Jun 26 2025Marte (oblique) started at designated hitter and went 0-for-4 with a run scored for Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first rehab game at an affiliate following a weekend spent in the Arizona Complex League. He's expected to play five consecutive games and then will be re-evaluated, per Greg Kuffner of MSN.com. Marte has been on the 10-day injured list since May 7.
Jun 24 2025Marte (oblique) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte appeared in three games for the Reds' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League. There, he played two partial games at third base and one full game as the designated hitter. Oblique injuries can be tricky, so the Reds may give Marte several rehab games before activating him. Marte could slot back in as the primary third baseman for the Reds, who removed one obstacle to playing time Monday when the club designated Jeimer Candelario for assignment.
Jun 21 2025Marte (oblique) started at third base and went 2-for-3 with two RBI Friday in a rehab game in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte played seven innings in what was his first game action since landing on the 10-day injured list in early May. He'll stick around in Arizona through the weekend before shifting his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville next week, according to MLB.com.
Jun 19 2025Reds manager Terry Francona said that Marte (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has been hitting without issue in recent days and was cleared to play in rehab games after an MRI on his left oblique came back clean. The young infielder has been sidelined since early May but should be ready for activation from the 10-day injured list following a handful of rehab contests. Marte has slashed .294/.342/.515 this season and could step back in as the Reds' primary third baseman upon his return.
Jun 12 2025Marte (oblique) is targeting June 20 to begin a rehab assignment but needs to get an MRI before being cleared, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte recently began hitting soft tosses in the batting cage at the team's complex in Goodyear (Ariz.), which signaled a rehab assignment was imminent. He's been sidelined on the 10-day injured list since early May.
Jun 10 2025Marte (oblique) began hitting from soft tosses in a batting cage Friday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is at the Reds' complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) working his way back from an oblique injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list in late April. The report doesn't give an estimated return date other that sometime in June. Presumably, Marte will go out on a rehab assignment before rejoining Cincinnati.
May 29 2025Marte (oblique) had a follow-up MRI on Tuesday which showed further progress and he received the go-ahead to start rotational activities, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The exact nature of those rotational activities were not divulged in the report, but it's safe to assume that means swinging a bat and taking batting practice. He's missed three-plus weeks with the oblique issue and is expected to require a multi-game rehab assignment.
May 18 2025Marte (oblique) had a scheduled MRI follow-up moved up one week, because the team's medical staff is pleased with his progress, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's follow-up was moved from June 4 to May 27. The results of the MRI should dictate the next phase of his rehab. He's recovering from a Grade 2 strain and has already blown past the 10-day minimum stay.
May 7 2025Reds manager Terry Francona said that Marte's placement on injured list Wednesday was due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is eligible for activation May 15, but because he's dealing with a moderate strain rather than a mild one, he will most likely be sidelined beyond the minimum 10 days. A more precise timeline for Marte's return should emerge once he's able to resume baseball activities. Santiago Espinal will start at third base in Wednesday's game against Atlanta and will likely receive the bulk of the playing time at the position while Marte is on the shelf.
May 6 2025Marte was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against Atlanta due to left side pain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Marte removed from Tuesday's lineup, Santiago Espinal will move to third base, Spencer Steer will shift to left field and Austin Wynns will start at first base. Marte has gone 11-for-39 with two stolen bases, one home run and nine RBI over his last 10 games.
May 5 2025Marte is not in the Reds' starting lineup against Atlanta on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will begin Monday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-10 during the Reds' three-game weekend series against the Nationals. Santiago Espinal will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Atlanta right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver.
May 3 2025Marte is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a blistering stretch during which he batted .471 over eight games between April 20 and April 28, Marte has slowed down a bit of late, going just 2-for-16 across his last four games. The 23-year-old will take a seat to begin Saturday while Santiago Espinal gets a start at the hot corner for the Reds.
Apr 20 2025Marte went 5-for-7 with a homer, two doubles, seven RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 24-2 blowout at Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte popped his first career grand slam off position-player pitcher Jorge Mateo in the eighth inning. The 23-year-old also set a new single-game career high in RBI with seven, easily besting his previous mark of three set Sept. 30, 2023. Marte entered this game with just one hit (1-for-12) but now boasts a .316/.350/.579 slash line across 20 plate appearances.
Apr 17 2025The Reds recalled Marte from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was just sent down Tuesday but has returned to take the roster spot vacated by Christian Encarnacion-Strand (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 23-year-old didn't play much in his previous brief stint with the Reds and might not this time around, either, although there should be some reps at third base up for grabs while Jeimer Candelario shifts over to first base to cover for Encarnacion-Strand.
Apr 15 2025The Reds optioned Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was called up last week and appeared in three games during his brief time in the majors, going 1-for-6 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. Marte is heading back to the minors with Matt McLain (hamstring) making his return from the injured list Tuesday.
Apr 13 2025Marte started at third base and went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte walked and recorded his first steal of the season in the fifth inning before coming home to score on a force-out. He made a second consecutive start, as Jeimer Candelario was needed at first base with Christian Encarnacion-Strand nursing back and hamstring injuries.
Apr 12 2025Marte is starting at third base and batting sixth against Pittsburgh on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Christian Encarnacion-Strand getting the day off, Jeimer Candelario will shift over to first base while Marte makes his first start of the 2025 campaign at the hot corner. Marte was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday to fill the spot on the Reds' 26-man roster vacated by Matt McLain (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Marte was slashing .353/.425/.529 with three stolen bases, six runs scored and five RBI across 40 plate appearances in Triple-A before being recalled by the big club.
Apr 11 2025Marte is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday but hasn't started any of the Reds' three games since the promotion, with his only action coming as a pinch runner. The Reds will need to clear a roster spot for Andrew Abbott (shoulder) on Saturday and for Matt McLain (hamstring) on Tuesday, and it's a good bet Marte will be optioned one of those two days.
Apr 10 2025Marte entered Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Giants as a pinch runner and finished up the game at third base. He did not get a plate appearance. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte made his season debut after being called up from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. He entered for Santiago Espinal, who got the start at third base. Jeimer Candelario had been the default option at the hot corner early this season, but a lingering slump may cost him playing time. Marte, who had a .954 OPS over 40 plate appearances at Louisville, should eventually work into the rotation at third base.
Apr 8 2025The Reds recalled Marte from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Matt McLain (hamstring) headed to the injured list, Marte will rejoin the big-league squad to replenish the Reds' infield depth. The 23-year-old has gotten off to a hot start in the minors, slashing .353/.425/.529 with three steals through nine Triple-A games, though he owns just a .640 OPS in his MLB career.
Mar 10 2025The Reds optioned Marte to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After serving an 80-game suspension to begin the past season, Marte was unable to find a rhythm at the plate once he was cleared to rejoin the Reds in late June. He finished the season with a lowly .549 OPS over 242 plate appearances with the big club, and Marte's struggles have continued this spring, with the 23-year-old slashing .150/.182/.400 with eight strikeouts over 11 games. The Reds are hoping that the assignment to Louisville to begin the season will allow Marte to regain confidence and rediscover the plate approach that helped him make a splash as a rookie in 2023, when he hit .316 and got on base at a .366 clip over his 123 plate appearances with the big club. Until Marte proves he's worthy of another look in the majors, the Reds are likely to get by with Gavin Lux and Jeimer Candelario as their primary options at third base.
Feb 19 2025While Marte is in the Reds' big league spring training camp, he's taking his reps with the other prospects in camp, and not with the Reds lineup regulars, Charlie's Chalkboard reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third base job battle is wide open, and while Marte technically has a shot to win the job, the way the Reds are handling him to begin spring training buttresses earlier notions that he'll begin the season at Triple-A Louisville. Jeimer Candelario, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Gavin Lux and even Santiago Espinal all have better chances to win the third base job on Opening Day.
Jan 7 2025Marte might be at risk of a minor-league demotion to begin the 2025 season following the Reds' acquisition of Gavin Lux, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After making a fantastic splash in the majors in 2023, Marte had a lost 2024 season, which started with him sustaining an injury in Winter League play and then serving an 80-game suspension for a positive PED test. Once he returned, he never got on track offensively or defensively, hitting just .210/.248/.301 in 229 at-bats. With Lux on the team, the Reds have to find spots for Matt McLain, Jeimer Candelario and Christian Encarnacion-Strand in addition to Marte, and it doesn't make sense for Marte to ride the bench instead of playing regularly in the minors.
Sep 29 2024Marte went 1-for-3 and was caught stealing in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte logged one of three hits for the Reds, whose bats have gone very quiet over the final week of the season with a league-low .137 batting average. Cincinnati's lost five straight, including three shutouts, and been outscored 17-3. Marte is doing his best to put a disappointing season behind him, which began with an 80-game suspension due to a PED violation. He's gone 13-for-48 (.271) with four walks, four RBI and three steals over the last 14 games.
Sep 27 2024Marte is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It will be a day off for Marte, who has now started 10 of the last 12 games for the Reds while bouncing between third base and designated hitter. The Reds are going with Santiago Espinal at the hot corner and Ty France at DH in the series opener.
Sep 22 2024Marte is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has been a regular part of the lineup lately between third base and DH, but he will sit for a tough matchup against right-hander Paul Skenes. Spencer Steer will serve as the designated hitter while Will Benson takes over in left field.
Sep 18 2024Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte contributed to the Reds' comeback from a 5-1 deficit with his sixth-inning double that plated two (one came home on a throwing error). He then stole his ninth bag of the season. It's been a down year for Marte, who never developed any sustained success at the plate after serving an 80-game suspension, but he's in the midst of an encouraging stretch, having gone 7-for-25 (.280) with four RBI and three steals over the last seven contests.
Sep 15 2024Marte went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, whose ground-rule double plated two during the Reds' nine-run fourth inning, entered the contest with just one RBI over the previous 13 games. Not much has gone right for him since returning from an 80-game suspension, and recently he's lost playing time to Santiago Espinal. Marte's played just seven of 13 games thus far in September.
Sep 11 2024Marte went 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's playing time has been sporadic in September -- this was his fifth game of the month. He's gone 3-for-15 (.200) in those contests while adding a 1:8 BB:K. Marte is up to eight steals on 10 attempts this year while slashing a meager .203/.239/.305 with four home runs, 15 RBI and 22 runs scored over 54 games. He got the start at designated hitter Wednesday, but that has typically been Amed Rosario's spot in the lineup versus right-handers in recent weeks.
Sep 4 2024Marte is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has now been absent from the Reds' lineup for two straight games and five times across the last eight contests. Santiago Espinal has been scorching hot since the All-Star break and is garnering another start at third base.
Sep 2 2024Marte is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's fallen into a bit of a timeshare at third base with Santiago Espinal, who will start at the hot corner Monday. Marte had started each of the previous three games while Espinal was banged up, but Espinal was in the lineup for the three contests prior to that.
Aug 30 2024Marte is not in the lineup for the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the third game in a row that Marte has been on the bench, although it seems likely that he'll be in the lineup for the nightcap Friday. Santiago Espinal will handle third base in Friday's matinee.
Aug 29 2024Marte isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will sit down for a second consecutive game after going 7-for-21 with a homer and two RBI across his last six contests. While he rests, Santiago Espinal will start at third base with Will Benson manning right field.
Aug 28 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has struggled mightily at the plate overall since completing his 80-game suspension to begin the season and joining the Reds in late June, though his bat has been starting to come around lately. Over his last six contests, Marte has gone 7-for-21 with a home run and two stolen bases, bringing his batting average back to the Mendoza Line (.200) on the season. Despite the recent surge, Marte will cede his spot at third base to the even hotter-hitting Santiago Espinal, who has pushed his way into an everyday role for the Reds while seeing action at a number of different positions.
Aug 24 2024Marte is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the month of August, Marte is slashing .230/.242/.377 with seven runs scored, two home runs, five RBI and a 32.3 percent strikeout rate over 62 plate appearances. Santiago Espinal is starting at third base and batting eighth.
Aug 23 2024Marte went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 7-0 loss to Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was one of only two Reds to reach scoring position, when he singled and stole second base in the eighth inning. The third baseman has steals in two consecutive games and is up to six for the season. A silver lining to the dark cloud that's characterized Marte's year to date is that he hit safely for a third straight game and saw his batting average creep up to .200.
Aug 22 2024Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 11-7 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte launched his fourth home run of the season as part of a three-run sixth inning that gave the Reds some breathing room. It was the second straight game in which he's recorded multiple hits, and the performance raised his batting average to .197, the highest it's been since his third game of the season June 29. It's not saying much, but Marte's .632 OPS in August has been his best month since he was reinstated from an 80-game suspension in June.
Aug 21 2024Marte started at third base and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte tied the game in the second inning after the Blue Jays jumped to an early lead. The third baseman returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous two games. The drop in playing time is the direct result of his struggles at the plate -- Marte entered the game batting .181 over 40 games -- but Jeimer Candelario's placement on the injured list with a toe injury seems likely to keep Marte in the regular lineup for the time being.
Aug 19 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in 13 of the Reds' previous 14 games, Marte is absent from the lineup for a second straight game. Santiago Espinal will bat ninth and play the hot corner Monday. Marte has two hits and eight strikeouts in his last 20 at-bats.
Aug 13 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After making 10 consecutive starts at third base, Marte will get the night off Tuesday. In his place, Santiago Espinal will play third and bat ninth. Marte is slashing .179/.218/.299 across 142 plate appearances this season.
Aug 7 2024Marte went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's bat has woken up against Miami; the ninth-hole batter has three hits, including a home run, in the first two games of the series. The multi-hit effort Tuesday was his third in 31 games and first since July 10. Marte will need to put together a consistent stretch to get back to the middle of the order, where he was projected to bat prior to his 80-game suspension and where he slotted initially upon his return.
Aug 6 2024Marte went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's 10-3 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte swatted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Reds a 6-0 lead. It was his third home run of the season and first in 10 games. Marte, who entered the game with a .168 average, batted ninth for the second time in three games and has gradually moved down the order from the fifth spot when he first returned from an 80-game suspension in late June.
Aug 4 2024Marte started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 6-4 win over San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who was held out of the starting lineup the last two games, returned to action Saturday, but the bat remained problematic. He has just two hits over the last 19 at-bats and is batting .172 for the season.
Aug 2 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the second straight game on the bench for Marte, who has a .177/.231/.281 slash line and 30.8 percent strikeout rate in 104 plate appearances since returning from his 80-game PED suspension in late June. Santiago Espinal will receive another start at third base Friday and could continue to cut into Marte's playing time after finishing July with a 1.184 OPS in 16 games.
Jul 31 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now more than a month removed from returning to the Cincinnati lineup June 27 after completing his 80-game suspension to begin the season, Marte still has yet to get going at the plate. He enters Wednesday's contest with a .177/.223/.281 slash line and a 31.1 percent strikeout rate over 103 plate appearances. The Reds still seem committed to Marte as their everyday third baseman, but with the 22-year-old hitting the bench for the second time in the last four games, his leash may be getting shorter.
Jul 28 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started Cincinnati's first seven games of the second half but will sit Sunday after hitting .192 with a .592 OPS during that span. Santiago Espinal will receive a start at the hot corner in the series finale versus the Rays.
Jul 25 2024Marte went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-4 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte joined the Reds' party with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The struggling third baseman, who is batting .181 since he completed his 80-game PED suspension, has hit safely in four straight games (4-for-17).
Jul 22 2024Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte put the Reds up early with a second-inning solo homer. It was his second of the season and first in 14 games. After serving an 80-game suspension, Marte is still getting his timing down. He's batting .176 with a .499 OPS and a 32.9 strikeout percentage over 20 games.
Jul 14 2024Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since he completed his 80-game suspension and rejoined the Reds on June 27, Marte had started in each of the club's ensuing 16 games, slashing .177/.212/.258 with a home run and two stolen bases over 66 plate appearances. He'll get a breather for the Reds' final game before the All-Star break, but despite his lackluster production since his reinstatement to the roster, Marte should be locked into an everyday role heading into the second half. Santiago Espinal will spell Marte at third base Sunday.
Jul 10 2024Marte went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first multi-hit effort since his season debut June 27. The infielder is batting just .176 with one home run, six RBI, eight runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases over 54 plate appearances. Marte is likely still working some things out on the fly after opening the year with an 80-game suspension, but he continues to see consistent playing time at third base amid his struggles.
Jul 4 2024Marte went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 3-2 win against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte produced the bulk of Cincinnati's offense with his two-run blast in the second inning. That was his first hit in five games since going 3-for-5 in his return from an 80-game suspension June 27. Marte is batting .167 overall since being reinstated, collecting four RBI, five runs and two stolen bases across six contests.
Jun 30 2024Marte went 0-for-5 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte reached base and knocked in a run on a fielder's choice before swiping a bag and scoring as part of the Reds' six-run fifth inning. He notched double-digit steals in each of the last three years in the minors and is on his way to accomplishing that feat as a major-leaguer this season after notching two thefts in three games since being reinstated from suspension. After collecting three hits in his first four at-bats off suspension, Marte has gone 10 at-bats without a hit.
Jun 28 2024Marte went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, three runs and a stolen base Thursday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old made his season debut after sitting out the first 80 games of the season due to a PED suspension, and he immediately provided a boost to Cincinnati's lineup. Marte batted just .151 in 12 games during his minor-league rehab assignment, but he didn't show any of that rust in his first game with the Reds. He should operate as the club's primary third baseman the rest of the way after he posted an .822 OPS over 35 games in his first taste of the majors in 2023.
Jun 27 2024The Reds activated Marte from the suspended list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has completed his 80-game PED suspension and the Reds will return him to their active roster on the first day he's eligible. The 22-year-old struggled mightily while on his rehab assignment, slashing just .151/.151/.170 with no home runs and a 15:0 K:BB over 53 plate appearances. Fantasy managers might be wise to keep Marte out of their lineups for now while he knocks some rust off, but the infielder should be rostered virtually everywhere. He should operate as the Reds' primary third baseman.
Jun 26 2024The Reds announced Wednesday that Marte (suspension) has rejoined the team after completing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte won't be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension until Thursday's series opener in St. Louis, but since he's back in Cincinnati rather than sticking around in Louisville, the Reds are presumably preparing to add him back to the 26-man active roster ahead of their four-game series this weekend. The 22-year-old struggled to regain his timing at the plate during the rehab assignment, slashing .151/.151/.170 with no walks and a 28.3-percent strikeout rate over 12 games. However, after Marte posted an .822 OPS in 123 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues in 2023, the Reds look as though they'll allow him to iron out the kinks in the majors. He's seen action at third base, second base and shortstop during his rehab assignment and may have to settle for more of a utility role with the Reds initially until he performs well enough to warrant everyday playing time.
Jun 23 2024The Reds haven't yet committed to activating Marte (suspension) when he's first eligible to return to the big club June 27, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Reds manager David Bell professes not to be paying attention to Marte's numbers during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville as he continues the ramp-up process. Through the first 10 games of his assignment, Marte is hitting .156/.156/.178 with no walks and 13 strikeouts. If Marte can get back up to speed, the Reds could really use him both offensively and defensively at third base.
Jun 13 2024Marte (suspension) began a rehab assignment Tuesday and is a combined 3-for-10 with a double and two runs scored in two games for Triple-A Louisville. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who is in the final two weeks of an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance (Boldenone), served at third base Tuesday then designated hitter Wednesday and played all nine innings in each contest. He's eligible to return from suspension June 27. Marte slashed .316/.366/.456 in 35 games and 123 plate appearances in the big leagues last season and is expected to be the team's primary third baseman once ready.
Jun 3 2024Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Marte (suspension) is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment June 11, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is nearing the end of his 80-game suspension due to violating MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program. After ramping up his activity in the Dominican Republic, Marte will travel to the United States and will likely begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Bell noted that Marte will mostly play third base in his assignment, but the 22-year-old will also get some reps at shortstop and second base. Marte is eligible to return from his suspension June 27.
May 22 2024Marte (suspension) recently reported to the Reds' facility in the Dominican Republic to continue participating in exhibition games before the start of the Dominican Summer League, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is continuing to serve the 80-game suspension he was handed down in March for violating MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program, but he's been able to stay in playing shape of late by appearing in extended spring training games in Arizona and now in the Dominican Republic. According to team president Nick Krall, the Reds plan to have Marte participate in games in the Dominican Republic for about a week to 10 days before he returns to the United States to begin an official rehab assignment in the minors.
