May 4 2023Acevedo was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is part of a line change in the Oakland bullpen, with Rico Garcia, Austin Pruitt and Spencer Patton all getting the call from Triple-A Las Vegas. Acevedo had struggled to a 10.61 ERA and 1.93 WHIP through 9.1 innings of relief this season for the A's.
Apr 28 2023Acevedo (back), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, allowed an earned run on two hits over 1.2 innings in a loss to the Angels on Thursday. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo enjoyed a successful return from the IL overall, as manager Mark Kotsay offered him anything but a soft landing when he called on the right-hander to handle a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. Acevedo allowed just one inherited runner to score on a fielder's choice and then surrendered an Anthony Rendon RBI double in the sixth, but he also recorded swinging strikeouts of Mike Trout and Hunter Renfroe during the frame. Given he handled a 25-pitch workload relatively effectively, it would seem Acevedo is ready to jump back into his usual high-volume role.
Apr 27 2023Acevedo was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Athletics on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo missed a couple weeks of action with a lower-back strain. He struggled before getting injured and also during his rehab assignment, so the A's might ease him back into high-leverage spots.
Mar 12 2023Acevedo has yet to give up a run over 4.2 innings in four Cactus League appearances, allowing two hits and three walks while recording five strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander has been a reliable relief option over his first two big-league seasons, posting a 4-4 record, 3.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, four saves and 21 holds across 78.2 innings (80 appearances). Acevedo currently profiles as the top setup option behind projected closer Dany Jimenez, and with the exception of some modest control issues thus far this spring, his Cactus League body of work seems to support the notion he's up for the task.
Oct 4 2022Acevedo allowed an unearned run on two hits over one inning to take a blown save in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo gave up an RBI single to Matt Duffy in the ninth inning that tied the game at 1-1. This was Acevedo's first blown save since taking over the Athletics' closer job in mid-September. The 28-year-old owns a 3.33 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 58:17 K:BB through 67.2 innings this year while adding four saves, four blown saves and 21 holds through 70 appearances.
Sep 30 2022Acevedo (3-4) took the loss Friday versus the Mariners. He allowed a solo home run and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo tried to keep the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Cal Raleigh knocked a pinch hit, walkoff home run to send the Athletics to the loss. Acevedo became the Athletics' primary closer earlier in September, but he saw a 5.2-inning scoreless streak end Friday. He has a 3.43 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 57:16 K:BB through 65.2 innings while adding four saves and 21 holds this year.
Sep 22 2022Acevedo picked up the save in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners. He allowed zero runs on one hit and zero walks while striking out one over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo allowed an infield single to Julio Rodriguez to lead off the ninth but quickly escaped any damage thanks to a double-play ball in the following at-bat. The 6-foot-7 reliever then struck out Mitch Haniger swinging to end the game and record his fourth save of the season. That makes six straight scoreless appearances for Acevedo, who has not allowed a run since Sept 2. Over that 5.1-inning stretch, he's registered six strikeouts to no walks while allowing four hits.
Sep 20 2022Acevedo saved Tuesday's 4-1 win against the Mariners, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo faced the heart of Seattle's lineup in the ninth inning and retired the side in order on 10 pitches to notch his third consecutive appearance with a save. Manager Mark Kotsay appears to be going with the hot-hand approach at the back end of his bullpen with Acevedo the current favorite thanks to five straight scoreless appearances. The 28-year-old possesses a 3.39 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 54 strikeouts in 63.2 innings across 65 appearances.
Sep 18 2022Acevedo recorded his second save in a win over the Astros on Saturday, allowing one hit over a scoreless ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A.J. Puk worked the eighth inning and garnered his 18th hold despite an uneven performance, leaving Acevedo to work the final frame. The right-hander fired in all 11 pitches for strikes, settling down after allowing a leadoff single to Trey Mancini to induce a fielder's choice from Chas McCormick and a game-ending double play from Christian Vazquez. Acevedo has now generated four straight scoreless appearance after a stumble against the Orioles on Sept. 2, and both of his saves have come in the last two trips to the mound.
Sep 15 2022Acevedo earned a save against the Rangers on Wednesday, retiring the only batter he faced via strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A two-run top of the ninth inning gave Oakland a lead, and manager Mark Kotsay turned to southpaw Sam Moll for the bottom of the frame. Moll notched two outs before walking Adolis Garcia, and Acevedo was brought in to record the final out. He threw a wild pitch to allow Garcia to reach second but finished off the contest with a strikeout for his first career save. A.J. Puk -- who has been getting most of the save opportunities of late -- may not have been available after tossing two innings Tuesday, so it's probably premature to assume that Acevedo has moved into the lead ninth-inning role despite the successful outing Wednesday.
Sep 3 2022Acevedo (3-3) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks over one-third of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the bottom of the eighth, the right-hander uncharacteristically faltered. Acevedo allowed three of the first four men he faced to reach -- one via intentional walk -- before issuing a bases-loaded free pass to Adley Rutschman and conceding a two-run single to Jorge Mateo. It was Acevedo's second appearance with three runs allowed since Aug. 23, but this type of hiccup is still mostly rare for the 28-year-old -- he's otherwise generated scoreless efforts in 10 of his other 11 outings since the beginning of August.
Aug 22 2022Acevedo recorded his 19th hold in a win over the Mariners on Sunday, firing a scoreless sixth inning during which he recorded a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander mustered his fourth straight scoreless appearance and seventh in his last eight trips to the mound overall. Acevedo's ERA has plummeted from 3.26 back down to 2.93 over the latter stretch, which, when combined with his three victories and 19 holds, keeps him very viable in both AL-only and mixed leagues with formats that value relievers.
Jul 24 2022Acevedo (3-2) secured the win in a victory over the Rangers on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits over 1.1 innings. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo was called on for the second straight day in a tight game, and the veteran right-hander was able to deliver once again. While he wasn't anywhere near as sharp as during a Friday outing during which he was just one pitch away from an immaculate inning, Acevedo still was able to induce an inning-ending double play from Charlie Culberson with the bases loaded when he entered the game in the sixth inning. Acevedo did subsequently allow a seventh-inning RBI double to Marcus Semien, but that was the first time he'd been scored upon since July 6.
Jul 22 2022Acevedo (2-2) recorded the win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Tigers on Thursday, firing a perfect sixth inning during which he recorded two strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo nearly walked away with an impeccable inning, as he needed just one pitch over the minimum nine to get his three outs and pounded eight of his offerings in for strikes. The razor-sharp showing was the latest in an extended stretch of strong pitching for Acevedo, who now boasts a 2-1 mark, 0.63 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 across the 14.1 innings covering his last 14 appearances.
Jul 10 2022Acevedo recorded his 12th hold in a win over the Astros on Saturday, firing a scoreless seventh inning during which he recorded a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander fired all eight pitches he threw in his ultra-efficient frame for strikes, underscoring how locked in he was. Acevedo has now generated scoreless efforts in nine of his last 10 trips to the mound, posting a 1-1 record, six holds, an 0.87 ERA and an 0.68 WHIP across that sample of 10.1 innings.
Jul 7 2022Acevedo (1-2) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing an earned run on a solo home run while also recording a strikeout over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo threw 10 of his 15 pitches for strikes, but he failed to preserve a 1-1 tie when he allowed a 357-foot solo homer to Bo Bichette during his one frame. The blast turned out to be the game-winning hit and was the first run Acevedo had given up since June 15, a span of nine appearances.
Jun 27 2022Acevedo (1-1) earned the win Sunday against the Royals, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out one and walking none over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo earned the win in relief after entering in the bottom of the seventh and throwing 10 of 14 pitches for strikes. He entered a one-run game and was able to protect the lead, inducing two groundouts and striking a batter out. It was Acevedo's first win of the season. The righty has yet to record a save this season.
Jun 20 2022Acevedo recorded his eighth hold in a win over the Royals on Sunday, recording three strikeouts over 1.1 scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo's line and the fact he got 11 of his 17 pitches into the strike zone underscore how sharp he was in putting together his third scoreless effort in the last four appearances. The right-hander has mostly been very effective in a high-volume role that's already seen him log 30.2 innings across 31 appearances while posting a 3.82 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.
Jun 4 2022Acevedo allowed two earned runs on a walk and a hit batsman over one-third of an inning in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with keeping a two-run deficit from getting any bigger when he entered in the ninth inning, Acevedo got into immediate trouble by walking Bobby Dalbec and plunking Kevin Plawecki. He subsequently induced a lineout from Enrique Hernandez before exiting, but he was eventually charged with two runs when Sam Moll gave up hits that allowed both runners to cross the plate. The pair of runs represent the first Acevedo has been charged with since May 16, snapping a string of six shutout appearances.
May 25 2022Acevedo notched his sixth hold in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday, firing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning while issuing a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo fired eight of his 13 pitches for strikes en route to his third straight scoreless appearance. The right-hander has essentially picked up where he left off in a solid 10-appearance rookie stint in 2021 when he produced a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, as he how carries 3.32 and 1.06 figures in those respective categories across 21 appearances this season.
May 11 2022Acevedo recorded his fifth hold during a win over the Tigers in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday, firing a scoreless eighth inning during which he allowed one hit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo got through his one frame on 14 pitches despite allowing a baserunner, getting 10 of those offerings into the strike zone. The 27-year-old has now strung together five consecutive scoreless appearances after giving up two earned runs over an inning against the Guardians back on April 29.
May 3 2022Acevedo fired two perfect innings in a loss to the Rays on Monday, recording two strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander had just given up a pair of earned runs on three hits over an inning in his most recent appearance Friday against the Guardians, so Monday's impressive multi-inning outing was a welcome sight. Acevedo has been a largely reliable asset for manager Mark Kotsay this season, turning in scoreless efforts in eight of his 11 trips to the mound.
Apr 30 2022Acevedo (0-1) was charged with the loss and his second blown save in a loss to the Guardians on Friday, allowing two earned runs on three hits over one inning while also recording a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander had put together four straight scoreless appearances before Friday's stumble, which consisted of Acevedo surrendering a two-run double and two-run home run to Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor, respectively. Acevedo's ERA ballooned to 5.59 with the poor outing, and he's now allowed multiple earned runs in two of his 10 appearances.
Apr 22 2022Acevedo recorded his third hold in a win over the Orioles on Thursday, firing a perfect seventh inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo got through his unblemished frame on 13 pitches, eight which he threw for strikes. The 27-year-old right-hander has now generated five scoreless appearances in his last six trips to the mound, and his early heavy workload is certainly a welcome sight for fantasy managers.
Apr 19 2022Acevedo fired a scoreless seventh inning in a win over the Orioles on Monday, allowing two hits while recording a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo got 11 of his 16 pitches into the strike zone and successfully navigated a pair of singles by Trey Mancini and Ramon Urias by inducing an inning-ending double-play flyout from Austin Hays. The towering right-hander had pitched to even more contact in his most recent outing, giving up three earned runs on five hits over two-thirds of an innings to the Blue Jays, but he'd been stellar over his first four appearances with eight strikeouts across 4.1 innings.
Apr 11 2022Acevedo was credited with his first hold of the season in Sunday's win over the Phillies, recording two strikeouts and issuing a walk over a scoreless seventh inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo needed 20 pitches to get through his one frame thanks in part to Rhys Hoskins drawing a walk in a six-pitch plate appearance, but the right-hander was otherwise effective and recorded a swinging strikeout of Nick Castellanos during his stint on the mound. Acevedo has already rang up four strikeouts across two innings in his first two appearances, an encouraging start after submitting a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his first 10 big-league outings a season ago.
Apr 5 2022Acevedo posted a 5.79 ERA and 2:3 K:BB across 4.2 innings over four Cactus League appearances (one start). ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The towering right-hander's one start qualified as such in name only, as Acevedo only logged 1.2 innings. He otherwise worked a frame apiece in his three other trips to the mound in preparation for what Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports could be a fluid role behind closer Lou Trivino to open the season. In his first taste of big-league action last season, Acevedo produced a solid 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 11 innings over 10 appearances, and although he generated a middling 20.5 percent strikeout rate, he fashioned a spotless 100% LOB rate as well.
Sep 21 2021Acevedo, who fired two scoreless innings during which he allowed a walk and recorded two strikeouts in a loss to the Mariners on Monday, has furnished two scoreless appearances overall since having his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas last Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old had toiled in the minors since 2014 before getting his first promotion earlier this season, and Acevedo has been particularly impressive in this, his second big-league stint overall. The right-hander fired a perfect frame against the Royals on the very day he was called up as well, and his previous starting experience in the minors should enable him to handler lower-leverage multi-inning assignments like Monday's if necessary over the final days of the regular season.
Sep 14 2021Acevedo's contract was selected by Oakland on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acevedo made three appearances for Oakland earlier in the season, allowing three runs on five hits in three innings of work. He was designated for assignment by the team at the end of July but remained in the organization. He'll likely serve a low-leverage role during his time with the big-league club.
Jul 3 2021The Athletics optioned Acevedo to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty has yielded a home run in each of his last two appearances, and three runs total between those two innings of work. Acevedo may find himself with the big-league club again at some point this season, as they don't have an especially deep bullpen and his struggles were in an extremely small sample size.
Jun 22 2021Acevedo, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, fired a scoreless eighth inning during which he allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout in a loss to the Rangers on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old's major-league debut went very well, as he needed a relatively efficient 14 pitches to get his three outs. Acevedo was enjoying an impressive season with the Aviators in the hitter-friendly environment of the Pacific Coast League, where he'd posted a 2.20 ERA and 0.81 WHIP across 16.1 innings. He'll likely remain in lower-leverage scenarios for the time being.
Jun 21 2021Acevedo's contract was selected by the Athletics on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old will be promoted to the big leagues for the first time in his career after left-hander Jesus Luzardo was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Acevedo made 15 relief appearances with the Triple-A club to begin the year and posted a 2.20 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 16.1 innings.
Jul 21 2018Acevedo was recalled from Double-A Trenton on Saturday.Acevedo was sporting a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with a 40:18 K:BB across 50.2 innings with the Thunder this season. Though he started eight of those 11 appearances, he's expected to serve out of the Yankees bullpen, as manager Aaron Boone stated that Luis Cessa would be called up to take Domingo German's spot in the rotation after the latter was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Friday's loss to the Mets, per Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. Look for Acevedo to be utilized out of low-leverage situations during his first cup of coffee in the majors.
Jul 21 2018Acevedo was optioned to Double-A Trenton following Saturday's win over the Mets.Acevedo was promoted from Double-A prior to Saturday's game but did not enter the contest, making his first stint in the majors an uneventful one. The 24-year-old should return to his starting role with Trenton, where he has a 2.84 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 50.2 innings this season.
