May 5 2025Romero averaged 95.3 mph during a scoreless appearance Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader versus the Mets, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was called upon in the eighth inning with two runners on, the Cardinals clinging to a one-run lead and Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo due up. After walking Soto to load the bases, Romero struck out Alonso looking and then got Nimmo to fly out to end the frame. The left-hander has spent extra time in the weight room recently in hopes of regaining some velocity and swing-and-miss, and he's now turned in three straight scoreless appearances while striking out three of nine batters faced.
Apr 19 2025Romero has just a 3:5 K:BB through his first 7.1 innings this season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero boasted a 28.6 percent strikeout rate in his first full season with the Cardinals in 2023, but that number fell to 21 percent in 2024 and sits at just 10 percent through his first eight appearances in 2025. The southpaw still induces lots of grounders (54.5 percent this season) and remains manager Oliver Marmol's primary left-handed setup man ahead of closer Ryan Helsley, but Romero might see his responsibilities decrease if he can't rediscover some swing-and-miss.
Feb 20 2025Romero (forearm) threw a live batting practice session Wednesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero closed the 2024 season on the injured list due to right forearm inflammation, but he began a throwing program in late October and appears to be facing no limitations in spring training. The 28-year-old southpaw should remain a key setup option in front of closer Ryan Helsley in 2025 after logging a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB while gathering 30 holds, seven wins and one save in 59 innings a season ago.
Jan 9 2025Romero agreed to a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Thursday to avoid arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero ended the season on the injured list with a forearm issue but resumed throwing early in the offseason and should be healthy for the start of spring training. The left-hander racked up 30 holds and one save with a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB across 59 innings last year.
Oct 22 2024Romero (forearm) is slated to begin a throwing program next week, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero landed on the 15-day injured list during the final week of the regular season due to left forearm inflammation. However, as long as he can avoid setbacks, it would appear he is in line for his normal offseason routine. Romero held a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB over 59 innings for the Cardinals during the 2024 regular season.
Sep 25 2024The Cardinals placed Romero on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left forearm flexor inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero doesn't appear to be dealing with any structural damage to his pitching arm, but the injury will prematurely end his 2024 campaign. The setup man enjoyed a successful season, finishing with a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB over 59 innings. He scooped up seven wins and was credited with 30 holds and one save.
Sep 19 2024Romero (7-3) allowed a run on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero put two runners on base in the eighth inning, and Ryan Fernandez allowed one of them to score after he entered the game. Over six innings in September, Romero has allowed two runs on six hits and three walks, a slight fade in performance from his level throughout the year. He's now at a 2.76 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB through 58.2 innings while adding a save, eight blown saves and 30 holds.
Sep 12 2024Romero earned the save in Thursday's 6-1 win over Cincinnati, allowing two hits over 1.1 scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero recorded the final out in the eighth inning, preserving a 3-1 Cardinals lead, before St. Louis added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame. Romero would come back out in the ninth, sealing the win to earn his first save this season. While the left-hander won't overtake Ryan Helsley for the closing job, he's been solid in a setup role this season and has held opponents to just one run in his last six appearances (five innings). Romero now sports a 2.65 ERA through 57.2 innings this year with a 1.08 WHIP and 51:14 K:BB.
Sep 11 2024Romero (7-2) struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner over two-thirds of an inning to earn the win Wednesday over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero got the last two outs in the top of the eighth inning, and the Cardinals pulled ahead in their half of the frame. The setup man has two wins and a blown save over five appearances (3.2 innings) in September. Romero has posted a 2.72 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 51:14 K:BB through 56.1 innings this season, and he's added 30 holds and eight blown saves while seeing steady high-leverage work.
Sep 1 2024Romero (6-2) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Yankees on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero became the pitcher of record after the Cardinals rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh inning. He allowed four runs over 9.1 innings in August, adding four holds and two blown saves in a setup role. For the year, Romero has a 2.67 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 49:13 K:BB with 30 holds over 54 innings as the Cardinals' top lefty reliever.
Aug 9 2024Romero (5-2) allowed one run on one hit over 1.1 innings Thursday to take the loss versus the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero also allowed an inherited runner to score on a two-run home run by Brandon Lowe, which put the Rays ahead for good. Since the start of July, Romero has allowed just two runs over 11 innings, but he's been charged with three blown saves in that span while adding three holds. He remains the Cardinals' top lefty setup man, posting a 2.44 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 39:9 K:BB with 28 holds and six blown saves over 48 innings this season.
Aug 3 2024Romero struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Saturday over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kyle Gibson allowed four runs in a seven-inning start, but the Cardinals rallied late and Romero was the beneficiary. Over his last 13 outings, Romero has allowed just one run across 10.2 innings, though he has given up 11 hits and two walks in that span. The lefty setup man has a 2.38 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 39:9 K:BB with 27 holds through 45.1 innings this season, though he's also been on the hook for five blown saves.
Jul 14 2024Romero (4-1) allowed a hit and a walk over two-thirds of an inning without allowing a run, earning the win in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was a little shaky but got the job done in the eighth inning. The Cardinals then took the lead with a two-run single by Nolan Arenado in their half of the frame to put Romero in line for the win. He hasn't been charged with a run over his last eight appearances, allowing seven hits and two walks over six innings in that span. For the season, the setup man has a 2.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 34:9 K:BB, 26 holds and four blown saves across 40.2 innings.
Jun 7 2024Romero (3-1) struck out one and hit one batter in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the win over the Rockies on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After his Monday meltdown versus the Astros, Romero has bounced back with a pair of scoreless outings. There's been little reason to worry about the southpaw this year, as he's pitched to a 1.97 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 32:4 K:BB over 32 innings. He's added 19 holds and two blown saves while operating in a setup role, often bridging to closer Ryan Helsley. Romero's impressive control has been fueled by his slider, which he's thrown 33.5 percent of the time. Opponents are batting just .048 off the pitch, which he's generated a 44.4 percent whiff rate on this year, per Statcast.
Jun 3 2024Romero (2-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and struck out two over one inning, taking the loss and a blown save versus the Astros on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero allowed just two runs over 13 innings in May, but he won't fare as well in June after this brutal outing. He was responsible for an Alex Bregman solo shot and a two-run home run by Yainer Diaz as part of the Astros' comeback. Even with the poor appearance, Romero has a 2.10 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 30:4 K:BB with 18 holds and two blown saves through 30 innings. The southpaw is unlikely to be removed from a setup role after just one bad outing, so he should still be a steady source of holds and solid strikeout numbers.
May 25 2024Romero (2-0) allowed three hits and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero became the pitcher of record after the Cardinals rallied for the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. While this was a bit of a shaky performance, Romero was able to post his ninth scoreless appearance over 11 outings in May. The southpaw is at a 1.35 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB while adding 17 holds and one blown save through 26.2 innings. He's the Cardinals' top lefty reliever and continues to feature in a setup role.
May 18 2024Romero (1-0) allowed a run on three hits over one inning, taking a blown save but earning the win Saturday versus the Red Sox. He did not strike out or walk a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero gave up a game-tying RBI double to Rob Refsnyder in the eighth inning, but the Cardinals answered with a five-run rally in their half of the frame. This was just the fourth run Romero's allowed all year, and just the third time he's given up multiple hits in an appearance. The southpaw has been excellent in a setup role with a 1.54 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB while adding 15 holds through 23.1 innings. Romero hasn't had a chance to challenge closer Ryan Helsley for the ninth inning yet, as the back end of the Cardinals' bullpen has been one of the team's few positives in 2024.
Apr 27 2024Romero struck out two in a perfect inning to earn his 10th hold of the season in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero had some control issues in spring training, but they disappeared when the games started to count. He's pitched to a 1.23 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB over 14.2 innings this season. Romero is part of the Cardinals' high-leverage mix with 10 holds -- matching his total from his previous four seasons combined. He is unlikely to challenge Ryan Helsley for closing duties, but Romero is providing quality innings when called upon.
Mar 4 2024Romero has allowed two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three over three Grapefruit League innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero is a candidate to be a key southpaw in the Cardinals' bullpen this season, but he'll need to navigate the control issues popping up in spring games. He had three saves, three holds and two blown saves while pitching to a career-best 3.68 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 36.2 innings last year. Romero's chances for saves are slim -- he's at best fourth in the pecking order -- but he could be a solid late-innings guy if he can get the walk rate back in order.
Jan 11 2024Romero agreed to a one-year contact with the Cardinals on Thursday, avoiding arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old southpaw is coming off his best big-league season, in which he registered a 3.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 36.2 innings. Romero should work as the Cardinals' top lefty reliever in 2024.
Sep 16 2023Romero (knee) is still dealing with weakness and instability in his left knee but will throw a bullpen session Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero hit the injured list with left patellar tendinitis in early September. The fact that he's ready to throw a bullpen session suggests he has plenty of time to return before the end of the year, though the Cardinals have no incentive to rush him given that they've long since fallen out of the playoff picture.
Sep 5 2023Romero was placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday with left knee patellar tendinitis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero has been serving as the Cardinals' primary closer since late July, though St. Louis hasn't provided a ton of save opportunities for him. Giovanny Gallegos collected a save Sunday and could see more while Romero is out, with Ryan Helsley also in the mix after recently returning from the 60-day IL.
Sep 1 2023Romero (4-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out two over 1.2 innings to take the extra-inning loss Friday versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero pitched around trouble in the ninth inning, but he wasn't so fortunate in the 10th. The Pirates were able to put up a three-run rally again him, and the Cardinals couldn't pull even in their half of the extra frame. With Ryan Helsley (forearm) back in action with a perfect eighth inning Friday, it was a terrible time for Romero to have a poor outing. Romero pitched to a 2.51 ERA, 20:1 K:BB and 0.84 WHIP over 14.1 innings in August while settling into a closer committee for the last-place Cardinals. He has a 3.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 42:10 K:BB through 36.2 innings while adding three saves, three holds and two blown saves. Despite the poor outing, Romero should continue to serve as a high-leverage lefty in the late innings of manager Oliver Marmol's game plan.
Aug 29 2023Romero (4-1) earned the extra-inning win Tuesday over the Padres, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking none over two scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero kept the game tied at 5-5 in the ninth and 10th innings before Tommy Edman's walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th. In August, Romero has gone more than one inning in six of his 10 appearances, allowing four runs over 14.1 frames with a 20:1 K:BB. He's earned a high-leverage role as the Cardinals' top left-handed reliever. Romero has a 3.34 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 40:9 K:BB, three saves and three holds over 35 innings this season.
Aug 24 2023Romero picked up the save in Wednesday's 6-4 win over Pittsburgh, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over two innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero entered the contest with a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning. He returned in the ninth and allowed one run on two hits, but he was still able to escape with his third save of the season. The left-handed reliever has now converted each of his last three save attempts and has still allowed only one home run in his 2023 campaign. He currently holds a 17:1 K:BB through nine Augusts appearances.
Aug 14 2023Romero (3-1) struck out two without giving up a hit or a walk over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Monday over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero's usage would typically lead to a save, but the official scorer deemed Giovanny Gallegos' outing brief and ineffective. This allowed Romero to pick up the win instead after the only baserunner he allowed reached on an error. Over six appearances spanning 7.1 innings this month, Romero has given up three runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out 12. He's rapidly ascending the Cardinals' bullpen hierarchy, earning some late-inning looks as the team's top southpaw reliever. He has a 3.72 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB through 29 innings while picking up two saves and three holds this year.
Aug 12 2023Romero picked up the save in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Royals. He allowed one run on three hits over 1.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero took over for Giovanny Gallegos in the eighth after he allowed three hits and a run while only recording one out. Romero managed to get the Cardinals out of the jam in the eighth and held on for the save despite allowing three hits and a run in the ninth. Though closing duties are up for grabs with Ryan Helsley (forearm) shelved, Romero owns a 4.05 ERA in 15 appearances since Helsley was shifted to the 60-day IL and has split ninth-inning work with Gallegos, who's been much more effective lately.
Jul 31 2023Romero locked down his first save of the season Sunday against the Cubs after pitching a scoreless ninth while allowing one hit and striking out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: On the day the Cardinals traded current closer Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays, Romero picks up the save. Giovanny Gallegos got the eighth inning and Romero shut the door on the Cubs' eight-game winning streak. Romero had been a little shaky as of late, giving up four runs in his last two appearances, but has been reliable as a whole since getting recalled July 4. over that span, he's accumulated two wins, two holds and a save while posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 13 innings. It appears Romero could be the Cardinals' closer, or at least split the role with Gallegos, until Ryan Helsley (forearm) is able to return.
Jul 25 2023Romero (2-1) allowed two runs on two hits over one inning to take the loss Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was perfect in the seventh inning, but manager Oliver Marmol left him in to begin the eighth. That ended up being a costly mistake, as Romero surrendered two hits and Chris Stratton would go on to give up a tiebreaking two-run triple. Romero has given up a pair of runs in each of his last two appearances, bringing his recent 7.1-inning scoreless streak to a screeching halt. The southpaw is at 4.12 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through 19.2 innings, but he likely remains the Cardinals' top lefty reliever over Andrew Suarez.
Jul 18 2023Romero (2-0) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Marlins on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero's clean nine-pitch inning set the stage for Nolan Arenado's walk-off blast in the bottom of the 10th. This was Romero's second win in his last four appearances -- in that span, he's allowed a hit and two walks over six innings while adding nine strikeouts. The 26-year-old is trending up in the Cardinals' bullpen, especially after Genesis Cabrera was designated for assignment Monday. The left-handed Romero figures to have a chance for any late-inning matchup-based assignments over the other southpaw in the bullpen, Zack Thompson, who is better suited to multi-inning outings.
Jul 9 2023Romero (1-0) walked one and struck out three over two scoreless and hitless innings to earn the extra-inning win over the White Sox on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was charged with three runs (two earned) in one inning in his previous appearance, but he was sharper Sunday. He pitched the ninth inning and stayed in for the 10th after the Cardinals gained the lead. Romero has a 3.65 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB through 12.1 major-league innings this season.
Jul 2 2023Romero was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero will take the place of Drew VerHagen, who landed on the 15-day injured list with a hip impingement. Since his last stint in the majors, Romero has pitched to a 3.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB over 15.1 innings as a reliever for Memphis. He'll likely take on a low-leverage relief role while on the big-league roster.
May 9 2023The Cardinals optioned Romero to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero gave up two earned runs while recording only one out in his last appearance Sunday versus the Tigers. Andre Pallante is joining the Cardinals' bullpen in a corresponding move.
Oct 5 2022The Cardinals optioned Romero to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was dropped from the 28-man active roster to clear room in the bullpen for Jordan Hicks (neck), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in advance of Wednesday's regular-season finale in Pittsburgh. The demotion will make Romero ineligible to be included on the Cardinals' roster for the team's upcoming wild-card series with the Phillies.
Oct 2 2022Romero has allowed at least one run in four of his last eight appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was called up to the Cardinals on Aug. 19 and logged six scoreless innings in his first five appearances with the team. Since then, he's given up six runs across 6.1 innings in his last eight outings. The 26-year-old southpaw has a 5.65 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB through 14.1 innings between the Cardinals and the Phillies this year, working exclusively as a low-leverage option.
Aug 19 2022Romero was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was acquired from the Phillies in late July and will join the big-league club after spending the past few weeks with Memphis. The 25-year-old missed the first half of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he hasn't allowed a run over seven innings at Triple-A since returning from the IL.
Jul 30 2022Romero was traded from the Phillies to the Cardinals on Saturday in exchange for Edmundo Sosa. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was sent down by the Phillies last weekend and will remain at the Triple-A level following Sunday's trade. The southpaw spent the start of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery and has tossed four scoreless innings over five relief appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year.
Jul 29 2022The Phillies optioned Romero to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero was sent out to make room on the 26-man active roster for Bailey Falter, who was called up from Triple-A ahead of his scheduled start against the Cubs last weekend. After being activated from the 60-day injured list July 15, Romero made two appearances out of the Philadelphia bullpen prior to his demotion.
Jul 15 2022Romero (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero spent the start of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in May of 2021, but he began a rehab assignment in mid-June and posted a 1.54 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 11.2 innings over 11 appearances in the minors. The southpaw earned seven holds over 23 appearances during his first two seasons in the majors, and it's possible that he'll work his way into some setup duties during the second half of the 2022 season.
Jun 17 2022Romero (elbow) had his rehab assignment transferred to Single-A Clearwater on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero's first rehab appearance came with the Phillies' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday, and he struck out the side in a perfect inning. The southpaw will take another step in his recovery process by joining the Single-A club.
Jun 14 2022Romero (elbow) began a rehab assignment with the Phillies' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero is ready for game action as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery, a procedure he underwent in May of last year. He'll presumably need a lengthy rehab assignment before he's activated off the injured list. He's far from guaranteed to head to the active roster once cleared, as he's thrown just 19.2 career major-league innings, struggling to a 7.32 ERA.
Mar 12 2022Romero (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero couldn't be on the injured list over the offseason, but he was also going to return to it as soon as possible, as he's out for the early part of the season while he recovers from Tommy John surgery. He'll be ineligible to return before early June, though he could be out longer than that, as he underwent the procedure in mid-May of last year. He could return to the big-league bullpen in the second half but is unlikely to fill a high-leverage role.
May 18 2021Romero was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero struggled to a 7.00 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in nine innings of work before hitting the injured list in early May with what was originally referred to as a left elbow sprain. As it turns out, the injury is a very serious one, and he'll now miss not only the remainder of the season but likely the majority of next year as well.
May 6 2021Romero was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left elbow sprain Thursday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero's fastball velocity dipped to 94.3 mph Wednesday after averaging 95.7 mph over his previous two appearances, so it's perhaps no surprise to learn that something was wrong with his arm. The severity of the injury and his expected return date are not yet clear. Fellow lefty Ranger Suarez was recalled in a corresponding move.
Apr 11 2021The Phillies recalled Romero from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero will provide the Phillies with another fresh arm out of the bullpen after Archie Bradley (oblique) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. Over his 12 appearances out of the Philadelphia bullpen as a rookie in 2020, Romero gave up nine earned runs on 13 hits and two walks in 10.2 innings.
Mar 28 2021The Phillies optioned Romero to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Romero made his big-league debut in 2020 as a reliever, the Phillies may not be ready to pull the plug on developing the 24-year-old as a starter. Since there wasn't going to be a spot available for him in the Phillies' Opening Day rotation, Romero will instead move to Triple-A in order to pick up regular innings. The Phillies could still keep him near the top of the list for a promotion if the team needs a mop-up man or another lefty option out of the bullpen.
Aug 21 2020Romero was recalled by the Phillies on Friday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was optioned to the alternate training site after serving as the 29th man for Thursday's doubleheader, but he'll quickly rejoin the team with Jose Alvarez (groin) placed on the injured list. Romero has yet to make his major-league debut and had a 6.88 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 40:35 K:BB over 53.2 innings at Triple-A in 2019.
Aug 16 2020Romero was optioned to the Phillies' secondary training site on Sunday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Romero earned his first big-league callup Saturday but remained on the roster for just two days and did not get the chance to make his debut. He's clearly in the Phillies' plans, however, so he could get the chance to return to the roster when the team next needs an extra lefty.
Aug 14 2020Romero was recalled from the alternate training site Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was unable to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he's now on the cusp of his major-league debut after being promoted Friday. Romero split 2019 between Double-A and Triple-A and had a 5.82 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 11.1 innings, and he should work in long relief for the Phillies.
Jul 20 2018Romero was placed on the minor-league DL on Friday due to a sprained oblique, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. The Phillies didn't describe a timetable for Romero but it's expected that he will be out a couple weeks while recovering from this injury. Through 18 starts with Double-A Reading, he's logged a 3.80 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 100 strikeouts in 106.2 innings.
