Jun 21 2024Bart (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will see game action for the first time since being placed on the 10-day IL on May 28, a significant step forward in his recovery from a Grade 1 sprained thumb on his glove hand. Once he's cleared to rejoin the Pirates, Bart should push Jason Delay out of the catching mix.
Jun 18 2024Bart (thumb) was spotted playing catch on the field Monday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-handed Bart is on the injured list with a Grade 1 sprain of his left thumb. Though he wasn't wearing his full catching gear Monday, the fact that he had a baseball glove on his injured hand would seem to indicate that the sprained thumb has healed on some level. The Pirates will likely wait and see how Bart responds to additional baseball activities before sending him out on a minor-league rehab assignment.
May 28 2024Bart (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old was lifted from Sunday's matchup against Atlanta due to the injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next week and a half, though the severity of the injury remains unclear. Grant Koch was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis and will serve as Yasmani Grandal's backup while Bart is unavailable.
May 26 2024Bart left Sunday's game against Atlanta due to a left thumb injury, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was pulled before the start of the second inning Sunday, with Yasmani Grandal taking over behind the plate. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but Bart is being evaluated by medical staff, per Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bart has gone 9-for-28 with one home run and four RBI in May.
May 23 2024Bart went 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart made quite an impression on his former team, launching a 434-foot grand slam off Mason Black in the fourth inning to put the Pirates ahead 5-1. The 27-year-old Bart's been hot of late, going 9-for-23 (.391) with three extra-base hits in his last seven games on the heels of an 0-for-14 stretch. Overall, he's slashing .267/.362/.517 with four homers, 12 RBI and seven runs scored across 21 games. With Yasmani Grandal nursing a groin injury, Bart could be in line for a regular starting role in the short term.
May 5 2024Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he stuck around over Henry Davis -- who was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday -- once Yasmani Grandal (foot) was activated from the 10-day injured list, Bart looks as though he'll operate as the Pirates' No. 2 option behind the plate. He'll take a seat for the second straight day while Grandal logs another start at catcher.
May 1 2024Bart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart appears to have wrested the No. 1 catching job away from Henry Davis, but the former will hit the bench for Wednesday's day game after spending eight innings behind the dish in a 5-2 loss Tuesday night. Davis will draw the start Wednesday, but he could be headed to Triple-A Indianapolis if Yasmani Grandal (foot) is reinstated from the 10-day injured list this weekend.
Apr 26 2024Bart went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Brewers while also drawing a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart put the Pirates ahead with a three-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, giving the catcher his third home run in just seven games this season. He also drew a two-out walk in the fifth before coming around to score the tying run on a Jack Suwinski double, marking Bart's first game this season with two runs scored. The backstop has hit safely in six of his seven games and continues to make a strong case for more playing time with Henry Davis scuffling at the plate and Yasmani Grandal (foot) still on the 10-day injured list.
Apr 25 2024Bart will start at catcher and bat cleanup Thursday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been included in the lineup in four of the past six games and appears to have surpassed Henry Davis on the depth chart at catcher. The eventual return of Yasmani Grandal (foot) from the 10-day injured list could cost Bart some playing time, but for now, the 27-year-old should garner the lion's share of starts behind the dish while he's swinging a hot bat. Bart heads into Thursday's game with a 1.119 OPS over 23 plate appearances on the season.
Apr 20 2024Bart (head) is starting at catcher and batting fifth in Saturday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was slated to start Wednesday against the Mets, but he was scratched from the lineup late while dealing with concussion symptoms after being hit in the head by a ball during batting practice a few days prior. Having evidently checked out OK, Bart will draw the start against Boston right-hander Kutter Crawford while Henry Davis gets a rest.
Apr 17 2024Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Bart was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Mets after the catcher wasn't feeling well leading up to game time, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While elaborating on the matter, Shelton noted that Bart was hit in the head by a ball during batting practice a few days ago, but the Pirates had fully expected the 27-year-old to be ready to catch for Wednesday's series finale. However, in light of Bart being scratched prior to first pitch a few days after taking the hit to the head, it's possible that the catcher is dealing with symptoms of a concussion. The Pirates haven't explicitly said that Bart is in concussion protocol at this time, so he'll be considered day-to-day heading into this weekend's three-game series with the Red Sox.
Apr 14 2024Bart went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run Sunday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart made only his third start with the Pirates and first since Monday. While his playing time has been limited to giving Henry Davis breathers, Bart has made the most of his chances by going 4-for-12 with a pair of home runs and a double since joining Pittsburgh. Due to the lack of playing time, Bart is difficult to roster in most formats, though he is a player to monitor given Davis' early-season struggles.
Apr 6 2024Bart went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Incredibly, Bart went yard on his very first swing as a member of the Pirates -- his first home run in the big leagues since Sept. 10, 2022, as noted by Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. Bart, the second overall pick by the Giants in 2018, struggled to find his footing in parts of fours seasons in San Francisco, but he's getting a fresh start in Pittsburgh after being acquired via trade this week. He will play behind Henry Davis at the catcher position with Yasmani Grandal (foot) on the injured list and not close to a return.
Apr 2 2024The Giants traded Bart to the Pirates on Tuesday in exchange for Austin Strickland, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants designated Bart for assignment Sunday, and he will now attempt to carve out a role for himself with the Pirates. The 27-year-old backstop has struggled at the plate throughout his MLB career, slashing .219/.288/.335 over four seasons, but he'll give the Pirates depth behind the dish while Yasmani Grandal (foot) is sidelined.
Mar 31 2024The Giants designated Bart for assignment Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The former top prospect was once the heir-apparent to Buster Posey, but the 27-year-old struggled to a .623 OPS in 162 career games in the big leagues. Bart could receive some interest on the waiver wire given his prospect pedigree, and a change of scenery would likely be beneficial.
Mar 28 2024Bart (hamstring) made the Giants' Opening Day roster but didn't appear off the bench in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart tweaked his right hamstring in a March 22 Cactus League game, but he was able to play in both of the Giants' Bay Bridge Series exhibition games against the Athletics on Monday and Tuesday to guarantee his availability for the start of the season. He's opening the season as the Giants' No. 3 catcher and is unlikely to see much playing time behind Patrick Bailey and Tom Murphy.
Mar 23 2024Bart (hamstring) is likely to play Sunday in the Giants' exhibition game against Triple-A Sacramento, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart left Friday's Cactus League game against the Cubs after tweaking his hamstring, but it appears the catcher shouldn't miss extended time. He's had an impressive spring training and is slashing .407/.514/.444 with five RBI over 35 plate appearances.
Mar 22 2024Bart left Friday's Cactus League game against the Cubs due to a hamstring injury, Russell Dorsey of Bally Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart had one at-bat in Friday's game before being lifted for a pinch hitter. The severity of the hamstring injury should be better known following the conclusion of Friday's contest. Bart is slashing .407/.514/.444 with five RBI over 35 plate appearances in spring training.
Feb 21 2024Bart appears unlikely to break camp with the Giants and is out of minor-league options, making him a candidate to be traded or otherwise moved off the 40-man roster prior to Opening Day, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Chosen with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, Bart was seen as the heir apparent to Buster Posey at the time he was selected, but the now-27-year-old backstop has struggled to meet expectations since reaching the big leagues for the first time in 2020. Due to groin injuries and his own struggles at the dish, Bart appeared in just 30 games for the Giants in 2023, mustering a .207/.263/.264 slash line across 95 plate appearances. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Patrick Bailey surpassed Bart on the organizational depth chart, and the Giants bolstered their catching ranks with the signing of veteran Tom Murphy, who is expected to serve as the No. 2 option and should play regularly versus left-handed pitching. Unless the team elects to keep three catchers on the Opening Day roster or unless Bailey or Murphy succumb to an injury in spring training, the Giants don't look like they'll have room for Bart, whose pedigree should be reason enough for another catching-needy team to acquire him via trade or a waiver claim.
Sep 29 2023The Giants optioned Bart to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has spent most of this season in the minors and will now finish out the year there. Selected second overall in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Georgia Tech, the now-26-year-old catcher owns a highly disappointing .219/.288/.335 career batting line in 503 major-league plate appearances. He could be a trade candidate this winter.
Sep 26 2023The Giants recalled Bart from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After losing Jakob Junis (neck) for the year, the Giants will opt to bolster their bench depth and add Bart as their third catcher on the active roster. The 26-year-old backstop went 0-for-9 during his most recent stint in the majors and doesn't figure to see regular playing time during the final week of the season.
Sep 13 2023Bart was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was up with the big club while Patrick Bailey was on the 7-day concussion injured list, but with Bailey having now been activated, Bart's presence is no longer required. Bart was hitless in four games during this most recent stint in the majors.
Sep 6 2023Bart was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Patrick Bailey suffered a concussion Tuesday and will be sidelined at least for the next week. Bart could start at catcher against lefties while Bailey is out, with Blake Sabol seeing most of the action versus righties. The first-round pick has a lowly .634 OPS over parts of four major-league seasons.
Jun 10 2023Bart (groin) was reinstated off the 10-day injured list by the Giants on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will get more time in Triple-A while recovering from his groin strain, but this likely has at least something to do with Patrick Bailey and Blake Sabol being better options for the Giants at this point. It's likely the Giants will give Bart a chance again this summer.
Jun 9 2023Bart (groin) is being evaluated by the Giants on Friday to determine his next steps, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, and the Giants will see how their backstop is recovering from the left groin strain that has sidelined him since the middle of May. It's possible Bart could be activated in the early part of next week, but his status likely won't be updated until the weekend. It's also unknown if he'll return to a starting role with Patrick Bailey receiving most of the reps behind the plate while Bart has been out.
Jun 2 2023Bart (groin) began a rehab assignment Friday and went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in Triple-A Sacramento's game versus Tacoma. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart may need a few games on the rehab assignment after being sidelined for over two weeks already. The catcher could be activated at some point next week. The Giants begin a three-game series in Colorado on Tuesday. It's unclear if Bart would return to a starting role once healthy, as Patrick Bailey has hit .310 across his first 12 major-league games.
May 29 2023Bart (groin) said that he's scheduled to resume baserunning drills Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart noted that he's already been taking part in all baseball activities with the exception of running the bases, so assuming he avoids any setbacks with his injured list groin Tuesday, he could get the green light to begin a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week. Patrick Bailey was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on May 19 when Bart was placed on the 10-day IL and has been operating as the Giants' primary backstop for the past week and a half.
May 19 2023An MRI on Friday revealed that Bart has a Grade 1 left groin strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grade 1 is the mildest strain, so this is good news for Bart. The catcher was placed on the injured list before Friday's game against the Marlins, and he has a chance to return to the lineup before the end of May.
May 12 2023Bart is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Blake Sabol will catch and bat eighth. Bart had started three straight games behind the plate for the Giants prior to this night of rest.
May 8 2023Bart isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will take a seat for a second straight day after also sitting out of Sunday's series finale against the Brewers. Blake Sabol draws the start behind the dish and will bat seventh in Bart's place.
May 7 2023Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the past four games and will receive a day off after he went 4-for-13 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and a run. Blake Sabol will step in behind the plate for Sunday's series finale.
May 1 2023Bart is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After missing four straight games with right groin tightness, Bart returned to action Sunday in Mexico City, playing all eight innings behind the plate while going 0-for-4 in a 6-4 loss to the Padres. Though Bart isn't dealing with any reported setbacks, the Giants will give Bart a chance to recuperate Monday on the heels of his first game action in nearly a week. Blake Sabol will catch for starting pitcher Ross Stripling in the series opener in Houston.
Apr 30 2023Bart (groin) is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Sunday against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been sidelined by a groin issue since April 24, but he'll return to action for Sunday's series finale versus the Friars in Mexico City. The 26-year-old is still looking for his first home run and RBI of the season but has a .303/.378/.364 slash line through 37 plate appearances.
Apr 29 2023Bart (groin) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been sidelined since Monday due to tightness in his right groin, but he traveled with the Giants to Mexico City for this special two-game series and participated in a team workout Friday. Maybe he could be back in action Sunday. Blake Sabol will draw another start at catcher Saturday at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu.
Apr 28 2023Bart (groin) ran on the field in Mexico on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants have a rare Friday off with the team playing a two-game series in Mexico starting Saturday against the Padres, but it's a positive sign that Bart was able to participate in some pregame activities. The backstop has been out of action with tightness in his right groin strain, and he has a chance to return to the lineup against San Diego over the weekend.
Apr 27 2023Bart (groin) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the third straight absence for Bart as he works through a bout of right groin tightness. Blake Sabol is catching and batting seventh for the Giants on Thursday afternoon.
Apr 2 2023Bart was diagnosed with a mid-back strain and was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to March 31. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was scheduled to make his first start of the season Saturday but was scratched with the back injury, and he will now be sidelined until at least April 11. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Bart may require only the 10-day minimum on the shelf, so he could return when first eligible. In the meantime, Roberto Perez and Blake Sabol should split catching duties for the Giants.
Apr 1 2023Bart was unavailable off the bench for Saturday's contest and he will undergo a scan on his back before Sunday's game against the Yankees, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart picked up the injury during batting practice, Kapler said. The backstop should be considered day-to-day until the results of the imaging are available. Roberto Perez got the start in Bart's place Saturday and could be back in the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Yankees.
Mar 30 2023Bart is not in the Giants' starting lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Roberto Perez will start at catcher and bat ninth against right-hander Gerrit Cole. It looks like there will be a sort of timeshare between Bart and Perez in the early going. They're both right-handed hitters, so it's not a natural platoon.
Mar 17 2023Bart has gone 5-for-16 (.308) with three extra-base hits, two RBI and two runs scored over seven Cactus League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Blake Sabol has earned a lot of attention for his strong hitting and Roberto Perez has been praised for his defensive play behind the plate, so there's still no guarantee Bart breaks camp with the Giants. Since Sabol also has experience in the outfield and is a Rule 5 pick, it's possible the Giants could carry three catchers if Bart makes the team. For his part, Bart has hit well when in the lineup this spring, so it's up to him to finish the exhibition slate strong and force a difficult decision.
Feb 16 2023Bart is not guaranteed to make the Giants' camp out of spring training, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart had a rough year in 2022, logging a paltry .215/.296/.364 slash line with 11 home runs and 25 RBI in 97 games. He'll need to show some growth in the spring to maintain his place this season. Veterans Roberto Perez and Austin Wynns are in the mix to make the Opening Day roster, as is Rule 5 pick Blake Sabol -- a strong spring from two of those players could see Bart open the campaign at Triple-A Sacramento.
Sep 30 2022Bart is not in Friday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart is hitting .136 with zero home runs in his last 10 games. Austin Wynns will start behind the dish and hit ninth.
Sep 29 2022Bart will not start Thursday's game against the Rockies, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been the Giants' clear primary catcher down the stretch, starting eight of the last 12 games prior to Thursday's contest. He hasn't had much success at the plate over that stretch, however, going 3-for-25 with 14 strikeouts. Austin Wynns will start behind the plate Thursday.
Sep 25 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart is 1-for-19 with 11 strikeouts over his past eight contests and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Austin Wynns will start behind the plate and bat eighth.
Sep 23 2022Bart isn't in the lineup Friday against Arizona, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart is on the bench for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Thursday. Austin Wynns will start behind the dish and bat eighth.
Sep 21 2022Bart isn't starting Wednesday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will get a day off after going 1-for-3 and scoring three runs Tuesday in Colorado. Austin Wynns will take his spot behind home plate and bat ninth.
Sep 19 2022Bart isn't in the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has struck out in eight of his last nine at-bats and will watch Monday's contest from the dugout. Austin Wynns will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.
Sep 14 2022Bart isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Atlanta, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went 1-for-3 with a strikeout Tuesday but will head to the bench for the second time in the last three games. Austin Wynns will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.
Sep 12 2022Bart isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will take a seat after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Sunday's contest at Wrigley Field. Austin Wynns will handle the catching duties and hit ninth as a result.
Sep 10 2022Bart went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart entered Saturday 2-for-15 across his last seven games, which included a stint on the injured list with a concussion. The catcher broke out of the slump in a big way, with his second-inning homer giving the Giants all they needed to earn the win. The 25-year-old is up to a .233/.313/.414 slash line with 11 long balls, 23 RBI, 27 runs scored, two stolen bases and six doubles through 79 contests. He's split time behind the dish since his return, but Bart should reclaim the No. 1 catcher job by the end of the campaign.
Sep 9 2022Bart is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Game 1 of Thursday's twin bill against the Brewers before taking a seat for the nightcap, and he'll remain on the bench for Friday's series opener in Chicago. Austin Wynns will start behind the plate and bat ninth.
Sep 7 2022Bart isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart returned to the lineup Tuesday and went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. He'll head to the bench a day later while Austin Wynns starts behind the dish and bats eighth.
Sep 6 2022Bart (concussion) went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart missed the minimum seven days after entering the concussion protocol last Monday. Now that he's healthy again, he should retake the No. 1 catcher job for the Giants. He had a strong August, slashing .328/.371/.517 with three home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored and two doubles in 18 contests, so he'll look to pick up where he left off.
Sep 3 2022Bart passed his concussion tests Saturday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Previous reports indicated that Bart expected to return from the 7-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday, and that now appears to be nearly a lock. He'll get the chance to reclaim his starting role down the stretch and will look to build on his .227/.311/.399 slash line, a performance that's good for a slightly above-average 103 wRC+ despite his 36.8 percent strikeout rate.
Sep 2 2022Bart (concussion) expects to return from the 7-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart remains in the concussion protocol Friday, but he's feeling better and will likely be back in action following a minimal IL stint. Austin Wynns and Andrew Knapp should continue to serve as the Giants' top two options behind the plate until Bart is officially cleared to return.
Aug 30 2022Bart (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old entered the concussion protocol after taking a foul tip off his mask during Monday's contest, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next week. Bart was initially dealing with mild symptoms, so he may be able to return after missing the minimum of seven days. Yermin Mercedes was promoted to serve as the Giants' backup catcher while Austin Wynns steps into the starting role.
Aug 29 2022Bart was removed from Monday's game against the Padres due to an undisclosed injury, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart took a foul tip to the mask early in the game and was spotted being checked out by the training staff before the start of the fourth inning, but he remained in the game until the bottom of the fifth. He's likely headed back to the clubhouse for further testing. Austin Wynns replaced Bart behind the dish.
Aug 28 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart is receiving some routine maintenance after going 3-for-10 with a double and a walk while catching in each of the Giants' last three contests. Austin Wynns will replace him behind the plate Sunday, batting eighth.
Aug 23 2022Bart is on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has two strikeouts in consecutive games and 11 in his last 31 at-bats, although he has a respectable .772 OPs in that 10-game span. Austin Wynns is handling catching duties Tuesday.
Aug 20 2022Bart went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart had gone 0-for-6 in two games since receiving an off day Wednesday. He snapped the skid in the sixth inning Saturday with a solo shot to get the Giants on the board. The catcher has gone 17-for-48 (.354) with four homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored in his last 14 games. For the season, Bart has a .228/.315/.407 slash line with 10 long balls, 21 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases, though he's clearly trending in the right direction as he gets more fully adjusted to major-league pitching.
Aug 17 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart is in the midst of an eight-game hit streak during which he's gone 15-for-31 with two home runs, five RBI and five runs, and he'll take a seat for Wednesday's contest. Austin Wynns will step in behind the plate and bat ninth.
Aug 16 2022Bart went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run in Monday's 6-1 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has produced five hits in his first two games back in action after he recently missed five days with a right ankle sprain. The young backstop endured a tough start to the 2022 campaign, but he's been much improved since getting a call-up from Triple-A Sacramento on July 6. In his 28 games since rejoining the big club, Bart is slashing .314/.344/.523 with five home runs, 13 runs, 12 RBI and a stolen base in 28 games. Those numbers make Bart a usable option even in fantasy leagues that start only one catcher.
Aug 14 2022Bart (ankle) is in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A sore ankle prevented Bart from starting San Francisco's last four games, but he is ready to get back behind the plate. He will hit ninth Sunday against Pirates starter Zach Thompson.
Aug 13 2022Bart (ankle) isn't starting Saturday against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been dealing with an ankle injury since Tuesday and will be held out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game. However, the Giants hope he'll be available off the bench Saturday. Austin Wynns is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.
Aug 12 2022Bart (ankle) remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been dealing with a right ankle sprain and was only available on an emergency basis Wednesday. He'll be available in the same capacity Friday. Austin Wynns remains the starting catcher in his absence.
Aug 10 2022Bart was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain after undergoing an MRI and was available on an emergency basis during Wednesday's 13-7 loss to the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has been held out of the lineup the past two days due to the injury, but the Giants hope he'll be able to retake the field Friday versus the Pirates after Thursday's scheduled off day. A trip to the injured list doesn't appear to be in play at this point. Austin Wynns has worked behind the plate the past couple days and should continue to start until Bart is cleared to return.
Aug 9 2022Bart (ankle) wasn't available for Tuesday's game versus the Padres, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: X-rays on Bart's right ankle came back negative, but the catcher is still likely to miss Wednesday's game while undergoing an MRI. For the bulk of Bart's absence, Austin Wynns is likely to handle the majority of the catching duties.
Aug 7 2022Bart went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a 7-3 victory over the Athletics on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart had trouble adjusting to big-league pitching at the beginning of the season before being demoted to Triple-A Sacramento. The rookie catcher was hitting .156 at the time of the demotion, but appears to heating up so far in August. Bart is 7-for-16 with two home runs over the first week of the month. The former first-round draft pick has the potential for legitimate power production at the scarce catcher position and could prove to be a valuable fantasy addition down the stretch.
Aug 6 2022Bart (groin) is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the A's, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A groin issue kept Bart out the past couple days, but he's been cleared to man the backstop and bat seventh against right-hander Adam Oller. Bart's numbers for the season leave a lot to be desired, but he's been much more productive at the dish since returning from Triple-A in July. He's slashed .273/.304/.485 with four home runs in his last 23 games, but he's also struck out 23 times in that span.
Aug 4 2022Bart (groin) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Bart will take a seat for the series finale after he tweaking his groin late in Wednesday's 3-0 loss. Manager Gabe Kapler suggested that Bart's injury is a minor one, and there's a good chance the backstop would have sat Thursday in the day game after a night game even if he was at 100 percent health. Austin Wynns will catch for starting pitcher Jakob Junis in the matinee contest.
Aug 3 2022Bart (groin) was replaced by a pinch runner in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went 3-for-4 in the contest, but exited after his ninth-inning single. Slusser adds that the injury is considered minor and it's unlikely Bart will start Thursday's afternoon game after a night game Wednesday, so he should be considered day-to-day for now. It's unclear if he'll at least be available off the bench Thursday.
Aug 2 2022Bart went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 9-5 loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart capped a five-run fourth inning with a two-run shot to center off Los Angeles starter Tyler Anderson and added an infield single in the sixth. The 25-year-old has homered in two of his last three games and has gone deep four times in 21 games since being recalled from the minors July 6, however, in that same span he's walked only three times despite possessing a 10.4 BB% on the season. Bart is slashing .191/.289/.368 with eight home runs, 21 runs and 16 RBI in 58 games.
Jul 31 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Austin Wynns will step in behind the plate for Bart, who went 2-for-10 with a solo home run while starting in each of the past three contests. Though Bart is currently operating as the Giants' No. 1 catcher, he could fall into more of a timeshare by the end of the week if Curt Casali (oblique) is cleared to return from the injured list.
Jul 30 2022Bart went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart didn't have an extra-base hit in his last 10 games since homering on July 15. He went back-to-back with Luis Gonzalez in the fourth inning, with Bart's solo shot accounting for the margin of victory. The catcher is up to seven long balls, 14 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles through 166 plate appearances.
Jul 28 2022Bart (illness) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart missed one game due to an illness. He's down to a .224 batting average with 21 strikeouts in 18 contests in July. While the 25-year-old is likely to see most of the starts behind the dish, his .180/.288/.331 slash line and 43.8 percent strikeout rate remain discouraging. Curt Casali (oblique) began a rehab assignment Wednesday, and he could threaten Bart's place on the 26-man roster once he returns, as the Giants may want their catcher of the future to work on his swing at Triple-A Sacramento rather than in the big leagues.
Jul 27 2022Bart (illness) is absent from Wednesday's lineup versus the Diamondbacks, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After leaving Tuesday's contest early due to an illness, Bart will miss Wednesday's series finale. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat ninth against Arizona.
Jul 26 2022Bart left Tuesday's game versus the Diamondbacks with an illness, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Gabe Kapler said Bart was "ghost white" and throwing up. It's unclear if the 25-year-old catcher will have to miss a game or two -- Wednesday's series finale against Arizona is a 3:40 p.m. Eastern start time. Bart likely would have sat out a day game after a night game anyway, so it's a question of if he'll be available off the bench. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday.
Jul 24 2022Bart went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was one of two Giants with multiple hits in the contest. He also showed off a little speed with his seventh-inning steal. Since rejoining the Giants on July 6, Bart has gone 11-for-41 (.268) with four extra-base hits and a 3:16 BB:K. The catcher is slashing .191/.303/.351 with six home runs, 13 RBI, 19 runs scored, two steals and three doubles in 51 contests, though his 42.8 percent strikeout rate remains discouragingly high.
Jul 21 2022Bart isn't starting Thursday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the last four games and went 4-for-12 with a homer, a double, four runs and two RBI. Austin Wynns is taking over behind the dish and batting ninth.
Jul 15 2022Bart went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart hit the first of three Giants home runs off Brewers closer Josh Hader in the ninth inning. The long ball was Bart's second in his last four games and his sixth of the season. The catcher is hitting .318 in nine contests since he rejoined the Giants on July 6. For the season, he's at a .188/.316/.375 slash line with 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base through 133 plate appearances.
Jul 13 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento on July 6 to replace the injured Curt Casali (oblique), Bart has worked ahead of Austin Wynns as the Giants' No. 1 catcher. Bart has gone a collective 4-for-17 with a home run, a double and two walks while starting in six of the past seven games, and he likely strengthened his grip on the top job by producing his first multi-hit effort with the Giants since April 29 in Tuesday's 13-0 win. With the Giants and Diamondbacks wrapping up their series Wednesday with a day game after a night game, Bart will be receiving some routine maintenance.
Jul 12 2022Bart went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 13-0 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went yard in the second inning and added a single in the eighth for his first multi-hit effort since April 29. The catcher has gone 4-for-17 (.235) in six contests since he was called up to replace Curt Casali (oblique) on the active roster. Bart owns a .168/.299/.327 slash line with five homers, 10 RBI, 15 runs scored, a stolen base and two doubles in 127 plate appearances, but he's still managed steady playing time in his second stint in the majors this year.
Jul 8 2022Bart is starting Friday's game against San Diego, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was called up by the Giants on Wednesday and will be in the lineup for a third consecutive game Friday. Over the last two games, he's gone 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a strikeout.
Jul 6 2022Bart was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old is up with the Giants in the wake of Curt Casali's oblique injury, which is expected to carry a 3-to-4 week absence. Bart posted a .596 OPS in 22 games before being demoted to the minors and should work as the No. 2 catcher to Austin Wynns.
Jun 8 2022Bart was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento after Tuesday's loss to the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will go down to Sacramento after struggling to find any consistency at the plate so far this season. Since May 18, he has produced a .080 average with no extra-base hits and 15 strikeouts over 25 at-bats. The catcher will look to get right in Triple-A and potentially return to the big leagues later this season. The Giants will replace him on the roster with Austin Wynns, who was acquired from the Phillies via trade Wednesday.
Jun 2 2022Bart went 1-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was the only Giant to reach base multiple times in the contest, which saw the visitors earn just six baserunners. The single snapped an 0-for-9 skid for the catcher, who had two walks and a run scored in that span. He's still slashing a meager .161/.305/.310 with four home runs, seven RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in 105 plate appearances. With an abysmal 44.8 percent strikeout rate, Bart's struggling to make contact, though his 14.3 percent walk rate is solid. Without better hitting, he'll continue to see more of a timeshare role with Curt Casali behind the dish.
Jun 1 2022Bart isn't starting Wednesday against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went 0-for-4 with a run, a walk and three strikeouts in Tuesday's win over Philadelphia, and he'll be out of the lineup for the fourth time in the last six games. Curt Casali is starting behind the plate and batting sixth.
May 30 2022Bart will sit Monday against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart finds himself on the bench for the third time in the last four games. He's struggled to a .160/.299/.321 line on the year while striking out 44.3 percent of the time. Curt Casali starts behind the plate Monday.
May 28 2022Bart will sit Saturday against Cincinnati, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart didn't have much of an edge in playing time over Curt Casali throughout the middle of May, and with Casali back from a concussion, there's no guarantee Bart will make more than half the starts going forward. Casali owns an .816 OPS in 19 games this season, while Bart has posted a .634 OPS over 30 contests.
May 27 2022Bart will sit Friday against the Reds, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart hits the bench for the second time in three games. He hasn't done much at the plate this season, hitting .165/.305/.329 while striking out 45.3 percent of the time. Michael Papierski will start at catcher.
May 24 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Mets, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the past two games and will take a seat after going 1-for-5 with three strikeouts. Mike Papierski will start behind the plate Tuesday, forming a battery with Logan Webb.
May 22 2022Bart will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was on the bench for four of the Giants' last five games and appeared to be moving into the No. 2 role behind the plate, but he should now have some temporary security atop the depth chart after Curt Casali (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list Saturday. For the season, Bart is batting a disappointing .169 with four home runs in 86 plate appearances.
May 21 2022Bart will sit Saturday against San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in the last five games. He's hit just .103/.278/.207 while striking out 44.4 percent of the time in the month of May. Michael Papierski will make his major-league debut behind the plate.
May 20 2022Bart isn't starting Friday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday against the Rockies, and he'll be out of the lineup for the third time in the last four games. Curt Casali will start behind the dish and bat eighth.
May 17 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart has hits in his past three contests but finds himself on the bench for the second straight game. Curt Casali will receive another start behind the plate, forming a battery with Alex Cobb.
May 16 2022Bart isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Colorado, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Francisco will give Curt Casali a chance behind the dish in this one after Bart caught the last two games of the weekend series against the Cardinals. He's collected a hit in each of his last three games but is off to a rough start at the dish in May, going 3-for-23 with a homer, two RBI and four runs scored over his first nine games.
May 13 2022Bart is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart and Curt Casali have alternated turns behind the plate over the last six games. Casali will catch for Logan Webb on Friday, but Bart should return to the lineup Saturday if the pattern continues.
May 10 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started three of the past four games but will take a seat while mired in an 0-for-15 slump. Curt Casali will work behind the plate in his place.
May 8 2022Bart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the past two games and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale. He went 3-for-4 against the Nationals on April 29 but is otherwise hitless in his past 12 games. Curt Casali will work behind the plate and bat ninth in his place.
May 5 2022Bart isn't starting Thursday against the Cardinals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started in the last three games and went 0-for-6 with a run, three walks and three strikeouts. Curt Casali will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.
Apr 30 2022Bart will hit the bench Saturday against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart and Saturday's starter, Curt Casali, have now alternated turns behind the plate for 14 straight games. Assuming the pattern continues, Bart should return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale.
Apr 25 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart and Curt Casali will alternate turns behind the dish for the 10th consecutive game. Manager Gabe Kapler hasn't suggested that the two backstops will work in a timeshare moving forward, so Bart can probably be viewed as the nominal No. 1 option for the time being.
Apr 23 2022Bart is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart played all nine innings in Friday's game despite dealing with a blister on his left hand, so it would seem he is being held out Saturday with the Giants playing an afternoon affair following a night game. Curt Casali will start behind the plate in Bart's place.
Apr 22 2022Bart (hand) is starting Friday's game against the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was hit by a pitch Wednesday against the Mets and missed two games, but he'll be back in action for Friday's series opener. He's hitting .207 with two homers, a double, four runs, four RBI and a stolen base this year.
Apr 21 2022Bart isn't starting Thursday's game against the Mets due to a blister on his left hand, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's win over the Mets and is experiencing some pain while swinging a bat. Curt Casali will start behind the dish and bat ninth Thursday, but Bart doesn't expect to miss any time beyond Thursday's day off.
Apr 19 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started behind the plate during Game 1 and went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts, and it's no surprise he won't be starting both ends of the twin bill. Curt Casali will catch for ace Logan Webb in the nightcap.
Apr 17 2022Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Curt Casali will get the nod behind the dish as the Giants and Guardians wrap up their series with a matinee game. Bart started at either catcher or designated hitter in each of the Giants' last five games, going 5-for-17 with a home run, a double, a stolen base, three RBI and an additional run.
Apr 15 2022Bart went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 4-1 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart added a pair of insurance runs with his two-run shot off Anthony Castro in the eighth inning. It was his second home run of the year and he's now slashing .333/.455/.722 through 22 plate appearances. Bart has yet to hit above seventh in the lineup this season but that could change soon if his bat stays hot.
Apr 10 2022Bart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will receive Sunday off after starting the first two games of the season and going 1-for-5 with a solo homer, two walks and an additional run scored. Curt Casali will work behind the plate in his place.
Apr 8 2022Bart went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting the start behind the plate in the Giants' opener and hitting ninth, Bart launched a Sandy Alcantara offering to deep left-center field in the fifth inning. Buster Posey's heir apparent has big cleats to fill this season, but he at least figures to supply solid power numbers after slugging 10 homers and posting an .838 OPS over 67 games for Triple-A Sacramento last year.
Mar 15 2022Bart and Curt Casali will open the 2022 season in a timeshare at catcher, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart, the second overall pick from 2018, will get his first extended look in the majors after Buster Posey retired in the offseason. Bart played well with Triple-A Sacramento last season, slashing .298/.362/.476 with 10 home runs, 46 RBI and 37 runs scored in 67 games. Casali will cut into Bart's playing time early in the season, but a strong start to the season could give the latter an edge for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart.
Jul 12 2021Bart was optioned back to Triple-A Sacramento following Sunday's win over Washington, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was brought up to the 26-man roster Saturday and notched two singles, one RBI and a run scored in Saturday's win. He'll now continue to get reps in Sacramento while the big club is on the All-Star break. It's possible that the backstop rejoins the 26-man roster for Friday's game against the Cardinals, but that decision will likely depend on whether Buster Posey (thumb) is ready to be activated from the injured list.
Jul 10 2021Bart was recalled by the Giants on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will give the Giants an extra catcher for the final two days before the break after Buster Posey (thumb) hit the injured list Thursday. He's swung a hot bat in 35 games for Triple-A Sacramento, homering eight times while slashing .338/.400/.581. He'll head straight into the starting lineup, catching and batting seventh against the Nationals. Logan Webb was optioned in a corresponding move.
Jul 9 2021Manager Gabe Kapler announced Friday that Bart (foot) has joined the Giants' taxi squad and could be an option to be activated over the weekend, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Curt Casali and Chadwick Tromp both on the 26-man roster, Bart isn't immediately needed following Buster Posey's (thumb) Friday placement on the injured list. Nonetheless, Kapler's update indicates that Bart has gotten past the foot injury he suffered last week, as he represents an option to join the roster at some point during the series against Washington.
May 21 2021Bart came out of Thursday's game for Triple-A Richmond due to groin tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was removed as a precaution. The 24-year-old backstop is hitting .351/.400/.676 with three home runs and a 30 percent strikeout rate in 11 games at Triple-A.
May 5 2021Bart was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento after Wednesday's loss to the Rockies, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was promoted Tuesday and made an appearance as a pinch hitter, but he'll head to the minors with the Triple-A season set to begin Thursday. Bart should be at the regular starter behind the plate for Sacramento this season.
May 4 2021Bart was recalled by the Giants on Tuesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart's stay on the big-league roster may be temporary, as he'll be filling the roster spot that had belonged to Kevin Gausman, who isn't expected to miss much time while recovering from the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. It's possible he'll stick around as Buster Posey's backup, but it's unclear why the Giants would abandon their plan to give Bart regular at-bats in the minors right as the minor-league seasons are beginning.
Mar 15 2021The Giants optioned Bart to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Due to the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league campaign along with Buster Posey's decision to opt out, Bart received his first taste of the big leagues last season, despite having only 22 games' worth of experience above the High-A level. The 24-year-old put together a few quality games to begin his major-league career, but he slumped badly in September to finish with a .233/.288/.320 slash line and 36.9 K% over 111 plate appearances. With Posey back in the fold, Bart will get some more development time in the minors to begin 2021, but he'll likely get another trial with the Giants at some point during the season.
Mar 13 2021Bart is 6-for-13 with one home run, three runs scored, two RBI, two walks and two stolen bases through seven spring training games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the 24-year-old's third year in big-league camp with the Giants, and he's impressed at the plate each year. Bart made the jump to the majors last season and struggled with a .608 OPS and 36.9 percent strikeout rate, but he should be headed to Triple-A for 2021 to continue his progression. Buster Posey is back as the starter after opting out in 2020, and Curt Casali signed over the offseason to likely operate as the primary backup catcher.
Jan 4 2021Bart is expected to open the year in the minors after the Giants signed Curt Casali to a major-league deal Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 2018 second-overall pick got called up ahead of schedule last year due to Buster Posey's opt out, but he didn't exactly prove to be big-league ready, hitting .233/.288/.320 a 36.9 percent strikeout rate and a 2.7 percent walk rate in 33 games. The acquisition of Casali means the Giants now have a veteran backup for Posey, allowing Bart to finish his development in the minors before pushing for his second chance at the highest level.
Dec 16 2020Bart will likely begin the upcoming season as the Giants' No. 2 catcher after manager Gabe Kapler said Tuesday that Buster Posey would receive "the lion's share of the reps" behind the plate in 2021, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Posey's decision to opt out of the 2020 campaign during summer camp may have had a hand in Bart -- the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft -- receiving the call to the big leagues last summer, despite having only appeared in 22 games above the High-A level. After a strong start at the dish following his promotion, Bart slumped in September to finish with an underwhelming .233/.288/.320 slash line over his 111 plate appearances. The Giants still view the 24-year-old as their backstop of the future, so look for the organization to do whatever it can to make room for Bart to make more starts than the typical backup catcher. The lack of a universal designated hitter in 2021 limits the Giants' options, but Posey's ability to play first base at least offers one avenue for both Bart and the 2012 NL MVP to stick in the lineup simultaneously.
Sep 26 2020Bart isn't in Saturday's lineup against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will get a breather after recording hits in four of the last five contests. Tyler Heineman will start behind the dish as Johnny Cueto is expected to take the mound for the Giants on Saturday.
Sep 21 2020Bart will bat eighth and catch Monday night against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart was initially slated for a night off, but the Giants have tweaked their lineup prior to first pitch. The backstop is hitting .292/.333/.333 with a triple and four RBI through 15 games in September.
Sep 20 2020Bart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle suggests it could end up being a two-day break for Bart, with Johnny Cueto slated to start Monday's opener against Colorado. Bart, like all young players, will need to make some adjustments; he is just 2-for-his-last-19 and is batting .241/.302/.304 through 86 plate appearances.
Sep 13 2020Bart is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Padres, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will head to the bench after starting the previous four games and going 4-for-14 during that stretch. Chadwick Tromp will catch for Johhny Cueto for the right-hander's third straight start.
Sep 11 2020Bart is out of the lineup Friday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the past four games and will take a seat after going 4-for-14 with three runs, one RBI and seven strikeouts during that stretch. Chadwick Tromp will serve as the catcher for Johnny Cueto for the third straight outing.
Sep 6 2020Bart is not in Sunday's lineup against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the first two games of the team's weekend series and has come alive with the bat of late, collecting eight hits in his last 17 at-bats. However, he'll retreat to the bench for the finale, with Chadwick Tromp taking over behind the plate and batting ninth.
Sep 2 2020Bart went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in Tuesday's 23-5 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart also reached base a fourth time when he was hit by a pitch. After recording exactly one hit in each of his first four MLB games, Bart had fallen into a 1-for-19 slump before breaking out Tuesday along with a number of teammates, as San Francisco's 27 hits were the most by an NL team since 1999.
Aug 30 2020Bart is not in the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart started the past six games and will receive a day off while mired in a 1-for-18 slump. Chadwick Tromp will catch Johnny Cueto in the series finale for the Giants.
Aug 22 2020Bart will head to the bench Saturday after starting in back-to-back games following his Thursday promotion, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bart will head to the bench after going 2-for-7 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI in his first two starts. Chadwick Tromp will get the nod behind the plate in favor of Bart on Saturday.
Aug 20 2020The Giants called up Bart from their alternate training site ahead of Thursday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft and one of the top catching prospects in all of baseball, Bart will make the jump to the majors with less than 100 plate appearances of Double-A experience under his belt. Despite his lack of high-level experience, the 23-year-old should prove to be an immediate upgrade over the Giants' current backstop tandem of Chadwick Tromp (.521 OPS) and Tyler Heineman (.503 OPS). Expect Bart to immediately settle into an everyday role behind the dish with San Francisco, and the Giants could look to keep his bat in the lineup by deploying him as a designated hitter on his non-catching days. Bart slashed .284/.343/.542 with 29 home runs in 130 games over his two seasons in the minors.
Jul 30 2020Bart has been taking grounders at first base at the alternate training site and could be called up Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since the threshold for accruing service time has passed for this season, Bart wouldn't accrue a year of service if he's called up this weekend. The Giants have said in the past that they want Bart to learn another defensive versatility before joining the major-league roster, and he's been able to work at first base with the club in West Sacramento. With no minor-league games this season, the 23-year-old's presence on the 30-man roster could allow him to continue developing in live games during the 2020 season.
Aug 8 2019Bart was promoted to Double-A Richmond on Thursday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Jul 5 2018Bart started at catcher and went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI for short-season Salem-Keizer in its 15-1 win Wednesday over Hillsboro.Making his Northwest League debut, Bart didn't take long to get comfortable with his new squad. Bart, who batted .261/.320/.391 in six games with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona League affiliate before getting the call to short-season ball, isn't expected to face much of a challenge from opposing pitchers until he heads to a full-season affiliate. The 21-year-old possesses plus raw power and should be a capable home-run producer from the catcher spot once he reaches the big leagues, but he's unlikely to be much more than a neutral asset in batting average.
Jun 4 2018The Giants have selected Bart with the second overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft.Bart joins Jason Varitek and Matt Wieters as Georgia Tech catchers selected in the first round, and he has the talent to wind up being the best overall player of the trio. At 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, he really looks the part behind the plate, and evaluators find very little to complain about with him on that side of the ball -- he even calls his own games, which is rare for a college catcher. It's easy to overlook the defensive part of the scouting report when analyzing prospects for fantasy purposes, but it's really important that catching prospects have the arm, game-calling and framing chops to stick, otherwise they don't get the at-bats to matter, or end up at first base or designated hitter, where the bat is usually too light. Bart checks all those necessary boxes, immediately making him one of the top catching prospects in the game. At the plate, he is power over hit, but the offensive profile is still good enough to be above average for his position. He is hitting .359/.471/.632 with 16 home runs and a 56:41 K:BB through 220 at-bats in his junior season with the Yellow Jackets. His plus raw power has made him a relevant prospect since his prep days, but he figures to swing and miss a lot in pro ball, and it should be seen as a win if he is a .250 hitter in the majors.
