Jun 6 2024The Diamondbacks reinstated Frias (shoulder) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Reno. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias moved his rehab assignment from rookie ball to Triple-A on Tuesday, and he will officially remain with the Aces now that he's made a full recovery from the shoulder inflammation that sent him onto the IL in April. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed seven earned runs in 6.1 innings during his time in the majors before getting injured, and he would likely need to show major improvement at Reno before the D-backs consider bringing him back into their bullpen.
Jun 4 2024The Diamondbacks transferred Frias' (shoulder) rehab assignment to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias has been on Arizona's injured list since April 19 with right shoulder inflammation but finally looks to be inching toward a return to the active roster. He began his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the weekend, tossing a scoreless inning in his lone outing. He'll likely make a handful of relief appearances for Reno before rejoining the big-league bullpen.
Apr 29 2024Frias (shoulder) will begin a throwing program this week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with right shoulder inflammation but appears to be progressing. He had been optioned before that was rescinded and he was placed on the injured list, so the righty could be headed to Triple-A Reno rather than the majors once he's healthy.
Apr 19 2024The Diamondbacks rescinded the option of Frias to Triple-A Reno on Friday and placed him on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias was initially optioned to Triple-A after allowing three earned runs without recording an out Tuesday, but a shoulder injury will put a hold on his demotion. Logan Allen and Justin Martinez were added to the big-league roster Wednesday to provide extra bullpen depth.
Apr 17 2024Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias was tagged for three runs without recording an out in Tuesday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. He's being sent out in favor of some fresh bullpen arms.
Sep 1 2023The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As rosters expand to 28 players Friday, Frias will provide the Diamondbacks with an additional bullpen arm. However, the 25-year-old righty hasn't had much success in the majors with a 5.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP through 17.1 innings and will likely be limited to low-leverage situations.
Aug 17 2023Arizona optioned Frias to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias has registered a 5.71 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 16:13 K:BB in 17.1 innings this season at the major-league level. Justin Martinez will take his place in the Diamondbacks' bullpen ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Padres.
Jul 18 2023Arizona recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This might be a brief stay in the majors for Frias as Andrew Chafin (paternity) spends a few days away from the club. Frias, 25, has allowed eight earned runs in 6.2 major-league innings this year with the Diamondbacks.
May 27 2023Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias has struggled to a 10.80 ERA across a pair of brief stints in the big leagues this season, striking out eight while walking seven in 6.2 innings. Drey Jameson was recalled to take his place on the roster.
May 17 2023Arizona recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias has struggled mightily thus far at the major-league level, holding a 10.23 ERA with 23 walks over 23 innings covering 20 appearances from 2021 through 2023. He's had a dominant season at Reno, however, and will give Arizona a fresh bullpen arm.
Sep 28 2022Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias spent a week and a half in the Diamondbacks' bullpen but will head back to the minors after giving up four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two in 1.2 innings over his last two appearances. Sean Poppen was called up Wednesday to take Frias' place in the bullpen.
Sep 18 2022Frias was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was demoted to Reno in early September but will rejoin the big-league club with Keynan Middleton (toe) headed to the injured list. Frias allowed seven earned runs over 5.2 innings during his previous stint in the majors, though he didn't allow any runs in five of his six outings.
Sep 5 2022The Diamondbacks optioned Frias to Triple-A Reno on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias' move to Triple-A clears a spot on the 28-man active roster for right-hander Ryne Nelson, who was called up from Reno in advance of his scheduled start Monday agains the Padres. Following his promotion from Triple-A on Aug. 21, Frias made six appearances out of the bullpen and allowed seven earned runs on six hits and two walks across 5.2 innings.
Aug 21 2022The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias will give Arizona some much-needed length out of the bullpen in the series finale after five relievers were needed to cover the final 3.2 innings of Saturday's 16-7 loss to St. Louis. One of those relievers, Edwin Uceta, was optioned to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Frias, who is expected to work in a low-leverage role for the duration of his stay in Arizona.

Tyler Holton was promoted from Reno in a corresponding move.
May 18 2022The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll take the spot in the bullpen that previously belonged to Edwin Uceta, who was optioned to Reno after throwing three innings in long relief in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Dodgers. Frias, who most recently tossed two innings Sunday for Reno, will give the Diamondbacks a fresh relief arm for Wednesday's series finale.
May 7 2022Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias' stay on the big-league roster lasted just over a week. He made two relief appearances, giving up five runs in 2.1 innings while striking out two and walking four. He'll return to the minors as J.B. Wendelken returns from the COVID-19 injured list.
Apr 30 2022Frias allowed one run on one hit and two walks over 1.2 innings in Friday's 6-2 win over St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias was called up from Triple-A Reno after Arizona was short a couple of relievers that were added to the COVID-19-related injury list. He had been starting for the Aces, so his length came in handy Friday when starter Madison Bumgarner was pulled after five innings.
Mar 31 2022The Diamondbacks optioned Frias to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was one of five players sent out from big-league camp in the Diamondbacks' latest round of roster cuts in advance of Opening Day. The 23-year-old right-hander had been vying for a spot in Arizona's bullpen to begin 2022 after he made three appearances for the big club last season following a Sept. 18 call-up from Reno.
Sep 18 2021Frias was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias was promoted from Double-A Amarillo to Triple-A Reno on Aug. 16. Since, he's posted a 5.82 ERA and 1.75 WHIP while walking 16 hitters across 21.1 frames and five starts with Reno. While it's unclear when Frias will first take a major-league mound, it's likely that he'll draw a start in the coming days.
Aug 16 2021The Diamondbacks promoted Frias from Double-A Amarillo to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Monday was moving day for several of Arizona's more highly regarded prospects, as outfielder Alek Thomas will move up to Reno with Frias, while outfielder Eduardo Diaz and starter Brandon Pfaadt were promoted to Amarillo from High-A Hillsboro. Over his 16 starts with Amarillo this season, Frias turned in a 5.26 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 91:25 K:BB across 78.2 innings.
Feb 26 2021Frias (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old was unable to report to spring training at the start of camp after testing positive for the virus, but he's been cleared to join the team. Frias didn't end up missing significant time, so he shouldn't have any issues being ready for the start of the regular season.
Feb 22 2021The Diamondbacks placed Frias on the COVID-19 injured list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias didn't report to the Diamondbacks' facility last week for the start of spring training while he continues to recover from COVID-19. With Arizona making his move to the IL official Monday, the transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for newly-signed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera.
Nov 20 2020Frias' contract was purchased by the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: One of Arizona's most talented pitching prospects, Frias has a chance to develop into a high-strikeout starter or a late-inning reliever, depending on the development of his third pitch and his command. He has never pitched above Low-A but spent the summer at the alternate training site, likely setting up an assignment to High-A or Double-A in 2021.
Jun 29 2020Frias will be a part of the Diamondbacks' 60-man summer camp. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Frias is not on the 40-man roster and has yet to make his MLB debut, but he's regarded as one of Arizona's better pitching prospects, sporting a mid-90s fastball and plus-curveball. The right-hander excelled in short season Single-A ball in 2019, posting a 1.99 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 10 starts. The going got a little tougher for the 22-year-old upon a promotion to full season ball, as he gave up 13 earned runs in 26.2 innings. There remain questions about Frias' command and some secondary pitches, but he'll at least see an opportunity to potentially contribute in 2020.
