Jun 23 2025Rogers picked up a hold in a scoreless inning during Sunday's 9-5 win over the Red Sox, allowing two hits while striking out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 34-year-old surrendered a pair of singles, though Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was thrown out trying to stretch the first one into a double. Rogers was effective while earning his second hold in as many days, throwing 10 of his 12 pitches for strikes. The right-hander now owns a 1.24 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and a 31:4 K:BB across 36.1 innings in 38 appearances this season.
Jun 8 2025Rogers (3-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Atlanta, issuing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander entered the game with the Giants facing a 2-1 deficit and threw eight of his 12 pitches for strikes. Matt Chapman followed with a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the inning, giving Rogers his first win since April 24. The veteran reliever now owns a 1.48 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and a 28:4 K:BB across 30.1 innings in 32 appearances this season.
May 20 2025Rogers (2-2) took the loss in Monday's 3-1 defeat to the Royals, allowing two earned runs on two hits (one home run) over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander entered a scoreless game in the eighth inning, surrendering a double and a two-run homer. Rogers threw 15 of his 20 pitches for strikes but saw his scoreless streak end at five appearances. He now owns a 2.01 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and an 18:3 K:BB with nine holds and a blown save across 22.1 innings in 23 appearances.
May 2 2025Rogers (2-1) took the loss and picked up a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 defeat to the Rockies. He allowed two earned runs on three hits across one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered the game in the eighth inning and was tasked with protecting a 3-2 lead. However, the right-hander surrendered a double and two singles, allowing multiple runs for the first time during the 2025 campaign. The 34-year-old reliever has given up just three runs all season, recording a 1.65 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 14:3 K:BB across 16.1 innings in 17 appearances.
Apr 20 2025Rogers picked up a hold in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Angels, pitching a perfect inning and striking out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered the game in the eighth frame and retired the side, throwing eight of his 12 pitches for strikes. The veteran right-hander hasn't allowed a hit in his last three appearances, and he's been charged with only one earned run this season. Over 11 appearances in the 2025 campaign, Rogers has recorded a 0.87 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and a 9:2 K:BB with six holds across 10.1 innings.
Apr 10 2025Rogers struck out the side in a scoreless inning during Wednesday's 8-6 extra-inning win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered the game in the eighth frame, throwing nine of his 12 pitches for strikes during an extremely efficient inning. The right-handed reliever has yet to allow a run in seven appearances and has surrendered just one hit over his last four trips to the mound. Rogers owns a 0.00 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 6:2 K:BB, along with a win and four holds, over seven innings so far this season.
Jan 9 2025The Giants and Rogers avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.25 million contract Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers had been arbitration-eligible for a final time this offseason. The side-arming reliever has been one of baseball's busiest relievers over the last several seasons, most recently holding a 2.82 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 51:6 K:BB over 70.1 innings in 2024.
Aug 30 2024Rogers (3-4) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win Friday over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers got three groundouts in the top of the eighth inning, and Matt Chapman's three-run double gave the Giants a lead in the bottom of the frame. Aside from a disaster outing Aug. 23 versus the Mariners, Rogers has been sharp this month -- he hasn't allowed a run in any of his other 13 appearances this month. For the season, he has a 3.06 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 45:4 K:BB over 61.2 innings while adding a save and 29 holds. Rogers also leads the majors in appearances with 68, matching his total from each of the last two years, though he's more frequently been asked to get less than three outs.
Aug 9 2024Rogers (2-4) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Friday over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants' bullpen is in flux following the team's shock decision Friday to option out Camilo Doval, who had struggled recently as the closer. Rogers didn't receive a save situation Friday, but he pitched the ninth inning in a tied game, which is another common situation for closers to handle. That may have been a product of Ryan Walker pitching four the previous five days, as it's likely to be Walker who gets the most ninth-inning duties while Rogers -- who has often struggled in save situations -- remains in a setup role. For the season, Rogers has a 3.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 38:3 K:BB with one save, 25 holds and a blown save. In addition to Walker and Rogers, Jordan Hicks and Taylor Rogers should also get some late-inning looks, but this is a bullpen situation to monitor over the next few weeks.
Jul 26 2024Rogers (1-4) allowed two runs on two hits over one inning to take the loss Thursday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants erased a two-run deficit in the top of the eighth inning, but Rogers gave it all back in the bottom of the frame by giving up back-to-back solo home runs to Nick Ahmed and Shohei Ohtani. This was Rogers' second loss in the span of a week, and he's allowed three homers over his last 3.1 innings. The right-hander is at a 3.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 34:3 K:BB with a save and 21 holds over 48.2 innings. He allowed only seven homers in 74 innings a year ago, but he's given up six long balls already this season.
Jul 19 2024Rogers (1-3) allowed three runs on three hits over one-third of an inning to take the loss Friday versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers couldn't keep the game tied at 3-3 in the eighth inning, giving up a three-run home run to Jake Cave that proved to be decisive. Prior to Friday, Rogers had allowed just one run over his lat 10.2 innings. He's now at a 3.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 34:3 K:BB with a save and 19 holds across 45.2 innings this season. Rogers has generally been reliable in a setup role and does not appear to be in danger of losing that spot in the bullpen hierarchy.
Jun 25 2024Rogers (1-2) pitched a perfect inning and was awarded the win Tuesday over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants led from the second inning on during the bullpen game. Rogers was the first reliever to post a clean outing, and the official scorer handed him his first win of the campaign. Aside from a June 18 three-run meltdown versus these same Cubs in Chicago, Rogers has had a good month. He's kept runs off the board in his other 10 appearances while adding four holds in a setup role. For the season, he's at a 2.92 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB with a save, 12 holds and a blown save across 37 innings.
Jun 18 2024Rogers (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss Tuesday versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was on the hook for the Cubs' three-run rally in the eighth inning. This outing ended his nine-inning scoreless streak, during which he allowed just four baserunners while striking out eight and collecting four holds. Rogers has been generally effective in a setup role this year with a 3.12 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 25:2 K:BB over 34.2 innings, to go with one save and 12 holds. While he sees plenty of high-leverage work, Rogers has often struggled when given opportunities to close, so Camilo Doval's role as closer is not in question despite his own struggles this year.
May 26 2024Rogers (0-1) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch while only recording one out against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was filling in for a resting Camilo Doval, who had pitched the previous two games of the series. It was the second time in four days Rogers was called upon to fill in for the Giants' regular closer, but Sunday's outing was not nearly as successful as Thursday's, blowing the save and allowing the Mets to walk it off after entering the ninth with a two-run lead. Rogers' ERA ballooned by over a run, from 2.19 entering the game to 3.24 following the outing.
May 23 2024Rogers earned the save in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Pirates, working around a hit in a scoreless ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, with Camilo Doval having pitched three times in the last four days. The Pirates would get a couple of baserunners via an error and a Bryan Reynolds single, but Rogers would ultimately escape unscathed, securing his first save this season. The 33-year-old sidearmer has put together another solid start to the campaign -- his ERA is down to 2.19 with a 0.97 WHIP and 16 strikeouts with no walks across 24.2 innings. While Doval is firmly established as the closer in San Francisco, Rogers is the clear number-two option.
May 2 2024Rogers picked up a hold by pitching a perfect eighth inning in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Rogers has served as a setup man for the Giants this year. He's pitched fairly well with a 2.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 9:0 K:BB over 13.2 innings while adding six holds in 15 appearances. He's yet to pick up a save, as Camilo Doval has yet to miss out on a save opportunity. Rogers' lack of a high strikeout rate limits his appeal in most fantasy formats, though it's encouraging that the submariner has avoided issuing free passes so far.
Mar 3 2024Rogers has hit a batter, allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Cactus League play. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers is set to resume his role as a setup man in 2024. He's recorded 85 holds and 18 saves over the last four seasons. Rogers had a 3.04 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB over 74 innings in 2023 as one of the Giants' most-used relievers. The submariner doesn't have overpowering stuff, but he rarely gives up hard contact. Pitching at Oracle Park half the time will usually help to keep the ball in the yard on the rare occasions opposing hitters can square one up.
Sep 30 2023Rogers pitched a perfect inning to earn his 30th hold of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the Giants' volatility overall, Rogers and Camilo Doval have made quite a formidable duo at the back end of the bullpen. The hold was Rogers' 30th of the season, matching his career-high total from 2021. He's allowed five runs (four earned) over 9.2 innings in September and has a 3.04 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB over 74 innings this season. He's also collected two saves, six blown saves and a 4-5 record.
Aug 19 2023Rogers (4-5) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out three without walking a batter over two innings, taking the loss and a blown save Saturday versus Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers did his job in the seventh inning, but manager Gabe Kapler sent him back out for the eighth. Eddie Rosario took Rogers deep for a two-run home run that flipped the game around, handing the submariner his fifth blown save of the year, four of which have come in his last 11 appearances. In that span, the right-hander has given up seven runs over 11.2 innings. He's at a 2.73 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 48:15 K:BB with two saves and 24 holds over 59.1 innings this year, but he's been a bit less reliable than usual over recent weeks.
Jul 25 2023Rogers (4-4) allowed a run on two hits and struck out two without walking a batter over two innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers allowed the game-tying run in the top of the eighth inning before the Giants took the lead back a half-inning later. He's been scored on in five of his nine appearances in July, but he's collected two wins and three holds while taking just one blown save over 9.2 innings this month. For the season, the setup man has a 2.29 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 40:14 K:BB through 51 innings while racking up 21 holds and two saves.
Jul 18 2023Rogers (2-4) allowed a walk in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the win in Monday's suspended game versus the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game resumed Tuesday, and Rogers did his part to keep it tied at 2-2 in the ninth inning before the Giants pulled ahead in the 10th. It's been a shaky July for the right-hander, who has allowed four runs on nine hits and three walks over 7.2 innings this month. Despite the iffy results, he's collected a win, three holds and just one blown save. Rogers is at a 2.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 38:13 K:BB through 48 innings this season while adding a National League-leading 21 holds.
Jun 21 2023Rogers (2-4) allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the win over the Padres on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An error put runners on first and second with two outs, but Rogers escaped trouble. Joc Pederson then walked it off for the Giants with a bases-loaded walk. Rogers has both of his wins and six holds during a 10.1-inning scoreless streak over his last 11 appearances. The setup man is at a 1.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 26:11 K:BB, two saves and 14 holds through 34.2 innings on the season.
Jun 15 2023Rogers (1-4) pitched a perfect inning and struck out one to earn the extra-inning win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants were down to their last out at one point, but Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run home run to tie it in the ninth inning. Rogers kept it tied, and the team rallied again in the 10th. Rogers has strung together 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings, and it's been 12.2 frames since he last gave up an earned run. He's worked as a setup man to great effect with a 1.65 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 25:11 K:BB, 13 holds, two saves and a blown save over 32.2 innings this season. His 3.0 BB/9 and 3.63 FIP are both the worst marks of his career, however, which suggests he could experience regression.
May 21 2023Rogers (0-4) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk in one inning, taking the loss Saturday versus the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The leadoff batter reached on an error, and the Marlins were able to play small ball to get him home for the only run of the game. Rogers has largely settled down after ending April on a shaky note, and he remains in a setup role. The right-hander has a 2.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB with two saves and eight holds through 24.1 innings this season.
May 20 2023Rogers picked up the save Friday against the Marlins. He struck out two over 1.1 perfect innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers has allowed just one run over eight innings pitched this month. In fact, four of the right-hander's six total runs allowed this year came in the same series against the Padres in late April. He's been quite effective against the rest of the league, as evidenced by his 2.31 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. Closer Camilo Doval pitched three of the previous four days and should remain San Francisco's top option for saves.
May 14 2023Rogers (0-3) took the loss Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing a run on a hit and a walk over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers pitched a perfect eighth inning to keep the game tied at 1-1. He stayed in for the ninth, walking Christian Walker before Lourdes Gurriel tagged him for a walkoff double. All three of Rogers' losses have come in his last six outings, a span in which he's given up five runs over 5.2 innings. The reliever has a 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB while adding a save and seven holds through 20 innings overall this season.
Apr 30 2023Rogers (0-2) allowed two runs on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in one-third of an inning, taking the loss versus the Padres on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers appeared in both games in Mexico City this weekend, and he took the loss in each of those contests. He put two of the three batters he faced on base Sunday, and Camilo Doval was unable to get out of the jam. Rogers now has a 2.93 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through 15.1 innings. He'll certainly enjoy getting back to sea level soon, though a three-game stop in Houston starts Monday before the Giants are back home at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park over the weekend.
Apr 29 2023Rogers (0-1) gave up two runs on three hits and struck out one over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Saturday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game was played at altitude in Mexico City, making this a pitcher's worst nightmare. Rogers was the unlucky one who gave up a two-run home run to Manny Machado in the seventh inning, which put the Padres ahead for good. Rogers had allowed just one run over 14.1 innings prior to Saturday, and he has a still-solid 1.80 ERA and 0.80 WHIP with a 13:3 K:BB through 12 appearances this season. He's also picked up a save and three holds as a high-leverage option in the Giants' bullpen.
Mar 15 2023Rogers has allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts over 3.2 innings across four Cactus League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers doesn't strike out many batters with his sidearm delivery, so that's not a concern, but the increase in walks is a bit troublesome. He posted a 5.8 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 across 75.2 innings in a setup role last season, which also saw him earn 15 holds but no saves. The right-hander will compete with his twin brother, Taylor Rogers, for high-leverage spots, though Camilo Doval is locked in as the Giants' closer to begin the season.
Jan 13 2023Rogers signed a one-year, $1.675 million contract with the Giants on Friday to avoid arbitration, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While not nearly as effective as he was in 2021, Rogers still had a 3.57 ERA over 68 appearances in 2022. In 2023 he'll be a teammate of his twin brother, Taylor Rogers, who signed with the Giants last month.
Sep 20 2022Rogers (3-4) earned the win during Tuesday's 6-3 victory against the Rockies, allowing one hit and striking out in two scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers followed opener John Brebbia with two easy frames and fell in line for the win after San Francisco took the lead in the bottom of the third. The 31-year-old has been relegated to bullpen games and low-leverage usage since struggling through most of July and August and has responded by submitting 10.1 scoreless innings across six September appearances. Rogers 4.01 ERA is the lowest it's been since a 3.78 mark on May 20.
Sep 8 2022Rogers struck out one in a perfect inning during a 2-1 loss to the Brewers in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since the start of August, Rogers has allowed nine runs (six earned) over 15 innings spanning 14 appearances. He's added an 11:5 K:BB with a loss and two holds in that span. Rogers' relative inconsistency has prevented him from regaining a high-leverage role on a regular basis. For the year, he owns a 4.33 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 40:21 K:BB through 62.1 innings through 59 appearances.
Aug 9 2022Rogers (2-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers got the ball after the Giants tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, but he didn't handle the high-leverage spot well. He allowed a one-out single to Jurickson Profar and Juan Soto got aboard on catcher's interference before Manny Machado walked it off with a three-run home run. Rogers has been hit or miss since the start of July -- he's pitched 15 times in that span, allowing multiple runs five times. The right-hander has a 4.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB through 52 innings while adding 12 holds and a blown save in 50 appearances.
Jul 30 2022Rogers (2-3) struck out three in two perfect innings to earn the win Saturday over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Starter Jakob Junis didn't qualify for the win by going only four innings, with Rogers providing solid multi-inning relief. For much of July, Rogers' role has evolved into that of a middle reliever. He's allowed six runs on 10 hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts over 12.1 innings. He's posted a 4.56 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 29:16 K:BB in 47.1 innings overall while collecting 11 holds and a blown save through 45 outings.
Jul 14 2022Rogers' last two appearances have been longer than one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Entering the season, Rogers was expected to be part of the high-leverage mix. It appears his role has evolved a bit, as he's more often entered games in the middle innings (or even earlier in bullpen games). The change has worked out well -- he's allowed runs just once in his last eight appearances, posting a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his last 10 innings. For the season, the submariner has a 4.25 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB across 42.1 innings while picking up 11 holds and a 1-3 record in 40 appearances. With less late-inning work and poor strikeout numbers, Rogers is unlikely to carry much fantasy appeal.
Jun 22 2022Rogers (1-3) earned the win Tuesday versus Atlanta. He pitched two perfect innings and struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Anthony DeSclafani (ankle) going just three innings in his return, the Giants' bullpen was asked to soak up the remaining six innings. Rogers did his part well, keeping runs off the board for the third time in his last four outings. The right-hander has had some mixed results this year with a 5.01 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB through 32.1 innings across 32 appearances. He's added 10 holds and a blown save while continuing to function in a mostly high-leverage role despite some inconsistent pitching.
Jun 19 2022Rogers (0-3) took the loss Sunday versus the Pirates. He allowed a run on one hit without recording an out. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers allowed Jack Suwinski's third home run of the game, a walkoff blast in the bottom of the ninth inning. Consistency has been an issue for Rogers, who has yet to go more than four appearances in a row without allowing a run this season. He has a 5.34 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB in 30.1 innings, though he's also logged 10 holds in a setup role.
Jun 5 2022Rogers (0-2) allowed a run on one hit and a hit batter while striking out one in 1.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Gabe Kapler tried to get a second inning out of Rogers after he pitched a scoreless eighth, but he made a mess of the ninth. A single, a hit batter and a balk put two runners in scoring position, and Jesus Sanchez walked it off with a sacrifice fly. This ended Rogers' four-inning scoreless streak over his last three appearances, though it was his first loss since April 11. He owns a 6.04 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB while logging eight holds and a blown save across 22.1 innings as a high-leverage option this year.
May 25 2022Rogers allowed seven runs on seven hits in one-third of an inning during Tuesday's 13-12 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was tasked with the eighth inning, but he labored through the appearance before Camilo Doval was brought in for damage control. In his last four outings, Rogers has given up multiple runs three times, surrendering 11 runs in his last 3.1 innings. This brutal stretch has inflated his ERA to 7.41 with a 1.53 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB across 17 innings this year. He's picked up eight holds and a blown save, but his poor pitching lately could mean fewer high-leverage assignments for a while.
May 8 2022Rogers allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to record a hold in Saturday's 13-7 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants' bullpen has struggled lately, but Rogers has mostly avoided any issues individually, allowing just one run in five innings across his last six outings. The setup man protected a three-run lead in the eighth inning Saturday before the Giants tacked on some more runs. Rogers has a 2.31 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9:2 K:BB and seven holds in 11.2 innings this season.
Apr 17 2022Rogers allowed a hit in a scoreless inning in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers continues to do his best work in a setup role. He's already earned four holds in five appearances, though he also took a loss in the lone outing he's given up a run. The right-hander has historically been more of a groundball pitcher, so it's not surprising to see him post a 3:0 K:BB across 4.2 innings. As long as his performance is steady, he'll see high-leverage work, but he shouldn't be expected to pitch very often in the ninth inning.
Apr 15 2022Rogers (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list Friday, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was expected to rejoin the Giants on Friday, and he'll officially be available out of the bullpen for the team's matchup against the Guardians. He's picked up two holds and a loss in his first three appearances of the season while allowing a run in 2.2 innings.
Apr 13 2022Rogers (personal) is expected to be activated from the paternity list Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, and he's set to return to the team Friday after spending a few days with his newly-expanded family. He picked up a loss in his last appearance Monday and overall has allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and zero walks over 2.2 innings this season.
Apr 12 2022Rogers was placed on the paternity leave as expected Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers took the loss against his twin brother Taylor's Padres on Monday and will now be unavailable for a few days. He'll likely return during the weekend series in Cleveland. Yunior Marte was recalled to take his place on the roster.
Apr 11 2022Rogers (0-1) took the loss during Monday's 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Padres, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout in one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and immediately surrendered two infield singles, one of which would come around to score the deciding run. The 31-year-old found the zone with all 11 of his pitches and it was far from a poor outing, though all three of San Francisco's top relievers now have losses on the young season.
Apr 10 2022Rogers allowed a hit in a scoreless inning, picking up a hold in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers has holds in both of his appearances this season, adding two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. The submariner hasn't worked as late in games as fellow closer committee members Jake McGee and Camilo Doval, but Rogers has had the most success so far. Last season, he was effective in a setup role, logging a 2.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 13 saves and 30 holds in 81 innings. He'll likely continue to pitch often in high-leverage roles, but the 31-year-old probably isn't the answer yet if you're chasing saves in the Giants' bullpen. Dominic Leone also entered the conversation with a perfect ninth inning to close out Sunday's win.
Mar 31 2022Rogers (lower leg) allowed two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers got the last out of the fifth inning after starter Anthony DeSclafani ran into trouble. It's encouraging to see Rogers back in action after he took a comebacker off the leg Saturday versus the Reds. The submarine-throwing righty posted a 2.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 55:13 K:BB across 81 innings as one of the Giants most reliable relievers last year. He added 30 holds, 13 saves, six blown saves and a 7-1 record. Rogers is expected to be part of the late-inning mix, though Jake McGee is considered the early favorite to close games this season.
Mar 27 2022X-rays came back negative on Rogers' shin Sunday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was hit by a line drive off the bat of Joey Votto on Saturday and exited with the trainer immediately after. Though he may not re-take the mound for a few days, the injury should not affect his ability to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 26 2022Rogers left his spring outing Saturday against the Reds after getting hit by a comebacker, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers took a hard hit in his lower right leg from a one-hopper off the bat of Joey Votto and exited with a team trainer. If he suffered nothing worse than a bruise, he should still have time to get up to speed by Opening Day, but a more serious issue could send him to the injured list.
Sep 30 2021Rogers (7-1) got the win in Thursday's 5-4 victory over Arizona, allowing two hits with one strikeout across two scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was brought in for the eighth inning of a 4-4 game and stayed in for the ninth after retiring the side in order on 11 pitches. The final frame was a bit more eventful but an out the bases helped the 30-year-old navigate a pair of hits and he fell in line for the victory when San Francisco walked it off in the bottom of the inning. It was a nice rebound outing for Rogers, who surrendered two runs in one inning to Arizona on Tuesday, though he probably won't be available tomorrow after firing 26 pitches.
Sep 21 2021Rogers saved Tuesday's 6-5 victory against the Padres, allowing one hit with one strikeout in the ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After San Francisco took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, manager Gabe Kapler called upon Rogers to shut down San Diego and the righty delivered. The outing did have some drama as a leadoff error and single put two runners on with one out, but a Manny Machado line drive turned into a game-ending double play. Rogers should continue to see work at the end of games though not necessarily in the ninth inning, as Dominic Leone got the save on Saturday.
Sep 18 2021Rogers allowed three runs on three hits in one inning, taking a blown save in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander gave up a three-run home run to Travis d'Arnaud in the top of the ninth inning, although Donovan Solano tied the game for San Francisco with a solo shot to force extras. Rogers hadn't allowed a run in 14 innings entering Friday's contest. With Jake McGee (oblique) on the injured list, Gabe Kapler expects to mix-and-match with Rogers, Tony Watson and Dominic Leone handling late-inning duties going forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Rogers has pitched to a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 49:10 K:BB while adding 12 saves, 27 holds and six blown saves across 72 innings this year.
Sep 8 2021Rogers (6-1) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the win Wednesday over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was able to keep San Francisco within a run after he pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and the offense pulled ahead in the ninth. Rogers is in the midst of an impressive run, as he's posted 11 straight scoreless innings dating back to Aug. 18, and he's yielded just six hits with 10 strikeouts in that span. The setup man has a 1.72 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 45:9 K:BB through 68 innings this season as one of San Francisco's most utilized relievers.
Sep 2 2021Rogers (5-1) struck out the side in a perfect inning to earn the win Thursday over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander needed just 13 pitches (10 strikes) in the eighth inning, and San Francisco pulled ahead with a four-run rally to make him the pitcher of record. Rogers has given up three runs in 16 innings since the start of August, adding 12 strikeouts, three wins, a save and six holds in that span. For the year, he owns a 1.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 44:9 K:BB across 65 innings, primarily as a setup man.
Aug 26 2021Rogers tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his 12th save Thursday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was tasked with preserving a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning and was able to retire J.D. Davis, Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor on fly-ball outs, needing only eight pitches to do so. Jake McGee had earned the save for the Giants one night earlier and remains San Francisco's primary closer, but Rogers has now provided five straight scoreless outings. Rogers owns a sparkling 1.89 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 62 innings this season.
Aug 21 2021Rogers (4-1) logged a perfect inning and struck out two, earning the win Saturday over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander kept San Francisco within a run during the eighth inning, and LaMonte Wade's two-run homer in the ninth put Rogers in line for the win. Through 10 innings in August, Rogers has given up three runs on 11 hits and no walks while striking out six. The setup man has a 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 38:9 K:BB, 11 saves and 22 holds through 59 innings overall.
Aug 14 2021Rogers allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Friday's 5-4 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander successfully protected a three-run lead in the eighth inning before Jake McGee nearly made a mess of things in the ninth. With McGee struggling, Rogers may have a chance to work back into the closer role, although Zack Littell has also surfaced as an emergency stopper recently. Through 55 innings, Rogers has a 1.80 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 33:9 K:BB, 11 saves and 20 holds, although his FIP of 3.33 suggests he may not be immune from regression before the end of the season.
Aug 5 2021Rogers (3-1) pitched a perfect inning and earned the win Thursday versus Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starter Alex Wood lasted just four innings, San Francisco's bullpen picked up the slack with six no-hit frames in the extra-inning win. Rogers was able to keep the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, and he was in line for the win when the Giants went ahead in the 10th. While the right-hander hasn't recorded a save since July 21 and just two in his last 14 outings, he remains a key part of manager Gabe Kapler's late-inning plans. Rogers owns a 1.94 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB through 51 innings while adding 11 saves and 19 holds.
Jul 27 2021Rogers (2-1) earned the win Tuesday versus the Dodgers. He allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers bent but didn't break in the top of the eighth inning, putting two runners in scoring position with one out. A fielder's choice from Max Muncy and a flyout by Justin Turner ended the threat, and San Francisco took the lead in its half of the inning to put Rogers in line for the win. The right-hander remains an excellent high-leverage arm with a 1.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB through 47 innings. He's added 11 saves and 17 holds in 47 outings.
Jul 21 2021Rogers recorded the save in Wednesday's 4-2 triumph over the Dodgers, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: One night after blowing the save in the ninth, manager Gabe Kapler called on Rogers who came through against the heart of Los Angeles' order to lock down the victory. The clean inning lowered the submariner's ERA to an even 2.00 and San Francisco has now won 14 of his last 15 appearances.
Jul 11 2021Rogers struck out one in a perfect inning to earn a hold in Sunday's 3-1 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a rough stretch in early June, Rogers has bounced back well. He's allowed just one run in his last 11.1 innings across 12 appearances while adding two saves and seven holds in that span. The sidearm-throwing righty has been excellent for much of the season with a 1.47 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB in 43 innings overall while logging 10 saves and 17 holds. He's shared the bulk of the save chances with Jake McGee, who worked the ninth inning for his 19th save of the year Sunday.
Jul 5 2021Rogers saved Sunday's 5-2 victory over Arizona, walking one while recording the final out. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starter Anthony DeSclafani went 8.2 innings, Rogers entered to lock up the San Francisco victory with a Josh Reddick groundout. It took 17 pitches to record the out and with a quick turnaround Monday, Rogers' availability may be limited.
Jul 4 2021Rogers allowed a hit and struck out one in one inning to earn a hold in Saturday's 6-5 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander appears to have shifted back into a setup role, as he has accrued four holds and one save in his eight outings following a blown save June 9. Rogers hasn't allowed a run since that misstep, giving up only five hits while striking out eight in eight innings. Manager Gabe Kapler has alternated between Rogers and Jake McGee as the closer for stretches this season, as both have pitched well late in games. For the year, Rogers has a 1.36 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB while piling up nine saves and 14 holds in 39.2 innings.
Jun 16 2021Rogers earned the save against Arizona on Tuesday with a perfect inning during which he struck one one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It didn't look like the Giants would have any use for a closer early on, as Arizona built up a quick seven-run lead. However, San Francisco's offense stormed back and took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Rogers a shot at his ninth save. He had little trouble taking advantage of the opportunity, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning and striking out Asdrubal Cabrera to end the game. Rogers has emerged as the Giants' top closing option due to a standout 1.56 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 34.2 innings. His 4.7 K/9 and .239 BABIP provide some reason to doubt whether those numbers will hold up, however.
Jun 15 2021Rogers allowed two hits in a scoreless inning in Monday's 5-2 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old has allowed multiple baserunners in five of his last seven outings. Rogers appeared to take control of San Francisco's closer job in mid-May, but he worked the eighth inning Monday while Jake McGee threw a perfect ninth for the save. It's safe to say manager Gabe Kapler is going with a hot-hand approach in the ninth inning. Rogers has still put up excellent ratios with a 1.60 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 33.2 innings, adding eight saves and 11 holds.
Jun 9 2021Rogers allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in two innings, and was responsible for a blown save in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As reliable as the funky righty has been this season, he has converted just eight of his 12 save opportunities. Even so, Rogers still boasts a stellar 1.71 ERA and is tied for second in baseball with 30 relief appearances. Further, Wednesday was only the fourth appearance in which he's yielded an earned run.
Jun 5 2021Rogers earned the save against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on one hit in one inning. He struck out one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second game in a row, Rogers got the call with San Francisco ahead in the ninth inning. The Giants' defense committed two errors behind him to allow Chicago to pull within a run, but the right-hander got out of the inning with the save secure despite throwing only half of his 22 pitches for strikes. Rogers and Jake McGee each have eight saves on the season, but with five saves in his past eight appearances, Rogers may be the slight favorite for ninth-inning opportunities moving forward.
May 29 2021Rogers (1-0) allowed three runs on three hits in one inning but earned the win Friday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers gave up a game-tying three-run home run to Austin Barnes in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was just the second home run Rogers has given up in 27 appearances this year. He then got the win when San Francisco reclaimed the lead in the top of the 10th, and Jarlin Garcia was able to notch the save. Despite Friday's hiccup, Rogers has posted a 1.63 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB across 27.2 innings this season. He's seen more ninth-inning work than Jake McGee lately, but the back end of the Giants' bullpen is very much a committee situation.
May 26 2021Rogers earned the save against Arizona on Wednesday by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed three hits and struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers walked a high wire in the ninth frame, allowing singles to three of the first four batters he faced before striking out Ketel Marte and retiring Eduardo Escobar on a groundout. The right-hander now has six saves on the campaign, and he appears to be in a true tandem closer role with Jake McGee (11 saves). Rogers has the overall better numbers, registering a minuscule 0.68 ERA and 0.90 WHIP on the season. He hasn't yet posted the strikeout numbers of a typical closer, however, fanning only 14 batters across 26.2 frames.
May 17 2021Rogers picked up the save after allowing a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Monday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers gave up a single to begin the frame, but he induced a ground ball for a double play and retired the final batter on a flyout to center field. The right-hander has been locked in of late, piecing together 10 consecutive scoreless outings, giving up five hits and fanning three over that stretch (10 innings).
May 16 2021Rogers tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save against the Pirates on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers had pitched in two of the last three games, but he was brought in to preserve a 4-1 lead and earned his fourth save of the season Sunday. The right-hander has posted a 0.76 ERA and 0.76 WHIP in 23.2 innings across 21 relief appearances in 2021.
May 14 2021Rogers pitched a scoreless ninth inning and allowed one hit to earn the save in Thursday's 3-1 win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers got the call in the ninth since Jake McGee had pitched in both games in Texas prior to the Giants' scheduled off day Wednesday. The 30-year-old Rogers did well, earning his third save. He's also picked up 10 holds and two blown saves in 21 outings. The right-hander has a 0.83 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB across 21.2 innings in a high-leverage role.
May 10 2021Rogers pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn a hold in Monday's 3-1 win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers is already up to 10 holds, two saves and two blown saves in 20 appearances. He's been excellent as the primary setup man to Jake McGee. Rogers has a 0.87 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB in 20.2 innings. The sidearm-throwing right-hander is thriving in a high-leverage role for the NL West-leading Giants.
May 8 2021Rogers pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn a hold in Friday's 5-4 win over San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Gabe Kapler indicated Rogers could get a look at ninth-inning duties with Jake McGee struggling, but the skipper opted to keep the hierarchy at the back of the bullpen intact Friday. It worked out just fine, with Rogers collecting his ninth hold and McGee pitching a scoreless ninth inning for the save. The 30-year-old Rogers has a 0.96 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 18.2 innings. He's picked up a pair of saves when McGee wasn't available -- Rogers is likely to stick in a high-leverage role throughout the season.
May 5 2021Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Wednesday that Rogers may be in the mix for more work in save situations, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kapler's comments come less than 24 hours after closer Jake McGee was roughed up for four earned runs while recording just two outs in the Giants' loss to the Rockies in the second half of a doubleheader. Rogers, meanwhile, logged a clean inning in front of McGee to reduce his season ERA to a microscopic 1.02. Though Rogers doesn't miss many bats (5.1 K/9), he's been masterful at inducing weak contact and has already been battle tested in the ninth inning with a couple of saves on his ledger this season. With McGee having now given up at least one run in five of his last six appearances, his hold on the closer gig appears to be loosening, so Rogers makes sense as a speculative pickup in the event McGee fails to right the ship in his subsequent outings.
May 4 2021Rogers pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered the game with a 6-2 lead to protect, and he put in another strong inning. Unfortunately for the Giants, Jake McGee and Camilo Doval melted down in the seventh inning. Rogers has a tiny 1.02 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 17.2 innings this season. He's been a jack-of-all-trades with two saves, eight holds and two blown saves. With McGee struggling recently, Rogers could see more save chances coming his way in the near future.
Apr 26 2021Rogers allowed one run on three hits and struck out a batter but was able to pick up his second save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Marlins on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers allowed a run on three singles in the ninth to give the Marlins some life but got Jazz Chisholm to end the game with groundout while stranding the potential tying run on second. It was the 30-year-old's first run allowed since April 7. He's been dominant in high leverage situations so far with a 1.23 ERA to go along with eight holds and two saves in 14 appearances.
Apr 18 2021Rogers picked up his first save of the season Sunday against the Marlins after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers tossed seven of his 11 pitches for strikes and closed the door on the Marlins with little trouble, retiring the three batters he faced -- Corey Dickerson, Miguel Rojas and Jorge Alfaro -- via groundouts. Rogers has not allowed a run in any of his last six outings and should operate as the Giants' closer while Jake McGee is on the COVID-19 list.
Apr 17 2021Rogers pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with a hit and a strikeout to earn a hold, but the Giants took a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Marlins on Saturday. He also hit a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers entered the game with one out in the seventh inning. When he hit Garrett Cooper with a pitch, that loaded the bases, but Rogers was able to get Corey Dickerson to groundout, ending the threat. The right-hander also worked the eighth inning to notch his seventh hold of the season. Rogers has a 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB across 9.2 innings in nine appearances this season. He continues to work as the setup man to closer Jake McGee, who blew his first save of the season Saturday.
Apr 14 2021Rogers pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one walk to earn a hold in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers is flourishing as setup man to closer Jake McGee. The 30-year-old Rogers collected his fourth hold in the last five days, so he could see his workload managed in the near future. He's pitched to a 1.13 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 7:3 K:BB and six holds across eight innings overall. The sidearm pitcher won't blow batters away with velocity, but he's been effective nonetheless.
Apr 11 2021Rogers pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one walk to earn a hold in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers helped protect a 3-0 lead when he entered with two outs in the seventh inning. He also worked through the eighth. He's posted a 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and four strikeouts over six innings this season. He's racked up four holds while also taking a pair of blown saves as the primary setup man to Jake McGee.
Apr 10 2021Rogers allowed a hit and struck out one over one inning to earn a hold in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers worked the eighth inning and only allowed a leadoff single to Trevor Story before retiring the next three batters. The 30-year-old Rogers is already up to three holds with a 1.93 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and four strikeouts across 4.2 innings. It hasn't all been smooth -- he's also been charged with two blown saves in five outings. The right-hander is likely to continue working as a setup man to Jake McGee.
Apr 7 2021Rogers gave up one run on one hit and struck out one in one inning in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Padres. He was charged with a blown save. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers allowed a game-tying solo home run to Wil Myers in the eighth inning. Through four outings, Rogers has produced mixed results -- he's got two holds and two blown saves. The right-hander carries a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 3:1 K:BB across 3.2 innings so far. Jake McGee's stellar start to the year has relegated Rogers to a setup role to begin 2021.
Apr 6 2021Rogers pitched a scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout to earn a hold in Monday's 3-2 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was one of four Giants relievers to keep a fairly clean pitching line as the bullpen was tasked with covering four innings Monday. The 30-year-old has collected two holds in three appearances this season, allowing an unearned run, two hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 2.2 innings. Rogers has slotted in as a setup man behind Jake McGee early in 2021, but he can't be counted out for save opportunities down the line this season.
Apr 2 2021Rogers walked one and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn a hold in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers was charged with a blown save in Thursday's Opening Day loss to the Mariners. Manager Gabe Kapler showed confidence in the 30-year-old right-hander by putting him into a high-leverage situation for a second straight game. Rogers responded well with a clean inning to help preserve the Giants' three-run lead. Rogers is expected to be part of a closer committee this year, but it appears Jake McGee has the edge for ninth-inning duties to start the season.
Sep 9 2020Rogers (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Mariners after tossing a scoreless inning. He allowed one hit and one walk while fanning one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers now has posted back-to-back scoreless appearances out of the bullpen after allowing three runs in two outings (1.2 innings) earlier this month. Rogers has three saves but has also blown two other save chances this season and, while he should remain as a reliable late-inning arm for San Francisco, it seems he will remain behind Tony Watson in the save pecking order.
Sep 6 2020Rogers struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning Sunday, earning the save in a 4-2 win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers needed just 12 pitches to cruise through the ninth inning Sunday and pick up us third save of the season. It was a promising outing for the 29-year-old after he'd allowed three runs over his previous two appearances, including a blown save chance on Sep. 2. Still, Rogers is sporting a 6.00 ERA across 21 innings this season.
Aug 29 2020Rogers pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers didn't record a strikeout, but he retired David Peralta, Christian Walker and Eduardo Escobar in order for his second save of the year. Tony Watson previously pitched a scoreless eighth inning in the contest, allowing one walk and adding a strikeout. It's unclear if Saturday's outing gives Rogers an edge for ninth-inning duties -- he has struggled with a 5.71 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 17.1 innings this season. Rogers has six holds, a blown save and a 1-3 record on his line.
Aug 28 2020Rogers has not allowed an earned run while striking out 10 in eight innings over eight appearances since blowing a save against the Dodgers on Aug. 9. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He recorded a save against the Astros on Aug. 11, and that was the last save opportunity anyone on the Giants has seen, despite the fact they went on a seven-game winning streak earlier this month. Rogers and Tony Watson appear to be the class of the bullpen, but it is unclear who would get the next save chance, given how far and few between those chances have been.
Aug 12 2020Rogers earned the save Tuesday against the Astros after pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers blew a save Sunday against the Dodgers, but he bounced back with a strong performance against Houston, and he has now delivered four scoreless outings in his last five appearances. He has gone 1-3 with a 10.61 ERA, however, as he has allowed multiple runs three times -- including four or more twice.
Aug 9 2020Rogers (1-3) allowed two runs on two hits and recorded his only out via strikeout, taking the loss Sunday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers gave up a three-run home run to A.J. Pollock in the seventh inning, which gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead and left Rogers with the loss. The 29-year-old has five holds but also carries an unsightly 11.88 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 8.1 innings this season. He's had three bad outings and six clean ones -- Rogers has been too inconsistent to have much fantasy appeal in standard mixed leagues.
Jul 30 2020Rogers (1-2) took the loss Thursday, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out two in one inning versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers did just fine in the ninth inning, retiring the side cleanly, but it all fell apart when he retook the mound in the 10th. Rogers failed to record an out in the extra inning, and the damage was far too much for the Giants to overcome. The 29-year-old had produced three straight scoreless appearances after a similar blow-up on Opening Day against the Dodgers. Rogers' inconsistent pitching in non-save situations will likely keep him behind Trevor Gott and Tony Watson for closer duties in 2020.
Jul 23 2020Rogers (0-1) was charged with the Opening Day loss at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, surrendering four runs on three hits while recording just two outs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With one out under his belt in the seventh, it all went downhill for Rogers after Mookie Betts singled and sparked a five-run rally, including a double from Cody Bellinger and a two-run single from Enrique Hernandez. Despite the loss, the 29-year-old is certainly in the conversation for saves this year. Rogers posted a 1.02 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across 17 appearances a season ago.
Jul 15 2020Manager Gabe Kapler suggested Rogers will fill a flexible role but could see save opportunities this season, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. "He's one guy we've been very clear and upfront with. There's been extra conversations with [Rogers]," Kapler said. "We see him as a Swiss army knife, a guy who can bounce back from a two-inning stint and give us an inning the next day. ... We also see his ability to perform in a traditional reliever's role. But he's mentally equipped to handle high-leverage situations. The fastball-slider combination can play to both right-handed and left-handed hitters. We also have data over the last three years that makes us confident in that assessment." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's hard to know what exactly to make of this quote, though it's clear Rogers is going to play a big role in the San Francisco bullpen this season. Perhaps a tell: Kapler saying Rogers is "mentally equipped" for high-leverage duty, and his mention of "data over the last three years," perhaps alluding to Rogers closing in the minors in recent seasons. The submariner got the save opportunity in Saturday's intrasquad game and allowed a walkoff hit, per Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com, and the Giants are probably not going to provide a lot of save chances in a short season. That said, it sounds like Rogers has Kapler's trust, and it's not out of the question Rogers ends up seeing the lion's share of those save chances over Tony Watson, even if he lacks the dominance typically associated with closing.
Feb 26 2020Manager Gabe Kapler said Tuesday, "We're excited about Rogers," after he retired all three batters faced in Tuesday's spring game against the White Sox, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR Radio reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers made his major-league debut in 2019 and delivered a 1.02 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB over 17.2 innings while recording five holds. The 29-year-old submariner may begin 2020 in a high-leverage role given San Francisco's lack of established back-end options in the bullpen.
Sep 23 2019Rogers fired two scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out three to earn his fifth hold of the season in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers has been on a roll since joining the majors Aug. 27, posting a 1.23 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and a 5.5 K/BB ratio through 14 appearances. The submarine reliever isn't blowing batters away with a low-80s fastball, but his deceptive delivery and frisbee slider have kept opposing hitters off balance. The trust Bruce Bochy showed in Rogers by letting him pitch two innings against a loaded Braves' lineup is telling. The 28-year-old rookie has quickly become a high-leverage reliever for the Giants, and he is making a strong case for a bullpen spot out of the gates next season.
Sep 7 2019Rogers fired a scoreless inning while walking one and striking out two in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers picked up his first major-league hold after sitting down three of the Dodgers' toughest right-handed hitters in the seventh inning. The submarine righty has experienced early success with a 1.35 ERA over 6.2 innings since being called up Aug. 27. With Reyes Moronta and Trevor Gott both on the 60-day injured list, Rogers could find himself in more high-leverage situations against righty-heavy portions of opposing lineups.
Aug 27 2019Rogers had his contract selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
