Jun 30 2025O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has now been absent from the lineup seven of the last eight times the Orioles have faced a traditional left-handed starter, as he now appears firmly on the long side of a platoon. Coby Mayo will start at first base and Gary Sanchez will be the designated hitter in Monday's series opener.
Jun 23 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed-hitting O'Hearn hasn't been used as a strict strong-side platoon player this season, but he'll take a seat for the series opener versus Texas while the Rangers send a lefty (Patrick Corbin) to the hill. Coby Mayo will enter the lineup in place of O'Hearn as the Orioles' starting first baseman.
Jun 20 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn missed a game last weekend due to a left ankle injury, but he's started four straight contests since, going 2-for-13 (.154) at the plate. He'll yield to Coby Mayo at first base while Adley Rutschman plays DH.
Jun 16 2025O'Hearn (ankle) will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn missed the previous two contests after injuring his left ankle this past Friday, but he's ready to roll for Monday's series opener. Coby Mayo will retreat to the bench after starting the last two games at first base in O'Hearn's place.
Jun 15 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels, but he said his sore left ankle is feeling better and he expects to be ready to start in Monday's series opener versus the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn added that he anticipates being available off the bench Sunday, after suffering an ankle injury Friday. Coby Mayo will pick up a second straight start at first base but will move back into a reserve role once O'Hearn is cleared to rejoin the lineup.
Jun 14 2025O'Hearn is no longer in Saturday's starting lineup versus the Angels due to left ankle discomfort, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was clipped on his left ankle while taking a throw at first base Friday, and he has some discomfort as a result. It's not yet clear if the infielder/outfielder will be available off the bench or if his absence will extend beyond one game. O'Hearn was originally slated to start in right field Saturday, but Ramon Laureano will shift there from left field instead, while Dylan Carlson is now in the starting lineup in left.
Jun 13 2025O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 2-0 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's 405-foot homer in the second inning proved to be the decisive blow in the Orioles' victory. It was a much-needed effort for the 31-year-old, who entered Friday mired in a 5-for-31 slump without an extra-base hit over nine games in June. On the season, he's slashing .310/.391/.502 with 10 homers, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored and three steals across 233 plate appearances.
Jun 12 2025O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed-hitting O'Hearn doesn't always sit against left-handed pitching, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Tigers send tough southpaw Tarik Skuball to the rubber. Jackson Holliday is getting a start in the designated hitter spot.
Jun 8 2025O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The absence ends a run of 24 straight starts for O'Hearn, who batted .330 (30-for-91) with four doubles, two homers, two steals, 10 RBI and 11 runs during that stretch. The 31-year-old is seeing more playing time against lefties this year compared to previous seasons, but his solid .263 average versus southpaws is undercut a bit by a .316 slugging percentage. Still, O'Hearn has been incredibly productive overall in 2025 with nine homers and a .316/.397/.500 slash line through 54 games.
May 25 2025O'Hearn went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn extended Baltimore's lead to 3-0 with a solo shot off Greg Weissert in the sixth inning, his eighth homer of the year and his first in 18 games. Despite the power drought, O'Hearn has certainly been swinging the bat well -- he's now 12-for-21 (.571) in his last five contests. The 31-year-old O'Hearn is slashing an impressive .329/.419/.537 through 172 plate appearances this season with 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
May 11 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he was included in the lineup the last time the Orioles faced a lefty starter (Kris Bubic) on May 3, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench Sunday while southpaw Tyler Anderson takes the hill for the Angels. O'Hearn's absence will allow the Orioles to give Adley Rutschman a day off from catching and deploy him as their designated hitter.
May 2 2025O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn put the Orioles on the board in the seventh inning, when he took Michael Wacha deep to center field for a two-run moon shot. It was O'Hearn's sixth home run of the season, three of which have come over his last five games. He's started the season slashing .303/.384/.579 with one stolen base, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI in 86 plate appearances.
Apr 17 2025O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn put the Orioles up by two runs in the third inning, when he took the first pitch he saw from Tanner Bibee deep to center field for a 393-foot, three-run home run. It was O'Hearn's third homer of the season, two of which have come in his last two games. He's opened the season slashing .326/.404/.587 with six walks, eight runs scored, three home runs and five RBI across 52 plate appearances.
Apr 15 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has gone 1-for-10 with two walks, a stolen base and a run over the past three games and will sit Tuesday as lefty Logan Allen takes the mound for Cleveland. Adley Rutschman is receiving a turn at designated hitter while Gary Sanchez starts behind the plate.
Apr 7 2025O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double Monday in a 5-1 victory versus Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn helped the Orioles get off to a positive start with a solo shot to right field in the first inning. The long ball was his first of the campaign, though he also has three doubles among his eight hits. O'Hearn has been in and out of the Orioles' lineup, but he's hit well when given the chance, slashing .308/.379/.538 through 29 plate appearances.
Apr 6 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Jackson Holliday, Cedric Mullins and Heston Kjerstad as the Orioles look for platoon advantages against Royals southpaw Kris Bubic.
Apr 5 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and a run scored over his last two games, O'Hearn will begin Saturday's contest on the bench. His absence opens up a spot in the lineup for Ramon Urias to start at third base and bat seventh.
Apr 2 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed-hitting O'Hearn will take a seat as Boston sends southpaw ace Garrett Crochet to the bump. Adley Rutschman will get a start at designated hitter as Gary Sanchez starts at catcher, batting sixth.
Mar 31 2025O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles are facing a left-handed starter (Sean Newcomb) for the first time this season, so the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench in the series opener. Heston Kjerstad will serve as the Orioles' designated hitter in place of O'Hearn, who went 6-for-15 with two doubles, two walks and two runs in the team's season-opening four-game series in Toronto.
Mar 29 2025O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Saturday's 9-5 win over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After hitting a leadoff double in the fourth inning, O'Hearn eventually crossed the plate to score on a Gary Sanchez sacrifice fly. The veteran slugger has gone 4-for-13 through three games thus far this season, and O'Hearn will need to continue to produce offensively in order to prevent Heston Kjerstad from eating into his playing time at designated hitter.
Mar 3 2025O'Hearn went 1-for-3 with one strikeout in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was able to get his first hit of the spring out of the cleanup spot in Baltimore's lineup, as he's now gone 1-for-12 during spring training. The 31-year-old veteran slugger is set to function as the Orioles' primary designated hitter versus right-handed pitching in 2025, but he does have 2020 first-rounder Heston Kjerstad fighting for at-bats as well. Although O'Hearn is likely to be on the strong side of a platoon, his lack of playing against southpaws should make him an inconsistent fantasy option outside of deep leagues.
Nov 4 2024The Orioles exercised O'Hearn's $8 million club option for 2025 on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn made $3.5 million in 2024, so he will be getting a nice salary bump in 2025. The 31-year-old has slashed .275/.329/.450 with 29 home runs over 254 regular-season games during his two years in Baltimore. He'll garner regular playing time against right-handed pitching again next season.
Oct 1 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Royals on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old finished the regular season on a tear -- he hit .382 with three doubles and two homers over the final 11 games -- but he'll begin the playoffs on the bench with southpaw Cole Ragans taking the mound for Kansas City. O'Hearn is a strong candidate to appear as a pinch hitter and should be back in the lineup for Game 2 against Royals righty Seth Lugo.
Sep 29 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has homered in back-to-back games after going 25 contests without a long ball. The slugger set a career high with his 15th homer of the year. He's added a .261/.330/.424 slash line, 59 RBI, 58 runs scored and three stolen bases over 141 games this year as a strong-side platoon option at first base, designated hitter and the corner outfield spots.
Sep 28 2024O'Hearn went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Pablo Lopez deep in the second inning, giving the Orioles a lead they wouldn't relinquish as they went on to clinch a wild-card spot with the victory. O'Hearn snapped a 25-game homerless drought with the blast, and he's slashing a tepid .214/.267/.329 through 22 contests in September. Despite the slump, his 14 home runs on the season tie his career high, and O'Hearn has two games left on the regular-season schedule to try and set a new high-water mark.
Sep 20 2024O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup Friday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Tyler Holton set to open Friday's contest for Detroit, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will take a seat on the bench. While he rests, Coby Mayo will pick up a start at first base and bat seventh.
Sep 17 2024O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup Tuesday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will begin Tuesday's game in the dugout with fellow left-hander Blake Snell set to start on the bump for San Francisco. Coby Mayo will handle first-base duties while O'Hearn sits, and Eloy Jimenez will serve as the Orioles' DH.
Sep 1 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Colorado is sending southpaw Ty Blach to the hill for the series finale, so the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will get the afternoon off. Emmanuel Rivera will fill in for O'Hearn at first base.
Aug 30 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will avoid a same-hand matchup with Austin Gomber on Friday. In place of O'Hearn, Emmanuel Rivera will play first base and Eloy Jimenez will DH.
Aug 28 2024O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn took Jack Flaherty deep in the second to give his team the early lead. The home run was his first since July 20 and just his second hit in his last 21 at-bats. For the year, O'Hearn is slashing .268/.343/.438 with 13 homers, 49 RBI, 51 runs, three steals and a 40:51 BB:K in 399 plate appearances.
Aug 25 2024O'Hearn isn't in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has gone 1-for-16 over his past six games and will sit Sunday against Houston lefty Yusei Kikuchi. Eloy Jimenez is batting fifth as the designated hitter in the series finale against the Astros.
Aug 21 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Mets are bringing a left-hander (Sean Manaea) to the hill for the third straight game, and the lefty-hitting O'Hearn has been on the bench for each of those contests. O'Hearn could be a candidate to replace starting left fielder Austin Slater or designated hitter Eloy Jimenez at some point during the contest once Manaea exits.
Aug 20 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Quintana is the second straight lefty to start for New York, so O'Hearn finds himself on the bench again Tuesday. Eloy Jimenez is batting fifth as the designated hitter as the two continue to platoon the position.
Aug 19 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will give way to Eloy Jimenez at DH on Monday as southpaw David Peterson toes the slab for New York. In his last six games, O'Hearn is 5-for-13 with three runs, two walks and no strikeouts.
Aug 16 2024O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Red Sox are going with a left-handed opener in Brennan Bernardino followed by an expected right-handed bulk reliever in Cooper Criswell, so O'Hearn could be a candidate to enter mid-game. Eloy Jimenez will begin the contest at designated hitter.
Aug 14 2024O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Nationals, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Southpaw DJ Herz will toe the slab for the Nationals, so the left-handed-hitting O'Hearn will grab a seat. Austin Slater will occupy left field and Eloy Jimenez will start at designated hitter for the Orioles.
Aug 11 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lefty Jeffrey Springs is starting Sunday for Tampa Bay, so O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for the second straight game. Austin Slater is starting in left field while Eloy Jimenez receives another turn at designated hitter.
Aug 10 2024O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Saturday's game versus Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will take a seat on the bench Saturday after going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk during Friday's victory. While he rests, Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Austin Slater will start across the Orioles' outfield.
Aug 3 2024O'Hearn is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will avoid Cleveland southpaw Joey Cantillo for Saturday's contest. Since the All-Star break, O'Hearn is slashing .239/.393/.413 with one home run and seven RBI across 57 plate appearances. Eloy Jimenez will serve as the deisgnated hitter and bat fifth.
Jul 23 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a walk and one RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn didn't start Sunday after getting hit by a pitch on the knee in Saturday's game versus the Rangers. That was the extent of his absence, and he should be good to regularly serve as the Orioles' designated hitter against right-handed pitchers once again. Tuesday marked his first multi-hit effort since July 3, as he's batting a modest .244 (10-for-41) over 14 contests this month. He's slashing .279/.348/.468 through 299 plate appearances overall.
Jul 21 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers while he contends with a sore left knee, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old had his left knee wrapped following Saturday's 8-4 win after he was hit by a pitch earlier in the contest, but the lefty-hitting O'Hearn likely would have been on the bench Sunday regardless of the injury since southpaw Andrew Heaney is pitching for Texas. O'Hearn will have Monday's team off day to rest up ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Marlins.
Jul 14 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Carlos Rodon on the bump for the Yankees, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench. Adley Rutschman will get a day off of catching duties and serve as the Orioles' designated hitter with O'Hearn out of the lineup.
Jul 11 2024O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Thursday versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Justin Steele will toe the slab for Chicago on Thursday, forcing the left-handed bat of O'Hearn to stay put in Baltimore's dugout. His absence will move Adley Rustchman in to the DH spot while James McCann starts behind the plate.
Jul 10 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three games, O'Hearn will head to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Shota Imanaga takes the hill for the Cubs. With O'Hearn receiving the day off, Adley Rutschman will cede catching duties to James McCann and occupy O'Hearn's usual spot in the lineup at designated hitter.
Jul 5 2024O'Hearn is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will retreat to the bench Friday with Oakland sending southpaw Hogan Harris to the mound. O'Hearn is coming off an 0-for-4 effort with two strikeouts in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners, but since June 1 he is slashing .326/.381/.516 with four home runs and 19 RBI over 95 at-bats. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter Friday and bat second.
Jul 4 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Seattle while also drawing a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn reached in each of his first three trips to the plate, smacking a two-run double in the third and a solo homer in the fifth, with the latter extending Baltimore's lead to four runs. It was the first baseman's third consecutive game with multiple hits, while he's also reached safely in 15 straight. O'Hearn is now 4-for-7 (.571) with two doubles, a homer and three RBI through just two games to open the month of July after batting .321 with 16 RBI in June.
Jul 1 2024O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn got a rare start versus lefty Andrew Heaney on Sunday and came through with three base hits when most of the lineup was held in check. Heading into Sunday's game, O'Hearn was just 2-for-15 against southpaws for the season but he got the start with Ryan Mountcastle unable to go due to an illness. He's now reached safely in 13 consecutive games to close out June and is slashing .285/.347/.461 with 10 homers, 34 RBI, 31 runs and a 22:25 BB:K in 251 plate appearances this season.
Jun 26 2024O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn snapped a 13-game homer drought with his eighth-inning blast. While his power wasn't present in that stretch, the designated hitter went 13-for-46 (.283) with 11 RBI. O'Hearn continues to excel in a strong-side platoon role, posting a .284/.340/.470 slash line with 10 homers, 33 RBI, 28 runs scored and three stolen bases over 235 plate appearances this year, with his success fueled by a career-low 10.2 percent strikeout rate.
Jun 25 2024O'Hearn is absent from the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As per usual, O'Hearn will be held out of the lineup with the Orioles facing a southpaw, as Logan Allen takes the mound for Cleveland on Tuesday. O'Hearn is riding a five-game hit streak, batting 7-for-22 with eight RBI during that span.
Jun 20 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a walk and four RBI in Thursday's 17-5 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn logged his third multi-hit effort in his last four contests. The lefty slugger is batting .358 (19-for-53) with 12 RBI over 16 games in June. He's up to a .289/.347/.477 slash line with nine home runs, 30 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases and eight doubles over 59 games. O'Hearn will continue to play in a strong-side platoon role with few opportunities to step into the lineup versus southpaws.
Jun 18 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will avoid a matchup with LHP Nestor Cortes on Tuesday, giving up DH duties to Adley Rutschman while James McCann catches.
Jun 14 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will avoid a matchup against southpaw Ranger Suarez on Friday, as Adley Rutschman fills in at DH and James McCann catches. O'Hearn is just 1-for-11 against lefties in 2024 and all nine of his home runs have come against right-handed pitching.
Jun 11 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is hitting .400 with a 1.086 OPS through 30 at-bats in June but will take a seat Tuesday as lefty Max Fried pitches for Atlanta. Adley Rutschman will rest his legs as the designated hitter while James McCann starts behind the plate.
Jun 10 2024O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Monday's 5-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn saw a seven-game hitting streak snapped Sunday, but he bounced back quickly. The 30-year-old helped the Orioles pull away Monday with a two-run double in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh. O'Hearn continues to be a force versus right-handed pitchers, slashing .287/.344/.489 with nine home runs, 24 RBI, 25 runs scored, two stolen bases, six doubles and a triple over 189 plate appearances this year in a strong-side platoon role.
Jun 8 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-0 win against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn produced Baltimore's only run against opposing starter Taj Bradley, belting a solo homer to right field in the fourth inning. After Bradley departed, O'Hearn scored his team's second run when he singled and stole second base in the eighth frame before coming home on a Jordan Westburg triple. O'Hearn has homered twice in his past three games and is up to nine long balls on the campaign, putting him well on pace to surpass his career high of 14 homers, which he established in 2019 and tied last season.
Jun 6 2024O'Hearn hit a two-run homer as a pinch hitter in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As usual, O'Hearn started the game on the bench with the Orioles facing left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. O'Hearn entered in the ninth inning and delivered a homer to cut the Orioles' deficit to one run, but they couldn't tie it up. The 30-year-old is up to eight homers over 48 contests this season, and he's added a trusty .280/.343/.471 slash line with 20 RBI, 22 runs scored and one stolen base over 172 plate appearances. O'Hearn continues to be in the lineup versus nearly every opposing right-hander.
Jun 4 2024O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game in Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Right-hander Trevor Richards is serving as an opener for the Blue Jays, but he's always had reverse splits. It's possible O'Hearn will pinch hit when Toronto goes to the bullpen (Bowden Francis is slated for bulk relief), but O'Hearn will begin the game on the bench.
Jun 2 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn typically hits the bench against left-handed pitchers, but he'll get a breather versus a righty (Zack Littell) for the series finale. Adley Rutschman will get a day off from catching and will start at designated hitter in place of O'Hearn, who had been included in the lineup in each of the previous five games.
May 26 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will check out of the lineup with the White Sox bringing southpaw Garrett Crochet to the hill for the series finale. Adley Rutschman will get a day off from catching duties and will serve as Baltimore's designated hitter in place of O'Hearn.
May 19 2024O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had gone nine games without an extra-base hit, hitting .240 (6-for-25) with three RBI in that span. The 30-year-old broke his power drought with a third-inning homer off Mariners starter George Kirby to give the Orioles a 4-1 lead. O'Hearn is up to six homers, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored and a .288/.368/.510 slash line through 33 contests in a strong-side platoon role while seeing time at designated hitter and first base and in the corner outfield spots.
May 15 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will take a seat for the series finale while southpaw Yusei Kikuchi takes the hill for Toronto. Adley Rutschman will get a day off behind the plate and will replace O'Hearn as Baltimore's designated hitter.
May 8 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Mitchell Parker on the hill for Washington, the left-handed-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench. Adley Rutschman will get a day off from catching duties and will fill in for O'Hearn as Baltimore's designated hitter.
May 5 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row while Cincinnati brings another southpaw (Nick Lodolo) to the hill. O'Hearn's absence will allow the Orioles to give infielder Gunnar Henderson a day off playing defense, as the third-year player instead serves as Baltimore's designated hitter.
May 4 2024O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Saturday against the Reds, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will stay put in the Orioles' dugout as the Reds send out lefty Andrew Abbott to start on the mound. Adley Rutschman will serve as Baltimore's DH while O'Hearn rests, allowing James McCann to start behind the plate.
May 3 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has hit safely in his last six games, going 8-for-19 (.421) in that span. The homer was his first since April 16, but the 30-year-old continues to demolish right-handed pitching. He's up to a .307/.381/.573 slash line with five homers, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, three doubles and a triple over 84 plate appearances this season. He should continue to see a strong-side platoon role, mainly as the designated hitter but also with occasional looks in the corner outfield or at first base.
May 2 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will head to the bench for the series finale while the Yankees bring southpaw Carlos Rodon to the bump. Adley Rutschman will receive a day off behind the plate and will fill in for O'Hearn as the Orioles' designated hitter.
Apr 27 2024O'Hearn is not in the Orioles' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Athletics sending out left-hander JP Sears, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will open Saturday's game in the dugout. Adley Rutschman will start at designated hitter while James McCann forms a battery with starting pitcher Cole Irvin.
Apr 24 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench while southpaw Tyler Anderson toes the rubber for the Angels. O'Hearn's absence clears up the designated-hitter spot for Adley Rutschman, allowing Rutschman to get a day out of the field while James McCann handles catching duties for Baltimore.
Apr 20 2024O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed bat of O'Hearn will sit down Saturday as the Royals send fellow lefty Cole Ragans to the mound. His absence will move Adley Rutschman into the DH spot while James McCann starts behind the plate and bats eighth.
Apr 16 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 11-3 win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn provided the final blow in a lopsided Orioles victory, smacking a two-run homer that just cleared the center field wall to extend Baltimore's lead to 11-3 in the eighth inning. O'Hearn's now homered in three straight games while going 6-for-13 in that span. Overall, he's slashing .333/.400/.689 with four homers, 11 runs scored and six RBI through his first 14 games this season.
Apr 15 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-4 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has two homers and a pair of multi-hit efforts over his last two contests. The 30-year-old has carved out a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter while also seeing some time at first base. O'Hearn is quietly finding success in the heart of the Orioles' order, batting .325 with three homers, four RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and a triple through 13 contests. He has not yet attempted a stolen base after swiping five bags in 112 games last year.
Apr 14 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI during Sunday's win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's hot start to 2024 continued Sunday, as he notched his 10th and 11th hits in 12 games played. He took Colin Rea yard in the third inning for a solo home run, marking his second long ball of the season -- both of which have come off right-handed pitching. With Baltimore expected to face three right-handed starters during a homestand against the Twins that starts Monday, O'Hearn should have plenty of opportunities to keep raking.
Apr 13 2024O'Hearn is not in Saturday's lineup against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As is typically the case, O'Hearn will open the game on the bench with a lefty (DL Hall) on the hill for the opposition. Adley Rutschman is starting at designated hitter while James McCann starts behind the dish.
Apr 7 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pirates starter Marco Gonzales is already the fifth left-handed pitcher the Orioles have faced this season, and O'Hearn will once again head to the bench. Adley Rutschman will rest his legs as the designated hitter while James McCann receives a start behind the plate.
Apr 5 2024O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a triple and a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting the start at DH against right-hander Jared Jones and batting fifth, O'Hearn took the rookie hurler deep in the second inning for his first homer of the year. The 30-year-old slugger came out of nowhere to post an .802 OPS over 368 plate appearances last season in a strong-side platoon role, and he's doing more of the same to begin 2024, going 5-for-16 with three of his hits going for extra bases, including a double against the Angels on Opening Day.
Apr 3 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will sit for the third time in six games to begin the season, with all three of his absences coming against left-handed starting pitchers. With O'Hearn on the bench, the Orioles will give Adley Rutschman a day off behind the plate and deploy him as their designated hitter while James McCann forms a battery with starting pitcher Corbin Burnes.
Mar 31 2024O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Reid Detmers is starting for the Angels on Sunday, so Ryan Mountcastle will be at first base, and Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter. Though he was out of the starting lineup Opening Day against a lefty, the first baseman was able to find an at-bat.
Mar 30 2024O'Hearn will start at designated hitter and bat fifth for Saturday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jordan Westburg got the start at DH in Thursday's season opener, but O'Hearn pinch hit in the seventh inning and went 1-for-1 with a double while scoring one run. Westburg will move to second base for Jorge Mateo as the Angels send out right-hander Griffin Canning for Saturday's contest.
Mar 28 2024O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's season opener versus the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels are rolling out southpaw Patrick Sandoval, so Ryan Mountcastle will be at first base and Jordan Westburg will serve as the designated hitter. O'Hearn will be a regular against righties, either at first base or DH.
Feb 19 2024O'Hearn will get reps in the corner outfield spots in spring training, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn still figures to see most of his time at first base or designated hitter to begin the year. The 30-year-old had success in a strong-side platoon role last season, slashing .289/.322/.480 over 368 plate appearances across a career-high 112 games. Adding the outfield to his skill set gives the Orioles more roster flexibility, but he probably won't play much there barring injuries to other players.
Feb 14 2024O'Hearn signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The deal includes a $7.5 million club option for 2025. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had been in his final year of arbitration eligibility, but the Orioles will now have the option to keep him around for what would have been his first year of free agency, as well. The 30-year-old had a surprise re-emergence with Baltimore in 2023, posting an .801 OPS with 14 homers in 112 games. He will see regular action against right-handers between first base and designated hitter.
Oct 10 2023O'Hearn is serving as the Orioles' designated hitter and batting fifth Tuesday in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was limited to pinch-hitting work in the first two games of the series with the Rangers starting a pair of lefties, but he'll now get his first career postseason start as right-hander Nathan Eovaldi readies to take the mound in Texas. O'Hearn posted an .802 OPS in 339 plate appearances versus righties during the regular season.
Oct 8 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS versus the Rangers on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the second straight game on the bench for O'Hearn, as Texas will send out another southpaw in Jordan Montgomery. Aaron Hicks will replace him in the lineup while manning right field, pushing Anthony Santander to the DH spot and Ryan Mountcastle to first base.
Oct 7 2023O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Game 1 of the ALDS versus the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Southpaw Andrew Heaney will toe the slab for Texas to begin Saturday's game, so the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will step out of the lineup. Ryan Mountcastle will get the nod at first base with Anthony Santander operating as the DH and Aaron Hicks starting in right field.
Sep 28 2023O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Thursday against Boston, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will step out of the lineup as the O's are set to face a left-handed pitcher (Chris Sale) for the second game in a row. Ryan Mountcastle will cover first base while O'Hearn sits, moving Adley Rutschman into the DH spot with James McCann behind the plate.
Sep 27 2023O'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Nationals are throwing left-hander Patrick Corbin, so O'Hearn will take a seat. Anthony Santander is getting a start at first base, and Aaron Hicks will patrol right field.
Sep 20 2023O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn homered in his first at-bat and hit safely again in the third inning for his seventh hit in a row before cooling off to end the game. He's batting .375 (21-for-56) over 15 contests in September, an impressive run in what's been a surprisingly good season for the first baseman. He's slashing .311/.339/.519 with 14 homers -- matching his career high -- 59 RBI, 47 runs scored and four stolen bases over 101 games.
Sep 19 2023O'Hearn went 5-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's victory over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since the start of September, O'Hearn is batting .373 (19-for-51) in 14 games with a pair of homers, 12 RBI and a .961 OPS. The 30-year-old first baseman has had one of the more surprising breakout campaigns this year, slashing .309/.338/.511 with 13 homers, 57 RBI and 45 runs scored through 326 plate appearances. Even when Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) is able to return, O'Hearn should continue to see regular playing time in Baltimore's lineup.
Sep 15 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's blast was one of four hits for the Orioles in the game, but he struck out in his other three at-bats. With Ryan Mountcastle nursing a shoulder injury, O'Hearn may get more playing time at first base in the coming days. O'Hearn has maintained a solid September so far, going 11-for-35 (.314) with two homers and nine RBI across 10 games. He's slashing .299/.330/.505 with 13 long balls, 54 RBI, 42 runs scored and four stolen bases through 309 plate appearances this season.
Sep 13 2023O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has an .867 OPS through eight games in September and will sit Wednesday versus lefty Drew Rom. Ryan Mountcastle will handle first base while Adley Rutschman rests his legs as Baltimore's designated hitter.
Sep 9 2023O'Hearn will sit Saturday against lefty Chris Sale and the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has been one of the surprises of the season for the AL-leading Orioles, with his .305/.338/.509 slash line far outpacing his .219/.293/.390 showing in five years with Kansas City. Despite that success, Baltimore has prevented him from facing lefties, giving him just 23 plate appearances against same-sided pitching all season.
Sep 6 2023O'Hearn is absent from the lineup again Wednesday versus the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marks three straight absences for O'Hearn as the Orioles face a string of left-handed starters, though he came off the bench late in Tuesday's game and contributed an RBI single and a run scored to Baltimore's eventual extra-innings victory over the Halos. O'Hearn has drawn only 22 plate appearances against southpaws this year.
Sep 5 2023O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Tuesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Southpaw Reid Detmers will begin Tuesday's game on the mound for the Angels, forcing the left-handed bat of O'Hearn to the bench. O'Hearn's absence will put Ryan Mountcastle at first base, Aaron Hicks in right field and Anthony Santander in as Baltimore's DH.
Sep 4 2023O'Hearn is not in Monday's lineup against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is hitting .316 with one home run, five runs and nine RBI over his last 10 games. As is typically the case, he'll hit the bench with lefty Kenny Rosenberg starting for the Angels.
Aug 27 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 loss against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn came off the bench in the eighth with the Orioles down two and tied the game with a blast to right. The part-timer has been productive in his first season with the Orioles, slashing .298/.335/.506 with 11 homers and 42 RBI in 245 at-bats.
Aug 22 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is not starting with lefty Yusei Kikuchi taking the mound for the Blue Jays. Ryan Mountcastle will move to first base, Adley Rutschman will move to designated hitter and James McCann will enter the lineup and slot in behind the dish.
Aug 20 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will once again hit the bench while the Orioles face a left-handed starting pitcher (JP Sears) for the fourth time in as many days. With O'Hearn taking a seat, Gunnar Henderson will get a day out of the field and serve as the Orioles' designated hitter while Ryan Mountcastle picks up a start at first base.
Aug 19 2023O'Hearn will be on the bench for Saturday's game against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has only started once against a lefty who wasn't an opener this season, so it's no surprise to see him hit the bench here against Ken Waldichuk. Ryan Mountcastle will handle first base, leaving the designated hitter spot open for Adley Rutschman to rest his legs for the day.
Aug 18 2023O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a triple, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Not one known for his speed, O'Hearn showed off some surprises in Friday's win. The triple was his first of the season, while the theft was his fourth this year, two of which have come in his last five games. He's hitting .279 (12-for-43) with five extra-base hits in August while continuing to see steady playing time between first base and the corner outfield positions. O'Hearn is at a .303/.341/.513 slash line with 10 home runs, 40 RBI, 31 runs scored and 16 doubles through 76 games.
Aug 16 2023O'Hearn is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went 4-for-6 with a homer, a double, two walks and two runs scored over the first two games of the Orioles' three-game series in San Diego, but he'll hit the bench Wednesday with left-hander Blake Snell toeing the slab for the opposition. Ryan Mountcastle is playing first base and Anthony Santander will cover right field.
Aug 15 2023O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Monday in a 4-1 victory versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn plated the first run of the contest with a 343-foot solo shot to right field in the second inning. The long ball was his 10th of the campaign, marking the first time since 2019 that he's notched double-digit homers. O'Hearn has already recorded a career-best 40 RBI over 237 plate appearances this season.
Aug 12 2023O'Hearn went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has three steals this season, two of which have come in his last eight games. While he's been a pleasant surprise for the Orioles this season, he's cooled off by hitting .207 (6-for-29) over 10 games in August. O'Hearn is at a .294/.330/.491 slash line with nine home runs, 39 RBI, 28 runs scored and 15 doubles through 230 plate appearances. He's seen time at first base, right field and left field over the last week as manager Brandon Hyde has gotten creative to keep O'Hearn's bat in the lineup.
Aug 6 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will hit the bench with southpaw Jose Quintana toeing the rubber for the Mets. Ryan Mountcastle will start at first base and bat second in O'Hearn's stead.
Aug 5 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-3 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with four RBI and two doubles over his last six games. The 30-year-old had seen a lot of time at first base in recent weeks, but the resurgence of Ryan Mountcastle has forced manager Brandon Hyde to get creative with where O'Hearn fits. He's made his last two starts in right field, though there's also a need to fit Anthony Santander and Colton Cowser into the mix on occasion. O'Hearn has a .306/.344/.513 slash line with nine home runs, two steals, 37 RBI and 27 runs scored through 209 plate appearances this year.
Aug 2 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has gone 4-for-9 with three RBI over his last two games, but the left-handed hitter will take a seat Wednesday as the Orioles face off against southpaw Yusei Kikuchi. Ryan Mountcastle is playing first base and batting second. Adley Rutschman will serve as the O's designated hitter and James McCann is doing the catching.
Aug 1 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started the past four games and will receive a day off after he went 5-for-16 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs during that stretch. Ryan Mountcastle will shift to first base while Gunnar Henderson serves as the designated hitter versus Toronto lefty Hyun Jin Ryu.
Jul 30 2023O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn knocked a two-run double during Baltimore's seven-run first inning and later added another RBI base knock. He's been hot for most of the month, going 22-for-67 (.328) with nine extra-base hits over his last 22 games. The 30-year-old lefty entered the season with a career .683 OPS but is currently slashing .304/.345/.525 with 22 extra-base hits and 36 RBI through 197 plate appearances.
Jul 26 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With left-hander Ranger Suarez taking the bump for the Phillies, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will unsurprisingly retreat to the bench. Ryan Mountcastle will replace O'Hearn at first base in the series finale.
Jul 24 2023O'Hearn is not in the starting lineup Monday against Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will head to the bench as Baltimore faces off with southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Ryan Mountcastle will start at first base and bat third in the series opener with the Phillies.
Jul 19 2023O'Hearn will sit Wednesday against the Dodgers, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will get a breather after he went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored over the first two games of the series. With left-hander Julio Urias on the mound, Ryan Mountcastle will slot in at first base while Jorge Mateo enters the lineup at shortstop after some shuffling, batting ninth in the series finale with Los Angeles.
Jul 6 2023O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with one double, four RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 14-1 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After hitting a two-run homer and corralling a steal Wednesday, O'Hearn once again made a significant impact Thursday. He notched his econd three-hit game of 2023 and tied his season high in RBI during the blowout win. The power-hitting lefty has strung together a four-game hit streak, a stretch where he's hitting 7-for-16 (.438) with seven RBI and three runs scored.
Jul 5 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After picking up his first Major-League stolen base, O'Hearn gave the Orioles some breathing room in the top of the ninth inning with a two-run shot off Ian Hamilton, extending the lead to 6-3. The 29-year-old O'Hearn has hits in his last three games following an 0-for-16 stretch over his previous six contests. Overall, he's slashing a strong .294/.343/.524 with seven homers, 24 RBI, and 19 runs scored across 137 plate appearances this season. Despite his solid year, O'Hearn could soon lose playing time with Ryan Mountcastle (illness) nearing a return.
Jul 2 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting at first base in each of the past three games while going 1-for-12 with an RBI and a run, O'Hearn will give way to Ramon Urias in the series finale. Ryan Mountcastle (illness) could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list as soon as Monday and will likely take over as the everyday first baseman once activated, but O'Hearn would still have a path to playing time versus right-handed pitching while serving as a designated hitter or starting in the corner outfield.
Jun 27 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup again Tuesday versus the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ramon Urias will play first base and bat sixth as the Orioles face off against left-hander Andrew Abbott. Anthony Santander drew the start at first Monday. O'Hearn has logged only five plate appearances against lefties this year, compared to 103 plate appearances against righties.
Jun 26 2023O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Monday against the Reds, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's bat has cooled off considerably lately, as he's just 3-for-18 (.167) with a home run and five strikeouts across his last five games. He'll get a breather Monday while Anthony Santander fills in at first base, moving Aaron Hicks into right field.
Jun 21 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-6 victory over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's been on quite a run while filling in for Ryan Mountcastle (illness). The 29-year-old first baseman has hits in eight straight games, going 14-for-28 with three homers and 1.426 OPS in that span. O'Hearn is now slashing an impressive .345/.383/.632 with six homers, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored through 94 plate appearances. While his .407 BABIP indicates he's due for some regression, O'Hearn has certainly made a case for a role in Baltimore, even when Mountcastle returns.
Jun 17 2023O'Hearn will be on the bench Saturday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has been surprisingly effective in 27 games for the Orioles this season, with his 1.004 OPS dwarfing the .683 OPS he managed across parts of five seasons with the Royals. He's almost exclusively been deployed against righties, so it's no surprise to see him sit here against Justin Steele. Ramon Urias will start at first base.
Jun 16 2023O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a double in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has gone 17-for-42 (.405) over his last 12 contests, and he appears to be the replacement for Ryan Mountcastle (illness) at first base. It's a rather unprecedented run of success for O'Hearn, who has rarely been more than a versatile bench bat in his career. He's up to a .338/.381/.623 slash line with five home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and seven doubles over 84 plate appearances. He may have some fantasy appeal, at least in AL-only formats, while he's wielding a hot bat.
Jun 14 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn, batting cleanup and playing first base with Ryan Mountcastle (illness) unavailable, extended Baltimore's lead to 4-1 with a two-run shot off Chris Bassitt in the third inning. The 29-year-old O'Hearn has homered in back-to-back games while going 6-for-10 in his last three contests. He's now slashing an impressive .319/.368/.623 with five homers, 11 runs scored and 19 RBI through his first 76 plate appearances with the Orioles.
Jun 13 2023O'Hearn is starting at first base and batting cleanup in Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He's filling in at first base for Ryan Mountcastle (illness) and is getting his second straight start in the cleanup spot. O'Hearn homered and reached base five times from the cleanup spot Sunday versus the Royals.
Jun 12 2023O'Hearn went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and four runs scored in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had a career game Sunday, which also featured his fifth multi-hit effort in his last 12 contests. The 29-year-old has found playing time at first base, designated hitter and corner outfield at times this season, and he's hitting well enough to force his way into the lineup versus most right-handed pitchers. He's up to a .328/.380/.609 slash line with four homers, 17 RBI and 10 runs scored over 71 plate appearances.
Jun 9 2023O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Friday versus Kansas City, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The left-handed O'Hearn will sit Friday as the Royals prepare to send southpaw Daniel Lynch to the mound. James McCann will instead serve as Baltimore's DH and bat sixth.
Jun 7 2023O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn took Joel Payamps deep to left center in the seventh to put the Orioles ahead 3-2. It was his first home run since May 20 but he has picked up an RBI in three of his last four games. The 29-year-old has seven hits over his last five games while primarily seeing action only versus righties. He's raised his slash line to .302/.345/.566 with three homers, 15 RBI, six runs and a 4:13 BB:K over 58 plate appearances.
Jun 4 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will hit the bench after he started in each of Baltimore's last three games, going 4-for-10 with three doubles, a walk, a run and three RBI. While he's swinging a hot bat, O'Hearn could hold down a semi-regular role for the final spot in the Baltimore lineup, which had previously been reserved for Ramon Urias. O'Hearn will be joined on the bench Sunday by Urias, who has now sat out three times in four contests.
May 21 2023O'Hearn will sit Sunday versus the Blue Jays, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and a run scored in Saturday's victory, but he will now head to the bench Sunday. Adley Rutschman will draw the start at designated hitter while James McCann enters the lineup at catcher and bats eighth in the series finale with Toronto.
May 16 2023O'Hearn went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn got Baltimore on the board with his first home run of the year, a solo shot off Chase Silseth in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. The 29-year-old O'Hearn is now 6-for-25 with seven RBI and a .710 OPS in 12 games with the Orioles. He slashed .239/.290/.321 with one homer in 145 plate appearances with the Royals last season. While Tuesday's homer is encouraging, it's hard to see O'Hearn playing enough to earn a fantasy-relevant role in Baltimore.
May 9 2023O'Hearn was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will return to the big leagues after being sent down Friday, replacing Luis Torrens on the active roster after Torrens was designated for assignment. O'Hearn has gone 5-for-19 with a double, six RBI and a run scored over limited action in nine games with Baltimore this season. He'll likely operate as a reserve option at both first base and corner outfield moving forward.
May 5 2023O'Hearn was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will head back to Triple-A after he spent a little over three weeks with the Orioles, going 5-for-19 with a double, six RBI and a run scored while appearing in nine games. With Luis Torrens being acquired from the Cubs on Wednesday, O'Hearn appears to be the odd-man out on the big-league roster.
Mar 18 2023O'Hearn (knee) is starting at first base and batting sixth Saturday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed a week with knee soreness but an MRI came back clean and this won't impact O'Hearn's ability to get a fair look at a roster spot as a non-roster invitee. O'Hearn is hitting .474 with one home run, three strikeouts and three walks in 19 at-bats this spring.
Mar 17 2023O'Hearn (knee) went through full baseball activities Friday and could be back in the Orioles' Grapefruit League lineup Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: If he returns Saturday, he will have missed about a week of action with right knee soreness. O'Hearn has made a positive impression this spring when healthy and is still in the running for a roster spot.
Mar 16 2023O'Hearn's right knee MRI has come back negative, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The swelling and fluid in O'Hearn's knee has subsided and he was able to run on a treadmill Thursday. He considers himself ready to return to game action but will leave that decision up to the Orioles.
Mar 14 2023O'Hearn (knee) is feeling better but is expected to miss a few more days of action, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's right knee remains swollen and is "still pretty sore," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. The former Royal has a real shot to make the Opening Day roster, so he can't afford to miss too much more time.
Mar 12 2023O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox due to a sore knee, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn recently suffered the injury while making a leaping play in the outfield, and he's currently considered day-to-day. The 29-year-old is a longshot for the Opening Day roster after being outrighted off Baltimore's 40-man roster in January, and any prolonged absence will only further reduce his chances of making the team.
Jan 5 2023O'Hearn was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was acquired by the Orioles earlier this week after being DFA'd by the Royals, and he's now been booted off another 40-man roster. The 29-year-old appeared in 67 games last season and had a .239/.290/.321 slash line with one homer and 16 RBI. Lewin Diaz was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move.
Jan 3 2023O'Hearn was acquired by the Orioles from the Royals on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The O's are apparently hopeful that O'Hearn -- who hasn't had an OPS higher than .650 over the last four seasons -- can help them at first base and designated hitter against right-handed pitching. The 29-year-old will make $1.4 million in 2023 and is eligible for arbitration again in 2024.
Dec 28 2022The Royals designated O'Hearn for assignment Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was dropped from the 40-man roster to make room for starting pitcher Jordan Lyles, who inked a two-year deal with Kansas City. Despite sticking with the big club all of last season and not spending any time on the injured list, the 29-year-old O'Hearn logged just 145 plate appearances, slashing .239/.290/.321 with a 24.1 percent strikeout rate.
Nov 15 2022O'Hearn agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Royals on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn, 29, has been a below replacement level player in the majors in each of the last four seasons, so it's a little surprising that he's sticking around on a big-league pact. Last year he saw time at first base, designated hitter and right field. O'Hearn is a career .219/.293/.390 hitter in 342 games and has been worth -1.4 fWAR over that time.
Sep 25 2022O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 13-12 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has seen his playing time drop even more since rosters expanded at the start of September -- he's started in just four contests this month. Despite the inconsistent playing time, he's been solid, going 7-for-22 (.318) in his last 10 contests. He hadn't driven in a run since Aug. 22 before his two-run double in the sixth inning Sunday. O'Hearn has a .230/.285/.310 slash line with one home run, five doubles, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored through 137 plate appearances.
Aug 22 2022O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn hadn't been in the lineup since July 28, but he got the start at designated hitter Monday. The Royals have opted to give playing time to a large number of rookies since the trade deadline, so O'Hearn remains little more than a bench bat at this point in the season. The 29-year-old is slashing .223/.282/.309 with one home run, 11 RBI and eight runs scored through 103 plate appearances, though he has hit safely in three of the last five games in which he's recorded an at-bat.
Jul 28 2022O'Hearn went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was O'Hearn's first game since the All-Star break, and he turned in his first multi-hit effort of the season. All three hits were singles. The 29-year-old remains firmly in a bench role for now, though the Royals are expected to trade away some veterans before next Tuesday's trade deadline. That could open up some extra playing time for O'Hearn, though it's more likely the team opts to give prospects a long look at the major-league level instead. The veteran owns a meager .207/.258/.280 slash line with one home run, 10 RBI and six runs scored through 89 plate appearances.
Jul 25 2022O'Hearn remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn made four consecutive starts in right field during the Royals' series in Toronto to close out the first half, but he's predictably faded back into a bench role coming out of the All-Star break with Kansas City having since returned 10 players from the restricted list. He'll be on the bench for the fourth game in a row, with Hunter Dozier having since taken over as Kansas City's everyday right fielder.
Jul 14 2022O'Hearn will start in right field and bat fifth in Thursday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With six of the Royals' options in the outfield (Andrew Benintendi, Michael Taylor, Whit Merrifield, Kyle Isbel, Hunter Dozier and MJ Melendez) all landing on the restricted list Thursday and ineligible to play in the four-game series in Toronto due to their vaccination statuses, O'Hearn should be a fixture in the lineup this weekend. Toronto is expected to bring four right-handed starting pitchers to the hill, which should lessen the possibility of the lefty-hitting O'Hearn exiting the starting nine. Despite having held down a spot on the active roster all season, O'Hearn has logged just 71 plate appearances through 88 games and is slashing .182/.225/.242.
Jul 11 2022O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with two RBI in a 7-3 win over the Tigers in the second game of Monday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went 0-for-2 in the matinee game, but he was able to supply some offense in the nightcap. The 28-year-old had gone 0-for-9 across his previous seven games before starting both of Monday's contests in right field. With Whit Merrifield (toe) out, O'Hearn could be in contention for a little more playing time in right field, though Edward Olivares and Kyle Isbel are most likely to play there. O'Hearn has slashed .182/.225/.242 with a home run, nine RBI and four runs scored through 71 plate appearances, so he's still little more than a depth player.
Jun 19 2022O'Hearn went 1-for-1 with an RBI double in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn hit for Emmanuel Rivera and knocked in the game's first run in the seventh inning. While he's yet to start a game in June, O'Hearn has gone 2-for-5 in a pinch-hitting role. His last start was May 27, and it doesn't appear his path to playing time will get any easier as long as the Royals' preferred starting nine are healthy, as manager Mike Matheny doesn't utilize many platoons. O'Hearn is slashing .216/.268/.294 with a home run, seven RBI, four runs scored and a double in 56 plate appearances overall.
Jun 3 2022O'Hearn has drawn just nine starts since the beginning of May. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals' flexible lineup hasn't opened up many chances for playing time for O'Hearn. The 28-year-old also hasn't done much to earn a longer look in the lineup, hitting just .191/.250/.255 with a home run, five RBI and four runs scored through 52 plate appearances. While Carlos Santana appears set to lose his starting role at first base, Hunter Dozier and MJ Melendez are the most likely to benefit with more stable spots in the lineup, with O'Hearn remaining in a bench role.
May 13 2022O'Hearn hit a two-run home run as a pinch hitter in Friday's 14-10 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn provided a little extra insurance with his first homer of the year in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old has added five RBI and two runs scored through 29 plate appearances. He saw a bit more playing time when Carlos Santana (ankle) was out, but the latter is a switch hitter likely to command much of the playing time at first base going forward. O'Hearn will likely have to compete with Hunter Dozier, Emmanuel Rivera and MJ Melendez to draw starts as the designated hitter.
May 12 2022O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Taylor Hearn on the hill for Texas, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will give way in the lineup to the righty-hitting Emmanuel Rivera, who came off the bench to replace him in Wednesday's 8-2 win and provided a three-run triple in his lone at-bat. O'Hearn should still find himself in the large side of a platoon at first base or designated hitter until Carlos Santana (ankle) is ready to return from the injured list.
May 10 2022O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had started at first base or designated hitter in four of the Royals' last five games, going 2-for-13 with two RBI and a run. With a southpaw (Martin Perez) on the mound for Texas, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will cede his spot in the lineup to the righty-hitting Emmanuel Rivera, who will handle DH duties.
May 8 2022O'Hearn isn't starting the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn drew his third consecutive start in Sunday's matinee, and he went 0-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout. Hunter Dozier will start at first base while Salvador Perez serves as the designated hitter.
Apr 24 2022O'Hearn is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will bow out of the lineup after going 0-for-2 with a walk while making his first start of the season in Saturday's 13-7 loss. Even though he's been with the Royals since Opening Day, O'Hearn has been one of MLB's least-used bench players. He's seen action in only four of the Royals' first 13 games while logging seven plate appearances in total.
Mar 31 2022O'Hearn (groin) will bat third while serving as the Royals' designated hitter in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's return to the lineup supports the notion that the Royals' decision to remove him from Tuesday's game against the Mariners was mostly a matter of caution while he dealt with a left groin injury. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a red-hot spring with 10 hits -- including a pair of home runs -- across 20 at-bats.
Mar 30 2022O'Hearn (groin) isn't starting Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn was removed from Tuesday's matchup as a precautionary measure, and he'll be held out of the starting lineup Wednesday. He'll have just over a week to return to full health prior to Opening Day.
Mar 29 2022O'Hearn left Tuesday's Cactus League game with a left groin injury and is considered day-to-day. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn's removal from the contest was labeled a precaution, so it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. Still, any injury this close to Opening Day is noteworthy, and he'll have just over a week to get back on the field before the start of the regular season April 7.
Mar 22 2022O'Hearn signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Royals on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is expected to serve in a utility role with time at first base, right field and designated hitter in 2022. The 28-year-old posted a mediocre .225/.268/.369 slash line with nine home runs, 29 RBI and 23 runs scored in 84 games last season.
Sep 21 2021O'Hearn remains on the bench Tuesday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has filled a regular role at times this season, but he doesn't appear to have one now, as he's started just one of the team's last six games. The Royals appear to be going with eight everyday starters while rotating players through their ninth lineup spot, with O'Hearn seemingly slipping behind Kyle Isbel and Hanser Alberto for that role. O'Hearn owns a .624 OPS on the season, the third straight season he's been at or below .650 in that category, so he's not making a strong case for everyday at-bats.
Sep 20 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Game 1 and will return to the bench for the nightcap. It's the fourth time in the past five games the 28-year-old finds himself on the bench, which is likely in part due to the fact he's 3-for-23 through 12 games in September.
Sep 19 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is on the bench for the third consecutive game as Salvador Perez receives a day off from behind the plate to serve as the designated hitter. O'Hearn is 3-for-23 through 12 games in September and may receive inconsistent opportunities down the stretch.
Sep 18 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games. He's only started four games all season against lefties, so it's unsurprising to see him on the bench here against Yusei Kikuchi. Hunter Dozier will be the right fielder Saturday, while Hanser Alberto fills the designated hitter spot.
Sep 17 2021O'Hearn will sit Friday against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games, with this off day coming against righty Chris Flexen. Kyle Isbel starts in right field.
Sep 15 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will unsurprisingly take a seat with southpaw Sean Manaea on the hill for Oakland, but the former may have reclaimed a spot in Kansas City's regular lineup versus right-handed pitching. O'Hearn went 1-for-6 with a pair of walks while starting both of the Royals' past two games versus righties, while Edward Olivares was relegated to a bench role.
Sep 6 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will unsurprisingly remain on the bench with the Royals facing a southpaw (Zac Lowther) for the series opener in Baltimore. O'Hearn has been hurt by Kansas City facing a slew of lefties lately, but Adalberto Mondesi's recent return from the injured list looks like it will cost O'Hearn some opportunities versus right-handed pitching, too. O'Hearn has picked up only one start in the Royals' last seven games.
Sep 1 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will remain on the bench for the second straight game with Kansas City facing a southpaw (Logan Allen) on Wednesday. O'Hearn's opportunities against right-handed pitching could soon take a hit, as Kansas City welcomes back Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) from the injured list Wednesday. Mondesi is expected to see most of his initial starts at designated hitter while he returns from an extended absence, leaving O'Hearn, Hunter Dozier and Edward Olivares to compete for reps in right field.
Aug 31 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An 0-for-4 effort Monday lowered O'Hearn's average to .167 with two doubles and three runs in his last 10 games. Hunter Dozier is the designated hitter Tuesday, with Edward Olivares getting a start in right field.
Aug 28 2021O'Hearn is not starting Saturday's game against the Mariners, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even after a three-hit night Friday, O'Hearn is still hitting just .207 with a pair of doubles and no RBI in his last 10 games. Salvador Perez is DH'ing and batting third Saturday.
Aug 22 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will be squeezed out of the lineup against a right-hander (Alec Mills), mostly as a result of no designated hitter being available in Chicago. Hunter Dozier will pick up a start in right field, the position O'Hearn manned in the first two games of the series.
Aug 17 2021O'Hearn is not starting Tuesday against the Astros, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Monday's win, but he will now sit for the third time in four games against left-hander Framber Valdez. Hanser Alberto will handle the DH duties and bat seventh.
Aug 15 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is 6-for-21 with a homer, a triple, seven RBI and two runs through nine games in August, and he'll sit for the second straight contest Sunday. Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter while Cam Gallagher starts behind the plate.
Aug 14 2021O'Hearn will not be in the lineup for Saturday's game against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn hasn't done much to justify regular at-bats this season, hitting a modest .235/.266/.422. Hunter Dozier will be the designated hitter Saturday, with Whit Merrifield starting in right field.
Aug 10 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn sat twice over the weekend with the Royals playing in a National League park without a designated hitter, and he's out of the lineup again Tuesday. Whit Merrifield will serve as the designated hitter while Hanser Alberto starts at second base.
Aug 8 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday at St. Louis, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will sit for the second straight contest while the Royals are without the services of a designated hitter in a National League park. Hunter Dozier will start in right field Sunday while Hanser Alberto works at third base.
Aug 7 2021O'Hearn will sit Saturday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals' regular starting nine will be a man short due to the lack of the designated hitter in the National League park. O'Hearn served as the right fielder Friday, but that spot will be occupied by Hunter Dozier in the second game of the series.
Aug 5 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As per usual, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench with a southpaw (Dallas Keuchel) on the mound for the opposition. Emmanuel Rivera will pick up a spot start in O'Hearn's stead, occupying third base while Hunter Dozier moves to right field.
Jul 29 2021O'Hearn isn't in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started the last two games and went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two strikeouts, but he'll head back to the bench with left-hander Carlos Rodon starting Thursday. Jorge Soler will shift to right field while Salvador Perez serves as the designated hitter.
Jul 26 2021O'Hearn isn't in the lineup Monday against the White Sox, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will retreat to the bench for a second straight contest with left-hander Dallas Keuchel on the mound for the White Sox. Jorge Soler will serve as the designated hitter while Jarrod Dyson starts in right field.
Jul 25 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup Sunday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started the first two games of the series and will take a seat for the finale with southpaw Tarik Skubal pitching for Detroit. Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter while Cam Gallagher starts behind the plate.
Jul 23 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's 5-3 win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old broke a 1-1 tie with his fourth-inning blast off Detroit starter Wily Peralta. While O'Hearn's .220 batting average is nothing special, he's supplied eight home runs, 18 RBI and 16 runs scored across 138 plate appearances in a limited role this season. He figures to draw into the lineup mostly as the designated hitter or in right field.
Jul 21 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With no designated hitter available in Milwaukee, O'Hearn will be squeezed out of the lineup for the second day in a row. Despite not starting Tuesday, O'Hearn was able to make an impact off the bench in the Royals' 5-2 win by slugging a two-run home run as a pinch hitter.
Jul 20 2021O'Hearn hit a two-run home run during his only at-bat in Tuesday's win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn came in to pinch hit in the seventh and gave the Royals the lead by leaving the yard against Hunter Strickland. The long ball was the seventh of the year for the 27-year-old, who is averaging .219/.254/.398 across 40 games.
Jul 16 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn sits for the first game of the second half after starting seven straight games prior to the break. He struggled to a .422 OPS over that stretch and owns a .643 OPS on the season, so he hasn't exactly made a great case for an everyday role. Whit Merrifield will be the right fielder Friday, with Jorge Soler serving as the designated hitter.
Jul 3 2021O'Hearn isn't starting Saturday's game against Minnesota, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn recently drew 10 consecutive starts, but he'll take a seat for a second straight matchup. Jorge Soler will serve as the designated hitter while Hanser Alberto enters the lineup at second base.
Jul 2 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup Friday against the Twins, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started all 10 games since being recalled by the Royals on June 21, and he's gone 12-for-41 with three homers, seven RBI, five runs and 11 strikeouts in 41 plate appearances. Jorge Soler will bat second as the designated hitter Friday.
Jun 30 2021O'Hearn went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn logged his first three-hit game of the year with a pair of singles and a two-run blast in the fifth to put the Royals back up 6-5. The 27-year-old spent nearly a month at Triple-A Omaha after showing struggles early in the year but is slashing .333/.333/.606 with 11 hits, seven RBI and four runs scored in eight games since being recalled back to the big club June 21.
Jun 24 2021O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn staked the Royals to an early lead, clubbing a two-run homer to right field in the first inning. He added another RBI on an infield single that temporarily put Kansas City on top in the ninth frame. In two games since being called back up to the big club June 22, O'Hearn has gone 4-for-9 with a pair of homers and five RBI.
Jun 22 2021O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI and another run scored during Tuesday's win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn evened up the score by going deep against Gerrit Cole in the fourth frame. The 27-year-old was batting fourth as the designated hitter in his return to the lineup after Adalberto Mondesi headed back to the injured list (oblique). Following a lackluster go-around at the plate earlier in the season, O'Hearn is batting just .211/.262/.439 with four long balls across 21 games.
Jun 21 2021The Royals recalled O'Hearn from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kansas City placed middle infielder Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) on the 10-day injured list to clear a spot for O'Hearn. So long as both Carlos Santana and Jorge Soler are healthy, O'Hearn likely won't have a clear path to regular at-bats at either first base or designated hitter, so he's expected to serve mostly as a lefty-hitting option off the bench during his time in Kansas City.
May 28 2021O'Hearn was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had been on the active roster for over a month but didn't do much with his playing time. In 57 plate appearances, he hit just .189/.246/.377 while striking out 35.1 percent of the time. Hunter Dozier (concussion) returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.
May 27 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 7-2 loss to Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Kansas City trailing 7-0 after four innings, manager Mike Matheny turned to his bench. O'Hearn replaced Carlos Santana at first base, and the former ended up providing the team's only offense Thursday. The 27-year-old has three homers, six RBI and six runs scored in 57 plate appearances this year. O'Hearn isn't likely to displace Santana or Jorge Soler from the lineup, so he'll remain in a bench role.
May 22 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-5 loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was his first game in a week, and he snapped an 0-for-11 skid with his RBI single in the sixth inning. O'Hearn then scored on Michael Taylor's two-run home run. Salvador Perez has battled groin tightness in the last week, which has kept him out of his usual catcher position. He's remained in the lineup as the designated hitter, but that's pushed O'Hearn out of the way in recent games. With Perez returning behind the dish Friday, O'Hearn may see more playing time going forward.
May 9 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: On the bench for a third straight game, O'Hearn looks to have lost hold of a strong-side platoon role for Kansas City. Hanser Alberto will make his third start in as many days in place of O'Hearn, who is hitting .219 with a pair of solo home runs since his April 23 call-up.
May 8 2021O'Hearn isn't starting Saturday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will be out of the lineup for a second straight game after he went hitless with a walk and four strikeouts in his last four at-bats. Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter while Sebastian Rivero starts behind the plate.
May 7 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup Friday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will head to the bench Friday with lefty Carlos Rodon starting for Chicago. Jorge Soler will serve as the designated hitter while Hunter Dozier moves to right field for Kansas City.
May 2 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kansas City is giving catcher Salvador Perez a day off duties behind the plate but keeping his bat in the lineup as the designated hitter, so O'Hearn will head to the bench to make room for him. Since his April 23 call-up, O'Hearn has emerged as Kansas City's primary DH against right-handed pitching. Over five games, O'Hearn has gone 3-for-18 with two solo home runs and three walks.
May 1 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in an 11-3 rout of Minnesota on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since being recalled from the alternate training site O'Hearn has started on a part-time basis, batting 3-for-18 with two home runs. He's always been a power bat and with regular appearances O'Hearn could sustain value in deeper leagues.
Apr 28 2021O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since the Royals don't have the designated hitter available in Pittsburgh, O'Hearn will remained sidelined for the second straight day. Kansas City will resume American League play Friday in Minnesota, so O'Hearn should soon reclaim a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching.
Apr 27 2021O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started three of the Royals' first four games after making his season debut Friday, going 2-for-10 with a homer and a pair of walks. With the team now heading to a National League park for a two-game series, someone has to miss out. That someone will be O'Hearn on Tuesday.
Apr 25 2021O'Hearn will serve as the Royals' designated hitter and bat fifth Sunday against the Tigers, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn will be rewarded with a second start against a right-handed pitcher (Michael Fulmer) after he went yard and drew a pair of walks in his season debut Friday. The Royals will likely keep O'Hearn on the bench against left-handed pitching, but so long as he can remain productive against right-handed pitching, the 27-year-old may be able to hold down the strong side of a platoon at designated hitter.
Apr 23 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Friday's 6-2 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went yard off Tigers starter Casey Mize in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old O'Hearn had all of two homers in 42 games for the Royals last year, although he hit 14 in 105 contests in 2019. He batted fifth and served as the designated hitter Friday. It remains to be seen how often O'Hearn will play while he's on the big-league roster. Carlos Santana has an everyday job at O'Hearn's natural first base position, while Jorge Soler will often be the designated hitter.
Mar 30 2021The Royals optioned O'Hearn to their alternate training site Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since Carlos Santana and Jorge Soler are expected to handle everyday roles at first base and designated hitter, respectively, O'Hearn offers limited value to the Royals as a first baseman with no positional flexibility. He'll continue to play regularly in simulated games at the alternate site before reporting to Triple-A Omaha in May for the start of the minor-league season.
Mar 4 2021O'Hearn went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has put on quite a display of power early on this spring, slugging three homers in four exhibition games. He's unlikely to find significant playing time once the regular season starts due to the addition of Carlos Santana, though he is making the case for a bench spot with his early performance.
Sep 9 2020O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sitting against a right-handed starting pitcher for the second straight game, O'Hearn seems to have surrendered primary duties at first base to Hunter Dozier. The 27-year-old has gone 1-for-24 at the dish over his last eight games, dropping his season-long slash line to .206/.310/.320.
Sep 4 2020O'Hearn is not starting Friday against the White Sox, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has just a .654 OPS this season, a near match for his .650 mark from last year. Hunter Dozier again moves in to play first base Friday, with Whit Merrifield sliding over to right field and Edward Olivares starting in center.
Sep 2 2020O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn typically doesn't sit out against right-handers like Cleveland's Triston McKenzie, but manager Mike Matheny may have just wanted to give the 27-year-old a day to clear his head after he went 0-for-12 with six strikeouts over the previous three games. Ryan McBroom will bat fifth for Kansas City and will spell O'Hearn at first base.
Aug 29 2020O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, two RBI and a walk during Saturday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn went without a homer through his first 21 games of the season, but he now has two in the past four games. The 27-year-old has a .260/.360/.411 slash line with five doubles, six runs and 17 RBI in 25 games.
Aug 25 2020O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has struggled to generate run production, especially lately. He entered Tuesday with one hit, two RBI and zero runs scored in his last 18 at-bats (seven games). O'Hearn ceded a start at first base to Hunter Dozier last weekend, but the Royals clearly have not lost all patience, so expect to continue seeing O'Hearn in the heart of the order against right-handed pitching.
Aug 23 2020O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: On the bench for the second straight day, O'Hearn's status as the Royals' top first baseman may be on thin ice. He's supplied an uninspiring .613 OPS on the season, and that mark has dropped all the way to .484 over his last 10 games. Hunter Dozier replaces O'Hearn at first base in the series finale.
Aug 22 2020O'Hearn is not starting Saturday against the Twins, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It is uncommon for O'Hearn to sit against a right-hander but after only coming up with one hit in his last 16 at-bats, he will get a breather as Ryan McBroom will get the start at first base in his absence.
Aug 17 2020O'Hearn is not starting Monday against Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn sits with lefty Devin Smeltzer expected to follow right-handed opener Matt Wisler. Ryan McBroom starts at first base in his absence.
Aug 15 2020O'Hearn isn't in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since returning from a shin injury Tuesday, O'Hearn has gone 2-for-8 with a double, two RBI and two strikeouts. Ryan McBroom will take over at first base in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Aug 11 2020O'Hearn (shin) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds, batting fifth and playing first base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn left Saturday's game against the Twins after fouling a ball off his shin and did not take part in Sunday's contest. He's ready to go now following Monday's off day.
Aug 9 2020O'Hearn (shin) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn exited early in Saturday's win after fouling a ball off his right shin, so he'll get some extra time to heal up from the injury while Hunter Dozier spells him at first base. With a team off day coming Monday, O'Hearn could be good to go when the Royals return to action Tuesday in Cincinnati.
Aug 8 2020O'Hearn was removed from Saturday's game against the Twins with a right shin contusion, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old fouled a pitch off his right shin and initially stayed in the game after being evaluated by the athletic trainer, but he was lifted following the fourth inning. O'Hearn should be considered day-to-day since the removal was considered a precautionary move.
Aug 7 2020O'Hearn is not in the lineup Friday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn started the past four games and went 3-for-15 with two doubles and two RBI, but he'll head to the bench with lefty Devin Smeltzer pitching Friday for the Twins. Ryan McBroom will start at first base and bat cleanup for Kansas City.
Aug 2 2020O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is usually a fixture in the lineup against righties like Chicago's Dylan Cease, but he'll exit the lineup to make room for Salvador Perez, who is getting a day off behind the plate and starting at first base instead. Since being activated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday, O'Hearn has gone 6-for-18 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and five RBI.
Jul 31 2020O'Hearn isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn had started in three of the past four games, but he'll take a seat Friday after generating an RBI in Thursday's contest. Ryan McBroom will take over at first base and bat sixth.
Jul 29 2020O'Hearn will not start Wednesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn missed the Royals' first series of the season as his preseason preparation was delayed by a positive COVID-19 test, but he was in the lineup for the first two games of this week, going 2-for-7 with a pair of RBI. He'll get the day off Wednesday, with Ryan McBroom starting at first base.
Jul 27 2020O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 14-6 win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn made his season debut after being activated off the COVID-19 injury list prior to Monday's contest and quickly made an impact at the plate; his two-run single in the fifth inning proved to be the go-ahead knock. The 26-year-old should be the Royals' everyday first baseman as he looks to improve on his .195/.281/.369 slash line from 2019.
Jul 22 2020O'Hearn (illness) has resumed baseball activities, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn tested positive for COVID-19 in early July, but he appears to be on the right track as he's been cleared to take part in baseball activities. Although he hasn't been activated from the COVID-19 injured list, the 26-year-old will work out at the satellite camp as he works to return to full strength, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. If O'Hearn isn't ready to take the field for Opening Day on Friday, Ryan McBroom could take over at first base.
Jul 15 2020The Royals placed O'Hearn (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn and starting pitcher Brad Keller were both moved to the IL just a few days after they were revealed to have tested positive for the coronavirus, while Salvador Perez was activated from the COVID-19 IL after clearing all health-related protocols. Before he's able to rejoin the Royals for workouts, O'Hearn will need to test negative for COVID-19 on two occasions while he remains in quarantine. Unless he's back with the Royals by the end of the week, O'Hearn may have a tough time gaining clearance for the team's July 24 season opener versus the Indians.
Jul 7 2020O'Hearn tested positive for coronavirus Tuesday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn is reportedly asymptomatic, but he'll nevertheless have to isolate until he tests negative twice. If he remains asymptomatic, he'll at least be able to stay in shape while quarantined, but the loss of practice time could still keep him from being ready to play on Opening Day, which is less than three weeks away.
Mar 18 2020Manager Mike Matheny said March 6 that O'Hearn could begin the season in a "soft platoon" at first base with Ryan McBroom, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn burst onto the scene with a .950 OPS and 12 home runs over 44 games in 2018, but he struggled in a larger role last season with a .650 OPS and 14 homers in 105 contests. The 26-year-old was impressive prior to the suspension of spring training, posting a .343/.395/.679 slash line with five home runs in 35 at-bats, though McBroom also had a .314/.368/.657 slash line. O'Hearn would be in the strong side of the platoon as the left-handed bat, so he would still be in line for regular at-bats if Matheny employs that strategy.
Dec 11 2019Manager Mike Matheny said Tuesday that O'Hearn will be under consideration for the Royals' everyday job at first base this spring, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with O'Hearn, the Royals are also expected to give Ryan McBroom the chance to battle for the job, while Hunter Dozier and Salvador Perez (elbow) could also see work at the position when they aren't playing third base or catcher, respectively. After a hot start to his big-league career upon being promoted from Triple-A Omaha in the second half of 2018, O'Hearn struggled mightily last season, slashing just .195/.281/.369 with 14 home runs in 370 plate appearances. O'Hearn will at least have the platoon advantage working in his favor in the competition, as McBroom, Dozier and Perez all hit from the right side of the plate.
Sep 29 2019O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has a .794 OPS over 21 games in September but will sit for the second straight contest with lefty Martin Perez taking the mound for the Twins. Cheslor Cuthbert receives the start at first base in the season finale.
Sep 28 2019O'Hearn is not in Saturday's lineup against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is hitting .222 with one home run over his last 10 games. Cheslor Cuthbert is starting at first base and hitting fifth.
Sep 22 2019O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 12-5 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His two-run shot in the sixth inning off Jose Berrios tied the game at 5-5, setting the stage for a seven-run eruption by the Kansas City offense in the ninth. O'Hearn had gone 0-for-17 with 11 strikeouts over his prior seven games, and on the year he's slashing only .190/.279/.365 with 14 homers and 34 RBI through 99 contests.
Sep 19 2019O'Hearn is not in Thursday's lineup against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He heads to the bench even with the Royals facing a righty (Kyle Gibson) in this one. Ryan McBroom will start at first base and hit sixth.
Sep 17 2019O'Hearn will hit the bench Tuesday against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn sits with lefty Brett Anderson starting for the Athletics. Cheslor Cuthbert gets the nod at first base.
Sep 15 2019O'Hearn will sit Sunday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn hits the bench with lefty Wade Miley on the mound for the Astros. Cheslor Cuthbert gets the start at first base.
Sep 7 2019O'Hearn will sit against lefty Caleb Smith and the Marlins on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Hearn has started against just one of the last 21 lefties the Royals have faced. Ryan McBroom starts at first base Saturday.
Aug 30 2019O'Hearn is not in the lineup Friday against the Orioles.
Aug 28 2019O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the A's.
Aug 26 2019O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs, two walks and an additional run Sunday in the Royals' 9-8 win over the Indians in 10 innings.
Aug 19 2019O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles.
Aug 18 2019O'Hearn will start at first base and bat fifth Sunday against the Mets.
Aug 6 2019O'Hearn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Aug 4 2019O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Mar 21 2018O'Hearn was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Maria Torres of The Kansas City Star reports. The 24-year-old was initially brought up in the conversation for the Royals' starting gig at first base, but the signing of Lucas Duda earlier this spring largely ended those talks. O'Hearn will now head back to Triple-A Omaha to start the season. He batted .252 with 18 homers in 114 games at that level last season.
Sep 14 2017O'Hearn ended a disappointing 2017, a campaign that included a demotion, with a .253/.330/.455 slash line over a combined 133 games at Double- and Triple-A.The 24-year-old hit .252 with 119 strikeouts through 114 games with Triple-A Omaha before being sent down to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. O'Hearn did manage to compile 22 home runs and 64 RBI during 2017, but failing to make it through his first season at Triple-A was a huge bummer. With Eric Hosmer expected to be lost in free agency this offseason, O'Hearn could have a chance to regain the faith of management next spring.
Aug 14 2017O'Hearn was demoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.O'Hearn has held his own at Triple-A this season -- slashing .252/.325/.450 with 18 homers in 114 games -- but with Paulo Orlando, Frank Schwindel and Hunter Dozier all in need of at-bats with Omaha at the moment, the Royals' prospect will drop down a level to assure he continues to see playing time of his own. The 24-year-old will likely be back with the Storm Chasers when another spot opens up on the roster.
May 11 2017O'Hearn said he gained a lot of confidence from his production last season, as well as getting the chance to join the Royals in spring training for a while this year, Tony Boone of the Omaha World-Herald reports. The first baseman is slashing .262/.325/.486 with six home runs and 14 RBI through his first 28 games at the Triple-A level. With Eric Hosmer widely thought to be on his way out (whether via trade or free agency), O'Hearn is not far from making his MLB debut. "You know it's there. It's been there," O'Hearn said. "Everybody knows Hosmer is going to be a free agent, and we don't know if he's going to be a Royal anymore or not. It's really out of my control. All I can do is play every day here, play as hard as I can and try to continue to get better and progress." The 23-year-old admitted he could use some work to improve his defensively, but didn't hesitate in adding that he feels ready to compete at the MLB level.
