Jun 30 2025Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Monday that Santander (shoulder) is "nearing" the start of a hitting progression, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Atkins also revealed that Santander suffered a subluxation -- which is a partial dislocation -- when he initially injured his left shoulder back in early May. Previously, the injury was identified merely as inflammation. The Blue Jays have been waiting until Santander is symptom-free before clearing him to ramp up his hitting, and that time could be coming soon. According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, the Blue Jays aren't yet ruling Santander out from being activated from the injured list before the All-Star break, though a second-half return is probably more realistic at this time.
Jun 27 2025Santander (shoulder) hasn't begun swinging or hitting, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander continues to make little-to-no progress in his recovery from left shoulder inflammation, and he remains without a timetable for a return. Considering he hasn't started swinging a bat yet, it's safe to assume he'll be out until after the All-Star break.
Jun 20 2025Santander (shoulder) has yet to resume hitting, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has been on the shelf since late May due to inflammation in his left shoulder. While he's been cleared to throw, he hasn't begun hitting yet. Considering the lengthy layoff, it's likely Santander will need a rehab assignment. If that's the case, Santander shouldn't be expected back until July.
Jun 14 2025Santander (shoulder) isn't ready to resume hitting but will begin throwing this week, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has been out of action since landing on the injured list in late May due to left shoulder inflammation. The veteran outfielder received a PRP injection in early June but hasn't yet progressed to a point where the Blue Jays want him to start swinging a bat. With that in mind, Santander's activation doesn't appear to be imminent. At this point, there's not a clear timeline for when he will begin hitting again.
Jun 3 2025Santander will rest for 5-to-7 days after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured left shoulder, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander landed on the 10-day injured list this past Friday with a shoulder injury that had been nagging at him for a while. The hope is that the PRP injection will help speed along the recovery process and that he will be ready to resume throwing and ramping up after a brief shutdown period.
May 30 2025The Blue Jays placed Santander on the 10-day injured list Friday due to left shoulder inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder has gone 0-for-17 with three walks and seven strikeouts in his past five games, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Santander has been playing through hip and shoulder issues for most of May, and it's his shoulder that ended up sending him to the IL. Alan Roden was called up from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Santander may get a cortisone shot in the coming days, per Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca.
May 24 2025Santander went 2-for-2 with two walks in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup for two straight games due to a left hip issue, but he was back out in right field for Saturday's contest. He reached base safely on all four plate appearances but wasn't brought home to score as the Jays' offense was limited to just one run. Santander has struggled at the plate this season but has been more effective since the beginning of May, slashing .245/.344/.377 with two home runs and six RBI in 61 plate appearances over that span.
May 23 2025Manager John Schneider said Friday that he expects Santander (hip) to be back in the starting lineup Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander appeared as a pinch hitter during the ninth inning of Friday's game and drew a walk, which supports the idea that he's healthy enough to play. The 30-year-old hasn't started a game since injuring his hip Wednesday and is slashing .216/.286/.353 across 56 plate appearances since the start of May.
May 22 2025Santander (hip) is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was lifted from Wednesday's 14-0 win after aggravating a left hip injury. The Blue Jays haven't indicated at this point whether Santander might require a trip to the 10-day injured list, but he will need at least a day or two of rest. Daulton Varsho will get a day in the designated-hitter spot, while Myles Straw will patrol center field for the Blue Jays in Thursday's series finale.
May 21 2025Santander was removed from Wednesday's game against the Padres due to left hip inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's hip has been giving him problems for about a week, and he seemingly aggravated the injury during Wednesday's contest. The Jays will take a closer look at him to determine the severity of his latest flare-up, but the team could consider placing him on the IL at this point to give him the time he needs to fully move past the hip issue. For now, however, Santander should be considered day-to-day.
May 20 2025Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being dropped to sixth in Toronto's lineup Tuesday, Santander responded by smashing his sixth homer of the year. While he's batting just .190 (12-for-63) over his last 17 games, the switch-hitting slugger does have four homers and 10 RBI during this stretch. Santander has dealt with shoulder and hip issues in the early going, so Tuesday's showing was an encouraging sign as he searches for a rhythm at the plate going forward.
May 18 2025Santander (hip) is batting fifth as the designated hitter Sunday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old sat out the previous two games due to hip soreness but is ready to go for Sunday's series finale versus Detroit. Santander was unavailable last weekend in Seattle due to a shoulder issue and played just three games before tweaking his hip. He's mostly struggled at the plate in his first 40 games with the Blue Jays and has a .187/.270/.316 slash line with five homers, 16 RBI and 12 runs.
May 17 2025Santander isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers due to left hip soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's hip reportedly began bothering him after a swing Thursday, and it helps explain why he sat out Friday's contest as well. His absence will move Vladimir Guerrero into the DH spot Saturday, putting Ernie Clement at first base and opening up second for Michael Stefanic.
May 16 2025Santander is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander went 1-for-12 with five strikeouts in the past three games after sitting out a few days due to a shoulder issue, and he'll hit the bench for Friday's series opener against the Tigers. George Springer will serve as the designated hitter while Jonatan Clase and Nathan Lukes start in the corner outfield spots.
May 13 2025Santander (shoulder) will start at designated hitter and bat third Tuesday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Santander is back in action after sitting out the Blue Jays' entire weekend series in Seattle. He suffered the shoulder injury while playing the outfield Thursday, and the Blue Jays could look to use him at DH in the short term if his throwing is still an issue. Santander is hitting .196 with five home runs in 160 plate appearances during his first season in Toronto.
May 12 2025Santander (shoulder) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Rays, Mitch Bannon of the Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder sat out all three games of the Blue Jays' weekend series in Seattle after tumbling into the seats in Anaheim on Thursday trying to catch a foul ball. Santander's had a bumpy start to his Toronto tenure, but he was starting to come around prior to injuring his shoulder, batting .250 (10-for-40) with three homers and eight RBI over his last 10 contests.
May 11 2025Santander (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will hit the bench for a third straight game as he continues to nurse the sore left shoulder he suffered Thursday. Toronto has a scheduled day off Monday, so the outfielder will end up having four full days of rest heading into Tuesday's series opener versus the Rays. Nathan Lukes and Jonatan Clase are starting in the corner-outfield spots Sunday for the Blue Jays.
May 10 2025Santander is not in Saturday's starting lineup against the Mariners due to a shoulder injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has been receiving treatment on his shoulder after crashing into the stands in a pursuit of a foul ball during Thursday's game against the Angels, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. Santander will be out of the starting lineup for a second consecutive game as a result of his injury, but he could be available off the bench Saturday. George Springer will serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter while Myles Straw, Daulton Varsho and Nathan Lukes start in the outfield.
May 9 2025Santander isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will get a breather during Friday's series opener after going 5-for-14 with a homer and four RBI during Toronto's previous series in Anaheim. His absence will put George Springer in the DH spot while Jonatan Clase picks up a start in left field, batting ninth.
May 6 2025Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is up to five homers this season, three of which have come over his last eight games. In that span, the outfielder has gone 6-for-30 (.200) with five RBI and five runs scored. Santander's finding a little more success, but it'll take some time for that to be reflected in his overall numbers. He's batting. 180 with a .597 OPS, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored and five doubles over 34 games this season.
Apr 30 2025Santander went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's extra-inning win over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is finally starting to emerge from his early-season doldrums, going deep in two of his last three games. The slugging switch hitter still has work to do, however, as he's slashing .175/.258/.316 with four round trippers, four doubles, 12 doubles and nine runs scored through 128 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should stay patient with Santander, who should continue to see plenty of RBI opportunities while primarily batting third in Toronto's lineup.
Apr 16 2025Santander went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander broke the game open with a three-run blast off Spencer Schwellenbach in the fifth inning to put Toronto up 6-1. It was Santander's second long ball of the season and his first at home as a member of the Blue Jays. Though his average currently sits at just .211, Santander now has a hit in six straight games, including homers in two of his last four, and has struck out once over his last 17 at-bats.
Apr 12 2025Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had yet to record his first homer as a Blue Jay, but a return to Camden Yards proved to be what he needed to tick that achievement off his list. After grounding out in his first at-bat, Santander took a fastball from Tomoyuki Sugano deep to left-center field for a 409-foot solo home run. Santander has gone 8-for-39 with three runs scored, five walks, one home run, two RBI and 11 strikeouts over his last 10 games.
Mar 29 2025Santander went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A first-inning single off Charlie Morton gave Santander his first hit with Toronto, and he added another as part of a five-run fourth inning for the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old slugger hasn't produced an extra-base hit yet in 2025, but those should come soon enough -- he banged out at least 70 in each of the last two seasons for the O's, including a career-high 44 homers in 2024.
Mar 6 2025Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran slugger got hold of a Carson Fulmer fastball in the sixth inning and crushed it over the right-field fence. It was Santander's first long ball of the spring, and after racking up a career-high 44 homers and 102 RBI for the O's in 2024, the free-agent signing is being counted on to supply big power numbers this season from the heart of the Blue Jays' order.
Feb 26 2025Manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Santander has been away from Blue Jays camp while tending to visa issues, but Santander is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had reported to camp previously but then had to leave to sort some things out. He will go through a full workout Thursday before playing Friday against the Yankees. Santander signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract with Toronto in January.
Jan 20 2025The Blue Jays have agreed to a five-year, $92.5 million contract with Santander, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal includes an opt-out after 2027 season that can be voided if a 2030 club option is exercised. If the latter occurs, the total value of the contract would reach $110 million. It's a much-needed "win" for Toronto, as it has been in the running to sign numerous big free agents the last couple years but routinely has come up short. Santander is coming off a 2024 season which saw him slash .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs, 91 runs and 102 RBI in 155 regular-season games with the Orioles. He will likely see plenty of starts both in left field and in the designated hitter slot.
Nov 19 2024Santander rejected the Orioles' $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move was expected, as this is the 30-year-old Santander's one chance to get a big long-term deal. The switch hitter slashed .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs, 91 runs and 102 RBI in 155 games last season for Baltimore and he has 105 homers in 460 games over the past three seasons. If he signs elsewhere, Baltimore will receive a draft pick.
Nov 4 2024The Orioles extended Santander a $21.05 million qualifying offer Monday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rill relays that while Santander is unlikely to accept the offer, it allows the Orioles to receive draft compensation if the 30-year-old outfielder signs with another team. Santander appeared in 155 regular-season games for the Orioles in 2024 and finished with a slash line of .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs and 102 RBI over 665 plate appearances.
Sep 29 2024Santander is absent from Sunday's lineup against Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will rest for the regular-season finale after going 2-for-9 with one RBI over his last two outings. Unless he pinch hits Sunday, he'll end the 2024 regular season slashing .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs and 102 RBI over 665 plate appearances. The Orioles will start Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn in the outfield.
Sep 24 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had one of three homers in the game that helped lift the Orioles to a playoff-clinching win. The outfielder has gone just 9-for-47 (.191) over his last 13 games, but five of those hits have been homers, and he's added nine walks in that span. For the season, he's up to a .235/.309/.512 slash line with 44 homers, 100 RBI, 90 runs scored and two stolen bases across 151 contests.
Sep 21 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 7-1 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander hit the first of the Orioles' five homers in the contest, giving them a lead they'd never relinquish. He's hit four long balls over his last 10 games despite batting just .222 (8-for-36) in that span. He's enjoying a career year in the power department with 43 homers and a .515 slugging percentage over 148 games, and he's just one RBI shy of reaching 100 for the first time in his career.
Sep 19 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, two walks and a second run scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After the Orioles lost a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, Santander delivered a much-needed blast in the bottom half with a two-out, two-run homer off Ryan Walker to give Baltimore the win. Like much of the O's offense, Santander had been struggling of late, going just 2-for-20 in his previous five games. Still, the 29-year-old switch hitter is slashing a strong .238/.310/.511 across 630 plate appearances this year with career highs in both home runs (42) and RBI (97).
Sep 11 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's solo shot in the eighth inning tied the game, though the Orioles went on to lose on a Tyler O'Neill walk-off homer in the 10th. Santander's long ball was his 41st of the campaign, third-most in the majors behind Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. Santander also has 95 RBI on the campaign, tying the career-best mark he established last season.
Sep 9 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI single and an RBI walk during Monday's 12-3 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander drove in all three of the Orioles' runs Monday and clobbered a solo homer in the seventh inning off Josh Winckowski. The outfielder became the third player to reach the 40-homer milestone this season, joining Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. Santander is slashing .241/.310/.516 across 596 plate appearances in 2024.
Sep 1 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer in Saturday's loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander crushed a two-out, two-run homer off Ryan Feltner in the top of the fourth to bring Baltimore back within one run of the Rockies and later added a double in the eighth, though he would be left stranded as the Orioles went on to suffer their third loss in their last four games. Santander has now hit safely in four straight contests, recording multiple knocks twice over that stretch. He hit just .198 in August, even following Saturday night's performance, though he still contributed eight homers, 15 RBI and 16 runs on the month. He sits at third in the majors in home runs with 39.
Aug 23 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-5 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Trailing 5-2 in the eighth inning, Santander cleared the bases with a 403-foot blast off Bryan Abreu. The 29-year-old has gone just 7-for-39 across his past 10 games but has still powered up with three homers in that span. On the season, he ranks third in the majors with 39 long balls to go along with a .238 average, 86 RBI and 77 runs scored across 531 plate appearances.
Aug 20 2024Santander went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander made an early impact, putting the Orioles ahead 2-0 with his first-inning blast. The outfielder has gone just 7-for-44 (.159) over his last 11 games, but five of those hits have gone for extra bases. He's up to 37 homers on the year while adding 82 RBI, 75 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .239/.306/.528 slash line over 121 contests.
Aug 18 2024Santander is not in Sunday's lineup against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will begin Sunday's contest in the dugout after going 2-for-12 with two runs scored and two walks over the first three games of the series. Ryan O'Hearn will start in right field while Eloy Jimenez serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 13 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has four homers over his last six games, but he also struck out multiple times for the fourth contest in a row Tuesday. Still, his power remains impressive, as he's up to 36 homers this season and hasn't gone more than four games without a long ball since the All-Star break. He's added a .243/.309/.538 slash line, 80 RBI, 72 runs scored and two stolen bases across 115 contests this season.
Aug 11 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the Orioles racking up nine hits, Santander's solo blast off Jeffrey Springs in the fourth inning was the team's only run of the game. Santander has launched four home runs in August, going 8-for-41 (.195) with six RBI and seven runs during the month. He's up to 35 homers on the year, tied for the second most in baseball.
Aug 8 2024Santander went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder belted a two-run homer off Bowden Francis in the first inning before adding a solo shot off Ryan Yarbrough in the eighth. Santander has been on an impressive power surge since just before the All-Star break, and over his last 20 games he's slashing .305/.363/.756 with 11 of his 32 home runs on the year. He sits one long ball shy of tying his career high of 33, which he set in 2022.
Aug 4 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-5 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander hasn't done much with speed this year, but both of his stolen bases have come since the All-Star break. He's hitting .304 (21-for-69) over 17 contests in that span, which includes eight home runs and 17 RBI. The outfielder is at a .248/.313/.533 slash line for the year while adding 32 home runs, 75 RBI, 68 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 108 games.
Aug 2 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Little went right for the Orioles in this game, but Santander kept his power surge going with his fifth homer over the last nine contests. The outfielder is batting .306 (11-for-36) in that span. He's up to 32 homers -- one off his career high from 2022 -- while adding 74 RBI, 64 runs scored, one stolen base and a .248/.314/.538 slash line over 105 games this season. He's hit 23 of his 32 homers since the start of June.
Jul 30 2024Santander went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a two-run homer in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double off Chris Bassitt, giving the O's an early 1-0 lead, before extending the advantage to 6-1 in the fifth with an opposite-field homer off Brendon Little. The 29-year-old Santander has been red hot, going 17-for-52 (.327) with eight long balls in his last 13 contests. He's up to 31 homers on the season, tied for third-most in the majors and two shy of a career high. Overall, Santander's slashing .246/.314/.536 with 72 RBI and 62 runs scored across 437 plate appearances.
Jul 29 2024Santander went 3-for-8 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a walk across both games of a doubleheader split against Toronto on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was particularly productive in the first game, collecting two hits, including a two-run homer. The long ball was his 30th of the campaign, elevating the outfielder to his second career 30-homer season. It seems inevitable that Santander will surpass his career-best mark of 33 home runs by the end of the campaign, and with 70 RBI, he has a good chance of beating his career high of 95 runs batted in as well.
Jul 26 2024Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's put on quite an encore from his 13-homer June, adding seven more long balls over 19 contests in July. Six of those homers have come during his current 12-game hitting streak, during which he's batting .320 (16-for-50) with 11 RBI. The outfielder is slashing .244/.306/.528 with 68 RBI, 56 runs scored, one stolen base, 16 doubles and two triples through 98 contests overall. He's on track for a career year in the power department while hitting in the heart of Baltimore's order.
Jul 22 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The eighth-inning blast extended his hitting streak to eight games. In that span, he's gone 11-for-32 (.344) with four homers and nine RBI. Santander is on pace for a career year in power -- his 27 homers this season put him one shy of matching last year's total and six back of his career-best mark from 2022. He's added 66 RBI, 52 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triples, one stolen base and a .242/.307/.524 slash line over 94 contests.
Jul 19 2024Santander went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander belted a two-run shot in the fifth inning and capped off his day with a three-run blast in the seventh. He ended the first half with two home runs over his last 13 games and Friday was his first multi-homer effort since June 15. Santander is slashing .242/.305/.521 with 26 long balls and 63 RBI through 92 games.
Jul 14 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is 13-for-46 (.283) with five extra-base hits and three RBI over 12 contests in July. It was always reasonable to expect that he'd take a step back in the power department after slugging 13 homers in June. For the season, the outfielder is slashing .237/.301/.503 with 24 long balls, 58 RBI, 49 runs scored, 16 doubles and two triples over 91 games.
Jul 8 2024Santander went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 6-3 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles on the board in the first inning, tagging Oakland starter Mitch Spence for a solo shot. The long ball was Santander's ninth of the last 21 games, bringing his season total to 23 homers. Only Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Gunnar Henderson have hit more round trippers than Santander.
Jun 29 2024Santander went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an RBI double, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles on the board with a second-inning homer, and his RBI double in the seventh provided a key insurance run. He may never want June to end -- he's batting .274 (29-for-106) with 13 homers and 26 RBI across 27 contests this month. The incredible surge has him up to 22 homers, 55 RBI, 46 runs scored, 14 doubles and no stolen bases through 78 games this season, though he's still batting a middling .233 despite his .813 OPS.
Jun 27 2024Santander isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will get a breather Thursday after going 1-for-11 with a homer and two RBI during Baltimore's previous series against the Guardians. Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Heston Kjerstad will make up the Orioles' outfield while Santander sits.
Jun 25 2024Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-8 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's up to 12 homers over 24 contests in June. The power surge is impressive, though he's losing a little consistency at the plate by going just 2-for-15 over the last four games. That quiet stretch has taken some of the wind out of his sails as he looks to get his season-long numbers at a respectable level. Santander is slashing .232/.302/.505 with 21 homers, 53 RBI, 44 runs scored, 13 doubles and one triple over 75 contests.
Jun 22 2024Santander went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander knocked an RBI single in the third inning before capping off Baltimore's seven-run eighth with a two-run shot. He entered June with nine homers and a .712 OPS through 51 games. Since then, he's caught fire; Santander has ripped 11 home runs while producing a 1.090 OPS in 20 June contests. Of those 11 long balls, six have come in his last seven games. Santander is now slashing .237/.309/.515 with 34 extra-base hits and 51 RBI this season.
Jun 20 2024Santander went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and a walk in Thursday's 17-5 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has gone 8-for-25 (.320) with five homers and 11 RBI over his last six games. The outfielder is up to 19 homers on the year, with 10 of them coming in June. He's slashing .230/.304/.502 on the year while adding 48 RBI, 42 runs scored and 13 doubles over 70 contests. Santander's finished below a .260 batting average in each of the previous three seasons, so it's not unusual for him to make most of his impact with power.
Jun 19 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old spoiled a combined shutout bid for New York when he took Clay Holmes deep in the top of the ninth inning. Santander has slugged four homers in the last four games, continuing a massive June that has seen him slash .292/.347/.738 with nine of his 18 long balls on the season.

Santander continued his June power binge, homering for the eighth time in 15 contests this month. Jun 9 2024Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has homered in every other game in June, going 11-for-35 (.314) with five long balls and eight RBI over nine contests this month. It's a continuation of the momentum he found at the plate in late May, though the uptick in power is an added positive. The outfielder is up to 14 homers, 37 RBI, 34 runs scored, 13 doubles and one triple while slashing .227/.306/.480 through 60 contests this season.
Jun 8 2024Santander went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's slow start to the season stood out compared to most of the rest of the Orioles, but he's warmed up significantly. Over his last 15 games, the outfielder is hitting .291 (16-for-55) with six homers and 11 RBI. He's homered in four of his last seven contests and now has a .227/.306/.472 slash line with 13 long balls, 36 RBI, 33 runs scored and no stolen bases over 58 games this season.
Jun 5 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander produced the first run of the contest with his solo shot to right field in the second inning. He's gone deep in three of his past five contests to push his season total to 12 long balls. Santander is also working on an eight-game hitting streak during which he's gone 11-for-30 (.367 average) with three homers, six RBI and seven runs.
Jun 4 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, going 12-for-41 (.293) with four homers and eight RBI in that span. He continues to dig himself out of a rough start to 2024, though he's still at a .223/.301/.450 slash line over 54 contests. Santander has added 11 homers, 33 RBI, 31 runs scored, 11 doubles and a triple while seeing steady playing time in right field.
Jun 2 2024Santander went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 9-5 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has started to look more like himself, going 9-for-32 (.281) with three homers over his last nine contests. For the year, he's slashing .218/.300/.440 with 10 homers, 30 RBI, 29 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases. Santander has been plagued by a .224 BABIP this year, so it's no surprise his overall numbers are down, but it's a reason for optimism that he'll be able to turn things around.
May 27 2024Santander is absent from the lineup for Monday's tilt against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has homered twice in his last four contests, but he's also done a lot of swinging and missing of late with 10 strikeouts across his past 25 plate appearances. Kyle Stowers is getting a start in right field.
May 26 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-3 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander put the Orioles ahead with the second of their three homers in the eighth inning. He's gone 3-for-15 with two homers and four RBI over his last four contests. The outfielder is up to a .205/.284/.432 slash line with nine long balls, 29 RBI, 25 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases through 197 plate appearances. Santander started three of the last four games in right field before resting his legs as the designated hitter Saturday, so it looks like he's moved past the bruised knee that bothered him earlier in the week.
May 24 2024Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-6 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's homer was his eighth of the season and first since May 11. He's been battling a bruised knee over the last week, which could explain his 2-for-20 run at the plate over his last five games. The outfielder is slashing .206/.280/.424 with 27 RBI, 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 189 plate appearances. Aside from the knee issue and the occasional rest day, he's been a regular in the Orioles' lineup as the team's starter in right field.
May 21 2024Santander is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has been banged up with bruised knee recently and will get a day off Tuesday after going hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Colton Cowser will bat fifth and play left field against Lance Lynn and the Cardinals.
May 20 2024Santander (knee) is batting fifth as the designated hitter Monday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander aggravated his bruised knee Saturday against the Mariners and was held out of the lineup Sunday, but he's been cleared to bat in the series opener at St. Louis. The 29-year-old said Sunday that running in the outfield has been a bit problematic, so he could continue to serve as Baltimore's DH for the next few days as he completes his recovery.
May 19 2024Santander is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners due to soreness and swelling in his left knee, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old served as Baltimore's designated hitter the past two days after he suffered a bruised knee Wednesday, and he aggravated the injury while running the bases. Santander said running in the outfield remains a bit of an issue, so he could be limited to DH duties for a few days as he gets back to full strength.
May 17 2024Santander (knee) is in the starting lineup as the designated hitter for Friday's matchup against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander hurt his knee in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays after first colliding with the outfield wall and then hitting it again during a slide, which led to his exit from the game. The veteran outfielder will be eased back into the lineup at designated hitter while Ryan O'Hearn mans right field.
May 15 2024Santander was removed from Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays due to a bruised knee, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-4 with a double. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander banged up his knee when he collided with the outfield wall and then aggravated it on a double and a slide in the eighth inning before being lifted in the ninth. The injury doesn't sound like a big concern, and it's possible the Orioles' scheduled off day Thursday will be enough rest for Santander. Consider him day-to-day heading into this weekend's series versus the Mariners.
May 11 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's eighth-inning blast was what ultimately forced extra innings Saturday. The outfielder has gone deep three times and driven in seven runs over his last five games. For the season, Santander is sporting a .217/.301/.449 slash line with seven long balls, 25 RBI, 20 runs scored, nine doubles and a triple. He still has yet to attempt a stolen base this season. Santander's production is generally in line with what he did last year, aside from modest dips in his rate stats.
May 9 2024Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is hitting just .227 over seven games in May and batting .215 on the year, but he has a homer in two of his last three contests. The outfielder has added a .737 OPS through 35 games this season, though that's still a decent margin behind last year's .797 mark. Santander is up to six homers, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and no steals through 147 plate appearances while holding down a starting role in right field.
May 5 2024Santander went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Sunday's win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander already had a nice multi-hit performance in the bag before capping his day off with a ninth-inning grand slam in the blowout victory. It was his fifth long ball of the year and first since April 17, snapping a 15-game drought. He posted a .505 OPS over his previous 13 games since his last multi-hit effort April 20. Santander is now slashing .218/.295/.427 with 23 RBI and 15 extra-base hits through 33 appearances.
May 1 2024Santander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will get a breather after he had started each of Baltimore's last 13 games while posting an .886 OPS. The 29-year-old isn't at any risk of losing hold of an everyday role, but he'll cede his spot in the lineup Wednesday to rookie Heston Kjerstad, who has played sparingly since being called up from Triple-A Norfolk on April 23.
Apr 21 2024Santander went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Santander's first three-hit game of the season and just his fourth multi-hit effort. The outfielder is starting to warm up, going 7-for-15 (.467) over his last four contests following a three-game slump. Overall, Santander is slashing .237/.289/.474 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 10 runs scored and six doubles over 19 contests.
Apr 18 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has gone 3-for-18 over his last five contests. That's not a great stretch, but so far, he's in little danger of losing playing time as manager Brandon Hyde gets creative to keep Colton Cowser in the lineup. Santander is batting .203 with four homers, 15 RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases through 74 plate appearances as the Orioles' primary right fielder.
Apr 15 2024Santander is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's Santander's turn to sit this time as the Orioles look to keep Colton Cowser's red-hot bat in the lineup. Santander has three home runs in his first 15 contests this season but is sporting just a .576 OPS.
Apr 12 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 9-4 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander gave the Orioles their first lead of the game with his eighth-inning blast, though Connor Wong tied it for the Red Sox a half-inning later. Santander has hit safely in each of the last four games, going 4-for-18 with four RBI. The 29-year-old is off to a bit of a slow start, slashing .216/.226/.431 over 53 plate appearances, but he already has three homers, 13 RBI, six runs scored and two doubles through 12 contests. Santander does not appear to be at risk of losing playing time yet.
Mar 31 2024Santander went 2-for-4 with a three -run home run and an additional run scored during Saturday's 13-4 win against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles were already up 9-1 when Santander delivered a three-run shot during the sixth inning, guaranteeing a blowout for the second straight game to begin the campaign. The veteran outfielder is well on his way to pushing for another 30-homer campaign with two long balls and seven RBI through the first two games of the season.
Mar 28 2024Santander went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI on Thursday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander drove in Baltimore's first run of the season on a fielder's choice in the first inning. However, he did his biggest damage three frames later, when he took Jose Suarez yard for a two-run homer -- his first of the season. Santander has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last two campaigns and should remain an excellent source of counting stats in 2024.
Mar 3 2024Santander has gone 2-for-14 over his first five Grapefruit League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has just one strikeout in that span, but there's not many positives to take from that stat line. The outfielder had a career-high 95 RBI while hitting .257 with a .797 OPS and 28 home runs last season. He enters 2024 as the penciled-in starter in right field, though the Orioles have a crop of talented outfield prospects that could push him for playing time if he starts the campaign poorly.
Jan 11 2024Santander signed a one-year, $11.7 million contract with the Orioles on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander earned a $4.3 million raise after slashing .257/.325/.472 with 28 homers and 95 RBI across 656 plate appearances last year. Santander's defense and bat have allowed him to maintain an everyday spot in Baltimore's lineup. However, Santander may be on a tighter leash in 2024 as the Orioles continue to promote prospects to their major-league squad.
Sep 29 2023Santander is out of the lineup Friday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander hit a solo home run in the Orioles' division-clinching win over the Red Sox on Thursday and will grab some rest Friday as Austin Hays, Cedric Mullins and Heston Kjerstad start across the outfield.
Sep 28 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles on the board early, tagging Chris Sale for a solo shot in the first inning. Though the long ball was Santander's 28th of the season, it was his first since Sept. 6. Despite the power woes, the outfielder has put together a string of quality performances lately, batting 13-for-39 (.333) with nine RBI and five runs scored over his last nine games.
Sep 23 2023Santander went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's 2-1 win against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was responsible for both of Baltimore's runs in the victory, knocking an RBI double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the sixth. He's driven in at least one run in four straight contests, going 8-for-17 with three doubles and seven RBI over that stretch. Santander's performance Saturday gave him a new career-best total of 91 RBI on the campaign.
Sep 20 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was the only Oriole with multiple hits in this contest. He knocked in their lone run and stole a base in the first inning. It was his second multi-hit effort in a row following an 0-for-18 skid across the previous five games. The slugger is slashing .255/.325/.476 with 27 home runs, 85 RBI, 78 runs scored and five steals through 144 contests overall.
Sep 18 2023Santander is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started Baltimore's last 24 games, but he will get a break on the heels of the Orioles sewing up a playoff spot Sunday. Santander went just 3-for-34 (.088) over his last eight games, so a day off probably will not hurt.
Sep 6 2023Santander went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI, two total runs scored and a walk in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games, going 22-for-61 (.361) with six homers and 17 RBI over that span. The outfielder was one of three Orioles to log three or more hits in Wednesday's win. He continues to be a leader on offense for Baltimore, pacing the team in homers (27), and RBI (82) while adding 73 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .261/.332/.494 slash line over 131 contests.
Sep 3 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander ultimately didn't miss any time after he was hit on the hand by a pitch in Saturday's game. That's good news for the Orioles, as he's now gone 16-for-45 (.356) over 11 games since he returned from a back issue. The 28-year-old is slashing .258/.329/.489 with 26 home runs, 79 RBI, 70 runs scored and four steals over 128 contests this year.
Sep 2 2023Santander will undergo precautionary X-rays after exiting Saturday's game versus the Diamondbacks when he was hit on the right hand by a pitch, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Orioles manager Brandon Hyde is on record as saying he thinks Santander will be fine, which is a good sign, but the X-rays will provide clarity. Santander has a team-leading 26 home runs for Baltimore, with eight of them coming since the start of August.
Aug 30 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander hit a three-run double in the seventh inning and tacked on another RBI with a single in the eighth. The 28-year-old has gone 13-for-32 (.406) during his eight-game hitting streak, racking up four home runs and 12 RBI in that span. For the year, he's at a .258/.329/.486 slash line, 25 homers, 31 doubles, 77 RBI, 67 runs scored and three stolen bases through 124 games in a near-everyday role.
Aug 29 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and an additional run scored in Monday's 9-0 victory over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander added the final blow in the Orioles' shutout victory with a three-run homer off Edgar Navarro in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old Santander has been on a tear of late -- he's hit safely in his last seven games, going 11-for-27 (.407) with four home runs and a 1.317 OPS in that span. Overall, his slash line is up to .256/.328/.485 with 25 homers, 73 RBI and 67 runs scored across 524 plate appearances this season.
Aug 29 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 9-0 victory over the White Sox.
Aug 24 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's fourth-inning blast to Eutaw Street tied the game at 2-2. The outfielder was able to play the full game in right field after exiting late in Wednesday's contest for a defensive replacement. He's gone 4-for-8 with three homers and four RBI since returning from a back injury that kept him sidelined for three contests. The 28-year-old is up to a .252/.325/.480 slash line with 24 long balls, 69 RBI, 63 runs scored, three stolen bases and 29 doubles over 119 games this season.
Aug 23 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 7-0 victory against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had missed three straight games due to a lower-back injury, but he returned to the lineup Wednesday while starting in right field. The outfielder didn't seem to have any lingering effects from the back issue, as he hit a solo shot in each of the fifth and eighth frames to power Baltimore's offense. Santander did get pulled from the game for a defensive replacement in the ninth inning, but that appeared to be a consequence of the lopsided nature of the score rather than a result of aggravating the injury.
Aug 22 2023Santander's back is improving and he could be available off the bench Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tuesday marks four days since Santander was last in the lineup, so we probably can't completely rule out an injured list stint yet; however, this is still encouraging news. In the meantime, Ryan McKenna is getting the start against southpaw Yusei Kikuchi.
Aug 20 2023Santander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics due to back soreness, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Chen, Santander has been receiving ongoing treatment to manage the back issue, but the 28-year-old will receive a second straight day off as the Orioles close out their series in Oakland. Baltimore has a timely off day Monday before beginning a homestand Tuesday, so Santander could be ready to go when the Orioles open their series with the Blue Jays.
Aug 19 2023Santander (undisclosed) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander left in the fifth inning of Friday's series opener, but the Orioles have yet to specify the reason why. It's likely he's dealing with some sort of injury, which also explains why he isn't in Saturday's lineup. Santander's return timeline won't become clear until the team explains the situation, but for now, it will be Ryan McKenna who starts in right field.
Aug 18 2023Santander was removed from Friday's game versus the Athletics with a possible injury, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There was no explanation yet as to why Santander was removed, but it was only the fifth inning so it was presumably injury related. The Orioles should provide more information on their outfielder shortly.
Aug 11 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles within a run in the top of the fourth inning before the Mariners pulled away a half-inning later. While he has three homers over nine games in August, Santander has gone a paltry 7-for-33 (.212) for the month. The outfielder is up to 21 homers, 64 RBI, 59 runs scored, three stolen bases and 29 doubles this season with a .253/.330/.475 slash line through 111 contests. Given the competitiveness of the Orioles' lineup, Santander will likely need to shake this slump soon -- Colton Cowser isn't threatening for playing time, but Ryan O'Hearn has been seeing more time in the outfield of late, and Cedric Mullins' return from a groin injury will make it a more crowded battle.
Aug 6 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander struck out four times Thursday and sat out Friday, and it appears the mental reset did him some good. He's gone 7-for-25 (.280) with five extra-base hits and six RBI across his last six games. For the season, he's at a .257/.329/.480 slash line with 20 homers, 63 RBI, 58 runs scored and three stolen bases over 106 contests. He'll need to stay sharp at the plate to fend off playing time threats from Colton Cowser and Ryan O'Hearn.
Aug 4 2023Santander is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will take a day of physical and mental rest after going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Thursday's series finale versus the Blue Jays. Austin Hays, Ryan McKenna and Ryan O'Hearn are starting across the outfield Friday and Adley Rutschman is taking a turn as the designated hitter.
Aug 2 2023Santander went 3-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam in Tuesday's 13-3 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Nate Pearson deep in the eighth inning for his team-leading 19th homer of the season. Santander is slashing just .209/.303/.403 in 18 games since the All-Star break, but he's provided a solid fantasy floor during that time with three home runs, 10 runs scored and 12 RBI.
Jul 29 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 1-0 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander broke the scoreless tie on the third pitch he saw from Tommy Kahnle in the bottom of the ninth inning. It's been a bit of a quiet stretch for Santander lately -- he's just 6-for-44 (.136) over his last 12 games, though four of those hits have gone for extra bases. He's slashing .259/.330/.475 with 18 homers, 56 RBI, 52 runs scored and three stolen bases through 99 contests overall. With the Orioles' outfield depth being tested by injuries to Aaron Hicks (hamstring) and Cedric Mullins (groin), Santander should continue to see the bulk of the playing time in right field.
Jul 16 2023Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is up to an eight-game hitting streak, going 11-for-30 (.367) with three homers and seven RBI in that span. The outfielder continues to cycle between right field, first base and designated hitter as he maintains a starting role in the lineup. He's up to 17 homers, 54 RBI, 47 runs scored and a .275/.344/.503 slash line through 88 contests overall while hitting in the heart of the Orioles' lineup.
Jul 9 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs, a walk and three total runs scored in Sunday's 15-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had two of the Orioles' six long balls in the contest. He'd gone 12 contests without a homer, hitting .261 over that span. The outfielder put an exclamation mark on a solid first half of the campaign that saw him slash .272/.342/.498 with 16 homers, 50 RBI, 46 RBI, two stolen bases and 24 doubles in 85 contests. His .840 OPS is second only to the .890 he posted over 37 games in the abbreviated 2020 campaign. Santander's strong hitting has helped him stay in the lineup even with the Orioles aggressively promoting prospects to the majors this year.
Jul 2 2023Santander went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was the one of two Orioles to get on base multiple times in the low-scoring contest, and his eighth-inning single was part of the team's rally for the lead. The outfielder is rarely a speed threat -- with two stolen bases, he's set a career high for a season, and he's never attempted more than three in a year. He's put together a solid campaign with a .265/.326/.477 slash line, 14 home runs, 47 RBI, 41 runs scored, 20 doubles and a triple through 78 contests. Santander has hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, going 15-for-51 (.294) in that span.
Jun 25 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's victory over the Mariners. The 28-year-old has been on a tear over the last week, going 10-for-26 (.384) with six runs scored and nine RBI with three multi-hit performances.
Jun 23 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 13-1 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's seventh-inning blast was one of just three hits for the Orioles in this lopsided loss. The outfielder has homered three times and drive in five runs over his last four contests. For the season, he's up to 12 long ball, 43 RBI, 35 runs scored, one stolen base and a .260/.327/.476 slash line over 70 games in a near-everyday role.
Jun 21 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-6 victory over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles started with an RBI single in the first inning before blasting a two-run shot off Tyler Glasnow in the second, extending the lead to 6-0. The 28-year-old Santander has home runs in back-to-back contests and five multi-hit efforts in his last nine games. He's now slashing .264/.332/.475 with 11 homers, 42 RBI and 34 runs scored through 292 plate appearances this season.
Jun 18 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with a solo home run during Sunday's 6-3 win against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old failed to cash in on two at-bats with a runner in scoring position, but he still produced some offense with a fourth-inning solo shot, which was his first home run since May 31. It was Santander's fourth multi-hit effort through 15 games in June, though he's hitting just .217 in 60 at-bats.
Jun 11 2023Santander went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has four doubles and three RBI over his past three appearances and is slashing .264/.336/.476 with nine home runs, 36 RBI and 29 runs scored across 60 games (256 plate appearances). Aside from a periodic day off, the 28-year-old is locked into the middle of Baltimore's lineup and should get plenty of run-producing opportunities hitting behind Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman.
Jun 1 2023Santander went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 12-8 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander feasted on Cleveland pitching to begin this week, going 7-for-13 (.538) with five extra-base hits and five RBI during the three-game series. The outfielder had an excellent May with seven homers and 22 RBI over 27 contests while batting .337 with a 1.056 OPS for the month. He had a sluggish start to the year, but he's now at a .277/.354/.503 slash line through 52 games, cementing his place in the heart of the Orioles' order. The team may opt to play Santander more in right field going forward with Cedric Mullins (groin) likely out for multiple weeks, though manager Brandon Hyde's new preferred outfield arrangement will likely emerge in the coming days.
May 30 2023Santander went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's biggest hit came in the fourth inning when he pulled a bases-clearing triple off Cal Quantrill, extending Baltimore's lead to 6-0. The 28-year-old Santander has back-to-back three-hit games as he's now batting .344 with a 1.057 OPS through 26 games in May. Overall, Santander is slashing .279/.358/.495 with eight home runs, 25 runs scored and 31 RBI across 218 plate appearances this season.
May 29 2023Santander went 3-for-4 with a double in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had over half of the Orioles' five hits as they struggled against Logan Allen and two relievers. This was Santander's second three-hit effort in his last four games, and he's looking no worse for wear after missing Saturday's game with elbow soreness. The veteran outfielder continues to see a near-everyday role between right field and designated hitter. He's slashing .269/.350/.468 with eight home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, 13 doubles and a stolen base through 50 contests.
May 28 2023Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Santander wasn't available for Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers due to left elbow soreness, but Santander will start in right field and bat fourth in Sunday's series finale, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The one-day respite was apparently enough for Santander to move past the elbow issue. Ryan McKenna will move back to the bench Sunday to clear a spot in the outfield for Santander.
May 27 2023Santander is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will get a breather after he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's series opener with Texas. Ryan McKenna will take over in right field and bat eighth against Texas.
May 26 2023Santander went 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander opened the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth inning. He's knocked in at least one run in five of his last seven games, and he's drawn eight walks in that span to supplement his steady bat. The outfielder is up to a .267/.350/.472 slash line with eight home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, 12 doubles and a stolen base. He also has a career-best 11.1 percent walk rate, which has helped offset his 24.6 percent strikeout rate, his worst mark since a 13-game sample in 2017.
May 20 2023Santander went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Trevor Richards deep in the sixth inning, giving Santander eight homers on the year and three in the last five games. The 28-year-old outfielder has been on fire ever since the calendar flipped to May, slashing .344/.425/.688 through 17 games on the month with four doubles, six home runs, 11 runs and 14 RBI.
May 19 2023Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Thursday's loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander tied the score at three with his two-run shot in the fifth inning, but the Angels ended up pulling out a close win. The long ball was the seventh of the campaign for the outfielder, tied for second-most on the team. Santander has added a .263/.330/.474 slash line, 24 RBI and 18 runs over 41 games.
May 16 2023Santander went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 9-5 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander, who was making his first career start at first base, hit a two-run home run in the third that gave the Orioles a 4-3 lead. He added a single in the eighth, marking his 11th multi-hit game of the season. Across 38 games (164 plate appearances), Santander is slashing .262/.329/.469 with six home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored.
May 15 2023Santander is making his first-ever major-league start at first base for the Orioles on Monday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has played some at first base during spring training and a little in the minors back in 2016, but this is his first action there at the big-league level. Ryan Mountcastle will slide into the designated hitter spot.
May 14 2023Santander went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander struggled in this weekend's series versus the Pirates, going 1-for-9 with two walks and two strikeouts over three games. He was able to pick up his first steal of the season Sunday. He's never had more than one theft in a season, and he's never attempted more than three steals, so the outfielder shouldn't be counted on for speed. He's hit fairly well on the year, batting .255 with a .772 OPS, five home runs, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored and 12 doubles through 37 contests.
May 5 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta. Through his first 26 games, Santander posted an ugly .599 OPS. That number has jumped to .758 after going 11-for-30 (.367) with four home runs over his last seven appearances. During that span, he's collected multiple hits five times.
May 4 2023Santander went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in a 13-10 victory versus Kansas City on Thursday. He added a single in the ninth frame, giving him his fourth multi-hit performance over his past five games. During the hot streak, Santander is batting .381 (8-for-21).
Apr 30 2023Santander is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the Tigers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander gets a day of rest after playing both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers and going 2-for-7 with a run scored in the twin billing. Kyle Stowers gets the assignment in right field and will hit cleanup while Santander begins Sunday's contest on the bench.
Apr 27 2023Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 7-4 victory over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Santander hit a two-run home run off Casen Shreve in the seventh, he was struck out in each of his other three at-bats. In his last 21 games, Santander has recorded multiple hits just once while Thursday's homer was just his second on the year. After swatting 33 long shots last season and slashing .240/.318/.455, Santandar is off to a slow start to 2023 despite Baltimore's 17-8 record.
Mar 6 2023Santander started at first base for the Orioles on Monday versus the Phillies in Grapefruit League play, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has not played first base since getting nine starts there at High-A Lynchburg back in 2016. The O's wanted him to get some action there this spring, though, in anticipation of being an option at the position on days Ryan Mountcastle is off or in the designated hitter spot. Santander is coming off a 2022 campaign which saw him club a career-high 33 home runs.
Mar 1 2023Santander (knee) said his knee is fine and that he'll be in the lineup for Wednesday's spring game against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will end up missing just one day of spring action after he was hit by a pitch Monday and suffered a left knee bruise. The 28-year-old split his time between the corner outfield spots and designated hitter over the past few years, but he's also getting in some reps at first base during spring training.
Feb 28 2023Santander was diagnosed with a bruised left knee Tuesday after X-rays came back negative, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old exited Monday's Grapefruit League game after being hit by a pitch in the left knee, but it appears he's only dealing with a minor injury. Santander should be considered day-to-day and could rejoin the lineup as early as Wednesday.
Feb 27 2023Santander is day-to-day with a left knee contusion, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Connolly was plunked in the knee with a pitch and exited with a trainer on Monday. The power-hitting outfielder will likely miss a game or two of Grapefruit League action, but it doesn't sound like this will be something that carries into the regular season.
Feb 20 2023Santander is expected to see some time at first base late in spring training, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will play for Venezuela at the World Baseball Classic, but he's expected to be back to get some reps at first before the season begins. The 28-year-old has exclusively worked as an outfielder and designated hitter in his career, and he's projected to be the Orioles' top right fielder this year, while Ryan Mountcastle will get the bulk of the work at first. Santander is just one of many options to cover for when Mountcastle needs a rest -- Terrin Vavra, Franchy Cordero and James McCann could also be options.
Jan 13 2023Santander signed a one-year, $7.4 million contract with the Orioles on Friday to avoid arbitration, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander slugged a career-high 33 home runs for the Orioles in 2022, producing a .773 OPS along the way. It was also the first time he's managed to stay healthy for a full season (not counting 2020), so the 28-year-old doesn't seem like a great bet to avoid the injured list again in 2023. He'll provide power for fantasy managers when on the field, though.
Oct 1 2022Santander isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is getting a rare day off after he went 0-for-11 with a walk and four strikeouts over the last three games. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter while Robinson Chirinos starts behind the dish.

Sep 26 2022Santander went 2-for-6 with two home runs and three RBI against Boston in a 14-8 win Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's sixth-inning solo shot gave Baltimore a 9-5 lead, and his two-run homer in the following frame extended the margin to 13-5. It was the second time in the past three games that the switch-hitting outfielder has gone deep twice, and Santander now has a career-high 31 long balls and 85 RBI on the campaign. He's hit eight home runs in 23 games during September.
Sep 25 2022Santander went 3-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's loss to the Astros. He followed that up with a two-run homer in the eighth to give the Orioles a two-run lead. The 27-year-old outfielder was hitless in his last 11 at-bats coming in and is still hitting just .195 in the month of September with six home runs, nine RBI and 11 runs scored.
Sep 21 2022Santander isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's third-inning blast off Jose Urquidy was all the Orioles needed for the win. Over his last eight games, Santander has gone 10-for-33 (.303) with three homers, 11 RBI and five runs scored. The outfielder's steady play has kept him in the lineup regularly even with prospect Kyle Stowers in the major-league mix. Santander is slashing .258/.336/.458 with 23 long balls, 73 RBI, 59 runs scored and 20 doubles through 118 contests this year.
Aug 26 2022Santander went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI in Thursday's victory over the White Sox. The 27-year-old outfielder has been heating up in his last six games with a .346 average and .654 slugging percentage in 26 at-bats, and he has recorded two or more hits in three of those contests.
Aug 21 2022Santander went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second time in three games, Santander posted three hits. Through nine games in June he has a .297/.350/.486 slash line with two home runs, four RBI and four runs.
Jun 13 2022Santander was placed on the restricted list Monday ahead of the Orioles' three-game series in Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The timing of the move indicates that Santander made himself unable to enter Canada by declining to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Kyle Stowers was called up to take his place on the roster and will make his major-league debut Monday in left field. Expect Santander to return to action when his teammates return home to take on the Rays on Friday.
Jun 12 2022Santander went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and an RBI single in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo shot and added another RBI in the sixth to pad the lead. The outfielder's now been held without a hit in just one of his last 11 games. He's 14-for-45 (.311) with three long balls in that span. It's an encouraging run for the switch-hitter, who is slashing .238/.337/.421 with 11 homers, 33 RBI, 28 runs scored and six doubles through 59 contests.
Jun 11 2022Santander is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is hitting .290/.353/.419 with one home run in 31 at-bats this month. Trey Mancini will start in left field with Austin Hays shifting to right field and Adley Rutschman getting the nod at designated hitter.
Jun 10 2022Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Friday's 8-1 loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander delivered a solo shot in the ninth inning to prevent the Orioles from getting shut out. The outfielder has been strong lately, going 12-for-39 (.308) with a pair of homers, six RBI and four runs scored in his last 10 games. The run of success has him up to a .236/.337/.409 slash line with 10 homers, 31 RBI, 27 runs scored and six doubles through 58 contests. He's also 0-for-2 on stolen base attempts this year.
May 30 2022Santander went 1-for-4 with a home run, a sacrifice fly and four total RBI in Monday's 10-0 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander delivered two homers, eight RBI and five runs scored during the five-game series versus the Red Sox. The outfielder's struggled to hit a bit lately, going just 7-for-41 in his last 10 games. That skid his caused his season slash line to sink to .220/.332/.405, and he's added nine long balls, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored and five doubles through 49 contests. He's been caught stealing in his two stolen base attempts this year.
May 27 2022Santander went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and three runs scored during Friday's 12-8 win at Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started the scoring for Baltimore with a two-run homer during the fourth inning to cut Boston's lead to 6-2, and he also delivered an RBI single in the ninth to take the lead. The 29-year-old came into Friday's contest with one hit and seven strikeouts across his past three games, but it now appears he's back on track. Santander has a .226/.340/.409 slash line with eight home runs, 24 RBI and 22 runs in 45 games this year.
May 23 2022Santander will sit Monday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander finds himself on the bench for just the third time all season. He owns a 126 wRC+ on the year, the product of a .233/.351/.411 slash line. Trey Mancini will get the start in right field.
May 19 2022Santander went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, a three-run homer and two additional runs scored during Thursday's 9-6 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander doubled in each of his first two plate appearances and walked in his third at-bat before teeing off on a walkoff, three-run homer in the ninth. The slugger finishes the four-game series against the Yankees with five hits, three homers and five RBI, by far his best stretch of the season.
May 16 2022Santander went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Monday's loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander accounted for all the offense in this one for Orioles, launching a solo shot off Luis Severino in the fourth inning and another one off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth. He now has six homers on the season, three of which have come in his last four games. Santander has struggled to a .233 average this season, his lowest since 2018, so he'll look to build off this performance moving forward.
May 14 2022Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Trey Mancini in the eighth inning to spoil Detroit's combined shutout bid, but it was all the offense Baltimore could muster. The blast snapped a 14-game power drought for Santander, and on the season he's batting .241 with four homers and 14 RBI through 33 contests, although he's compensated for that decline in production with a .376 OBP and a 14.3 percent walk rate that's more than double his prior career high.
May 10 2022Santander went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Santander's first multi-hit game since May 1. He entered Tuesday hitting just .190 (4-for-21) in his last seven games. The outfielder's strong effort lifted his slash line to .250/.397/.375 with three home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored across 121 plate appearances. His walk rate is at 15.7 percent, though that's likely to come down -- he's never posted better than a 6.1 percent walk rate in a season in his career.
May 8 2022Santander isn't starting the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started in Sunday's matinee and went 0-for-5 with a strikeout. Tyler Nevin will take over in right field and bat sixth during the second game of the twin bill.
May 1 2022Santander went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a run and a caught stealing during Sunday's 9-5 win over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander brought home a run via a sacrifice fly during the fifth inning, and he followed with a two-RBI single before coming around to score in the sixth. It's the fifth multi-hit game of the campaign for the 27-year-old and his first since April 20. He has a .243/.407/.400 slash line with three home runs, 11 RBI, nine runs and a 16:19 BB:K through 22 games.
Apr 26 2022Santander went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk in a 12-8 loss Tuesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander got the Orioles on the board with his three-run sixth-inning blast off Luis Severino. It was his first home run since Opening Day and his fourth extra-base hit of the season. While he hasn't provided much pop, the right fielder has 14 walks in 17 games and has a .431 OBP on the season. He's consistently hitting at the top of the Baltimore lineup and batted second Tuesday.
Apr 20 2022Santander went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander scored the Orioles' lone run in the first inning after reaching on a single. He's posted multiple hits in three of 11 games this season, and he's also showed a solid eye at the plate with a 10:8 BB:K. Through 45 plate appearances, the outfielder has a .273/.467/.394 slash line with a home run, one RBI, one run scored and a double while hitting regularly in the heart of the order. He's seen an everyday role in either left field, right field or as the designated hitter.
Apr 11 2022Santander went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks in Monday's 2-0 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander returned to the field after soreness forced him into the designated hitter spot Sunday. The outfielder didn't show any negative effects in a solid day at the plate Monday, though he wasn't directly involved in any run production in the low-scoring game. He's 5-for-10 with four walks, a home run, one RBI and a run scored in four games this season. He occupies the No. 3 spot in the Orioles' order against right-handed pitchers.
Apr 10 2022Santander is serving as the designated hitter and batting third in Sunday's lineup against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was hit in the quad by a pitch Saturday and was experiencing some soreness, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. The issue isn't enough to sideline him, though he will shift from his typical role in left field to serve as the designated hitter Sunday.
Apr 8 2022Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's sixth-inning blast accounted for Baltimore's only run of the day. The 27-year-old slugger had a chance to do major damage in the first inning with bases loaded but he struck out on three pitches. He knocked 18 homers with a .720 OPS in 110 games last season.
Nov 30 2021Santander (knee) and the Orioles agreed to a one-year, $3.15 million contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander returned to being a below-average hitter in 2021, something that's been true in every season except the shortened 2020 campaign. His .241/.286/.433 slash line was good for just a 92 wRC+. The Orioles clearly felt he still has the potential to become something more, so they'll hope to see something closer to the .261/.315/.575 line he managed in 37 games in 2020.
Sep 28 2021Santander was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right knee Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander suffered the injury Sunday against the Rangers. With less than a week left to play, the transaction ends the outfielder's season. It was largely a disappointing one for Santander, who posted a mediocre .719 OPS after seemingly breaking out with an .890 mark in last year's shortened season. Tyler Nevin was recalled to take his place on the roster, while Ryan McKenna could be set for an increased role in the final few games of the campaign.
Sep 26 2021Santander exited late in Sunday's game against the Rangers due to leg discomfort, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander battled a hamstring issue earlier in the week but returned to start both weekend games. There hasn't been any indication that the problem this time around is a major one, but the Orioles have little reason to risk aggravating anything at this stage in the season.
Sep 25 2021Santander (hamstring) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Rangers, batting cleanup and playing right field, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander missed the three previous games after tweaking his hamstring Tuesday. He'll be involved from the start Saturday and will try to pull out of a developing slump which has seen him post a .448 OPS over his last seven games.
Sep 24 2021Santander (hamstring) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Texas, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will be excluded from the starting nine for a third consecutive game after he tweaked his hamstring Tuesday. Ryan McKenna will take his place in right field and bat sixth.
Sep 23 2021Santander (hamstring) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander tweaked his hamstring in Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia and will be out of the lineup for a second straight game. He didn't appear off the bench Wednesday, and it's not clear whether he'll be available in a depth capacity Thursday. Ryan McKenna will start in right field and bat fifth.
Sep 22 2021Santander isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to a hamstring injury. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies, and manager Brandon Hyde revealed Wednesday that the outfielder tweaked his hamstring in the contest, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but Austin Hays will shift to right field while Ryan McKenna starts in left.
Sep 17 2021Santander isn't starting Friday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll get a rest after going 2-for-11 during the series against the Yankees. Austin Hays will shift to right field as Ryan McKenna draws the start in left field Friday.
Sep 12 2021Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Sunday's 22-7 loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While it wasn't a pretty weekend for Baltimore as a whole, Santander went 6-for-13 (.462) with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored in the four-game series against Toronto. The outfielder is on a bit of a surge, which has lifted his season slash line to .249/.293/.449 through 400 plate appearances. He's added 17 homers, 47 RBI, 50 runs scored, a stolen base and 23 doubles in 101 contests overall.
Sep 11 2021Santander went 4-for-7 with a home run, a double, two RBI and three runs scored across both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was more productive in the matinee, hitting a two-run home run and scoring two additional runs. He's gone 8-for-22 (.364) while hitting safely in five of his last six games. Santander's productive Saturday lifted his slash line to .248/.291/.441 with 16 homers, 46 RBI, 48 runs scored and a stolen base through 396 plate appearances. He's seen regular time in right field lately, leaving DJ Stewart and Ryan McKenna to battle for spare at-bats as reserve outfielders.
Sep 10 2021Santander isn't starting Friday's game against Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander drew starts in each of the last five games but hit just .143 with three runs, two RBI and five strikeouts. Austin Hays will shift to right field while Ryan McKenna starts in left.
Sep 4 2021Santander is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The switch-hitting Santander has mostly struggled from the right side of the plate this season, slashing .261/.299/.395 with a 32.3 percent strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. He's still playing regularly against lefties regardless -- he was in the lineup against the last four southpaws the O's faced prior to Saturday -- but Santander will take a turn on the bench as Baltimore goes with Austin Hays in right field and Trey Mancini at DH against Jordan Montgomery.
Aug 29 2021Santander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will head to the bench for the first time since Aug. 20, ending a stretch of seven consecutive starts during which he went 11-for-29 (.379 average) with four home runs, six RBI and eight runs. DJ Stewart will replace Santander in right field.
Aug 25 2021Santander went 3-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored against the Angels on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander cracked his 14th home run of the season in the first inning off of Shohei Ohtani, a solo blast that staked the Orioles to a 2-0 lead. He later added a double and a single, giving him 10 hits over his past four games. After an underwhelming first four months of the season, Santander has come alive in August with a .360/.385/.747 slash line to go with eight home runs and 13 RBI in 20 games.
Aug 24 2021Santander went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored during Tuesday's loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander took Andrew Wantz deep with a 442-foot blast in the sixth inning. It was his first four-hit night of the year and his third homer in as many games, bringing his season total to 13. Overall, he's batting .250/.295/.447.
Aug 21 2021Santander went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in a loss to Atlanta on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old drilled a solo shot off Matt Harvey in the fourth inning and repeated the feat against Will Smith in the ninth. The two-homer game was Santander's second in August -- in fact, he has hit half of his 12 long balls this month. He had been struggling entering the contest, however, going just 2-for-26 with 11 strikeouts over his previous eight games.
Aug 20 2021Manager Brandon Hyde said that Santander is not starting Friday against Atlanta because he is still experiencing soreness in his ankle, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander returned to the lineup Thursday after not starting Wednesday because of the ankle issue. The outfielder is back on the bench Friday as he continues to manage the soreness, but Hyde said there is hope that he'll be back in the starting nine Saturday.
Aug 19 2021Santander (ankle) is starting Thursday's game against the Rays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was held out of Wednesday's lineup due to minor ankle soreness, but he still appeared off the bench. The 26-year-old has gone 0-for-9 with two strikeouts across the last three games, and he'll start in right field and bat sixth Thursday.
Aug 18 2021Santander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Santander is dealing with a sore ankle that the team is viewing as a minor, day-to-day concern, according to Joe Trezza of MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder should be considered day-to-day until further notice. Jorge Mateo moved to the outfield Wednesday and figures to get more playing time there if Santander is forced to miss more games.
Aug 13 2021Santander went 0-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After reaching on a fielder's choice in the first inning, the 26-year-old made a dart to second base. Baltimore likely would have run him down, but Santander's foray into baserunning provided enough distraction to let Cedric Mullins steal home. Through parts of five major-league seasons, Santander has just three stolen bases in seven attempts, so he should not be considered a speed threat by any means. He's now slashing .250/.298/.433 through 293 plate appearances this year.
Aug 12 2021Santander went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He ended Detroit's combined shutout bid in the eighth inning off Erasmo Ramirez. Santander is red hot, hitting safety in eight straight games and launching four homers in his last three while slashing .469/.485/.906 over that eight-game stretch.
Aug 10 2021Santander went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder took Detroit starter Casey Mize deep in the second and fourth innings. Santander has a seven-game hitting streak to begin August, going 12-for-28 (.429) with three homers, five RBI and five runs scored in that span. His recent surge has lifted his season slash line up to .245/.292/.421 with nine long balls, 31 RBI, 30 runs scored and 19 doubles through 285 plate appearances. He appears to have a firm grip on a starting role in right field.
Aug 8 2021Santander went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has now recorded hits in each of his last six games, and he came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in Sunday's series finale. The outfielder returned from the COVID-19 injured list July 30 and has hit .313 with a homer, two doubles, three runs and three RBI in eight games since then.
Aug 4 2021Santander isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is riding a three-game hit streak in which he's gone 5-for-10 with a double, a run, an RBI and a walk. DJ Stewart will take his place in right field and bat sixth.
Jul 30 2021Santander (undisclosed) is starting Friday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander cleared the league's health and safety protocols Wednesday, but he required several additional days before returning to game action. However, he'll start in right field and bat fifth after he was officially activated Friday.
Jul 28 2021Santander (undisclosed) has cleared the league's health and safety protocols but won't rejoin the Orioles on Wednesday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Santander is now able to rejoin the Orioles after a week on the COVID-19-related injured list, manager Brandon Hyde will wait to activate the outfielder since he wasn't able to do much activity during the last week. The 26-year-old will run the bases and do some other baseball activities Wednesday, and he could be on track to return to game action soon.
Jul 21 2021The Orioles placed Santander on the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run in Tuesday's loss to the Rays, but he'll be sidelined for an indefinite period of time following his placement on the COVID-19-related IL. The Orioles haven't specified whether Santander's shutdown was the result of a positive test, but regardless, he'll need to clear the league's health and safety protocols before being eligible to rejoin the big club. While Santander is on the shelf, DJ Stewart should see increased time in the corner outfield against right-handed pitching.
Jul 18 2021Santander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After recording a pair of clutch base hits in a spot start in Saturday's win, DJ Stewart will stick in the lineup for a second straight contest, resulting in Santander moving to the bench. Santander's .656 OPS on the season is 234 points lower than his mark from 2020, but despite his disappointing production, the 26-year-old still appears to be locked into a near-everyday role.
Jul 7 2021Santander is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander launched his sixth homer of the season with a 431-foot blast Tuesday and will receive the day off for Wednesday's contest. Austin Hays will shift to right field while Ryan McKenna starts in left.
Jul 6 2021Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander gave Baltimore a 7-1 lead with his 431-foot shot during the fifth inning, which was his sixth long ball of the season. The 26-year-old has an. .879 OPS with two homers, two doubles, seven RBI and five runs across his past eight contests.
Jul 4 2021Santander is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will take a seat Sunday after starting the past four games and going 4-for-15 with a homer, a double, four RBI and three runs. Austin Hays will move to right field while DJ Stewart starts in left.
Jun 30 2021Santander went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 13-3 rout of the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Ryne Stanek deep in the eighth inning as the O's pulled away. Santander hadn't homered since June 8, and he's having a disappointing campaign overall, slashing .239/.278/.391 with five home runs and 18 RBI through 51 games.
Jun 28 2021Santander is not in the lineup Monday against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started the past two games and will head to the bench Monday for a maintenance day. Austin Hays will shift to right field while Ryan McKenna starts in left.
Jun 25 2021Santander is out of the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started the past two games after missing the previous two contests with ankle soreness, and he'll receive another day off Friday. The 26-year-old could receive regular off days if the injury continues to linger. DJ Stewart and Austin Hays will start in the corner outfield spots versus Toronto.
Jun 23 2021Santander (ankle) is starting Wednesday's game against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had been out of the lineup for each of the last two games due to left ankle soreness, but he went 0-for-1 with a strikeout as a pinch hitter Tuesday. He'll play right field and bat fifth in Wednesday's series finale.
Jun 22 2021Santander (ankle) remains on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Astros, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will sit for the second straight game with an ankle injury, an issue that's especially concerning given that he missed a month with ankle issues earlier in the year. He hasn't looked entirely healthy over his last 11 games, as he hit just .125/.146/.175 over that stretch. DJ Stewart starts in right field in his absence, though Santander will be available off the bench, which suggests that a trip to the injured list may not be on the cards.
Jun 21 2021Santander is out of Monday's lineup against the Astros while dealing with left ankle soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander sat out a game last week while dealing with the ankle issue and continues to manage the issue after serving as the designated hitter twice over the weekend. There's been no indication the 26-year-old will require a stint on the injured list, but he could be moved to the shelf if the injury doesn't improve throughout the week.
Jun 17 2021Santander will start Thursday's game against Cleveland, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander sat Wednesday due to ankle soreness, but the issue didn't seem to be a particularly serious one, which was confirmed by his quick return. He's still yet to really get going at the plate this season, but his .777 OPS in 24 games since returning from a trip to the injured list with a previous ankle problem is at least better than the .551 mark he posted in 16 games before suffering the injury.
Jun 16 2021Santander is out of the lineup Wednesday at Cleveland due to ankle soreness, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander started the past 23 games since returning from the injured list May 21, but manager Brandon Hyde wanted to get the outfielder "off his feet" Wednesday due to the ankle soreness. It doesn't appear to be a serious concern, and the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day. DJ Stewart will start in left field, pushing Austin Hays to right for Baltimore.
Jun 9 2021Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old came around to score after hitting a double during the sixth inning, and he launched his fourth homer of the season during the eighth. Santander is 23-for-67 (.343 average) with two homers, nine doubles, eight RBI and nine runs in 17 games since returning from the left ankle sprain that sidelined him for a month.
Jun 6 2021Santander went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs in Sunday's 18-5 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander had driven in just one run across his last 11 games, but his three RBI on Sunday led the Orioles during the blowout win. The 26-year-old is now hitting .269 with three home runs, 15 RBI and 12 runs this year.
May 23 2021Santander went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and two additional runs in Saturday's 12-9 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making his second start since returning from a month-long absence due to an ankle injury, Santander made his presence felt in the heart of the Baltimore lineup. He'll hit out of the cleanup spot in Sunday's series finale while manning right field, and Santander looks poised to hold down a prominent slot in the batting order now that he's healthy again.
May 21 2021Santander (ankle) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old has been sidelined by a sprained left ankle since April 20, and he'll rejoin the Orioles on Friday after spending a month on the injured list. Santander will attempt to rebound after a slow start to the season, as he has a .196/.230/.321 slash line through 62 plate appearances.
May 20 2021Santander (ankle) will return from the injured list Friday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will wind up missing exactly a month with his left ankle sprain. He struggled to a .551 OPS in 16 games before suffering the injury but looked good in his three rehab games for Double-A Bowie, going 4-for-12 with two walks and a homer.
May 17 2021Santander (ankle) has completed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Bowie and is expected to be activated during the Orioles' weekend series against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander struggled to a .196/.230/.321 slash line prior to spraining his left ankle, though that came in a small sample of just 16 games. He'll need a few days to clear COVID-19 protocols but isn't expected to miss much more time.
May 14 2021Santander (ankle) is expected to join the Orioles late next week upon the completion of his minor-league rehab assignment, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old joined Double-A Bowie on Friday to begin his rehab assignment, and he'll play a few games there before going through COVID-19 protocols in order to rejoin the Orioles. Assuming he avoids any setbacks or COVID complications, Santander should be activated during the latter stages of the three-game set versus the Rays or the weekend series against the Nationals.
May 13 2021Santander (ankle) will report to Double-A Bowie on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since Santander's left ankle sprain has kept him on the shelf since April 20, he'll need to complete a handful of games in the minors before Baltimore is comfortable activating him. Look for Santander to get work in both the corner outfield and at designated hitter, with the Orioles likely to reinstate him once he's able to play a full nine innings defensively. Once Santander is reinstated, he'll likely take back an everyday role from DJ Stewart, who has stumbled to a .184/.319/.289 slash line on the season.
May 12 2021Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that Santander (ankle) has resumed running the bases at Baltimore's extended spring training facility in Florida, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander doesn't appear to have experienced any speed bumps since resuming on-field work a few days ago, so he should continue to gradually build up for full baseball activities over the next week or two before the Orioles assign him to an affiliate for a rehab assignment. If Santander avoids any further setbacks with his sprained left ankle, he could make his return from the 10-day injured list before the end of the month.
May 7 2021Santander (ankle) will start baseball activity very shortly and will likely return in one or two weeks, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder landed on the injured list on April 21 after spraining his left ankle. Santander was in a 2-for-18 slump at the time of the injury, but he started the season strong and has been a consistent presence in the Orioles' lineup the past two seasons.
May 2 2021Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Sunday that Santander (ankle) is on schedule with his rehab program and could soon resume baseball activities, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is beginning to see the swelling in his sprained left ankle subside, so he'll likely be ready to begin some light on-field work during the upcoming week before gradually ramping up to full-speed activities. Hyde previously mentioned late May as the target date for Santander's return, and that timeline doesn't appear to have changed.
Apr 28 2021Manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that Santander (ankle) is improving, but the Orioles don't expect the 26-year-old to return from the 10-day injured list for another three weeks, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: When Santander was placed on the 10-day IL on April 21 with a left ankle sprain, he was handed a loose 2-to-4-week timeline for a return. Since Santander has yet to resume baseball activities over the past week, Hyde believes the switch-hitter's recovery from the ankle sprain will end up reaching the longer side of that timetable. Santander's absence should continue to open up regular at-bats for all of Austin Hays, DJ Stewart and Ryan Mountcastle at designated hitter and the two corner-outfield spots.
Apr 21 2021Santander (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's move to the injured list was expected after manager Brandon Hyde said that the right fielder will miss 2-to-4 weeks due to a sprained left ankle. Ryan McKenna was recalled in a corresponding move and will start in right field during Wednesday's game against the Marlins, while Austin Hays and DJ Stewart could see an increase in playing time while Santander is sidelined.
Apr 20 2021Santander (ankle) had X-rays come back negative and will undergo an MRI after exiting Tuesday's game at Miami, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander appears to have avoided a fracture, and the MRI should help determine the specifics of the injury, which was initially diagnosed as a right ankle sprain. The 26-year-old seems likely to sit out Wednesday's series finale, which would give him two straight days to recover with Thursday's scheduled off day.
Apr 11 2021Santander went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-4 loss against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's solo shot was the latter of back-to-back home runs off Garrett Richards in the first inning. The outfielder has two home runs in his last three games. Despite starting the season with a .226 batting average and a 28.1% strikeout rate, Santander has at least one RBI in all but two games.
Apr 8 2021Santander went 1-for-5 with a home run, a walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles quickly gained the lead in the fourth thanks to home runs by Santander and Cedric Mullins. Mullins led off the inning with a solo shot to right, and Santander followed him two batters later with a solo blast of his own to put the O's up 2-1. The 26-year-old didn't do much else at the plate in this one, but he did fire a strike to home plate to get Gio Urshela out and end the game after 11 innings.
Apr 5 2021Santander isn't starting Monday's game against the Yankees, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander put together a three-game hit streak while starting each of the first three games of the 2021 campaign, but he'll take a breather Monday. Ryan McKenna will make his major-league debut in right field, batting ninth.
Apr 4 2021Santander went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander helped open the scoring in the first inning by plating Cedric Mullins with an RBI single before coming around to score on a Maikel Franco two-run double. In the ninth, Santander had another RBI single to score Mullins. The 26-year-old Santander finished the three-game series against the Red Sox strong. He went 5-for-13 (.385) with four RBI and a run scored in that span. The outfielder is set for a consistent role in right field in 2021.
Mar 31 2021Orioles manager Brandon Hyde confirmed that Santander (oblique) has been cleared to play in Thursday's season opener in Boston, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was sidelined for the Orioles' final few spring games due to a minor oblique injury, but he apparently showed enough progress in his recent workouts for Baltimore to feel comfortable with including him on the Opening Day roster. Baltimore may use Santander as a designated hitter more often than normal in the first week of the season in an attempt to preserve his health, but he should be a regular in the heart of the lineup.
Mar 29 2021Santander (oblique) isn't included in the Baltimore lineup for Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles had some hope that Santander might have been able to return from his minor oblique injury to play in the spring finale, but the team won't take any chances with the 26-year-old. His absence from the lineup isn't necessarily indicative of a setback, as the expectation remains that Santander will be available for Opening Day. The switch-hitter finished the spring with a .866 OPS over 29 at-bats.
Mar 28 2021Santander (oblique) went through a full workout Sunday and could be in the lineup for Monday's exhibition game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old has been held out of the lineup for most of the past week with a minor oblique issue, but he may return to the field Monday. Santander's availability for Opening Day doesn't appear in doubt, especially if he's able to start Monday's contest.
Mar 27 2021Santander has been dealing with a minor oblique issue, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander is out of the Orioles' lineup for a fourth consecutive game Saturday, but his injury isn't believed to be serious. However, it's not yet clear whether the issue could force him to miss the start of the regular season. If Santander is unavailable for Opening Day, Austin Hays could shift to right field while Ryan Mountcastle starts in left field.
Feb 5 2021Santander lost his arbitration case against the Orioles on Friday and will receive $2.1 million in 2021, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old filed at $2.475 million, but the arbiter didn't rule in his favor. Santander had a .261/.315/.575 slash line with 11 homers, 13 doubles and 32 RBI in 37 games during 2020, and he's poised for an everyday role in the outfield for the Orioles again this season, though he could also be a trade piece.
Sep 12 2020Santander (oblique) will miss the remainder of the season, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season after sustaining an oblique injury earlier in the month. Manager Brandon Hyde confirmed the timetable Saturday, but he said that he's expected to be ready for spring training in 2021.
Sep 5 2020Santander was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander felt something in his oblique during Friday's matinee, and he could miss the rest of the season after he was diagnosed with a strain. DJ Stewart should see the bulk of the playing time in right field in his absence, and Mason Williams' contract was selected in a corresponding move.
Sep 4 2020Santander won't start Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader while dealing with an oblique issue, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander reportedly felt something in his oblique during Friday's matinee, and he'll sit for Game 2. It's unclear whether he'll be able to return Saturday. DJ Stewart will take over in right field.
Sep 1 2020Santander went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander began his productive night at the dish with an RBI single in bottom of the second inning. He delivered the big blow four frames later, cranking a two-run homer for his 11th long ball of the season. Overall, Santander is now hitting .278/.329/.611 with 32 RBI and 24 runs scored across 155 plate appearances.
Aug 31 2020Santander went 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in the 4-3 win over Toronto on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's double off Wilmer Font drove in Hanser Alberto to tie the game 2-2 in the sixth inning. The outfielder continues to provide production in the heart of Baltimore's order, slashing .271/.320/.593 with 24 extra-base hits on the campaign.
Aug 22 2020Santander went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run Saturday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander took Josh Taylor deep in the eighth inning to knot the game at three. It was his 10th home of the season, and his fifth in his past seven games. The effort also extended Santander's hitting streak to 17 games, six of which have been multi-hit efforts. Santander has been one of the biggest surprises to this point in the season, racking up a .291/.339/.673 line with 27 RBI and 21 runs scored across 118 plate appearances.
Aug 18 2020Santander went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander went deep in the first inning for a two-run blast, then added a solo shot in the third. Both homers were against Blue Jays starter Nate Pearson. Santander extended his hitting streak to 12 games -- he's batted .364 (20-for-55) with seven homers, 18 RBI and 15 runs scored in that span. Few players are hitting as well as the 25-year-old outfielder.
Aug 15 2020Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 15-3 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He launched a first-inning offering from Stephen Strasburg onto the concourse in right field at Camden Yards to give the O's a brief 1-0 lead before the wheels came off for the pitching staff. Santander has gone yard three times in the last five games, and on the season he's slashing .256/.284/.564 with five homers and 20 RBI through 19 contests.
Aug 12 2020Santander went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double Wednesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander took Zach Eflin yard in the third inning, starting the Orioles' offense in a comeback victory. It was his fourth home run of the season, and second in his past four contests. Santander has been swinging the bat well of late, as he now owns a seven-game hitting streak. Overall, Santander is hitting .279/.310/.574 across 71 plate appearances, also racking up 13 runs scored and 16 RBI.
Aug 8 2020Santander went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Down 3-0 heading into the eighth inning, the O's launched three long balls off the Nats' closer duo of Sean Doolittle and Daniel Hudson -- solo shots by Pedro Severino and Pat Valaika, and then Santander's game-winning blast. The 25-year-old outfielder is enjoying a productive start to 2020, hitting .250 (14-for-56) through 14 games with three homers and 12 RBI.
Jul 31 2020Santander went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His two-run shot off Blake Snell in the fourth inning got the O's on the board, and he put the team up for good with an RBI single the following frame. Santander has gone 6-for-22 (.273) to begin the season with two homers and seven RBI through six games.
Jul 26 2020Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, two runs and one walk in Sunday's win against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has gotten off to a nice start to begin the season, and he hit his first home run of 2020 as part of a three-run rally by the Orioles in the third inning that helped propel them to a win in the series finale against Boston. The 25-year-old has gone 3-for-11 with four RBI and three runs over the first three games this year.
Jul 24 2020Santander (not injury related) is starting in right field and batting second for Friday's season opener against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old missed the first half of summer camp for unspecified reasons, but the late arrival won't end up impacting his availability for the start of the season. Santander had a .261/.287/.476 slash line with 20 home runs last season and will look to take another step forward in 2020.
Jul 20 2020Santander (not injury related) is in the lineup for Monday's exhibition game against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was held out of the Orioles' first exhibition game Sunday, but he'll enter the starting nine Monday after Stevie Wilkerson (finger) was hurt early in Sunday's contest. Santander missed the first half of camp after testing positive, but there don't appear to be any issues with his health ahead of Friday's season opener in Boston. It's still unclear whether he'll be game ready in time for Opening Day, but Monday's start in the team's exhibition game is an encouraging sign.
Jul 17 2020Manager Brandon Hyde indicated Friday that Santander (undisclosed) has a good chance of being ready for Opening Day, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old missed the first half of summer training with unspecified issues, but he arrived earlier this week and had a strong showing at live batting practice. Santander still has a week to prepare for Opening Day next Friday at Boston, and he appears on track to be in Baltimore's first lineup of the season.
Jul 14 2020Santander (undisclosed) arrived at the Orioles' camp Tuesday and participated in workouts, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander was absent from the first several weeks of camp for an undisclosed reason, but he was able to participate in workouts Tuesday, signaling that he's cleared intake testing. With just 10 days remaining until Opening Day, manager Brandon Hyde said that the team will evaluate Santander on a daily basis to determine his preparedness for the start of the season. When he's ready to play, the team hopes to use him in the middle of the order, but they want to make sure that he's ready to take on a full workload before he takes the field during the regular season.
Mar 10 2020Santander will play outfield for the first time this spring Tuesday against the Braves, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's 2019 campaign ended early due to a labrum injury which has so far limited him to designated hitter duty this spring. He'll be taking the field with two weeks left of spring training, so it seems as though he'll still have time to ramp up to game speed by Opening Day.
Feb 14 2020Santander is clear of the labrum issues that brought his 2019 season to an early end and won't be limited to begin spring training, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander missed the final weekend of the regular season with what at the time were described as "minor injuries," but it appears the problem was actually labrum inflammation, which did not require surgery. The 25-year-old finished the season with a .261/.297/.476 slash line, 20 home runs and 59 RBI in 93 games, and he should be able to lock down a starting role in Baltimore's outfield during spring training.
Sep 28 2019Santander (undisclosed minor injuries) is unlikely to play again this season, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was apparently playing through some minor injuries earlier this month and the O's are going to let him take it easy over the final two games. The 24-year-old switch hitter slashed .261/.297/.476 with 20 home runs, one steal and an 86:19 K:BB in 405 plate appearances this year. He figures to enter 2020 with an everyday job.
Sep 27 2019Santander's absence from the lineup for the last three games is due to undisclosed minor injuries, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander's .093/.140/.222 slash line over his last 12 games would seem to be reason enough to keep him out of the lineup, though his performance has possibly been held back by injury. He could return to the lineup Saturday against Boston.
Sep 25 2019Santander is not starting Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will sit for a second straight game as DJ Stewart picks up another start in right field in his place. The outfielder is hitting just .211 over his past 30 games, though he has nine home runs and 24 RBI over that stretch.
Sep 24 2019Santander is not starting Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has struggled at the plate this month, slashing .155/.184/.321 with a 3:26 BB:K across 19 games. As such, he'll head to the bench for the second time in three games as DJ Stewart picks up a start in the outfield in his place.
Sep 22 2019Santander is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander will hit the bench for the third time in the team's last nine games. The Orioles will instead play Dwight Smith, Austin Hays, and DJ Stewart across the outfield.
Sep 18 2019Santander went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, double and two runs scored Wednesday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander took Clay Buchholz deep in the fourth inning to record his 19th homer of the season. Three frames earlier, he began the contest with a double before ultimately coming around to score. It was welcomed production for Santander as he had recorded only two hits in his last 28 at-bats -- a span of seven starts -- prior to Wednesday's contest. Still, the 24-year-old has managed a fairly impressive .273/.309/.493 line across 383 plate appearances for the season.
Sep 17 2019Santander is not starting Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has hit just .148/.179/.259 over his last 13 games, though he still owns a solid .791 OPS on the season. Dwight Smith, Mason Williams and DJ Stewart will be the Orioles' outfielders in his absence.
Sep 13 2019Santander is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Detroit, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Santander has gone hitless in four straight games. Dwight Smith will get the start in left field.

May 10 2018Santander is not in the lineup Thursday against the Royals, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Santander will stick on the bench for a second straight game while Mark Trumbo slides to right field and Pedro Alvarez takes over as the DH. The 23-year-old is hitting just .203/.253/.312 through 30 games this season, so there's a chance he's sent back to the minors over the weekend to continue his development, as that will be when he's first eligible to return to the farm as a former Rule 5 pick.

Apr 27 2018Santander went 3-for-4 in Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay.Santander was 1-for-16 in his last five games coming into Thursday, but the 23-year-old now has hits in each of the past two games, and he is hopefully breaking out of the slump that has plagued him since April 8. Colby Rasmus (hip) is progressing slowly through his recovery process, so Santander should continue seeing consistent playing time, at least until the veteran returns.
Apr 27 2018Santander is not in the lineup Friday against the Tigers, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Santander had a three-hit performance Thursday but it wasn't enough to keep him in the lineup. The 23-year-old is hitting just .194/.229/.299 on the season. Craig Gentry starts in right field in his place Friday.
Apr 22 2018Santander was 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Sunday's loss to Cleveland.Santander has only one hit in his last 17 at-bats, but he does own a .216 BABIP, which suggests that his average should rise once he begins to get better luck. Nonetheless, he'll want to get back on track before Colby Rasmus (hip) returns from the DL.

In his place, Craig Gentry will draw the assignment and bat eighth in the order.
Apr 8 2018Santander will start in right field and bat seventh Sunday against the Yankees, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports. It's the sixth straight start for the rookie, who seemingly displaced Colby Rasmus in an everyday role in the corner outfield before a hip injury sent Rasmus to the disabled list. While the regular at-bats have improved Santander's fantasy outlook, he has yet to do much with the extra opportunities. The 23-year-old has gotten off to a 3-for-23 start to the season and is getting on base at a lowly .231 clip.
Apr 8 2018Santander went 3-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. This marked Santander's first multi-hit game of the season. The 23-year-old also slugged his first home run of the year, as he mashed a two-run homer against Domingo German in the seventh inning. While Santander has yet to show the ability to consistently deliver at the plate, he'll continue seeing regular at-bats while serving as Baltimore's primary right fielder.
Mar 31 2018Santander is starting at DH and hitting eighth Saturday against the Twins.Santander will pick up his first start of the season after conceding Opening Day duties to Pedro Alvarez. A Rule 5 pick in 2016, Santander will have to spend 44 days on the Orioles' active roster in order for the team to retain his right long term, giving him plenty of opportunities to prove he deserves to stick with the big club.
Mar 27 2018Santander is projected to start at DH and bat seventh in the Opening Day lineup, MLB.com reports.Santander hit .292 with four home runs in spring training. A Rule 5 pick in December of 2016, Santander missed the vast majority of last season with an elbow ligament injury and thus the Orioles will have to keep him on the major-league roster for 44 days to begin the 2018 season in order to retain his rights long term. However, Santander's spring performance showed he may be in the lineup to stay. He'll have to battle Colby Rasmus for playing time in right field when Mark Trumbo returns from a quad strain in a few weeks.
Mar 6 2018Santander went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's Grapefruit League loss to the Twins. The long ball was Santander's second of spring training. A Rule 5 pick in December of 2016, Santander missed the vast majority of last season with an elbow ligament injury and thus the Orioles will have to keep him on the major-league roster for 44 days to begin the 2018 season in order to retain his rights long term. At the very least, that window should buy AL-only owners some time to search for a more permanent fifth-outfielder option.
Sep 27 2017Santander went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Pirates. The Rule 5 pick was making his second straight start, as the O's look ahead to 2018 over the final days of this season. Santander will likely spend all of next year in the minors, given that he has only 15 games of experience at Double-A and none at Triple-A on his resume.
Sep 17 2017Santander (forearm) has played in just eight games while logging only 16 at-bats since being activated from the DL on Aug. 16.Santander's 2017 campaign was lost back in spring training when he suffered a strain that eventually led to his removal from the 40-man roster, and a place on the 60-day DL. The Orioles selected the outfielder in last year's Rule 5 Draft, and management has done everything to ensure that Santander remains on the active roster all year, thus retaining his contract in 2018. That said, actually playing the outfielder is of little concern to skipper Buck Showalter, and there's no reason for fantasy owners to have eyes on Santander until next spring rolls around.
Aug 16 2017Santander (forearm) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday. As expected, Santander, who hasn't played a game this season due to a right forearm strain he sustained in spring training, will be with the Orioles for Friday's series opener against the Angels. While the 22-year-old has impressed on his rehab assignment, slashing .380/.458/.780 with five homers and five doubles in 15 games with Double-A Bowie, he likely isn't ready to contribute at the major-league level given his lack of experience above High-A. Still, he'll stick around as outfield depth for the big club due to his status as a Rule 5 pick. Joey Rickard was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Aug 13 2017The Orioles are expected to activate Santander (forearm) from the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports. The 22-year-old has yet to appear in a game with the Orioles this season due to a right forearm strain, which he first experienced during spring training. It wasn't until Santander's ongoing rehab assignment that he received any at-bats above the High-A level, but he's certainly stood out through 14 games with Double-A Bowie, going 17-for-46 (.370 average) with four home runs and five doubles. Despite that success, Santander likely isn't ready to contribute yet at the MLB level, even though his status as a Rule 5 pick ensures that he'll stick around as outfield depth for the Orioles once he's activated.
Jul 26 2017Santander (forearm) is expected to use the full 20-day limit on his rehab assignment, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The Rule 5 outfielder has missed most of the year, but the O's will finally have the chance to get a good look at Santander beginning this week. "The whole idea with him was that we knew when we acquired him that there might be some issues, but the talent level was always there," manager Buck Showalter said. "If we could get him back to full health, we might have something." Santander's showcase will begin as the designated hitter Thursday for Double-A Bowie.
Jul 20 2017Santander (forearm) will embark on a rehab assignment beginning next Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Santander has been cleared to play outfield for the first time since mid-March. The 22-year-old will head to Double-A Bowie upon the conclusion of his rehab assignment, but there has yet to be a definitive timetable moving forward. A cautious estimate would land Santander's return date for early September.
Jul 9 2017Santander (forearm) has been throwing from 90 feet and hitting soft toss, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Santander continues his gradual rehab back from a strained forearm. Though his recovery has been slow, the Orioles hope the young outfielder will be able to return to action in September at the latest.
Jun 28 2017Santander (forearm) has resumed throwing, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports. After hitting .290/.368/.494 last season for High-A Lynchburg in the Indians' system, the Rule 5 draft pick has spent the entire season on the disabled list due to a strained right forearm he suffered in spring training. There is still no timetable for the outfielder's return.
Jun 14 2017Santander (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday. The Rule 5 pickup is still recovering from a right forearm strain suffered in spring training and doesn't appear close to a return, so he was moved to the 60-day DL to create roster flexibility. The Orioles purchased the contract of first baseman David Washington from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.
Jun 2 2017Manager Buck Showalter said Santander (elbow) could be moved to the 60-day DL if the Orioles need a 40-man roster spot, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline.com reports. This isn't the first time Showalter has mentioned changing the injury designation of his Rule 5 pick. Santander has been sidelined all season with a ligament damage in his right elbow, and a move to the 60-day DL seems imminent.
May 10 2017Santander (elbow) received a PRP injection Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline.com reports. As planned, Santander underwent treatment Wednesday and won't participate in any throwing activities for six weeks. It will be easier to gauge when Santander may return once he resumes throwing, but an extended absence is in order.
