Jun 28 2025Encarnacion-Strand isn't in the starting lineup Saturday versus San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand has started each of Cincinnati's previous four contests and went 2-for-12 with three runs batted in during that stretch, with both of the hits and all of the RBI coming in the same game. He'll begin on the bench Saturday while Santiago Espinal starts at the hot corner and Spencer Steer starts at first base.
Jun 24 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The three RBI matched a season high for Encarnacion-Strand, who's supplied plenty of pop since coming off the injured list. Across his 49 at-bats since returning from a back injury, the slugging infielder is batting a healthy .265 with three home runs, two doubles and 10 RBI. Encarnacion-Strand remains in a timeshare with Spencer Steer at first base, however, and the former could face even more competition for playing time once Noelvi Marte (oblique) is ready to rejoin the Reds.
Jun 22 2025Encarnacion-Strand is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand got off to a hot start at the plate upon returning from the injured list June 6, but he's gone just 3-for-25 with seven strikeouts over his last seven contests. Now on the bench for the fourth time in the Reds' last five games, Encarnacion-Strand could be in danger of a demotion to Triple-A Louisville during the upcoming week. The Reds announced Sunday that Jeimer Candelario (back) has returned from his rehab assignment, and Encarnacion-Strand would be a logical candidate to get optioned to clear a spot for the veteran.
Jun 18 2025Encarnacion-Strand is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand started the first seven contests upon his activation from the 10-day injured list and slugged home runs in each of the first three of those games. However, he's gone just 2-for-21 with seven strikeouts in his last six games, and Wednesday will be the second time across the last four tilts that he's been out of the lineup. Spencer Steer and Santiago Espinal will handle corner-infield duties for the Reds.
Jun 14 2025Encarnacion-Strand isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In seven games since returning from the injured list, Encarnacion-Strand has gone 9-for-19 (.310) with three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored. The Reds will give him a chance to rest Saturday while Spencer Steer starts at first base and Gavin Lux mans third.
Jun 11 2025Encarnacion-Strand started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was the first time in five games that Encarnacion-Strand failed to reach base safely since coming off the IL; he'd gone 8-for-17 with a double, three home runs and seven RBI over the first four contests. This marked the third time in those five games that he's started at third base. Reds manager Terry Francona needs to find time for both Encarnacion-Strand and Spencer Steer, and it appears Santiago Espinal's regular run at third base has ended.
Jun 8 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand got the Reds on the board with a 403-foot blast in the fourth inning. He enjoyed an ideal return to action over the weekend, homering in all three games while collecting seven hits and six RBI. The 25-year-old is now slashing .229/.257/.486 with five home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored across 74 plate appearances this season, and he earned his second start at third base Sunday.
Jun 7 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 5-for-10 with two home runs and five RBI across the Reds' two wins over the Diamondbacks on Friday and Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Friday's game was suspended due to rain, and when it resumed Saturday, Encarnacion-Strand emerged as the hero after smacking the walk-off RBI double in the 10th. He brought his momentum into Saturday's scheduled game, putting the Reds on the board in the first inning with a three-run longshot to left field. It was Encarnacion-Strand's first major-league action since landing on the 10-day injured list April 17 due to a back issue. He had a .482 OPS across 59 plate appearances prior to his injury, and the extended period on the shelf may have helped the 25-year-old infielder figure things out at the plate.
Jun 6 2025The Reds activated Encarnacion-Strand (back) from the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand has been on the shelf since April 17 due to lower back inflammation, but after a lengthy rehab assignment, he's been cleared to rejoin the Reds. Prior to sustaining the injury, Encarnacion-Strand slashed .158/.183/.298 with two home runs in 60 plate appearances. However, he went 12-for-37 (.324) with a pair of homers over 10 games with Triple-A Louisville during his rehab stint.
Jun 2 2025Reds manager Terry Francona said Monday that Encarnacion-Strand (back) will remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville to begin the week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. "When he went down [with lower back inflammation], he wasn't swinging great," Francona said of Encarnacion-Strand. "Then you lose some time. You try to use [the rehab assignment] to your advantage." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Francona's comments suggest that Encarnacion-Strand isn't dealing with any physical setbacks since kicking off his rehab assignment May 22. Instead, the Reds want the 25-year-old to stockpile some more at-bats in the minors to get his timing back at the plate after he had struggled to begin the season before getting hurt and then being out of action for more than a month. Between stops in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Louisville during his rehab assignment, Encarnacion-Strand has slashed .355/.412/.742 with seven extra-base hits and a 2:8 BB:K over 34 plate appearances. The Reds could revisit adding Encarnacion-Strand back to the active roster following Thursday's off day.
May 27 2025Encarnacion-Strand (back) served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand's rehab assignment shifted from the Arizona Complex League to Louisville, and this was his third appearance overall. He played first base in both games while in the ACL. The Bats were off Monday, and Encarnacion-Strand is expected to play Tuesday against Toledo. He's up to 11 plate appearances on the assignment, and the organization may want to see him push that to 20 or so after having missed nearly six weeks.
May 25 2025Encarnacion-Strand (back) will have his rehab assignment moved to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand kicked off his rehab in the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday and is 2-for-7 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. The Reds' roster has undergone some changes since he was placed on the injured list mid-April. Spencer Steer's early season shoulder issue no longer limits him to DH only, and he's been the primary first baseman, which was Encarnacion-Strand's job when he was added to IL.
May 22 2025The Reds announced that Encarnacion-Strand (back) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shortly after being placed on the injured list April 17 due to lower-back inflammation, Encarnacion-Strand reported to the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona to conduct his rehab program. His back has apparently responded well since he resumed ramping up his baseball activities in recent weeks, and he's now been deemed ready to test himself in a game setting. He'll likely stick around in Arizona for a few games before eventually transferring his rehab assignment to a higher-level affiliate, and a return from the IL by the end of next week could be a possibility if everything goes smoothly. Before landing on the shelf, Encarnacion-Strand had been serving as Cincinnati's primary first baseman but slashed just .158/.183/.298 over 60 plate appearances. With Spencer Steer having since settled in at first base over the past month and having picked up the pace at the plate following a slow start to the season, Encarnacion-Strand may not have an everyday spot in the Cincinnati lineup waiting for him once he returns.
May 7 2025Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that Encarnacion-Strand (back) is "continuing to take steps" forward in his recovery process and could begin ramping up his baseball activities next week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After recently getting a second epidural injection to address his lower back inflammation, Encarnacion-Strand has reported improvement with his condition. Per MLB.com, Encarnacion-Strand has already been swinging off a tee and doing some running in the field, and he could soon incorporate more hitting and fielding in his workouts. The Reds haven't provided a definitive target date for Encarnacion-Strand's return from the 10-day injured list, but he's unlikely to be ready to rejoin the big club until the second half of May at the soonest.
Apr 17 2025The Reds placed Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list Thursday with low-back inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand had a two-RBI double in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, but he's been playing through a back issue for a while and the Reds have decided that the best course of action is to rest him for a bit. Jeimer Candelario is likely to handle the bulk of reps at first base while Encarnacion-Strand is out, with Gavin Lux, Santiago Espinal and Noelvi Marte representing the Reds' options at third base.
Apr 16 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand had gone 0-for-12 over his last three games, but he managed to get the Reds on the board in the seventh inning with a double to left field that brought home Spencer Steer and Gavin Lux. Encarnacion-Strand is working his way back from hamstring and back soreness, which caused him to miss two games earlier in the week. He's begun the season slashing .158/.183/.298 with four runs scored, two home runs and five RBI across 60 plate appearances this season.
Apr 15 2025Encarnacion-Strand (back/hamstring) will start at first base and bat seventh in Tuesday's game versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand missed the last two contests due to back and hamstring soreness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Tuesday's series opener. The 25-year-old is scuffling in the early going this season with just a .498 OPS over his first 13 games.
Apr 13 2025Encarnacion-Strand is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, with manager Terry Francona noting that the first baseman is "banged up" due to back and hamstring issues, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand will miss out on a start for the second day in a row due to the pair of injury concerns, both of which he contended with at points during the 2023 season. However, Francona said he expects Encarnacion-Strand to be available off the bench Sunday, so the Reds don't appear to be too concerned about the 25-year-old potentially needing a stint on the shelf.
Apr 12 2025Encarnacion-Strand is not in the Reds' starting lineup against the Pirates on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand will get a rest day after going 0-for-8 with three strikeouts over his last two games. Noelvi Marte will make his first start of 2025 at third base while Jeimer Candelario shifts to first base.
Apr 6 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 11-7 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand ended a string of 18 at-bats without a hit when he belted a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning. The blast was his second of the season. He's been the Reds' primary first baseman and does not appear to be in danger of losing that role at this time despite a .172 average. That could eventually happen if he continues to struggle, but manager Terry Francona has limited options due to injuries.
Apr 5 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 0-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand ended the Reds' 35-inning scoreless streak with a run-producing sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. It was the first productive plate appearance in a while for Encarnacion-Strand, who doesn't have a hit over his last 20 plate appearances.
Apr 2 2025Encarnacion-Strand started at first base and went 0-for-3 in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand returned to the lineup after missing one game due to a hand injury. After a pair of two-hit games to open the season, he's gone hitless in his nine at-bats.
Apr 1 2025Encarnacion-Strand (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old departed Monday's series opener after being hit by a pitch on the right hand and will be absent from the starting nine for at least one game. Encarnacion-Strand already had X-rays come back negative and could be available off the bench, per Reds manager Terry Francona, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Jeimer Candelario is shifting to first base Tuesday while Santiago Espinal receives a start at the hot corner.
Mar 31 2025The Reds announced Monday that X-rays on Encarnacion-Strand's right hand came back negative, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand was pulled from Monday's game against the Rangers after being hit by a pitch on the hand, but he checked out OK after undergoing further testing. The club will presumably check on the first baseman Tuesday morning before determining whether he can be penciled into the starting lineup for the second game of the series.
Mar 29 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand put the Reds ahead in the sixth inning with a solo shot off reliever Spencer Bivens. The 25-year-old earned the starting first base job after posting an .899 OPS over 56 plate appearances this spring. He's carried that momentum into the regular season, delivering back-to-back multi-hit performances to open 2025.
Mar 9 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's spring game against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand took advantage of a Jordan Montgomery fastball that stayed up for his third Cactus League homer. Coming back from a wrist injury that limited him to 29 games in 2024, Encarnacion-Strand appears healthy in camp. He's mainly batted in the lower half of the order this spring, but he could provide a middle-of-the-order presence if he continues to mash. Capable of playing both corner infield spots, Encarnacion-Strand has started mostly at first base and is looking like the favorite to win the job. His cause is aided by the shoulder injury to Spencer Steer, who may open the regular season on the IL.
Mar 2 2025Encarnacion-Strand went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's spring game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand led off the second inning with a solo home run, his second blast of the Cactus League. He's looking to put an injury-marred 2024 in the past; the 25-year-old corner infielder was limited to just 29 games by a wrist injury last season. While the Reds are using Encarnacion-Strand and others at both corner infield spots, he appears to be the team's expected starter at first base.
Feb 26 2025Encarnacion-Strand started at first base and went 1-for-3 with a home run in Wednesday's spring game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand has appeared in three games, twice at first base and once at third, as each corner infield spot is not yet set. He and Jeimer Candelario have seen action on each corner thus far in Cactus League action, but C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic observed that Encarnacion-Strand has spent most of his time at first base during workouts while Candelario's logged plenty of time at third.
Feb 11 2025Reds manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that he'd like to see Encarnacion-Strand play third base during spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand was expected to be the team's primary first baseman in 2024, but hand and wrist injuries limited him to 29 games. He started seven games at third base for the Reds in 2023, and the hot corner was a regular spot for Encarnacion-Strand in the minors and college. Francona indicated that several infielders will "move around" at the beginning of spring training before the manager settles on a position for players like Encarnacion-Strand, Gavin Lux and Jeimer Candelario.
Oct 28 2024The Reds activated Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move was required because Encarnacion-Strand is in the Arizona Fall League on a rehab assignment, which has expired. He will continue to play in the AFL and is now back on the Reds' 40-man roster after missing most of the season following wrist surgery.
Sep 20 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) will play in the Arizona Fall League, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand was limited to just 29 games this season due to a wrist injury which eventually required surgery. He will make up for at-bats he lost during the year with some Fall League games and should head into spring training without any restrictions.
Sep 5 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) has been cleared to begin baseball activities, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand underwent surgery in mid-July to repair ligaments in his fractured right wrist. He has already been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season, but the 24-year-old will hope to have a normal offseason after getting the go-ahead to ramp things up this month.
Aug 12 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) hopes to be ready to return during a potential playoff run for the Reds, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand underwent surgery a month ago to repair ligaments in his fractured right wrist and has yet to resume baseball activities. While the infielder is holding out hope that he could possibly impact a postseason run for the Reds, the likelihood is high that he will ultimately be held out until next season. Still, the fact that it's even a remote possibility indicates that Encarnacion-Strand should have a relatively normal offseason if all goes well.
Jul 13 2024Encarnacion-Strand underwent surgery to repair ligaments in his fractured right wrist Thursday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The recovery time is estimated to be three months, which means Encarnacion-Strand is unlikely to return until next year. The Reds are getting by with a combination of Spencer Steer and Jeimer Candelario at first base.
Jun 25 2024Encarnacion-Strand will undergo surgery on his right wrist July 11, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The recovery is expected to take three months, effectively ending Encarnacion-Strand's 2024 season. He initially went on the injured list back in early May with a right ulnar styloid fracture, but subsequent testing revealed ligament damage, which he'll need surgery to address. Encarnacion-Strand's season will conclude with him having slashed only .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games.
Jun 17 2024The Reds transferred Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand had been on the IL since May 8 with a right ulnar styloid fracture and wasn't expected to begin a rehab assignment anytime soon, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his eventual timeline for a return. According to Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer, manager David Bell reiterated Monday that Encarnacion-Strand remains in a bit of a holding pattern in his recovery from the injury. After he had been expected to increase his activity earlier this month, Encarnacion-Strand's rehab progression was put on pause when he sought a second opinion on his wrist from a specialist, who determined that the 24-year-old was dealing with ligament damage. Bell said that the Reds will wait a few more days to see how Encarnacion-Strand's wrist responds to rest before a determination is made on his next step, which could include anything from resuming baseball activities to going under the knife for season-ending surgery.
Jun 11 2024Reds manager David Bell revealed Tuesday that Encarnacion-Strand is considering season-ending surgery to repair ligament damage in his right wrist, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand initially went on the 10-day injured list in early May with a fracture in the wrist, but subsequent testing has apparently shown ligament damage. If the infielder opts against surgery, it's not clear how much longer he might be sidelined. Encarnacion-Strand slashed only .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games before getting hurt.
Jun 9 2024Cincinnati manager David Bell said Saturday that Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) visited a specialist, who advised five days of additional rest, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand had met with team doctors June 5 and was given the green light to take the next step in his rehab progression, but the injured first baseman opted for a second opinion. Bell is hopeful Encarnacion-Strand can resume his progression following the current rest period and begin swinging a bat "in the next couple of weeks." This development pushes out a potential return at least another two weeks.
Jun 7 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) had a follow-up exam with Reds doctors Wednesday, and he was cleared to take the next step in his rehab, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While that would seem to be good news for Encarnacion-Strand, who was diagnosed with a right ulnar styloid fracture May 8, he opted to get a second opinion, putting his rehab on hold for the moment. At the time of his diagnosis, Encarnacion-Strand was given a four-to-six week recovery timeline.
May 24 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) was on the field Tuesday fielding groundballs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand's right hand remained in a protective cast while he fielded solely with his left (glove) hand. This was his first form of baseball activity since being diagnosed May 8 with a right ulnar styloid fracture on the inside of his hand near the wrist. The Reds still expect him back at some point in June, but a clearer timeline should emerge after Encarnacion-Strand undergoes a follow-up exam scheduled for June 5, the four-week mark of his projected 4-to-6 week recovery.
May 21 2024Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) will have a follow-up exam on June 5, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That will be the four-week mark of Encarnacion-Strand's projected 4-to-6 week timetable as he recovers from a fracture in his right wrist, so it would appear he's not going to make it back on the early side of that timeline. Encarnacion-Strand would presumably require a rehab assignment before returning.
May 8 2024Reds manager David Bell said that Encarnacion-Strand, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after tests revealed a new fracture in his right wrist, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Initial imaging after Encarnacion-Strand was hit on the hand by a pitch late last month came back clean, but subsequent tests revealed a right ulnar styloid fracture. The 24-year-old has hit a disappointing .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games for the Reds this season. Cincinnati will turn to Jeimer Candelario to replace Encarnacion-Strand at first base in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, while Santiago Espinal enters the lineup at first base. The Reds signed Mike Ford to a one-year contract Wednesday and could also turn to him for starts at first base while Encarnacion-Strand is on the shelf.
May 4 2024Encarnacion-Strand went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand missed the last four games with a hand injury. His first full season in the majors has gotten off to a rocky start, as the first baseman is slashing .190/.216/.305 over 111 plate appearances. His strikeout rate is nearly identical to what it was in 2023, but the walk rate is about half of what it was last year and Encarnacion-Strand is in the fifth percentile in chase percentage.
May 3 2024Encarnacion-Strand (hand) will start at first base and bat fifth in Friday's game versus the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand missed four starts due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch over the weekend, but he's ready to go now. The 24-year-old has slashed a disappointing .196/.222/.314 with a 28.7 percent strikeout rate in 25 contests with the Reds this season.
May 2 2024Encarnacion-Strand (hand) and teammate Tyler Stephenson are expected to return Friday when the Reds host the Orioles, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Reds' bats went quiet on their 2-4 road trip against the Rangers and Padres, hitting .201 as a team while averaging 10 strikeouts per game on the trip. Of course, Encarnacion-Strand has been struggling this year in both aspects, hitting .196 with a troubling 3:31 BB:K ratio in 108 plate appearances. Perhaps with better health and better weather he will come close to displaying the form he showed in 2023, when he hit .270/.328/.477 in 241 plate appearances at the big league level.
May 1 2024Encarnacion-Strand (hand) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll miss a fourth straight start due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch. Encarnacion-Strand has been available off the bench the last two days and presumably will be again Wednesday. He could be back in the lineup Friday against the Orioles after the Reds' off day Thursday.
Apr 30 2024Encarnacion-Strand (hand) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand will sit for the third straight game after taking a pitch off his left hand during Saturday's win over Texas. He was available off the bench Monday and may still be used if needed Tuesday, but Jeimer Candelario will be the one starting at first base while Santiago Espinal covers the hot corner.
Apr 29 2024Encarnacion-Strand (hand) underwent a precautionary MRI on Monday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand has been held out of each of his club's last two games while dealing with soreness in his left hand, and the team sent him for further imaging Monday to make sure he's not dealing with anything serious. "He's feeling better, but we're just making sure," said manager David Bell. Encarnacion-Strand will continue to be considered day-to-day heading into Tuesday.
Apr 28 2024Encarnacion-Strand was held out of Sunday's game due to a hand injury suffered the previous day, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand was struck on his left hand by a pitch Saturday. According to manager David Bell, X-rays showed he did not sustain a fracture; however, the imaging revealed evidence of a previous fracture that may be contributing to his soreness. Spencer Steer filled in at first base for Encarnacion-Strand, who could be out a "few days," per Bell.
Apr 24 2024Encarnacion-Strand went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-1 win over Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand, in his first three-hit game of the season, produced in a couple of key moments in the contest. After the Phillies jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, he delivered a two-out double in the bottom half to tie the game. Two innings later, Encarnacion-Strand gave the Reds a 2-1 lead with another two-out RBI on a single. He later got on base to lead off the fifth prior to Elly De La Cruz's home run. Encarnacion-Strand's been a streaky hitter in 2024 and entered the night batting just .190, but he's managed to deliver with two outs -- he's posted a .364 average with 11 of his 16 RBI in those situations.
Apr 21 2024Encarnacion-Strand went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand took part in each of the Reds' three runs scored, driving in Nick Martini and Elly De La Cruz on a sixth-inning double before coming around to score on a Jeimer Candelario triple. Although Encarnacion-Strand holds a poor .185/.190/.321 slash line, he ranks third on the Reds with 14 RBI.
Apr 20 2024Encarnacion-Strand (illness) is starting at first base and batting fifth in Saturday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Encarnacion-Strand had missed the Reds' last two games due to an illness. He and third baseman Jeimer Candelario are back in Saturday's starting lineup and will face Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Before his illness, Encarnacion-Strand was slashing .217/.222/.333 with one home run and 11 RBI since April 1.
