ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hitting ninth in the order, Bader took Gerrit Cole deep in the second inning, one of four homers by the Mets off the Yankees' ace. The 30-year-old center fielder is slashing .273/.295/.545 through 18 games in June with three of his five homers and three of his 11 steals on the season.
Jun 23 2024Bader went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, one stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader entered Sunday 0-for-9 over his last three games. He broke the drought with his fourth multi-hit effort over 17 contests in June. While he's hitting .255 (13-for-51) this month, eight of those knocks have gone for extra bases, and he's driven in 11 runs. The outfielder is slashing .268/.316/.388 with four home runs, 13 doubles, 27 RBI, 27 runs scored and 10 steals through 67 games this season.
Jun 22 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will sit down versus Jameson Taillon and the Cubs after going 0-for-9 and striking out four times in his last three games. While he rests, DJ Stewart, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte will start across New York's outfield.
Jun 17 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had manned center field for the last two contests and five of the previous six games but will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. Tyrone Taylor will fill in for Bader in center field.
Jun 16 2024Bader went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader impacted this game in numerous ways, as he scored both times he reached. He drove in a run and managed to pick up his ninth steal this season. The centerfielder has been hot of late, picking up 10 of his 26 RBI over his last 10 games. Bader snapped a streak of 18 games without a steal and will carry a .272/.319/.385 slash line into a series vs the Rangers beginning Monday.
Jun 14 2024Bader is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will begin the contest on the bench as the Mets go up against knuckleballer Matt Waldron. Tyrone Taylor is handling center field.
Jun 12 2024Bader went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader helped New York get off to a fast start, belting a two-run shot in the first inning. He added a single in the eighth inning for just his second multi-hit performance over his past 14 contests. Bader is batting just .216 during that span, though he does have a pair of homers and nine RBI. His slash line sits at .266/.317/.380 on the season.
Jun 9 2024Bader is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will begin Sunday's game in the dugout after going 0-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 7-2 loss. Tyrone Taylor will start in center field and bat sixth against right-hander Taijuan Walker.
Jun 6 2024Bader went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old brought home Tyrone Taylor with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning before knocking a two-run double in the sixth. Bader has produced multiple RBI in three straight games, and on the season he carries a .272/.317/.376 slash line with three homers, eight steals, 21 runs and 23 RBI in 55 contests.
Jun 5 2024Bader went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The center fielder took rookie southpaw DJ Herz deep in the fourth inning to open the scoring on the night. Bader has taken a step forward offensively since mid-May, slashing .281/.328/.474 over his last 20 games with two of his three homers on the season along with three steals, five runs and 13 RBI.
Jun 2 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old outfielder will get a rest day and cede center-field duties to Tyrone Taylor as the Mets close out the series against the Diamondbacks. Bader has started seven of the last 10 games for New York, going 6-for-26 with four RBI and one home run in that stretch.
May 30 2024Bader is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Mets will go with Brandon Nimmo in center field for this one, with DJ Stewart getting the call in left field. Bader is one of the few Mets players playing at or above expectations this season with a 103 OPS+ along with stellar outfield defense. However, he's nonetheless found himself out of the lineup fairly often with 15 starts over the Mets' last 22 contests.
May 28 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old has a .281/.361/.391 slash line through 21 games in May and will sit for the first game of Tuesday's twin bill. Tyrone Taylor will instead start in center field, though Bader will likely rejoin the lineup for Game 2.
May 26 2024Bader went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Sunday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader tied the score twice, first in the second inning with an RBI single, then more importantly in the ninth inning when his double plated two to tie the game and helped set up the come-from-behind win for the struggling Mets. Through 45 games, Bader is now slashing .279/.329/.361 with two homers, six doubles, 16 RBI, 17 runs and eight steals over 155 plate appearances in his first season in Queens. This was Bader's first multi-hit game since May 19.
May 25 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader reached base twice and swiped a bag during a loss in Friday's series opener, and he will now step out of the starting lineup as DJ Stewart, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte start across the outfield.
May 22 2024Bader went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader extended the Mets lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning with a solo shot off Triston McKenzie, his second long ball of the year and first since April 17. Bader's been swinging the bat well, going 10-for-30 with six RBI in his last eight games. He's slashing .281/.324/.360 with 17 runs scored, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases across 42 games as the Mets' primary center-fielder this season.
May 21 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Cleveland, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader started the previous four games but will receive a day off after he went 5-for-16 with a double, four RBI and a steal during that stretch. Tyrone Taylor will take over in center field and bat fifth.
May 16 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader tallied a base hit in both of the games he played during New York's current series against Philadelphia, and he'll get a day off during Thursday's finale. His absence will allow Tyrone Taylor to start in center field, batting fifth.
May 14 2024Bader is absent from the lineup in Tuesday's contest against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had started each of the last four games but will sit out Tuesday's afternoon tilt. The Mets are going with Tyrone Taylor in center field.
May 7 2024Bader is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the second straight day Bader has been out of the lineup, although he did contribute a pinch-hit double Monday (before being thrown out on the bases). Brandon Nimmo is in center field and DJ Stewart will occupy left.
May 6 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll begin the game on the bench while Brandon Nimmo slides over to center field. Bader is batting .278 this season but has managed just three extra-base hits.
May 3 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get the day off Friday, as Tyrone Taylor fills in at center field against Aaron Civale and the Rays. Bader played in each game of the Mets four-game series against the Cubs, so it's likely a rest day for the center fielder.
Apr 30 2024Bader is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It would appear to be a routine day off for Bader. Tyrone Taylor will occupy center field for the Mets against Javier Assad and the Cubs.
Apr 27 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a day to regroup after going 0-for-10 across his last three games. His absence will allow Tyrone Taylor to start in center field and bat seventh.
Apr 23 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a day off after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Monday's win in the series opener. Brandon Nimmo will slide over to center field in his place, moving Jeff McNeil into left and allowing Joey Wendle to start at second base, batting eighth.
Apr 19 2024Bader went 4-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, one RBI and a run scored in Friday's win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader drove in the second New York run with a single in the second inning before swiping a bag in the sixth. Mets center fielder has collected a hit in 11 of his past 13 games, batting .361 (17-for-47) with nine runs scored, six RBI and four steals over the span. Overall, Bader is slashing .333/.367/.421 over 60 plate appearances this the season. He is firmly cemented in the Mets lineup batting eighth or ninth every game.
Apr 18 2024Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His sixth-inning shot down the left-field line helped break the game open for the Mets. It was Bader's first homer with the club, and after a slow start at the plate to 2024, the 29-year-old has come alive by batting .385 (10-for-26) over his last seven games. The surge has lifted his season slash line to .288/.327/.365 with three steals, five RBI and eight runs on the season.
Apr 15 2024Bader went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader played the hero Monday for the Mets as he broke a tie in the eighth inning with a two-RBI double off Aroldis Chapman. His double knocked Chapman out of the game, allowing him to promptly steal third base off the new reliever, Roansy Contreras. Bader is riding a five-game hit streak while slashing .304/.333/.326 over 48 plate appearances on the season.
Apr 13 2024Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup Saturday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a day off after going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's win. Brandon Nimmo will shift to center field in Bader's absence as Jeff McNeil moves to left field, allowing Joey Wendle to start at the keystone while batting ninth.
Apr 8 2024Bader is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus Atlanta, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It would appear to be a routine day off for Bader, who is 5-for-26 with zero RBI in his first eight games this season. Brandon Nimmo will slide over to center field, Jeff McNeil will handle left, and Joey Wendle will get a start at second base.
Apr 6 2024Bader went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting the start in center field and batting eighth, Bader drew a free pass in the seventh inning off Fernando Cruz with out one and promptly got himself into scoring position. It was the first steal of the season for Bader, and the 29-year-old has started six of the Mets' first seven games, batting .222 (4-for-18) with a 1:7 BB:K. He swiped a career-high 20 bases in 2023, but Bader's poor on-base skills will make it tough for him to improve significantly on that performance.
Apr 4 2024Bader is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will likely be back in the starting nine for the second game of the twin bill, but he'll cede center field to Tyrone Taylor in the first game of the day.
Mar 31 2024Bader is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader started the first two games of the season but will head to the bench Sunday after going 1-for-7 with two strikeouts. Tyrone Taylor will take over in center field and bat eighth.
Mar 25 2024Bader has hit .241 (7-for-29) this spring with two homers, two steals and a 3:4 BB:K. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old is locked in as the Mets' starting center fielder after signing a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the club in January. Bader stole a career-high 20 bases in 2023 in only 98 games split between the Yankees and Reds, but he slashed only .232/.274/.348. He's expected to hit in the bottom half of the order for the Mets, muting his fantasy appeal further.
Feb 19 2024Manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday that Bader (groin) will serve as the Mets' everyday center fielder this season, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Nimmo has seen the bulk of the starts in center field for the Mets in each of the past four seasons, but he's graded out as an average-to-below-average defender in most of those years and will shift to left field to make room for Bader, who should represent a notable upgrade with the glove. Durability hasn't been a strong suit for Bader in recent seasons, however, and even when healthy, he's taken a step backward at the plate since his last full campaign with St. Louis in 2021. In the ensuing two seasons, Bader has cobbled together an underwhelming .251/.299/.393 slash line (89 wRC+) over 1,058 plate appearances with three different teams. His defense and $10.5 million salary should keep Bader's playing time secure in his first season with the Mets, but expect him to bat near the bottom of the lineup and provide most of his fantasy value in the steals category, after he pilfered a career-high 20 bags in 2023 despite playing in only 98 games. The 29-year-old underwent surgery at the end of last season to address a groin strain suffered in September, but he said Monday that he will "absolutely" be ready for Opening Day, even if the Mets elect to ease him along slowly in camp, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.
Jan 4 2024Bader signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has slashed just .241/.284/.352 over 657 plate appearances since the start of the 2022 campaign but remains one of the premier center field defenders in the game. The 29-year-old should see the bulk of the starts in center for the Mets, allowing Brandon Nimmo to shift to left field. Nimmo is expected to still play some center versus righties, which would likely mean DJ Stewart in left those days. Bader also provides some protection in the event Starling Marte gets hurt again, although Bader has been pretty brittle himself.
Sep 23 2023Bader (groin) will not return this season, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit the injured list with a groin strain Monday, and the injury is evidently serious enough that he won't play again this season even if the Reds make a playoff run. He recorded a .429 OPS in 14 games with Cincinnati after being claimed off waivers from the Yankees, meaning he'll head into free agency having hit just .232/.274/.348 in his walk year.
Sep 18 2023Bader was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right groin strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Mets and will be sidelined for at least the next week and a half. He will be eligible for activation during the Reds' final series of the regular season, although it remains to be seen whether he will be ready at that time.
Sep 6 2023Bader is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was added to the lineup Tuesday versus a right-hander after Hunter Renfroe (hamstring) had to be scratched, but the 29-year-old went 0-for-4 and will head back to the bench Wednesday even as Renfroe remains sidelined. Bader should continue to draw most of his starts against southpaws. It'll be another righty in Logan Gilbert taking the mound for Seattle on Wednesday at Great American Ball Park.
Sep 5 2023Bader was added to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will start in center field and bat seventh versus the Mariners and right-hander Bryce Miller after Hunter Renfroe was scratched due to left hamstring tightness. Bader has primarily played against left-handed pitching opponents since the Reds claimed him off waivers from the Yankees on Aug. 31.
Sep 3 2023Bader entered as a pinch runner, stole a base and scored a run in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader ran for Jake Fraley, who led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double, then Bader stole third before coming home with the game-tying run on an Elly De La Cruz base hit. The steal was the 18th for Bader, who's notched double-digit thefts in four of the last five full MLB seasons. He's made two appearances -- one start in Saturday's doubleheader -- since being claimed off waivers from the Yankees and is expected to provide depth for the new club.
Sep 1 2023Bader is starting in center field and batting leadoff in his Reds debut Friday in the first game of a doubleheader versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Jordan Wicks is starting for the Cubs, so the Reds have a lineup full of right-handed and switch hitters. Bader might not play much versus righties, but he could be his new team's regular leadoff hitter and center fielder against southpaws.
Aug 31 2023Cincinnati claimed Bader off waivers from the Yankees on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com of ESPN reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader never really found his groove in New York, partly due to injuries, but he has always been productive against left-handed pitching and plays excellent defense in center field. The 29-year-old is a solid and inexpensive pickup for the Reds as they battle through key injuries and try to make up ground in both the NL Central and NL Wild Card standings. He's only owed what's left of his $5.2 million salary for 2023 and is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.
Aug 29 2023The Yankees placed Bader on waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has slashed .242/.279/.370 across 302 plate appearances with the Yankees this season, and any team is now free to pick him up with a waiver claim. The speedy outfielder signed a two-year, $10.4 million contract in 2022, but his new team will only be responsible for whatever remains on his deal.
Aug 28 2023Bader is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was held out only once over the last 23 games, but with him going just 3-for-35 (.086) over the last 10 games he started, he will open on the bench for the second time in four days. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will man center field for the Yankees on Monday.
Aug 25 2023Bader is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start in center field for the Yankees after Bader went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Thursday's series finale against the Nationals. The 29-year-old impending free agent has batted .249/.287/.381 with seven homers and 16 steals through 78 games this season.
Aug 23 2023Bader went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 9-1 victory versus Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Judge stole the show Wednesday with three home runs, but Bader posted a nice stat line as well while notching his first multi-hit game in nearly two weeks. The center fielder also logged his first multi-steal contest of the campaign, raising his season total to 16 thefts in 18 attempts. That stat has been the primary source of Bader's fantasy value, as he's otherwise posted a quiet .254/.292/.388 slash line with seven homers, 39 RBI and 40 runs over 289 plate appearances.
Aug 7 2023Bader went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI in Sunday's loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had collected just three hits through 15 at-bats in August coming into Sunday before he matched that hit tally in five plate appearances. The outfielder also notched his first two RBI of the month with run-scoring singles in the fourth and eighth frames. Bader is slashing .260/.291/.420 with seven homers, 35 RBI, 32 runs and 11 stolen bases through 63 contests on the campaign.
Aug 1 2023Bader is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It may just be a standard rest day for Bader after starting seven straight games in center field, but it's also worth noting he's drawn some trade interest ahead of Tuesday's deadline, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Billy McKinney is manning center field and batting seventh.
Jul 26 2023Bader went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader collected half of the Yankees' hits in the contest, including the team's only extra-base hit with his second-inning double. That knock led to the team's second run, and Bader crossed the plate again in the fourth following a leadoff infield single. The veteran outfielder tied a season high with the three hits and recorded his first multi-hit game since July 3.
Jul 23 2023Bader (ribs) is starting in center field and batting sixth Sunday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been held out of the lineup since Wednesday due to bruised ribs, but he made an appearance off the bench Saturday and is back in the starting nine for Sunday's series finale. The 29-year-old has struggled early in the second half with a .182/.240/.182 slash line through seven games.
Jul 22 2023Bader (ribs) remains on the bench Saturday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader left Wednesday's game against the Angels with bruised ribs after getting hit by a pitch and hasn't played since. He was reportedly available off the bench Friday but didn't make an appearance, so it's likely he'll be available in a similar capacity Saturday. He's expected back in the lineup Sunday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Jul 21 2023Bader (ribs) is available off the bench Friday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader is not in the Yankees' lineup after taking a pitch to the back of his ribs in Wednesday's loss to the Angels. However, the outfielder is feeling much better and is available to come in mid-game, if needed. He could be back in the lineup Saturday.
Jul 19 2023Bader left Wednesday's game against the Angels with a left posterior rib contusion. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader suffered the injury after taking a pitch to the back during the sixth inning. Bader will have an extra day to recover before the Yankees' next game Friday, but it's possible the speedy outfielder misses a game or two.
Jul 5 2023Bader is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's tilt versus the Orioles, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that Bader is "a little sore" after being hit in the wrist by a pitch Tuesday but also added that "the wrist is fine" and this is simply a day off. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is in center field Wednesday.
Jul 3 2023Bader went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run against Baltimore in a 6-3 win Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's three-run shot in the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie and provided the winning margin for the Yankees. It was his seventh long ball of the campaign and his first since returning from a three-week stint on the injured list June 20. Bader has four multi-hit performances over his past seven contests and is batting .321 (9-for-28) with seven RBI over that span.
Jul 1 2023Bader isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been hot at the plate recently, going 8-for-21 (.381) with three RBI and four runs scored across his last five games. He'll get a breather for Game 1 while Isiah Kiner-Falefa takes over in center field and bats fifth, although Bader figures to return to the lineup in the nightcap.
Jun 30 2023Bader went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's been swinging a hot bat of late, going 7-for-17 (.412) with four doubles in his last four games. Overall, he's slashing .268/.295/.480 with six homers, 19 runs scored, 22 RBI and seven steals through 129 plate appearances while batting in the middle of the Yankees' lineup.
Jun 23 2023Bader isn't in the Yankees' lineup Friday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has gone 1-for-11 in three games since returning from the injured list Tuesday. He'll get a day off Friday as Isiah Kiner-Falefa gets the start in center field while batting sixth.
Jun 21 2023Bader went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader singled in his first at-bat of the game and stole second before coming around to score on a two-run homer from Billy McKinney. Bader provided an immediate impact to the lineup after missing just about three weeks with a hamstring injury and should carve himself out a regular role moving forward while presenting an intriguing power-speed combination and plus defense. The 29-year-old currently sits at a slash line of .269/.296/.505 with six homers, 19 RBI, 15 runs, seven steals and a 3:13 BB:K over 98 plate appearances.
Jun 20 2023Bader is starting in center field and batting sixth in his return to the lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It will be Bader's first game in June after he missed three weeks of action with a strained right hamstring. He's put up an .806 OPS with six home runs and six stolen bases when healthy this season and the Yankees will be hoping he can provide a boost to a struggling lineup.
Jun 16 2023Bader (hamstring) will play two more rehab games with Double-A Somerset on Friday and Saturday before returning from the injured list Tuesday, Randy Miller and Max Goodman of NJ.com report. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The initial expectation was that Bader would be activated Friday ahead of the Yankees' series in Boston. However, the outfielder or team evidently decided he could use a couple more rehab games after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first rehab contest with Somerset on Wednesday. Bader has been sidelined since late May with a right hamstring strain.
Jun 13 2023Bader (hamstring) will play in a rehab game Wednesday before being activated Friday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on the Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's return for the weekend series in Boston is predicated on him getting through Wednesday's rehab contest with no issues, of course. The center fielder has been sidelined since late May with a right hamstring strain and a return date had seemed unclear, but it sounds like the Yankees and fantasy managers will be getting him back soon.
Jun 9 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that he's unsure whether Bader (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Friday is the first day Bader is eligible for activation from the injured list, but clearly it's going to be awhile longer for the speedy outfielder. He strained his right hamstring back on May 29.
Jun 6 2023Bader (hamstring) is unlikely to be ready for activation from the injured list when first eligible Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been going through some baseball activities and hasn't felt anything in his strained right hamstring, but he just needs a little more time. A return around the middle of the month seems possible. The Yankees are using Isiah Kiner-Falefa in center field with Bader out.
May 30 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters after Tuesday's win over the Mariners that Bader's right hamstring strain is considered low grade, and he'll be out for at least a couple of weeks, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's positive news that the MRI on Hader's hamstring didn't reveal any significant structural damage, but the Yankees will still be without their starting centerfielder for at least two weeks with the possibility for more. While Hader recovers, the Yankees will likely play Greg Allen in center with Isiah Kiner-Falefa also a plausible candidate to get reps in the middle of the outfield.
May 29 2023Bader (hamstring) is scheduled to have an MRI on Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team should have a better understanding of Bader's injury after he undergoes further testing. He'll be labeled day-to-day until more information comes to light.
May 24 2023Bader went 2-for-4 with a home run and two total RBI in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe will get the most recognition for the win as a result of their late-inning clutch at-bats, but Bader was key in helping to bring New York back from an early deficit. He hit a solo homer in the fourth to plate the team's first run and produced a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the score 4-4. Bader is in the midst of a modest four-game hitting streak, batting .333 (5-for-15) with two homers, five RBI and a steal over that stretch.
May 21 2023Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 4-1 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader got the Yankees on the board with a two-run shot off Hunter Greene in the fifth inning, providing all the offense New York would ultimately need in a 4-1 victory. Bader had been struggling after a hot start to the season -- he'd gone 5-for-33 with no extra-base hits in 10 contests prior to Sunday. The 28-year-old outfielder is now slashing .277/.309/.523 with four home runs, 15 RBI and 10 runs scored through 68 plate appearances.
May 19 2023Bader is absent from the Yankees' lineup Friday in Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It would appear to be a routine day off for Bader, who has started 14 of 17 since returning from the injured list. Aaron Hicks is in center field.
May 15 2023Bader is out of the lineup for Monday's contest in Toronto, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader appears to be receiving a routine maintenance day after had started in 11 of the Yankees' 12 games since he returned from the injured list. Aaron Hicks will replace Bader in center field Monday.
May 10 2023Bader went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader opened the scoring Wednesday with a two-out, three-run homer off Kyle Muller. The 28-year-old Bader has been on a tear since rejoining the Yankees from an oblique injury, going 11-for-28 with three home runs and a 1.341 OPS in his first eight games. He's already more than halfway to his total of five homers in 292 at-bats last season. While Bader's current pace isn't sustainable, he does offer some power/speed upside while playing a regular role in a strong New York lineup.
May 7 2023Bader went 3-for-5 with a triple, two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Sunday's 8-7 loss to the Rays in extras. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's two-run home run gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead in the third inning. The outfielder has hit safely in four of five games since making his season debut May 2, including two home runs and seven RBI in 11 plate appearances during a three-game set versus Tampa Bay. Given he's returning from an oblique injury, the Yankees will likely be cautious with him moving forward, so he could be subjected to periodic days off to keep him fresh.
May 6 2023Bader will sit Saturday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader missed the first month of the season with an oblique injury but returned Tuesday to start three consecutive games, going 2-for-11 with a three-run homer. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will get the nod in center field Saturday.
May 5 2023Bader (head) is starting in center field Friday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader won't be forced to miss any games after colliding head-first with Isiah Kiner-Falefa while making a diving catch Wednesday. The 28-year-old outfielder is 1-for-7 at the plate since returning from an oblique injury that caused him to miss the first month of the season.
May 3 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expects Bader to be fine after taking a knee to the head during Wednesday's win against Cleveland, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Boone added that Bader will be put through some tests just to make sure the 28-year-old outfielder is alright, but the concern level is relatively low. If Bader ends up missing some time, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will likely fill in as New York's replacement center fielder.
May 2 2023Bader is starting in center field and batting fifth for the Yankees on Tuesday versus the Guardians in his season debut, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has completed his recovery from a strained oblique and will hope to provide a jolt for an injury-stricken Yankees squad. He went just 3-for-25 at the plate while on his rehab assignment.
May 1 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Bader (oblique) may be activated from the 10-day injured list before Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team had been targeting May 5 for Bader's season debut for a couple weeks now, but the outfielder looks like he has a chance at being ready to go a few days before then. He began a minor-league rehab assignment April 21 and has appeared in seven games between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going just 3-for-25 with one extra-base hit (a double) and one stolen base. However, the Yankees value the 28-year-old mainly for his defensive work in center rather than for his production with the bat, so his poor results in minor-league games won't necessarily be a major factor in when the big club decides to activate him. So long as he's not dealing with any setbacks with his oblique, Bader should settle back into a near-everyday role in the outfield immediately upon his reinstatement.
Apr 3 2023Bader (oblique) took 25 dry swings Monday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yankees manager Aaron Boone said afterward that Bader "was letting it rip and felt great." The center fielder continues to progress well in his recovery from a left oblique strain and should be ready for a rehab assignment before long.
Apr 2 2023Bader (oblique) has been swinging in a pool, and he could begin swinging in a cage and throwing within a week, Bryan Hoch of MLB.comd reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was diagnosed with a strained oblique March 10, and he's likely still multiple weeks away from a return. However, he's beginning to advance in his recovery, and manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that the outfielder's most recent MRI indicated significant improvement, per Pat Ragazzo of SI.com. Bader will likely take over the starting center field job upon his return. In the meantime, the Yankees have started Aaron Judge there twice and Isiah Kiner-Falefa once in their first three contests.
Mar 30 2023The Yankees placed Bader (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, but considering that he didn't play in any Grapefruit League games after March 8 while recovering from a left oblique strain, Bader probably won't be cleared to return from the IL when first eligible April 6. Bader at least seems to be making good progress in his recovery from the injury, as he's expected to resume swinging a bat soon and should steadily incorporate other baseball activities into his training regimen. While Bader is shelved to begin the season, Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Isiah Kiner-Falefa could see more time in center field.
Mar 18 2023Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday that Bader (oblique) is doing "better than we anticipated," Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was diagnosed with an oblique strain last week, and the expectation was that the outfielder would miss approximately six weeks. Based on Boone's comments, it's possible that timeline could be shortened, but it still seems likely Bader will open the year on the injured list. Assuming he continues to recover quickly, it could be a much shorter stay on the IL for the presumed starter in center for the Yankees.
Mar 11 2023Bader's oblique strain is expected to keep him out for approximately six weeks, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was sent for tests Thursday after feeling tightness in his left oblique. The given timeline means Bader is all but a lock to begin the year on the injured list and likely won't make his season debut until late April at the earliest. Aaron Judge or Aaron Hicks could slide to center in his absence.
Mar 10 2023Bader has been diagnosed with a left oblique strain, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not clear at this point what the severity of the strain is, but it's a safe assumption that Bader will begin the season on the injured list and could potential miss multiple weeks. Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks are candidates to slide over to center field while Bader is out, and an out-of-options Estevan Florial could also see playing time there. Additionally, Oswaldo Cabrera has been giving center field a try this spring.
Mar 9 2023Bader was sent for tests Thursday after experiencing discomfort in his left oblique, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader felt something in that area Wednesday, presumably while going 0-for-2 with a strikeout in the Yankees' Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. It's still relatively early into spring camp, and New York has already had some absolutely terrible injury luck. More should be known Friday about the severity of Bader's oblique issue.
Oct 24 2022Bader went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored during Sunday's 6-5 loss in Game 4 of the ALCS. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader finished his outstanding 2022 postseason with his fifth homer, a blast off Hector Neris that put the Yankees up 5-4 at the time. The 28-year-old was one of the few bright spots for the Yankees in the postseason, hitting 10-for-30 with eight runs scored and six RBI. Prior to 2022, Bader had been 3-for-22 with zero extra-base hits across three playoff campaigns, so his effort this postseason is a step forward for the New York native.
Oct 20 2022Bader is starting in center field and hitting leadoff in Game 2 of the ALCS against the Astros on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old is 5-for-19 with four home runs and two walks through six games in the playoffs, and he'll hit atop the order after New York mustered only five hits and two runs during Wednesday's series-opening loss. Bader should benefit from the move and now has some protection with AL MVP-favorite Aaron Judge hitting behind him.
Oct 19 2022Bader went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Game 1 of the ALCS in the 4-2 loss to the Astros on Wednesday night. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader scored the game's first run with a 411-foot shot to left field off Justin Verlander. The native New Yorker is in the midst of a massive power surge during the 2022 postseason. After hitting just five home runs in 292 at bats during the regular season, he already has four home runs in 19 at bats during the postseason. Shockingly, Bader has as many homers in the postseason as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton combined, and he is proving to be a crucial acquisition from the Cardinals at the trade deadline.
Oct 5 2022Bader is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a breather for the regular-season finale after he went 1-for-8 with an RBI and a stolen base while starting in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader. Aaron Hicks will get a turn in center field Wednesday, but Bader should operate as the primary option at the position when the Yankees open postseason play Oct. 11.
Oct 3 2022Bader isn't starting Monday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader started the last four games and went 4-for-16 with two doubles, two RBI and three strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Aaron Hicks starts in center field and bats sixth.
Sep 27 2022Bader is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The defensive specialist is hitting .238 with a double, three runs, six RBI, nine strikeouts and two walks in seven games with the Yankees. Aaron Hicks will enter the lineup in left field with Aaron Judge getting the nod in center field.
Sep 23 2022Bader isn't starting Friday against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a day off after going 4-for-11 with six RBI since making his Yankees debut. Aaron Judge will take over in center field, moving Oswaldo Cabrera to right field and giving Aaron Hicks a start in left, batting ninth.
Sep 21 2022Bader went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI in Tuesday's 9-8 win against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aaron Judge was understandably in the spotlight with his 60th homer of the season, but Bader made a splash as well in his first game as a Yankee. He was activated from the 60-day IL earlier in the day and struck out in his first at-bat but followed with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Bader came through again in the sixth, notching a two-run single to pull the Yankees within a run. He figures to take over as New York's primary center fielder moving forward.
Sep 20 2022Bader (foot) was activated from the 60-day injured list and is starting in center field while hitting seventh Tuesday against the Pirates, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The defensive stalwart will make his long-awaited debut for the Yankees after getting dealt from St. Louis for Jordan Montgomery at the trade deadline. Bader should get plenty of work down the stretch to get acclimated in time for the playoffs, but he may get strategic days off in an effort to keep him healthy. He hit .256/.303/.370 with five home runs and 15 steals in 72 games with the Cardinals.
Sep 18 2022Bader (foot) is tracking toward playing in Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees will have a couple weeks to get their recently acquired outfielder acclimated before the postseason. Bader is hitting .375 with one home run, one steal, three strikeouts and two walks in five rehab games. He should play pretty regularly over the likes of Miguel Andujar and Aaron Hicks.
Sep 12 2022Bader (foot) went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in a rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader saw his first game action since joining the Yankees at the beginning of August. The outfielder has had a lengthy recovery from plantar fasciitis in his right foot, so it's a good sign that he was able to swipe a bag in his first rehab appearance. Bader is expected to ramp back up for about a week before potentially joining the big club.
Sep 9 2022Manager Aaron Boone said Bader (foot) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as early as Sunday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader resumed taking part in baseball activities in late August and is now poised to begin the final stage of his rehab program. The 28-year-old is expected to require about a week's worth of games in the minors before being cleared for big-league action, so he shouldn't be expected to make his debut for the Yankees until at least Sept. 20 versus the Pirates.
Sep 5 2022Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Bader (foot) is on track to begin a rehab assignment no later than Sept. 13, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Sept. 13 is the tentatively target date for Bader to see his first game action since July 22, Boone acknowledged that it's possible the outfielder is cleared to report to an affiliate as soon as this weekend if he responds well to his workouts over the next few days. According to SportsNet New York, Bader will do a "full ramp-up" workout Monday, which presumably involves both baserunning and fielding drills. Even though Bader hadn't appeared in a game for the Cardinals since June 26 while recovering from plantar fasciitis in his right foot before suffering a setback a month later during his rehab assignment, the Yankees were still motivated to acquire him ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline. Whenever he's ready to make his Yankees debut, Bader will likely be penciled in as the team's everyday center fielder, which will allow Aaron Judge to return to his more natural position in right field.
Aug 30 2022Manager Aaron Boone said Bader (foot) began hitting off a tee Tuesday and is in a "10-day ramp up" to start a rehab assignment, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old recently resumed baseball activities and is now ramping up his rehab work in preparation for seeing game action. If the 10-day timeline holds, Bader should be playing in minor-league game by the second week of September and could make his Yankees debut in the middle of the month.
Aug 27 2022Bader (foot) has resumed baseball activities and will begin a running program Saturday, per MLB.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been playing long toss and, according to the Associated Press, has begun swinging a bat. He was recently transferred to the 60-day IL, but that doesn't impact his return timeline since he's nearly eligible to be activated. Bader will likely need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before making his Yankees debut, but he's expected to be ready to play in early-to-mid-September.
Aug 25 2022Bader (foot) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been on the injured list since June 27 and is targeting a September return, so his move to the 60-day IL shouldn't significantly impact his recovery timetable. It's not yet clear when the 28-year-old will be able to begin a rehab assignment, but he'll presumably require some time in the minors to ramp back up following his lengthy absence.
Aug 5 2022Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Bader (foot) is unlikely to make his return from the 10-day injured list until September, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cashman's comments came after the Yankees acquired Bader from the Cardinals shortly before the trade deadline in exchange for starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery. Bader, who is currently confined to a walking boot while he recovers from plantar fasciitis in his right foot, projects as a potential upgrade in the outfield over Aaron Hicks, though Bader won't be a lock to be included in the Yankees' everyday lineup once healthy.
Aug 2 2022Bader (foot) was traded from the Cardinals to the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for Jordan Montgomery, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been on the injured list since late June with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but that didn't prevent the Yankees from bringing him in at the trade deadline. The 28-year-old is expected to be in a walking boot for another week or two, so he's unlikely to be available for his new team until at least late August. When healthy Bader should man center field for New York, which will significantly improve the outfield defense and allow Aaron Judge to stay in right field.
Jul 29 2022Bader (foot) will be in a walking boot for 1-2 weeks, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader is slowing down his rehab after his follow-up appointment Wednesday, and he won't take part in any baseball activities while he's in a walking boot. Although the 28-year-old won't require surgery, it seems likely that he'll be sidelined until at least mid-to-late August.
Jul 27 2022Bader (foot) is expected to be shut down for a matter of weeks, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot since late June, and he had a follow-up appointment Wednesday that confirmed his diagnosis but also revealed he won't require surgery. However, he'll need more time to rest and doesn't yet have a timetable to rejoin the Cardinals.
Jul 23 2022Bader (foot) is unlikely to be activated for next week's series in Toronto, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He came through Friday's rehab game just OK, reporting soreness in his right foot the next day. He was scratched from Saturday's planned appearance, so Bader may have even experienced a slight setback. With the series in Toronto ruled out, the soonest he could return is July 29 in Washington.
Jul 22 2022Bader (foot) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been on the injured list since late June due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, and he progressed to light jogging shortly before the All-Star break. The 28-year-old has now been cleared to return to game action in the minors. Bader should be in the mix to rejoin the Cardinals next week.
Jul 15 2022Bader (foot) confirmed Thursday that he won't return from the 10-day injured list prior to the All-Star break, Jim Hayes of Bally Sports Midwest reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has resumed a running program in recent days, but he'll still need at least another week to recover from plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The Cardinals will likely re-evaluate Bader immediately following the break, at which point he could be ready to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment.
Jul 10 2022Bader (foot) was able to do some light jogging on the field Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll repeat the activity Monday before potentially ramping up his running program if he experiences no renewed soreness in his right heel. Though Bader is already expected to remain out through the All-Star break, whether he returns before the end of August will likely come down to a matter of pain tolerance while he plays through plantar fasciitis.
Jul 9 2022Bader (foot) may not return until after the All-Star break, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader is still managing pain in his right foot due to plantar fasciitis. He's participated in light baseball activities in the last week, but this type of injury can be a tricky one to get under control, especially for a center fielder who relies on his speed to make an impact. Bader will likely need a rehab assignment before he's ready to be activated from the injured list, but there's no concrete plans in place for when that might occur.
Jul 5 2022Bader (foot) is taking part in baseball activities, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While it's good to see Bader up on his feet, he has only taken some swings and gotten in light on-field work, and he is not yet on the verge of a rehab assignment. As such, it does not appear he will come off the injured list when first eligible Thursday.
Jun 27 2022The Cardinals placed Bader on the 10-day injured list Monday due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Bader started all three of games of the Cardinals' weekend series with the Cubs and wasn't forced to exit early at any point, he's been playing through plantar fasciitis in the foot since spring training, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat. Bader doesn't have any imminent plans to have a procedure to current the issue, but it's apparently bothersome enough that he'll have to head to the IL, where he'll join fellow outfielders Tyler O'Neill (hamstring) and Corey Dickerson (calf). The Cardinals called up Conner Capel from Triple-A Memphis to add a healthy body to the outfield, but the trio of Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson and Brendan Donovan could be manager Oliver Marmol's preferred outfield configuration while Bader is on the shelf. The 28-year-old Bader currently ranks tied for sixth in the majors with 15 stolen bases on the season.
Jun 23 2022Bader will sit Thursday against the Brewers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a day off after starting nine straight games, going 9-for-34 with three extra-base hits, two RBI, four runs and a stolen base in those contests. Dylan Carlson will slide over to center field while Lars Nootbaar enters the lineup in right for Thursday's series finale.
Jun 19 2022Bader went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a walk in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had been caught stealing in his last two attempts, but he ended that skid Sunday with his first theft since June 3. The outfielder also extended his hitting streak to six games, a span in which he's gone 9-for-23 (.391). Overall, the everyday center fielder is slashing .271/.315/.391 with 15 steals, five home runs, 21 RBI and 34 runs scored across 65 contests.
Jun 13 2022Bader isn't starting Monday against Pittsburgh, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a breather after he went 0-for-11 with a walk and three strikeouts over the last four games. Dylan Carlson is shifting to center field while Juan Yepez takes over in right.
Jun 12 2022Bader was removed from Saturday's win over the Reds to begin the seventh inning after displaying what Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol described as a lack of hustle, Ben Frederickson of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Dylan Carlson shifted to center field while Juan Yepez took over in right for the final few innings. It's not clear what Bader did to prompt the benching, as he didn't even come to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, but Marmol indicated after the game he'd had a productive talk with the 28-year-old, and that he wouldn't face any further discipline. Expect Bader to be back in the starting nine Sunday for the series finale.
Jun 7 2022Bader went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in Tuesday's 4-2 extra-inning loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the eighth inning. The outfielder has been excellent to begin June, posting multiple hits in five of seven games. The surge has lifted his season slash line to .276/.318/.395 with 14 stolen bases, five home runs, 19 RBI and 30 runs scored through 198 plate appearances. After some early struggles, his speed on the basepaths and steady hitting of late have strengthened his grip on the starting job in center field.
Jun 4 2022Bader isn't starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a breather after he went 4-for-9 with a homer, four runs, two RBI and a stolen base over the first two games of the series. Lars Nootbaar is starting in center field and batting seventh.
Jun 3 2022Bader went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's loss to Chicago. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader scored the Cardinals' first run in the third inning, and he gave the team a murmur of hope with a two-run homer in the ninth frame that halved a four-run deficit. The center fielder has collected at least one hit in nine of his past 10 games, slashing .308/.308/.487 over that stretch. He has been a solid fantasy contributor with five home runs, 17 RBI, 25 runs and 13 stolen bases along with a .256/.301/.378 slash line on the campaign.
May 30 2022Bader is back in the lineup Monday, starting in center field and batting ninth as the Cardinals take on the Padres, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will return to the lineup after missing Sunday's loss to the Brewers with a minor illness. The center fielder has a six-game hitting streak, batting .333 with a homer, four RBI, four runs and two stolen bases over those contests. The hot stretch has raised his batting average from .240 to .255 while his 13 stolen bases are tied for the second most in the league.
May 29 2022Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Bader is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers due to "stuffiness" and cold-like symptoms, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The team hasn't revealed whether Bader has been tested for COVID-19, but at this stage, the Cardinals don't believe his illness is viral in nature. Lars Nootbaar will fill in in center field in place of Bader, who leads the National League with13 stolen bases on the campaign.
May 27 2022Bader went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two steals in Friday's 4-2 win over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader singled and stole second base in both the third and seventh innings. The 27-year-old is up to 13 steals this season, moving him into a tie with Seattle's Julio Rodriguez for the MLB lead. Over his last eight games, Bader is 11-for-29 (.379) with four stolen bases and four runs scored.
May 22 2022Bader went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 18-4 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader sat out Saturday due to lightheadedness, but he was good to go after just a one-game absence. Seven of the 10 Cardinals hitters in the contest recorded multiple hits, but only Bader and Albert Pujols (twice) hit homers. This was Bader's first long ball since May 10. He's up to a .246/.303/.369 slash line with four homers, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 39 games.
May 21 2022Bader was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates due to lightheadedness, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear if Bader is dealing with an illness or if there's another explanation for his lightheadedness, so it's not entirely clear when he'll be back in the lineup. Corey Dickerson enters the lineup in left field, pushing Juan Yepez to right and Dylan Carlson to center.
May 19 2022Bader went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, a run scored and one strikeout during Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader notched his third single of the day to lead off the ninth inning and proceeded to swipe second -- his second steal of the game. The speedster came around to score on an RBI single by Paul Goldschmidt, tying the game at 6-6 and ultimately forcing extra innings. Bader's two stolen bases vaults him into a three-way tie with Julio Rodriguez and Jorge Mateo for the MLB lead.
May 18 2022Bader isn't starting Wednesday against the Mets, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will rest Wednesday after he went 1-for-8 with a stolen base and two strikeouts during Tuesday's doubleheader. Dylan Carlson will shift to center field while Albert Pujols serves as the designated hitter.
May 16 2022Bader went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 15-6 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader wasn't overly impressive in the blowout win, but it's encouraging to see him notch his eighth steal of the season after dealing with heel soreness. The outfielder has yet to be caught stealing this season. He's added a .231/.300/.352 slash line with three home runs, 10 RBI and 18 runs scored in 120 plate appearances.
May 15 2022Bader (heel) is starting in center field and batting eighth Sunday against the Giants, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was held out of the lineup Saturday due to heel soreness, but his absence will be limited to one game. In five games since recording his first three-hit game of the season May 7, the 27-year-old is 2-for-14 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and two runs.
May 14 2022Bader isn't starting Saturday's game against the Giants due to heel soreness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Bader is "totally fine," the team will elect to hold him out for Saturday's day game after the team played a night game Friday. It's possible the 27-year-old will be available off the bench, and the Cardinals don't sound too concerned about his injury.
May 12 2022Bader is not in the lineup Thursday against the Orioles, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will get a rest Thursday after starting 13 games in a row, notching 12 hits in those contests while homering three times and driving in eight runs over 46 at-bats. Dylan Carlson will get the start in center field and bat seventh.
May 10 2022Bader went 1-for-3 with a two-run, inside-the-park home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit the ball to deep left-center field, and he showed off his speed to get all the way around the bases. This was the outfielder's third homer of the season, though he's no stranger to using his speed with seven stolen bases on his stat line. He's added 10 RBI, 16 runs scored and a .242/.318/.379 slash line across 107 plate appearances. With hits in six of nine games in May, he has yet to go on a tear strong enough to justify moving him up from the bottom half of the order.
May 8 2022Bader went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base Saturday in a loss against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader came into the contest hitting just .172 (5-for29) over his previous eight games, but he broke out of the slump with his first three-hit game of the campaign against San Francisco. The speedy outfielder also swiped a bag to give him seven thefts on the campaign. Bader hasn't been caught stealing this season and appears on his way to eclipsing the career-best 15 thefts he collected in 2018.
May 7 2022Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 3-2 win against the Giants on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader got St. Louis on the board with a two-run shot to left in the fifth for his second home run of May after failing to go deep in April. Despite the power surge, the speedy outfielder is 4-for-24 through six May games and has seen his average fall 22 points to .224 over the stretch. Bader will need to pick up the pace if he intends to approach last season's career high of 16 long balls.
May 1 2022Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader put the Cardinals ahead for good with his two-run blast in the seventh inning. This was his first extra-base hit in the last four games. The outfielder is slashing .246/.338/.354 with a homer, six stolen bases, four RBI and 11 runs scored through 74 plate appearances this season.
Apr 30 2022Bader went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader now leads the National League with six steals this season, one ahead of teammate Tommy Edman. Bader has gone 7-for-20 (.350) across his last seven games, added a double, three walks and four runs scored in that span. For the season, the center fielder is slashing .246/.343/.311 through 20 contests.
Apr 23 2022Bader went 0-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and three stolen bases in Saturday's win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He helped manufacture runs in multiple innings. After a successful theft his first time on base, Bader decided to take second and third when he reached a second time. The outfielder has gone six games without an extra-base hit and has a .195/.298/.268 slash line early on, so expect to have to sacrifice in the other hitting categories if you want to chase these steals.
Apr 22 2022Bader isn't starting Friday against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had started every game for the Cardinals this year, but he'll get a breather after going 1-for-11 with two walks and five strikeouts in his last four appearances. Lars Nootbaar will start in center field and bat seventh.
Apr 15 2022Bader went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in a 10-1 win Friday in Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In the four-run first inning, Bader singled in two runs, stole a base and came around to score. He added another single in the seventh. Moving up to sixth in the lineup, the 27-year-old recorded his first stolen base and RBI of the season.
Apr 2 2022Bader signed a two-year, $10.4 million contract with the Cardinals on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader and the Cardinals were unable to settle on an agreement prior to the arbitration deadline this spring, but he'll now land a deal that covers his final two years of arbitration. The 27-year-old has slashed .348/.375/.435 with two doubles, six RBI, a run, a stolen base, a walk and five strikeouts across eight Grapefruit League appearances this spring. Although the Cardinals added Corey Dickerson during the offseason, Bader is expected to see plenty of playing time to begin the 2022 campaign.
Oct 2 2021Bader went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader led off the first inning with a solo home run off Adrian Sampson. In addition, he scored in the seventh frame. After hitting three bombs last weekend, Bader added his first long ball of October. The 27-year-old is slashing .266/.322/.460 with 16 home runs, 50 RBI and 45 runs with one game left this season.
Sep 30 2021Bader will be on the bench Thursday against Milwaukee, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader doesn't sit often, as he'll be on the bench here for just the second time since the start of July. The Cardinals have given several regulars a rest since they clinched a playoff spot Tuesday, so Bader will get his turn here, with Dylan Carlson sliding to center and Jose Rondon starting in right field.
Sep 26 2021Bader went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit a solo home run off Rowan Wick in the eighth inning to tie the game. He has homered in three games in a row and he has scored 10 runs in his last six games. The outfielder is slashing .270/.328/.466 with 15 homers, 49 RBI and 42 runs scored in 381 plate appearances this season.
Sep 25 2021Bader went 5-for-8 with a solo home run, two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in Friday's doubleheader against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had an excellent day at the plate Friday, as he totaled two hits in the first game and another three in the second of Friday's twin bill. He had a double in each contest but his biggest hit came in his final at-bat of the day when he hit a solo home run in the seventh off Adam Morgan. Bader now has nine hits over his last four games and has upped his slash line to .262/.322/.441 with 13 homers, 46 RBI, 38 runs scored, six steals and 27:78 BB:K over 373 plate appearances.
Sep 22 2021Bader went 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's three hits in Milwaukee were impressive, but it's what he did on the basepaths that had jaws dropping. The speedy outfielder pushed the issue in the second inning, tagging up and scoring from second base on a sac fly. It was the quintessential Cardinals play, the type of which have defined their hot streak. Bader will look to keep the energy coming as St. Louis goes for win No. 12 in a row against Milwaukee on Thursday.
Sep 15 2021Bader went 2-for-5 with a single, a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's 11-4 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader plated two runs with a bloop single in the first inning before socking his 12th home run of the year off Tylor Megill in the fourth. After hitting a woeful .152 with zero homers in August, the outfielder is batting .308 in September with three long balls.
Sep 14 2021Bader went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI in Monday's 7-0 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader produced only three hits combined in the Cardinals' past seven games, but he tied Yadier Molina for the team lead in the category Monday. After the quality day at the dish, Bader upped his average to a respectable .262 since the All-Star break, but he isn't supplementing it with much in the way of counting stats. He's recorded five home runs, one stolen base, 22 RBI and 18 runs in 53 second-half games.
Sep 6 2021Bader went 2-for-5 with a two-run double in a loss to the Brewers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's 12th two-bagger of the season snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning and pushed his RBI total over the three-game set against the Brewers to five. The 27-year-old also has a trio of multi-hit efforts over the first five games of September, pushing his season slash line to a serviceable .251/.314/.422 across 76 contests.
Sep 4 2021Bader went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 15-4 rout of Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader launched one of six Cardinals homers in the contest -- his third-inning three-run shot gave the team an early 8-0 lead. He also collected a pair of singles to finish with his second three-hit performance in his past three games. Bader has gone 6-for-11 with a pair of long balls and four RBI over that stretch.
Sep 1 2021Bader went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-4 win over the Reds during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Wade Miley deep in the second inning, one of three homers the Cards launched off the veteran southpaw. Bader hadn't had a multi-hit performance since Aug. 14 and hadn't gone yard since July 29, snapping a 29-game homerless drought. After going 0-for-2 in the nightcap he's batting .244 on the year with 10 home runs, six steals, 28 runs and 32 RBI through 73 contests.
Aug 30 2021Bader went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday in the Cardinals' 4-3 loss to the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hitless games have become the new norm in the second half for Bader, who has submitted a wretched .147/.229/.179 slash line in August while striking out at a 27.6 percent clip. Bader's stellar defense in center field may be the only thing keeping him in the everyday lineup over the hot-hitting Lars Nootbaar, who has been forced to settle for a fourth-outfielder role since Dylan Carlson returned from the injured list Aug. 24.
Aug 15 2021Bader went 2-for-4 with a run scored Saturday in the Cardinals' 9-4 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since turning in back-to-back three-hit efforts against Cleveland on July 25 and 27, Bader hadn't recorded a multi-hit game in any of his subsequent 14 starts before Saturday. Bader has provided a measly .490 OPS thus far in August, but his standing as the Cardinals' everyday center fielder doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy.
Jul 28 2021Bader went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His third-inning blast was the only run the Cards managed off Cal Quantrill through six innings, and Bader then gave the team an insurance run in the ninth by doubling, stealing third and trotting home on a bases-loaded walk. The 27-year-old remains one of the hottest hitters in baseball, slashing .384/.438/.685 since the beginning of July with five homers, three steals, 12 runs and 16 RBI through 20 games.
Jul 25 2021Bader went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 10-6 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder recorded his sixth multi-hit effort in his last 10 games, and homered for the second time in three contests. Bader is now 16-for-35 (.457) since the All-Star break, boosting his season slash line to .289/.358/.507 across 159 plate appearances. He's added eight long balls, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored and five stolen bases.
Jul 24 2021Bader went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He tied the game up at 2-2 by turning around a second-inning fastball from Tyler Mahle. Bader has been piling up hits since the All-Star break, batting .444 (12-for-27) over his last eight games, but Friday's blast was his first since July 4 and his seventh of the season.
Jul 21 2021Bader went 3-for-4 with a double, run, RBI and strikeout in a 3-2 win against the Cubs on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader singled in the third and fifth before lacing an RBI-double and scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh. The outing marks the outfielder's third consecutive multi-hit performance and fourth in his last seven games, a stretch that's seen him go 12-for-24 and raise his average from .234 to .276.
Jul 17 2021Bader went 2-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the Giants on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader authored one of three multi-hit efforts for the Cardinals on a relatively quiet night for St. Louis' offense. The defensively proficient outfielder has started July off well with the bat, generating a .333/.405/.576 slash line with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, three walks, two steals and four runs across 37 plate appearances (nine games).
Jul 10 2021Bader went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader singled and stole second in the fourth inning. He got aboard with another single in the fifth and scored on a Paul DeJong home run. Bader has seen regular playing time in July, going 9-for-34 (.265) with two home runs, seven RBI, four runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in his last nine games. The outfielder is slashing just .234/.308/.439 with seven long balls, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored and five steals through 120 plate appearances overall.
Jul 5 2021Bader went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader put the Cardinals out in front early with a two-run blast to left in the second inning. The 27-year-old already has two home runs and six RBI in four games since returning from the injured list July 1. For the year he's slashing .225/.300/.449 with six homers, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, four steals and a 10:17 BB:K over 100 plate appearances.
Jul 3 2021Bader went 1-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam in Friday's 9-3 extra-inning win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his second game off the IL, Bader took Yency Almonte deep in the 10th inning to put a button on a late Cards rally after they headed into the ninth down by a run. The outfielder missed over a month with a rib injury, and on the season he's slashing a poor .210/.293/.420 with five homers, three steals, nine runs and 13 RBI through 24 games.
Jul 1 2021Bader (ribs) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader landed on the 10-day injured list with a right rib hairline fracture in late May but appeared in four games during his recent rehab assignment. He'll now return to action after his absence of just over a month, and he should immediately take over as the primary center fielder going forward. Lars Nootbaar was optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.
Jun 30 2021Manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that he expects Bader (ribs) to be activated from the 10-day injured list and play Thursday in Colorado, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported earlier Thursday that Bader may be able to return during the road trip and it now looks like the outfielder will be activated when the trip begins at Coors Field on Thursday. Bader has been on the injured list since suffering a right rib hairline fracture in late May and has been on a rehab assignment since last Friday.
Jun 28 2021Bader (ribs) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader appeared in three games with Low-A Palm Beach recently, and he'll face increased competition in the near future before he's cleared to return to the majors. The Cardinals are hopeful that the center fielder will be reinstated from the injured list in the near future, but it's not yet clear how many appearances he'll make with the Triple-A club.
Jun 26 2021Bader (ribs) started in center field and went 1-for-3 in Low-A Palm Beach's win over Fort Myers on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader played five innings before being subbed out, but the fact he got three plate appearances serves as a good foundation for the beginning of his rehab assignment. The 27-year-old has been sidelined since May 25, so he could spend a good portion of the coming week playing in rehab games at different affiliates before activation is deemed appropriate.
Jun 25 2021Bader (ribs) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Palm Beach on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been on the injured list since late May with a hairline fracture along his right ribcage. He resumed baseball activity in mid-June and has now progressed to the point where he feels ready to play in a live game. It's not entirely clear how many games Bader plans to get under his belt in the minors, but a return to the Cardinals within the next week does not seem out of the question.
Jun 24 2021Bader (ribs) is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been recovering in Florida recently, and he's been taking at-bats and playing center field. Manager Mike Shildt said that the 27-year-old will likely report to a low-level affiliate to begin his rehab stint, so he could require a fairly lengthy assignment since he's been sidelined since May 25. If all goes well, he could return to the Cardinals sometime in early July.
Jun 22 2021Bader (ribs) is easing back into things at the Cardinals' facility in Jupiter, Florida, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Mike Shildt said Jupiter will be a more controlled setting for Bader to take at-bats once he's ready to do so. To this point, the center fielder has done nothing but light work since going on the injured list May 25, so he likely remains a few weeks from returning to the Cardinals.
Jun 15 2021Bader (ribs) did some minimal baseball activity on the field Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The center fielder was seen scooping some grounders with assistant coach Willie McGee and a trainer. While this does suggest progress in his recovery, Bader will still require more time before beginning a rehab assignment and ultimately returning to the Cardinals.
Jun 8 2021Manager Mike Shildt said Tuesday that Bader (ribs) is still resting and will be sidelined "a little bit longer than we anticipated," Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old landed on the injured list with a right rib hairline fracture May 25 and had been taking part in light baseball activities, but Shildt said the outfielder has been unable to "get over the hump" in his recovery. Bader is already eligible to be activated but figures to be sidelined for at least another week or two.
Jun 5 2021Bader (ribs) was seen wearing a fielder's glove and doing light throwing before Friday's game against the Reds, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The recovering outfielder has seemingly been on an upswing physically, as he also was spotted doing some throwing and taking swings earlier in the week. Bader is eligible for activation beginning Saturday, and although he seems virtually certain to remain on the injured list past that date, an early week return doesn't seem unrealistic given recent news.
Jun 2 2021Bader (ribs) has started some light throwing and swinging a bat, the team's official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The relatively quick return to some type of physical activity is encouraging for Bader, who just went on the injured list May 25. Nevertheless, manager Mike Shildt remains unsure of whether Bader will be healthy enough to be activated when first eligible Saturday, but there is optimism his time on the shelf won't extend much further that under any circumstance.
May 25 2021Bader was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right rib hairline fracture, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the team's initial optimism, Bader's rib is indeed fractured. It's unclear how much time the 26-year-old, who has gone 1-for-20 in his last six games, will miss. John Nogowski was recalled to fill Bader's roster spot.
May 24 2021Bader left Monday's game against the White Sox with an apparent rib injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader suffered the injury on a diving play in the outfield, and he was forced to exit immediately after. Dylan Carlson moved to center field and Justin Williams entered the game in left to replace the injured Bader.
May 16 2021Bader went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to San Diego on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader went deep to left field in the seventh inning, though the long ball still left St. Louis seven runs off the lead. The outfielder is slashing a solid .280/.351/.540 with four homers and nine RBI across 57 plate appearances on the season.
May 7 2021Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the 5-0 win over the Rockies on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit his third home run of the season off Austin Gomber in the second inning. He has played in just eight games this season and he's homered in three of them. In addition, he has eight RBI, four runs and a pair of steals. The 27-year-old is always a threat for double-digit home runs and steals.
May 3 2021Bader went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After launching his first homer of the year Sunday, Bader went yard again in the second inning Monday off Joey Lucchesi. The 26-year-old is just 3-for-14 over four games since rejoining the lineup, but Bader's power surge is encouraging.
May 2 2021Bader went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader drove in a run in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh, and he provided the only run production of Sunday's contest with his three-run blast in the second inning. Through his first three appearances since returning from a forearm injury, Bader has gone 2-for-11 with four RBI and a stolen base.
May 1 2021Bader (forearm) went 1-for-4 in his season debut against the Pirates on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader made his long-awaited 2021 regular-season debut after an extended stay on the IL due to a forearm injury. The 26-year-old stepped back into his starting center field role, where he'll look to remain a mainstay moving forward with the help of his stellar glove work.
Apr 29 2021Bader (forearm) was activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has been sidelined since March 24 with a forearm issue. However, he'll presumably make his first start of the 2021 season Friday against the Pirates. Bader's return will once again crowd the Cardinals' outfield and will likely cost Tyler O'Neill or Justin Williams playing time.
Apr 25 2021Bader (forearm) is at full speed and could rejoin the team in the next 7-to-10 days if his progress continues as planned, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was cleared for live batting practice earlier in the week and appears to have responded well to that increase in workload. Assuming that continues, he should be set to return sometime during the team's homestand against the Mets and Rockies that begins May 3.
Apr 19 2021Bader (forearm) has been cleared to take part in live batting practice, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has also been throwing from 120 feet recently as he continues to work his way back from a forearm injury. The 26-year-old hasn't yet been cleared to participate in all baseball activities but is trending in the right direction after dealing with a setback in late March. However, a timetable for his return to game action hasn't yet been announced. Dylan Carlson should continue to handle most of the starts in center field while Bader is sidelined.
Apr 16 2021Bader (forearm) continues to make progress but is still 10-to-14 days from being fully cleared to participate in all baseball activities, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was originally expected to miss four weeks when he suffered a setback with his forearm in late March. He hasn't reportedly been dealing with any further setbacks, but he's behind that original timeline, as it will be roughly five weeks from the start of that timeframe when he's cleared for all baseball activities, let alone cleared to return to game action. Dylan Carlson has handled most of the starts in center in his absence.
Apr 12 2021Bader (forearm) has been participating in light baseball activities but hasn't yet been cleared to swing as of Monday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was expected to miss at least four weeks after he suffered a left forearm strain in late March. He doesn't yet have a timetable for his return, but the 26-year-old isn't necessarily behind schedule in his recovery. Bader has been running the bases and doing work with one arm, but the team appears to be bringing him along slowly to prevent another flare-up. Lane Thomas and Dylan Carlson should continue to fill in as the center fielder in Bader's absence while Justin Williams and Austin Dean see additional playing time in the outfield.
Mar 28 2021The Cardinals placed Bader (forearm) on the 10-day injured list Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's move to the IL was a foregone conclusion after manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that the 26-year-old would be sidelined at least four weeks due to a left forearm strain. While Bader is on the mend, Dylan Carlson is expected to serve as the Cardinals' everyday center fielder.
Mar 24 2021Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that Bader has suffered a "flare up" with his forearm and will miss at least four weeks, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had been appearing in Grapefruit League games over the past two weeks after dealing with a forearm issue earlier this spring. However, he'll receive a PRP injection Wednesday and will begin the regular season on the injured list as a result of his setback. In his absence, Dylan Carlson could shift to center field, while Lane Thomas and Justin Williams could see extra playing time for the Cardinals over the first few weeks of the regular season.
Mar 11 2021Bader (forearm) went 0-for-3 in a Grapefruit League loss to the Nationals on Wednesday, his first game action since March 2. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old got Grapefruit League play off to a strong start with an RBI double over two at-bats back on Feb. 28, but he'd played in just one other exhibition before Wednesday due to forearm soreness. Bader should be available without restrictions moving forward after playing a full game Wednesday.
Mar 10 2021Bader (forearm) is starting Wednesday's spring game against the Nationals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was initially scheduled to return to the lineup Tuesday, but the team gave him an extra day of rest while he dealt with a sore right forearm. He'll hit ninth and play center field against Washington on Wednesday, and he should have plenty of time to prepare for Opening Day.
Mar 9 2021Bader (forearm) isn't included in the lineup for Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Cardinals had previously intimated that Bader would make his return to the lineup Tuesday after missing the last few days with a sore right forearm, but the team evidently decided the outfielder could benefit from some additional rest. The injury is still considered minor, so Bader's availability for Opening Day isn't yet in question.
Mar 7 2021Manager Mike Shildt said Bader has "a little barking" in his right forearm, though initial medical imaging came back clean, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Shildt indicated the 26-year-old would likely play through the injury were it the regular season, but the team will remain cautious early in spring training. It appears to be a minor injury, so Bader could return to game action after taking it easy for a few days.
Feb 27 2021Bader, whose work at the plate will be scrutinized this spring after back-to-back subpar seasons, laced long drives off Ryan Helsley and Kwang Hyun Kim during batting practice Friday, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's just an early spring training batting practice, but seeing Bader get good wood on the ball off two quality arms certainly had to please manager Mike Shildt, who has the 26-year-old penciled in as his starting center fielder largely based on his strong defense. Bader has hit just ..205 and .226 over the last two seasons following an encouraging .264/.334/.422 line back in 2018, and he'll likely be given plenty of Grapefruit League at-bats to get his timing down ahead of what all parties hope is a resurgent season with the bat.
Feb 15 2021Bader is the only outfield candidate who's been labeled a starter by the Cardinals organization ahead of spring training, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Goold relayed this nugget about the apparent job security in response to a reader question about Tyler O'Neill's chances of locking down the starting left field job ahead of the regular season, noting Bader is the only outfielder the team is clearly labeling as a starter at the moment. Bader's defense is primarily his saving grace, as following a promising 2018 at the plate, the 26-year-old has hit just .205 and .226 over the last two seasons. Bader's strikeout rate also concerningly rose to a career-high 32.0 percent during the abbreviated 2020 campaign, but it appears the Cardinals are prepared to give his bat a chance to catch up with his glove, at least to begin the 2021 season.
Jan 15 2021Bader signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Cardinals on Friday to avoid arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old receives a couple million in his first year of arbitration eligibility after posting a .779 OPS in 125 plate appearances in 2020. Bader should begin spring training as the favorite to start to start in center field for St. Louis.
Sep 27 2020Bader went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a triple in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit a leadoff triple in the third inning and scored on a Kolten Wong single. In the fourth, Bader provided the Cardinals' last run of the game with a solo shot. The outfielder has a .226/.336/.443 slash line with four homers, 11 RBI, 21 runs scored and three stolen bases in 50 games.
Sep 23 2020Bader went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's loss against Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader plated two runs with a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning, but his two-hit performance wasn't enough to spark the Cardinals offensively in the final game of the I-70 series against the Royals. Bader has only hit .210 this season and ended a four-game hitless streak with this performance, so it's clear he's been struggling at the plate all season long. In fact, this was just his fourth multi-hit performance of the campaign.
Sep 20 2020Bader is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader, who is slashing .213/.309/.340 in September, will cede his spot in the outfield to Dylan Carlson. With Carlson making his third straight start Sunday, it's possible he cuts further into Bader's playing time over the final week of the regular season.
Sep 18 2020Bader isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader went 1-for-2 with a walk and one strikeout during the first game of the doubleheader, but he'll get a breather for Game 2. Dylan Carlson will start in center field.
Sep 14 2020Bader isn't starting Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against Milwaukee, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will take a seat after going 1-for-3 with a strikeout in the first game of the day. The Cardinals will roll with Lane Thomas in center field.
Sep 12 2020Bader went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader had the biggest of the Cardinals' three home run that put the game firmly in their control in the sixth inning. He has three home runs, seven RBI, 13 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 82 plate appearances.
Sep 11 2020Bader is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader sits after starting seven straight games. Lane Thomas gets the start in center field in his absence.
Sep 6 2020Bader went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of doubles in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Cubs. He was also hit by a pitch. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader hit a double in the sixth inning and scored on a Paul DeJong single. It was an unusually productive game for Bader, who snapped an 0-for-10 skid at the plate with the three-hit effort. He now has two homers, 10 runs scored, four RBI and two stolen bases across 62 plate appearances.
Aug 31 2020Bader isn't in Monday's lineup against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will take a seat for the third time in the past four games but should be available off the bench once again. Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson and Dexter Fowler will start in the outfield from left to right.
Aug 30 2020Bader is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday and will return to the bench for the series finale. Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson and Dexter Fowler will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday.
Aug 28 2020Bader is not in the lineup Friday against the Indians, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was 0-for-2 during Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader after missing the previous two games with a migraine, and he'll return to the bench Friday. Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson and Dexter Fowler will start in the outfield from left to right.
Aug 27 2020Bader (head) is starting in center field and hitting ninth in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader is back in the starting lineup after a migraine limited him to a reserve role the past two games. The outfielder is 6-for-13 with two home runs, three doubles and a stolen base over his past five appearances.
Aug 26 2020Bader is absent from Wednesday's lineup against the Royals after experiencing a migraine, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old apparently began experiencing the migraine Tuesday night, which also resulted in some vomiting. Bader will be available off the bench, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com, so it doesn't appear to be a serious concern.
Aug 23 2020Bader went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a two-run home run Sunday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the second game in a row, Bader delivered multiple extra-base hits. He took Tyler Mahle deep in the second inning to homer in back-to-back contests -- his only two long balls this season. After a very slow start at the dish, Bader was a key contributor to the Cardinals' offense to close their series against the Reds, totalling two doubles, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in two contests. For the season, he's now hitting .233/.361/.533 across 36 plate appearances.
Aug 22 2020Bader went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a double in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader got aboard with a double in the third inning and later scored on a Tommy Edman single. In the fifth, Bader launched his first homer of the year off Reds starter Wade Miley. The 26-year-old Bader had been held without a hit in the last three games. He's batting .185 with just one homer, one RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base across 32 plate appearances.
Aug 20 2020Bader is not starting Thursday against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader has appeared in seven games for the Cardinals in August, going 2-for-11 with a 2:2 BB:K in those contests. Dylan Carlson is covering center field in his place Thursday, with Tyler O'Neill getting the start in left field.
Aug 19 2020Bader is not in the lineup for the afternoon portion of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was expected to sit Tuesday before Tyler O'Neill was scratched with a finger issue, pushing Dylan Carlson to left and Bader back into the lineup in center. Bader will now sit Wednesday afternoon instead, with O'Neill in left and Carlson in center, but there's a good chance Bader returns for the nightcap.
Aug 18 2020Bader will start in center field and bat ninth Tuesday against the Cubs, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was originally stationed on the bench for Tuesday's contest, but he'll take he place of Tyler O'Neill (undisclosed), who was a late scratch. Bader is 3-for-17 with three runs and a stolen base in nine games this season.
Aug 17 2020Bader isn't in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader wasn't in the lineup for the series finale against the Pirates on Sunday, and he'll once again take a seat with right-hander Kyle Hendricks starting in the first game of the twin bill. While Bader shouldn't be in a platoon situation, the Cardinals' depth in the outfield gives the team more flexibility with the lineup card against righties. Dylan Carlson is starting in center field for Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Jul 26 2020Bader is not in Sunday's lineup against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is 2-for-5 with three strikeouts, one walk, two hit-by-pitches, two runs and one stolen base through two games this season. Bader will inevitably take a seat against the occassional righty this year, which is the case in this one against Mitch Keller. Lane Thomas will start in center field and hit ninth.
Jul 21 2020Bader will seemingly open the season as the starting center fielder as per manager Mike Shildt's comments following Sunday's intrasquad game, Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the 26-year-old hasn't exactly lit it up with his bat during summer camp -- he's 4-for-15 with two strikeouts and one walk -- Bader will get his chance early to prove last season's lackluster .205/.314/.366 line was an outlier. Bader provided similarly sluggish results before spring training was suspended with a .229 average over 12 exhibitions; considering the promising Lane Thomas, and eventually, Dylan Carlson, will be looming behind him as competition, Bader may consequently have to produce early and often to keep a hold of an everyday spot.
Jul 11 2020Bader went 2-for-2 in the Cardinals' intrasquad game Saturday night, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was responsible for all of his side's hits during the three-inning contest, singling in the opening inning and adding a two-out double in the final frame. The success at the plate is key for Bader, who is looking to strengthen his grip on an everyday role during summer camp and build some momentum with the bat after hitting just .229 (8-for-35) in 12 Grapefruit League games this spring.
Jul 5 2020Bader is a candidate to see time at designated hitter out of the bottom of the order in 2020, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Mike Shildt is looking at a relatively crowded outfield with Opening Day less than three weeks away, and shifting Bader out of the mix could be one of the ways to lighten the field of candidates. Bader -- who has double-digit home runs and stolen bases in each of the last two seasons -- could offer a solid mix of power and speed out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup, and he went 7-for-14 with a home run while serving as the DH in four interleague contests against the Rangers and Mariners last season. Moving Bader to DH would also potentially afford the promising Lane Thomas an everyday job in center field, while Hummel notes a Bader-Kolten Wong combination at the turn of the order could be especially effective.
Jun 15 2020Bader could lose his grip on the starting center field job if he doesn't demonstrate improvement as a hitter during the abbreviated 2020 season, Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortened upcoming campaign should still offer a decent-enough sample size with which to evaluate Bader's offensive progress. The 26-year-old appeared to be ascending as a hitter when he generated a .264/.334/.422 line over 138 games in 2018, but he regressed badly while limping to a .205/.314/.366 slash last season. If Bader isn't able to significantly improve on those numbers following this year's lackluster spring training, Gordon envisions him potentially transitioning to much more of a late-game defensive replacement and occasional starter in future seasons. The promising Lane Thomas, who slashed .316/.409/.684 over 44 plate appearances in his first big-league cup of coffee in 2019, looms behind Bader on the depth chart.
Mar 22 2020Bader, who hit .229 (8-for-35) across 12 Grapefruit League games during spring training, is likely to keep his starting center field job to open the season, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rogers adds that the one exception could be if another outfielder "forces the issue." If other candidates were being evaluated solely from an offensive perspective, it wouldn't be difficult to find more productive alternatives as both Lane Thomas and Dylan Carlson had much better springs at the plate. Nevertheless, Bader's defense is key to likely keeping him in the lineup on a near-everyday basis, but he'll need to improve on the unsightly .205/.314/.366 line and 28.8 percent strikeout rate he generated last season to remain a fixture in the starting lineup throughout the 2020 campaign.
Oct 9 2019Bader is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 5 of the Cardinals' NLDS matchup with the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Benched for the third game in a row, Bader appears to have lost his spot in the Cardinals' regular lineup to Matt Carpenter. Given that Bader is batting just .190 with a 37.5 percent strikeout rate since the beginning of September, his move into a reserve role doesn't come as a major shock.
Oct 7 2019Bader remains on the bench for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Braves on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader is a strong defensive option but hit just .205/.314/.366 on the season. The Cardinals will prioritize offense after scoring a combined one run over their last two games. Dexter Fowler slides to center field, with Tommy Edman moving out to right.
Oct 6 2019Bader is out of the lineup for Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves on Sunday, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in the series opener, but he went hitless with three strikeouts in Game 2. Dexter Fowler will start in center field Sunday while Tommy Edman moves out to right field.
Sep 29 2019Bader went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs overall in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's fifth-inning solo blast put the Cardinals on the scoreboard for the first time on the night. The 25-year-old has reached safely in four of his last five games, leaving the yard twice over that stretch. However, even with that recent surge, Bader is still hitting just .200 in September heading into the last day of the regular season.
Sep 25 2019Bader is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader will head to the bench for Wednesday's series finale as the Cardinals rest most of their regular starters following Tuesday's 19-inning loss. Randy Arozarena is starting in center field in place of Bader, who went 2-for-8 with two strikeouts in Tuesday's loss.
Sep 20 2019Bader went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring single, an RBI double and a walk in an extra-inning win over the Cubs on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader came through with clutch hits on a pair of occasions, pushing his September RBI total to a solid 11 across 18 games. The outfielder continues to have trouble making consistent contact, however, with his 25 strikeouts -- including at least one in each of his last 10 games -- helping lead to a pedestrian .233 average over 68 plate appearances during the month.
Sep 18 2019Bader is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Since his big two-homer game against the Brewers on Sunday, Bader has recorded just one hit while striking out five times in the first two games of the series with Washington, though he at least chipped in a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-2 loss. Bader looks poised to see regular run as St. Louis' top center fielder down the stretch, but he'll get a breather for the day game after night game.
Sep 16 2019Bader went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in a loss to the Brewers on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader opened the scoring on the afternoon with his first round tripper and then extended the Cardinals' lead to 4-2 with his seventh-inning blast. The outfielder has gone deep thrice in the last four contests after a 16-game homer drought, and he's crossed the plate on six occasions overall during that stretch as well. Bader's September average still sits at an uninspired .234, but he's certainly showing signs of a resurgence with his recent power display.
Sep 13 2019Bader went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs overall in a win over the Rockies on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader's impressive 450-foot blast to left in the fourth inning answered a Nolan Arenado round tripper in the home half of the third and extended the Cardinals' lead to 6-3. The 25-year-old hadn't left the yard since Aug. 24 prior to Thursday, a homer that coincidentally had also come against the Rockies, albeit at Busch Stadium. Despite having just eight hits thus far in September -- including a modest two for extra bases -- Bader has managed to knock in seven runs with some timely knocks.
Sep 8 2019Bader went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single, an RBI double, a walk and a stolen base in a win over the Pirates on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader was highly productive out of the latter portion of the No. 8 spot in the order, with his well-balanced effort snapping a 1-for-16 slump that had encompassed his previous five games. The 25-year-old looked rejuvenated at the plate after his return from Triple-A Memphis in late August, and perhaps Saturday's resurgent effort will snap him out of the brief doldrums he'd been in.
Sep 5 2019Bader is not in Thursday's lineup against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bader should start against all lefties and some righties down the stretch, but he'll head to the bench in this one against righty Logan Webb. Randy Arozarena will start in center field and hit eighth.
Sep 2 2019Bader went 2-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring singles during the first game of a doubleheader against the Reds on Sunday.
Aug 31 2019Bader is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds.
Aug 28 2019Bader went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in win over the Brewers on Tuesday.
Aug 27 2019Bader went 2-for-5 with a two-run ground-rule double and a run in a win over the Brewers on Monday.
Aug 24 2019Bader went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Rockies.
Aug 21 2019Bader went 1-for-1 with a triple, a bases-loaded walk, two other base on balls and two runs in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday.
Aug 20 2019Bader was recalled from Triple-A Memphis prior to Tuesday's game against the Brewers.
Aug 19 2019Bader, who went 3-for-6 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs overall in Triple-A Memphis' win over Iowa on Sunday, is hitting .375 (15-for-40) over his

Jul 22 2018Bader is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs. The Cardinals have continued to hand steady starts in the outfield to Dexter Fowler, which has resulted in Bader's playing time taking a slight hit of late. Bader has remained productive in the decreased role and maintains a .279 average to go with six home runs and nine steals in 212 plate appearances this season, so he might be worth holding on to if the Cardinals decide to make a full commitment to him later in the second half.
Jul 21 2018Bader went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs during a win over the Cubs in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday. He's 3-for-6 with a double in three games since missing the second-half opener last Thursday with a hyperextended right knee.Bader's start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader was his first of the season's second half, as he'd come off the bench the previous two games. The promising outfielder continues to enjoy a resurgent July after a lackluster June, as he's now hitting .360 during the current month, and he's raised his season average 18 points to .279 since July 4.
Jul 21 2018Bader (knee) will return to the lineup for the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs.Bader missed three straight starts after hyperextending his knee in the final game before the All-Star break, though he appeared off the bench in the last two games. He'll start in place of Dexter Fowler on Saturday.
Jul 21 2018Bader is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Bader will sit out a third straight game after suffering a hyperextended knee Sunday against the Reds. Dexter Fowler will man right field and bat seventh during Saturday's first contest. Consider Bader day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 20 2018Bader (knee) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Bader was held out of Thursday's lineup as well from the hyperextended knee he sustained against the Reds on Sunday. The severity of the issue remains unclear at this point, but the Cardinals could simply be taking advantage of the All-Star break to give the 24-year-old a couple extra days to recover. Dexter Fowler will bat seventh and start in right field for St. Louis.
Jul 19 2018Bader (knee) is not in Thursday's starting lineup against the Cubs, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Bader suffered a hyperextended knee Sunday against the Reds, and although the Cardinals were hopeful he'd manage to play following the All-Star break, he doesn't appear to have returned to health just yet. Dexter Fowler is set to bat seventh and take over in right field with Bader on the bench.
Jul 15 2018Bader (hamstring) will start in center field and bat eighth Sunday against the Reds.Bader will check into the lineup for the struggling Tommy Pham after the hamstring injury limited him to a bench role for the first two games of the series. While it appeared Bader usurped Dexter Fowler for primary duties in right field earlier this month, that may no longer be the case with Fowler showing some signs of life with a pair of two-hit performances over his last three starts. It seems most likely that the Cardinals will rotate Bader, Fowler and Tommy Pham between two outfield spots in most games, with Marcell Ozuna assured a full-time gig in left field.
Jul 15 2018Bader was removed from Sunday's game against the Reds in the bottom of the second inning with an apparent ankle injury, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Bader appeared to tweak the ankle while rounding first base on a would-be double, forcing him to settle for a single. He looked to be in significant pain upon suffering the injury, but was able to go through some tests on the field before ultimately bowing out of the contest. Bader will now have until Thursday to recuperate as the Cardinals head into the All-Star break. Tommy Pham came on to pinch run for Bader following his departure.
Jul 15 2018Bader was removed from the Cardinals' game Sunday against the Reds with a mild left knee hyperextension. The fact that the Cardinals are labeling the injury as "mild" implies that Bader avoided a serious setback after he was pulled in the bottom of the second inning when he tweaked his knee while rounding first base. Tommy Pham ended up replacing Bader, who will have three full days to recover before the Cardinals open their second-half schedule Thursday against the Cubs.
Jul 14 2018Bader (hamstring) is not in Saturday's starting lineup against the Reds.Bader managed to pinch hit Friday, but he'll be held out of Saturday's tilt, likely as a precaution. There's a good chance manager Mike Matheny will shut Bader down until after the All-Star break to ensure he's healthy for the second half of the season.
Jul 13 2018Bader has been out of the lineup due to a right hamstring injury, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.Bader hasn't taken the field for four of the last five games, so it appears his hamstring has been bothering him for a while. The severity of the injury is uncertain, although the Cardinals could elect to shut him down until the All-Star break as a precaution.
Jul 13 2018Bader is not in the lineup Friday against the Reds. The young outfielder had been working his way into a full-time starting role, but he's now been on the bench for three straight games. He first missed out to Dexter Fowler for a pair of games and will see Jose Martinez move out to the outfield in his place Friday.
Jul 10 2018Bader is not in the lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.Bader appears to have nudged ahead of the struggling Dexter Fowler in the battle for the Cardinals' right field job, but Fowler will still likely see a good number of starts. The veteran gets the nod for the second time in three games Tuesday.
Jul 7 2018Bader is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.Bader will hit the bench for the third time in the last six games as Dexter Fowler will start in right field, batting sixth. The 24-year-old has a .271/.338/.418 slash line with six home runs and eight stolen bases in 177 at-bats this season.
Jul 5 2018Bader went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, double and two runs scored Thursday against the Giants.Bader flew out in his first at-bat but followed that up with a double, single and then a home run, falling only a triple short of the cycle. It was his third three-hit effort this season, and his first since May 31. With Dexter Fowler's continuing struggles, Bader has seen more consistent at-bats and has taken advantage with five multi-hit games in his past eight starts.
Jul 2 2018Bader is not in the lineup against the Diamondbacks on Monday, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports.Bader will retreat to the bench following three straight starts as Tyler O'Neill gets the nod in right field. Through 67 games, Bader is hitting .261 with five home runs, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases.
Jul 1 2018Bader will start in right field and bat sixth Sunday against the Braves. It appears Bader has overtaken Dexter Fowler as the Cardinals' primary right fielder, as Sunday marks the former's third straight start at the position, with two of the assignments coming against right-handed pitching. Fowler, meanwhile, has been on the bench for all three games and hasn't shown many signs of awaking from his season-long slumber. After performing in impressive fashion over the first two months of the season, Bader slumped through most of June, but picked up the pace over the past week. He has gone 8-for-17 with five runs, three RBI and a steal over his past six games (five starts).
Jun 26 2018Bader went 2-for-4 with an RBI infield single, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Indians on Monday. After a brief 1-for-15 slump, Bader has bounced back to go 4-for-7 with two RBI, two walks and two runs over his last two games. The 24-year-old continues to occasionally augment his fantasy production with a stolen base, as he's now 7-for-9 in that category over 62 games. Bader's current .258/.321/.384 line still has plenty of room for improvement, but all three numbers represent boosts over those he generated during his initial big-league stint in 2017 (.235/.283/.376).
Jun 25 2018Bader went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, two walks and two runs in a win over the Brewers on Sunday.Bader drew a start at center field Sunday in place of Tommy Pham (illness) and snapped a 1-for-15 slump that had encompassed his last six games. Bader has typically seen playing time in right field in place of the struggling Dexter Fowler, but Pham's illness opened up the opportunity for both players to be in the lineup against the Brewers. Bader has struggled overall in June after hitting .310 in May, yet he remains much more productive than Fowler in terms of his slash line.
Jun 18 2018Bader went 2-for-4 with a run in a win over the Cubs on Sunday.Bader started in right field for the fourth time in the last five games, sending Dexter Fowler to the bench yet again. Bader remains exponentially more productive than the veteran, with his .264/.326/.411 line dwarfing Fowler's .173/.279/.283. It appears that at a minimum, Bader will continue drawing 3-4 starts a week on average, with the possibility of even more frequent playing time if Fowler's malaise persists.
Jun 17 2018Bader will start in right field and bat second Sunday against the Cubs.Bader has started in four of the Cardinals' last five contests, with all of those assignments coming against southpaws. It seems the 24-year-old has at least settled into a platoon with Dexter Fowler in right field, but Bader may need to heat up again before unseating the veteran as the primary starter. Since concluding May with his second three-hit effort in three days, Bader has gone 5-for-32 with 10 strikeouts.
Jun 11 2018Bader went 2-for-4 in a loss to the Reds on Sunday.Bader drew his first start since last Wednesday and generated his first multi-hit effort May 31 in the process. The promising outfielder surged in May, finishing the month with a .310 average and four home runs. However, it's been a rough go of it thus far in June, as even factoring in Sunday's two hits, Bader sports just a .150 average over his first 21 plate appearances of the month. However, given that he's still outpacing veteran Dexter Fowler at the plate overall, Bader figures to continue seeing fairly regular playing time for the foreseeable future.
Jun 1 2018Bader went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and a stolen base in a win over the Pirates on Thursday.Although veteran Dexter Fowler may finally be breaking out of his season-long doldrums, Bader continues to force the hand of manager Mike Matheny with his increasingly impressive bat. The 23-year-old finished May with a flourish, hitting .500 with a double, two home runs, three RBI and five runs across 20 plate appearances during what his now a six-game hitting streak.
May 30 2018Bader went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday.Bader opened the scoring in the second inning with a 375-foot shot to left center, his first round tripper since May 13. The 23-year-old continues to see fairly regular playing time around the outfield, with his last two starts coming in right in place of Dexter Fowler (knee). Bader now has a modest four-game hitting streak, and with a .274/.358/.440 season line that's light years ahead of Fowler's production (.157/.276/.288), he could increasingly carve out opportunity irrespective of the latter's availability.
May 30 2018Bader went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Brewers.Bader's seventh-inning blast knotted the score up at one, but the St. Louis bullpen couldn't hold on in the eventual defeat. The 23-year-old mashed a combined 23 home runs last year between the big league club and Triple-A Memphis, and is already up to five long balls this year to go along with a .273/.354/.466 slash line.
May 14 2018Bader went 2-for-4 with two RBI from a triple, a solo home run and two runs in a loss to the Padres on Sunday.Bader's bat came alive over his two starts in the four-game series against the Padres, as he launched a pair of homers and drove in three runs overall. The 23-year-old has now hit safely in five of his last six starts and is faring better in his second big-league stint. After generating a mediocre .235/.283/.376 line over 92 plate appearances in his initial major-league cup of coffee in 2017, Bader is slashing an improved .258/.370/.435 following Sunday's production.
May 12 2018Bader went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a win over the Padres on Friday.Bader started in right field with Dexter Fowler sitting due to southpaw Eric Lauer taking the hill for the Padres. The second-inning round tripper was his second of the season, with the first having come back on April 15. Bader's average sits at an uninspiring .246, but an 11.8 percent walk rate has helped lead to an impressive .368 OBP.
May 7 2018Bader went 2-for-7 with a run in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. He also was caught stealing on his only attempt.Bader manned the leadoff spot in Tommy Pham's (groin) stead and supplied his first multi-hit effort since April 22 in the process. The one run he scored was a notable one, as he crossed the plate on Dexter Fowler's game-winning two-run home run after getting on base by legging out an infield single. The 23-year-old outfielder has been seeing fairly regular playing time and holding his own against big-league arms, slashing .261/.393/.326 over 53 plate appearances thus far. If Pham misses additional time due to his groin strain, Bader is likely to continue drawing starts in his stead.
May 6 2018Bader will start in center field and hit leadoff Sunday against the Cubs, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.Bader assumes the position and lineup spot of Tommy Pham, who will be on the bench for the series finale after aggravating a right groin injury in Saturday's contest. The Cardinals are considering Pham day-to-day at this juncture, but if Pham fails to progress as expected and requires a trip to the disabled list, Bader would likely be in store for regular starts in the outfield. The 23-year-old has already contributed four steals across just 49 plate appearances and also boasts decent power.
Apr 20 2018Bader went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run in a loss to the Cubs on Thursday.Bader has now hit and scored in four straight games, a span during which he's also recorded both of his stolen bases. The 23-year-old's start in center field Thursday was in place of Tommy Pham (groin), who ultimately served in a pinch-hit capacity and whose absence from the starting lineup was deemed precautionary by manager Mike Matheny, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
Apr 15 2018Bader went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's victory over the Reds.Although this was a solid game from Bader, the 23-year-old doesn't offer much fantasy value. Since being recalled from Triple-A Memphis on April 3, he's gone 3-for-16 (.188) and struck out six times. His chances of seeing regular playing time are slim, as the Cardinals outfield is typically filled with the likes of Marcell Ozuna, Tommy Pham and Dexter Fowler.
Apr 3 2018Bader was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.Bader will take the roster spot of Jedd Gyorko (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move. The 23-year-old prospect appeared in 32 games for the big club last season, hitting .235/.283/.376 with three homers across 92 plate appearances. Bader impressed during spring training, notching an .846 OPS in 21 Grapefruit League games, so he should be given some opportunities to prove himself while he's with the Cardinals. He'll likely serve as outfield depth and a right-handed bench bat until Gyorko is healthy, at which point he'll likely be headed back to the minors.
Mar 5 2018Bader, who is competing for a reserve outfield role, is slashing .348/.375/.853 with three doubles, two RBI, two stolen bases and five runs across eight spring training games. The 23-year-old turned in another impressive outing in Sunday's loss to the Astros, accounting for the Cardinals' only run with an RBI infield single. Bader generated a middling .235/.283/.376 line over 92 plate appearances in his initial regular-season big-league stint in 2017, but he displayed some pop with six extra-base hits (three doubles, three home runs). Bader's principal competition for a backup role this spring comes in the form of fellow prospect Tyler O'Neill, who's presently missing valuable time with an oblique injury.
Feb 27 2018Bader will compete for a spot as a reserve outfielder for St. Louis over the course of spring training, Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals' talented outfield is filled with Marcell Ozuna, Tommy Pham, and Dexter Fowler, but the club still has space for a reserve option. If he impresses during spring training, the door is open for Bader to start the season with the Cardinals as their fourth outfielder. To earn one of the club's final roster spots, Bader's most serious source of competition figures to come from Tyler O'Neill. To this point, Bader has appeared in 32 games in the majors, over which he's hit .235/.283/.376.
Sep 30 2017Bader went 0-for-2 in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers and is now just 2-for-18 in the last nine games in which he's registered at least one at-bat.The rookie slashed .326/.360/.565 over his first 50 major-league plate appearances between July 25 and Sept. 7, but he's hit a rough patch since that point. However, Bader has shown some decent pop (one double, three home runs) and appears poised to make a strong push for a roster spot in spring training 2018.
Sep 6 2017Bader went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and two runs in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Giants. The rookie now has a trio of two-hit games in September, and all three have included a homer. Other than blasting the ball out of the park, Bader hasn't done anything else except hit singles during that stretch, as the two doubles and two walks he's logged both came during his earlier big-league stint back in July. However, his current power surge has his season line at an impressive .308/.357/.590 over 42 plate appearances.
Sep 4 2017Bader went 2-for-5 with two RBI from a run-scoring single and a solo home run while scoring twice in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Giants. The rookie was at the top of the order with Dexter Fowler sitting Sunday and delivered, smacking a 390-foot shot to left center in the sixth to snap a 2-2 tie and then extending the Cardinals' lead to 6-2 with his seventh-inning single. Bader now has the first two homers of his major-league career in the past three games and has already collected four multi-hit outings over his first nine games in the big leagues.
Sep 3 2017Bader will start in center field and lead off Sunday against the Giants. After collecting his first MLB home run during his start in the series opener Friday, Bader will receive another turn in the outfield with Dexter Fowler sitting for the second time in three games. Fowler still looks on track to serve as the Cardinals' primary option in center field as the season winds down, but with the team fading from postseason contention, Bader could be in store for a handful of starts per week if his performance warrants added at-bats.
Sep 2 2017Bader went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs in Friday's 11-6 win over the Giants. The rookie took Johnny Cueto deep in the third with a man on to open the scoring on the night for the Cardinals, helping cut in to an early 3-0 deficit. Bader held his own against big-league pitching in his initial 23 plate appearances earlier in the season (.286/.348/.381), so it will be intriguing to monitor his progress over what should be a larger sample in the final month of the campaign.
Sep 1 2017Bader was recalled by the Cardinals on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Bader returns to the big-league club after spending most of the 2017 season in Triple-A Memphis. The 23-year-old has made six appearances with the Cardinals this year, going 6-for-23 (.286 average) with two doubles at the plate, but was hitting just .179/.319/.179 over his last 18 games with Memphis prior to this move. He figures to serve as outfield depth for the Redbirds throughout the month of September.
Aug 14 2017Bader has gone 0-for-14 in his last five games for Triple-A Memphis and is slashing .288/.345/.594 with the Redbirds this season. The 23-year-old outfielder was sent back down to Memphis on Aug. 1 after having slashed .286/.348/.381 over his first 23 big-league plate appearances. Bader did start off hot in his second Triple-A stint of 2017, hitting .333 (5-for-15) over his first four games. One of those hits was Bader's 20th round tripper of the season, making it the first time he's reached that milestone in his professional career. He also slugged 16 homers with Double-A Springfield last season before a promotion to the Redbirds, so his power profile is certainly trending in the right direction.
Jul 31 2017Bader will be optioned to Triple-A Memphis before Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.Bader will head back to the minors to clear room for Stephen Piscotty (groin), who is expected to come off the disabled list before Tuesday's series opener in Milwaukee. The 23-year-old prospect held his own during his first stint with the big club --slashing .286/.348/.381 in six games (23 plate appearances) -- making him a prime call-up candidate should the Cardinals need another outfielder down the road.
Jul 29 2017Bader went 2-for-3 in Friday's 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks. The rookie's average is up to .400 following Friday's multihit effort, his second in four games with the big-league club. The performance was a nice rebound for Bader after striking out three times in four at-bats Thursday, his first game coming up empty at the plate. Even with the exceedingly modest sample size, Bader has looked the part thus far against major-league pitching, validating his designation as one of the organization's most promising prospects.
Jul 27 2017Bader went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Rockies. The rookie crossed the plate with the game-winning run Tuesday after having smacked a double for his first major-league hit, so he picked up where he left off with Wednesday's performance. Bader will have several more games at a minimum to make an impression while Dexter Fowler (wrist) is sidelined, and could potentially find a way to stick if he continues producing in a manner comparable to that of his first two contests.
Jul 26 2017Bader went 1-for-4 with a double and the winning run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Rockies. The rookie made his mark in his first taste of major-league regular-season action, roping a double into left in the bottom of the ninth and then flashing his speed by scoring the winning run on a sacrifice fly to short right field by Jedd Gyorko. The two-bagger notably came against southpaw reliever Jake McGee, adding to the extensive track record of success against left-handed pitching that the outfielder brings with him from Triple-A Memphis. Bader will get a multi-game audition with the Cardinals for the time being while Dexter Fowler recovers from a wrist strain on the 10-day disabled list.
Jul 25 2017Bader will make his big-league debut Tuesday, hitting seventh and patrolling center field against the Rockies. He was promoted as a corresponding move to Dexter Fowler (wrist strain) landing on the DL, meaning Bader will be the Cardinals' everyday center fielder in the short term. Bader had a .297/.354/.517 slash line with 19 home runs and nine steals (on 15 attempts) in 381 plate appearances for Triple-A Memphis. He does the bulk of his damage against lefties, against whom he has a 1.358 OPS, versus a .744 mark against righties. This makes him an immediate option against southpaws in daily leagues, but it would not be surprising if he had some struggles against same-handed pitching in his first stint with the big-league club. The Cardinals face righty Jon Gray in this contest.
Jul 25 2017Bader's contract was purchased from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, David Solomon of 550 KTRS reports.Dexter Fowler is headed to the DL with a wrist strain, which opens up an opportunity for Bader to get regular at-bats with the big-league club. He has a .297/.354/.517 slash line with 19 home runs and nine steals (on 15 attempts) in 381 plate appearances, so it's easy to get excited about his fantasy potential. Bader does the bulk of his damage against lefties, against whom he has a 1.358 OPS, versus a .744 mark against righties. This makes him an immediate option against southpaws in daily leagues, but it would not be surprising if he had some struggles against same-handed pitching in his first stint with the big-league club.
Jul 24 2017Bader, 23, is slashing .298/.355/.519 over 380 plate appearances with Triple-A Memphis in 2017.Bader's slugging percentage leads all players currently on the Memphis roster, but he isn't on the Cardinals' 40-man roster, which may make it difficult for him to receive a promotion to the big club this season. It's probably for the best for Bader to continue picking up regular at-bats at Triple-A, since the Cardinals don't have an immediate need for outfield help at the big-league level -- Dexter Fowler, Stephen Piscotty, Randal Grichuk, Tommy Pham, Magneuris Sierra and Jose Martinez are giving the team plenty of production.
Jun 18 2017Bader is hitting .351 with four home runs, six RB and seven runs over his last 10 games with Triple-A Memphis. The 23-year-old outfielder now has 26 extra-base hits on the season, and he's homered in two straight games and three of the last five overall. Bader's notable progress at the plate in his second season against Triple-A pitching could certainly put him in line for a call-up later in the campaign.
May 24 2017Bader is now slashing .298/.369/.470 with eight doubles, six home runs and 14 RBI over 43 games with Triple-A Memphis.Bader has a pair of four-hit games in the last five contests and has picked it up significantly since a slow start that had his average at just .219 after 10 games. The promising outfielder's current level of play is much closer to what he flashed during spring training, when he hit .346 over 57 plate appearances. Bader is clearly benefiting from his second go-around against Triple-A pitching after slashing just .231/.298/.354 over 161 plate appearances with the Redbirds last season.
