May 3 2024Ruiz had his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz will join the Phillies 26-man roster in place of Yunior Marte (shoulder) who was put on the 15-day injured list. Ruiz has been excellent at the Triple-A level, boasting a 1.64 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP with a 13:3 K:BB across 11 innings. He should slot into a middle-relief role.
Jul 25 2023The Diamondbacks designated Ruiz for assignment on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After giving up three runs over 1.2 innings while serving as Arizona's opener Sunday, Ruiz will be cast off the 40-man roster to clear room for Merrill Kelly (calf) to return from the injured list. The 28-year-old righty holds a 5.89 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through 44.1 innings this year and will now look to join his third team of the season.
Jul 24 2023Ruiz did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits over 1.2 innings against the Reds. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz was roughed up by the Reds in his 1.2 innings of work, allowing five total hits including a solo homer to Elly De La Cruz in the first and a two-run shot to Nick Senzel in the second. The outing continued a rough stretch for Ruiz, who's allowed six total runs across his last four appearances (five innings). Through 38 outings (44.1 innings) split between the White Sox and Diamondbacks, Ruiz owns a 5.89 ERA and a 39:21 K:BB.
Jul 22 2023Ruiz will serve as the Diamondbacks' opener Sunday at Cincinnati, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It'll be a bullpen game for Arizona, with Ruiz likely only handling the opening frame. He's posted a 3.92 ERA and 35:17 K:BB in 39 innings of relief for the Diamondbacks since they acquired him from the White Sox on April 9 in exchange for cash considerations.
May 12 2023Ruiz allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and one walk over one inning in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz has pitched well for the Diamondbacks since being acquired from the White Sox in early April, posting a 3.00 ERA and a 13:1 K:BB over 12 innings before things went sideways Thursday. Most of his appearances have come in low-leverage situations, but that pattern could change. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo talked to Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic about the team's recent bullpen struggles, suggesting some of the "negative role" guys, like Ruiz or Kyle Nelson, could be used in a "positive role." Recent blown leads could be attributed to over-work of Lovullo's most trusted arms, namely Miguel Castro, Andrew Chafin and Scott McGough -- all of whom had appeared in 17 of the team's 37 games entering Thursday. That's unlikely to mean Ruiz will be getting save chances, but he could pitch in higher-leverage spots.
Jan 13 2023Ruiz signed a one-year contract with the White Sox on Friday to avoid arbitration, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz put up a 4.60 ERA for the White Sox last season, although he did fan more than a batter per inning. He'll be utilized in a middle relief role in 2023.
May 9 2022Ruiz allowed one hit and struck out one across 0.2 innings Sunday to record a hold against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning because Liam Hendriks was unavailable. He allowed a leadoff double but then rebounded to retire the next two batters he faced. Even so, Ruiz was pulled after only seven pitches and Bennett Sousa instead recorded a one-out save. Positively, Ruiz did record his seventh hold of the season, and he has maintained a 2.61 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across 10.1 innings.
Sep 24 2021Ruiz (1-3) allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out one across two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz entered the sixth inning with one out and runners on first and second base. He allowed those two runs to score, and he lost the game in the seventh inning to a walk off homer by Oscar Mercado. It was the first runs he's allowed in 10 appearances since Aug. 25.
Aug 11 2021Ruiz (1-2) allowed a run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in one inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz pitched the sixth inning, and he allowed the game's only run on a solo home run by Jorge Polanco. Since the start of July, Ruiz has given up nine runs (seven earned) across 14.2 innings. The 26-year-old has mainly seen a low-leverage relief role with three holds, a 3.57 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 47:18 K:BB through 45.1 innings this year.
Jun 25 2021Ruiz (knee) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning during Friday's 9-3 loss to Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz hadn't pitched since June 19 due to right knee soreness. In his return, the right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Seattle's Jake Fraley in the sixth inning. Through 29.2 innings this year, Ruiz has a 3.34 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB. With just one hold on his stat sheet, the 26-year-old figures to remain in a low-leverage role going forward.
Jun 21 2021Ruiz (knee) was seen riding an exercise bike Sunday and seemed comfortable doing so, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz was removed from Saturday's game and was not available for Sunday's contest despite looking fine on the bike. White Sox manager Tony La Russa was hopeful a stint on the injured list could be avoided.
Jun 19 2021Ruiz exited Saturday's game against the Astros with right knee discomfort and will continue to be evaluated. He allowed one run on two hits across 1.2 innings before exiting. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz came into the game to start the seventh inning and was able to record five outs before he was escorted off the field by trainers. Per Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Ruiz appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain, but it's hard to reach a conclusion about the severity of the issue until the club's medical experts take a closer look at the right-hander.
May 5 2021Ruiz allowed one hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's 9-0 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz has been a forgotten man in the White Sox's bullpen but has pitched well in a low-leverage role. He lowered his ERA to 1.59 with Tuesday's effort and has been unscored upon in eight of 10 appearances.
Mar 30 2021The White Sox plan to include Ruiz in their Opening Day bullpen, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since Ruiz already possesses a spot on the 40-man roster, the White Sox won't need to make a corresponding transaction to make room for him. Over 52 career relief appearances in the majors, Ruiz owns a 5.11 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 49.1 innings.
Sep 25 2020Ruiz was optioned to the White Sox's alternate training facility Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz has spent a pair of fairly short stints on the big-league roster, appearing in five games. He's allowed one run on two hits in four innings of work, striking out five and walking none. Evan Marshall (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Sep 17 2020Ruiz was recalled from the alternate training site Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz hasn't pitched in the major since mid-August but will return to the active roster for the stretch run. The 25-year-old has delivered a scoreless frame in both of his appearances this season.
Aug 19 2020Ruiz was optioned to the White Sox's alternate training site Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz took care of business during his time in the majors as he tossed two scoreless innings, striking out one while allowing one hit and no walks. However, he'll return to the team's secondary site in Schaumburg to make room for right-hander Dane Dunning on the pitching staff.
Aug 9 2020The White Sox activated Ruiz (undisclosed) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll join the big club's bullpen and assume the 40-man and active roster spots of Drew Anderson, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Ruiz made 40 appearances for Chicago last season, posting a 5.63 ERA and striking out 35 in 40 innings.
Jul 16 2020Ruiz (undisclosed) rejoined the White Sox on Thursday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday for an undisclosed, but he was cleared to resume work with the team Thursday. The 25-year-old will join the White Sox's taxi squad in Schaumburg ahead of the regular season. Ruiz made 40 appearances (one start) for the White Sox last season, posting a 5.63 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over 40 innings.
Jul 10 2020Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday for an undisclosed reason. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz and teammate Yoan Moncada were both placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, but the team didn't provide a reason why. If their absences are related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the White Sox legally wouldn't be allowed to say so. It's unclear when the right-hander could return to the field.
Jun 29 2020The White Sox announced Monday that Ruiz will be included as part of the team's 60-man roster pool. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After optioning Ruiz to Triple-A Charlotte shortly after spring training was suspended in March, the White Sox will reverse that transaction with MLB having extended extra roster spots to teams ahead of the 60-game season. Ruiz will provide another depth arm out of the bullpen after he logged a 5.63 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across 40 appearances with the big club in 2019.
Mar 16 2020Ruiz was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ruiz received his first extended taste of big-league action last season and failed to impress, struggling to a 5.63 ERA, a 2.00 WHIP and a 35:24 K:BB in 40 innings of work. If he plays a role in the majors this season, it will likely be a low-leverage one.
Sep 26 2019Ruiz will start Thursday's game against the Indians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Dylan Crease was scratched from Thursday's scheduled start for unknown reasons, and Ruiz gets the call. He'll likely toss the first inning or so before handing the ball to a bulk reliever.

Mar 6 2018Ruiz was optioned to High-A Winston-Salem on Tuesday.Ruiz was claimed off waivers by the White Sox back in December, but he didn't stand a realistic chance of cracking the Opening Day roster given he only pitched one inning above High-A in his career. In 44 appearances, he accumulated a 5.98 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, while sporting a 45:25 K:BB over 49.2 innings.
