Jul 28 2024 | The Rangers released Pruitt (knee) on Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt had been on the shelf since April 24 with a right meniscus injury and was cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment June 28. Between stops in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Round Rock, Pruitt posted a 7.71 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings. With Pruitt's 30-day rehab window coming to a close Sunday and with the Rangers not willing to reopen a spot for him on the roster after he struggled on his rehab assignment, the 34-year-old right-hander will be given the chance to search for an opportunity elsewhere. Pruitt will most likely have to settle for a minor-league deal with his next organization. |
Jul 9 2024 | The Rangers transferred Pruitt's (knee) rehab assignment from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt will likely stick around at Round Rock throughout the week before potentially returning from the 60-day injured list following the All-Star break. He made three rehab appearances in the ACL over the past two weeks, covering four innings and striking out four while giving up one run on five hits and no walks. |
Jun 28 2024 | Pruitt (knee) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has been on the injured list since late April due to a right meniscus injury, and he's now been given the go-ahead to begin playing in games. The Rangers haven't provided any details regarding the planned duration of Pruitt's rehab stint, but he'll likely need to make a few appearances with a minor-league affiliate before coming off the injured list. There's also no guarantee the 34-year-old reports to the Rangers upon being activated, as he allowed six earned runs in just 4.1 MLB innings before getting hurt. |
May 21 2024 | Pruitt (knee) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was placed on the 15-day IL on April 24 with an injury to his right meniscus but will need more time for recovery. He'll be unable to return until mid-June at the earliest, though it's unclear how far along he is in the recovery process. |
Apr 24 2024 | The Rangers placed Pruitt on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right meniscus injury, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has been touched four six earned runs across 4.1 innings in his first four appearances, and he'll now be sidelined for the two weeks due to problems with his knee. Grant Anderson was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. |
Apr 13 2024 | The Rangers selected Pruitt's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After failing to make the Rangers' bullpen out of spring training, Pruitt will get his shot with the big-league club after Brock Burke (hand) was placed on the injured list Saturday. Pruitt was solid last season with the A's, turning in a 2.98 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 48.1 innings, and he will likely serve in middle relief for the Rangers. Justin Foscue (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move to clear space on the 40-man roster. |
Jan 10 2024 | Pruitt signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt collected a 2.98 ERA and 30:12 K:BB over 48.1 innings with the Athletics in 2023 before his season ended with a forearm strain. It appears he will enter spring training healthy and the 34-year-old will be in the mix for a long relief role in Texas. |
Oct 4 2023 | Oakland outrighted Pruitt (forearm) to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt posted a solid 2.98 ERA and 30:12 K:BB through 48.1 innings this season for the Athletics before finishing the year on the injured list following a late-August diagnosis of a right forearm strain. The 34-year-old can now elect to become a free agent and seems likely to do so. |
Sep 14 2023 | Pruitt (forearm) is scheduled to throw live batting practice against JJ Bleday (knee) on Friday, the team's official site reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt remains without an exact timetable for return after hitting the injured list back on Aug. 20, but Friday's planned activity level is naturally encouraging. The right-hander had generated a career-best 2.98 ERA alongside a 2-6 record and four holds over 38 appearances (six starts) when the injury bug bit. |
Aug 20 2023 | The Athletics placed Pruitt on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right forearm strain. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Oakland called up Dany Jimenez from Triple-A Las Vegas to provide the club with another right-handed arm out of the bullpen while Pruitt is on the shelf. Depending on the severity of the strain, Pruitt could be done for the season and may even need Tommy John surgery to address the injury. More information on the extent of Pruitt's injury should come within the next few days once he undergoes additional testing. The 33-year-old has compiled a 2.98 ERA and 1.16 WHIP while striking out 30 over 48.1 innings this season. |
Aug 10 2023 | Pruitt did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one walk over two scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Rangers. He struck out two. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt did not allow a hit over his two innings of work, though the Rangers made him work for it, forcing 34 pitches and drawing one walk off the right-hander. He also managed to record two strikeouts for the second time in his last four appearances, and he has not allowed a run over his last nine outings (spanning 10.1 innings), posting a 9:3 K:BB over that stretch. |
Aug 8 2023 | Pruitt will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has already made five starts for the A's this season, though none of his outings have lasted longer than three frames. The 33-year-old righty has pitched to a respectable 3.35 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 43 innings this season and will give way to Freddy Tarnok after an inning or two Wednesday. |
Jul 23 2023 | Pruitt (2-6) got the win against the Astros on Saturday, firing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander needed a scant four pitches to record a pair of outs and close out the sixth inning. Pruitt has endured a bit of a rollercoaster season, and he's exemplified the inconsistency by allowing six combined runs in two appearances while tossing scoreless efforts in seven other outings since June 29. He's also garnered just two wins and two holds across 28 appearances, but his 3.96 ERA and 1.21 WHIP are certainly respectable from a fantasy perspective. |
Jul 15 2023 | Pruitt will serve as Oakland's opening pitcher in Saturday's game agains the Twins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt will most likely cover anywhere from 1-to-3 innings prior to turning the game over to Hogan Harris, who had been in line to start Saturday before the Athletics made the late decision to deploy him behind an opener. Over his previous four assignments as an opener this season, Pruitt has allowed six earned runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out two over 6.2 innings. |
Jul 9 2023 | Pruitt (1-6) took the loss against the Red Sox on Saturday, allowing four earned runs on four hits over 1.2 innings. He didn't walk a batter or record a strikeout. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt drew a spot start with Paul Blackburn unable to go due to an illness, but the right-hander never found his footing. Pruitt allowed three runs in the opening frame via a Justin Turner single and Alex Verdugo two-run home run before also being charged with an additional run after getting the hook in the second. The 33-year-old still sports a solid 3.90 ERA and acceptable 1.24 WHIP across 24 appearances (four starts) despite Saturday's stumble, but he's managed to record only two holds on the campaign while forging his crooked won-loss record. |
Jul 8 2023 | Pruitt will start Saturday's game against the Red Sox on short notice after Paul Blackburn was scratched due to illness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has been used as an opener three times this season but hasn't thrown more than three innings in any appearance. He reached that mark just three days ago as the opener in Wednesday's game against the Tigers, so he's unlikely to be fresh enough to pitch particularly deep into Saturday's contest. |
Jul 6 2023 | Pruitt struck out a batter while working three perfect innings as Oakland's opening pitcher in Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Tigers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he faced the minimum nine batters while departing with a 4-0 lead that the Athletics never relinquished, Pruitt didn't qualify for the win because he didn't pitch at least five innings. Instead, the win fell to Ken Waldichuk, who worked 4.1 innings in a bulk-relief role. The three innings were a season-high total for Pruitt, but it's unclear if the Athletics are interested in having him build up his pitch count in preparation for a more traditional starting role. The strong outing should at least make Pruitt one of the team's preferred options the next time manager Mark Kotsay chooses to deploy an opener. |
Jul 5 2023 | Pruitt is scheduled to serve as Oakland's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt hasn't tossed more than three innings or 35 pitches in any of his 32 appearances between the majors and minors this season, so the Athletics likely won't ask him to work more than once through the order before he turns the game over to the bullpen. Lefty Ken Waldichuk is expected to work in bulk relief behind Pruitt. |
Jun 22 2023 | Pruitt (1-5) took the loss and was charged with a blown save Wednesday against the Guardians, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over one inning. He didn't issue a walk or record a strikeout. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was entrusted with protecting a one-run lead when he entered in the eighth, but after inducing an inning-opening groundout from Gabriel Arias, the right-hander allowed the next three hitters to reach safely, capped off by a Steven Kwan two-run double that was augmented by a Ramon Laureano throwing error. Pruitt has now allowed an earned run in three of his last five appearances, with each of those instances resulting in a loss. |
Jun 16 2023 | Pruitt (1-4) took the loss against the Rays on Thursday, allowing an earned run on three hits over 2.1 innings during which he didn't record any strikeouts. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was able to eat up some innings and fired 24 of his 34 pitches in for strikes. However, the 33-year-old made one mistake, hanging an eighth-inning curveball that Luke Raley drove 410 feet to center field for a home run that proved to be the difference in the game. The stumble notwithstanding, Pruitt has largely been a reliable multi-inning option for manager Mark Kotsay of late, pitching to a 2.57 ERA over the 14 frames covering his last 10 appearances despite a 1-3 record in that span. |
Jun 5 2023 | Pruitt (1-3) took the loss against the Marlins on Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt successfully got the third out in the seventh upon first entering the game to preserve a 5-5 tie, but he ended up on the hook for the loss when the two runners he put on to start the eighth crossed the plate following his exit. Pruitt had generated scoreless efforts in six of his previous seven outings coming into Sunday, so he remains a solid option for manager Mark Kotsay, albeit one that doesn't deliver much fantasy production due to a lack of hold and save opportunities. |
May 27 2023 | Pruitt will operate as the Athletics' opening pitcher Saturday versus Houston, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt will draw a second straight start after serving as the opener Wednesday against the Mariners, tossing a scoreless first inning while allowing two hits. Hogan Harris was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and he'll handle the bulk relief role following Pruitt. |
May 24 2023 | Pruitt will serve as the Athletics' opener Wednesday against the Mariners, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ken Waldichuk (calf) had been the listed starter for Oakland, but he is now instead expected to work in bulk relief. Pruitt carries a 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB in 10.2 innings this season out of the A's bullpen. |
May 16 2023 | Pruitt (1-1) earned the win in Tuesday's 9-8 victory over the Diamondbacks. He allowed one walk while striking out one over three scoreless innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt picked up his first win of the season in a nail-biting extra-innings victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, stretching out to three innings after having not gone deeper than 1.2 innings this season. He was incredibly effective in high-leverage situations, taking over in the 10th inning and allowing no baserunners outside of intentionally walking Corbin Carroll in the 11th. Since being called up from Triple-A in early May, Pruitt owns a 4.00 ERA with six strikeouts over 9.0 innings (7 appearances) but could be in line for more work after Tuesday's impressive outing. |
May 15 2023 | Pruitt (0-1) took the loss against the Rangers on Sunday, allowing two earned runs on two hits over one-third of an inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt allowed two of the three hitters he faced to reach safely, surrendering a leadoff double to Adolis Garcia and an RBI single to Jonah Heim. Pruitt was charged with an additional run when Heim subsequently came across on a Leody Taveras fielder's choice, saddling the right-hander with the loss and his second multi-earned-run outing in the last four trips to the mound. |
May 4 2023 | The Athletics selected Pruitt's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt earned a promotion with a 2.30 ERA and 16:5 K:BB across 15.2 frames with Vegas. The veteran right-hander appeared in 39 games for Oakland last season, posting a 4.23 ERA. He'll likely fill a multi-inning relief role. |
Jan 15 2023 | Pruitt signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt hit free agency after being outrighted off Oakland's 40-man roster in November, but he's back with the organization on a minor-league deal. The 33-year-old appeared in 39 big-league games last season and had a 4.23 ERA across 55.1 innings, and he will likely receive an invitation to major-league spring training. |
Nov 3 2022 | Pruitt was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt appeared in 39 games for Oakland in 2022 but won't retain his spot on the 40-man roster through the offseason. He had a 4.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB across 55.1 innings. |
Sep 14 2022 | Pruitt gave up two earned runs on two hits while striking out a batter in one inning of relief in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Rangers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Pruitt tossed five no-hit innings when he was needed for a spot start against the White Sox last weekend, the Athletics won't give the right-hander an extended audition in the rotation. After faltering in his relief outing Tuesday, Pruitt now sits on an unremarkable 4.53 ERA and 12.8 K-BB% over 47.2 innings on the season. |
Sep 9 2022 | Pruitt registered a no-decision during Friday's 5-3 loss to the White Sox, striking out two without allowing a hit, walk or run in five innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Making a spot start in place of James Kaprielian (finger) for his first turn of the season, Pruitt entirely shutdown Chicago's offense other than two errors. He fired 41 of 55 pitches for strikes with 10 of the swinging variety and was in line for the win until the Oakland bullpen surrendered five runs in the ninth inning. Pruitt possesses a 4.24 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 46.2 innings and may have earned another turn through the rotation with the excellent performance. |
Aug 27 2022 | Pruitt's contract was selected by the Athletics on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was designated for assignment Monday, but he's back again just five days later after Dany Jimenez hit the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder. Pruitt owns a 4.78 ERA in 37.2 innings this season, so he's unlikely to pitch in a high-leverage role. |
Aug 22 2022 | Pruitt was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt recorded his first save of the season Sunday against the Mariners but will lose his spot on the 40-man roster a day later. He's posted a 4.78 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 37.2 innings over 27 relief appearances in the majors this year, and it's not yet clear whether he'll remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers. |
Aug 21 2022 | Pruitt picked up the save in Sunday's 5-3 victory over Seattle. He allowed no runs on no hits and no walks over two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a strikeout. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the save Sunday, Pruitt is now the fifth Oakland reliever to record a save this season. Manager Mark Kotsay decided to go with Dany Jimenez in the eighth inning as the Mariners had the heart of the lineup due up. Despite recording the save Sunday, It is unlikely that Pruitt will see many more save opportunities as the A's turned to its top five options earlier in the game after starter JP Sears completed just five innings. |
Aug 11 2022 | Pruitt (0-1) took the loss in extra innings against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over one inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt needed only nine pitches to get through his one frame, but he allowed a go-ahead RBI double to Magneuris Sierra that plated inning-opening runner Steven Duggar with what turned out to be the winning run. The right-hander has had a rocky second half thus far, posting a 9.00 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in four innings across five appearances. |
Jul 3 2022 | Pruitt allowed a run on two hits and struck out six over 4.1 innings during Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt took over in the second inning after Frankie Montas (shoulder) exited the game early. This was Pruitt's longest outing of the season, and his third of three or more innings in 12 appearances overall. The right-hander has a 4.42 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB through 18.1 innings. It seems unlikely for the 32-year-old to be an option as a spot starter if Montas has to miss time -- Pruitt saw some starts in the minors in 2021 but hasn't regularly worked in that role since 2016. |
Jun 23 2022 | Pruitt fired a perfect eighth inning in a loss to the Mariners on Wednesday, recording a strikeout. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander got through his perfect frame on just 13 pitches, bouncing back from an ugly appearance Tuesday when he gave up four earned runs on four hits, including three home runs, in just one-third of an inning. Pruitt has given up four runs on two occasions overall in June, but he hasn't been scored upon in the 7.2 innings covering his other six appearances during the month. |
May 29 2022 | Pruitt, called from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, fired three scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt gave the Athletics some much-needed length on a day when starter Zach Logue was chased after 2.1 innings. The journeyman right-hander, who also has 10 starts on his career resume, is likely to remain in a multi-inning role while up with the big-league club. |
May 28 2022 | Pruitt's contract was selected by the Athletics on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt joined the Athletics on a minor-league deal in March, and he posted a 3.27 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 22 innings over 12 relief appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas to begin the year. The right-hander made just six major-league appearances between the Marlins and Astros last year, and he should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever in Oakland. |
Sep 2 2021 | Pruitt was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was relatively effective across three relief appearances during this stint with the major-league club, as he allowed a run on three hits and no walks while striking out four in 3.2 innings. His removal from the 40-man roster will make room for right-hander Paul Campbell, who was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Thursday. |
Aug 20 2021 | Pruitt's contract was selected by the Marlins prior to Friday's game against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was DFA'd by Miami on Aug. 5 but wound up heading to Triple-A Jacksonville after clearing waivers. He'll now head back to the big leagues with Cody Poteet (knee) moving to the 60-day IL in order to make room on the 40-man roster. Pruitt has logged just 3.2 major-league innings this year, allowing two runs on a pair of solo homers. |
Aug 5 2021 | Pruitt was designated for assignment Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty has appeared in one game for Miami since being acquired at the trade deadline, pitching a scoreless inning Friday against the the Yankees. It's unclear whether Pruitt's demotion is a long-term move, or if he's just temporarily off the 26-man and 40-man rosters to make room for Thursday's starter Braxton Garrett. |
Jul 28 2021 | Pruitt and Bryan De La Cruz were traded from the Astros to the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for Yimi Garcia, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was designated for assignment by the Astros earlier in the day, but he was instead shipped to Miami rather than being exposed to the waiver wire. The right-hander appeared in only two games for Houston this season and allowed two runs on three hits with a strikeout and zero walks over 2.2 innings. |
Jul 21 2021 | Pruitt (0-1) allowed one earned run on one hit across two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss to Cleveland on Wednesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt made his second appearance of the season Wednesday, after missing the first half with an elbow injury. He surrendered a solo home run to Cesar Hernandez in the seventh inning which ended up being the winning run. The 31-year-old has allowed a run in each of his appearances this year. He hadn't pitched since 2019, where he had a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings. |
Jul 16 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt missed the entire first half after undergoing elbow surgery last September. He began a rehab assignment in mid-June, and wound up getting seven appearances under his belt in total without suffering any setbacks. He'll join the Astros' bullpen Friday, and when he's entered into a game, he'll be making his first big-league appearance since 2019 with the Rays. |
Jul 10 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) pitched three innings Friday in his sixth rehab outing and is expected to be activated immediately following the All-Star break, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty's 30-day rehab assignment expires July 15, so it's safe to assume he'll be with the Astros and active to start Friday's series in Chicago. After a rocky start to the rehab, Pruitt has pitched six scoreless innings over his last three games and has struck out three without issuing a walk, signaling that he's ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen. He'll be getting his first MLB action since 2019, when he posted a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings with the Rays. |
Jul 7 2021 | Manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday that it's "safe to assume" that Pruitt (elbow) won't return before the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has been on a rehab assignment since mid-June, and he's posted a 9.53 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 5.2 innings across five appearances (four starts) between Low-A Fayetteville and Triple-A Sugar Land. However, he'll still need more time to recover following September elbow surgery, so he's unlikely to return until mid-July at the earliest. |
Jun 22 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) will join Triple-A Sugar Land to continue this rehab assignment, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt's travels took him to Baltimore on Monday, and he threw a bullpen session prior to the Astros' win over the Orioles. Prior to joining the team in Baltimore, he made two rehab appearances with Low-A Fayetteville last week before his scheduled move up the ladder to Sugar Land. The right-hander will get a few more rehab outings with the Skeeters, but he will first need to undergo quarantine for five days upon arrival. Pruitt has received only one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. He's expected to pitch Sunday after clearing the quarantine period. |
Jun 16 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) began a rehab assignment at Low-A Fayetteville on Tuesday, giving up an unearned run on one hit during a 14-pitch inning. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The rehab appearance marked Pruitt's first outing in affiliated ball since September 2019, when he was still a member of the Rays. Pruitt was dealt to Houston last offseason and was expected to contend for a rotation plan, but those hopes were nixed when he sustained a hairline fracture in his right elbow that required surgery. The injury prevented him from participating in spring training, but Pruitt is finally on the comeback trail after the long layoff. Since Houston already has solid rotation depth on hand, the 31-year-old will most likely be preparing to rejoin the Astros in a relief role once he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list. |
Apr 10 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He had surgery in September to repair a hairline fracture in his elbow and evidently won't be ready to return to game action until June at the earliest. |
Feb 9 2021 | Pruitt (elbow) is not expected to be ready for the start of the season, Brian McTaggart of the Astros' official site reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt underwent surgery last September for a hairline fracture on his right elbow after missing the abbreviated 2020 season. He had been in the mix for a spot in the rotation during the first training camp prior to the pandemic, but the elbow put the kibosh on any chances to start when the season opened in July. Once healthy, the right-hander is expected to serve in a swing role with multiple innings as a reliever, starter or opener. |
Dec 2 2020 | Pruitt (elbow) agreed to a one-year, $617,500 contract with the Astros on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He underwent surgery in September to repair a hairline fracture in his elbow, but he is supposed to be available sometime early in the 2021 season. Pruitt profiles as a swing man or long reliever for Houston. |
Sep 4 2020 | Pruitt won't return this season, as he underwent surgery to repair a hairline fracture in his elbow Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was expected to compete for a rotation spot this season but never got the chance to do so due to what was originally referred to as elbow inflammation. The issue was evidently more serious than that, and he now won't even pick up a baseball for several months. The timing of the procedure means it's far from a guarantee that he'll be back in time for Opening Day next season. |
Aug 7 2020 | Pruitt (elbow) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old landed on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation at the start of the season and was shut down from throwing shortly thereafter. It remains unclear where Pruitt stands in his recovery, but he won't be seeing game action until at least September. |
Jul 27 2020 | Pruitt (elbow) has been shut down from throwing, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is an ominous sign for a pitcher who was diagnosed with elbow inflammation a couple weeks ago. Given the shortened season, it's quite possible Pruitt won't be heard from at all in 2020. The Astros are very shorthanded in the pitching department, as Justin Verlander, Ryan Pressly and Chris Devenski have all been diagnosed with arm injuries in the last 48 hours. |
Jul 23 2020 | Pruitt (elbow) was placed on the injured list Thursday, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt is expected to miss the first week of the season while working his way back from elbow inflammation. Once healthy, the right-hander should factor into the backend of Houston's bullpen at some point in 2020. |
Jul 15 2020 | Pruitt's elbow is feeling better, but he expects to miss at least a week at the start of the season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt has been dealing with elbow inflammation, something he also dealt with back in spring training. He was considered to be in contention for a spot in the back of the Astros' rotation, which may have an extra slot available due to the absence of Jose Urquidy (undisclosed), but his inability to build up to a starter's workload may rule him out of that conversation. Framber Valdez appears to be in line to win the job. |
Jul 14 2020 | Manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that Pruitt is "ailing" for an undisclosed reason, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear what issue Pruitt is dealing with, but Baker listed him among two other teammates that have been limited with apparent injuries. Whether the ailment impacts Pruitt's availability for the start of the regular season remains to be seen. The 30-year-old made 14 appearances (two starts) for the Rays last season, posting a 4.40 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 47 innings. |

Mar 19 2020 | Pruitt has allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three over nine spring innings. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt is still in the mix for a spot in the rotation, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. The Astros were looking at one opening in the rotation, but Justin Verlander's groin injury is estimated to make him unavailable until mid-May, just about the time MLB could be back in business following the coronavirus pandemic. There's way too much uncertainty at this point, but Pruitt is being considered along with Josh James, Framber Valdez and Bryan Abreu. |
Jan 12 2020 | Pruitt will join a group of pitchers that compete for the fifth spot in Houston's rotation, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Astros acquired Pruitt from the Rays last week, returning the Houston-area native and former University of Houston standout to the area where he grew up. "We're not sure of the exact role, but I think he can start and I think that puts him in a final group of pitchers competing for our final spot or two," Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said. The right-hander will compete with Josh James, Brad Peacock and Framber Valdez along with prospects Forrest Whitaker and Cristian Javier. Pruitt does not have minor-league options, so his inclusion on the Opening Day roster appears definite. |
Jan 9 2020 | Pruitt was traded from the Rays to the Astros in exchange for Peyton Battenfield and Cal Stevenson, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt put together the best big-league season of his career in 2019 with the Rays, posting a 4.40 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with a 39:12 K:BB over 47 frames. He'll join a Houston bullpen that already has a handful of impressive arms, likely putting him in line for mid-to-low-leverage work in 2020. |
Sep 24 2019 | Pruitt (3-0) was credited with the victory in a win over the Red Sox on Monday despite allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks over one inning. He struck out one. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pruitt was far from sharp, painting himself into a corner after retiring the first two batters in the fourth inning. The right-hander ultimately allowed five consecutive hitters to reach safely and surrendered RBI singles to Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez, but he became the pitcher of record when the Rays popped off for six runs in the home half of the frame and then hung on the rest of the way. Pruitt has allowed a total of 10 earned runs across his last six appearances overall, though six of those came in one game back on Aug. 24. |
Sep 12 2019 | Pruitt allowed one hit over 3.1 scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers. He struck out one batter and did not issue a walk. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Andrew Kittredge and Jalen Beeks combined to allow five runs in the first inning, but Pruitt's strong performance allowed the Rays to claw back into it (they actually took an 8-7 lead in the fourth before the Rangers pulled ahead again in the seventh). Pruitt now has a 0.66 ERA and 11:1 K:BB in his last three appearances (two starts), spanning 13.2 innings. With two off days next week, Pruitt figures to remain in a multi-inning relief role for the time being. |
Sep 10 2019 | Pruitt will work behind an opener Wednesday against the Rangers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old worked as a traditional starter in has last two outings and gave up only one run over 10.1 innings, but he'll follow opener Andrew Kittredge Wednesday. Pruitt had a 4.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB through 42.2 innings this season. |

Aug 30 2019 | Pruitt surrendered four hits while striking out six over 5.1 scoreless innings Friday | night against the Indians. He didn't factor into the decision. |
Aug 29 2019 | Pruitt will start Friday's game against the Indians, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic | reports. |

Jul 25 2018 | Pruitt was promoted from Triple-A Durham ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Yankees, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports. | Pruitt was shipped to the minors on July 4, but he'll return to the big leagues following the trade of Nathan Eovaldi to Boston. Pruitt has appeared in 17 games out of the bullpen for Tampa Bay this season, and he sits with a 4.18 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 32 strikeouts over 56 innings. He'll likely be deployed in mid-to-high leverage innings during his next stint with the big club. |
Jun 25 2018 | Pruitt was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Monday. | Pruitt was only just sent down on Friday, but he'll head right back to the majors as a replacement for Jonny Venters (hamstring). Pruitt has a mediocre 4.24 ERA in 51 innings for the Rays. His rather low 14.5 percent strikeout rate is offset by a very good 4.8 percent walk rate. |
Jun 22 2018 | The Rays optioned Pruitt to Triple-A Durham on Friday. | Pruitt has been solid over his last eight outings (33 innings) with a 3.27 ERA ,1.03 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB, but returns to the Bulls to make room for the return of Daniel Robertson (hamstring) from the disabled list. Pruitt allowed six runs on 10 hits over eight innings with Durham earlier this season. |
Jun 17 2018 | Pruitt fired 3.1 scoreless innings in which he allowed one hit and recorded two strikeouts during a loss to the Yankees on Saturday. | That's two consecutive positive outings for Pruitt after he'd been hammered for eight earned runs over the first two appearances of June. The 28-year-old right-hander has been all over the place with his performances this season, as he's allowed multiple earned runs on five occasions and generated scoreless efforts in another four instances. However, despite his inconsistency, Pruitt remains a viable option for manager Kevin Cash, considering that his versatility dovetails well with the Rays skipper's propensity for using his relievers for multi-inning stints this season, especially on "bullpen days". |
Jun 7 2018 | Pruitt will piggyback starter Ryne Stanek in Thursday's game against the Mariners and is expected to cover most of the innings for the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Though the Rays have no healthy full-time starters at the moment beyond Blake Snell and Nathan Eovaldi, it doesn't appear manager Kevin Cash is itching to fill the remaining two openings in the rotation. Instead, the Rays will continue to mix and match relievers as "openers" for games when needed, with Ryan Yarbrough and Pruitt acting as de facto starters and maintaining more regimented pitching schedules. The unorthodox usage pattern has seemingly suited Pruitt well, as he has posted a 1.78 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over the five games this season in which he has thrown at least four innings out of the bullpen. |
Jun 7 2018 | Pruitt (1-3) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six across seven innings to take the loss Thursday against the Mariners. | Pruitt entered the game in the second inning and immediately allowed three earned runs on a string of singles by the Mariners. He surrendered two solo home runs later in the game, but mostly settled in, allowing only four hits in his next six innings. Most of his work now comes in long relief, pitching the majority of innings in Rays "bullpen" games. However, he doesn't generate many strikeouts and his ratios aren't particularly impressive, so his fantasy value comes from his occasional wins and saves. |
Jun 2 2018 | Pruitt, who recorded three strikeouts and allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings in an extra-innings loss to the Mariners on Friday, has now pitched at least five innings in three consecutive relief appearances. | Included in that sample is an extremely rare five-inning-plus save May 27 against the Orioles. Three straight long-relief outings of five innings or more qualify as highly unusual as well, but given how creative manager Kevin Cash has been with the use of his pitching staff this season, it's a slightly more plausible scenario in Tampa than it would be virtually anywhere else. Pruitt's ability to essentially work a starter's workload irrespective of the order in which he enters the game figures to continue affording him a solid workload while he remains at the big-league level. |
May 27 2018 | Pruitt tossed 5.2 scoreless innings Sunday to earn his first save of the season Sunday against the Orioles, allowing three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. | Pruitt came on with one out in the fourth inning and retired eight of the first nine batters he faced. He was able to keep the Os off the board for the duration of his time on the mound, becoming the first player in 15 years to record a five-inning save. Pruitt has allowed just two runs in his last 13.1 innings, but he still has a 4.02 ERA for the season and doesn't carry much fantasy value as a long reliever. |
May 23 2018 | Pruitt allowed an earned run on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman over 5.1 innings during a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday. He also recorded two strikeouts. | Pruitt was forced into an extended stint due to Jacob Faria's early exit from the game with an oblique injury, and he delivered a clutch performance that afforded the Rays bullpen some rest. The right-hander threw 73 pitches overall during his outing, which was his longest of the season. Pruitt has given up at least one earned run in five consecutive appearances, however, so his ERA remains an elevated 4.91. |
May 14 2018 | Pruitt allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk over 3.1 innings in a blowout loss to the Orioles on Sunday. He also recorded a strikeout. | Just recalled from Triple-A Durham a day earlier, Pruitt received a rude welcome back to the big leagues. The right-hander put in a hefty workload of 68 pitches, and although he managed to avoid the long ball after starter Blake Snell and Andrew Kittredge had combined to allow four home runs, he struggled considerably in his final frame. Given the way the Rays have shuttled several bullpen pieces back and forth to Durham this season, Pruitt's current big-league tenure may not last long. |
May 12 2018 | Pruitt was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pruitt will take the roster spot of Ryne Stanek, who was optioned to the minors in a corresponding move after being used out of the bullpen the previous two days. It's unclear if he'll slide into a long relief role or if the Rays will ask him to make a spot start, as he started his most recent appearance for the Bulls. Pruitt owns a 4.91 ERA across 14.2 innings with the Rays this season and a 6.75 ERA across eight innings with Durham. |
Apr 15 2018 | Pruitt allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, a walk and a wild pitch over five innings in a 9-4 loss to the Phillies on Saturday. He also recorded a strikeout. | Pruitt was pressed into long-relief duty after Chris Archer was chased following a forgettable four innings. The versatile right-hander responded with a bullpen-preserving, 70-pitch performance that was pivotal to allowing his fellow relievers some much-needed rest. The versatility that Pruitt displayed Saturday crystallizes his value to the Rays' fluid pitching staff situation at present. |
Apr 12 2018 | Pruitt (1-2) allowed two earned runs on four hits over one inning in a 2-1 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday. He also recorded a strikeout. | The right-hander was charged with preserving a 1-0 lead to open the bottom of the eighth, but he couldn't seal the deal after opening the inning with a swinging strikeout of Avisail Garcia. After allowing a Jose Abreu single, Pruitt then surrendered a 419-foot two-run shot to Matt Davidson that ended up representing the winning runs. The 28-year-old has had quite a rollercoaster of a start to his season, allowing eight runs (seven earned) over two appearances while generating scoreless efforts in his other pair of trips to the mound. |
Apr 8 2018 | Pruitt fired 4.1 scoreless innings in Saturday's 10-3 loss to the Red Sox, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two. | He chewed up some precious innings after starter Jacob Faria flamed out by allowing eight earned runs on five hits and five walks over 1.2 innings. The outing was a nice bounce-back for Pruitt, who hadn't exactly been stellar himself while surrendering six runs over 2.1 innings in his last outing Tuesday against the Yankees. Factoring in Saturday's effort, Pruitt has now sandwiched 6.1 scoreless frames around the aforementioned clunker against New York over his first three appearances of the season. |
Apr 4 2018 | Pruitt (1-1) allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits and two walks over 2.1 innings in Tuesday's 11-4 loss to the Yankees. He struck out four. | Originally scheduled to start Monday, Pruitt saw the opportunity evaporate when that game was postponed due to inclement weather. He had the chance to get some work in Tuesday, but that produced disastrous results, as the right-hander was walloped for a three-run home run by Didi Gregorius among the trio of hits he gave up. Having thrown 50 pitches in Tuesday's long-relief stint, it would appear highly unlikely that Pruitt takes the mound Thursday against the Red Sox, although he could conceivably be part of a cadre of relievers that sees action if manager Kevin Cash opts to make it one of the team's bullpen days. |
Apr 2 2018 | Pruitt won't make his scheduled start Monday against the Yankees after snowy conditions in New York resulted in the game being postponed, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. | The two sides will make up the game Tuesday at 4 p.m. EDT, but it's not guaranteed that Pruitt will be on the mound for that game. Thanks to the break in the schedule Monday, Chris Archer and Blake Snell would be able to start Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, on four days' rest. The Rays would still need to appoint a pitcher to their four-man rotation for Thursday's series opener in Boston, so Pruitt could end up starting that contest. |
Apr 1 2018 | Pruitt will start Monday's game against the Yankees, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pruitt pitched two innings in relief during Thursday's win over the Red Sox, so the right-hander is likely to handle a limited pitch count while taking the mound on only three days' rest. Much like the team did Saturday when Andrew Kittredge started, it's expected that Monday will be a "bullpen game" for the Rays, with a couple of the team's long relievers likely to cover multiple innings once Pruitt departs. The Rays have yet to formalize their rotation beyond Chris Archer, Blake Snell and Jake Faria, so Pruitt could stake a claim to the No. 4 role with a strong showing Monday. |
Mar 30 2018 | Pruitt (1-0) fired two scoreless innings in Thursday's 6-4 Opening Day win over the Red Sox, allowing just a hit and a walk. | Taking over for Chris Archer after six innings, Pruitt got through a pair of frames with 26 pitches and served as an effective bridge to closer Alex Colome. The right-hander is slated to serve as a starter for approximately the next two months while Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) recovers from surgery, but as he demonstrated Thursday, he has the ability to fill a variety of roles when called upon. |
Mar 28 2018 | Pruitt was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pruitt will take the spot of Nathan Eovaldi -- who is set to undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery -- in the Rays' rotation. The 28-year-old was recently optioned to Triple-A Durham last weekend, but is now in line for a solid amount of starts with Eovaldi expected to miss about two month's of action. During 30 appearances with the Rays in 2017, Pruitt posted a 5.31 ERA and 66:22 K:BB over 83 innings split between the rotation and bullpen. At this moment, it seems as though he will take the mound against the Yankees on Monday. |
Mar 19 2018 | Pruitt's versatility, which the Rays will count on heavily this season, was underscored by his strong performance against the Red Sox in a Saturday Grapefruit League start, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. | He fired a trio of scoreless innings in which he only gave up two hits and recorded a pair of strikeouts, lowering his spring ERA to a solid 2.08 in the process. Pruitt demonstrated his ability to start, work in long relief or get some timely outs in shorter stints last season, and with manager Kevin Cash's plans to utilize his relievers in some potentially unusual capacities in 2018, that versatility figures to only up Pruitt's value. Moreover, his penchant for getting ahead of hitters -- he threw first-pitch strikes to 66 percent of batters last season -- combined with a diversified repertoire that includes a fastball, curveball, slider and changeup give him an opportunity to effectively carry out any number of roles he may be tasked with. |
Mar 8 2018 | Pruitt is one of several relievers who could be called upon to work extended innings under the Rays' plan to use the bullpen as a de facto fifth starter, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. | The 28-year-old right-hander logged the first eight starts of his major-league career last season with the Rays, and according to the plans elaborated on by manager Kevin Cash on Wednesday, he could potentially be in for several extended outings this season despite not being projected as a starter. Cash explained he plans to go with a four-man rotation as his foundation for the entirety of the season if feasible, and utilize multiple relievers with starting experience -- Pruitt among them -- as the collective fifth starter on days when one is needed. Pruitt's introduction to big-league hitters was a rocky one in 2017, as he generated a 5.31 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 83 innings. He's been steadier thus far this spring, posting a 4.50 ERA over four innings across three appearances. |
Sep 16 2017 | Pruitt (7-5) took the loss in Friday's 13-6 extra-inning defeat at the hands of the Red Sox, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over two-plus innings. He struck out three. | Pruitt played a pivotal hand in putting an end to the 15-inning marathon, allowing a fielder's choice groundout to Dustin Pedroia and then seeing the three runs driven in by Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland also go on his ledger after he'd exited in the top of the 15th. The 29-year-old had been impressive in a long-relief role against this same Red Sox squad last Saturday, allowing just an earned run over four innings while striking out five. He's slated to serve in a similar capacity for the balance of the regular season. |
Sep 5 2017 | Pruitt is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Red Sox, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pruitt will step into the rotation for the injured Chris Archer (forearm), who won't be able to make his next start on schedule. Archer isn't expected to miss more than one start, so Pruitt will likely head back to a long relief role following Friday's outing. The 28-year-old has compiled a serviceable 4.19 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in eight starts for the Rays this season. |
Aug 29 2017 | Pruitt is expected to move back to the bullpen when next available to pitch Saturday against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Though he picked up the win Monday against the Royals after tossing six scoreless innings of one-hit ball, Pruitt has been rather erratic in his last seven turns through the rotation, registering a 4.50 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 40 innings. After former starter Matt Andriese (hip), who was activated from the 60-day disabled list earlier Monday, piggybacked Pruitt with three shutout innings of his own to close out the contest, Rays manager Kevin Cash apparently decided that he saw enough from Andriese to warrant inserting him back into the rotation. Pruitt could very well pick up additional starts this season as injuries and the Rays' schedule present opportunities, but now that he's due to work out of the bullpen for the foreseeable future, he'll lose most of his value in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats. |
Aug 28 2017 | Pruitt (7-4) earned the victory behind six shutout innings and allow just one hit and one walk while striking out six Monday against Kansas City. | Pruit rebounded fantastically from serving up 11 runs over his past two starts, including a four-homer disaster last time out against Toronto. This marks just the fifth time Pruitt has completed six innings in nine starts, and it's his fourth quality start of the season. Pruitt has a strong 55:16 K:BB ratio; the question will be if he can keep the ball in the yard consistently like he did Monday night. |
Aug 24 2017 | Pruitt surrendered five runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- over 3.2 innings Wednesday but escaped with a no-decision in a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out two. | It was the 27-year-old's shortest outing since moving into the rotation at the end of July, and Pruitt now has a 5.29 ERA and 2.1 HR/9 in 34 innings over six starts in the second half. The Rays remain only four games back of the Twins for the second wild-card spot in the AL, but with five other teams between them and a playoff berth, the front office may elect to keep rolling with Pruitt rather than replace him with top prospect Brent Honeywell and try to make a late surge in the standings. Pruitt will next take the mound Monday in Kansas City. |
Aug 18 2017 | Pruitt (6-4) allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings to take the loss Friday against the Mariners. | Pruitt was lit up for three runs in the first inning and settled down before faltering again before leaving the contest with a 6-0 deficit. He came into this game having allowed just four runs over his previous three starts to lower his ERA from 6.63 to 5.07, but this game moved him back to 6.00. His volatility makes him difficult to trust, but he does have useful upside. He'll make his next start Friday against the Cardinals. |
Aug 13 2017 | Pruitt allowed three runs on four hits and a walk through six innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Indians. He struck out three. | Pruitt has now hurled three consecutive quality starts, and he appears to be settling into his place in the Rays' rotation. Since joining the big-league rotation at the end of July, the 27-year-old owns a solid 3.47 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in four starts. He'll look to keep things rolling Friday against the Mariners. |
Aug 8 2017 | Pruitt (6-3) allowed only one run on seven hits and a walk over six innings while striking out five in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Red Sox. | The right-hander put together his second straight quality start, but with Chris Sale in peak form opposite him, Pruitt had no chance at securing a win. He's now lowered his ERA to 5.14, and will look to keep chipping away at it Sunday at home against Cleveland. |
Aug 2 2017 | Pruitt (6-2) allowed five hits and one walk while striking out three over 6.1 shutout innings to beat the Astros on Wednesday. | Pruitt shut down a Houston offense that came in scoring a league-high 5.93 runs per game while handing Dallas Keuchel his first loss of the season. This was a surprising result to say the least for a rookie that started the year in the bullpen and had never pitched more than five innings in a major league game before. He got lit up for five runs in five innings at Yankee Stadium in his last start, so this outing likely wasn't enough to keep Pruitt in the rotation with Jake Odorizzi's (back) return imminent. |
Jul 28 2017 | Pruitt (5-2) allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings to take the loss Friday against the Yankees. | Pruitt allowed three homers, but the last one, a three-run bomb by Clint Frazier, broke open a close game in the fifth inning. With a 6.63 ERA over 36.2 innings of work at the big-league level, he'll likely leave the rotation once Jake Odorizzi (back) returns from the disabled list. For now, he'll make his next start Wednesday against the Astros. |
Jul 27 2017 | Pruitt will start Friday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | The 6.25 ERA he has in 31.2 major-league innings hides decent control, but a trip to hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium doesn't offer Pruitt much upside as a fantasy streamer. He'll probably leave the rotation once Jake Odorizzi (back) resurfaces from the 10-day disabled list. |
Jul 26 2017 | Pruitt could be a candidate to make a spot start Friday against the Yankees in place of the injured Jake Odorizzi (back), Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports. | Perhaps in anticipation of Odorizzi's surprise placement on the disabled list Wednesday, the Rays scratched Pruitt from his scheduled start with Triple-A Durham a night earlier. While Pruitt lacks the upside of the Rays' top pitching prospect, Brent Honeywell -- who could be a candidate to join the rotation himself if Odorizzi's injury proves to be a long-term concern -- the 27-year-old has been no slouch at Durham this season, accruing a 2.55 ERA and 0.79 WHIP while submitting a 33:2 K:BB over 24.2 innings. However, Pruitt has struggled to carry over that success in his 18 appearances (one start) with Tampa Bay, delivering a 6.25 ERA in 31.2 innings, so he'll probably need to find some success at the big-league level before generating much intrigue in the fantasy realm. |
Jun 23 2017 | Pruitt pitched three shutout innings on three hits while striking out one to earn his first save Friday against the Orioles. | Despite protecting a nine-run lead, he qualified for a save based on the rule that awards a save for a pitcher recording three effective innings to close out a victory. Although the save was nice, his 6.25 ERA makes him a player with little fantasy appeal. |
Jun 14 2017 | Pruitt fired 2.2 scoreless innings in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Blue Jays, allowing two hits and issuing one walk. He struck out two. | The right-hander contributed his second straight strong outing after getting lit up for three earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings by the Mariners on June 4. Pruitt has certainly taken his lumps this year -- as evidenced by five outings in which he's surrendered multiple earned runs -- but he's also posted five scoreless multi-inning efforts, three of which have come in his last four trips to the mound. His ability to eat up valuable innings is likely to continue affording him a bullpen spot provided he's able to progressively limit the damage. |
Jun 11 2017 | Pruitt (5-1) pitched a scoreless top half of the 10th inning, and Tampa Bay scored in the bottom half of the frame to beat the Athletics on Saturday. | The five wins jump off the page for a reliever, but Pruitt's 7.30 ERA and 1.82 WHIP are disastrous fantasy marks. The victory follows a poor previous outing (three runs allowed over just 1.1 innings) against Seattle, and the 27-year-old righty's inconsistency and lack of a go-to role out of the Tampa Bay bullpen make him a desperation asset. |
Jun 1 2017 | Pruitt (4-1) fired two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Rangers, notching three strikeouts. | The 27-year-old right-hander had been recalled from Triple-A Durham earlier Wednesday and was thrown right into the fire in a high-leverage situation. Pruitt impressively fired 16 of 24 pitches for strikes over his two frames, bouncing back nicely after having surrendered nine runs (seven earned) in the six innings that encompassed his last three appearances before being sent down to the Bulls back on May 9. |
May 31 2017 | Pruitt is expected to be recalled by the Rays on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. | Pruitt began the season with the Rays to mixed results, he struggled out of the bullpen to a 8.83 ERA over 11 games, but threw three scoreless innings in a start against Baltimore. In the end, his 3.72 FIP indicated long-term potential and he earned his way back by posting a 1.04 ERA and a 0.46 WHIP over five relief appearances with Triple-A Durham. Look for the right-hander to be used primarily in low-leverage relief situations. |

May 31 2017 | Pruitt was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports. | Pruitt will return for his second stint with the big club this season, providing a fresh arm to a bullpen that was forced into action early on during Tuesday's game.
