Jun 27 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitter Max Kepler as the Twins add a pair of right-handed bats (Manuel Margot and Kyle Farmer) to the lineup to counter Diamondbacks southpaw Jordan Montgomery. Expect Larnach to rejoin the starting nine for the Twins' series opener in Seattle on Friday, when right-hander Logan Gilbert is scheduled to take the hill for the Mariners.
Jun 23 2024Larnach isn't in the Twins' lineup for Sunday's game versus the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach and his career .569 OPS against lefties will take a seat Sunday against left-handed starter Hogan Harris. Willi Castro will fill the opening in left field while Kyle Farmer starts at the keystone, batting eighth.
Jun 16 2024Larnach went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in an 8-7 win over the Athletics in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach sat out the day game against opposing lefty JP Sears, but he was able to make an impact in the nightcap by homering off right-hander Joey Estes. This was Larnach's first homer since June 2, and he had just one extra-base hit, a double, in the 10 contests in between long balls. He's up to a .261/.318/.440 slash line with seven homers, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and one stolen base over 41 contests. Larnach should continue to play in a strong-side platoon role between designated hitter and the corner outfield spots.
Jun 12 2024Larnach isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Southpaw Austin Gomber is starting for the Rockies, so the left-handed-hitting Larnach will begin Wednesday's game on the bench. Willi Castro will occupy left field and Royce Lewis will serve as the Twins' designated hitter while Larnach and fellow lefty hitter Alex Kirilloff exit the lineup.
Jun 5 2024Larnach isn't in the Twins' lineup Wednesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed bat of Larnach will retreat to the dugout Wednesday with lefty Carlos Rodon set to start on the bump for the Yankees. His absence will move Jose Miranda into the DH role while Carlos Santana starts at first base.
May 31 2024Larnach went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-1 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach drew his fourth consecutive start hitting leadoff, as he appears to have secured that role against right-handed starters for the Twins. The 27-year-old outfielder launched a 401-foot home run off Ronel Blanco in fifth inning, extending Minnesota's lead to 4-1. Overall, Larnach is slashing .268/.327/.443 in 107 plate appearances this season.
May 30 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Thursday's contest being a day game after a night game, manager Rocco Baldelli will give rest to several key regulars. Along with Larnach, Max Kepler, Edouard Julien and Alex Kirilloff will rest as the Twins open up room in the lineup for reserves Christian Vazquez, Manuel Margot, Kyle Farmer and Carlos Santana.
May 28 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will take a seat Tuesday with southpaw Cole Ragans on the mound for Kansas City. Ryan Jeffers will slide to the DH spot while Christian Vazquez fills in behind the dish.
May 27 2024Larnach went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marked Larnach's second straight start hitting leadoff, casting Edouard Julien into the eighth spot. The 27-year-old outfielder extended the Twins lead to five with a monstrous 441-foot, three-run homer off Royals starter Alec Marsh in the fifth inning. Overall, Larnach is slashing .270/.333/.427 in 99 plate appearances this season.
May 21 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is one of many Twins players in a platoon, and his absence from the lineup Tuesday will leave DH duties to Ryan Jeffers, who's batting second. Larnach is amidst an ugly slump, going hitless in his last 17 at-bats.
May 18 2024Larnach isn't in the Twins' lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Larnach will step out of the lineup as the Twins prepare to face southpaw Logan Allen. Ryan Jeffers will move into the DH spot as a result, allowing Christian Vazquez to start at catcher while batting ninth.
May 14 2024Larnach is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach hasn't started a game against a lefty this season, and that streak will continue as the Yankees turn to southpaw Carlos Rodon on Tuesday. Ryan Jeffers will be the designated hitter while Christian Vazquez does the catching.
May 10 2024Larnach is not listed in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed batter will let righty catcher Ryan Jeffers start at designated hitter as Minnesota takes on southpaw pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Larnach is slashing an impressive .345/.393/.545 on the season with 11 RBI and three home runs.
May 4 2024Larnach isn't in the Twins' lineup for Saturday's game against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Red Sox will send southpaw Brennan Bernardino to the mound to begin Saturday's contest, forcing the lefty-hitting Larnach to step out of the lineup. His absence will move Ryan Jeffers into the DH spot while Christian Vazquez starts behind the plate and bats seventh.
Apr 29 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll hit the bench for a second straight day while the White Sox bring lefty Garrett Crochet to the hill, the lefty-hitting Larnach's playing-time outlook improved earlier Monday, when Austin Martin was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. With Martin removed from the outfield mix, Larnach could serve as Minnesota's primary option in left field when the Twins face right-handed pitching. Since getting called up from Triple-A on April 16, Larnach has posted a 1.096 OPS over 34 plate appearances.
Apr 28 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has moved into a semi-regular role in the outfield or at designated hitter since Max Kepler returned from the injured list Monday, but both left-handed hitters will find themselves out of the lineup Sunday while southpaw Reid Detmers toes the rubber for the Angels. The Twins will run out an outfield of Austin Martin, Byron Buxton and Manuel Margot from left to right, while catcher Ryan Jeffers gets a day off behind the plate and serves as Minnesota's DH.
Apr 24 2024Larnach is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting each of the past seven games while going 7-for-20 with four extra-base hits (two home runs, two doubles), the lefty-hitting Larnach will retreat to the bench while southpaw Garrett Crochet takes the hill for the White Sox. Though Minnesota's outfield ranks became more crowded earlier this week when Max Kepler returned from the IL, expect manager Rocco Baldelli to open up at least semi-regular work for Larnach while he's wielding a hot bat.
Apr 19 2024Larnach went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his third game back from the injured list, Larnach hammered a two-run shot in the first inning. It was his first home run and first multi-hit game of the 2024 season. In 58 MLB games last season, Larnach slashed .213/.311/.415 with 18 extra-base hits and 40 RBI.
Apr 16 2024The Twins recalled Larnach (toe) from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old opened St. Paul's season on the injured list with turf toe, but he recently completed a three-game rehab assignment with Single-A Fort Myers. Larnach will take the roster spot of Matt Wallner, who is being demoted after a 2-for-25 start to the campaign.
Apr 11 2024Larnach (toe) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Fort Myers on Thursday, Fort Myers radio play-by-play broadcaster John Vittas reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been out all season with turf toe but is feeling well enough to test himself out in a game setting. He'll move up to Triple-A St. Paul in short order and eventually be activated from the 7-day injured list, assuming all goes well during his rehab stint with Fort Myers.
Mar 18 2024The Twins optioned Larnach to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is a major-league caliber player but there's not room for him on the Twins' roster right now. He'll play regularly at St. Paul while waiting for another opportunity with the big club.
Mar 2 2024Larnach went 0-for-1 with two walks in Saturday's spring training loss to the Phillies. He's 2-for-10 with two walks in four games this spring. With the Twins trading for Manual Margot, Larnach is not seen making the major league roster out of spring training, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach hit 15 HR In 72 games with a .888 OPS at Triple-A last season, but needs to make more contact once reaching the majors (60.7% contact rate) to stay in the big leagues if he gets another chance. If he can reduce his strikeouts (34% K%), he could still find a steady role in the majors if the Twins have an opening this summer.
Oct 1 2023Larnach was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Rockies for unspecified reasons. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach clubbed a grand slam in Saturday's contest and was poised to start in left field Sunday, but he was absent from the starting nine when Minnesota released an updated lineup. It's unclear if the 26-year-old is dealing with an injury, and he should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.
Sep 20 2023Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, but he is not in the lineup against the Reds, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Carlos Correa (plantar fasciitis) landing on the 10-day injured list and Royce Lewis (hamstring) also ailing, Willi Castro's services may be needed more on the dirt than in the outfield, so Larnach will offer some short-term outfield depth. Larnach is slashing .307/.411/.536 with seven home runs and a 26.3 percent strikeout rate in 140 at-bats since getting optioned to Triple-A on July 27.
Jul 27 2023Larnach was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach was only up for a few days while Byron Buxton was on paternity leave and now heads back to the minors with Buxton back in tow. The outfielder has put up a .715 OPS with six home runs in 50 games with the big club in 2023.
Jul 24 2023Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. He'll start in left field and bat seventh in the Twins' series opener versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has an .819 OPS with St. Paul this season but just a .699 OPS during his time in the majors. The left-handed batter is taking Byron Buxton's (paternity) spot on the roster and might be returned to the minors later this week once Buxton is back.
Jun 14 2023The Twins optioned Larnach to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored during Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Larnach will head back to Triple-A. The 26-year-old outfielder holds a below-average .689 OPS in the majors this season, but he could return later this year -- especially if he performs anywhere near his .348/.516/.826 Triple-A slash line.
Jun 10 2023Larnach went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His seventh-inning shot off Bowden Francis got the Twins on the board and set the stage for a late comeback. Larnach's homer was his sixth of the year while the steal was his first, and the 26-year-old collected his first hits since returning from a bout of pneumonia June 6.
Jun 6 2023Minnesota activated Larnach (illness) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is back in action for the Twins after missing around two weeks due to a bout of pneumonia. He's registered a .215/.316/.392 batting line with five home runs and 27 RBI through 39 major-league games this year.
Jun 3 2023Larnach (illness) has a jersey in his locker and he could rejoin Minnesota before Sunday's game against the Guardians, Patrick Borzi of MinnPost.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is still on his rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul in Buffalo, but the placement of the jersey in his locker suggests that his return is coming soon. The outfielder would be a welcome addition to a Twins' lineup that has dealt with a plethora of injuries as of late.
Jun 1 2023Larnach (illness) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A St. Paul, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will probably remain with St. Paul through the weekend as he looks to get back into a groove following a bout of pneumonia. He's been on the shelf since May 22 and was struggling offensively in the leadup to the IL stint.
May 23 2023The Twins placed Larnach on the 10-day injured list Tuesday while he recovers from pneumonia, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move is retroactive to Monday, leaving Larnach eligible to return June 1. Whether he'll be ready by that time isn't clear at this point. The Twins called up outfielder Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move, and he and Kyle Garlick could end up forming a platoon in the corner outfield while Larnach is on the shelf.
May 20 2023Larnach is out of the lineup against the Angels on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will take a seat with southpaw Patrick Sandoval on the bump for the Angels. Kyle Garlick gets the start in right field for the Twins against Sandoval and will hit fifth.
May 15 2023Larnach went 1-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Monday's loss against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach erased a three-run deficit in the eighth inning with a 436-foot homer. The outfielder has gone deep in consecutive games. Larnach had 12 career homers in 481 plate appearances in his first two seasons. He is already up to five home runs in 137 plate appearances this season.
May 14 2023Larnach went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBI, one walk and two total runs scored in Sunday's 16-3 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach's three-run homer in the third inning was enough to put the Twins ahead for good, and he added an RBI double in the eighth. He's racked up three hits over two games since returning to the majors with Max Kepler (hamstring) on the injured list. Larnach is now slashing .234/.341/.396 with four homers, 23 RBI, 15 runs scored and four doubles over 33 contests. If Joey Gallo (leg) misses any additional time after leaving Sunday's game, Larnach's playing time should remain steady.
May 13 2023Larnach was recalled by the Twins on Saturday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach lost his roster spot in early May but returns eight days later with Max Kepler (hamstring) hitting the injured list. Larnach started the season well, posting a .976 OPS over his first eight games, but he slumped to a .164/.276/.288 line over his next 23 contests while striking out 39.1 percent of the time. Strikeouts have been a problem throughout the 26-year-old's career, as he's hit .225/.319/.368 with 15 homers in 161 games while striking out 33.7 percent of the time.
May 5 2023Minnesota optioned Larnach to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is sent down with Alex Kirilloff coming up from St. Paul in a corresponding transaction. In 124 plate appearances with Minnesota in 2023, Larnach slashed .221/.331/.356 with three homers and 19 RBI over 31 games. He could be back with Minnesota in the coming weeks, but the Twins will likely give Kirilloff a chance to earn a regular spot while Larnach is in Triple-A.
May 4 2023Larnach is absent from the Twins' lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Chicago righty Lucas Giolito has reverse splits, so the left-handed hitting Larnach will be taking a seat for Thursday's series finale. Joey Gallo is in left field and Donovan Solano will cover first base.
Apr 3 2023Larnach went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, two total runs and three total RBI in an 11-1 win over the Marlins on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach racked up seven total bases on his two hits, swatting an RBI triple in the third inning and launching a 410-foot, two-run homer to center field in the seventh. The 26-year-old posted his third multi-hit performance across the Twins' first four games, and he's reached base at least once in every contest thus far. Larnach is off to a hot start to the campaign, slashing .438/.526/.750 with five RBI through 19 plate appearances.
Mar 29 2023Larnach will start in left field and bat fourth in the Twins' regular-season opener against the Royals on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He goes from on the roster bubble entering camp to cleaning up Opening Day against veteran right-hander Zack Greinke. Joey Gallo is at first base -- batting seventh -- with Alex Kirilloff (wrist) beginning the season on the injured list. Larnach is coming off a monster spring in which he hit .351 with four homers across 13 Grapefruit League games.
Mar 12 2023Larnach went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk in Sunday's spring training loss to Detroit. He's hitting .231 with a home run and a .795 OPS in five games this spring. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: More importantly, Larnach looks healthy after missing time with a groin injury early in camp. With Nick Gordon (ankle) and Alex Kirilloff (wrist) looking iffy for the start of the regular season, Larnach could begin the season as the regular DH.
Mar 7 2023Larnach (groin) returned to Grapefruit League play Tuesday and had no issues, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been battling a groin injury but was able to test it out with some plays in Tuesday's game and came out of it no worse for wear. He went 1-for-3 with a single against the Orioles. Larnach played left field Tuesday but could wind up with most of his at-bats in the designated hitter spot this season.
Mar 6 2023Larnach (lower body) is expected back in the Twins' lineup Tuesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been sidelined for a few days with an unspecified lower-body injury, but whatever he was dealing with appears to have subsided. He's expected to play left field Tuesday. Larnach is 1-for-5 with a single and one walk so far in two games this spring.
Feb 28 2023Larnach didn't play Tuesday because of a lower-body issue, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told Nick Nelson of TwinsDaily.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The skipper didn't have any additional details, but worth noting is that Larnach missed much of the 2022 campaign with a core injury. The hope is that Larnach will be ready to play in a few days. If healthy, Larnach should see regular playing time against righties this season between the corner outfield spots and designated hitter.
Feb 27 2023Larnach started at DH and went 1-for-3 in his spring debut in Monday's loss to Boston. He's 1-for-5 with a walk in two games this spring. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach had an injury-plagued 2022 season, as he had core muscle surgery June 27 and didn't play in the majors again. He worked his way back to Triple-A during a rehab assignment but then was sidelined by a wrist injury. He'll battle for a roster spot this spring and could win a starting DH role. He could also begin the season at Triple-A, especially after the Twins added Donovan Solano to the reserve infielder mix. Larnach, a 2018 first-round draft pick, has 30-plus home run potential if he can make more contact.
Feb 19 2023Larnach has looked healthy in early spring practices and homered against Jhoan Duran recently in batting practice, Dan Hays of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach had an injury-plagued 2022 season as he had core muscle surgery June 27 and didn't play in the majors again. He worked his way back to Triple-A during a rehab assignment but then was sidelined by a wrist injury. It looks like he's healthy as spring training begins, so he's someone to monitor. He'll battle for a roster spot this spring and could win a starting DH role, but he could also begin the season at Triple-A. The 2018 first-round draft pick has 30-plus home run potential if he can make more contact.
Sep 23 2022Larnach dealt with wrist soreness Thursday while rehabbing with Triple-A St. Paul, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been out since late-June abdominal surgery. He went 5-for-17 through five rehab games but is now considered day-to-day again. If this setback turns out to be anything other than particularly minor, Larnach's season could be over, as the Twins have dropped out of the playoff picture.
Sep 15 2022Larnach (abdomen) had his rehab shifted to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach recently started to play rehab games in the instructional league, but he'll serve as the designated hitter and bat third during Thursday's matchup at St. Paul. Manager Rocco Baldelli said this week that Larnach isn't yet up to full speed, so the 25-year-old will presumably require multiple rehab games before he's in consideration to return.
Sep 14 2022Larnach (abdomen) has started to play rehab games in the instructional league but isn't back to full speed, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Having him "cutting it loose and throwing and moving around in the outfield in an unrestricted manner ... definitely took more out of him or were a little more challenging than we originally thought," said manager Rocco Baldelli. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It sounds like Larnach has a chance to return before the end of the regular season, but he could be shut down if the Twins fall completely out of the playoff race. Larnach has been out of action since undergoing a bilateral surgical repair procedure June 28.
Sep 1 2022Larnach (abdomen) was transferred from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has already spent more than the 60-day minimum on the shelf after undergoing core muscle surgery in late June, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his return timeline. The 25-year-old is beginning a rehab assignment with Single-A Fort Myers on Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports, so the outfielder could be back with the Twins within the next couple weeks.
Aug 29 2022Larnach (abdomen) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Single-A Fort Myers, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will likely require at least a handful of games in the minors before receiving clearance to return from the 10-day IL after spending the last two months recovering from a bilateral surgical repair procedure. Park notes that Larnach will initially return to game action strictly in a designated hitter role.
Aug 22 2022Larnach (core) has progressed to taking live at-bats and sprinting at full effort, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been out of action since undergoing a bilateral surgical repair procedure June 28. The Twins initially projected for Larnach to miss around eight weeks following the procedure, but based on where he currently stands in the rehab process, he'll likely need a little extra time before he's ready to return from the 10-day injured list. If he remains free of setbacks over the next few days while taking part in full baseball activities, Larnach could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment before the end of August.
Aug 13 2022Larnach (core muscle strain) hit and threw without issues Friday and also did change-of-direction drills, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach had core muscle surgery June 27 and the Twins have said they hope he can return in September. Before being placed on the IL, Larnach had been serving as a regular starter in left field and was slashing .231/.306/.406 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 180 plate appearances on the season.
Aug 7 2022Larnach, who had core muscle surgery on June 27, is nearing the end of his recovery period and manager Rocco Baldelli said he could return in September, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Baldelli did not give out many specifics, so it's not clear if Larnach has resumed baseball activities or will go on a rehab assignment soon.
Jun 27 2022Larnach is expected to miss six weeks after undergoing core muscle surgery Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a largely disappointing rookie season, Larnach started showing a bit more at the plate this year, as his .231/.306/.406 slash line through 51 games was good for a 102 wRC+. He won't get the chance to continue to build on that performance for quite some time, however, as he's now on track to be out until at least sometime in early or mid-August. Nick Gordon has started three straight games in left field in his absence.
Jun 25 2022Larnach was placed on the 10-day injured list with a core muscle strain Saturday, retroactive to June 24, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach missed time with a groin injury in May but was back on the field for just over a month and slashed .172/.264/.376 with five homers, four doubles, 11 RBI and 10 runs over 29 games since returning from the injured list. However, he's dealing with a core issue that will force him to miss at least a week and a half. A timetable for the 25-year-old's return isn't yet known, but Mark Contreras was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to provide assistance in the outfield.
Jun 24 2022Larnach is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach is 3-for-25 with eight strikeouts over his past eight contests and will take a seat Friday for the second time in the past three games. Nick Gordon will start in left field and bat seventh against Colorado righty German Marquez.
Jun 21 2022Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has fallen into a 3-for-25 skid at the plate over his last seven starts, so he'll get a chance to hit the reset button as Minnesota opens its series with Cleveland. Gilberto Celestino will fill in for Larnach in left field.
Jun 15 2022Larnach isn't starting Wednesday against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach went 1-for-13 with two walks and five strikeouts over the last four games and will get a breather Wednesday. Gilberto Celestino is starting in left field and batting ninth.
Jun 8 2022Larnach isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will get a day off after he went 1-for-22 with a homer, two runs, a walk and 10 strikeouts over the last six games. Gilberto Celestino is starting in left field and batting seventh.
May 29 2022Larnach went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, a double and two RBI in a 7-3 win Sunday over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach recorded hits in his first three at-bats, singling in the second, hitting a solo blast in the fourth off Zack Greinke and producing an RBI double in the sixth. It was the second consecutive game in which the 25-year-old has homered. With a .310/.380/.529 batting line in 100 plate appearances, the outfielder is off to a great start in his second big-league season.
May 26 2022Larnach isn't starting Thursday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach started in three of the last four games and went 2-for-11 with a home run, two RBI and four strikeouts. Kyle Garlick will take over in left field and bat third.
May 25 2022Larnach went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach took Rony Garcia yard in the fourth inning to record his first home run of the campaign. It was also his first hit since being activated from the injured list May 22. Larnach is in line to receive the majority of starts in left field, and he has maintained a .295/.341/.449 line with nine RBI and 13 runs scored across 85 plate appearances on the season.
May 24 2022Larnach will sit Tuesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach started in his first two games back from a groin injury, going 0-for-8 with four strikeouts. He won't be asked to start on three consecutive days right away, so he'll sit as Gilberto Celestino starts in left field.
May 22 2022Larnach (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old has been sidelined by a strained right groin since May 7, but he'll rejoin the Twins after a two-game rehab stint with Double-A Wichita. Larnach will bat fifth and start in left field in Sunday's series finale against the Royals.
May 19 2022Larnach (groin) is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A Wichita. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach has been out for just under two weeks with a right groin strain, so Minnesota could opt to keep him on the rehab assignment through the weekend before bringing him back from the 10-day injured list. Once he's likely activated later this week or early next week, Larnach should take over as the Twins' everyday left fielder, which will result in Nick Gordon moving into a utility role.
May 16 2022Larnach (groin) has resumed baseball activities, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach's injury is seen as minor, so it's possible he could be activated from the IL when eligible May 18. However, he may need a short rehab stint in the minors.
May 8 2022The Twins placed Larnach on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right groin strain, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach's move to the IL comes after he suffered the injury while throwing out a baserunner in Friday's 2-1 win over Oakland, according to Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He won't be eligible to return from the IL until May 18. While Larnach is on the shelf, the Twins will likely lean on a combination of Alex Kirilloff, Gilberto Celestino and Nick Gordon to fill in for him in left field.
May 7 2022Larnach's removal from Saturday's lineup against the Athletics was due to lower body tightness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gary Sanchez will serve as the designated hitter and bat fourth Saturday, but interim manager Jayce Tingler is hopeful that Larnach will be available off the bench. Regardless of whether the 25-year-old appears as a depth option Saturday, he should be considered day-to-day for now.
May 3 2022Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Platoon mate Gilberto Celestino will check into the starting nine in place of the lefty-hitting Larnach, who takes a seat with southpaw Bruce Zimmermann on the hill for Baltimore. Larnach went 1-for-3 with a double and run in Monday's 2-1 win, extending his streak to three games with a two-bagger.
May 1 2022Larnach is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Josh Fleming on the bump for the Rays, the lefty-hitting Larnach will give way in the lineup to Kyle Garlick, who is serving as the Twins' designated hitter one day after slugging two home runs in Minnesota's 9-1 win. Larnach is expected to continue to sit regularly against lefties, and his time as a strong-side platoon player may end as soon as Alex Kirilloff (wrist) is deemed ready to return from his rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul.
Apr 30 2022Larnach was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old was initially slated to get a breather Saturday with left-hander Shane McClanahan starting for Tampa Bay, but he'll join the starting nine after Byron Buxton (hand) was a late scratch. Larnach will start in right field and bat ninth.
Apr 26 2022Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump for Detroit, the lefty-hitting Larnach will sit for only the second time since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on April 13. While starting in each of the Twins' last nine games, Larnach has produced a modest .242/.278/.333 slash line while striking out in 30.6 percent of his plate appearances, so he likely won't have much of a case to hold down an everyday role in the outfield once Alex Kirilloff (wrist) potentially makes his return from the injured list later this week. Kyle Garlick will replace Larnach in left field Tuesday.
Apr 16 2022Larnach started in left field and went 3-for-4 with a double in Saturday's loss at Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach and Kyle Garlick are likely to platoon in left field while Alex Kirilloff is on the injured list with a wrist injury. While an MRI didn't show a major issue with Kirilloff's wrist, he could still be out several weeks or more. Larnach looks set to get a stretch of regular playing time on the strong side of that platoon.
Apr 13 2022Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach was unable to make the Twins' Opening Day roster this year, and he hit .105 with two RBI and a run in five appearances with St. Paul to begin the season. However, the 25-year-old will now join the major-league club to provide outfield depth after Alex Kirilloff (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Mar 30 2022Larnach was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach spent plenty of time with the major-league club last year, and he slashed .223/.322/.350 with seven homers, 29 runs and 28 RBI across 79 appearances with the Twins. While he failed to land a spot on the Opening Day roster ahead of the 2022 campaign, it's very possible that he'll return to the big leagues relatively early in the year.
Mar 16 2022Larnach (hand) will start in left field and bat eighth Thursday in the Twins' Grapefruit League opener against the Red Sox, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After he was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul in mid-August following a prolonged rough stretch at the big-league level, Larnach didn't play after Sept. 1 last season due to a left hand contusion. Larnach's inclusion in the lineup for the Twins' exhibition opener implies that he's healthy again at big-league camp, where he'll be competing for a spot on the team's Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old boasts solid power, but trimming the 34.6 percent strikeout rate he posted as a rookie will be essential if he's to emerge as even a neutral contributor in the batting average category.
Sep 3 2021Larnach was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a left hand contusion Friday, Triple-A St. Paul broadcaster Andy Helwig reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach had recorded hits in each of his last three games at Triple-A St. Paul, but he'll now be forced to miss at least a week due to his hand injury. A timetable for his return hasn't yet been established.
Aug 16 2021Larnach was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach had lost out on some playing time recently, and he hit just .167 with three doubles, seven RBI and four runs in 25 games since the All-Star break. He'll attempt to sort things out with minor-league at-bats, while Nick Gordon will join the Twins as outfield depth.
Aug 5 2021Larnach went 1-for-2 with a double, run, RBI, two walks and a strikeout as Minnesota defeated Houston, 5-3 on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach doubled home a run and scored in the second and later walked in the fourth and eighth innings. The rookie first-rounder has three doubles in his last four games and elevated his slash line to a still mediocre .227/.323/.364 with the solid performance.
Aug 3 2021Larnach is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach gets a day off after hitting .177 with a double, two RBI and three walks in his last 10 games. Max Kepler will start in center field and bat leadoff Tuesday.
Jul 27 2021Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach returned from a one-game absence due to a hand injury to start in Monday's 6-5 win in the series opener, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on the night. He's struggled to make consistent contact throughout July, striking out in 43 percent of his plate appearances on the month while reaching base at a lowly .279 clip. Willians Astudillo will take Larnach's spot in the lineup Tuesday, and the rookie could be headed back to Triple-A St. Paul in the near future if he doesn't start to turn things around at the plate soon.
Jul 26 2021Larnach (hand) will bat sixth and play left field Monday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach sat Sunday due to swelling in his hand after he was struck by a pitch the night before. He's evidently avoided serious injury, however, so he'll have the chance to try to dig his way out of a slump which has seen him hit .122/.234/.122 with a 44.7 percent strikeout rate over his last 12 games.
Jul 25 2021Larnach is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels due to swelling in his hand, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach suffered the injury during Saturday's contest when he was hit by a pitch, and he'll sit Sunday to allow the swelling to subside. Brent Rookier will take over in left field for the Twins, while Josh Donaldson serves as the designated hitter.
Jul 20 2021Larnach is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will head to the bench for the first time since July 6 following a brutal 10-game stretch in which he went 5-for-38 with 19 strikeouts (46.3 percent rate). The Twins remain committed to giving Larnach everyday at-bats in spite of his recent struggles, but he'll get a chance to clear his head Tuesday. Gilberto Celestino replaces him in the Minnesota outfield.
Jul 6 2021Larnach is not starting Tuesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a 1-for-4 performance Monday, Larnach is hitting .286 with two homers, three walks and eight RBI in his last 12 games. Alex Kirilloff will play left field Tuesday, with Miguel Sano starting at first base.
Jul 3 2021Larnach is not starting Saturday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The young outfielder gets a day off after going 3-for-14 with eight strikeouts in his last three games. Luis Arraez will start at left field Saturday.
Jun 25 2021Larnach is not in the starting lineup Friday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach will get his first breather since June 16. Luis Arraez, Nick Gordon and Max Kepler will start in the outfield from left to right.
Jun 20 2021Larnach went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's 4-2 win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of the 24-year-old's hits were singles, and he came around to score on a Max Kepler single in the third inning. Larnach is slashing .274/.383/.442 with four home runs, 10 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven doubles across 137 plate appearances. He'll likely face competition for playing time in left field from Alex Kirilloff and Luis Arraez.
Jun 18 2021Larnach went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Friday's 7-5 extra-inning win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder went yard in the fifth inning. Larnach has five hits in his last five games, and three of them have gone for extra bases (one homer, two doubles). The rookie is slashing a respectable .259/.375/.435 with four homers, 10 RBI and 14 runs scored across 128 plate appearances. His 30.5 percent strikeout rate is a bit high, but that's to be expected for a hard hitter.
Jun 16 2021Larnach is not in the lineup Wednesday at Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach started the past nine games and will head to the bench Wednesday after going 10-for-32 with two doubles, two RBI, three runs and 12 strikeouts during that stretch. Luis Arraez will take over in left field for Minnesota.
Jun 2 2021Larnach (foot) is starting in right field and batting fifth Wednesday at Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old didn't start Tuesday's contest due to the foot injury, though he still appeared off the bench and went 1-for-2 with a double. Larnach should continue seeing regular reps in Minnesota's outfield, especially with Rob Refsnyder (concussion) joining Byron Buxton (hip) and Max Kepler (hamstring) on the injured list Wednesday.
Jun 1 2021Larnach (foot) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported Monday that Larnach was dealing with a foot issue. It's not entirely clear if Larnach's absence from Tuesday's lineup is due to the foot injury, or simply a product of the Twins facing left-hander Bruce Zimmermann. WIth that being said, it remains to be seen whether the outfielder could be an option for Rocco Baldelli off the bench.
May 31 2021Larnach isn't starting Monday against the Orioles after he fouled a ball off his foot Sunday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Rocco Baldelli is hopeful that Larnach's injury isn't serious, but he'll get at least one day to recover. Kyle Garlick is starting in left field and batting eighth Monday.
May 24 2021Larnach went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Monday's 8-3 win over Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach tied things up at 1-1 with his solo shot in the third inning off John Means. He's up to two homers and four RBI through 15 games to start his MLB career. The 24-year-old snapped a 3-for-23 skid with his second multi-hit performance.
May 20 2021Larnach went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk as Minnesota beat Los Angeles 6-3 in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach pulled a Jose Suarez offering to right field in the seventh inning for his first career home run that also served as a vital insurance run for the Twins. The blast also served as his first RBI. The rookie is now slashing a solid .250/.351/.438.
May 16 2021Larnach went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's 7-6 loss to Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach collected three singles and came around to score once on a second-inning homer by Max Kepler. It was the first multi-hit performance in the rookie outfielder's young MLB career. He's hitting .250 with a pair of doubles through six games.
May 12 2021Larnach is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With lefty Dallas Keuchel on the hill for Chicago, Larnach and fellow lefty hitting outfielder Jake Cave will both head the bench, allowing the right-handed Kyle Garlick to pick up a starting nod in the corner outfield. With Luis Arraez returning from the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday to take over as the Twins' primary left fielder, one of Larnach or Cave will likely occupy the strong side of a platoon with Garlick in right field moving forward. It's unclear whether manager Rocco Baldelli favors Larnach or Cave for those duties at this point.
May 8 2021Larnach is starting Saturday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, and he'll make his major-league debut in left field. With Alex Kirilloff (wrist) sidelined, Larnach should have the chance to carve out regular playing time in his absence since he's one of the Twins' top prospects.
May 7 2021Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach was added to the major league roster after Byron Buxton went on the IL with a significant hip strain. With the Twins looking for offense in the outfield and Alex Kirilloff (wrist) also sidelined, Larnach could be set for regular playing time since he's one of Minnesota's top prospects. Larnach was 3-for-13 with two home runs in his first three games at Triple-A. He picked up where he left off in 2019, when he split time between High-A Fort Myers and Double-A Pensacola and slashed .309/.384/.458 over 127 games.
Feb 15 2021The Twins announced Monday that Larnach will receive an invitation to big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Larnach, Royce Lewis, Aaron Sabato and Matt Canterino are among the Twins' higher-rated prospects who will get a look with the big club this spring. The 23-year-old outfielder is unlikely to break camp with Minnesota, but he should have the opportunity to make his MLB debut later this summer if he's able to pick up where he left off in his last minor-league season in 2019. He split time between High-A Fort Myers and Double-A Pensacola that season, slashing .309/.384/.458 over 127 games.
Jun 4 2018The Twins have selected Larnach with the 20th overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft.Few college hitters have improved their stock this season as much as Larnach. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound corner outfielder always looked the part of a power hitter, but he hit just three home runs in 88 games as a freshman and sophomore, so it wasn't clear that the power was ever going to come. Fast forward to his junior year at Oregon State, and Larnach is hitting .324/.447/.637 with 17 home runs and a 50:40 K:BB through 204 at-bats as a junior for the Beavers. He has a pretty swing from the left side that lends itself to hitting for power to all fields. There is a chance he could develop a plus hit tool to go with plus power, which would make him one of the best fantasy assets from this class. He won't be a threat on the bases, but could someday hit in the middle of a big-league lineup. As a likely left fielder with an advanced offensive skill set, he could be one of the first position players in this class to reach the majors.
