Apr 5 2023 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a run scored and his second stolen base of the season in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old led off the game with a single and promptly swiped second base. Acuna already has two homers and two steals in five games to begin the season along with a .364 (8-for-22) batting average, and talk of a 30/30 or even 40/40 season will only grow louder if he continues flashing his power and speed at this pace. |
Apr 4 2023 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over St. Louis. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His second-inning blast off Jake Woodford was Acuna's second homer in four games to begin the season. The 25-year-old is off to a great start to 2023, going 6-for-17 (.353) with half of his hits going for extra bases, four RBI, four runs and a steal. If he stays healthy, Acuna could wind up figuring prominently in the NL MVP race. |
Apr 1 2023 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta's hitters set the tone for the afternoon early, as Acuna and Matt Olson launched back-to-back homers in the game's first six pitches. It was the first home run of the season for Acuna and the 27th leadoff blast of his career, the second-highest total since the 25-year-old entered the league in 2018, trailing only George Springer's 34. After hitting only 15 homers in 119 games last season in his return from ACL surgery, Acuna could be primed for a huge year in the power categories. |
Mar 30 2023 | Acuna hit two singles and recorded a stolen base in Atlanta's defeat of the Nationals on Thursday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna went as the No. 1 overall pick in some fantasy drafts this spring and he started his 2023 campaign on a high note Thursday afternoon in Washington. The dynamic 25-year-old outfielder is looking more and more spry the further away he gets from that devastating knee injury in the summer of 2021. He seems poised for a monstrous season of category-covering production. |
Jan 21 2023 | Acuna wanted to represent Venezuela at the upcoming World Baseball Classic but doesn't expect to do so, following the advice of doctors and of Atlanta's training staff, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The news could be seen as evidence that the team still doesn't fully trust Acuna's health even though 18 months have passed since he tore his ACL, though it's probably unwise to read too much into the decision. While it's true that some superstars with injury histories will participate in the tournament, with Mike Trout being the most notable example, it's certainly not universal. Atlanta understandably wants Acuna to focus on being the best version of himself for the regular season. After returning from surgery in late April of last year, Acuna's speed didn't seem affected, as he stole 29 bases in 119 games, but his .266/.351/.413 slash line and 15 home runs were below his usual standards. |
Oct 12 2022 | Acuna "feels good" after taking a pitch off his right elbow during Wednesday's win over the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLDS, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was able to stay in the game even though he was clearly in a lot of pain. The Braves still might keep half an eye on Acuna's elbow for the next couple of days, but there doesn't seem to be any significant damage. He will more than likely be able to start Friday in Game 3. |
Oct 5 2022 | Acuna isn't starting Wednesday against Miami. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has gone just 1-for-10 with a run, an RBI, a stolen base, three walks and four strikeouts over the last three games, and he'll rest during Wednesday's regular-season finale. Robbie Grossman will take over in right field and bat seventh. |
Oct 4 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, two walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna ripped an RBI single off Braxton Garrett in the top of the second frame before swiping second base. He later added two walks to his line. The stolen base was his 29th of the year and first since Sept. 13. Acuna came into Tuesday's contest having gone 3-for-20 with six strikeouts and no RBI in his last five games, so he'll look to build off the performance as Atlanta heads into the playoffs. |
Sep 28 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After missing a few games late last week with back trouble, Acuna came off the bench for a key hit Sunday and appeared to be 100 percent healthy Tuesday as he launched his 14th and 15th homers of the year. The 24-year-old is slashing just .256/.304/.477 through 92 plate appearances in September, but he could be gearing up for a big finish to the regular season as Atlanta tries to win its fifth straight NL East crown. |
Sep 26 2022 | Acuna (back) will start in right field and bat leadoff Monday against the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna had been out of the lineup for each of Atlanta's last four games with mid-back tightness, but he always appeared to be a good bet to start in Monday's series opener in Washington after he logged two plate appearances off the bench in Sunday's 8-7 win over Philadelphia in 11 innings. The fact that Atlanta is deploying Acuna at right field Monday rather than designated hitter seemingly supports that notion, and so long as he avoids any setbacks in his return to the lineup, he should be a mainstay in the starting nine throughout the week as the team looks to chase down the Mets for the National League East title. |
Sep 25 2022 | Acuna (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the fourth straight game on the bench for Acuna as he continues to manage mid-back tightness. Robbie Grossman will again shift to right field while Eddie Rosario starts in left. |
Sep 24 2022 | Acuna (back) isn't starting Saturday against Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna is still dealing with a back injury Saturday, and he'll be excluded from the lineup for a third consecutive game. Robbie Grossman will remain in right field and bat ninth. |
Sep 23 2022 | Acuna (back) isn't starting Friday against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to mid-back tightness, and he'll remain on the bench for a second consecutive game Friday. He's listed as day-to-day for now. Robbie Grossman will start in right field and bat ninth. |
Sep 22 2022 | Acuna was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Phillies due to mid-back tightness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was removed from the lineup approximately half an hour before the start of Thursday's matchup, and it's unclear whether he'll be available off the bench. Robbie Grossman will shift to right field while Marcell Ozuna enters the lineup in left. |
Sep 17 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was Aaron Nola's biggest nemesis Saturday. In the third inning, Acuna popped a two-run home run, and he plated another pair of runs with a fourth-inning double. This was the outfielder's third multi-hit effort in his last five games, and he's gone yard in each of his last two contests. For the season, he's up to 13 homers, 28 stolen bases, 22 doubles, 45 RBI and 64 runs scored while maintaining a .271/.358/.417 slash line across 106 games. |
Aug 31 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna missed three games with right knee discomfort, but he was able to rejoin the lineup as Atlanta's designated hitter Wednesday. The superstar outfielder looked healthy enough when he launched a 444-foot homer to center field in the fifth inning. The long ball was his first in the past 13 games and his 11th of the campaign overall. Acuna's power has dipped pretty significantly this season, but he's continued to produce fantasy value with 25 steals and a .274/.366/.413 slash line. |
Aug 30 2022 | Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Acuna, who is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies for a third straight game, is responding well to treatment for his sore right knee and is considered day-to-day, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Snitker suggested that Acuna's continued absence is out of an abundance of caution, with the skipper noting that he wouldn't hesitate to include the 24-year-old in the lineup if Atlanta was playing a postseason game. Acuna will be re-evaluated early Wednesday, and if he continues to show progress in his recovery from the knee injury, he could be included in the lineup later that night. |
Aug 28 2022 | Acuna (knee), who isn't starting Sunday against the Cardinals, expects to return to Atlanta's lineup Tuesday against the Rockies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Sunday but is expected to be available off the bench. However, the 24-year-old should be back in action for Tuesday's series opener following a two-game absence. Over his last five games, he's hit .318 with a double, three runs, three RBI, two walks and five strikeouts. |
Aug 27 2022 | Acuna isn't starting Saturday against the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta hasn't given any indication that Acuna's absence from Saturday's lineup is due to an injury, but he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday against St. Louis. Guillermo Heredia will start in right field and bat ninth Saturday. |
Aug 22 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with one double in Monday's win over the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The All Star added two hits to what has been a great month of August. Acuna is now hitting .325 in the month after hitting .259 up to that point. His season-long line of .274/.367/.412 is not what fantasy managers have come to expect from the phenom, but his 25 steals are good for second in the majors, impressive given that he has played in just 88 games. |
Aug 16 2022 | Acuna (knee) went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI and two runs in Monday's 13-1 win over the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After sitting out Sunday's 3-1 win over the Marlins while managing a sore knee, Acuna returned to the lineup with a bang Monday. The performance was a continuance of what's been a huge August for Acuna, who is hitting .377 with seven extra-base hits (two home runs, five doubles), 11 runs, nine RBI and three stolen bases in 14 games on the month. |
Aug 15 2022 | Acuna (knee) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A sore knee prevented Acuna from starting Sunday's game, but he did pinch hit in the ninth inning and remained in the game after drawing a walk. As he regularly does, Acuna will man right field and hit leadoff Monday night. |
Aug 14 2022 | Acuna (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna had a shot to start Sunday despite his early exit from Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, but it turns out he will open the contest on the bench. Robbie Grossman will take Acuna's spot in right field, and Dansby Swanson will replace him atop the batting order. |
Aug 13 2022 | Acuna (knee) will not be placed on the injured list and could be in the lineup Sunday against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna exited the second game of Atlanta's doubleheader against the Marlins in the seventh inning as a precaution due to soreness in his right knee. Manager Brian Snitker noted that the turf at LoanDepot Park played a role in Acuna's removal and generally downplayed the severity of the issue. |
Aug 9 2022 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one steal in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With three hits Tuesday, Acuna has recorded two or more hits in three out of his last four starts, as he shows signs of heating up at the dish. The streak has raised has average 17 points, up from .256 on August 4. The superstar also stole his 24th bag, showing that the worst of his knee ailments may be behind him. |
Aug 7 2022 | Acuna was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Mets due to lower body soreness, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's removal is a precautionary move from Atlanta given the rain and wet conditions Sunday in New York. The 24-year-old seems likely to be back in action for Tuesday's series opener versus the Red Sox. Robbie Grossman will take over in right field while Dansby Swanson moves up to the leadoff spot. |
Aug 5 2022 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 9-6 win over the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna ripped four singles Friday, including one off of Taijuan Walker in the second inning before swiping second base and scoring a run. He's now stolen 23 bags in 30 attempts on the year. His big day improved his season slash line to .266/.361/.403 with 43 runs scored and 20 extra-base hits through 71 games. However, since the start of July, Acuna has gone 27-for-111 (.243). |
Aug 4 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna provided Atlanta's biggest hit of the game in the fifth inning. Prior to Thursday, he had just one homer in his last 29 contests, and he hit a meager .221 in that span. He's slashing .256/.354/.396 with nine long balls, 26 RBI, 42 runs scored and 22 stolen bases through 70 games overall. Acuna will likely need more than one game to put this slump behind him, but getting his power swing back would be a big step forward after a quiet month-plus. |
Jul 27 2022 | Acuna isn't starting Wednesday against Philadelphia, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna is getting a rare day off after he hit .160 with a double, a run, an RBI, a stolen base, three walks and six strikeouts over the last six games. Eddie Rosario is taking over in right field and batting fifth. |
Jul 26 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The steal was Acuna's 21st of the year, eight of which have come in July. The 24-year-old has otherwise struggled this month, slashing .228/.344/.304 with one homer, five RBI and 11 runs through 20 games, but the superstar is unlikely to continue slumping at the plate much longer -- he posted a .279/.351/.477 line over 21 games in June. |
Jul 16 2022 | Acuna will sit Saturday against Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna had some extra days off early on in his return from knee surgery, but he's handled a star player's typical heavy workload in recent weeks. Saturday's off day marks his first time out of the lineup thus far in July. Adam Duvall will start in right field and bat sixth while Dansby Swanson gets bumped up to the leadoff spot. |
Jul 14 2022 | Acuna went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in a 5-4 win Thursday in Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna walked, stole second and scored in the first inning. The stolen base was his sixth this month and 19th of the season in 25 attempts. He has walked in five of his last six games and owns a .369 OBP for the year. While his power numbers are down significantly compared to his first four seasons, the 24-year-old is still finding ways to get on base and is stealing bases more frequently than any other point in his big-league career. |
Jul 9 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His second-inning blast off Erick Fedde gave Atlanta a 6-0 lead as the team rolled to a 12-run outburst. Acuna hadn't homered since June 21, missing five games during that stretch with a foot issue, but on the season the 24-year-old is still slashing .275/.368/.440 with eight home runs, 17 steals, 22 RBI and 35 runs in 51 games. |
Jul 6 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The steal was his 17th in only 48 games this season, as Acuna continues to prove his knee is fully recovered from last year's injury. His power numbers haven't quite bounced back yet, but the 24-year-old superstar still sports a .285/.382/.446 slash line with seven homers, 19 RBI and 33 runs. |
Jul 3 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases in a 4-3 loss to the Reds on Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's two-steals effort gives him 15 total on the season and places him among the top 10 in the majors. His willingness to run is a good sign after having recently been sidelined with a minor foot injury. Acuna had a career-high 37 stolen bases in 2019 and if he stays healthy for the rest of the season he could break that personal record. |
Jul 2 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-3 with two hit-by-pitches and two runs scored in Friday's 9-1 rout of the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a painful return from a four-game absence for Acuna, who had been out with a minor foot injury. Cincinnati hurlers plunked batters four times in total on the night, which could result in some retaliation later this weekend, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Acuna get Saturday off as Atlanta continues to treat the 24-year-old superstar with kid gloves in an effort to keep him healthy. |
Jul 1 2022 | Acuna is starting at designated hitter and batting leadoff Friday versus the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna is back in the lineup after missing four games with a foot injury. The 24-year-old will likely operate as the DH for a few days before he returns the field, as Atlanta has been cautious with his health since his return from last year's knee injury. |
Jun 30 2022 | Acuna (foot) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has missed four consecutive games after fouling a ball off his foot Saturday. However, he was available to pinch hit during Thursday's game against the Phillies and has apparently progressed enough to return to the top of Atlanta's lineup Friday. |
Jun 29 2022 | Acuna (foot) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna fouled a ball off his foot Saturday against the Dodgers and isn't dealing with a fracture, but he'll be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. The 24-year-old stayed in Atlanta to receive treatment while the team traveled to Philadelphia on Tuesday. His foot has improved, and he'll rejoin the team Thursday, but he might not return to the lineup until Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Adam Duvall is shifting to right field while Marcell Ozuna starts in left Wednesday. |
Jun 28 2022 | Acuna (foot) remained in Atlanta for treatment while his teammates travelled to Philadelphia on Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna left Saturday's game against the Dodgers after fouling a ball off his foot and will miss at least two games. While he avoided a fracture, his expected return date is unclear, and this latest report indicates that the issue is serious enough for him to remain home for extra treatment. Manager Brian Snitker indicated his star outfielder could be back with his teammates as soon as Wednesday, however. |
Jun 26 2022 | Acuna, who is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, isn't dealing with a fracture but can't put much pressure on his left foot, and he hopes to be cleared to play within the next couple days, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old isn't sporting a protective boot or crutches after fouling a ball off his foot Saturday, though he did enter the clubhouse Sunday using a medical scooter. Acuna appears to have avoided a serious injury, but how he progresses over the next couple days should dictate whether or not he'll require a brief trip to the injured list. |
Jun 25 2022 | Acuna left Saturday's victory over the Dodgers early after fouling a ball off his foot, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was replaced in the field by Guillermo Heredia in the top of the ninth inning after he fouled a ball off his foot earlier in the game. Manager Brian Snitker said after the game that he was removed for precautionary reasons and did not suffer a fracture. Acuna can be considered day-to-day heading into Sunday's series finale. |
Jun 23 2022 | Acuna is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be one of three Atlanta regulars sitting out in a day game after a night game, as Adam Duvall and Austin Riley are also joining Acuna on the bench. Acuna had started in every contest for Atlanta since June 2, slashing .266/.337/.481 with five home runs and three stolen bases over that 19-game stretch. |
Jun 22 2022 | Acuna went three-for-five with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in a 12-10 loss to the Giants on Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has been excellent since being activated from the injured list with a long-term knee injury at the end of April. The 24-year-old star right fielder now has five home runs in June and is slashing .282/.375/.468 on the season. His elevated OBP suggests that he is seeing the ball well and he'll obviously continue to sit atop the Braves' quality lineup. |
Jun 11 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a hit by pitch and an additional run scored in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna opened the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot off Zach Thompson. Four of Acuna's six homers this season have come in his last six games, a span in which he's gone 10-for-23 (.435). The outfielder owns a strong .316/.411/.538 slash line with 16 RBI, 24 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 31 contests. |
Jun 8 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with two homers, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Athletics. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, then hit another solo shot in the third. He went nearly a month without a home run, but he has now hit three in his last two games. Despite what many would consider a disappointing home run total for the righty in 2022 even amid his time off due to injury, Acuna is slashing an excellent .320/.411/.534. |
Jun 5 2022 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a stolen base and three total runs scored in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through four games in June, Acuna has three multi-hit efforts, going 8-for-18 (.444) in that span. His first three hits were singles, but his fourth one was an important solo shot in the eighth, which provided Atlanta with just enough insurance to get the win. The 24-year-old superstar owns an excellent .313/.408/.475 slash line with three homers, 10 steals, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored through 26 contests this year. |
Jun 2 2022 | Acuna (general soreness) is starting Thursday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was held out of Wednesday's lineup since he was feeling sore following Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks, but he'll serve as the designated hitter and lead off a day later. Over his last four games, the 24-year-old has gone 3-for-15 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. |
Jun 1 2022 | Atlanta elected to withhold Acuna from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona after he felt sore following Tuesday's 8-7 loss, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution repots. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's absence from the lineup initially looked to be a case of him getting a breather for a day game after a night game, but he's apparently not feeling 100 percent as Atlanta wraps up its series at Chase Field. The club hasn't indicated that Acuna is feeling soreness in his surgically repaired right knee, nor his right quadriceps, which kept him on the bench for three straight games at one point last week. Acuna is being labeled as day-to-day, and Atlanta is seemingly hopeful that the 24-year-old will be back in action for Thursday's series opener in Colorado. |
May 29 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old continues to go out of his way to prove to everyone that his knee is 100 percent. Acuna now has nine steals in nine attempts in only 19 games since making his belated season debut to go along with a .304/.412/.464 slash line, two homers, nine RBI and 11 runs. |
May 28 2022 | Acuna (quadriceps) is starting Saturday against the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was out of the lineup for the last three games, but he appeared as a pinch hitter Friday and went 1-for-1 with a double, a run and an RBI. He'll serve as the designated hitter and lead off against Miami on Saturday. |
May 26 2022 | Acuna (quadriceps) will not be in the lineup Friday against Miami, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's absence will extend to three games as he continues to get treatment for his strained quadriceps. There is still no indication that Acuna will land on the injured list, though he has consistently dealt with lower-body injuries early in the campaign. Guillermo Heredia figures to remain in the lineup in Acuna's place. |
May 25 2022 | Manager Brian Snitker said Acuna was diagnosed with a Grade 1 right quadriceps strain and is expected to be out of the lineup Thursday against the Phillies, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to the injury, and it appears he'll be sidelined for at least one more game. Acuna has also dealt with groin tightness since being activated from the injured list in late April, and Atlanta is likely to be cautious to avoid rushing him back given he's fresh off an ACL injury. Travis Demeritte and Guillermo Heredia are the likely options to see more playing time in his absence. |
May 21 2022 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and a stolen base in a 4-3 win over the Marlins on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's steal of third base in the sixth inning marked the sixth game over his past seven contests in which he hast stolen a bag. Over that stretch, he is batting .375 with a homer, nine walks, eight runs and six thefts. Acuna didn't play his first game of the season until April 28, but he already has eight steals, tied for sixth-most leaguewide. |
May 18 2022 | Acuna will start in right field and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna returned to the lineup for Tuesday's 3-0 win as a designated hitter after missing the previous five games with a sore groin. The groin issue didn't seem to inhibit Acuna at the plate or on the basepaths, as he reached base three times on the night and recorded his sixth stolen base of the season. His return to the outfield for the day game after a night game suggests Atlanta is comfortable with his health. |
May 17 2022 | Acuna (groin) will bat leadoff and serve as Atlanta's designated hitter in Tuesday's game in Milwaukee. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As anticipated, Acuna will put an end to his five-game absence and slot back into his normal spot in the Atlanta lineup, albeit in a non-defensive role. Atlanta could be inclined to deploy Acuna more frequently at DH more the next few days while he looks to move past the sore left groin, but playing through the lower-body injury shouldn't necessarily limit his involvement on the basepaths. After returning from the injured list in late April following a prolonged recovery from the ACL surgery he underwent last July, Acuna proceeded to go 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts in his first 10 games with Atlanta before the groin issue forced him to the bench over the last several days. |
May 16 2022 | Manager Brian Snitker said that Acuna (groin), who isn't starting Monday against the Brewers, will likely play Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will be out of the lineup for a fifth consecutive game Monday, but he passed all the tests the team gave him while running the bases and participating in other exercises. While the team doctors will monitor how he feels following Monday's workout, he appears to be on track to avoid a trip to the injured list. |
May 15 2022 | Acuna (groin) is not in Sunday's lineup against the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His MRI didn't reveal anything that would lead Atlanta to shut him down, but he still feels discomfort when he runs and slides, so it's not surprising that he is out of action for Sunday morning's game. The team says it's his groin, not his surgically repaired knee, that is giving him trouble. Travis Demeritte will pick up another start in place of Acuna. |
May 14 2022 | Atlanta got the "best news possible" regarding the MRI on Acuna's groin Saturday, according to manager Brian Snitker, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "He's just going to be day-to-day. I don't know how long it will be. But there's nothing from the MRI that showed he's going to be shut down," Snitker said. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Apparently Acuna is experiencing discomfort when he runs and slides on the basepaths, which led to Saturday's MRI. His surgically-repaired knee is reportedly not a problem at all. William Contreras got a start at designated hitter with Acuna out of the lineup. |
May 13 2022 | Acuna (groin) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was held out of the lineup Wednesday due to soreness in his left groin, and he'll remain on the bench coming off Atlanta's scheduled day off Thursday. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Acuna said he feels fine and expected to be back in the lineup Saturday.. Marcell Ozuna will shift to the outfield in his absence while William Contreras serves as the designated hitter. |
May 11 2022 | Acuna's absence from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox is due to a sore groin, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta doesn't seem especially concerned about the groin issue, as manager Brian Snitker said that he thinks that Acuna will be ready to play in Friday's game against the Padres by sitting out Wednesday and then benefiting from Thursday's team off day, according to O'Brien. Orlando Arcia will pick up a start as Atlanta's designated hitter in place of Acuna, who has posted an excellent .878 OPS and has gone 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts in 10 games since making his season debut April 28. However, Acuna has struck out in 37 percent of his plate appearances, which is a major increase from his career-long rate (26.1 percent). |
May 8 2022 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI, a stolen base, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 9-2 win over Milwaukee. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has reached base in all nine of his games since making his season debut, and he's now posted back-to-back multi-hit performances. Over his nine games in 2022, the 24-year-old has slashed .278/.366/.500 with two homers, two doubles, five RBI, three runs and four stolen bases. |
May 7 2022 | Acuna will lead off and play right field Saturday against the Brewers, marking the first time he's played the field in consecutive games since returning from his torn ACL, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna returned from the injured list April 28, a bit before he was expected to. Atlanta treated him cautiously at first, giving him two off days and three starts at designated hitter in the first nine games since his return, but it looks like he may be close to reclaiming his role as the everyday right fielder going forward. He hasn't looked like himself at the plate thus far following his long absence, as he's hit just .207/.281/.345 with a 40.6 percent strikeout rate through seven games, but it's probably only a matter of time before he gets his timing back. |
May 3 2022 | Acuna is out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna is now sitting for the second time in six games since he was reinstated from the 10-day injured list last Thursday, but the rest days should become less frequent for the 24-year-old as he becomes further removed from the ACL tear he suffered last July. Guillermo Heredia will pick up a start in the outfield in place of Acuna, who has gone 3-for-17 with a walk, two stolen bases and an RBI since returning to action. Expect Acuna to re-enter the lineup for the nightcap Tuesday. |
Apr 25 2022 | Acuna (knee) is scheduled to make his next rehab appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna played in his fifth rehab game with Gwinnett on Sunday and has continued to excel during the minor-league assignment. In addition to raking at the plate with a .357/.550/.429 slash line and 6:4 BB:K, Acuna hasn't shown any hesitation about testing his surgically repaired right knee on the bases, as he's nabbed three steals in as many attempts. He'll get a couple days of rest before playing seven innings in right field Wednesday and nine innings in the outfield Thursday in what could be his final two games with Gwinnett. If Acuna checks out fine after playing back-to-back days, Atlanta could be compelled to bring him back from the 10-day injured list for its weekend series in Texas against the Rangers. Atlanta initially set May 6 as a target date for Acuna's return, but based on how well he's fared on his rehab assignment thus far, sometime between Friday and next Monday now looks like a realistic range for the star outfielder to make his season debut for the big club. |
Apr 20 2022 | Acuna (knee) went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run Wednesday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After playing five innings in right field and going 1-for-3 with a double Tuesday in his first rehab game for Gwinnett, Acuna was back in the lineup for the affiliate a day later, albeit as the designated hitter. He ended up playing the entire game and showed off his wheels by stealing second base after reaching on a walk in his second plate appearance. Acuna said in spring training that he felt close to 100 percent recovered from the torn ACL he suffered last July, and while the stolen base he notched Wednesday seemingly supports that notion, the organization may want to see him play a full nine innings in the outfield on back-to-back days before activating him from the 10-day injured list. For now, Atlanta is viewing May 6 as a tentative target date for Acuna's season debut in the majors, but that timeline could be pushed up if the 24-year-old looks better than anticipated during the rehab assignment. |
Apr 19 2022 | Acuna (knee) will begin his rehab assignment for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday and will bat leadoff and play right field in his first game. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna is in the final stages of his recovery from right knee surgery, a procedure he underwent after tearing his ACL last July. Atlanta is tentatively targeting May 6 for his return. While the team will likely give him a handful of appearances at designated hitter to ease him back into action, the fact that he's beginning his rehab assignment by playing the field is seemingly a positive sign. |
Apr 18 2022 | Acuna (knee) could make his season debut as soon as May 6 if he has no setbacks during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett that begins Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The superstar outfielder is in the final stages of his recovery from ACL surgery and hasn't seen game action since early July last year, so Atlanta isn't going to rush Acuna back into the lineup. "I'm sure he's excited to play a real game under lights and all that," manager Brian Snitker said Monday. "We're winding down to where we can get him back. It's gonna be some kind of boost for this club when he gets back in the top of that order." Acuna could be used as a designated hitter when he returns to ease him back into action, but Snitker's comments make it clear he'll be hitting in a prime spot in the batting order regardless of his defensive assignment. |
Apr 17 2022 | Acuna (knee) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has been on the 10-day injured list since the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from ACL surgery that forced him to miss the end of the 2021 season. The team has been optimistic that he'll be able to return in late April, and Tuesday's rehab assignment signals that he has a chance to meet that timetable. The 24-year-old will presumably require several rehab appearances before he's cleared to rejoin the major-league club, but he certainly seems to be trending toward his 2022 debut. |
Apr 14 2022 | Acuna (knee) could begin a rehab assignment as early as April 18, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna has been projected to return in late April, initially serving as the team's designated hitter. He seemingly remains on track with that timeline, particularly because his rehab assignment could be relatively short if he is not immediately playing in the outfield. Eddie Rosario or Adam Duvall could be at risk to lose playing time upon Acuna's return. |
Apr 4 2022 | Atlanta placed Acuna (knee) on the 10-day injured list Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The superstar outfielder is making good progress in his recovery from ACL surgery, but he'll still be forced to miss the early portion of the 2022 campaign. Acuna is currently projected to return in late April and is expected to be eased back into action as the team's designated hitter until he's 100 percent healthy. Before suffering his knee injury last season, the 24-year-old produced a slash line of .283/.394/.596 with 24 homers, 72 runs, 52 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 82 games. |
Mar 23 2022 | Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopolous said Wednesday that Acuna (knee) will likely be ready to make his season debut in late April as a designated hitter before drawing starts in the outfield in early May, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will remain sidelined for the duration of Atlanta's Grapefruit League slate and is expected to stick around at extended spring training to continue rehabbing when the regular season begins, but the 24-year-old is seemingly right where the organization expects him to be in his recovery from ACL surgery. Though Acuna has said that he feels ready to play in games, the front office understandably prefers to take a more cautious approach with the team's most important player, who underwent the right knee procedure last July. Since incorporating more change-of-direction sprinting into his training regimen likely represents the final hurdle Acuna will need to clear before making his 2022 debut, Atlanta will ease him back into action as a DH, but he should be ready to reclaim his usual starting role in the outfield soon thereafter. Anthopolous previously indicated that late May was the initial target timeline for Acuna's return to the outfield, but after getting feedback from the training and medical staffs, the GM said Acuna will be cleared to resume defensive work sooner than expected. |
Mar 17 2022 | Acuna (knee) could return to game action as the designated hitter by April 21, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bowden cited Atlanta's general manager Alex Anthopoulos when making the report, in which he also stated that Acuna could play in the outfield by May 21. The latter portion of the timeline falls in line with expectations, which have consistently suggested that Acuna would return by late May. However, the implementation of the designated hitter in the National League could allow him to return prior to being 100 percent healthy. Until Acuna can handle defensive responsibilities on a regular basis, Atlanta will likely play Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall and Guillermo Heredia across the outfield. |
Mar 14 2022 | Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Monday that Acuna (knee) isn't expected to be ready to play the outfield until late May, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Reports from around the time Acuna tore his ACL last July suggested that he had at least a shot to be ready by Opening Day or soon thereafter, but more recent reports indicate that he's hoping to return sometime in May. While the introduction of the universal designated hitter means he can return before late May, that timeline gives a sense of when the team believes he'll be back at 100 percent. For what it's worth, Acuna said Monday that he thinks he's regained about 95 percent of his pre-injury strength and speed, according to Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. However, even though Acuna has said that he would play Opening Day if it were up to him, the decision ultimately isn't in his hands. |
Mar 13 2022 | Acuna (knee) is hoping he'll be cleared to return to game action in May, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in July of 2021, and his trainers said Sunday that the outfielder has been rehabbing and working out extensively this winter. The 24-year-old resumed on-field batting practice in mid-January, and he took swings in the cage this weekend as spring training gets underway. It wouldn't be surprising to see Atlanta exercise caution with Acuna's rehab as the season approaches to prevent an aggravation, but he's a candidate be utilized as a designated hitter early in the year if he isn't cleared to play the field. While Acuna will likely be sidelined for the first month of the regular season, he made encouraging progress in his recovery during the offseason. |
Jan 12 2022 | Acuna (knee) took on-field batting practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery in July to repair a torn ACL, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The activity marks the first meaningful milestone in the recovery process for Acuna, who will most likely be limited when hitters report to spring training in late February, should there be a resolution to the ongoing lockout. Whether Acuna is ready to go for Opening Day will likely hinge on whether he's able to run and change direction at full speed in the latter weeks of spring training. Regardless, Acuna at least seems to be progressing from the right knee injury on a normal schedule, though his uncertain timetable for making his 2022 debut will make him a risky early-round selection. Even if Acuna is deemed ready for the start of the season, he could scale back his involvement in the running game coming off surgery, after he stole 17 bases in 23 attempts through 82 games last season before suffering the knee injury. |
Jul 22 2021 | Acuna underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL on Wednesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will miss the remainder of the season after he suffered a torn right ACL on July 10, and he underwent a successful procedure in Los Angeles on Wednesday. It's not yet clear whether the 23-year-old will be ready for the start of spring training in 2022. |
Jul 11 2021 | Acuna (knee) was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A torn right ACL has ended the star outfielder's 2021 season, so this move frees up a 40-man roster spot for the Braves. Johan Camargo was recalled in a corresponding move. |
Jul 10 2021 | Acuna will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn right ACL during Saturday's game against Miami. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The injury initially appeared to be on the serious side, with the star outfielder needing to be carted off the field in pain after landing awkwardly while jumping for a fly ball. Atlanta was holding out hope that his MRI would reveal a less serious issue, but this diagnosis, unfortunately, represents a worst-case scenario for the 23-year-old. Acuna will be sidelined for the remainder of 2021 after undergoing surgery, and it remains to be seen if he'll be ready to participate in spring training come next February. |
Jul 7 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk and three runs scored in Wednesday's 14-3 beatdown of the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old's third-inning blast narrowed Pittsburgh's lead to 3-2, and he later crossed home a couple more times as Atlanta poured on the runs in the later innings. Acuna had hit an uncharacteristic .196 in 13 games leading up to Wednesday but appeared to get back on track in the afternoon blowout. His power has hardly dissipated, though, as he's now launched six homers in his last 17 games. |
Jul 4 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 8-7 extra-inning win over Miami. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The star outfielder opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the third inning. In the ninth, Acuna's sacrifice fly plated Ender Inciarte for the game-tying run to force an extra inning. Acuna has homered three times in his last seven games while adding six RBI and seven runs scored in that span. Overall, he's slashing .276/.386/.595 with 23 long balls, 51 RBI, 66 runs scored and 16 stolen bases as Atlanta's leadoff hitter. |
Jul 2 2021 | Acuna is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Miami after being scratched Thursday with a tight back. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was originally slated to leadoff Thursday against the Mets but was a late scratch. He wound up entering the game off the bench, recording a single and a walk during two plate appearances. The back issue has arisen twice in the past week, but it appears to be something the outfielder is able to work around for the time being. He'll bat leadoff as the right fielder Friday. |
Jul 1 2021 | Acuna was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Mets with back tightness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was originally in the lineup and leading off, though he was scratched just prior to first pitch. It's unclear how long he may be sidelined, but it's notable that he was sidelined with a similar issue within the past week. Ehire Adrianza will hit leadoff and play in right field in his place. |
Jun 27 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna got Atlanta on the board with a third-inning RBI double before crushed a 432-foot solo blast in the fifth. The 23-year-old star is slashing .282/.389/.602 with 21 homers in 71 games. It was just his fifth homer of the month and his first since June 21. |
Jun 25 2021 | Acuna (back) is starting in right field and batting leadoff Friday against the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was held out of the starting nine the past two days with tightness in his lower back, but he'll return to action Friday in Cincinnati. Acuna is 3-for-18 with eight strikeouts in his past seven appearances, though he still has a .903 OPS with two homers, a double, three walks and a stolen base over that stretch. |
Jun 24 2021 | Acuna (back) will be out of the lineup Thursday against the Reds, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was scratched from Wednesday's starting nine with lower-back tightness, and he'll sit for the second consecutive day due to the issue. He could return to action Friday if the injury shows some improvement. Ehire Adrianza started in his place Wednesday and could receive another look in right field for the series opener at Cincinnati. |
Jun 23 2021 | Acuna was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Mets with lower-back tightness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ehire Adrianza will step in as the right fielder while Acuna sits. More details about Acuna's condition and whether he'll play Thursday should become available following Wednesday's contest. |
Jun 22 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in a 1-0 win over the Mets during the second game of Monday's doubleheader. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fifth-inning blast off Miguel Castro gave Acuna 20 homers on the season. It was also the second straight day that he supplied the only offense in a game, as Acuna also went deep in a 1-0 win during the nightcap of Sunday's twin bill against the Cardinals. The 23-year-old superstar is slashing .309/.448/.603 through 20 contests in June with four home runs, nine steals, 12 RBI and 19 runs. |
Jun 20 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in a 1-0 win in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader with St. Louis. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's third inning homer to center was the only run in the entire game and proved to be all the support Atlanta starter Drew Smyly would need. The blast was Acuna's first since June 8 and was his 19th on the season which puts him alone at fifth in the bigs. |
Jun 17 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 4-0 over the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna marked up the score sheet Thursday, driving in one while also stealing a base and scoring. It was his third stolen base this past week totaling 14 on the season, enough for third-best in all of baseball. The 23-year-old's speed is just an added bonus on top of his .294/.398/.605 slash line and 18 home runs. He trails just Fernando Tatis in home runs plus steals. Acuna rides a current 25-game streak of reaching base safely. |
Jun 15 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, one run scored and a stolen base Tuesday against the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Acuna was in the lineup for the team's first game of the week after exiting Sunday's game early with a pectoral injury. He didn't show any ill-effects, as he delivered an RBI double in the fourth inning. He also led off the ninth frame with a single, and he then proceeded to steal second base and come around to score. Acuna has a .285/.390/.597 line with 41 RBI, 53 runs scored and 13 stolen bases across 264 plate appearances this season. |
Jun 13 2021 | Acuna (pectoral) isn't expected to miss additional time, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was removed from Sunday's game against Miami as a precautionary measure due to right pectoral tightness. Manager Brian Snitker said that the 23-year-old wanted to play through the injury, but the team chose to hold him out as a precautionary measure. Acuna will receive treatment Monday, but he's expected to be in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Red Sox. |
Jun 11 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, one RBI, a walk and a steal in Friday's 4-3 loss to Miami. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna stuffed the stat sheet as usual, stealing his 12th base of the season and producing his third multi-hit game of June. The 23-year-old slugger is slashing .282/.393/.608 with 31 extra-base hits and 50 runs scored. After not stealing a base for the last 15 games in May, Acuna has already racked up six this month. |
Jun 8 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 9-5 win at Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old launched a solo homer 460 feet to left field during the third inning, and he tacked on a pair of insurances runs with a two-RBI single during the eighth. Acuna was 1-for-11 with five strikeouts over the previous three contests, but he busted out of the mini-slump Tuesday. He has a .288/.395/.621 slash line with 18 home runs and 38 RBI in 54 games. |
Jun 5 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder was a force on the basepaths in the seventh inning. He reached on a single, stole second and then stole third as part of a double-steal with Freddie Freeman. Acuna has been excellent in standard fantasy formats, as he's batted .284 with 17 home runs, 35 RBI, 46 runs scored and 11 steals through 52 games. |
Jun 2 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a two-run home run, three additional runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fifth-inning blast off Austin Voth gave him 17 homers on the year, moving him back into a tie with Vladimir Guerrero for the major-league lead. Acuna hadn't swiped a bag since May 9, but he's gone yard in consecutive games and five times in his last 10 contests, slashing .325/.417/.750 over that stretch with 10 runs and 11 RBI. |
May 31 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder extended Atlanta's lead to 4-0 with his solo shot off Washington starter Joe Ross in the second inning. Acuna remains locked in at the plate with a .283/.380/.618 slash line with 16 homers, 33 RBI, 39 runs scored and six stolen bases through 47 contests. He's hit safely in six of the last seven games, going 9-for-30 (.300) with three homers, eight RBI and five runs scored in that span. |
May 26 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna made his presence felt with his only knock, as he plated one of the team's three runs with an RBI double that scored Pablo Sandoval in the top of the sixth. Acuna has been sensational this season, but his numbers have regressed a bit of late and is hitting .167 with an .807 OPS over his last 10 appearances. |
May 22 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He turned around the first pitch he saw from Mitch Keller for his league-leading 15th homer of the year, and the 22nd leadoff blast of his career. Five of those home runs have come in Acuna's last 10 games, but he's only 7-for-35 (.200) over that stretch with 15 strikeouts -- even when he's slumping, the 23-year-old superstar does plenty of damage. |
May 21 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and a second run scored in Friday's 20-1 rout of the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His second-inning grand slam off Tyler Anderson kicked Atlanta's offensive eruption into overdrive and was one of seven homers on the night for the team. Acuna is back in the big-league lead with 14 home runs to go along with six steals, 30 RBI, 36 runs and a .284/.388/.628 slash line through 41 games. |
May 19 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna saved his best for last Wednesday, lifting a walkoff solo shot against Mets reliever Jacob Barnes. The blast snapped an 0-for-8 skid at the plate for Acuna. The outfielder is slashing a strong .286/.389/.629 with 13 homers, 25 RBI, 34 runs scored and six stolen bases across 167 plate appearances. |
May 17 2021 | Acuna (ankle) is starting Monday's game against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna entered Sunday's series finale against the Brewers as a pinch hitter and struck out in his lone at-bat. He'll lead off and play right field in Monday's contest. In the three games prior to his injury, Acuna went 3-for-11 with two solo home runs and three runs. |
May 16 2021 | Acuna (ankle) could start Monday's game against the Mets, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna didn't start in any of the games during Atlanta's weekend series in Milwaukee, but he entered Sunday's game as a pinch hitter in the top of the eighth inning. He struck out in his only at-bat, and manager Brian Snitker said that he would have put in a pinch runner if Acuna reached base. However, Acuna has been hitting in the cage and could be healthy enough to return for Monday's series opener against the Mets. |
May 15 2021 | Acuna (ankle) will sit for the second straight game Saturday against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna's X-rays came back negative after he injured his ankle lunging into first base Thursday against the Blue Jays, but he's set to sit for the second straight game. His expected return date remains unclear. Ehire Adrianza will make another start in his absence, leading off and playing right field. |
May 14 2021 | Acuna (ankle) will sit Friday against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna landed awkwardly at first base Thursday and was forced to exit the game. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, and his X-rays came back negative, but he'll get at least one day to rest. He could return to the lineup Saturday, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Ehire Adrianza starts in right field and will bat leadoff in his absence. |
May 13 2021 | Acuna's X-rays on his left ankle came back negative Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was removed from Thursday's game against the Blue Jays with a left ankle injury, and the team will see how he feels Friday before determining his status for Friday's series opener in Milwaukee. Prior to Acuna's departure, he went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. |
May 12 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna singled in his first at-bat and then later led off the third with a solo home run to center to extend Atlanta's lead to 2-0. The 23-year-old continues to prove he's one of baseball's premier talents, slashing .311/.407/.656 with an MLB-high 11 home runs and 32 runs scored to go along with 23 RBI as the team's everyday leadoff hitter. |
May 9 2021 | Acuna (finger) is starting Sunday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna left Saturday's game after he was hit by a 98-mph fastball on his left hand, but X-rays were negative. He'll be able to play through his bruised left pinky finger Sunday. Acuna will lead off and play right field. |

May 8 2021 | Acuna was diagnosed with a bruised left pinky finger after leaving Saturday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old appeared to be in significant pain after being hit by a 98-mph fast on his left hand, but it's a great sign the initial X-rays came back negative. Acuna should be considered day-to-day, but he's likely to be held out of the lineup in the series finale Sunday, especially since Atlanta has a scheduled off day to follow Monday. |
May 4 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He got Atlanta on the board in the fifth inning, taking Joe Ross deep for his league-leading 10th homer of the year. Acuna cooled down a little in late April but seems to be heating back up, going 8-for-29 (.276) over his last seven games with three home runs, five runs scored and five RBI. |
May 1 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in the 6-5 loss Saturday to the Blue Jays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna took Trent Thornton deep in the fifth inning for his ninth home run this season. He shares the home run lead with J.D. Martinez in all of the major league. Acuna is arguably the best player in baseball and his slash line of .325/.450/.739 back it up. The outfielder also leads the league with 26 runs scored. |
Apr 27 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He crushed a Trevor Williams offering over the wall in left-center field in the fifth inning , giving Acuna his first hit in five games since returning to action from a minor abdominal strain. Despite the slight slump, the 23-year-old still sports a dazzling .355/.457/.776 slash line through 21 contests with a league-leading eight homers, three steals, 17 RBI and 23 runs. |
Apr 23 2021 | Acuna (abdomen) will lead off and play right field Friday against Arizona. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna hasn't played since leaving Sunday's game against the Cubs with a mild abdominal strain. He never appeared to be at much risk of landing on the injured list, and Atlanta's unusual schedule (which included two off days in the span of four days) means he's able to return having missed just two games. |
Apr 21 2021 | Acuna (abdomen) could return to the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna won't be available for Wednesday's contest with cold temperatures in New York, but he hit off a tee and did some other activities Wednesday. Manager Brian Snitker said that there's a chance that Acuna could return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against Arizona. The 23-year-old has missed the last two games due to a mild abdominal strain. |
Apr 20 2021 | Acuna (abdomen) is considered day-to-day, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna underwent an MRI on Monday after leaving Sunday's game against the Cubs with an abdominal strain. The test evidently didn't reveal any serious injury. Acuna won't start Tuesday's game against the Yankees, and the team has yet to decide whether or not he'll play Wednesday, but he should be back in the lineup before too long. |
Apr 19 2021 | Acuna was diagnosed with nothing worse than a mild abdominal strain and is considered day-to-day after undergoing an MRI on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Losing Acuna, who left Sunday's game against the Cubs with the injury, would be a massive blow for Atlanta, as he's hitting .419 with seven homers and three steals through his first 16 games. Thankfully, he's avoided any serious injury, though it's not yet clear if he'll be in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees following Monday's off day. The two-game series will take place at Yankee Stadium under American League rules, opening up a path for Acuna to serve as a designated hitter if he's ready to hit but not take the field. |
Apr 18 2021 | Acuna was diagnosed with an abdominal strain Sunday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna left Sunday's game against the Cubs in the middle of the fourth inning after he appeared to suffer the injury on a pickoff attempt. The team won't know until Monday whether the 23-year-old will need to spend time on the injured list. If Acuna does require an IL stint, Austin Riley and Guillermo Heredia could see extra playing time in right field. |
Apr 15 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna got Atlanta back into the game in the fifth inning, blasting a two-run home run to left field. It was his seventh long ball of the season and third in his last two games. Acuna has consistently delivered this season, currently riding a seven-game hitting streak while maintaining a .442/.492/1.000 line to go along 17 runs, 14 RBI and six stolen bases across 59 plate appearances. |
Apr 14 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was basically a one-man show for the Atlanta offense, but his efforts weren't quite enough to drag his club into the win column. Acuna has a six-game hit- and run-scoring streak going, and he's slashing an eye-popping .447/.500/1.000 with six homers, three steals, 12 RBI and 15 runs over his first 12 games of the season. |
Apr 13 2021 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with a triple, three walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miami's pitchers did their best not to give the red-hot Acuna anything to hit, but he still did plenty of damage all the same. The 23-year-old now boasts a 1.447 OPS with four homers, three steals, eight RBI and 10 runs through the first 10 games of the season. |
Apr 11 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna continued his impressive run at the plate Sunday, as it was the fifth time in the last six games that he recorded multiple hits. The 23-year-old has been on an absolute tear to begin the season, as he boasts a slash line of .444/.462/.917 with four home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored in nine games. |
Apr 9 2021 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a two-run home run in Friday's 8-1 win over the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The young superstar fell one base short of hitting for a cycle. Acuna already has four multi-hit performances and seven extra-base hits (four doubles and three homers) through seven games, giving him a blistering .393/.433/.857 slash line. |
Apr 7 2021 | Acuna went 3-for-6 with a double, two runs, one RBI, two stolen bases and one walk during Wednesday's doubleheader sweep at Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old followed up Tuesday's two-homer performance by going 3-for-4 in Wednesday's matinee to help the Braves snatch their first win of the season. Acuna is 7-for-23 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI, two stolen bases, two walks and six strikeouts through the first six games of 2021. |
Apr 6 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs and one additional RBI during Tuesday's 6-5 loss at Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was 0-for-8 with four strikeouts over the previous two games, but he took Max Scherzer deep twice Tuesday, including a leadoff homer on the first pitch of the afternoon. Acuna will look to build on that production in Wednesday's twin bill against the Nationals. |
Apr 2 2021 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old did his job setting the table as the leadoff hitter, but the heart of the Atlanta order wasn't able to take advantage. Acuna is expected to produce massive fantasy numbers once again after falling only three steals shy of a 40-40 campaign in 2019. |
Mar 16 2021 | Acuna homered for the third time in his last four games during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "When he gets in that mode, it's something fun to watch," manager Brian Snitker said after Monday's game. "Good takes. He's not chasing. You can tell, seeing the at-bats, that he's getting locked in a little bit." | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old had a slow start to the spring and still only has five hits in 24 at-bats (.208), but four of those knocks have gone for extra bases. Acuna fell three steals shy of a 40-40 season in 2019 and posted a career-high .331 ISO last year, and there's no reason to expect anything but massive fantasy production from him in 2021. |
Mar 7 2021 | Acuna is 1-for-11 with one double and one run in four games through the first week of spring training. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old played through a wrist injury during the playoffs last season, but he's fully healthy in camp and seeing plenty of action early on. Acuna had a .987 OPS with 14 homers, eight stolen bases and 29 RBI in 46 games for Atlanta in 2020, and he should continue to operate atop the lineup for the Braves this season. |
Oct 20 2020 | Acuna played through a sore left wrist throughout the postseason, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna wasn't injured badly enough that the Braves feared he could cause long-term damage, so he played through the issue, knowing that he could heal over the offseason. That perhaps explains why he hit a disappointing .217/.333/.370 in 12 playoff games. It doesn't sound as if the injury is expected to affect him heading into next season. |
Oct 2 2020 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in Thursday's series-clinching Game 2 win over the Reds in the NL Wild Card Series. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning, doubling in Austin Riley. He certainly looks quite healthy after being scratched with a minor wrist issue ahead of the regular-season finale. Acuna now owns a .333/.412/.644 slash line in 11 career postseason games. |
Sep 30 2020 | Acuna (wrist) is leading off and starting in center field Wednesday in Game 1 against the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed the season finale with left wrist irritation but will start Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series as expected. Acuna hit .256/.400/.620 against right-handed pitchers this season. Righty Trevor Bauer is starting for Cincinnati. Bauer held right-handed batters to a .146/.205/.220 line this season. |
Sep 27 2020 | Acuna (wrist) is expected to play in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was scratched from Sunday's regular-season finale with left wrist irritation, but his absence from the lineup was considered precautionary. Manager Brian Snitker confirmed after the game that he expects that he'll take the field for the first game of the postseason Wednesday. |
Sep 25 2020 | Acuna went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk in Friday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna opened the scoring with his leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning. In the third, he was hit by a pitch and stole second. Acuna drew a walk and scored on an error in the eighth inning, and scored as the initial runner in the 10th after an Ozzie Albies single. In 45 games, Acuna has 14 homers, eight stolen bases, 46 runs scored and 29 RBI while slashing .256/.414/.596 across 198 plate appearances. |

During the three-game series, Acuna reached base multiple times in each contest while posting a .643 OBP with two home runs, six runs and five RBI. |
Sep 19 2020 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk Friday as the Braves took down the Mets, 15-2. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna led off the game with a double to left as he set the tone for a Braves offense that overall had a huge night. The 22-year-old would cap off his night by hitting back-to-back home runs with Ozzie Albies in the sixth, then he was replaced in center field by Ender Inciarte in the bottom half of the inning. Acuna's two-hit effort ended an 0-for-18 slump that stretched over the last five games, and he is now hitting .254/.405/.592 with 12 home runs, 23 RBI and 36 runs scored in 163 plate appearances this season. |
Sep 12 2020 | Acuna (foot) is starting Saturday against the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna fouled a ball off his foot Friday and was unable to exit the field under his own power. However, he'll return to action just one day later, as he felt better once he returned to the clubhouse Friday. |
Sep 11 2020 | Acuna (foot) could play Saturday against the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After fouling a ball off his foot Friday, Acuna was unable to put any weight on his left foot as he left the field. However, manager Brian Snitker said that he was able to walk normally once he returned to the clubhouse. As a result, he may not be forced to miss any additional time. |
Sep 10 2020 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder's performance was highlighted by his two-run homer that cut the Nationals' lead to 5-4 in the fifth. Acuna also tallied a pair of walks and swiped his fifth bag during the game. The 22-year-old will take a robust .286/.440/.667 slash line into Friday. |
Sep 7 2020 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs Sunday in the Braves' 10-3 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Washington pitching staff had no answer for the Braves' top four hitters (Acuna, Dansby Swanson, Freddie Freeman and Marcell Ozuna), who combined to record seven hits and draw six walks on the day. Since coming off the injured list Aug. 26 after missing time with a wrist issue, Acuna has gone 9-for-25 with five home runs, 11 runs, six RBI and a stolen base in nine games. He'll bat leadoff and will start in right field in Monday's series opener with the Marlins. |
Sep 5 2020 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks Saturday against the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna opened the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, his ninth of the season. He's been on a tear in three games since returning from a hamstring strain, going 4-for 10 with three walks, four home runs, five RBI and five runs scored. His overall line has also been on the rise, and he's now hitting .281/.407/.652 across 108 plate appearances. |
Sep 4 2020 | Acuna (hamstring) will bat leadoff and start in center field in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old missed the past three games with right hamstring tightness, but he's ready to retake the field after Thursday's scheduled off day. It's unclear if Acuna will start both ends of the twin bill. |
Sep 2 2020 | Acuna (hamstring) is feeling good despite being out of the lineup Wednesday and is expected to return Friday against the Nationals, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna sits for the third straight day with right hamstring tightness Wednesday, but it appears as though he's essentially over the issue. He went through a full workout Tuesday without issues, but sitting Wednesday buys him two extra days to heal, as the Braves have a scheduled off day Thursday. |
Sep 1 2020 | Acuna (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will be excluded from the starting nine for a second straight game as he continues to deal with right hamstring tightness. Ender Inciarte will start in center field. |
Aug 31 2020 | Acuna (hamstring) isn't in the lineup Monday against the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Brian Snitker was hopeful that Acuna would be able to return to action Monday after he was removed from Sunday's contest with right hamstring tightness. He'll be excluded from the starting lineup, and it's unclear whether he'll be available off the bench. Ender Inciarte will take over in center field. |
Aug 30 2020 | Acuna (hamstring) could return to the Braves' lineup Monday against the Red Sox, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna was removed from Sunday's game as a precautionary measure with right hamstring tightness. Manager Brian Snitker didn't sound too concerned about the issue and said that he's hopeful that he could return to action Monday. |
Aug 26 2020 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, an additional run scored, a walk and a stolen base during Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old did most of his damage during the matinee, as he crushed a 473-foot homer during his first at-bat and stole second base after earning a walk during the third inning. It was Acuna's first game action since Aug. 10 after battling the wrist injury, and it's a good sign he was able to play both games of the twin bill in their entirety. |
Aug 25 2020 | Acuna (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna will be thrust right into the fire with a matchup against Gerrit Cole and the Yankees. He hit .364 with four home runs, one steal and an 8:8 K:BB in 33 August at-bats prior to landing on the injured list. |
Aug 23 2020 | Acuna (wrist) will participate in batting practice Sunday and could be activated early this week, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old resumed swinging a bat Saturday, and manager Brian Snitker said he's "getting closer" to his return. Acuna has already been sidelined for the 10-day minimum and is eligible to be activated, and he may be ready to go for the upcoming two-game set against the Yankees, which begins Tuesday. |
Aug 21 2020 | Acuna (wrist) is expected to resume swinging a bat Saturday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team doesn't have an official timeline for his return, but there should be a better idea of his progression after he swings Saturday. Acuna is already eligible to be activated from the 10-day injured list, but his return shouldn't be expected until he's cleared for more participation in baseball activities. Ender Inciarte will continue seeing the bulk of the playing time in center field in the meantime, with prospect Cristian Pache potentially also in the mix. |
Aug 15 2020 | Acuna will be placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 10, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna, who will be eligible to return Aug. 21, was reportedly still sore when he came into the stadium Saturday and the team felt it would not be smart to try and push its young superstar through the injury. While Acuna is on the shelf, Ender Inciarte figures to receive the majority of playing time in center field. |
Aug 12 2020 | Acuna (wrist) will miss the three-game series in Miami this weekend but won't be placed on the injured list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old will end up missing at least five games due to a sore left wrist, but the team hopes he'll be ready to rejoin the lineup after resting for a few days. According to David O'Brien of The Athletic, Wednesday's MRI came back clean and revealed Acuna only dealing with some irritation. Ender Inciarte and Adam Duvall should continue to see more consistent starts in the outfield for the Braves in the meantime. |
Aug 11 2020 | Acuna will have his left wrist examined Wednesday in New York, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with left wrist soreness, and he seems unlikely to be back in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Yankees, especially with a scheduled off day to follow Thursday. More information should be available on the injury after Acuna is evaluated. |
Aug 9 2020 | Acuna went 4-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored in an 8-0 victory over Philadelphia in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After launching his second homer of the season in the first game Sunday, Acuna blasted a pair to double his season total in the second contest. |
Aug 4 2020 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a slow start to the season, Acuna's bat has woken up, to the surprise of no one. The 22-year-old has gone 6-for-17 (.353) over the last four games, drawing two walks for good measure, while adding a homer, three runs and four RBI to his ledger. |
Aug 1 2020 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old star came into the game with a miserable .455 OPS and 17 strikeouts through eight games, but it was only a matter of time before Acuna's bat woke up in a big way. His sixth-inning solo shot off Franklyn Kilome was his first homer of the season, but there should be many more coming as he shakes off his slump. |
Jul 16 2020 | Acuna doubled in his lone plate appearance in Wednesday's intrasquad game, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna put both his contact skills and speed on display during his brief cameo in the intrasquad game, which was called after three innings due to rain. After making solid contact on what would have been a routine base hit for most players, Acuna hustled hard out of the batter's box and was able to stretch the single into a double. Acuna was already a defensible No. 1 overall fantasy pick after providing 41 home runs and 37 steals in 2019, but his case for the top spot in drafts is further strengthened by the fact that Angels superstar Mike Trout -- whose wife is due to give birth in August -- is still weighing whether or not he wants to play during the 60-game season. |
May 16 2020 | Acuna, Ozzie Albies and Charlie Culberson were able to take at-bats against live pitching this week, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The trio of hitters joined Mike Foltynewicz, Mike Soroka and Sean Newcomb at a high school in the Atlanta area for some more intense reps than the players had been getting in their respective batting cages and bullpen sessions, as each pitcher tossed three simulated innings of about 15 pitches against his teammates. Acuna and the other Atlanta hitters appeared to be more than ready for a second training camp, and hopefully a regular season, to begin. |
Mar 12 2020 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old comes into this season with sky-high expectations, but Acuna's performance this spring has left a lot to be desired -- he's slashing .138/.194/.138 with 14 K's in 31 plate appearances. There's no indication he's injured however, just searching for his timing at the plate, and he remains firmly in the conversation for the first overall pick in most fantasy drafts. |
Oct 3 2019 | Acuna is starting in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Cardinals | on Thursday, leading off. |

Oct 2 2019 | Acuna had no issues with his hip following a workout Tuesday, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A minor injury had kept Acuna off the field since Sept. 24, but he was expected to be ready to go for the playoffs. He's remained on target and is expected to be playing at 100 percent for the first game of the NLDS on Thursday against the Cardinals. |
Sep 25 2019 | Acuna (hip) has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season, though he's expected to be ready for the NLDS, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves are playing it safe with Acuna, who exited Tuesday's game against the Royals with right hip tightness and was eventually diagnosed with a groin strain, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. While he'll continue to hit and throw over the next week, he won't appear in any more regular season games, ending his quest for a 40-40 season at 41 home runs and 37 stolen bases. The expectation is that the 21-year-old will be good to go for Game 1 of the NLDS. |
Sep 24 2019 | Acuna left Tuesday's game as a precaution with left hip tightness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went 0-for-1 in his lone at-bat before being replaced by Billy Hamilton. Acuna apparently suffered the injury trying to run down a ball in the outfield in the second inning and was seen limping slightly. He is day-to-day with four games left on the schedule. |
Sep 22 2019 | Acuna is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Braves have given their top players a chance to rest since clinching the division crown Friday night, so Acuna will get a day off for the first time this month. Billy Hamilton will start in center field Sunday for the second day in a row. |
Sep 21 2019 | Acuna went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, a two-run homer and a second run scored in Friday's 6-0 win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 21-year-old has homered in back-to-back games to give him 41 on the year, and he's now reached the century mark in RBI for the first time with 101. Atlanta has only seven games left on the schedule for Acuna to steal the three bases he needs to reach 40/40, but with the NL East title already clinched, he may not be in the lineup for all of them. |
Sep 19 2019 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a walk, two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna took Aaron Nola deep in the third inning to record his 40th home run of the season. With the long ball he joined Eddie Mathews and Mel Ott as the only players to record a home run by their age 21 season. With 37 stolen bases on the campaign, he also has the chance to build on his already impressive production by putting together a 40/40 season. |
Sep 12 2019 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, two stolen bases and another run scored in Thursday's loss to the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Acuna launched a solo home run off Blake Parker in the seventh inning to bring the Braves within one, but that would be the closest they'd get en route to the loss. The team-leading long ball was Acuna's 39th of the season to go with 119 runs and 36 stolen bases, all career-highs for the talented 21-year-old. |
Sep 10 2019 | Acuña went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, three runs and two walks during a 7-2 victory against the Phillies on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 21-year-old inches closer to a 40/40 season. Acuña has cooled off considerably in September, but three of his five hits this month have gone for extra bases, including two homers. He is batting .280 with 38 home runs, 94 RBI, 116 runs and 34 steals in 582 at-bats this season. |

Acuna has cooled off considerably in September, but three of his five hits this month have gone for extra bases, including two homers. He is batting .280 with 38 home runs, 94 RBI, 116 runs and 34 steals in 582 at-bats this season. |

Jul 23 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Nationals. | That's now six hits in two games, including two doubles and a homer, for Acuna coming out of the All-Star break. Despite a first half beset by injuries, the 20-year-old now has a respectable .270/.325/.478 slash line through his first 45 big-league games, but he could be gearing up for a much more impressive finish to his rookie season. |
Jul 20 2018 | Acuna will start in left field and bat atop the order versus Washington on Friday. | Acuna has played in 43 games for the Braves during his rookie season and this will mark the first time that manager Brian Snitker is utilizing him as the leadoff man. Ozzie Albies is situated in his typical spot, batting second, while Ender Inciarte was moved down to the seven hole. Throughout the first half, Acuna slashed .249/.304/.438 with seven home runs, 19 RBI and two stolen bases. |
Jul 20 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a solo home run, three total runs scored and two stolen bases in Friday's 8-5 win over the Nationals. | It's the kind of performance the Braves have been waiting for from Acuna ever since he emerged as the best prospect in the game in 2017. The 20-year-old's .260/.317/.468 slash line on the season remains unimpressive, but he's more than capable of an explosive second half if he can stay healthy. |
Jul 11 2018 | Acuna (groin) started in left field and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Tuesday in the Braves' 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays. | Acuna had been held out of the lineup the previous two days with left groin tightness. While he didn't make much of an impact in his return to the starting nine, the fact that Acuna played all nine innings in the field Tuesday suggests that the groin issue shouldn't be too much of a concern going forward. |
Jul 10 2018 | Acuna (groin) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays. | A bout of groin tightness provided a bit of a scare over the weekend, but it ultimately proved minor as Acuna has received full clearance after three days of rest. Acuna has gone 9-for-32 with two homers and 12 strikeouts since returning a knee injury in late June. It looks like he will remain in the seven hole between Johan Camargo and Dansby Swanson for the time being. |
Jul 9 2018 | Acuna (groin) made an appearance as a pinch hitter in the Braves' 10-3 loss to the Brewers on Sunday, notching a base hit in his lone at-bat. | The Braves withheld Acuna from the lineup for the second straight day Sunday, with manager Brian Snitker ultimately handing Charlie Culberson the start in left field. The fact that Acuna was available off the bench suggests his groin issue isn't much of a concern. After a team off day Monday, there's a good chance Acuna will be cleared to re-enter the starting nine when the Braves kick off a two-game set with the Blue Jays on Tuesday. |
Jul 8 2018 | Acuna (groin) is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale at Milwaukee. | Acuna was speculated to be available Sunday and manager Brian Snitker said he was "leaning toward" returning him to the lineup, but will instead give Charlie Culberson the start in left field. Monday's off day provides an additional day of rest for the 20-year-old, and will have three days of rest for Tuesday's game against Toronto. |
Jul 7 2018 | Acuna (groin) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Milwaukee. | Acuna will stay on the bench after leaving Friday's contest with left groin tightness. Consider him day-to-day looking ahead to Sunday's series finale while Charlie Culberson draws a start in left field. |
Jul 7 2018 | Acuna (groin) has improved enough to where he could return for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Manager Brian Snitker has considered holding Acuna out through Monday's off day, but he's "leaning toward" returning Acuna to the lineup for the series finale in Milwaukee, per Bowman. Acuna left Friday's game with left groin tightness -- his eighth game back from a left knee sprain. He's batting .264/.321/.466 with seven homers and two stolen bases in 37 games with the Braves this season. |
Jul 6 2018 | Acuna exited Friday's tilt against the Brewers after suffering an apparent injury, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. | Acuna suffered the injury after hitting an infield chopper to plate a run. The severity of the injury is currently unknown, but more information should become available in the near future. Charlie Culberson was brought in to replace Acuna. |
Jul 6 2018 | Upon his removal from Friday's tilt with Milwaukee, Acuna was diagnosed with left groin tightness. | Acuna's status for Saturday's matchup is up in the air, although he'll likely be assessed Saturday morning before a decision is made. The 20-year-old is hitting .262 with seven homers and 18 RBI through 36 games. |
Jul 2 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and three RBI in Monday's 5-3 victory over the Yankees. | Acuna launched a two-run home run in the 11th inning to break a 3-3 tie, which would ultimately be enough for the win. The 20-year-old left fielder has been hot at the dish of late, as he's gone 11-for-31 with three homers and six RBI over his last seven games. |
Jun 30 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and scored three runs Saturday. | The rookie went 0-for-4 in his Friday return from the disabled list but made noise in his second contest back, taking a Luke Weaver offering over the wall in center field in the second inning for his sixth blast. Acuna will take a .270/.331/.476 triple slash into Sunday's action, though it wouldn't be surprising if Atlanta gives him more days off than usual in the near future to ease him back after his knee injury. |
Jun 29 2018 | Acuna will hit sixth and start in left field against the Cardinals on Friday. | Acuna was officially reinstated from the DL (knee) on Thursday, and as expected, his bat will be utilized in the middle of the order behind Tyler Flowers. With Ender Inciarte and Ozzie Albies producing at the top, Acuna could remain in the six-hole moving forward, but that will likely be determined by results in the coming weeks. This will mark Acuna's first major-league game since going down with his knee injury in Boston on May 27. |
Jun 28 2018 | The Braves activated Acuna (knee) off the 10-day disabled list on Thursday. | Acuna has been on a minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett, playing six straight games for the Stripers. The 20-year-old has been sidelined since late May with a mild knee sprain, and should return to his starting role in left field. David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Acuna is likely to bat in the middle of the order, which will hopefully provide additional opportunities with men on base for the young outfielder. |
Jun 25 2018 | Acuna (knee) is expected to play in a rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday and is unlikely to rejoin the Braves before Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | There was some hope that Acuna could be back in the Braves' lineup as soon as Monday, but it appears his rehab assignment will extend at least through Tuesday; and with a day game for the Braves on Wednesday followed by a team off day, the Braves could easily decide to let him spend a few more days in the minors before bringing him back. When Acuna does return, manager Brian Snitker said he will hit in the middle of the order, according to David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as Snitker is pleased with the production he is getting from the top two hitters -- Ender Inciarte and Ozzie Albies -- at the moment. |
Jun 24 2018 | Acuna (knee) is expected to remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett through at least Monday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. | Reports on his rehab have been good, but it sounds like he won't be activated until Tuesday, at the earliest. He has one hit in 10 at-bats over three games thus far during this rehab assignment. While Acuna will probably return sometime next week, barring a setback, it's unclear how many games he will play, making him a risky start in weekly formats. |
Jun 23 2018 | Acuna (knee) went 0-for-2 in the first game of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, and he could return to the Braves by Monday, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Braves manager Brian Snitker wouldn't commit to that timetable, suggesting instead that the organization was prepared to give Acuna a full week at Gwinnett if it seemed necessary, but the 20-year-old did look good in his two at-bats Friday during a rain-shortened affair, running out a ground ball without any issues and blasting a ball to the warning track in center field. Expect Acuna, who sports a .265/.326/.453 slash line through his first 29 big-league games, to immediately slot back in as Atlanta's starting left fielder once he comes off the disabled list. |
Jun 21 2018 | Acuna (knee) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. | As expected, Acuna will embark on a short minor-league stay with Gwinnett after rehabbing at the Braves' spring training facility in Orlando this past week. The outfielder will likely require a few outings in Triple-A before returning to Atlanta at some point next week. |
Jun 20 2018 | Acuna (knee) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett within the next couple of days, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "He's doing really well," Braves manager Brian Snitker said before Tuesday's game. "I'm not sure when he'll go out [on a rehab assignment]. But I think it's going to be sooner rather than later." | The 20-year-old has been taking batting practice and engaging in running exercises at the team's spring-training complex since the weekend without any issues, so the next step in his rehab will be game action. Acuna has been out since May 27 with a sprain of his left ACL, and he appears to be on track to return to the big-league lineup just under a month after getting hurt. |
Jun 16 2018 | Acuna (knee) will continue his rehab at the Braves' spring training facility in Orlando, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Acuna successfully worked through baserunning drills Saturday, but the Braves want to see a little bit more from their prized prospect before clearing him for minor-league rehab assignment. He'll work out and face live pitching in Orlando for a few days and Atlanta will determine the next step in his rehab thereafter. The 20-year-old has been on the shelf since May 28 with a knee sprain. |
Jun 16 2018 | Acuna (knee) successfully worked through baserunning drills Saturday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Acuna hit on the field Thursday and after running the bases Saturday is poised to start a minor-league rehab assignment. The 20-year-old has been on the disabled list with a left knee sprain since May 28, and could return for next weekend's series against the Orioles if he has a short rehab assignment early in the week. |
Jun 14 2018 | Acuna (knee) was able to hit on the field prior to Thursday's game and will attempt to run the bases within the coming days, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Per Bowman, it appears that Acuna is about a week away from returning to the field with the Braves, though more should be known following the outcome of the outfielder's baserunning drills. If all goes according to plan, Acuna could embark on a rehab assignment early next week, paving the way for his reinstatement prior to a six-game set against Baltimore and Cincinnati. |
Jun 12 2018 | Acuna (knee) could begin a rehab assignment by this weekend, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | The young outfielder hit the disabled list in late May with a mild knee sprain. He's now feeling no pain when running and hopes to begin a rehab assignment soon. An exact timetable for his major-league return is not yet clear. |
Jun 11 2018 | Acuna (knee) ran in the outfield and hit off a tee prior to the Braves' game Saturday against the Dodgers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | It was the second consecutive day that Acuna tested out the health of his sprained left knee, with the outfielder seemingly coming out of the workout no worse for the wear. The 20-year-old is expected to ramp up the intensity of his activities Monday and Tuesday before the Braves determine if he's fit to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. An exact target date for Acuna's activation from the 10-day disabled list isn't yet known, but a return for the Braves' upcoming weekend series with the Padres remains plausible. |
Jun 8 2018 | Acuna (knee) hit off a tee and participated in some light jogging Friday, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Acuna took another step forward, and although there's still no exact timetable for his return, he's expected to begin a rehab assignment early next week. If he's sent for a minor-league stint in the near future, Acuna could return in time for Atlanta's four-game series with the Padres between June 14 and June 17. |
Jun 7 2018 | Acuna (knee) could begin a rehab assignment early next week with the hope of being activated during the Braves' series against the Padres starting June 14, https://www.mlb.com/news/inbox-when-will-ronald-acuna-return/c-280270672">Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | The rookie phenom continues to progress well from his ACL sprain, but the Braves will be careful to not rush him back. According to Bowman, it'd be "optimistic" to expect Acuna back during Atlanta's two-game set with the Mets in the middle of the week. However, a return between June 14 and June 17 seems to be in play so long as Acuna sets out on a rehab assignment early in the week. |
Jun 6 2018 | Acuna (knee) will hit off a tee in the coming days, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | The soreness in Acuna's knee is finally beginning to subside, clearing the way for him to resume baseball activities. While this is a step in the right direction for the youngster, he remains without a timetable for his return. He'll ultimately need to complete a minor-league rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Braves. Acuna has been on the shelf since May 28 with a knee sprain. |
Jun 4 2018 | Acuna (knee) remains sore and he hasn't progressed to participating in baseball activities yet, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Although Acuna has yet to resume baseball activities, he could be cleared sometime this week if all goes well. He'll also need to complete a rehabilitation assignment prior to returning from the 10-day disabled list. |
May 29 2018 | The Braves think Acuna (knee) could possibly return to action within the next two weeks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Acuna actually lobbied to play in the second game of Monday's doubleheader, but the Braves were always going to take the cautious approach. They DL'd the 20-year-old after an MRI showed a mild ACL sprain and a lower-back contusion. Still, his prognosis is much better than could have been expected given the way his knee bent on the play Sunday. If all goes well, he could return during the June 8-10 road series in Los Angeles. Acuna is an easy hold in all formats. |
May 28 2018 | Acuna was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Monday with a mild left knee sprain, a left knee contusion and a lower-back contusion. | He will be reevaluated at the end of the 10-day period, so it sounds like he may be able to return for the June 8-10 series against the Dodgers if all goes well. This was about as good of a diagnosis as his owners could have realistically hoped for, as it was a pretty scary injury, with his knee appearing to bend inward. Preston Tucker, who is hitting sixth and starting in left field against the Mets, should see the bulk of the starts while Acuna is on the disabled list. |
May 28 2018 | Acuna (knee) is out of Monday's lineup against the Mets. | He went to a local clinic for further tests after exiting Sunday's game with a left knee injury and lower-back pain. While he was able to walk off the field under his own power, it was a scary injury, as his knee appeared to bend inward. We are awaiting a more detailed diagnosis. Preston Tucker will start in left field and hit sixth. |
May 27 2018 | Acuna exited Sunday's game against the Red Sox with knee and lower back pain. | The Braves didn't lend much detail in their initial diagnosis of Acuna's scary injury in the seventh inning of Sunday's contest. A more detailed diagnosis should become available once he's able to undergo further testing following the conclusion of the game. |
May 27 2018 | Acuna was sent to a local clinic for further evaluation after exiting in the seventh inning of Sunday's 7-1 win over the Red Sox with a left knee injury and lower-back pain, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Acuna suffered the injuries when he tumbled past first base after attempting to beat out an infield single. The 20-year-old's knee appeared to bend in an awkward manner during the play, but he was able to walk off the field under his own power. Acuna will receive an MRI at the clinic and rejoin the Braves in Atlanta, but official word on the extent of the rookie's setback may not be known until Monday. Preston Tucker would likely be in store for added reps in the corner outfield if Acuna is forced to the disabled list. |
May 27 2018 | Acuna exited Sunday's game against the Red Sox early with an apparent left knee injury, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Acuna's left leg bent awkwardly on the first base bag while beating out an infield single in the top of the seventh inning. He immediately went down in a heap of pain and was tended to by team trainers. The star outfielder was fortunately able to walk off the field and make his way to the clubhouse under his own power. We'll await word on the specifics of the scary injury. |
May 26 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's game against the Red Sox. | His fifth home run of the season came off Boston's closer, Craig Kimbrel, on a 97-mph fastball on the upper outside corner of the plate. It was a very impressive opposite field home run for the prodigy off of premium velocity. He is now slashing .263/.320/.456 after this big day at the dish. |
May 20 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Marlins. | Acuna delivered a two-RBI single in the seventh inning to get the Braves back within striking distance during Sunday's 10-9 win. The 20-year-old left fielder has put up decent numbers at the dish this season, slashing .264/.333/.462 and hitting four home runs in 91 at-bats. |
May 15 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. | Acuna's solo jack broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning, though the back end of the Atlanta bullpen couldn't make the late lead hold up. The 20-year-old has never hit more than nine home runs at any one level in a season, though he did mash 21 long balls in all across High-A, Double-A and Triple-A last year and is already up to four through 76 at-bats in the majors. Despite slowing down a bit of late, Acuna now sports a .263/.341/.500 slash line for the season. |
May 14 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Marlins. | After a quick start to his big-league career, strikeouts have become a bit of an issue for Acuna. The 20-year-old is slashing only .220/.278/.380 through 12 games in May with 15 Ks, but he's been able to retain decent fantasy value while hitting second in the Braves' lineup, picking up two homers, a steal, three RBI and nine runs over that stretch. With Ender Inciarte heating up, though, it wouldn't be a surprise to see manager Brian Snitker drop Acuna lower in the order, both to take advantage of Inciarte's current form and take some pressure off the organization's prized rookie. |
May 3 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in Thursday's win over the Mets. | Acuna bounced back from an 0-for-5 showing Wednesday to notch his fifth multi-hit effort in eight games since being promoted. The 20-year-old smacked a fifth-inning offering from Jason Vargas -- which traveled an estimated 451 feet -- into the second deck for his second career big-league homer. He's now hitting .382 with a 1.138 OPS in the early stages of his debut season. |
May 2 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Mets. | The 20-year-old has put together multi-hit performances in four of his first six big-league games, and Acuna's .417/.481/.750 slash line includes five doubles and a homer. The phenom's debut has gone even better than the Braves could have hoped, and he's already worked his way up to the two-hole in the lineup between Ozzie Albies and Freddie Freeman, a spot that should provide him with plenty of run-producing opportunities. Even after his batting average returns to a more believable level, Acuna could remain a five-category fantasy superstar. |
Apr 30 2018 | Acuna served as the Braves' No. 2 hitter in Sunday's 10-1 win over the Phillies, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and walks to go with an RBI and his first stolen base of the season. | With primary leadoff man Ender Inciarte entering the contest with a mediocre .300 on-base percentage, manager Brian Snitker elected to reshuffle the lineup. Ozzie Albies moved into the leadoff spot to open up the two hole for Acuna, while Inciarte plummeted all the way to ninth in the order. The lineup change paid dividends for all three players, who produced seven of the Braves' 11 hits and scored half of the club's runs. That production could prompt Snitker to stick with the lineup arrangement for another few games, which would enhance Acuna's fantasy value even more. Acuna had previously hit either fifth or sixth in the order in his other four big-league starts. |
Apr 27 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Phillies. | The rookie now has six hits, including two doubles and a homer, in three games to begin his big-league career, and his sluggish start with Triple-A Gwinnett is quickly becoming a distant memory. Acuna is currently hitting sixth for the Braves, but he could work his way up to a more fertile spot in the batting order in short order if he keeps raking. |
Apr 26 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer in Thursday's win over the Reds. | It didn't take long for the 20-year-old phenom to swat his first career big-league homer, as his second inning solo shot off Homer Bailey came in just his sixth major-league plate appearance. Acuna added an RBI double and scored a run in the eighth inning to cap his impressive day. It's obviously early, and the youngster may struggle at times, but he's already flashed the five-tool upside that helped him enter the year as one of baseball's top prospects. |
Apr 25 2018 | Acuna is batting sixth and playing left field in his major-league debut Wednesday against the Reds. | Acuna should immediately slide right into an everyday role for the Braves. Despite a slow start for Triple-A Gwinnett (.232/.321/.304 through 17 games), the Braves deemed him ready for the big leagues and they won't be wasting his talents on the bench. Universally considered one of the top if not the top prospect in baseball, the 20-year-old tore through the three highest levels of the minors last season, hitting .325/.374/.522 with 21 homers and 44 steals in 139 games. He's stuck behind Nick Markakis and Johan Camargo in Wednesday's batting order, but neither of them should prove much of an obstacle if he starts hitting well, so he has a good chance to move up in the lineup over the course of the season. |
Apr 25 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Reds. | He very nearly kicked his career off with a bang, driving the first big-league pitch he saw to the warning track in center field and coming up about three feet shy of a home run, but Acuna redeemed himself later in the game by singling up the middle and coming around to score the tying run in the eighth inning. The 20-year-old is the youngest player in the league and there will undoubtedly be growing pains -- he struck out twice Wednesday -- but his five-category upside is already apparent. |
Apr 24 2018 | Acuna was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | Baseball's top prospect is set to make his highly-anticipated debut Wednesday for the Braves. Acuna posted stellar numbers during his first three seasons in the minor leagues but has gotten off to a relatively slow start with Gwinnett this year, slashing .215/.301/.277 through his first 73 plate appearances. Despite his early struggles, the talented 20-year-old is more than capable of making an immediate impact in the majors. If he is somehow available in any fantasy leagues, he should be scooped up immediately. |
Apr 23 2018 | Acuna went 3-for-6 with a run scored for Triple-A Gwinnett in Sunday's 10-9 loss to Pawtucket. | Perhaps most encouragingly, the 20-year-old phenom didn't strike out after fanning 20 times in his first 13 games this season. The Braves have been waiting for Acuna to get hotter before calling him up, and while his .217/.299/.283 slash line isn't even warm yet, he has reached base safely in nine straight games, hitting .268 (11-for-41) over that stretch with five walks. A few more games like Sunday's, and he'll begin to force the organization's hand. |
Apr 18 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run Tuesday for Triple-A Gwinnett in an 8-3 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. | The 20-year-old finally got going at the plate, hitting his first homer and collecting his first RBI of the season for Gwinnett. The Braves have said they're only waiting for Acuna to regain his confidence and relax before bringing him up, so another couple of performances like this and he could be ready to make his much-anticipated big-league debut. |
Apr 17 2018 | Acuna will get a chance to relax and establish a routine with Triple-A Gwinnett before a promotion to the big leagues, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "I think the biggest thing with him is he's just trying too hard," Braves manager Brian Snitker said Monday. "He's pressing. He'll be fine." | The 20-year-old's struggles continued Monday night, as he went 0-for-3 with two walks and two strikeouts for Gwinnett to leave him with a .139/.244/.167 slash line through nine games. The organization won't hesitate to bring Acuna to Atlanta once he shows signs of heating up, so fantasy GMs who have him stashed on their bench should keep him there, as with future financial considerations no longer on the table it's simply a matter of him regaining his poise and stringing together a few hits before he'll be in the majors. |
Apr 16 2018 | The Braves don't have any current plans to promote Acuna to the big leagues during their seven-game homestand that begins Monday against the Phillies, though that could change if the outfielder gets hot at the plate for Triple-A Gwinnett over the next few days, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. | While splitting time between High-A Florida, Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett a season ago, Acuna established himself as the consensus top prospect in baseball after slashing a combined .325/.374/.522 across the three levels. After carrying over that impressive production to spring training, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Acuna would be promoted to the big club by mid-April, when Atlanta would have secured an extra year of team control. However, with Preston Tucker thriving as the Braves' primary left fielder and Acuna unexpectedly sputtering in his return to the International League -- he's gone 5-for-33 with 12 strikeouts through eight games -- Atlanta has slowed down the phenom's arrival to the big leagues. Given Acuna's impressive results at Gwinnett last season in a much larger sample of at-bats, his early struggles in 2018 are likely little more than a blip on the radar, so those who have been stashing the young phenom shouldn't be overly concerned. Once he strings together a few solid games in a row, Acuna should get his long-awaited call to the majors and immediately push for a full-time role. |
Apr 13 2018 | Acuna's slow start could delay his major-league debut, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. | Through his first six games of the year with Triple-A Gwinnett, Acuna has a wRC+ of 0, hitting .120/.185/.165 with a 37 percent strikeout rate. Six games is a minuscule sample, though, and won't have changed the Braves' overall opinion of a player who hit .344/.393/.548 in 54 games at the same level last season. Still, Atlanta may want to give him a few more games to get rolling before promoting him, especially as its weekend series in Chicago is set to be plagued by cold, rain and wind, hardly the ideal setting for a debut. The Braves may choose to promote him Monday for a week-long homestand against the Phillies and Mets. |
Apr 11 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored for Triple-A Gwinnett in Tuesday's win over Durham. | He'd gone 0-for-11 through his first three games of the season, but it was only a matter of time before Acuna began rapping out base hits again. The Braves haven't yet tipped their hand on their plans for the 20-year-old phenom, but a promotion to the big leagues by the weekend still seems to be very much on the table. |
Apr 9 2018 | Acuna could be promoted as soon as Saturday, though the Braves have given no indication of whether or not that will happen, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | Arguably the best prospect in baseball, Acuna was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett despite an excellent spring training. Saturday is the earliest that the Braves could bring him up while retaining an extra year of team control. They haven't yet indicated that he'll be up on that date, though that's hardly surprising -- there's nothing to be gained by openly admitting to service-time manipulation, even when everyone can see what's going on. Acuna is hitless through his opening two games, though that won't outweigh the .344/.393/.548 line he posted in 54 games with Gwinnett last year. Preston Tucker is off to a hot start, hitting .370 with two homers through nine games, but he won't be any obstacle for Acuna once the Braves decide it's time to promote him. |
Mar 19 2018 | Acuna was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday. | If spring results were the lone component of a roster decision, Acuna would be in the major leagues. The star prospect slashed .432/.519/.727 with four homers and four stolen bases in 16 spring games, making it abundantly clear that he's major-league ready. Of course, the Braves can claim an extra year of control over the 20-year-old if they keep him in the minors until April 13, likely being a big enough factor to force Acuna back to Gwinnett for a short period of time. Acuna will very likely be back in Atlanta before the end of April barring an injury, so he's still worth an extended look even in single-season leagues. |
Mar 18 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's split-squad game against the Phillies. | The spring training legend of Acuna continues to grow, as he crushed a no-doubter to left field off Zach Eflin in the first inning, then nearly hit another homer to straightaway center field in the third only to be robbed by Aaron Altherr's leaping grab at the wall. The 20-year-old now has four homers and four steals in 39 spring at-bats to back up his absurd .410/.511/.744 slash line, and it's no surprise his NFBC ADP has climbed into double digits over the last week. Expect Acuna to continue seeing plenty of draft helium at least until his status for Opening Day gets officially announced by the Braves, although even an assignment to Triple-A to begin the season may not be enough to slow down the hype. |
Mar 16 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. | The phenom hammered a third-inning offering from Mike Fiers deep to left field for his third homer of the spring and second in as many games, with both homers coming off bona fide big-league pitchers. Spring training stats should always be taken with a full shaker of salt, but it's hard not to buy into the hype surrounding Acuna given his .417/.523/.594 slash line through 14 spring games, with four steals in four attempts to complement his power display and a more than respectable 4:7 BB:K. The consensus best prospect in the game turned 20 just before Christmas, but it's the Braves' lineup that will be receiving a gift whenever the front office decides the time is right to bring Acuna to the majors -- whether that's on Opening Day, or a couple of weeks into April. |
Mar 14 2018 | Acuna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. | He crushed a fourth-inning pitch from Aaron Sanchez to right-center field for his second homer of the spring. Acuna is now 14-for-34 through 13 games, and the only thing standing between him and a starting assignment with the Braves on Opening Day is the desire for one more year of team control on the organization's young phenom. |
Mar 1 2018 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's game against the Mets. | After going 0-for-7 to start the spring, Acuna now has three hits in his last six at-bats. Baseball's top prospect is likely headed back to Triple-A to begin the season no matter how good he looks in camp, assuming the Braves prioritize an extra year of team control over early April results in 2018, but a strong Grapefruit League showing should reassure GMs in re-draft leagues that Acuna will still see significant playing time this season, making his five-category upside very appealing. |
Oct 12 2017 | Acuna was diagnosed with a forearm contusion after being hit by a pitch Thursday, William Boor of MLB.com reports. | This is encouraging news, as Acuna seems to have avoided a more serious injury after being forced out of the Arizona Fall League contest. The Braves will likely send the elite prospect for some testing over the weekend to make sure his injury is nothing more than a bruise, but for the time being, it appears Acuna can breathe easy. |
Oct 12 2017 | Acuna was prematurely lifted from Thursday's Arizona Fall League game after being hit by a pitch near his wrist, William Boor of MLB.com reports. | Acuna was initially able to stay in the game after getting plunked, but he looked uncomfortable on the basepaths and was subsequently removed in between innings. It's possible his removal was simply precautionary -- as Acuna is one of baseball's top prospects -- but that won't be known until he's further evaluated in the coming days. |
Aug 29 2017 | Acuna has been assigned to the Arizona Fall League, MLB.com reports. | While it's certainly not unheard of for a player to be called up after being named to a preliminary Arizona Fall League roster -- Yoan Moncada was promoted last year after being assigned to the AFL -- Acuna figures to simply rest for a bit after the minor-league season concludes before he heads to baseball's "graduate school" for prospects. It only makes good business sense for the Braves to hold off on promoting Acuna, as he's an elite talent and the team will gain an extra year of control by keeping him down until mid-April of 2018. |
Aug 26 2017 | Acuna went 4-for-8 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI across both games of Friday's doubleheader for Triple-A Gwinnett, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. | The No. 1 fantasy prospect in baseball has a .406/.418/.672 slash line over the course of the streak with four homers, five steals, 13 runs and 14 RBI. Acuna's rise up the ladder from High-A this season has been absolutely spectacular, and while the rebuilding Braves have very little incentive to start the service time clock early on the 19-year-old crown jewel of their farm system by giving him one more promotion, he has nothing left to prove at Triple-A. |
Aug 17 2017 | Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI in Triple-A Gwinnett's win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. | It's his third homer in the last four games, and Acuna's now slashing .389/.437/.674 over his last 22 games for Gwinnett, an absurd performance for a 19-year-old at the highest level of the minors. He's not yet on the 40-man roster, but that's basically the only hurdle standing between Acuna and a big-league debut in September. |
Jul 25 2017 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI for Triple-A Gwinnett in Monday's win over Lehigh Valley. | In 12 games since his promotion to Triple-A, Acuna is now slashing .289/.385/.556 with three homers. While the sample sizes are small, the 19-year-old has also impressively improved his walk and strikeout rates as he's climbed the ladder this season in the Braves' organization. Despite his youth, it seems to be only a matter of time before he's up in the majors. |
Jul 14 2017 | Acuna hit leadoff and went 3-for-5 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored for Triple-A Gwinnett in Thursday's win over Charlotte. | The 19-year-old's had a rocket strapped to his back since spring training and his first game at the highest level of the minors looked much like his performances at High-A and Double-A earlier in the year. Acuna's 13 homers, 33 steals and combined .317/.366/.516 slash line in 86 games across all three levels have garnered the attention -- if not outright adoration -- of dynasty league GMs, and while the Braves have no particular reason to rush him to the majors, the organization didn't hesitate to call up Dansby Swanson last August when a spot opened up for him following the Erick Aybar trade. If Nick Markakis gets dealt at the deadline, Acuna could make his big-league debut not long afterwards. |
Jul 12 2017 | Acuna will be promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett, Bill Shanks of Macon.com reports Wednesday. | The 19-year-old Acuna, Atlanta's best prospect, is rocketing up the organizational ladder. Thus far, he has been unfazed by both High-A (.287/.336/.478 in 28 games) and Double-A (.318/.368/.507 in 56 games). Acuna has mashed a combined 12 home runs and stolen a whopping 32 bases in just over half a season's worth of games in the minors thus far. If he can recreate this performance at Gwinnett, we very well might see the 19-year-old in Atlanta before the year is done. |
Jul 8 2017 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI for Double-A Mississippi in Friday's win over Mobile. | The 19-year-old finally hit a rough patch in the middle of June but has snapped out of it in impressive fashion, slashing .373/.400/.544 over his last 15 games with four homers and three steals. The Braves' No. 1 fantasy prospect will get to strut his stuff for the World team at Sunday's Futures Game as part of a ridiculously talented outfield that includes Acuna, the Cubs' Eloy Jimenez and the Nats' Victor Robles. |
Jun 1 2017 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases for Double-A Mississippi in Wednesday's win over Jackson. | In 21 games since his promotion from High-A the 19-year-old has 11 multi-performances and a .534 BABIP, fueling a dizzying .415/.467/.634 slash line with three homers, 15 RBI, 14 runs and 12 steals in 17 attempts. The Southern League is proving to be no challenge at all for Acuna and even though the Braves have no reason to rush their top prospect, a bump up to Triple-A Gwinnett seems like it could happen at any time. |
May 15 2017 | Acuna went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI for Double-A Mississippi in Sunday's win over Biloxi. | Since Acuna got promoted from High-A early last week, the results have been embarrassing -- embarrassing for Double-A pitchers, that is, who are letting a 19-year-old hit .560/.593/.920 against them with two homers and 10 RBI through six games. The Braves' No. 1 prospect has has a little trouble on the basepaths, getting caught three times in seven steal attempts for Mississippi, but given the damage he's doing with his bat any extra value he provides with his legs is just a bonus. If Double-A proves to be no challenge for Acuna, he could be patrolling center field for Triple-A Gwinnett much sooner than anyone expected. |
