Jun 26 2024Cave will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Cave looks to have moved into a strong-side platoon role in the Colorado outfield. He'll pick up a start in the outfield Wednesday for the Rockies' eighth straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher. The 31-year-old owns a .250/.303/.326 slash line with no home runs and two stolen bases over 145 plate appearances on the season, so he'll likely struggle to deliver much meaningful fantasy value even if he continues to see steady playing time versus righties.
Jun 17 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave had started in 11 of the Rockies' last 12 games, but he'll head to the bench with Nolan Jones having returned from the injured list and with Brenton Doyle (knee) back in the lineup after a two-game absence. Though Cave has turned in a serviceable .250/.341/.389 slash line thus far in June, he could be relegated to a bench role now that Colorado has reclaimed some health in the outfield.
Jun 16 2024Cave (head) went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, three RBI and three runs scored Saturday against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was hit in the head during batting practice Friday but returned to the lineup one day later. He participated in Colorado's 16-run offensive outburst in a significant way, and he now has at least one hit in each of his last four starts. Cave entered the lineup with Brenton Doyle (knee) scratched, though he may find consistent playing time hard to come by assuming Doyle doesn't require a stint on the injured list.
Jun 15 2024Cave (head) is playing right field and batting seventh Saturday against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being hit in the head by a line drive Friday during pre-game BP, Cave was cleared for action Saturday and will start in right field. Prior to the incident, Cave had generated a hit in three straight games and owns a .607 OPS on the year.
Jun 14 2024Cave received four stitches after being hit in the head by a line drive during pregame batting practice Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Cave had to be carted off the field following the incident, he said after Friday's game that he felt fine and that there isn't any reason to suspect he might have suffered a concussion. It's possible the Rockies keep the 31-year-old outfielder sidelined for another game or two just to be safe, but a trip to the injured list doesn't seem likely. Cave has slashed .238/.302/.305 with seven RBI through 116 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 10 2024Cave will start in left field and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Twins, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will nab his seventh consecutive start in the Colorado outfield, despite going 2-for-16 with five walks in the first six of those contests. Though he's benefited from extra opportunities with Kris Bryant (ribs) and Sean Bouchard (ankle) recently joining Jordan Beck (hand) and Nolan Jones (knee) on the injured list, Cave is a prime candidate to lose out on a regular lineup spot in the near future with Jones' return seemingly imminent.
Jun 6 2024Cave went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts Wednesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave drew a start in his second consecutive game Wednesday, and he should have the chance to see his playing time tick up in the short term with both Kris Bryant (ribs) and Sean Bouchard (ankle) sidelined. Cave has had limited power production, though he's hit a respectable .247 and has tallied 11 runs scored in 92 plate appearances for the season. Even if his playing time ticks up in the short term, he will likely return to being a bench bat as soon as Nolan Jones (knee) can return.
May 29 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with fellow outfielder Jordan Beck (hand) landing on the injured list Sunday, Cave has seen his opportunities take a hit. The lefty-hitting Cave will hit the bench for a fourth straight game Wednesday, with two absences coming against lefties and two coming versus right-handed pitchers. Sean Bouchard has started in all four of those contests and appears to be the preferred option at the corner-outfield spot opposite Charlie Blackmon.
May 26 2024Cave is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Cave will begin Sunday's contest in the dugout as Philadelphia sends out left-hander Ranger Suarez. Hunter Goodman will start in right field in Cave's stead and will bat ninth.
May 24 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Cave will be on the bench Friday against southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Hunter Goodman will start in right field and bat eighth.
May 22 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll hit the bench Wednesday against right-hander Mitch Spence, the lefty-hitting Cave could still be included in the lineup versus righties more often than not, at least until Nolan Jones (back) returns from the injured list. Cave looked to be at risk of losing out on playing time when Kris Bryant was activated Tuesday, but Cave started in right field in the Rockies' series-opening loss and went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Rather than Cave, Elehuris Montero has been the main loser thus far since Bryant's return, as Montero has sat out twice in a row.
May 15 2024Cave will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Padres, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will start in right field for the Rockies' third straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher and looks to have supplanted Sean Bouchard as the primary option at that position. Despite the uptick in playing time, Cave will likely soon be headed for a reserve role with Kris Bryant (back) trending toward a return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend.
May 8 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave had started in right field in both of the Rockies' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll be on the bench Wednesday while Colorado opposes San Francisco righty Jordan Hicks. Sean Bouchard -- who started the previous two games when the Rockies opposed lefties -- will remain in right field for Wednesday's contest.
May 5 2024Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the lefty-hitting Cave is on the bench Sunday with southpaw Bailey Falter on the hill for Pittsburgh, Cave started in right field in each of the Rockies' last two matchups versus right-handed pitching. Cave could end up occupying the strong side of a platoon in right field with the right-handed-hitting Sean Bouchard until Kris Bryant (back) returns from the 10-day injured list.
Apr 25 2024Cave will start in left field and bat seventh in Thursday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will get a second consecutive start in the corner outfield while Nolan Jones (back) remains sidelined. The 31-year-old Cave went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's 5-2 loss and is slashing just .217/.269/.348 through 26 plate appearances on the season.
Mar 24 2024Cave was traded from the Phillies to the Rockies on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old appeared in 65 games for the Phillies last season and underwhelmed as a bench option with a .212/.272/.348 slash line. Cave should fill a similar role with the Rockies as a depth piece in the outfield and at first base, though he'll have a better path to more regular playing time with his new team.
Sep 16 2023Cave will be on the bench Saturday against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave has filled a platoon role for most of the second half, starting against most righties while sitting against every lefty, but that pattern may be changing. He's now sat four four straight games, two of which have come against right-handers, including Saturday's starter Miles Mikolas. As was the case Wednesday against righty Spencer Strider, it will be Brandon Marsh in left field and Johan Rojas in center.
Sep 15 2023Cave isn't in the Phillies' lineup Friday against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Zack Thompson will start on the mound for the Cardinals on Friday, so the left-handed bat of Cave will remain in the dugout to begin the game. Cristian Pache will start in left field and bat eighth while Cave sits.
Sep 13 2023Cave is absent from the lineup Wednesday versus Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas and Nick Castellanos will start across the outfield for the Phillies as they take on ace right-hander Spencer Strider. Cave has been playing against most righties, but he carries a rough .230/.284/.385 overall season slash line.
Sep 12 2023Cave is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave delivered an RBI triple and a run scored in the second half of Monday's doubleheader, but he'll take a seat Tuesday as left-hander Max Fried graces the mound for the NL East leaders. Cave has batted just .148/.233/.185 in 31 plate appearances against lefties this year.
Sep 10 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave is 3-for-17 through five games in September and will take a seat Sunday against Miami opener Steven Okert. Kyle Schwarber will move out to left field while Bryce Harper rests his legs as the Phillies' designated hitter.
Sep 8 2023Cave is not in the lineup Friday versus the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Marsh will start in left field for the Phillies as Johan Rojas patrols center. Cave has gone 4-for-28 (.154) with 10 strikeouts over his last 12 games and carries a .235/.283/.386 slash line on the year.
Sep 3 2023Caves is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave started the first two games of the series and will sit Sunday against Milwaukee lefty Wade Miley. Kyle Schwarber will man left field while Bryce Harper rests his legs at designated hitter.
Aug 30 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As usual, the lefty-hitting Cave will exit the lineup while the Angels bring southpaw Reid Detmers to the bump. The Phillies will roll out an outfield of Kyle Schwarber, Johan Rojas and Brandon Marsh from left to right in the series finale.
Aug 29 2023Cave is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kyle Schwarber is starting in left field and Bryce Harper will serve as the Phillies' designated hitter as they get set to face left-hander Tyler Alexander. Cave has batted just .130/.231/.174 in 27 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.
Aug 27 2023Cave is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kyle Schwarber will start in left field and bat leadoff with left-hander Drew Rom toeing the slab for St. Louis. Cave has slashed .130/.231/.174 in only 27 plate appearances against lefties this year.
Aug 21 2023Cave is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave slugged three home runs and doubled twice in his last three starts to improve his playing-time outlook, but he will open Monday's game on the bench with southpaw Scott Alexander on the bump for the opponent. Edmundo Sosa will jump into the lineup with several players moving around to account for Cave's absence.
Aug 20 2023Cave will start in left field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Brandon Marsh (knee) is starting in center field his return from the 10-day injured list, Cave will retain a spot in the lineup over Johan Rojas with right-hander Trevor Williams on the bump for Washington. While having Rojas play center field and Marsh in left field would bolster the Philadelphia outfield defensively, Cave may be providing too much value with the bat at the moment to justify losing out on regular playing time versus right-handed pitching. While starting each of the past three games, Cave has gotten on base at a .538 clip and has provided four extra-base hits (two home runs, two doubles).
Aug 2 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll take a seat Wednesday with southpaw Braxton Garrett on the hill for Miami, the lefty-hitting Cave could soon see his opportunities to play against right-handed pitching trend down as well. Cave already sat against Marlins righty Sandy Alcantara on Tuesday, paving the way for rookie Johan Rojas to make another start in the outfield. Rojas will get his fourth straight start Wednesday and has provided a .678 OPS to go along with three stolen bases in his brief time in the big leagues this season. Cave has matched him with three steals but owns a much lower OPS (.596).
Aug 1 2023Cave is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Marsh will cover left field and Johan Rojas is playing center as the Phillies take on right-hander Sandy Alcantara. The left-handed-hitting Cave holds an overall .218/.274/.322 slash line in 96 major-league plate appearances this year and could continue to lose playing time if he's unable to pick it up down the stretch.
Jul 30 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With a lefty (Rich Hill) on the mound for Pittsburgh, the lefty-hitting Cave will retreat to the bench. Cave had started in left field in each of the Phillies' last three games, going 3-for-10 with two doubles, two RBI and a run.
Jul 25 2023Cave is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Marsh will cover left field with Johan Rojas getting the start in center. Cave has slashed just .216/.280/.311 in 82 plate appearances this season at the major-league level and has struck out in five of his last seven at-bats.
Jul 21 2023Cave was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave has hit .222/.286/.333 in 20 games this season with the big club. He's starting in left field Friday and could see some more starts there with Kyle Schwarber used at designated hitter and Bryce Harper at first base.
May 2 2023Cave was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move clears out a 26-man roster spot for Bryce Harper, who is back from Tommy John surgery and making his season debut Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Cave, 30, had batted .222/.286/.333 in 20 games (70 plate appearances) this year with the Phillies.
Apr 3 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies are facing a lefty (Nestor Cortes) for the second game in a row, so the lefty-hitting Cave will once again retreat to the bench. Cave should still have a path to a strong-side platoon role in the corner outfield so long as Bryce Harper (elbow) remains on the shelf, likely until at least late May.
Apr 2 2023Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave received starts in left and right field in the first two games of the season, and he went 0-for-7 with a walk, a stolen base and three strikeouts. Josh Harrison, Cristian Pache and Nick Castellanos will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday versus Rangers lefty Martin Perez.
Mar 30 2023Cave will start in left field and bat eighth in the Phillies' season opener Thursday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave earned an Opening Day roster spot after slashing .440/.481/.820 over 54 plate appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League, and now he gets the honor of being part of the Opening Day lineup for the reigning NL champions. Still, the 30-year-old outfielder seems like an iffy bet to carry meaningful fantasy value here in 2023.
Dec 2 2022Cave was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was claimed by the Orioles shortly after the end of the regular season, but he was placed on outright assignment waivers a couple months later. Now in Philadelphia and coming off a .644 OPS season, Cave will likely take on a depth role in the Phillies' outfield.
Oct 11 2022Cave was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old outfielder slashed .213/.260/.384 in 2022 and will likely compete in spring training for a reserve role in the outfield.. The Orioles designated Jake Reed for assignment in a corresponding move to make room for Cave on the 40-man roster.
Sep 29 2022Cave went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave tallied two doubles in addition to a second-inning RBI single, all off righty starter Johnny Cueto. During his last eight games, the outfielder has turned in a .333 average with three doubles and a triple over 27 at-bats. The 29-year-old has been significantly more productive at home during 2022, recording a .755 OPS over 86 plate appearances compared to a .589 OPS over 64 plate appearances on the road.
Sep 21 2022Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With a southpaw (Daniel Lynch) on the hill for Kansas City, the lefty-hitting Cave will retreat to the bench following three consecutive starts. Cave's absence from the lineup paves the way for Jermaine Palacios to pick up a start in the middle infield while Nick Gordon mans left field.
Sep 19 2022Cave went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The home run was Cave's second of the weekend and his fifth of the season. He'll get a chance to build on that power production in Monday's series finale -- Cave will start in left field and bat seventh.
Sep 17 2022Cave isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave started the last eight games but will get a breather after he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Saturday's matinee. Gilberto Celestino will start in center field and bat fifth during the second game of the twin bill.
Sep 16 2022Cave went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 4-3 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave launched a two-run shot off of Triston McKenzie in the fourth inning and poked a single in the ninth. The 29-year-old outfielder was stuck in a 5-for-34 (.147) skid over 10 games since his last multi-hit effort Sep. 4. Cave improved his season slash line to .212/.262/.404 through 35 games.
Sep 4 2022Cave went 2-for-2 with a triple in Sunday's 5-1 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave entered the game as a pinch hitter for Kyle Garlick in the top of the sixth inning. He made the most of it, recording a triple to lead off the inning, but was later thrown out at home on a fielder's choice. Cave singled again in the eighth inning to notch his third multi-hit game in his last eight contests. In that stretch, he is 8-for-21 with four extra-base hits as he makes his case for increased playing time.
Aug 31 2022Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Due to the ongoing absences of Byron Buxton (hip) and Jorge Polanco (kneecap), the lefty-hitting Cave seems to have moved into the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield. He started in each of the Twins' last three games and went 3-for-10 with two home runs, a double and a stolen base, but he'll take a seat Wednesday despite Boston bringing another righty (Michael Wacha) to the hill. Kyle Garlick will spell Cave in left field.
Aug 30 2022Cave went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's victory over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old got in on the action against Red Sox rookie Kutter Crawford as he drilled a 400-foot shot to centerfield to extend the Twins' lead in the second inning. Injuries have opened up the door for Cave as he has earned mostly everyday playing time since the beginning of August. While he got off to a cold start, he has heated up recently by going 5-for-10 with two home runs over his last four games. He should see regular opportunities in manager Rocco Baldelli's lineup as long as the outfield remains hampered.
Aug 28 2022Cave went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, four RBI and a stolen base in an 8-3 win Sunday over San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave blasted a two-run shot in the fourth and drove in two with a double in the fifth, later stealing third base. After failing to record a hit in 11 straight appearances, spanning 21 at-bats, Cave has multi-hit games in each of his last two contests. He hit seventh and played left field Sunday in just his fifth start in Minnesota's last 15 games.
Aug 16 2022Cave remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave made six consecutive starts and seven in eight games during a stretch earlier this month, but he seems to be behind all of Byron Buxton, Max Kepler, Nick Gordon and Gilberto Celestino in the pecking order in the outfield. He finds himself on the bench Tuesday for the fourth time in five contests.
Aug 7 2022Cave will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will be picking up his sixth consecutive start Sunday, and he looks as though he could continue to hold down a near-everyday role in the corner outfield until one of Trevor Larnach (core) or Kyle Garlick (rib) returns from the injured list. While cracking the lineup in left or right field in each of the previous five contests, Cave went 6-for-19 with a home run, a triple, a double, a walk, two RBI and two runs.
Aug 4 2022Cave went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave's ninth-inning blast had no impact on the result, but he's now hit safely in all three of his games since joining the big-league club. The outfielder is 4-for-10 with a homer and a double in those contests after slashing a solid .273/.370/.509 with 14 homers and 10 stolen bases in 84 contests with Triple-A St. Paul to start the year. As long as the Twins' outfield is plagued with injuries, Cave should have a chance to carve out playing time versus right-handed pitchers.
Aug 2 2022The Twins recalled Cave from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave has posted solid numbers since failing to make the Opening Day roster, slashing .273/.370/.509 with 14 home runs and 57 RBI for Triple-A St. Paul. He'll provide some much-needed outfield depth with Alex Kirilloff (wrist) on the injured list.
Nov 30 2021Cave was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, source reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave recorded a 106 wRC+ across the first three years of his MLB career but stumbled to a 49 wRC+ last season, the product of a .189/.249/.293 slash line. He could return to his former level as a passable part-time outfielder next season, but he has a modest ceiling to pair with a low floor.
Nov 19 2021Cave agreed to a one-year, $800,000 deal with the Twins on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was his first year as an arbitration-eligible player, and this is one of the lower dollar figures a player will accept in the arbitration process. Cave, who turns 29 in a couple weeks, hit .202/.263/.332 with seven home runs in 118 games over the last two seasons.
Sep 29 2021Cave will start in left field and bat eighth Wednesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be filling in for Brent Rooker, who takes a seat after starting in five of the past six games. Since blasting a three-run home run in an Aug. 25 game against Boston, Cave has gone 4-for-24 with no extra-base hits while seeing limited opportunities over the past month of action.
Aug 25 2021Cave went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 9-6 extra-inning win over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old saved his best at-bat for last, launching a towering blast to right-center field to extend Minnesota's lead in the 10th inning. Cave has seen his playing time diminish, and for good reason -- he's gone just 8-for-38 (.211) in August, although two of those hits have left the yard. For the year, the outfielder is slashing just .188/.260/.316 with three homers, eight RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base across 147 plate appearances.
Aug 24 2021Cave will start in center field and bat ninth Tuesday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Cave is back in the lineup for the series opener in Boston, the Twins may have pulled the plug on using him as their primary center fielder. Cave made his previous two starts in right field and left field, with Nick Gordon or Rob Refsnyder getting the nod in center in each of the prior five contests. If Byron Buxton (finger) returns from the injured list later this week, Cave's path to reps in the outfield will become further blocked.
Aug 19 2021Cave went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave slammed a solo homer off Jameson Taillon in the sixth inning. It was just his second long ball of the season with his other one coming on April 23. Since coming off the 60-day injured list on July 25, he is batting .222 without any multi-hit games. The 28-year-old is slashing just .183/.263/.300 with five RBI and 12 runs scored in 134 plate appearances.
Aug 17 2021Cave is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It appeared that Cave was in the process of taking over as the Twins' primary center fielder, but he will now sit in favor of Rob Refsnyder for the third time in five games. Cave is just 2-for-15 across his last six games, and it seems like he's out of an everyday role for the time being.
Aug 11 2021Cave will start in center field and bat sixth Wednesday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Twins appear to have at least temporarily turned over center field to Cave, who will pick up his fourth start at the position in five games. The 28-year-old is holding down a .535 OPS and a 34.2 percent strikeout rate for the season, so he may not have a long leash on a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching.
Jul 31 2021Cave isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave drew two consecutive starts after he returned from the 60-day IL, but he'll now head to the bench for a fourth straight game. Brent Rooker, Max Kepler and Trevor Larnach will start in the outfield from left to right at Busch Stadium.
Jul 28 2021Cave isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with right-hander Wily Peralta starting for Detroit in Wednesday's series finale, Cave will ride the pine for a second straight game. He's gone 2-for-9 with a walk and three strikeouts in three appearances since he was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Nick Gordon will start in center field and bat seventh.
Jul 27 2021Cave is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With a southpaw (Tyler Alexander) on the bump for Detroit, the lefty-hitting Cave will cede his spot in center field to platoon mate Gilberto Celestino. Since returning from the 60-day injured list Saturday, Cave has started in two games, going 2-for-8 with a walk.
Jul 26 2021Cave will start in center field and bat eighth Monday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second game in a row, Cave will stick in the lineup versus a right-hander (Matt Manning), after he went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Angels. Cave looks like he'll get the chance to fill a strong-side platoon role in center field until the Twins get Byron Buxton (hand) or Rob Refsnyder (hamstring) back from the injured list.
Jul 24 2021Cave (back) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Saturday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave suffered a stress reaction in his lower back in mid-May and has been on the injured list since then, but he recently began a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul. He went 11-for-30 with a home run, a double, six runs and five RBI across eight rehab games, and he should serve as a depth option in the Twins' outfield.
Jul 16 2021Cave (back) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday and has gone 1-for-6 with a home run, two walks, four runs and two RBI across his first two games with the affiliate. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will likely stick around at St. Paul through at least the weekend, given that a stress reaction in his lower back has kept him on the shelf since mid-May. Once reinstated, Cave could be a solution for the Twins in center field in the short term until Byron Buxton (hand) is ready to return from his own stint on the injured list.
Jul 9 2021Cave (back) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul next week, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A stress fracture in his back has sidelined Cave since mid-May. He's nearly eligible to return from the 60-day injured list, but he'll likely need a fairly long rehab assignment given the length of his absence.
Jun 24 2021Cave (back) was on the field playing catch before Thursday's loss to Cleveland, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "He's not imminently coming back here," manager Rocco Baldelli said. "He's still got a ways to go." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave is on the 60-day injured list due to a stress reaction in his lower back. It sounds like he's still a month or more away from returning despite this positive step.
May 15 2021Cave was placed on the 60-day injured list Saturday due to a fracture in his back, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was held out of the lineup and unavailable Friday due to the injury, and he'll now be sidelined at least two months. His absence further thins the Twins outfield, with Alex Kirilloff (wrist) and Byron Buxton (hip) also currently on the injured list.
May 14 2021Cave was unavailable for Friday's loss to Oakland due to a stress reaction in his lower back, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He'll be evaluated again Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It sounds like Cave will likely be placed on the injured list as a result. The Twins will likely need to call up an outfielder before Saturday's game.
May 12 2021Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty swinging Cave will head to the bench with southpaw Dallas Keuchel on the bump. Now that Luis Arraez (concussion) has returned from the 7-day injured list to reclaim everyday duties in left field, Cave, Trevor Larnach and Kyle Garlick will have to vie for playing time in right field, while Max Kepler serves as the primary center fielder in the absence of Byron Buxton (hip). The right-handed Garlick should occupy the short side of a right-field platoon, leaving Cave to compete with Larnach for the strong-side role.
May 9 2021Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Matthew Boyd on the bump for Detroit, the lefty-hitting Cave will take a seat in favor of the right-handed Kyle Garlick, who will start in right field and serve as the Twins' leadoff man. Cave and Garlick are likely to form a platoon in the corner outfield until the Twins get one of their three injured outfielders -- Byron Buxton (hip), Alex Kirilloff (wrist) and Luis Arraez (concussion) -- back on the active roster.
May 6 2021Cave isn't starting Thursday's game against Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will be on the bench for a second straight game after he went 0-for-9 with a run and a 1:4 BB:K in his last four contests. Kyle Garlick will start in left field and bat fifth.
May 5 2021Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll be on the bench with a southpaw (Hyeon-Jong Yang) on the mound for Texas, Cave looks well-positioned to fill a large-side platoon role in Minnesota outfield in the short term. Alex Kirilloff (wrist) joined Luis Arraez (concussion) on the injured list Wednesday, leaving Cave and the right-handed Kyle Garlick as likely platoon partners at the corner-outfield spot opposite Max Kepler.
Apr 28 2021Cave is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old started each of the last six games, going 6-for-22 with a home run and three doubles. Though the lefty-hitting Cave will take a seat Wednesday with southpaw Logan Allen on the hill for Cleveland, he looks poised to fill the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield with Brent Rooker until Max Kepler is ready to return from the COVID-19 injured list.
Apr 25 2021Cave went 2-for-4 with two doubles in Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh to raise his batting average to .164. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave has been pressed into near-everyday duty with Max Kepler on the COVID-19 IL and several other injuries, but he hadn't shown much at the plate until this weekend. He's 3-for-6 over his last two games with a home run and two doubles after hitting just .122 (6-for-49) in his first 17 games.
Apr 13 2021Cave was a late addition to the Twins' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He'll start in right field and bat ninth. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Cave was scheduled to sit with southpaw Martin Perez on the hill for Boston, but Nelson Cruz's (illness) late scratch opened up a spot in the starting nine. Though Cave is now picking up his eighth start in 10 games, his playing time is expected to take a significant hit when both Cruz and Josh Donaldson (hamstring) are cleared to return to action.
Apr 7 2021Cave is starting Wednesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was a late addition to the starting nine after Brent Rooker (neck) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll play left field and bat ninth against Detroit.
Apr 4 2021Cave will start in left field and bat sixth Sunday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave looks to be the major beneficiary of Josh Donaldson's (hamstring) move to the injured list Saturday. With Donaldson on the shelf, Luis Arraez is expected to serve as the Twins' primary third baseman, leaving left field open for Cave. He'll be making his second straight start after going 0-for-2 while reaching on a hit by pitch in Saturday's 2-0 win.
Mar 24 2021Cave is in the mix to start in left field after Alex Kirilloff was sent to the minors, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Cave started in center field Tuesday and went 0-for-2 with a walk. He's hitting .143 (3-for-21) with six walks this spring. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will make the roster as the fourth outfielder capable of playing all three outfield spots, but he could begin the first month in a platoon role with Brent Rooker or another right-handed hitter with the Twins eventually expected to call up Kirilloff for everyday duty. We wouldn't worry too much about Cave's spring stats, given he's a veteran set to make the team.
Feb 14 2021Cave could begin the season in a platoon role in left field if the Twins choose to keep Alex Kirilloff in the minors at the start of the season, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will make the roster as the fourth outfielder capable of playing all three outfield spots, but he could begin the first month in a platoon role with Brent Rooker or another right-handed hitter. Kirilloff appears to be the leading candidate for the staring job, but the Twins may keep him in the minors for a few weeks to get another year of service time.
Sep 23 2020Cave went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three total RBI in Wednesday's win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave hasn't exactly been a consistent offensive threat for the Twins this season, and he entered Wednesday's action having hit just two homers all season long. This was also his sixth multi-hit game of the campaign so, even though the two-homer performance was magnificent, there's a strong chance this was an outlier and not the norm going forward for the center fielder.
Sep 2 2020Cave went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and another RBI during Wednesday's win against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave got the scoring started with a solo home run off Reynaldo Lopez in the second inning. The 27-year-old has two long balls on the season, both which have been against Lopez. Overall, he's hitting .225/.286/.352 with 11 RBI.
Aug 25 2020Cave is not in Tuesday's lineup against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has been the primary replacement for Byron Buxton (shoulder) and has a modest five-game hitting streak, although he also has a 7:0 K:BB and does not have an extra-base hit over those five games. LaMonte Wade will start in center field and bat sixth.
Aug 23 2020Cave will start in center field and will bat eighth Sunday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Twins have seemingly settled on Cave as the primary replacement in center field for the injured Byron Buxton (shoulder). Since Buxton was placed on the injured list Thursday, Cave has started every game in center, going 4-for-13 with five strikeouts.
Aug 12 2020Cave went 1-for-5 with a double in Wednesday's win over the Brewers. He's hitting just .143 (4-for-28) with a .558 OPS in eight games this season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave got the start in right field with Max Kepler getting a day off. After getting three hits in his first two games, including a home run, Cave is just 1-for-19 over his last six games with two walks. With Byron Buxton healthy, Cave has moved to a reserve role and will get occasional starts.
Jul 26 2020Cave went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Sunday's 14-2 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave's bases-clearing blast got the Twins' offense started in the first inning and they didn't look back. Depending on Byron Buxton's foot injury, Cave could stick around in the lineup for a bit longer. If the playing time is consistent, the 27-year-old outfielder could make a viable depth option in AL-only formats.
Jul 24 2020Cave is starting in center field and batting seventh in Friday's Opening Day lineup against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave gets the start with Byron Buxton still sidelined with a foot injury. It's odd that Cave is in center field, as last year he typically started in right field with Max Kepler moving to center field when Buxton was out. Either way, Cave looks set for some short-term playing time until Buxton is ready to return to the starting lineup.
Jul 18 2020Cave could get regular playing time in right field if Byron Buxton (foot) isn't ready to begin the season, MLB.com reports. He had a multi-hit game in Friday's scrimmage. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was on the roster bubble in spring training, but he'll make the expanded 30-man roster to begin the regular season. If Buxton isn't able to play when the regular season begins, the Twins will either move Max Kepler to center field and allow Cave to play right field or start LaMonte Wade in center field.
Mar 20 2020Cave will be battling LaMonte Wade for the final reserve outfield spot when play resumes, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It seemed like Cave and Wade were trending toward making the Opening Day roster due to the fact Byron Buxton (shoulder) and Marwin Gonzalez (knee) weren't going to be 100 percent healthy. However, that may be irrelevant due to the long layoff, and Willians Astudillo could get stronger consideration if there is a condensed schedule with fewer off days and the Twins want to keep a third catcher to manage workloads. Cave is a very capable fourth outfielder and hit .261/.320/.478 with one home run and two doubles in 25 spring plate appearances.
Feb 22 2020Cave started in right field and went 1-for-3 in his spring debut in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite a productive season last year with an .806 OPS and eight home runs in 76 games, Cave isn't assured a roster spot as a reserve outfielder even with the expansion of active rosters to 26 players. Cave and Willians Astudillo may be battling for the final reserve spot, but much likely depends on whether Byron Buxton will be ready for the start of the regular season in his return from shoulder surgery.
Oct 4 2019Cave will be on the bench for Game 1 of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave likely has a role to play in this season but won't get the nod with lefty James Paxton starting for the Yankees. Eddie Rosario starts in right field Friday, with Marwin Gonzalez in left.
Sep 30 2019Cave went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave followed C.J. Cron's blast in the first inning with a long ball of his own to stake the Twins to an early three-run lead. The 26-year-old struggled out of the gate this season but found his stroke in the second half, batting .306 with seven homers in 124 at-bats after the All-Star break. He went 7-for-15 over his final four regular-season contests.
Sep 30 2019Cave went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's loss to the Twins.
Sep 28 2019Cave is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave is hitting .220 with zero home runs and zero steals in 15 games this month. LaMonte Wade will start in right field and bat sixth.
Sep 25 2019Cave is not starting Wednesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave will head to the bench Wednesday with a southpaw in Daniel Norris starting for the opposition. In his place, Ryan LaMarre is starting in the outfield and hitting eighth.
Sep 19 2019Cave is not in Thursday's lineup against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He heads to the bench with lefty Mike Montgomery on the hill for the Royals. Ryan LaMarre enters the fray and will hit ninth.
Sep 17 2019Cave will sit Tuesday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave started the last two games after missing a week with groin soreness. Eddie Rosario slides to right field Tuesday, with Luis Arraez in left.
Sep 15 2019Cave (groin) is starting in right field and batting third Sunday against the Indians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave sat out the last seven contests due to left groin soreness but is ready to go for the series finale. The 26-year-old was struggling prior to the injury, going 7-for-41 (.171 average) with 16 strikeouts in the previous 12 contests.
Sep 14 2019Cave (groin) is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Indians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has been doing baseball activities but is not yet ready to return to action. LaMonte Wade will start in center field while Max Kepler starts in right.
Sep 13 2019Cave (groin) isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Indians, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was spotted doing some mobility work and taking swings prior to Thursday's clash, cut he's yet to be cleared for game action. He'll continue to be considered day-to-day moving forward.
Sep 12 2019Cave (groin) took swings in the take and participated in mobility work prior to Thursday's game against the Nationals, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave was held out of the starting lineup for the fifth consecutive matchup Thursday, though he was able to ramp up his activity and checked out OK after. Assuming he feels good Friday, he figures to have a good chance to return to action.
Sep 10 2019Cave (groin) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave hasn't taken the field since being removed Friday with groin tightness. He'll continue to be considered day-to-day until an update on his status is provided. Eddie Rosario moves to right field and will bat cleanup.
Sep 8 2019Cave (groin) remains out of the lineup Sunday against Cleveland, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave left Friday's game due to groin tightness and did not take part in Saturday's contest. Max Kepler will move to right field in his absence, with LaMonte Wade starting in center.
Sep 7 2019Cave (groin) will sit Saturday against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cave left Friday's game with left groin tightness and apparently needs at least one day to rest. Eddie Rosario slides to right field for the first time all season in his absence, with Luis Arraez starting in left.
Sep 6 2019Cave left Friday's game against Cleveland with left groin tightness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: LaMonte Wade replaced Cave and could be in line for a handful of starts if Cave misses time. It doesn't appear as though he's in line for a long absence, as he's considered day-to-day.
Aug 29 2019Cave went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs Thursday against the White Sox.
Aug 25 2019Cave is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Aug 24 2019Cave went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk in Saturday's win against Detroit.

Jul 24 2018Cave is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He appears to be in a pretty strict platoon with Taylor Motter/Robbie Grossman, as Cave has been getting starts against righties and sitting against southpaws. Motter, who hits right-handed, is starting in right field while Max Kepler slides over to center field against lefty Ryan Borucki.
Jul 23 2018Cave is out of the lineup against the Blue Jays on Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.Cave will hit the bench after going 0-for-6 with four strikeouts over the past two games. In his place, Robbie Grossman will start in right field while Max Kepler gets the nod in center.
Jul 20 2018Cave is not in the lineup against Kansas City on Friday, Maria Torres of the Kansas City Star reports.Cave will begin the second half of the 2018 season on the bench after slashing .452/.485/.710 over his past 10 games. This decision is likely due to the fact that the Twins are facing left-hander Danny Duffy, so look for Cave to rejoin the starting lineup against righty Jakob Junis (back) on Saturday.
Jul 12 2018Cave is out of Thursday's starting lineup against the Rays, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Cave will get the day off after recording two base knocks and one RBI in Wednesday's tilt against Kansas City. Max Kepler is slated to bat seventh and man center field in his stead.
Jul 11 2018Cave went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Royals. The triple was his first of the season and it got the Twins on the board in the second inning. The 25-year-old has been seeing fairly regular playing time of late and is slashing a solid .299/.329/.522 over 67 at-bats.
Jul 9 2018Cave is out of Monday's lineup against the Royals. He is hitting .293/.341/.439 with one home run and a 29.5 percent strikeout rate in 41 at-bats during this latest stint with the big-league club, and had started the last six games. Mitch Garver will start at designated hitter while Max Kepler starts in center field.
Jul 5 2018Cave went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Orioles.Cave also had a three-hit outing on July 1, but had gone 0-for-7 with five strikeouts since then. With just 49 at-bats on the year, the 25-year-old has raised his average from .206 to .265 since the start of July. With Byron Buxton stuck in Triple-A Rochester for the time being, Cave should continue seeing regular playing time.
Jul 1 2018Cave will start in center field and bat eighth Sunday against the Cubs, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Cave will make his fifth start in six games since returning to the big leagues from Triple-A Rochester on June 25. The 25-year-old hasn't shown much prowess at the plate with the Triple-A team or big club this season, but his capable glove could allow him to hold down the fort as the Twins' primary center fielder until Byron Buxton (toe) returns from the 10-day disabled list.
Jul 1 2018Cave went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 11-10 loss to the Cubs. His three-hit day gives him just two multi-hit performances in 2018. The 25-year-old rookie has three long balls and a .831 OPS in 39 at-bats this season. Cave is earning more playing time, but hasn't been consistent enough to warrant much fantasy value just yet.
Jun 25 2018Cave will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Cave went 4-for-19 over two brief stints with the Twins earlier this season. He's hitting a respectable .265/.349/.386 for Rochester. He'll fill the bench outfield role which belonged to Ryan LaMarre before the latter was optioned Sunday.
Jun 10 2018Cave went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Angels.Cave got called up from Triple-A Rochester Saturday, and took advantage of an opportunity in the starting lineup Sunday by blasting his second career home run, this one coming off Jim Johnson. For now, he figures to receive only sporadic at-bats as a reserve outfielder if he sticks on the major-league roster.
Jun 9 2018Cave will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester prior to Saturday's game against the Angels, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Cave played in three games for the Twins in May, going 1-for-9 with a home run and two runs scored. The 25-year-old will provide a little more outfield depth for the big-league club though it's unlikely he will receive regular playing time barring an injury or two.
May 24 2018Cave was sent down to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.Cave will head back to Triple-A following the reinstatement of Miguel Sano from the disabled list. In three games for the Twins, Cave went 1-for-9 with one home run and two RBI.
May 19 2018Cave went 1-for-3 with a home run, a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Brewers.Getting the start in center field and hitting seventh in his big-league debut, Cave briefly gave the Twins a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning with his two-run bomb to right field off Freddy Peralta. There likely won't be a lot of playing time available initially for the rookie behind Byron Buxton, Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler in the Minnesota outfield, but if Cave keeps producing when he gets his chances, he could force manager Paul Molitor into some tough decisions.
May 19 2018Cave was called up by the Twins on Saturday and will hit seventh and play center field against the Brewers.Cave, acquired from the Yankees in March, was hitting a solid .265/.355/.356 with a homer and four steals in 155 plate appearances for Triple-A Rochester prior to getting called up. He'll likely fill a bench role for the Twins while he remains on the roster. In a corresponding move, Joe Mauer was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a neck strain and concussion-like symptoms.
Mar 22 2018Cave was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Cave was acquired from the Yankees last week after being designated for assignment. With no room for him in the outfield in the majors, Cave will report to the Red Wings to open the season. The 25-year-old hit .324/.367/.554 with 15 homers across 72 games with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate last year.
Mar 16 2018Cave was acquired by the Twins on Friday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.Cave was available after being designated for assigment by the Yankees on Monday. The 25-year-old outfielder hit .324/.361/.554 with 15 home runs in 72 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year. Kennys Vargas was designated for assignment by the Twins to make room for Cave.
Mar 12 2018Cave was designated for assignment Monday.Cave was removed from the roster to make room for new signing Neil Walker. The 25-year-old had a solid showing in 72 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year, putting up a .324/.367/.554 line with 15 home runs, but he was unlikely to be anything other than organizational depth for the Yankees this season.
Nov 6 2017Cave was added to the 40-man roster Monday, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.Over 71 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2017, Cave hit .324/.367/.554 with 15 home runs. It remains to be seen where Cave will open the 2018 season, but he could certainly make a case to play for the big club if he continues to demonstrate this high level of play.
