Jun 28 2024Calhoun is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting six straight games at DH, Calhoun will get a breather Friday. Instead, Taylor Ward will bat third and DH.
Jun 19 2024Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup for Wednesday's game versus Milwaukee, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was held hitless in seven at-bats through the first two games of the series, and he'll now sit down for Wednesday's series finale. His absence will move Logan O'Hoppe into the DH role while Matt Thaiss starts behind the plate.
Jun 16 2024Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has been displaced as the Angels' designated hitter in four straight games while Taylor Ward has handled those duties since returning from a one-game absence due to a back injury. It's unclear if Calhoun will recapture a regular role when or if Ward moves back to his previous spot in left field. Dating back to May 22, Calhoun has produced a modest .564 OPS, which may have put him at risk of losing his job even if Ward's back injury hadn't cropped up.
Jun 15 2024Calhoun is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Giants, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will remain on the bench for a third game in a row. Taylor Ward will make another start at designated hitter after recently battling a back issue, while Kevin Pillar enters the lineup in left field and bats fourth versus San Francisco.
Jun 14 2024Calhoun is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will take a seat for a second straight game Friday with Kevin Pillar playing left field and batting cleanup while Taylor Ward bats third and DH's. Calhoun is 10-for-30 (.333) in June with five walks and two strikeouts.
Jun 13 2024Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup for Thursday's game against Arizona, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a 2-for-5 performance during the Angels' win Wednesday, Calhoun will take a seat for the series finale Thursday. His absence will move Taylor Ward into the DH spot while Kevin Pillar starts in left field.
May 30 2024Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup Thursday versus the Yankees, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lefty Carlos Rodon is on the mound for the Yankees, so the lefty-hitting Calhoun will take a seat to begin the game. In his place as the designated hitter, Cole Tucker will start and bat eighth.
May 28 2024Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup Tuesday versus the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Nestor Cortes set to pitch for New York, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will step out of the lineup in favor of Cole Tucker, who will bat eighth while serving as the Angels' DH.
May 26 2024Calhoun is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite Cleveland sending out right-hander Ben Lively, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will begin Sunday's game in the dugout. Since being promoted to the majors May 1, Calhoun is slashing .280/.294/.427 with nine doubles, one home run and five RBI over 85 plate appearances, though he's gone 0-for-12 across his last three starts. Kevin Pillar will serve as the designated hitter Sunday and bat in the cleanup spot.
May 17 2024Calhoun went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun opened his night with a groundout in the second inning before singling in four straight at-bats. He's knocked at least three hits in four of his first 13 games with the Angels, including two straight. However, in his other nine games, he's gone 6-for-34 (.176). Calhoun is now slashing .365/.382/.577 with 11 runs scored through 55 plate appearances.
May 12 2024Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was responsible for both of the Angels' runs in the game. The homer was his first with the team, and he's up to three RBI, six runs scored and a .333/.361/.606 slash line over 36 plate appearances since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake at the start of May. That productivity has helped him carve out a role as the Angels' primary designated hitter, though it's unlikely he'll be able to sustain his production in the long run.
May 11 2024Calhoun is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was in the lineup against a lefty Wednesday, but he'll take a seat in this one against southpaw Cole Ragans. Look for Calhoun to play regularly as the designated hitter when the Angels face a right-handed pitcher.
May 5 2024Calhoun will serve as the Angels' designated hitter and cleanup batter in Sunday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will stick in the starting nine for the third straight game after going 4-for-8 with two doubles and one run to begin his tenure with the Angels. At least while Miguel Sano (knee) and Anthony Rendon (hamstring) are on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Calhoun should be in store for regular starts as the Angels' DH against right-handed pitching.
May 4 2024Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a double and a run Friday in a 6-0 win against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun started at DH and batted cleanup in his first action with Los Angeles after being called up from Triple-A on Wednesday. The veteran was productive in his first game with the big club, and he scored the team's second run following a fourth-inning double. With Miguel Sano (knee) and Anthony Rendon (hamstring) among a bevy of Angels on the injured list, Calhoun could see semi-regular starts at designated hitter, though manager Ron Washington has shifted various players into the DH role throughout the campaign.
May 1 2024The Angels selected Calhoun's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has slashed .268/.345/.361 with one home run in 26 contests this season with Salt Lake. The 29-year-old is taking Miguel Sano's (knee) spot on the active roster and could see some starts at designated hitter and/or the outfield versus righties.
Mar 22 2024The Angels reassigned Calhoun to minor-league camp Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun joined the Halos as a non-roster invitee over the winter but posted just a .628 OPS over 33 plate appearances during spring training. He's now likely headed for Triple-A Salt Lake.
Dec 31 2023Calhoun joined the Yankees as a non-roster invitee Saturday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Once an interesting prospect, Calhoun has failed to establish himself across parts of six seasons in the majors, hitting .240/.299/.404 (good for an 84 wRC+) overall. Last season, he appeared in just 22 games and hit just .135/.274/.250. The Yankees will try to get him back on track in camp, but he hasn't given many reasons to believe a sudden improvement is on the horizon.
Dec 6 2023Calhoun signed a minor-league contract Wednesday with the Angels, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal includes an invitation to the major-league side of spring training. Calhoun flashed a lot of potential in the early part of his professional career, but he is now 29 years old and has batted just .225/.292/.352 in 170 big-league games (603 plate appearances) since the beginning of the 2020 campaign.
Aug 2 2023Calhoun elected free agency Wednesday in lieu of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will be moving on from the Yankees and looking to catch on elsewhere on a major-league or minor-league deal after he was activated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment last week. Before hitting the IL in late June with a left quadricep strain, the 28-year-old logged 149 plate appearances for the Yankees, slashing .239/.309/.403 with five home runs and 16 RBI.
Aug 1 2023The Yankees outrighted Calhoun to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last Friday. The 28-year-old former top prospect had slashed .239/.309/.403 with five homers and 16 RBI through 44 major-league games this season for New York.
Jul 28 2023Calhoun (quad) was activated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is over his quad injury following a handful of rehab games with Double-A Somerset, but the Yankees weren't able to find room for him on the active roster. He will now go through the waiver process and, if he clears, will have the option to elect free agency.
Jul 20 2023Calhoun (quad) is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Somerset. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun should be an option again for the Yankees sometime early next week if all goes well on the farm. He had slashed .239/.309/.403 with five homers and 16 RBI through 44 games (149 plate appearances) this season for New York prior to landing on the injured list June 22 due to a left quad strain.
Jul 17 2023Calhoun (quad) will head to Somerset to work out for a few days before beginning a rehab assignment, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun landed on the 10-day injured list June 22 due to a left quad strain, but he's since been cleared to begin baseball activities and is closing in on game action. The team will likely announce an official rehab assignment within the next few days, assuming his workouts go according to plan.
Jul 5 2023Calhoun (quad) has started doing some baseball activities, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is two weeks removed from landing on the injured list with a left quad strain. While there remains no timetable for his return to the active roster, it won't come before the All-Star break.
Jun 22 2023The Yankees placed Calhoun on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left quad strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun said Wednesday he expected to land on the injured list after feeling his left quad "pop," and his prediction has now come true. The 28-year-old outfielder will be shelved for at least a week and a half while Oswaldo Cabrera returns from Triple-A to take Calhoun's roster spot.
Jun 21 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Calhoun injured his left quad during Wednesday's game against Seattle, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: More information on Calhoun's injury will come after he gets evaluated Thursday, but Calhoun said he expects to land on the
Jun 14 2023Calhoun is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will remain on the bench for a second straight game as the Yankees wrap up their two-game series with the Mets. Jake Bauers will start in right field and bat leadoff in the series finale Wednesday.
Jun 10 2023Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has two homers and a double over his last three games, though that comes just after he endured an 0-for-10 skid. With Aaron Judge (toe) sidelined, Calhoun is seeing somewhat steady playing time of late, and he's starting to make the most of it. The outfielder is at a .246/.316/.426 slash line with five homers, 16 RBI, 16 runs scored and seven doubles over 136 plate appearances this year. He should be a fixture in the lineup versus right-handed pitchers, but the Yankees have yet to face a southpaw since Judge landed on the injured list.
Jun 8 2023Calhoun went 3-for-8 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI across both games of a doubleheader against the White Sox on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun led off both games of the twin bill for New York, starting in right field in the matinee and at DH in the nightcap. He accounted for three of the team's five runs in the opener with a run-scoring single and a two-run homer. Calhoun had gone 0-for-10 over his previous four games heading into Thursday, but he looks to be in line for increased playing time with Aaron Judge (toe) on the injured list.
May 27 2023Calhoun is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will take a seat after he went 3-for-7 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a strikeout while starting the last two contests. Aaron Judge will take over at designated hitter while Oswaldo Cabrera enters the lineup in right field and bats seventh versus San Diego.
May 24 2023Calhoun is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With starts in three of the Yankees' previous four games, Calhoun appeared to have re-emerged as the team's preferred option at designated hitter, but he'll be back on the bench Wednesday even with Baltimore bringing a right-hander (Tyler Wells) to the hill. Calhoun is likely to lose out on his semi-regular role as soon as Josh Donaldson (hamstring) returns from the 10-day injured list, perhaps in less than a week.
May 16 2023Calhoun went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 7-4 win against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Judge swatted a solo homer in the first inning, and Calhoun tacked on a two-run shot three batters later to give New York a 3-0 lead. The long ball was Calhoun's first since he homered in back-to-back games against Cleveland on May 2 and May 3, and it snapped a 2-for-14 stretch at the plate over his previous six contests. Calhoun is beginning to see more playing time again, starting three of the Yankees' past four games following a four-contest stretch during which he logged just one at-bat.
May 10 2023Calhoun is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Calhoun finds himself on the bench for a fourth straight game, with two of his absences coming against southpaws and two coming against right-handers. While he appeared to have a grasp on the Yankees' regular designated hitter role versus right-handers, Calhoun looks like he may be the odd man out of the lineup following Aaron Judge's return from the injured list Tuesday.
May 8 2023Calhoun is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw JP Sears on the bump for Oakland, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will take a seat for the second day in a row. DJ LeMahieu will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter in the series opener.
May 7 2023Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Calhoun appears to have settled in as the Yankees' primary designated hitter, but he's still expected to frequently head to the bench when the team opposes left-handed starting pitchers. Though the Rays are deploying a right-hander (Javy Guerra) as their opening pitcher Sunday, left-hander Josh Fleming is slated to cover the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen. Calhoun will cede DH duties to Anthony Rizzo in the series finale.
May 4 2023Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a walk in a 4-3 extra-inning victory against Cleveland on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun put New York on the board with his solo shot in the fifth inning, and he came through with a clutch single to plate the tying run in the bottom of the ninth. It was the second straight game with a long ball for the veteran, who did not go deep in any of his first 13 games this season. Calhoun has taken advantage of the assortment of injuries to position players that the Yankees are currently dealing with, as he's started five of the team's past six games.
May 3 2023Calhoun went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His seventh-inning shot off James Karinchak proved to be the game-winning hit, as well as Calhoun's first homer in pinstripes. The 28-year-old has been getting plenty of at-bats lately against right-handed pitching due to all the injuries on the Yankees' roster, and he's responded by batting .304 (7-for-23) while starting six of the last eight games.
May 1 2023Calhoun will start in right field and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Calhoun was out of the lineup for Sunday's 15-2 loss to the Texas while lefty Martin Perez was starting for the Rangers, but Calhoun went 0-for-1 in a pinch-hitting appearance to bring an end to his modest four-game hitting streak. Though he's sitting on an unremarkable .531 OPS over 41 plate appearances on the season, Calhoun still seems to have recaptured more regular playing time against right-handed pitching while Aaron Judge (hip) remains day-to-day and three other key hitters (Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson and Harrison Bader) are on the injured list.
Apr 27 2023Calhoun is out of the lineup Thursday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anthony Rizzo will serve as the DH and bat third with left-hander Andrew Heaney on the mound for the Rangers. DJ LeMahieu is at first base and hitting cleanup. Calhoun carries an overall .531 OPS this season with the Yankees and only three of his 33 total plate appearances have come against a lefty.
Sep 18 2022The Giants designated Calhoun for assignment Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Francisco dropped Calhoun from its 40-man roster to clear room for right-handed reliever Jharel Cotton, whom the team claimed off waivers from the Twins. Calhoun went 1-for-8 at the dish during his brief four-game stint with the Giants last week before he was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.
Sep 17 2022Calhoun was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was recalled by the Giants on Monday and went 1-for-8 with an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts over four games with the big-league club. However, he'll head back to the minors after Heliot Ramos was called up Saturday.
Sep 12 2022Calhoun had his contract selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is set to see his first major-league action with the Giants after being traded June 23 in exchange for Steven Duggar. He'll immediately get a shot in the starting nine, serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh Monday evening.
Jun 23 2022Calhoun was traded from the Rangers to the Giants in exchange for Steven Duggar (oblique) on Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun hit just .136 with a homer, seven runs and two RBI over 18 games with the Rangers to begin the year, but he was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock in early June. He's slashed .217/.264/.410 with five home runs, 20 RBI and 18 runs over 21 games in Round Rock and will now attempt to carve out a role in the Giants organization.
Jun 5 2022Calhoun was designated for assignment Sunday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun mentioned that he hoped to be traded after he was optioned to Triple-A a month ago, and now the other 29 teams will have the option of claiming him off waivers. He never hit enough in the majors (career .241/.300/.407 slash line) to make up for his subpar defense. Calhoun slashed .231/.282/.415 with four home runs in 16 games at Triple-A.
May 1 2022Calhoun said Sunday that he hopes to be traded at some point after being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun hit just .136 with a home run, three doubles, seven runs and two RBI over 18 games with the Rangers early in the season, but his .344 xwOBA suggests that he was relatively unlucky. While the 27-year-old will report to Round Rock after he was part of Sunday's roster cuts, he hopes to have a strong performance in the minors that he can parlay into a change of scenery. Calhoun hit a career-high 21 homers for Texas in 2019, but he's gone yard just eight times since then and has slashed .223/.288/.339 over the last three seasons.
Apr 30 2022Calhoun isn't starting Saturday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with right-hander Bryce Elder starting for Atlanta on Saturday, Calhoun will get a breather after he went 0-for-11 with a run, two walks and two strikeouts over his last four appearances. Nick Solak will take over as the designated hitter and bat eighth.
Apr 25 2022Calhoun is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with fellow left-handed hitters Brad Miller and Kole Calhoun, Willie Calhoun will take a seat with southpaw Framber Valdez taking the hill for Houston in the series opener. With Willie Calhoun out of the lineup, Andy Ibanez will fill in as Texas' designated hitter.
Apr 24 2022Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with Kole Calhoun and Brad Miller, Willie is one of three lefty-hitting regulars who will take a seat with southpaw Cole Irvin on the hill for Oakland. Mitch Garver will cede catching duties to Jonah Heim and serve as the Rangers' designated hitter for the afternoon while Willie takes a seat.
Apr 21 2022Calhoun isn't starting Thursday's game against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has started against just one left-hander this year, and he'll take a seat with southpaw Marco Gonzales starting for the Mariners on Thursday. Andy Ibanez will serve as the designated hitter while Charlie Culberson starts at third base.
Apr 19 2022Calhoun will sit against southpaw Robbie Ray and the Mariners on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has now been on the bench against four of the five lefties Texas has faced this season. Andy Ibanez will rest his legs as the designated hitter, with Charlie Culberson starting at third base.
Apr 15 2022Calhoun isn't starting Friday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will get a day off in Friday's matchup since left-hander Reid Detmers is on the mound for the Angels. Nick Solak will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh.
Apr 12 2022Calhoun came off the bench Monday against the Rockies and went 1-for-1 with a home run as a pinch hitter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun couldn't have gone yard at a better time for the Rangers, as he launched his solo shot to right field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. His efforts were not enough to lift Texas to victory, however, as the Rockies still closed the game out in extras. Calhoun has not started against southpaws this season, but he should be back into the starting lineup when the Rangers face a righty -- which could be the case Tuesday in the second game of the series against Colorado, as Chad Kuhl is expected to take the mound.
Apr 11 2022Calhoun is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Rangers facing a southpaw starter (Austin Gomber) for the second straight day, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will head to the bench once again. Andy Ibanez will handle designated-hitter duties while Calhoun sits.
Apr 10 2022Calhoun is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was in the lineup as the designated hitter the first two games of the season but went 0-for-8, and he's on the bench Sunday with left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu pitching for Toronto. Catcher Mitch Garver will serve as the designated hitter in the series finale while Jonah Heim works behind the plate.
Apr 4 2022Calhoun will be on the Opening Day roster, independent baseball journalist Jeff Wilson reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was informed by manager Chris Woodward that he's made the roster, which makes official what everyone presumed. On Monday, Calhoun started at designated hitter, his expected role entering the regular season, and went 1-for-3 in a game against the Padres. The lefty-hitting outfielder hasn't done much at the plate this spring to earn the starting DH job, slashing .235 /.278/.602 over 36 plate appearances, but the Rangers hope to resurrect the Calhoun who hit 21 home runs over 83 games in 2019 before injuries derailed his career.
Mar 22 2022Calhoun and the Rangers agreed Tuesday on a one-year, $1.3 million contract to avoid arbitration, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun's lack of defensive utility and poor track record of durability over the past two seasons were likely prominent factors in him securing only a modest payout in his first year of salary arbitration. Coming off a 2021 season in which he hit .250 with six home runs over 284 plate appearances, Calhoun is expected to serve as the Rangers' primary starting designated hitter against right-handed pitching during the upcoming season.
Oct 2 2021Calhoun went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-2 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun led off the home first by wrapping a ball around the right field foul pole to stake the Rangers to an early lead. The homer represented Calhoun's first since May 17 and his sixth of the season. Since returning from a forearm injury this September, the outfielder is hitting a solid .250.
Sep 28 2021Calhoun is not starting Tuesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will once again move back to the bench against a lefty starter (Packy Naughton) after going 3-for-8 with a double, triple and two RBI during the previous two contests. Andy Ibanez will shift to DH as Nick Solak starts at the keystone.
Sep 24 2021Calhoun is not starting Friday against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was not in Thursday's starting nine, but he did record a single in two at-bats off the bench. He'll begin Friday's game on the bench once again with Baltimore sending lefty Alexander Wells to the bump. Nick Solak draws the start at second base, moving Andy Ibanez to designated hitter.
Sep 23 2021Calhoun isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun went 1-for-8 with an RBI and a strikeout across the last two games, and he'll retreat to the bench in Thursday's series opener. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will serve as the designated hitter while Nick Solak enters the lineup at second base.
Sep 20 2021Calhoun isn't starting Monday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun had started each of the last five games, and he went 6-for-17 with a double, a run, an RBI and a walk. Andy Ibanez will serve as the designated hitter while Nick Solak starts at second base.
Sep 19 2021Calhoun went 1-for-1 with a walk before being removed for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning of Saturday's 2-1 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is a career .233 hitter (.687 OPS) against left-handers and was removed once White Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet entered the game. The Rangers have always been cognizant of Calhoun's splits and will continue to be as they evaluate him for a spot on the 2022 roster. His defense isn't considered everyday worthy, so it's vital that Calhoun hit consistently regardless of an opponent's throwing hand.
Sep 16 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was activated off the 60-day injured list prior to the game after missing months with a fractured forearm. He'll get a 17-game run at the end of the season to prove he has a future with the Rangers, who must decide to keep him on the 40-man roster by tendering him a contract during the offseason. The salary increase is not exorbitant, but the organization must determine if he's a fit on the roster going forward. Calhoun appeared to be a long-term piece in 2019, when hit 21 home runs with an .847 OPS over 337 plate appearances, but he's been set back by injuries and poor hitting since. As a defensively challenged outfielder, Calhoun must hit to have a role. That means designated hitter is the likely role, but the Rangers are evaluating others, including Yohel Pozo, during the final weeks and may not want to carry two DH types.
Sep 15 2021The Rangers activated Calhoun (forearm) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports. He'll serve as the Rangers' designated hitter and bat second against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will be making his first appearance for the Rangers since June 26 after he was sidelined for nearly three months while recovering from left forearm surgery. He recently wrapped up a seven-game rehab assignment between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Round Rock, going 6-for-23 with a home run and four walks. Calhoun will likely fill a near-everyday role for the rest of the season as he looks to build a case for Texas to tender him a contract this offseason, when he'll be arbitration eligible for the first time.
Sep 14 2021Calhoun (forearm) will be activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's game against Houston, independent baseball journalist Jeff Wilson reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun began a rehab assignment with the rookie-level ACL Rangers on Sept. 6 and later moved to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. In total, he's gone 6-for-21 with a homer, five RBI and three walks across six minor-league games. Calhoun has been out since fracturing his forearm in late June, and he should get substantial opportunities to play during the final three weeks of the season.
Sep 12 2021Calhoun (forearm) is scheduled to join Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday then play Monday and Tuesday, Eric He of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun moves his rehab from the rookie-level AZL Rangers to Round Rock. He's 6-for-17 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored over five games at the Arizona Complex League. The move up to the Express suggests Calhoun could return to Texas by the end of the week.
Sep 7 2021Calhoun (forearm) went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for the ACL Rangers on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun began a rehab assignment with the Rangers' entry in the Arizona Complex League. The injured outfielder/DH is expected to return before the end of the regular season, at which point he can be evaluated along with recent outfield callups Jason Martin, DJ Peters and Leody Taveras.
Sep 6 2021Calhoun (forearm) began a rehab assignment Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has been out since undergoing forearm surgery in late June. He posted a .254/.323/.385 slash line with five homers in 59 games prior to the injury. Given the length of his absence, his rehab assignment probably won't be a short one.
Aug 20 2021Calhoun (forearm) is slowly gaining strength but is not ready to resume play on the field, Arianna Vedia of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun took batting practice Wednesday and is in good shape, but his left wrist is about 70 percent. "At this point, we are where we are, we can't add games to the end of the season. So, however many games he does play or however many at-bats he does get, we've got to evaluate him based off of that," Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. "That might not be fair, but it is what it is." The Rangers are hopeful he can a couple of weeks worth of plate appearances to see where he's at. The team has filtered in outfield prospects throughout the season, and at this point, Calhoun may have to win a roster spot during spring training 2022.
Aug 5 2021Calhoun (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move is simply a procedural one, as Calhoun has been on the IL recovering from left forearm surgery since late June and isn't expected back until mid-September. Yonny Hernandez was selected from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move, filling Calhoun's 40-man roster spot.
Jul 22 2021Texas general manager John Daniels said Calhoun (forearm) could return during September. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun underwent surgery to repair a fractured forearm June 29 after he was hit by a pitch a few days prior. He had been the Rangers' primary designated hitter at the time of the injury, and that position has been filled by a rotation of players since. David Dahl (against righties) and Andy Ibanez (against lefties) are the players of choice when manager Chris Woodward isn't giving a regular in the field a break.
Jun 28 2021Calhoun will undergo surgery on his fractured left forearm Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch Saturday against the Royals. The Rangers have yet to specify a timeline for his return, but he'll likely be out for an extended period.
Jun 27 2021Calhoun was placed on the injured list Sunday with a fracture of the ulna bone in his left forearm. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move comes as no surprise as it was reported Saturday that Calhoun had suffered a fracture in his forearm. A recovery timeline hasn't been disclosed at this point for the outfielder, but he figures to be out through most of July at a minimum. Outfielder Jason Martin was recalled in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 26 2021Calhoun has been diagnosed with a left forearm fracture, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun initially stayed in Saturday's game after being hit on the arm by a pitch in the bottom of the second inning. He exited an inning later and it now looks like he could be in line for an extended absence. The Rangers will likely provide a concrete timeline in the coming days, but the outfielder seems likely to be out at least through most of July.
Jun 20 2021Calhoun is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will receive a day off after starting the past six games and going 5-for-25 with a triple, a walk, three RBI and a run during that stretch. Jason Martin will take over in left field and bat eighth for the Rangers.
Jun 11 2021Calhoun is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With lefty Clayton Kershaw on the bump for the Dodgers, Calhoun will get the beginning portion of Friday's game off. Eli White will play left field and bat second.
Jun 7 2021Calhoun batted sixth and went 1-for-2 with two walks in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has recently batted leadoff against right-handers, but he was replaced by Brock Holt on Sunday against Tampa Bay righty Michael Wacha. As a leadoff hitter, Calhoun is slashing .231/.304/.356 in 26 games.
Jun 3 2021Calhoun is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Someone has to sit due to the lack of a designated hitter with the game being played under National League rules, and that will be Calhoun this time around. He'll hit the bench after making 15 straight starts, a stretch in which he struggled to a .207/.270/.379 line. Khris Davis starts in left field for just the second time this season in his absence.
May 27 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has hit safely in six of his last nine games, though this was just the second time he recorded more than one knock in that span. The outfielder is hitting .247 with a .778 OPS, four homers and 10 RBI across 22 games this month.
May 17 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old got Sunday off while nursing a sore ankle, but he appeared to be 100 percent healthy in this one. On the season, Calhoun is hitting .287 with five homers, 11 RBI and 12 runs through 25 games.
May 16 2021Calhoun is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros after fouling a ball off his ankle Saturday night, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The extent of the injury is uncertain. Calhoun could probably use a day to sit back and observe anyway, as he's in the midst of a 1-for-17 stretch. Khris Davis will serve as the designated hitter against right-hander Lance McCullers.
May 13 2021Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Thursday's loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun got the scoring started by taking Cristian Javier deep in the first inning. It was the fourth long ball of the year for the 26-year-old, who has earned the opportunity to play every day even with the recent activation of Khris Davis off the injured list. On the season, Calhoun is batting a sturdy .309/.378/.481 across 22 games.
May 9 2021Calhoun is going to play every day even with the activation of Khris Davis off the injured list, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. "The way Willie [Calhoun] has been swinging the bat, he's going to play every day," manager Chris Woodward said. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun, who took an .895 OPS into Saturday's game against Seattle, started in left field against right-hander Erik Swanson, just the third time in 18 starts he played the field. David Dahl served as DH against the right-hander. Davis is expected to DH against southpaws while Calhoun and Dahl rotate at left field and DH against righties.
May 7 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun plated Jonah Heim with the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning. He's now hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games and posted a .949 OPS during that stretch. He's been in the lineup nearly every day, but that may change soon. The Rangers are expected to call up Khris Davis during the weekend series against the Mariners, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. It's uncertain how manager Chris Woodward plans to integrate Davis, but it seems logical he and Calhoun could platoon at DH.
May 5 2021Calhoun isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun had started each of the last five games and hit .333 with two homers, a double, three runs, three RBI and two strikeouts during that time. Andy Ibanez will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.
May 2 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 in Sunday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has been an offensive catalyst for Texas this season and posted his second straight multi-hit appearance while also extending his hitting streak to nine games. The 26-year-old is hitting .361 during that nine-game stretch.
May 1 2021Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and knocked in a pair during Saturday's victory over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed hitter smashed a solo shot in the sixth inning. The 26-year-old kept his hitting streak alive and is slashing an impressive .333/.388/.489 as he has been a spark plug for the Rangers.
Apr 29 2021Calhoun isn't starting Thursday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun had recorded hits in each of the last six contests and went 7-for-23 with a home run, five runs, two RBI, two walks and four strikeouts during that time. Joey Gallo will serve as the designated hitter while Eli White enters the lineup in center field.
Apr 26 2021Calhoun batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a hit by pitch, and a run scored in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has hit atop the order the last two times the Rangers have faced right-handers, reaching base safely five times in 10 plate appearances. The Rangers, who scored 3.91 runs per game (T-21st), have scored 11 runs in the two games with Calhoun leading off.
Apr 24 2021Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun missed the first weeks of the regular season due to a groin injury but has gotten off to a strong start, hitting safely in five of his first six games and posting two multi-hit outings in that stretch. This was his first home run of the campaign, and the veteran should see most of his at-bats as the Rangers' designated hitter going forward.
Apr 21 2021Calhoun isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will take a seat after he went hitless with a strikeout in four at-bats Tuesday. Adolis Garcia will serve as the designated hitter while Leody Taveras starts in center field Wednesday.
Apr 19 2021Calhoun did not start Sunday but entered as a pinch hitter and played two innings in left field. He singled for Leody Taveras in the eighth inning of the Rangers' 1-0 extra-inning win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun missed the first 14 games of the season with a groin injury and returned to action Saturday as the designated hitter. This was his first experience in the field since the injury, and he handled himself well, including a diving catch for the first out of the 10th inning. It's expected that Calhoun plays more DH than left field.
Apr 18 2021Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old went 2-for-4 as the designated hitter in his season debut Saturday after missing the first two weeks of the season with a groin issue, and he'll receive the day off Sunday. David Dahl will be the designated hitter in the series finale, while Eli White starts in left field.
Apr 17 2021Calhoun (groin) has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting Saturday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun dealt with a groin injury since early March, but he's been appearing in simulated games since the end of March. The 26-year-old will bat seventh Saturday and should serve as the Rangers' primary designated hitter now that he's active.
Apr 16 2021Calhoun (groin) could be activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun recently cleared intake testing and had been working at the Rangers' alternate training site across the past several days. However, he's now on his way to join the team in Arlington, and he could return for Saturday's game against the Orioles. Once he's officially activated, Calhoun should serve as the primary designated hitter for Texas.
Apr 15 2021Calhoun (groin) was active for an alternate-camp exhibition game Wednesday against Houston after he cleared intake testing, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun must serve at least three days at the alternate site before being added to the active roster. That means the earliest he can be activated is Saturday, but manager Chris Woodward said Calhoun's return is dependent on getting enough at-bats.
Apr 12 2021Calhoun (groin) was expected to join the Rangers at their alternate site Sunday, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will need to complete the COVID-19 intake process before competing in exhibition games there. That puts him on schedule to possibly return to the Rangers at some point later this week.
Mar 30 2021Calhoun (groin) took nine at-bats during a simulated game Sunday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun will remain in Arizona when the Rangers head east to Kansas City to kick off the regular season against the Royals on Thursday. The plan is for Calhoun to pick up more at-bats in live games and be ready to go about two weeks into the regular season.
Mar 16 2021Calhoun is expected to spend the first two weeks of the regular season on the injured list with a low-grade groin strain, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun had just one hit in 11 at-bats this spring before being shut down with a groin issue. He'll be in the mix for starts at designated hitter and left field once he's back in action, though he may not be ahead of David Dahl or Khris Davis at either spot.
Mar 14 2021Calhoun (grion) could begin the 2021 season on the injured list, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old apparently hasn't suffered a setback with the groin injury, but the Rangers are being cautious with his return. Calhoun is poised for an everyday role between left field and designated hitter this season, but David Dahl and Khris Davis could handle the bulk of those opportunities at each respective position to open 2021.
Mar 9 2021The Rangers announced Tuesday that Calhoun is dealing with groin tightness, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team hasn't indicated that the injury is especially serious, but Calhoun will likely be withheld from the Cactus League lineup for at least a couple days while he recovers from the issue. The 26-year-old is expected to serve as an everyday player for Texas in left field or at designated hitter this season.
Mar 5 2021Calhoun no longer feels the anxiety that he initially experienced when first returning from a broken jaw, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That anxious feeling was something Calhoun dealt with against left-handers. "I feel completely normal again," he said. "Last year I would bail out on off-speed pitches. I would be really jumpy. I wouldn't really stay in there." In four plate appearances against left-handers this spring, Calhoun has a single and two walks. The 26-year-old seeks to improve on a .190/.231/.260 slash line over 108 plate appearances in 2020.
Mar 1 2021Calhoun started in left field, batted leadoff and went 1-for-2 in Sunday's spring game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: David Dahl (shoulder) is expected to be the starting left fielder, so Calhoun was filling in. His main role in 2021 figures to be at designated hitter, where he's competing with Khris Davis for at-bats. Davis served as the DH on Sunday and went 0-for-2. Texas manager Chris Woodward said both players will get ample opportunities this spring to win the job as the primary DH.
Feb 13 2021Calhoun may be squeezed out of a meaningful role in 2021, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The signing of David Dahl (shoulder) should move Calhoun to a depth role in left field, while the recent acquisition of Khris Davis crowds designated hitter. The two could form a platoon at DH, although having two players essentially limited to DH would be a luxury. Calhoun had a disappointing 2020, posting a .491 OPS over 108 plate appearances
Sep 27 2020Calhoun is not in the lineup Sunday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun went 5-for-17 with one homer, one double and three RBI as the designated hitter over the past four games, but he'll head to the bench for the season finale. Shin-Soo Choo (wrist) returns from the injured list and is batting leadoff Sunday.
Sep 24 2020Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI double during Thursday's loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun got the Rangers on the board with a two-run blast against Cristian Javier in the sixth inning. He also tacked on an RBI double in the seventh. It was the first long ball and the second double of the year for the 25-year-old, who is hitting .193/.232/.273 overall.
Sep 22 2020Calhoun isn't in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun went hitless in four at-bats Monday, and he'll get a breather for the series opener against the Diamondbacks. Nick Solak will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday.
Sep 19 2020Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun returned to the lineup Friday after taking a seat against a left-hander Thursday and registered his first hit since returning from a hamstring injury. This was supposed to be a full season for the outfielder, but Calhoun has been through a fractured jaw, a strained oblique and a hamstring injury in 2020. Those injuries and the pandemic have limited him to just 21 games and 74 plate appearances. As such, the Rangers plan to send him to the instructional league during the offseason, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "Willie has to keep working," manager Chris Woodward said. "He has to keep working to prove that he is an adequate defensive player. I don't know what our roster is going to be like next year. Obviously he is one of our best hitters. As far as playing the outfield, he has to earn it. He has to earn a spot." With Shin-Soo Choo (wrist) becoming a free agent, designated hitter could be Calhoun's landing spot in 2021.
Sep 17 2020Calhoun isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Framber Valdez starting for the Astros on Thursday, Calhoun will retreat to the bench. Nick Solak will serve as the designated hitter in his absence.
Sep 16 2020Calhoun went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun returned to the lineup after being activated from the injured list. He hadn't played since Aug. 19 when he was placed on the IL with a strained hamstring. Calhoun served as the designated hitter, which could be his primary role in 2021.
Sep 15 2020Calhoun (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting Tuesday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was expected to be activated Tuesday after he was sidelined since Aug. 20 with a strained left hamstring. He's serving as the designated hitter Tuesday and could continue to do so as the Rangers ease him back into action.
Sep 13 2020Calhoun (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter when he returns from the injured list Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Texas manager Chris Woodward said Calhoun is not yet ready to play the outfield, so he'll return as the DH. Shin-Soo Choo had been the primary DH, but he's currently sidelined by a hand injury, giving Calhoun a clear path to at-bats. The outfield will be manned by Eli White or Nick Solak in left field, Leody Taveras in center and Joey Gallo in right. Because Choo becomes a free agent this offseason, designated hitter could be Calhoun's primary role in 2021.
Sep 12 2020Manager Chris Woodward said Saturday that he expects Calhoun (hamstring) to be activated Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has been sidelined since Aug. 20 due to a strained left hamstring, but his return appears to be imminent. Woodward said that he hopes to get him as many at-bats as possible over the remainder of the season, so he's unlikely to face any restrictions once he returns to the active roster.
Aug 20 2020Calhoun (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Calhoun will head to the injured list after suffering a strained left hamstring during Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Padres. A team source said the outfielder will be out a minimum of three weeks, according to Levi Weaver of The Athletic. Nick Solak is starting in left field in place of Calhoun on Thursday, while Yadiel Rivera was promoted from the team's alternate training site to take his place on the roster.
Aug 19 2020Calhoun was diagnosed with a left hamstring strain after leaving Wednesday's loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun gave the Rangers the lead during the 10th inning by beating out an infield single with the bases loaded, but he tweaked his hamstring while running to first base. The severity of the injury remains unclear, and Calhoun will undergo further evaluation Thursday.
Aug 18 2020Calhoun remains on the bench Tuesday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has struggled mightily at the plate this season, hitting just .170/.207/.226, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him start to lose playing time. Nick Solak starts in left field Tuesday, with Scott Heineman starting in center.
Aug 17 2020Calhoun isn't starting Monday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun went just 1-for-11 with a walk and one strikeout over the past three games, and he'll get a breather Monday. Shin-Soo Choo will shift to left field with Danny Santana serving as the designated hitter.
Aug 13 2020Calhoun went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is riding a three-game hitting streak, a span in which he's gone 5-for-13 (.385) with one triple and six RBI. He is yet to homer this season but should retain value in most formats if he keeps hitting like he has done it this week while producing runs at a consistent rate.
Aug 10 2020Calhoun went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly in Monday's 10-2 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun scored Shin-soo Choo on a triple in the first inning and Nick Solak on a sacrifice fly in the third to account for the Rangers' two runs Monday. The 25-year-old Calhoun is hitting .152 with three RBI, one run scored and two extra-base hits across 33 at-bats in 2020.
Aug 9 2020Calhoun is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Calhoun will check out of the starting nine with a southpaw (Andrew Heaney) on the bump for the Angels. Rob Refsnyder will join the lineup in place of Calhoun, who is batting just .107 on the season. He's produced one extra-base hit (a double) in 10 games.
Aug 8 2020Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun started the last two games after the Rangers had a stretch of games against left-handers. He hasn't attained a comfort level against southpaws after suffering a facial fracture during spring training. His two hits Friday were just his second and third hits of the season.
Aug 5 2020Calhoun is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old recently admitted he's still having difficulties facing left-handers since recovering from a fractured jaw in the spring, so it's not much of a surprise he's on the bench with southpaw Sean Manaea on the mound for Oakland. Calhoun seems likely to sit against most lefties as he tries to regain his comfort level. Shin-Soo Choo will start in left field Wednesday while Rob Refsnyder serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 4 2020Calhoun isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun has gone just 1-for-18 with one RBI and five strikeouts to begin the season, and he'll retreat to a bench role for the third time in the past five games. Adolis Garcia will start in left field, batting eighth.
Aug 1 2020Calhoun isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun found playing time as the Rangers' designated hitter and left fielder to begin the season, but he'll play a bench role for the second time in the past three contests. Nick Solak will take over in left field Saturday, batting second.
Jul 29 2020Calhoun entered Wednesday's game as a pinch hitter then played an inning in left field in a 7-4 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun's appearance in left field was the first time he's played in the field this season. He had been limited to designated hitter since returning from hip injury first sustained in summer camp. Calhoun is hitless with four strikeouts in 11 at-bats thus far.
Jul 25 2020Calhoun went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun made his season debut Saturday after dealing with a hip injury the last two weeks. He made a quicker recovery than expected and could return to left field as early as Sunday.
Jul 24 2020Calhoun (hip) is scheduled to serve as the designated hitter Saturday against the Rockies, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old is absent from the Opening Day lineup, but he won't have to wait long before getting his first start of the season. Calhoun suffered the right hip flexor injury July 13, but it doesn't appear he'll begin the season with significant limitations.
Jul 21 2020Calhoun (hip) took five at-bats in a simulated game Monday and is likely to avoid the injured list to start the season, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun made 10 plate appearances Sunday and Monday, indicating he may be ready for Opening Day or soon thereafter. Texas manager Chris Woodward is unsure whether Calhoun will be ready to play left field or DH for the opener, but he feels the outfielder could be available for the second or third game of the season. The Rangers want to see him run with intensity before making any decisions, but it looks like Calhoun will not miss much time.
Jul 20 2020Calhoun (hip) had five at-bats in Sunday's intrasquad game, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Recent reports indicated Calhoun was likely headed to the injured list, but his appearance in Sunday's game alters that narrative. "They are better off than I anticipated," said manager Chris Woodward, referring to both Calhoun and Robinson Chirinos (ankle), who also took part in the game. "That was a welcome sight to see Chirinos catching and getting some live at-bats. I'm not sure they'll be ready for Opening Day or we would want them ready for Opening Day." If the two players are ready a few days beyond Friday's opener, Woodward said they will likely keep them on the active roster instead of placing them on the injured list.
Jul 17 2020Manager Chris Woodward indicated Friday that Calhoun (hip) is likely to begin the season on the injured list, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team had already indicated it was likely the 25-year-old wouldn't be ready for Opening Day, and Woodward said, "I'm going to try to get that date out of his head." Calhoun was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his right hip flexor earlier this week, but the injury isn't expected to result in a significant absence.
Jul 15 2020Calhoun was diagnosed with a strained hip flexor Wednesday and is doubtful to be ready for Opening Day, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Calhoun's MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain in his right hip, general manager Jon Daniels said that he'll likely miss the start of the season. However, Daniels sounded optimistic that Calhoun shouldn't miss much time past Opening Day. The left fielder sustained the injury Monday during the team's intrasquad matchup.
Jul 14 2020Calhoun (hip) underwent an MRI on Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun experienced tightness in his right hip flexor that forced him to be removed from Monday's intrasquad game, and he received further examination Tuesday. The results of the MRI aren't yet known. The 25-year-old has hit .258/.311/.468 with 24 home runs and 63 RBI across parts of three seasons with the Rangers.
Jul 13 2020Calhoun was removed from the Rangers' intrasquad game Monday with tightness in his right hip flexor, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun's exit came as a precautionary move. The 25-year-old outfielder is in line to begin the season as the starting left fielder, coming off his third major-league campaign hitting .269/.337/.524 with 21 home runs and 48 RBI during 2019.
May 1 2020Calhoun recently took his first round of batting practice since undergoing surgery on his jaw, Brice Paterik of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun, who answered several questions on MLB Radio, discussed his recovery from the injury among other topics. On April 22, he posted a video of himself taking batting practice on Instagram. "That was a huge day for me because before that I wasn't able to hit off live batting practice or the machine because of the vibrations it would have sent to my jaw. I thought I felt really good then," said Calhoun, who declared himself 100 percent. The outfielder said there is numbness from his right cheek down to his jaw, a condition doctors told him he'll have to live with for the next six months. Calhoun added that he will be hitting with a protective flap on his helmet.
Apr 6 2020Calhoun (jaw) has no restrictions in workouts and is focussed on regaining his strength and getting back into his conditioning program, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It sounds like Calhoun is now focussed on making up for lost time after recovering from a fractured jaw. Conditioning has been an issue at times during Calhoun's career, so the hope is that his body is ready to go if the season is able to get underway.
Mar 30 2020Calhoun (jaw) took swings Monday for the first time since undergoing surgery for a fractured jaw three weeks ago, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun still has numbness in his cheek where a nerve was compressed by a Julio Urias fastball. He's been lifting light weights and working to reverse weight loss since the surgery. The pause in the season makes it possible that Calhoun will be ready by the time MLB resumes activities.
Mar 25 2020Calhoun (jaw) is expected to be ready to play once the season eventually begins, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The date for the rescheduled Opening Day is still up in the air, but Calhoun is expected to be back from his fractured jaw in time to play. He's begun cardio work by riding a stationary bike, though it's not yet clear when he'll resume baseball activities.
Mar 17 2020Calhoun (jaw) will begin light cardio activities later this week, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was the victim of an errant fastball to the face during Cactus League action and required surgery to repair his fractured jaw. He's currently exhibiting no concussion symptoms, so he should be able to resume activities shortly. He had been expected to miss time at the start of the regular season, but with Opening Day delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's possible he won't wind up missing any games.
Mar 9 2020Calhoun will be re-examined in two weeks after undergoing jaw surgery Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun's timetable for a return remains up in the air following Monday's procedure, and according to Grant, the outfielder is likely to open the 2020 campaign on the injured list. A better idea of his availability moving forward could come in two weeks.
Mar 8 2020Calhoun received a CT scan and examination following Sunday's game that revealed a fracture of his jaw, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun is expected to undergo further evaluation Monday to reveal a more clear timeline for his recovery. The 25-year-old was struck on the right side of his face by a 95-mph fastball from Julio Urias during Sunday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers. After being carted off the field, Calhoun was joined in the hospital by Rangers manager Chris Woodward, who left mid-game to make sure young outfielder was all right, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News.
Sep 26 2019Calhoun went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run Thursday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's contest but was able to return to the starting lineup Thursday. He took advantage by reaching base three times, highlighted by a a solo home run in the seventh inning. Though he was plagued by an inconsistent role throughout the first half of the season, Calhoun has smacked 16 home runs since the All-Star break.
Sep 25 2019Calhoun was diagnosed with a left forearm contusion after X-rays came back negative Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Calhoun was hit by a pitch on the forearm during the first inning but remained in the game until the third inning when he was lifted for a pinch hitter. The 24-year-old should be considered day-to-day with four games left in the regular season.
Sep 22 2019Calhoun went 2-for-5 with two solo homers in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old outfielder went deep in each of his first two at-bats Sunday. Calhoun has four long balls this month with a pair of multi-homer performances, giving him 20 on the season alongside a .848 OPS.
Sep 6 2019Calhoun went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in a 7-6 victory against the Orioles on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The pair of homers broke a modest streak of six straight games without a home run. Calhoun is heating up in the homer department as the season nears its finish line; he smashed nine in August and now has a pair this month, which accounts for more than 60 percent of his long balls this season. Calhoun is batting .269 with 18 home runs, 40 RBI and 37 runs in 238 at-bats this season.

Jul 25 2018Calhoun went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 13-10 loss to Oakland.Calhoun was back in the lineup after getting a rest day Monday and swatted his first major-league home run. The Rangers are making room for him by having Joey Gallo move over to right field while Nomar Mazara (thumb) is sidelined, leaving Calhoun to patrol left field, the position he played in the minors.
Jul 24 2018Calhoun did not start Monday but entered the game late in a pinch-hitting role in a 15-3 loss to Oakland. He grounded out in his lone at-bat and is 2-for-14 since his callup last Friday.Calhoun had started the first three games after his promotion, but was on the bench Monday despite Joey Gallo (ankle) being unavailable. There's a bit of a crowd on the roster, making it difficult to get Calhoun in the lineup daily. The Rangers would like to deploy him at designated hitter, but they are using that spot for Shin-Soo Choo or Adrian Beltre. That leaves left field, the position he played in the minors and where Gallo has been Texas' starter for much of the season. Gallo could slide back to first base, but the Rangers have liked how Ronald Guzman has handled that position. It's good that Texas rewarded Calhoun who has been a model employee since a late-May benching at Triple-A Round Rock, but they should be giving him regular at-bats to make the most of his stay in the majors.
Jul 20 2018Calhoun was called up by the Rangers on Friday. He'll be batting second as a designated hitter against the Indians.Calhoun was somewhat surprisingly demoted to Triple-A Round Rock to start the season, ostensibly to work on his defense but likely also so that the Rangers' could gain an extra year of service time. After hitting a solid .306/.360/.444 for Round Rock, he's been called up to replace the injured Nomar Mazara (thumb) and could be in line for regular at-bats with the big-league club.
Jul 16 2018Calhoun went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Sunday for Triple-A Round Rock in its 11-1 loss to Oklahoma City.Calhoun's career-best 18-game hit streak officially came to an end, wrapping up an outstanding stretch of action for the 23-year-old. During the streak, Calhoun slashed .425/.481/.589 with two home runs, four steals and 15 RBI. Concerns about Calhoun's defensive shortcomings have thus far prevented the Rangers from promoting him to the big leagues this season, but the outfielder should get a look at some point in the second half.
Jul 5 2018Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored Wednesday, extending his hitting streak to 11 games for Triple-A Round Rock.Calhoun is hitting .391 (18-for-46) during the streak and .321 (43-for-134) since he was benched for a game in late May. He wasn't the happiest of campers when the Rangers sent him down to the minors coming out of spring training, but has been a model employee since his benching. Despite the obvious state of the major league club -- Texas is last in the AL West at 38-49, 17 games out of the wild card -- the Rangers resisted promoting Calhoun during the first half, publicly claiming he needed more time defensively. We suspect that will change in the second half. It shouldn't take too much effort to find an everyday spot for Calhoun. Moving Joey Gallo from left field to first base on an everyday basis, replacing Ronald Guzman, is all that's needed to create room.
Jun 14 2018Calhoun went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and RBI for Triple-A Round Rock in its 7-5 loss to Sacramento on Wednesday. With only six home runs in 268 plate appearances for Round Rock this season, Calhoun is well off the pace from the 32 long balls he logged across stops with three different clubs in 2017. The declining power production -- along with concerns about Calhoun's defense and professionalism -- have prevented the 23-year-old from surfacing with the Rangers this season, but it'll be tough for the team brass to justify keeping him on the farm much longer if he continues to terrorize Pacific Coast League pitching like he has so far in June. Calhoun has recorded two or more hits in five of his last six games and is slashing .333/.375/.578 with only three strikeouts in 48 plate appearances on the month.
May 29 2018Calhoun was in the starting lineup for Triple-A Round Rock Monday, a day after he was pulled from a game for failing to run hard on a grounder, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-4 with a double.Round Rock manager Jason Wood pulled Calhoun in the first inning, which led to speculation about an injury or a pending promotion to the majors. Once the Rangers confirmed it was neither of those, focus turned to a managerial decision. "I can only speak for our organization and identity," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "Play hard ... run down the line hard. It's the effort you're giving your teammates. Once the bat leaves your hands, you're working for your teammates. That's the identity you want to have in your organization." The Rangers are desperate for hitting and it seems logical they could let Calhoun work on his outfield defense while in the majors, but for whatever reason, they have no immediate plans to promote him.
May 28 2018Calhoun was removed from Sunday's game after grounding out in his first at-bat for Triple-A Round Rock, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers are confirming Calhoun's removal was not due to injury nor is there a pending promotion to the majors, which leaves his removal was a managerial decision. This has led to speculation that Calhoun did not run out the grounder. Texas' second-ranked prospect has had a trying season with the Express, after he somewhat surprisingly didn't make the Rangers' roster to start the season. He's slashing .265/.324/.353 with four home runs and 17 RBI through 50 games, well off last year's pace, and the team is not close to promoting him despite glaring needs for hitting at the major-league level. We hope to get more clarity on the decision to remove him from Sunday's game.
May 1 2018General manager Jon Daniels said that the team has no immediate plans to promote Calhoun from Triple-A, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Calhoun started the season in the minors due to questions about his defense in left field, and it appears things haven't improved enough to warrant a callup. Perhaps his early struggles at the plate are also contributing to this decision, as he currently holds just a .229 batting average, though a low .253 BABIP is likely to blame for that. Calhoun has gotten rave reviews for his bat, but it seems like he's still a bit away from getting to showcase that in the majors again.
Apr 15 2018Calhoun described being placed at Triple-A Round Rock to the start the season as a "slap in the face," per Gerard Gilberto of MiLB.com reports. When the Rangers optioned Calhoun to the minors in spring training, they said it was so he could get some work in left field to improve his defense. He was a second baseman while with the Dodgers, so sending him down to the minors to work on defense at a new position is a defensible move on the part of the Rangers' organization. Calhoun admitted to letting his frustrations get the better of him to start the season, when he went 4-for-21 (.190) with eight strikeouts in his first five games. Since then, he's appeared to turn a corner. After a three-hit effort Saturday, Calhoun is 6-for-18 with a homer, four RBI and just two strikeouts over his last four contests. With the Rangers likely headed toward a playoff-free year in 2018, the organization may want to let Calhoun hone his defense in the majors and acclimate to the big-league pitchers.
Apr 11 2018Calhoun went 1-for-4 with his first home run on the season for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. This is shaping up to be a rebuilding season for the Rangers, so it seems likely we'll see Calhoun head north to Arlington at some point. If the Rangers feel he still needs work on defense, it might be better to let him get that experience in the majors during a season in which the franchise can afford to give developmental time to its prospects.
Mar 13 2018Calhoun was sent to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. It's a surprising move, as Calhoun was considered to be in the lead for the Rangers' left field job. This could be simply a service-time issue, as the team can keep Calhoun for an extra year if he remains in the minors for about a month. There are legitimate concerns about his defense, though, so perhaps some extra work is warranted. Calhoun could do some damage with the bat once he returns to the big leagues, though the fact that his damage will be limited to five rather than six months in the big leagues certainly hurts his fantasy stock.
Mar 4 2018Calhoun started in left field Sunday and will probably start the next two games there, Dave Sessions of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-4 on Sunday and had a defensive miscue. This is year two of the Rangers' attempt to make an outfielder out of Calhoun, who is transitioning from second base. They've been working intensively on his fielding and will use the next three days to evaluate his progress on that side of the field. "We'll probably see him three days in a row here in the lineup in left field just to see the progress of seeing the ball off the bat, high sky, stands, things like that and how he maneuvers," said manager Jeff Banister. Calhoun has the inside track to win the battle for the left field job, but Banister doesn't want him to be a liability in the field.
Feb 24 2018Calhoun is the favorite to win the Rangers' left field job, MLB.com reports. While the 23-year-old may have the inside track, he'll have to prove he can handle the position defensively. The Rangers also have Drew Robinson, Ryan Rua, Rule 5 pick Carlos Tocci and non-roster invitee Destin Hood battling for the position. Calhoun certainly has the best bat among that quintet, but has only played 36 professional games at the position after moving there from second base last season. If Calhoun proves himself defensively, he'll almost certainly win the job, but if not, he'll have to fight for his plate appearances as an occasional outfielder and designated hitter.
Sep 30 2017Calhoun went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over the Athletics. The three hits were a career high for Calhoun, who plated Nomar Mazara on a fifth-inning single. Calhoun got off to a rocky start to his major-league career with a 1-for-16 mark over his first eight appearances, but he's settled in nicely while taking over for Carlos Gomez (ankle) the last three games in a starting outfield role. Calhoun has registered six hits in those contests, including his first MLB home run.
Sep 27 2017Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's loss to Houston. The 23-year-old rookie was just 1-for-16 and had started only four games since being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Sept. 12, so this was a nice showing for the promising youngster. Calhoun recorded 31 home runs, 93 RBI and a .300/.355/.572 slash line with Round Rock, and this late-season experience in the majors could work out in his favor next spring. With little to prove in the minors following his monster 2017 campaign, Calhoun should have a decent shot at beginning the 2018 season with the Rangers.
Sep 27 2017Calhoun will start in left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Astros. With the Rangers officially eliminated from playoff contention with the Twins' win Tuesday, Calhoun could be in store for starts in each of the team's final five games of the season as Texas turns its focus to finding at-bats for their younger options. Calhoun has recorded just one hit in his first 16 at-bats, but the impressive power he displayed in the minors earlier this season could make him a viable punt-play option in DFS contests the rest of the way.
Sep 22 2017Calhoun didn't appear in the Rangers' 4-2 win over the Mariners on Thursday.Calhoun has been glued to the bench for the past four games, as the returns of Adrian Beltre (hamstring), Carlos Gomez (ankle) and Nomar Mazara (quadriceps) from injuries have pushed the top prospect to the bench. Until the Rangers are officially eliminated from playoff contention, it's not expected that Calhoun will pick up consistent at-bats.
Sep 17 2017Calhoun is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.Calhoun has played in five games since being called up Sept. 12. In that time he's gone 1-for-13 (.077) and has struck out four times. He'll head to the bench Sunday as Nomar Mazara starts in left field.
Sep 13 2017Calhoun started in left field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to the Mariners. After being promoted from Triple-A Round Rock earlier Tuesday, Calhoun quickly made an impact in his MLB debut, delivering a run-scoring base hit in his first at-bat. The lefty slugger, who was the top piece the Rangers took back in the July 31 trade that sent Yu Darvish to the Dodgers, is expected to see at least semi-regular starts in the outfield at least until Carlos Gomez (ankle) returns to the lineup, which could make him a hot commodity on the waiver wire for fantasy owners looking for added power production. Calhoun torched the Pacific Coast League for 31 home runs, six triples and 27 doubles in 534 plate appearances prior to his callup.
Sep 12 2017Calhoun will get his first big-league start Tuesday against the Mariners, starting in left field and batting seventh.Calhoun joined the Rangers prior to Tuesday's game, and the team will waste no time getting the highly regarded prospect into action. The 22-year-old posted a respectable .300/.355/.572 slash line at Triple-A this season, and he boasts some impressive power for his size -- as evidenced by his 31 homers in 128 games in the Pacific Coast League. With Carlos Gomez sidelined with a high ankle sprain, Calhoun should see a fair share of at-bats until he's back in action.
Sep 12 2017The Rangers officially selected Calhoun's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Though general manager Jon Daniels indicated earlier in September that Calhoun wouldn't be included among the Rangers' callups during the final month of the season due to the lack of available at-bats, the organization reversed its stance after Carlos Gomez suffered a high-ankle sprain in Saturday's game against the Yankees that will keep the outfielder sidelined for an indefinite period of time. Rather than leaning on lower-upside bench bats like Ryan Rua, Will Middlebrooks and Drew Robinson to fill the void in the lineup, the Rangers will likely deploy Calhoun in a near-everyday role in the outfield or at second base, where he could occasionally spell Rougned Odor, who has been nursing a mild ankle sprain of late. The Rangers' top prize in the July 31 deal that sent Yu Darvish to the Dodgers, Calhoun was among the most feared hitters in the Pacific Coast League this season, amassing 31 home runs and 93 RBI while slashing .300/.355/.572 across 534 plate appearances. The 22-year-old boasts uncommon power for a player listed at just 5-foot-8, making him worthy of an immediate pickup in AL-only formats, and likely in most deeper mixed leagues, too, given the likelihood that he'll see regular at-bats until Gomez returns to action.
Sep 11 2017Calhoun will be called up to the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers are banged up, with Adrian Beltre and Carlos Gomez both out. Calhoun can play both second base and the outfield, and that's exactly the kind of versatility they need right now. Calhoun, acquired in the Yu Darvish trade, hammered 31 homers and had an OPS above .900 in 138 Triple-A games split between the Dodgers and Rangers systems.
Sep 4 2017Calhoun went 3-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBI for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. The 22-year-old sent the Round Rock fans home happy by smacking a walkoff grand slam to cap off another sterling day at the plate. It was the third multi-hit game in a row for Calhoun, who has slashed .300/.336/.564 with eight home runs in 28 games with Round Rock since coming over from the Dodgers in the Yu Darvish trade July 31. Though the Rangers declined to move Calhoun to the majors when rosters expanded in September, the second baseman/outfielder has established himself as one of the top prospects in the organization and could get a shot at competing for an everyday role with the big club next spring.
