Jun 14 2025Wilson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Timesf reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was designated for assignment Tuesday, but after clearing waivers he'll remain in Chicago's organization. The veteran right-hander has struggled with the White Sox this season, posting a 6.95 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 27:19 K:BB over 45.1 innings. Wilson had been working mostly out of the bullpen in the majors, though has made five starts across 19 total appearances.
Jun 10 2025The White Sox designated Wilson for assignment Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction frees spots on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster for right-hander Grant Taylor, who was promoted from Double-A Birmingham. Wilson has collected an uninspiring 6.95 ERA and 27:19 K:BB over five starts and 14 relief appearances this season with the Pale Hose.
May 24 2025Wilson did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, two walks, and one hit by pitch over four-plus innings against the Rangers. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson filled in for probable starter Jonathan Cannon, who was scratched due to lower-back tightness. The 27-year-old made it through four innings while allowing two runs before a Josh Rojas error in the fifth facilitated his exit. Two additional runs were later charged to his line after reliever Mike Vasil was unable to escape the jam. Overall, Wilson has had a tough start to the 2025 season, posting a 5.84 ERA and 1.78 WHIP across 37 innings while bouncing between the rotation and bullpen.
May 22 2025Wilson was spotted warming up in the bullpen during Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Mariners, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson wasn't called upon in relief, but his presence in the bullpen nonetheless confirms that he's not expected to be in line for any starts in the near future after he had been serving as the fifth member of the White Sox rotation since Martin Perez suffered what could be a season-ending elbow injury in late April. After Wilson was lit up for seven earned runs in 5.1 innings in his latest start last Thursday in Cincinnati, the White Sox opted to replace him in the rotation with Adrian Houser, who signed a one-year deal with the club Tuesday. Houser started later that day and tossed six scoreless innings in a win over Seattle, so he should have a fair amount of security in the rotation before the White Sox would consider turning back to Wilson.
May 15 2025Wilson (0-2) took the loss Thursday against Cincinnati, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson made his fifth consecutive appearance at the back end of an injury-depleted White Sox rotation, and he allowed his most hits and runs in an outing this season, including three solo home runs. Since stepping into the rotation, Wilson has posted a 6.86 ERA across 21 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a start next week against the Mariners.
May 10 2025Wilson didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-2 win over Miami after allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out one batter in five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old righty put himself in an early hole by walking Xavier Edwards to begin the game before allowing an RBI single to Jesus Sanchez during the following at-bat. However, Wilson was able to settle in nicely afterwards and didn't allow the Marlins to score again while he pitched five full innings for the first time since moving to Chicago's rotation. His next test is lined up to come on the road in Cincinnati.
May 4 2025Wilson took a no-decision in Sunday's rain-shortened 5-4 win over Houston, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Chicago right-hander struggled in this 89-pitch performance, conceding a season-worst nine hits (eight singles and one homer). Through 22.2 innings, Wilson sports a 5.56 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB. The 27-year-old should continue to garner turns in the rotation either as a starter or an opener while Martin Perez (elbow) is slated for an extended absence until September. Wilson currently lines up to make his next appearance at home against Miami next weekend.
May 3 2025Wilson is listed as the White Sox's starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Astros in Chicago. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox could end up deploying Wilson behind an opening pitcher like they did in his last appearance in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers, but in any case, the right-hander will be making his third straight turn through the rotation. Wilson failed to reach four innings in both his start and bulk-relief appearance, but he's progressively pushing up his pitch count after having pitched exclusively in relief before recently moving into the rotation following Martin Perez's (elbow) placement on the injured list. After tossing 58 pitches against the Brewers, Wilson could be ready to handle a 65-to-75-pitch workload Sunday.
Dec 18 2024The White Sox signed Wilson to a one-year, $1.05 million contract Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He can earn an additional $250,000 in incentives. Wilson elected free agency last month when he was removed from the Brewers' 40-man roster after holding a 4.04 ERA and 82:31 K:BB across 104.2 regular-season innings in 2024. The 27-year-old has been used as both a starter and reliever and will be given a chance to win a spot in Chicago's rotation.
Nov 4 2024Wilson elected free agency Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson passed through waivers unclaimed after the Brewers booted him from their 40-man roster, but he will head into free agency after refusing an outright assignment. The right-hander posted a 4.04 ERA and 82:31 K:BB across 104.2 innings in 2024 while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen.
Sep 24 2024Wilson (oblique) could be activated from the 15-day injured list as soon as Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson got through a multi-inning simulated game Monday with no problems, clearing the way for his return. He's been shelved for most of this month with a right oblique strain but is ready to return and state his case to be included on the Brewers' playoff roster.
Sep 12 2024Wilson (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson landed on the injured list Sept. 3 and his upcoming bullpen session will mark his first time throwing since. He should have a chance to return before the close of the regular season barring a setback.
Sep 3 2024The Brewers placed Wilson on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right oblique strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson evidently must have tweaked his oblique at some point during a 3.1-inning relief appearance in Sunday's extra-innings loss to the Reds. He will be eligible to return Sept. 17, but it's not yet clear whether he will have a chance to be ready by that date.
Jul 24 2024Wilson pitched four innings of relief in Wednesday's win versus the Cubs, allowing one earned run on one hit and zero walks while striking out three. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rob Zastryzny opened the game for the Brewers but only lasted one inning, allowing one earned run on four hits while throwing 38 pitches. This forced Wilson to throw multiple innings for the first time since July 6. The right-hander was up to the task, however, allowing just a single baserunner in four innings of work. With the Brewers rotation still banged up, the 26-year-old will likely operate in a bulk relief role moving forward.
Jul 4 2024Manager Pat Murphy said Thursday that Wilson will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Following the acquisition of Aaron Civale from Tampa Bay, Wilson will end up as the odd man out of Milwaukee's rotation. The 26-year-old owns a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 78 innings on the season, though his numbers drop to a 3.72 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in his 11 appearances as a reliever. He'll likely be asked to handle a multi-inning role as he moves to the Brewers' bullpen, and he could return to the rotation if another one of Milwaukee's starters gets injured.
Jul 1 2024Wilson did not factor into the decision in Monday's 8-7 loss to the Rockies, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After pitching to a 5.19 ERA across 26 innings in June, Wilson continued his run of poor performance in Coors Field. The Milwaukee right-hander allowed five or more runs for the third time in his last five appearances. He now sports a 4.27 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 62:28 K:BB over 78 innings this season. Things aren't going to get easier for Wilson, as he's currently scheduled to make his next outing versus the Dodgers in Los Angeles. It is currently unknown whether he will follow an opener again.
Jun 26 2024Wilson (5-3) picked up the win Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing three hits with no walks across six scoreless innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the fourth time in his last six appearances, Wilson worked in bulk relief, taking the mound in the third inning after Hoby Milner opened the contest. Still, Wilson was able to complete six innings for the first time since May 6 as part of his best outing as a Brewer. The 26-year-old has been incredibly volatile across his last four appearances, yielding at least five runs twice but giving up no runs in the other pair of games. Overall, Wilson owns a 3.89 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP over 74.0 innings. While it's unclear if he'll follow an opener again, he's on track to pitch in Colorado early next week.
Jun 25 2024Wilson will pitch behind opener Hoby Milner against the Rangers on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was scheduled to start Tuesday's contest but will instead follow a lefty opener. The right-hander has failed to last five frames in five of his past eight outings, so the strategy could improve his chances of qualifying for a victory. However, Wilson has a 5.68 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB during that eight-start stretch.
Jun 21 2024Wilson did not factor into the decision in Thursday's loss to the Padres, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson failed to retire five of the first seven batters he faced to open the contest, surrendering back-to-back homers to Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill in the first to put the Brewers in an early 4-1 hole. The right-hander would settle in over the next three frames before coughing up another long ball in the fifth. It was Wilson's first time this season in which he allowed multiple home runs in a start and he's given up at least five runs in two of his last three outings. He's also walked multiple batters in three consecutive starts.
Jun 15 2024Wilson (4-3) earned the win over Cincinnati on Saturday, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Milwaukee opted to have Jared Koenig open the contest, and he notched two outs before Wilson entered with a runner on first base in the first inning. The right-hander closed that frame successfully, then kept the Reds off the scoreboard for five more innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. Wilson's excellent outing earned him his first victory since May 24. After opening the campaign in the bullpen, Wilson has been bouncing between a traditional starting role and bulk relief lately, and in either capacity he's pitched pretty well, giving up three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 17 appearances this season.
Jun 9 2024Wilson (3-3) took the loss Sunday against Detroit, surrendering seven earned runs on six hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson uncharacteristically got shelled Sunday, allowing more than three earned runs for the first time this season. The 26-year-old did not allow a home run for the first time since May 6, but Wilson has been struggling after a hot start to the season. Over his past six appearances, Wilson has allowed five or more hits in all of them, pitching to a 6.11 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP over 28 innings. He will look to rebound in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend versus Cincinnati.
Jun 3 2024Wilson (3-2) took the loss Monday against Philadelphia, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one in 5.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jared Koenig opened the game for Milwaukee, pitching one scoreless inning before giving way to Wilson in the second. Wilson surrendered a solo home run to David Dahl in the fourth inning, marking the fifth consecutive game in which the right-hander has allowed a home run. The 26-year-old has been consistent in minimizing the damage, however, allowing three earned runs or fewer in all of those starts. Wilson has worked behind Jared Koenig in two of his last three appearances, and it remains to be seen if he will start his next time out, tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Detroit.
May 29 2024Wilson allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was just okay in his return to a starting role after making his last appearance behind an opener. This was the first time all year the right-hander has allowed more than two runs in an outing. He's pitched to a 3.19 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB over 48 innings across 14 appearances (seven starts) in 2024. Wilson is projected for a tough road matchup versus the Phillies in his next appearance, though the Brewers haven't revealed if that will be as a starter or a primary pitcher.
May 25 2024Wilson (3-1) picked up the win Friday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 relief innings in a 7-2 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jared Koenig got the nod as the opener but recorded only two outs and put two runners aboard before Wilson entered the game. Wilson struck out Tyler O'Neill to end the rally, the first of a season-high seven Ks for the 26-year-old right-hander as he generated 28 called or swinging strikes among his 80 pitches. In six trips to the mound since taking the place of DL Hall (knee) in the rotation, Wilson has posted a 2.67 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 26:15 K:BB over 30.1 innings, but Friday's win was his first in that stretch. Hall has worked only one-inning stints to begin his rehab assignment, perhaps signaling that Wilson's spot is secure even when the Brewers' staff gets healthier. Wilson lines up to make his next trip to the mound at home next week against the Cubs.
May 24 2024Wilson isn't starting Friday against the Red Sox but is likely to follow opener Jared Koenig. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was initially listed as the Brewers' projected starter -- a role he's jumped into with Milwaukee's rotation hampered by injuries -- but Jared Koenig is now starting the game. Considering Koenig hasn't worked more than 2.2 innings in a game this year, it's expected that he'll just open the contest, leaving the door open for Wilson to operate in long relief.
May 18 2024Wilson allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was given a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but he was pulled after giving up a one-out solo homer to Jake Meyers and a two-out single to Jose Altuve. The hook eliminated the right-hander's chance to qualify for the win, and it marked the second straight outing in which he's failed to go five frames. Still, Wilson has given up a tolerable four runs across 8.2 innings during those two contests, and he's recorded a 2.79 ERA across 38.2 innings on the season.
May 12 2024Wilson allowed two runs on five hits and five walks over four-plus innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out one in the loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson walked home a run in the second inning but managed to hold the Cardinals to one run through four frames. He was knocked out of the contest after coughing up a home run to Paul Goldschmidt and a double to Alec Burleson to begin the fifth inning. Wilson has produced a shaky 16:13 K:BB over his last four starts but owns a 2.21 ERA during that span. He's produced a 2.65 ERA through 34 innings this season. Wilson's currently projected to start in Houston next weekend.
May 6 2024Wilson allowed a hit and three walks over six shutout frames in a no-decision Monday. He struck out six while the Brewers lost to Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was in line for a win before the Royals plated three runs in the seventh inning right after he left the contest. The lone hit he gave up was a single and Kansas City never posed much of a threat during his outing. He also generated a season-high 11 whiffs. Wilson dropped his ERA to 2.40 with a 27:10 K:BB through 30 innings. As things stand, he currently projects for a home matchup with St. Louis this weekend.
Apr 29 2024Wilson (2-1) allowed one run on four hits and two walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson coughed up a run in the first inning but finished his night with five straight scoreless frames. It was the first time this season he finished at least five innings and he dropped his season ERA to 3.00 through 24 innings. Wilson forced 10 whiffs Monday after totaling just nine over his previous three appearances (9.1 innings). Wilson is currently slated to face the Cubs on the road this weekend.
Apr 28 2024Wilson is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Rays in Milwaukee, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson had already started in two of his previous three appearances, but he served as more of a piggyback pitcher/opener than a traditional starter in both outings. However, after building up to 75 pitches and 4.1 innings in his most recent outing last Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Wilson shouldn't face many restrictions with his workload moving forward if the Brewers opt to keep him around in the rotation on a more permanent basis. Wade Miley's season-ending elbow injury creates a long-term hole in the Milwaukee rotation, though Jakob Junis (shoulder) and DL Hall (knee) will eventually return and could push Wilson back to the bullpen over time.
Apr 24 2024Wilson is slated to serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson will take the hill for his second start in his last three appearances, with his most recent outing coming in relief Saturday, when he tossed 1.1 innings against the Cardinals en route to scooping up a win. Since he'll be taking the hill Wednesday on three days' rest and hasn't recorded more than 11 outs in any of his seven appearances on the season, Wilson likely won't reach the five innings he'll need to hit to qualify for a win. The Brewers aren't expected to have a designated bulk reliever work behind Wilson, but unless the team calls up another pitcher from the minors prior to Wednesday's contest, Bryan Hudson -- who tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in his last appearance Sunday -- represents the most logical option to fill multiple innings once Wilson exits the game, if needed.
Apr 17 2024Wilson allowed two hits and a walk across 3.2 scoreless innings during Wednesday's 1-0 win against the Padres. He struck out two and didn't factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander opened Wednesday's game for Milwaukee, and he threw 41 of 57 pitches for strikes as the first of five relievers that combined to shut out San Diego. It was Wilson's first start since 2022 with the Pirates, and he's excelled as a reliever for the Brewers over the past two seasons with a 2.85 ERA in 58 appearances. He should return to the relief role but could be an option for more spot starts as the campaign rolls on.
Jan 11 2024The Brewers and Wilson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Wilson's first year of arbitration eligibility. The right-hander thrived in 2023 in his first year as a full-time reliever, posting a 2.58 ERA and 61:22 K:BB over 76.2 innings of work. He'll work in middle relief again in 2024.
Aug 28 2023Wilson (6-0) tossed four scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's 10-6 victory over the Padres. He allowed two hits and posted a 4:1 K:BB in the outing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was summoned after starter Adrian Houser (forearm) left the game after two frames, and he was exceptional, keeping the opponent off the scoreboard and allowing the Brewers to turn a three-run deficit into a comfortable lead. Wilson is seemingly not be a candidate to replace Houser, and that's mainly because he has been so good in his multi-inning relief role, posting a 2.95 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 64 innings out of the bullpen.
Aug 23 2023Wilson (5-0) threw two scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win in Tuesday's victory over the Twins. He struck out three batters and did not allow a runner to reach base. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson entered Tuesday's contest in the sixth inning with Milwaukee trailing by a run, and he wound up with his fifth win of the campaign after five Brewers crossed the plate in the bottom of the same frame. Wilson had a few rough outings in recent weeks, but he tossed six scoreless innings over his last four appearances and now owns a 3.15 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 60 innings this season.
Jun 3 2023Wilson picked up the save during Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds in extras, allowing one unearned run on one hit. He didn't record a walk or strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Devin Williams tossed a scoreless ninth to send the game into the 10th inning, so Wilson got the call in the 11th to secure a two-run lead. The right-hander began the season as a long reliever, but he's been more of a shutdown late-inning option over his last four appearances. The 25-year-old has been sharp to start his first season with the Brewers, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB with three saves and one win across 17 appearances (29.1 innings).
Apr 3 2023Wilson picked up the save in Monday's victory over the Mets while allowing no runs on one hit and three walks while striking out two over three innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Brewers up by double digits, Milwaukee decided not to waste any of their other bullpen arms and allowed Wilson to pick up the rare three-inning save. It's unlikely he'll be inline for more save chances unless the Brewers offer more blowout opportunities.
Mar 14 2023Wilson tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief in Monday's exhibition contest. He allowed one hit, hit a batter and posted a 2:2 K:BB in the outing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson has toed the rubber three times this spring, and he has kept the opponent off the scoreboard on all three occasions while posting a 0.71 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB over 5.2 combined frames. The 25-year-old has not found much success at the top level, but he cannot be optioned, and his strong spring could help him break camp with the big club.
Jan 4 2023The Brewers acquired Wilson from the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite having a fairly clear path to a full-time rotation spot last season for a Pirates squad lacking in established starting options, Wilson did little to make a case that he belonged in the rebuilding organization's long-term plans. In 25 outings (20 starts) overall with the big club in 2022, Wilson produced a 5.52 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while striking out just 15.5 percent of the batters he faced. He showed some improvement over the final two months of the campaign, however, and he did some of his best work against the Brewers, which may have influenced Milwaukee's decision to go out and acquire him after Pittsburgh designated him for assignment last week. Over his four outings against Milwaukee last season spanning 18.1 innings, Wilson generated a 3.93 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
Dec 28 2022Wilson was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Upon the official announcement of Jarlin Garcia's arrival in Pittsburgh, Wilson was booted from the 40-man roster in order to make room for Garcia. Wilson has put up an ERA north of 5.30 and a 1.40+ WHIP in each of the past two seasons, so the next team to take a chance on him may place him in Triple-A until he shows signs of improvement.
Oct 5 2022Wilson allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one across 3.1 innings Tuesday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson entered the game in the third inning, following JT Brubaker. The former recorded 10 outs with relative ease, but he allowed two hits and a walk prior to departing in the seventh frame, and he was ultimately charged with all three runs. Wilson will conclude the season with an ugly 5.52 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 79:32 K:BB across 115.2 innings.
Sep 28 2022Wilson allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six across eight scoreless innings Wednesday against the Reds. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson turned in his best outing of the season and struck out at least six batters for the first time since May 4 -- a span of 18 appearances. He induced 10 groundball outs and also generated 11 swinging strikes across 90 total pitches. Though he's pitched poorly for most of the season, Wilson owns a 3.90 ERA with a 23:8 K:BB across 30 frames and five starts in September.
Sep 24 2022Wilson yielded two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings against the Cubs on Friday. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was in line to pick up his fourth win before Wil Crowe coughed up the lead in the sixth inning, resulting in a Pirates loss. The 24-year-old Wilson threw a fairly clean outing with the exception of Patrick Wisdom's two-run shot in the second. Wilson ended a streak of seven consecutive starts with at least three earned runs and lowered his season ERA to 5.95 through 104.1 frames. He's lined up to face the Reds at home next week.
Sep 17 2022Wilson (3-9) took the loss Saturday versus the Mets. He allowed four runs on four hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out five over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Most of the damage came on a second-inning three-run home run by Eduardo Escobar. The Pirates' offense was unable to cover up that mistake, with Wilson taking his first loss in his last four outings. He's given up at least three runs in seven straight appearances, pushing his season ERA to 6.07 with a 1.48 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB through 99.1 innings across 22 appearances (18 starts). Wilson is expected to draw an easier matchup at home against the Cubs next week.
Sep 12 2022Wilson (3-8) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings Monday, striking out four and earning a win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson turned in three shutout innings to begin the game before serving up a two-run shot to Aristides Aquino in the fourth. The 24-year-old righty has given up at least three runs in six straight starts, posting a 6.43 ERA through 28 frames during that stretch. His season ERA is now sitting at 6.03 with a 62:24 K:BB through 21 appearances. Wilson is projected to face the Mets on the road this weekend.
Sep 8 2022Wilson didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, working six innings as a bulk reliever and giving up four runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He struck out three without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander entered the game in the second inning after Duane Underwood had spotted New York a 1-0 lead, and Wilson made the hole deeper by coughing up four more runs in the fourth. He's been charged with at least three earned runs in seven of eight appearances since the All-Star break, posting a 5.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 38.2 innings over that stretch.
Aug 29 2022Wilson yielded three runs on five hits and two walks over three frames Monday against the Brewers. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson threw just 29 of 56 pitches for strikes during the Pirates' loss Monday. He's been tagged with seven runs (six earned) over just four innings in his last two outings, raising his season ERA from 5.74 to 6.12 during that span. In six August starts, the 24-year-old posted a 5.74 ERA and a 15:5 K:BB. Wilson is currently expected to face the Mets at home next week.
Aug 26 2022Wilson (2-8) yielded four runs (three earned) on five hits over one inning Friday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson tossed 43 pitches and barely escaped the first inning. The first four batters of the inning reached base, including Bryce Harper knocking a two-run single. The 24-year-old righty saw his ERA climb to 6.01 through 79.1 frames after his shortest outing of the year. Wilson is lined up to face Toronto at home next week.
Aug 19 2022Wilson allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three runs against Wilson came via the long ball. He gave up a two-run shot to Nick Senzel in the second inning followed by TJ Friedl's solo blast in the fifth. Wilson completed seven innings for the first time in his MLB career and lowered his season ERA to 5.74 through 78.1 frames. The 24-year-old is lined up to start in Philadelphia next week.
Aug 12 2022Wilson (2-7) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one in 5.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson couldn't build off Sunday's strong outing versus the Orioles. Mike Yastrzemski did most of the damage against Wilson, knocking in three of the four runs on his line. The 24-year-old right-hander continues to struggle with consistency, though he's been generally better since the start of July. He has a 5.93 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB through 71.1 innings across 16 appearances (13 starts) this year. Wilson is projected for a home start versus the Red Sox next week.
Aug 7 2022Wilson (2-6) allowed a run on four hits and no walks while striking out five in five innings to earn the win over the Orioles on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson had one of his best performances of the season Sunday and was rewarded with his first win since July 2. The right-hander has picked up just two wins over 15 appearances (12 starts) this year, but he's been relatively effective since the start of July, posting a 3.34 ERA in 32.1 innings over his last six outings. He projects to make his next start on the road against San Francisco on Friday.
Aug 3 2022Wilson did not factor into the decision against the Brewers on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out two and walking one over 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All of Wilson's three runs allowed came on solo shots in the top of sixth inning. The Pirates' offense would come roaring back in the bottom of the inning to help Wilson avoid the loss. He threw 54 of 80 pitches for strikes in the game. The righty has allowed at least one run in each of his appearances since May 10. Since then, he has just one game with fewer than six hits allowed, but has also allowed just ten total walks during that span. Wilson has decreased his ERA in each of his appearances since June 14, and it now sits at 6.20.
Jul 27 2022Wilson (1-6) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over six innings as the Pirates were downed 4-2 by the Cubs. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The quality start was Wilson's third in four trips to the mound in July, but he's collected a win in only one of them thanks to a lack of run support. The right-hander has a 3.27 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over that stretch with a 13:2 K:BB through 22 innings, a massive improvement on the 8.29 ERA and 1.84 WHIP he carried into the month.
Jul 23 2022Wilson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Cubs in Chicago. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll retain a spot in the Pittsburgh rotation coming out of the All-Star break after striking out three over 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs against the Rockies on July 17 following his call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis. So long as Wilson avoids an implosion against the Cubs, he could build some security at the back end of the rotation.
Jul 17 2022Wilson didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 8-3 victory over Colorado, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson surrendered one run two batters into the game but was able to keep Colorado's offense in check until the fourth inning, when he departed with one out and two on. The bullpen let an inherited runners score, but the 24-year-old's three-start streak of allowing two runs or fewer remains alive. During the stretch, Wilson has pitched to a 2.81 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 16 innings though he owns a poor 6.52 mark in 49.2 innings on the season.
Jul 8 2022Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson served as the 27th man in Thursday's doubleheader and started Game 2, and he took the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) across 6.2 innings. The right-hander has a 6.60 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 35:16 K:BB over 46.1 frames in the majors this year.
Jul 7 2022Wilson (1-5) took the loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Reds. He was charged with four runs (one earned) on seven hits and zero walks with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The defense let Wilson down and Cincinnati cashed in with a couple additional runs after he exited the game in the seventh. Despite the loss, this goes down as another step in the right direction -- he now has a 2.13 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his last two starts spanning 12.2 innings. Wilson still has a long way to go (6.60 ERA, 1.68 WHP at the major-league level this season), and he will be headed out as the designated 27th man for this doubleheader, but the right-hander remains in the mix for starts in the second half.
Jul 6 2022Wilson will be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Reds, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was sent down by Pittsburgh on Sunday but will rejoin the major-league club to make a spot start during Thursday's nightcap. He's had lackluster results over his last five major-league outings and has posted a 10.89 ERA and 2.27 WHIP in 20.2 innings during that time.
Jul 3 2022The Pirates optioned Wilson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Wilson was sent back to the minors after striking out four and allowing two earned runs over six innings en route to capturing a win in Saturday's 7-4 triumph over the Brewers, he shouldn't have to wait long before rejoining the big club. According to Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that the demotion won't preclude Wilson from rejoining the big club Thursday, when the Pirates will need to break in a temporary sixth starter for their doubleheader with the Reds.
Jul 2 2022Wilson (1-4) earned the win during Saturday's 7-4 victory over Milwaukee, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was far from stellar Saturday as he hit two Brewers in addition to permitting eight hits and a walk, but he was able to limit the damage to just two runs while receiving seven runs of support. The 24-year-old fired 54 of 85 pitches for strikes but recorded just five swinging strikes, though the four strikeouts match his second-best total in seven starts this year. With the solid performance, Wilson will likely stick in the rotation for at least one more turn with a start scheduled for midweek against Cincinnati.
Jul 1 2022Wilson will be recalled to start Saturday against the Brewers, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson may be asked to soak up several innings after the Pirates were rocked for 19 runs Friday. The 24-year-old righty was far from impressive in six starts and three relief appearances before being sent down, struggling to an 8.29 ERA.
Jun 16 2022The Pirates optioned Wilson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Wilson was up with the Pirates for only one day after he was needed to make a spot start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals. Even though Wilson appeared to make strides over his three starts at Triple-A prior to his call-up, the young right-hander once again struggled in his return to the majors. He covered five innings in the Pirates' 9-1 loss and was blasted for seven earned runs on 10 hits and a walk.
Jun 15 2022Wilson (0-4) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, coughing up seven runs on 10 hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over five innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three long balls off Wilson came in the first two innings, with Paul Goldschmidt cranking two of them. The right-hander hadn't appeared in the majors since May 22 before being summoned for the twin bill, but he'd been pitching well for Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a 3.32 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 19 innings over three starts. Expect Wilson to get sent back to Indianapolis after this rough outing.
Jun 13 2022The Pirates plan to call up Wilson from Triple-A Indianapolis to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader in St. Louis, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pittsburgh is expected to designate Wilson as the 27th man for the twin bill, so he'll likely be sent back to Triple-A immediately after the spot start. Wilson submitted a 3.32 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 19 innings in his three starts for Indianapolis after losing his spot in the big-league rotation and getting optioned to the minors May 23.
May 23 2022The Pirates optioned Wilson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pirates manager Derek Shelton said that Wilson will continue starting as he heads to Indianapolis, after the 24-year-old right-hander had worked as both a traditional starter and primary pitcher out of the bullpen for Pittsburgh this season. Wilson found little success in either capacity, as he submitted a 7.53 ERA and 1.78 WHIP across 28.2 innings before getting demoted. The Pirates called up Roansy Contreras from Triple-A in a corresponding move and could insert him in the rotation as a replacement for Wilson.
May 22 2022Wilson (0-3) allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two in 1.2 innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cardinals' offense combined to score 18 runs during Sunday's blowout loss, and Wilson was charged with his third loss in his last four starts. He's given up at least three earned runs in each of his last three outings, but Sunday's start was his worst of the year. Since the start of May, the right-hander has posted a 10.80 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 13.1 innings over four appearances (two starts). Wilson isn't guaranteed to keep his spot in the starting rotation, particularly since the Pirates recalled Roansy Contreras following Sunday's game.
May 16 2022Wilson allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in Monday's loss to the Cubs. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson entered the game in the first inning with two outs and bases loaded after Dillon Peters was chased early. He didn't fare much better, failing to retire any of the first five batters he faced while also serving up a grand slam to Willson Contreras. The 24-year-old is sporting a 5.67 ERA and a 22:12 K:BB through 27 frames. Wilson is expected to face the Cardinals at home this weekend.
May 11 2022Wilson (0-2) took the loss in Tuesday's 11-1 rout at the hands of the Dodgers, surrendering six runs on eight hits and a walk over 2.2 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Little went right for Wilson or Pittsburgh in this one, as the right-hander found himself in a 2-0 hole before the top of the first inning was done. Wilson needed 70 pitches (44 strikes) to get eight outs, and he has yet to complete five innings in any of his starts this season. He'll take a 5.82 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 21.2 innings into his next outing.
May 3 2022Wilson is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind Dillon Peters in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Initially listed as the Pirates' scheduled starter for Tuesday's series opener, Wilson will have to wait a day to pitch after the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Though Pittsburgh lists Peters as the starter for the front end of the twin bill, he'll most likely be acting as an opener, as was the case the last time it was Wilson's turn to pitch April 27. While pitching out of the bullpen, Wilson delivered his best results of the season, as he kept Milwaukee off the board for four innings while striking out four and allowing only one baserunner.
Apr 21 2022Wilson did not factor in the decision against the Cubs on Thursday, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander posted his shortest outing of the campaign in large part due to his lack of control. Wilson issued a season-high four free passes and threw only 35 of 60 pitches for strikes in the brief appearance. The poor outing pushed his season ERA up to 6.35, though he hasn't factored in the decision in any of his three starts. His next trip to the mound is tentatively slated to come at home against Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Apr 17 2022Wilson gave up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two across 4.1 innings Saturday against the Nationals. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson has not been involved in the decision in either of his first two starts of the campaign, but the early signs are not really encouraging -- he has given up multiple runs while failing to throw at least five innings in each of his first two appearances. He owns a 4:4 K:BB over his first 8.1 frames of work in 2022.
Apr 11 2022Wilson allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two across four innings in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson drew his first start of the season, though he got off to a dreadful start by allowing three runs in the opening frame. However, he did settle to throw three scoreless innings from there, and he retired the last seven batters he faced. Wilson had prospect pedigree while coming up through Atlanta's system, though he has only a 6.9 K-BB% and has allowed 1.7 HR/9 across 120.2 career frames in the majors.
Apr 6 2022Wilson secured a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day rotation and is scheduled to make his first start of the season Sunday in St. Louis, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson emerged from the Grapefruit League season with a 6.94 ERA and seven walks allowed over 11.2 innings, but he at least excelled at making bats miss by racking up 16 strikeouts. After Wilson posted a lowly 14.3 percent strikeout rate over 100.2 big-league innings between Atlanta and Pittsburgh in 2021, the limited spring sample offers some encouragement that the 24-year-old might be able to take a big step forward in that area. Even if the uptick in strikeouts carries over to the regular season, Wilson will still need to curb both his walks and home runs allowed before he emerges as a usable option in most mixed leagues.
Sep 22 2021Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Wilson (hamstring) will face a 2-to-4-week recovery timeline, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Wilson looks like he'll be in store for a relatively normal offseason once he's cleared to resume full activities in October, he won't pitch again for the Pirates in 2022. After coming over in a deadline deal with Atlanta, Wilson made eight starts for Pittsburgh, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB in 40.1 innings. The 23-year-old righty should have an inside track to a back-end spot in the Pirates' 2022 Opening Day rotation.
Sep 20 2021Wilson (hamstring) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson landed on the shelf Sunday after exiting Saturday's start with the hamstring injury, and he'll be sidelined for the final two weeks of the season. The right-hander made 15 big-league starts between Atlanta and Pittsburgh this season and finished with a 4.88 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 44:18 K:BB across 72 innings.
Sep 19 2021Wilson was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left hamstring strain, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty will miss at least one start and could be out for the remainder of the season while his hamstring returns to full health. Wilson has posted a 4.91 ERA and 23:10 K:BB in 40.1 innings across eight starts since joining Pittsburgh at the deadline. Max Kranick was recalled to fill Wilson's roster spot and start Sunday's game.
Sep 18 2021Wilson (3-7) dealt with hamstring cramps during Saturday's start against the Marlins and left after five innings, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. He picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson apparently felt the cramping on every pitch during the fifth frame, which is when Miami tallied both its runs off him via a two-run homer from Nick Fortes. The right-hander pitched well even with the injury, as he threw 48 of his 68 pitches for strikes. Wilson downplayed the issue after the contest, so he may be able to make his next turn through the rotation.
Sep 12 2021Wilson (2-7) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings and took a loss against Washington on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All five runs against Wilson came via the long ball and he failed to record a strikeout in the subpar outing. He allowed two solo homers to Luis Garcia and Alex Avila followed by a big three-run shot by Lane Thomas. The 23-year-old righty has given up 12 runs through 15.1 innings (7.04 ERA) over his last three outings. Wilson is now sporting a 4.97 ERA with a 41:18 K:BB through 67 frames. He's lined up to take the mound in Miami next week.
Sep 6 2021Wilson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings in Monday's win over the Tigers. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was terrific to start the game, yielding just three hits and a walk through five shutout innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth and coughed up three runs, including a two-run double by Niko Goodrum. It was his second time completing six innings as a Pirate and he lowered his ERA slightly to 4.60 through 62.2 frames. Wilson is lined up to face the Nationals at home this weekend.
Aug 31 2021Wilson (2-6) pitched five innings while giving up four runs on six hits and a walk, striking out one in a loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was hurt by the long ball in this one, surrendering a second-inning blast to Yasmani Grandal and another solo shot in the third to Jose Abreu. He loaded the bases and allowed another run before being pulled with no outs in the sixth inning. It was the third time in his last four starts that he has given up at least three earned runs. His next start will be a road matchup against the Cubs this weekend.
Aug 29 2021Wilson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox in Chicago, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson returned from the injured list Wednesday against the Diamondbacks and tied his season high with seven strikeouts while working five scoreless frames, so it comes as little surprise that he'll stick around in the Pittsburgh rotation. After acquiring Wilson from Atlanta on July 30, the Pirates presumably want to evaluate him throughout September to determine if he's a long-term fit in their rotation.
Aug 25 2021Wilson allowed two hits and two walks while striking out seven across five scoreless innings Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was activated from the injured list prior to his start, but he showed no rust. He generated an impressive 15 swinging strikes on 74 total pitches and also took advantage of his spacious home park by inducing seven flyball outs. Since being dealt to the Pirates, Wilson has maintained a 3.60 ERA with a 15:3 K:BB across 20 innings. He should get the chance to stick in the rotation across the last month of the season as the Pirates try to identify players who can contribute in future seasons.
Aug 15 2021Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Wilson was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to unspecified fatigue, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cherington didn't indicate that Wilson is dealing with an injury; instead, his move to the IL looks to be mostly a means of giving him some extra rest while maintaining roster flexibility. Wilson isn't expected to be shut down for the season, though the Pirates could manage his innings once he's reinstated from the IL. The Pirates called up Dillon Peters from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, and he'll start Pittsburgh's series finale against the Brewers while likely filling Wilson's rotation spot for the time being. Wilson will be eligible to return from the IL beginning Aug. 25.
Aug 14 2021Wilson didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Brewers, giving up four runs on seven hits over four innings in a 14-4 win. He struck out one without walking a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his third start for the Pirates since being acquired from Atlanta, Wilson tossed 41 of 61 pitches for strikes but gave up plenty of hard contact (including two homers) and got the hook before he could benefit in the win column from Pittsburgh's offensive eruption. On the season, the right-hander sports a 4.82 ERA and 31:15 K:BB through 48.2 big-league innings.
Aug 8 2021Wilson (2-5) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson has yielded four runs across 11 innings since he joined Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. The right-hander was fine Sunday outside of a three-run fourth inning, and the seven strikeouts were a season high. He's posted a 5.24 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 30:15 K:BB across 44.2 innings overall. Pittsburgh's not exactly brimming with talent in the rotation, so Wilson could remain in a starting role, which would have him in line to face Milwaukee next weekend.
Aug 4 2021Wilson is scheduled to make his next start with the Pirates on Sunday in Cincinnati, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being acquired from Atlanta ahead of the trade deadline last Friday, Wilson immediately slotted into the Pittsburgh rotation. He made his team debut Monday, working five innings while giving up a run on two hits and two walks en route to taking a loss to the Brewers. The outing was good enough for Wilson to earn a second turn through the rotation, but his weak peripherals over 38.2 big-league innings this season (5.49 FIP, 5.3 K-BB%, 1.63 HR/9) suggest fantasy managers can't put much trust in him.
Aug 1 2021Wilson will start Monday's game at Milwaukee, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old was added to Pittsburgh's active roster Saturday after being acquired from Atlanta a day prior, and he'll debut with his new team Monday. Wilson posted a 5.88 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB across 33.2 innings over eight starts for Atlanta this year.
Jul 31 2021Wilson was activated by the Pirates on Saturday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was dealt from Atlanta to Pittsburgh on Friday as part of the package for Richard Rodriguez, and he'll claim a major-league roster spot. The 23-year-old served as a starter in each of his eight big-league appearances with Atlanta this year and posted a 5.88 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 33.2 innings. The Pirates haven't specified how they'll use Wilson, but he could be utilized as a long reliever for now.
Jul 30 2021Wilson was sent from Atlanta to Pittsburgh along with Ricky DeVito on Friday, with Richard Rodriguez going the other way, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson broke into the majors as a 20-year-old back in 2018 but has thus far shown very little at the big-league level, struggling to a 5.90 ERA in 76.1 innings. At age 23, he still has plenty of time to improve, but he has a lot of work to do just to look like a passable back-end starter. He's at least found himself with an organization that has little reason not to give him the opportunity to prove himself, however.
Jul 27 2021Atlanta optioned Wilson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second time in less than a week, Wilson will be sent back to Triple-A after being called up the prior day to start the second game of a doubleheader. His latest outing went better than his first, as held the Mets scoreless over three frames Monday while striking out two and allowing six baserunners in a no-decision.
Jul 26 2021Wilson was recalled as expected ahead of his scheduled start in the nightcap of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson will merely be the 27th man for the twin bill, so it's likely he heads right back to the minors following the game. He's still just 23 years old, but he's shown little reason to get excited this year or in any of his other three partial seasons in the big leagues, posting a 6.46 ERA in seven starts this season and a 6.14 ERA in 73.1 innings for his career.
Jul 25 2021Atlanta plans to call up Wilson from Triple-A Gwinnett to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Mets, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson will presumably be designated as Atlanta's 27th man for the twin bill, just as he was for last Wednesday's doubleheader with the Padres. He also started the second game of that doubleheader, working four innings in the outing while giving up five runs on eight hits and no walks. The depleted Atlanta pitching staff could surely use another capable arm, but Wilson still looks like he'll be the odd man out of the rotation when the team will be able to scale down to five starters following Monday's twin bill. He's submitted a 6.46 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across his seven starts in the majors in 2021.
Jul 22 2021Atlanta optioned Wilson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Wilson returns to the minors one day after Atlanta designated him as its 27th man for its doubleheader with the Padres. He started the second game of the twin bill, which was ultimately suspended in the middle of the fifth inning due to inclement weather. Wilson was in line to take the loss after lasting just two innings while giving up five runs on four hits and four walks. Despite the ugly outing, Wilson could be a candidate to make another spot start Monday in Queens, when Atlanta will face the Mets in a doubleheader.
Jul 21 2021Atlanta recalled Wilson from Triple-A Gwinnett and appointed him as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson is scheduled to start the second game of the twin bill for Atlanta, but he'll likely need to dazzle during the outing to stick around with the big club beyond Wednesday. The 23-year-old righty is likely just making a spot start for Atlanta, which was forced to temporarily expand its rotation to six men due to the doubleheader. Over his six starts with Atlanta in 2021, Wilson has gone 2-3 with a 5.34 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 28.2 innings.
Jul 20 2021Wilson will start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson is currently with Triple-A Gwinnett but will presumably be called up as the 27th man for the twin bill. His 4.23 ERA in nine starts and one relief appearance at the Triple-A level this season is fine but forgettable, though it's at least better than his 5.34 ERA in six major-league starts.
Jun 20 2021Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following Sunday's start against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was charged with the loss in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader, as he gave up five runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out four in four innings. He'll head back to the minors ahead of Sunday's nightcap but could be an option to rejoin the major-league club at some point next week.
Jun 17 2021Wilson will likely start Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson has been with Triple-A Gwinnett since May 23, and he's made four starts in his most recent minor-league stint. He last pitched June 15, which means that he'd be on full rest if he takes the mound in Sunday's series finale against St. Louis. Atlanta's starters are dealing with several injuries, so Kyle Muller will likely start one of the two games in Monday's doubleheader against the Mets. It's not yet clear whether Wilson could remain in the rotation while Tucker Davidson (forearm) is sidelined.
May 23 2021Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 23-year-old recorded the win Saturday after giving up one run over 6.2 innings, but he'll head back to Triple-A since Atlanta has a pair of scheduled off days during the upcoming week. Wilson has a 2.13 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB over two starts (12.2 innings) in May, and it's only a matter of time before he receives another chance in the majors this season.
May 22 2021Wilson (2-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 6-1 victory over the Pirates, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander tossed 85 pitches (55 strikes) in his second straight quality start in the majors, with only a Michael Perez solo shot marring his day. Homers have been an issue for Wilson this year -- he's served up six in 24.2 innings -- but he's been pitching much better in May as he continues to bounce between the big leagues and Triple-A. He'll take a 4.38 ERA and 15:7 K:BB into his next outing, whether it's for Gwinnett or for Atlanta once again.
May 21 2021Wilson will be called up to start Saturday's game against the Pirates, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's certainly a favorable matchup for Wilson, who has a 3.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB in 11 innings (two starts) at Triple-A Gwinnett. He was less successful in the big-league rotation earlier this season, logging a 5.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB in 18 innings (four starts). If Wilson impresses this time out, he could stick around while Huascar Ynoa (hand) is on the injured list.
May 12 2021Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson started Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five in six innings. He didn't factor into the decision and will now head to the minors after right-hander Chris Martin (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
May 11 2021Atlanta recalled Wilson from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson will likely be up with Atlanta for just one start, as skipper Brian Snitker wanted to skip Drew Smyly's turn in the rotation for a matchup with the Blue Jays after Toronto pummeled the lefty for six runs (five earned) in four innings back on April 30. Relying on Wilson to turn in dramatically better results than Smyly against Toronto may be wishful thinking; the 24-year-old righty has surrendered four home runs and posted an underwhelming 6:5 K:BB in 12 innings at the big-league level in 2021.
Apr 30 2021Wilson was optioned to the alternate training site Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson started Thursday against the Cubs and took the loss after giving up four runs over three innings, and he's now surrendered 14 runs across 11 frames on the season. Sean Newcomb (COVID-19 protocols) was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move, and Edgar Santana was also promoted for bullpen depth.
Apr 29 2021Wilson (1-2) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Cubs, surrendering four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out one batter across three innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Wilson covered a few innings as Atlanta's pseudo-opener. The 23-year-old got off to a rocky start, ending Chicago's 20-inning scoreless streak by giving up an RBI single to Kris Bryant in the first inning. He then allowed Matt Duffy to score on a balk. Trouble struck again with another pair of runs allowed in his third and final frame of the night. On the season, Wilson has compiled a 6.75 ERA and 1.92 WHIP across 12 innings.
Apr 28 2021Wilson will start Thursday against the Cubs on three days rest, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 21-year-old is expected to cover a few innings as an pseudo-opener for Thursday's series finale after starting Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader and throwing 61 pitches across four innings. Wilson has allowed five runs on 11 hits with a 5:3 K:BB through nine innings this season.
Apr 25 2021Wilson (1-1) was tagged with the loss in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks. He gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while fanning four across four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson didn't have his best stuff Sunday and gave up two homers -- Stephen Vogt took him deep in the second, and Kole Calhoun did the same thing in the third. The 23-year-old right-hander now owns a 5.00 ERA through his first two starts of the campaign, and he's failed to pitch more than five innings in any of his outings to date. His next scheduled start is slated for Saturday against Toronto in Florida.
Apr 22 2021Wilson is scheduled to start Sunday's series finale with the Diamondbacks in Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta will get Drew Smyly (forearm) back from the injured list Saturday to fortify a banged-up rotation, but Max Fried's (hamstring) ongoing absence will pave the way for Wilson to pick up a second start. Wilson wasn't dominant by any means in his season debut last weekend against the Cubs, but he came away with the win after giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out one over five innings.
Apr 19 2021Wilson picked up a win in his 2021 debut Sunday, working five innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out one in a 13-4 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta called Wilson up from its taxi squad and moved him into the rotation as a replacement for Max Fried (hamstring), who was placed on the injured list Wednesday. The 23-year-old right-hander didn't dazzle in his first start, but he pounded the zone (50 of his 69 pitches were strikes) and was mostly able to limit the damage while being staked to a big lead for most of the night. With both Fried and Drew Smyly (forearm) on the IL, Wilson should make at least one more turn through the rotation. Wilson's next turn will likely come against the Diamondbacks during the upcoming weekend.
Apr 17 2021Wilson was recalled from the alternate training site Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was sent down in late March but was expected to return sometime in mid-April when the team needed a fifth starter. That has indeed happened, though Wilson could potentially stick around longer than originally planned, as Max Fried (hamstring) and Drew Smyly (forearm) have joined Mike Soroka (Achilles/shoulder) on the injured list.
Mar 26 2021Wilson was optioned to Atlanta's alternate site on Friday but is expected to serve as the team's fifth starter once one is eventually needed, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta has a rotation spot open at least until Mike Soroka returns from Achilles surgery, which won't happen until at least late April. Early off days mean the team won't need a fifth starter right away, but Wilson should at least get a few turns in the rotation before Soroka returns.
Mar 21 2021Wilson allowed one run on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings while striking out three during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander took a line drive off the calf from the first batter of the game, Enrique Hernandez, but Wilson stayed on the mound and was able to regain his focus. Atlanta will need someone to fill a rotation spot to begin the season with Mike Soroka (Achilles) still in the final stages of his recovery, and Wilson's resilience Saturday almost certainly helped his case. He has a 1.98 ERA and 9:4 K:BB through 13.2 innings this spring, but his main competition, Kyle Wright (4.09 ERA, 10:5 K:BB through 11 innings) has also been solid.
Oct 16 2020Wilson earned the win in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers after giving up one run on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk over six innings Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was the first postseason appearance of the 22-year-old's career, and he allowed only a single run via a solo homer from Edwin Rios. Wilson had a 4.02 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB over 15.2 innings during the regular season, but he may have earned the chance to start another playoff game, if the Braves can complete the series win and advance to the World Series.
Sep 30 2020The Braves excluded Wilson from the 28-man roster for their wild-card series with the Reds that began Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atlanta only needs a three-man rotation for its three-game series, so Wilson found himself as the odd man out with the Braves expected to turn to Max Fried, Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright for starts. Wilson could be a candidate to rejoin the postseason roster in the divisional round, should the Braves win their series with the Reds.
Sep 27 2020Wilson went three innings as the starter in Sunday's game against the Red Sox. He allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out two in the no-decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Boston won with a final score of 9-1, but it was not Wilson who let the game get out of hand. He was adequate in his three frames and has made a case for the playoff roster with a 1.13 ERA in his final eight innings of the regular season. Look for Wilson to be a part of the rotation battle next spring.
Sep 26 2020Wilson is scheduled to start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Red Sox, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson made his first start of 2020 earlier this week against the Marlins and gave an injury-plagued Atlanta rotation a much-needed shot in the arm, covering five scoreless frames while striking out seven. On the back of that performance, Wilson will unsurprisingly earn another start, and how he fares Sunday could dictate whether he's included on the postseason roster. Atlanta will likely attempt to get by with a three- or four-man rotation during the playoffs, leaving Wilson and fellow youngsters Kyle Wright and Tucker Davidson to battle for starting roles behind Max Fried and Ian Anderson.
Sep 23 2020Wilson (1-0) threw five scoreless innings on Tuesday, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out seven in an 11-1 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making just his fifth appearance and his first start of the season, Wilson threw 50 of 77 pitches for strikes. It was his first outing without giving up a run in 2020. The 22-year-old is a fringe top-five prospect for the Braves and is still just 22 years old. He will have a chance to compete for a rotation spot in 2021. Wilson may draw the start Sunday against the Red Sox.
Sep 21 2020Wilson will start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was recalled Monday afternoon, and he won't need to wait long before seeing big-league action. He's appeared in four games so far this season, posting a 7.04 ERA and 2.09 WHIP with six punchouts across 7.2 frames.
Sep 10 2020Wilson allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out a batter across four innings Wednesday as he picked up the save over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was not any ordinary save opportunity for Wilson as he came into the game in the sixth with the Braves already leading 22-8. He gave up his only run off a Jorge Alfaro single in the seventh and got Jazz Chisholm to pop out out the very next at-bat to escape a bases-loaded jam. Wilson has now made two appearances since being recalled Sept. 6 and has given up three runs on eight hits and two walks while only managing two strikeouts in five innings.
Sep 6 2020Wilson was recalled from the Braves' alternate training site Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will take the roster spot of Chad Sobotka, who was sent down following Saturday's game. This marks Wilson's second stint with the big-league team this year; he gave up two runs and walked four over 1.2 innings in his lone appearance back on Aug. 11. There's still some hope for Wilson as a starter long term, but he will likely work out of the bullpen again this time around, pitching mostly unimportant innings.
Aug 19 2020Wilson was optioned to the Braves' alternate training site Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old was recalled by the Braves last week and made one appearance during his time with the team, allowing two runs on one hit and four walks over 1.2 innings. Wilson could still rejoin the Braves later in the year, but for now he'll head back to the alternate training site.
Aug 12 2020Wilson worked 1.2 innings in relief during Tuesday's 9-6 loss to the Yankees, giving up two runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starter Touki Toussaint needed 86 pitches to record 12 outs, Wilson was called upon to provide some length out of the bullpen in his season debut. The right-hander struggled to locate his offerings, pumping in only 25 of his 52 pitches for strikes while giving up a solo home run to Aaron Judge. The Braves will have a need for a fifth starter during next week's series with the Nationals, but Wilson's wretched showing Tuesday may have temporarily taken him out of the mix for a spot in the rotation.
Aug 11 2020Wilson was recalled by the Braves on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson will take Sean Newcomb's spot on the roster after the lefty was optioned following an awful outing against the Phillies on Monday, though it's not yet clear if he'll be taking Newcomb's spot in the rotation. Wilson has some prospect pedigree but has yet to put things together in a small sample of 27 big-league innings, posting a 7.00 ERA while striking out 17.5 percent of opposing batters and walking 12.7 percent.
Aug 7 2020Wilson is one of the top candidates to star Saturday in Philadelphia, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Brien is only guessing here, as the Braves are still undecided. He also notes that the team could go with an opener and make it a bullpen game. While Wilson is a fine prospect, he has not had much success as a big-league starter (5.56 ERA in 22.2 innings). Ian Anderson, who is not on the 40-man roster, and Tucker Davidson, who is on the 40-man roster, are probably more intriguing options for fantasy purposes.
Apr 30 2020Wilson could see consistent usage on the Atlanta staff this season if rosters are expanded beyond 26 players, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old right-hander failed to win a rotation spot during training camp and had already been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett when baseball was put on pause, but Wilson would be one of the top candidates to handle a long relief or sixth starter role for the team, along with Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint. Wilson has struggled in his brief tastes of the majors so far, but he posted a solid 3.42 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 118:26 K:BB in 121 innings for Gwinnett last year.
Mar 6 2020Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 22-year-old was attempting to earn a spot in Atlanta's starting rotation for Opening Day, but he'll instead begin his 2020 campaign in Gwinnett. Wilson struggled with a 7.20 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB in four starts (20 innings) in the majors last season, and he figures to receive the call at some point again this year.
Feb 24 2020Wilson worked two innings in his spring debut Sunday against the Tigers, giving up two runs on four hits and recording no strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with Kyle Wright, Sean Newcomb and non-roster invitee Felix Hernandez, Wilson will be a candidate for one of the two openings in the Atlanta rotation heading into the season. The 22-year-old righty didn't make a strong early case for a rotation spot, as he surrendered four consecutive one-out singles in the first inning to put Atlanta in early hole. Wilson recovered with a perfect second frame, but he'll need to find more consistency in his future spring starts if he hopes to break camp with the big club.
Sep 13 2019Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson was sent back to Triple-A in early September to pitch in the minor-league playoffs and now rejoins the Braves for the stretch run. The 21-year-old has a 7.20 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 20 major-league innings this season.
Sep 4 2019Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following Tuesday's game against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's a bit of an odd move, as the Braves have no reason to clear a roster spot due to the expanded September rosters. Perhaps the team simply felt they weren't going to use him the rest of the way. He got knocked around for a pair of runs in 1.1 innings in Tuesday's contest and owns a poor 7.20 ERA in 20 total innings on the season.
Sep 3 2019Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Wilson owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 18.2 innings with the big-league club this season, and he'll get another chance to pitch for Atlanta after rosters expanded to 40 on Sunday.

Jul 20 2018Wilson threw seven scoreless innings Thursday for Double-A Mississippi in a win over Montgomery, giving up three hits and a walk while tying his season high with nine strikeouts. The 20-year-old right-hander has been absolutely brilliant since the calendar flipped to July, allowing only two runs in 27 innings over four starts with a 34:4 K:BB. Wilson's overall numbers in his first exposure to Double-A haven't been exceptional since an early-May promotion from High-A (4.13 ERA, 1.32 WHIP 81:23 K:BB in 72 innings), but it looks like he's figured things out. The Braves' No. 13 fantasy prospect could still see a late-season move up to Triple-A Gwinnett if he continues to dominate the Southern League, but even if he remains in Double-A through the rest of the year, Wilson is on track for a potential 2019 big-league debut.
Apr 27 2018Wilson (2-0) fired 6.2 scoreless innings for High-A Florida in Thursday's win over Lakeland, scattering three hits and two walks while striking out four. The right-hander has been dealing to begin the season, and Wilson now boasts a 0.45 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB through his first 20 innings at High-A. The Braves' system is loaded with pitching prospects and the organization has little reason to rush the 20-year-old, but if Wilson keeps putting up numbers like this, he'll get his first crack at Double-A over the summer.
Aug 3 2017Wilson tossed six scoreless innings Wednesday in Low-A Rome's win over Augusta, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six.The 19-year-old righty gets overlooked in a stacked Braves farm system, sitting as their No. 16 fantasy prospect (and No. 10 pitcher), but in another organization Wilson would be soaring up the rankings after posting a 2.93 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB in 46 innings over his last eight starts. An over-slot fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft, his plus fastball and slider could eventually make him a dominant late-inning reliever in the majors if his changeup never develops, but given his early success in a starting role expect Atlanta to give him every opportunity to work on that third pitch as he climbs the ladder.
Jun 17 2017Wilson has struck out 65 with 18 walks in 68.2 innings for Low-A Rome this season.Overall, the 2016 draft pick has done a nice job keeping hitters off base with a WHIP of 1.06. His ERA of 2.75 is also a nice indication of his ability to prevent offenses from getting confident against him, and he's only been taken deep four times this season. His most impressive outing of the season came June 11, when he only allowed two baserunners and struck out eight over seven innings.
