Jun 27 2025Francis (shoulder) resumed playing catch from 60-to-90 feet Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis landed on the 15-day injured list June 17 due to a right shoulder impingement. He was shut down from throwing after receiving a cortisone shot, but he has been given the green light to play catch and will look to progress enough in his recovery to start tossing bullpen sessions. Francis went 2-8 across 14 starts with a 6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 54:27 K:BB in 64 innings prior to landing on the IL.
Jun 20 2025Francis (shoulder) received a cortisone shot recently and will be shut down from throwing for "a few more days," Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder impingement and has yet to resume throwing after receiving a cortisone shot. Without a timetable for return, Francis' recovery will likely stretch into July.
Jun 17 2025The Blue Jays placed Francis on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right shoulder impingement. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis' standing in Toronto's rotation was shaky given his 6.05 ERA through 14 starts, but it'll end up being an injury rather than ineffectiveness that ends up costing him a rotation spot. It's unclear how long the right-hander is expected to be sidelined, but he'll be out for at least the next couple weeks.
Jun 14 2025Francis did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks with four strikeouts over 3.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis cruised through three scoreless innings but hit a wall in the fourth, allowing two runs while putting five straight batters on via walk or hit-by-pitch. The 29-year-old has now failed to complete four frames in three consecutive outings and hasn't delivered a quality start since May 10. On the season, he owns a 6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 54:27 K:BB across 64 innings and can't be relied upon even in a favorable matchup against the White Sox next weekend.
Jun 9 2025Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Francis is slated for now to make his next scheduled start this weekend in Philadelphia, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Schneider didn't seem to rule out changing his mind, but for now it appears Francis will take his next turn in the rotation. The right-hander is on thin ice after posting a 6.12 ERA in his first 13 starts, which includes yielding a major-league leading 19 home runs.
Jun 8 2025Francis (2-8) took the loss against the Twins on Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two across 3.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was another short outing for Francis, who put the Blue Jays behind for good in the fourth inning when he gave up back-to-back solo home runs to Brooks Lee and Christian Vazquez. Francis started the season nicely, but he has given up 10 earned runs over his last five innings, which has inflated his numbers to a 6.12 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 60.1 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, tentatively slated for next weekend on the road against the Phillies.
Jun 4 2025Francis (2-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Phillies, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in 1.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies plated six runs in the first against Francis, which included back-to-back home runs from Trea Turner and Bryce Harper among the six hits they had in the inning. Francis has given up 17 home runs, the most in baseball. He's allowed seven hits or more in four starts and has allowed multiple homers five times. He'll aim to rebound on the road against Minnesota this weekend.
May 27 2025Francis didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing three hits and one walk in five scoreless innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Not only did Francis match a season high in punchouts, but he also registered his first scoreless start of the season among his 11 appearances. The 29-year-old right-hander had tossed at least five innings just once in his prior six outings, so Tuesday was certainly an encouraging bounce-back performance. Francis lowered his ERA to 5.04 along with a 1.36 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB across 55.1 innings in 2025, and he's set for a relatively tough test versus the Athletics his next time out.
May 22 2025Francis left Thursday's 7-6 victory over the Padres with a no-decision, throwing four innings and allowing three hits, two runs and three walks with four strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis was lifted from the ballgame after four solid innings of work Thursday, but not before being Gavin Sheets' first home run victim. The 29-year-old's struggle to keep the ball in the stadium continued as he has now allowed a home run in eight of his 10 starts this season, bringing his total up to a staggering 15 on the year.
May 16 2025Francis (2-6) took the loss against the Tigers on Friday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis gave up solo home runs to Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry in the second and fourth innings, respectively. Francis has given up a league-worst 14 home runs through nine starts this season and has a 5.63 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB across 46.1 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next week at home against the Padres.
May 10 2025Francis allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis earned his third quality start of the season with this effort, which saw him throw 59 of 89 pitches for strikes. He had allowed 11 runs across his previous 7.1 innings before finding some success in Seattle. He's now at a 5.40 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB across 61.2 innings over eight starts this season. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers.
May 4 2025Francis (2-5) took the loss Sunday against the Guardians, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francis has failed to make it through five innings in three straight outings, allowing 14 runs over just 12 innings in that span. His ERA is up to 5.66 this season with a 1.37 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across his first seven starts (35 innings) this year. Francis will look to right the ship in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week in Seattle.
Apr 30 2025Francis (2-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out one over three innings. He did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All seven runs allowed by Francis came via the home run ball. He gave up five home runs, four of them solo shots to go along with a Wilyer Abreu three-run blast before Francis got through the third inning. Francis has now allowed 11 home runs this season, which is the most in baseball, and he has just three strikeouts over his last two starts. He'll look to rebound in a home start against the Guardians this weekend.
