Jun 25 2025Singer (7-6) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with nine strikeouts over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer allowed runs in three separate innings but managed a season-high nine strikeouts in a losing effort. It was the first time in eight starts that the 28-year-old surrendered more than three earned runs, though he's issued at least three walks in six of those outings. He'll carry a 4.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 76:36 K:BB across 85.2 innings into a road matchup with the Red Sox next week.
Jun 20 2025Singer (7-5) took the loss Friday against the Cardinals, giving up one run on four hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer tallied his most strikeouts since his fifth start of the season. The veteran right-hander has now worked at least five innings in seven consecutive outings, and Friday marked the sixth time in 15 appearances this year that he's thrown at least six frames while yielding two runs or fewer. Singer has a 3.23 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 28:18 K:BB across his last seven starts (39 innings), and he's set to draw a difficult assignment at home versus the Yankees his next time out.
Jun 14 2025Singer (7-4) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over six innings in an 11-1 rout of the Tigers. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander delivered his fifth quality start of the season on 96 pitches (56 strikes), and a six-run fifth inning by Cincinnati gave Singer all the run support he wound need. He's given up three runs or fewer in six straight outings, posting a 3.55 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 21:17 K:BB over 33 innings during that stretch. Singer will look to build on this performance in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in St. Louis.
Jun 8 2025Singer did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer gave up runs in the second and third innings before exiting in a 2-2 tie after just 77 pitches. According to Jeff Wallner of MLB.com, the 28-year-old was pulled after being struck on his throwing arm by a line drive in the fourth, though Singer downplayed the move as precautionary. He'll carry a 4.59 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 56:29 K:BB across 68.2 innings into a road matchup with the Tigers next weekend.
Jun 2 2025Singer (6-4) took the loss Monday against the Brewers after allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It wasn't the most efficient outing by Singer, who needed 97 pitches to cover five innings while issuing at least three walks for the third time in his past four starts. The veteran right-hander hasn't fanned more than four in any of his last seven appearances, during which he owns a lackluster 5.45 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 21:17 K:BB over 36.1 innings. Things won't get much easier for Singer in his next scheduled start versus the Diamondbacks, who sport a .799 OPS against right-handed pitching for the season.
May 28 2025Singer (6-3) got the win Tuesday over the Royals, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals picked up a pair of runs in the second inning against Singer but he otherwise shut down his former club while reaching seven innings for the first time since his season debut. None of the hits Singer allowed went for extra bases and it was his second consecutive outing not allowing a home run. However, Singer has not had more than four strikeouts in an outing since April 23 and has a 17:14 K:BB over his last six starts. He'll look to make it two wins in a row when the Brewers come to town to begin next week.
May 21 2025Singer (5-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the Reds were downed 3-1 by the Pirates. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cincinnati's hitters only managed four hits on the afternoon, giving Singer no margin for error, but the right-hander didn't help himself by throwing just 57 of 102 pitches for strikes. The four free passes were a season high, but he's issued multiple walks in four of his last five starts, posting a 6.29 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 14:13 K:BB over 24.1 innings during that stretch. Singer will try to get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against Kansas City -- the team he spent the first five seasons of his career with before being traded for Jonathan India in November.
May 17 2025Singer (5-2) earned the win in Friday's victory over Cleveland, giving up three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four batters across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cincinnati's offense gave Singer a 5-0 lead to work with after three innings Friday, and although he gave up a two-RBI single to Carlos Santana in the fourth and a solo homer to Bo Naylor in the fifth, the 28-year-old right-hander did enough to keep the Reds in front. With a 5.01 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through his first nine starts, Singer isn't quite the most reliable starter in the majors, but he'll at least have a favorable matchup during his next outing in Pittsburgh.
May 10 2025Singer did not factor into the decision against the Astros on Saturday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out one batter across 2.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It took some time for Singer to take the mound Saturday after the Reds racked up 10 runs in the top of the first inning. However, that commanding lead was short lived as he proceeded to yield six runs in the third frame, highlighted by a Victor Caratini two-run homer that lead to Singer being lifted for Lyon Richardson. It ended Singer's streak of six-inning outings at three, and his ERA ballooned from 3.66 to 4.97 following Saturday's start. He's slated to face the Guardians at home next weekend, when he'll look to get back in the win column.
May 5 2025Singer (4-2) took the loss Monday at Atlanta, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cincinnati right-hander generated just three whiffs in this 102-pitch outing, as he notched a season-low two Ks. Singer coughed up all four runs in the third inning, capped by a Matt Olson inside-the-park home run. Through 39.1 innings, Singer has pitched to a 3.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 38:14 K:BB. The 28-year-old is currently scheduled to make his next start at Houston this weekend.
Apr 30 2025Singer (4-1) took the loss in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Reds gave him no run support in a 6-0 loss, and Singer tossed only 46 of 92 pitches for strikes, but he still came away with his third quality start of the season. The right-hander has looked very good to begin his tenure in Cincinnati, posting a 3.24 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB through 33.1 innings. Singer will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Atlanta.
Apr 17 2025Singer did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Mariners, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer delivered three scoreless innings before Luke Raley tied the game with a two-run homer in the fourth. He'd give up two more unearned runs in the fifth before departing the game with just one out. Singer would ultimately settle for a no-decision, ending his season-opening win streak at three. The right-hander will carry a 3.38 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB into his next outing, currently slated for next week in Miami.
Apr 11 2025Singer (3-0) earned the win against Pittsburgh on Friday, giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer took a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning Friday, but after giving up a walk, a double and an Adam Frazier home run in consecutive plate appearances, that lead was quickly cut down to 5-3. He escaped the inning without conceding any more damage, allowing him to qualify for his third win in as many starts to begin the year. He'll carry a 3.18 ERA and 1.06 WHIP into his next start against the Mariners at home.
Apr 5 2025Singer (2-0) earned the win Saturday over the Brewers, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer held Milwaukee scoreless through three innings before coughing up five runs in his final two frames. However, the Reds' offense provided more than enough run support in an eventual 11-7 victory. The 28-year-old Singer has won his first two starts with Cincinnati, allowing three earned runs while striking out 15 through 12 innings. He's currently lined up to face the Pirates at home in his next outing.
Mar 31 2025Singer (1-0) yielded a hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings Monday, striking out eight and earning a win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was terrific in his Reds debut, tossing 57 of his 92 pitches for strikes and generating 15 whiffs despite averaging just 91 mph on his fastball. He allowed just one Ranger to reach scoring position and never faced much of a threat in the dominant outing. Singer has delivered mixed results in his MLB career, but he turned in a solid 3.71 ERA over 179.2 regular-season frames in 2024. He followed that up with a 2.55 ERA and a 21:7 K:BB through 17.2 innings this spring. Singer's next start is projected to be in Milwaukee this weekend.
Mar 17 2025Singer allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out five over 4.1 innings in Sunday's spring start against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer did not allow a run over the first four innings before being nicked for a home run to lead off the fifth frame. A couple more batters reached base following the homer, and the right-hander was pulled after working his pitch count to 78 in his fourth spring outing. Singer's had a strong Cactus League, recording a 2.25 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 12 innings.
Mar 2 2025Singer allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 1.2 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had a largely uneventful first inning, working around a one-out double, but faced adversity during his second frame. The right-hander left some balls up in the zone early and eventually began falling behind and walking batters before being removed with his pitch count at 42 (26 strikes). Despite the rough outing, Singer is on schedule and is expected to shoot for three innings/60 pitches his next time out.
Feb 25 2025Singer allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four over two scoreless innings in Monday's spring game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer, who was acquired during the offseason in the trade that sent Jonathan India to the Royals, made his debut for the Reds. The right-hander threw 33 pitches (23 strikes) and worked out of a second-inning jam, inducing a double play with one out and two on.
Jan 9 2025Singer and the Reds avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $8.75 million contract, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer will get a $3.9 million raise in 2025 after he submitted a 3.71 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 170:54 K:BB across 179.2 regular-season innings with the Royals last season before being dealt to the Reds in November. The right-hander made up for a so-so 22.3 percent strikeout rate by generating ground balls at a steady clip (47.1 percent), and his ability to mitigate damage on flyballs may help him stave off a dramatic increase in his ERA as he moves to a more hitter-friendly environment in Great American Ball Park in 2025.
Nov 22 2024The Royals traded Singer to the Reds on Friday in exchange for Jonathan India and Joey Wiemer. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After posting a 5.52 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 2023, Singer bounced back nicely with a 3.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP to go along with a 170:54 K:BB in 2024. Now in Cincinnati, the 28-year-old shouldn't have much trouble securing a spot in the Reds' starting rotation, which is currently headlined by Hunter Greene and Nick Martinez.
Sep 29 2024Singer will pitch out of the bullpen during the American League wild-card round, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer pitched a career-high 179.2 innings this year for Kansas City, logging a 3.71 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 170 strikeouts. Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha line up for Kansas City's starting rotation in the wild-card round.
Sep 27 2024Singer (9-13) took the loss Friday at Atlanta, pitching six innings while allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Kansas City righty received no support from his offense, as he turned in his 13th quality start of the season with this 98-pitch showing. Singer generated a solid 14 whiffs en route to his five punchouts with the only blemish on his evening being a two-run Sean Murphy homer in fourth. This performance was a nice high note for the 28-year-old to end the regular season on, as he had pitched to a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings across four previous September starts. Singer completes his fifth year with a 3.71 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 170:54 K:BB over 179.2 innings.
Sep 21 2024Singer (9-12) took the loss against the Giants on Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer surrendered a combined four home runs to LaMonte Wade and Matt Chapman. The 28-year-old has pitched at least five innings in each of his past 10 outings but has tallied just two wins while yielding four or more earned runs five times. On the season, he owns a 3.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 165:51 K:BB across 173.2 innings and lines up to face Atlanta in his final start of the campaign.
Sep 15 2024Singer (9-11) took the loss Sunday against Pittsburgh, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks across five innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's four walks marked a season high, and he failed to complete six innings for a third consecutive outing. The 27-year-old has a 5.40 ERA and a 1-5 record across his last eight starts (43.1 innings). Singer is tentatively scheduled to face the Giants in Kansas City next weekend.
Sep 9 2024Singer didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three runs attributed to Singer came in the fourth inning when Singer yielded a pair of hits -- including a two-run home run to Alex Verdugo -- and a walk. The start pushed Singer's season inning total to a career-high 163.1 and the right-hander holds a 3.42 ERA and a 153:46 K:BB. He's on track to face the Pirates in Pittsburgh this weekend.
Sep 3 2024Singer (9-10) took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against Cleveland. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Kansas City right-hander fell one out short of his 13th quality start in this 99-pitch outing. Singer held the Guardians lineup in check, allowing just one extra-base hit -- a Kyle Manzardo double in fourth -- as he lowered his post-All-Star break ERA to 3.64 across 54.1 innings with a 1.25 WHIP and 51:11 K:BB. Overall, the 28-year-old now sports a 3.35 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 150:43 K:BB in 158.1 total innings this season. He is scheduled to make his next start against the Yankees on the road next week.
Aug 30 2024Singer did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Astros on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings while striking out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer got off to a strong start, allowing just one hit over the first four innings while striking out five of the first 13 batters he faced. The Astros would finally get to him for two runs in the fifth, however, after the right-hander surrendered an infield single to Jeremy Pena with one out, followed by back-to-back doubles from Jon Singleton and Jason Heyward. Singer wouldn't get the win, but he was able to log his second quality start this month while posting at least six strikeouts for the fourth time in his last five outings. He'll look for better results in September after finishing the month of August with a 1-3 record and a 5.53 ERA.
Aug 24 2024Singer (9-9) allowed five runs on 11 hits and struck out five without walking a batter over five-plus innings, taking the loss versus the Phillies on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was okay through five innings, but he was on the hook for a J.T. Realmuto three-run home run in the sixth. Since the All-Star break, Singer has three scoreless outings, but he's given up three or more runs in his other four starts in that span. Overall, he's now at a 3.38 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 141:40 K:BB through 146.2 innings over 26 starts. Singer is projected to make his next start at Houston.
Aug 18 2024Singer (9-8) earned the win Sunday, allowing five hits and one walk over six scoreless innings against the Reds. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer, who also hit a batter in allowing seven total batters to reach base, only tossed one flawless inning but also only allowed one baserunner to make it past first base. He left the game with a four-run lead which was more than enough to grab his ninth win. This start comes on the heels of a three-game stretch in which he allowed 13 earned runs over 17.2 innings (6.62 ERA). However, those games came immediately following two consecutive games of seven innings and zero earned runs. It was Singer's 11th quality start this season, and he's pitched particularly well over his last 11 appearances, even including the aforementioned three-game blip, holding a 2.92 ERA over 64.2 innings during that stretch. His next start is tentatively slated to take place at home against the visiting Phillies.
Aug 12 2024Singer (8-8) took the loss Monday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against Minnesota. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite notching nine or more punchouts for the third time this season and allowing his first homer since the All-Star break, Kansas City right-hander was saddled with his second straight loss. Singer coughed up all six runs in a rough second inning that saw both Willi Castro and Royce Lewis launch homers. Overall, the 28-year-old now owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 130:39 K:BB across 135.2 innings this season. He lines up to face the Reds in Cincinnati in his next start this weekend.
Aug 5 2024Singer (8-7) took the loss against Boston on Monday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer wasn't exactly hit hard in the outing -- nine of the 10 knocks against him were singles -- but he didn't retire the side in order in any of the frames in which he pitched. The right-hander still managed to depart with two outs in the sixth inning having given up just two runs, but reliever Angel Zerpa subsequently allowed both of the runners he inherited from Singer to score. As a result, Singer took his first loss of the second half. Coming into Monday, he had tallied three straight wins while tossing a seven-inning quality start in each of those victories.
Jul 31 2024Singer (8-6) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over seven innings in a 10-3 rout of the White Sox. He struck out four without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander gave up three straight hits to lead off the bottom of the second inning, with all three Chicago runners eventually coming around to score, but otherwise Singer held the opposition in check as he collected his third straight win and fourth in his last five outings. The 27-year-old has allowed three runs or less in eight of his last nine starts, posting a 2.33 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 43:15 K:BB through 54 innings over that stretch. Singer will look to extend his win streak in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come early next week at home against the Red Sox.
Jul 26 2024Singer (7-6) allowed two hits and two walks over seven shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer retired the first 11 batters he faced and was later able to work out of a few threats. In two starts since the All-Star break, he's fired 14 scoreless innings while recording 12 punchouts. He's allowed fewer than two runs in six of his last seven outings while registering a 1.76 ERA over that span. Singer now owns a strong 2.82 ERA with a 111:36 K:BB through 118 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the White Sox.
Jul 21 2024Singer (6-6) earned the win over the White Sox on Saturday, allowing five hits and issuing two walks while striking out seven batters over seven scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All five of Chicago's hits against Singer were singles, and he needed an efficient 93 pitches to get through seven frames. The right-hander has completed at least seven innings in three of his past five outings, and he has given up more than one run just once over his past six starts. Over that span, Singer has recorded a 2.12 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB across 34.0 innings.
Jul 14 2024Singer was saddled with the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over 2.2 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer couldn't quite put things together Sunday, allowing separate two-run homers in each of the first and second innings, then loaded the bases in the third prior to being pulled. It was the shortest outing of the season for Singer, who entered the contest having allowed only one earned run during each of his previous four starts. He enters the All-Star break ranked 10th in the majors with a 3.20 ERA to go along with a 1.23 WHIP and 99 strikeouts over 19 starts, spanning 104 innings.
Jul 8 2024Singer (5-5) picked up the win Sunday against Colorado, allowing one run on six hits and two walks across seven innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer picked up his first win since May 19 and was able to minimize the impacts of Coors Field, allowing no extra-base hits in seven innings of work. Although Singer's efforts haven't resulted in wins, he's allowed less than three earned runs in seven of his last nine starts and has logged a quality start in three of his last five outings. Through 101.1 innings, Singer owns a 2.93 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He's in line for one more start before the All-Star break, which is scheduled to come during a weekend series in Boston.
Jul 3 2024Singer (4-5) was saddled with the loss Tuesday versus Tampa Bay, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four batters in five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was able to keep the Rays' bats relatively quiet Tuesday, as the only run scored against him came as a result of a wild pitch in the second inning. However, a lack of run support from his offense combined with a collapse of Kansas City's bullpen following a lengthy rain delay will cause the 27-year-old righty to take his third loss in five starts. Singer remains without a win since May 19, but he'll have a good opportunity to get back in the win column over the weekend when he faces Colorado.
Jun 26 2024Singer came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander delivered his sixth quality start of the season on 92 pitches (63 strikes) and completed seven innings for the first time since his first outing of the year, March 31 against the Twins. Despite the impressive performance, Singer left the mound in line for his fifth loss before the Royals' offense woke up in the bottom of the eighth inning. He'll take a 3.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 85:26 K:BB through 89.1 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Rays.
Jun 21 2024Singer yielded a run on three hits and two walks over five innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during the loss to Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer turned in three scoreless frames before Wyatt Langford knocked an RBI double in the fourth inning. It was the only damage against Singer through five innings, but the Royals bullpen would go on to allow five runs in the sixth and cost him a win. It was his first start without allowing a homer since May 19; in his previous four outings, he was taken deep six times, resulting in a 5.31 ERA. Singer lowered his season ERA to 3.29 with an 80:25 K:BB through 82 frames. He's currently in line for a home start against the Marlins next week.
Jun 16 2024Singer (4-4) took the loss Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three runs charged to Singer came via home run, with Shohei Ohtani slugging a solo shot in the third inning and going back-to-back with Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning. Sunday's start was Singer's first allowing multiple home runs and was his second time in seven appearances completing six innings. Through 14 outings, Singer owns a 3.39 ERA and a 76:23 K:BB across 77 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Rangers in Arlington next weekend.
Jun 11 2024Singer (4-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and a walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was in trouble from the start, allowing a triple to Anthony Volpe on just his second pitch of the day as part of a two-run first inning for the Yankees. Singer had more issues in the fourth, where Austin Wells launched a three-run home run to plate Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres to give New York a 6-0 lead. The 27-year-old's seven runs allowed marked a season high and he failed to complete six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts. He'll have another tough draw for his next start, with a road matchup with Dodgers set for Sunday.
Jun 6 2024Singer didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's final line could've been much worse, as matched a season high with nine hits allowed while failing to make it through four innings. Prior to Thursday, Singer hadn't allowed more than one earned run in five of his last six outings. Overall, the 27-year-old right-hander is 4-2 on the year with a 2.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 66:20 K:BB across 12 starts (65.1 innings) this season. Singer's currently in line for a home matchup with the Yankees in his next start.
Jun 5 2024Singer and the Royals won't play the Guardians on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals and Guardians will make up the postponed game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 26 After missing his previous turn through the rotation last Thursday due to an illness, Singer was cleared to start Wednesday, but he looks like he'll have to wait until Thursday's series finale with the Guardians to make his return to the rotation.
Jun 2 2024Singer (illness) is listed as the Royals' probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer looks to be in the clear on the health front after an unspecified illness left him feeling lethargic and unable to play catch Wednesday before the Royals opted to scratch him from his scheduled start Thursday against the Twins, according to ESPN.com. He apparently demonstrated enough progress over the weekend and shouldn't face any major workload restrictions when he takes the hill Wednesday. Through 11 starts this season, Singer has gone 4-2 with a 2.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 64:19 across 61.2 innings.
Jun 1 2024Singer (illness) is feeling better but still needs a few days to recover strength, potentially slotting in to start Wednesday in Cleveland according to manager Matt Quatraro, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was scratched from his last scheduled start Thursday versus the Twins due to an illness, but he now appears to be on track to return to the mound relatively soon. The right-hander is in the midst of a career year with Kansas City, producing a 2.63 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 64 strikeouts over 61.2 innings in his first 11 starts of 2024.
May 30 2024Singer has been scratched from Thursday's scheduled start against the Twins due to illness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Daniel Lynch was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and will start Thursday in Singer's place. It's possible Singer will be ready to make a start in the coming days, though it will depend on how he bounces back from the illness. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.
May 25 2024Singer allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Rays on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, but Singer gave it back before his exit. The right-hander threw 57 of 90 pitches for strikes in a decent outing. He's been sharp this season, allowing one earned run or less in eight of his 11 starts to accumulate a 2.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB through 61.2 innings. Singer's next start is projected to be at Minnesota.
May 19 2024Singer (4-2) allowed a run on six hits and a walk over six innings Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aside from an RBI double by Tyler Soderstrom in the fourth inning, Oakland had nothing going against Singer. Out of 10 starts this season, Singer has allowed two or fewer runs in eight of them. He posted a disappointing 5.52 ERA through 159.2 innings last season but has taken a massive step forward in 2024. Singer lowered his ERA to 2.70 with a 61:17 K:BB through 56.2 innings. His next start is lined up to be in Tampa Bay next weekend.
May 13 2024Singer (3-2) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six batters over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer came into Monday having allowed exactly one run in three straight starts, but he couldn't keep that momentum going. The right-hander yielded four runs across the second and third frames, marking just the second time this season he's given up that many runs over an entire game. Singer still has a strong 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through nine starts on the campaign, and he's tossed at least five frames in each of his outings thus far.
May 8 2024Singer (3-1) earned the win Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer tallied his first win in five starts, yielding one run for a third consecutive outing. He settled in nicely after allowing doubles to the first two batters he faced, keeping the Brewers off the scoreboard following the first frame. Singer has allowed more than two runs in just one start this season and owns a 2.36 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 45.2 innings. He's lined up for a start in Seattle on Monday.
May 4 2024Singer took a no-decision Friday against the Rangers after allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out eight batters through six innings. He did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Singer turned in yet another strong outing Friday, his contributions went unrewarded as the Royals were unable to take the lead until after the 27-year-old was removed from the game, giving the win to John Schreiber instead. Singer didn't get the win, but his 2.45 ERA and 42 strikeouts through 40.1 innings on the season still give fantasy managers plenty of reason to be pleased with his performance to begin the year.
Apr 28 2024Singer didn't factor in the decision Saturday at Detroit after he allowed one run on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander gave up a run on a walk and a triple during the second inning but blanked the Tigers in his other four frames. Despite the strong run prevention, it was the third straight start with three walks for Singer, who generated just eight swings-and-misses Saturday. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong first month of the season with a 2.62 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB across 34.1 innings.
Apr 22 2024Singer (2-1) allowed five runs on five hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out five and taking a loss against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After giving up just four runs through his first four starts, Singer stumbled Monday and found himself in the loss column for the first time. He allowed a three-run double to Bo Bichette in the third inning and a two-run shot to Daulton Varsho in the sixth. After fanning 10 batters in his season debut, Singer has produced a lackluster 18:9 K:BB over his last 22.1 frames. Still, he'll carry a 2.76 ERA into his next start, which is projected to be in Detroit this weekend.
Apr 17 2024Singer did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All of the damage against Singer came on Paul DeJong's two-run homer in the second inning. The right-hander hadn't given up more than a single run in three starts prior to Wednesday -- Singer's now allowed four runs in 23.1 innings this season, all coming via the home-run ball. Overall, he's 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB. Singer's next start is tentatively scheduled for early next week against Toronto.
Apr 16 2024Singer and the Royals won't play the White Sox on Tuesday since the game was postponed due to rain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game will be made up via a straight doubleheader Wednesday, and Singer is slated to start the first of the two contests. The right-hander is off to a strong start this season with a 0.98 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB across 18.1 innings.
Apr 11 2024Singer (2-0) earned the win over the Astros on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A Yainer Diaz home run in the fourth inning was the lone mark against Singer on Thursday. The 27-year-old right-hander has allowed just two runs through his first three starts (18.1 innings) this season, lowering his ERA to a pristine 0.98 with a 0.76 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB. Singer looks to be back on track after a tough 2023 campaign, where he went 8-11 with a 5.52 ERA. He's tentatively lined up for a road matchup with the White Sox in his next outing.
Apr 5 2024Singer did not factor into the decision Friday against the White Sox, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer continued his resurgent 2024 campaign with another solid performance Friday night. The only blemish during his outing was a solo homer yielded to Gavin Sheets in the second inning. Singer faces a more difficult test than the White Sox in his next start, currently scheduled to be at home against the Astros.
Mar 31 2024Singer (1-0) earned the win after he pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters in Sunday's 11-0 victory over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was in full command in his season debut, throwing 64 of his 98 total pitches for strikes while matching his 2023 season-high 10 punchouts. The right-hander has shown flashes throughout his first four major-league campaigns and is off to a great start in 2024. He's tentatively set to return to the mound Friday at home versus the White Sox.
Feb 29 2024Singer plans to utilize a four-seam fastball and sweeper more often this season, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer began implementing the pitches a little late last season after some initial hesitation. This season, though, he's committed to using them as integral parts of his repertoire, adding them to his sinker, gyro slider and changeup. All three swinging strikeouts he induced during his Cactus League debut Wednesday versus the Mariners came on the sweeper. Singer has predominantly been a two-pitch pitcher in his career (the sinker and slider) and has struggled to miss bats with consistency. Perhaps the four-seamer and sweeper will allow him to pile up more strikeouts.
Feb 21 2024Singer (back) will make his Cactus League debut Feb. 28 versus the Mariners, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer ended last season on the shelf with a back strain, but he doesn't seem to be under any restrictions this spring. The right-hander is coming off an uneven 2023 campaign, having finished with a 5.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 133:49 K:BB in 159.2 frames covering 29 starts.
Jan 11 2024Singer (back) agreed to a one-year contract with the Royals on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He finished last season on the shelf with a back strain after logging a 5.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 133 strikeouts in 159.2 innings. Singer's 2022 season looks like an outlier at this point, but he should be locked into a rotation role for Kansas City again in 2024.
Sep 19 2023Singer was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left lower lumbar strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander presumably picked up the injury during Monday's start against Cleveland, during which he gave up four runs over six innings. Singer had a strong six-week stretch from late June to mid-August with a 3.05 ERA across 59 innings, but he moves to the injured list having surrendered 24 earned runs in his past five starts. The 27-year-old won't be eligible to return until after the end of the regular season, and he closes the campaign with a 5.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 133:49 K:BB in 159.2 frames. Singer is entering his second year of arbitration eligibility and has more than four months to get healthy for spring training.
Sep 18 2023Singer did not factor into the decision in Monday's win over Cleveland, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's start on Monday marked the fifth straight in which he allowed four or more runs, dating back to Aug. 19. During those outings, the 27-year-old has thrown 24 innings to the tune of a 9.00 ERA, 2.17 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB. The nightmare season has continued for Singer, who sports a 5.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 133 strikeouts over 159.2 innings. Things don't get easier for his next start as he's scheduled to pitch at Houston.
Sep 12 2023Singer (8-11) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in a 6-2 loss against the White Sox. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer would ultimately settle down after giving up five runs in the opening inning, but the Royals couldn't overcome the early deficit, leaving Singer with his third loss in his last four starts. The 27-year-old right-hander has allowed four runs or more in each of his previous four outings, raising his ERA to 5.51 with a 1.44 WHIP and 129:47 K:BB through 28 starts (153.2 innings) this season. Singer's currently in line for a tough home matchup with the Royals in his next outing.
Sep 11 2023Singer will not make his scheduled start Monday against the White Sox with the contest being postponed due to rain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer will have to wait a little longer than anticipated to take the mound, but not much, as he is scheduled to start the first game of the twin bill the Royals and White Sox will play Tuesday. Unless he gets an extra day of rest between starts, he will still get two starts during the current scoring period.
Sep 5 2023Singer did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk over five innings against the White Sox. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer surrendered six runs for the second time in his last three starts Tuesday, with each run coming as result of a homer. On the day, the White Sox took Singer yard three times, with Yoan Moncada, Korey Lee and Andrew Vaughn each swatting long balls. Over his last three appearances (12.2 innings), Singer owns a 9.95 ERA and an 11:4 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with the White Sox early next week.
Sep 4 2023Singer (arm) was activated from the paternity list Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer is set to rejoin the Kansas City rotation Tuesday against the White Sox after having not pitched since Aug. 25 due to a bout with arm fatigue before he landed on the paternity list. The right-hander checked out fine following a bullpen session over the weekend and isn't expected to face any restrictions during his upcoming start. Singer has fared much better in the second half of the season, though he struggled in his last two starts (9.39 ERA, 2.74 WHIP) before going on paternity leave.
Sep 3 2023Singer (arm) remains on the paternity list but could be activated during the upcoming week to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals have already confirmed Cole Ragans and Jordan Lyles as their starters for their games Monday and Wednesday, respectively, making Tuesday the likely target for Singer's return to the rotation. Prior to being placed on the paternity list Friday, Singer hadn't pitched since Aug. 25 due to a bout of right arm fatigue, but he hasn't been shut down from throwing. Rogers notes that Singer was scheduled to complete a bullpen session Sunday, so assuming he checks one fine following the throwing workout, he should be ready to start Tuesday.
Sep 1 2023Kansas City placed Singer (arm) on the paternity leave list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It had already been announced that Singer would be skipped on his next turn through the Royals' rotation and now he can spend the time off with his growing family. The 27-year-old right-hander stands 8-10 with a 5.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 125:44 K:BB through 143.1 innings (26 starts) this season.
Aug 28 2023The Royals will skip Singer's upcoming turn through the rotation after he experienced "a velocity drop and some arm fatigue" following his most recent start this past Friday in Seattle, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had been in line to take the hill Wednesday versus the Pirates, but the Roayls will instead tab another pitcher to make a spot start while the right-hander appears set to rest up this week. Tests performed on Singer's arm revealed no issues, so he's expected to avoid a stint on the injured list and be good to go after some extended rest. The Royals are hoping the break will allow Singer to get back on track after he allowed eight earned runs over just 7.2 innings in his past two starts.
Aug 25 2023Singer (8-10) took the loss Friday versus the Mariners, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six over four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's first pitch was taken deep to right field by J.P. Crawford, and the right-hander labored through the first inning. He had a couple of scoreless frames before giving up a go-ahead two-run single to Eugenio Suarez in the fourth, which put the Mariners ahead for good. Singer has given up 10 runs (eight earned) over 7.2 innings across his last two starts, a departure from his relatively solid pitching (2.85 ERA, 39:6 K:BB) over 41 innings coming out of the All-Star break. For the year, he's at a 5.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 125:44 K:BB through 143.1 innings across 26 starts. Singer is tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Pirates next week.
Aug 20 2023Singer (8-9) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against the Cubs. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer didn't have his best stuff Saturday, allowing runs in each of the first four innings before being relieved by Tucker Davidson. The 27-year-old right-hander lasted just 3.2 innings, marking his shortest outing since May 22, while he also failed to record at least four strikeouts for the first time in his last seven starts. Singer had logged three quality starts in a row prior to Saturday's loss, which marked his third time allowing multiple home runs in a game this season.
Aug 14 2023Singer allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over 7.1 innings in Monday's win over Seattle. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer fired seven shutout frames but was charged with two runs after being pulled in the eighth inning. He's shown much better command recently; over his last five starts, Singer has recorded a 35:6 K:BB with a 2.45 ERA. However, his season ERA still sits at 4.91 through 135.2 frames. Singer's next outing is lined up to be against the Cubs in Chicago.
Aug 9 2023Singer (8-8) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was humming along until the fifth inning, when Adam Duvall launched a solo shot over the Green Monster in Boston, while Connor Wong later added a run-scoring single. Singer was removed with two outs in the seventh and a runner on, who eventually scored. After a challenging first half, the 27-year-old righty has figured it out in five starts since the All-Star break, posting a 2.94 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB across 33.2 innings during that stretch. He will look to maintain the momentum in his next outing, which is projected to be at home against Seattle early next week.
Aug 4 2023Singer (7-8) earned the win Thursday, allowing three hits and zero walks over eight scoreless innings in a 9-2 victory over the Mets. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander retired the last 11 batters he faced in the contest and has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in three consecutive outings, lowering his ERA on the season to 5.10. The three hits were also the fewest Singer has allowed since his first start of the year back on April 3.
Jul 28 2023Singer did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings against Minnesota. He struck out 10. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer has established a new season high in strikeouts in back-to-back outings, having fanned nine his last time. He has a 19:3 K:BB in his last two starts spanning 11 innings. While his season numbers are still entirely underwhelming (5.46 ERA, 1.46 WHIP), this recent jump in strikeouts makes him interesting where he's available. Singer was serviceable last year and is better than he's shown overall this season. The soon-to-be 27-year-old tentatively lines up for a home start against the Mets next week.
Jul 22 2023Singer did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings against the Yankees. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer got himself into trouble right out of the gate, walking Billy McKinney to lead off the bottom of the first and then giving up an infield single to Gleyber Torres in the following at-bat. The right-hander would allow only one run in the inning and another run in the third before finishing with a season-high nine strikeouts on the afternoon. He's now allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last five starts and has not issued more than one free pass in three straight.
Jul 16 2023Singer (6-8) got the win Sunday against the Rays, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four over eight innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was given an early lead and never looked back. He held the Rays scoreless through seven innings before four straight hits, including two home runs, to open up the eighth plated four runs. Overall, it was an efficient outing for Singer who needed just 92 pitches to record his third career start of eight innings or more. It was a great bounce back effort after he'd ended the first half on a sour note. He's working on a 5.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB in 102.2 innings this year and projects for a road start against the Yankees during the upcoming week.
Jul 8 2023Singer (5-8) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on 13 hits and one walk over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After allowing only one run over his last two starts (13 innings) Singer was lit up by Cleveland. He served up a season-high 13 hits while his six runs allowed marked the most since April 30. Since the start of June, Singer holds a 4.02 ERA and a 28:12 K:BB through seven appearances (40.1 innings).
Jul 3 2023Singer (5-7) earned the win over the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer dominated the Dodgers for his second straight quality start while allowing just one extra-base hit. He registered 14 whiffs on the day, though his strikeout numbers have been down in comparison to past years. Singer hasn't struck out more than five in a game since he had seven June 4. He currently stands at a 7.4 K/9 after averaging a strikeout per inning over his last two seasons. The 26-year-old has found something as of late and now owns a 5.52 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 74:34 K:BB in 89.2 innings. He lines up to face the Guardians on the road over the weekend.
Jun 27 2023Singer did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings against the Guardians. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer came out on the wrong end of a pitchers duel, tossing six scoreless frames despite the Royals taking a 2-1 loss. The start marked his second scoreless outing of the campaign, with the other coming on June 4 against the Rockies. However, he's struggled between the pair of scoreless appearances, going 0-3 with a 5.94 ERA and an 11:6 K:BB across his last three starts. He's in line to make his next appearance during a three-game homestand against the Dodgers this weekend.
Jun 21 2023Singer (4-7) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over seven innings against the Tigers. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After allowing eight runs over his last four starts (20.1 innings), Singer gave up five Wednesday, including a solo homer to Zack Short in the seventh. Though he went past the sixth inning for the first time all year, he was only able to punch out two batters, setting a season low in the category, while falling to his seventh loss. Through 15 starts (76.2 innings), Singer owns a 6.34 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and a 7.9 K/9.
Jun 17 2023Singer (4-6) took the loss Friday versus the Angels, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer wasn't all that effective, but the Royals' lack of offense didn't help his cause. He's failed to complete six innings in each of his last five starts, pitching to a 4.88 ERA over 24 innings in that span. That's actually an improvement on his season mark of 6.33, which comes with an uninspiring 1.61 WHIP and 65:28 K:BB over 69.2 innings across 14 starts. There aren't any better options knocking down the door, as the Royals' rotation owns a 5.44 ERA collectively this year, ranking 27th in the majors. Singer is projected for a road start in Detroit his next time out.
Jun 11 2023Singer (4-5) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against the Orioles. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was coming off the best outing of his season (5.2 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts versus Colorado), but he struggled to maintain that success Saturday. It was the seventh time this year that the 26-year-old has allowed at least four runs, and he boasts an ugly 6.58 ERA overall. It's been a disappointing start to 2023 for Singer, who finished last year with a 3.23 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 150:35 K:BB across 153.1 innings (all career-best marks). He has shown signs of finding his 2022 form, finishing at least five innings while giving up two or fewer runs six times, but there hasn't been any consistency from the right-hander yet.
Jun 5 2023Singer (4-4) shut out the Rockies over 5.2 innings Sunday, allowing just five hits and no walks while striking out seven to get the win. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer did not allow an extra base hit nor did he allow a single runner to get into scoring position. The 26-year-old did not walk a batter for the first time since April 25 and his seven strikeouts were his most in a start since April 14. Singer has allowed two earned runs or less in four of his last five starts and now sits at a 6.45 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 56:23 K:BB over 60 innings. He'll look to pick up another win in a tentative matchup against the Orioles next weekend.
May 28 2023Singer did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings during a 4-2 loss to Washington. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer tossed five shutout frames but was pulled with no outs in the sixth after allowing back-to-back hits to lead off the inning. It was a solid bounce-back performance for the right-hander, who served up five runs over 3.2 innings his last time out, but he is still struggling with walks and has allowed multiple free passes in each of his past six starts. During that stretch, Singer sports 7.57 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 25:17 K:BB over 27.1 innings. The Royals' ace issued 35 walks across 27 outings (153.1 innings) last year, but he already has 23 over 54.1 innings in 2023.
May 23 2023Singer didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 8-5 loss to the Tigers in 10 innings after allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had major problems with his control in the outing, throwing just 49 of 87 pitches for strikes and walking a season-high four batters. The right-hander allowed three first-inning runs and another pair in the third, and he departed with two outs in the fourth after issuing a free pass to the final batter he faced. Singer's ERA ballooned to 7.48 as a result of the rough outing, second worst among hurlers who have tossed at least 40 innings. This was certainly a step back after he posted a quality start in each of his previous two appearances.
May 16 2023Singer (3-4) earned the win Tuesday over the Padres, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals' defense let Singer down in the fifth inning, and he had some more trouble in the sixth. The bullpen was able to preserve a one-run lead over the last three frames to end his three-start winless skid. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 7.09 with a 1.53 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB through 45.2 innings over nine starts. Singer's very rarely been anywhere between excellent or awful this season, with this start being the most moderate of the bunch. He's projected for two starts next week, with the first likely at home against the Tigers.
May 11 2023Singer did not factor in the decision against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was in desperate need of a strong performance after allowing 13 runs across 6.2 innings over his previous two starts. He rebounded nicely against Chicago, notching his second quality start of the campaign. Singer wasn't overpowering, but he allowed just five hits and retired eight of the final nine batters he faced. The right-hander's ERA still sits at an unattractive 7.71, and it will likely take an extended stretch of positive outings for fantasy managers to regain confidence in him.
May 6 2023Singer (2-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over four innings in a 5-4 loss against the Athletics. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's rocky start to the season continued Saturday, giving up at least five runs for the fifth time in seven starts while taking his fourth loss in his last five appearances. Considering Singer owns an abysmal 8.82 ERA and 11:4 K/BB rate while the Royals score the fifth-fewest runs in MLB, Singer should remain a stay-away in most formats.
Apr 30 2023Singer (2-3) was handed the loss Sunday against the Twins after giving up eight runs on five hits and three walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out five in the effort. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer allowed a run in the second and then completely unraveled in the third. He actually wound up striking out two of the first three hitters he faced in the inning but could not get the final out. He walked two batters before Byron Buxton opened things up with a three-run blast to left. The next four batters would then reach on three base hits and a hit by pitch, tallying two more runs for the Twins. Singer was replaced by Josh Staumont with runners on first and third and was charged two more runs before Staumont could close the door on the inning. After Sunday's outing, Singer now leads the majors in giving up 56 hard-hit balls over just 29.2 innings. It's been a disappointing first month of the season for him, and he now sits at an 8.49 ERA, which is the worst among all qualified starting pitchers in baseball. The 26-year-old should have an opportunity to get back on track with a projected matchup against Oakland next weekend.
Apr 3 2023Singer (0-1) gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters in five innings Monday against the Blue Jays. He picked up the win. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer cruised to the win in his first start of the season, as his counterpart Jose Berrios coughed up eight runs in less than six frames. Singer was on his game, as he generated 61.5 percent groundballs in this one to help offset the lack of strikeouts. His second start of the week is scheduled for Saturday in San Francisco.
Mar 19 2023Singer gave up four runs on four hits over two innings in his lone appearance for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Fantasy managers should be concerned for a couple of reasons. One is that Singer has made just three competitive appearances between Cactus League and WBC play. He's also logged just 6.2 innings this spring, which leaves some doubts about how stretched out he'll be to begin the regular season. With Singer's poor performance on the international stage, his usage has been limited. He should be fine long-term, but with the USA making a deep run in the tournament, he'll likely get only one or two more outings in the Cactus League before the 2023 campaign gets underway.
Feb 16 2023Singer lost his arbitration hearing Wednesday and will be paid $2.95 million in 2023, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had requested $3.325 million. The right-hander broke out for the Royals in 2022, holding a 3.23 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 150:35 K:BB over 153.1 innings. He could serve as Kansas City's Opening Day starter in 2023, with veteran Zack Greinke also in the mix.
Sep 30 2022Singer (10-5) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer kept the Guardians off the board through four innings before coughing up an RBI single to Will Brennan in the fifth frame. Cleveland then piled on five runs in the sixth, including Jose Ramirez's three-run shot. Singer had won six straight decisions dating back to Aug. 9 before Friday's rough outing; he posted a 1.89 ERA and a 50:12 K:BB during that stretch. The 26-year-old righty finishes the 2022 campaign with a 3.23 ERA and a 150:35 K:BB through 153.1 innings.
Sep 24 2022Singer (10-4) gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings to earn the win in a 5-1 victory over Mariners on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer handled the Mariners with ease, with the only damage coming on a solo home run off the bat of Cal Raleigh in the second inning. Singer has put together a breakout campaign in his second full season starting in the majors. The 26-year-old right-hander now has a 2.99 ERA in 147.2 innings pitched. His xFIP of 3.31 coming into the game suggests that his success could be sustainable going forward. Singer will look for his 11th win of the year his next time out, which is expected to be at Cleveland.
Sep 24 2022Singer (10-4) gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings to earn the win in a 5-1 victory over Mariners on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer handled the Mariners with ease, with the only damage coming on a solo home run off the bat of Cal Raleigh in the second. Singer has put together a breakout campaign in his second full season starting in the majors. The 26-year-old right-hander now has an ERA under 3.00 in 147.2 innings pitched. His xFIP of 3.31 coming into the game suggests that his success could be sustainable going forward. Singer will look for his 11th win of the year his next expected time out at Cleveland.
Sep 18 2022Singer (9-4) earned the win Saturday, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer continued his career year by tossing 59 of 89 pitches for strikes across six frames and not allowing a run to score despite allowing five hits and a walk. The righty has three quality starts and two wins in a row. Since Aug. 3, Singer has gone 5-1 and given up 15 earned runs in 56 innings for a 2.41 ERA, picking up seven quality starts along the way. His season ERA now sits at 3.07.
Sep 11 2022Singer (8-4) earned the victory Sunday over Detroit, striking out six in seven scoreless innings while allowing four hits and a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Three of the five baserunners Singer allowed reached in the first two innings but he settled down and scattered two hits over his final five frames, retiring 10 straight at one point. It was the seventh time in his last 11 starts that he allowed one or fewer runs and pitched at least six innings. During that span, he's gone 5-1 and compiled a 2.21 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB in 69 innings. His next start will likely be next weekend in Boston.
Sep 5 2022Singer allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with just one strikeout in six innings versus the Guardians on Monday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer allowed a pair of runs in both the second and sixth innings, and he left the contest in line for a loss. The Royals rallied to tie the game in the eighth to get the right-hander off the hook. He met the baseline for a quality start, his fifth in his last six outings, and he hasn't taken a loss in that span. Singer owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 125:30 K:BB through 23 appearances (20 starts) this year while serving as the Royals' most reliable starter.
Aug 31 2022Singer gave up four earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a 9-7 victory over the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's stretch of four straight quality starts came to and end as the White Sox chased him before he could get through five innings. The major damage came on a three-run home run off the bat of Gavin Sheets. Singer has been a bright spot for the beleaguered Royals this year and has markedly improved from last season when he pitched to a 4.91 ERA. The 26-year-old right-hander has a solid 3.33 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 124 strikeouts in 121.2 innings pitched in 2022. He is tentatively expected to make his next start in a favorable matchup at Detroit.
Aug 24 2022Singer (7-4) earned the win over Arizona on Wednesday, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out six batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer cruised through four scoreless frames before Daulton Varsho knocked a solo shot off the right-hander in the fifth. That looked like it might be enough to tag the Kansas City ace with the loss as Zac Gallen outdueled him with six shutout innings, but a late offensive surge by the Royals turned things around and handed Singer his third victory over his past four starts. He's been tossing the ball well for over a month, picking up eight quality starts over his past nine outings and compiling an outstanding 2.01 ERA along with a 62:16 K:BB across 58.1 innings over that stretch. The 2018 first-round draft pick has blossomed in his third big-league campaign, recording a 3.15 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 21 appearances, including 18 starts.
Aug 20 2022Singer did not factor into the decision against the Rays on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking four over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer threw 58 of 99 pitches for strikes in Friday's contest. Although he walked four and allowed five hits, he limited the damage to just two runs scored on a Randy Arozarena single in the sixth inning. The outing was Singer's third quality start in a row and his seventh in his last eight games. He is turning in the best season of his career, posting a 3.27 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Aug 14 2022Singer (6-4) earned the victory Sunday over the Dodgers, striking out seven in six scoreless innings while allowing a hit, three walks and a hit batsman. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer did not allow a hit until the fifth inning when Chris Taylor singled. Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman went a combined 0-for-9 with three strikeouts against Singer as the righty did his part to end the Dodgers' 12-game winning streak. The 26-year-old has allowed one earned run or fewer in five of his last six starts and has a 1.64 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB in 38.1 innings in that span. His next start will likely be at the end of the week in Tampa Bay.
Aug 9 2022Singer (5-4) earned the win in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox. He allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and zero walks in 7.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander generated only seven whiffs but threw 71 of 99 pitches for strikes, and the only blemish against him was a solo shot off the bat of Josh Harrison. Singer has covered at least six frames in each of his past six starts, and he has a 2.29 ERA and 42:9 K:BB across 39.1 innings during that span. He tentatively lines up for a tough matchup with the Dodgers on Sunday.
Aug 4 2022Singer (4-4) took the loss to the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out three and walking one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 11 hits Singer allowed in Wednesday's game were as many as he had given up in his previous three games combined. The three strikeouts were the fewest he has had in a game since April 26 when he pitched only two innings. The outing was arguably the second worst of Singer's season and comes after a July where the righty had four quality starts and a 2.05 ERA. His season ERA now sits at 3.67.
Jul 28 2022Singer allowed one hit and one walk while striking out 10 across seven scoreless innings Thursday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer dominated the Yankees and allowed only two runners to reach scoring position throughout his start. He also continued to show impressive swing-and-miss stuff, tallying 14 swinging strikes on 99 total pitches. In five July starts, Singer now has a 2.05 ERA with a 42:11 K:BB across 30.2 frames.
Jul 23 2022Singer allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out 12 over six-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Rays on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer carried a no-hitter through five innings, but the Rays were able to cobble together a run against him in the sixth. He started giving up harder contact in the seventh, and Taylor Clarke couldn't protect a lead, leaving Singer with his third no-decision in his last four starts. The right-hander has been solid in that span, allowing eight runs (seven earned) in 23.2 innings while racking up a 32:10 K:BB, and he's notched three consecutive quality starts. He owns a 3.82 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 81:20 K:BB across 77.2 innings in 15 appearances (12 starts) this year, and he's projected for a tough road start versus the Yankees next week.
Jul 18 2022The Royals reinstated Singer (personal) from the restricted list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was one of 10 Royals players who will rejoin the 26-man active roster after being ineligible to play during the four-game weekend series in Toronto due his vaccination status. Since his last start came Wednesday against the Tigers before he was placed on the restricted list Thursday, Singer didn't miss out on a start while he was deactivated. The 25-year-old right-hander finished the first half of the Royals' schedule with a 4-3 record, 4.02 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 69:18 K:BB across 71.2 innings over his 14 appearances (11 starts) for the big club.
Jul 14 2022The Royals placed Singer (personal) on the restricted list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer is one of 10 Royals on the 26-man active roster who won't be eligible for the four-game series in Toronto due to his vaccination status. He'll be formally reinstated from the restricted list for the Royals' first game coming out of the All-Star break July 22 against Tampa Bay. Since he started in Wednesday's series finale with the Tigers, Singer wasn't on track to get a turn through the rotation in Toronto anyway, but his placement on the restricted list nonetheless allows the Royals to bring aboard infielder Michael Massey from Triple-A Omaha as an extra option off the bench.
Jul 13 2022Singer (4-3) earned the win Wednesday against the Tigers after giving up one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and five walks over six innings. He'll be placed on the restricted list Thursday since he cannot enter Canada due to his vaccination status, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander had traffic on the bases all day, Harold Castro's sacrifice fly during the first inning was all the Detroit offense was able to muster off of him. Having already made his final start before the All-Star break, Singer's move to the restricted list won't affect Kansas City's starting rotation. Regardless, he won't travel or be paid for the four-game set against the Blue Jays.
Jul 8 2022Singer allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings in Friday's win over the Guardians. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer gave up just one run through six innings before he served up a two-run homer to Franmil Reyes in the seventh. He's allowed at least three runs in six of his last eight starts, registering a 5.28 ERA during that stretch. Singer is now sporting a 4.25 ERA with a 63:13 K:BB through 65.2 frames. The 25-year-old is lined up to face the Tigers at home next week.
Jul 3 2022Singer allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine in 4.2 innings during Sunday's win over the Tigers. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had his shortest start of the season during Sunday's outing, but he matched his season-high mark in strikeouts during the victory. In spite of his strong strikeout rate, he was held out of the win column for a fourth consecutive outing. The right-hander has given up at least seven runs in each of his last seven starts, and he's posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 39 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Guardians on Friday.
Jul 2 2022Singer, who initially scheduled to start Saturday's game in Detroit, will instead take the hill for Sunday's series finale, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kris Bubic will instead pick up his second start of the week Saturday before Singer returns to the mound Sunday on six days' rest. The Royals likely just wanted to extend Singer some extra recovery time after he tossed a season-high 8.1 innings and 99 pitches in his most recent outing June 26 against the Athletics.
Jun 27 2022Singer (3-3) took the loss against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one over 8.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer pitched an efficient game, throwing 66 of 99 pitches for strikes across 8.1 frames, yet he was unable to pick up the win. He allowed five earned runs in the contest, which turned out to be too much for the Royals' offense to overcome. The righty has allowed three or more runs in four of five June appearances. Singer will take a 4.50 ERA into his next appearance.
Jun 20 2022Singer (3-2) took the loss against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four and walking none in 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer gave up three runs in Sunday's loss to Oakland thanks to home runs from Seth Brown and Sean Murphy. Singer threw 58 of 82 pitches for strikes in the outing. The righty has not lasted more than 5.2 innings since a seven-inning outing on May 22 and has been tagged for three or more earned runs in four of five appearances since then. Singer will take a 4.34 ERA into his next appearance.
Jun 13 2022Singer did not factor in the decision against San Francisco on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks while striking out five over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer allowed only two hits -- both doubles -- in his five frames, but he yielded a season-high five walks. Four of the free passes came consecutively in the third inning, when Singer couldn't find his control and walked in a pair of runs with two outs. Walks hadn't been an issue for Singer this season -- he entered Monday having yielded just four free passes across 35.1 frames -- but the right-hander has been worse in that area in previous campaigns. After hurling 16.2 scoreless innings over four appearances across a month-long period in April and May, Singer has come back to earth by giving up 15 earned runs over 20.2 frames in his past four starts.
Jun 9 2022Singer (3-1) picked up the win in Wednesday's 8-4 victory over the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on eight hits over five innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Two of the hits off Singer left the yard, but the right-hander got enough run support to weather the blows. Keeping the ball in the yard has become a problem for the 25-year-old, as he's served up six homers in his last three starts. However, Singer still sports a 3.94 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and sharp 29:3 K:BB in 29.2 innings since rejoining the Royals' rotation.
Jun 3 2022Singer (2-1) allowed seven runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts in five innings, taking the loss against the Astros on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had allowed just two homers in 25.1 innings this season, but the Astros muscled up for three long balls Friday to account for six of the seven runs on his line. The right-hander has been mostly solid since rejoining the rotation -- this was his first bad start in four since May 17. He owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 30:4 K:BB across 30.1 innings overall. He'll look to bounce back in another tough home matchup next week versus the Blue Jays.
May 28 2022Singer (2-0) earned the win Saturday after he pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits while striking out eight versus the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer gave up a solo homer to Trevor Larnach in the bottom of the second before later surrendering two more runs in the sixth frame, recording two outs in the inning before exiting. He fell one out short of recording his third straight quality start while he gave up his first earned runs since getting recalled from Triple-A Omaha on May 17. Since his call up, Singer has compiled a 1.37 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 20 strikeouts over 19.2 innings in three starts.
May 22 2022Singer allowed four hits and three walks over seven shutout innings in Sunday's loss to the Twins. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer faced a couple of threats Sunday, including in the sixth inning when he loaded the bases with just one out, but he managed to keep the Twins off the board. He's fired 14 scoreless frames in two starts this month and has a 16.2-inning shutout streak dating back to April. With the way he's pitching as of late, the 25-year-old righty should continue seeing regular action at the MLB level. Singer is currently projected to get a rematch in Minnesota next week.
May 21 2022Singer is on the Royals' taxi squad and is expected to start Sunday against the Twins, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was sent down after starting in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, but he'll pitch on normal rest during Sunday's series finale at home against the Twins. The 25-year-old began the season in a relief role but allowed four hits and no walks while striking out nine in seven innings during Tuesday's start against the White Sox.
May 17 2022Singer (1-0) earned the win during Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox after giving up four hits with nine strikeouts and zero walks over seven scoreless innings. He was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after the contest. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer served as the 27th man for the twin bill, so it's not a surprise he's returning to the minors despite the impressive showing. The right-hander pounded the zone and threw 70 of his 93 pitches for strikes while generating 18 swings and misses. Singer was shifted to the bullpen for the start of the season and was sent to Triple-A after three relief outings, but he returned to the majors and pitched a gem in his first start of the year. The 25-year-old should receive another look in the major-league rotation before long following Tuesday's performance.
May 16 2022Singer joined the Royals' taxi squad Monday and could be formally recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday to start one game of Kansas City's doubleheader with the White Sox, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After missing out on a spot in Kansas City's season-opening rotation, Singer made three relief appearances for the Royals before being optioned to Omaha on April 28. Since being demoted, Singer has been building up in preparation for a starting role, with the right-hander most recently covering six innings and giving up four runs in his last start May 11. Singer previously made 27 starts at the big-league level in 2021, submitting a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB across 128.1 innings.
Apr 11 2022Singer allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings during Sunday's 17-3 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's first career relief appearance didn't go very well, though it had little impact on what was already a blowout before he entered the game. The right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Jose Ramirez and an RBI single to Ernie Clement in the seventh inning, and then ran into more trouble that yielded a Franmil Reyes RBI single in the eighth. Starter Kris Bubic and long reliever Jackson Kowar both struggled as well, with the latter being reassigned to Triple-A Omaha on Monday as a result. While Singer is expected to continue working out of the bullpen, he'll need to pitch better than he did Sunday to get back into the rotation.
Apr 7 2022Singer will work out of the bullpen initially in 2022, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer has started all 39 of his major-league appearances to date, but that will likely change in 2022. The 25-year-old went 5-10 and struggled to a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB in 128.1 innings last season. Daniel Lynch and Jonathan Hernandez won rotation spots, but Lewis added that the Royals still view Singer and Jackson Kowar as starters. Should injuries arise, Singer will be near the top of the list of candidates for a spot start, and he could also win a starting role through performance.
Mar 22 2022Singer allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out two over two innings in Monday's win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was shut down with arm inflammation late last season, but he's been good to go for spring. It was his error that led to a run Monday, but the right-hander was otherwise solid in his first game action of the year. He's looking for a bounce-back campaign after going 5-10 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB in 128.1 innings across 27 starts last year. He should be near the front of the Royals' rotation in 2022.
Mar 14 2022Singer (arm) threw a bullpen session Monday at the Royals' big-league camp, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Royals manager Mike Matheny hasn't mentioned that Singer will be subject to any restrictions early on during spring training, so the 25-year-old right-hander has seemingly made a full recovery from the right upper arm discomfort that cut his final start of the season short in late September. Though Singer noticed a downturn in both his ERA (4.91) and WHIP (1.55) in 2021 following an impressive 12-start debut in 2020, he was a victim of some bad luck (.350 BABIP, 67.8 percent strand rate). Singer still looks to be a promising rotation arm for the Royals, though as a pitcher who relies more on inducing groundballs (50.9 percent career rate) instead of strikeouts (22.6 career K%), his fantasy upside is somewhat capped.
Sep 29 2021The Royals placed Singer on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right upper arm inflammation, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kansas City has little on the line with five games left in the season, so it makes sense for the club to shut down Singer, who exited his outing Tuesday against Cleveland with the injury. Follow-up scans cleared Singer of any structural damage to his arm, so he'll seemingly be in store for a normal offseason once the soreness and discomfort subsides. He'll conclude his second big-league campaign with a 5-10 record, 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB in 128.1 innings over 27 starts.
Sep 28 2021Manager Mike Matheny said after Tuesday's win over Cleveland that Singer is dealing with a right "mid-arm" injury, and scans showed no damage to his elbow or shoulder, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old was removed during the first inning of Tuesday's start with what was initially labeled right upper arm discomfort, but after some evaluation it appears he's avoided the most troublesome arm injuries. Singer didn't factor in the decision after giving up three runs on three hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He lines up for one final turn through the rotation in the final game of the regular season Sunday against the Twins, though it's unclear whether the injury will cause his season to end a bit early.
Sep 21 2021Singer (5-10) picked up the win in the first game of Monday's doubleheader sweep of Cleveland, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander went the distance in his return from the COVID-19 list while recording his fourth quality start in his last six outings. Singer has a 2.97 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through 36.1 innings over that stretch, striking out at least five batters in all six trips to the mound, and only a 1.5 HR/9 prevented him from putting up even better ratios. The 2018 first-round pick appears to be settling in after a bumpy beginning to his big-league career, making him an intriguing sleeper for 2022.
Sep 20 2021Singer was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his scheduled start in the first game of Monday's doubleheader in Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had only been on the injured list since Friday, so his quick return seemingly indicates that he was only on the list for precautionary reasons. He'll be looking to bounce back from a poor performance in his previous start which saw the Twins clear the fence against him five times.
Sep 19 2021Singer is expected to be activated from the injured list and start Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader versus Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was placed on the injured list Friday for an undisclosed reason. The quick return indicates he's cleared COVID-19 protocols and will be able to pitch in the first game of the twin bill. He'll still need to be officially activated prior to the start.
Sep 17 2021Singer was placed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons prior to his scheduled start Friday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The absence of an injury designation suggests it could be a COVID-related move, but there's been no indication of that. Singer gave up six runs on five home runs in his last start Saturday, raising his ERA to 4.85 and his WHIP to 1.56 on the season. Jon Heasley was selected from Double-A Northwest Arkansas and may start in Singer's stead.
Sep 11 2021Singer (4-10) took the loss Saturday against the Twins, giving up six runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was tagged for five -- count 'em, five -- home runs after having allowed just one over his previous eight starts. Jorge Polanco took him deep twice, while Byron Buxton, Nick Gordon and Max Kepler each added solo blasts -- the first time an opposing lineup has hit multiple homers off Singer since June 22. Singer, who has just one win in his last 14 outings (1-6), is tentatively lined up to face Seattle at home next week.
Sep 5 2021Singer (4-9) allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was terrific in Sunday's win, coughing up just four singles and never letting a runner reach scoring position. It was his first scoreless outing since April 18 and he picked up his first victory since June 1. Over his last four starts, the 25-year-old righty has allowed four earned runs over 24.2 innings (1.46 ERA) with a 23:9 K:BB. Singer is lined up to face the Twins on the road next weekend.
Aug 29 2021Singer allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out three across six innings in the loss to the Mariners on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only earned run that Singer allowed came on a Jarred Kelenic home run in the sixth inning. He has allowed just four runs in 17.2 innings over his last three starts. The 24-year-old has a 5.39 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with 120 strikeouts in 133.2 innings this season. His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the White Sox.
Aug 24 2021Singer (3-9) allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out six in five innings, taking the loss versus Houston on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A pair of first-inning errors by Kansas City's defense didn't help Singer's cause, and the offense mustered just four hits in the entire game. The right-hander can't be held blameless either, as he allowed more than 10 baserunners for the sixth time in 22 starts. He has a 5.07 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 106:46 K:BB through 103 innings this year. Singer lines up for a slightly easier matchup at home versus Cleveland next week.
Aug 18 2021Singer allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six in 6.2 innings, taking a no-decision versus Houston on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer cruised through the first six innings before giving up a two-run single to Jason Castro with two outs in the seventh. The right-hander was spared from the loss as Kansas City retook the lead in its half of the inning. This was Singer's seventh quality start in 21 appearances this year. He's posted a 5.23 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 100:42 K:BB through 98 innings. He'll look to enjoy similar success next week in a road rematch in Houston.
Aug 11 2021Singer (3-8) allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings, taking the loss versus the Yankees on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his first start since a stint on the injured list with right shoulder fatigue, the 25-year-old allowed five of the first six batters to reach base. Singer induced double plays in the first and third innings, but he was no match for the Yankees on Wednesday. He's now at a 5.42 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 94:40 K:BB across 91.1 innings in a difficult second major-league season. Singer projects to make his next start at home versus Houston next week on six days' rest with Kansas City deploying a six-man rotation going forward.
Aug 8 2021Singer (shoulder) is projected to return from the injured list Wednesday versus the Yankees, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In two rehab starts with Triple-A Omaha, Singer allowed seven runs over 4.2 innings, but he's apparently physically well enough to return this week. The right-hander will need to be officially activated from the injured list prior to his scheduled start. Kansas City will also go with a six-man rotation once Singer returns, which keeps Carlos Hernandez and Daniel Lynch in starting roles while allowing some extra rest for all of the starters.
Aug 7 2021Singer (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer recently made two rehab starts and had lackluster results, as he allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two in 4.2 innings. However, he apparently felt good after each outing, and he's now with the Royals during their road trip in St. Louis. The team's medical staff will see how Singer's shoulder responds before determining when he'll return, but his activation appears to be imminent.
Aug 4 2021Singer (shoulder) is set to make his second rehab start Wednesday, Omaha Storm Chasers announcer Jake Eisenberg reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer had a rough outing versus Triple-A Toledo last week, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. He'll look for better results Wednesday, and if all goes well, he could be activated from the 10-day injured list next week.
Jul 30 2021Singer (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer is already eligible to return from a bout of shoulder fatigue but will make at least one rehab start before doing so. If that one outing is all he needs, he should return to the active roster sometime next week.
Jul 29 2021Manager Mike Matheny said Thursday that Singer (shoulder) will likely begin a rehab assignment soon, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer has been on the injured list for just over a week due to right shoulder fatigue, but he's felt much better in recent days. Matheny isn't sure what day the right-hander could report to a minor-league affiliate, but he should return to game action soon.
Jul 20 2021The Royals placed Singer on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to right shoulder fatigue, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's move to the IL comes just a few days after he was lit up for seven runs over two innings en route to taking a loss to the Orioles. The young righty hasn't won any of his last eight starts and has posted a 5.24 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over that span. In addition to Singer, the Royals also placed another rotation member, Danny Duffy (elbow), on the 10-day IL ahead of Tuesday's game against the Brewers. Due to a pair of off days this week, the Royals could elect to get by with a four-man rotation for the time being, with long reliever Kris Bubic presumably moving from the bullpen to pick up a start this weekend against the Tigers.
Jul 17 2021Singer (3-7) allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk with just one strikeout in Saturday's loss to Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer needed 60 pitches to record just six outs before being taken out in the third inning. After a scoreless opening frame, Singer gave up a pair of runs in the second and five more in the third on his way to an eighth straight start without a victory. The 24-year-old produced a promising rookie campaign in 2020 but hasn't been able to put it together as a sophomore, posting a 5.13 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 87.2 innings. Singer has been able to miss bats (92 strikeouts), but he's allowed a flood of baserunners with 99 hits and 37 walks while hitting nine batters. He's slated to return to the hill next week at home against the White Sox.
Jul 8 2021Singer allowed a run on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six-plus innings, taking a no-decision versus Cincinnati on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wednesday's performance was the right-hander's sixth quality start in 18 outings this season. Singer got through six innings with little trouble, but he let the leadoff batter get on base in the seventh and Scott Barlow allowed the inherited runner to score. Through 85.2 innings this season, Singer has struggled to a 4.52 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 91:36 K:BB. He'll need to work on trimming down his 3.8 BB/9 in the second half of the season to put in more consistently strong outings.
Jul 3 2021Singer didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-4 win over the Twins, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Minnesota jumped on the right-hander for three runs in the top of the first inning, and after he escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third with no further damage, Singer got the hook. The 24-year-old has failed to complete four innings in three of his last four outings, and it might be fair to wonder if the shoulder tightness he reported in mid-June is still an issue. On the season, Singer carries a 4.74 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 85:35 K:BB through 79.2 innings.
Jun 27 2021Singer (3-6) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Rangers after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while fanning five across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer allowed all three of his runs in the first inning -- two on a homer from Joey Gallo and one off an RBI triple from Adolis Garcia -- and that was enough to tag him with another loss. Singer has also allowed at least one homer in three of his last four contests and continues to struggle, as he owns a 4.70 ERA on the season. His next chance to feature is scheduled to come next week at home against the Twins.
Jun 22 2021Singer did not factor into the decision during Tuesday's win over the Yankees. He allowed two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out five across 3.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being placed on a pitch count and limited to three innings in his last start due to shoulder tightness, the discomfort did not keep Singer from missing a turn through the rotation or from any workload limitations Tuesday as the right-hander worked up to 91 pitches. Unfortunately it was still another short outing for the 24-year-old after his lack of command racked up a season-worst five free passes against a tough Yankees lineup. Singer will carry a 4.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into his next projected start on the road Sunday at Texas.
Jun 20 2021Manager Mike Matheny said Singer (shoulder) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was on a pitch count and limited to three frames in his start last Tuesday while managing some shoulder tightness, but it appears he won't miss a turn through the rotation. Singer could still face some workload limitations after throwing only 51 pitches in his previous outing.
Jun 16 2021Manager Mike Matheny said Singer had shoulder tightness surface after his previous outing Friday, and the right-hander was removed from Tuesday's start after three innings because he reached his pitch count, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matheny indicated the team was happy with the 24-year-old's three scoreless frames Wednesday, so it appears he didn't have any significant issues with his shoulder. Kansas City has scheduled off days Thursday and Monday, so Singer should receive some extra rest before potentially making his next turn through the rotation.
Jun 11 2021Singer tossed six innings against Oakland on Friday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander gave up three runs in the fourth inning but otherwise kept Oakland off the scoreboard. Singer collected his fifth quality start of the campaign and struck out seven for the second straight outing. Through 13 starts this season, he carried a 4.85 ERA and 69:24 K:BB across 65 innings. Singer's next start is tentatively lined up to come at home against Detroit on Wednesday.
Jun 6 2021Singer (3-5) allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings Sunday, striking out seven and taking the loss against Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer coughed up an RBI double to Miguel Sano in the third inning and later hit Trevor Larnach with the bases loaded in the fifth. The 24-year-old righty only gave up two runs in the outing but had runners in scoring position nearly every inning. He lowered his season ERA to 4.88 but his WHIP bumped up to 1.48 through 59 innings. Singer is lined up to take the mound in Oakland late next week.
Jun 1 2021Singer (3-4) picked up the win Tuesday after holding the Pirates to five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Coming off a tough loss, Singer turned things around Tuesday and finally got enough run support from his teammates to finish off the much-needed victory. Stronger command definitely played a factor as it was just the third time in 11 starts this season that Singer did not issue multiple free passes. Per usual, the 24-year-old managed to keep the ball in the yard and has only surrendered four homers this year. Overall, Singer has tallied a 5.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 53.1 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Twins on Sunday.
May 27 2021Singer (2-4) allowed six earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three across 2.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer never got on track and was burned for multiple runs in two of the three innings in which he appeared. He entered the game in strong form, having allowed only five earned runs across his last 12.2 innings of work. However, Singer will likely have to cut back his walks to earn more consistent results, as he's now handed out multiple free passes in all but two of 10 starts this season. Overall, he now has a 4.91 ERA with a 49:19 K:BB across 47.2 innings.
May 23 2021Singer (2-3) earned the win Saturday versus Detroit. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was effective in his second straight quality start, although an RBI single by Harold Castro in the fifth inning cut Kansas City's lead to one run. The right-hander picked up his first win since April 24. He has a 4.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB across 45 innings in nine starts. Singer lines up to face Tampa Bay next week.
May 16 2021Singer didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the White Sox after allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning seven across 6.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was coming off two bad performances -- allowing seven runs across nine innings in that span -- but bounced back admirably here, limiting the damage to just two runs while posting his third quality start of the campaign. Singer will try to build off this performance when he takes the ball next week at home against the Tigers.
May 11 2021Singer took a no-decision Tuesday against the Tigers, surrendering four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out four across 3.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer got the Royals off to a good start by blanking the Tigers through three. Trouble then struck in the fourth inning after the right-hander put runners at the corners, giving up a triple and a walk with no outs. Detroit capitalized on the opportunity, knocking in a total of four runs as Singer departed the game for good. It was a tough outing for the 24-year-old, who had recorded his best start of the season against the Tigers in April. He'll look to bounce back during his next projected start on the road Sunday versus the White Sox.
May 5 2021Singer (heel) gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while fanning three across 5.2 innings Wednesday against Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer took a comebacker off his heel in Friday's start against the Twins and there were concerns regarding his availability and durability for Wednesday, but the right-hander didn't have problems delivering a strong performance this time -- he finished just one out away from posting what would've been his third quality start of the season. Singer ended a streak of four starts allowing one or fewer runs, but he remains a reliable presence on the mound and owns a 3.41 ERA across 29 innings in 2021. He's tabbed to make his upcoming start next week on the road at Detroit.
May 4 2021Singer (heel) threw a bullpen session and is on track to make his scheduled start Wednesday against Cleveland, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took a comebacker off his heel in Friday's start against the Twins, leading to a short outing. Singer has been mostly excellent this season, logging a 3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 23.1 innings (five starts).
Apr 30 2021Singer underwent X-rays on his left heel after Friday's loss to the Twins that came back negative, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was removed from Friday's contest after just two framess since he was hit by a hard comebacker to end the second inning. However, the right-hander said after the game that he felt better and expects to be ready to make his next start. Singer tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against Cleveland on Wednesday.
Apr 24 2021Singer (1-2) allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out eight across seven innings to earn the win Saturday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer's lone blemish was a solo home run off the bat of Willi Castro in the fifth inning. He cruised through the Tigers' lineup otherwise, generating 15 swinging strike across 93 total pitches. Since surrendering five earned runs during his first start of the season, Singer has allowed only two earned runs across 18 innings. He projects to take his next turn through the rotation Friday at Minnesota.
Apr 18 2021Singer tossed six scoreless innings Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing two hits and three walks while fanning six. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer delivered his best outing of the campaign and limited the Blue Jays to just five baserunners -- only two of them reached scoring position and no one reached third base. The 24-year-old right-hander endured a rough debut this season but has settled since then, giving up just one earned run and posting a 12:3 K:BB over his last 11 innings.
Apr 12 2021Singer (0-2) was charged with four runs (one earned) on seven hits over five innings in a loss to the Angels on Monday. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Errors kept most of the runs off Singer's personal ledger, although it was Singer himself who committed one of the throwing errors in the second inning. Singer has an unsightly 6.48 ERA through two starts this season, but his 11:3 K:BB in 8.1 innings is encouraging. He lines up for a home start against the Blue Jays this weekend.
Apr 4 2021Singer (0-1) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals' bats didn't give Singer much support, but the right-hander also struggled a bit the second time through the order. The 24-year-old allowed a three-run homer to Nate Lowe in the third inning and got into a game again in the fourth before he was relieved by Jake Brentz. Singer had a solid rookie season with a 4.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 61 strikeouts across 64.1 innings in 2020. His next start is expected to be against the White Sox on Saturday.
Mar 30 2021Singer tossed five shutout innings Monday in the Royals' 5-4 exhibition win over Cleveland. He scattered two hits and one walk while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer wrapped up a stellar spring with his best outing yet, finishing the Royals' Cactus League slate with a 2.65 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB In 17 innings. The right-hander will get a favorable draw for his 2021 debut, facing off Sunday against a Rangers offense that produced an MLB-worst -0.2 WAR in 2020. Coming off a solid debut season in the majors, Singer has some upside as a second-year breakout candidate.
Sep 27 2020Singer (4-5) allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings as he earned the win Sunday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer struggled with command in his last start, but he ended the season on a high note by allowing only three baserunners over seven innings in the season finale. The right-hander pitched well in his first major-league season, finishing with a 4.06 ERA and 61:23 K:BB over 63.1 innings across 12 starts.
Sep 22 2020Singer (3-5) allowed three runs on three hits and five walks over three innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The five walks were a season-high for Singer, which led to him throwing 81 pitches (44 strikes) in the three-inning start. The 24-year-old saw his ERA rise to 4.40 with a 1.26 WHIP and 56:23 K:BB in 57.1 innings across 11 starts this season. The rookie right-hander projects to start Sunday's game versus the Tigers.
Sep 16 2020Singer (3-4) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out eight across six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer turned in his second consecutive dominant outing and has now allowed no earned runs across his last 14 inning. He racked up an impressive 21 called strikes and 13 swinging strikes across 81 total pitches, working efficiently while retiring 18 batters. After an inconsistent start to his rookie campaign, Singer has settled in to maintain a 4.14 ERA with a 52:18 K:BB across 54.1 frames. He'll take his next turn through the rotation Tuesday against St. Louis.
Sep 10 2020Singer (2-4) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out eight across eight scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer held a no-hitter through 7.2 innings, broken up by an Austin Hedges single. He dominated the Cleveland lineup, generating 23 called strikes and 18 swinging strikes across 119 total pitches. The strong start was needed, as Singer had allowed three or more earned runs for four consecutive outings -- never working six innings. Across his first 48.1 frames in the big leagues, Singer has maintained a 4.66 ERA and a 44:17 K:BB. He's projected to take his next turn through the rotation Friday at the Brewers.
Sep 4 2020Singer (1-4) surrendered five runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings in Friday's loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was far too generous with baserunners Friday, but all 10 hits he allowed were singles. That's little consolation, as this was his first start where he allowed more than eight batters to get on base. Singer has a 5.58 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB through 40.1 innings this season. He'll try to miss more bats Thursday in Cleveland in his next start.
Aug 29 2020Singer allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings during Saturday's win over the White Sox. He had four strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was unable to complete six innings through his first six starts, and that didn't change Saturday as he needed 95 pitches to get through five frames. Singer has a 5.19 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 34.2 innings lines up for another matchup with the White Sox on Thursday.
Aug 23 2020Singer (1-3) took the loss Saturday as the Royals fell 7-2 to the Twins. He gave up four runs on six hits over four innings while striking out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Four of the six hits off the rookie went for extra bases, including homers by Eddie Rosario and Miguel Sano that accounted for all the scoring against Singer. The 24-year-old right-hander has now served up seven long balls in his first 29.2 big-league innings, and while his 27:12 K:BB isn't terrible, he'll need to figure out how to keep the ball in the park if he's going to reach his full potential. Singer faces another dangerous offense in his next outing Friday, on the road against the White Sox.
Aug 16 2020Singer (1-2) took the loss Sunday against the Twins, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over 5.2 innings pitched. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After getting through his first two innings unscathed, Singer gifted the Royals a run in the third, as a walk, wild pitch and balk led to an RBI groundout for Jorge Polanco. The right-handed Singer was bit by a walk again two innings later, as a leadoff free pass preceded a go-ahead two-run homer for Max Kepler. On a positive note, Singer's 5.2 innings of work marked his longest outing on his young career. He will look to flip the script when he takes on Minnesota again Saturday.
Aug 9 2020Singer (1-1) allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings to earn the win Sunday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer was staked to an early lead, and he held the Twins offense in check to earn his first major-league victory. He wasn't particularly dominant, as he allowed seven baserunners while generating only eight swinging strikes on 95 pitches. Still, he retired the Twins in order on two occasions and only allowed one extra-base hit. Through four starts, Singer has generated 22 strikeouts across 20 innings while maintaining a 4.50 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.
Aug 4 2020Singer (0-1) took the loss against Chicago on Tuesday, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The strikeout total was impressive for Singer, but he was stung by a pair of two-run home runs to account for all four runs against him. The right-hander has logged exactly five innings in each of his three starts this season, and four of the 13 hits against him have left the park. Through three starts, Singer has registered a 4.80 ERA and 1.27 WHIP along with an 18:6 K:BB over 15 innings. He'll face a potent Minnesota offense at home Saturday in his next scheduled start.
Jul 31 2020Singer pitched five innings against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer didn't rack up many punchouts Thursday, but he mostly held down Detroit's offense while throwing 54 of 82 pitches for strikes. The Tigers' only two runs against Singer came on a pair of solo home runs, but that was enough to prevent the right-hander from picking up a win. Singer has held his own through his first two outings and will look to pick up his first big-league victory in a road outing against the Cubs on Tuesday.
Jul 25 2020Singer allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision against the Indians on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old allowed a run to score on a wild pitch but had good command for the most part and induced 14 swinging strikes on 80 pitches. Singer impressed in spring training and summer camp to earn a spot in the Royals' starting rotation, and if this performance is any indication, he isn't going anywhere. Up next is a road start in Detroit before a two-step the week of Aug. 3 (@CHC, vs. MIN).
Jul 22 2020Singer will make his MLB debut Saturday against Cleveland, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Singer will be arriving quite quickly after being selected 18th overall in the 2018 draft. He didn't pitch at all that year but made 26 starts at the High-A and Double-A levels last season, cruising to a 2.85 ERA. He showed good control, walking just 6.4 percent of opposing batters, though his 22.5 percent strikeout rate doesn't pop off the page. He relies on his sinker and slider to generate high groundball rates and keep his ERA down, which could eventually make him a high-floor option especially given the Royals' pitcher-friendly home park, but he's risky for now as he's yet to even pitch at the Triple-A level.
Jul 19 2020Singer threw four scoreless innings and allowed three hits and zero walks in Friday's intrasquad game, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Mike Matheny praised how quickly Singer works, as it helps his defense stay engaged. Singer has a chance to break camp in the big-league rotation despite having never pitched at Triple-A.
Jun 28 2020Singer will be named to the Royals' 60-man roster pool Sunday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Mike Matheny indicated in March that the 23-year-old was in contention for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, so it's not much of a surprise he'll be among the team's 60 players for the shortened season. Singer hasn't played at the Triple-A level and had only 16 starts at Double-A Northwest Arkansas last year, but he made a strong impression with a 3.47 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 85:26 K:BB across 90.2 innings. He appears to have a strong chance of making his big-league debut in 2020, even if he doesn't start out in the rotation.
Mar 25 2020Singer was a candidate to win the fifth starter's spot before spring training was postponed, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the team's other top pitching prospects (Jackson Kowar, Daniel Lynch) were already sent to minor-league camp before the hiatus, Singer was still competing for a rotation spot. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings this spring. Manager Mike Matheny said Singer would have to prove he was the obvious option for the fifth starter's spot, as the young righty has still never pitched at Triple-A. Singer is a sinker/slider type who relies on generating weak contact. His changeup is a distant third pitch, but so far that has not slowed his climb through the minors -- he skipped Low-A altogether, needed just 10 starts at High-A, and logged a 3.47 ERA in 16 starts at Double-A.
Jun 4 2018The Royals have selected Singer with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft. The two things that stand out right away with Singer are his low arm slot and the resulting incredible horizontal movement he gets on his low-90s fastball and potentially plus slider. He also has prototypical size, standing 6-foot-5, 180 pounds and has stayed pretty healthy for a 21-year-old pitcher. Singer, who opted to go to Florida rather than sign with Toronto out of high school as the No. 56 overall pick in the 2015 draft, was in the mix to be the first player selected in this draft, but got off to a slow start and was clearly passed by Casey Mize for the honor of top college starter in the class. Through 13 starts as a junior, Singer has a 2.25 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 92:18 K:BB in 88 innings. While he has been able to put up impressive numbers at Florida without above-average command or a reliable third pitch, those shortcomings open up a wide range of outcomes for him as a pro. If he is able to develop a quality changeup (some evaluators fully expect this to happen), then he should be able to make it as a No. 3 starter, even if his command is never an above-average tool. If he improves his changeup and his command as a pro, he could be a No. 2 starter. A high-leverage relief role would be waiting for him if he is unable to make strides in those two key areas.
