. Lynn entered the game with a 3.38 ERA, 35:8 K:BB and a .209 BAA and has taken over the primary set-up duties for the Cards.
Jul 23 2011St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan has confirmed that Lynn is now the primary set-up man for Fernando Salas, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn's usage - pitching in the eighth inning in nearly all of his appearances - should have clued us in to this designation already, but it's nice to hear the pitching coach confirm it. Expect Lynn to rack up the holds and to possibly be next in line to close if Salas loses his job.
Jun 23 2011Lynn has been recalled by the Cards, the Cards' official Twitter feed reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll fill the vacated bullpen role created by the release of Miguel Batista on Wednesday. Lynn was previously a starter with Memphis and for a couple of spot opportunities in St. Louis earlier this season, so he'll likely serve as a long reliever for manager Tony La Russa during this stint.
Jun 6 2011Lynn will get at least one more start for the Cardinals, pitching on Thursday against the Astros, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn, who is up for the injured Kyle McClellan, will probably be replaced by McClellan the following turn through the rotation.
Jun 2 2011Lynn allowed five runs and four hits over 5.1 innings in his major league debut against San Francisco on Thursday. Lynn did not issue a walk and struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn cruised through the first three innings before giving up a two-run homer to Aubrey Huff in the fourth. After a perfect fifth inning, Lynn ran into major trouble in the sixth, and was pulled from the game with a couple of runs in and a runner on second base. Lynn was very efficient, as he tossed just 64 pitches in over five innings of work, and his fastball velocity was solid, working in the 91-94 mph range.
Mar 21 2011The Cardinals optioned Lynn to minor league camp Monday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn impressed early on and was considered a potential rotation candidate for the Cardinals, but he was touched up for six runs over his final eight innings and lost out on the fifth starter spot to Kyle McClellan. Though Lynn will open the year with Triple-A Memphis, he showed enough to garner consideration should the Cardinals need to add a starter at some point during the regular season.
Mar 11 2011Lynn struggled through two innings of work Friday against Detroit the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw 51 pitches against the Tigers before being lifted in the third, and threw a bit more in the bullpen after he left. After a nice outing in his initial spring appearance, he's had two poor outings in a row and doesn't look like he's going to head north with the team, especially with Chris Carpenter (hamstring) pronouncing himself ready to go.
Mar 10 2011Lynn will start Friday's game in place of Chris Carpenter (hamstring), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn is still nominally in the running for the starting spot vacated by Adam Wainwright, but he's more likely to spend the summer with Triple-A Memphis. That said, if Carpenter can't recover in time from his injury, the Cardinals will need another starter.
Mar 5 2011While Kyle McClellan is still the frontrunner for the rotation spot vacated by Adam Wainwright (elbow), Lynn has been impressive so far this spring and may still have a chance to earn the role, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn threw three scoreless innings in relief of fellow candidate Brandon Dickson on Thursday. Dickson has been making noise this spring as well, but it still looks like McClellan is the man to beat.
Feb 17 2011Lynn is making a bid to become the top spot starter with St. Louis this season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cardinals are set with their five starters, but given the amount of injuries they frequently have at the position, they generally need a good "sixth starter" pitching in Triple-A Memphis. Lynn, 13-game winner with Memphis last year, impressed pitching coach Dave Duncan on Wednesday: "He's relaxed. He's throwing the ball well and he obviously did his work before getting here." While veterans Ian Snell and Miguel Batista may have the inside track over Lynn due to their experience, Lynn clearly has the most upside of that trio.
Mar 22 2010Lynn was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn is one of the better pitching prospects in the Cardinals' system. He might find himself in St. Louis making spot starts as early as this summer.
Jun 2 2009Lynn, a 2008 draft pick by the Cardinals, was the organizational pitcher of the month with a 4-0 record and a 2.54 ERA. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn just turned 22 and has been moving up fast. Don't be surprised to see him on a number of prospect lists by next season.
Jun 6 2008Lynn was drafted by the Cardinals in the supplemental first round of the 2008 draft, from the University of Mississippi. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn is very polished and should advance rapidly, although he doesn't throw hard enough to project as a true ace. He fits well into the Cardinals' draft philosophy.
Jun 11 2003The Cardinals have optioned Lynn to Triple-A Memphis, the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn, who made two starts (8:3 K:BB ratio in 10.1 innings) with the big club, going 1-1 with a 5.23 ERA, remains an option the next time the Cards are looking for some rotation help.
Jun 9 2003Lynn earned the first win of his career, tossing five innings of one-run ball Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lynn was respectable in two starts, but is likely to be replaced by Kyle McClellan next week when he is eligible to come off the DL.
