May 24 2018Ortiz (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled list and will start Thursday night with Double-A Biloxi, team broadcaster Garrett Greene reports.Ortiz missed over a month with his hamstring injury, but he is ready to get back on the bump. Ortiz posted a 2.11 ERA and 22:7 K:BB in 21.1 innings over four outings prior to his injury.
Apr 29 2018Ortiz (hamstring) is expected to miss at least two turns through the Double-A Biloxi rotation, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. It was initially expected that Ortiz, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday, would miss just one start due to the tight hamstring, but it sounds like he'll miss more than the 7-day minimum with the injury. Since the hamstring issue isn't viewed as a major concern, the organization is likely just exercising caution by holding Ortiz out for two starts after he dealt with the same injury earlier in his career. Ortiz has been dominant through his first four outings with Biloxi this season, posting a 2.53 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
Apr 28 2018Ortiz was placed on the disabled list with hamstring tightness, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Ortiz has a 2.11 ERA in 21.1 innings for Double-A Biloxi so far this season, striking out 24.7 percent of batters while walking 7.9 percent. He possesses three solid pitchers in his fastball, slider and changeup and profiles as a future mid-rotation or back-end starter.
Apr 12 2018Ortiz tossed six shutout innings Wednesday, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out eight for Double-A Biloxi. The beefy right-hander has been pitching at Double-A since May of 2016, logging a total of 168.1 innings at the level over that span. Given his experience against this caliber of competition, it's hard to get too excited about anything he does until he gets a promotion to the much more challenging Pacific Coast League. That said, the eight strikeouts were a welcome sight, as his season high for strikeouts in 2017 was seven, on one occasion.
Mar 4 2018Ortiz is healthy and looks to throw over 100 innings for the first time in his career in 2018, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Ortiz started 20 games at Double-A Biloxi in 2017, finishing with a 4.01 ERA across 94.1 innings. Manager Craig Counsell thinks highly of Milwaukee's 2014 first-round draft pick and wants him to throw at least 100 innings this season. Ortiz worked on flexibility during the offseason to help prevent injuries, something that's plagued him in the past.
Aug 1 2017Ortiz (illness) has been cleared to start Tuesday for Double-A Biloxi.Ortiz had been running a fever over the weekend, which prompted Biloxi to scratch him from his scheduled turn Sunday. After a couple days off to recover, it sounds like the right-hander is feeling healthy again, so the illness isn't something that should hinder him the rest of the way. Ortiz has compiled a 3.57 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 72:31 K:BB over 80.2 innings in the Southern League this season.
Jul 30 2017Ortiz was scratched from his start with Double-A Biloxi due to a fever, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Ortiz had been red hot as of late, so it's a shame to see him have to miss a start now. However, it doesn't appear to be something that should keep him out very long, so he should just be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 26 2017Over his last two starts, Ortiz allowed one earned run and posted a 13:0 K:BB over 13 innings.Ortiz owned a 4.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP as recently as July 13, but thanks to his last two outings, he now sits with a 3.57 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 17 starts this season. Jun 13 2017Ortiz was placed on the minor-league disabled list with a hamstring injury. It's unclear when the issue cropped up on Ortiz or how serious it is at this point, but he was forced to miss a little time earlier in the season due to a hamstring issue.
