May 29 2025The Rays reinstated Kelly (glute) from the 15-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tampa Bay optioned right-hander Connor Seabold to Triple-A Durham to make room in the bullpen for Kelly, who had been on the shelf since April 11 due to a left gluteal strain. Kelly proved his health during a three-appearance rehab assignment in the minors and should step into a middle-relief role for Tampa Bay.
May 19 2025Kelly (glute) will begin a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Rays on Tuesday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly is ready to pitch in games again after missing more than a month of action with a glute strain. He is expected to rejoin the Rays' bullpen before the end of the month.
May 13 2025Kelly (glute) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly was placed on the 15-day injured list April 11 due to a left gluteal strain, but he had resumed playing catch in recent weeks and had hoped to begin throwing off a mound last Wednesday. The Rays haven't confirmed if Kelly was in fact able to start throwing bullpen sessions, but the right-handed reliever still seemingly has a chance at being ready to return from the IL before the end of the month. Prior to being shut down with the injury, Kelly struck out two batters and gave up two earned runs on two hits and two walks in five innings over his five relief appearances.
May 1 2025Kelly (glute) is playing catch from 75 feet and is likely to be sidelined until late May or early June, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander landed on the shelf April 11 due to a left gluteal strain, which is an injury he's dealt with previously. Kelly still has significant work to do in his throwing program and is at least a few weeks away from potentially rejoining the active roster.
Apr 11 2025The Rays placed Kelly (glute) on the 15-day injured list Friday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly threw 18 pitches in an inning of relief Wednesday against the Angels but will now miss at least the next couple weeks with a glute strain. On the season, Kelly has tossed five innings, registering a 3.60 ERA and 2:2 K:BB. Cole Sulser has been recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.
May 15 2024Kelly earned a save against the Red Sox on Wednesday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly entered in the ninth inning with Tampa Bay clinging to a one-run lead, and he dispatched the first two batters he faced on strikeouts before getting Ceddanne Rafaela to ground out to wrap up his first save of the campaign. Meanwhile, Pete Fairbanks -- who is usually Tampa's closer -- pitched in the eighth inning against the heart of Boston's order and notched a hold. That usage suggests that manager Kevin Cash won't hesitate to deploy Fairbanks in the highest leverage situations, even when they come before the ninth frame. As such, other Rays relievers (including Kelly) could get save opportunities from time to time, though those chances are probably too unpredictable for fantasy managers to hassle with in leagues that don't reward holds.
Apr 22 2024The Rays recalled Kelly from Triple-A Durham on Monday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kelly had been optioned to Durham on Thursday, but he'll be eligible to return to the Rays less than a week later after Tampa Bay placed closer Pete Fairbacks (nerve-related condition) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Though the loss of Fairbanks creates a vacancy at the back end of the bullpen, Kelly is more likely to work in the middle innings during his time with the big club. Kelly has previously made four relief appearances for Tampa Bay this season, giving up four earned runs on six hits and one walk over 4.2 innings.
