Jun 30 2025The Red Sox optioned Kelly (oblique) to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly was pulled from his relief appearance in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays due to right oblique tightness, and though he had been expected to move to the injured list, the Red Sox have instead deactivated him by sending him to the minors. While Kelly is still likely to miss some time as a result of the injury, the Red Sox's decision to option him could imply that the right-hander isn't expected to miss the full 15 days. Boston reinstated right-hander Jordan Hicks (toe) from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.
Jun 29 2025Kelly was removed in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Blue Jays due to right oblique tightness, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. He retired three of the seven batters he faced and allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly appeared to be grabbing at his back when he was lifted in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, but it was apparently his side that was the source of his discomfort. According to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, Kelly is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday as the Red Sox look to determine the extent of the injuries, but given that even mild oblique injuries often require multi-week recoveries, the 30-year-old right-hander may be headed to the 15-day injured list. The Red Sox are planning on bringing right-hander Jordan Hicks (toe) back from the IL during the upcoming week, so Kelly could be placed on the shelf in a corresponding move.
Jun 3 2025The Red Sox recalled Kelly from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly has been touched up for 12 runs (11 earned) over 12 innings for the Red Sox this season. He'll provide the bullpen with a fresh arm.
May 25 2025The Red Sox recalled Kelly from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly will likely be ticketed for a low-leverage role in Boston's bullpen. He's previously made seven relief appearances for the big club this season, logging a 9.00 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB in 10 innings.
