Jun 25 2025Morejon earned the save in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Nationals, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Robert Suarez serving a suspension, the Padres turned to Morejon in the ninth inning Wednesday to close out a one-run victory. The left-hander made quick work of the Nats, retiring the side on just seven pitches, to earn his second save this season. Morejon has been dominant of late, allowing just one unearned run in his last 15.2 innings -- he's allowed three hits while striking out 17 in that span. His ERA is down to 2.04 with a 0.82 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB across 35.1 innings this season. However, with Suarez eligible to return Saturday, Morejon figures to remain in a setup role moving forward.
May 7 2025Morejon (1-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk while retiring one batter in relief. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: When Morejon entered in the seventh inning, San Diego was clinging to a one-run lead. By the end of the frame, New York racked up 10 runs, four of which were charged to the left-hander. Three of those crossed the plate after Morejon had departed, and the walk he issued was intentional, but it was nonetheless an uncharacteristically poor performance by the reliever given his previous results this season. Entering Tuesday, Morejon owned a 1.56 ERA and had held the opponent scoreless in 15 of his 17 appearances.
Mar 30 2025Morejon earned the save in Saturday's 1-0 win over Atlanta, issuing one walk while striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old southpaw came in to finish out Saturday's game, as usual closer Robert Suarez had been deployed in each of the first two games of the series. Morejon was able to pitch around a leadoff walk and finished things off by punching out Drake Baldwin. Morejon logged two saves last season, but he could see more opportunities in 2025 on days when Suarez is resting.
Feb 1 2025Morejon will enter spring training as a reliever, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres are in need of a fifth starter with Joe Musgrove expected to miss all or most of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last October. Morejon has some experience starting in the majors and made some sense as a candidate for the open rotation spot, but Padres manager Mike Shildt said Saturday that the southpaw "has found a really nice niche in the bullpen" and is expected to continue in that role. Morejon enjoyed his best big-league campaign in 2024, posting a 2.83 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 71:21 K:BB while notching two saves and 12 holds over 63.2 innings spanning 60 relief appearances.
Jan 9 2025The Padres and Morejon avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract Thursday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was in his second year of arbitration eligibility. The left-hander was excellent out of the San Diego bullpen in 2024, putting up a 2.83 ERA and 71:21 K:BB over 63.2 regular-season innings. However, the club is thinking about stretching him out this spring as a candidate to join its rotation.
Dec 12 2024The Padres could move Morejon into the rotation next season. AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres currently have only three starters locked into their 2025 rotation in Dylan Cease, Michael King and Yu Darvish, and they're entertaining trade offers on Cease. Morejon thrived out of the bullpen last season, posting a 2.83 ERA and 71:21 K:BB over 63.2 innings. However, he has past starting experience and throws five pitches, so stretching him out would make sense. What role the Padres ultimately decide on for Morejon could depend largely on what moves president of baseball operations A.J. Preller makes this winter.
Sep 15 2024Morejon allowed an unearned run over one inning without giving up a hit or a walk, earning the save in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Regular closer Robert Suarez worked the ninth inning and took a blown save, but the Padres were able to gain the lead in the 10th. Morejon then closed things out, earning his second career save, both of which have come over his last 15 appearances. In that span, he's allowed seven runs (six earned) across 13.2 innings. The southpaw is at a 3.00 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB with 10 holds through 60 innings this year, emerging as an option for high-leverage work in a talented Padres bullpen.
Aug 8 2024Morejon earned a save against the Pirates on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Robert Suarez has worked as the Padres' closer this season, but he was deployed in the ninth inning with the score tied Wednesday. The contest ended up going to an extra frame, and San Diego took the lead with a three-run top of the 10th. Recently acquired Tanner Scott was asked to preserve the lead in the bottom of the frame, but he walked three straight batters to force in a run before Morejon was called upon to clean up the mess. The southpaw's outing didn't begin well -- his first offering was a wild pitch that allowed another Pirate to cross the plate to make the score 9-8 -- but Morejon rebounded impressively, retiring the next three batters without allowing the tying run to score. As a reward, he earned his first career save in his 90th MLB appearance. Morejon has been a solid bullpen piece for the Padres this season, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB through 47.1 innings.
Jul 27 2024Morejon picked up a hold against Baltimore on Friday despite allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon had been effective coming into Friday, tossing seven straight scoreless outings and posting a 2.18 ERA on the campaign. That number shot up to 2.57 after the rough appearance against Baltimore, during which the southpaw allowed a solo homer and a double among the three hits he surrendered. Morejon was nonetheless credited with a hold, which has become fairly commonplace for him of late. After not picking up a hold in any of his first 14 appearances this season, Morejon has recorded eight across his past 20 outings.
Apr 12 2024The Padres recalled Morejon from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon pitched two-thirds of an inning during San Diego's series in South Korea but was optioned to Triple-A ahead of its domestic opener. He's given up two runs across 6.1 minor-league frames and will now return to the Padres to provide additional bullpen depth. Pedro Avila was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Mar 28 2024The Padres optioned Morejon to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was on the roster for the team's two games in South Korea against the Dodgers but didn't make the cut for the Padres' domestic opener. He'll work in relief at El Paso.
Jan 11 2024Morejon signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Thursday, avoiding arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Elbow and knee injuries limited Morejon to just eight big-league appearances last season. The 24-year-old southpaw surrendered seven earned runs over nine innings when healthy and will likely return to a middle relief role to begin 2024.
Aug 17 2023Morejon (knee) has made his last two rehab appearances at Triple-A El Paso, covering 1.2 innings and allowing an unearned run on one hit and no walks while striking out three between the two outings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon shifted his rehab assignment to El Paso after he struck out two in a scoreless inning for the Padres' rookie-level Arizona Complex League club Aug. 4. The right-hander has been on the shelf since July 16 with right knee inflammation, an injury he picked up while fielding a bunt. Morejon could be on the cusp of being activated from the 15-day injured list, but he's unlikely to hold a major role out of the Friars bullpen once reinstated.
Aug 6 2023Morejon (knee) kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment with the Padres' Arizona Complex League club Friday, striking out two batters in one scoreless inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon went on the injured list July 16 due to a right knee strain. It was the second significant injury of the season for the southpaw, who missed over two months to start the campaign with a left elbow strain. Morejon has been limited to eight big-league appearances this season, allowing seven earned runs and posting an 8:5 K:BB over nine innings.
Jul 16 2023Morejon (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-hander reportedly suffered a right knee strain in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Morejon will undergo imaging to determine the full extent of the injury. Right-hander Matt Waldron was recalled to take Morejon's place on the active roster.
Jul 2 2023Morejon did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two hits and two walks over three scoreless innings against the Reds. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon made his first start since 2021 in place of Yu Darvish (illness) and was stretched out to three frames after going fewer than two innings in each of his first four appearances of the season. The outing was a strong bounceback for the 24-year-old, who allowed three runs in his last appearance after having not allowed a run in his first three big league games in 2023. If Darvish is forced to miss extended time, Morejon could receive another starting look, however, it's likely he'll remain in the pen for San Diego.
Jun 21 2023San Diego recalled Morejon from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon is up in the majors for the first time in 2023 and will presumably fill a middle-relief role for the Padres. He was sidelined until late May due to left elbow inflammation but had since registered a 1.29 ERA with nine strikeouts across seven innings at the Triple-A level.
Jun 6 2023San Diego activated Morejon (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon is recovered from the elbow sprain he suffered back in mid-March, but the Padres will keep him on the farm for now. He allowed four earned runs over 4.2 innings (four appearances) during a recent rehab stint at Low-A Lake Elsinore.
May 20 2023Morejon (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon is expected to work in two-to-three inning stints as he works his way back from the elbow inflammation that has sidelined him for all of 2023. The left-hander is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list May 31, and the Padres could either stretch the left-hander out as a starter or use him as a multi-inning reliever around the start of June.
Mar 30 2023Morejon (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was diagnosed with a left elbow sprain in mid-March and will be sidelined through at least late May. The oft-injured 24-year-old southpaw doesn't carry an exact recovery timetable at the moment.
Mar 17 2023MRI scans on Morejon's elbow came back negative Friday, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After having to leave Sunday's contest against Oakland early with elbow soreness, Morejon's MRI results bring some good news for the 24-year-old lefty. He will be treated for elbow inflammation going forward, and there is still no official word on how much time, if any, he will miss to start the season.
Mar 13 2023Morejon (elbow) will undergo an MRI this week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon had to depart Sunday's Cactus League game versus the Athletics due to soreness above his elbow. Arm injuries are, unfortunately, nothing new for the left-hander, and he would appear likely to need another IL stint to begin the season even if he receives relatively good news from the MRI.
Mar 12 2023Morejon left Sunday's game against the Athletics with discomfort in the back of his arm, above his elbow, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is unfortunately all too familiar for Morejon, who has never topped 65.1 innings in a season despite the fact the Padres have continued to try developing him as a starting pitcher. He should be considered out indefinitely and any hopes of him breaking camp in the big-league rotation are likely dashed.
Sep 5 2022Morejon didn't record an out in an appearance against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres put themselves back into the game with a three-run top of the seventh inning that closed their deficit to one run, but Morejon couldn't contain Los Angeles in the bottom of the frame. The southpaw allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, and Trayce Thompson ended his outing by slamming a three-run, pinch-hit homer to left field. Morejon allowed only one run over 14.2 innings in August, but a pair of four-run blowouts in 19 appearances this season has his ERA at 4.50.
Aug 18 2022Morejon (2-0) was credited with the win against the Marlins on Wednesday. He struck out three batters over 1.2 scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Diego got off to a big early lead, but starter Mike Clevinger wasn't sharp and exited after allowing three of the four batters he faced in the fifth inning to reach base. Morejon came on and hit the first batter he faced with a pitch, but he rebounded by striking out the following two hitters. The southpaw remained in the game for the sixth frame and retired the side on 11 pitches. Morejon has been excellent through seven appearances in August, pitching 7.2 scoreless innings and posting a 7:1 K:BB.
Jul 13 2022Morejon (shoulder) gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in one inning during Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon missed about three weeks with shoulder inflammation. The 23-year-old southpaw has allowed at least one run in three of his four appearances this season, though he's also picked up one win. He's added a 2:1 K:BB with a 4.76 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 5.2 innings. Morejon is expected to fill a middle-relief role going forward, and his background as a starter could allow him to cover multiple innings.
Jul 5 2022Morejon (shoulder) will join Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Assuming the Padres are keeping Morejon in the bullpen, the lefty doesn't figure to need more than one or two rehab appearances before being activated. Morejon allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings of relief before going on the injured list June 23 with shoulder inflammation.
Jul 3 2022Morejon (shoulder) started playing catch again Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was placed on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation June 23, but Padres manager Bob Melvin suggested that the issue isn't a major concern. Still, the organization is likely to take a careful approach with the southpaw given the fact that Morejon is 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery. Regarding the shoulder injury, Melvin stated, "I don't think it's anything serious -- he's obviously somebody we're going to be careful with after what he went through."
Jun 23 2022Morejon was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon returned from Tommy John surgery in early June and also spent time on the COVID-19 injured list. He's been effective when available, allowing only two earned runs across 4.2 frames while picking up a win Wednesday. Given his already significant history of arm injuries, this is a concerning development.
Jun 16 2022The Padres reinstated Morejon from the COVID-19-related injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon's activation leaves right-hander Mike Clevinger as the only player left on the Padres' COVID-19 IL. Since he was only out for five days, Morejon didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being reinstated. He'll likely handle a low-leverage multi-inning role out of the San Diego bullpen moving forward.
Jun 11 2022Morejon was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon made his season debut earlier in the week, but he will have to clear the league's protocols before he makes his next appearance.
Jun 8 2022Morejon tossed two perfect innings against the Mets on Tuesday, striking out one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon recently completed his rehab from Tommy John surgery and made his first major-league appearance since April 11, 2021. He needed only 18 pitches to retire all six batters he faced, throwing 14 strikes -- including four of the swinging variety. The southpaw will likely work mostly in low-leverage situations for the time being.
Jun 7 2022Morejon was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was sent to the minors after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday, but he'll join the Padres' bullpen after Robert Suarez (knee) was placed on the IL on Tuesday. Morejon hasn't pitched in the majors since April of 2021 after he underwent Tommy John surgery, but he'll likely serve as a long reliever now that he's back with the big-league club.
Jun 6 2022Morejon (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon began a rehab assignment May 10 and allowed five runs (four earned) in 10.1 innings over seven appearances (two starts). While the left-hander is now healthy, he'll remain in the minors for now. Morejon has big-league experience as a starter and as a reliever, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him join the Padres at some point this year.
May 10 2022Morejon (elbow) tossed three innings for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his first trip to the mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of last year, Morejon threw 40 pitches -- 29 of which were strikes. He gave up a home run to the first batter he faced but then retired nine of his final 10 hitters. The left-hander has started eight of the 16 major-league games in which he has pitched but will likely be used out of the bullpen when he returns to the big club given San Diego's stacked starting rotation. Morejon is eligible to return from the injured list June 7.
Mar 16 2022Morejon (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2021, so it's no surprise he'll open the 2022 campaign on the 60-day IL. The 23-year-old lefty is throwing bullpen sessions and hopes to be ready for game action before the All-Star break in July.
Apr 23 2021Morejon (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon's placement on the 60-day injured list is simply procedural since he underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday. The left-hander will miss the remainder of the 2021 campaign and will likely be sidelined for a sizable portion of the 2022 season while he recovers.
Apr 21 2021Padres manager Jayce Tingler said that Morejon (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Reports surfaced earlier Tuesday that Morejon was recommended to undergo the procedure after getting a second opinion on his left forearm/elbow strain, and he apparently wasted no time going under the knife. Morejon will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2021 season, and likely, a sizable portion of the 2022 campaign while he recovers from surgery. The Padres plan to activate Dinelson Lamet (elbow) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday to fill Morejon's spot in the rotation.
Apr 20 2021Morejon will require Tommy John surgery on his left elbow after undergoing an MRI, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old was initially diagnosed with a left forearm strain last week after exiting during the first inning of his second start of the season, but further examination revealed a worst-case scenario. Morejon will miss the rest of the season and will also be sidelined for at least the first half of the 2022 campaign. Ryan Weathers has joined San Diego's rotation for the short term while Dinelson Lamet (elbow) is set to come off the injured list for his season debut this week.
Apr 12 2021Morejon was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was removed in the first inning of Sunday's start against the Rangers due to his injury. The southpaw underwent an MRI, but the results of the test aren't yet known. The Padres plan to stay on turn in the rotation in the coming days, but Nabil Crismatt was recalled in a corresponding move and could fill in as a starter if needed.
Apr 11 2021The Padres diagnosed Morejon with a left elbow/forearm strain after he was removed in the first inning of his start Sunday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon will be re-evaluated Monday before the Padres gain a better sense of how long the lefty will be sidelined, but a trip to the 10-day injured list is almost certainly on tap even if follow-up tests reveal no ligament damage. Fortunately for San Diego, the team should have some reinforcement for the rotation waiting in the wings, as Dinelson Lamet (elbow) looks like he could be ready to return from the IL after a successful throwing session earlier this weekend, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. If Lamet isn't ready to pitch when Morejon's next turn in the rotation comes up Friday against the Dodgers, the Padres could turn to one of Ryan Weathers or Nabil Crismatt for a spot start, or deploy the two long relievers in a tandem.
Apr 6 2021Morejon allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two batters over four innings in Monday's loss to the Giants. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both runs Morejon gave up came via solo home runs. The 22-year-old left-hander was taken deep to center by Darin Ruf to open up the second inning, then Evan Longoria drove a sinker out of the yard to put the Giants up 2-1 in the fourth. Morejon never pitched more than three innings in 2020, as he primarily served as an opener; however, the Padres stretched him out to be a starter this spring, and he should remain in the rotation until Dinelson Lamet (elbow) is able to come off the injured list. His next opportunity to pitch is expected to come against the Rangers on Sunday.
Mar 18 2021Morejon allowed two runs over 3.2 innings in Thursday's Cactus League contest versus Oakland, yielding four hits and two walks while striking out one. He is the "clear favorite" to grab the fifth-starter role at the beginning of the campaign, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon is among a group of pitchers vying for a rotation spot that is looking likely to open as a result of Dinelson Lamet's (elbow) probable absence at the start of the campaign. Morejon appears to have an inside track on the role thanks to a solid spring in which he has notched a 3.38 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB over 10.2 innings. The 22-year-old also has an advantage by virtue of already having started six games in his brief big-league career.
Mar 14 2021Morejon hurled three innings in Saturday's Cactus League contest versus Arizona, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon surrendered a leadoff home run to Ketel Marte, but he had little trouble with the Diamondbacks thereafter. The southpaw has allowed only two runs through seven innings this spring while striking out 10. His six walks are worrisome, but Morejon eased some of that concern by refusing to yield a free pass Saturday. The 22-year-old is expected to break camp with San Diego, though his role has yet to be laid out. Morejon is in contention for a rotation spot, but he could also function in a multiple-inning relief role.
Mar 10 2021Morejon is a candidate for a rotation role to begin the campaign, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There is some question about whether Dinelson Lamet (elbow) will re ready by the start of the campaign, which could open the door for one of the Padres' young pitchers to temporarily claim a rotation spot. Morejon might be the favorite in that scenario given that his theoretical competitors for the role (MacKenzie Gore and Ryan Weathers) have each yet to throw a regular-season big-league inning. Morejon has thus far allowed only one run over four innings this spring while racking up five strikeouts, though his six walks are a concern.
Feb 26 2021Morejon will start San Diego's first Cactus League game Sunday against Seattle, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Morejon doesn't currently project to be among San Diego's top five starters, the team has decided to stretch him out to start during camp. There's a decent likelihood the Padres will use a six-man rotation to kick off the campaign, and Morejon would be a top candidate to start games in that scenario. As such, his performance during spring training could set up his opportunities in 2021.
Feb 19 2021Morejon is likely to spend the beginning of spring camp stretching into a starter, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon split time last season between the bullpen and the rotation, though he never went longer than three innings. His high pitch count came in a postseason start against the Dodgers when he threw 50 pitches and allowed three earned runs over two innings. Morejon has started each of his 43 minor-league appearances, however, and San Diego clearly sees him as a rotation option in the long term. The left-hander is likely to open the season in the big-league bullpen but could be in line to shift to the rotation if a need arises.
Oct 9 2020Morejon picked up the loss as the opener in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks in just two innings while striking out two batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The brief outing was seemingly the plan all along, as Morejon had averaged 2.03 innings per appearance in his 11 previous outings this season. He retired the side in the first inning but struggled in the second, allowing three baserunners and one run. He stayed in the game to start the third but allowed both of the first two batters to reach base, both of whom would come around to score. It was a disappointing outing for the talented young lefty, but the mere fact that he was trusted to open the game with the Padres' season on the line indicates how highly the team thinks of him.
Oct 7 2020Morejon will start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday, Bob Scanlan of FOX Sports San Diego reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 21-year-old will take the mound with the Padres' season potentially on the line. Morejon won't operate as a traditional starter as his highest pitch count this season was 41 pitches, but he should be able to cover a few innings if he's effective. The left-hander has provided three scoreless frames in the playoffs and had a 4.66 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB over 19.1 innings during the regular season.
Sep 27 2020Morejon allowed one run on three hits across 2.2 innings Sunday, striking out four in the win over the Giants. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only major blemish against Morejon on Sunday was a solo homer by Mauricio Dubon in the second inning. He threw 25-of-40 pitches for strikes and tied his season high with four strikeouts. He finished the season with a 4.66 ERA over 19.1 innings.
Sep 19 2020Morejon allowed a run on two hits and struck out three over three innings Saturday versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon's one mistake was a solo home run to Kyle Lewis, but that had no impact on the result of the game. The 21-year-old Morejon has pitched at least 1.1 innings in all seven of his appearances this year, totaling 15.2 innings overall. He has a 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB. Morejon is expected to mostly be used in multi-inning relief assignments as he was Saturday, although he has also started three games in 2020.
Sep 16 2020Morejon (2-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits across two-plus innings. He struck out three and did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was called upon to start the bullpen game for San Diego. He worked into the third inning, with his lone earned run allowed being a solo homer to A.J. Pollock. The left-hander, who was tagged with his first loss of the season, is expected to continue working out of the bullpen going forward.
Sep 15 2020Morejon will start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Friars are expected to employ a bullpen day in Wednesday's series finale, and Morejon will be the first reliever on the mound. The 21-year-old has a 2.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB through 10.2 innings this season.
Sep 3 2020Morejon's two-day stint on the injured list last weekend was due to a headache, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While a headache would not typically be considered cause for an IL stint in a normal season, the issue is listed as a symptom of COVID-19, thus necessitating an abundance of caution. Morejon's headache may have been brought on by the altitude in Denver, though he was able to recover from the issue and clear testing protocols in time to throw three scoreless innings against Colorado on Monday.
Sep 1 2020Morejon (1-0) earned the win Monday against the Rockies after tossing three scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon piggybacked Garrett Richards, who tossed 3.2 scoreless frames, to earn his first win of the season in his first appearance since returning from the injured list. It's currently unclear if the left-hander will make his next appearance as a starter or in relief, but the most important thing is that he's back with the team and seemingly healthy.
Aug 31 2020Morejon was activated from the injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Rockies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Morejon was placed on the injured list Saturday, with team declining to go into details surrounding the southpaw's health. Aug 23 2020Morejon yielded three runs on three hits and a walk across 1.2 innings Sunday, striking out three in the win over the Astros. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Astros pounced on Morejon early, tagging him for three runs in the first frame, including a two-run blast by Kyle Tucker. Fortunately, the bullpen shut Houston down the rest of the afternoon and the offense pushed ahead for a victory to prevent the 21-year-old lefty from picking up his first loss. Jul 9 2020Morejon has impressed in intrasquad games and is pushing for a spot on the Padres' initial 30-man roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Prior to the cancellation of the minor-league season, Morejon was expected to work as a starter at Triple-A. Instead, the southpaw is battling for a spot on the team's Opening Day roster. Though a big-league role remains far from certain, Morejon could theoretically help the club as a short-inning starter, a multi-inning reliever or an opener.
