Apr 19 2025De Los Santos (1-0) picked up the win Friday over the Twins, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The journeyman right-hander entered the game with Atlanta down 4-1, and he got rewarded for his strong effort when his offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. De Los Santos has looked good in middle relief to begin the season, posting a 3.24 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB through 8.1 innings, but he has yet to record a save or a hold.
Mar 21 2025Atlanta selected De Los Santos' contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos earned a spot in Atlanta's Opening Day bullpen by permitting only two runs with a 7:1 K:BB over 6.2 Grapefruit League innings. The 29-year-old right-hander is likely to operation in low-leverage situations initially.
Nov 22 2024The White Sox non-tendered De Los Santos on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos bounced around between the Yankees, Padres and White Sox in 2024, posting a 5.20 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 64 total innings. He'll now have his pick of teams to sign with in free agency, though he doesn't project as anything more than a middle reliever regardless of his landing spot.
Aug 17 2024The White Sox claimed De Los Santos off waivers Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being acquired by the Yankees from the Padres on July 30, De Los Santos was DFA'd by New York on Wednesday. His worst performance came against the White Sox on Monday, when he allowed seven runs on eight hits over just 1.2 innings. De Los Santos will likely start with Triple-A Charlotte, and he could make his way up to the big club with some good outings in the minors.
Aug 14 2024The Yankees designated De Los Santos for assignment Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move comes two days after De Los Santos was bludgeoned for seven runs over a 1.2-inning relief appearance versus the White Sox. While his brief tenure with the Yankees has gone poorly, De Los Santos has a career 25.6 percent strikeout rate as a reliever and is under team control through 2026, so he could draw interest via trade or waivers.
Jul 30 2024The Yankees acquired De Los Santos and right-hander Thomas Balboni from the Padres in exchange for outfielder Brandon Lockridge on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos had a 4.46 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB over 40.1 innings for the Padres this season, but he was expendable with the club adding major bullpen pieces at the deadline. The right-handed journeyman had a 3.18 ERA in 120 outings for the Guardians across the previous two seasons, and he's likely to work in middle relief for the Yankees.
Jun 21 2024De Los Santos allowed a hit and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Not often part of the high-leverage mix, De Los Santos got a chance to protect a three-run lead in the eighth inning. He delivered and also pitched the ninth to earn his first save since 2022, when he was with the Guardians. The right-hander has put together an okay season with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB over 31.2 innings, and he's added seven holds. His big problem has been the long ball -- De Los Santos has yielded nine home runs after giving up a total of seven homers across his previous two campaigns.
May 18 2024De Los Santos registered a hold against Atlanta on Friday, striking out one batter over a perfect two-thirds of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos entered in the seventh frame with the tying run at the plate and struck out Zack Short before getting Ronald Acuna to fly out to escape the danger. The hold was the first this month for the right-hander hurler, who had given up a homer in three of his previous four outings prior to Friday. The long ball has been an issue for De Los Santos this season -- of the six earned runs he's allowed, five have come on solo homers -- but he's otherwise been solid, posting a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB while collecting five holds across 17.1 innings.
Jan 11 2024De Los Santos signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Thursday to avoid arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Guardians sent De Los Santos to San Diego earlier in the offseason in exchange for Scott Barlow. De Los Santos emerged as a reliable bullpen arm, posting a 3.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across two seasons in Cleveland, and he figures to be used fairly often in high-leverage situations with his new club.
Oct 1 2023De Los Santos finished the season tied for 18th in the majors with 70 appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was a trusted part of the Guardians' bullpen throughout the year, though he wavered with a 5.59 ERA in September. He tossed a scoreless inning in Sunday's season-ending 5-2 loss to the Tigers. Overall, De Los Santos posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 62:25 K:BB over 65.2 innings while adding 16 holds, a 5-2 record and three blown saves. With Emmanuel Clase in place as closer, De Los Santos is unlikely to see ninth-inning assignments often as long as he remains with Cleveland.
Aug 19 2023De Los Santos (5-2) struck out the only batter he faced and earned the win in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos got the last out in the top of the eighth inning, and the Guardians' offense rallied ahead in their half of the frame. He's allowed four runs over 6.2 innings in August, but he still has a solid 8:1 K:BB for the month, suggesting he's had a little bad luck. The right-hander is at a 2.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB while adding 13 holds over 50.2 innings this year as part of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase.
Aug 7 2023De Los Santos (4-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning to take the loss Monday versus the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Starter Gavin Williams pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, but De Los Santos couldn't keep the momentum in Cleveland's favor, allowing a two-run home run to Cavan Biggio in the eighth. The homer ended a 10-inning scoreless streak for De Los Santos, who had a 9:3 K:BB with four holds in that span. The right-hander has emerged as a solid setup man for the Guardians with a 2.61 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB over 48.1 innings while adding 11 holds this season. He slots in behind Emmanuel Clase and Trevor Stephan in the Guardians' late-inning mix.
Jul 4 2023De Los Santos (4-1) pitched a perfect inning to earn the extra-inning win over Atlanta on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos worked the 10th inning and got some help on an outfield assist from Myles Straw to nab the potential go-ahead runner at the plate on a double play. David Fry then walked it off in the bottom of the 10th. De Los Santos has allowed just two hits while striking out five over his seven-inning scoreless streak. For the season, he's at a 2.57 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB while adding six holds and a blown save over 35 innings. He's not firmly in the high-leverage mix, but he's pitched well enough to be trusted to protect leads.
Jun 21 2023De Los Santos (3-1) struck out one without giving up a hit or a walk in a scoreless inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos pitched the 10th inning, and aside from a passed ball charged to catcher David Fry that moved the initial runner to third base, it was a sharp performance. Through eight appearances in June, De Los Santos has kept runs off the board five times, though a four-run meltdown versus the Red Sox on June 6 make his numbers for the month look bad. He's been effective middle reliever this year with a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 27:13 K:BB and four holds over 29 innings.
Jun 7 2023De Los Santos (2-1) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos also took a blown save for failing to protect a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. It was easily his worst outing of the season -- he had a 6.2-inning scoreless streak from May 19 to June 3 and hadn't given up multiple runs in any appearance since April 9. The right-handed reliever still has a 3.52 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP, 18:10 K:BB and four holds over 23 innings this season. De Los Santos is likely to remain in a middle-reliever role.
May 2 2023De Los Santos (2-0) earned the win Monday over the Yankees, recording two outs without allowing a baserunner. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos got the last two outs of the eighth inning, picking off Anthony Volpe at first base and getting Anthony Rizzo to ground out after replacing starter Cal Quantrill. In the ninth, the Guardians rallied for the lead, and Emmanuel Clase was able to close it out. De Los Santos has given up just three runs (two earned) over 10.1 innings this season, good for a 1.74 ERA. He also has a 1.06 WHIP, 9:5 K:BB and a hold through 11 appearances. De Los Santos isn't likely to get many save chances, but he's holding his own while seeing some high-leverage opportunities.
Apr 2 2023De Los Santos (1-0) struck out one in a perfect inning Sunday versus the Mariners, earning the extra-inning win. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos worked the ninth inning of a 5-5 game, which was his third appearance of the young season. He's picked up a 3:1 K:BB over 2.2 hitless innings so far. The right-hander was mostly limited to middle-relief assignments in 2022, but he excelled in that role with a 3.04 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 53.1 innings. He's unlikely to challenge for many saves with Emmanuel Clase, Trevor Stephan and James Karinchak in the high-leverage mix, but De Los Santos could be part of the bridge to get to the late innings.
Mar 8 2023De Los Santos is available to pitch Wednesday versus Team Mexico, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was hampered by a hamstring issue early in spring training, but it appears he's moved beyond the injury. The right-hander will begin getting ready for the 2023 campaign. He is expected to fill a mid-leverage role in the bullpen after going 5-0 with a 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB across 53.1 innings last season.
Mar 4 2023De Los Santos is dealing with a hamstring injury and may not be ready for Opening Day, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos has yet to make his Cactus League debut this spring, and the severity of his injury is unknown. The right-hander enjoyed the best season of his career in 2022 with a 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB across 53.1 innings. If he can return to game action before the end of spring training, he should be considered likely to make the Opening Day roster.
Sep 30 2022De Los Santos (5-0) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Thursday over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos kept the deficit to one run in the eighth inning, and the Guardians flipped the score with a two-run burst in their half of the frame. He's allowed four runs in 9.1 innings in September, securing two wins and a hold across 10 appearances. The 26-year-old right-hander hasn't seen a lot of high-leverage work, but he's been effective with a 2.98 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 59:16 K:BB through 51.1 innings while adding a save and three holds.
Sep 12 2022De Los Santos (4-0) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Monday over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos worked the seventh inning and kept the game tied at 4-4 before Amed Rosario gave the Guardians a lead in their half of the frame. In his previous appearance, De Los Santos saw a nine-inning scoreless streak end when he allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning versus the Twins on Friday. He's been an effective reliever this year, and he now owns a 2.91 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 49:14 K:BB with one save and three holds through 46 innings.
Aug 12 2022De Los Santos (3-0) struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in two-thirds of an inning, earning the extra-inning win over the Tigers on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos took a blown save for allowing an inherited runner to score the tying run on a fielder's choice in the ninth inning, but the Guardians regained the lead in the top of the 10th. The right-hander had been charged with one run in each of his three previous appearances. He's filled a middle-relief role for much of his time in the majors this year, pitching to a 3.22 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB while adding a save and two holds through 36.1 innings.
Jul 27 2022De Los Santos (2-0) earned the win Wednesday over the Red Sox. He allowed a hit and struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos benefited from the Guardians taking the lead in the ninth inning, and Emmanuel Clase locked down the one-run lead for the save. This was De Los Santos' sixth straight appearance without allowing a run -- he's covered seven innings and allowed five hits with five strikeouts in that span. The 26-year-old is quickly building trust in the Guardians' bullpen, as he owns a 2.87 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB in 31.1 innings while adding a save and two holds.
Jul 14 2022De Los Santos allowed two hits and struck out two over two scoreless innings versus the White Sox on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Civale (wrist) lasted only one inning in his start, making this an impromptu bullpen game. De Los Santos did his part with his longest outing of the year, though he's routinely picked up four or five outs in appearances throughout 2022. The 26-year-old right-hander has pitched 3.1 consecutive scoreless innings and now sports a 3.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB with one save and two holds through 27.2 innings.
Jun 17 2022De Los Santos walked one and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander put the winning run on base with two outs in the 10th inning, but he struck out Justin Turner to end the threat. The save chance Friday fell to De Los Santos since Emmanuel Clase had converted saves on four of the five previous days and needed rest. De Los Santos has a hold and a 1-0 record to go with a steady 2.45 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 18.1 innings overall, though he's not expected to compete for closing duties any time soon.
Jun 10 2022De Los Santos (1-0) picked up the win Thursday versus the Athletics. He allowed a hit and struck out one in two-thirds of a scoreless inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos has given up just one run on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 over his last nine innings. The right-hander was trusted to pitch in the eighth inning of a tied game Thursday, which shows he's become a reliable part of the Guardians' bullpen. For the season, he has a 2.35 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 15.1 innings.
May 31 2022De Los Santos struck out one in a perfect inning in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since he was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on May 9, he's allowed just one hit and no walks with nine strikeouts across 7.1 scoreless innings. The right-hander is still seeing mostly low-leverage work, but he's done well to post a 2.08 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB across 13 innings this season. He's also picked up a hold in 12 appearances.
May 8 2022The Guardians optioned De Los Santos to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos wasn't going to be available for Sunday's series finale with Toronto after he worked an inning and tossed 30 pitches while giving up a run and walking three in Saturday's 8-3 loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader. As a result, the Guardians will swap De Los Santos off the 26-man active roster for Kirk McCarty, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Apr 20 2022De Los Santos' contract was selected by the Guardians on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos signed a minor-league deal with Cleveland in early December, but he'll now join the big-league club after several pitchers were placed on the injured list for an unspecified reason Wednesday. The right-hander has made four appearances at Triple-A Columbus to begin the year and has posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 3.2 innings.
Nov 6 2021De Los Santos was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos is still just 25 years old, but he hasn't done enough to entice a team to claim him off waivers. In 65.1 career major-league innings, most of which have come in relief, he owns a 6.06 ERA, though his 27.7 percent strikeout rate in 35.1 frames this season hints at some small amount of potential despite his 6.37 ERA.
Sep 14 2021De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was claimed off waivers from the Phillies on Monday, and he'll join Pittsburgh's active roster after David Bednar (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-hander made 26 relief appearances for Philadelphia this year and posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 28 innings.
Sep 13 2021De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Sunday after posting a 6.75 ERA in 28 innings this season, but it's not too surprising to see another team taking a chance on him. His underlying numbers aren't bad, as his strong 30.7 percent strikeout rate should ordinarily be enough to overcome a sub-par 10.2 percent walk rate. Given that he's still just 25 years old, it's certainly not out of the question that he eventually becomes a useful piece for the Pirates. It looks as though he'll remain in the minors for now, as Pittsburgh cleared a 40-man roster spot for him by transferring Steven Brault (lat) to the 60-day injured list but did not clear a spot on the active roster.
Sep 12 2021De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move clears room on the 40-man roster for the Phillies to activate Andrew Knapp off the COVID-19 injured list. De Los Santos owns a 6.75 ERA in 28 innings of relief this season, though his 30.7 percent strikeout rate could compel another team to claim him.
Aug 28 2021De Los Santos (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out one in two innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos entered Friday's contest in the 10th inning and gave up a pair of runs in the frame, but he remained in the game for the 11th inning and held Arizona scoreless. The right-hander has been shuffled between the Phillies and the Triple-A club recently but has recorded a 2.16 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 8.1 innings across seven relief appearances since the beginning of August.
Aug 27 2021De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was sent down Tuesday and allowed one run on a hit and no walks while striking out two in one inning at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. He'll rejoin the major-league roster after Zach Eflin (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
Aug 24 2021De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos had been with the team for most of August, allowing one run in 6.1 innings while striking out 10 and walking two in his latest stint with the team. The strong showing was only enough to bring his season ERA and WHIP down to 5.24 and 1.61, respectively. The move clears space for Freddy Galvis to return from his quadriceps injury.
Aug 2 2021De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old was sent down Saturday, but he'll rejoin the Phillies' bullpen after Vince Velasquez (finger) was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday. De Los Santos has recorded a 6.75 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 16 innings across 15 relief appearances this year.
Jun 26 2021De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos served as the 27th man in Friday's doubleheader against the Mets, but he didn't appear out of the bullpen. He'll remain with the Phillies as part of the 26-man roster after outfielder Matt Vierling was sent down Saturday.
Jun 25 2021De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander had a two-day stint in the majors in mid-June, and he'll rejoin the big-league roster for Friday's twin bill. De Los Santos has appeared in four games for the Phillies this season and has allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk over three innings.
Jun 14 2021De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos' latest stint with the Phillies lasted just two days. He struck out two batters while allowing one hit in a scoreless inning of relief against the Yankees on Sunday in his lone appearance. Bailey Falter was recalled in a corresponding move.
Jun 12 2021De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos made three appearances for the Phillies back in May, allowing four runs (three earned) in two innings. He'll likely be used in low-leverage spots for now. Rafael Marchan was optioned in a corresponding move.
May 14 2021De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos made three appearances during his time with the team. He threw scoreless innings in two of them but gave up four runs without recording a single out in the other. J.T. Realmuto was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.
May 8 2021De Los Santos (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and walk without recording an out in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos came in on the twelfth with a three-run lead and proceeded to allow a walk, single and double to immediately tie the game before being removed. Matt Moore came on and allowed the winning run to score in what resulted in a loss and blown save. This was a rough outing for the young pitcher although he only has pitched in two games.
May 4 2021De Los Santos' contract was selected by the Phillies on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos was designated for assignment back in August and went unclaimed on waivers. He's since seen his velocity jump a few ticks, which could make him a useful enough bullpen piece for the Phillies. He'll have to do better than his career 5.70 ERA in 30 MLB innings if he's to stick around. Cristopher Sanchez was optioned in a corresponding move.
Aug 5 2020De Los Santos was optioned to the Phillies' alternate training site after Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 24-year-old was recalled Monday but will make a quick return to the alternate site with the Phillies needing to trim the roster to 28 players Thursday. De Los Santos didn't make an appearance during his brief time with the team.
Aug 3 2020De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos will join the 30-man roster for the first time this season to take the place of Reggie McClain (personal), who was placed on the three-day paternity list Monday. The right-hander is unlikely to appear in high-leverage situations and could be on track to return to the Phillies' alternate training site once McClain returns.
Jul 13 2020De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos and Robert Stock were both moved to Triple-A as a procedural move. Manager Joe Girardi said that it doesn't change either of their chances to make the Phillies' Opening Day roster.
Feb 12 2020De Los Santos pulled his hamstring in late January and won't throw off a mound for three more weeks, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: If De Los Santos is indeed back on the mound in three weeks, he'll still have three more weeks before Opening Day, so there's a chance he'll still be able to open the season on the active roster. That's far from guaranteed even if he's healthy, however, as he owns a 5.70 ERA in 30 career big-league innings.
Sep 28 2019De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: De Los Santos will give the Phillies an extra arm out of the bullpen for the final two games of the season. He failed to impress in 11 big-league innings earlier this season, posting a 7.36 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.

Jul 20 2018De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.De Los Santos allowed five runs over 4.1 innings in the final game before the All-Star break Sunday, and will return to the IronPigs with Zach Eflin (finger) eligible to come off the disabled list early next week for the Phillies. The 22-year-old has a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across two starts in the majors this season.
Jul 15 2018De Los Santos allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two over 4.1 innings Sunday as he didn't factor into the decision against the Marlins.De Los Santos cruised through four scoreless innings before falling apart in the fifth, as he managed to record just one out while giving up five before exiting with a one-run lead. The 22-year-old right-hander has made two starts in 2018 and he figures to head back to the minors in the near future as Zach Eflin (finger) should be close to full health coming out of the All-Star break. De Los Santos sits with a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with eight strikeouts over 10.2 innings as the first half of the season comes to a close.
Jul 14 2018De Los Santos will be called up to start Sunday against the Marlins, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The Phillies will need a spot starter again with Zach Eflin hitting the disabled list with a blister. De Los Santos had a solid performance in his big-league debut Tuesday, picking up a win and a quality start against the Mets. Eflin isn't expected to miss more than one start, but if De Los Santos keeps pitching well the Phillies will eventually be forced to find a role for him.
Jul 10 2018De Los Santos' contract was selected Tuesday ahead of his scheduled start against the Mets, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.De Los Santos has certainly elevated his stock this year after being acquired in exchange for just one season of the mediocre Freddy Galvis back in December. He's posted a stellar 1.89 ERA through 16 starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, never allowing more than three runs in any appearance. His 22.7 percent strikeout rate and 8.1 percent walk rate are each more solid than spectacular, but he's certainly done enough to earn at least a big-league audition. Regardless of his performance Tuesday, he could find himself sent right back down to the minors with Vince Velasquez (forearm) on track to return Wednesday.
Jul 6 2018De Los Santos, a possible candidate for a spot start Tuesday, continued his excellent season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in a six-inning start against Syracuse.De Los Santos has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his 16 starts this season, leaving him with a sparkling 1.89 ERA. That ERA may overrate him somewhat, as it's backed up by a .248 BABIP and a 92.6 percent left on base rate, but De Los Santos has certainly elevated his profile after he was acquired for just one season of the mediocre Freddy Galvis in the offseason. The Phillies will need a pair of spot starters next week, one to start one half of Monday's doubleheader and the other to fill in for Vince Velasquez (forearm) on Tuesday. De Los Santos makes a natural candidate to receive Tuesday's opportunity, as he is already on schedule to start that day. He's not yet on the 40-man roster but will have to be added this offseason in order to be protected from the Rule 5 draft, so the Phillies have little to lose by calling on him for his major-league debut.
May 9 2018De Los Santos tossed seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, striking out six while allowing just one hit and a pair of walks. The dominant performance brought the 22-year-old's ERA down to 0.84 through six starts. He's looking like quite the return for one season of Freddy Galvis so far this year. The Phillies don't have a glaring hole at the back of their rotation, with Zach Eflin making two good starts and Jerad Eickhoff nearing a return from a lat strain, but De Los Santos is certainly doing everything he can to force his way onto the big-league roster.
May 7 2018De Los Santos carries a 3-0 record, 1.07 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB across 25.1 innings through his five starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. The 22-year-old's 11.8 K/9 is his highest mark at any level during his four seasons in the professional ranks, with his above-average fastball and improved slider in particular making life difficult for opposing hitters. According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, De Los Santos' early-season performance has put him on the radar for a potential promotion to the Phillies at some point in 2018, though the righty's status as a non-roster player makes his ascent to the big leagues a little more difficult. Even so, if De Los Santos is able to trim down his walk rate while continuing to whiff batters at a prolific rate in his subsequent outings with Lehigh Valley, it may be difficult for the Phillies to justify keeping him on the farm much longer, especially if back-end rotation members like Vince Velasquez and Zach Eflin aren't able to consistently provide quality innings.
Apr 22 2018De Los Santos is off to a strong start in his first taste of Triple-A ball for Lehigh Valley, The Athletic Philadelphia reports.De Los Santos was acquired from the Padres in exchange for Freddy Galvis back in December. In his first three Triple-A starts, he has a 1.98 ERA and a 1.63 FIP, striking out 36.1 percent of batters while walking 8.2 percent. In 150 innings for Double-A San Antonio last season, the young righty was good, but not nearly this good, posting a 3.78 FIP with a 22.4 percent strikeout rate. The Phillies' analytics department made minor adjustments to De Los Santos' mechanics and pitch sequencing, which may have unlocked a new level of performance for the young righty. He wasn't in consideration for a rotation spot to begin the year, but if his hot start continues and he begins to look like something more than the back-end starter he projected to be coming into the season, there's a chance he could make a push for big-league starts later in the season.
