Jun 29 2025Hamilton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton has now hit the bench in four of the Red Sox's last five matchups, with Boston facing three lefties and two righties during that stretch. The Red Sox have continued to rotate a number of players at second base, as Romy Gonzalez, Marcelo Mayer (personal) and Nick Sogard have also seen starts at the position within the past week. Mayer could end up settling in as the primary option at the keystone when Alex Bregman (quadriceps) returns from the injured list and steps back in as the Red Sox's everyday third baseman.
Jun 25 2025Hamilton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton will hit the bench for the third time in four games, with all three absences coming while the Red Sox have gone up against left-handed starting pitchers. The 27-year-old had occupied the keystone in each of the previous six matchups with right-handers, however, and he could retain a regular spot in the lineup after the Red Sox demoted the struggling Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester last week. Campbell may end up getting most of his reps at first base when he returns from the minors, but Hamilton will still be at risk of moving into more of a utility role when Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is activated from the injured list. Marcelo Mayer has been serving as the Red Sox's primary third baseman, but he'll spell Hamilton at second base Wednesday and could end up seeing the bulk of his reps at the keystone once Bregman is back in the fold.
Jun 22 2025Hamilton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed-hitting Hamilton appears likely to get regular playing time at second base against right-handed pitching after Boston optioned Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, but Hamilton will take a seat Sunday with southpaw Robbie Ray on the hill for the Giants. Though Campbell could end up seeing most of his reps at first base once he's recalled from the minors, Hamilton could still be in danger of fading into a utility role when Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is back from the injured list. Bregman should settle back in as the Red Sox's everyday third baseman once he's activated, which could result in Marcelo Mayer shifting over to the keystone.
Jun 20 2025Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-5 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton got the Red Sox on the board with his third-inning homer. He's poised to see more consistent playing time moving forward -- he's started four straight games at second base and no longer has to worry about competing with Kristian Campbell, who was demoted to the minors to accommodate the return of Wilyer Abreu (oblique). Hamilton isn't safe in the lineup by any means -- he's slashing just .186/.218/.309 on the year with three homers, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and 12 stolen bases over 103 plate appearances. He had gone 0-for-14 over 12 games prior to Friday's multi-hit effort.
Jun 18 2025Hamilton will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton will pick up his third consecutive start at the keystone and has been an early beneficiary of Sunday's trade that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. His playing time could begin to dry up by the weekend, however, as the Red Sox are preparing to welcome another everyday player in Wilyer Abreu (oblique) from the injured list. Abreu's return will create a logjam in the outfield that could result in Roman Anthony seeing more starts at designated hitter and Kristian Campbell moving back to second base.
Jun 17 2025Hamilton started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 2-0 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A random start at second base for Hamilton isn't typically significant, but this one came in the first game the Red Sox played without Rafael Devers. Kristian Campbell, Boston's primary second baseman, served as the designated hitter, which had been Devers' role all season. Hamilton is considered the superior fielder, and the Devers trade allows manager Alex Cora to keep Campbell's bat in the lineup without sacrificing a key defensive position. One game is not determinative, so it would be wise to monitor how Cora handles infielder roles going forward. Eventually, Alex Bregman (quad) will return, and Marcelo Mayer could also be in the second-base mix.
Jun 4 2025Hamilton entered as a pinch runner and stole two bases in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton ran for Kristian Campbell and stole his 11th and 12th bases of the season. Five of those 12 thefts have come as a pinch runner, as Hamilton makes the most of a limited role. He's unlikely to gain a greater role going forward even with Campbell struggling at the plate. The Red Sox are dangerously close to falling out of relevancy in 2025, and if that were to happen, Hamilton would remain on the bench watching Campbell and Marcelo Mayer.
May 25 2025Hamilton entered the second game of Saturday's doubleheader as a pinch runner and stole a base in a 2-1 loss to Baltimore. He started the matinee contest and went 0-for-2. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton stole his ninth bag of the season and was in scoring position during an eighth-inning rally but was stranded there. He's tied for second on the team in steals, with three of his nine thefts coming as a pinch runner. Hamilton may provide hidden value even in a part-time role, but he's in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest, getting the call at shortstop for a resting Trevor Story.
May 20 2025Hamilton started at second base and went 1-for-4 and was caught stealing in Monday's 3-1 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton filled in for a slumping Kristian Campbell at second base for a second straight game, but that may be the extent of it for now. Red Sox bench coach Ramon Vazquez indicated the break for Campbell was a reset, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, and that he would rejoin the starting nine Tuesday. During his two-start run, Hamilton went 3-for-8 with a double, a run scored and 1-for-2 in steal attempts.
May 19 2025Hamilton started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-4 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton got the start at second base with a slumping Kristian Campbell (.078 in last 13 games) getting a breather. Hamilton doesn't start often but has made an impact with eight steals in a limited role (58 at-bats). With news that Campbell has begun taking reps at first base, an opening could eventually emerge for Hamilton, who has shaken off an early season slump. He's batting .393 (11-for-28) with six steals in 12 games during the month of May.
May 14 2025Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton singled and scored in the fifth inning and came up clutch with a game-tying, two-run shot in the eighth to force extra innings. It was his second home run of the year and first since April 16. Hamilton has posted a .981 OPS with three multi-hit performances over his last seven games. Despite the recent hot streak, Hamilton owns a .579 OPS with just three extra-base hits through 58 plate appearances this season.
May 4 2025Hamilton will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Sunday's series finale against the Twins, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton moves from second base to shortstop with Kristian Campbell returning from rib discomfort that cost him three games. Hamilton went 5-for-11 with a double, an RBI, three steals and three runs while filling in for Campbell, and he's been rewarded with a fourth straight start, this time filling in for a slumping Trevor Story.
May 3 2025Hamilton started at second base and went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two steals and two runs scored in Friday's 6-1 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton filled in at second base for Kristian Campbell (ribs) for a second straight day and was productive again. Hamilton has gone 4-for-7 with three stolen bases in the two games, but Boston manager Alex Cora believes Campbell will be ready to play Sunday, per MLB.com. Hamilton has five steals over 39 plate appearances this season.
May 2 2025Hamilton started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hamilton filled in for Kristian Campbell, who was scratched from the lineup after feeling rib soreness while stretching prior to the game. Hamilton's potential value has been limited due to lack of playing time behind Campbell. Thursday's steal was his third in 14 games, and the activity was his first appearance in a week. He'll be the primary fill-in at the keystone while Campbell is unavailable.
