Dec 22 2023Seabold signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization on Friday, Jee-ho Yoo of South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold will have an opportunity to make an additional $100,000 in incentives, which would bring his earnings to an even $1 million. It's a nice little raise and opportunity for the soon-to-be 28-year-old after he was released by the Rockies earlier this month following a 7.52 ERA in 2023.
Dec 6 2023Seabold was released by the Rockies on Wednesday, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rockies needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster if they wanted to make a pick during Wednesday's Rule 5 Draft, and they've done just that. Seabold posted a ghastly 7.52 ERA over 27 appearances (13 starts) for Colorado in 2023. He'll turn 28 next month.
Oct 1 2023Seabold allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over four innings in Sunday's win against the Twins. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision, ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold coughed up two runs in the second inning before turning in three scoreless frames. He entered the contest after Brent Suter threw one inning as the opener. Seabold has yielded 13 runs over 9.2 MLB innings since the start of August and ended his 2023 campaign with a 7.52 ERA across 87.1 frames.
Sep 28 2023The Rockies recalled Seabold from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold returns as a fresh bullpen arm for the Rockies leading into their final four games of the 2023 campaign. The 27-year-old right-hander carries an ugly 7.65 ERA through 82.1 major-league innings this season.
Aug 9 2023The Rockies optioned Seabold to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Colorado will swap Seabold off the 26-man active roster in favor of a fresh arm in right-hander Karl Kauffmann, who should serve as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen. Seabold was touched up for seven earned runs on eight hits and one walk over two innings of mop-up duty in his most recent appearance in Monday's 12-1 loss to the Brewers. After the ugly outing, Seabold is now sitting on a 7.65 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 82.1 innings on the season.
Jul 20 2023Seabold has been demoted to a bullpen role, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was lit up for six earned runs over just 2.1 innings in his last turn through the Rockies' rotation July 15 against the Yankees, ballooning his season ERA to 7.18. Peter Lambert is coming up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Friday's series opener in Miami.
Jul 15 2023Seabold (1-7) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one over 2.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold has completely fallen apart with 30 runs allowed over his last 19 innings. All of them have been earned, and yielding 10 home runs in that span certainly isn't helping his cause, though half of those long balls have come in his two road starts in that span. Seabold now has a 7.18 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 54:24 K:BB through 72.2 innings on the year. Despite the crooked numbers, the Rockies are currently lacking in pitching depth, so he can be tentatively projected to make a road start in Miami next week.
Jul 9 2023Seabold (1-6) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk over 3.2 innings as the Rockies were downed 5-3 by the Giants. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander needed 73 pitches (47 strikes) to record just 11 outs as he failed to complete four innings for the second time in his last four outings. Seabold is proving to be overmatched as a rotation option. losing four straight starts and posting a 12.96 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over that stretch, but Colorado doesn't have any clear alternatives to replace him after the All-Star break.
Jul 2 2023Seabold (1-5) allowed eight runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold gave up a grand slam to Javier Baez in the first inning, and additional homers to Kerry Carpenter and Jake Rogers accounted for the rest of the damage. The long ball has been a problem for Seabold lately -- he's given up a combined eight homers over his last 13 innings while losing three straight starts. He's now at a 6.62 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 50:21 K:BB through 66.2 innings over 18 appearances (11 starts). The right-hander is projected for a road start in San Francisco in his next outing.
Jun 27 2023Seabold (1-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over five innings against the Dodgers. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being scratched from his last start with a right arm issue, Seabold turned in a solid outing against one of MLB's top offenses. Though Seabold owns a 6.19 ERA as a starter this season, he registered a 4.50 ERA over his first eight starts (40 innings) before giving up a combined 13 runs across his last two appearances. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively lined up to come against the Giants at Oracle Park.
Jun 26 2023Seabold (arm) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Dodgers at Coors Field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Seabold missed his last turn through the rotation due to an unspecified right arm issue, the Rockies determined the injury wasn't significant enough to require a trip to the IL. Seabold apparently made it out of his weekend throwing session no worse for the wear, so he'll get the green light to make his 10th start of the season Tuesday. Seabold takes a 1-3 record, 5.88 ERA and 1.48 WHIP into the outing.
Jun 21 2023Seabold has been scratched from his expected start Wednesday against the Reds due to an apparent arm injury, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Heading into the week, Seabold was lined up to take the hill for Friday's series opener with the Angels, but the Rockies ended up moving him up to Wednesday when it became clear that Kyle Freeland would need two extra days to recover from a viral illness. With Seabold having now picked up the arm injury at some point during his most recent start last week or during a recent bullpen session, the Rockies will now turn to reliever Jake Bird to serve as their opening pitcher Wednesday in what amounts to a bullpen day. The Rockies haven't shed light on the severity of Seabold's injury, making it unclear if he'll be available at any point during this weekend's series with the Angels or if his turn in the rotation will be skipped over entirely.
Jun 17 2023Seabold (1-3) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing nine runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out one batter over three innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold had been on a roll coming into the contest, posting a 2.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over his previous three starts. That momentum came to a grinding halt Saturday, as the right-hander yielded a season-high nine runs and nine hits while retiring just nine batters. Seabold's biggest issue was the long ball -- he served up a campaign-high four homers after allowing zero in his previous three starts. His ERA jumped from 4.70 to 5.88 as a result of the poor outing.
Jun 12 2023Seabold allowed one run on six hits and a walk over six innings in Monday's win over Boston. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold fired five shutout frames before the Red Sox finally broke through in the sixth inning. He completed six innings for the first time in his MLB career in his last start and has now done it twice in a row. Over his last three outings, Seabold has compiled a 15:5 K:BB while allowing just four earned runs over 17.1 innings. He's dropped his season ERA from 5.94 to 4.70 during that span. Seabold is projected to start in Atlanta this weekend.
Jun 7 2023Seabold allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four over six-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold left in line for the win, but poor outings from relievers Brent Suter and Justin Lawrence squandered the Rockies' lead. This was Seabold's first career quality start, and it certainly seems like he's growing into a starter role after beginning the year in the bullpen. The right-hander has given up three runs, five hits and four walks while striking out nine over his last 11.1 innings, lowering his ERA to 5.10 and his WHIP to 1.41 with a 36:17 K:BB through 47.2 innings this season. He's lined up for a road start versus his former team, the Red Sox, next week.
Jun 1 2023Seabold did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing a run on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was certainly Sebold's best outing of the season, as he pitched to a 6.35 in his previous five starts. However, Colorado's bullpen couldn't maintain the lead as Arizona eventually came away with a 5-4 victory, leaving Seabold with a no-decision. The 27-year-old right-hander is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 41.2 innings this season. While the numbers aren't great, Seabold will likely remain in the Rockies' rotation while Antonio Senzatela (elbow), German Marquez (elbow) and Ryan Feltner (elbow) are all sidelined.
May 26 2023Seabold (1-2) took the loss Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Mets. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold continues his struggles, as he's now allowed 12 earned runs over his last 12.2 innings pitched. The right-hander also hasn't tossed more than five innings in a start all year, and shouldn't be trusted in lineups until he significantly improves his play. The 27-year-old is tentatively slated to face Arizona at home in his next start.
May 21 2023Seabold (1-1) allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus hte Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers did their damage against Seabold in the second inning, which included home runs from Josh Jung and Corey Seager. With 15 runs allowed (13 earned) over 18 innings across his four starts this season, Seabold's not making a great case to stick in the rotation. He's at a 5.97 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB over 31.2 innings across 11 appearances overall. With the Rockies' rotation still banged up, Seabold can be tentatively projected for a home start versus the Mets next week.
May 15 2023Seabold allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks over 4.1 innings during Monday's win over the Reds. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was shaky all game, allowing at least one run in four separate innings. The Reds only collected three extra-base hits against him, including back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning by Spencer Steer and Tyler Stephenson. Seabold saw his ERA creep up to 5.14 with a 20:9 K:BB through 28 frames. He's currently lined up for a road start against the Rangers this weekend.
May 9 2023Seabold (1-0) earned the win Tuesday, allowing a run on three hits and three walks over five innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was solid against the Pirates, allowing just a run on three hits to pick up his first win in his second start this season. The 27-year-old Seabold lowered his ERA to 4.56 with a 1.44 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 23.2 innings. With Noah Davis (elbow) eligible to come off the IL on Monday, the Rockies may elect to move Seabold back to the bullpen.
May 8 2023Seabold is listed as the Rockies' probable starting pitcher for Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold fell below the baseline for a quality start his last time out Thursday against the Brewers (three earned runs allowed over five innings), but it's enough for the 26-year-old right-hander to receive another turn through the depleted Colorado rotation. Even though he'll move from the hitter-friendly Coors Field to the more forgiving confines of PNC Park for his second start of the season, Seabold still won't make for a reliable streaming option.
May 4 2023Seabold allowed three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out one batter over five innings against Milwaukee on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold made his first start of the campaign Thursday after serving in middle relief during the early part of the season. The right-hander served up three long balls, but each was of the solo variety, allowing him to escape with just three runs charged to his ledger. Seabold was far from impressive in the outing, striking out just one batter and notching a modest seven whiffs. He'll likely remain in the rotation with Noah Davis (elbow) and German Marquez (elbow) on the injured list, but Seabold's body of major-league work to his point doesn't portend future success.
May 2 2023Seabold will start for the Rockies on Thursday against the Brewers, Suzie Hunter of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Antonio Senzatela (knee) will then come off the injured list to handle Friday's series opener at the Mets. Seabold has worked exclusively in relief so far this season with Colorado and holds a 5.27 ERA through 13.2 innings. He's not a recommended fantasy streamer, even if this proves to be more than just a spot start.
Apr 28 2023The Rockies recalled Seabold from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With German Marquez (elbow) landing on the 15-day injured list Friday, Seabold will take Marquez's spot on the Rockies' pitching staff. Seabold has already made six appearances for Colorado this season, logging a 5.23 ERA and 1.55 WHIP alongside a 10:3 K:BB ratio through 10.1 innings. He's a likely candidate to replace Marquez in the rotation, otherwise he could work in a multi-inning relief role.
Mar 10 2023Seabold has allowed one earned run across seven innings while striking out seven and walking none during three Cactus League appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold hasn't started a game, but he has worked multiple innings in each of his three appearances during the exhibition season. The Rockies haven't made their plans for Seabold clear at this point, though it appears he'll occupy a multi-inning role regardless of whether it comes as a starter or reliever. Colorado acquired him from the Red Sox this offseason, after he posted an 11.29 ERA and 2.35 WHIP across 18.1 innings with Boston in 2022.
Jan 17 2023Seabold was traded from the Red Sox to the Rockies on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold made five starts for Boston last season, struggling to a 11.29 ERA and 2.35 WHIP. A .476 BABIP undoubtedly inflated his numbers, but he also gave up five homers in 18.1 innings, something his 29.4 percent groundball rate indicates could be a persistent problem. While there may be fewer obstacles between him and a rotation role in his new home, a move to the league's most hitter-friendly park hardly enhances the righty's fantasy appeal.
Jan 12 2023Seabold was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Corey Kluber. Seabold has been blasted for a 10.55 ERA over six starts at the major-league level from 2021-22, but he has a 3.39 ERA with 141 strikeouts across 140.2 innings at Triple-A during that span. There figures to be some interest in the righty on waivers.
Sep 28 2022Seabold was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold has thrown 18.1 innings over five starts for Boston this season, and he's put up a less-than-spectacular 11.29 ERA and 2.35 WHIP in the process. Those numbers drop to a much more respectable 3.32 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in Triple-A, but he has yet to put things together in the majors. His departure opens a spot the roster which will almost certainly be filled by Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) when he comes off the injured list.
Sep 26 2022Seabold allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over two innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold's outing got off to an ominous start when Cedric Mullins opened the contest with a solo home run against him, and the rookie right-hander gave up four more runs in the second inning, though one was unearned. It was perhaps merciful, then, that a nearly two-hour rain delay interrupted the contest and resulted in Seabold's removal. With the poor outing, Seabold's ERA shot up to 11.29 on the season, and he's given up four or more earned runs in four of his five starts while completing five innings only once.
Sep 24 2022Seabold is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Orioles at Fenway Park. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Boston isn't expected to return rehabbing starter Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list until at least Thursday, so Seabold will be in store for a second straight turn through the rotation. After getting called up from Triple-A Worcester last week to serve as Boston's No. 5 starter, Seabold dropped to 0-3 after giving up four earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings.
Sep 21 2022Seabold (0-3) allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold re-entered the rotation with Kutter Crawford (shoulder) sidelined. Despite handing out only one free pass, Seabold struggled with his command as he hit a batter and threw four wild pitches. Positively, he didn't allow any extra-base hits, so most of the damage was self-inflicted. Seabold is likely to stick in the Boston rotation for the rest of the regular season, though he now owns a 10.47 ERA across a very small 16.1 inning sample in the majors for the season.
Sep 20 2022Seabold was recalled from Triple-A Worcester and will start Wednesday's game in Cincinnati, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Kutter Crawford (shoulder) shut down for the season, Seabold could make two or three starts before the end of the season, depending the health of the other starters and whether they go with a five- or six-man rotation. Seabold, 26, logged a 3.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 86.2 innings at Triple-A.
Jul 26 2022Seabold (forearm) was activated from the 15-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold landed on the shelf July 8 with a strained forearm, and he's been cleared for game action after recently being deemed ready to face live hitters. The 26-year-old has started three games for the Red Sox this year and has given up 15 earned runs with a 13:5 K:BB over 11.1 innings, and he'll make his way back to Worcester now that he's healthy.
Jul 25 2022Seabold (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session at Fenway Park on Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Michael Wacha (shoulder) is also scheduled to face hitters Monday, as both injured pitchers look to be at the same spot in their respective rehab programs. Boston will have a spot available in the rotation for Wacha once he's ready to return from the 15-day injured list, but Seabold is more likely to be optioned to Triple-A Worcester once he's reinstated. Boston currently has only four healthy starting pitchers on the active roster, but Josh Winckowski (illness) looks on pace to return from the COVID-19 IL on Tuesday, while Wacha and/or Rich Hill (knee) could both be activated before or at a similar time as Seabold.
Jul 15 2022Seabold's forearm strain isn't considered serious, and he's already resumed playing catch, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was pulled from his start last Friday against the Yankees in the third inning with a right forearm extensor strain, but he seems to have avoided a long-term absence. He doesn't have an exact return timeline, but the fact that he's already throwing again in some capacity just one week later is encouraging
Jul 9 2022Seabold was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right forearm extensor strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold left his spot start Friday against the Yankees with the injury, which turned out to be serious enough to send him to the injured list. He'll be out until after the All-Star break at a minimum, with a longer absence seemingly quite possible.
Jul 8 2022Seabold was removed from Friday's game against the Yankees due to right forearm extensor tightness, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold exited Friday's matchup with two outs in the top of the third inning due to an injury, and he's apparently dealing with a forearm issue. The right-hander will presumably be examined in the coming days to determine the severity of his injury, but he was forced to miss approximately two months last season due to elbow inflammation.
Jul 7 2022Seabold will start Friday's game against the Yankees, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold will start in place of Michael Wacha (arm), though he has yet to be officially promoted from Triple-A Worcester. Seabold has made two starts with the big-league club this season, failing to surpass 4.2 innings on each occasion. He has had mixed results in those two outings, surrendering a combined eight earned runs across 8.2 frames.
Jul 4 2022Seabold was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold made two starts during his time with the major-league club, and he'll be sent down following Sunday's outing. After allowing seven runs in 4.2 innings against the Blue Jays on June 27, he fared much better against the Cubs on Sunday, giving up just one run in four innings. However, the right-hander will head back to the minors after Kutter Crawford was recalled Monday.
Jul 3 2022Seabold didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 4-2 victory over the Cubs, allowing one run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his second career start following Monday's poor performance, Seabold surrendered two hits and one run before recording an out. The 26-year-old was able to rebound and prevent any more runs from scoring, though he permitted exactly two baserunners in each of his four frames. Through two starts, Seabold has allowed eight runs on 18 baserunners with 11 strikeouts in 8.2 innings and is slated for a challenge with a start against the Yankees currently on tap for next weekend.
Jun 28 2022Seabold could make another spot start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was rocked for seven runs by the Blue Jays on Monday, but the Red Sox want to give Michael Wacha an extra day before his next start, and he's the most obvious choice to get the ball. He will have been optioned for just five days at that point, so the Red Sox may have to place someone on the injured list in order to activate him.
Jun 27 2022Seabold (0-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold coughed up three long balls in the rough outing, including two-run homers from Vladimir Guerrero and Matt Chapman in the third and fifth innings, respectively. On a positive note, he struck out seven batters and forced 21 swinging strikes on 86 pitches. The 26-year-old has allowed nine runs through 7.2 innings in his two career MLB appearances. Seabold will likely be sent back to Triple-A Worcester.
Jun 26 2022The Red Sox will call up Seabold from Triple-A Worcester to start Monday's game in Toronto, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold will be stepping into the rotation as a replacement for Kutter Crawford, who was optioned to Worcester after serving as Boston's No. 5 starter while both Garrett Whitlock (hip) and Nathan Eovaldi (back) remain on the injured list. Over 11 starts at Worcester in 2022, Seabold has posted a 2.09 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 51.2 innings.
Jun 25 2022Seabold was removed from Friday's start for Triple-A Worcester after one inning for non-injury or performance reasons, suggesting he could be an option to start in Toronto next week, Katie Morrison of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold threw 21 pitches, giving up a run on two hits while striking out two, which preserves him to appear at some point during the series against the Blue Jays that begins Monday. The Red Sox could use Michael Wacha on normal rest Monday or give him an extra day of rest and have Seabold open the series in Toronto. The right-hander is 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA over 11 starts for Worcester. Seabold throws a fastball, slider, changeup and occasional curveball.
Sep 12 2021Seabold was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty made his MLB debut in a spot start Saturday, going three innings and allowing two runs on three hits. Barring additional COVID-19 cases in Boston's rotation, Seabold figures to remain with Worcester for the remainder of the season. Nick Pivetta (COVID-19) was activated to fill Seabold's roster spot and start Sunday's game.
Sep 11 2021Seabold will start Saturday's game against the White Sox, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old righty is one of Boston's top pitching prospects and may have debuted earlier in the year if he hadn't missed the first few months of the season with an elbow injury. He has a 3.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 43 strikeouts in 38.1 innings across his last seven starts at Triple-A. With Chris Sale and Nick Pivetta on the COVID-19 injured list, it's possible Seabold could stick around to make another start.
Sep 10 2021Seabold is currently with the Red Sox as a member of the taxi squad and is a strong candidate to start Saturday against the White Sox, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cora said that there a "few guys on the taxi squad" with the club in Chicago that could fill in for Chris Sale (COVID-19), but Seabold figures to be the obvious choice. The right-hander last pitched for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, so he'll be on six days rest if he makes his major-league debut against the Pale Hose as expected. Seabold has a 3.67 ERA and 44:13 K:BB across 41.2 innings at Worcester.
Jul 23 2021Triple-A Worcester will activate Seabold (elbow) from the 7-day injured list and have him start Friday's game against Lehigh Valley, Jenna Ciccotelli of NESN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold will be making his 2021 debut at a full-season affiliate after checking out fine following his two rehab outings in the rookie-level Florida Complex League earlier this month. The 25-year-old first experienced elbow inflammation shortly before Worcester started its season in early May, prompting the Red Sox to take a cautious approach with his rehab. Since he covered only three innings in his final rehab start in the FCL, Seabold will likely have a restricted pitch count in Friday's outing.
Jul 13 2021Seabold (elbow) allowed two runs on one hit and three walks across 2.2 innings during his first rehab outing with the club's Gulf Coast League affiliate Monday. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold's season at Triple-A Worcester was paused in early May due to inflammation in the right-hander's elbow. He was able to begin a throwing program just a few weeks later before progressing to tossing bullpens in mid-June. He'll likely get a few more outings under his belt in the lower levels of the minors before being officially activated. Seabold, who currently hold's a spot on the 40-man roster, could be a candidate to join the big club later this season, either as a starter or long reliever.
Jun 19 2021Seabold (elbow) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold began a throwing program in mid-May, and he was able to throw off a mound Friday. The right-hander will likely need to build back up since he's been sidelined since early May with elbow inflammation, but he's making progress in his recovery.
May 20 2021Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Seabold (elbow) has started a throwing program, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold is likely just throwing off flat ground at this point, but the activity at least represents a positive sign for the right-hander, who has been shut down since the beginning of the month with elbow inflammation. Once the 25-year-old completes a throwing progression that will likely span multiple weeks, he should slot into the Triple-A Worcester rotation.
Nov 20 2020Seabold's contract was purchased by the Red Sox on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acquired from Philadelphia in the Brandon Workman/Heath Hembree trade, Seabold has a chance to develop into a back-end starter in the not-so-distant future. The 24-year-old righty should open the year at Triple-A and could reach the majors sometime this summer.
Aug 21 2020Seabold was traded from the Phillies to the Red Sox on Friday in exchange for Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seabold was included in the Phillies' 60-man player pool to begin the season, and he'll now work within the Red Sox organization. It's possible that the right-hander could reach the major-league level at some point during the 2020 season. However, he's likely at least a season away from competing for a more permanent spot on the major-league roster. Seabold posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 40 innings in seven starts with Double-A Reading last season. Once he reaches the majors, he could presumably serve as a back-end starter or middle reliever.
