Mar 23 2024The Mets informed Voit on Saturday that he did not make the team's Opening Day roster, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit joined the Mets on a minor-league contract Feb. 19, with an invitation to spring training. He struggled in camp as he struck out 12 times while slashing .100/.222/.200 with one home run and three RBI over 36 plate appearances.
Aug 3 2023Voit opted out of his minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mayer adds that Voit has officially been released from Triple-A Syracuse, where had posted a shiny 1.058 OPS with 14 home runs and 35 RBI through 37 games. The 32-year-old slugger might already have an opportunity lined up elsewhere as heads back into free agency.
Jun 12 2023Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was cut loose by the Brewers earlier this month after putting up a lowly .549 OPS through 74 plate appearances. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse for the time being but could get a look with the Mets before long as they deal with the loss of Pete Alonso (wrist).
Jun 2 2023The Brewers released Voit on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit earned a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster after he turned some heads during spring training, but his performance failed to carry over into the regular season. The 32-year-old first baseman holds a .549 OPS on the season through 74 plate appearances and could latch on with another team as a bench piece.
May 29 2023The Brewers reinstated Voit (neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit recently wrapped up an eight-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville and appears to be fully recovered from a neck strain, but the Brewers don't have a spot available for him on the roster. Rather than clearing a spot for Voit, the Brewers will stick with Darin Ruf as their preferred right-handed-hitting option at first base or designated hitter. If Voit isn't claimed off waivers by another team, expect him to elect free agency rather than staying in the organization and accepting an outright assignment to Nashville.
May 20 2023Voit (neck) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been on the injured list only since Monday, so the fact that he's already ready for a rehab assignment suggests his neck strain was a minor one. The Brewers signed Darin Ruf to be a right-handed option at first base and designated hitter following Voit's injury, however, so Voit may face some competition in reclaiming his role. He failed to impress prior to landing on the injured list, slashing .221/.284/.265 with zero homers in 74 trips to the plate.
May 15 2023Milwaukee placed Voit on the 10-day injured list Monday with a strained neck. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will be eligible to return later this month, although it's unclear whether he'll be ready then. Milwaukee signed Darin Ruf to a one-year contract in a corresponding move, and he'll presumably replace Voit as a short-side platoon option at either first base or designated hitter.
May 12 2023Voit went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has hit safely in his last four games, going 4-for-12 with six strikeouts in that span. The first baseman also set a career high in steals with his second of the season in Friday's contest. He's hardly a speed threat, and his power has largely been absent in 2023 as well -- he's slugging just .273 with no home runs over 72 plate appearances.
Apr 6 2023Voit went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Wednesday's victory over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit picked up his first two hits of the season, and he also recorded only the second steal of his seven-year big-league career. While that benefited anyone who had him in a fantasy lineup Wednesday, it's unlikely that the slugger will add speed to his resume at 32 years old, particularly with him occupying a part-time role for the Brewers.
Mar 25 2023Voit opted out of his minor-league contract with the Brewers on Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Multiple writers who cover the Brewers are calling this a "procedural move" for Voit. The infielder is now eligible to negotiate with other clubs, but it appears there's interest in a reunion -- for lack of a better term -- between the two clubs. It would not be a shock if Voit was back with Milwaukee on a guaranteed deal, but there are other clubs who could use his services at this point in time as well.
Mar 18 2023Voit's opt-out clause has been pushed to Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There is apparently mutual interest in things working out with Voit in Milwaukee, which is why he did not exercise his opt-out clause this week. The Brewers will look to find a way to add him to the 40-man roster before next weekend, but even if Voit makes the team, he is unlikely to start against righties, with Rowdy Tellez at first base and Jesse Winker presumably getting most of his starts at designated hitter.
Mar 13 2023Voit's minor-league contract with the Brewers contains an out clause that he can exercise Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit went 2-for-2 with a walk Monday versus the Reds and is now batting .346/.370/.538 with one home run over 10 Cactus League games. The Brewers surely would like to keep him around, but complicating matters is that Keston Hiura is competing for a similar role and he's out of options. Milwaukee and Voit will have some decisions to make this week.
Feb 21 2023Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is coming off a season for the Padres and Nationals in which he posted a .226/.308/.402 batting line with 22 home runs and 69 RBI. He'll give the Brew Crew another option at designated hitter and first base and would figure to be part of the Opening Day roster, barring any surprises. Voit turned 32 last week.
Nov 18 2022The Nationals declined to tender Voit a contract for 2023, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Rumors were swirling that Voit was likely to be non-tendered, and indeed the Nats decided to cut ties rather than pay Voit north of $5.5 million in arbitration. Voit hit just .228/.295/.381 with nine homers in 53 games with Washington after coming over from San Diego. He famously led the majors in homers with 22 during the shortened 2020 campaign.
Jul 29 2022Voit went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two total runs scored in Friday's 10-1 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Voit's fourth multi-hit effort in July. His two-run homer in the first inning was all the support Blake Snell would need, though Voit also knocked an RBI double in the fifth. The 31-year-old slugger is up to 13 long balls, 47 RBI, 38 runs scored, 18 doubles and a stolen base through 79 contests.
Jul 27 2022Voit went 1-for-4 with three RBI in Tuesday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He helped break a 3-3 tie in the top of the 10th, when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Jurickson Profar. Voit, who is getting on base at a .409 clip through the Padres' first five games out of the All-Star break, will start at first base and bat cleanup in Wednesday's series finale.
Jul 16 2022Voit went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit put the Padres ahead with his sixth-inning blast. He's gone 2-for-8 across his last two games after snapping an 0-for-18 skid at the plate. That dry spell has caused his slash line to sag to .219/.309/.404 in 298 plate appearances. The slugger has added 11 homers -- matching his total from 68 contests last season -- with 39 RBI, 32 runs scored, a stolen base and 15 doubles through 71 games.
Jul 13 2022Voit isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started in the last two games and went 0-for-7 with an RBI, a walk and three strikeouts. Manny Machado is serving as the designated hitter while CJ Abrams starts at shortstop Wednesday.
Jul 10 2022Voit is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will get a breather after he had started each of the past nine days while going 6-for-29 with a home run, two doubles, five walks and two RBI. Manny Machado will get a turn as the Padres' designated hitter while Voit rests up.
Jul 2 2022Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was one of four Padres to log multiple hits, and both of his went for extra bases. He smacked a double in the second inning and added a solo shot in the eighth. The 31-year-old had a bit of a power binge in June with six homers, and it only took him two contests into July to snap a 10-game drought without a long ball. He's up to a .232/.319/.432 slash line with 10 homers, 34 RBI, 29 runs scored, a stolen base and 14 doubles through 60 contests this year.
Jun 30 2022Voit isn't starting Thursday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is getting a breather after he went 3-for-17 with a run, an RBI, a walk and seven strikeouts over the last five games. Manny Machado (ankle) is serving as the designated hitter and batting second Thursday.
Jun 26 2022Voit is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started the past two games after missing one contest due to hamstring soreness, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Jorge Alfaro will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Austin Nola starts behind the plate.
Jun 24 2022Voit (hamstring) will bat third as the designated hitter Friday against the Phillies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was withheld from Thursday's lineup due to hamstring soreness, but it was a minor issue and he'll quickly rejoin the starting nine. The 31-year-old is 1-for-11 over his past three games, though overall in June he has an .882 OPS with six home runs, 10 doubles, 22 RBI and 12 runs.
Jun 23 2022Voit isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies due to hamstring soreness, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been an everyday player for the Padres this season, and he's out of the lineup Thursday for the first time since May 24. Manager Bob Melvin said that Voit could have played, but the team wanted to be safe by keeping him out of the starting nine. The 31-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now.
Jun 20 2022Voit went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's loss against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit took Antonio Senzatela deep in the second inning to give the Padres a short-lived lead. He later came around to score on an Austin Nola homer in the eighth. Voit had a slow start to the year, but he has picked things up in June with eight multi-hit affairs in 19 games this month. The first baseman is on a three-game hitting streak and has raised his season batting average to .245.
Jun 15 2022Voit went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, two runs and two RBI in a 19-5 win against the Padres on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit walked in the first inning, doubled in the fifth and seventh and cracked a solo home run in the ninth off Chicago first baseman Frank Schwindel. The 31-year-old has been hot over his last four games, going 7-for-19 with three home runs and three doubles, though the walk was his first since June 1. Voit is now slashing .237/.318/.432 with eight home runs, 24 runs and 28 RBI.
Jun 13 2022Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit's sixth home run of the season put the Padres on the board after Rockies starter German Marquez blanked the Friars through the first four frames. Since returning from a stint on the 10-day injured list May 10 after dealing with a biceps injury, Voit has slashed .259/.311/.464 with six home runs, 16 RBI and 15 runs in 29 games.
Jun 7 2022Voit went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Monday in a loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Padres trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the eighth inning before Voit made things interesting with a three-run shot to center field. The Mets bounced back with four runs of their own in the following frame to put the game out of reach. Despite the loss, Voit continued a recent resurgence that has seen him slash .333/.355/.567 over his past seven games. Strikeouts remain a problem for the slugger, however, as he has fanned 11 times while taking only one walk over that span.
Jun 1 2022Voit went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit took Cardinals reliever Kodi Whitley deep in the ninth inning. The Padres continued to push after that, but they weren't able to tie the game. In his last 12 games, Voit is 12-for-40 (.300 with two homers, four RBI and six runs scored.) He's lifted his slash line to .217/.339/.358 with four long balls, 11 RBI, 16 runs scored, three doubles and a stolen base through 31 contests. He should continue to see regular playing time as the Padres' designated hitter.
May 28 2022Voit went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 4-3 victory against Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit struck out in each of his first two plate appearances and has fanned 21 times in 46 at-bats since returning from the injured list May 10, but he made up for the punchouts with a three-run homer to left field in the sixth inning. The long ball extended his hitting streak to seven games, during which he's batting .318 (7-for-22). He's also struck out 10 times over that span, however.
May 24 2022Voit is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has a .829 OPS across his past 10 games and will take a seat for Tuesday's contest. Robinson Cano will bat sixth as the designated hitter against Milwaukee.
May 20 2022Voit isn't starting Friday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit went 1-for-6 with a walk and four strikeouts over the last two games, but he'll get a breather in Friday's series opener against the Giants. Robinson Cano will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.
May 17 2022Voit will sit Tuesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has gone 5-for-21 with a pair of homers and nine strikeouts in the five games since his return from a biceps injury, though his last two appearances have featured five of those strikeouts and none of those hits. He'll get a rest Tuesday as Robinson Cano serves as the designated hitter.
May 11 2022Voit went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs and three runs in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman took Keegan Thompson deep in the second inning and then launched another homer off Mychal Givens in the seventh frame. Voit finally notched his first homers of the season Wednesday. The 31-year-old has struggled to a .184 batting average over 49 at-bats to open the season. Voit will look to springboard this effort into a hot stretch in the coming weeks.
May 10 2022Voit (biceps) was activated off the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old landed on the shelf April 23 with a biceps tendon injury and will rejoin the big-league roster after a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso. Voit went 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts during the rehab stint, which isn't a great sign given his .143/.315/.167 slash line and 31.5 percent strikeout rate prior to the injury. The veteran slugger may need to get on track quickly in order to maintain a regular spot in San Diego's lineup.
May 9 2022Voit (biceps) will return to Triple-A El Paso to get more rehab at-bats Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has struggled significantly through five rehab games as he works his way back from a biceps issue, going 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts. He got live at-bats at the team's practice facility in San Diego on Monday, and the verdict was evidently that he needs more time before returning from the injured list.
May 8 2022Voit (biceps) has returned to San Diego and is expected to get some live at-bats at the Padres' facility over the next few days before returning from the 10-day injured list, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Voit believes the biceps issue that resulted in his placement on the IL on April 24 has subsided at this point, he's looking to regain his timing at the plate on the heels of a rough rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso. During his five-game run with El Paso, Voit went hitless with 12 strikeouts across 18 at-bats. The Padres don't believe Voit will need extensive time to find his swing, though he's not expected to be activated during the team's three-game home series with the Cubs that runs from Monday through Wednesday.
May 6 2022Voit (biceps) struck out in all four plate appearances with Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts and two walks on his rehab assignment. The expectation was that Voit would need about a week-long rehab stint, and that may still be the case, but he was also hitting .143 with 17 strikeouts in 54 plate appearances in the majors before injuring his bicep, so it's fair to be concerned about how productive he will be once activated.
May 5 2022Voit (biceps) is expected to need a one-week rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit reportedly feels fully healthy, but he is remaining on his rehab stint to fully find his swing prior to returning to San Diego. He has made two appearances with El Paso, collecting no hits through six at-bats while striking out twice. Given the new timeline, Voit will likely be back with the big-league club at some point during the series with the Cubs that begins Monday.
May 3 2022Voit (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been on the shelf for just over a week with the biceps tendon injury, so he may only need a game or two in the minors to prove his health. If Voit checks out fine during his time at El Paso, he could rejoin the Padres for the team's four-game weekend series against the Marlins. He'll likely reclaim duties as San Diego's primary designated hitter upon returning from the IL.
Apr 24 2022Voit was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a biceps tendon injury. The transaction is retroactive to April 23. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old sat out of the lineup Saturday with the biceps injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next week and a half. Voit was scheduled to undergo medical testing, but the results of those tests remain unclear, leaving his return timeline up in the air. Luis Campusano was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.
Apr 23 2022Voit is dealing with a biceps injury, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The injury explains why Voit is out of the lineup against the left-handed Tyler Anderson on Saturday. The extent of Voit's injury is not yet known, but manager Bob Melvin didn't rule out a trip to the injured list. Voit will undergo tests to determine exactly what type of issue he is dealing with, at which point his expected return date should become clearer.
Apr 20 2022Voit isn't starting Wednesday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started the last two games and went 0-for-5 with an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts. Manny Machado will serve as the designated hitter while Ha-Seong Kim enters the lineup at third base.
Apr 17 2022Voit is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Eric Hosmer picking up a start at first base and Jake Cronenworth getting a day out of the field and serving as the team's designated hitter, the Padres won't have room in the starting nine for Voit in the series finale. He'll be sitting out for the first time all season after going 6-for-34 (.176 average) with one extra-base hit (a double), five runs, four RBI, a stolen base and an 8:14 BB:K through San Diego's first 10 games.
Apr 15 2022Voit went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI in Thursday's 12-1 win over the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit netted two runs with a second-inning double and drove in another with a single in the sixth. The double was his first extra-base hit as a Padre, and he finished with his first multi-hit game of the season. Voit is slashing .231/.429/.269 through 35 plate appearances on the campaign.
Apr 13 2022Voit went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit scored the Padres' first run of the contest and pushed his hitting streak to four games with a second-inning single, but it was his theft of second base that made the most noise. Prior to Tuesday, the slugger had logged 1,292 career plate appearances without even attempting to steal. It's safe to say that Voit's fantasy managers shouldn't expect speed to suddenly become part of his skill set.
Apr 10 2022Voit went 1-for-2 with two runs and three walks in a 10-5 triumph over the Diamondbacks on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit walked in the second, fifth and sixth innings, scoring on two occasions, and singled in the ninth. The former Yankee leads the majors with seven walks -- two more than anyone else -- and sports an impressive .529 OBP in the early going.
Mar 18 2022Voit was traded from the Yankees to the Padres in exchange for Justin Lange on Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees made it clear that they didn't value Voit particularly highly when they signed Anthony Rizzo to be their first baseman Tuesday. With Giancarlo Stanton locked into the designated hitter spot, Voit would have been stuck waiting for an injury to open up regular at-bats. He comes with durability and consistency questions, but he's been quite productive overall in his five big-league seasons, hitting .267/.357/.510. He'll face a downgrade in park in his move to the West Coast, but that should be more than offset by a clear path to playing time, as Voit lines up as the Padres' natural choice at designated hitter.
Mar 13 2022Voit's status with the Yankees is in question after the team acquired Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Twins on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees were able to bolster their infield without giving up any prospects in Sunday's trade, so the team is in position to acquire a left-handed hitting first baseman via trade or free agency. If that occurs, Voit could be the odd man out in the team's infield since DJ LeMahieu should also see time at first base. The 31-year-old appeared in 68 games for the Yankees while battling injuries last year, and he hit .239 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 26 runs.
Oct 19 2021Voit (knee) is expected to be ready for spring training, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit missed the tail end of the season with left knee inflammation. The issue was expected to keep him out for multiple weeks if the Yankees advanced in the playoffs, but it evidently isn't an injury which is expected to be still bothering him in February.
Oct 3 2021The Yankees transferred Voit (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After experiencing inflammation in his left knee, Voit was placed on the IL on Thursday. Though the Yankees viewed his injury as a multi-week issue, Voit initially appeared to have hope of making a potential return in late October or early November if New York enjoyed a deep postseason run, but his move to the 60-day IL now takes that off the table. To fill Voit's spot on the 40-man roster, the Yankees selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Brady Koerner and subsequently optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Sep 30 2021Voit was placed on the 10-day injured list with left knee inflammation Thursday, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was removed from Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays due to a knee injury that will force him to miss the remainder of the regular season. The 30-year-old appeared in 68 games this year and slashed .239/.328/.437 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 26 runs. It's not yet clear if he could return if the Yankees advance to the ALDS.
Sep 29 2021Voit suffered a right knee injury during Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit struck out in his pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, but he picked up the knee injury running to first base on a dropped third strike. The 30-year-old is receiving treatment and should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.
Sep 18 2021Voit went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a walk in Saturday's 11-3 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit swatted his 11th homer of the season in the eighth inning, connecting off Justin Garza to round out the scoring. Playing time has been sporadic for Voit since the Yankees acquired veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Cubs, but Voit has shown some signs of life at the plate over his last three games, reaching base five times with a pair of homers and three walks.
Sep 15 2021Voit went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a 7-2 win against Baltimore on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit joined the Yankees' power barrage against Orioles pitching, as his third-inning solo shot was one of five long balls hit by the team in the win. It was just the second home run this month for the first baseman, though that is partly due to dwindling playing time thanks to a mostly healthy offensive lineup. Still, it's worth noting that Voit blasted 22 homers in 213 at-bats during the shortened 2020 campaign but has just 10 in 201 at-bats this season.
Sep 10 2021Voit is not starting Friday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugger was absent from the starting nine in the previous two games, and now it becomes even harder to work him into the lineup without a DH in the NL park. Nonetheless, he has a strong chance to appear in the game off the bench and could draw a start at first base later in the series.
Sep 9 2021Voit hit a solo home run in his only at-bat during Thursday's 6-4 loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old pinch hit for Tyler Wade in the ninth inning and went back-to-back with Gary Sanchez, but that only got the Yankees back within two runs. Voit hadn't hit a homer since Aug. 27, although he's received just 26 at-bats across 11 games in that time. Playing time will likely be hard to come by for Voit despite his solid .253/.333/.442 slash line in 213 plate appearances. With Anthony Rizzo manning first base and Giancarlo Stanton alternating between right field and designated hitter frequently, Voit's been limited to a part-time role in the lineup.
Sep 8 2021Voit is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Giancarlo Stanton occupying the designated hitter spot rather than right field, Voit will head to the bench for the second time in the series. Voit looks to be fighting Brett Gardner for one spot in the Yankees' everyday lineup.
Sep 6 2021Voit is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is no longer a full-time player for the Yankees with Anthony Rizzo taking over primary duties at first base, but the former still looks to be locked into a near-everyday role at designated hitter. However, with the Yankees giving Giancarlo Stanton a break from outfield duties and having him serve as a DH in Monday's series opener, Voit will be forced to the bench as a result.
Sep 4 2021Voit is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Last season's home-run leader is now a part-time player after the Yankees brought in both Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo at the trade deadline. Voit has logged only 21 at-bats since Aug. 22, collecting four hits, including two for extra bases (one homer), while striking out 11 times. He has a .779 OPS in 52 games so far this year.
Aug 31 2021Voit is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit finds himself on the bench for the second straight day after being in the starting nine for the previous three games. Brett Gardner will again start in the outfield while Giancarlo Stanton serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 30 2021Voit is out of the lineup Monday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started the past three games and will take a seat after going 2-for-11 with a solo homer and six strikeouts in that stretch. Giancarlo Stanton will serve as the designated hitter while Brett Gardner joins the outfield mix Monday.
Aug 29 2021Voit will start at first base and bat fifth Sunday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit's rest-of-season outlook appeared to take a significant hit when the Yankees acquired another established everyday first baseman in Anthony Rizzo on July 29, but the former will close out the weekend with three consecutive starts. Though he'll displace the slumping Rizzo at first base Sunday, the designated hitter spot looks like it'll be Voit's ticket to holding down a semi-regular role in the lineup. Though Giancarlo Stanton has occupied the DH spot for the majority of the season, manager Aaron Boone has increased Stanton's exposure to the outfield of late in an effort for the Yankees to trot out all of their top hitters. Stanton started in right field both of the past two games, allowing Voit to get a pair of turns at DH.
Aug 28 2021Voit went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 victory over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit mashed a 437-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning off Sean Manaea. Prior to Friday, the slugger hadn't started since Aug. 21 -- largely due to the Yankees playing in an NL park -- though he did appear off the bench three times in that span. Voit has gone deep five times in 55 at-bats since returning from the injured list Aug. 8 and is batting .309 with 18 RBI over that stretch.
Aug 26 2021Voit is not starting in Thursday's lineup against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was out of the lineup early in the week as the team was in Atlanta and did not have the benefit of a designated hitter. While his absence now extends an additional game, manager Aaron Boone said that Voit is likely to be in the lineup throughout the rest of the team's weekend series at Oakland.
Aug 23 2021Voit will sit for Monday's game in Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been on an incredible tear over his last seven games, hitting .500 with three homers and 13 RBI. The Yankees had been finding room for both him and Anthony Rizzo in the lineup recently, with Voit moving to designated hitter in two of the team's last three games, pushing Giancarlo Stanton to the outfield, but that won't be an option under National League rules. The Yankees are set to face righties (Huascar Ynoa and Charlie Morton) in both games of the two-game series, so it could be the left-handed Rizzo in the lineup on both occasions.
Aug 20 2021Voit went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 10-2 win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old got the start at first base with Anthony Rizzo resting, and Voit made a substantial case to earn more playing time. He knocked in a pair with a single in the first inning, then added another RBI on a ground rule double in the fourth and capped off the impressive game with a solo shot in the seventh. Voit has swatted seven homers with 26 RBI, 21 runs scored and five doubles through 172 plate appearances, but he's likely to play second fiddle to Rizzo down the stretch.
Aug 18 2021Voit isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been hot at the plate recently, as he went 6-for-13 with two home runs, five RBI and four runs across the last four games. Although he had an everyday role recently, he'll see fewer at-bats after Anthony Rizzo (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday.
Aug 15 2021Voit went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit singled and scored on Rougned Odor's homer in the second inning but he saved his own two-run shot until the ninth to put the Yankees up 5-1. It was his fifth home run of the year and second in the last seven games since returning from the injured list. Voit is still slashing just .234/.314/.380 through 153 plate appearances.
Aug 10 2021Voit went 2-for-5 with a home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 11-inning win over Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two teams engaged in a scoreless tie for six frames before Voit broke the stalemate with a seventh-inning RBI single. In the ninth, the slugger again untied the contest with a solo shot to right field. The long ball was his fourth of the season and his first since returning to the active roster Sunday. Voit is slashing .239/.321/.385 overall in what has been an injury-plagued campaign.
Aug 8 2021Voit (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday and is starting at first base against the Mariners, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old appeared in three rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Anthony Rizzo sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19. Voit has been injured for most of the season and lost out on the everyday role at first base thanks to the acquisitions at the trade deadline, but he'll have the chance to start, at least briefly, with RIzzo out for the immediate future. Voit has a .698 OPS in 29 big-league games this season, while he went 3-for-11 with a home run during the brief rehab stint.
Aug 4 2021Voit (knee) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman got his rehab stint off to a promising start by smashing a solo shot in the sixth inning. He played seven frames at first base in the Triple-A contest, per Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune. While Voit is clearly on the mend, the Yankees' trade-deadline acquisition of Anthony Rizzo likely means Voit won't have an everyday role with the big club waiting for him when he's able to return. Per Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman suggested that Voit's injuries this season have led to the loss of his starting role. "He's kind of like the NFL starting quarterback where he goes down early in the year, but by the time he gets back the position is now gone," Cashman said Sunday during an interview with Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette on Sirius/XM's MLB Network Radio. The general manager did not altogether rule out the idea of Voit being a major contributor this season, however. "This guy obviously can help us. The lane that used to be so obvious currently isn't there, so obviously we are a lot deeper with everything we have. We have more choices, more protection because of it, but unfortunately right now he's going to get some at-bats and do what he does best (in rehab games), which is crush it, and then we'll see how he's going to fit as we move forward."
Aug 1 2021Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Voit (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is in the midst of his third stint on the injured list this season, this time due to a bone bruise and inflammation in his left knee. Though Voit could be tracking toward a return from the IL by next weekend or the week after, the Yankees don't appear to be counting on him reclaiming an everyday role at first base after the team shipped out two highly regarded prospects to the Cubs on Thursday to acquire Anthony Rizzo. With Rizzo off to a red-hot start to his tenure with the Yankees and with Giancarlo Stanton locked in as the team's regular designated hitter, Voit may need one of the two to miss time with an injury before regaining meaningful at-bats.
Jul 29 2021Voit (knee) hit against Luis Severino (elbow) in a simulated game Thursday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Injuries have limited Voit to just 29 games this season, in which he's hit a disappointing .241/.328/.370. His latest absence, the result of a bone bruise and inflammation in his left knee, doesn't look as though it will keep him out much longer, though it remains unclear exactly when he'll be activated.
Jul 27 2021Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Voit (knee) is "very close" to being activated from the 10-day injured list, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been out since July 16 with a bone bruise and inflammation in his left knee. The slugger was previously reported to be targeting an early August activation, but Boone said that he could be activated as soon as Wednesday or Thursday in Tampa Bay, and that he is almost certain to be reinstated by the conclusion of the weekend series in Miami.
Jul 24 2021Voit (knee) is doing "significantly better," per Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and could return to the active roster during the first week of August, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman last played July 16 and has been out since that date while dealing with a bone bruise and inflammation in his left knee. He was able to resume baseball activities earlier this week and appears to be closing in on a return. Injuries have limited Voit to 29 games this season, during which he has slashed .241/.328/.370 with three homers and 11 RBI over 122 plate appearances.
Jul 21 2021Voit (knee) resumed baseball activities Wednesday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a bone bruise and inflammation in his left knee, but he was able to take grounders ahead of Wednesday's matchup against the Phillies. It's not yet clear when the 30-year-old will be able to return to action, but Chris Gittens (Achilles) and DJ LeMahieu should continue to fill in at first base in his absence.
Jul 16 2021Voit was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a bone bruise in his left knee, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear when Voit suffered the injury, but the timing couldn't be worse with the Yankees already missing six players due to positive COVID-19 tests. According to Hoch, Voit will receive a lubricating injection in his knee and PRP therapy could also be utilized. The first baseman has no timetable for his return, though he seems likely to be sidelined beyond the 10-day minimum. Chris Gittens was promoted and is starting at first base Friday.
Jul 9 2021Manager Aaron Boone said Voit is not injured and is just getting a day off Friday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There was some speculation that Voit's hand, hit by a pitch Thursday, was the cause for his omission from Friday's lineup. That's not the case, though, and he figures to return to action Saturday.
Jul 7 2021Voit went 5-for-6 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 12-1 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit anchored a 12-run, 18-hit offensive display Tuesday night with a career-high five hits, including a two-run single in the second inning and an RBI single in the third. The 30-year-old has started off a bit slow since his return from the injured list in late June; however, he's building up some momentum heading into the All-Star break after hitting safely in each of his last three contests. For the year, Voit's slashing .237/.302/.381 with three homers, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored and a 7:31 BB:K over 106 plate appearances.
Jun 24 2021Voit went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Thursday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit delivered his third home run of the season in the third inning to give the Yankees a four-run lead. He's recorded at least one hit in each of his three games since being activated from the injured list June 22, highlighted by a pair of home runs and a triple. For the season, Voit is hitting .211/.297/.404 across just 64 plate appearances.
Jun 22 2021Voit went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a triple and a walk during Tuesday's loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit got the scoring started by cranking a 423-foot shot against Brady Singer in the first inning. He nearly swatted his second long ball of the night but it was called back and ruled a triple. It was the second long ball of the year for the 30-year-old, who was activated off the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game. It's been an injury-ridden start to the season for Voit, who has missed substantial time due to a meniscus tear in his knee and a strained oblique. Across 13 games, he's batting just .213/.315/.383 overall, but it's worth noting that he went 8-for-19 with a pair of homers during rehab action.
Jun 19 2021Voit (oblique) went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in a minor-league rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit's production at the plate Friday was the surest sign yet that he's ready to return to the big club. He mashed a two-run double in the second inning and a solo homer in the sixth. Barring any setbacks, Voit is expected to rejoin the Yankees for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
Jun 16 2021Voit (oblique) hopes to return to the major-league roster Tuesday, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit transferred his rehab assignment from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, and he could return to the majors in time for the series opener against the Royals. The first baseman said his return depends on how he feels after appearing in more rehab games. He's scheduled to play a full nine-inning game Wednesday, and he'll get some additional at-bats in the days that follow. Voit has been out since May 25 due to a Grade 2 oblique strain.
Jun 15 2021Voit (oblique) transferred his rehab assignment from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will prepare to make his second rehab appearance at a new affiliate after he went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored while playing five innings at first base for the Triple-A club Sunday. The Yankees will likely want to see Voit play at least one or two nine-inning games in the field during his rehab assignment before most likely bringing him back from the injured list ahead of next week's series versus the Royals. Voit has been sidelined since May 25 with a Grade 2 oblique strain.
Jun 13 2021Voit (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday that is expected to last about a week, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman has increased his activity of late, including taking more swings, as he works his way back from a Grade 2 oblique strain. He is set to get into a handful of minor-league contests before potentially rejoining the big club in about a week. Voit's return should provide a tangible boost to a Yankees team that has lost seven of its past 11 games.
Jun 10 2021Voit (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as early as Sunday, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been sidelined with a Grade 2 oblique strain since May 26, but he recently increased his volume of swings and could return to game action in the minors in the near future. Manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that the 30-year-old could rejoin the Yankees after about a week of rehab games, per Marly Rivera of ESPN.com.
Jun 9 2021Voit (oblique) is increasing his volume of swings and could begin a rehab assignment next week, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been on the 10-day injured list since May 26 with a Grade 2 right oblique strain, but he appears to be progressing toward a return. He would likely need a few minor-league rehab games to get back up to speed, which puts his target date to rejoin the big club at sometime in late June. Voit has played in only 12 games this year as a result of this injury and knee surgery that delayed the start of his season.
Jun 6 2021Manager Aaron Boone mentioned June 15 as a potential date for Voit (oblique) to begin a rehab assignment, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit participated in some fielding work Friday and is continuing to progress toward a mid-June rehab assignment. The slugger, who was placed on the 10-day IL on May 26, will likely need to make multiple appearances in the minors before he's ready to rejoin the Yankees lineup. With all that being considered, he remains on track for a late-June return.
Jun 5 2021Voit (oblique) did some fielding work Friday, per Meredith Marakovits of YES Network, and he was also slated to take dry swings later in the day, according to Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been on the injured list since late May with a Grade 2 oblique strain, and he is expected to still be a few weeks away from a return. Manager Aaron Boone noted that the slugger still needs to progress with his hitting before eventually taking some live at-bats while also indicating that Voit is making positive steps in his recovery. "He's doing well...He's trending in a very good direction," Boone stated.
May 30 2021Manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Voit (oblique) is expected to be out for at least a few weeks, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Boone wasn't especially specific in providing a timeline for the slugger's return, it appears clear that Voit will miss more than the minimum 10 days as he recovers from the oblique issue. Look for Mike Ford and DJ LeMahieu to continue to get the bulk of the time at first base in Voit's absence.
May 26 2021Voit was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a Grade 2 oblique strain, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The news comes shortly after Voit was omitted from the lineup for Wednesday's since-postponed game against the Blue Jays. The Yankees will look to Mike Ford and DJ LeMahieu to fill in at first base while Voit recovers from the oblique strain.
May 25 2021Voit will likely miss the Yankees' weekend series in Detroit, as his wife is expected to give birth Friday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit should appear in the rest of the mid-week series against the Blue Jays before missing three games against the Tigers. Mike Ford will likely see some time in the starting lineup in his absence.
May 18 2021Voit is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit receives a day off after playing six of the last seven days to begin his season. The 2020 MLB home run leader has tallied two hits in each of his past three games and launched his first homer of 2021 on Monday against the Rangers.
May 17 2021Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Josh Sborz deep in the eighth inning, supplying the last gasp of offense for the Yankees on the night. It was Voit's first homer of the year, and after going 0-for-10 in his first three games back in the lineup after coming off the IL, the first baseman seems to have found his swing, reeling off three straight multi-hit performances.
May 16 2021Voit went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI in Saturday's 8-2 victory over Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The first baseman collected his first hit of the season in the first inning, rapping a single to left field and later coming around to score. He singled again in the sixth inning, this time plating two runs with the base knock. Voit entered the contest having gone 0-for-10 through his first three games after missing nearly six weeks while recovering from left knee surgery.
May 13 2021Voit is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees are likely just building in a rest day for Voit after he started both of the past two days following his return from the 10-day injured list. The early returns weren't overly promising (0-for-6 with a walk), but Voit should gradually settle in at the plate once he gets more at-bats under his belt. Mike Ford will fill in for Voit at first base Thursday.
May 11 2021Voit (knee) was activated off the injured list as expected Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been out all season after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee in late March. He's looked quite healthy in five rehab games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 7-for-18 with three homers. Voit should reclaim his everyday role at first base and will be looking to build on an excellent 2020 season which saw him lead the league with 22 homers.
May 9 2021Manager Aaron Boone said he's hopeful that Voit (knee) will be activated from the 10-day injured list during the Yankees' upcoming three-game series with the Rays that begins Tuesday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit, who has gone 5-for-13 with a pair of home runs and walks in his first four rehab contests at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, is slated to serve as the affiliate's designated hitter Sunday in what is expected to be his final minor-league game. Assuming Voit comes out of the game with no renewed discomfort in his surgically repaired left knee, he'll likely make his 2021 debut for the Yankees at first base in Tuesday's series opener in Tampa Bay. Voit's return will likely result in fewer opportunities for Mike Ford and Rougned Odor (knee), who had been his primary replacements in the lineup this season.
May 8 2021Manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that Voit (knee) is expected to be reinstated from the injured list early next week, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday and has gone 4-for-9 with a home run, a double, two RBI, two runs and two walks in three games. The 30-year-old could play a few more games at the Triple-A level but will likely be able to make his season debut during the Yankees' upcoming series in Tampa Bay.
May 5 2021Voit (knee) went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in his first game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugger began a rehab assignment with the Yankees' top minor-league club and reached base three times. He's expected to get into 4-to-5 additional minor-league contests before potentially returning to the big club in the middle of next week.
May 4 2021Voit (knee) could return in the middle of next week, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is embarking on a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Per manager Aaron Boone, Voit is expected to play in 5-to-6 games over the next 7-to-8 days, which would take us to Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. If all goes well, he could return to the Yankees lineup toward the end of next week's series in Tampa Bay that runs from May 11 through May 13.
Apr 30 2021Voit (knee) is scheduled to play a rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old progressed to taking live at-bats at the alternate training site this week, and the next step in his recovery is rehab games. Voit could require a fair amount of reps before being cleared for big-league action after missing the first month of the season while recovering from knee surgery in late March for a partially torn meniscus.
Apr 29 2021Voit (knee) will take live at-bats at the Yankees' alternate training site Thursday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been participating in defensive drills and running outside recently, and he'll now face live pitching for the first time since undergoing knee surgery in late March. The 30-year-old appears to be trending in the right direction, but it's not yet clear when he'll return to game action.
Apr 26 2021Voit (knee) has resumed running outside and will ramp up his activities in the near future, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit went through defensive drills Saturday, and he continues to increase his workload while he recovers from knee surgery that he underwent in late March. A timetable for the 30-year-old's return to game action hasn't yet been established, but DJ LeMahieu and Mike Ford should continue to fill in at first base while Voit is sidelined.
Apr 24 2021Voit (knee) went through defensive drills at the Yankees' alternate training site Saturday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was expected to arrive at the alternate site early next week, but he's evidently shown up a few days early. It remains unclear when he'll be ready to return to game action as he works his way back from late-March knee surgery.
Apr 22 2021Voit (knee) will report to the Yankees' alternate training site early next week, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit resumed swinging Tuesday, and he'll likely be able to face live hitting once he reports to the team's alternate training site. Voit is still likely weeks away from his return to game action, but it's encouraging to see him ramp up his activities recently. DJ LeMahieu and Mike Ford should continue to fill in at first base in his absence.
Apr 18 2021Voit (knee) is taking groundballs and will start swinging a bat Tuesday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit continues inching toward a return from his surgery in late March to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee. With the 30-year-old still weeks away from activation and Jay Bruce announcing his retirement Sunday, DJ LeMahieu will continue serving as the Yankees' starting first baseman while Rougned Odor fills in at second base.
Apr 13 2021Voit (knee) was cleared Tuesday to begin light activities and could hit off a tee next week, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All of the reports regarding Voit's recovery from late-March partial meniscus tear surgery have been promising. He appears to be on track to return in early-to-mid May.
Apr 12 2021Voit is "doing really well" in his recovery from knee surgery and could begin baseball activities next week, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugger is slated for a routine post-op visit with a doctor Monday, which could give more clarity about when he can resume working out. Manager Aaron Boone stated Sunday that Voit won't begin baseball activities for "at least another week" while indicating that the first baseman's recovery is going "as expected." Voit appears to still be on track for a mid-May return to action.
Apr 3 2021Voit (knee) is expected to return sometime in May, according to manager Aaron Boone, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He will not do any baseball activities for the next three weeks and remains on track to return within the original 4-to-6 week window. Jay Bruce has been getting starts at first base in the meantime.
Mar 31 2021Voit (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to March 29. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old underwent surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus Monday, so it was only a matter of time before he landed on the shelf. Voit doesn't have an officially timeline for his return, but he'll likely be sidelined from baseball activities for a few weeks. He shouldn't be expected to make his season debut in April.
Mar 27 2021Voit has a partial meniscus tear and will undergo surgery, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit recently underwent an MRI that revealed the extent of his knee injury. Voit won't be able to participate in baseball activities for at least three weeks following his procedure, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action. Jay Bruce will serve as the team's starting first baseman in his absence, while Derek Dietrich and Tyler Wade could also see increased playing time to begin the season.
Mar 11 2021Voit went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit missed a few games due to a sore right knee, but the issue was clearly minor given the slugger's ability to play -- albeit at DH -- Thursday. Voit felt well enough to test the knee on a tag-up from second base following a flyball to left, and though he was thrown out, he appeared to come out of it none the worse for wear. Per Marly Rivera of ESPN.com, Voit will have a planned day off Friday.
Mar 10 2021Voit (knee) will serve as the designated hitter in Thursday's spring game against the Phillies, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's Grapefruit League contest due to right knee soreness, but he's expected to make a relatively quick return to the lineup. Voit participated in defensive drills Wednesday and will return to action at first base in the near future if all goes well Thursday.
Feb 28 2021Voit (foot) is starting at first base and batting cleanup in Sunday's spring opener against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old played with plantar fasciitis throughout 2020, but he appears to be entering spring training in good health. Voit was still significantly productive with a .948 OPS, 22 homers and 52 RBI in 56 games, so he has high expectations entering 2021.
Feb 2 2021Voit (foot) is running the bases at the Yankees' spring training facility in Florida, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old dealt with plantar fasciitis throughout the 2020 campaign but appears on track for spring training. Voit should continue ramping things up at the informal workouts before the official start of camp in a few weeks.
Jan 15 2021Voit (foot) and the Yankees reached a one-year, $4.7 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit dealt with plantar fasciitis at the end of the 2020 campaign, but he's expected to be healthy by spring training after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his foot in November. He won't require arbitration during the offseason after reaching a one-year deal with the club Friday.
Nov 16 2020Voit (foot) is no longer experiencing pain after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his foot, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit doesn't expect his plantar fasciitis to be an issue during the upcoming season after seeing positive results from the PRP shot. This is great news for the Yankees, who will have their slugger back at full strength for the start of spring training.
Oct 14 2020Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that Voit (foot) has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and required a platelet-rich plasma injection to address the injury, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cashman said Voit would be confined to a walking boot for at least one week, but the first baseman won't require offseason surgery and should be back to full strength well in advance of spring training. Voit solidified himself as a lineup regular heading into 2021 after slugging an MLB-best 22 home runs while batting .277 with 52 RBI and 41 runs during the 60-game 2020 campaign.
Oct 9 2020Voit will undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of a lingering foot issue, James Wagner of The New York Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit dealt with a foot injury over much of the 2020 season that didn't hinder his abilities much at the plate as he led the league with 22 home runs. His MRI could help to determine treatment options as the Yankees prepare for the offseason.
Sep 27 2020Voit went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit got ahold of a Nick Vincent cutter in the sixth inning, driving it over the right-field wall for a three-run blast. The homer extended Voit's major-league home run lead heading into the final day of the regular season. His 22 long balls are three more than the 19 hit by Jose Abreu, who ranks second in the category.
Sep 21 2020Voit went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees managed only three base knocks as a team in the loss, but Voit managed to keep his six-game hitting streak intact with a solo shot in the ninth inning. Over the six-game stretch, the slugger has gone 10-for-26 with five homers and 12 RBI. His 21 long balls this season lead the majors; Jose Abreu ranks second with 18.
Sep 20 2020Voit has been managing foot pain for some time, but it has not limited him at the plate, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees and Voit have been vague about the exact nature of the condition, simply referring to it as "foot stuff." While manager Aaron Boone explained that the issue causes Voit pain, he also stated "it's not something that's limiting." Voit's performance at the plate validates that assessment, as he is slashing .327/.345/.750 with seven home runs and 20 RBI over his past 12 games.
Sep 19 2020Voit went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit failed to go yard but extended his hitting streak to five games and continued to produce at the plate. Saturday marked his third multi-hit effort in his last five starts, during which he's hit four home runs, driven in 11 and scored six runs. Overall, Voit has maintained a strong .286/.345/.643 line with 20 home runs, 48 RBI and 38 runs scored across 200 plate appearances.
Sep 18 2020Voit went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Thursday's 10-7 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fourth-inning blast, one of a club-record five the Yankees launched in the fourth inning, was Voit's fourth in the last three days and his league-leading 20th of the year. The power surge has boosted his slash line to .283/.342/.659, and the 29-year-old is now up to 46 RBI through 46 games.
Sep 16 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Wednesday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit has been a tremendous source of power all season, but now has three home runs across the first two games of the team's series against Toronto. He came to the plate with runners on first and second in the sixth inning and slugged his 19th long ball of the campaign over the left field wall. Overall, Voit has a stellar .280/.341/.643 line with 45 RBI and 35 runs scored across 185 plate appearances.
Sep 11 2020Voit went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI during a 10-1 win over the Orioles in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yanks were already winning 4-1 when Voit got to work, crushing a pair of three-run shots off Asher Wojciechowski in the fourth and fifth innings. With the performance, the 29-year-old moved back into a tie with Mike Trout for the major-league homer lead at 16, and Voit's .285/.353/.629 slash line through 41 games comes with 36 RBI -- putting him in the top 10 in the majors in that category as well -- and 32 runs.
Sep 10 2020Voit isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will get his first day off in nearly a month after recording hits in each of the past three contests. Mike Ford will start at first base Thursday.
Sep 9 2020Voit went 1-for-5 while scoring a run and recording an RBI in the Yankees' 7-2 victory Wednesday night. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit extended his hit streak to three and could've been in line for a larger night had he not left three runners on base. Although Nelson Cruz, Mike Trout and Fernando Tatis Jr. have inched ahead on the home run leaderboard, Baseball Savant puts Voit in the top-5 percentile of expected slugging -- signifying that he can hang with that elite company. With advanced metrics on his side and a reliable spot in the middle of the Yankees order, Voit remains a dependable fantasy asset.
Sep 7 2020Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 12-7 loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit put the Yankees on the board early with a solo shot in the first inning, giving him 14 on the year. The 29-year-old slugger is up to 29 RBI with a strong .973 OPS across 150 plate appearances this season.
Sep 3 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a double, two walks and two RBI on Thursday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit came through with a two-RBI double in the second inning to put the Yankees up 4-0. He now has multiple RBI in three of his last six contests, despite slugging only one home run in that span. He has hit the ball very well this season, managing a .293/.359/.664 line to go along with 13 home runs, 23 runs scored and 28 RBI across 128 plate appearances.
Aug 31 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His eighth-inning blast off Edgar Garcia made things interesting, but the Yankees couldn't complete the comeback. Voit has now left the yard eight times in his last 12 games, and on the season he's slashing .301/.363/.709 with 13 homers and 26 RBI through 29 contests.
Aug 30 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI and a run scored Saturday as the Yankees squeaked by the Mets with a 2-1 win. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit wasted no time at the plate as he took the first pitch he saw from Robert Gsellman deep to right to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. The 29-year-old has been locked in at the plate all season as he is now hitting .308/.376/.725 with 12 home runs (tied for second-most in baseball) and 22 RBI.
Aug 27 2020Voit went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta. He followed with an 0-for-3 performance in Game 2. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: On a day in which the vaunted Yankees offense managed a mere two runs in 14 innings, Voit provided one of the few highlights with a solo shot to right field in the early contest. The blast marked the first baseman's fifth straight game with a homer, establishing a career best. Voit wasn't able to continue the streak in Game 2, but he still leads the Yankees with 11 home runs, 58 total bases, 21 RBI and 17 runs scored on the season.
Aug 20 2020Voit went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 10-5 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit continued his tear at the plate Thursday, with his first-inning homer making it four straight games with a long ball for the first baseman. The slugger also added an RBI single in the sixth. Voit has 10 homers and 20 RBI while slashing .311/.386/.730 on the season.
Aug 19 2020Voit went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run Wednesday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit took Tyler Glasnow deep in the third inning for his ninth homer of the season. He's been especially hot of late, cranking four long balls in his past three starts. For the campaign, Voit is hitting .290/.372/.696 with 18 RBI and 14 runs scored across 78 plate appearances.
Aug 18 2020Voit went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Blake Snell deep in the fifth inning, buy the Yankees were already in a 6-1 hole. Voit has hit safely in eight straight games, adding four homers and 10 RBI to his ledger during that stretch, and on the year he's now hitting .284 with eight long balls and 17 RBI.
Aug 17 2020Voit went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Monday's 6-3 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit evidently saw the ball well at the dish Monday evening, launching a two-run blast in the second and a solo shot in the fifth, marking his sixth and seventh long balls of the year. The 29-year-old first baseman is slashing .281/.343/.625 with eight extra-base hits and 15 RBI in 18 contests this season.
Aug 16 2020Voit is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will rest after starting in each of the Yankees' last six games and going 8-for-23 with a home run, double, two walks, five RBI and five runs. Mike Ford will replace Voit as the Yankees' first baseman, while Clint Frazier gets a start as the team's designated hitter.
Aug 11 2020Voit went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run during Tuesday's 9-6 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit opened the scoring Tuesday by putting a 422-foot blast into the left field bleachers during the first inning. The 29-year-old has a .261/.333/.587 slash line with five home runs and 11 RBI in 14 games.
Aug 8 2020Voit isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Yankees playing their second doubleheader in four games, Voit will once again sit for the afternoon game. Mike Ford will serve as the first baseman in Game 1, batting third.
Aug 5 2020Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the second game of the Yankees' doubleheader against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit sat out the early game of the doubleheader, but performed well when he returned to the lineup. He provided the Yankees with an early 1-0 lead, taking Aaron Nola deep in the second frame to record his fourth home run of the campaign. While he's provided plenty of power early on, Voit has also struck out 39 percent of the time in 31 plate appearances this season.
Aug 3 2020Voit is not starting Monday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit sits for just the second time this season. He's hit a modest .240 through his first seven games but has already homered three times, so there's no reason his playing time should dip too much in the near future. Mike Ford will get the start at first base in his absence.
Aug 2 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-7 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit's fifth-inning blast was one of many counter-punches in the back-and-forth battle between the teams. The first baseman is up to three homers, six RBI and four runs scored in seven games this season. He's also struck out 10 times in 27 plate appearances.
Jul 30 2020Voit went 2-for-4 with a grand slam Thursday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit came to the plate in the first inning with the bases loaded, and didn't miss his chance by launching an offering from John Means just over the left field fence. It was his second home run of the season. However, besides his power production, Voit has struggled at the dish, collecting just one additional hit while striking out in six of 15 plate appearances.
Jul 29 2020Voit is not starting Wednesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started each of the Yankees' first three games, going 1-for-10 with a solo homer and five strikeouts. Mike Ford will make his first start of the year as the first baseman in Voit's absence.
Jul 26 2020Voit went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit came through with a home run in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2. It was his first long ball as well as his first hit for the campaign. While a small sample, Voit has struck out in five of his first 11 plate appearances and will need to improve his contact rate to be relied upon as a producer this season.
Jul 7 2020Voit lost 13 pounds during the shutdown of play, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit attributes his reduced weight to his wife's clean cooking and extra cardio. The first baseman indicated that he feels lighter and quicker, which could help him improve his defense at first base. That was a focus of Voit's during the offseason and could be a critical factor in helping the 29-year-old maintain an everyday role during the abbreviated season.
Apr 11 2020Voit has been working out at his home in St. Louis, Ryan Fagan of Sporting News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In addition to working out "as much as possible" in order to stay in shape, Voit has been getting extra conditioning by doing yard work in his backyard. The slugger is expected to take on a near-everyday role at first base for the Yankees when the regular season begins.
Mar 24 2020Voit is projected to be the Yankees' starter at first base when the regular season begins, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit entered spring training as the favorite for the first base job and played well enough to nail down the role, hitting .267 with a home run and two RBI over 30 at-bats in Grapefruit League play. The 29-year-old will look to bounce back from a rough end to the 2019 campaign that included sports hernia surgery in August and a subsequent 1-for-32 slump to close out the regular season.
Feb 17 2020Voit indicated earlier this month that he's made a full recovery from offseason bilateral core surgery, George A. King III of the New York Post reports. "I have never felt any better in my life. It's everything. I feel faster, more agile and my strength is back," Voit said. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit was plagued by core-muscle issues for much of 2019, missing around three weeks with an abdominal strain and requiring another month-long stay on the injured list with a sports hernia. The 29-year-old said that he believes the October procedure will provide a more permanent fix, and he's optimistic that the physical changes he made over the offseason will put him in better position to withstand the rigors of a 162-game season. Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reiterated that Voit looked to be in excellent shape during Monday's camp workout, so the first baseman looks like he'll be a full go during spring training.
Dec 11 2019Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that he anticipates Voit (abdomen) opening the upcoming season as the Yankees' everyday first baseman, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. "I'm confident that Luke Voit is an impact player for us," Boone said. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A core-muscle injury limited Voit's effectiveness over the final month of the regular season and ultimately made surgery necessary once the Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs, but the 28-year-old should be back to full strength for spring training. Despite the disappointing finish to his 2019 campaign, Voit was still a well above-average performer at the dish, contributing a .263/.378/.464 slash line (126 wRC+) over his 510 plate appearances.
Oct 12 2019Voit is not on the Yankees' ALCS roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Astros chose to carry a pitching staff comprised entirely of right-handers for the ALCS, so the Yankees did not see a role for Voit, whose main strength would have been his availability to pinch-hit against left-handed pitchers. Despite his presence on the ALDS roster, Voit did not appear in any of the team's three games against the Twins. DJ LeMahieu should mainly handle the duties at first base with Edwin Encarnacion serving as the designated hitter.
Oct 4 2019Voit is on the Yankees' ALDS roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit stumbled down the stretch, going 1-for-32 with 13 strikeouts over his final 10 games. The Yankees will ultimately keep faith in Voit and his longer track record over Mike Ford, who posted an OPS of 1.142 in the month of September. Voit is likely stuck in a bench role with DJ LeMahieu starting at first base and Edwin Encarnacion serving as the designated hitter.
Sep 30 2019Voit's recent slump may cost him a spot on the ALDS roster, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit struck out 13 times and collected only one hit over his last 32 at-bats, putting him at risk of being left off the roster at the start of the postseason. Per Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger, Voit believes his recent struggles are mental and not related to the sports hernia he was diagnosed with in late July. To make the matter more complicated, Mike Ford put together a strong September, hitting .353 with three homers and 10 RBI in 34 at-bats. With DJ LeMahieu slated to play first base in the playoffs and Edwin Encarnacion likely returning to the fold as DH, the Yankees have no room to carry both Voit and Ford on the roster.
Sep 30 2019Voit's recent slump may cost him a spot on the ALDS roster, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Sep 29 2019Voit is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is 1-for-32 over his last 10 games and will take a seat Sunday as the Yankees gear up for the ALDS. DJ LeMahieu receives the start at first base while Gio Urshela starts at the hot corner.
Sep 24 2019Voit is not starting Tuesday against the Rays, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit is slashing .232/.338/.391 with two home runs and a 28.7 percent strikeout rate in 20 games since returning from the injured list. DJ LeMahieu is starting at first base in Tuesday's series opener, with Gio Urshela getting the nod at third base.
Sep 21 2019Voit is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit wore the Golden Sombrero on Friday and is now hitless in his last five games (0-for-18). Mike Ford will get a turn at first base Saturday against right-hander T.J. Zeuch as Aaron Judge serves as the designated hitter.
Sep 15 2019Voit went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks and two RBI while scoring three times in a victory over Toronto on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit plated a run with a ground-rule double in the third inning and smashed a 439-foot solo shot to center field in the sixth. The 28-year-old has gone 7-for-15 with a pair of homers, four walks and six RBI over his last four games. He is slashing .282/.394/.499 with 21 long balls and 61 runs batted in overall this season.
Sep 12 2019Voit went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit delivered a two-run blast over the fence in center during the first inning, and he drove in another run in the eighth with a single to right field. This marks the 28-year-old's first long ball since July 22 against Minnesota, though it's worth noting that he missed 29 games in July and August due to a sports hernia. Voit is hitting .279 with 20 homers and 58 RBI over 105 games this season.
Sep 10 2019Voit isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit will head to the bench after collecting a pair of base knocks, including a double, in Monday's matchup with Boston. Mike Ford starts at first base and will hit seventh.
Sep 4 2019Voit is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Voit started five games in a row since returning from the injured list, going 4-for-17 at the plate with eight strikeouts. Edwin Encarnacion will be the first baseman Wednesday, with Mike Ford serving as the designated hitter.
Aug 31 2019Voit went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored in Friday's loss to Oakland.

Jul 4 2018Voit is hitting .476 (20-for-42) with four home runs and 13 RBI over his last 10 games with Triple-A Memphis. That torrid stretch includes a jaw-dropping 12-for-15 tally over the last four games, one in which the burly infielder has racked up nine of those RBI. The surge has brought Voit's minor-league slash line to .299/.384/.480 for the season, a level of success he hasn't sniffed in his 2018 big-league opportunities thus far. While Voit generated a respectable .455 slugging percentage with the Cardinals during his 13 plate appearances this season, he's hit just .182 during that brief tenure. With Jose Martinez reportedly set to spend more time in right field due to defensive issues at first base, there may potentially be an opportunity for another callup for Voit at some point this summer, particularly if he continues to display his current level of offense.
Jun 13 2018Voit will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis prior to Friday's series opener against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Jose Martinez will be away from the team attending the birth of his child, so Voit will join the Cardinals to offer additional depth at first base in his absence. The 27-year-old is 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and three RBI in five appearances for the big club this year. Seeing as Martinez is expected to rejoin the Cardinals early next week, Voit's time in the majors will likely be short lived.
Jun 8 2018Voit slugged a solo home run in a pinch-hit at-bat during Thursday's win over the Marlins. With the Cardinals holding a slim 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, manager Mike Matheny pulled original pinch-hit option Greg Garcia after Adam Conley entered as a reliever, instead sending Voit to the plate. The 27-year-old responded by launching a 1-2 pitch 398 feet into the left-field seats, closing out the scoring on the afternoon. Voit has yet to draw a start at the major-league level this season, and Thursday's round tripper was his first extra-base hit of 2018.
Jun 1 2018Voit laced a two-run single in a pinch-hit at-bat during Thursday's win over the Pirates. The burly infielder made his first official big-league at-bat of 2018 count, driving in Harrison Bader and Tommy Pham in the ninth to chop two runs off a three-run deficit. Voit had just been called up earlier in the day from Triple-A Memphis, where he'd slashed .237/.348/.339 across 138 plate appearances.
May 31 2018Voit was recalled from Tirple-A Memphis on Thursday.Voit will take the roster spot of prospect Tyler O'Neill, who was sent to the minors in a corresponding roster move following Dexter Fowler's return to the starting lineup. The first baseman didn't appear in a game during a brief stint with the big club earlier in the year, but he hit a fine .246/.306/.430 across 62 games in his first taste of the majors last season.
May 1 2018Voit was called up to the big leagues Tuesday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. The 27-year-old appeared in 62 games in his big-league debut for the Cardinals last season, hitting a mediocre .246/.306/.430 with four homers. He was hitting just .205/.354/.256 to start the year for Triple-A Memphis. Voit is pretty much a pure first baseman (with a single start in left field this year being the only exception since 2016) but Jose Martinez is firmly entrenched in that role at the big-league level, so don't expect him to be much more than a bench bat during his stay with the Cardinals. Mike Mayers was optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.
Mar 2 2018Voit, who went 1-for-4 with a run in Thursday's 3-3 Grapefruit League tie with the Twins, is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, four RBI, two walks and three runs in six spring training games. It's an excellent start to a pivotal exhibition season for Voit, who proactively undertook a number of initiatives this offseason designed to up his chances of sticking on the 25-man roster. The 27-year-old put in work at learning both corner infield spots, implemented a dietary regimen that led to a 15-pound weight loss and is currently working on a swing adjustment in spring training that's intended to increase his overall contact rate. Voit was serviceable in his first regular-season exposure to major-league pitching in 2017, slashing .246/.306/.430 with nine doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI across 124 plate appearances. However, a bloated 25.0 percent strikeout rate and a corresponding mediocre 73.0 percent contact rate conspired to cap his overall success with the bat, something Voit is hoping his new approach will go a long way towards correcting. If early returns are any indication, the revised swing is already paying dividends.
Feb 24 2018Voit is re-working his swing this spring in an attempt to reduce his launch angle, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. In an era where more and more players are trying to lift the ball in order to hit for more power, Voit is going in the opposite direction. He's reportedly making the change in order to become less susceptible to high fastballs, which have grown in frequency in order to combat the increasingly common uppercut swing path. Voit is somewhat of an odd player to be making this change, as his 11.6 degree average launch angle in 2017 wasn't remarkably high. He did have a somewhat high 25 percent strikeout rate though, and as a 27-year-old fighting to make the end of the major-league roster, he might be desperate to find anything that could take him to the next level. Swing changes are far from guaranteed to work, but if Voit's batted ball profile looks different this spring, it may not be a fluke.
Feb 22 2018Voit altered his diet and lost approximately 15 pounds during the offseason in preparation to see occasional time in left field in 2018, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Opportunities to show he can play left field are expected to happen later on this spring, but Voit's path to extra at-bats at first base to begin Grapefruit League play has been cleared with early injuries to Matt Carpenter (back) and Jose Martinez (quad). The Cards have a lot of moving parts in their infield if their current options remain healthy, and the 27-year-old Voit is hoping to carve out a role on the 25-man roster in the coming weeks. The uphill battle for playing time is particularly difficult for Voit since he's not an ideal platoon partner for Jose Martinez, as both players hit right-handed. Voit still has minor-league options remaining, which could lead him to return to Triple-A to begin the season.
Jan 14 2018Voit has been taking reps at the corner-outfield spots throughout the offseason, Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Voit has been training locally at Maryville University and indicated that he's been gaining experience with reading balls off the bat and perfecting his routes while tracking flyballs. Though Voit said he doesn't envision a permanent position change from first base, he acknowledged that having familiarity with the corner outfield -- in addition to his ability to play catcher on an emergency basis -- could help his case for earning an Opening Day roster spot with St. Louis. The 26-year-old, who posted a .736 OPS across 124 plate appearances with the Cardinals in 2017, is expected to enter spring training second on the depth chart at first base behind Jose Martinez.
Sep 26 2017Voit blasted a solo home run in a pinch-hit at-bat during Monday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs. The rookie hasn't drawn a start since Aug. 30, and his seventh-inning solo blast was his first round tripper since July 9. The 25-year-old has acquitted himself decently in his first regular-season exposure to big-league arms, slashing .250/.308/.444 with four homers and 18 RBI over 117 plate appearances, although his 25.6 percent strikeout rate leaves plenty of room for improvement. Voit will look to make an impression in spring training next year and build on the experience he gained this season.
Aug 31 2017Voit is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.Voit will head to the bench after going 0-for-4 with a trio of strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers. He's started both games at first base since Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) landed on the disabled list -- with Matt Carpenter sliding over to third base -- so he'll likely continue to see starts until Gyorko returns. Jose Martinez, who is starting over him Thursday, could also see some starts at first base.
Aug 30 2017Voit went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and four RBI against the Brewers on Tuesday.Interestingly enough, Voit drove in half those runs with a single out; with the bases loaded in the third inning, he hit into a fielder's choice that plated two runs thanks to Dexter Fowler's brilliant baserunning. This was Voit's first start since being recalled from Triple-A, and if Matt Carpenter keeps sliding over to third base in Jedd Gyorko's (hamstring) absence, the 26-year-old rookie could draw a decent number of additional starts at first base. That could result in some late-season fantasy value, as Voit has mashed at Triple-A this year.
Aug 27 2017Voit was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. The Cardinals will bring back Voit from the Triple-A club to offer some extra depth in the corner infield following Jedd Gyorko's (hamstring) placement on the disabled list in a corresponding move. With Matt Carpenter on track to assume an everyday role at first base and outfielders Stephen Piscotty and Jose Martinez also capable of playing the position when needed, it's unlikely that Voit will see steady at-bats in his latest stint with the Cardinals.
Aug 16 2017Voit entered Tuesday's 10-4 loss to the Red Sox as a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth inning and went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. The 26-year-old hasn't drawn a start since Aug. 6, having logged one at-bat apiece as a pinch hitter in six of the contests prior to Tuesday. Voit's multi-hit effort was his second of August and he's already boosted his average 29 points to .263 during the month. The rookie's playing time continues to be on the sporadic side, but he boasts a nice mix of power and the ability to hit for average based on his body of work in the minors.
Aug 3 2017Voit went 2-for-4 with an RBI groundout and a run in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Brewers. The rookie made some noise out of the seven hole, posting his first multi-hit effort since July 8. Voit hit a rough patch at the plate starting in mid-July, and Wednesday's effort helped snap the 2-for-21 slump that had encompassed the previous 11 games in which he'd registered at least one at-bat. The rookie continues to see occasional playing time, but it remains to be seen if he'll stick with the big-league club for the balance of the campaign.
Jul 24 2017Voit went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Monday's victory over the Rockies.Monday's single was the young first baseman's first hit since July 19 even though he's collected four starts since then due to the injury to Matt Carpenter (quad). Voit still sports an .841 OPS on the year, but this rough patch isn't leading anyone to believe he deserves a regular role even when Carpenter is back in the fold.
Jul 20 2017Voit will start at first base and bat cleanup Thursday against the Mets.Voit has seen his playing time cut back considerably since the return of Kolten Wong, but with Wong getting the day off and Matt Carpenter moving over to second to cover, first base will open up for Voit. He'll also be tabbed for the cleanup spot for the third time this season, as regular four-hitter Jedd Gyorko will be getting the day off as well.
Jul 16 2017Voit is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.Since Kolten Wong returned from the DL on Friday, Voit will have now been on the bench in two of three contests. Once again Sunday, Wong will man the keystone, while Matt Carpenter slides over to start over Voit at first base.
Jul 14 2017Voit is not in Friday's lineup against the Pirates, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.Voit will start the second half of the season with a day on the bench after starting the past seven games at first. In his place, Matt Carpenter draws the start while Kolten Wong mans the keystone.
Jul 9 2017Voit went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Sunday against the Mets.Voit took Seth Lugo deep in the sixth inning for his third long ball in 14 major league games. The 26-year-old first baseman is off to a tremendous start with a .316/.366/.684 line after hitting .322/.406/.561 in 70 games with Triple-A Memphis.
Jul 7 2017Voit went 2-for-4 with three RBI from a two-run double and a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Marlins. The rookie was a veritable one-man wrecking crew in the win, opening the Cardinals' scoring with a mammoth 446-foot shot in the first and following up with a timely two-bagger in the third that erased a 2-1 deficit. The 26-year-old has looked right at home early on against major-league pitching, and he's already racked up seven RBI over six July contests. That caliber of production is simply an extension of the excellent season Voit was enjoying at Triple-A Memphis, where he'd racked up 36 extra-base hits (23 doubles, one triple, 12 homers) in 70 games.
Jul 4 2017Voit went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, four RBI and two runs scored during Monday's win over Miami. It was his first career homer.Voit has shown well since being promoted to the majors. He's gone 6-for-15 at the dish with four extra-base hits and could push for more playing time if he continues to handle the bat well. He posted a rock-solid .322/.406/.561 slash line with Triple-A Memphis this season, so there's definitely some upside. It's still likely wise to take a wait-and-see approach in most fantasy settings at this point , though.
Jul 4 2017Voit will bat cleanup in the order Tuesday against the Marlins.Voit is in line for his fourth MLB start, but it will be the first time he's batted higher than the six-spot in the order. Out of the seven-spot Monday, the 26-year-old launched his first major league home run en route to a four-RBI effort. The sample size is small, but Voit now owns a 1.238 OPS during his tenure with the team. The cleanup role is unlikely to be a regular thing, however, as regular four-hitter Jedd Gyorko is getting the day off Tuesday.
Jun 26 2017Voit is starting at first base and batting seventh for Monday's game against the Reds.It will mark Voit's first major-league start following his call-up from Triple-A Memphis earlier this week. The 26-year-old made a painful debut appearance as a pinch hitter Sunday, getting hit in the back by a Jhan Marinez offering before being taken out of the game. Voit is slashing .322/.406/.561 in the minors this season and will likely act to spell Matt Carpenter at first base going forward.

Jun 25 2017Voit was had his contract purchased Sunday from Triple-A Memphis. With the callup, Voit is now on the precipice of making his debut in the majors. However, it's unlikely he will see a solid bit of playing time given his inexperience and the Cardinals' depth already there. The 26-year-old slashed .322/.406/.561 in 255 at-bats at Triple-A this season.
