Jun 25 2024Short went 0-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Orlando Arcia left the game in the sixth inning complaining of dizziness, and Short took over at shortstop and as the No. 9 hitter. It was his first game action since June 5, and with Arcia likely to get at least Tuesday's game off, the 29-year-old utility infielder should pick up his first start since May 25. Short's .150/.320/.200 slash line in 50 plate appearances since joining Atlanta suggests he won't be much more than a DFS punt play, however.
May 29 2024Short remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short is on the bench for the third game in a row and has settled into a full-time reserve role after Austin Riley put an end to his to his two-week absence Monday. While Riley missed 13 consecutive games with a left intercostal strain, Short picked up 12 starts at third base during that stretch, with Luke Williams getting the other nod.
May 23 2024Short is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Austin Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for a 10th consecutive game, but after starting each of the previous nine games in Riley's stead, Short will give way to Luke Williams at third base Thursday. Atlanta is still seemingly viewing Riley as day-to-day, so Short's run of regular playing time at the hot corner could come to an end as soon as this weekend in Pittsburgh.
May 22 2024Short will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will draw a ninth consecutive start at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) remains day-to-day. The 28-year-old has delivered a solid .345 on-base percentage over his prior eight starts, but he's provided little fantasy value with a .208 average, zero home runs or stolen bases and two RBI and runs during that stretch. He'll fall back into a light role once Riley is cleared to return to the lineup.
May 9 2024Atlanta acquired Short from the Red Sox on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will slide right into the role fellow utility infielder Luis Guillorme vacated after being traded to the Angels earlier Thursday. Short, who will turn 29 later this month, is a career .169/.262/.299 hitter over parts of four major-league seasons and has managed just one base hit through 19 plate appearances in 2024 between his time with the Mets and Red Sox.
May 8 2024The Red Sox designated Short for assignment Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short has been swapped off the 26-man active roster in favor of utility man Romy Gonzalez (wrist), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. He'll also lose his spot on the 40-man roster, as Short had no minor-league options remaining and will thus have to be subjected to the waiver process before potentially heading to the Red Sox's top affiliate in Worcester. Short played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts.
May 7 2024The Red Sox will designate Short for assignment on Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will be kicked off the 40-man roster just a week after Boston acquired him from New York. The 28-year-old played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Romy Gonzalez (wrist) will be reinstated from the IL to take Short's spot on the active roster.
May 1 2024The Red Sox acquired Short from the Mets on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short had been designated for assignment but has now found a new home. The utility infielder is out of minor-league options, so he will join the Red Sox's 26-man active roster.
Apr 26 2024Short was designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short is clearing out as J.D. Martinez is added to the Mets' active roster. The 28-year-old utility player had received just 12 plate appearances this month with the big club, picking up one hit. It's possible he'll draw some interest from a team seeking defensive versatility.
Mar 25 2024Short will begin the season on the Mets' 26-man roster, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old infielder has a strong spring at the plate, batting .308 (12-for-39) with a homer, three steals and more walks (seven) than strikeouts (six). Short offers defensive versatility to the Mets' bench, seeing action in more than 30 games at second base, third base and shortstop for the Tigers in 2023, but his most significant role to begin the current campaign is likely to come at the hot corner as a platoon partner for Brett Baty. Short's career .575 OPS over 450 plate appearances in the majors doesn't suggest he'll have much fantasy value, but he has flashed some modest power and speed in the minors.
Nov 6 2023The Mets claimed Short off waivers from the Tigers on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short, 28, is a career .174/.266/.308 hitter over 450 plate appearances in parts of three seasons at the big-league level. He has experience at shortstop, second base, third base and a little in the outfield. Short will compete for a utility job in spring training.
Sep 16 2023Short went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run, two walks and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short had gone 0-for-11 across his previous seven games, though he had a steal in that span. The infielder made his impact early Saturday, with his homer coming in the second inning. He's up to a career-high seven long balls while adding 33 RBI, 16 runs scored, five steals, nine doubles and a .215/.299/.361 slash line over 234 plate appearances in a part-time role.
Sep 9 2023Short (forearm) will bat ninth and play shortstop Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short hadn't seen the field since getting hit by a pitch Wednesday against the Yankees, though he doesn't have an everyday role at the moment, so his absence may not have been injury-related. He hasn't done much to stake a claim for more at-bats down the stretch, posting a .442 OPS in the last month and a .645 OPS on the year.
Sep 6 2023Short received X-rays on his right forearm/wrist after getting hit by a pitch during Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short indicated that he was feeling fine after Wednesday's contest, so the X-rays were likely precautionary. More details on his status will be provided ahead of Thursday's series finale, but an extended absence seems unlikely. Fantasy managers should consider Short day-to-day.
Aug 31 2023Short went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's extra-inning win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short put up the first run of the contest in the fifth inning, swatting a solo shot to left field off Clarke Schmidt. The shortstop hit three long balls over his first 29 at-bats this season but has gone deep just three times across 76 at-bats since. Short had been struggling prior to Thursday, going 2-for-23 with no RBI over his previous 14 games while working mostly in a bench role.
Aug 2 2023Short went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. He also stole a base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short didn't enter the contest until the fourth inning, when he pinch hit for Akil Baddoo. He wasted no time making an impact, driving in two on a single in his first at-bat. Short still profiles as more of a utility player at this point who can't be counted on for a consistent fantasy impact, which is reflected in his .673 OPS across 72 games.
Jul 24 2023Short hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat during Monday's 5-1 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short entered the game in the top of the eighth inning, taking over at third base for Nick Maton. He then went deep in the bottom half of the frame, giving him five home runs this season. That's only one away from his career high, and the infielder reached a new career high in RBI with 22. Short had six home runs and 20 RBI across 61 games back in 2021, then appeared in just six games for the Tigers last year.
Jul 16 2023Short is starting at second base and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will make his first start after the All-Star break, with Zach McKinstry moving over to left field and Nick Maton starting at third base. The Tigers seem to have Spencer Torkelson and Javier Baez locked in at first and shortstop, respectively, but the other two infield positions are a bit more fluid. Short profiles more as a bench option, though he has a chance to see extended run at second if he heats up at the plate. He's batting just .211, however, and hasn't proven to be a dynamic offensive player to this point in his MLB career.
Jul 9 2023Short is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short had started in four of the Tigers' previous five games, but he's unlikely to stick around as a regular in the lineup with Detroit recently welcoming two everyday players in Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo back from the injured list. Second base likely represents Short's most realistic path to playing time, but Andy Ibanez appears to be the Tigers' preferred option at the position at the moment.
Jul 6 2023Short will start at second base and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will pick up his third consecutive start at second base after reaching base twice in seven plate appearances in the first two games of the series with Oakland. Though his playing time has been trending up of late, Short will likely find himself as one of the odd men out of the lineup by the weekend, when Detroit is expected to get two regulars back from the injured list in Akil Baddoo (quadriceps) and Riley Greene (fibula).
Jun 21 2023Short went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three total RBI in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite batting ninth, Short played a key offensive role in the win. The utility infielder entered the game mired in a 1-for-14 slump, but he bounced back in a big way and is now batting .271 for the season. Short is just a career .180 hitter, however, so it remains to be seen if he can keep up this level of success the rest of the way.
Jun 14 2023Short is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Andy Ibanez will step in at the keystone in place of Short, who went 5-for-19 with a double and five RBI while starting at second base in five of the Tigers' previous six games. Short will most likely be back in the lineup for the nightcap.
Jun 11 2023Short is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will hit the bench for the series finale after starting at second base in each of the past four games while going 3-for-14 with a double and three RBI. Nick Maton will step in for Short at the keystone.
Jun 5 2023Short is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now on the bench for the third time in four games, Short's temporary run as the Tigers' preferred option at second base appears to have come to an end. Andy Ibanez has occupied the keystone in each of the three games that Short has sat out, and Ibanez looks as though he may see the bulk of the starts at the position while Zack McKinstry is seeing most of his opportunities in right field these days to aid a banged-up Detroit outfield.
May 31 2023Short will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will stick in the lineup for the fifth game in a row, and after producing a 1.012 OPS over the past four contests, he looks like he'll stick around in a near-everyday role while the Tigers deal with a host of injuries. With outfielders Riley Greene (fibula) and Matt Vierling (back) both landing on the 10-day injured list within the past two days, Zach McKinstry is expected to see more time in right field moving forward, opening up room in the infield for Short. The 28-year-old Short will likely rotate between second and third base, with his position depending on whether Nick Maton is included in the lineup on a given day.
May 30 2023Short is starting at second base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He could be used fairly regularly in the leadoff spot versus left-handed pitching while Matt Vierling (back) is sidelined. Short is sporting a nifty .937 OPS with three home runs in 20 games with the big club, although his track record suggest the success is likely to be short-lived (no pun intended).
May 27 2023Short went 1-for-2 with two walks and a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the White Sox. He also stole a base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short has looked good in 19 games with the Tigers, as he's now batting .310 with a 1.084 OPS. Short has a career .160 batting average with a .588 OPS, so the production this year has been unexpected to say the least. However, the hot stretch could earn him some extended playing time in the short term.
May 24 2023Short went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short pinch-hit for Akil Baddoo in the sixth inning when Kansas City turned to lefty Josh Taylor. Short made the decision pay off, as he launched his second home run of the season with two runners on to put the Tigers up 4-1. The utility infielder is now batting .280 with a .939 OPS through 16 games, but he's unlikely to be a regular fantasy contributor unless he starts to see more playing time.
Apr 30 2023Short went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Called up Saturday morning to be the 27th man on the roster for the twin bill, Short got the start at his namesake position and batted ninth in the matinee. The 27-year-old rose to the occasion, taking DL Hall deep in the eighth inning for his first big-league homer since August of 2021, and after Short came off the bench in the nightcap to draw a walk and score a run, Detroit rewarded him by keeping him in the majors and sending Tyler Nevin back to Triple-A Toledo in his place. Short isn't going to unseat Javier Baez, but he could carve out a utility role -- in 21 games for Toledo prior to his promotion, he saw action at second base, center field and left field in addition to his natural position at shortstop.
Apr 29 2023Short will be the 27th man for the Tigers in Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short is even starting at shortstop -- and batting ninth -- in the early tilt versus the O's and right-hander Dean Kremer. He'll head back to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Aug 31 2022Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short was promoted by the Tigers last week and appeared in four games during his brief time in the majors, and he went 0-for-6 with a walk, two RBI and three strikeouts. The 27-year-old will head back to the minors with Spencer Torkelson and Ryan Kreidler set to be called up Thursday.
Aug 23 2022Short is starting at second base and batting ninth Tuesday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being recalled Tuesday, Short will draw the start at second base in place of Jonathan Schoop (ankle), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Short will be in the Tigers' starting lineup for the second time this season.
Aug 3 2022The Tigers optioned Short to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short's stay with the Tigers lasted just one day, with the 27-year-old going unused in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Twins. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Daz Cameron, who was recalled from Toledo to bolster the Tigers' outfield depth after Robbie Grossman was shipped to Atlanta earlier this week.
Aug 2 2022Short was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short was optioned to Triple-A late last month, but he will rejoin the Tigers on the heels of the moves they made the last couple days. He figures to fill a utility role for the big club.
Jul 23 2022Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Saturday's loss to the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shorts was optioned to make room for Rony Garcia (shoulder) to return from 15-day injured list to start Sunday. After being called up Thursday, the 27-year-old went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in his only appearance in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Athletics.
Jul 21 2022Short went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader win over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short was called up from Triple-A Toledo early Thursday and started at shortstop for the first game of the twin bill. Though he wasn't able to get a hit, the 27-year-old opened the ninth inning with a walk, stole second base and came around to score on a Riley Greene single. Short has a bit of power and speed, but he's never hit well beyond the lowest levels of the minors and doesn't appear destined for more than a reserve role in the majors.
Mar 26 2022Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short appeared in 61 major-league games last year but will begin the 2022 campaign in the minors after he went 1-for-9 with two runs, two RBI, a stolen base and a walk across seven Grapefruit League outings this year. He hit .236 with nine homers, 30 runs, 29 RBI and two stolen bases in Toledo in 2021.
Sep 26 2021The Tigers recalled Short from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short has hit .224 with three home runs since being optioned to Toledo on Sept. 3. He now fills the big-league roster spot of Victor Reyes (groin) and figures to serve as infield depth for the remainder of the regular season.
Sep 3 2021Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short didn't start any of the last three games, but he should receive more consistent at-bats in the minors. The 26-year-old had slashed just .111/.150/.222 with three home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs and a stolen base in 38 games since the All-Star break.
Aug 22 2021Short is starting at shortstop and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers are facing the left-handed Steven Matz, marking their fifth straight game against a lefty starter, so Harold Castro will hit the bench and Short picks up the start. It looks like the two players are forming a platoon, with Castro on the strong side despite sitting out three of the last five contests. Short is slashing just .146/.245/.308 in 47 games this year, so his fantasy value is limited even when he's in the lineup.
Aug 20 2021Short went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 4-1 extra-inning win over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short created Detroit's game-tying run in the eighth inning. He got aboard with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. The shortstop hasn't done much with limited playing time this year, slashing .150/.250/.315 with six home runs, two stolen bases, 19 RBI and 17 runs scored through 152 plate appearances. He's settled into the short side of a platoon with Harold Castro at shortstop.
Aug 11 2021The Tigers recalled Short from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday, Short is eligible to rejoin the Tigers before the minimum 10 days after outfielders Akil Baddoo (concussion) and Derek Hill (rib) were placed on the injured list Wednesday in corresponding moves. Niko Goodrum returned from an IL stint earlier this week and has taken back starting duties at shortstop, but the injuries to Baddoo and Hill could result in the versatile 29-year-old taking on more work in the outfield. If that's the case, Short would be vying primarily with Willi Castro for reps at shortstop.
Aug 8 2021Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short had appeared in nine of the last 10 games, but he went 0-for-23 with two RBI, three walks and 12 strikeouts during that time. The 26-year-old will attempt to sort things out in the minors, while Niko Goodrum (calf) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against Baltimore.
Aug 6 2021Short is not in the starting lineup Friday against Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will sit for the second time in four games as he continues to struggle through a 4-for-48 slump that dates back to July 18. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat third Friday.
Aug 3 2021Short is not starting Tuesday's series opener against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Having gone hitless in four consecutive games, Short is in the midst of a considerable slump, marked by a .102 average and 16 strikeouts in 49 at-bats since the All-Star break. Harold Castro will play shortstop and bat seventh Tuesday.
Jul 30 2021Short isn't starting Friday's game against the Orioles, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will get a breather after he went 1-for-11 with a double, two RBI, a run and four strikeouts across the last three games. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh.
Jul 26 2021Short will be on the bench Monday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. He's hit an unimpressive .188/.306/.400 in 28 games this season, though that's still overall better than the .217/.277/.360 line produced by Willi Castro, who starts at shortstop in his absence.
Jul 25 2021Short is starting at shortstop and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short returns to the lineup after a one-game absence. Willi Castro was recently recalled from Triple-A Toledo, but the team has been using him mostly at second base, so Short should remain the team's primary shortstop, at least until Niko Goodrum (calf) returns from the injured list. Harold Castro, who started Saturday, will continue serving in a utility role.
Jul 24 2021Short isn't starting Saturday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will get a breather after he went 2-for-14 with two home runs, three RBI and two strikeouts across the last four games. Harold Castro will shift to shortstop while Willi Castro takes over at second base.
Jul 22 2021Short went 1-for-4 with a home run in Thursday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short launched one of three home runs against Texas starter Mike Foltynewicz, giving the infielder five home runs this season. Short has become the team's top option at shortstop with Niko Goodrum (calf) on the injured list and Willi Castro currently working at Triple-A, though Goodrum is expected to begin a rehab assignment within the next week. His return could cut into Short's playing time.
Jul 19 2021Short isn't starting Monday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short had started in each of the last three games, and he went 1-for-10 with a run and five strikeouts during that time. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh.
Jul 17 2021Short is not starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder struggled considerably leading up to the break, hitting .111 and striking out 14 times in his last 27 at-bats. Niko Goodrum will start at shortstop for the first game, with Short likely to get the nod Saturday night.
Jul 16 2021Short will not be in the lineup for the afternoon portion of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short sits after starting nine straight games to end the first half, a stretch in which he recorded just three hits. Niko Goodrum starts at shortstop in his absence.
Jul 10 2021Short will start Saturday's game in Minnesota and bat eighth after Nomar Mazara (illness) was scratched from the lineup, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short will fill in at shortstop for Niko Goodrum, who is moving to the outfield to replace Mazara.
Jul 5 2021Short went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning with a runner on to extend the Tigers' lead to 6-0. He added a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 7-0, and Detroit would hang on for the 7-3 victory. Short has started to see more playing time and has responded well, as he now has a .937 OPS for the season. Niko Goodrum (finger) began a rehab assignment recently and could complicate things when he's able to return to the team, but Short is at least making a case for a regular role moving forward.
Jul 2 2021Short is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short started at shortstop during both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against Cleveland, but he'll begin Friday's game on the bench. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh.
Jun 28 2021Short is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Cleveland, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short started each of the Tigers' previous three games at shortstop, going 2-for-8 with a home run, double and a walk. Harold Castro will get the nod at the position in Monday's series opener, but Short could at least be part of a timeshare while the Tigers await the return of top option Niko Goodrum (finger) from the injured list.
Jun 26 2021Short will remain on the 26-man roster after serving as the club's 27th man during Saturday's doubleheader against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short went 2-for-2 with a double and home run during Game 1 before striking out in all three of his Game 2 plate appearances. Short is now hitting .313/.476/.563 across 16 at-bats with the Tigers this season. He could see the bulk of the time at shortstop in coming days with Niko Goodrum out with a finger injury. Isaac Paredes was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 5 2021Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short appeared in just three games during his most recent stint on the major-league roster, and he went 2-for-6 with two runs, three walks and three strikeouts. His demotion will make room for right-hander Jose Urena (forearm), who will be reinstated from the injured list Sunday to start the series finale against the White Sox.
May 29 2021Short was recalled by the Tigers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short spent just over a month in the minors and slashed .227/.424/.409 with two home runs, nine runs scored and seven RBI in 13 games with Triple-A Toledo. He'll reclaim a major-league roster spot after right-hander Jose Urena (forearm) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, but Short should serve mainly in a depth role.
Apr 24 2021Short was optioned to the Tigers' alternate training site following Saturday's loss to the Royals, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short was called up by the Tigers on Wednesday and went 1-for-5 with two walks and three strikeouts while appearing in three games. However, he'll now be removed from the major-league roster to make room for Miguel Cabrera (biceps), who will be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against Kansas City.
Apr 21 2021Short was recalled from the Tigers' alternate training site Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short can play second base and shortstop -- two positions that are typically occupied by Niko Goodrum and Willi Castro, so it will be interesting to see how he gets deployed. Renato Nunez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, so there will also be at-bats available at designated hitter. The 25-year-old hit .211/.338/.414 with a 13.1 percent walk rate and 31.3 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A with the Cubs in 2019.
Mar 16 2021The Tigers optioned Short to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short was one of six Tigers demoted as the organization reduced its contingent at big-league camp to 42 men. The 25-year-old shortstop is expected to handle an everyday role at Toledo in 2021.
Nov 20 2019Short was added to the Cubs' 40-man roster Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Short played only 63 minor-league games in 2019 and posted a .235/.363/.404 slash line with six home runs. The move to the 40-man roster protects him from the Rule 5 draft.
