Jun 7 2025The Blue Jays signed Sanchez to a minor-league contract Friday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was initially reported Thursday that Sanchez -- who the Blue Jays designated for assignment Tuesday -- was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo after clearing waivers, per Bannon. However, the 28-year-old catcher declined his assignment and elected free agency. Nonetheless, Sanchez has opted to stick around with the Blue Jays organization and will report back to Triple-A. Sanchez is slashing .242/.311/.421 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 106 plate appearances for Buffalo this season.
Jun 3 2025The Blue Jays designated Sanchez for assignment Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Tyler Heineman back from the 7-day concussion injured list, the Jays no longer had a need for Sanchez. If Sanchez passes through waivers, he could stick around in the organization as catching depth.
May 25 2025The Blue Jays selected Sanchez's contract from Triple-A Buffalo, and he'll start behind the plate and batting eighth Sunday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old inked a minor-league deal with Toronto in December and will now join the big club with Tyler Heineman (concussion) going on the 7-day injured list. Sanchez had a .401 OPS in 96 plate appearances with the Marlins last season. He'll likely see infrequent playing time for the Blue Jays since Alejandro Kirk is locked is as the team's No. 1 backstop.
Dec 16 2024The Blue Jays signed Sanchez to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez began the 2024 regular season with the Cubs in Triple-A, but he was dealt to the Marlins in mid-June in exchange for cash considerations. He ended up appearing in 31 games for Miami and posted a slash line of .167/.211/.190 with two stolen bases and four RBI across 96 plate appearances. Sanchez will have an opportunity in Toronto to compete for a major-league roster spot for the 2025 campaign.
Sep 3 2024The Marlins designated Sanchez for assignment Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miami selected the 27-year-old's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on June 21, and he primarily served as a backup catcher during his time with the big club. Jhonny Pereda is now poised to fill that role after Sanchez posted a .167/.211/.190 slash line in 31 games.
Sep 1 2024Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez had started in each of the Marlins' previous three matchups with right-handed starters, but he'll cede catching duties to Nick Fortes in the series finale while the Giants send right-hander Logan Webb to the hill. Sanchez and Fortes will likely continue to operate in a timeshare down the stretch, and the Marlins' catching picture could become even murkier with Miami using one of its two September call-ups on a third backstop in Jhonny Pereda.
Aug 30 2024Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The catcher came into the game with zero pilfers in 36 career big-league games and has never swiped more than two bags in a minor-league season, but Sanchez came home on a double steal with Connor Norby in the fourth inning before nabbing second base himself in the sixth. Sanchez has moved into a timeshare with Nick Fortes of late, starting four of the last eight games including the last two against right-handed pitchers, but Thursday's performance in Coors Field was his first multi-hit effort since July 12.
Aug 7 2024Sanchez will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez will pick up a second consecutive start and could see the majority of the work behind the plate for the foreseeable future after Nick Fortes (quadricep) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The Marlins recalled Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville to provide another option at catcher, but Pereda is a 28-year-old rookie who has just five MLB plate appearances to his name. Sanchez is slashing .180/.255/.180 over his 20 games with the Marlins this season and shouldn't be viewed as a viable fantasy option outside of NL-only leagues.
Jul 25 2024Sanchez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After top backstop Nick Fortes committed three throwing errors in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Mets, Sanchez caught the Marlins' next three games, going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts. Despite the rough performance over the weekend, Fortes still looks to be the Marlins' preferred catcher, and he'll be back behind the plate for Thursday's series finale with Baltimore while Sanchez sits.
Jul 14 2024Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez will hit the bench for the second game in a row after he was behind the dish for Friday's 7-4 loss in the series opener, finishing with two hits and an RBI across four at-bats. He's slashing .250/.323/.250 in 32 plate appearances over 10 games since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on June 21 and has been operating as the No. 2 option at catcher behind Nick Fortes.
Jun 21 2024The Marlins selected Sanchez's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miami traded for Sanchez on Wednesday and will quickly bring him up to the active roster as the team looks for an answer behind the plate. Christian Bethancourt was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, leaving Nick Fortes -- who's slashing .159/.194/.225 this season -- as Sanchez's only competition at catcher.
Mar 28 2024The Pirates designated Sanchez for assignment Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez signed a one-year deal with the Pirates in the offseason but will fall short of the Opening Day roster after going just 2-for-16 during spring training. The 27-year-old catcher slashed .311/.375/.492 over 267 plate appearances at Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks organization last season, so he could draw interest from teams on the waiver wire.
Dec 1 2023Sanchez signed a one-year contract with the Pirates on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez hasn't played in a major-league game since 2021, but he posted a strong .311/.375/.492 slash line over 267 plate appearances with the Triple-A affiliate of the Diamondbacks in 2023. The 26-year-old could be a backup option at catcher for Pittsburgh in 2024.
Dec 23 2022The Diamondbacks designated Sanchez for assignment Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After the acquisition of Lourdes Gurriel and Gabriel Moreno from Toronto in exchange for Daulton Varsho, Sanchez ends up being the odd man out. The D-backs will almost certainly begin 2023 with Moreno and Carson Kelly behind the plate, leaving little room for Sanchez to make an impact. Sanchez recorded a .743 OPS in Triple-A last season and will more than likely get picked up by another team off waivers.
Dec 2 2022Sanchez was claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh by the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez was claimed off waivers from Detroit earlier in the offseason, and will now join his third organization in less than two months. The 25-year-old backstop never saw the big leagues in 2022, but he put up a .743 OPS and collected 33 RBI in Triple-A over 252 plate appearances. If he makes the big-league roster, it's possible Sanchez splits time with Carson Kelly, pushing Daulton Varsho into the outfield full-time.
Oct 18 2022Sanchez was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez spent all of 2022 in Triple-A, slashing .262/.354/.389 with 33 RBI between Memphis and Toledo. He will replace Jose Godoy on the Pirates' 40-man roster, who was designated for assignment Tuesday.
Jun 15 2022The Cardinals designated Sanchez for assignment Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez was moved off the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Jack Flaherty (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Pirates. St. Louis is now left with three other catchers (Yadier Molina, Andrew Knizner and Ivan Herrera) on its 40-man roster.
Mar 31 2022The Cardinals optioned Sanchez to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Jim Hayes of Bally Sports Midwest reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yadier Molina and Andrew Knizner are both healthy and are St. Louis' clear top two catchers heading into Opening Day, so Sanchez's demotion was fully expected. The 25-year-old backstop has logged just 14 career plate appearances in the big leagues and isn't expected to see extended action with St. Louis at any point in 2022 so long as Molina and Knizner are available.
Sep 11 2021Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez was recalled by the Cardinals but made just one appearance and went 1-for-1 with a double. He should see more consistent at-bats in Memphis, while his demotion makes room for right-hander Justin Miller (elbow), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday.
Sep 1 2021Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez has mainly played in the minors this year and has slashed .268/.313/.366 with four home runs, 21 RBI and 20 runs across 62 games. He's appeared in just one big-league game in 2021 but will be available as depth at catcher after active rosters expanded Wednesday.
Aug 31 2021The Cardinals will recall Sanchez from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wednesday's roster expansion will allow Sanchez to join the big-league club as additional catcher depth. He's slashed .268/.313/.366 in 240 plate appearances at Memphis this season. Sanchez has been hitting especially well recently with a .314 average and six RBI in his last 11 games.
May 8 2021Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez will remain with the team as part of the taxi squad going forward, but he'll be removed from the major-league roster to make room for Yadier Molina (foot), who was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Sanchez appeared in just one game during his most recent stint in the big leagues.
Apr 27 2021Sanchez was recalled by the Cardinals on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cardinals need an extra backstop with Yadier Molina (foot) landing on the injured list, and Sanchez is the next man up. The 24-year-old went 1-for-9 at the plate during his brief debut with the Mets last season and hasn't produced a league-average batting line since rookie ball. He'll likely serve as Andrew Knizner's backup during his time with the team.
Mar 20 2021Sanchez was optioned to minor-league camp Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez was competing for a backup role during spring training but should begin the season with Triple-A Memphis. The 24-year-old went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and two strikeouts during Grapefruit League play this spring.
Feb 12 2021Sanchez was traded from the Mets to the Cardinals in exchange for cash considerations Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez comes quite cheap after being designated for assignment Wednesday. He doesn't project as anything more than a backup catcher, as he owns a career .648 OPS in the minors. He made his big-league debut last season but came to the plate only 10 times, grabbing just a single hit.
Feb 10 2021Sanchez was designated for assignment by the Mets on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was the third catcher on New York's 40-man roster, so he was jettisoned to make room for offseason additions. Sanchez made his major-league debut in 2020 and went 1-for-9 with a walk in five games.
Sep 26 2020Sanchez was recalled to serve as the 29th man for Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez will be available as a third catcher for Saturday's twin bill as the Mets compete for a narrow chance at a spot in the playoffs. The 23-year-old appeared in five games earlier this season, going 1-for-9 with one walk and three strikeouts.
Sep 2 2020The Mets optioned Sanchez to their alternate training site Wednesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez's demotion clears a spot for Robinson Chirinos, whom the Mets acquired from the Rangers in a deadline-day deal Monday. Chirinos will displace Sanchez as the No. 2 catcher behind Wilson Ramos.
Aug 25 2020Sanchez was recalled from the alternate training site and is starting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old is apparently serving as the 29th man for the twin bill, and he'll receive the spot start in the nightcap. Sanchez made his big-league debut Aug. 10 and went 0-for-1.
Aug 11 2020Sanchez was optioned to the Mets' alternate training site Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez spent two days on big-league roster, making his big-league debut off the bench Monday and recording an out in his lone plate appearance. He could return at some point this season but won't fill a significant role unless the Mets experience an injury crisis behind the plate.
Aug 9 2020Sanchez was recalled from the Mets' alternate training site Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez spent some time on the major-league roster earlier in the week but didn't appear in a game. The 23-year-old is unlikely to see much action while Wilson Ramos and Tomas Nido remain healthy.
Aug 6 2020Sanchez was optioned to the Mets' alternate site Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez has yet to appear in a game for the Mets this season, so it's no surprise to see him move back to New York's satellite camp as the team cuts its active roster down to 28. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2019 and hit .179/.277/.250 across 21 games.
Aug 3 2020Sanchez was recalled by the Mets on Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez's next big-league game will be his first. He's unlikely to fill a significant role for the Mets, as he's stuck behind Wilson Ramos and Tomas Nido. He's only appeared in 21 games at the Triple-A level and didn't look at all good there last year for Syracuse, hitting .179/.277/.250.
Mar 20 2020Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sanchez was added to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but he was unable to carve out a spot on the big-league roster before the suspension of spring training. The 23-year-old will return to Syracuse once the season resumes, where he posted a .179/.277/.250 slash line in 65 plate appearances last season.
