May 31 2024Ford didn't accept his assignment to Triple-A Louisville and will become a free agent, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford's three-week stint with the Reds came to an end when he was outrighted to Louisville on Wednesday. Instead of remaining in the organization, Ford will forego the remainder of his salary and will enter free agency. He slashed .150/.177/.233 in 62 plate appearances with Cincinnati.
May 29 2024The Reds designated Ford for assignment Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract just three weeks ago but will exit the 40-man roster after going just 9-for-60 (.150) at the plate. The 31-year-old will undoubtedly clear waivers and could remain in the organization, as declining an outright assignment would mean forfeiting the remainder of his salary.
May 26 2024Ford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will take a seat for the second time in the series while he's fallen into the midst of a slump at the plate. In his last five games, the 31-year-old has gone 2-for-19 and is slashing just .153/.180/.237 on the season.
May 24 2024Ford is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will get the day off with lefty James Paxton on the bump for Los Angeles. Nick Martini will bat seventh and DH on Friday.
May 14 2024Ford went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in Monday's 6-5 loss to Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford made a significant contribution for a second consecutive game. After a game-tying, eighth-inning home run in Sunday's loss to the Giants, Ford hit a game-tying single in the sixth then a go-ahead triple in the eighth Monday. Cincinnati's offense has struggled, so if Ford's bat gets going, he could land a semi-regular role until Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) returns.
May 12 2024Ford went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford's homer tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old has gone 2-for-15 with a walk and two strikeouts over five games since he re-signed with the Reds on May 8 following his release from the organization May 4. Ford slashed .228/.323/.475 with 16 homers and 34 RBI over 84 contests with the Mariners last season, so he may have some power upside if he can claim a regular role.
May 8 2024The Reds re-signed Ford to a one-year contract Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was released from his minor-league deal with the Reds over the weekend after exercising the opt-out clause in his contract. However, the club is now bringing him back and adding him to the major-league roster. Heyman says Ford will report to the Reds on Wednesday, but it's not yet clear what the corresponding move will be. Sending down the struggling Christian Encarnacion-Strand would seem to be a possibility.
Mar 28 2024Ford signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford failed to make the Reds' Opening Day roster despite having an incredible spring, but he will return to the organization on a minor-league pact after testing his options in free agency. The 31-year-old slashed .228/.323/.475 across 251 plate appearances with the Mariners last season and could spend some time in Cincinnati if his bat stays hot in Triple-A.
Mar 22 2024The Reds released Ford on Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Postreports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old was informed Friday that he didn't make Cincinnati's Opening Day roster, so the organization granted his release. Ford clubbed 16 homers in 84 games for Seattle last season and is now looking for a new team.
Feb 23 2024Ford signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Friday that includes an invite to big-league camp, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had a .228/.323/.475 slash line with 16 home runs in 84 games with the Mariners last season before being cut loose in November. The Reds already have a bit of a logjam of quality bats, so Ford is unlikely to see much playing time even if he manages to crack the big-league roster.
Nov 14 2023Ford was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was probably going to be non-tendered ahead of Friday's deadline had he remained part of the 40-man roster mix in Seattle. The 31-year-old served as the Mariners' primary designated hitter for a portion of the 2023 season but batted just .193 with a .663 OPS over his final 130 plate appearances. He'll likely elect free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
Sep 30 2023Ford will hit the bench against lefty Andrew Heaney and the Rangers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford hasn't started once against a southpaw all season, and he won't get to break that trend on the penultimate day of the regular season. Sam Haggerty will handle designated hitter duties in his absence.
Sep 18 2023Ford went 2-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was another quiet day for the Mariners' bats as a whole in the final installment of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers, but Ford managed one of two multi-hit efforts on the day for Seattle. The slugger came into the contest mired in a 1-for-15 skid that had encompassed his prior seven games, and the multi-hit tally was Ford's first since Sept. 4.
Sep 7 2023Ford went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over the Reds on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford struck out in two of his other three plate appearances, but he delivered a 400-foot shot to right with Ty France aboard in the second to erase an early 1-0 deficit and give the Mariners a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Ford has a modest four hits in his last four games, yet three of those have left the yard with the help of his 40.0 percent hard contact rate and 42.9 percent HR/FB rate in that sample.
Sep 5 2023Ford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Reds on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The surging slugger left the yard for the second time in as many games, belting a 388-foot shot to right center in the fifth inning. Ford now has career highs in homers (15) and RBI (30), while his current .840 OPS qualifies as his highest figure since his rookie 2019 campaign with the Yankees, when he mustered a .909 figure across 163 plate appearances.
Sep 4 2023Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Mets on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford went back-to-back with Dominic Canzone in leaving the yard during the fourth inning, allowing the Mariners to close a four-run deficit to one. Ford has reached safely in six straight games, an encouraging stretch during which he's posted a .333 average (5-for-15) with two homers, three RBI, three walks, a hit-by-pitch and four runs.
Aug 27 2023Ford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will take a seat while Teoscar Hernandez gets a day out of the outfield to serve as Seattle's designated hitter. While starting in five of the Mariners' last six games, Ford went 5-for-18 with a home run, four walks, four runs and three RBI.
Aug 26 2023Ford went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Saturday's 15-2 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford capped off a seven-run rally in the third inning with a two-run homer to right field. The 31-year-old had been mired in a lengthy slump prior to Saturday's contest, managing only six hits (one home run) and racking up 20 strikeouts in his previous 50 at-bats.
Aug 23 2023Ford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had served as the Mariners' designated hitter in each of the past three games, but he'll cede those duties to Dominic Canzone in the series finale. Until the Mariners get Jarred Kelenic (foot) back from the injured list, the Mariners should have two spots in the everyday lineup for Ford, Canzone and Cade Marlowe. Ford and Canzone are swinging the hotter bats of the three at the moment and may have an edge on playing time over Marlowe.
Aug 22 2023Ford will bat eighth and serve as the designated hitter Tuesday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was a late addition to the lineup after Julio Rodriguez (illness) was scratched. He has only three hits across 28 at-bats since the start of August while striking out at a 27.3 percent clip.
Aug 19 2023Ford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Astros on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford's sixth-inning blast off J.P. France accounted for the second and final run of the night. The journeyman slugger's round-tripper was his first since July 23, a 12-game span that saw Ford limp to a .063 average and .283 OPS while striking out at a 43.2 percent clip over 37 plate appearances. He's continued to log relatively regular playing time despite the significant struggles, but it remains to be seen how much longer that will persist on a team contending for a wild-card spot.
Aug 15 2023Ford went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in a loss to the Royals on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford entered the night mired in an 0-for-13 slump over his previous five games, and Monday's two-bagger was his first extra-base hit since July 23. The journeyman slugger had been surging at the plate at that point, but he's subsequently experienced a 43-point drop in batting average to .221 thanks in large part to a mammoth 47.1 percent strikeout rate over the following 11 contests.
Aug 4 2023Ford is out of the lineup again Friday versus the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford is slashing just .130/.216/.283 with 25 strikeouts over his last 51 plate appearances dating back to July 15 and seems to have been relegated to a bench role. Cal Raleigh is serving as the Mariners' designated hitter Friday as Tom Murphy handles the catching duties.
Aug 3 2023Ford remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Teoscar Hernandez will serve as the Mariners' designated hitter as they face off against Shohei Ohtani. Cade Marlowe, Julio Rodriguez and Dominic Canzone are starting across the outfield. Ford has posted a solid overall .817 OPS since joining Seattle in early June, but he's fallen into a deep offensive rut in the last few weeks.
Aug 2 2023Ford is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had some big hits for the Mariners in the early part of July, but he is slashing just .130/.216/.283 over his last 51 plate appearances. Cal Raleigh will serve as Seattle's designated hitter Wednesday with Tom Murphy handling the catching duties.
Jul 29 2023Ford isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford is currently in the middle of an 0-for-13 stretch at the plate across his last four games, so he'll take a seat Saturday to regroup. Cal Raleigh will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter, allowing Tom Murphy to start behind the dish and bat seventh.
Jul 24 2023Ford went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a walk in a loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford started at designated hitter and took Alek Manoah deep in the second inning for his second homer in the last four games. The journeyman slugger has cooled off in terms of average over his first 10 post-All-Star-break games -- he's hitting just .222 and has an accompanying .300 on-base percentage over that span -- but he's also posted an impressive .593 slugging percentage thanks to lacing four of his six hits for extra bases in the sample.
Jul 21 2023Ford went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 5-0 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford struck out in his first three at-bats Thursday before launching a two-run homer off Jorge Lopez in the eighth inning, extending Seattle's lead to 4-0. The game was emblematic of Ford's season thus far -- he's up to 10 home runs while slashing .260/.316/.596 despite a 32.5 percent K-rate through 114 plate appearances. While Ford's average isn't likely sustainable, he can be a legitimate source of power in fantasy leagues.
Jul 19 2023Ford went 2-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford broke out of a funk with his first multi-hit effort of the second half, snapping an 0-for-10 slump that had encompassed his previous three games. The journeyman has locked in regular playing time against right-handed pitching with his best all-around big-league stint to date, as he's sporting a career-high .271 average and .934 OPS partly by averaging one extra-base hit every 7.6 plate appearances.
Jul 15 2023Ford entered Friday's loss to the Tigers as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and hit a solo home run in his only plate appearance. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford's 363-foot shot to right field brought the Mariners within a run, but Seattle ultimately failed to score again. The slugger has now left the yard in three of his last seven games overall, a span in which he's posted a .429 average and 1.526 OPS with seven extra-base hits and six RBI across 23 plate appearances.
Jul 8 2023Ford will sit Saturday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford hits the bench after starting seven straight contests, a stretch in which he hit .458 with a pair of homers. Teoscar Hernandez will rest his legs in Ford's usual designated hitter spot Saturday, with Dylan Moore taking Hernandez's place in right field.
Jul 7 2023Ford went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks, four RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 10-1 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford plated two runs with a double in the fourth inning and tacked on a solo shot in the ninth. It's the second time in the last four games he's racked up multiple extra-base hits. The 31-year-old is batting .282 with eight homers, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored and three doubles over 86 plate appearances, and his strong hitting in July is helping him hold down the designated hitter spot versus right-handed pitchers.
Jul 5 2023Ford went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run in a win over the Giants on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford has been trending up at the plate for some time, and Tuesday might ultimately qualify as the crescendo in that hot streak. The trio of extra-base hits means Ford has almost as many combined doubles and home runs (nine) as singles (10) across his 74 plate appearances. Ford's slugging percentage is also now up to a career-high .618, the byproduct of a career-best 48.9 percent hard-hit rate per Statcast.
Jul 4 2023Ford went 2-for-3 with a walk in a win over the Giants on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Ford didn't connect for anything more impactful than a single, his performance is noteworthy in that it extends what has been a torrid stretch at the plate for the journeyman. Factoring in Monday's production, the slugger owns a .391 average, 1.114 OPS, two home runs, six RBI, three walks and three runs over his last eight games, a stretch during which he's also produced three multi-hit efforts and a refreshingly modest 19.2 percent strikeout rate.
Jul 2 2023Ford went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and two walks in a win over the Rays on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford drove in the first run of the game with his timely second-inning knock that plated Jarred Kelenic, and he subsequently kept up his recent constant presence on the basepaths with his pair of free passes. Ford is 6-for-16 with two home runs, four RBI, Saturday's two walks and three runs in his last six games, reaching safely at a .375 clip in that span. Despite a lackluster .214 average and .262 on-base percentage for the season, Ford's notable power upside captured by his .536 slugging percentage helps explain his near-everyday playing time at designated hitter.
Jun 30 2023Ford is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will take a seat as Seattle faces off with left-hander Shane McClanahan on the mound. Tom Murphy will take over at designated hitter and bat sixth in the series opener with Tampa Bay.
Jun 28 2023Ford is absent from the lineup Wednesday versus the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: AJ Pollock will serve as the Mariners' designated hitter and bat seventh with left-hander Patrick Corbin toeing the slab for Washington. Ford continues to draw all of his playing time versus right-handed pitching opponents.
Jun 27 2023Ford went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Nationals on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford played a bit of small ball for a change, driving in Jarred Kelenic with his fifth-inning knock. The 30-year-old journeyman now has nine RBI on just 10 hits over his 53 plate appearances at the big-league level this season, with his six homers naturally playing a significant role and helping afford him regular playing time at designated hitter.
Jun 25 2023Ford went 2-for-4 with two solo homers in Saturday's loss to the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had himself a day Saturday, mashing two solo homers, including a game-tying blast in the top of the ninth off Felix Bautista to send the game into extra innings. The first baseman is now up to six home runs in June to go along with eight RBI and nine runs scored, though he's still hitting a putrid .182 for the month even after the two-homer performance. He's also struck out 16 times this month while drawing only one walk.
Jun 23 2023Ford isn't in the Mariners' lineup Friday against Baltimore, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's been tough at the plate lately for Ford, who is 0-for-17 across his last seven games, so he'll sit Friday to regroup. Cal Raleigh will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter, allowing Tom Murphy to start behind the dish and bat eighth.
Jun 17 2023Ford will sit Saturday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford has stepped into a regular role in Seattle, starting eight of the previous 10 games as the designated hitter prior to Saturday's off day. He's homered four times in 28 plate appearances this season, but he's also gotten on-base at just a .286 clip and has a limited track record of big-league success, slashing .203/.300/.406 across 162 career games. Teoscar Hernandez will serve as the designated hitter Saturday, with Jarred Kelenic sliding to right field and Dylan Moore entering the lineup in left.
Jun 14 2023Ford went 3-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had just three hits in 19 plate appearances this season heading into Tuesday's game and went on to double his hit total. The 30-year-old journeyman went deep in the second and eighth innings for his second two-homer game as a major leaguer. Ford does not have a track record of hitting MLB pitching, but has been impactful for the Mariners early on, slashing .273/.333/.818 with four homers, five RBI, six runs and a 1:6 BB:K over 24 plate appearances. He should continue to get looks in the lineup against right-handed pitchers.
Jun 12 2023Ford will sit Monday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will take a seat as Seattle faces off with southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the mound. AJ Pollock will replace him at designated hitter and bat sixth in the series opener with Miami.
Jun 9 2023Ford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was just Ford's second hit in six games played, and he's added a mediocre 1:6 BB:K. The 30-year-old was effective in the minors, but it's yet to translate against major-league pitching. He hit three homers and slashed .206/.302/.313 over 149 plate appearances with four clubs last year, but he's yet to earn anything more than a part-time role with the Mariners in 2023.
Jun 3 2023Ford, called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, went 1-for-3 in a loss to the Rangers on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old drew the start at designated hitter and was able to contribute a single in his first taste of big-league action this season. Ford generated a lackluster .206/.302/.313 slash line across 149 plate appearances with a whopping four major-league teams in 2022, and even with his success thus far this minor-league season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, it remains to be seen how much he can contribute outside of the occasional power numbers.
Jun 2 2023Seattle selected Ford's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford, 30, has earned his way into a major-league role with the Mariners after slashing .302/.427/.605 with 13 home runs, 11 doubles and 56 RBI across 49 games (211 plate appearances) this season at the Triple-A level. The left-handed hitter could get semi-regular looks at DH, though fantasy expectations should be tempered. He holds a career .201/.301/.387 slash line in the bigs.
Jun 1 2023Ford will be called up by the Mariners on Friday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford forced Seattle's hand by exercising the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract Thursday. The 30-year-old journeyman might prove to be a solid addition to the big-league roster, even as a bench bat, seeing as he's delivered a robust .302/.427/.605 slash line with 13 homers and 56 RBI through 49 games this season at Triple-A Tacoma. As a left-handed hitter, he could potentially power his way into a significant share of the platoon at designated hitter.
Sep 28 2022Ford was designated for assignment by the Angels on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford has been a lineup regular at first base for the past month, but he's been removed from the 40-man roster after he posted a .231/.293/.374 slash line with three home runs and five RBI in 28 games for the Angels. Anthony Rendon (wrist) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move, though the Halos will be down one player for the next five games while Rendon serves a suspension.
Sep 25 2022Ford is not in Sunday's lineup against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford is hitting .242 with one double, three walks and seven strikeouts over his last 10 games. Matt Thaiss is starting at first base and hitting fifth.
Sep 20 2022Ford went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford has endured a difficult September, hitting just .208 (40-for-48) even after Tuesday's three-hit game. This was his third multi-hit effort of the month. The 30-year-old first baseman is up to a .214/.318/.321 slash line with three home runs, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and three doubles through 45 contests, 23 of which have come with the Angels. Despite the poor hitting of late, he's still receiving more playing time than Matt Thaiss at first base.
Sep 16 2022Ford is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford started four straight games before taking a seat for Wednesday's matchup with the Guardians, and he finds himself on the bench again Friday. Matt Thaiss will receive another start at first base.
Sep 14 2022Ford isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Guardians, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford is getting a breather after he went 1-for-11 with a walk and two strikeouts over the last three games. Matt Thaiss will start at first base and bat sixth.
Sep 9 2022Ford isn't starting Friday against the Astros, Edwin Perez of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford is getting a breather after he went 1-for-7 with a solo home run and two strikeouts over the last two games. Matt Thaiss is starting at first base and batting sixth.
Sep 7 2022Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford slugged one of the Angels' three long balls on the night off Tigers starter Eduardo Rodriguez. Since getting a call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Aug. 25, Ford is getting on base at a .357 clip while leaving the yard three times. He'll start at first base and will bat sixth in Wednesday's series finale and looks to have a hold on an everyday role for the time being.
Sep 5 2022Ford isn't starting Monday against the Tigers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will get a breather after he went 1-for-12 with a run, three walks and five strikeouts over the last four games. Matt Duffy is starting at first base and batting sixth.
Aug 30 2022Ford went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second time in as many games, Ford hit a homer against his former team. The first baseman also has four multi-hit efforts in his last six games, with two homers in that span. For the season, he's slashed .226/.351/.339 with two long balls, seven RBI, four runs scored and a double through 72 plate appearances across stints with four different teams. He's settled in as the Angels' primary first baseman, a role he could hold for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Aug 28 2022Ford will start at first base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will pick up his fourth consecutive start after going 2-for-11 with two walks in his first three games with the Angels following his call-up Thursday from Triple-A Salt Lake. With Jared Walsh (thoracic outlet syndrome) done for the season, Ford should serve as the Angels' primary first baseman the rest of the way.
Aug 26 2022Ford went 2-for-4 in a loss to the Rays on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford signed with the Angels on Wednesday and was brought up to the big club the following day. He struck out in his first at-bat but followed with consecutive singles before fanning again in his final plate appearance. Ford should see plenty of playing time with Jared Walsh (shoulder) out for the season after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome.
Aug 25 2022The Angels selected Ford's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, and he'll start at first base and bat cleanup in the Los Angeles' series finale with the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Infielder Phil Gosselin was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Ford, who joined the Angels on a minor-league deal last week following his release from Atlanta. Over 369 career plate appearances in the majors, Ford owns a .192/.304/.391 slash line with 17 home runs. He'll step into the lineup for Jared Walsh, who is on the bench Thursday and could be in danger of losing playing time to Ford in light of prolonged slide at the plate.
Aug 10 2022Atlanta reinstated Ford (neck) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and designated him for assignment. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Ford coming off the 40-man roster and Adam Duvall (wrist) shifting to the 60-day injured list, Atlanta was able to open up spots for infielder Vaughn Grissom and reliever Kirby Yates (elbow), who were both activated in advance of Wednesday's series finale in Boston. It's the fourth occasion in which Ford has been designated for assignment this season, with the Mariners booting him off their 40-man roster twice and the Giants doing so once. The power-hitting first baseman/designated hitter will likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett if he isn't claimed off waivers.
Aug 2 2022Atlanta reversed Ford's option to Triple-A Gwinnett and placed him on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained neck. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since Ford was already moved off the 26-man active roster in the wake of Atlanta acquiring Robbie Grossman from the Tigers on Monday, the change in the transaction type won't dramatically change Ford's timeline for rejoining the big club, provided his strained neck isn't anything more than a short-term concern. Even before the injury surfaced, Ford was having a tough time finding at-bats off the Atlanta bench, as he appeared in just one game during his week-long stay on the active roster.
Jul 24 2022Ford was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will return to the big leagues Sunday, replacing Adam Duvall (wrist) on the active roster after he was placed on the 10-day injured list. Ford has produced a .162 average with a double, five RBI and a run scored over 37 at-bats with the Giants, Mariners and Atlanta this season.
Jul 11 2022Ford was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford failed to get an at-bat while in the big leagues after being called up Friday and he will now return to Triple-A on Monday. The first baseman will remain a top candidate for a potential call up moving forward.
Jul 8 2022Ford was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will return to the big leagues after being sent down Monday, replacing Adam Duvall (personal) who was placed on the paternity list Friday. The 30-year-old has gone 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts while appearing in two games since joining Atlanta in June.
Jul 4 2022Ford was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford served mainly as a depth piece after being claimed off waivers in late June, and he will head to the minors with Eddie Rosario rejoining the big club Monday. Ford figures to be an option next time Atlanta needs to bring up a bat from the minor-league ranks.
Jun 20 2022Atlanta recalled Ford from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford will join the big club for the first time after he had spent the past week and a half at Triple-A when Atlanta claimed him off waivers from Seattle earlier this month. He'll provide Atlanta with a left-handed bat off the bench but isn't expected to usurp either of Matt Olson or Marcell Ozuna for the top job at first base or designated hitter, respectively.
Jun 10 2022Ford was claimed off waivers by Atlanta on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, but he will now join Atlanta's organization and report to Triple-A Gwinnett. The 29-year-old has produced a .182 average with a double, five RBI and a run scored over 33 at-bats in 17 games with the Mariners and Giants this season. Atlanta DFA'd Joe Dunand on Friday to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Ford.
Jun 4 2022Ford was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford came into Saturday having only started one of the past six games and he was ultimately designated for assignment after the Mariners acquired Ryan Borucki from the Blue Jays via trade. He will now either report to Triple-A Tacoma, get claimed by another team or be released outright. Ford owns a .188 average with a double, five RBI and a run scored over 32 at-bats in 16 games with the Mariners and Giants this season.
May 25 2022Ford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Kyle Lewis (knee) making his return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and serving as Seattle's designated hitter, Ford's time as a regular in the Mariners lineup looks to be over. He'll be on the bench Wednesday for the third game in a row.
May 19 2022Ford is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Ford has served as Seattle's primary designated hitter since he was reacquired from the Giants last week, but he'll take a seat with southpaw Rich Hill on the mound for Boston. Ford is expected to lose out on steady at-bats against right-handers as soon as next week, when outfielder/DH Kyle Lewis (knee) could be reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
May 16 2022Ford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Ford will check out of the lineup with southpaw Yusei Kikuchi on the mound, opening up designated-hitter duties for Steven Souza. Ford was an indirect beneficiary of Jarred Kelenic's demotion to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, as the former has proceeded to serve as Seattle's DH in each of the last three games while going 1-for-8 with a walk and two RBI. Once Kyle Lewis (knee) ends his rehab assignment at Tacoma and is cleared to return from the 10-day injured list, one of Ford and Souza will likely lose out on regular at-bats.
May 13 2022Ford will bat seventh as the designated hitter Friday against the Mets after being added to the Mariners' active roster, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was claimed off waivers from the Giants on Thursday and will quickly enter the lineup for the Mariners. The 29-year-old spent six games on Seattle's roster earlier this season but didn't see the field before being designated for assignment and shipped to San Francisco.
May 12 2022Ford was acquired by the Mariners from the Giants on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was designated for assignment Wednesday and will now head back to Seattle, which traded him to San Francisco in late April. He appeared in only one game with the Giants and went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
May 11 2022The Giants designated Ford for assignment Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was dropped from the 40-man roster to clear a spot for infielder Donovan Walton, whom the Giants acquired from the Mariners in a trade Wednesday. If the 29-year-old isn't dealt elsewhere and passes through waivers without being claimed, he'll likely stick around in the Giants organization at Triple-A Sacramento.
May 3 2022Ford was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was acquired by the Giants from the Mariners on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with two RBI during the lone appearance with his new team. Kevin Padlo was recalled from Sacramento in a corresponding move.
Apr 30 2022Ford was shipped from the Mariners to the Giants on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Monday after spending six days on the big-league roster without getting into a game. He'll head straight to the Giants' active roster and will provide depth at first base while Brandon Belt is on the COVID-19 IL. Ford will have to hit better than his career .199/.301/.422 slash line if he's to stick around once Belt returns.
Apr 25 2022The Mariners designated Ford for assignment Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction frees up space on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster for catcher/designated hitter Luis Torrens, who was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Ford didn't see any action off the Seattle bench during his six-game stint with the big club.
Apr 19 2022Ford had his contract selected by the Mariners on Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford joined the Mariners on a minor-league deal in mid-March and was unable to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. He'll take the place of Luis Torrens (undisclosed), who was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday.
Apr 4 2022Ford was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was in camp on a minor-league deal but faced an uphill battle to win a roster spot. He'll serve as organizational depth at first base, but his .199/.301/.422 slash line in 101 career major-league games isn't good enough for a regular role at the position.
Mar 15 2022Ford agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was traded by the Yankees in July after posting a .561 OPS in 72 plate appearances, and he had uneventful stints with the Rays and Nationals the rest of the way before being let go in late November. The 29-year-old made his big-league debut in 2019 and slashed .259/.350/.559 with 12 home runs in 50 games, but he's been unable to come close to matching that success over the past couple years.
Nov 30 2021Ford was non-tendered by the Nationals on Tuesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was claimed off waivers by the Nationals in August, and he'll depart the organization without making a big-league appearances. He struggled with the Yankees earlier in the year and hit .133/.278/.283 in 72 plate appearances.
Aug 21 2021Ford was designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had been spending time at Triple-A Durham after he was traded from the Yankees to the Rays in mid-June. He's slashed .243/.346/.529 with 11 home runs, 31 RBI and 22 runs across 40 games with Durham. The 29-year-old will lose his spot on the 40-man roster but will likely remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
Jun 17 2021Ford was traded from the Yankees to the Rays on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations and a player to be named later. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays have a well-earned reputation for being smart in their acquisitions, so it's often wise to wonder if their interest in a player indicates there's something more than he's shown thus far. That said, there's a big gap between the .199/.301/.422 line Ford has produced in 319 career big-league plate appearances and what he'd need to play a meaningful role. He'll join Triple-A Durham for now, and the Rays have plenty of bats to fill the first base and designated hitter spots, so there doesn't appear to be a clear path to a fantasy-relevant role for the 28-year-old.
Jun 1 2021Ford was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Tuesday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts Tuesday before being replaced by a pinch hitter, dropping his slash line to .133/.278/.283 over 22 games this season. Miguel Andujar and DJ LeMahieu should work at first base for New York until Luke Voit (oblique) can return from the injured list.
May 31 2021Ford is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With lefty Rich Hill taking the ball for the Rays, Ford will sit for the second straight game. DJ LeMahieu will play first base with Rougned Odor manning the keystone.
May 27 2021Ford isn't starting Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford started the first game of the twin bill and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. DJ LeMahieu will shift to first base while Tyler Wade enters the lineup at the keystone.
May 23 2021Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 7-0 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford mashed a massive 447-foot solo shot in the sixth inning to pad an already-substantial Yankees lead. The homer was Ford's third of the campaign and first since April 28. He went 1-for-26 between April 29 and May 16 but has shown improvement over his past three games, going 4-for-8 with a pair of walks.
Apr 28 2021Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford opened the scoring with a second-inning solo shot off Orioles starter Dean Kremer. The 28-year-old Ford has seen only limited playing time in 2021 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in five games. He's only collected three hits and three walks in 21 plate appearances -- good for a mediocre .286 on-base percentage.
Apr 26 2021Ford isn't starting Monday's game against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford homered in Sunday's loss to Cleveland, but he'll retreat to the bench for the third time in the last four games. DJ LeMahieu will take over at first base while Rougned Odor starts at the keystone.
Apr 25 2021Ford went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Sunday's 7-3 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford didn't appear in either of the last two games, but he hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning of Sunday's contest. Across four games this year, Ford has hit .133 with two runs, two RBI and three strikeouts.
Apr 24 2021Ford isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had started three consecutive games after he was called up by the Yankees on Tuesday, but he'll now be out of the lineup for a second straight contest. DJ LeMahieu will start at first base while Rougned Odor takes over at second base.
Apr 21 2021Ford will start at first base and bat sixth Wednesday against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Prior to Ford's call-up Tuesday, the Yankees had been using DJ LeMahieu as their primary first baseman while Luke Voit (knee) remains on the injured list. That opened up the keystone for Rougned Odor, but his time as an everyday player could be coming to a close in light of his 3-for-24 start to his Yankees career. After going hitless with a walk and an RBI across four plate appearances in Tuesday's 3-1 win, Ford will pick up a second straight start against a right-handed pitcher (Ian Anderson), while Odor heads to the bench.
Apr 20 2021Ford was recalled by the Yankees on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees need another first baseman due to Luke Voit's knee injury and Jay Bruce's retirement. Ford has been decent enough in limited action at the highest level, but the fact that the Yankees turned first to Bruce and not to him indicates they don't think too highly of him. He looked good in 50 games in 2019 before struggling significantly in 29 games last year, giving him a career .217/.308/.461 slash line with 14 homers in 79 contests.
Apr 9 2021Ford was optioned to the Yankees' alternate training site after Friday's loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was recalled Friday to serve as a bench option after Gio Urshela was placed on the COVID-19 IL due to side effects from the vaccine. However, Ford didn't appear in Friday's loss and will now head back to alternate camp.
Mar 19 2021Ford was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford struggled in the majors last year but worked with the major-league coaching staff this spring. He went 3-for-19 with a double, two RBI, one walk and three strikeouts over nine spring games this year but will now prepare for the minor-league season.
Sep 29 2020Ford will be part of the Yankees' roster for the AL Wild Card Round against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford had very little success at the plate this season, hitting .135/.226/.270 in 84 plate appearances. He'll presumably be limited to pinch-hit duty because starting first baseman Luke Voit led the entire league with 22 homers.
Sep 15 2020Ford was optioned to the Yankees' alternate training site Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was on the major-league roster since the start of the season, but he saw a drop in playing time recently as he was on the bench for each of the last seven games. With Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) and Gio Urshela (elbow) returning from the 10-day injured list, Ford's services were no longer needed at the big-league level.
Aug 20 2020Ford is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Yankees' designated hitter spot remains open with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) on the injured list, Ford hasn't been able to lock down a full-time role, as manager Aaron Boone has instead opted for a rotation of players at the position. Ford will be on the bench for the third time in four games while Aaron Hicks gets a turn at DH.
Aug 16 2020Ford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI single in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford opened the scoring in the first when he knocked in Gio Urshela with a single. In the third, Ford went deep off Red Sox starter Chris Mazza. The 28-year-old Ford is up to two homers, 10 RBI, three runs scored and a .194 batting average in 11 games this season.
Aug 12 2020Ford went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in a win over Atlanta on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford doubled home a pair of runs in the fifth inning and drove in another with a two-bagger in the seventh. The 28-year-old figures to see his playing time increase with Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a hamstring injury, and Ford has now started consecutive games at DH. On the season, Ford is slashing .227/.280/.455 with a home run and seven RBI.
Aug 9 2020Ford will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter and will bat sixth Sunday against the Rays, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees will give Ford the first chance to replace everyday DH Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday. While Ford should see his overall opportunities increase for the duration of Stanton's absence, the 28-year-old won't necessarily settle into a full-time role. Manager Aaron Boone could elect to use Aaron Judge at the DH spot more often, in which case Mike Tauchman would benefit from more playing time in the outfield.
Mar 29 2020Ford would be a candidate to make the big-league squad if MLB decides to expand rosters when play resumes, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford's place on the Opening Day roster had been in question throughout the spring, and his spot seemed to grow more tenuous with the possible return to health of Giancarlo Stanton (calf) and Aaron Judge (rib) due to the delayed start of the campaign. However, talk of MLB expanding roster sizes to account for a shortened spring training has Ford solidly back in the mix. Per Kuty, the Yankees value Ford's experience and left-handed bat off the bench despite not necessarily needing a backup first baseman.
Mar 24 2020Ford's likelihood of making the Opening Day roster is lessened with the probable return to health of Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge by the start of the regular season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Ford's big bat appeared to give him a leg up on a roster spot prior to the suspension of spring training, the delay to the start of the regular season figures to reduce available bench spots by two due to the anticipated return of both Judge and Stanton. Thairo Estrada, Tyler Wade and Rosell Herrera are all candidates for an Opening Day roster spot, which could bump Ford back to the minors, especially considering his limited versatility in the field. Ford didn't help his chances in spring training as he hit .194 with only one home run during Grapefruit League play.
Oct 4 2019Ford failed to make the Yankees' ALDS roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford recorded a .909 OPS in 50 games this season, including a 1.142 OPS in the month of September. The Yankees will side with Luke Voit and his longer track record despite Voit's poor run down the stretch.
Sep 29 2019Ford is being considered for a spot on the postseason roster, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford lost time to Luke Voit through the first part of September, but Voit's current 1-for-32 slump combined with Ford's strong play has brought into question which player will make the ALDS roster. Through 14 games in September, Ford is slashing .364/.447/.727 with three home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.175 OPS.
Sep 27 2019Ford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a two-run double, a walk and two more runs scored in Friday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford extended the Yankees' lead with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. He also tacked on a two-run double in the ninth. On the season, Ford is batting .257/.346/.564 with 12 home runs and seven doubles across 48 games. His playing time ahead could be limited with Edwin Encarnacion (oblique) returning soon and Luke Voit also available, but until then, he's certainly proving his own potential.
Sep 21 2019Ford went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's 7-2 win over Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Serving as the first baseman, Ford gave the Yankees a lead they would not relinquish with a fourth-inning RBI single, and added a sixth-inning ground-rule double and a second RBI single in the seventh. Despite the productive game, the 27-year-old has a difficult path to playing time with Edwin Encarnacion (oblique) set to return and Luke Voit also available. Nevertheless, Ford is slashing a solid .244/.333/.526 with 11 homers and 21 RBI in just 135 at-bats this season.
Sep 15 2019Ford hit a two-run homer in his only plate appearance in Saturday's victory over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ford was sent to the plate as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and launched a two-run shot to right center field. The 27-year-old has played sparingly in September but has been productive when called upon, batting .294 (5-for-17) with a pair of homers and four RBI this month.
Sep 1 2019Ford went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit walk-off home run in a 5-4 victory against the Athletics on Sunday.
Aug 29 2019Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's win over Seattle.
Aug 26 2019Ford went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI to help the Yankees to a 5-4 victory over the Mariners on Monday.
Aug 25 2019Ford went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.
Aug 22 2019Ford went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Oakland on Wednesday.
Aug 13 2019Ford isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.
Aug 10 2019Ford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.
Aug 3 2019Ford was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, Coley Harvey of ESPN.com reports.

Mar 7 2018Ford, a Rule 5 pick, could act as the starting first baseman if Ryon Healy (hand) isn't ready by Opening Day, Matt Calkins of The Seattle Times reports. At this point, Healy is expected to be ready around Opening Day, but Ford certainly offers plenty of intrigue if he can land a few starts. The 25-year-old slugger has just three hits in 19 spring at-bats, but two of them have gone for extra-bases. He does have five strikeouts, but the four walks he's drawn are also encouraging. Dan Vogelbach is also in the mix for the spot, but a quick return by Healy could make this a moot point.
Dec 14 2017Ford was selected by the Mariners with the 14th overall pick in the Rule 5 draft Thursday.Rule 5 picks rarely end up contributing in fantasy, but Ford might have the best chance of this year's class. He is a 25-year-old first baseman who has never played in the majors, but his numbers last year were awfully impressive. Ford had a .270/.404/.471 slash line with 20 home runs and a 72:94 K:BB in 126 games between Double-A and Triple-A. Entering the season, Ryon Healy and Daniel Vogelbach are ahead of Ford on the organizational depth chart, but they are not imposing figures, relative to the rest of the league's first basemen. Ford will need to be kept on the active roster all season, otherwise he will be exposed to waivers and offered back to the Yankees.
Jul 19 2017Ford (hamstring) was activated off the 7-day DL on Tuesday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Ford was dealing with a bout of hamstring tightness, but the ailment ended up costing him fewer than two weeks. The 25-year-old has hit well in limited playing time at Triple-A, slashing .320/.433/.660 in 13 games. Given the big league club's struggles at first base this year, Ford could eventually be considered for a call up now that he's healthy.
Jul 8 2017Ford (hamstring) was placed on the 7-day DL at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. He suffered the injury in Thursday's game and will now be out until at least late next week. Ford, 25, is slashing .329/.442/.698 with four home runs and an impressive 5:8 K:BB in 43 at-bats at Triple-A and could be an option to plug the Yankees' hole at first base when he is healthy.
Jul 6 2017Ford is dealing with hamstring tightness and will be further evaluated Friday, Conor Foley of The Times-Tribune reports. The club is hoping that Ford will not require a stint on the disabled list, but manager Al Pedrique added that the 25-year-old first baseman is dealing with significant hamstring tightness. Ford has adjusted well to Triple-A pitching since being promoted, slashing .282/.417/.692 with eight extra base hits in 39 at-bats.
