Jun 25 2025Yamamoto (7-6) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six batters over five scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto needed just 56 pitches -- 39 of which were strikes -- to finish five scoreless frames, He almost certainly would have gone longer if not for a rain delay that lasted for about 1.5 hours. Despite the weather-shortened outing, Yamamoto managed to pitch just long enough to qualify for the win, and the victory was his first since May 26 -- a span of five starts. The right-hander owns an outstanding 2.61 ERA on the campaign, and his next start is slated to be a prime matchup against the White Sox at home next week.
Jun 19 2025Yamamoto (6-6) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five over 6.1 innings, taking the loss Thursday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto turned in a quality start, but his rough June continued. He's 0-3 over four starts this month, allowing a total of 12 runs and four homers over 20.2 innings in that span. Yamamoto now has a 2.76 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 95:30 K:BB across 84.2 innings over 15 starts. All of his opponents this month have been north of .500, so that can explain some of the struggles. Yamamoto's next start is projected to be at Colorado -- even factoring in Coors Field, it's an opportunity for him to return to dominance against one of the league's weaker lineups.
Jun 13 2025Yamamoto (6-5) allowed five runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto's five walks were a season high, and that was just part of the sloppiness in this outing. He also allowed multiple homers for the third time this year, including a grand slam to Casey Schmitt in the third inning that accounted for most of the damage. Yamamoto is winless in June, going 0-2 with nine runs allowed and a 15:10 K:BB over 14.1 innings across three starts. Despite the recent struggles, he's at a 2.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 90:30 K:BB through 78.1 innings over 14 starts. Yamamoto is expected to take the mound at some point during next week's home series versus the Padres.
Jun 7 2025Yamamoto came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander generated 32 called or swinging strikes over 94 pitches (61 total strikes), but a lack of run support forced Yamamoto to settle for his eighth quality start of the season rather than his seventh win. He'll take a 2.20 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 86:25 K:BB through 73.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Giants.
Jun 1 2025Yamamoto (6-4) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto failed to complete five innings for the first time this season. He was inefficient, throwing 96 pitches (59 strikes). Yamamoto has looked like one of the best pitchers in the majors this season, but he came up short in a measuring stick matchup against one of the best offenses in baseball. He still has a 2.39 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77:23 K:BB across 67.2 innings through 12 starts. Yamamoto's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Cardinals.
May 26 2025Yamamoto (6-3) earned the win over Cleveland on Monday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto allowed just one extra-base hit (a double) and finished with his third straight quality start. The right-hander has fanned at least six batters in four of his past five outings and moved up to eighth in MLB with 75 strikeouts on the campaign. He also ranks second among qualified NL starters with a 1.97 ERA and ranks fifth in the majors with a 0.91 WHIP to put his name into firm early contention for Cy Young consideration. Yamamoto is tentatively projected for a tough challenge his next time out, as he's lined up to face the Yankees in Los Angeles this weekend.
May 20 2025Yamamoto allowed a hit and two walks while striking out nine over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto didn't allowed a baserunner until the fourth inning, and his no-hit bid was broken up by Ketel Marte's leadoff single in the seventh. Yamamoto wasn't particularly efficient, requiring 110 pitches (62 strikes), but he was excellent in generating his fourth scoreless outing and sixth quality start of the season. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.86 with a 0.91 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB across 58 innings through 10 starts. His next start is projected to be on the road in Cleveland.
May 14 2025Yamamoto (5-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander surrendered five runs in his previous start at Arizona, but he rebounded Wednesday with his fifth quality start of the campaign. Yamamoto's five wins are tied for sixth in MLB, and he has a 2.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 59:16 K:BB through 51 innings this year. A matchup with the Diamondbacks is likely on tap for next week.
May 8 2025Yamamoto (4-3) allowed five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto navigated a little trouble the first time through the order, but the Diamondbacks got to him in the fourth inning. Gabriel Moreno tagged him for a grand slam to open the scoring in that frame, and Ketel Marte added a solo home run an inning later. The five runs allowed were more than Yamamoto had allowed over his last five starts combined, a stretch in which he gave up four runs (one earned) in 30 innings. He's given up a pair of homers in two of his eight starts so far, but he hasn't seen a ball leave the yard in the other six. Even with this season-worst performance, Yamamoto is at a 1.80 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB through 45 innings. He'll look to right the ship versus the Athletics next week.
May 2 2025Yamamoto (4-2) earned the win Friday against Atlanta after allowing one hit and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yamamoto was brilliant against a formidable Atlanta lineup Friday, taking a no-hit bid into the sixth inning en route to matching a career best with one hit allowed. The star right-hander induced 17 whiffs, and he's now registered at least five punchouts in six consecutive starts. Yamamoto has also given up one run or less in six of his seven outings this year, recording a magnificent 0.90 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 49:13 K:BB through his first 40 frames. He'll look to keep the good times rolling next week in a soft matchup against the Marlins.
