Jan 12 2025Cooper agreed to a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Sunday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper had a .566 OPS in 36 games between the Red Sox and Cubs last season and spent much of the campaign at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization. The 34-year-old has experience at first base and in the corner outfield, but he'll likely need a strong showing in spring training to have a chance of making the Opening Day roster.
Jun 24 2024The Orioles signed Cooper to a minor-league contract Monday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was cut loose by the Red Sox earlier this month after slashing just .206/.267/.299 between his time there and with the Cubs. The 33-year-old sports a solid .265/.333/.427 line for his career, but finding playing time on the big-league roster with the Orioles could be a tall task.
Jun 14 2024The Red Sox released Cooper on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign on with a new organization. The 33-year-old has slashed just .206/.267/.299 between the Cubs and Red Sox this season, but with a career .265/.333/.427 line he should draw some interest in free agency.
Jun 11 2024The Red Sox designated Cooper for assignment Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper got a shot at fairly regular reps with the Red Sox between first base and designated hitter, but it didn't work out, as he slashed only .171/.227/.229 with a 22:3 K:BB over 75 plate appearances. He'll get a shot somewhere else if he winds up leaving the Red Sox organization, but Cooper might have to spend some time in the minor leagues first.
Jun 5 2024Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper served as Boston's designated hitter in both of the past two games and went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts. He'll cede DH duties to Rob Refsnyder on Wednesday, and with Tyler O'Neill (knee) returning from the 10-day injured list one day after Wilyer Abreu (ankle) was deactivated, Boston will likely have room in the lineup against right-handed pitching for only one of Refsnyder and Cooper moving forward. Refsnyder has performed far better than Cooper so far this season, so it wouldn't be surprising if Boston opted to make the former a greater priority in the lineup.
May 29 2024Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Baltimore, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tyler O'Neill (knee) is out for a fourth straight game, but Rob Refsynder has been the preferred option at designated hitter of late, even against right-handed pitchers. Cooper has now started just two of the last nine games for the Red Sox, though he missed some time during that stretch due to right shoulder discomfort.
May 26 2024Cooper (shoulder) will bat third as the Red Sox's designated hitter Sunday against the Brewers, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old has recently been battling a shoulder issue, and he's in the starting lineup Sunday for the first time in a week. Cooper has struggled in 16 games since joining the Red Sox with a .205/.271/.295 slash line in 48 plate appearances.
May 24 2024Cooper (shoulder) entered Friday's game against the Brewers as a pinch-hitter and went 0-for-1 en route to a 7-2 loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was late scratch from Wednesday's lineup due to right shoulder soreness, but after a day off Thursday, he was feeling well enough to pinch hit for Dominic Smith in the eighth inning and cover first base during the ninth. Cooper is slashing .214/.283/.310 across 46 plate appearances since joining the Red Sox, and his appearance in Friday's contest could signal a return to Boston's lineup within the next couple of games.
May 22 2024Cooper was scratched from Boston's lineup prior to Wednesday's game against the Rays due to right shoulder discomfort, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The severity of Cooper's injury isn't immediately apparent, but it's bothering him enough to keep him from playing Wednesday. Dominic Smith will enter the lineup to cover first base, meanwhile Cooper will have an extra day to rest Thursday before potentially returning Friday against the Brewers.
May 20 2024Cooper is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has an .860 OPS over his past nine contests but will head to the bench Monday for the second time in Boston's last three games. Connor Wong will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Reese McGuire receives a start behind the plate.
May 14 2024Cooper is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will be on the bench for a second consecutive contest, with the Red Sox shuffling the defensive lineup Tuesday. Reese McGuire will be behind the plate, Connor Wong will man the DH spot and Dominic Smith will handle first base. Cooper is slashing .234/.310/.359 across 71 plate appearances this season.
May 13 2024Cooper is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper enjoyed a productive weekend in the Red Sox's series victory over the Nationals, starting in two of the three contests while producing three hits (two doubles, one single), one run and one RBI over six at-bats. He'll cede first base to Dominic Smith on Monday, but Cooper still looks to be locked into a near-everyday role for the Red Sox until Triston Casas (rib) returns from the injured list.
May 11 2024Cooper is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Washington, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Friday's loss. Vaughn Grissom will shift to DH while David Hamilton gets the start at second base.
May 5 2024Cooper is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Minnesota, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper started the first two games of the series but will sit for the finale after going 0-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts. Dominic Smith will handle first base while Rafael Devers receives a turn at designated hitter.
May 3 2024Cooper started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in Thursday's 3-1 loss to San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was back in action after missing one game due to a right wrist injury. He was plunked by a pitch during Tuesday's game -- his Red Sox debut -- and sat out Wednesday. Bobby Dalbec started at first base Thursday, but he's expected to be optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, which will leave Cooper as the top option at first base. The lefty-hitting Dominic Smith is around to back up Cooper.
May 2 2024Cooper (wrist) will bat sixth as the Red Sox's designated hitter in Thursday's game against the Giants, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper didn't play in Wednesday's 6-2 win while tending to a bruised right wrist, but he'll be back in action for the series finale. Given that he's serving as the Red Sox's DH rather than manning first base, it's possible that the bruised wrist is still presenting some complications with his throwing. With Masataka Yoshida (thumb) going on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, the Red Sox can give Cooper as much time as he needs at DH to heal up from the wrist issue before he's reintegrated at first base.
May 1 2024Cooper (wrist) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will get a day to recover after taking a pitch off his right wrist during Tuesday's contest. While he sits, Dominic Smith will make his Red Sox debut at first base and bat seventh.
Apr 30 2024Cooper (wrist) suffered a right wrist contusion in Tuesday's matchup with the Giants, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning, forcing him to be removed from his Red Sox debut early. The 33-year-old is likely set to undergo some additional imaging on his wrist, which will provide a better understanding of his status moving forward. In the meantime, Bobby Dalbec replaced Cooper at first base and would see an extended role in his absence.
Apr 28 2024The Red Sox expect Cooper to be activated for Tuesday's series opener against the Giants, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Red Sox acquired Cooper from the Cubs for cash considerations Saturday. Boston manager Alex Cora didn't immediately reveal how Cooper will be deployed, but it sounds like the newly acquired first baseman will get the bulk of starts. "Obviously, he's a guy that can put together a good at-bat," Cora said. "He can hit lefties and righties. He's a good defender. We do believe he's going to help us out." Cooper could move immediately to the top of the first-base depth chart.
Apr 27 2024The Cubs traded Cooper to the Red Sox on Saturday in exchange for cash, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was designated for assignment Tuesday despite sporting a .270/.341/.432 slash line through 41 plate appearances. He has no minor-league options remaining, so he will occupy a spot on Boston's big-league roster and should see regular time at first base while Triston Casas (ribs) is out.
Apr 23 2024Cooper was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is slashing a solid .270/.341/.432 this season, which mirrors his career batting line. The Cubs have decided he's no longer a fit for the roster, though, and are expected to replace him with Matt Mervis. Cooper should have no trouble landing a gig elsewhere in short order.
Apr 2 2024Cooper went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, a three-run home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper finished a single shy of a cycle but it was a huge offensive performance nonetheless. The extra-base hits were his first three of the season, and the veteran now has an absurd 1.806 OPS, albeit in a very small sample size. Cooper is slotted behind Michael Busch right now at first base, though the former could push for more playing time if he stays hot.
Mar 28 2024The Cubs selected Cooper's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper posted a .927 OPS with three long balls this spring to secure a spot on the Cubs' Opening Day roster. He figures to mostly play against lefties but offers an option at designated hitter and will also provide protection at first base for Michael Busch.
Mar 22 2024The Cubs informed Cooper on Friday that he made the team's Opening Day roster, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was brought into the Cubs' camp as a non-roster invitee, and he will claim a spot on the roster after going 6-for-26 with two home runs and five RBI across 10 games. He'll likely serve as the primary backup to Michael Busch at first base but could find himself in the lineup regularly against left-handed starters.
Mar 3 2024Cooper is expected to see his first game action of the spring Monday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper joined the Cubs on a minor-league deal at the end of February to give the team depth at first base. Fellow newcomer Michael Busch is expected to be the starter there, and Cody Bellinger can also play first when he's not in center field. However, Cooper could make the case for more regular playing time if he looks good in Cactus League action.
Feb 25 2024Cooper signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Sunday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was an All-Star in 2022 and put together another solid season in 2023, slashing .251/.304/.419 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI and 42 runs over 123 games between the Marlins and Padres. He'll have to settle for a minor-league contract with the Cubs but will compete for a roster spot as a non-roster invitee this spring. The Cubs had a question mark at first base heading into spring training but alleviated some of those concerns by agreeing to terms with Cody Bellinger on Sunday. The team also has young players available to play first base when Bellinger is in center field, as Michael Busch was traded from the Dodgers to the Cubs this offseason, while Matt Mervis made his major-league debut for Chicago in 2023. However, if the Cubs don't feel as though Busch or Mervis are ready to handle regular playing time, Cooper could land on the active roster to provide a veteran presence.
Sep 27 2023Cooper went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Wednesday's 5-2 extra-inning win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper tied the game at 2-2 with his seventh-inning blast. The first baseman logged just his second multi-hit effort in September, a month in which he's gone 10-for-48 (.208) with three homers and nine RBI over 18 games. He's at a .254/.306/.426 slash line with 17 homers, 18 doubles, 61 RBI, 42 runs scored and no stolen bases through 121 games between San Diego and Miami this year.
Sep 18 2023Cooper went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper had struggled recently, going 1-for-13 over his previous seven games, though he had four walks in that span. His second-inning blast got the Padres on the board in this contest. The first baseman has a career-high 16 homers while adding 59 RBI, 40 runs scored, 17 doubles, a triple and a .252/.301/.421 slash line through 115 games between San Diego and Miami this season.
Sep 17 2023Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper finds himself on the bench for the second straight game and the fourth time in San Diego's past six. It appears the 32-year-old won't have an everyday spot in the lineup down the stretch, with Jurickson Profar and Ji-Man Choi in the mix at first base.
Sep 16 2023Cooper will sit Saturday against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper owns a .485 OPS over his last 12 games, well below the .869 OPS he managed over his first 18 games as a Padre. Ji-Man Choi will handle first base Saturday.
Sep 9 2023Cooper isn't in the Padres' lineup Saturday against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is slashing just .237/.281/.405 against right-handers this season, and he'll ride the bench Saturday against righty Cristian Javier. Jurickson Profar will draw the start at first base instead and bat seventh.
Sep 8 2023Cooper is not in the lineup Friday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matt Carpenter will play first base and bat seventh versus the Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown. Cooper has struggled against righties this year, but he should generally be the Padres' primary first baseman over what remains of the 2023 season.
Sep 5 2023Cooper is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Matt Carpenter will start at first base and bat seventh for the Padres as they take on right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Acquired from the Marlins just before the Aug. 1 trade deadline, Cooper is slashing .271/.333/.429 with two homers and 10 RBI in 24 games (78 plate appearances) so far with San Diego.
Sep 3 2023Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been operating as San Diego's primary first baseman over the past couple weeks, and he's succeeded in the role with an .805 OPS in his last 11 games. Matt Carpenter will start at first and bat seventh for Sunday's series finale versus San Francisco.
Sep 2 2023Cooper went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres led from the first inning on, with Cooper's blast in the sixth solidifying their advantage. The first baseman started off a bit slow with San Diego, but he's gone 14-for-41 (.341) with a homer and seven RBI over his last 11 contests. He's picked up playing time since Jake Cronenworth (wrist) went on the injured list. Cooper is a lock to be in the lineup versus southpaws, but he's also gained a starting role against right-handers over the last week.
Aug 31 2023Cooper isn't in the Padres' lineup Thursday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 0-for-9 across his last two games, Cooper will get a day off to regroup during Thursday's series opener. Matthew Batten will start at first base and bat eighth while Cooper rests.
Aug 28 2023Cooper went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Monday's win over St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper knocked a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and added two insurance runs in the ninth. He's collected multiple hits in four of his last five games and has gone 16-for-49 (.327) since being acquired by the Padres. For the season, he's slashing .266/.311/.432 with 51 RBI and 30 extra-base hits.
Aug 23 2023Cooper will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has largely served as a short-side platoon player between first base and designated hitter with the Padres, but he's carved out a larger share of the playing time versus right-handed pitching since Ji-Man Choi (rib) was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 14. Since Choi played his last game Aug. 11, Cooper has started nine of the Padres' subsequent 12 games, and two of those absences came over the weekend while Cooper dealt with a wrist injury.
Aug 21 2023Cooper (wrist) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A wrist injury bothered Cooper over the weekend, but he is feeling good enough to slot in as San Diego's designated hitter Monday night. He will hit eighth against Miami starter Ryan Weathers.
Aug 20 2023Cooper (wrist) was hit by a pitch as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Arizona and was immediately removed for a pinch runner. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After jamming his wrist Friday and being left out of the starting lineup for Saturday's matinee, Cooper felt well enough to pinch hit with the Padres trying to overcome a 6-4 deficit in the final frame, but he was drilled by a 93.8 mph Paul Sewald fastball just above the left elbow. Cooper was immediately replaced by Jose Azocar on the basepaths, but given that he represented the tying run, manager Bob Melvin might have made that move regardless. Cooper didn't make an appearance in the nightcap, but with San Diego now off Sunday after MLB juggled the schedule due to Hurricane Hilary, the 32-year-old will get a chance to heal up ahead of a home series against the Marlins that's still set to begin Monday.
Aug 18 2023Cooper was removed from Friday's win over the Diamondbacks after jamming his wrist, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It doesn't sound like a major issue, but it's possible Cooper won't be available to play during Saturday's doubleheader. That could lead to Matt Carpenter seeing some rare action in the field for the Padres.
Aug 16 2023Cooper is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ben Gamel will serve as the Padres' designated hitter and bat eighth. This appears to be a routine day of rest for Cooper, who has tallied two doubles and a homer over his last three games.
Aug 15 2023Cooper went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper accounted for San Diego's only run of the contest with his 439-foot solo shot to center field in the sixth inning. It was his first long ball and first RBI since joining the Padres on Aug. 1. Cooper had hit 13 homers for Miami prior to the trade but has had a rough time since moving to the West Coast, slashing .188/.278/.438 over seven contests.
Aug 1 2023The Padres acquired Cooper and Sean Reynolds from the Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for Ryan Weathers, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has a .722 OPS and 13 home runs in 82 games this season and will now make his way to San Diego. The 32-year-old could find himself in the short side of a platoon at designated hitter since the Friars also acquired the lefty-hitting Ji-Man Choi on Tuesday.
Jul 28 2023Cooper isn't in the Marlins' lineup Friday against Detroit, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is just 2-for-13 with five strikeouts across his last four games, so he'll sit out Friday's contest to regroup. Yuli Gurriel will take over at first base and bat fifth in Cooper's place.
Jul 26 2023Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After sitting out Sunday's series finale with the Rockies due to an illness, Cooper returned to the lineup for Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Cooper isn't believed to be dealing with any health-related setbacks, so his absence from the lineup Wednesday is likely just a byproduct of the Marlins playing a day game after a night game.
Jul 25 2023Cooper (illness) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will start at first base and bat third in the Marlins' series opener versus Tampa Bay after getting scratched from Sunday's series finale against the Rockies due to a mild illness. He holds a .733 OPS with 12 homers and 44 RBI through 78 games this season.
Jul 23 2023Cooper was scratched from the Sunday's lineup against Colorado due to an illness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was penciled in as Miami's designated hitter Sunday but will instead sit out due to an ailment. The 32-year-old will have Monday's team off day to rest up before the Marlins open a two-game set Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Jul 19 2023Cooper is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will get a day off after he went 3-for-10 with an RBI and four strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Yuli Gurriel will take over at first base and bat fifth as Miami looks to avoid getting swept by St. Louis.
Jul 15 2023Cooper isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday against Baltimore, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's game, Cooper will sit out Saturday to regroup. Yuli Gurriel will take over as Miami's first baseman and bat fifth.
Jul 4 2023Cooper went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 15-2 victory over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper extended Miami's lead to 4-0 with a solo homer off Adam Wainwright in the third inning, his 11th of the year, before driving in two more runs with a base hit in the seventh. The 32-year-old first baseman has swung the bat well recently, going 20-for-58 (.325) with a .958 OPS over his last 15 contests. Overall, Cooper's slashing .255/.300/.436 with 39 RBI and 22 runs scored through 260 plate appearances this season.
Jun 30 2023Cooper (illness) is starting at first base Friday against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to illness, but it seems the issue has now subsided. The 32-year-old has been on a tear at the plate recently, batting .444 (12-for-27) with two homers and eight RBI across a seven-game hitting streak.
Jun 29 2023Cooper was scratched from the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox due to an illness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jorge Soler will slide into DH duties with Yuli Gurriel sticking at first base and Jesus Sanchez being added to the lineup in right field. Cooper can safely be considered day-to-day as the Marlins wrap up this series at Fenway Park before heading to Atlanta for a three-game weekend set.
Jun 28 2023Cooper went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman played a big role in the Marlins' 10-run, 19-hit eruption. Cooper has hit safely in six straight games, and over his last 16 contests the 32-year-old is slashing .322/.365/.525 with three doubles, three homers, five runs and 12 RBI.
Jun 22 2023Cooper went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run in Thursday's 6-4 win over Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was one of two Marlins with multiple hits in the contest, and his eighth-inning three-run blast provided the decisive margin in Miami's comeback victory. The first baseman has been productive over his past four games, driving in six runs and going 6-for-16 at the plate. Cooper has already matched last season's total with nine homers in about half as many games, and he's on pace to surpass his career-best mark of 15 long balls set in 2019.
Jun 16 2023Cooper isn't starting Friday against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been especially productive at the plate recently, slashing .222/.300/.556 across the past seven days. He'll get a breather Friday while Yuli Gurriel takes over at first base and bats fifth.
Jun 14 2023Cooper went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper crushed a 390-foot blast to right off Chris Flexen in the eighth for his second home run over his last three games. Since returning from injury May 14, Cooper has struggled at the plate, slashing .193/.230/.422 with five homers, 13 RBI, 10 runs and a 35.6 strikeout rate. Cooper has shown the ability to make above-average contact in recent seasons but is striking out at a career-worst mark thus far in 2023.
Jun 12 2023Cooper went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His eighth-inning blast to straightaway center field in the eighth inning off Keynan Middleton helped the Marlins rally from a 5-1 deficit. Cooper has seven homers on the season, including two in his last five starts as he looks to shake off a rough May that saw him slash .175/.217/.333 in 60 plate appearances with 20 strikeouts.
Jun 4 2023Cooper went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper tied the game 5-5 with a three-run shot off Paul Blackburn in the fifth inning -- his sixth home run of the year and his third in eight games. Sunday's two-hit performance was the first multi-hit game for the 32-year-old since May 14. He'd gone just 8-for-53 (.151) in his previous 14 contests. Cooper's now slashing .242/.278/.412 with 23 RBI through 162 plate appearances this season.
Jun 2 2023Cooper isn't starting Friday against Oakland, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Friday will mark the third consecutive game Cooper has missed as a result of his cold stretch at the plate. Meanwhile, Yuli Gurriel will make his fifth consecutive start at first base, indicating that the starting job may be his for now.
May 31 2023Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second time in four games, Cooper will take a sit while he remains in the midst of an unproductive stretch at the plate. Over his last 13 games, Cooper has slashed .143/.176/.286 with a 35.3 percent strikeout rate.
May 27 2023Cooper is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will get a breather after going 1-for-5 with a run scored against the Angels on Friday. Yuli Gurriel will get the start at first base and hit fifth in Cooper's absence.
May 23 2023Cooper went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In nine games since returning from an inner ear infection, Cooper has gone 6-for-36 (.167) with four RBI and three runs scored. He's still seeing regular playing time between first base and designated hitter despite the sluggish hitting. For the season, the veteran is slashing .242/.285/.391 with four homers, 17 RBI, eight runs scored, five doubles and a triple through 33 contests.
May 14 2023The Marlins reinstated Cooper (ear) from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is hitting second and playing first base against the Reds on Sunday in his return from the IL. The first baseman missed just over the minimum 10 days while recovering from an inner ear infection. He should return to regular playing time at first base with some designated hitter duties sprinkled in.
May 8 2023Cooper (ear) will take part in onfield workouts Tuesday in Jupiter, Noah Berger of FishStripes reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been shut down from baseball activities over the last few days as he continues to recover from an inner ear infection, but he's since been cleared to resume workouts. A timetable for his return has yet to be established, but this is a clear step in the right direction.
May 5 2023Cooper (ear) is feeling better but remains shut down from baseball activities, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper landed on the injured list Wednesday with an inner ear infection, an issue which had been bothering him for a few days. He should be able to make a quick return once he's totally symptom-free.
May 3 2023Miami placed Cooper on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with an inner ear infection, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper exited Sunday's win over the Cubs and didn't play in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta with what had been called an upset stomach, but he's evidently dealing with a different physical concern. It's not entirely clear whether he'll be ready to return from the IL when first eligible May 12. Yuli Gurriel will likely serve as the regular first baseman for the Marlins while Cooper is out.
May 2 2023Cooper (illness) is out of the lineup Tuesday against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper made an early exit from Sunday's series finale against the Cubs due to an upset stomach and he'll grab a bit more rest and treatment during Tuesday's series opener versus the reigning NL East champions. Yuli Gurriel is at first base and Jorge Soler will be the designated hitter.
Apr 30 2023Cooper left Sunday's game against the Cubs with an upset stomach, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports. he went 1-for-2 before exiting. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper can be considered day-to-day, but with the Marlins off Monday, he should have a good chance at returning to the lineup Tuesday against Atlanta. Jesus Sanchez came off the bench to serve as Cooper's replacement following the latter's early depature.
Apr 29 2023Cooper is absent from the lineup Saturday against the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yuli Gurriel will take a turn at first base and Jorge Soler is in at designated hitter versus the Cubs and right-hander Caleb Kilian. Cooper went 0-for-4 in Friday's series opener and is slashing just .159/.192/.182 over his last 47 plate appearances.
Apr 2 2023Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper went 5-for-13 with a home run, a triple and two RBI through the first three games of the season, but he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Yuli Gurriel will step in at first base and bat fifth.
Mar 31 2023Cooper went 3-for-4 with a triple in Friday's 2-1 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His three-bagger could easily have been ruled an error on Starling Marte, as the outfielder saw the ball glance off the tip of his glove and trickle into the right-field corner. Cooper's had a great start to the season, going 4-for-8 with a homer during Thursday's opener in addition to Friday's triple, and he should be a staple in the heart of the Marlins' order this season while splitting time between first base and DH.
Mar 30 2023Cooper went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-3 loss against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper got the Opening Day start at first base, batting third against Mets ace Max Scherzer. He only notched one hit, but that hit was a two-run shot off Scherzer to tie the game (briefly) in the sixth inning. Injuries have ravaged his career, but Cooper has shown over the years that he can be productive when he's upright.
Mar 14 2023Cooper went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Stephen Nogosek deep in the sixth inning for his first spring homer. The Marlins' recent signing of Yuli Gurriel doesn't really change Cooper's role heading into the regular season, and the 32-year-old is still locked in as the starter at first base. He hasn't quite got his timing down this spring, posting a 1:8 BB:K through 25 plate appearances despite a .333 batting average, but his ability to stay healthy is still his biggest obstacle to consistent fantasy value.
Jan 13 2023Cooper agreed to a one-year, $4.2 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper played in a career-high 119 games last season and had a .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs and 50 RBI. The 32-year-old should be Miami's Opening Day starter at first base and is entering his final year before free agency.
Sep 30 2022Cooper (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is done for the season due to a fractured left finger. Cooper, 31, split time evenly this year between first base and designated hitter and is under team control for one more season. His .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs in 119 games was a little below his previous norms, although he set a new career-best in games played.
Sep 27 2022Cooper was diagnosed with a fractured left pinky finger after he exited Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper went 1-for-2 before he was hit by a pitch on the left hand during the fifth inning, and he was promptly replaced by a pinch runner. The injury should bring an end to the 31-year-old's 2022 campaign with just over a week left in the regular season. He played in 119 games and posted a .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs, 33 doubles, 50 RBI and 37 runs.

Brian Anderson will serve as the designated hitter while Jerar Encarnacion starts in right field.
Sep 17 2022Cooper isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has seen a decrease in playing time recently and will head to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Nick Fortes is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup.
Sep 16 2022Cooper is not in Friday's lineup against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been playing regularly and hitting high in the lineup, slashing .289/.347/.489 with one home run and six doubles in 13 games this month. Jon Berti will start at designated hitter while Bryan De La Cruz mans left field.
Sep 14 2022Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will receive a breather after he started each of the past 10 games at either first base or designated hitter while hitting .289 with a home run, five doubles, six RBI and four runs. Lewin Diaz is manning first base Wednesday, while Brian Anderson gets a turn as the Marlins' DH.
Sep 10 2022Cooper went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took David Peterson deep in the first inning to give the Marlins a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Cooper is heating up again, reeling off three straight multi-hit performances to end a 2-for-32 slump over his prior 10 games since returning from the IL in late August.
Sep 4 2022Cooper (personal) will start at first base and bat third in Sunday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper wasn't available for Saturday's 2-1 loss after he was scratched from the lineup ahead of the contest due to a personal matter, but he'll be back in action for the Marlins for the series finale. Since making his first All-Star Game appearance in July, Cooper has noticed a sharp downturn in productivity while also spending time on the injured list due to a bruised wrist and a concussion. Over his 21 games in the second half, Cooper is slashing just .103/.246/.190.
Sep 3 2022Cooper was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta due to personal reasons, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The specific reason for Cooper's absence has not been announced, so it's not clear if he's at risk of missing multiple games. Jerar Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter in his absence.
Aug 26 2022Cooper (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Friday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper played in two rehab games with Single-A Jupiter this week and is now back with the Marlins after briefly being sidelined by a concussion. The 31-year-old should see regular playing time down the stretch for Miami, especially after Jesus Aguilar was designated for assignment Friday to make room for him on the active roster.
Aug 23 2022Cooper (concussion) reported to Single-A Jupiter to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old landed on the 7-day IL after suffering a concussion last week, but he quickly cleared the necessary protocols and is back on the field. Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Cooper is scheduled to play three consecutive days in the minors before being re-evaluated and potentially rejoining the big-league club.
Aug 19 2022Cooper was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper last saw game action Tuesday against the Padres when he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a hit by pitch, but it's unclear when exactly he suffered the concussion. The 31-year-old will be eligible to return from the IL next week, though he'll first have to fully clear the concussion protocols.
Aug 17 2022Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper battled some calf tightness last week, but he returned to the lineup Saturday and is ostensibly healthy again. However, he hasn't started in four of the Marlins' subsequent five contests, as the team has seemingly made finding more playing time for Lewin Diaz at first base a greater priority. Meanwhile, Jesus Aguilar has supplanted Cooper as the Marlins' top designated hitter as a result, though both players are on the bench Wednesday while No. 2 catcher Nick Fortes get a turn at DH after his two-homer performance in Tuesday's 4-3 win.
Aug 13 2022Cooper (calf) is starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper didn't start Friday's series opener against Atlanta, but he appeared off the bench and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout. He'll start at first base and bat third during Saturday's matinee.
Aug 12 2022Cooper (calf) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper's removal from Thursday's contest due to calf tightness was labeled precautionary, but he'll still end up being held out of the lineup for at least one more game. Jesus Aguilar will serve as the designated hitter while Lewin Diaz starts at first base.
Aug 11 2022Cooper was removed from Thursday's win over the Phillies as a precautionary measure due to calf tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper's calf tightened up while running to first base in the sixth inning Thursday, and he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the eighth. Although manager Don Mattingly called Cooper's exit precautionary, the team will monitor the 31-year-old ahead of Friday's series opener against Atlanta.
Aug 7 2022Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is 1-for-9 since being reinstated from the injured list Wednesday and finds himself on the bench Sunday for the second straight game. Nick Fortes will serve as the desgianted hitter while Lewin Diaz receives the start at first in the series finale at Wrigley Field.

He'll get a rest Saturday, with Lewin Diaz at first base and Jesus Aguilar serving as the designated hitter.
Aug 3 2022Cooper (wrist) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. He'll start at first base and bat second in the Marlins' series finale with the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper appeared in a rehab game at Single-A Jupiter on Saturday and went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. The 31-year-old will rejoin the Marlins after a minimal IL stint and should see regular playing time now that he's back to full health.
Jul 30 2022Cooper (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Jupiter on Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper's recent move to the injured was backdated to Sunday, so he's eligible to rejoin the Marlins as early as Aug. 3. The 31-year-old seems to be trending toward a fairly minimal absence since he's already been cleared to return to game action.
Jul 26 2022Cooper was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right wrist contusion, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will head to the injured list, retroactive to Sunday, after being hit on the right wrist by a pitch Saturday versus the Pirates. The first baseman was forced to miss the last two games with the injury and will now be away from the team until August 3 at the soonest. Lewin Diaz was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday to replace Cooper on the active roster.
Jul 25 2022Cooper (arm) isn't starting Monday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was hit by a pitch while serving as a pinch hitter Saturday and is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench Monday or whether he'll require a trip to the injured list. Nick Fortes is serving as the designated hitter and batting second Monday.
Jul 24 2022Cooper (arm) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper appeared as a pinch hitter Saturday and was hit by a pitch in the right arm, forcing him to leave the game. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but it's a good sign the 31-year-old remains on the active roster after the Marlins made a flurry of roster moves Sunday. Avisail Garcia is resting his legs as the designated hitter while Bryan De La Cruz starts in right field.
Jul 23 2022Cooper was hit in the right arm by a pitch in Saturday's contest against the Pirates, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper entered the game as pinch hitter for Luke Williams in the top of the eighth inning, but he was struck by a 96 mph Wil Crowe sinker and was forced to exit the game. More information on his injury will likely come after the conclusion of Saturday's contest.
Jul 15 2022Cooper (knee) will bat second and play first base Friday against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A bruised left knee kept Cooper out of the lineup the previous two games, though he did appear off the bench Thursday. He's been cold over his last 10 games, striking out 13 times while recording just three hits, but his overall .295/.362/.453 slash line earned him his first career All-Star nod.
Jul 14 2022Cooper (knee) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will be on the bench for a second straight game with a bruised left knee. The 31-year-old was named a first-time All-Star earlier this week, so he'll likely do everything in his power to get back in the lineup at some point over the Marlins' final three contests of the first half to ensure he's able to play in the Midsummer Classic. Avisail Garcia will serve as Miami's designated hitter in place of Cooper on Thursday.
Jul 13 2022Cooper (knee) isn't starting Wednesday against Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was removed from Tuesday's matchup after he fouled a pitch off his left knee, and he underwent X-rays that came back negative afterward. However, he'll be out of the lineup for at least one game while Nick Fortes serves as the designated hitter and bats seventh.

Jul 9 2022Cooper went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-2 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His eighth-inning blast off Drew Smith proved to be crucial, extending the Marlins' lead to 4-1 at the time. Cooper has two of his seven homers on the year in the last four games, and over his last 10 contests he's slashing an impressive .306/.366/.583 in 41 plate appearances.
Jul 6 2022Cooper went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Noah Syndergaard deep in the third inning for the game's first run. Cooper has been locked in since the beginning of June, slashing .368/.414/.538 over 27 games with three of his six homers on the season, nine doubles, 11 runs and 18 RBI.
Jul 4 2022Cooper isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper snapped a five-game hitting streak Sunday when he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, and he'll get a breather a day later. Jacob Stallings is serving as the designated hitter while Nick Fortes takes over behind the plate.
Jul 2 2022Cooper went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in Friday's 6-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games, slashing .339/.375/.458 over that stretch with four doubles, a homer, three runs and nine RBI. Cooper has no speed and only modest power, but his ability to make consistent contact and get on base gives him value in most fantasy formats.
Jun 22 2022Cooper went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper took Chad Kuhl yard in the third inning to record his fifth homer of the season. He's swung a hot bat in June, recording at least one hit in 14 of his 16 starts while racking up two home runs, 13 RBI and eight runs scored. Cooper has maintained a .313/.380/.467 line across 242 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 19 2022Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Even with Jesus Aguilar (illness) on the COVID-19-related injured list, the Marlins will extend Cooper a breather Sunday and have him put a four-game hitting streak on hold. Lewin Diaz will pick up a start at first base in Cooper's stead while Avisail Garcia gets a turn as the Marlins' designated hitter.
Jun 15 2022Cooper isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper started in the last two games and went 2-for-9 with an RBI and two strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Jorge Soler serves as the designated hitter with Bryan De La Cruz starting in left field.
Jun 13 2022Cooper was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Monday and will bat second and play first base against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper hit the COVID-19 injured list Saturday after coming down with cramps the day prior, but he evidently didn't test positive for the virus. That's great news for the Marlins, as Cooper has gone on a .455/.507/.682 tear over his last 18 games.
Jun 11 2022Cooper was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was removed from Friday's game with cramping, but this trip to the IL came without an injury designation. Cooper had been red-hot at the plate, slashing .455/.507/.682 with two home runs over his last 66 at-bats. Jorge Soler is slotted in at designated hitter while Luke Williams gets a start in the outfield Saturday.
Jun 10 2022Cooper was removed from Friday's win over the Astros due to cramping, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper started at first base and went 0-for-2 with a run, two walks and a strikeout to begin Friday's matchup, but he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the eighth inning. The 31-year-old's injury doesn't sound like a significant concern, so he should be considered day-to-day for now.
Jun 9 2022Cooper went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Marlins only managed nine hits in total, so it's not that surprising Cooper's knocks didn't produce any actual offense. It was the 31-year-old's fifth straight multi-hit performance, and over his last 15 contests Cooper has posted a blistering .450/.485/.667 slash line with two homers, eight runs and 13 RBI.
Jun 3 2022Cooper is starting at designated hitter and batting second in Friday's matchup with the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will return to the lineup after missing Thursday's contest with a side injury. He's produced at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, going 12-for-31 with a homer, seven RBI and three runs over that stretch.
Jun 2 2022Cooper isn't starting Thursday against the Giants due to an intercostal injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper is banged up following Wednesday's doubleheader against Colorado, but the team is hopeful that he'll be available off the bench in Thursday's series opener against the Giants. Jorge Soler will serve as the designated hitter while Luke Williams starts in left field.
Jun 1 2022Cooper went 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in a 14-1 win over the Rockies in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Marlins teed off on Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela -- Cooper was one of five Miami hitters to log three hits. The 31-year-old also started in the nightcap, but went 0-for-2 before Nick Fortes replaced him as the designated hitter. Cooper is up to a .282/.361/.429 slash line with three home runs, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored, 12 doubles and a triple in 45 contests this year.
May 28 2022Cooper went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-4 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Ian Anderson deep as the Marlins did all their scoring in the sixth inning. Cooper snapped a 12-game homer drought with the performance, and on the season he's slashing .270/.352/.409 with three long balls and 17 RBI through 40 contests.
May 16 2022Cooper (knee) is starting Monday's game against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper sat out Sunday after he fouled a ball off his left knee Saturday, but he'll be back in action following a one-game absence. Over his last five games, he's hit .263 with a homer, a double, three runs and two RBI.
May 15 2022Cooper (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper fouled a pitch off the inside of his left knee Saturday and was diagnosed with a contusion after X-rays came back negative, and he'll remain out of the lineup for Sunday's contest. It appears he's avoided a serious injury, though the 31-year-old will miss at least one game. Avisail Garcia will serve as the designated hitter while Bryan De La Cruz starts in right field.
May 14 2022Cooper left Saturday's game against the Brewers before the seventh inning after fouling a pitch off himself in the bottom of the sixth inning, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was replaced by Erik Gonzalez, with Miguel Rojas shifting over to play first base. Cooper's status will be updated once the team comments on the injury.
May 9 2022Cooper went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a loss against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper temporarily tied the game in the fourth inning with his solo shot to right field, but Arizona responded with a run in the sixth to claim the win. The long ball was the second for Cooper on the season and accounted for his 11th RBI. He had gone 24 days without a homer prior to Monday.
May 7 2022Cooper was ejected in the eighth inning of Saturday's against the Padres for arguing balls and strikes, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper had gone 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI prior to being tossed. Miguel Rojas shifted to first base and Joey Wendle entered the game at shortstop in Cooper's absence.
Apr 24 2022Cooper went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a run, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 5-4 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has driven in four runs in his last two appearances after being held without an RBI in his previous six outings. Following his second multi-hit performance in 2022, the 31-year-old is hitting .273 with a home run, two doubles, six RBI and four runs.
Apr 23 2022Cooper will sit Saturday against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper sits for just the second time this season. Jesus Aguilar starts at first base, with Avisail Garcia serving as the designated hitter.
Apr 19 2022Cooper (elbow) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, batting second and playing first base, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper left Saturday's game against the Phillies with a bruised elbow after colliding with Jon Berti on an unsuccessful rundown attempt. He didn't play in Sunday's series finale, though that was seemingly precautionary, as he reportedly felt fine. He's fully ready to go following Monday's scheduled off day.
Apr 17 2022Cooper (elbow) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies but is expected to be available off the bench, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was pulled from Saturday's 10-3 loss after he sustained an elbow contusion while running the bases, but he took batting practice in the cage earlier Sunday and seemingly felt no worse for the wear. Though Cooper will be held out of the lineup for the series finale, he's likely just sitting as a precaution. If the Marlins had any concern about Cooper's elbow issue necessitating a stint on the 10-day injured list, the team likely would have called up first baseman Lewin Diaz from Triple-A Jacksonville. With an off day on tap Monday, expect Cooper to make his return to the lineup for Tuesday's series opener versus the Cardinals.
Apr 16 2022Cooper was removed from Saturday's game against the Phillies due to an elbow contusion, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper suffered the injury after Jon Berti collided with him in a rundown attempt. The severity of the injury is unclear, though Cooper initially stayed in the game only to later be removed. Joey Wendle entered the game at shortstop while Miguel Rojas moved to first base.
Apr 14 2022Cooper went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper took Kyle Gibson yard in the fourth inning to knot the game at one. It was Cooper's first extra-base hit of the season, and he entered Thursday's game having collected only four knocks across his first 19 plate appearances. Despite the early struggles, Cooper has been a fixture in the Miami lineup while hitting either second or third in the order.
Apr 11 2022Cooper (wrist) will bat third as the Marlins' designated hitter Monday against the Angels, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper suffered a left wrist contusion Sunday and was originally absent from Monday's lineup, but he'll instead have a prime spot in Miami's order. Avisail Garcia will take a seat on the bench with Cooper joining the starting nine.
Apr 10 2022Cooper was removed from Sunday's game against the Giants in the top of the fourth inning due to a left wrist contusion, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper exited Sunday's matchup after being hit by a pitch, but he underwent X-rays after the game that came back negative. Prior to his departure, he went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Since initial test results have been encouraging, he should tentatively be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's game against the Angels.
Mar 19 2022Cooper looks likely to lose playing time after the Marlins reported signing of Jorge Soler. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper looked like a lineup regular a day ago, but with the addition of Soler the veteran has been pushed down the depth chart. Cooper now becomes part of a crowded Miami bench where he will compete for at bats throughout the year.
Mar 16 2022Cooper is expected to have a regular spot in the Marlins lineup this season, splitting time between first base and DH, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Last season, the National League didn't feature the DH, and as a result Cooper ended up seeing significant action in right field as manager Don Mattingly attempted to get his bat into the lineup. That experiment ended in July when he injured his left (non-throwing) elbow and was shut down for the season, but Cooper is healthy to begin spring training, and with the DH available again his defensive duties will be far more limited in 2022. The 31-year-old has a career .282/.354/.453 slash line through 887 plate appearances in the majors, and he could have surprising fantasy value with consistent playing time.
Jul 28 2021Cooper will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a partial UCL tear in his left elbow, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper landed on the injured list July 19 with a sprained left elbow, and he'll opt to undergo surgery after being evaluated by multiple doctors. The procedure carries a 3-to-4 month recovery timeline, so he should be healthy for the start of spring training in February if all goes well in his recovery.
Jul 19 2021Cooper was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left elbow, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper exited Sunday's loss to the Phillies with the injury and will be sidelined for at least 10 days. An MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis, per De Nicola, though it's unclear how long the 30-year-old is expected to be sidelined.
Jul 18 2021Cooper will receive an MRI on his left elbow Monday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was removed from Sunday's loss in the bottom of the eighth inning after Travis Jankowski ran into his elbow on his way to first base. A better idea of the 30-year-old's status could be revealed once the results of his MRI are known.
Jul 8 2021Cooper went 3-for-3 with a walk and two solo home runs in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Jake Reed deep in the first inning and Phil Bickford in the sixth, feasting on the lesser names in the Los Angeles bullpen. Cooper is batting a dizzying .483 (14-for-29) in 11 games since returning from the IL while slugging four of his nine homers on the year.
Jul 4 2021Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His sixth-inning solo shot off Kyle Muller proved to be the game-winning hit. Cooper has two of his seven homers on the year in seven games since returning from a lumbar strain, a stretch during which he's gone 10-for-19 (.526) with two doubles, six walks, six runs and six RBI in addition to the long balls.
Jul 1 2021Cooper went 3-for-6 with a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting the start at first base and hitting third, Cooper was one of five Marlins on the night to deliver a multi-hit performance. The 30-year-old has started three of five games since coming off the IL, going 7-for-13 with a homer, two doubles, four RBI and five runs. However, despite his hot streak Cooper will likely continue splitting reps at first base with Jesus Aguilar as there seems to be little room for him in the Miami outfield with Jesus Sanchez getting a long look in left.
Jun 25 2021Cooper went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, two doubles, three additional runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper returned from the 10-day injured list and made his presence felt right away, as all of his three hits were extra-base knocks and was one of the best players in a game where the Marlins recorded 11 runs and 11 hits across 36 at-bats. The first baseman also ended a 12-game homer drought with his two-run shot in the eighth inning.
Jun 23 2021Cooper (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been sidelined since June 9 due to a lumbar strain, but he began hitting off a tee Friday and will now return to game action. It's not yet clear how many rehab games the 30-year-old could require, but his time with Triple-A Jacksonville will likely be the final step in his recovery process. Cooper served as a short-side platoon option prior to his absence, but he could see a slight uptick in at-bats once he's cleared to return since Corey Dickerson (foot) is on the injured list.
Jun 21 2021Cooper (back) started a throwing program and began hitting off a tee Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been cleared to resume baseball activities after he was placed on the 10-day injured list June 9 with a lumbar strain. The Marlins may want to see Cooper complete a brief minor-league rehab assignment before activating him from the IL, so he could be challenged to rejoin the big club by the end of June.
Jun 9 2021The Marlins placed Cooper on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a lumbar strain, David Wilson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Miami will bring up Lewin Diaz from Triple-A Jacksonville to fill Cooper's role as a reserve first baseman behind Jesus Aguilar. Cooper had been battling back stiffness heading into the weekend before joining the lineup Monday in Boston, so he may have suffered a related setback in that contest. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on June 18.
Jun 7 2021Marlins manager Don Mattingly said that Cooper (back) will start at first base in Monday's game in Boston, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper returns to the starting nine after a case of back stiffness caused him to miss the final two games of the Marlins' weekend series with the Pirates. Though he'll be stepping in at first base for Jesus Aguilar on Monday, Cooper will likely see most of his starts in the corner outfield when the Marlins are playing in National League parks.
Jun 6 2021Cooper (back) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Don Mattingly revealed that a stiff back forced Cooper out of the lineup Saturday, and it now looks like he'll have to sit again Sunday. Jesus Aguilar will get the start at first base and bat fourth. It's not known at this point if Cooper could be available off the bench.
Jun 5 2021Manager Don Mattingly said that Cooper didn't play in Saturday's loss to the Pirates due to back stiffness, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mattingly didn't go into depth on the extent of back issue, but at this point it doesn't appear to be a major issue that could sideline Cooper for an extended period. It's unknown at this point if first baseman will be available Sunday and for the time being he can be considered day-to-day.
Jun 3 2021Cooper will start in right field and bat cleanup Thursday against the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will pick up his fifth start in a row, but it's worth noting that the Marlins had the designated hitter available in each of the previous four games. He'll stick in the lineup Thursday over the lefty-hitting Corey Dickerson with a southpaw (Tyler Anderson) on the hill for Pittsburgh, but Cooper could still have to settle for a short-side platoon role when the Marlins are playing in National League parks.
May 27 2021Cooper (oblique) was able to pinch-hit Thursday and had an RBI single. Cooper also was able to stay in the game and play an inning in right field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It seems as if all is well for Cooper, but the Marlins were also playing short-handed Thursday after multiple injuries this week, culminating in catcher Jorge Alfaro having to play in the outfield at the end of the game. They're likely to get Starling Marte back over the weekend, which will ease some of the pressure in the lineup, including potentially giving Cooper another day if needed.
May 26 2021Cooper was removed from Wednesday's lineup with right olbique tightness, Andre Fernandez of Sirius XM Radio reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will miss the contest while in the midst of a 16-for-36 stretch that includes three homers and 10 RBI and has encompassed his last 10 games. Adam Duvall will fill in for Cooper in right field Wednesday.
May 22 2021Cooper went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old is red hot, homering for the third straight game, and this one carried some extra oomph as he took Drew Smith deep in the ninth inning for a walkoff shot. Cooper has a seven-game hitting streak going as well, and the surge has pushed his slash line on the season to .242/.306/.417 with five home runs and 19 RBI through 41 contests.
May 20 2021Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 6-0 win over Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old went yard with a two-run home run in the fourth inning and added an RBI triple in the sixth. Cooper also reached on an error in the seventh that led to Miami's sixth and final run of the game. He's hit safely in his last five games, going 7-for-20 (.350) in that span. The first baseman/outfielder has three homers, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and a .220/.289/.350 slash line across 135 plate appearances.
May 18 2021Cooper is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper will head to the bench after going 4-for-12 with a pair of doubles and a walk while starting in each of the past three games. Though he's starting to heat up after a brutal start to the season, Cooper still appears to be behind Jesus Aguilar for work at first base and Corey Dickerson and Adam Duvall for work at the corner-outfield spots.
May 5 2021Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper picked up eight straight starts -- including seven in right field -- from April 23 through Sunday, but he's been on the bench for both of the Marlins' first two games of their series with Arizona. Though manager Don Mattingly had previously been able to fit Cooper into the outfield by shifting Adam Duvall over to center field, Lewis Brinson has instead emerged as the primary option in center of late. Duvall and Corey Dickerson look poised to serve as the Marlins' main corner outfielders against right-handed pitching, so Cooper may be stuck in a short-side platoon role for the time being.
Apr 30 2021Cooper (foot) went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in Friday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper didn't end up missing a game after fouling a ball off of his foot Wednesday. He knocked in Miami's lone run Friday, plating Jose Devers with a 10th-inning single. The 30-year-old Cooper has a .197/.288/.324 slash line with two home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and no stolen bases across 80 plate appearances this year. He has a near-everyday role in right field while Adam Duvall is covering for Starling Marte (ribs) in center field.
Apr 28 2021Cooper underwent X-rays on his left foot Wednesday that came back negative, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper fouled a ball off his left foot in the top of the fourth inning Wednesday and was replaced in the bottom half of the frame after he grounded out to end the inning. He's been diagnosed with left foot soreness and is considered day-to-day. The Marlins have a scheduled day off Thursday, so Cooper will have a day to recover prior to Friday's series opener in Washington.
Apr 27 2021Cooper went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs in Monday's win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Angel Perdomo deep in the ninth inning to cap the scoring on the night. The 30-year-old is only slashing .200/.294/.350 through 20 games with two homers and nine RBI, but with Adam Duvall seeing more action in center field while Starling Marte (ribs) is sidelined, right field has opened up on a regular basis for Cooper.
Apr 23 2021Cooper (groin) is starting Friday's game against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper wasn't in the lineup for the last two games but struck out in his lone at-bat as a pinch hitter Thursday. He'll start in right field and bat fourth in Friday's contest against San Francisco.
Apr 22 2021Cooper (groin) could return to the team's lineup Friday against the Giants, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was out of the lineup as the team wrapped up their series against Baltimore on Wednesday and appears headed for another absence Thursday. However, the move to hold him out of game action was deemed precautionary, so Cooper should be back quickly.
Apr 21 2021Manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday that Cooper is "a little nicked up" with a groin injury, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper didn't appear in Wednesday's win over Baltimore, and Mattingly revealed after the game that the 30-year-old was held out as a precautionary measure. Mattingly didn't sound too concerned about Cooper's injury, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Thursday's series opener against the Giants.
Apr 13 2021Cooper went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Monday's win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He played hero for Miami in this one, with his two-run double in eighth inning tying the game at 3-3 before he brought Jon Berti home with a single for the game-winning run in the top of the 10th. Cooper already has two three-hit performances this season but doesn't have any other knocks, leaving him with a .240 batting average, and his 4:11 BB:K through eight games suggests he hasn't quite locked in his swing yet.
Apr 6 2021Cooper (COVID vaccine reaction) is batting third and starting at first base Tuesday against the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed Monday's game due to his reaction to the coronavirus vaccine, but it was a very brief absence. Cooper is 3-for-9 with one home run this year and has been seeing time primarily as the Marlins' right fielder.
Apr 5 2021Cooper was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Monday due to his reaction to the coronavirus vaccine, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com, Cooper's absence isn't expected to be a long one, and he could return as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday. League rules allow a team to call up an additional player when someone is sidelined for even a brief period due to COVID-19-related issues, however, so the Marlins will add Jordan Holloway to the roster in his absence.
Mar 26 2021Cooper got the start in right field and hit cleanup in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, going 1-for-3 with a home run. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Corey Dickerson (shoulder) held out for one more game, Cooper got some work in the outfield and took Nats closer Brad Hand deep in the third inning for his second homer of the spring. Cooper is expected to begin the season on the bench but spot in at first base and in the outfield corners on a semi-regular basis, and his .382/.417/.647 slash line through 36 Grapefruit League plate appearances suggests he could be hard to get out of the lineup if he stays hot straight through Opening Day.
Feb 23 2021Cooper is expected to split playing time at first base with Jesus Aguilar to begin the season, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: "In general, we feel like we are going to get both of those guys a lot of at-bats with a combination of first base and outfield," manager Don Mattingly said. "Days off for different guys. We want both of these guys in the lineup as much as possible." The 30-year-old Cooper could also see reps in right field, but the offseason addition of Adam Duvall will likely limit how much time is available for other players in right. As a result, it might take a trade, or the last-minute re-introduction of the DH to the National League, for either Cooper or Aguilar to see anything close to a full-time role, even before considering the potential presence of prospect Lewin Diaz in the mix. Cooper certainly earned a significant role in Miami after posting a .281/.347/.459 slash line in 141 games over the last two seasons.
Dec 2 2020Cooper agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million contract with the Marlins on Wednesday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He can earn up to $2.05 million with performance bonuses. Jesus Aguilar is also back on a one-year deal, so ideally the designated hitter will remain in the National League going forward. Cooper may have flown under the radar last season, but his .283/.353/.500 slash line and six home runs in 34 games was pretty impressive. He should enter the year with near everyday playing time and a spot in the middle of Miami's lineup.
Sep 27 2020Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper had started each of the Marlins' previous 24 games, slashing .289/.379/.482 with four home runs, 12 RBI and 17 runs during that stretch. With Miami having already clinched its spot in the postseason, Cooper will receive a well-deserved breather in the regular-season finale.
Sep 26 2020Cooper went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper wasted no time getting going as he connected with the first pitch he saw to put the Marlins up 3-0 in the first. The 29-year-old has played a major role in Miami's unexpected success this season, hitting .287/.359/.513 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 128 plate appearances.
Sep 19 2020Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a walk in a 7-3 win over the Nationals on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper slugged a third-inning homer off Patrick Corbin to give Pablo Lopez enough run support to earn the victory. Over his past 15 games, Cooper is slashing .333/.458/.583.
Sep 17 2020Cooper went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk Wednesday as he helped the Marlins to an 8-4 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper opened up the scoring in the first after connecting on a low breaking ball and driving it over the fence to straightaway center to give the Marlins an early 2-0 lead. The 29-year-old slugger is enjoying a decent campaign in which he's hitting .269/.337/.487 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 22 games.
Sep 8 2020Cooper went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a victory versus Atlanta on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper enjoyed a big night at the plate in the win, drilling a two-run homer in the fourth inning and singling in a run in the seventh. The 29-year-old entered the game having gone 0-for-9 over his previous three contests. He is slashing .261/.292/.543 overall this season.
Sep 7 2020Cooper (quadriceps) will serve as the Marlins' designated hitter and will bat fifth Monday against the Braves, Andre Fernandez of Sirius XM Radio reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper hadn't started in either of the Marlins' last two games while battling the quad issue, though he was cleared to make a pinch-hit appearance in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Rays. After being reassessed early Monday, Cooper gained clearance to re-enter the lineup in the series opener in Atlanta, pushing rookie Lewin Diaz back to a bench role as a result. Since coming off the COVID-19 injured list in late August, Cooper has gone 8-for-30 (.267 average) with two home runs, three doubles, seven RBI and three runs in eight contests.
Sep 6 2020Cooper (quadriceps) is taking grounders and taking swings Sunday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was absent from the lineup Saturday, but the team expects that he will be able to return to the field within the next few days. He's hit well in 37 plate appearances this season, logging a .278/.297/.556 line with two home runs, three runs scored and eight RBI.
Sep 5 2020Cooper will not start Saturday's game against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper owns a strong .886 OPS in seven games since returning from the COVID-19 injured list in late August. He'll hit the bench Saturday, with Jesus Aguilar at first base and Corey Dickerson serving as the designated hitter.
Aug 31 2020Cooper went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper's solo long ball off Jacob deGrom sparked a four-run Marlins rally in the sixth that ultimately proved to be the difference in the ball game. It marked the second homer for Cooper, who has gone 5-for-18 with four extra-base hits since returning from the injured list on Aug. 28.
Aug 30 2020Cooper went 2-for-5 with a home run, one double, four RBI, two runs and one strikeout in Sunday's loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday, and he's already been a force at the plate since his return. He led the Marlins in run production against Tampa Bay, but the pitching staff failed to keep the game within striking distance. Following Sunday's performance, he now has three extra-base hits over the past three games.
Aug 28 2020Cooper was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday and is batting fourth as the designated hitter against the Rays, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old was one of the many Miami players to test positive for COVID-19 just after Opening Day, and he'll officially rejoin the team a month later. Cooper should have a regular role in the lineup after posting a .790 OPS last year, but it's unclear where he'll see most of his time given the team has been working with a makeshift roster for so long. Lewin Diaz and Jesus Aguilar play most days between first base and designated hitter, and Cooper could join that mix in addition to some corner outfield opportunities.
Aug 18 2020Cooper was one of 18 Marlins that tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this season who received clearance Saturday to resume baseball activities at the team's alternate training site in Jupiter, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper started in the Marlins' first two games of the season and went 2-for-7 with an RBI before he was shut down July 26, when he became one of the first known players on the roster to have tested positive. Though he's now made a full recovery from the coronavirus, the three-plus weeks of activity that he missed while waiting to clear all protocols means he'll likely need several days' worth of workouts before Miami deems him ready to return from the IL. Once he's activated, Cooper is expected to rotate with Jesus Aguilar between first base and designated hitter.
Jul 27 2020Cooper (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper was one of several Marlins to test positive for COVID-19 recently, and he'll officially be placed on the injured list as a result. Under MLB protocol, he'll have to produce two negative tests before he's allowed to rejoin the team. Jonathan Villar could take over as the primary designated hitter in Cooper's absence.
Jul 26 2020Cooper is one of the Marlins' players that tested positive for COVID-19, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Urena was scratched from Sunday's start after also testing positive, and there is reportedly one additional starting position player who reported a positive test, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Cooper could be unavailable for a couple weeks until he clears to leagues coronavirus protocols.
Jun 25 2020Cooper could wind up as the Marlins' primary designated hitter this season, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Jesus Aguilar getting first crack at the starting first base job and Miami carrying a lot of outfield depth, Cooper's path to playing time this season originally appeared somewhat precarious, but he might be the most comfortable fit at DH while players with better gloves, such as Lewis Brinson, patrol right field. Cooper slashed a solid .281/.344/.446 in 421 plate appearances last year, but he'll need to avoid the injuries that sidelined him at times in 2019 to take full advantage of his opportunities.
Mar 19 2020Cooper is a candidate to platoon with Matt Joyce in right field once the regular season begins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old is facing competition from Lewis Brinson, Monte Harrison and Harold Ramirez for the role. Cooper put up solid offensive numbers in 2019 when he was healthy, but the rebuilding Marlins may prefer to give a younger player like Brinson another chance to establish themselves.
Sep 21 2019Cooper (knee) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A jammed knee forced Cooper from the Marlins' Sept. 13 game and he has not made an appearance since. Earlier this week, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio indicated that while Cooper's injury isn't thought to be serious, he may not be able to return this season. Cooper is looking like one of the few locks for the Marlins' 2020 lineup.
Sep 20 2019Cooper (knee) remains on the bench Friday against Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A knee issue has now kept Cooper out of action for a week. It's not yet clear when he's expected to return. Lewis Brinson starts in right field in his absence.
Sep 16 2019Cooper (knee) was sent back to Miami on Monday for further evaluation, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper has been battling a knee injury since Friday, and the Marlins have elected to send him for further testing. He seems unlikely to play in Miami's series against Arizona.
Sep 15 2019Cooper (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper jammed his knee on a diving catch Friday and will be out of the starting nine for the second consecutive game. Jon Berti, Magneuris Sierra and Lewis Brinson will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday.
Sep 14 2019Cooper (knee) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper jammed his knee on a diving catch during the first inning of Friday's game, but tests showed no structural damage, so he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's series finale. Harold Ramirez will take over in right field as Starlin Castro bats third against Saturday's starter, Madison Bumgarner.
Sep 13 2019Cooper's left Friday's contest versus the Giants with a knee injury, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cooper said after the game that he jammed his knee on a diving catch in the first inning. Tests showed no structural damage, which indicates the utility man dodged a more serious injury. Cooper is day-to-day.
Sep 6 2019Cooper is not in Friday's lineup against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is hitting .243 with two home runs over his last 10 games. Neil Walker is starting at first base and hitting cleanup.
Sep 3 2019Cooper went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and solo homer in a 5-4 victory against the Pirates on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman smashed his homer to break a tied game in the 10th. This was his first contest with either two hits or two RBI since Aug. 18; he had only one such performance in August. Cooper is batting .272 with 13 home runs, 45 RBI and 49 runs in 346 at-bats this season.
Aug 30 2019Cooper is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.
Aug 24 2019Cooper is not in the lineup Saturday against the Phillies.
Aug 22 2019Cooper is not in Thursday's lineup against the Braves, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
Aug 21 2019Cooper is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Braves, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Aug 18 2019Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI in Saturday's 11-4 loss to the Rockies.
Aug 5 2019Cooper isn't in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Aug 3 2019Cooper (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter Saturday in Tampa Bay.
Aug 1 2019Cooper (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Jul 31 2019Cooper (hamstring) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
Jul 30 2019Cooper was removed from Tuesday's game against the Twins with left hamstring tightness, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

Jul 24 2018Cooper was officially placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a right wrist sprain, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. According to Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald, Cooper said he's dealing with significant inflammation in the wrist and will likely require 2-to-4 weeks of rest before undergoing a follow-up MRI.Until the inflammation subsides, the Marlins won't be able to determine the severity of Cooper's sprain, so his official recovery timeline remains muddled. Considering that Cooper previously missed three months this season after getting hit by a pitch on the same wrist, it wouldn't be surprising if this setback prevented him from playing again this season. The Marlins called up Magneuris Sierra from Triple-A New Orleans to take Cooper's spot on the active roster.
Jul 23 2018Cooper (wrist) will be placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a right wrist sprain, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.Cooper has been on the bench for each of Miami's past three games, and after undergoing an MRI he'll require a stint on the disabled list. It's unclear if he'll return after the minimum, though more news on his status should emerge in the near future. Magneuris Sierra will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.
Jul 23 2018Cooper is dealing with a wrist injury Monday, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.Cooper is awaiting the results of an MRI, which should give more clarity about the severity of the issue. He hasn't been in the lineup for any of the Marlins' last three games, though he's far from an everyday starter, so it's difficult to read too much into that fact.
Jul 7 2018Cooper went 2-for-3 with a walk in Friday's loss to the Nationals.Getting the start in left field against southpaw Gio Gonzalez and hitting sixth, Cooper made an immediate impact in his return from a wrist injury that had sidelined him since April 1. The 27-year-old will likely settle in on the short side of a left-field platoon with Derek Dietrich, while also filling in for Justin Bour at first base on occasion, and he could be a useful addition to NL-only and deep fantasy league rosters for the second half.
Jul 6 2018Cooper (wrist) was activated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Friday's game, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Cooper will immediately rejoin the starting lineup, manning left field and hitting sixth in the order. The outfielder hasn't played in a big-league contest since April 1 due to a right wrist contusion. Expect him to see some time at both corner-outfield positions as well as first base behind Justin Bour.
Jul 3 2018Cooper (wrist) is expected to be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the All-Star break, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. "Coop's almost like the young pitchers; we want to see what they're able to do," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Sunday. "We want to see what he can do over the course of the second half."Mattingly suggested that Cooper, who cracked the Marlins' Opening Day lineup, would receive opportunities at first base and both corner-outfield spots once he completes his minor-league rehab assignment. The 27-year-old appeared in just four games for the Marlins before landing on the DL on April 5 with a sprained right wrist. Cooper is currently 10 games into his rehab assignment and seems to be progressing well, as he's hitting .367/.441/.500 during that stretch. Once reinstated, the right-handed-hitting Cooper could settle in as a platoon mate for Justin Bour or Derek Dietrich, who both bat from the left side.
Jun 20 2018Cooper played four innings at first base and went 0-for-1 at the plate Tuesday in his second rehab appearance for High-A Jupiter.Per the Associated Press, Cooper will shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A New Orleans, with whom he'll likely play several more games before being reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. Cooper has been sidelined since March 30 with a right wrist contusion and may need most of the allotted 30-day rehab window to prove his health to the Marlins. Cooper opened the campaign as the Marlins' starting right fielder, but with Brian Anderson having since secured that job, Cooper will likely play mostly left field and first base during the minor-league assignment.
Jun 16 2018Cooper (wrist) revealed on his personal Twitter account Saturday he has been cleared to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment.Cooper has been on the disabled list since early April after being hit by a pitch on his right wrist during the first week of the season. The 27-year-old appears headed to High-A Jupiter, although it remains unclear how long the rehab stint is expected to last.
Apr 13 2018Cooper (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports. There was a thought that Cooper may be able to return sometime in April given that he's only expected to be in a cast until around April 16, but Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that he actually received a new diagnosis of a partial tear of the tendon sheath in his right wrist. As a result, he's now expected to miss two months of action even though surgery isn't needed. J.B. Shuck will replace him on the active roster.
Apr 9 2018Cooper (wrist) saw a hand specialist Monday and will be in a cast for a week, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Cooper managed to avoid any fractures in his injured wrist, but it seems as if the hand specialist he saw still wants him to take extra precautions. This new wrinkle means that the earliest Cooper can return to action will be next Monday, a few days after he's first eligible to return. It's unclear if he'll need a few extra days to get back into the swing of things once he gets the cast off, though.
Apr 5 2018Cooper was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right wrist contusion, retroactive to April 2, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. He was hit on the wrist by a pitch on March 30, and while he saw three at-bats in the games following, it sounds like this move did not come as a surprise to the Marlins beat writers. It was already confirmed that he did not suffer a fracture, so he may be able to return when first eligible on April 13 (the Marlins are off on April 12). Braxton Lee was recalled from Triple-A as a corresponding move. Lee will serve as the fourth outfielder while Cooper heals up.
Apr 1 2018Cooper (wrist) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Cooper started the first two games of the season in right field, but was held out Saturday after a HBP forced an early exit Friday. Fortunately for Cooper, he avoided the worst-case scenario and his MRI came back clean. It was reported Saturday that he would avoid the disabled list, and with him manning first base Sunday, the injury appears to not be a long-term concern. He'll take over at first for Bour, who is being held out of action against a lefty after three straight starts.
Mar 31 2018Cooper is expected to avoid the disabled list after tests revealed he didn't suffer a fracture of his right wrist when it was hit by a pitch Friday, Joe Frisario of MLB.com reports.Cameron Maybin was assigned the start in right field Saturday in place of Cooper, who should be considered day-to-day despite being plunked by Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. The journeyman, who's off to a 1-for-4 start to the season, will occupy a starting outfield spot when healthy, per Frisaro, and could re-enter the lineup soon.
Mar 30 2018Cooper was hit by a pitch and exited Friday night's game against the Cubs, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Cooper was hit on the right wrist and was replaced by Cameron Maybin. Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports the 27-year-old suffered a wrist contusion and is currently considered day-to-day.
Mar 30 2018Cooper got the start in right field Thursday, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in an 8-4 loss to the Cubs. With lefty Jon Lester on the hill for the reigning NL Central champs, Cooper got the start in right field over Cameron Maybin, but as both players hit right-handed the position is unlikely to develop into a true platoon. As the season progresses, expect the 27-year-old to get spotted in at both outfield corners and at first base when the Marlins' starter needs a breather, but Maybin's checkered injury history does offer a path to more consistent playing time for Cooper at some point.
Mar 25 2018Cooper was informed Sunday that he's made the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Cooper is in the midst of a productive first spring camp with the Marlins, going 15-for-52 with three home runs. He'll likely serve as a pinch-hitting option most of the time, but the 27-year-old can also take the field at first base and both of the corner-outfield spots.
Mar 24 2018Cooper went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. There may not be room on the 25-man roster for Cooper, but the 27-year-old hasn't hurt his chances with his performance at the plate this spring, slashing .294/.321/.510 with three homers in 22 games. If he does break camp with the big club, Cooper would primarily serve as a pinch hitter while seeing occasional action in the field at first base and in the outfield corners. He had a big 2017 at Triple-A Colorado Springs in the Rockies' system, but he has yet to prove he can produce either in the majors, or at a lower altitude.
Feb 12 2018Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Saturday that Cooper will likely see time in left or right field in addition to first base during spring training, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. If Cooper proves capable of manning either corner-outfield spot in spring camp, it would improve his odds of breaking camp with the big club, as the Marlins likely wouldn't be eager to keep a bench spot open for a player who can only man first base. In any event, Cooper still projects to see most of his action at first base this season, likely on the short side of a platoon with Justin Bour. The 27-year-old slashed an astounding .359/.425/.634 across 350 plate appearances in the minors last season and found success in a small sample of at-bats with the Yankees, so he could make for an interesting late-round dart in NL-only leagues.
Nov 20 2017Cooper was traded to the Miami Marlins along with Caleb Smith in exchange for Michael King and international signing bonus money.Cooper opened the 2017 season in the Brewers organization, where he was playing at Triple-A Colorado Springs. After being acquired by the Yankees, he played 13 games with the big club. During his major league debut he went 14-for-43 (.326) at the dish and posted an .821 OPS.

Aug 27 2017Cooper (hamstring) will begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, George A. King of the New York Post reports.Cooper was able to go through agility drills on the field over the weekend, and laid out the plan for his rehab assignment that includes at least two starts at DH before he gets a start in the field for the Triple-A squad. The 26-year-old landed on the DL over a week ago with left hamstring tendinitis, but at this point a return in early September looks realistic.
Aug 17 2017Cooper was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with left hamstring tendinitis. It's unclear when the injury cropped up on Cooper, but it could help explain the 0-for-6 stint over his last two games after he went 8-for-12 (.667) in his first three games of August. It's unclear how long the issue will keep him sidelined, but he'll be eligible to return Aug. 27 should he be ready. In the meantime, Tyler Austin was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place on the active roster, and will likely serve as the backup first baseman to Chase Headley for the time being. With Greg Bird (ankle) expected to return from the disabled list next week, Cooper's role when he is activated remains up in the air, but his playing time will likely take a big hit.
Aug 10 2017Cooper went 4-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays.Cooper was a late addition to the lineup after Clint Frazier was scratched with an oblique injury, but he delivered with his second multi-hit, two-RBI game in as many days. Chase Headley figures to keep seeing the large majority of first base action, but if Cooper continues to hit at this rate he could force himself into the lineup for a few starts per week.
Aug 6 2017Cooper was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.Cooper was demoted following a roster crunch due to the Todd Frazier trade, but with Matt Holliday (back) now out of commission, the 26-year-old will return to the big leagues to add some more depth. Based on the current roster construction, it seems like he could move into a platoon at the designated hitter spot potentially with the likes of Jacoby Ellsbury, although Cooper's high strikeout rate and 6-for-25 showing in the Bronx earlier this season could relegate him to bench duty until Holliday returns.
Jul 17 2017Cooper went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run Monday in Minnesota.Cooper got the nerves out of the way by getting his first big-league hit with a double Sunday in Boston, then got two more in this three-hit performance. Hitter-friendly park or not, Cooper displayed serious ability at the plate with a .366/.428/.652 line at the Triple-A level before getting traded to New York by the Brewers organization. With Greg Bird (ankle) scheduled to get surgery Tuesday and projected to miss six weeks, Cooper could earn every-day at-bats at first base if he continues to swing the bat well.
Jul 14 2017Cooper was formally called up and will start at first base and bat sixth Friday against the Red Sox.Just one day after being traded from Milwaukee, Cooper is set to make his major-league debut against Drew Pomeranz and company. Cooper's numbers at Triple-A prior to the trade should be taken with a grain of salt as he was playing for Colorado Springs in the notoriously hitter-friendly PCL, but the combination of power and opportunity -- he should get an extended look at first base -- makes the 26-year-old appealing in deeper formats right away.
Jul 14 2017Cooper will be called up by the Yankees for their series in Boston this weekend, Sweeny Murti of Sports Radio 66 WFAN reports.Cooper was acquired in a trade from the Brewers on Thursday, and his new organization will waste no time seeing what he can do on the big stage. The move mainly stems from necessity, as Tyler Austin (hamstring) remains sidelined on the 10-day DL and Greg Bird (ankle) is at risk to miss the remainder of the season. Cooper is slashing an impressive .366/.428/.652 in Triple-A this season, so the 26-year-old may be able to carve out an everyday role if he can duplicate that success in the majors.
Jul 13 2017Cooper was sent to the Yankees on Thursday by the Brewers in exchange for reliever Tyler Webb, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports. With Greg Bird's ankle not getting better, the Yankees were in the market for a first baseman and found one they like in Cooper. He's been having a good year with Triple-A Colorado Springs, slashing .366/.428/.652 with 17 home runs and 29 doubles while benefiting from a hitter-friendly ballpark. Given New York's lack of production at first base this season, it should only be a matter of time before we see Cooper in pinstripes.
