Mar 24 2024The White Sox designated Toussaint for assignment Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint's removal from the 40-man roster opens up a spot for outfielder Kevin Pillar, who was re-signed Sunday to a one-year deal. Perhaps more significantly, the roster move also opens up a spot in the rotation for rookie Nick Nastrini, who now looks in position to replace Toussaint as the White Sox's No. 5 starter to begin the season. Toussaint made bats miss at a solid clip upon joining the White Sox last June as a waiver-wire pickup from the Guardians, but command remained a concern for the right-hander, which has been a familiar refrain throughout his career. It was especially true during spring training, as Toussaint had posted a 12.91 ERA, 2.74 WHIP and an ugly 2:11 K:BB across 7.2 frames during Cactus League play.
Jan 11 2024Toussaint agreed to a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the White Sox on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old righty would be a reliever for most clubs, but he could compete for a rotation spot this spring with Chicago. Toussaint had a 5.45 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 74.1 innings as a starter last season, but he has shown he can be more productive in the bullpen, which is where he should eventually end up.
Sep 29 2023Toussaint did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over four innings in a 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint was able to limit the Diamondbacks despite struggling with his command. Two of his walks came back-to-back with two outs in the fourth inning, and he's issued multiple walks in 10 of his last 11 starts. The outing also marked just the second time this month that Toussaint was unable to make it through five innings.
Sep 23 2023Toussaint came away with a no-decision Friday in the White Sox's 3-2 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander left the mound after 92 pitches (56 strikes) in line for his fifth win, but the Chicago bullpen once again squandered a lead -- the White Sox have 29 blown saves in 2023, tied with the Orioles for the fourth-highest total in the league. Toussaint had to settle for his second quality start of the season, both of which have come in September. He'll carry a 5.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 81:54 K:BB through 83 innings into his final start of the year, likely to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.
Sep 17 2023Toussaint (4-7) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-6 victory over the Twins, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A leadoff double by Edouard Julien led to a 1-0 Minnesota lead in the top of the first inning, but Toussaint shook it off and dominated the rest of the way, generating a whopping 32 called or swinging strikes on only 74 pitches. The 27-year-old right-hander has given up three runs or less while lasting at least five innings in four of his last five starts, but a one-inning, eight-run collapse against the Royals in the fifth outing has kept his ratios inflated. Toussaint will carry a 5.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into his next start, which is likely to come next weekend in Boston.
Sep 12 2023Toussaint did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks over one inning against Kansas City. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a brutal outing for Toussaint, who allowed four runs in the opening inning before allowing another four without recording an out in the second. However, he'd miraculously avoid a loss as the White Sox rallied to overcome a 9-0 deficit thanks to an eight-run sixth inning. Toussaint had been pitching well coming into Tuesday's outing, going 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA in his prior three outings. His ERA is now up to 5.65 on the season, with a 1.52 WHIP and 71:51 K:BB across 71.2 innings. Toussaint will look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week in Washington.
Sep 6 2023Toussaint (3-7) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint earned his first quality start of the year with his effort. He was able to limit the damage to a two-run home run by Nelson Velazquez in the fourth inning. Toussaint had allowed 10 runs over 14.1 innings across his previous three starts. For the season, he has a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 70:49 K:BB through 70.2 innings over 16 appearances (12 starts) between the White Sox and the Guardians. Toussaint is projected for a rematch with the Royals in Chicago next week.
Sep 2 2023Toussaint (2-7) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint blanked the Tigers over four frames before they tagged him with two runs in the fifth inning. He's been hit with a loss in four of his last six starts, posting an ugly 6.59 ERA during that stretch. For the year, Toussaint is sporting a 4.87 ERA and a 64:46 K:BB through 64.2 innings. He's currently lined up to start in Kansas City next week.
Aug 26 2023Toussaint (2-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings in a 6-2 victory over the Athletics. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After entering Saturday's contest with an 8.84 ERA and a 25:18 K:BB in August (18.1 innings), Toussaint held the A's scoreless across five frames. However, his control issues persisted, as he handed out three or more walks for a fifth consecutive appearance. Toussaint will have an opportunity to build on Saturday's strong performance, with the White Sox kicking off September with series against the Tigers, Royals and Tigers again.
Aug 21 2023Toussaint (1-6) allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks over four-plus innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint was tagged with five runs in the first inning and then gave up back-to-back homers without recording an out in the fifth. He's struggled horribly with his command this month, posting a 25:18 K:BB with an 8.84 ERA through 18.1 frames. His season ERA has spiked to 5.30 across 54.1 innings. Toussaint is currently projected to face the Athletics at home this weekend.
Aug 16 2023Toussaint allowed three earned runs on three hits and five walks while striking out four across four innings Tuesday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint was plagued by both home runs -- he surrendered a pair -- and walks en route to his shortest start since July 2. In four starts since becoming a regular in the rotation, he's maintained a 5.12 ERA to go along with a 26:15 K:BB. Toussaint has a 14.3 percent career walk rate across 220.2 frames, so his chances to significantly improve his control in the final several weeks of the current campaign appear slim.
Aug 8 2023Toussaint (1-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks over five innings in a 7-1 loss to the Yankees. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint tallied nine punchouts for a second consecutive start Tuesday but struggled to get through the Yankees order, dishing out five free passes. He has now walked four or more batters in six of 11 outings in 2023 and owns a poor 47:32 K:BB through 46.1 innings. Toussaint is tentatively scheduled for another tasty strikeout matchup next time out against the Cubs, who strike out the eighth most in MLB.
Aug 4 2023Toussaint (1-4) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 5.1 innings against Texas. He struck out nine. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint allowed runs in the second, third and fourth innings, with the latter two coming off home runs from Mitch Garver and Marcus Semien. The right-hander was then relieved by Aaron Bummer after surrendering a leadoff walk in the sixth, but not before recording a season-high nine strikeouts on the afternoon. Toussaint had allowed just two home runs all season coming in, while Thursday's outing marked the third time in his last four starts he's issued four walks.
Jul 28 2023Toussaint (1-3) earned the win Friday, allowing three hits and one walk over five scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over the Guardians. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox traded Lucas Giolito to the Angels on Wednesday, creating an opening in the starting rotation. Toussaint got another chance to step in and made his case for a more permanent spot, inducing 14 swinging strikes on 83 pitches en route to his first win of the season. Once a highly regarded prospect, the right-hander has bounced around in recent years, failing to make the most of his big-league opportunities to date. He should be considered a highly volatile option given his command and control issues.
Jul 27 2023White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Toussaint will likely start Friday against the Guardians, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That would have been Lucas Giolito's turn in the rotation, but he was traded to the Angels on Wednesday. Toussaint has registered a decent 4.06 ERA in 31 major-league innings this season, but command remains an issue for the 27-year-old former top prospect. He made a 15-pitch appearance in relief in Wednesday's 10-7 loss to the Cubs, but he isn't expected to face any limitations come Friday.
Jul 20 2023Toussaint (0-3) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up five runs on four hits and four walks over six innings as the White Sox were downed 5-1 by the Mets. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was able to give Chicago some length, hanging around for 107 pitches in his longest outing of the season, but he threw only 57 strikes. Toussaint has a 4.41 ERA and 12:9 K:BB in 16.1 innings while making three straight starts for the White Sox, but with Mike Clevinger (biceps) still working his way up to a rehab assignment, he'll likely continue to plug a hole in the rotation at least through the end of July.
Jul 16 2023Toussaint is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Mets at Citi Field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint will open the White Sox's post-All-Star-break schedule as the team's No. 5 starter, though it's possible that he'll be deployed in a piggyback capacity with Jesse Scholtens if Scholtens isn't need in relief in Sunday's series finale in Atlanta or in Tuesday's series opener with the Mets. Since joining the White Sox in late June, Toussaint has compiled a 3.10 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB across 20.1 innings.
Jul 8 2023Toussaint (0-2) took the loss Saturday as the White Sox fell 3-0 to the Cardinals, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander kept Chicago in the game, tossing 53 of 81 pitches for strikes before exiting, but the team's hitters couldn't solve Miles Mikolas and the St. Louis bullpen. Toussaint could lose his rotation spot to Michael Kopech (shoulder) immediately after the All-Star break, but in four appearances (two starts) for the White Sox he's posted a respectable 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB over 15 innings.
Jul 7 2023Toussaint is expected to start for the White Sox on Saturday against the Cardinals, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint struggled with his command in a spot start last Sunday at Oakland and lasted only 3.2 innings, but he'll try to give the White Sox some coverage in their second-to-last game before the All-Star break. The 27-year-old former top prospect should not be a fantasy consideration.
Jul 2 2023Toussaint allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over 3.2 innings in Sunday's win over the Athletics. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint gave up a pair of runs in the third inning and needed 85 pitches to record 11 outs. He's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his four MLB appearances this season but his ERA sits at 3.95 because he's yet to complete more than four innings in any outing. Toussaint will likely move back into a long-relief role for the time being.
Jun 20 2023The White Sox claimed Toussaint off waivers from the Guardians on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being DFA'd by Cleveland on Saturday, Toussaint will remain in the AL Central and provide depth to the White Sox's bullpen. Toussaint holds a 4.06 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in Triple-A this season and made his lone MLB appearance Friday, allowing two earned runs over 3.2 frames.
Jun 17 2023Toussaint was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Saturday, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealerreports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint allowed two runs over 3.2 innings in a start Friday against the Diamondbacks where he took the loss. He's removed from the active and 40-man roster to clear space for Daniel Norris with Norris having his contract selected by the Guardians in the corresponding transaction.
Jun 16 2023Toussaint (0-1) took the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint threw 43 of 82 pitches for strikes in his first major-league start of the campaign. He's primarily worked as a multi-inning reliever with Triple-A Columbus, where he has a 4.06 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 48:23 K:BB over 37.2 innings. The lofty walk rate appears to have followed him to the majors. Toussaint was a fill-in for Triston McKenzie (elbow) in this game, but it's unclear what the Guardians might do if that spot in their rotation remains vacant. In addition to Toussaint, Xzavion Curry -- who allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over 1.2 innings Friday -- and Triple-A pitchers like Cody Morris or Gavin Williams could be options to start if McKenzie ends up on the injured list. That spot in the rotation is next due up for a home start versus the Athletics next week.
Jan 4 2023Toussaint signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint will join the Guardians ahead of the 2023 campaign and his minor-league deal includes a big-league spring training invite, giving him a shot to prove himself with his new team. The right-hander posted a 4.62 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 25.1 innings in eight appearances, including two starts, with the Angels last season. After a promising start to his career in 2018 with Atlanta, Toussaint has struggled with consistency over the past few seasons, something he'll look to correct with Cleveland, a franchise that just seems to pump out quality pitching every year.
Sep 9 2022Toussaint was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint will be sent down to the minors as a corresponding move to the return of Michael Lorenzen from the injured list. The 26-year-old righty holds a 4.62 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the season and could make a return to the big leagues if the Angels' pitching depth takes a hit before the end of the season.
Aug 24 2022Toussaint retired two batters and was charged with two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 11-1 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Angels interim manager Phil Nevin never made a formal announcement that Toussaint was removed from the rotation, it became evident that the right-hander would head to the bullpen when Mike Mayers was named the starter for Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay. Toussaint's demotion from the starting role came after he was blitzed for four earned runs on three hits and four walks over 2.2 innings his last time out Aug. 17 against the Mariners.
Aug 18 2022Toussaint (1-1) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out three and walking four over 2.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint tossed 34 of 62 pitches for strikes across 2.2 frames allowing seven baserunners and four earned runs. After allowing four runs in his previous 13.1 innings, this was a step in the wrong direction for the 26-year-old righty, who is attempting to lock down his spot in the rotation. The rough outing ballooned his ERA from 2.70 to 4.50.
Aug 17 2022Toussaint is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Unsurprisingly, Toussaint will pick up a second straight turn through the rotation after he dazzled in his outing Aug. 10 in Oakland, when he struck out six over five scoreless innings while taking a no-decision. Though Toussaint has shown the ability to make bats miss over parts of five seasons in the majors, a bloated 13.3 percent career walk rate has prevented him from finding much sustained success as a starter.
Aug 10 2022Toussaint allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six across five scoreless innings Wednesday against the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint has thrown at least four innings in each of his last two outings, but Wednesday marked his first official start. He took advantage of the opportunity, holding the Athletics to only two singles and two walks while generating nine swinging strikes on 71 total pitches. Toussaint has walked nine batters across 13.1 innings in the big leagues this season, but he has otherwise made a strong case to stick in the Angels' rotation moving forward.
Aug 5 2022Toussaint pitched in long relief during Thursday's 8-7 loss to the Athletics, covering 4.1 innings and striking out six while allowing two earned runs on two hits and five walks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, the Angels listed Toussaint as their starting pitcher for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in Seattle, but that's likely off the table after he made a 85-pitch relief appearance two days before the scheduled start. The impromptu outing came about after starter Janson Junk lasted just 2.1 innings Thursday before departing, prompting the Angels to summon Toussaint out of the bullpen to provide length.
Aug 4 2022Toussaint is expected to start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint made his debut for the Angels last weekend and allowed two runs across four innings of long relief, and he'll make a spot start in Saturday's twin bill. Another decent showing could keep the 26-year-old in the mix for future starts after the departure of Noah Syndergaard at the trade deadline.
Jul 30 2022Toussaint (1-0) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings of relief, earning the win Saturday over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: If Saturday's game was an audition for one spot in the rotation, Toussaint fared better than starter Chase Silseth. Toussaint's lone mistake was a two-run home run to Meibrys Viloria in the sixth inning, though the Angels rallied ahead with a five-run eighth to put the 26-year-old righty in line for the win. Toussaint made 15 of his 18 major-league appearances over the last two years as a starter, though he's yet to really establish himself. The Angels have a high number of pitchers stretched out to a starter's workload, but few have really seized the chance to hold down a spot at the back end of the team's six-man rotation. Until stated otherwise, Toussaint can be considered a multi-inning reliever with the potential to fill in as a spot starter.
Jul 3 2022Toussaint was traded from Atlanta to the Angels in exchange for cash considerations Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Saturday, but he'll quickly find a spot on the Angels' 40-man roster. The right-hander was once a prized prospect but will need to prove himself at Triple-A Salt Lake after he posted a 6.26 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 41.2 innings over 13 appearances (eight starts) in the minors to begin the year.
Jul 2 2022Atlanta designated Toussaint for assignment Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint was once a big-time prospect, and he showed flashes in the big leagues as recently as last season, but the right-hander has struggled to the tune of a 6.26 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 41.2 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett this season. The Atlanta front office lost patience, but Toussaint is still just 26 years old, so he may be appealing to another team as a reclamation project.
Apr 21 2022Toussaint was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint spent just two days on the big-league roster and didn't get into a game. He'll head back to Triple-A to await his next chance, a level where he's struck out 16 batters in 8.2 innings across a pair of starts.
Apr 19 2022Atlanta recalled Toussaint from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint and Dylan Lee will both join Atlanta in Los Angeles for the second game of the team's series with the Dodgers, giving the bullpen a fresh pair of arms after starter Huascar Ynoa lasted just 3.2 innings in Monday's 7-4 loss. Ynoa was demoted to Gwinnett in a corresponding move, but Toussaint isn't expected to get a look in the rotation in his place. Instead, Atlanta will likely condense from a six-man rotation to a five-man setup, with Kyle Wright and Bryce Elder occupying the back-end spots.
Mar 23 2022Atlanta optioned Toussaint to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Jeff Schultz of The Athletic, manager Brian Snitker said that Atlanta didn't have enough innings available for Toussaint at the big-league level, so the right-hander will continue to stay stretched out at Gwinnett to begin the season. He'll likely be one of Atlanta's top internal candidates to step into the MLB rotation should the club lose a starter to injury.
Sep 26 2021Toussaint (personal) was activated from the bereavement list Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint spent the past few days on the bereavement list following the death of his father, and he'll now make his way to the minors. The 25-year-old has made 10 starts for Atlanta this season but was shifted to the bullpen just before being placed on the bereavement list.
Sep 22 2021Toussaint was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint has recently shifted to a bullpen role, and he'll now miss between three and seven games following his placement on the bereavement list due to the recent passing of his father. The team will likely have another bullpen game against the Padres on Sunday, when the fifth spot in Atlanta's rotation comes up again.
Sep 21 2021Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Toussaint will be available out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Jesse Chavez in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Snitker didn't explicitly say that Toussaint lost his rotation spot, but that appears to be the implication, given that he hasn't pitched since being tagged for four runs on five hits and three walks in four innings in his last start Sept. 14 versus the Rockies. Toussaint won't necessarily work as a primary pitcher behind Chavez either, as Snitker termed Tuesday's contest as a bullpen day since Atlanta will have its full complement of relievers available. Atlanta will have a need for a fifth starter again Sunday in San Diego, but the early expectation is that the team will get by with another bullpen game rather than reinserting Toussaint into the rotation.
Sep 15 2021Toussaint (3-3) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings in a loss to the Rockies on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint pitched a clean first but had some trouble in the second. He started off the inning by allowing a solo home run to Trevor Story and allowed one more run on a walk and a pair of base hits. The 25-year-old righty later allowed another homer, this time a two-run blast by Brendan Rodgers to put the Rockies up 4-2 in the fifth. Toussaint's day ended there and Atlanta was unable to mount the comeback. The former first-round pick in 2014 hasn't pitched more than four innings in either of his last three starts and has given up exactly four earned runs in two of those three outings. He now sits at a 4.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 48:22 K:BB over 50 innings this year. He's in line for a tough road matchup against the Giants at the end of the week.
Sep 8 2021Toussaint allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks in three innings of a no-decision against Washington on Wednesday. He also hit a batter and had three strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That's two straight starts in which Toussaint has lasted only three innings. His four walks Wednesday were a season high, and he managed to throw just 29 of his 62 pitches for strikes. Toussaint was lifted in the fourth inning after giving up a Josh Bell homer and a pair of walks without recording an out. The 25-year-old Toussaint will try to get back on track next week with an appealing home matchup against the Rockies.
Sep 3 2021Toussaint didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Rockies after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits across three innings. He didn't strike out or walk anyone and also hit a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint got the chance to return to the rotation but this outing wasn't a positive one by any means, as the five runs he allowed represent his second-worst mark of the season and also tossed one of his shortest outings of the campaign. As a result, his ERA went up from 3.60 to 4.19 following this appearance.
Sep 1 2021Toussaint will start Thursday's series opener at Colorado, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Brian Snitker indicated earlier in the week Toussaint may rejoin the rotation in the coming days, and he'll do so Thursday against the Rockies. The right-hander has pitched well since joining the big-league club after the All-Star break with a 3.60 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across 40 innings.
Aug 31 2021Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Toussaint could re-enter the rotation later this week to make a start during the team's four-game series in Colorado that begins Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Ian Anderson returned from the injured Sunday to give Atlanta five healthy starters, Toussaint made an appearance out of the bullpen in that contest, tossing a scoreless inning. While Snitker has yet to formally commit to Toussaint rejoining the rotation, those odds appeared to increase after Monday's loss to the Dodgers, when the struggling Drew Smyly served up four home runs. Even if Toussaint doesn't displace Smyly as the team's fifth starter, his solid work of late has left Snitker to contemplate expanding the rotation to six men. Before his cameo out of the bullpen last weekend, Toussaint had submitted a 2.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB in 22 innings over his most recent four starts.
Aug 22 2021Toussaint (3-2) allowed a run on five hits and three walks while striking out five in 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Orioles on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Toussaint gave up seven runs in his final start in July, he's been much more effective across four outings in August. He's lasted at least five innings in each of his last four starts and has picked up back-to-back wins. Since the start of August, the 25-year-old has recorded a 2.86 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 22 innings. Since Ian Anderson (shoulder) will likely return next weekend, it's not yet clear whether Toussaint will remain in the rotation.
Aug 17 2021Toussaint (2-2) picked up the win in Monday's 12-2 rout of the Marlins, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both runs came on early solo shots by Jazz Chisholm and Isan Diaz, but Toussaint steadied the ship before Atlanta seized control of the game with a seven-run fourth inning. The quality start was the third in six outings for the right-hander since he joined the rotation after the All-Star break, and Toussaint will carry a 4.01 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB through 33.2 innings into his next start.
Aug 12 2021Toussaint hurled five innings against Cincinnati on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander breezed through five scoreless frames, but he struggled in the sixth, giving up a two-run homer to Joey Votto and exiting the contest when Mike Moustakas followed with a single. Though he was in line to win upon his departure, the Reds tallied three runs between the eighth and ninth innings to send the game into extra frames and remove Toussaint from a decision. Toussaint's role in the rotation moving forward is uncertain given the imminent return of Huascar Ynoa (hand), though the Braves could opt to go to a six-man rotation to allow both hurlers to keep a starting role.
Aug 5 2021Toussaint got a no-decision in Thursday's 8-4 win over St. Louis, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his fourth start of the season, Toussaint was adequate in limiting St. Louis' bats until Atlanta broke out with a six-run eighth. The 25-year-old allowed two runs on four base runners in the third and another run came across in the sixth on a passed ball. It was a nice rebound from a poor outing against Milwaukee last time out and Toussaint has now permitted two runs or fewer in three of four starts.
Jul 30 2021Toussaint (1-2) allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts across 3.1 innings, taking the loss versus Milwaukee on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was spotted a four-run lead after one inning, but he gave it all back in the third and continued to struggle in the fourth before Sean Newcomb relieved him. Toussaint had pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but Friday's outing was a disaster. He's yielded nine runs in 17 innings with a 20:4 K:BB, and he tentatively lines up to face St. Louis on the road next week.
Jul 25 2021Toussaint (1-1) allowed one run on five hits and no walks while striking out 10 in seven innings to take the loss against the Phillies on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint recorded double-digit strikeouts for the first time in his career Sunday, and he's allowed just one run in 13.2 innings across his first two starts in 2021. However, Atlanta struggled to generate much offensive production in the series finale, and the right-hander was forced to settle for the loss. Toussaint had slightly better command in Sunday's appearance, as he threw 64 of his 90 pitches for strikes. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Brewers on Friday.
Jul 23 2021Toussaint will start Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta is shorthanded on healthy rotation options, and Toussaint fared well in his 2021 debut Tuesday against San Diego (one run allowed on three hits and two walks over 6.2 innings), so it comes as little surprise that he'll receive his second start of the week. Though he secured a win Tuesday, Toussaint will likely need to show improved efficiency if he's to find continued success. He pumped in only 48 of his 79 pitches against San Diego for strikes.
Jul 21 2021Toussaint (1-0) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up one run on three hits and two walks over 6.2 innings in a 2-1 victory over the Padres. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matched up against San Diego ace Yu Darvish, Toussaint rose to the occasion and tossed 48 of 79 pitches for strikes in his first big-league appearance of the year. The 25-year-old has flashed impressive upside in the past but has never been able to find consistent success, making him a risky fantasy option this weekend in Philadelphia despite this performance.
Jul 20 2021Toussaint remains on track to start Tuesday's game against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Monday's series opener was postponed due to inclement weather, Toussaint looked to be at risk of losing out on a two-start week if Atlanta had elected to move him back in the pitching schedule from Tuesday to Wednesday. Rather than pushing Toussaint back to start Wednesday's doubleheader along with Charlie Morton, Atlanta will turn to Kyle Muller -- who had been scheduled to start Monday -- to take the hill for Game 1 of the twin bill. After Tuesday's outing, Toussaint will tentatively line up for his second turn of the week Sunday in Philadelphia.
Jul 18 2021Toussaint is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Padres, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint will get a trial as Atlanta's new No. 5 starter after Ian Anderson (shoulder) was shut down following his final outing before the All-Star break. Over various stints in the big leagues over the past three seasons, Toussaint has made bats miss (24.3 percent strikeout rate), but a 5.97 ERA in 95 career innings has muted most of his fantasy impact. Toussaint has been on the 60-day injured list for most of the season while recovering from a shoulder strain suffered in spring training, but he's fully built up for starting duty after recently wrapping up an extended rehab assignment. Over his final two outings at Triple-A earlier this month, Toussaint tossed six innings in both starts and struck out 18 between those games.
Jul 16 2021Toussaint (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander landed on the 60-day IL in late March with a strained shoulder but is primed for his season debut after making six rehab appearances in the minors over the past month. Toussaint started and covered six frames in his last two rehab outings, so he's a logical candidate to fill the rotation spot of Ian Anderson, who landed on the shelf with shoulder inflammation in a corresponding move.
Jun 20 2021Toussaint (shoulder) shifted his rehab assignment to Double-A Mississippi on Sunday, covering 3.2 innings while giving up two runs on one hit and two walks and striking out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander, who turned 25 years old Sunday, was making his second rehab appearance after having previously tossed three innings for High-A Rome on Tuesday. Toussaint built his pitch count up to 53 on Sunday, but Atlanta will likely want to see him reach the 75-to-100 range before he's viewed as a viable option for the big-league rotation. Atlanta may not have a spot on the active roster available for Toussaint once he's deemed ready to return from the 60-day injured list, so he could end up filling a starting role at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Mar 27 2021Toussaint was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder strain Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint had made four Grapefruit League appearances and posted a 2.00 ERA and 0.78 WHIP in nine innings during that time. However, he's apparently dealing with a shoulder injury and will be forced to miss extended time to begin the regular season. It's not yet clear when Toussaint will be able to make his 2021 debut.
Sep 15 2020Toussaint was optioned to Atlanta's alternate training site following Monday's game. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint allowed eight runs (five earned) while recording just eight outs in his start against the Orioles on Monday. He now owns an 8.88 ERA in 24.1 innings on the year and a 5.97 ERA in 95 career big-league innings. Jasseel De La Cruz was recalled in a corresponding move.
Sep 14 2020Toussaint (0-2) allowed eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Monday, striking out two batters and taking the loss against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint allowed a run in the first inning before the Orioles began teeing off in the third inning. After allowing five runs through 2.2 innings, he left the game with the bases loaded and was charged with three more runs that scored on Luke Jackson. The 24-year-old's season ERA is up to 8.88 in 24.1 innings. With Cole Hamels (triceps) returning this week, Toussaint will likely move to a bullpen role.
Sep 12 2020Toussaint will start Monday's game against the Orioles, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint has been working at the alternate training site for nearly three weeks, but he'll return to the active roster for the series opener in Baltimore on Monday. Toussaint's start will allow Cole Hamels (triceps) and Max Fried (back) to get a few extra days of rest before potentially returning to the mound. Toussaint has been quite inconsistent this season and carries a 7.89 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 21.2 innings during six appearances (four starts).
Aug 25 2020Toussaint was optioned to Atlanta's alternate training site Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ian Anderson's contract was purchased in a corresponding move. Inconsistency has plagued Toussaint at the big-league level, as he had a splendid nine-strikeout outing against the Blue Jays earlier this year, but followed that up by walking nine batters over his next 8.1 innings (three appearances). He could rejoin the big-league club when it needs a fresh bullpen arm later this summer.
Aug 24 2020Toussaint came on in relief in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies, giving up a run on two hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Braves headed into the weekend with just three healthy rotation members -- including two in Josh Tomlin and Robbie Erlin who were recently promoted from the bullpen -- manager Brian Snitker decided he had seen enough from Toussaint as a starter. Over his four starts, Toussaint gave up 13 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits and 10 walks over 17.2 innings, prompting the Braves to move him back to a relief role. The Braves will have to settle on a new replacement in the rotation for Toussaint on Tuesday against the Yankees, with Mark Bowman of MLB.com speculating that 22-year-old prospect Ian Anderson could get the chance to make his MLB debut.
Aug 19 2020Toussaint won't start during the upcoming weekend series against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported earlier in the day that the 24-year-old would be taking the mound for Sunday's series finale, but Josh Tomlin will be starting instead. The Braves have two scheduled off days next week, so it's possible Toussaint is shifted to the bullpen until Atlanta requires the full complements of its starting rotation.
Aug 18 2020Toussaint didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-6 win over the Nationals, giving up four runs on two hits and six walks over three innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His control issues were exacerbated by the fact that both hits he gave up left the yard, but the damage could have been a lot worse, and Toussaint was taken off the hook for the loss by a ninth-inning rally. The erratic right-hander now has a 7.97 ERA and 27:11 K:BB through 20.1 innings, and he'll try to turn things around in his next outing Saturday, at home against the Phillies.
Aug 11 2020Toussaint (0-1) was charged with the loss Tuesday against the Yankees after allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk over four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old surrendered a three-run homer to Luke Voit in the opening frame, and he gave up another three spot during the third inning to doom his start. Toussaint will carry a 7.27 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up for Sunday in Miami.
Aug 6 2020Toussaint took a no-decision during Thursday's win over the Blue Jays, striking out nine while surrendering three runs on four hits across 6.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his second start of the season, Tourssaint reached career highs in both innings pitched (6.2) and strikeouts (nine). The 24-year-old gave up a solo home run to Bo Bichette in the fourth frame and did not issue any walks. Despite a shaky first appearance in relief this season during which he was roughed up for six runs over 2.2 innings, Toussaint has been solid in both starts so far. Next up, he'll head to New York for a tough matchup against the Yankees.
Aug 1 2020Toussaint didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 7-1 win over the Mets, allowing three hits and three walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his first start of the season, Toussaint's control came and went -- he threw 45 of 74 pitches for strikes -- and he wasn't efficient enough to last the five innings necessary to qualify for a win, but he otherwise gave Atlanta everything it could have hoped for. There are other candidates for a rotation spot in the organization if he falters, but Toussaint pitched well enough to hold onto the job for now. He'll next take the mound Thursday in a home start against the Blue Jays.
Jul 31 2020Toussaint will start Saturday against the Mets, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves had a rotation spot open after designating Mike Foltynewicz for assignment following his poor season debut Monday. Whether Toussaint remains in the rotation for good or simply gets the first crack at the job is not yet clear. The 24-year-old was considered a fairly interesting prospect, combining promising stuff with shaky control, but he's yet to put things together through 73.1 big-league innings, the majority of which have come out of the bullpen. His 24.7 percent strikeout rate has thus far been more than cancelled out by his 14.3 walk rate, leading to a 5.52 ERA.
Jul 27 2020Toussaint gave up six runs on five hits and a walk over 2.2 innings of relief during Monday's 14-5 loss to the Rays. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the right-hander did show flashes of dominance and fired 42 of his 67 pitches for strikes, Toussaint was far too hittable when he was over the plate, serving up a homer to Hunter Relfroe along with a pair of doubles to Brandon Lowe. Atlanta has a sudden opening in its rotation after Mike Foltynewicz was abruptly designated for assignment, but Toussaint's performance in relief of Folty on Monday doesn't suggest he's ready to fill it.
Jul 17 2020Toussaint (illness) was cleared to return to the field Friday, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint hadn't been able to report to camp after testing positive for COVID-19. He's since cleared MLB protocol by testing negative twice and is now back on the field. It's unclear whether or not the lost time will prevent him from playing a role early in the season, though he doesn't project as a key member of the Braves' staff after struggling to a 5.62 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP in 41.2 innings last season.
Jul 11 2020Toussaint (illness) has been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves confirmed July 4 that Toussaint tested positive for COVID-19, and he'll be on the COVID-19 injured list as a result. The 24-year-old is reportedly asymptomatic, but under MLB protocol, he'll need to test negative twice before he's allowed to rejoin the team. Toussaint was already a bit of a longshot to crack the Opening Day roster, but it's unclear whether he'll be physically ready to play by the start of the regular season.
Jul 4 2020Manager Brian Snitker said Saturday that Toussaint tested positive for COVID-19, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint is one of four members of the Braves to test positive for COVID-19. While the 24-year-old is reportedly asymptomatic, he'll need to clear the league protocol prior to rejoining the team.
Apr 30 2020Toussaint could see consistent usage as part of the Atlanta staff this season if rosters are expanded beyond 26 players, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old right-hander failed to win a rotation spot in camp and had already been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett when play was suspended, but Toussaint would be one of the top candidates to handle a long relief or sixth starter role for the team, along with Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson. Toussaint has strikeout upside, but his control and command remain an issue and he has a 77:47 K:BB in 70.2 career big-league innings. He did at least appear to take a small step forward on that front with an 8:3 K:BB in 8.2 Grapefruit League frames this spring.
Mar 20 2020Toussaint was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was competing for a spot in Atlanta's starting rotation but once the season resumes, he'll begin 2020 in the minors. Toussaint appeared in 24 games (one start) for the Braves last season and had a 5.62 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 13.1 percent walk rate over 41.2 innings
Mar 3 2020Toussaint fired 2.2 no-hit innings of relief in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies, giving up one run on two walks while striking out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he entered the contest out of the bullpen, Toussaint is building up his arm for starting duty and remains firmly in the mix for one of the two available spots in the Braves' Opening Day rotation. Toussaint might have bolstered his bid for the rotation with Monday's strong showing, with Brian Snitker telling David O'Brien of The Athletic afterward that he's been satisfied with how the right-hander has cleaned up his delivery over the offseason. If Toussaint can continue to limit the free passes in his subsequent spring outings, it could be enough to put him ahead of Sean Newcomb, Kyle Wright, Bryse Wilson and non-roster invitee Felix Hernandez in the battle for the two starting spots.
Sep 13 2019Toussaint was recalled by the Braves on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Toussaint failed to impress in 41.2 innings for the Braves this season, posting a 5.62 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. His 22.7 percent strikeout rate almost exactly matches the league average (22.8 percent), while his 13.1 percent walk rate is quite poor. He'll seemingly be limited to relief duty down the stretch.

Jul 4 2018Toussaint was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.Toussaint had a good start to the season, posting a 2.93 ERA in 16 starts for Double-A Mississippi. While his 9.9 percent walk rate was slightly high, his 29.3 percent strikeout rate was the highest he's posted at any stop thus far in his professional career. He'll need to continue his strong performances at the Triple-A level in order to stand out from a highly-touted crop of young Braves pitchers and push for a rotation spot next season.
