Jun 28 2025Littell (7-7) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over seven innings in an 11-3 rout of the Orioles. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander tossed 61 of 93 pitches for strikes en route to his 11th quality start of the season, and fifth in his last seven trips to the mound. During that stretch, Littell has produced a 2.78 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and stunning 33:2 K:BB over 45.1 innings. He'll try to stay dialed in during his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Minnesota.
Jun 22 2025Littell did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed a run in the second inning but was otherwise excellent, throwing 53 of 69 pitches for strikes and generating 15 whiffs. While it was a bit disappointing to see him lifted early, the 29-year-old has now given up three earned runs or fewer in 12 of his last 13 outings, recording nine quality starts in that span. He'll carry a 3.78 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 66:11 K:BB across 97.2 innings into a road matchup with the Orioles next weekend.
Jun 18 2025Littell (6-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three in six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell gave up a fifth-inning solo blast to Colton Cowser and a near home run to Jordan Westburg but otherwise kept the Orioles in check. It was his fourth straight start allowing a homer, but his fifth straight start going at least six innings. Littell has allowed three runs or fewer in 11 of his last 12 starts and has walked just eight batters over that span. He'll aim to get back in the win column this weekend against the Tigers.
Jun 11 2025Littell (6-6) was charged with the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox after giving up four runs on eight hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell's control remained nearly impeccable, as he issued one walk or fewer in his 10th straight start, but his struggles containing the long ball resurfaced. The 29-year-old right-hander served up a whopping four homers for the second time already this year, and he now inauspiciously leads the majors in homers allowed among pitchers with 21 on the season. Littell still owns a steady 3.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:11 K:BB across 86.2 innings, and he'll aim to reduce the hard contact the next time he's scheduled to take the hill versus the Orioles.
Jun 6 2025Littell (6-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 4-3 victory over the Marlins. He struck out four without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only blemish on Littell's line was a fourth-inning solo shot by Agustin Ramirez. The right-hander delivered his third straight quality start and ninth of the season in 13 trips to the mound, and he hit the showers after an efficient 72 pitches (47 strikes), getting a bit of a break after he tossed a 117-pitch complete game his last time out. Littell will take a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 52:11 K:BB through 80.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Boston.
May 31 2025Littell (5-5) earned the win over Houston on Saturday, allowing three runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out six batters over nine innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed two homers to Jeremy Pena in his first three innings, with the second tying the score at 3-3. The Rays poured on the offense from there, and manager Kevin Cash elected to give the bullpen a break and let Littell finish off the contest, which he did without allowing another run. The right-hander threw 117 pitches -- the most by any major-league pitcher in a game this season -- en route to his first career complete game. Since giving up seven runs in four innings against the Angels on April 10, Littell has yielded three runs of fewer in each of his subsequent nine outings, compiling seven quality starts, five wins and a 2.97 ERA in that span.
May 26 2025Littell (4-5) earned the win over Minnesota on Monday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out four batters over 6.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell cruised through six scoreless frames, giving up just three hits -- all singles -- during that span. He was lifted after hitting Ty France with a pitch with one out in the seventh despite being at only 72 pitches, and Littell was charged with a run when Carlos Correa brought France home on a two-run long ball off reliever Garrett Cleavinger. Nonetheless, Littell finished with his seventh quality start of the campaign, which is tied for 11th-most in the majors. A few clunkers early in the campaign have kept his ERA at a modest 3.97, but Littell hasn't given up more than three runs in an outing over his past eight starts and has a 2.96 ERA during that span. His next start is projected to be a road matchup against Houston this weekend.
May 20 2025Littell came away with a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six over five innings. He did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell scattered his two runs in the second and third innings and wasn't brought out for the sixth after tossing 103 pitches (63 strikes) while generating 10 whiffs. He has yielded three earned runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts, which has brought his ERA down to 4.25 across 59.1 innings. Littell has earned the win in three of his last five outings after losing his first five starts of the season. He'll go for win No. 4 in his next start, tentatively slated for next week at home against Minnesota.
May 15 2025Littell (3-5) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over 7.1 innings to earn the win Thursday over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell's longest start of the year was his fifth quality start in six outings, though there were some flaws. All three runs he allowed came via solo home runs, making this the fourth time in nine outings he's allowed multiple homers. Still, he continues to be effective at limiting damage, as this was the seventh time he's walked no more than one batter. The right-hander is now at a 4.31 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB over 54.1 innings this season, despite allowing 13 homers so far. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Astros.
May 10 2025Littell came away with a no-decision in Friday's 4-3 win over the Brewers, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander needed 90 pitches (65 strikes) to record his fourth quality start in his last five trips to the mound. After a bumpy beginning to the campaign, Littell has found a groove, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB in 30 innings over that five-start stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Toronto.
May 3 2025Littell (2-5) picked up the win in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits over seven innings. He struck out three without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It looked like the right-hander was headed for another tough-luck loss when he exited the mound with the Rays down 2-1, but a two-run rally in the top of the eighth flipped the script. Littell has produced four quality starts in seven trips to the mound, but this was the first one in which he came away with the win. Keeping the ball in the park remains an issue, however -- both runs he gave up came on solo shots, and he's served up 10 homers in 41 innings. He'll carry a 4.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Brewers.
Apr 16 2025Littell (0-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox after allowing one run on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wednesday marked the second time already this year that the right-hander was charged with the loss despite firing six innings of one-run ball. David Hamilton's third-inning solo home run wouldn't have been a homer in any other MLB ballpark, according to Statcast, and Littell also notably escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning. Despite carrying a respectable 1.26 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB across 23 innings (four starts) in 2025, Littell's 5.48 ERA makes him tough to trust from a fantasy perspective in Arizona for his next scheduled start next week.
Apr 10 2025Littell (0-3) took the loss Thursday against the Angels, allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell fell victim to the home-run ball Thursday -- he gave up a solo shot to Taylor Ward on his second pitch of the game before the Angels added five runs on three homers off Littell in the fifth. The 29-year-old Littell has now dropped three straight starts to open the year, posting a 6.88 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB across 17 innings. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Red Sox in his next outing.
Apr 5 2025Littell (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Rays were downed 5-2 by the Rangers, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Most of the damage came in the third inning, when Texas reeled off five straight hits before Littell could record an out. The right-hander has given Tampa Bay some length to begin the year, and through his first two starts he sports a 4.15 ERA and 10:2 K:BB in 13 innings. He'll look to get into the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Angels.
Mar 29 2025Littell (0-1) took the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell recorded 14 whiffs on 87 pitches but exited with a 1-0 deficit despite delivering a quality start. It was a strong showing for the 29-year-old after surrendering 12 runs over 13.1 spring innings, and he lines up for a road matchup with the Rangers next weekend.
Mar 14 2025Littell allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two across two innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marked Littell's second official spring appearance as he continues to compete for a rotation spot to begin the regular season. He didn't help his cause with his results, as he was pulled in two separate innings before returning to build up his pitch count. Following the game, Littell chalked the performance up to simply a bad outing, while manager Kevin Cash expressed optimism that Littell would bounce back, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Perhaps the lone positive was that Littell did reach 72 pitches, suggesting he'll be fully stretched out by Opening Day. Drew Rasmussen, Littell's presumed primary competition, is set to start Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Jan 9 2025Littell and the Rays avoided arbitration Thursday, agreeing to a one-year, $5.72 million contract, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell will receive a raise of just under $4 million in his second year of arbitration, coming off a solid showing in his first season as a full-time starter in the big leagues. He tossed 156.1 innings across his 29 outings with Tampa Bay in 2024, pitching to a 3.63 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 141:31 K:BB. Littell's lack of premium stuff will likely limit his strikeout upside once again in 2025, but his ability to keep walks in check while using of a variety of off-speed offerings to keep hitters off balance may allow him to find continued success as a back-end arm in the Tampa Bay rotation.
Sep 25 2024Littell (8-10) took the loss Wednesday against Detroit, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and zero walks while striking out seven in 4.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Entering Wednesday's action on an 18-inning scoreless streak, Littell immediately served up a leadoff home run to Parker Meadows in the first, shattering the Rays hopes of playing spoiler. Littell was able to settle in afterwards, but the Rays offense only mustered one run of support in the 7-1 defeat. After starting 18 games over the first six years of his career, Littell started 29 contests for the Rays in 2024, posting a respectable 3.63 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 141:31 K:BB in 156.1 innings (29 starts).
Sep 19 2024Littell (8-9) earned the win over Boston on Thursday, allowing one hit and recording seven strikeouts without issuing a walk over seven scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: LIttell allowed just one baserunner in the outing (on a third-inning single). The right-hander retired the final 13 batters he faced and was ultra efficient, needing only 75 pitches to complete seven frames. LIttell has held his opponent scoreless in three straight starts, compiling a total of 18 scoreless innings while posting a 16:1 K:BB during that span. The outstanding stretch has lowered his season ERA to 3.56.
Sep 13 2024Littell (7-9) earned the win Friday against the Guardians, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing two hits and no walks. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old was stellar in this 89-pitch performance, as he generated an impressive 18 whiffs -- including 10 alone on his slider -- while surprisingly punching out only five. Littell has picked up consecutive wins while pitching 11 scoreless innings over his last two starts as he appears to have fully recovered from his shoulder injury in August. He has now pitched to a 3.73 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 127:31 K:BB across 144.2 innings this season. He is currently slated to make his next outing against the Blue Jays at home.
Sep 8 2024Littell (6-9) threw five scoreless innings to pick up the win Sunday against Baltimore, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was sharp, limiting a potent Orioles offense to just three singles to earn his first win since Aug. 3. The 28-year-old has been excellent over his past six starts, allowing one or fewer runs in five of those outings, pitching to a 1.99 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 31.2 innings. Littell doesn't offer gaudy strikeout totals, but his superb command has allowed him to maintain consistency. On the year, the right-hander owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 122:31 K:BB in 138.2 innings (26 starts). He will look to stay hot in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend in Cleveland.
Sep 2 2024Littell (5-9) took the loss against the Twins on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was a bit rusty in his return from the injured list, walking a season-high four batters and surrendering a three-run homer in the third inning. On the plus side, his velocity was mostly in line with his season averages and he generated a solid 11 whiffs on 78 pitches. The 28-year-old owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 118:30 K:BB across 133.2 innings this season and lines up for a tough matchup with the Orioles on Sunday.
Sep 1 2024The Rays reinstated Littell (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, and he's scheduled to start Monday against the Twins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander landed on the shelf due to shoulder soreness after his last start Aug. 14 against Houston, but he's ready to rejoin the Rays as MLB rosters expand to 28 players Sunday. Littell will look to pick up where he left off, as he has a 1.19 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 22.2 innings across his past four starts.
Aug 29 2024Littell (shoulder) threw a simulated game Wednesday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Kevin Cash confirmed that Littell will not go on a rehab assignment. Assuming Littell's progress continues, he is expected to return to the rotation during the Rays' upcoming homestand, beginning Aug. 30 and ending Sept. 5.
Aug 17 2024The Rays placed Littell on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right shoulder fatigue, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell came away with the no-decision while allowing one run on one hit and two walks over five innings in his start Wednesday against the Astros, but he might have been plagued by the shoulder injury during the outing. The fact that the Rays are characterizing his injury as fatigue rather than a strain could bode well for his chances of avoiding an extended stay on the shelf. Left-hander Tyler Alexander was called up from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move, and he'll likely slot in as the fifth member of the Tampa Bay rotation beginning with Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, when he'll likely start or serve as a bulk reliever.
Aug 14 2024Littell allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aside from a Jeremy Pena solo home run in the fifth inning, Littell was in control, though he threw just 68 pitches (44 strikes) in this start. That matches his lowest pitch count since the start of July -- he'd thrown no fewer than 79 pitches in any of his last six starts. He's now at a 4.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 116:26 K:BB through 129.2 innings over 24 starts this year. Littell is tentatively projected for a favorable road start against the Athletics in his next outing.
Aug 9 2024Littell (5-8) took the loss Friday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After surrendering a home run to Colton Cowser to lead off the game, Littell managed to settle in and keep Baltimore off the board until the fifth, when Ryan O'Hearn drove in two more runs with a two-out single. The 28-year-old Littell had won back-to-back starts prior to Friday, allowing just one run in 12.2 innings. Overall, the right-hander sports a 4.11 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and 113:24 K:BB across 124.2 innings this season. Littell's currently slated for a home matchup with the Astros next week in his next outing.
Aug 3 2024Littell (5-7) allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out three over 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Astros on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed the opening run of the game, a Jon Singleton solo home run in the first inning. The Rays were able to bounce back on offense while Littell was sharp the rest of the way to collect consecutive wins for the first time this season. The right-hander has allowed just one run on seven hits and two walks over his last 12.2 innings. For the season, he's pitched to a 4.06 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 108:23 K:BB over 119.2 innings through 22 starts. Littell is projected to make his next start at home versus the Orioles.
Jul 28 2024Littell (4-7) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-0 victory over the Reds, scattering three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old right-hander was masterful over 96 pitches (60 strikes), as Cincinnati managed to get only two runners into scoring position against him. The quality start was the eighth of the year for Littell, but only his second in his last eight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he has a 5.22 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. With the Rays in sell mode at the trade deadline and Littell headed for his final year of arbitration in 2025, Saturday's performance can only have boosted his market value. If he doesn't get dealt, he's scheduled to make his next start for Tampa Bay on the road next weekend in Houston.
Jul 22 2024Littell (3-7) took the loss Monday against the Yankees, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell surrendered three home runs in this one, including back-to-back from Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe in the second inning. The 28-year-old has now allowed a home run in 11 of his past 12 starts, limping to a 5.49 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB during that stretch. The right-hander boasts an elite 4.95 K/BB that ranks in the 94th percentile, but he will need to limit home runs to find consistency. Littell will look to bounce back his next time out, currently scheduled for this weekend against Cincinnati.
Jul 13 2024Littell allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters over six innings in a no-decision against the Guardians on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell got through four scoreless frames before serving up a solo homer to Angel Martinez in the fifth inning. A catcher's interference call on batterymate David Fry led to a second Cleveland run in the frame, which tied the score and took Littell out of line for a victory. The right-hander ended his outing on a high note, retiring the side in order in the sixth to notch his first quality start since June 9. Littell will finish the first half of the campaign with a 4.26 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 94:19 K:BB over 101.1 innings.
Jul 7 2024Littell (3-6) allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five over four innings to take the loss versus the Rangers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell mostly had things under control until the Rangers erupted for six runs in the fourth inning. He left with a 7-2 deficit, and the Rangers continued to find success against the Rays' bullpen, leaving Littell to take his first loss in four starts. He's had one bad outing in each month of the season, but he's given up four or more runs just four times in 18 starts. The right-hander has a 4.44 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 91:17 K:BB through 95.1 innings. Littell will look to bounce back versus the Guardians in a challenging matchup at home next weekend.
Jul 3 2024Littell (3-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Royals, throwing five shutout innings while giving up four hits and striking out four batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was remarkably efficient Tuesday, needing only 68 pitches to get through five innings. Had it not been for a two-plus-hour rain delay, the 28-year-old righty almost certainly would have made it deeper into the game. Nonetheless, Tampa Bay's offense provided just enough run support before his removal for him to record his first win since May 11. Littell will now carry a 3.94 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into his next start against the Rangers over the weekend.
Jun 25 2024Littell did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Mariners, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell opened with four scoreless innings before allowing a two-run home run to Ty France in the fifth. He generated an impressive 14 swinging strikes on just 72 pitches and has rebounded from a rough start on June 14 by yielding just two runs in each of his past two outings. The 28-year-old owns a 4.17 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 82:16 K:BB this season and will try to record his first win since May 11 against the Royals next week.
Jun 20 2024Littell did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Thursday represented a return to form for Littell, who held the Twins to single runs in each of the second and third innings prior to leaving after five innings having tossed 95 pitches. Littell had posted a 7.71 ERA and 2.07 WHIP with four homers allowed across three starts and 14 innings during the month of June, including allowing a season-worst six earned runs in just two innings during his previous start. Although he was touched up for a homer for the seventh-consecutive outing, it was also the first time in five starts he didn't allow at least three earned runs. He'll continue to work on righting the ship during his next start, scheduled to come at home next week when the Mariners make their way to the Trop.
Jun 14 2024Littell (2-5) yielded seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and a walk over two innings Friday, striking out two and taking a loss against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta jumped all over Littell right out of the gate, tallying five runs in the first and two more in the second. It was Littell's shortest outing of the year and he saw his ERA jump from 3.63 to 4.24 in the process. Over his last six starts, he's posted a 5.79 ERA in 31.2 frames. Still looking for his first win since May 11, Littell's next start is projected to be in Minnesota.
Jun 9 2024Littell (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell had to work for his third straight quality start, stranding five batters and allowing four extra-base hits, including a fourth-inning solo homer by Anthony Santander. Littell has surrendered a home run in five straight starts and owns a 4.55 ERA with a 24:5 K:BB across 29.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a road start in Atlanta on Friday.
Jun 2 2024Littell did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on 11 hits and one walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell's day started by allowing a leadoff homer to Gunnar Henderson, but he somehow managed to keep the Rays in the game despite walking the tight rope throughout most of his six-inning effort. In total, Littell scattered a season-high 11 hits and 12 total baserunners while accumulating a season-low two strikeouts. Despite facing at least five Orioles batters in four of his six innings completed, Littell managed to walk away with a quality start and his gritty performance kept the door open for the Rays to pull off the comeback win. Littell will look to make things a bit easier on himself during his next start, tentatively slated to take place against these same Orioles next weekend when the O's return the favor and make the trip to Tampa.
May 29 2024Littell (2-3) took the loss Tuesday as the Rays fell 3-0 to the A's, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander set a new career high in strikeouts, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 95 pitches, but a Brandon Lowe error helped prolong the sixth inning and set the stage for a three-run homer by Miguel Andujar. Littell had to settle for his fourth quality start of the year, and he'll take a 3.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 64:10 K:BB through 62.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Baltimore.
May 21 2024Littell didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Boston, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell fared better against the Red Sox the second time around, holding them to three hits Tuesday after yielding seven hits and four runs to Boston in his last start. Though the 28-year-old did surrender a solo homer to Jarren Duran, he tied his season high in strikeouts and fewer than two batters for the sixth time in his last seven starts. Littell hasn't gone deeper than six innings this season but owns a 3.42 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP across 10 appearances. He's scheduled for a home start against the Athletics next Tuesday.
May 16 2024Littell didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell surrendered his first home run since April 22, yielding a solo home run to Rafael Devers in the second inning. Thursday's outing marked Littell's second time in nine starts allowing four or more runs. On the year, Littell owns a 3.44 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a 48:4 K:BB across 49.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with Boston during a three-game homestand early next week.
May 11 2024Littell (2-2) got the victory Saturday versus the Yankees, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He notched three strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell came into this outing with zero walks over his last four starts and at least six strikeouts in all of those outings. While he went the other direction in both areas during Saturday's start, it was an effective outing nonetheless. Littell is sitting on a 3.02 ERA, but this was his first win since March 30. His next outing projects to come in Boston.
May 5 2024Littell allowed one run on six hits while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only run Littell allowed on the night came across in the first inning when the right-hander allowed a leadoff double to Brandon Nimmo to open the frame followed by an RBI single from Starling Marte. From there, Littell went on to retire 10 of the next 11 batters he faced, with six of those batters going down on strikeouts. It marked the fourth start this season in which he's allowed one run or fewer, and he's now gone six innings in three straight, posting a 20:0 K:BB over that stretch.
Apr 28 2024Littell (1-2) picked up a loss after he pitched six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out six batters in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell opened the game with three scoreless innings before Chicago scratched across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, including an RBI single by Danny Mendick, which gave the White Sox a 2-1 lead. Littell was able to return to form and pitch two more scoreless frames before exiting after the sixth, securing his first quality start since March 30. The 28-year-old will carry a 3.27 ERA into his next projected start Saturday at home versus the Mets.
Apr 22 2024Littell (1-1) took the loss Monday against the Tigers, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed a solo homer to Mark Canha on the third pitch of his start Monday and never seemed to recover. Despite surrendering five runs, Littell managed to generate 15 whiffs and match his season-high in strikeouts with seven. The 28-year-old starter sports a 3.33 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB over 27 innings. His next start is scheduled against the White Sox on the road.
Apr 17 2024Littell didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks against the Angels. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Littell didn't walk any batters and yielded merely three runs, he was pulled at 107 pitches without being able to complete six innings. He surrendered his first home run of the campaign, being tagged by Mike Trout for a solo homer in the first inning. Littell boasts a 2.14 ERA with a 22:5 K:BB across 21.0 innings and seems to be building off his 2023 showing with Tampa Bay when he logged a 3-6 record and a 3.93 ERA in 26 appearances (14 starts). He's tentatively scheduled to face the Tigers on Monday.
Apr 11 2024Littell came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Angels, allowing one run on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander ran his pitch count up to 99 (62 strikes) before getting the hook, missing out on a chance to secure his second win of the year. Littell has a 1.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB through three starts and 15.1 innings, and he has yet to serve up a homer despite the fact that one of his outings came in Coors Field. The latter could be key to his fantasy fortunes in 2024 after he was tagged for 13 home runs in 87 innings with Tampa Bay last season. Littell lines up for a rematch with the Halos back at home early next week.
Apr 5 2024Littell came away with a no-decision in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Rockies, allowing one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander pounded the strike zone at Coors Field, firing 52 of 69 pitches for strikes, and Littell left the mound with the Rays nursing a 2-1 lead before things got wacky in the late innings. After a solid finish to the 2023 campaign in the Tampa Bay rotation, Littell has been ever better to begin the current campaign, posting a 0.82 ERA through his first 11 innings with an 11:2 K:BB. He lines up to make his next start on the road against the Angels next week.
Mar 30 2024Littell (1-0) earned the win over the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It wasn't the most dominant outing in terms of swings and misses (11), but Littell got the whiffs when he needed them with two strikes. A waiver claim by the Rays last May after the Red Sox designated him for assignment, Littell has somehow turned himself into a viable No. 3 starter for Tampa Bay, though fantasy managers will face a tough decision this upcoming week with a trip to notoriously hitter-friendly Coors Field on tap.
Mar 25 2024Littell allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going most of the exhibition season without a blemish to his ERA, Littell ran into a bit of trouble in his final tuneup. Still, it was an impressive spring as Littell had a 13:3 K:BB and did not allow a homer in 13.1 innings. He quietly had a strong run with the Rays last year and has become a popular mid-to-late pick in recent fantasy drafts. The right-hander will start Tampa Bay's third game of the season, Saturday at home against the Blue Jays, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Feb 20 2024Littell is expected to serve as a starter for the entire 2024 season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell made the transition from reliever to starter in the middle of the 2023 season, and he managed a 3.41 ERA across 71.1 innings in the latter role. With the Rays down several starters to begin the 2024 campaign, he'll be counted on in the rotation, but the team is also planning on him sticking in a starting role for the entirety of the campaign. That could change if he falters and either Shane Baz (elbow) or Jeffrey Springs (elbow) can return, but neither is likely to occur until the summer months at the earliest.
Jan 11 2024Littell signed a one-year, $1.85 million contract with the Rays on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After getting DFA'd by the Giants in May, Littell was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay and recorded a 3.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 87 innings with the Rays. He projects to be the fourth or fifth man in Tampa Bay's rotation in 2024, though he also has plenty of experience coming out of the bullpen.
Sep 30 2023Littell didn't factor into the decision Friday during the Rays' 11-4 loss to the Blue Jays, coughing up three runs on three hits and two walks over 1.1 relief innings. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Civale tossed 40 pitches as the starting pitcher and was charged with the loss during a game in which the Rays never led, but both Littell (35 pitches) and Taj Bradley (21 pitches) also saw action out of the bullpen, as manager Kevin Cash wanted to keep all his options open for his playoff rotation while not giving Toronto -- Tampa's likely opponent in the wild-card round -- a good look at any of them. Littell closes the books on a regular season that saw him post a 4.10 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 74:12 K:BB through 90 innings split between the Rays and Red Sox.
Sep 24 2023Littell came away with a no-decision Saturday, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in the Rays' 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander came one out shy of his third quality start in five September outings, and Littell left the mound in line for his fourth win of the season and first since Aug. 27, only for the Tampa Bay bullpen to cough up the lead in the eighth inning. Littell sports a sharp 2.70 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 30 innings on the month, and with Saturday's win having locked up a playoff spot for the Rays, he may not be asked to handle a full workload in his final start of the regular season, which lines up for a rematch with the Jays in Toronto next weekend.
Sep 18 2023Littell did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits over 4.2 innings against the Orioles. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After pitching eight and seven innings, respectively, in his previous two starts, Littell only made it through 4.2 frames Sunday, departing after throwing just 55 pitches. The 27-year-old right-hander has looked good of late, working to a 2.29 ERA while issuing just one walk in his last three outings (19.2 innings) despite an 0-2 record in that span. Overall, Littell is 3-6 with a 4.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:9 K:BB through 83 innings this season. He's currently slated for a home matchup with the Blue Jays this weekend in his next outing.
Sep 12 2023Littell (3-6) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings against the Twins. He struck out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After firing off eight innings of one-run baseball in his last start, Littell went seven innings against Minnesota and logged his third quality start of 2023. However, the 27-year-old surrendered a pair of home runs, one to Will Castro and the other to Edouard Julien. Over his last seven appearances (42.2 innings), Littell owns a 4.43 ERA and a 33:3 K:BB but has allowed 1.9 HR/9. Littell will close out his two-start week on the road Sunday against the Orioles.
Sep 7 2023Littell (3-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over eight innings against the Mariners. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell turned in the longest outing of his career Thursday, holding Seattle to just one run and retiring 19 of the final 20 batters he faced. However, the 27-year-old right-hander was saddled with an unlucky loss on account of Tampa Bay's failure to provide any run support. In eight starts since joining the Rays' rotation, Littell has a 3-3 record with 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 30:4 K:BB across 46.2 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for early next week against a Minnesota offense that leads MLB in strikeouts versus right-handed pitching.
Sep 3 2023Littell did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings in a 7-6 loss to Cleveland. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed hits to four of the first eight batters he faced, leading to two early runs coming across for Cleveland. He would go on to surrender four earned runs for the third consecutive start while recording just one strikeout. The right-hander also gave up a season-high nine hits in the contest and failed to make it through at least five innings for the first time in his last seven outings.
Aug 28 2023Littell (3-4) got the win Sunday over the Yankees after allowing four runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was punished by the long ball in Sunday's outing. He gave up back-to-back jacks in the third and then a two-run shot to Anthony Volpe in the fourth to allow the Yankees to go up 4-2. The Rays wound up scoring a timely four runs in the sixth to take the lead back and put Littell in line for the victory. He's surrendered a home run in each of his last four starts but has been surprisingly effective as a starter considering he's spent his career as a reliever up until his current stint with the Rays. In six starts with Tampa, Littell now holds a 3.97 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB in 34 innings and lines up for a meeting with the Guardians next.
Aug 23 2023Littell did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against the Rockies. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell induced a second-inning popup by Nolan Jones that landed just inside the left-field foul line, resulting in an unfortunate triple due to miscommunication between Tampa's young infield tandem of Osleivis Basabe and Curtis Mead. Jones would score on a sacrifice fly before Michael Toglia hit a solo homer. Littell conceded two more earned runs in the sixth and was on track for the loss before Tampa Bay's offensive explosion in the eighth turned the game into a blowout victory for the Rays. In five starts since joining the rotation July 30, the 27-year-old righty has posted a 3.54 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 21:2 K:BB across 28 innings. Littell is tentatively slated to make his next start at home against the Yankees over the weekend.
Aug 15 2023Littell (2-4) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out five without walking a batter over 5.2 innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell came up an out short of a quality start against his former team, but he didn't get much help from his offense. This was his fourth straight turn as a traditional starter, and he's allowed seven runs over 22.2 innings in that span, adjusting to the role admirably. The right-hander is at a 3.99 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 41:6 K:BB through 47.1 innings over 20 appearances (seven starts) between the Rays and the Red Sox this year. Littell is projected for a road start versus the Angels over the weekend, and he should have some staying power in the rotation following news of Shane McClanahan's imminent season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Aug 10 2023Littell (2-3) took the loss against St. Louis on Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out five batters over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell held the Cardinals scoreless through three frames before serving up a two-run homer to Andrew Knizner in the fourth. St. Louis tacked on another run against the right-hander in the sixth, which was enough to send him to his third loss. Despite the defeat, Littell continues to look good in his new role as a traditional starter, tossing his second straight quality start. In three games since moving into the rotation, he's posted a 2.65 ERA and 10:1 K:BB over 17 innings.
Aug 4 2023Littell (2-2) earned the win Friday, allowing three hits and one walk over six scoreless innings against Detroit. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays gave Littell a nice cushion early and he cruised, completing six frames on 74 pitches. It wasn't a dominant performance in terms of whiffs -- Littell induced just five swinging strikes -- but the right-hander was efficient and kept the ball on the ground. With Shane McClanahan moving to the 15-day injured list this week with forearm tightness, Littell would seem to be locked into the rotation for the foreseeable future.
Aug 1 2023Littell is listed as the Rays' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Tigers at Comerica Park. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has already made four starts this season, but on each of the first three occasions, he covered no more than 3.1 innings while operating as more of an opening pitcher. In his most recent start Sunday in Houston, however, Littell covered a season-high five innings, striking out four while allowing two runs on eight hits. Based on the workload he handled, Littell looks like he could be getting stretched out for a more traditional starting role, especially now that Tampa Bay has a spot in the rotation open after Taj Bradley was optioned to Triple-a Durham on Monday. Erasmo Ramirez worked three innings behind Littell on Sunday, so it's possible the two pitchers work in tandem again Thursday if Ramirez isn't needed out of the bullpen Tuesday or Wednesday.
Jul 31 2023Littell (1-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on eight hits over five innings against the Astros. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Sunday's game was expected to be a bullpen day for the Rays, Littell managed to last five innings and was stretched out to 82 pitches after having thrown fewer than three innings in all but one of his appearances this season. Despite allowing eight hits, Littell held the Astros scoreless heading into the fifth, where he allowed back-to-back singles and a double during a two-run inning. Considering the Rays are battling a multitude of injuries in their starting rotation, they may continue to stretch Littell out if he proves to be a reliable innings eater.
Jul 29 2023Littell will start Sunday's game against the Astros, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander hasn't pitched since he delivered two scoreless innings last Sunday against Baltimore, and he'll start Tampa Bay's bullpen day in Houston a week later. Littell has covered at least two frames in each of his past four outings, but he shouldn't be expected to last more than once through the order Sunday.
Jul 20 2023Littell (0-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits over 3.1 innings against the Rangers. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell made it through the first two innings unscathed before serving up a leadoff home run to Leody Taveras to open the bottom of the third. That would be the only run allowed by the right-hander on the afternoon as he was later relieved by Jake Diekman after surrendering a one-out double to Jonah Heim in the fourth. Littell has now allowed at least one run in each of his last three outings while his four strikeouts Wednesday marked a season high.
Jul 18 2023Littell will serve as the Rays' opener Wednesday against the Rangers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wednesday will mark the third time this season Littell has served in an opener role. The 27-year-old righty holds a 6.05 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through 19.1 innings this season and will presumably stay in the game for one or two innings before turning things over to the bullpen.
Jul 6 2023Littell did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits over two innings against the Phillies. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell served as the Rays' opener Wednesday and got off to a good start with a 1-2-3 first inning. However, he would run into trouble in the second after striking out Bryce Harper to open the frame, allowing four consecutive singles as the Phillies tied the game at 2-2. The right-hander was then relieved by Yonny Chirinos to begin the third after seeing his ERA jump up to 5.71 on the season. On a positive note, Littell has now recorded at least two strikeouts in each of his last five appearances (spanning 8.2 innings).
Jul 5 2023Littell is scheduled to serve as the Rays' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell will get the opener assignment for the second time in less than a week, after he most recently struck out three over two scoreless frames in his "start" against the Diamondbacks last Thursday. Yonny Chirinos covered six innings behind Littell that day and will presumably work as a bulk reliever once again Wednesday.
Jun 29 2023Littell will serve as an opener Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell will take the mound first for Tampa Bay, with Yonny Chirinos slated to cover bulk relief innings. It will be the first opener assignment this season for Littell, who holds a 6.57 ERA and 11:5 K:BB over 12.1 innings covering 10 appearances between the Red Sox and Rays.
Jun 14 2023The Rays reinstated Littell (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tampa Bay optioned lefty Jalen Beeks to Triple-A Durham to clear a spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster for Littell, who missed about three weeks due to the inflamed right shoulder. Littell will likely work in lower-leverage spots for Tampa Bay after he surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits and three walks over 6.1 innings during his first six relief appearances in the majors this season.
Jun 12 2023Littell (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and has made three appearances thus far, covering two innings and allowing four earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell is working his way back from a bout with right shoulder inflammation, an issue that resulted in his placement on the 15-day injured list May 24. Before picking up the injury, Littell was a fringe member of the Rays' 40-man roster, so he likely won't be assured a spot in the big-league bullpen once he's formally activated. Littell hasn't helped his cause by having pitched ineffectively thus far during his rehab assignment.
May 24 2023The Rays placed Littell on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder fatigue, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell last pitched Monday and gave up two runs while recording just one out in a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined.
May 12 2023Littell was claimed off waivers by the Rays on Friday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was designated for assignment by the Red Sox earlier this week and will wind up remaining in the American League East. The reliever is out of options, so he'll join the major-league roster. It's not clear yet what the Rays' corresponding move will be.
May 10 2023The Red Sox designated Littell for assignment Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has lost his roster spot to James Paxton (hamstring), who was activated from the 15-day injured list in advance of his season debut Friday versus the Cardinals. The 27-year-old allowed three earned runs in three innings (two relief appearances) during his brief stay with Boston.
May 6 2023Littell's contract was selected from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old righty had a 3.82 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 106 innings for the Giants from 2021 through 2022, but he'd been working as a Triple-A reliever for the Rangers prior to getting shipped to Boston for cash. Littell should work in low-leverage spots.
May 5 2023Littell was acquired by the Red Sox from the Rangers on Friday in exchange for cash considerations, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has posted a 2.25 ERA and 16:2 K:BB over 12 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He'll report to Triple-A Worcester for now but could get a look with the big club before long.
Sep 13 2022Littell was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After giving up two earned runs over two-thirds of an inning and being visibly upset when he was pulled from Monday's victory over Atlanta, Littell is headed for the minor leagues. Thomas Szapucki was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Sep 11 2022Littell (3-3) earned the win Sunday over the Cubs, allowed two hits and striking out two over 1.2 scoreless innings without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was in the game when Thairo Estrada's solo home run in the seventh inning put the Giants ahead. Through five outings in September, Littell's allowed four runs in five innings, though those all came in one outing against the Dodgers on Wednesday. The right-hander has posted a 4.74 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB through 43.2 innings overall in a low-leverage role.
Sep 8 2022Littell (2-3) allowed four runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell gave up the go-ahead run on an RBI double to Trea Turner, then yielded a three-run home run to Max Muncy. Littell hadn't given up more than one run in any of his previous nine appearances since returning from an oblique injury in August. The ugly outing Wednesday lifted his season ERA to 5.01 with a 1.33 WHIP, 36:12 K:BB, one save and four holds through 41.1 innings.
Sep 3 2022Littell (2-2) earned the win Saturday over the Phillies, retiring the only batter he faced in the contest. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was in the right place at the right time for the win. Scott Alexander allowed the Phillies to tie the score in the sixth inning, but Littell stranded Jean Segura on second base and the Giants retook the lead in their half of the frame. Since returning from an oblique injury, Littell has given up two runs across 8.2 innings through eight appearances, adding one save and one hold in that span. He's posted a 4.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 34:10 K:BB through 39 innings overall, mainly serving in a middle-relief role.
Aug 21 2022Littell pitched a perfect 11th inning to earn the save in Sunday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was the seventh reliever the Giants deployed in this contest, and he was able to lock things down after Wilmer Flores' sacrifice fly put them ahead in the top of the 11th. Littell has covered three scoreless innings in two appearances since returning from an oblique injury Wednesday. He has a 4.59 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 33.1 innings this year, though he's only added one save and three holds as more of a low-leverage reliever. As such, he shouldn't be considered likely to see many additional save chances.
Aug 17 2022Littell (oblique) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell sustained a left oblique strain in early July and spent just over a month on the injured list, but he was in the minors on a rehab assignment for two and a half weeks. The right-hander posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 6.2 innings over seven rehab appearances and will rejoin the Giants' bullpen ahead of Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Aug 7 2022Littell's (oblique) rehab assignment was transferred from Single-A San Jose to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Across those two levels of the minors, Littell has allowed three hits and a walk while striking out three in four scoreless innings through four rehab appearances. Given the results so far, the right-hander doesn't seem too far away from rejoining the Giants.
Jul 28 2022Littell (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A San Jose on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has been on the injured list since early July due to his left oblique strain but is closing in on a return. It's not yet clear how many rehab appearances the right-hander will require before he's able to rejoin the Giants' bullpen, but it's possible that he'll be activated as early as next week.
Jul 9 2022Littell landed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was recalled Thursday and walked four batters in 1.1 innings of relief against the Padres the next day. Those command issues now look like they were injury-related. It's not yet clear how much time he's expected to miss.
Jul 7 2022Littell was recalled by the Giants on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Alvarez (elbow) was placed on the injured list, creating a need in the bullpen. Littell will fill that void, and he's managed a 4.97 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB across 29 innings with the Giants on the season.
Jun 24 2022Littell was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell pitched Thursday against Atlanta and allowed one run over three innings, and he'll head to the minors in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. The 26-year-old has a 4.97 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB across 29 major-league innings this season.
Jun 22 2022Littell allowed two runs on a hit and a hit batter in one inning during Tuesday's 12-10 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell hit Michael Harris with a pitch and then surrendered a two-run home run to Ronald Acuna in the fourth inning. That briefly gave Atlanta the lead, but San Francisco pulled ahead in the sixth and held on from there to spare Littell a loss. He's given up four runs in his last 10.1 innings, and he's still looking a little shaky with a 5.19 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 22:3 K:BB across 26 innings overall. The right-hander has added a 1-2 record and three holds, but with six homers allowed, he'll need to work on keeping the ball in the yard to find more success.
Jun 7 2022Littell (1-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell allowed consecutive singles to Jose Iglesias and Randal Grichuk before getting an out. Charlie Blackmon then entered as a pinch hitter for the Rockies, and manager Gabe Kapler responded with Jose Alvarez on the mound, who promptly allowed both inherited runners from Littell to score on a home run. Prior to Tuesday, the right-hander had pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in his last four appearances. He's now at a 5.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB in 21.2 innings overall.
Jun 3 2022Littell (1-1) earned the win Friday over the Marlins. He allowed a hit and struck out four in two innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Giants went with a bullpen game Friday, but their offense established a large lead early. Littell pitched the fifth and sixth innings in this contest. He's gone 5.2 innings without allowing a run over his last four appearances as he continues to bounce back from a rough May. Overall, the right-hander has a 4.64 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB through 21.1 innings in a versatile middle-innings role.
May 25 2022Littell pitched a perfect inning in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has struggled for much of May. He's allowed 11 runs on 18 hits and two walks across 10.2 innings in his nine appearances this month after keeping runs off the board in all six of his April outings. The right-hander's struggles have left him with a 5.94 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB across 16.2 innings. He's added two holds and an 0-1 record, but he's seen mostly low-leverage work lately.
May 5 2022Littell (0-1) was tagged with the loss against St. Louis on Thursday, pitching two innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell missed over a week while on the COVID-19 list, but he was activated Thursday and immediately thrust into action in a bullpen game for the Giants. The right-hander was the second pitcher to appear for San Francisco, and he was the only hurler on the team to complete two full innings. Littell looked good by throwing 26 of 36 pitches for strikes and fanning three, but a Yadier Molina solo homer in the third inning was enough to have him tagged with the loss. The run was the first allowed by Littell in seven appearances this season.
Apr 26 2022Littell was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday after testing positive for the virus, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell officially landed on the shelf without an injury designation prior to Tuesday's win over the A's, but manager Gabe Kapler clarified the right-hander's outlook after the contest. The 26-year-old is experiencing mild symptoms and will remain away from the team until he clears MLB's testing protocols.
Apr 25 2022Littell has allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out two over five innings in 2022. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander pitched well in spring training, and he's carried over that success into the regular season. Littell has often entered in the middle innings, though his solid work thus far could help his case for high-leverage work. He's yet to record a decision, but he has picked up a hold in five outings.
Apr 3 2022Littell has allowed one run on three hits with one strikeout in three innings across three Cactus League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was very effective in 2021, working in everything from an opener role to a fill-in at closer occasionally. He posted a 2.92 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 63:24 K:BB with a 4-0 record, two saves and five holds in 61.2 innings. Entering 2022, Giants manager Gabe Kapler still hesitates to give strictly defined roles to his relievers. Jake McGee, Camilo Doval and Tyler Rogers are expected to be in the closer committee, while Littell's versatility will see him often work in the middle innings. Given his 3.86 FIP from last season, he'll likely face a little regression in 2022.
Sep 18 2021Littell (4-0) got the win in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Atlanta, surrendering two hits with three strikeouts in one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell relieved starter Alex Wood in the fourth inning and allowed the first two batters to reach base before striking out the next three Atlanta hitters. The victory was Littell's third in September and he's allowed two runs in eight innings this month across eight appearances.
Sep 14 2021Littell (3-0) pitched 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts to earn the win Monday over San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander again came away with a decision in a bullpen game. Littell relieved Jarlin Garcia with one out in the fourth inning and then stayed on for the fifth in a lopsided contest. Though he's picked up just two saves and five holds, Littell has a strong 2.67 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 54 innings this season, thanks in part to a career-low 0.8 HR/9 and tiny .216 BABIP.
Sep 5 2021Littell (2-0) got the win in Sunday's 6-4 victory over the Dodgers, striking out two in one inning of work. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In another bullpen game for San Francisco, Littell was brought in with two on and none out in the second inning and was able to escape the jam unscathed. The giants went on to score two runs in the bottom of the inning to make Littell the winner. The 25-year-old has pitched well dating back to the start of August, recording a 1.11 ERA in 16.2 innings across 12 appearances in the stretch.
Aug 27 2021Littell allowed a run on one hit in 1.2 innings, taking a blown save in Friday's 6-5 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander allowed two inherited runners from Tony Watson to score on a Jorge Soler in the seventh inning. Littell has allowed runs in back-to-back appearances after starting August with an 8.2-inning scoreless streak. He has a 2.93 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 37:19 K:BB through 46 innings overall, while adding two saves and five holds in a versatile role.
Aug 13 2021Littell saved Friday's 5-4 win against the Rockies, recording the final out of the ninth via strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Francisco entered the ninth with a 5-2 lead but closer Jake McGee served up a two-run home run ad two more baserunners before Littell was called upon by manager Gabe Kapler. The 25-year-old needed just four pitches to dismiss C.J. Cron for his second save in three appearances, with a win sandwiched between them. Since being recalled August 7, Littell is 1-0 with two saves and four strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Aug 11 2021Littell (1-0) struck out the only batter he faced and earned the win Tuesday versus Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Jake McGee allowed the tying run to score in the top of the ninth inning, Littell was called upon for the final out of the frame. He then became the beneficiary of San Francisco's walkoff win. Through 37.1 innings, Littell has a 3.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 28:17 K:BB while logging one save and five holds. He's starting to see more high-leverage work, but he's not yet a legitimate threat to challenge for save chances.
Aug 8 2021Littell allowed just one walk and struck out one over two scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 5-4 win over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After getting called up Saturday, Littell was able to spare a San Francisco bullpen that had been leaned on heavily throughout the series versus Milwaukee. The right-hander protected a one-run lead for two innings to notch his first major-league save and just his third save at any level of professional baseball. Littell has a 3.16 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 27:17 K:BB through 37 innings this season, as well as five holds. He's not likely to see additional save chances going forward.
Aug 7 2021Littell was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was sent down in late July after he gave up three runs in one inning against the Pirates, but he had tossed 6.1 scoreless frames across his six previous outings. He's posted a 3.44 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 34 innings with the Giants this year and will provide an extra arm out of the bullpen after outfielder Steven Duggar was sent down Saturday.
Jul 27 2021Littell was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has been a decent bullpen option this season with a 3.44 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:16 K:BB over 34 innings, but he'll head to the minors Tuesday. The right-hander could rejoin the Giants later in the year when additional bullpen depth is needed.
Jul 25 2021Littell allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one in one inning versus Pittsburgh on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell entered Saturday with a scoreless streak of 6.1 innings, but Pittsburgh rallied against him in the eighth inning of a lopsided contest. The right-hander hadn't allowed multiple runs in an appearance since June 15, which was one of his two turns as an opener this season. Overall, he has a 3.44 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:16 K:BB across 34 innings while adding five holds in 38 outings.
Jul 10 2021Littell walked one and struck out one in a scoreless inning during Friday's 5-3 win over Washington. He earned a hold. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has settled in a bit since a disastrous turn as an opener June 15. In his 11 appearances since then, the reliever has a 2.89 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 5:5 K:BB across 9.1 innings. The right-hander continues to see low-leverage assignments mostly, but he's now picked up five holds with a 3.25 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 27.2 innings this year. With a 4.65 FIP, Littell may struggle to continue producing similar results.
Jun 30 2021Littell pitched a perfect inning in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since an ugly turn as an opener June 15 versus Arizona, Littell has bounced back relatively well. He's allowed two runs on three hits and three walks in six innings across his last seven outings. The right-hander has been reasonably effective in a low-leverage role with a 3.33 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB across 24.1 innings. However, Littell may not be able to sustain those ratios -- a .235 BABIP has helped limit the damage against him so far this year.
Jun 16 2021Littell allowed four runs on four hits and two walks without recording an out Tuesday against Arizona. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks couldn't have asked for a better offensive start in the contest, collecting four singles and a pair of walks while scoring four times before Littell was lifted without recording an out. The right-hander was working as an opener and wasn't expected to pitch very long, but his inability to retire any batters still qualifies as a disaster despite the fact that the Giants eventually came back to win. It remains to be seen how Littell will be deployed going forward, though it wouldn't be surprising if he's no longer asked to open games given the outcome Tuesday.
Jun 15 2021The Giants announced that Littell will serve as their opening pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the team didn't say so officially, Sam Long will almost certainly serve as the primary pitcher behind Littell after the two were effective while working in succession June 9 in Texas. After Littell tossed a scoreless first inning, Long followed with four innings of one-run ball. The Giants likely won't ask Littell to record more than three to six outs Tuesday before he gives way to Long.
Jun 9 2021Littell allowed a walk and struck out one in one inning as the opener in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to Texas. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell got the game going in a positive manner with a fairly strong inning. Wednesday was his first major-league start since 2018. He's been an effective option out of the bullpen with a 1.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 17.1 innings this season. The 25-year-old has also picked up four holds, but he remains behind at least Tyler Rogers and Jake McGee when it comes to closing duties.
Jun 8 2021Littell will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell will make his first start of the season Wednesday, and he's unlikely to cover more than an inning or two since he has yet to complete two full frames in an appearance in 2020. Sam Long is expected to be promoted from Triple-A and is a likely candidate to follow as the bulk reliever.
May 30 2021Littell allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two in one inning of Sunday's 5-4 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sunday's outing was just the second time in 15 appearances the right-hander has allowed runs this season. He gave up a two-run home run to Max Muncy in the eighth inning. Littell has been an effective part of San Francisco's bullpen with a 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB across 13.2 innings. He's added four holds -- he's in the mix for high-leverage work, although Jake McGee and Tyler Rogers are expected to handle the vast majority of the closing duties.
May 18 2021Littell allowed a run on two hits and struck out one in one inning to earn a hold in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander gave up a solo home run to Nick Castellanos and a single to Tyler Naquin in the eighth inning. Littell has started to feature in high-leverage work with three holds in his last four outings. The homer Tuesday was the first run he's allowed in 7.2 innings, and he's added a 1.17 WHIP and 5:3 K:BB in nine appearances. The 25-year-old isn't likely to challenge for save opportunities -- Jake McGee and Tyler Rogers have filled that role for San Francisco this season.
May 14 2021Littell allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Thursday's 3-1 win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has holds in each of his last two appearances. The 25-year-old right-hander has yet to allow a run across five innings. He's only given up two hits and three walks while striking out three in that span. Littell probably won't yet challenge for save opportunities. His 4.29 FIP suggests regression could be a factor, although he should still be a fairly effective bullpen option.
May 1 2021Littell allowed one walk and struck out one in one inning during Friday's 3-2 loss to San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell worked the seventh inning with the Giants down by one, and he made a good first impression with his new team. The 25-year-old had an awful 2020 with the Twins, posting a 9.95 ERA and 2.37 WHIP across 6.1 innings. He'll look to regain his 2019 form (2.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 32:9 K:BB) if he's able to stick on San Francisco's big-league roster.
Apr 30 2021Littell's contract was selected by the Giants on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell served as a non-roster invitee this spring but was unable to break camp with the club after he posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 10 innings. He should mainly pitch in lower-leverage roles for San Francisco.
Feb 3 2021Littell signed with the Giants on Wednesday as a non-roster invitee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell spent the start of the 2020 season with the Twins but battled various injuries before being outrighted to the team's alternate training site. The right-hander has made 35 relief appearances in the majors over the past two seasons, recording a 3.74 ERA and 35:12 K:BB over 43.1 innings. He'll now compete for a spot in the Giants' bullpen during spring training.
Sep 6 2020Littell (elbow) was activated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to the Twins' alternate site Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Apparently Littell has turned the page after a bout of elbow inflammation, though he will have to wait a while yet before he gets another big-league opportunity. He didn't exactly make a strong case for a regular role in the Minnesota bullpen, posting a 9.95 ERA and 2.37 WHIP in his first six appearances this season.
Aug 22 2020Littell (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell left Friday's loss to the Royals with right elbow inflammation. While manager Rocco Baldelli initially said that he didn't believe the injury was serious, Littell will be sidelined for at least 10 days. Sean Poppen and Daniel Coulombe were added to the active roster Saturday.
Aug 21 2020Littell was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation after Friday's loss to the Royals, Audra Martin of Fox Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell felt something in his arm after throwing a pitch in the sixth inning and was forced out of the game afterward. It's unclear how much time the right-hander will miss as a result of the elbow issue, but manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game that he doesn't believe the injury is very serious, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Aug 20 2020Littell was recalled from the Twins' alternate training site Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell was optioned to alternate camp Wednesday to make room for Rich Hill with the Twins' pitching staff, but he'll return to the 28-man roster after Lewis Thorpe was optioned to the alternate training site in a corresponding move. Littell had a rough season debut, but he's been effective since then, allowing just one run on four hits and three walks over four innings.
Aug 19 2020Littell was optioned to Minnesota's alternate camp Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move frees up a spot on the roster for Wednesday's starter, Rich Hill, who was activated from the IL. Littell made two appearances during his most recent stay with the big club, allowing one run while recording two strikeouts in two innings.
Aug 13 2020Littell (hamstring) was activated from the injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Littell has been cleared to return after a brief stay on the IL with a left hamstring strain. Prior to landing on the shelf, the right-hander allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in three innings. Cody Stashak (back) was sent to the IL in a corresponding move.
Aug 12 2020Littell (hamstring) is expected to return from the injured list prior to Friday's game, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell has been sidelined since the beginning of August due to a left hamstring strain. However, he'll return after spending just over the minimum of 10 days on the injured list. The right-hander made two appearances prior to his injury, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one over three innings. He should continue to play a middle relief role once he returns.
Aug 1 2020Littell was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell struggled through his first two outings of the year, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out just one over three innings. It's not yet clear when he's expected to return. Jorge Alcala was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.
Jul 14 2020Littell threw three innings in Tuesday's scrimmage and could be used in longer outings the season, MLB.com reports. "With a guy like Zack, and some other guys that have been starters for us that may find themselves in the bullpen, having the ability to give you an inning or three is gonna be something that's gonna be beneficial to us," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell improved in his second season in the majors last year (2.68 ERA) due to increased velocity (93.8 mph average fastball), reduced walks (6.2%) and keeping the ball in the park (0.97 HR/9). It looks like he will win a role as a middle reliever and could be used for longer outings if a starter is unable to pitch long into games as they ramp up.
Mar 20 2020Littell set a new personal high by hitting 97.3 mph with his fastball during Grapefruit League play, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He did not allow a run while striking out nine and giving up three hits and four walks over seven innings. Seemingly everyone in the Twins' bullpen upped their fastball velocity this spring, and while the 97.3 mph reading was on one pitch, Park notes that Littell's average fastball velocity was also up over his 94 mph average fastball velocity from 2019.
Feb 29 2020Littell struck out three batters in two scoreless innings in Saturday's spring training loss to Pittsburgh. He has eight strikeouts in five innings this spring with no walks and one earned run allowed. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Littell improved in his second season in the majors last year (2.68 ERA) due to increased velocity (93.8 mph average fastball), reduced walks (6.2%) and keeping the ball in the park (0.97 HR/9). He looks set to secure a role in middle relief.

Jul 2 2018Littell was called up from Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Littell is coming off a pair of quality starts against Syracuse, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 10 over 12 innings, marking his best back-to-back performance since early May. The 22-year-old is set to serve as a middle reliever for Minnesota moving forward, though he has the ability to make a spot start should it be required. During his lone outing with the Twins this year, he gave up six earned runs off six hits and four walks across three innings versus the White Sox on June 5.
Jun 6 2018Littell was sent back to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. After serving as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Littell will head back to Triple-A. He struggled in a spot start, surrendering six runs on six hits and four walks while taking the loss.
Jun 6 2018Littell (0-1) allowed six runs on six hits and four walks across three innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the White Sox. He recorded one strikeout.Littell was under siege in the first inning, when he allowed a two-run home run to Jose Abreu before Chicago plated another pair with three straight hits. He didn't allow another run during his time on the mound, but he walked the first two batters in the fourth inning and watched as the bullpen allowed them both to score. Littell was expected to head back to Triple-A Rochester after the start, and this poor performance made that a virtual certainty.
Jun 5 2018Littell was added to the major league roster ahead of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Dustin Morse of the Minnesota Twins reports.Littell is scheduled to start Game 2 of the doubleheader, although he figures to head right back to the minors following the conclusion of Tuesday's action. Through five appearances at Triple-A Rochester, he's posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with a 30:10 K:BB over 28 innings.
Jun 2 2018Littell is expected to start one of the Twins' doubleheader games against the White Sox on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.Littell, a 22-year-old who was acquired from the Yankees last season in the deal that sent Jaime Garcia to New York, will be summoned from the minors to make a spot start for the big club next week. He owns a solid 2.57 ERA and 30:10 K:BB across 28 innings (four starts, one relief appearance) with Triple-A Rochester since earning a promotion at the start of May. There's a good chance Littell will head back to the minors after Tuesday's spot start, but a strong showing could earn him another opportunity with the big club sooner than later.
May 4 2018Littell was promoted to Triple-A Chattanooga on Friday.Littell had an ugly 5.87 ERA through five starts at Double-A Rochester, but the Twins were clearly impressed by his underlying numbers. He struck out an impressive 31.7 percent of batters while walking just 6.9 percent, good for a 2.59 xFIP. Littell is on the 40-man roster, so if he continues his strong performance at the Triple-A level he could earn some big-league playing time by the end of the season.
Mar 7 2018The Twins optioned Littell to Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday.Littell, who was acquired from the Yankees in the trade that sent Jaime Garcia to the Bronx last summer, was one of six players sent back to the Twins' minor-league camp. The 22-year-old right-hander submitted a 2.12 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 157 innings between two levels last season, but isn't viewed as one of the higher-end pitching prospects in the Minnesota farm system.
Nov 20 2017Littell was added to the Twins' 40-man roster Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.Acquired from the Yankees in the Jaime Garcia deal, Littell posted a 2.81 ERA in seven starts for Double-A Chattanooga, giving him a 2.69 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 142:41 K:BB overall last season (157 innings). Littell is now protected from next month's Rule 5 draft, and if he carries his success over to Triple-A next season, he could find his way to the majors before too long.
