Mar 23 2025Pratto cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old missed out on Kansas City's Opening Day roster after slashing .200/.351/.333 with 13 strikeouts in 37 plate appearances during spring training. Pratto made just one appearance with the Royals last year and had a .728 OPS in 116 contests at Omaha.
Mar 1 2025Pratto is working in the outfield this spring in an effort to win a utility role, MLB.com reports. He's competing with Dairon Blanco, Joey Wiemer and Drew Waters for a bench spot. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto hit just .240 with 16 home runs and a .728 OPS at Triple-A last season but still has significant power as he hit 36 homers in the minors in 2021. He's likely a long shot to win a roster spot, though he is out of options. He's hitting just 1-for-10 in his first five spring games.
Jun 14 2024The Royals optioned Pratto to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While there's no corresponding move yet, it will presumably be Adam Frazier returning from the bereavement list. Pratto was up with the big club only for a few days and didn't make an appearance.
Jun 11 2024Pratto was called up from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto will get his first taste of MLB action this season after slashing .230/.315/.378 with seven homers in 54 games at Omaha. With Adam Frazier headed to the bereavement list and Hunter Renfroe (toe) pushed to the IL, Pratto should serve primarily as a reserve first baseman but could see some action in the outfield.
Mar 22 2024The Royals optioned Pratto to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: If decisions were made strictly on spring performance, Pratto would have made the club, as he slashed a robust .421/.476/.816 with four home runs. First base, the corner outfield spots and designated hitter are spoken for with the Royals, though, so he'll head back to Omaha where he'll play every day.
Mar 2 2024Pratto is not projected to make the Royals' roster, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto is blocked at first base by Vinnie Pasquantino and doesn't have enough experience in the outfield yet to be a realistic option there, especially with the competition for the extra outfielders expected to be strong. Nelson Velazquez is also expected to be the primary designated hitter, and Nick Loftin, who is also not included in Rogers' projection, offers more infield versatility. It's an uphill battle ahead for Pratto, who slashed a meager .232/.307/.353 with seven home runs and 35 RBI last year.
Sep 29 2023Pratto is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Salvador Perez will start at first base and Logan Porter will do the catching as the Royals face off against left-hander Carlos Rodon. The left-handed-hitting Pratto went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Thursday's series finale versus the Tigers and carries a disappointing .228/.306/.352 season slash line.
Sep 27 2023Pratto is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game at Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Salvador Perez will take a turn at first base as Logan Porter handles the catching duties for the visiting Royals. Pratto, 24, has posted a disappointing .231/.309/.357 batting line across 91 major-league games this season.
Sep 24 2023Pratto isn't in the Royals' lineup Sunday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto will take a seat Sunday after logging a hit in each of the first two games of the series. Nick Loftin will fill in at first base and bat fifth in Pratto's place.
Sep 20 2023Pratto is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Guardians ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since returning from a left groin strain Sept. 8, Pratto has struggled in the eight games he has appeared in. The 24-year-old has reached base just three times in 25 plate appearances. With only one extra-base hit in the span, it has amounted to a low OPS of .287. Tuesday will be the fourth time the first baseman is not starting since his return from the injured list.
Sep 17 2023Pratto is absent from the lineup Sunday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matt Duffy will start at first base and bat fifth versus the Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez. The left-handed-hitting Pratto went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI sac fly and a run scored in the Royals' 10-8 win Saturday.
Sep 12 2023Pratto isn't in the Royals' lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the first game of Tuesday's activities, Pratto will get a chance to regroup during the nightcap. Matt Duffy will cover first base and bat sixth in Pratto's absence.
Sep 10 2023Pratto is not in the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto is being eased back into action after returning Friday from a several-week absence to heal a left groin strain. Nick Loftin will start at first base and bat seventh for the Royals on Sunday at Toronto.
Sep 8 2023Pratto (groin) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A left groin strain and a minor setback in recovery has kept Pratto out since late July, but he'll now return to the active roster and take the place of Matt Beaty, who was optioned to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Pratto slashed .214/.340/.381 across 50 plate appearances during his rehab assignment and figures to slide back into an everyday role with Kansas City now that he's healthy.
Aug 30 2023Pratto (groin/hip) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Omaha. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto seems likely to return to the Royals' active major-league roster by early next week, assuming all goes well during his stint in the minors. The 24-year-old landed on the injured list July 28 with a left groin strain and encountered a bit of a hip issue last week, but he's ready now to get back into live games.
Aug 28 2023Pratto (groin/hip) is expected to resume his rehab assignment later this week, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto recently suffered a "minor setback" in his recovery from the lower-half injury that sent him to the injured list in late July, but taking a few days off appears to have resolved the issue. He's slated to go through all baseball activities Tuesday. Barring any issues, Pratto should resume playing in minor-league games before the week comes to a close.
Aug 25 2023Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Pratto (groin) suffered a "minor setback" on his rehab assignment, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto has returned to Kansas City and will be reevaluated Monday. While the setback has been deemed minor, it could still push Pratto's return back into early September. He's been on the shelf since late July with a left groin strain.
Aug 17 2023Pratto (groin) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Omaha. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto is recovered from the left groin strain that sent him to the injured list in late July, and he should be ready to return to the Royals' active roster by early next week after a few tune-up games on the farm. The 24-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder has mostly disappointed this season, slashing just .238/.324/.376 with seven homers and 31 RBI across 299 major-league plate appearances.
Jul 28 2023The Royals placed Pratto on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left groin strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto's production at the plate has been down recently - he's slashing just .189/.286/.297 over the past two weeks. Pratto will now be sidelined until at least Aug. 6, and Samad Taylor will come up from Triple-A Omaha to fill Pratto's roster spot.
Jul 24 2023Pratto is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matt Duffy will get the call at first base against left-hander Logan Allen. While his strikeouts have been exorbitant against both lefties and righties, Pratto has actually fared better versus southpaws this season with a .765 OPS and four of his seven home runs.
Jul 22 2023Pratto went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a solid showing from Pratto, who was one of three Royals to get on base multiple times in the contest. The first baseman had gone 13 games without a homer and hit just .150 (6-for-40) in that span. He's struggled in July, causing his season slash line to fall to .245/.334/.390 with seven homers, 31 RBI, 31 runs scored, 15 doubles and a stolen base through 74 contests. While his walk rate is at a solid 10.1 percent, he's also striking out at an uninspiring 36.6 percent clip, which will likely continue to limit his ability to get on base.
Jul 9 2023Pratto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto will close the Royals' first-half schedule on the bench after he started in each of the last 10 games while slashing .167/.244/.278 with a 46.3 percent strikeout rate. Matt Duffy will fill in at first base for the struggling Pratto.
Jul 4 2023Pratto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI against Minnesota in Monday's loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto tied the scored twice in the contest, notching an RBI single in the third inning and launching a solo shot to right field in the eighth. The first baseman batted out of the No. 3 hole in the order following a pair of games during which he hit cleanup. Pratto served as Kansas City's leadoff hitter for much of June, so he could see more opportunities to drive in runs if his move to the middle of the order remains in place. He's been only moderately productive on the season, slashing .261/.349/.415 with six homers, 26 RBI, 27 runs and one stolen base over 238 plate appearances.
Jun 28 2023Pratto is not in the starting lineup against the Guardians on Wednesday, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto will take a seat after going 0-for-7 over his last two games with six strikeouts. The left-handed hitter will take a breather with Matt Beaty hitting third and playing first base against Logan Allen and the Guardians.
Jun 24 2023Pratto went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 11-3 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He led off the game by ripping Zach Eflin's second pitch over the right-field fence, but things quickly got away from Kansas City after that. Pratto snapped a 15-game power drought with the blast and is up to five homers on the season, but the 24-year-old is slashing just .196/.269/.326 with a 38.5 percent strikeout rate through 13 contests since Vinnie Pasquantino (shoulder) was lost for the year.
Jun 22 2023Pratto isn't in the Royals' lineup Thursday against Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Shane McClanahan will start on the mound for the Rays, meaning the lefty-hitting Pratto will remain in the dugout to begin Thursday's contest. Instead, Matt Duffy will pick up a start at first base and bat sixth.
Jun 18 2023Pratto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto started the past 18 games and will receive a day off after he posted a .781 OPS during that stretch. He should continue to operate as Kansas City's primary first baseman with Vinnie Pasquantino (shoulder) out for the year, though Matt Duffy will start at the position Sunday.
Jun 5 2023Pratto went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Monday's 9-6 loss to the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto led off the third inning with a solo shot off the left-handed Braxton Garrett, his fourth homer of the year and his second in three games. The 24-year-old Pratto has gone 10-for-27 (.370) with a 1.119 OPS in his last seven games, boosting his slash line to .298/.393/.463 with 15 RBI and 17 runs scored through 140 plate appearances this season.
Jun 3 2023Pratto went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto opened the bottom of the first inning with a homer, but it only cut the deficit to 5-1 after a horrendous first frame from Daniel Lynch. This was Pratto's first homer since May 10. He's gone 7-for-19 (.368) over his last five contests while continuing to see time out of the leadoff spot with regularity. The 24-year-old is now slashing .292/.394/.442 with three homers, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored and a stolen base through 33 games. The lack of consistency in the Royals' lineup could make it hard for Pratto to accrue counting stats even if his bat remains solid all year.
May 29 2023Pratto went 3-for-6 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Pratto's fifth turn in the leadoff spot in the last seven games, though he's struggled a bit since he bumped Bobby Witt from atop the order. Over that seven-game span, Pratto has gone 6-for-27 (.222) with just two extra-base hits and a 4:10 BB:K. Despite the recent struggles, he's still sporting one of the Royals' more encouraging batting lines, slashing .301/.395/.437 through 30 contests. Pratto also has a 32.8 percent strikeout rate and just one stolen base on the year, so he doesn't really possess the tools to be an effective long-term option at leadoff.
May 26 2023Pratto isn't in the Royals' lineup Friday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Nationals will begin Friday with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound, so the left-handed Pratto will retreat to the bench. In his place, Edward Olivares will start in left field and bat sixth.
May 22 2023Pratto is starting in left field and batting leadoff for the Royals on Monday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto is one of the few Royals players that's been hitting, so he's rewarded with a move up to the top of the batting order. Former leadoff man Bobby Witt has been demoted to sixth in the lineup.
May 17 2023Pratto went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto nabbed his first major-league steal after drawing a walk in the fifth inning. He showed modest speed in the minors, recording at least eight steals in each of his five seasons, but it's obviously not a huge part of the first baseman's game. He's gone 5-for-18 (.278) over his last five games, and he's now batting .328 with a .908 OPS, two home runs, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored and five doubles through 20 contests on the year.
May 16 2023Pratto isn't starting Tuesday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto has been incredible to start the season, slashing .328/.411/.500 through 73 plate appearances, but he will take a seat to begin Tuesday's contest. Vinnie Pasquantino will start at first base, moving Salvador Perez into the DH spot and Freddy Fermin in as the Royals' catcher.
May 11 2023Pratto went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto singled home a run to kick his day off and then swatted a two-run blast to right in the fourth to extend the Royals' lead to 7-1. Both his hits exceeded 100 mph in exit velocity, and he's been locked in since being called back up April 28, slashing .400/.478/.625 with two homers, 12 RBI, nine runs and a 4:13 BB:K over 46 plate appearances.
May 6 2023Pratto will sit Saturday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto started seven consecutive games after his late-April call-up, hitting .407 but striking out 32.3 percent of the time. His run of starts did include one against a lefty (Kyle Muller on Friday), but he'll hit the bench Saturday against southpaw Ken Waldichuk.
May 5 2023Pratto went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Friday's 12-8 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto got the Royals on the board with his fourth-inning homer. He's produced four multi-hit efforts in the last week since his recall from Triple-A Omaha. The strong hitting of late has him up to a .353/.421/.471 slash line with a long balls, four RBI, five runs scored and a double through 38 plate appearances this season.
May 4 2023Pratto went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto has produced three multi-hit efforts in his five games since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha last week. The first baseman is 9-for-18 with two RBI, a run scored and a 2:8 BB:K over that span. That's been enough to earn him consistent playing time between first base and right field. He'll likely be at first regularly going forward since the Royals are opting to make MJ Melendez a full-time outfielder for a while. Vinnie Pasquantino has also seen more time at designated hitter since Pratto's recall.
May 3 2023Pratto will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll pick up his fifth consecutive start Wednesday, and with the Royals optioning Franmil Reyes to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, the team should have everyday spots available at first base and designated hitter for both Pratto and Vinnie Pasquantino for the foreseeable future. Of course, how long Pratto retains steady playing time will likely hinge on how he performs at the plate. Thus far, the 24-year-old has gone 7-for-21 with a 2:12 BB:K over his first six games with Kansas City this season.
Apr 28 2023Pratto went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Friday's 8-6 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pratto was able to make a solid impact in his first game back with the Royals after he was recalled earlier in the day. The first baseman delivered RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings. He was struggling with a .159/.259/.319 slash line in 19 games with Triple-A Omaha this season, but with few other Royals hitting well, he could earn some playing time while with the big club.
